Are you tired of aching joints? Chronic migraines? 00:00:04.97\00:00:08.40 Those achy feelings that just don't go away? 00:00:08.60\00:00:11.27 Well don't give up. Whoa, whoa, whoa. 00:00:11.47\00:00:14.08 What are you doing? I'm introducing the program. 00:00:14.48\00:00:17.45 Ah, so you're telling people about lifestyle changes 00:00:17.65\00:00:20.22 that they can make and healthy things? 00:00:20.42\00:00:21.82 No, no, no... don't get carried away with yourself. 00:00:22.02\00:00:23.72 I've got a much quicker fix than that today. 00:00:23.92\00:00:26.12 OK, let me guess: surgery. 00:00:26.42\00:00:28.02 No, surgery is a lump sum. I'm talking about 00:00:28.22\00:00:30.83 more consistent like weekly and monthly installments. 00:00:31.03\00:00:35.50 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We don't talk about 00:00:35.70\00:00:37.33 drugs on this program. No we don't talk about drugs 00:00:37.53\00:00:39.80 on this program... but pharmaceuticals 00:00:40.00\00:00:42.70 are much better than drugs. 00:00:42.90\00:00:44.24 Look... this is a health show. 00:00:44.34\00:00:46.71 This is a health show where we share information 00:00:46.91\00:00:50.25 with the average, every-day person to help them 00:00:50.45\00:00:53.28 prevent disease and restore health. 00:00:53.48\00:00:55.42 We don't talk about drugs. You know that. 00:00:55.62\00:00:57.42 All right, look, I didn't want to have to do this in public 00:00:57.62\00:00:59.55 but let's just cut to the chase. 00:00:59.75\00:01:01.69 I'm making people sick. People NEED their drugs. 00:01:01.89\00:01:06.23 The pharmaceutical companies... they sponsor shows like this. 00:01:06.43\00:01:09.73 You hear what I'm saying? Run the numbers. 00:01:10.13\00:01:12.17 Numbers... what numbers are you talking about? 00:01:12.37\00:01:14.04 I'm talking about your buy out. It's time for you to go. 00:01:14.44\00:01:17.14 so you need to name your price. 00:01:17.34\00:01:18.87 All right, you continue to fantasize about that one. 00:01:19.07\00:01:21.21 I'm going to go ahead and roll the program and 00:01:21.41\00:01:23.31 we're going to tell the whole world today about how they can 00:01:23.51\00:01:26.01 receive health in something other than a pill bottle. 00:01:26.21\00:01:30.22 You stick around. Roll it. 00:01:30.62\00:01:32.55 We don't talk about drugs... 00:01:32.95\00:01:34.82 Well welcome and thank you for joining us here 00:02:12.33\00:02:14.80 in the studio of From Sickness To Health 00:02:15.00\00:02:17.07 where I'm your host and I'm going to stand between 00:02:17.27\00:02:21.04 sickness and health and help you along in understanding 00:02:21.24\00:02:24.87 these things. And today we have a lively program 00:02:25.07\00:02:28.21 for you. But I'd like to start out today with a word of prayer 00:02:28.41\00:02:31.45 and with some scripture because it will lead and guide 00:02:31.65\00:02:35.55 our discussion. So if you don't mind, 00:02:35.75\00:02:37.39 we're just going to have a quick word of prayer. 00:02:37.59\00:02:39.09 Father in heaven, we thank you for Your Word 00:02:39.29\00:02:41.79 and pray that You will bless it today. In Jesus' name, Amen. 00:02:41.99\00:02:45.23 So in the Bible it says... In Jeremiah chapter 46 and verse 11 00:02:45.99\00:02:51.47 it says: "In vain shall you use many medicines. " 00:02:51.67\00:02:55.90 And also in Jeremiah it says in Jeremiah chapter 30 00:02:56.10\00:03:00.68 and verse 13: "There is none to plead 00:03:00.88\00:03:04.78 thy cause that thou mayest be bound up. 00:03:04.98\00:03:08.88 Thou hast no healing medicines. " 00:03:09.08\00:03:12.25 Now that's from the King James version. 00:03:12.45\00:03:14.26 Today joining us here in the studio 00:03:14.66\00:03:16.99 is once again our good friend - a very good friend to this 00:03:17.39\00:03:21.30 program - Dr. Jim Said, who is a board-certified chiropractor 00:03:21.50\00:03:26.50 and a naturopathic doctor. 00:03:26.70\00:03:28.54 And he always comes and shares just wonderful information 00:03:28.94\00:03:31.97 about the physiology of this body and the physiology 00:03:32.17\00:03:35.08 of disease and gets into the understanding of these things. 00:03:35.28\00:03:37.88 And I know that you appreciate that. 00:03:38.18\00:03:39.78 But today also joining us is someone who has 00:03:39.98\00:03:42.85 a lot of insight in our topic today. 00:03:43.25\00:03:46.32 Our topic's going to be about pharmaceuticals 00:03:46.52\00:03:49.16 as you've already seen. But she has some insights 00:03:49.36\00:03:53.19 because she is a former pharmaceutical executive. 