Very exciting. 00:02:59.97\00:03:02.84 And so anyway, and I remember this one day, 00:03:02.88\00:03:05.25 this lady she brought us a box of roses chocolates. 00:03:05.28\00:03:09.12 And I was just so excited. 00:03:09.15\00:03:11.29 My sisters were excited. 00:03:11.32\00:03:12.65 We all got a box each. 00:03:12.69\00:03:14.42 And we were just thrilled. 00:03:14.46\00:03:15.79 I mean, this lady was the best thing ever. 00:03:15.82\00:03:17.93 She was our favorite friend, we look forward to her 00:03:17.96\00:03:20.43 coming more than anything else in the world. 00:03:20.46\00:03:22.36 Anyway, here we are 00:03:22.40\00:03:24.23 with our box of roses chocolates, 00:03:24.27\00:03:26.74 and my sisters guess what they did? 00:03:26.77\00:03:28.80 They hide through them immediately. 00:03:28.84\00:03:30.64 Even before you could blink, those chocolates were gone. 00:03:30.67\00:03:35.04 And I told them, I warned them. 00:03:35.08\00:03:36.44 I said, "Look, who knows 00:03:36.48\00:03:38.11 when the Good Samaritan is gonna come back again. 00:03:38.15\00:03:40.32 We got no idea 00:03:40.35\00:03:41.68 when this lady is coming back again,` 00:03:41.72\00:03:43.28 save some for tomorrow and the next day 00:03:43.32\00:03:45.32 and so on and so forth." 00:03:45.35\00:03:46.69 But no, they didn't wanna listen to me. 00:03:46.72\00:03:48.56 And so they ate all their chocolates. 00:03:48.59\00:03:50.73 Well, me, what did I do? 00:03:50.76\00:03:52.09 I ate a few. Absolutely. 00:03:52.13\00:03:54.10 However, I decided that I needed to keep the rest 00:03:54.13\00:03:56.87 for another day and sparingly enjoy them 00:03:56.90\00:03:59.47 over a longer period of time. 00:03:59.50\00:04:02.14 But I knew that 00:04:02.17\00:04:03.51 if my sisters found my chocolates, 00:04:03.54\00:04:04.87 it would be all over. 00:04:04.91\00:04:06.34 So I had to hide my chocolates, and I hid my chocolates. 00:04:06.37\00:04:10.75 I hid my chocolates in my bedroom so 00:04:10.78\00:04:13.08 so well that I forgot where I hid them. 00:04:13.11\00:04:15.88 I couldn't remember where I hid them. 00:04:15.92\00:04:18.99 Anyway I forgot about the chocolates 00:04:19.02\00:04:20.76 and one day, 00:04:20.79\00:04:22.12 one day as I'm just rummaging through my bedroom, 00:04:22.16\00:04:25.86 all of a sudden guess what I come across. 00:04:25.89\00:04:28.03 I come across my chocolates, my beloved roses chocolates. 00:04:28.06\00:04:33.30 And I sit down on the bed and I'm just ready to, 00:04:33.34\00:04:36.50 ready to rip into these chocolates. 00:04:36.54\00:04:38.74 I mean, there's just saliva just pouring everywhere. 00:04:38.77\00:04:42.04 Not that you wanted to hear that. 00:04:42.08\00:04:43.68 But I'm just sitting there and I'm just ready 00:04:43.71\00:04:46.88 and I opened up the box and they're all there. 00:04:46.92\00:04:49.38 My sisters haven't found the chocolates. 00:04:49.42\00:04:51.39 Praise the Lord. I'm just so excited. 00:04:51.42\00:04:54.22 And I'm about to hove into them and I'm just so excited. 00:04:54.26\00:04:57.03 Shut the door. 00:04:57.06\00:04:58.39 Make sure my sisters are no way in case 00:04:58.43\00:05:00.46 I don't want the special moment ruined by them. 00:05:00.50\00:05:03.23 Anyway, so away I go, 00:05:03.26\00:05:04.97 I unwrapped the first chocolate. 00:05:05.00\00:05:07.57 I'm so excited. I'm ready. 00:05:07.60\00:05:10.67 Horror. 00:05:10.71\00:05:12.04 Absolute horror. 00:05:12.07\00:05:14.14 It's not a chocolate. 00:05:14.18\00:05:15.51 It's a rock. 00:05:15.54\00:05:17.01 I'm like have mercy. 00:05:17.05\00:05:19.71 Wait until I catch up with Cadbury's. 00:05:19.75\00:05:22.15 I'm like, "They're gonna give me 00:05:22.18\00:05:23.52 a year supply of chocolate 00:05:23.55\00:05:25.49 for this terrible, terrible mistake 00:05:25.52\00:05:28.09 that they've made." 00:05:28.12\00:05:29.46 So anyway, I opened up the second one. 00:05:29.49\00:05:31.19 Guess what? 00:05:31.23\00:05:32.56 Another rock. 00:05:32.59\00:05:34.56 I was starting to get a bit suspicious. 00:05:34.60\00:05:36.67 But I thought, let's give it one more go, 00:05:36.70\00:05:38.67 one more go. 00:05:38.70\00:05:40.04 True story. 00:05:40.07\00:05:41.40 I opened up the third wrapping. 00:05:41.44\00:05:45.21 You guessed it. 00:05:45.24\00:05:46.88 Another rock. 00:05:46.91\00:05:48.71 Someone had found my chocolates. 00:05:48.74\00:05:51.28 And it wasn't my mom or my dad or the cat. 00:05:51.31\00:05:55.15 It was my sisters. 00:05:55.18\00:05:56.65 They had found the chocolates, 00:05:56.69\00:05:59.75 they had polish them all off 00:05:59.79\00:06:02.39 and put rocks in every single wrapper. 00:06:02.42\00:06:05.13 Every single one to the last one. 00:06:05.16\00:06:08.26 Hoax, taken in by a hoax, deceived. 00:06:08.30\00:06:11.83 My life has never been the same. 00:06:11.87\00:06:13.97 I've been to many counselors, 00:06:14.00\00:06:16.14 and they can't help me they say. 00:06:16.17\00:06:18.31 They've never dealt with anything like this before. 00:06:18.34\00:06:20.54 Now that's not part of a true story. 00:06:20.58\00:06:23.28 You know, we've all been taken in by a fraud, 00:06:26.41\00:06:31.69 by a hoax, we'd been deceived. 00:06:31.72\00:06:33.82 But today we wanna talk about something 00:06:33.86\00:06:35.29 far more important, 00:06:35.32\00:06:36.96 far more critical than a box of roses chocolates. 00:06:36.99\00:06:41.56 Today, we wanna take a look at the blessings 00:06:41.60\00:06:44.37 that God has given to the human race 00:06:44.40\00:06:46.84 at the very beginning of time in the Garden of Eden, 00:06:46.87\00:06:49.30 and how the enemy has done his utmost to try 00:06:49.34\00:06:52.44 and take away their blessing from us. 00:06:52.47\00:06:54.88 We've discovered thus far that in the beginning of time, 00:06:54.91\00:06:58.11 God created two blessed institutions 00:06:58.15\00:07:01.55 to remain with the human race for all of time. 00:07:01.58\00:07:05.09 One of them being marriage, and we thank God for marriage 00:07:05.12\00:07:07.86 and the family. 00:07:07.89\00:07:09.22 Amen. Absolutely. 00:07:09.26\00:07:10.59 We looked at that in our previous presentation. 00:07:10.63\00:07:12.36 And the second one is the seventh-day Sabbath 00:07:12.39\00:07:15.63 that God gave to Adam and Eve 00:07:15.66\00:07:17.43 and to their children for the rest of human history. 00:07:17.47\00:07:22.64 Now when it comes to these two beautiful gifts, 00:07:22.67\00:07:26.41 we've discovered that God placed these two gifts 00:07:26.44\00:07:29.58 from the Garden of Eden 00:07:29.61\00:07:30.95 in the heart of His Ten Commandment law. 00:07:30.98\00:07:32.95 You remember that from that last presentation? 00:07:32.98\00:07:35.15 The fourth commandment, "Remember the Sabbath day," 00:07:35.18\00:07:38.32 the fifth commandment, 00:07:38.35\00:07:39.69 "Honor thy mother and thy father." 00:07:39.72\00:07:41.06 The two commandments, they are very different 00:07:41.09\00:07:43.56 in how they begin to all the other commandments, 00:07:43.59\00:07:46.96 specifically, so that God could get through the message 00:07:47.00\00:07:50.67 of these two wonderful blessings 00:07:50.70\00:07:52.20 that the enemy has tried to destroy it. 00:07:52.23\00:07:53.94 We discovered also that all the way in the Bible 00:07:53.97\00:07:58.77 from Genesis to Revelation, 00:07:58.81\00:08:01.18 the Sabbath, from when God gave it 00:08:01.21\00:08:03.98 at creation remains all the way through 00:08:04.01\00:08:06.68 to the very end of time 00:08:06.72\00:08:08.05 that we unpack this in our previous presentation. 00:08:08.08\00:08:10.65 We don't have time to do that on this occasion. 00:08:10.69\00:08:13.09 But we discovered in the beginning, 00:08:13.12\00:08:14.52 God created this Sabbath when he gave it to Adam and Eve 00:08:14.56\00:08:17.19 at Mount Sinai. 00:08:17.23\00:08:18.56 God commanded it through The Ten Commandments 00:08:18.59\00:08:20.90 that He wrote with His own finger, 00:08:20.93\00:08:23.20 with His own hand. 00:08:23.23\00:08:24.57 In His life, Jesus worshiped on it, 00:08:24.60\00:08:26.20 in His death, Jesus continued to observe it, 00:08:26.23\00:08:28.54 the New Testament Church continued to observe it, 00:08:28.57\00:08:31.37 God's last-day people will keep it 00:08:31.41\00:08:33.27 according to the Book of Revelation. 00:08:33.31\00:08:34.64 And we discovered that from one Sabbath to another, 00:08:34.68\00:08:37.55 according to Isaiah 66:22-23, 00:08:37.58\00:08:41.18 "All flesh will come and worship God 00:08:41.22\00:08:44.22 on the earth made new." 00:08:44.25\00:08:46.22 So from creation to recreation, 00:08:46.25\00:08:49.76 God's blessed Sabbath 00:08:49.79\00:08:51.76 will remain for all of eternity. 