00:12:57.17\00:13:00.71 Morning by morning new mercies I see, 00:13:00.74\00:13:05.58 all I have ever needed thy hands hath provided, 00:13:05.61\00:13:10.79 great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!" 00:13:10.82\00:13:15.96 I remember, in 1981, I drove from Oakwood College 00:13:15.99\00:13:19.86 now Oakwood University, in Huntsville, Alabama 00:13:19.89\00:13:23.67 to New Orleans, Louisiana, where my brother lived 00:13:23.70\00:13:26.80 at the time in my 1975 Chevy Caprice, 00:13:26.84\00:13:31.41 with this song playing on my ATRAC. 00:13:31.44\00:13:35.24 I played this song for eight continuous hours. 00:13:35.28\00:13:39.38 I just had it on replay. 00:13:39.41\00:13:41.75 That song was very meaningful to me on that day. 00:13:41.78\00:13:45.35 And as the days and the years have gone by, 00:13:45.39\00:13:48.72 that song with its divinely inspired words, 00:13:48.76\00:13:52.09 have been the theme of my life. 00:13:52.13\00:13:54.13 I know that God has been faithful. 00:13:54.16\00:13:58.93 And for those of you who are students of scripture, 00:13:58.97\00:14:02.47 you wouldn't know that Thomas Obadiah Chisholm's poem 00:14:02.50\00:14:05.37 is in fact a poetic rendering of a scripture, 00:14:05.41\00:14:09.74 written by the great prophet Jeremiah, 00:14:09.78\00:14:12.38 and found in the Book of Lamentations 3:22, 00:14:12.41\00:14:17.99 "It is of the Lord's mercies, that we are not consumed, 00:14:18.02\00:14:23.43 because his compassions fail not. 00:14:23.46\00:14:27.20 They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness. 00:14:27.23\00:14:31.63 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, 00:14:31.67\00:14:35.17 therefore I will hope in him." 00:14:35.20\00:14:37.87 Now this idea, my brothers and sisters, 00:14:37.91\00:14:40.28 that the God we serve is a faithful God, 00:14:40.31\00:14:43.08 is at the very foundation of the Christian faith. 00:14:43.11\00:14:46.45 All of our hope in this world, and all of our hope 00:14:46.48\00:14:49.95 for the world to come, is undergirded 00:14:49.98\00:14:52.45 by this idea that God is faithful. 00:14:52.49\00:14:56.46 And when we say that God is faithful, 00:14:56.49\00:14:58.76 basically what we are saying is that God does what God says. 00:14:58.79\00:15:03.87 In other words, whatever God says 00:15:03.90\00:15:05.73 He's going to do, He surely does it. 00:15:05.77\00:15:09.40 When we say God is faithful, we are saying in effect, 00:15:09.44\00:15:13.68 that God sustains whatever He creates. 00:15:13.71\00:15:17.38 When we say God is faithful, we are saying that God finishes 00:15:17.41\00:15:22.42 whatever He starts. 00:15:22.45\00:15:24.75 Look at me at the implicit contrast, 00:15:24.79\00:15:27.22 the text says "Great is his faithfulness." 00:15:27.26\00:15:31.43 Now we really can't say that about ourselves 00:15:31.46\00:15:34.60 because we do not always do what we say. 00:15:34.63\00:15:37.80 And we do not always sustain what we create. 00:15:37.83\00:15:41.30 That's why our courts are filled with women 00:15:41.34\00:15:43.57 trying to get child support for children that we created. 00:15:43.61\00:15:48.38 They are not sustained. 00:15:48.41\00:15:50.45 Oh, we can create, but we don't always sustain what we create. 00:15:50.48\00:15:56.18 And we do not finish what we start. 00:15:56.22\00:15:59.15 That's why there's so much divorce in this world today. 00:15:59.19\00:16:02.19 We don't finish what we start. 00:16:02.22\00:16:04.93 That's why we have so many high school, 00:16:04.96\00:16:07.10 college and university dropouts. 00:16:07.13\00:16:09.33 We don't finish what we start. 00:16:09.36\00:16:12.73 That's why we have so many backsliders. 00:16:12.77\00:16:15.17 We don't finish what we start. 00:16:15.20\00:16:17.21 That's why we have so many delinquent church offices. 00:16:17.24\00:16:19.94 We don't finish what we start. 00:16:19.97\00:16:22.61 And that's the truth about me and that's the truth about you. 00:16:22.64\00:16:26.15 We don't finish what we start. 00:16:26.18\00:16:29.18 But when it comes to God, Hallelujah, God is faithful. 00:16:29.22\00:16:34.59 God is dependable. God is reliable. 00:16:34.62\00:16:39.76 God does what He says. 00:16:39.79\00:16:42.96 And God sustains what He creates. 00:16:43.00\00:16:46.50 And God always finishes whatever He stars. 00:16:46.53\00:16:52.07 Thumb through the pages of scripture from the first Amen 00:16:52.11\00:16:54.74 in Genesis to the last Hallelujah in Revelation. 00:16:54.78\00:16:58.38 And you will find this theme woven 00:16:58.41\00:17:00.18 through the pages of Holy Writ that God is faithful. 00:17:00.22\00:17:04.52 It is the dominant note of the Psalms. 00:17:04.55\00:17:06.96 And the underlying assumption behind everything 00:17:06.99\00:17:09.12 Jesus taught is this, that God is faithful. 00:17:09.16\00:17:13.46 It is the conviction of all the prophets in the Bible, 00:17:13.50\00:17:16.13 God is faithful. 00:17:16.16\00:17:18.83 Whenever the prophets prophesied, 00:17:18.87\00:17:21.20 they were really saying, you can depend on my prophecy, 00:17:21.24\00:17:23.84 not because of me, but because God is faithful. 00:17:23.87\00:17:27.44 Consider with me just a few textual testimonies. 00:17:27.48\00:17:31.11 Exodus 34:6, the writer says, 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.78 "And the Lord passed by before him, 00:17:33.82\00:17:36.75 and proclaimed, The Lord God, 00:17:36.79\00:17:39.45 merciful and gracious, longsuffering, 00:17:39.49\00:17:42.32 and abundant in goodness and truth." 00:17:42.36\00:17:45.49 Deuteronomy 7:9, "Know therefore 00:17:45.53\00:17:49.13 that the Lord thy God, He is God, 00:17:49.16\00:17:51.73 and He is the faithful God, which keepeth covenant 00:17:51.77\00:17:54.97 and mercy with them that love Him 00:17:55.00\00:17:57.11 and keep His commandments to a thousand generations." 