00:03:53.40\00:03:57.17 So she knows the ins and outs and all the things that happen 00:03:57.37\00:04:00.30 behind the scenes. 00:04:00.50\00:04:01.84 And with that, I welcome both of you to the program: 00:04:01.87\00:04:04.31 Dr. Jim Said and Lydia Calhoun. Thank you so much. 00:04:04.47\00:04:07.84 Thank you for being with us. 00:04:08.04\00:04:09.38 So today we're talking about medicines or in some... 00:04:09.44\00:04:14.32 some vernaculars... some terminologies 00:04:14.48\00:04:17.85 it's "Big Pharma. " Um-hmm. Yeah? 00:04:18.05\00:04:20.86 So we're going to talk about medicines and pharmaceuticals 00:04:21.06\00:04:22.82 and how this is affecting us. 00:04:23.02\00:04:25.83 As we saw in the opening there 00:04:26.13\00:04:28.73 in the segment we saw that people are taking medications 00:04:28.93\00:04:32.67 for so many different things, right? Yes. 00:04:32.87\00:04:35.77 They are looking for health in a pill or in a bottle. 00:04:35.97\00:04:40.18 Well, before we jump into the discussion - 00:04:40.68\00:04:43.58 I know you all are ready to go - um-hmm - 00:04:43.78\00:04:45.31 before we get started let's take a look at what 00:04:45.51\00:04:48.22 our friend Sickness has to say about this subject. 00:04:48.42\00:04:52.75 Well, what I've got here is a cocktail of medicine. 00:04:55.49\00:04:59.19 These pills here: they help you go to sleep. 00:04:59.39\00:05:01.70 These pills: they help you wake up. 00:05:02.00\00:05:03.67 These will help you go to the bathroom; 00:05:03.87\00:05:05.43 these will make sure you don't use the bathroom too much. 00:05:05.73\00:05:07.90 These over here: they're for depression 00:05:08.10\00:05:09.84 because imagine: after all that Americans are depressed. 00:05:10.04\00:05:13.64 Now these over here... these are my favorite pills. 00:05:13.84\00:05:16.28 They really don't do anything. 00:05:16.48\00:05:17.81 The detail is in the fine print. 00:05:17.98\00:05:20.05 It's kind of like a lie... but isn't. 00:05:20.25\00:05:22.55 Oh, and these pills over here: they cause side effects 00:05:23.52\00:05:25.79 but THESE pills, oh man, they treat those side effects. 00:05:25.99\00:05:29.22 And I think one of these pills will help you get back 00:05:29.42\00:05:31.66 to normal. And oh well, the blue pill... 00:05:31.86\00:05:34.46 that's a different episode. 00:05:34.66\00:05:36.03 You know, the great thing about it is: all these pills 00:05:36.23\00:05:38.80 will keep you forever addicted and sick. 00:05:39.00\00:05:41.60 I love the pharmaceutical industry. 00:05:41.80\00:05:44.01 Back to you, Rico. 00:05:44.31\00:05:46.07 Oh boy! Well that would be really funny if it weren't 00:05:47.18\00:05:50.28 true, right? Sadly. Very true! 00:05:50.48\00:05:52.71 Very true. As we get started talking about this subject 00:05:52.91\00:05:55.75 of pharmaceuticals and the rate at which people are 00:05:55.95\00:06:00.92 depending upon drugs for their health, 00:06:01.12\00:06:06.53 I think we should sort of get a sense of how 00:06:06.73\00:06:10.47 this industry works in relationship to the doctors 00:06:10.67\00:06:14.30 who are prescribing. And Lydia has a lot of information 00:06:14.50\00:06:17.24 about this because you've been in that world. 00:06:17.44\00:06:19.27 So how does it all work? What's the relationship between 00:06:19.47\00:06:20.94 the doctor and you know someone like yourself 00:06:21.14\00:06:24.08 who used to be a pharmaceutical executive. 00:06:24.28\00:06:27.22 You know, I think the #1 issue is gaining the trust 00:06:27.62\00:06:31.35 of the physician. And it really is a relationship-building 00:06:31.55\00:06:34.69 industry. And so that's actually paramount to anything: 00:06:34.89\00:06:38.43 winning their trust and letting them know that they can trust 00:06:38.63\00:06:41.80 you to give them accurate information. 00:06:42.00\00:06:44.40 And then from there... name your price. 00:06:44.60\00:06:47.17 So when you say gaining their trust, 00:06:47.57\00:06:50.01 so if they trust the pharmaceutical executive - 00:06:50.21\00:06:52.91 yes? Yes... then whatever the pharmaceutical 00:06:53.11\00:06:56.44 executive... whatever infor- mation is being fed to them... 00:06:56.64\00:06:59.45 then it is pretty much seen as the truth? It's the gospel. 00:06:59.65\00:07:03.79 That's true. And then they follow along those lines. 00:07:03.99\00:07:06.05 So what I'm trying... want to understand here 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.26 and I want for our audience to understand 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.59 is... So, is this a relationship that is built 00:07:10.79\00:07:14.93 on health? Is it built on or based on 00:07:15.13\00:07:19.43 the drugs being... or these medications being produced, 00:07:20.44\00:07:25.31 developed, so that you can absolutely have better health? 