00:08:51.79\00:08:54.93 That is what the Bible teaches. 00:08:54.96\00:08:57.30 So today, we wanna take a look at from the Bible, 00:08:57.33\00:09:01.54 and from the pages of history, 00:09:01.57\00:09:03.87 how this has all changed because there is an enemy 00:09:03.91\00:09:08.68 who wants to defraud the human race of the blessings 00:09:08.71\00:09:13.08 that God has for humanity. 00:09:13.11\00:09:16.15 Those two blessings from the garden 00:09:16.18\00:09:19.19 being marriage in the family, and the Sabbath, 00:09:19.22\00:09:22.06 that work hand in hand to create happiness, 00:09:22.09\00:09:26.63 joy, peace, and prosperity for all. 00:09:26.66\00:09:30.97 Does the enemy want us to enjoy all that? 00:09:31.00\00:09:33.80 Absolutely not. 00:09:33.84\00:09:35.44 Absolutely not. 00:09:35.47\00:09:36.81 So we need to find the truth. 00:09:36.84\00:09:38.61 I've come here to find out the truth. 00:09:38.64\00:09:40.28 What about you? 00:09:40.31\00:09:41.64 Have you come to find the truth? 00:09:41.68\00:09:43.01 You wanna know the truth? 00:09:43.04\00:09:44.38 Well, today by God's grace, 00:09:44.41\00:09:46.08 we will see the words of Jesus fulfilled where He said, 00:09:46.11\00:09:49.25 "If you abide in My Word, you will know the truth, 00:09:49.28\00:09:52.19 and the truth will set you free." 00:09:52.22\00:09:53.96 So let's pause and pray 00:09:53.99\00:09:55.32 before we indeed abide in God's Word 00:09:55.36\00:09:57.63 to seek for His truth. 00:09:57.66\00:09:58.99 Father in heaven, we thank You 00:09:59.03\00:10:01.66 that we have Your Word. 00:10:01.70\00:10:03.03 We thank You, Father, 00:10:03.06\00:10:04.40 that Your Word is a lamp unto our feet 00:10:04.43\00:10:06.07 and a light unto our path. 00:10:06.10\00:10:07.70 And we thank You that in Your Word, 00:10:07.74\00:10:11.07 we have clarity of what Your will is for us 00:10:11.11\00:10:14.98 and for the entire human race, that we may indeed 00:10:15.01\00:10:18.71 enjoy the blessings of peace, happiness, 00:10:18.75\00:10:22.42 and joy that You have for us. 00:10:22.45\00:10:25.19 So bless us we pray in Jesus' name. 00:10:25.22\00:10:27.42 Amen. Amen. 00:10:27.46\00:10:29.66 I wanna begin by going to John 10:10, 00:10:29.69\00:10:32.83 where Jesus here outlines His plan for us 00:10:32.86\00:10:36.16 as well as the enemy's plan for us. 00:10:36.20\00:10:39.70 In John 10:10, Jesus said, 00:10:39.73\00:10:41.54 "The thief does not come except to steal, 00:10:41.57\00:10:44.14 kill and destroy." 00:10:44.17\00:10:45.51 And who do you think the thief might be? 00:10:45.54\00:10:47.18 That's the Devil, of course. 00:10:47.21\00:10:48.54 That's the Devil whose name is evil with a D. 00:10:48.58\00:10:51.55 That's why it's called the Devil. 00:10:51.58\00:10:52.91 That's all he's interested in. 00:10:52.95\00:10:54.28 Evil for you and I, and Jesus goes on, 00:10:54.32\00:10:57.02 "But I have come that they may have life, 00:10:57.05\00:10:59.75 and that they may have it more," what? 00:10:59.79\00:11:01.76 "More abundantly." 00:11:01.79\00:11:03.12 So God's plan for you and I is that we may have life 00:11:03.16\00:11:06.09 and have it more abundantly whereas the enemy, 00:11:06.13\00:11:08.90 he wants to take away that abundant life. 00:11:08.93\00:11:11.70 He wants to steal, kill, and destroy the plans 00:11:11.73\00:11:15.00 that God has to bless each and every one of us. 00:11:15.04\00:11:18.44 When it comes to worship, we discover that 00:11:18.47\00:11:21.98 the central issue in the entire Bible, 00:11:22.01\00:11:24.91 in fact, is worship. 00:11:24.95\00:11:27.68 Worship is not about a day, but it's about allegiance 00:11:27.72\00:11:31.12 and loyalty to our Creator, to our Savior, 00:11:31.15\00:11:35.99 and to the one that sustains us, 00:11:36.02\00:11:38.53 and that is Jesus Christ. 00:11:38.56\00:11:42.33 The very first murder in the Bible was over worship, 00:11:42.36\00:11:46.80 when Cain killed his brother Abel. 00:11:46.84\00:11:49.90 Satan has always wanted worship 00:11:49.94\00:11:53.17 because worship belongs to God alone. 00:11:53.21\00:11:56.31 You say the word worship. 00:11:56.34\00:11:58.68 It means worth ship. 00:11:58.71\00:12:00.35 Who is worthy to be worshiped? 00:12:00.38\00:12:02.68 Who is worthy to receive our loyalty, 00:12:02.72\00:12:05.22 our honor? 00:12:05.25\00:12:06.59 And the only one who is worthy is the one who created us. 00:12:06.62\00:12:10.59 And that is who? 00:12:10.63\00:12:11.96 That is God. 00:12:11.99\00:12:13.33 He alone is worthy to be worshiped. 00:12:13.36\00:12:15.06 But the enemy wants to take away 00:12:15.10\00:12:16.90 from the worship that belongs to God for himself. 00:12:16.93\00:12:20.60 And so the very first murder in the Bible was over worship, 00:12:20.64\00:12:23.77 true and false worship. 00:12:23.81\00:12:26.07 The central issue, in the Book of Revelation, 00:12:26.11\00:12:29.04 at the end of time is over worship. 00:12:29.08\00:12:31.45 That word worship appears over and over and over again. 00:12:31.48\00:12:35.68 It's about who will you give your end-time 00:12:35.72\00:12:39.12 loyalty and allegiance to. 00:12:39.15\00:12:40.86 Will it be God? 00:12:40.89\00:12:42.36 Or will it be the enemy? 00:12:42.39\00:12:44.66 They are one of two choices 00:12:44.69\00:12:46.63 that each person will need to make. 00:12:46.66\00:12:49.46 Jesus alone deserves to be worshiped, 00:12:49.50\00:12:52.80 for He alone is our Creator, and He alone is our Redeemer. 00:12:52.83\00:12:57.87 He alone deserves to be worshiped. 00:12:57.91\00:12:59.97 So the question is, if the Sabbath 00:13:00.01\00:13:03.14 from Genesis to Revelation, 00:13:03.18\00:13:06.92 where on earth did Sunday worship come from? 00:13:06.95\00:13:10.29 If it's all the way through the Bible, 00:13:10.32\00:13:12.52 where on earth did Sunday worship come from? 00:13:12.55\00:13:15.29 Well, the truth is, 00:13:15.32\00:13:16.66 as we'll discover in this presentation, 00:13:16.69\00:13:18.39 and in all other subjects, 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.56 especially relating to those 00:13:20.60\00:13:22.73 significant fundamental truths in God's Word. 00:13:22.76\00:13:25.63 For every truth that God has, the enemy has a counterfeit. 00:13:25.67\00:13:29.00 That's just how it works. 00:13:29.04\00:13:30.37 For every truth that God has, 00:13:30.41\00:13:31.74 the enemy has a counterfeit to take away the blessings 00:13:31.77\00:13:35.41 that God has for each and every one of us. 00:13:35.44\00:13:38.28 So we're gonna find out from the Bible, 00:13:38.31\00:13:40.35 we're gonna find out what God's plan is. 00:13:40.38\00:13:42.78 And we're gonna find out from history 00:13:42.82\00:13:45.99 where the changes took place. 00:13:46.02\00:13:49.29 I wanna begin by sharing with you 00:13:49.32\00:13:51.06 just an overall description 00:13:51.09\00:13:54.86 of the significance of the sun 00:13:54.90\00:13:57.50 and sun worship 00:13:57.53\00:13:58.87 when it comes to the cultures of the past. 00:13:58.90\00:14:02.80 "Throughout history, 00:14:02.84\00:14:04.17 many ancient cultures worship the sun. 00:14:04.21\00:14:07.28 Light and heat were essential elements 00:14:07.31\00:14:09.54 to cultures dependant on agriculture. 00:14:09.58\00:14:12.05 Therefore, the great force of the sun 00:14:12.08\00:14:14.22 became the object of their worship. 00:14:14.25\00:14:16.62 Sadly, on many occasions, 00:14:16.65\00:14:18.65 the Old Testament records that the chosen people of God, 00:14:18.69\00:14:22.79 the nation of Israel chose to worship the sun god 00:14:22.82\00:14:26.39 rather than the Son of God. 00:14:26.43\00:14:28.20 Often the religious leaders were responsible 00:14:28.23\00:14:30.67 for leading the people 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.37 in the pagan practice of sun worship." 00:14:32.40\00:14:35.84 And we have an example of that in Ezekiel 8:16, 00:14:35.87\00:14:40.71 where the religious leaders 00:14:40.74\00:14:42.51 are leading out in the worship of the sun god, 00:14:42.54\00:14:45.65 which was the predominant god of then known world 00:14:45.68\00:14:49.88 when Israel lived at that time. 00:14:49.92\00:14:53.15 "So He brought me into the inner courts 00:14:53.19\00:14:55.36 of the Lord's house." 00:14:55.39\00:14:57.93 We read in Ezekiel 8:16. 