Like when you're in a fox hole
and folks are shooting at you,

you have to take a test,

All of a sudden, I
called up on the name of God

up and I went to my mother

at me in her godly way says,

She said that
devil is after you.

Have mercy.

You know, over the years
I have learned something,

I've learned that
there is a true statement

that was written in a book
called "Great Controversy,"

and it says this,

"There is nothing
00:14:36.30\00:14:38.31
that the great
deceiver fears so much
00:14:38.34\00:14:42.58
as that we shall become
acquainted with his devices."

Satan is afraid of the fact

that we shall
pull back the covers

and find out
that really it is him

who is whispering in our ears.

It is really him

who is causing us the
trouble and turmoil in our life.

than anything else.

The title of
this morning's message

is called Drapetomania.

Drapetomania.

Now, have you ever heard

of a mental illness
called drapetomania?

Well, it was prominent
00:15:15.11\00:15:16.64
and quite
prevalent back in the 1800s.

But if you would have checked
your diagnostic manual today,
00:15:20.12\00:15:23.25
you would not find
drapetomania in there anymore.
00:15:23.28\00:15:26.76
Right?

But that winter was
considered to be very, very
00:15:28.16\00:15:29.89
severe condition
and a serious condition.

What drapetomania was this?

It was an official psychiatric
diagnosis of mental illness

that was
described by an epidemic
00:15:43.67\00:15:47.21
in African Americans,
only African Americans.

Drapetomania was the condition
00:15:53.65\00:15:58.19
that black slaves
wanted to be free.

And so if you are a
black slave on a plantation

and you wanted to be free,
00:16:08.40\00:16:09.76
if you had a
compulsion to be free,

then you were
considered to be mentally ill.

You were a drapetomaniac.

we find a story of a
man desiring to be free,

a drapetomaniac.

Mark 5, I'm
beginning with verse one.

And the Bible says this,

"And they came over to
the other side of the sea

into the country
of the Gerasenes.

And when He, Jesus,
was coming out of the ship,

immediately, they met
Him a man out of the tombs

which had an unclean spirit."

Jesus has just crossed
over to see that night.

And you'll remember

Jesus got into the boat.

Satan whipped up a
storm of satanic fury.

book Ellen White says

that there was a
storm that Satan whipped up

and he designed
that storm to kill Jesus.

The disciples were panicking
as water coming into the boat.

And all of a
sudden in the midst of

that demonic satanic storm,

Jesus,

who is the Sovereign
King of the universe--

Jesus now comes over to