00:07:25.51\00:07:28.98 Cured of your diseases? Is that what's it's about? 00:07:29.38\00:07:32.35 No! That is not what it's about. What it is about 00:07:32.55\00:07:36.38 is increasing market share. And in many cases 00:07:36.58\00:07:39.92 it is about literally creating a need out of sometimes nothing 00:07:40.12\00:07:43.83 depending upon what drug it is that you're talking about. 00:07:45.03\00:07:48.16 So at the very crux of the pharmaceutical industry 00:07:48.36\00:07:53.67 is greed and money. Money's driving this? Yes. 00:07:53.87\00:07:58.41 So when the pharmaceutical exec would go in - 00:07:58.61\00:08:04.11 'cause I've seen this where sometimes I've been 00:08:04.31\00:08:06.88 at the doctor's office. And I would see someone come in 00:08:07.08\00:08:10.49 dressed very well, you know. And clearly they had 00:08:10.69\00:08:14.66 some things and they would go off with the doctor and they 00:08:15.06\00:08:17.33 share some things. The next thing I knew 00:08:17.53\00:08:19.03 they'd have some samples. Is that the relationship? 00:08:19.23\00:08:22.80 They would come and then sometimes... my sister-in-law 00:08:23.00\00:08:25.93 happens to be a doctor... and you know there are lunches 00:08:26.13\00:08:29.20 that take place. Tell me about the lunches 00:08:29.40\00:08:32.24 and the visits to the doctor's office. What is that all about? 00:08:32.44\00:08:34.68 So in some physician's cases it's just very difficult to get 00:08:34.88\00:08:38.61 any time, any concentrated time with them 00:08:38.81\00:08:40.98 and doing a luncheon is the best way of actually 00:08:41.18\00:08:43.59 being somewhat guaranteed of having a portion of 00:08:43.89\00:08:47.42 undivided attention. That's the purpose of doing 00:08:47.62\00:08:51.93 a luncheon. The purpose of the samples 00:08:52.13\00:08:54.70 is either to get a patient "kick started" 00:08:55.00\00:08:58.73 on medicine before they can get it filled at pharmacy 00:08:58.93\00:09:03.07 or some physicians would use pharmaceutical samples to 00:09:03.27\00:09:06.98 offset the cost of the prescription for the patient. 00:09:07.18\00:09:11.45 I see. OK... so I want to make sure that we understand also 00:09:11.65\00:09:16.15 that we're not bashing drugs. 00:09:16.35\00:09:19.49 Right? I mean, there are some drugs that are needed. 00:09:19.69\00:09:23.36 In a trauma situation they're needed, yes? 00:09:23.56\00:09:26.36 Pain killers when you have had some form of surgery... 00:09:26.56\00:09:29.63 surgery that was absolutely necessary it's needed. Um-hmm. 00:09:29.83\00:09:33.34 But we're talking about when drugs are used 00:09:33.54\00:09:37.57 for simple lifestyle issues. In other words, things that 00:09:37.77\00:09:42.68 you could change yourself just by changing your lifestyle: 00:09:42.88\00:09:45.85 what you eat, how you exercise, and so forth. 00:09:46.05\00:09:48.85 But yet instead of doing those things that are necessary 00:09:49.05\00:09:52.09 you go to a drug. And this is... this is something 00:09:52.29\00:09:57.96 that is very near and dear to my heart. 00:09:58.16\00:10:00.16 I know that it's important to you all, too. 00:10:00.36\00:10:01.96 That this is coming and I believe it's hurting more 00:10:02.16\00:10:04.97 than it's helping. And now it is even going to a point 00:10:05.17\00:10:08.20 where we are seeing that there are drugs that are being 00:10:08.40\00:10:12.87 prescribed for children unnecessarily. 00:10:13.07\00:10:17.51 And I think we have a little video that really speaks to 00:10:17.71\00:10:21.35 this. So I want to turn to that and then let's come back 00:10:21.55\00:10:24.22 and talk about this because the drug is the statin drug. Um-hmm. 00:10:24.42\00:10:28.22 You know some things about that, right? 00:10:28.42\00:10:30.09 All right. Let's take a look and let's come back and talk 00:10:30.29\00:10:31.73 about that. 00:10:31.93\00:10:33.26 Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in this country and 00:10:34.26\00:10:37.43 experts say the battle against it cannot begin too early. 00:10:37.63\00:10:40.94 In fact, America's pediatricians came out today with a dramatic 00:10:41.10\00:10:44.81 recommendation: children as young as 2 should have their 00:10:45.01\00:10:48.54 cholesterol tested. And as needed, kids as young as 8 00:10:48.74\00:10:52.01 should start taking cholesterol lowering drugs. 00:10:52.21\00:10:54.82 We begin tonight with Nancy Cordis. 