00:17:57.14\00:18:00.68 He is faithful. And He keeps His word. 00:18:00.71\00:18:03.65 Consider what the New Testament says in I Thessalonians 5:24 00:18:03.68\00:18:08.28 "Faithful is he that calleth you, 00:18:08.32\00:18:10.69 who also will do it." 00:18:10.72\00:18:12.95 Consider Hebrews 10:23, "Let us hold fast 00:18:12.99\00:18:16.22 the profession of our faith without wavering, 00:18:16.26\00:18:19.13 (for he is faithful that promised;)" 00:18:19.16\00:18:22.86 And ladies and gentlemen, as Joshua, 00:18:22.90\00:18:24.83 as he summarizes the whole Exodus event, 00:18:24.87\00:18:28.50 and the wanderings of the children of Israel 00:18:28.54\00:18:30.94 through the wilderness, and the crossing 00:18:30.97\00:18:32.41 of the Jordan in to the land of Canaan. 00:18:32.44\00:18:35.18 As he looked over at Israel, 00:18:35.21\00:18:37.35 as they are now settled in Canaan. 00:18:37.38\00:18:39.95 And remembered from whence they came. 00:18:39.98\00:18:42.45 And now they've got houses they didn't build. 00:18:42.48\00:18:45.22 And they've got vineyards they didn't plant. 00:18:45.25\00:18:47.59 And they have wells they didn't dig. 00:18:47.62\00:18:49.96 Joshua looked back over this divine landscape 00:18:49.99\00:18:53.19 and gave a summary of why they were so blessed. 00:18:53.23\00:18:56.40 And so he says in Joshua 21:43, "And the Lord gave unto Israel 00:18:56.43\00:19:02.34 all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers, 00:19:02.37\00:19:05.67 and they possessed it, and dwelt therein." 00:19:05.71\00:19:08.94 What he was saying was that God had promised 00:19:08.98\00:19:11.85 their father Abraham, a thousand years earlier, 00:19:11.88\00:19:15.12 that Israel was gonna live in the land, 00:19:15.15\00:19:17.65 and here they are. 00:19:17.69\00:19:19.39 God doing just what He said He was going to do. 00:19:19.42\00:19:23.86 Look at verse 44, "And the Lord gave them 00:19:23.89\00:19:26.80 rest about, according to all that 00:19:26.83\00:19:29.16 he sware unto their fathers, and there stood not a man 00:19:29.20\00:19:32.67 of all their enemies before them, 00:19:32.70\00:19:34.87 the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand." 00:19:34.90\00:19:39.41 Their enemies couldn't get to them. 00:19:39.44\00:19:41.78 He told their fathers, 00:19:41.81\00:19:43.14 I'm gonna keep the enemies away. 00:19:43.18\00:19:44.51 And Joshua looked up and said, look at this, 00:19:44.55\00:19:47.35 everything God said was going to happen, happened. 00:19:47.38\00:19:51.22 As a matter of fact, ladies and gentlemen, 00:19:51.25\00:19:52.62 we need to be very careful that we decide 00:19:52.65\00:19:55.12 to take our enemies into our own hands. 00:19:55.16\00:19:57.63 God said that He would make our enemies our footstool. 00:19:57.66\00:20:01.46 And do you know what a footstool is? 00:20:01.50\00:20:03.26 A footstool is used to take you higher. 00:20:03.30\00:20:07.14 We use footstools to take us higher. 00:20:07.17\00:20:10.57 And God says He will use our enemies to take us higher. 00:20:10.61\00:20:16.81 And verse 45 said, "There failed not ought 00:20:16.85\00:20:21.42 of any good thing which the Lord had spoken 00:20:21.45\00:20:24.52 unto the house of Israel, all came to pass." 00:20:24.55\00:20:28.82 Everything God said He was gonna do, 00:20:28.86\00:20:31.16 came to pass, because God is faithful. 00:20:31.19\00:20:36.00 And that's why Paul writes in II Corinthians 1:20, 00:20:36.03\00:20:40.84 "For all the promises of God in him are yea, 00:20:40.87\00:20:43.87 and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us." 00:20:43.91\00:20:47.88 Now that might not make sense to you until you stop to think 00:20:47.91\00:20:50.65 about what Amen means. 00:20:50.68\00:20:52.75 We use the word Amen rather loosely in church. 00:20:52.78\00:20:56.02 We just, kind of, throw it around very liberally. 00:20:56.05\00:20:58.99 And it's a non thinking response. 00:20:59.02\00:21:01.22 But the world Amen has power in it. 00:21:01.26\00:21:04.23 It literally means, so let it be. 00:21:04.26\00:21:07.66 To be said about something that God said. 00:21:07.70\00:21:11.23 And that is why you shouldn't say Amen to everything. 00:21:11.27\00:21:13.64 Because some things you're not certain about. 00:21:13.67\00:21:16.81 But you can say Amen today, because God is faithful. 00:21:16.84\00:21:23.38 I want you to know, ladies and gentlemen, 00:21:23.41\00:21:25.48 if you are not sure whether or not to say Amen 00:21:25.51\00:21:27.55 because you think that some promises are not yet fulfilled. 00:21:27.58\00:21:30.19 I suggest on the authority of exegetical consistency, 00:21:30.22\00:21:33.49 that if God has come through in the past, 00:21:33.52\00:21:36.16 He will do it again. 00:21:36.19\00:21:38.56 Notice the text tells us, 00:21:38.59\00:21:40.16 "For all the promises of God are yea." 00:21:40.20\00:21:43.43 In other words, it's going to happen. 00:21:43.47\00:21:46.74 I am certain that everything God said is going to happen 00:21:46.77\00:21:51.21 because of the faithfulness of God. 00:21:51.24\00:21:55.14 Now this text shows us three specific things to look at. 00:21:55.18\00:21:59.71 Number one, creation. 00:21:59.75\00:22:01.85 Let's hear the text again, "It is of the Lord's mercies 00:22:01.88\00:22:05.02 that we are not consumed, 00:22:05.05\00:22:06.55 because His compassions fail not. 00:22:06.59\00:22:09.02 There are new every morning." 00:22:09.06\00:22:10.83 The text says that His mercies are new every morning. 00:22:10.86\00:22:15.36 The song says, morning by morning, 00:22:15.40\00:22:18.13 new mercies I see. 00:22:18.17\00:22:20.14 Morning by morning has to do with nights and days. 00:22:20.17\00:22:24.11 Nights and days are a part of the weekly cycle. 