00:14:57.96\00:15:00.36 "And there, at the door of the temple of the Lord, 00:15:00.40\00:15:03.30 between the porch and the altar, 00:15:03.33\00:15:04.67 were about twenty-five men 00:15:04.70\00:15:06.20 with their backs toward the temple of the Lord 00:15:06.23\00:15:08.47 and their faces toward the east, 00:15:08.50\00:15:10.51 and they were worshiping the sun toward the east." 00:15:10.54\00:15:14.98 So even though God had warned His people 00:15:15.01\00:15:17.85 over and over again, 00:15:17.88\00:15:19.51 do not follow the worship practices 00:15:19.55\00:15:23.85 of the nations that surround you, 00:15:23.89\00:15:26.35 and the nations that surrounded Israel 00:15:26.39\00:15:29.56 worshiped the sun god, 00:15:29.59\00:15:30.93 that was their predominant God based on what I've just shared 00:15:30.96\00:15:33.90 regarding the whole necessary force of the sun 00:15:33.93\00:15:39.37 for their agriculture and so on and so forth. 00:15:39.40\00:15:42.74 God says, "Don't worship the sun god." 00:15:42.77\00:15:45.54 But we find here in Ezekiel that God's people, 00:15:45.57\00:15:49.64 in fact, God's leaders, 00:15:49.68\00:15:51.51 God's very leaders in the temple, 00:15:51.55\00:15:53.78 in the church, 00:15:53.82\00:15:55.28 they have their backs towards the temple 00:15:55.32\00:15:58.55 and their faces towards the east 00:15:58.59\00:16:00.16 and they're worshiping the sun god 00:16:00.19\00:16:01.92 as the other pagan nation. 00:16:01.96\00:16:04.23 So sadly, sun worship crept into God's people 00:16:04.26\00:16:08.90 and amongst God's people right there 00:16:08.93\00:16:11.13 at the very beginning of time, 00:16:11.17\00:16:13.50 way back in Old Testament times. 00:16:13.54\00:16:17.24 Notice what we read in The Faith of Our Fathers. 00:16:17.27\00:16:21.91 This is written a history of the Christian church 00:16:21.94\00:16:26.82 by James Cardinal Gibbons, who's passed away. 00:16:26.85\00:16:30.99 He wrote this epic on church history. 00:16:31.02\00:16:35.82 And notice what he had to say 00:16:35.86\00:16:38.13 regarding the day of worship, 00:16:38.16\00:16:42.93 and what the Bible has to say 00:16:42.96\00:16:45.10 regarding the true day of the worship. 00:16:45.13\00:16:46.97 I'm reading his words, 00:16:47.00\00:16:48.37 from Faith of Our Fathers, page 561, 00:16:48.40\00:16:51.01 Cardinal James Gibbons, 00:16:51.04\00:16:52.97 a prominent Catholic theologian, 00:16:53.01\00:16:56.44 this is what he wrote. 00:16:56.48\00:16:58.21 "You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, 00:16:58.25\00:17:01.15 and you will not find a single line authorizing 00:17:01.18\00:17:04.42 the sanctification of Sunday." 00:17:04.45\00:17:06.19 He goes on, "The scriptures enforce 00:17:06.22\00:17:09.76 the religious observance of Saturday." 00:17:09.79\00:17:11.73 So as far as 00:17:11.76\00:17:13.09 James Cardinal Gibbons is concerned, 00:17:13.13\00:17:14.56 he's a well-known, 00:17:14.60\00:17:15.96 well respected Church of Rome historian. 00:17:16.00\00:17:20.00 He states what the facts are, and the facts are 00:17:20.04\00:17:23.41 that you can read through the entire Bible 00:17:23.44\00:17:26.94 from Genesis to Revelation and you will not find 00:17:26.98\00:17:29.54 one single scripture 00:17:29.58\00:17:31.15 there authorizing the change of the day of worship 00:17:31.18\00:17:35.92 from Saturday to Sunday. 00:17:35.95\00:17:37.99 In the Old Testament, 00:17:38.02\00:17:40.49 the first day is mentioned on one occasion 00:17:40.52\00:17:43.53 and that's in Genesis 1 00:17:43.56\00:17:44.89 when God on the very first day created light. 00:17:44.93\00:17:49.03 And in the New Testament, there are eight references 00:17:49.06\00:17:51.53 to the first day of the week, 00:17:51.57\00:17:53.44 five directly in relation to the resurrection of Jesus 00:17:53.47\00:17:57.07 He was raised on the first day of the week. 00:17:57.11\00:17:59.97 And three others they're in the New Testament, 00:18:00.01\00:18:03.18 one in John, another one in Acts 00:18:03.21\00:18:05.78 and another one in Corinthians. 00:18:05.81\00:18:07.25 Don't have time to look at those passages, 00:18:07.28\00:18:09.12 you can do that in your own time. 00:18:09.15\00:18:10.95 But neither one of those eight passages 00:18:10.99\00:18:13.59 speak of any change taking place, 00:18:13.62\00:18:16.26 either in the time of Christ 00:18:16.29\00:18:18.06 or in the time of His disciples. 00:18:18.09\00:18:22.66 So what we need to ask is what was going on 00:18:22.70\00:18:28.04 during the time of Christ, 00:18:28.07\00:18:29.40 what was going on 00:18:29.44\00:18:30.77 during the time of the early church? 00:18:30.81\00:18:32.14 What does the Bible say? 00:18:32.17\00:18:33.54 And so this is a little bit of recap 00:18:33.58\00:18:35.41 from what we have already looked at 00:18:35.44\00:18:36.91 in our previous presentation. 00:18:36.95\00:18:38.48 Notice what we read in Luke 4:16. 00:18:38.51\00:18:42.02 "So He came to Nazareth," speaking of Jesus, 00:18:42.05\00:18:44.32 "where He had been brought up. 00:18:44.35\00:18:46.09 And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue 00:18:46.12\00:18:49.32 on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read." 00:18:49.36\00:18:52.49 That's speaking of Christ. 00:18:52.53\00:18:53.86 Now notice what we read next, 00:18:53.90\00:18:57.10 we read regarding the Apostle Paul. 00:18:57.13\00:19:00.64 "Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, 00:19:00.67\00:19:04.21 and for three Sabbath reasoned with them 00:19:04.24\00:19:07.48 from the Scriptures." 00:19:07.51\00:19:09.41 We go on. 00:19:09.44\00:19:11.61 "So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, 00:19:11.65\00:19:13.92 the Gentiles begged that these words might be 00:19:13.95\00:19:16.28 preached to them the next Sabbath. 00:19:16.32\00:19:18.22 On the next Sabbath 00:19:18.25\00:19:19.59 almost the whole city came together 00:19:19.62\00:19:21.89 to hear the Word of God." 00:19:21.92\00:19:23.26 That's in Acts 13:42-44. 00:19:23.29\00:19:27.26 So here we have testimony and the evidence 00:19:27.30\00:19:31.53 from the New Testament that the Apostle Paul, 00:19:31.57\00:19:34.24 he not only went into the synagogue on the Sabbath, 00:19:34.27\00:19:37.07 and ministered to the Jews, and preached to the Jews, 00:19:37.11\00:19:39.57 and shared with them, 00:19:39.61\00:19:41.14 but he also shared with the Gentiles. 00:19:41.18\00:19:43.24 Now the Gentiles were not Jews, but He shared with them also 00:19:43.28\00:19:47.78 on the seventh-day Sabbath as the scriptures share. 00:19:47.82\00:19:51.79 When it comes to Jesus, Jesus made it very clear that 00:19:51.82\00:19:56.96 40 years after He would go to heaven, 00:19:56.99\00:20:01.23 the Sabbath would remain. 00:20:01.26\00:20:02.86 Notice what Jesus said in Matthew 24:20, 00:20:02.90\00:20:08.04 what He shared with His disciples, 00:20:08.07\00:20:09.84 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter 00:20:09.87\00:20:13.24 or on the Sabbath." 00:20:13.27\00:20:15.24 Now this is in relation 00:20:15.28\00:20:16.98 to the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:20:17.01\00:20:19.21 Jesus warned that Jerusalem would be destroyed, 00:20:19.25\00:20:23.08 the temple would be destroyed, 00:20:23.12\00:20:24.45 not one stone would be left upon another 00:20:24.49\00:20:27.06 in the words of Jesus. 00:20:27.09\00:20:28.66 And Jesus said that when it comes time to flee, 00:20:28.69\00:20:32.63 and Jesus had given warnings, 00:20:32.66\00:20:35.53 and He had given an escape plan 00:20:35.56\00:20:37.77 for those who were interested in following His instructions, 00:20:37.80\00:20:41.30 you can read about that in Matthew Chapter 24. 00:20:41.34\00:20:43.67 And He said, when the time comes to flee, 00:20:43.71\00:20:47.51 when the doors are open, and there's a reprieve 00:20:47.54\00:20:51.28 and there's an opportunity, the door is opened, 00:20:51.31\00:20:54.18 make sure you don't flee during winter 00:20:54.22\00:20:57.15 for obvious reasons or on the Sabbath day. 00:20:57.19\00:21:00.76 This is 70 AD well and truly 00:21:00.79\00:21:04.93 down the track 00:21:04.96\00:21:06.29 from when Jesus was here, 00:21:06.33\00:21:09.23 and well and truly into the New Testament period. 00:21:09.26\00:21:11.93 In Hebrews 4:4, 9, we discover, 00:21:11.97\00:21:16.71 the Apostle Paul writes, 00:21:16.74\00:21:18.27 "For He has spoken in a certain place 00:21:18.31\00:21:20.98 of the seventh-day in this way, 00:21:21.01\00:21:23.21 'And God rested on the seventh day 00:21:23.24\00:21:24.98 from all His works.' 00:21:25.01\00:21:26.41 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.' 