00:10:55.12\00:10:57.25 Cholesterol disease used to be associated with adults. 00:10:57.65\00:11:01.99 Not anymore. Eating healthy is important, right? 00:11:02.19\00:11:04.56 Pediatric cardiologist Craig Sable says he's seen 00:11:04.76\00:11:07.50 kids as young as 5 and 6 with cholesterol problems. 00:11:07.70\00:11:11.37 I thing the sheer number of children that are overweight, 00:11:11.57\00:11:14.54 are less active, and have significant elevations of 00:11:14.84\00:11:18.04 cholesterol has grown exponentially since I've started 00:11:18.24\00:11:20.94 practicing 13 years ago. 00:11:21.14\00:11:22.81 And with the evidence mounting that elevated cholesterol 00:11:23.01\00:11:25.98 at this age can lead to heart disease at this age 00:11:26.18\00:11:29.28 the American Academy of Pediatrics is issuing aggressive 00:11:29.48\00:11:32.75 new guidelines. They say children who are overweight, 00:11:32.95\00:11:36.42 obese, or have a family history of cholesterol disease 00:11:36.62\00:11:39.89 should have their cholesterol tested as early as age 2 00:11:40.10\00:11:43.90 and no later than age 10. 00:11:44.10\00:11:46.23 And for the first time they recommend treating some 00:11:46.43\00:11:49.20 children as young as 8 with cholesterol-lowering drugs 00:11:49.40\00:11:52.91 or statins. The old guidelines said statins should be used 00:11:53.11\00:11:56.41 only as a last resort and only in children 10 and up. 00:11:56.61\00:12:00.85 Can you believe that? 00:12:01.82\00:12:04.02 In a word, that's unconscionable. 00:12:04.22\00:12:07.52 Ummm... what do you mean? Because what you're looking at 00:12:07.72\00:12:13.66 is you're talking about a person that hasn't had... 00:12:13.86\00:12:17.00 hasn't even begun to live a life and actually create 00:12:17.20\00:12:20.10 a lifestyle. And they're test- ing... they're creating a need 00:12:20.30\00:12:24.41 for putting a child on a statin out of thin air. 00:12:24.61\00:12:29.41 I mean, one of the messages we actually talked about 00:12:29.61\00:12:32.48 which wasn't even an FDA- approved message was that 00:12:32.68\00:12:35.28 statins are safe enough to be put in the water. 00:12:35.48\00:12:38.42 Everybody should be on a statin. Whoa! Whoa! 00:12:38.62\00:12:41.19 Wait a minute. Let's understand. 00:12:41.39\00:12:43.73 Let's define this a little bit because I think 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.89 before we can really delve into that and how egregious 00:12:46.09\00:12:49.56 that is, what is a statin drug? 00:12:49.76\00:12:53.30 That's a general classification of a medication. 00:12:53.50\00:12:56.74 But what is it for, doctor? What is a statin drug for? 00:12:56.94\00:12:59.41 Let me give you the concept. 00:12:59.61\00:13:01.18 The statin drug is intended to reduce a particular form of 00:13:01.38\00:13:05.45 molecule that carries fats. 00:13:05.65\00:13:08.55 Let me describe what I mean by that. OK. 00:13:08.75\00:13:10.69 Is the "buzzword" cholesterol here? 00:13:11.09\00:13:13.15 The buzzword is cholesterol but it's a much bigger issue. 00:13:13.36\00:13:15.82 OK. And that's my frustration with the issue of statins and 00:13:16.02\00:13:18.93 cholesterol that people don't even understand the issue 00:13:19.13\00:13:21.66 behind it all. So let me give you the concept very simply. 00:13:21.86\00:13:25.10 When we eat fats - yep - cholesterol from animal fats, 00:13:25.50\00:13:29.20 triglycerides, fatty acids, 00:13:29.50\00:13:32.34 fat-soluble nutrients, they're all fat soluble 00:13:32.54\00:13:35.94 but they're not water soluble. 00:13:36.34\00:13:38.38 They don't dissolve in water. 00:13:38.58\00:13:40.35 Now the blood is a water medium. 00:13:40.55\00:13:42.18 It's water in the blood that carries all of this. 00:13:42.38\00:13:44.69 So the body has to have these fats put into something that can 00:13:44.89\00:13:47.86 be carried in the water. OK. So I call these boats. 00:13:48.06\00:13:50.79 OK. Very good. And there's five different sizes of these 00:13:51.19\00:13:54.66 fat carrying boats. LDL cholesterol - 00:13:54.86\00:13:59.03 LDL stands for lipoproteins - 00:13:59.23\00:14:02.24 so these low density lipoproteins - 00:14:02.44\00:14:05.11 a certain kind of boat in size - carries cholesterol and 00:14:05.31\00:14:08.64 triglycerides and these other fat-soluble nutrients. 00:14:08.84\00:14:11.71 Um-hmm. That's how the body delivers fat to the tissues. 00:14:11.91\00:14:15.35 Now here's what happens. Take cholesterol for an example. 00:14:15.55\00:14:19.79 When the Lord made cholesterol He made one of the most 00:14:20.19\00:14:22.52 exquisitely beautiful molecules you can imagine. 