00:22:24.14\00:22:26.68 The weekly cycle is a part of God's creation. 00:22:26.71\00:22:29.48 Now if you just spun the creation, 00:22:29.51\00:22:31.95 you can see the faithfulness of God. 00:22:31.98\00:22:34.85 Have you ever thought about how dependable creation is? 00:22:34.88\00:22:38.62 What God creates, He sustains. 00:22:38.65\00:22:41.76 Just think about it. 00:22:41.79\00:22:43.22 On January the first, the earth will be 00:22:43.26\00:22:45.09 in a certain position in relationship to the sun. 00:22:45.13\00:22:48.50 Three hundred sixty five days later, 00:22:48.53\00:22:50.53 the earth will come back to the very place it was 00:22:50.57\00:22:52.87 three hundred sixty five days earlier. 00:22:52.90\00:22:55.44 And it is only because of the mathematical dependability 00:22:55.47\00:22:59.01 of this happening that you and I can have a calendar. 00:22:59.04\00:23:02.48 Because you break your calendar up into months, 00:23:02.51\00:23:04.98 365 days based on the earth, coming back to its 00:23:05.01\00:23:08.08 original point as it revolves around the sun. 00:23:08.12\00:23:12.15 Ladies and gentleman, you and I know, 00:23:12.19\00:23:14.59 and we're gonna testify about God's goodness. 00:23:14.62\00:23:17.43 See, I know and you know that January and December, 00:23:17.46\00:23:21.00 and the seasons are given to us and are reminded, 00:23:21.03\00:23:24.50 it's a reminder that God created. 00:23:24.53\00:23:27.40 I know how to dress in February. 00:23:27.44\00:23:29.60 And I know how to dress in July. 00:23:29.64\00:23:31.34 Because God governs the weather, it's dependable. 00:23:31.37\00:23:34.91 I already know that somewhere around March, 00:23:34.94\00:23:38.11 the twelfth... the second, 00:23:38.15\00:23:39.61 we're gonna experience what is called Spring Equinox, 00:23:39.65\00:23:42.68 which means you have an equal day and night, 00:23:42.72\00:23:44.62 on that one day. 00:23:44.65\00:23:46.05 And the folk who studied the seasons and weather 00:23:46.09\00:23:48.56 already told us that on September 22, 00:23:48.59\00:23:51.89 we're gonna have Fall Equinox, which means that on that day 00:23:51.93\00:23:55.16 there will be as much daylight as there is night time. 00:23:55.20\00:23:58.03 They already know it's gonna happen, 00:23:58.07\00:24:00.00 and that is because of the dependability of nature, 00:24:00.04\00:24:03.64 because God is faithful in nature. 00:24:03.67\00:24:07.21 And it's been happening every year, 00:24:07.24\00:24:09.51 there has not been one year that spring didn't show up. 00:24:09.54\00:24:13.21 Not one year that summer didn't come. 00:24:13.25\00:24:15.88 Now there have been years 00:24:15.92\00:24:17.25 when some of us hadn't shown up in church. 00:24:17.29\00:24:19.39 But there has not been one year that summer did not come. 00:24:19.42\00:24:23.73 God never forgets to send the springtime. 00:24:23.76\00:24:27.20 God never had to write an apology saying, 00:24:27.23\00:24:29.66 "My bad. I forgot to send spring." 00:24:29.70\00:24:32.33 Because everything God starts, God finishes. 00:24:32.37\00:24:36.50 And everything God creates, He sustains. 00:24:36.54\00:24:40.18 Every day of your life, 00:24:40.21\00:24:42.74 the sun has risen in the east and set in the West. 00:24:42.78\00:24:45.78 And do you know why? Because God is faithful. 00:24:45.81\00:24:50.52 The sun is in certain proximity to the earth. 00:24:50.55\00:24:54.76 If it moves just one inch away from the earth, we'll freeze. 00:24:54.79\00:24:58.49 If it moves one inch closer to the earth, we'll all burn up. 00:24:58.53\00:25:02.16 Guess what? 00:25:02.20\00:25:03.53 The sun has not moved one inch from the day that God said 00:25:03.57\00:25:06.87 "Let there be light." 00:25:06.90\00:25:08.40 Because God stuck it there. And God holds it there. 00:25:08.44\00:25:12.01 Because God is faithful. 00:25:12.04\00:25:14.61 And you may worry about some stuff. 00:25:14.64\00:25:16.88 But none of us have ever had a maalox moment 00:25:16.91\00:25:19.48 wondering if the sun is gonna rise in the east, 00:25:19.51\00:25:22.32 because of the faithfulness of God. 00:25:22.35\00:25:25.25 If the sun broke down and if gravity failed, 00:25:25.29\00:25:27.02 who's gonna fix it? 00:25:27.06\00:25:28.39 NASA? Or the government? 00:25:28.42\00:25:30.79 They can barely fix the economy. 00:25:30.83\00:25:32.33 They can barely handle crime. 00:25:32.36\00:25:34.00 How in the world they're gonna fix the sun and the moon? 00:25:34.03\00:25:36.56 But they don't have to fix it, 00:25:36.60\00:25:38.60 because of the faithfulness of God. 00:25:38.63\00:25:42.17 Consider God's faithfulness, 00:25:42.20\00:25:44.77 every time you heat up water to 212 degrees. 00:25:44.81\00:25:48.64 Every time you do it, it starts boiling. 00:25:48.68\00:25:52.85 God says, "I'm gonna be faithful to 212 degrees. 00:25:52.88\00:25:57.12 And when you heat it up to 212 degrees, 00:25:57.15\00:25:59.45 I will make it boil." 00:25:59.49\00:26:01.56 Every time you have a cup of decaf, 00:26:01.59\00:26:04.63 you can praise God, 00:26:04.66\00:26:06.26 because it's a sign of divine faithfulness. 00:26:06.29\00:26:10.17 Every time you cool down water to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 00:26:10.20\00:26:14.64 God says, "I'm gonna make it turn it to ice." 00:26:14.67\00:26:17.11 And every time you drop some ice cubes in your ginger ale, 00:26:17.14\00:26:20.21 you should stop and say thank you, Lord. 00:26:20.24\00:26:23.08 Have you ever thought, my brothers and sisters, 00:26:23.11\00:26:25.75 that they are seven times more water than there is land? 00:26:25.78\00:26:29.72 Water should just envelop the land. 00:26:29.75\00:26:32.29 Water should just cover all the land mass, but it doesn't. 00:26:32.32\00:26:35.79 And the reason why it doesn't is because 00:26:35.82\00:26:38.83 when God created the earth and the moon, 00:26:38.86\00:26:40.83 He created spinning objects that create 00:26:40.86\00:26:43.00 such centrifugal force, so that it creates levees. 