00:21:26.45\00:21:30.19 " So the New Testament is very clear. 00:21:30.22\00:21:32.45 "There remains therefore a rest for the people of God." 00:21:32.49\00:21:37.19 The Sabbath remains for all of God's people, 00:21:37.23\00:21:40.36 all the way down through time, 00:21:40.40\00:21:42.36 all the way from the time of Christ 00:21:42.40\00:21:44.90 to the second coming and as we have discovered 00:21:44.93\00:21:47.24 and beyond. 00:21:47.27\00:21:48.60 I find it fascinating that the word for Saturday 00:21:48.64\00:21:52.21 in many languages of the Bible 00:21:52.24\00:21:55.01 literally is translated as Sabbath. 00:21:55.04\00:21:57.91 Here we go. 00:21:57.95\00:21:59.28 I have just a few here a few examples of how, 00:21:59.31\00:22:03.02 "In over 100 modern 00:22:03.05\00:22:05.05 and ancient languages of the world, 00:22:05.09\00:22:07.06 the root word for Saturday is Sabbath." 00:22:07.09\00:22:09.59 Notice these, in German, 00:22:09.62\00:22:12.23 the word for Saturday is Samstag, 00:22:12.26\00:22:15.56 which means Sabbath day. 00:22:15.60\00:22:16.93 In French, Samedi or Sabbath day also. 00:22:16.97\00:22:19.63 In Spanish, Sabado, which means Sabbath. 00:22:19.67\00:22:22.20 Italian, Sabbato, Sabbath. 00:22:22.24\00:22:24.74 Macedonian, the language that I grew up with, 00:22:24.77\00:22:27.38 Sabota or Sabbath. 00:22:27.41\00:22:29.04 Serbo-Croatian Subota, which also means Sabbath. 00:22:29.08\00:22:34.28 Arabic Sabet, Sabbath, Sudanese, Saptu, Maltese, 00:22:34.32\00:22:39.69 is-Sibt, Latin, Sabbatum, Czech, Sobota, Gregorian, 00:22:39.72\00:22:45.13 Sabati, Greek, Savvato, Armenian Shabat, 00:22:45.16\00:22:49.50 and Russian Subbota. 00:22:49.53\00:22:51.43 So can you see the word for Saturday comes to us 00:22:51.47\00:22:56.71 in all these different languages 00:22:56.74\00:22:58.77 from that very word Sabbath? 00:22:58.81\00:23:00.98 It's continued on. 00:23:01.01\00:23:03.28 Now in English, the word for Saturday 00:23:03.31\00:23:06.38 is not Sabbath that we generally use. 00:23:06.41\00:23:10.39 It's Saturday, of course. 00:23:10.42\00:23:12.39 And that comes to us from the Roman god systems 00:23:12.42\00:23:16.93 that worship different gods on different days of the week. 00:23:16.96\00:23:20.43 And so Saturday comes from Saturn, 00:23:20.46\00:23:23.57 Saturn's day and Sunday 00:23:23.60\00:23:25.93 is, of course, the day of the sun, 00:23:25.97\00:23:28.37 Monday is the day of the moon, and so on and so forth. 00:23:28.40\00:23:31.64 And you can go through all the days of the week 00:23:31.67\00:23:33.44 that are based on the planetary gods 00:23:33.48\00:23:36.85 that the Romans had that we have inherited 00:23:36.88\00:23:40.62 for our English names of the days of the week. 00:23:40.65\00:23:44.69 Now, the day of worship 00:23:44.72\00:23:50.43 from Saturday to Sunday 00:23:50.46\00:23:52.76 has been changed. 00:23:52.79\00:23:54.23 That is obvious and most Christians today 00:23:54.26\00:23:57.73 worship on the first day of the week, on Sunday. 00:23:57.77\00:24:01.00 So the question that begs to be asked, 00:24:01.04\00:24:03.77 and we need to answer is how 00:24:03.81\00:24:05.77 and when did the change take place? 00:24:05.81\00:24:09.58 How and when did the change take place? 00:24:09.61\00:24:11.91 Now that's a very important question. 00:24:11.95\00:24:13.62 Now why is this question very important? 00:24:13.65\00:24:15.78 Because this question has everything to do with worship. 00:24:15.82\00:24:20.32 What is the key issue in the entire Bible? 00:24:20.36\00:24:23.69 Worship, allegiance, loyalty, 00:24:23.73\00:24:26.19 there is nothing more important than worship. 00:24:26.23\00:24:30.27 God created Adam and Eve in His image 00:24:30.30\00:24:33.47 for them to have fellowship with Him, 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.47 for them to be in union with Him, 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.74 for them ultimately to worship Him as their Lord, 00:24:37.77\00:24:41.44 and as their God, and as their Creator. 00:24:41.48\00:24:45.81 This is so significant and so important, 00:24:45.85\00:24:48.75 in that we know from the very beginning of time 00:24:48.78\00:24:53.62 as we read through Revelation, as we read through the Bible, 00:24:53.66\00:24:57.46 as we read through the Book of Isaiah, 00:24:57.49\00:24:59.46 as we read through the Book of Ezekiel 00:24:59.49\00:25:01.20 we discover that the enemy, Satan, 00:25:01.23\00:25:05.63 who was once called Lucifer, 00:25:05.67\00:25:08.37 who was God's leading angel, 00:25:08.40\00:25:10.61 he rebelled and formed 00:25:10.64\00:25:12.51 a rebellion around him 00:25:12.54\00:25:14.34 of one third of the angels 00:25:14.38\00:25:16.11 because he wanted to be worshiped. 00:25:16.14\00:25:20.08 In Isaiah Chapter 14, we don't have time to go there. 00:25:20.12\00:25:22.88 But in Isaiah Chapter 14, he cries out, 00:25:22.92\00:25:26.55 I will be like the Most High, 00:25:26.59\00:25:28.76 I will be worshiped like the Most High, 00:25:28.79\00:25:31.06 and God alone deserves to be worshiped. 00:25:31.09\00:25:33.86 No one else, God alone. 00:25:33.90\00:25:36.06 And so this is a significant issue. 00:25:36.10\00:25:38.63 And so I wanted to know the answer to this question, 00:25:38.67\00:25:41.90 how and when did the change take place? 00:25:41.94\00:25:44.17 I wasn't interested in hearing from others. 00:25:44.21\00:25:46.57 So I decided to do my own research. 00:25:46.61\00:25:48.78 About 20 years ago or so I spent three months 00:25:48.81\00:25:53.11 researching this very subject. 00:25:53.15\00:25:55.25 I wanted to find out the truth. 00:25:55.28\00:25:57.62 And so I came across this book here 00:25:57.65\00:26:01.66 that I have up there on the screen for you. 00:26:01.69\00:26:05.63 Book written by Samuele Bacchiocchi, 00:26:05.66\00:26:07.60 in fact, it's his doctoral dissertation 00:26:07.63\00:26:10.07 and it's entitled, 00:26:10.10\00:26:12.13 "From Sabbath to Sunday." 00:26:12.17\00:26:15.50 Subtitle, 00:26:15.54\00:26:16.87 "A historical investigation of the rise 00:26:16.91\00:26:19.14 of Sunday observance in early Christianity." 00:26:19.17\00:26:22.68 Now this book by Samuele Bacchiocchi, 00:26:22.71\00:26:25.01 as I pointed out, it's his doctoral dissertation. 00:26:25.05\00:26:28.08 It was printed there, as you can see, 00:26:28.12\00:26:31.85 at the Pontifical Gregorian University Press back in 1977. 00:26:31.89\00:26:36.99 That's in the City of Rome. 00:26:37.03\00:26:40.16 Dr. Bacchiocchi has passed away a few years ago. 00:26:40.20\00:26:44.03 However, this would have to be 00:26:44.07\00:26:46.23 the leading historical document 00:26:46.27\00:26:49.17 that we have on this subject 00:26:49.20\00:26:50.57 in order to answer this question. 00:26:50.61\00:26:53.81 This is such a significant piece of work 00:26:53.84\00:26:56.75 that it received the highest award and honor 00:26:56.78\00:27:00.98 by the Church of Rome for the historical accuracy. 00:27:01.02\00:27:06.29 You see, Dr. Bacchiocchi, he was one of the first 00:27:06.32\00:27:08.69 if not the very first, not quite sure about that. 00:27:08.72\00:27:11.96 But he was one of the first Protestants 00:27:11.99\00:27:13.90 to study and get his doctorate 00:27:13.93\00:27:17.83 from the Pontifical Gregorian University 00:27:17.87\00:27:20.74 there in Rome itself. 00:27:20.77\00:27:22.30 And so we studied these original sources 00:27:22.34\00:27:25.61 in order to discover the truth of how the change took place 00:27:25.64\00:27:29.61 from Saturday or from the Sabbath to Sunday. 00:27:29.64\00:27:33.05 Notice these words 00:27:33.08\00:27:35.38 written by Vincenzo Monachino, 00:27:35.42\00:27:40.69 I probably hashed that name. 00:27:40.72\00:27:42.86 But anyway, he is the Chairman 00:27:42.89\00:27:44.59 of the Church History Department, 00:27:44.63\00:27:46.90 Pontifical Gregorian University. 00:27:46.93\00:27:48.56 Notice what he had to say regarding this work 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.67 of Dr. Bacchiocchi. 00:27:51.70\00:27:53.03 "It is a work that recommends itself 00:27:53.07\00:27:54.97 because of its rich content, the rigorous scientific method, 00:27:55.00\00:27:58.44 and the vast horizon with which it has been conceived 00:27:58.47\00:28:01.58 and executed." 