00:14:22.72\00:14:24.99 It's exquisite in it's structure, it's design, 00:14:25.73\00:14:29.00 it's complexity. You change one tiny part of that molecule 00:14:29.20\00:14:32.40 and it becomes, say, testosterone. 00:14:32.60\00:14:34.17 Umm. Another part of it it becomes estrogen. 00:14:34.37\00:14:37.11 Another part of it it becomes cortisol 00:14:37.74\00:14:40.34 regulating physiology. Doing different things. 00:14:40.54\00:14:43.75 Absolutely. But let me understand something. 00:14:43.95\00:14:45.71 For the audience's sake, HLD is the good cholesterol 00:14:45.91\00:14:50.22 and that's the one you're talking about in this instance, 00:14:50.42\00:14:53.32 yes? Here's my... 'Cause there's two different... 00:14:53.52\00:14:55.09 Let me just make sure that we understand. 00:14:55.29\00:14:56.62 There are two types of cholesterol. There is HDL 00:14:56.73\00:14:59.46 and usually, maybe you've heard from your doctor, that's 00:14:59.66\00:15:02.23 the good one. But then they'll tell you that the LDL, 00:15:02.43\00:15:05.43 that's the bad one. So when they look at your blood work 00:15:05.63\00:15:07.60 they're distinguishing between HDL and LDL. 00:15:07.80\00:15:11.77 So continue with that - OK - as a frame of reference. 00:15:11.97\00:15:15.38 Technically there's 4 kinds of particles that carry cholesterol 00:15:15.58\00:15:19.31 but let's limit it to the two most obvious. OK. 00:15:19.61\00:15:22.35 So-called "good" HDL - high density - and so called "bad" 00:15:22.55\00:15:26.92 LDL - low density. All right. 00:15:27.12\00:15:29.32 They're both good... we need them both. 00:15:29.52\00:15:32.06 But here's the problem: LDLs carry the cholesterol and fats 00:15:32.26\00:15:37.07 out to the tissues. From the liver? From the liver 00:15:37.27\00:15:40.04 and HDL brings it back to the liver for re-processing. 00:15:40.44\00:15:45.04 So if you carry more out than you bring back 00:15:45.24\00:15:47.51 then you're depositing much more than you should. 00:15:47.71\00:15:50.28 That's the problem. So here's what actually occurs: 00:15:51.05\00:15:54.72 The liver manufactures cholesterol. 00:15:55.02\00:15:57.12 Not just what you eat, it's also what you manufacture. 00:15:57.32\00:15:59.85 You carry that out. If you're eating a lot of fats, 00:16:00.06\00:16:03.09 you're carrying a lot of them through the bloodstream 00:16:03.29\00:16:05.09 to deal with these things. The problem is in a highly 00:16:05.29\00:16:08.93 oxygen-rich environment 00:16:09.13\00:16:10.83 and the most oxygen-rich blood goes to the heart 00:16:11.03\00:16:13.77 and to the brain. The blood is moving oxygen 00:16:13.97\00:16:16.60 through the body at all times. Yes. You're breathing, you're 00:16:16.81\00:16:18.87 oxygenating the blood, and the most oxygen-rich blood 00:16:19.07\00:16:22.01 goes to the heart first and then to the brain. 00:16:22.21\00:16:24.21 So it oxidizes whatever's in the blood rapidly. 00:16:24.61\00:16:28.12 When cholesterol is being carried through in an excess 00:16:28.52\00:16:31.59 it oxidizes and creates what's called a fatty streak 00:16:31.79\00:16:35.66 inside the artery. That then begins to oxidize further 00:16:35.86\00:16:39.39 and starts to damage the arterial wall. 00:16:39.59\00:16:41.70 Now that wall is one line thick. One layer thick of cells called 00:16:42.20\00:16:48.20 endothelial cells. 00:16:48.40\00:16:50.34 Those cells generate a gas called nitric oxide. 00:16:50.74\00:16:54.68 Nitric oxide coats the inside of the artery 00:16:55.08\00:16:58.98 and coats all the blood elements: red blood cells, 00:16:59.18\00:17:01.32 white blood cells, platelets so they move through like Teflon 00:17:01.52\00:17:04.65 so nothing sticks. Nothing sticks. That's it. 00:17:04.85\00:17:07.92 Now when we damage the artery with that fatty streak 00:17:08.32\00:17:11.13 or we damage with acid foods like sugars as an example - 00:17:11.33\00:17:14.66 white refined sugars - white refined sugars, processed sugars 00:17:14.86\00:17:17.77 then we start damaging the inside lining 00:17:18.07\00:17:21.30 we reduce that nitric oxide and the blood gets sticky. 00:17:21.50\00:17:24.61 Ah! Then what happens: you form this fatty streak. 00:17:24.81\00:17:28.31 White blood cells have to come in, eat that up. 00:17:28.61\00:17:31.31 They create what's called "the foamy pus. " 00:17:31.51\00:17:33.48 That's technically what it's called. 00:17:33.78\00:17:35.75 Will inflammation come as a result of that? 00:17:35.95\00:17:37.32 Now it inflames - uh-huh - so now scar tissue forms 00:17:37.52\00:17:40.02 platelets that cause blood to clot, stick. 