00:26:43.03\00:26:46.94 And these levees protect the earth. 00:26:46.97\00:26:50.17 Men have made levees. 00:26:50.21\00:26:52.07 But the levees that men have built in New Orleans, 00:26:52.11\00:26:54.91 they have failed. 00:26:54.94\00:26:56.54 But the levee that God made, God put a levee in the sky, 00:26:56.58\00:27:00.22 and said to the water, come only so far, 00:27:00.25\00:27:02.42 because of the faithfulness of God. 00:27:02.45\00:27:04.92 In fact, when you read the God story in the Bible, 00:27:04.95\00:27:08.32 have you noticed that the Bible never tries to prove 00:27:08.36\00:27:10.49 that there is a God? 00:27:10.53\00:27:11.99 It never gives you an argument for God's existence. 00:27:12.03\00:27:15.93 The Bible simply assumes that if you have any sense 00:27:15.96\00:27:20.10 that you would know that there is a God. 00:27:20.14\00:27:23.74 The Bible opens up, not in defense of God. 00:27:23.77\00:27:26.88 But it opens up this way, "In the beginning, God..." 00:27:26.91\00:27:31.01 it doesn't argue for God. 00:27:31.05\00:27:33.15 It just assumes there is a God. 00:27:33.18\00:27:35.95 Because Psalm 19 says 00:27:35.98\00:27:37.65 "The heavens declare the glory of God, 00:27:37.69\00:27:40.39 and the firmament showeth his handiwork." 00:27:40.42\00:27:43.73 All you have to do is look around you and say, 00:27:43.76\00:27:47.03 you know what? 00:27:47.06\00:27:48.40 Who made the rivers? Who made the trees? 00:27:48.43\00:27:51.83 Who made the rivers that flow to the seas? 00:27:51.87\00:27:54.60 And who hung the moon in the starry sky? 00:27:54.64\00:27:58.41 Somebody bigger than you and I. 00:27:58.44\00:28:02.08 That is why Paul says in Romans 1:20, 00:28:02.11\00:28:05.05 "For since the creation of the world, 00:28:05.08\00:28:07.25 my invisible attributes, my eternal power 00:28:07.28\00:28:10.95 and divine nature had been clearly seen, 00:28:10.99\00:28:13.96 because they are understood through what has been made." 00:28:13.99\00:28:19.23 I don't have to prove the faithfulness 00:28:19.26\00:28:20.70 of God just by creation. 00:28:20.73\00:28:22.80 I can prove this thing secondly, by contemplation. 00:28:22.83\00:28:26.74 Let's hear the text again, 00:28:26.77\00:28:28.14 "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, 00:28:28.17\00:28:32.01 because his compassions fail not. 00:28:32.04\00:28:34.74 They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness." 00:28:34.78\00:28:38.61 Notice the text says when my soul decides to tell the truth, 00:28:38.65\00:28:42.58 it will testify that it is of the Lord's mercies that 00:28:42.62\00:28:46.69 we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. 00:28:46.72\00:28:51.49 If you just stop and think about it. 00:28:51.53\00:28:54.70 You can see the faithfulness of God all around you. 00:28:54.73\00:28:58.67 If you just stop to contemplate from whence you have come, 00:28:58.70\00:29:03.84 where you started from and where you are right now. 00:29:03.87\00:29:07.64 Then if you have any sense, you should be saying 00:29:07.68\00:29:11.65 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:29:11.68\00:29:14.82 Don't think you have made yourself 00:29:14.85\00:29:16.45 for because you're so proficient. 00:29:16.48\00:29:19.29 It had nothing to do with your ingenuity. 00:29:19.32\00:29:21.72 It had to do with the faithfulness of God. 00:29:21.76\00:29:24.56 God's been faithful to us. 00:29:24.59\00:29:27.16 God has brought every last one of us from a mighty long way. 00:29:27.20\00:29:32.43 Some of us just forgot how messed up we were 00:29:32.47\00:29:35.17 and God overrode our foolishness, 00:29:35.20\00:29:37.64 and blessed us anyhow. 00:29:37.67\00:29:39.47 He's been faithful. 00:29:39.51\00:29:41.11 That is why every time you think about 00:29:41.14\00:29:42.64 what has been affected in your life, 00:29:42.68\00:29:45.15 you ought to say, "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:29:45.18\00:29:49.38 If your child gets married, you should be saying, 00:29:49.42\00:29:52.29 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:29:52.32\00:29:55.09 When your children graduate, you should be saying, 00:29:55.12\00:29:57.79 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:29:57.83\00:30:00.60 If you've got a little sanity in your mind right now 00:30:00.63\00:30:03.50 and you know your address 00:30:03.53\00:30:04.90 and your social security number, 00:30:04.93\00:30:06.70 you should be saying, "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:06.74\00:30:10.61 If you've got in a job in an economy like this 00:30:10.64\00:30:13.38 and a place to call your own, you should be shouting, 00:30:13.41\00:30:17.05 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:17.08\00:30:20.38 If God blessed you, so you can employ someone else, 00:30:20.42\00:30:24.29 you should be saying, "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:24.32\00:30:28.32 If you've got a car, or a little hoop jeep 00:30:28.36\00:30:31.33 and it takes you from point A to Point B, 00:30:31.36\00:30:34.03 you should be saying, "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:34.06\00:30:37.60 If you woke up this morning and you're able to put 00:30:37.63\00:30:40.04 one foot in front of the other, you should be shouting, 00:30:40.07\00:30:43.37 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:43.41\00:30:46.31 Every time you think about how your kids are doing 00:30:46.34\00:30:49.18 and what they could be doing, you should be shouting, 00:30:49.21\00:30:51.95 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:51.98\00:30:54.85 