00:28:01.61\00:28:04.35 Notice this introduction to the book, 00:28:04.38\00:28:08.98 "The investigation shows," 00:28:09.02\00:28:11.32 and I'm reading from the book, from the introduction, 00:28:11.35\00:28:13.76 "the adoption of Sunday in place of the Sabbath 00:28:13.79\00:28:16.42 did not occur 00:28:16.46\00:28:17.79 in the primitive Church of Jerusalem 00:28:17.83\00:28:19.29 by virtue of apostolic authority, 00:28:19.33\00:28:21.56 but approximately a century later 00:28:21.60\00:28:23.80 in the Church of Rome. 00:28:23.83\00:28:25.27 An interplay of Jewish, pagan, and Christian factors 00:28:25.30\00:28:28.47 contributed to the abandonment of the Sabbath 00:28:28.50\00:28:31.44 and adoption of Sunday observance instead." 00:28:31.47\00:28:34.71 So that is what took place. 00:28:34.74\00:28:36.41 It was a gradual change, the change of the Sabbath 00:28:36.44\00:28:40.12 took place gradually, and that's what 00:28:40.15\00:28:41.78 you can read in this document, and other documents. 00:28:41.82\00:28:44.85 So as I read through this book, 00:28:44.89\00:28:47.16 and as I read through many other books, 00:28:47.19\00:28:49.86 I discovered that they were probably 00:28:49.89\00:28:51.23 three significant reasons 00:28:51.26\00:28:53.56 why and how the change took place. 00:28:53.60\00:28:55.93 And I wanna share with you a summary from Dr. Bacchiocchi, 00:28:55.96\00:28:58.57 he probably has summarized that better 00:28:58.60\00:29:01.04 than most have come across. 00:29:01.07\00:29:02.40 And here they are, here are the three key points. 00:29:02.44\00:29:06.64 There was Anti-Judaism, 00:29:06.68\00:29:10.25 "During the 2nd century, Christians developed 00:29:10.28\00:29:12.48 a theology of separation from and contempt towards the Jews." 00:29:12.51\00:29:17.09 Now why is that? 00:29:17.12\00:29:18.45 What you see what is going on 00:29:18.49\00:29:20.06 is that the Jews were getting themselves 00:29:20.09\00:29:23.09 into a lot of trouble from the Romans. 00:29:23.12\00:29:26.49 You can read about that in your history books, 00:29:26.53\00:29:29.00 there were all sorts of uprisings. 00:29:29.03\00:29:31.53 And so the Romans were giving the Jews 00:29:31.57\00:29:35.10 a good old pounding. 00:29:35.14\00:29:36.74 And guess who got caught up in the crossfire? 00:29:36.77\00:29:39.51 The Christians because they both worshiped 00:29:39.54\00:29:42.08 on the same day of the week, both the Christians 00:29:42.11\00:29:44.45 and the Jews worshiped on the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:29:44.48\00:29:47.08 So they wanted to distinguish themselves 00:29:47.12\00:29:49.32 from their Jewish friends and neighbors 00:29:49.35\00:29:52.35 and so they began to keep Sunday 00:29:52.39\00:29:56.59 as well not as a holy day, H-O-L-Y, 00:29:56.62\00:30:00.86 but as a holiday, H-O-L-I-D-A-Y. 00:30:00.90\00:30:04.53 And so it was day of festivity, but it distinguished them 00:30:04.57\00:30:07.60 from their Jewish neighbors. 00:30:07.64\00:30:09.40 Number two, Sun Worship, 00:30:09.44\00:30:11.74 "The pagan Romans worshiped the sun as their chief god. 00:30:11.77\00:30:15.24 The Christians, in order to be friend the pagans, 00:30:15.28\00:30:17.75 began to adopt the symbol of the sun 00:30:17.78\00:30:19.85 and Sunday as a replacement day of worship 00:30:19.88\00:30:22.38 by reasoning that God created light 00:30:22.42\00:30:24.59 and Jesus was raised on the first day." 00:30:24.62\00:30:26.76 So that was their reasoning. 00:30:26.79\00:30:28.12 And so they began to slowly 00:30:28.16\00:30:30.69 but surely changed their day of worship 00:30:30.73\00:30:32.83 in order to try and win and attract the Romans. 00:30:32.86\00:30:35.70 And the Romans they worshiped the sun god, 00:30:35.73\00:30:39.80 and the one who especially made sun worship 00:30:39.83\00:30:43.61 or Sunday worship. 00:30:43.64\00:30:46.37 Very popular was the first Roman Emperor 00:30:46.41\00:30:48.71 to become a Christian 00:30:48.74\00:30:50.08 and that was Constantine in the year 321 AD, 00:30:50.11\00:30:53.38 Constantine he proclaimed the first national Sunday law 00:30:53.42\00:30:59.15 where he mandated 00:30:59.19\00:31:02.16 that all within his empire 00:31:02.19\00:31:04.63 would worship on the day of the sun 00:31:04.66\00:31:07.03 in order to bring about a union 00:31:07.06\00:31:09.66 between the pagans and the Christians. 00:31:09.70\00:31:11.70 That was a political move on his part, 00:31:11.73\00:31:14.10 but that was the second reason. 00:31:14.14\00:31:15.80 Now the third reason is this. 00:31:15.84\00:31:18.54 The Church at Rome, 00:31:18.57\00:31:20.38 "The most powerful church in the Roman Empire 00:31:20.41\00:31:22.71 encouraged Sunday worship rather than Saturday worship. 00:31:22.74\00:31:25.48 The Sabbath became a day of fasting 00:31:25.51\00:31:28.35 and Sunday became a day of feasting." 00:31:28.38\00:31:31.52 That's according to Dr. Bacchiocchi 00:31:31.55\00:31:33.96 and his research. 00:31:33.99\00:31:35.36 So how excited would you be 00:31:35.39\00:31:37.19 as a little boy or a little girl 00:31:37.23\00:31:39.43 during the time when this all took place 00:31:39.46\00:31:42.63 regarding the Sabbath? 00:31:42.66\00:31:44.03 It was a day of fasting. 00:31:44.07\00:31:46.23 And Sunday was the day of feasting. 00:31:46.27\00:31:49.10 So slowly but surely over time, things changed 00:31:49.14\00:31:53.61 and from the seventh-day Sabbath 00:31:53.64\00:31:56.71 to the first day of the week, 00:31:56.75\00:31:58.68 but as you go through history 00:31:58.71\00:32:00.05 and you read through the history books, 00:32:00.08\00:32:02.25 especially there in Africa, you discover that 00:32:02.28\00:32:05.59 Sabbath keeping remained 00:32:05.62\00:32:07.29 all the way from the time of Christ, 00:32:07.32\00:32:09.06 all the way through to today. 00:32:09.09\00:32:11.23 There have been Sabbath keepers, 00:32:11.26\00:32:12.93 seventh-day Sabbath keepers, 00:32:12.96\00:32:14.70 not many of them at different times, 00:32:14.73\00:32:17.07 but they have been scattered here and there 00:32:17.10\00:32:19.07 that have remained true to God 00:32:19.10\00:32:20.87 and to His Word. 00:32:20.90\00:32:22.64 When it comes to this question, 00:32:22.67\00:32:24.01 I also decided that I needed to get hold of 00:32:24.04\00:32:27.44 Convert's Catechism, which why I did. 00:32:27.48\00:32:29.74 So I got hold of this Convert's Catechism 00:32:29.78\00:32:32.28 and in this Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 00:32:32.31\00:32:37.05 its question and answer and notice what we find here. 00:32:37.09\00:32:40.92 Here we have these words. 00:32:40.96\00:32:43.83 The question, "Which is the Sabbath day?" 00:32:43.86\00:32:47.66 The answer, "Saturday is the Sabbath day." 00:32:47.70\00:32:51.00 Another question, 00:32:51.03\00:32:53.13 "Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?" 00:32:53.17\00:32:55.97 And the answer, 00:32:56.00\00:32:57.57 "We observe Sunday instead of Saturday 00:32:57.61\00:32:59.57 because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity 00:32:59.61\00:33:03.24 from Saturday to Sunday." 00:33:03.28\00:33:05.61 So that is what the church itself says that 00:33:05.65\00:33:09.05 it is responsible 00:33:09.08\00:33:11.69 for changing the day of worship, 00:33:11.72\00:33:14.62 as far as Christians are concerned 00:33:14.66\00:33:16.42 from Saturday to Sunday. 00:33:16.46\00:33:17.79 Yes, they were these other factors involved, 00:33:17.83\00:33:19.89 as I've already put up there on the screen for you. 00:33:19.93\00:33:23.06 However, the key reason today 00:33:23.10\00:33:27.17 why not only Roman Catholic Christians, 00:33:27.20\00:33:30.97 but Christians of all various persuasions 00:33:31.01\00:33:34.81 keep holy or worship on the first day of the week 00:33:34.84\00:33:38.95 is due to this change that was made 00:33:38.98\00:33:41.78 by the Church of Rome 00:33:41.82\00:33:43.15 who openly admits that is what took place. 00:33:43.18\00:33:46.99 Now did this catch God by surprise? 00:33:47.02\00:33:49.72 Was God caught by surprise when this took place, 00:33:49.76\00:33:53.63 when this incredible change took place? 00:33:53.66\00:33:56.33 No. 00:33:56.36\00:33:57.70 Notice what we read in the Book of Daniel. 00:33:57.73\00:33:59.93 In Daniel 7:25, 2,500 years ago, 00:33:59.97\00:34:05.07 almost 1,000 years before the change took place, 00:34:05.11\00:34:09.08 God predicted through His servant Daniel 00:34:09.11\00:34:11.61 that a power would arise 00:34:11.65\00:34:13.68 that would intend to change God's times 00:34:13.72\00:34:17.72 and His law. 00:34:17.75\00:34:19.62 Daniel 7:25. 00:34:19.65\00:34:22.42 We have played out in history 00:34:22.46\00:34:25.29 what God said would take place. 