00:17:40.22\00:17:43.26 You get salts of calcium and magnesium that stick further 00:17:43.66\00:17:46.59 and you form now a plaque - um-hmm - hardening of the 00:17:46.80\00:17:49.50 arteries. And as it grows it creates a thrombus 00:17:49.70\00:17:52.43 which can then break off or clot the area 00:17:52.63\00:17:56.14 and now you end up with a heart attack or a stroke. 00:17:56.34\00:17:58.41 That's the problem. Now, here's the issue. But what are statins? 00:17:58.61\00:18:01.61 OK... go ahead. Here's the issue with statins: 00:18:01.81\00:18:03.14 LDLs come in 5 sizes of boats: three big ones, two small ones. 00:18:03.18\00:18:08.22 The smallest ones can actually get into the artery wall. 00:18:08.62\00:18:13.29 Statins clear the big three that don't do the damage. 00:18:13.49\00:18:18.06 They're just carrying fats. Um-hmm. 00:18:18.26\00:18:21.13 The ones that are doing the damage aren't touched by the 00:18:21.33\00:18:23.30 statins. That's the big issue. 00:18:23.50\00:18:26.23 That's a very big issue. I want to talk about that one 00:18:26.43\00:18:29.14 on the other side of our "fair reporting" 00:18:29.34\00:18:33.74 because we like to go out and see what people are saying 00:18:33.94\00:18:36.54 on the streets. Do they understand this issue? 00:18:36.75\00:18:38.65 Do they get that using medication for lifestyle issues 00:18:38.85\00:18:44.25 is the way to go? Do they understand that this 00:18:44.45\00:18:46.25 is causing more of a problem than solving their problem? 00:18:46.45\00:18:48.96 So let's join Sickness out there. 00:18:49.16\00:18:52.33 I think he is somewhere out there talking to people... 00:18:52.53\00:18:54.86 talking to people and asking them what they think about 00:18:55.06\00:18:56.80 this issue. So let's go to Sickness. 00:18:57.00\00:18:59.83 All right. I'm here with my wonderful friend Monique. 00:19:02.14\00:19:06.01 I want to ask you about some- thing that everybody seems to 00:19:06.21\00:19:07.94 love these days... it's like candy: pharmaceutical drugs. 00:19:08.14\00:19:11.51 Umm. Umm. You love them too, don't you? 00:19:11.71\00:19:13.75 Love 'em. I knew it! 00:19:13.95\00:19:15.28 Are you addicted to them? Yeah. What's your favorite one? 00:19:15.32\00:19:17.62 Ubiquinol is what I need. 00:19:17.82\00:19:19.82 Do you take any drugs... like, legal drugs? 00:19:20.02\00:19:22.09 I'm asthmatic so therefore - asthma - sometimes I take my 00:19:22.29\00:19:25.99 Albuterol inhaler. 00:19:26.19\00:19:27.53 I have to be honest with you: I love pharmaceuticals. Umm? 00:19:27.56\00:19:29.76 I think it's the most amazing business model ever invented. 00:19:29.96\00:19:33.70 What do you think of pharmaceuticals? 00:19:33.90\00:19:35.24 You know, there's a time and a place for those. 00:19:35.37\00:19:37.54 Time and a place. Face it: Americans love their pills. 00:19:37.74\00:19:41.91 Who are we to tell them no? You? 00:19:42.11\00:19:45.08 Not me... ha, ha, ha, ha... definitely not me. 00:19:45.48\00:19:50.99 Back to you, Rico. 00:19:53.49\00:19:55.16 Ah, ha, ha, ha... whoo! 00:19:56.02\00:19:59.69 Well, people do love their drugs, don't they? 00:20:01.06\00:20:03.77 Yes. Whether they are prescribed from a doctor 00:20:03.97\00:20:06.00 or whether they're getting some- thing that's over-the-counter 00:20:06.20\00:20:08.70 they enjoy their drugs. 00:20:08.90\00:20:11.77 So we were talking about statin drugs and HDL 00:20:12.07\00:20:15.78 cholesterol and LDL cholesterol 00:20:16.18\00:20:18.81 and how the body basically needs both 00:20:19.01\00:20:23.39 but what's happening is the fat in the diet... 00:20:23.59\00:20:28.39 So this is not something that is just naturally occurring, 00:20:28.59\00:20:32.19 correct? Correct. This is be- cause of what we're putting in, 00:20:32.39\00:20:35.76 what it's causing. And it is then damaging 00:20:35.96\00:20:39.13 the arterial walls - the endothelial walls as you 00:20:39.33\00:20:42.50 describe them - that's causing plaque, 00:20:42.70\00:20:45.51 that breaks off, and then we either suffer some stroke 00:20:45.71\00:20:49.24 or heart attack, right? Exactly. And so I would imagine 00:20:49.44\00:20:53.75 that most times people are just walking around 00:20:53.95\00:20:55.45 with an inflamed situation. 00:20:55.65\00:20:58.15 And the common result of inflammation is some type of 00:20:58.35\00:21:03.69 scar tissue, yes? Yes. So statin drugs, this cholesterol 00:21:03.89\00:21:08.50 lowering drug is designed to remove 00:21:08.70\00:21:12.97 that cholesterol? Lower the LDL cholesterol? 