Anytime you get a promotion, you should be declaring, 00:30:54.88\00:30:58.25 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:30:58.29\00:31:00.86 Every time a bill comes to your house 00:31:00.89\00:31:03.12 and you're able to pay it, you should be shouting, 00:31:03.16\00:31:05.83 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:31:05.86\00:31:08.53 Every time you go to the doctor and the doctor says 00:31:08.56\00:31:11.17 "You're doing all right," you ought to shout, 00:31:11.20\00:31:13.34 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:31:13.37\00:31:17.97 Every time you make a sale, every time you seal a deal, 00:31:18.01\00:31:21.94 every time you get a loan, every time you meet payroll, 00:31:21.98\00:31:24.41 you ought to just be shouting, "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:31:24.45\00:31:27.92 Food on your table, clothes on your back, 00:31:27.95\00:31:30.72 God's been good, you ought to say, 00:31:30.75\00:31:34.32 "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:31:34.36\00:31:37.19 But you know many of us, my brothers and sisters, 00:31:37.23\00:31:40.13 we are not grateful, because we are delusional. 00:31:40.16\00:31:45.13 We think we did it. 00:31:45.17\00:31:47.27 Well, while we try to take credit for ourselves, 00:31:47.30\00:31:50.24 while we forget to sing "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:31:50.27\00:31:54.61 The angels are singing all around us, 00:31:54.64\00:31:56.78 "Great is thy foolishness." 00:31:56.81\00:32:00.32 Because if we contrast ourselves with God, 00:32:00.35\00:32:03.45 God is characterized by faithfulness. 00:32:03.49\00:32:07.52 And you and I have been 00:32:07.56\00:32:08.89 characterized by our foolishness. 00:32:08.92\00:32:11.79 Many people say, 00:32:11.83\00:32:13.16 "Well, God hasn't done anything for me, 00:32:13.19\00:32:14.53 look at my situation." 00:32:14.56\00:32:16.23 Oh, it's not that God hasn't been faithful to you. 00:32:16.26\00:32:19.63 Most of the problems we have in our lives, 00:32:19.67\00:32:22.24 we can trace right back to the lack of God's faithfulness, 00:32:22.27\00:32:27.24 not to the lack of God's faithfulness, 00:32:27.28\00:32:29.64 but to some of our foolishness. 00:32:29.68\00:32:33.08 Come on, talk to me. 00:32:33.11\00:32:34.48 Don't act like you haven't been foolish. 00:32:34.52\00:32:38.65 Amen, somebody. I have a book in my library. 00:32:38.69\00:32:42.49 And the title of the book is 00:32:42.52\00:32:43.86 "How come every time I get stabbed in the back, 00:32:43.89\00:32:45.99 my fingerprints are on the knife." 00:32:46.03\00:32:49.56 It's our choices. 00:32:49.60\00:32:51.83 You are the one who made the telephone call. 00:32:51.87\00:32:56.30 And now your life is a mess. 00:32:56.34\00:33:00.21 You are the one that invited him over, 00:33:00.24\00:33:01.78 now you have cursed the day you met him. 00:33:01.81\00:33:04.71 You are the one who allowed your emotions to become 00:33:04.75\00:33:06.61 entangled with someone you know 00:33:06.65\00:33:08.15 you should not have fallen in love with. 00:33:08.18\00:33:10.89 God's been faithful but we've been foolish. 00:33:10.92\00:33:15.52 Oh, it's not God. 00:33:15.56\00:33:17.39 He's been faithful while we've played the fool. 00:33:17.43\00:33:21.90 You are the one that abused your body 00:33:21.93\00:33:23.63 and now everything is out of whack. 00:33:23.67\00:33:25.80 And you're blaming God. 00:33:25.83\00:33:27.90 God's been faithful while you've been foolish. 00:33:27.94\00:33:33.27 We've been our own worst enemies. 00:33:33.31\00:33:36.01 But even though we have messed up, 00:33:36.04\00:33:37.75 God is so faithful. 00:33:37.78\00:33:39.18 He has not allowed us to be 00:33:39.21\00:33:41.32 completely destroyed by our stupidity. 00:33:41.35\00:33:43.69 God has intervened. And He has blessed us. 00:33:43.72\00:33:47.29 And saved us from our own self's. 00:33:47.32\00:33:49.76 In other words, God's been faithful 00:33:49.79\00:33:52.79 while we've been foolish. 00:33:52.83\00:33:55.16 And you contemplate it, God's been faithful. 00:33:55.20\00:33:58.30 There's a song that has blessed me over the years. 00:33:58.33\00:34:01.20 And here are the words of the song, 00:34:01.24\00:34:03.17 "How many times must I prove how much I love you. 00:34:03.20\00:34:07.38 How many ways my love for you, I show. 00:34:07.41\00:34:10.35 How many times must I rescue you from trouble, 00:34:10.38\00:34:13.88 for you to know just how much I love you?" 00:34:13.92\00:34:17.15 Then in the chorus, God says 00:34:17.19\00:34:18.75 "Woke you up this morning, clothed you in your right mind. 00:34:18.79\00:34:21.62 When you walked upon a problem, didn't I step right in on time? 00:34:21.66\00:34:24.93 Strength, along life's journey. My angels carried you. 00:34:24.96\00:34:28.93 So you would know just how much I love you." 00:34:28.96\00:34:32.60 Then God continues to talk to us in that song. 00:34:32.63\00:34:35.27 He says "Food on your table. 00:34:35.30\00:34:37.04 Showed up when the bills would do. 00:34:37.07\00:34:39.11 When the pain was wrecking your body, 00:34:39.14\00:34:41.61 send down healing to you. 00:34:41.64\00:34:43.55 Lost in sin and sorrow, I died to set you free. 00:34:43.58\00:34:48.38 So you would know just how much I love you." 00:34:48.42\00:34:53.66 Finally, we see a confrontation. 00:34:53.69\00:34:58.19 God is not only faithful in creation and in contemplation. 00:34:58.23\00:35:03.23 But He's also faithful when there's a confrontation. 00:35:03.26\00:35:06.30 The only reason why real Christians 00:35:06.33\00:35:08.90 don't lose their minds, when crises come, 00:35:08.94\00:35:12.14 is because of God. 00:35:12.17\00:35:14.54 You see when Jeremiah said "Great is thy faithfulness." 00:35:14.58\00:35:18.25 It was during a crisis. 