00:34:25.33\00:34:27.56 This power that would attempt to change God's holy time 00:34:27.60\00:34:31.83 and God's holy law. 00:34:31.87\00:34:35.17 The Apostle Paul speaks on this in his day 00:34:35.20\00:34:38.47 and this is what he writes. 00:34:38.51\00:34:40.58 In 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4, he writes, 00:34:40.61\00:34:44.08 "Let no one deceive you by any means for that Day," 00:34:44.11\00:34:46.85 speaking of the Second Coming, 00:34:46.88\00:34:48.58 "will not come unless the falling away comes first," 00:34:48.62\00:34:52.05 the word there falling away in the original 00:34:52.09\00:34:54.76 is the word apostasia. 00:34:54.79\00:34:56.62 It's where we get our English word apostasy from 00:34:56.66\00:34:59.79 or people who apostatize 00:34:59.83\00:35:01.16 they fall away from Bible truth. 00:35:01.20\00:35:03.10 That's what it means to apostatize. 00:35:03.13\00:35:04.83 We keep reading. 00:35:04.87\00:35:06.60 "And the man of sin is revealed," 00:35:06.63\00:35:08.54 speaking of this power 00:35:08.57\00:35:10.04 that would seek to change God's times and laws, 00:35:10.07\00:35:12.44 "the son of perdition," 00:35:12.47\00:35:13.81 here is another reference to this power, 00:35:13.84\00:35:15.91 "who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God 00:35:15.94\00:35:19.35 or that is worshiped." 00:35:19.38\00:35:20.72 There is that word, that keyword, 00:35:20.75\00:35:22.32 "so that he sits as God in the temple of God, 00:35:22.35\00:35:25.12 showing himself that he is God." 00:35:25.15\00:35:27.92 So the enemy would use a power 00:35:27.96\00:35:31.59 and that is how the enemy has always operated. 00:35:31.63\00:35:35.26 Satan has never come out in the open and done his dirty, 00:35:35.30\00:35:39.70 deceiving work in the open. 00:35:39.73\00:35:42.84 He didn't do that with Adam and Eve. 00:35:42.87\00:35:45.61 He deceived Eve through what means 00:35:45.64\00:35:47.84 and through what avenue? 00:35:47.88\00:35:49.44 Through the serpent. Isn't that right? 00:35:49.48\00:35:51.18 He used the serpent as a medium. 00:35:51.21\00:35:54.32 The angels were deceived, one-third of the angels 00:35:54.35\00:35:56.85 were deceived through his lies, 00:35:56.89\00:36:00.36 through his deception. 00:36:00.39\00:36:02.42 And he deceives you and I today. 00:36:02.46\00:36:05.49 He seeks to deceive you and I today I should say, 00:36:05.53\00:36:08.20 I pray that we will not be deceived. 00:36:08.23\00:36:10.00 If we remain in God's Word we will never be deceived. 00:36:10.03\00:36:13.27 But he seeks to deceive us in the same way 00:36:13.30\00:36:16.34 through his counterfeit. 00:36:16.37\00:36:18.37 Now the enemy is seeking that which belongs to God 00:36:18.41\00:36:22.58 and God alone and that is worship. 00:36:22.61\00:36:25.81 There is a power that the enemy uses as his front man 00:36:25.85\00:36:29.42 in order to receive worship. 00:36:29.45\00:36:32.15 And that is any and every institution, 00:36:32.19\00:36:35.82 not just the Church of Rome, 00:36:35.86\00:36:37.43 but any and every institution 00:36:37.46\00:36:40.20 that seeks to substitute 00:36:40.23\00:36:42.26 the clear Word of God that seeks to change 00:36:42.30\00:36:45.60 the clear commandments of God 00:36:45.63\00:36:49.07 and instead place the traditions 00:36:49.10\00:36:52.04 or the suppositions or the inventions of man. 00:36:52.07\00:36:56.64 Now on this point, 00:36:56.68\00:36:58.71 I have this historical document 00:36:58.75\00:37:03.45 or have these quotes from a number of the churches, 00:37:03.49\00:37:06.99 authoritative quotations on the Sabbath and Sunday, 00:37:07.02\00:37:10.23 so it's not just the Church of Rome 00:37:10.26\00:37:12.16 that is admitting to this change 00:37:12.19\00:37:16.36 and to what day is the true Sabbath day 00:37:16.40\00:37:19.07 and the significance of that, but many other churches. 00:37:19.10\00:37:21.20 I'll just put up a couple up there 00:37:21.24\00:37:23.47 where leaders of the various 00:37:23.51\00:37:26.44 Christian churches share. 00:37:26.47\00:37:28.28 Here is one from the Anglican Manual 00:37:28.31\00:37:31.15 of Christian Doctrine, page 127. 00:37:31.18\00:37:33.85 The question, "Is there any command 00:37:33.88\00:37:35.88 in the New Testament 00:37:35.92\00:37:37.25 to change the day of weekly rest 00:37:37.29\00:37:38.95 from Saturday to Sunday?" 00:37:38.99\00:37:40.46 And the answer is none. 00:37:40.49\00:37:42.66 Here is another one, this time, Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, 00:37:42.69\00:37:47.56 he is the author of The Baptist Manual 00:37:47.60\00:37:49.86 and this is what he writes on the subject. 00:37:49.90\00:37:52.00 "There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, 00:37:52.03\00:37:55.77 but the Sabbath day was not Sunday. 00:37:55.80\00:37:57.84 It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, 00:37:57.87\00:38:01.14 that the Sabbath was transferred 00:38:01.18\00:38:03.01 from the seventh to the first day of the week." 00:38:03.04\00:38:05.55 He goes on. 00:38:05.58\00:38:07.45 "Where can the record of such a transaction be found? 00:38:07.48\00:38:11.05 Not in the New Testament- absolutely not. 00:38:11.09\00:38:14.62 There is no Scriptural evidence of the change 00:38:14.66\00:38:17.29 of the Sabbath institution 00:38:17.33\00:38:18.69 from the seventh to the first day of the week." 00:38:18.73\00:38:22.63 So here we have 00:38:22.66\00:38:24.37 these leading church authorities 00:38:24.40\00:38:29.20 who know their Bibles 00:38:29.24\00:38:30.57 better than you, better than me, 00:38:30.61\00:38:32.34 probably better than most people. 00:38:32.37\00:38:34.08 And they have read the Bible. 00:38:34.11\00:38:36.44 They have read the Bible from cover to cover, 00:38:36.48\00:38:38.98 and they have discovered the truth 00:38:39.01\00:38:41.65 that there has been no change 00:38:41.68\00:38:43.75 and that the Sabbath day 00:38:43.79\00:38:45.35 remains as the seventh day of the week. 00:38:45.39\00:38:47.39 This is a very interesting, 00:38:52.19\00:38:55.53 I guess document 00:38:55.56\00:38:56.90 that was put out probably more than 00:38:56.93\00:38:58.83 a century ago now. 00:38:58.87\00:39:00.37 Rome's Challenge, Why Do Protestants Keep Sunday? 00:39:00.40\00:39:05.47 And in these four articles that were written 00:39:05.51\00:39:09.91 by the Church of Rome, addressing the question 00:39:09.94\00:39:13.42 of Why Do Protestants Keep Sunday? 00:39:13.45\00:39:15.42 They ask the million dollar question, 00:39:15.45\00:39:19.55 and this is it. 00:39:19.59\00:39:22.42 If Protestants believe and teach 00:39:22.46\00:39:26.19 that they stand on the Bible and the Bible alone, 00:39:26.23\00:39:30.10 on Sola Scriptura, and if they believe 00:39:30.13\00:39:33.64 in God's Ten Commandments, 00:39:33.67\00:39:35.70 then why do Protestants keep Sunday 00:39:35.74\00:39:39.94 as their day of worship 00:39:39.97\00:39:41.44 rather than Saturday as their day of worship 00:39:41.48\00:39:44.85 according to what the Scriptures teach? 00:39:44.88\00:39:47.02 Isn't that a good question? 00:39:47.05\00:39:48.42 That's a very good question. 00:39:48.45\00:39:50.79 The Church of Rome rightly says, 00:39:50.82\00:39:54.09 "We changed the day of worship, 00:39:54.12\00:39:55.66 therefore we are allowed to worship on this day 00:39:55.69\00:39:58.66 and we don't claim to go by Sola Scriptura, 00:39:58.69\00:40:02.53 the Bible and the Bible alone, 00:40:02.56\00:40:03.90 but you Protestants do, you Protestants claim 00:40:03.93\00:40:07.54 that you live by every word that proceeds 00:40:07.57\00:40:10.17 from the mouth of God, 00:40:10.21\00:40:11.54 yet in this all important matter 00:40:11.57\00:40:13.51 that deals with one of the very commandments of God 00:40:13.54\00:40:16.71 with a commandment that begins 00:40:16.75\00:40:18.11 with the word Remember, you choose to willfully 00:40:18.15\00:40:21.95 and conveniently forget." 00:40:21.98\00:40:24.22 And so that is the challenge. 00:40:24.25\00:40:25.95 And it's a very, very good challenge. 00:40:25.99\00:40:28.09 And I take my hat off, 00:40:28.12\00:40:29.62 and I respect the Church of Rome 00:40:29.66\00:40:32.66 for being honest and upfront. 