00:21:13.17\00:21:15.54 Correct. But it's not really taking care of the problem 00:21:15.74\00:21:18.64 as long as you're actually putting the fats and so forth 00:21:18.84\00:21:22.21 in the body. That's exactly it. In fact, 00:21:22.41\00:21:24.21 that's the bottom line. As long as we keep putting in 00:21:24.41\00:21:27.45 high density fats or high amounts of fats in our diet - 00:21:27.65\00:21:31.29 oils, fats of all kinds, French fries... Fried foods, 00:21:31.49\00:21:34.72 French fries? You got it. Yeah. 00:21:34.92\00:21:37.69 Now you've forced the body to have to carry that 00:21:37.89\00:21:39.73 and now you're going to increase LDLs just from what you ate. 00:21:39.93\00:21:42.60 OK, we have a short amount of time so I need to... 00:21:43.00\00:21:45.27 we need to kind of bring this together because this is 00:21:45.47\00:21:47.20 fascinating. So there are other things... 00:21:47.40\00:21:49.54 So statin drugs to lower cholesterol... that's not just 00:21:49.74\00:21:51.97 it... there are other drugs. 00:21:52.17\00:21:53.51 What other things are we talking about here? 00:21:53.61\00:21:55.11 Well, one of the top selling drugs right now is an 00:21:55.31\00:21:57.88 anti-depressant. An anti-depressant? 00:21:58.08\00:21:59.81 So for people who are depressed. People who are taking 00:22:00.02\00:22:01.72 drugs instead of doing what? What's the? You know, because 00:22:01.92\00:22:04.62 we have to understand, people need to understand 00:22:04.82\00:22:06.76 what SHOULD we be doing instead of taking drugs. 00:22:06.96\00:22:09.46 Well, we should be exercising. 00:22:09.66\00:22:12.89 'Cause a lot of times people just want to take some type of 00:22:13.09\00:22:15.76 weight loss drug - right? - instead of just walking 00:22:15.96\00:22:19.37 every day. Exactly. We could be walking, we could be 00:22:19.57\00:22:21.67 exercising, right? Umm... what else are we talking about? 00:22:21.87\00:22:24.81 We're talking about "Well, I eat a lot of food 00:22:25.01\00:22:27.98 and then I get heartburn, I get indigestion. 00:22:28.18\00:22:29.91 I'm going to get some... some type of? " 00:22:30.11\00:22:32.75 Nexium or some kind of a heartburn regulator if you will. 00:22:32.95\00:22:37.29 OK. So we're going to take some type of drug that's going 00:22:37.49\00:22:40.06 to actually deal with that when really we caused 00:22:40.26\00:22:42.39 the problem in the first place. Exactly. 00:22:42.59\00:22:44.03 You're talking about a need of addressing lifestyle 00:22:44.23\00:22:47.30 at its core. And really, what I saw in the pharmaceutical 00:22:47.50\00:22:51.83 industry was greatly lacking in that area. 00:22:52.03\00:22:55.17 That physicians have such a patient load to see 00:22:55.37\00:22:58.34 that they don't spend the time. They can't if they're going to 00:22:58.54\00:23:01.08 make any money. They don't spend the time educating patients 00:23:01.28\00:23:04.68 on lifestyle and what's actually causing the disease. 00:23:04.88\00:23:07.68 Whoa! Now Lydia, you just said something really important 00:23:07.88\00:23:11.62 to this program: educating people. 00:23:11.82\00:23:13.72 I always refer to Dr. Jim as the doctor who 00:23:13.92\00:23:17.36 educates his patients. He shares, spends time with them. 00:23:17.56\00:23:20.66 This is very important to our health that we become 00:23:20.86\00:23:24.67 educated about our health and what is best for us. 00:23:24.87\00:23:28.94 For example, most people don't know 00:23:29.14\00:23:31.57 that diabetes in most instances - 00:23:31.77\00:23:35.81 most instances - type II dia- betes is completely reversible. 00:23:36.01\00:23:40.62 That's right. Is that right? In thirty days. 00:23:40.82\00:23:43.25 In thirty days! Now how would you reverse diabetes 00:23:43.45\00:23:46.65 instead of taking the common solution? 00:23:46.86\00:23:50.23 What would you do? It's a lifestyle thing. 00:23:50.43\00:23:52.49 What are the things that you could do to reverse diabetes? 00:23:52.69\00:23:54.76 Here's what we've seen clinically. 00:23:54.96\00:23:56.40 Plant based diet. A plant based diet! 00:23:56.60\00:23:58.77 What does that mean exactly? 00:23:58.97\00:24:00.30 Eating that which comes from the ground that's edible: 00:24:00.40\00:24:02.47 fruits, vegetables, leafy greens. 00:24:02.67\00:24:05.34 Would that include nuts and seeds? 00:24:05.54\00:24:06.88 Nuts and seeds in moderation. In moderation? OK. 00:24:06.91\00:24:09.81 Root foods... vegetables of all kinds. 00:24:10.01\00:24:12.85 All of your produce. Yes! In fact, research has come out 00:24:13.05\00:24:15.85 proving that the most efficient way to reverse hardening of the 00:24:16.05\00:24:19.29 arteries: eat your greens. Eat your greens! 