00:35:18.28\00:35:20.55 This is the book of Lamentations. 00:35:20.58\00:35:22.92 And Lamentation means weep. 00:35:22.95\00:35:25.79 Jeremiah's world had fallen apart 00:35:25.82\00:35:28.79 and he had experienced a tsunami of grief. 00:35:28.82\00:35:32.39 The Babylonians had come and destroyed Jerusalem. 00:35:32.43\00:35:35.76 And destroyed Jerusalem 00:35:35.80\00:35:37.53 and brought Jerusalem to ashes and rubble. 00:35:37.57\00:35:40.24 And there was nothing left. 00:35:40.27\00:35:42.10 I don't know if you've ever been in a situation 00:35:42.14\00:35:44.81 where you had nothing left, everything was gone. 00:35:44.84\00:35:49.54 And in the midst of not having anything, 00:35:49.58\00:35:52.88 Jeremiah stood up and said, "It is by thy mercies, 00:35:52.91\00:35:57.92 we are not consumed. 00:35:57.95\00:36:00.26 Great is thy faithfulness." 00:36:00.29\00:36:03.39 Which is to say, my brothers and sisters, 00:36:03.43\00:36:06.33 anybody can sing it, when you've got a job. 00:36:06.36\00:36:11.10 But if you're like Jeremiah, you learn to sing 00:36:11.13\00:36:14.40 when you just lost your job. 00:36:14.44\00:36:17.01 And you learn to sing, when you don't know 00:36:17.04\00:36:19.24 how you're gonna pay your bills. 00:36:19.27\00:36:21.11 And you learn to sing, 00:36:21.14\00:36:22.61 when you cry yourself to sleep at nights. 00:36:22.64\00:36:25.05 And you'll learn to sing, when everything 00:36:25.08\00:36:27.35 and everyone seems against you. 00:36:27.38\00:36:29.45 You'll learn to sing while everything is against you. 00:36:29.48\00:36:35.52 Because anybody can shout, when you've got good health. 00:36:35.56\00:36:40.46 Jeremiah is saying "Great is thy faithfulness," 00:36:40.50\00:36:45.73 with chemo and lymph nodes all over your body. 00:36:45.77\00:36:49.87 The reason you can hope, 00:36:49.90\00:36:51.71 is not because of the party in power. 00:36:51.74\00:36:54.71 The reason you can hope 00:36:54.74\00:36:56.44 is not because your friends are in power. 00:36:56.48\00:36:59.25 My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood, 00:36:59.28\00:37:04.19 and righteousness. 00:37:04.22\00:37:05.55 I dare not trust the sweetest frame, 00:37:05.59\00:37:07.86 but a Holier lean on Jesus' name. 00:37:07.89\00:37:11.26 On Christ, the solid rock, I stand. 00:37:11.29\00:37:14.73 All other ground is sinking sand. 00:37:14.76\00:37:17.73 All other ground is sinking sand. 00:37:17.77\00:37:20.34 My hope is not in humanity. 00:37:20.37\00:37:22.84 Faltering and the failing human beings. 00:37:22.87\00:37:26.04 My hope is built on nothing less than Christ our Lord. 00:37:26.07\00:37:30.98 On Christ, not you. 00:37:31.01\00:37:34.32 Human beings are too funny and fickle. 00:37:34.35\00:37:37.12 But on Christ, the solid rock, I stand. 00:37:37.15\00:37:40.86 Christ is faithful to take care of you. 00:37:40.89\00:37:44.59 And notice what he says, "Every morning, new mercies, 00:37:44.63\00:37:49.50 he's gonna bring into your life." 00:37:49.53\00:37:51.73 What he is talking about, 00:37:51.77\00:37:53.10 is when the children of Israel were in the wilderness. 00:37:53.13\00:37:56.07 And they didn't know what they were gonna eat 00:37:56.10\00:37:57.51 and they didn't know how they were gonna survive. 00:37:57.54\00:38:00.81 And we're told that they complained to God. 00:38:00.84\00:38:02.74 And God said to Moses, 00:38:02.78\00:38:04.15 "Moses, tell them in the morning. 00:38:04.18\00:38:07.42 Just go to bed tonight. And in the morning. 00:38:07.45\00:38:11.89 They're gonna see some mercy." 00:38:11.92\00:38:14.09 Problem with most of us is we take tomorrow 00:38:14.12\00:38:16.83 to bed with us tonight, 00:38:16.86\00:38:19.09 that's why we can't fall asleep. 00:38:19.13\00:38:21.46 By the way, Isaiah said, 00:38:21.50\00:38:23.10 "It's only wicked folk who can't sleep at night." 00:38:23.13\00:38:27.00 Isaiah said, "The wicked folk are tossed to and fro. 00:38:27.04\00:38:29.87 While they're trying to go to bed at night's 00:38:29.90\00:38:31.77 they are tossed hither and yon, can't sleep." 00:38:31.81\00:38:36.24 And so the Bible says that God told them, 00:38:36.28\00:38:38.91 "You all, just go to sleep, go to rest tonight. 00:38:38.95\00:38:41.42 Don't worry about the provisions, 00:38:41.45\00:38:42.98 tomorrow morning, when you wake up, 00:38:43.02\00:38:46.09 all over the ground, would be the provisions, 00:38:46.12\00:38:48.99 that I would provide for you." 00:38:49.02\00:38:51.03 And the Bible says that they were wafers 00:38:51.06\00:38:53.23 on the ground that tasted like honey. 00:38:53.26\00:38:55.80 They didn't know what it was so they called it "Manna." 00:38:55.83\00:38:59.93 Manna literally means, what is this? 00:38:59.97\00:39:03.51 Whenever I cook for my children, they tell my wife, 00:39:03.54\00:39:07.51 "Daddy gave us manna." 00:39:07.54\00:39:08.88 So God said, "Eat it. 00:39:12.48\00:39:14.82 But only get enough to get you through today. 00:39:14.85\00:39:19.55 Gather two pints per person. 00:39:19.59\00:39:21.12 And don't hold any." Don't ask for take home box. 00:39:21.16\00:39:23.56 Because you don't need a take home box. 00:39:23.59\00:39:25.59 Because when the next day comes, 00:39:25.63\00:39:27.73 there'll be some new mercies. 00:39:27.76\00:39:29.93 God says "I'm gonna have manna for you, 00:39:29.96\00:39:32.23 one day at a time." 00:39:32.27\00:39:34.40 And one way you stay sane in a crazy world, 00:39:34.44\00:39:37.34 is to trust God, one day at a time. 00:39:37.37\00:39:42.68 I'm not worried about Sunday. 00:39:42.71\00:39:45.15 I'm going to trust God that He's got enough mercy 00:39:45.18\00:39:48.02 to get me through Saturday. 00:39:48.05\00:39:50.29 And when Sunday comes, He'll give me new mercies 00:39:50.32\00:39:53.12 to get me through Sunday. 