00:40:32.69\00:40:36.03 But I don't have respect for those that try 00:40:36.06\00:40:38.97 and come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful reasons 00:40:39.00\00:40:42.57 that are not in Scripture, of why they can neglect 00:40:42.60\00:40:47.08 the Word of God in such an important matter 00:40:47.11\00:40:49.68 as worship 00:40:49.71\00:40:51.41 and the keeping of God's fourth commandment, 00:40:51.45\00:40:56.18 I just don't understand, and there's just no excuse 00:40:56.22\00:40:59.45 for others to follow in that way. 00:40:59.49\00:41:03.53 Martin Luther, Martin Luther 00:41:03.56\00:41:07.06 challenged the Church of Rome 00:41:07.10\00:41:09.40 in 1517, October 31, 1517, 00:41:09.43\00:41:14.47 Martin Luther, 00:41:14.50\00:41:17.04 a Church of Rome theologian 00:41:17.07\00:41:20.71 and highly respected monk, 00:41:20.74\00:41:24.11 one who was absolutely loyal 00:41:24.15\00:41:27.42 to his church finally realized 00:41:27.45\00:41:31.55 that his church in many important areas 00:41:31.59\00:41:35.19 had strayed away from God's truth from His word. 00:41:35.22\00:41:39.33 And he wanted to follow the Bible and the Bible alone. 00:41:39.36\00:41:42.16 And so Martin Luther nailed his "95 Theses 00:41:42.20\00:41:46.50 or 95 Reasons, 95 Disputes" 00:41:46.53\00:41:51.31 with the church regarding indulgences, 00:41:51.34\00:41:54.41 regarding how you and I are saved. 00:41:54.44\00:41:57.31 And he nailed that on the Wittenberg Church door. 00:41:57.35\00:42:01.85 Martin Luther called his beloved Church of Rome 00:42:01.88\00:42:06.45 back to the Scriptures, 00:42:06.49\00:42:08.69 back to the Word of God, 00:42:08.72\00:42:10.16 back to the commandments of God. 00:42:13.40\00:42:15.46 And so we have Martin Luther, 00:42:15.50\00:42:20.57 who challenged the Church of Rome, 00:42:20.60\00:42:22.90 his church, his beloved church, 00:42:22.94\00:42:24.97 to stand on Sola Scriptura. 00:42:25.01\00:42:28.04 And so the church almost, 00:42:31.08\00:42:34.88 yeah, just over three, 00:42:34.92\00:42:36.92 just over 20 years from that point in time, 00:42:36.95\00:42:42.06 almost three decades, I should say from 1517, 00:42:42.09\00:42:46.16 almost three decades on the church of Rome 00:42:46.19\00:42:50.37 conducted what is known as the Council of Trent 00:42:50.40\00:42:55.40 from 1545 to 1563, 00:42:55.44\00:42:59.07 18 years, 25 sessions, 00:42:59.11\00:43:02.01 probably one of the 00:43:02.04\00:43:03.38 if not the most important Council 00:43:03.41\00:43:06.05 of the Church of Rome. 00:43:06.08\00:43:07.68 And at this council, the church had 00:43:07.72\00:43:10.19 two major items that are discussed 00:43:10.22\00:43:13.82 during that 18-year period. 00:43:13.86\00:43:16.42 The two main objectives of the church council 00:43:16.46\00:43:18.76 were number one, "To condemn the principles 00:43:18.79\00:43:21.13 and doctrines of the Protestant Reformation or Protestantism." 00:43:21.16\00:43:25.33 And secondly, 00:43:25.37\00:43:26.70 "To clarify the doctrines of the Catholic Church 00:43:26.74\00:43:29.27 on all disputed points." 00:43:29.30\00:43:31.57 Martin Luther had raised a significant issue 00:43:31.61\00:43:35.21 and it created absolute turmoil within the church. 00:43:35.24\00:43:40.52 One of the key issues that was discussed 00:43:40.55\00:43:43.12 and debated as these two significant points 00:43:43.15\00:43:46.55 were addressed during this 18-year period 00:43:46.59\00:43:49.42 was whether the church would go with tradition, 00:43:49.46\00:43:54.56 or whether the church would go with the Bible? 00:43:54.60\00:43:58.93 Was that possible for the church 00:43:58.97\00:44:01.34 to have both the tradition in one hand 00:44:01.37\00:44:04.91 and God's truth in the other, 00:44:04.94\00:44:06.91 was that even possible? 00:44:06.94\00:44:08.91 There was a lot of toing and froing. 00:44:08.94\00:44:11.58 And finally the church decided 00:44:11.61\00:44:15.85 that of the two tradition 00:44:15.88\00:44:19.35 and truth, of the two the safest, 00:44:19.39\00:44:22.99 the more safe course of action was to follow tradition. 00:44:23.02\00:44:27.76 And why is that? 00:44:27.80\00:44:29.13 Because there is no way 00:44:29.16\00:44:30.60 the church could remain the way it was, 00:44:30.63\00:44:34.00 would remain to teach and practice the way 00:44:34.04\00:44:37.27 it had been up until this point. 00:44:37.31\00:44:40.51 If it wanted to continue, 00:44:40.54\00:44:42.58 if it wanted to follow God's truth, 00:44:42.61\00:44:44.31 it could not remain in that same way. 00:44:44.35\00:44:47.08 The images and the idols in the churches 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.32 that were worshiped and revered, 00:44:49.35\00:44:52.05 they had to go, as well the day of worship 00:44:52.09\00:44:57.26 needed to be changed 00:44:57.29\00:44:59.33 back to the biblical day of worship. 00:44:59.36\00:45:01.90 And so, sadly, the Church of Rome, 00:45:01.93\00:45:04.10 during the Council of Trent made a decision 00:45:04.13\00:45:07.34 that it would remain with the status quo 00:45:07.37\00:45:10.01 and would no longer abide by the Bible 00:45:10.04\00:45:13.58 and the Bible alone as that it claimed, 00:45:13.61\00:45:15.61 but it would be the Bible and tradition. 00:45:15.64\00:45:19.11 What did Jesus have to say about tradition? 00:45:19.15\00:45:22.22 Notice these words. 00:45:22.25\00:45:24.59 What did Jesus have to say 00:45:24.62\00:45:26.19 about placing tradition above God's truth? 00:45:26.22\00:45:30.66 What did Jesus have to say? 00:45:30.69\00:45:32.03 Let's go to His words. 00:45:32.06\00:45:33.40 In Mark 7:7-8, 00:45:33.43\00:45:37.33 Jesus addresses this very topic and He says, 00:45:37.37\00:45:40.30 "And in vain they worship Me, 00:45:40.34\00:45:43.17 teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." 00:45:43.20\00:45:45.87 He's speaking here to the religious leaders. 00:45:45.91\00:45:49.64 "For laying aside the commandment of God, 00:45:49.68\00:45:53.05 you hold to the tradition of men." 00:45:53.08\00:45:57.25 Nothing new under the sun as Solomon said. 00:45:57.29\00:46:01.02 Sadly, in the days of Christ, traditions were followed 00:46:01.06\00:46:04.73 more than God's truth. 00:46:04.76\00:46:07.20 If you take a look at the context of these words 00:46:07.23\00:46:10.00 that we read there in Mark Chapter 7, 00:46:10.03\00:46:12.17 you will discover that Jesus here 00:46:12.20\00:46:14.30 is addressing amongst a number of other points, 00:46:14.34\00:46:17.87 the issue of honoring your mother and your father. 00:46:17.91\00:46:21.71 You see, the religious leaders had come up with a tradition 00:46:21.74\00:46:25.45 whereby you could dishonor your mother and your father, 00:46:25.48\00:46:29.55 live a selfish life and still be seen 00:46:29.58\00:46:33.19 and classed as honorable 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.22 amongst your religious community. 00:46:35.26\00:46:38.43 All you needed to do 00:46:38.46\00:46:39.79 was pledge all of your belongings, 00:46:39.83\00:46:42.93 all of your treasures 00:46:42.96\00:46:45.70 to the church after you died, 00:46:45.73\00:46:49.40 and you did not need to take care of your parents 00:46:49.44\00:46:52.21 while they were still alive. 00:46:52.24\00:46:55.51 Yet the Bible says, 00:46:55.54\00:46:57.98 honor your mother and your father. 00:46:58.01\00:47:01.75 But they had taken that commandment, 00:47:01.78\00:47:04.02 thrown it out the window, 00:47:04.05\00:47:05.65 come up with their own commandment 00:47:05.69\00:47:07.96 to encourage and invite selfishness 00:47:07.99\00:47:11.29 and self-centeredness, 00:47:11.33\00:47:13.76 and dishonoring mother and father 00:47:13.80\00:47:15.73 and not taking care of them in a day 00:47:15.76\00:47:17.67 and age where there was no Centrelink, 00:47:17.70\00:47:19.70 and there were no pensions where parents, 00:47:19.73\00:47:23.61 aged parents relied on their children 00:47:23.64\00:47:26.07 to support them. 00:47:26.11\00:47:28.41 And the church of the day, 00:47:28.44\00:47:29.78 the religious leaders of the day 00:47:29.81\00:47:31.58 had thrown out the fifth commandment, 00:47:31.61\00:47:34.32 and instead had come up with their own tradition. 00:47:34.35\00:47:36.79 And Jesus shares these words, 00:47:36.82\00:47:39.82 "In vain they worship Me, 00:47:39.85\00:47:43.49 teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. 00:47:43.53\00:47:45.93 For laying aside the commandment of God, 00:47:45.96\00:47:48.26 you hold the tradition of men." 00:47:48.30\00:47:51.97 So today you and I are faced with that same decision 00:47:52.00\00:47:55.67 that Martin Luther was faced with 00:47:55.70\00:47:57.77 that Jesus challenged His religious leaders of His day 00:47:57.81\00:48:03.61 and the people of His day will it be truth or tradition. 