00:24:19.49\00:24:23.69 OK. What else could you do to reverse diabetes? 00:24:23.89\00:24:27.16 Exercise is crucial. Exercise. Daily? 00:24:27.36\00:24:30.97 Daily exercise... Weekly? I think we need to slow down on that one right there. 00:24:42.34\00:24:45.31 Did you hear that? Exercising increases the good 00:24:45.51\00:24:49.55 cholesterol. Yes! That's a good one. 00:24:49.75\00:24:52.85 That's a good one. What else? What else? 00:24:53.05\00:24:54.39 Getting sunlight. Converting vitamin D in the body 00:24:54.59\00:24:56.93 to move calcium more efficiently and also support 00:24:57.13\00:24:59.93 the immune system. These are essentials. 00:25:00.13\00:25:02.43 We take diabetics. We get them exercising regularly, 00:25:02.63\00:25:06.40 walking, eating properly, and they start to reverse 00:25:06.60\00:25:09.84 their pathology. So what I just heard was 00:25:10.04\00:25:12.74 a plant based diet. So that means taking out the fats 00:25:12.94\00:25:15.08 out of your food. Basically, whenever you're eating anything 00:25:15.28\00:25:17.95 that comes from a meat source you are taking in saturated fat. 00:25:18.15\00:25:21.92 This is going to increase your bad cholesterol 00:25:22.22\00:25:25.85 and cause problems in your arterial walls. 00:25:26.05\00:25:28.56 Then you mentioned sunshine. You mentioned... 00:25:28.76\00:25:31.03 What about water? What part does water play? 00:25:31.23\00:25:33.06 We only have a couple seconds left, but... Water is ESSENTIAL. 00:25:33.26\00:25:34.60 It's a cleansing system to the body. Water is essential. 00:25:34.63\00:25:37.67 Rest? The body is primarily water. Rest is essential 00:25:37.87\00:25:40.24 to recover. So good sleep for recovery. Exactly. 00:25:40.44\00:25:43.51 Sleep between 10 and 2 cleanses the brain; 00:25:43.71\00:25:45.61 between 2 and 6 reduces inflammation from the body 00:25:45.81\00:25:48.64 from the previous day's stress. 00:25:48.84\00:25:50.25 We need that 10 to 6 hours, 10 PM to 6 AM, 00:25:50.55\00:25:54.02 to be able to properly heal. 00:25:54.22\00:25:56.32 You know? I tell you what: it just seems to me 00:25:57.25\00:25:59.75 Dr. Said and Lydia, we are going to have to pick this up 00:25:59.95\00:26:05.16 in another program because we have so much more to talk about, 00:26:05.36\00:26:07.76 don't we? True. There's so much more to talk about 00:26:07.96\00:26:10.07 on this subject and this issue. 00:26:10.27\00:26:12.17 Now, to just bring into summary: we are realizing 00:26:12.37\00:26:16.37 that it is entirely possible for us to restore and recover 00:26:16.57\00:26:20.48 our health by not drug medication 00:26:20.68\00:26:23.51 but through lifestyle changes: water, sunshine, rest. 00:26:23.71\00:26:27.85 You've in tune to From Sickness To Health. 00:26:28.65\00:26:30.92 See you next time. 00:26:31.12\00:26:33.32 You know, I was in an accident some time ago 00:26:35.12\00:26:38.06 and the pain was so severe I tell you 00:26:38.26\00:26:40.50 you could not have pried those pain killers out of my mouth. 00:26:40.70\00:26:44.20 Make no mistake about it: there are times 00:26:44.50\00:26:46.84 when someone is going to have to take a prescription drug 00:26:47.14\00:26:50.41 for some pain relief or some other health issue. 00:26:50.61\00:26:53.81 But to take medication unnecessarily for simple 00:26:54.01\00:26:58.35 lifestyle practices oftentimes will lead to dependency 00:26:58.55\00:27:02.08 and unnecessary side effects. 00:27:02.28\00:27:05.05 You know, to take a pill for something as simple as 00:27:05.25\00:27:07.59 weight loss when you can do something as simple as 00:27:07.79\00:27:10.69 change dietary habits or drink more water 00:27:10.89\00:27:14.63 and exercise. Change is hard, I know. 00:27:14.83\00:27:18.50 In fact, I would even say it's a little pricey... 00:27:18.70\00:27:21.14 but the results are priceless and you'll feel great. 00:27:21.74\00:27:26.27 Rico, I agree with you: change is hard. 00:27:27.14\00:27:30.08 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa... did I just hear you correctly? 00:27:30.28\00:27:32.11 Are you agreeing with me? And they make pills 00:27:45.73\00:27:48.63 for side effects. There you have it. 00:27:48.83\00:27:51.13 This has been our show today. I'm going to end this show 00:27:51.53\00:27:53.44 with what I always do, and that's with III John 1:2. 00:27:53.64\00:27:57.84 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper 00:27:58.04\00:28:02.01 and be in health even as thy soul prospers.