00:39:53.15\00:39:54.92 And when Monday comes, 00:39:54.96\00:39:56.29 He'll give me some Monday mercies. 00:39:56.32\00:39:58.03 And when Tuesday comes, 00:39:58.06\00:39:59.79 God will provide some Tuesday mercies. 00:39:59.83\00:40:01.90 And when Wednesday comes, 00:40:01.93\00:40:03.67 He's gonna give me some Wednesday mercies. 00:40:03.70\00:40:06.43 All my life, all 55 years, I've been getting new mercies, 00:40:06.47\00:40:12.31 55 years of 365 mercies a year. 00:40:12.34\00:40:16.18 God has given me over 20,000 mercies. 00:40:16.21\00:40:20.12 And I want you to know, ladies and gentleman, 00:40:20.15\00:40:22.18 He has said that when He gives the mercies, 00:40:22.22\00:40:24.55 they will be new every morning. 00:40:24.59\00:40:27.19 They will not feel the same. 00:40:27.22\00:40:30.33 And by His mercies, we are not consumed. 00:40:30.36\00:40:36.20 Some of us should have been wiped out a long time ago, 00:40:36.23\00:40:39.33 but it's God's mercies. 00:40:39.37\00:40:41.47 When I think about my own life, I think about God's goodness. 00:40:41.50\00:40:45.37 God has been faithful. 00:40:45.41\00:40:47.98 I don't have the time to tell you 00:40:48.01\00:40:49.34 what the Lord has brought me through. 00:40:49.38\00:40:51.11 How many prayers He has answered. 00:40:51.15\00:40:53.42 How many tight spots He's gotten me out of. 00:40:53.45\00:40:56.32 How many days He has lifted up my bowed down head. 00:40:56.35\00:40:59.95 How many times He has seen me through. 00:40:59.99\00:41:02.96 How many opportunities He has created. 00:41:02.99\00:41:05.16 How many times He has looked 00:41:05.19\00:41:06.53 beyond my faults and saw my needs. 00:41:06.56\00:41:08.96 How many doors He has opened. How many doors He has shut. 00:41:09.00\00:41:13.23 I don't deserve them all, but I am thankful. 00:41:13.27\00:41:16.14 Because God's been faithful. 00:41:16.17\00:41:19.64 His faithfulness is evident in creation, 00:41:19.67\00:41:22.58 it's very clear to me in contemplation. 00:41:22.61\00:41:25.21 And His faithfulness does not fail in confrontation. 00:41:25.25\00:41:28.55 Great is thy faithfulness. 00:41:28.58\00:41:31.75 And great faithfulness demands great faithfulness. 00:41:31.79\00:41:36.09 If God's been faithful, you ought to be faithful. 00:41:36.12\00:41:39.59 You know, my father and mother 00:41:39.63\00:41:41.83 were faithful to us as children. 00:41:41.86\00:41:44.23 And I made sure, when I got old, 00:41:44.27\00:41:46.63 and can provide whatever they needed for them, I did it, 00:41:46.67\00:41:50.01 because they were faithful to me. 00:41:50.04\00:41:51.97 God's been faithful to you, count your blessings 00:41:52.01\00:41:55.74 and name them one by one. 00:41:55.78\00:41:58.38 Faithful is our God. 00:41:58.41\00:42:00.62 I'm reaping the harvest God promised me. 00:42:00.65\00:42:02.82 Take back what the devil stole from me. 00:42:02.85\00:42:05.05 And I rejoice today because I'm gonna recover it all. 00:42:05.09\00:42:09.32 When I think about how far He has brought me. 00:42:09.36\00:42:12.89 What shall I render unto the Lord? 00:42:12.93\00:42:15.20 The Bible says, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so." 00:42:15.23\00:42:20.77 Tell somebody, if He's been good to you, 00:42:20.80\00:42:24.74 if he woke you up this morning, say so. 00:42:24.77\00:42:28.68 If you were able to pay your bills 00:42:28.71\00:42:30.71 because God is faithful, say so. 00:42:30.75\00:42:33.95 If you used to be an emotional wreck in your relationships 00:42:33.98\00:42:37.69 but God gave you new confidence, then say so. 00:42:37.72\00:42:42.89 If your life was nothing short of hopeless 00:42:42.92\00:42:44.96 but when Jesus came in to your life, 00:42:44.99\00:42:46.80 He changed you, then say so. 00:42:46.83\00:42:50.20 So if he has changed you and remade you, 00:42:50.23\00:42:53.40 and cleaned you up, and given you a new name, 00:42:53.44\00:42:56.37 and a new hope, and a new life, say so. 00:42:56.40\00:43:00.31 If he has helped you, say so. 00:43:00.34\00:43:02.98 If you're gonna trust Him, say so. 00:43:03.01\00:43:06.18 If the devil is a liar, say so. 00:43:06.21\00:43:09.18 If you know He is with you, say so. 00:43:09.22\00:43:12.19 If you know no weapon formed 00:43:12.22\00:43:13.86 against you shall prosper, say so. 00:43:13.89\00:43:17.16 If you know that when one door shuts, 00:43:17.19\00:43:19.29 He'll open another, then say so. 00:43:19.33\00:43:21.93 If you know He'll prepare a table before you, 00:43:21.96\00:43:24.47 in the presence of your enemies, then say so. 00:43:24.50\00:43:27.94 So when I think of the goodness of Jesus 00:43:27.97\00:43:31.21 and all He has done for me, my soul cries out, 00:43:31.24\00:43:36.18 thank God, for saving me. 00:43:36.21\00:43:40.75 I want you know, my brothers and sisters, 00:43:40.78\00:43:44.05 that God is a faithful God. 00:43:44.09\00:43:47.06 He will never fail you. 00:43:47.09\00:43:49.32 The Bible says, "He will never leave you." 00:43:49.36\00:43:52.06 The Bible says, "He will never forsake you." 00:43:52.09\00:43:55.23 Trust in the Lord. 00:43:55.26\00:43:57.27 Delight thyself also in the Lord. 00:43:57.30\00:44:00.34 In all thy ways, acknowledge Him. 00:44:00.37\00:44:03.17 And He shall direct thy path. 00:44:03.20\00:44:05.57 You and I, can trust God 00:44:05.61\00:44:08.48 because He has never and never will fail us. 00:44:08.51\00:44:12.71 He's the God who keeps His word. 00:44:12.75\00:44:16.05 Whatever He starts, He finishes. 00:44:16.08\00:44:20.26 Our God is a faithful God. 00:44:20.29\00:44:23.83 His mercies are new every morning. 00:44:23.86\00:44:27.03 You and I can anticipate God doing what God says. 00:44:27.06\00:44:32.00 I have learned to trust in Him. 00:44:32.03\00:44:34.47 I've learned to depend on His Holy Word. 00:44:34.50\00:44:37.51 I've learned to believe whatever God says. 00:44:37.54\00:44:41.04 My brothers and my sisters, you can trust Him tonight. 