00:48:03.65\00:48:08.98 We must make a choice, 00:48:09.02\00:48:10.75 will it be following what God says 00:48:10.79\00:48:13.82 and keeping His commandments including the one 00:48:13.86\00:48:17.56 that begins with the word Remember, 00:48:17.59\00:48:19.29 following God's Word? 00:48:19.33\00:48:21.43 Or will it be keeping the commandments of men, 00:48:21.46\00:48:25.07 and following the traditions of men, Jesus said, 00:48:25.10\00:48:28.37 "He who is not with Me is against Me." 00:48:28.40\00:48:31.04 We cannot have it both ways. 00:48:31.07\00:48:33.44 We cannot have a foot in each camp. 00:48:33.48\00:48:37.65 Jesus says that you are with Me 00:48:37.68\00:48:39.31 or you're against Me. 00:48:39.35\00:48:40.68 You're either serving Me or you're not serving Me, 00:48:40.72\00:48:42.82 you're either worshiping Me in spirit, 00:48:42.85\00:48:45.32 and in truth, or you're not. 00:48:45.35\00:48:47.39 We cannot have it both ways. 00:48:47.42\00:48:50.06 And so Jesus today is inviting you and I 00:48:50.09\00:48:52.63 wherever you might be, 00:48:52.66\00:48:54.00 Jesus is inviting you to worship Him 00:48:54.03\00:48:56.50 in spirit and in truth, 00:48:56.53\00:48:58.53 not to ask for 10% discount, as many Christians have. 00:48:58.57\00:49:03.30 Every commandment is okay, except for the one that begins 00:49:03.34\00:49:06.68 with the word Remember, I find that hard to understand. 00:49:06.71\00:49:10.05 Why would God ask us today to forget the commandment 00:49:10.08\00:49:13.75 that He said to remember? 00:49:13.78\00:49:16.25 Try that on your wife or on your husband. 00:49:16.28\00:49:20.96 Tell him that remember means to forget. 00:49:20.99\00:49:24.03 And to forget means to remember and see how well you do. 00:49:24.06\00:49:29.56 So the question is, what will it be for you? 00:49:29.60\00:49:34.34 What will it be for me? 00:49:34.37\00:49:36.20 What will be your foundation? 00:49:36.24\00:49:37.71 What will be my foundation, for my faith, for your faith? 00:49:37.74\00:49:42.58 Will it be what man says? 00:49:42.61\00:49:44.58 Or will it be what God says? 00:49:44.61\00:49:46.51 For me I want to have the attitude 00:49:46.55\00:49:51.89 and the testimony of the Apostle Peter 00:49:51.92\00:49:55.02 and the disciples. 00:49:55.06\00:49:56.39 Notice these words from Acts 5:29. 00:49:56.42\00:49:59.69 "But Peter and the other apostles 00:49:59.73\00:50:01.30 answered and said, 00:50:01.33\00:50:02.66 'We ought to obey," who? 00:50:02.70\00:50:04.70 "God rather than, who? 00:50:04.73\00:50:06.70 "Man." 00:50:06.74\00:50:08.87 I respect all people. 00:50:08.90\00:50:12.37 I respect all people, no matter what their differences may be, 00:50:12.41\00:50:17.31 to me and how I understand, 00:50:17.35\00:50:19.21 but when it comes to my loyalty 00:50:19.25\00:50:20.95 and allegiance, 00:50:20.98\00:50:22.58 when it comes to who I obey, 00:50:22.62\00:50:24.49 when it comes to who I follow. 00:50:24.52\00:50:29.29 I make it very clear, my loyalty today 00:50:29.32\00:50:33.73 and every day while God gives me breath 00:50:33.76\00:50:36.87 or until the Second Coming will be to the Bible 00:50:36.90\00:50:39.40 and the Bible alone. 00:50:39.43\00:50:40.77 Amen? 00:50:40.80\00:50:42.14 To Sola Scriptura, the Bible and the Bible alone. 00:50:42.17\00:50:44.94 And I pray that 00:50:44.97\00:50:46.31 that is where your loyalty will be. 00:50:46.34\00:50:47.68 Not with what man says, 00:50:47.71\00:50:49.14 but with what God says in His Word. 00:50:49.18\00:50:52.65 God's final end time message of love. 00:50:52.68\00:50:55.32 The Three Angels' Messages, we've looked at them 00:50:55.35\00:50:57.32 in the previous two presentations. 00:50:57.35\00:50:59.62 Thy herald this cry, 00:50:59.65\00:51:02.72 this call to the entire world 00:51:02.76\00:51:05.03 at the end of time 00:51:05.06\00:51:06.39 that we find in Revelation 14:7, 00:51:06.43\00:51:08.20 "Saying with a loud voice, 00:51:08.23\00:51:09.63 'Fear God and give glory to Him, 00:51:09.66\00:51:11.03 for the hour of His judgment has come, 00:51:11.07\00:51:12.63 and worship Him who made heaven and earth, 00:51:12.67\00:51:15.07 the sea and the springs of water.' 00:51:15.10\00:51:16.84 " Words as we have discovered, 00:51:16.87\00:51:18.54 directly out of God's Ten Commandments, 00:51:18.57\00:51:22.24 out of the fourth commandment, 00:51:22.28\00:51:23.61 directly from the creation account. 00:51:23.65\00:51:25.21 Will God have a people at the end of time 00:51:25.25\00:51:27.45 who worship Him who made heaven and earth? 00:51:27.48\00:51:29.82 Those who are loyal, those who obey, 00:51:29.85\00:51:32.55 those who love Him with all of their hearts. 00:51:32.59\00:51:34.76 Notice what we read in Revelation 14:12. 00:51:34.79\00:51:37.19 "Here is the patience of the saints, 00:51:37.23\00:51:39.46 here are those who keep the commandments of God 00:51:39.49\00:51:42.60 and the faith of Jesus." 00:51:42.63\00:51:43.97 Will God have a people who are loyal and love Him 00:51:44.00\00:51:46.84 with all their hearts at the end of time? 00:51:46.87\00:51:48.64 Indeed He will. 00:51:48.67\00:51:50.27 Indeed He will. 00:51:50.31\00:51:51.64 Will that be the majority? 00:51:51.67\00:51:53.48 Sadly, the answer is no. 00:51:53.51\00:51:55.91 I wish I could stand up here today 00:51:55.94\00:51:57.95 and say the answer is yes. 00:51:57.98\00:51:59.51 The majority will follow God and will be loyal to Him, 00:51:59.55\00:52:02.95 they will be loyal to His truth 00:52:02.98\00:52:04.52 rather than the traditions of man. 00:52:04.55\00:52:06.35 But sadly, the Book of Revelation tells us 00:52:06.39\00:52:09.42 that the majority at the end of time 00:52:09.46\00:52:13.36 will follow the traditions of man, 00:52:13.40\00:52:15.53 the lies of the enemy rather than the truths of God 00:52:15.56\00:52:19.43 and show their love towards God. 00:52:19.47\00:52:23.07 What do we find in Revelation 22:14? 00:54:04.37\00:54:08.68 He made a powerful speech. 00:54:08.71\00:54:11.01 I had the opportunity back in 2010 00:54:11.05\00:54:13.68 to go to the City of Worms there in Germany. 00:54:13.72\00:54:16.42 And I stood there at the very place. 00:54:16.45\00:54:20.66 There is a memorial there at the very place 00:54:20.69\00:54:22.86 where Martin Luther made his stand 00:54:22.89\00:54:24.86 and we'll take a look at those words 00:54:24.89\00:54:26.23 in just a moment. 00:54:26.26\00:54:28.23 Here I stand. 00:54:28.26\00:54:30.10 This is the place in 1521 when Martin Luther 00:54:30.13\00:54:34.74 made his stand where he sent shock waves 00:54:34.77\00:54:38.11 around the world through these words 00:54:38.14\00:54:40.38 that he added. 00:54:40.41\00:54:41.74 Notice the words from Martin Luther 00:54:41.78\00:54:44.75 as he was asked, "Will you recant? 00:54:44.78\00:54:47.85 Will you turn back?" 00:54:47.88\00:54:49.62 And these were his words, 00:54:49.65\00:54:51.82 "Unless I am convinced 00:54:51.85\00:54:53.19 by the testimony of the Scriptures 00:54:53.22\00:54:54.79 or by clear reason, 00:54:54.82\00:54:56.39 for I do not trust either in the pope 00:54:56.42\00:54:58.63 or in councils alone, 00:54:58.66\00:55:00.23 since it is well known that they have often erred 00:55:00.26\00:55:03.00 and contradicted themselves, I am bound by the Scriptures 00:55:03.03\00:55:06.80 I have quoted and my conscience 00:55:06.84\00:55:08.67 is captive to the Word of God. 00:55:08.70\00:55:10.54 I cannot and will not recant anything, 00:55:10.57\00:55:13.71 since it is neither safe nor right to go 00:55:13.74\00:55:16.31 against conscience." 00:55:16.34\00:55:17.68 And here are these famous words 00:55:17.71\00:55:19.25 that have echoed down through history 00:55:19.28\00:55:21.52 for the past half a millennia. 00:55:21.55\00:55:23.65 "Here I stand. 00:55:23.69\00:55:25.42 I can do no other. 00:55:25.45\00:55:27.06 May God help me. 00:55:27.09\00:55:28.69 Amen." 00:55:28.72\00:55:30.66 Powerful words from Martin Luther. 00:55:30.69\00:55:33.13 "Here I stand on God's Word and God's Word alone. 00:55:33.16\00:55:38.43 I can do no other." 00:55:38.47\00:55:41.70 God is calling you and I today. 00:55:41.74\00:55:44.21 Jesus is calling you and I today. 00:55:44.24\00:55:47.11 He's calling us to make a stand, 00:55:47.14\00:55:48.91 He's saying, "My dear friend, 00:55:48.94\00:55:51.75 wherever you may be on this planet, 00:55:51.78\00:55:53.85 I'm inviting you to make a stand. 00:55:53.88\00:55:56.15 Follow me. 00:55:56.18\00:55:57.55 Follow my ways. 00:55:57.59\00:55:59.69 Follow the plans that I have for you." 00:55:59.72\00:56:03.66 You may be thinking, 00:56:03.69\00:56:05.29 I've never heard this message before. 00:56:05.33\00:56:07.10 I had no idea. 00:56:07.13\00:56:09.26 What am I supposed to do?