00:44:41.08\00:44:45.21 Whatever He started in you, 00:44:45.25\00:44:47.58 Bible says, He will complete it. 00:44:47.62\00:44:50.22 We can believe on His word. 00:44:50.25\00:44:52.29 We can trust every word, from Genesis to Revelation, 00:44:52.32\00:44:56.12 because our God is a faithful God. 00:44:56.16\00:45:00.66 Mark will now come and sing for us 00:45:00.70\00:45:02.03 and I'll come back and have an appeal for you. 00:45:02.06\00:45:04.73 Lord, let Your light 00:45:32.26\00:45:38.47 wonderful song, 00:49:17.65\00:49:19.89 "Lord, let Your grace shine on us." 00:49:19.92\00:49:24.99 Pastor, tonight you talked about the Faithfulness of God. 00:49:25.03\00:49:30.20 We highlighted your journey from Trinidad to, 00:49:30.23\00:49:33.64 to New York to Oakwood, Andrews, 00:49:33.67\00:49:36.30 to the United Theological Seminary, 00:49:36.34\00:49:38.24 to where you are today. 00:49:38.27\00:49:40.11 But as I looked at your itinerary, 00:49:40.14\00:49:42.54 you're not just a local preacher, 00:49:42.58\00:49:43.91 you're not just in New York City, 00:49:43.95\00:49:45.28 you're all over the world. 00:49:45.31\00:49:46.65 You're not just a Pastor but you're an evangelist. 00:49:46.68\00:49:48.82 And I know that in some of the stories that you've had, 00:49:48.85\00:49:50.82 in some of the evangelistic series, 00:49:50.85\00:49:52.42 I've seen the numbers of souls 00:49:52.45\00:49:54.29 baptized in different locations. 00:49:54.32\00:49:55.96 And I know some of them are challenging. 00:49:55.99\00:49:57.63 Can you share with us, maybe, 00:49:57.66\00:49:59.13 from some of those places you've been, 00:49:59.16\00:50:01.10 some of the stories that express 00:50:01.13\00:50:02.60 the faithfulness of God, 00:50:02.63\00:50:04.27 as you've seen God work in your meetings? 00:50:04.30\00:50:06.17 John, I remember that meeting in Harlem. 00:50:06.20\00:50:08.77 We had come to the end of the crusade. 00:50:08.80\00:50:11.07 And it was the closing night, we were thanking the workers. 00:50:11.11\00:50:15.81 And someone came to me and said, 00:50:15.84\00:50:17.38 "Pastor, do you still have water in the pool?" 00:50:17.41\00:50:19.71 I said, "Yeah." 00:50:19.75\00:50:21.08 He said, "Well, there's a drunk guy here, 00:50:21.12\00:50:24.32 who wants to be baptized." 00:50:24.35\00:50:26.32 I said, "Which one, the only drunk guy 00:50:26.35\00:50:28.09 who came to attend all summer?" 00:50:28.12\00:50:30.83 His name was Paul. 00:50:30.86\00:50:32.69 So he said, "Would you baptize him?" 00:50:32.73\00:50:34.20 I said, "Yeah, I'm gonna baptize him." 00:50:34.23\00:50:35.86 Well, my elders began to talk about me like a dog. 00:50:35.90\00:50:39.20 They said "Pastor Jules wants to baptize anybody." 00:50:39.23\00:50:42.84 Well, Paul got baptized that night. 00:50:42.87\00:50:46.14 And when we were coming up out of the pool, they said, 00:50:46.17\00:50:49.58 "Pastor, stay in the pool. 00:50:49.61\00:50:50.95 There's somebody else who wants to be baptized." 00:50:50.98\00:50:53.11 It was this woman who said we would never baptize her. 00:50:53.15\00:50:56.48 And she was in tears. No sermon had been preached. 00:50:56.52\00:50:59.92 No appeal was made. 00:50:59.95\00:51:01.29 But God's spirit was still working and I saw that woman 00:51:01.32\00:51:06.26 about five years ago on a cruise. 00:51:06.29\00:51:08.60 And that she was rejoicing about how God blessed her. 00:51:08.63\00:51:11.70 Back to the guy who was drunk, after he was baptized, 00:51:11.73\00:51:15.40 he invited me to his house to have dinner. 00:51:15.44\00:51:19.74 And I said to myself, "Lord, have mercy." 00:51:19.77\00:51:22.68 And I went one Wednesday evening to his house, 00:51:22.71\00:51:25.88 surprised by the cleanliness of the home. 00:51:25.91\00:51:29.12 And then, this woman walked out, 00:51:29.15\00:51:31.45 beautiful woman she is. 00:51:31.49\00:51:32.82 And he introduced her to me as his wife. 00:51:32.85\00:51:35.42 Had a sumptuous meal. 00:51:35.46\00:51:38.83 And while I'm sitting there eating, 00:51:38.86\00:51:40.76 he said to me, he says, 00:51:40.80\00:51:42.13 "Pastor, do you know during the crusade, 00:51:42.16\00:51:45.70 everything you said and you were saying, 00:51:45.73\00:51:47.54 I knew everything you were talking about." 00:51:47.57\00:51:49.14 I said, "Is that right?" 00:51:49.17\00:51:50.51 He said, "Well, my grandmother in South Carolina 00:51:50.54\00:51:53.31 in Columbia gave me a book many years ago. 00:51:53.34\00:51:56.64 It's called The Great Controversy. 00:51:56.68\00:51:58.55 And I read it from cover to cover. 00:51:58.58\00:52:00.88 And you were preaching everything 00:52:00.92\00:52:02.55 that I read from that book." 00:52:02.58\00:52:04.09 Amen. Amen. 00:52:04.12\00:52:05.45 And so I knew everything you were talking about. 00:52:05.49\00:52:08.62 Well, Paul was a faithful member. 00:52:08.66\00:52:12.29 When the elders were not in church, he was there. 00:52:12.33\00:52:14.36 He never missed prayer meeting. 00:52:14.40\00:52:15.73 He never missed Wednesday night prayer meeting 00:52:15.76\00:52:17.10 or Sabbath school. 00:52:17.13\00:52:18.47 Divine service. He was always there. 00:52:18.50\00:52:21.64 And one morning about 3 am in a morning, 00:52:21.67\00:52:23.27 I got a call from his wife. 00:52:23.30\00:52:25.27 She said to me, "Pastor Jules, Paul is dying 00:52:25.31\00:52:28.44 and he's asked me to ask you to come to the hospital." 00:52:28.48\00:52:31.61 Went to the hospital, I was there before he died. 00:52:31.65\00:52:34.85 He died that next day, prayed with him. 00:52:34.88\00:52:38.02 But Paul was faithful till the end. 00:52:38.05\00:52:40.32 And what I learned then, is that God is faithful. 00:52:40.36\00:52:43.79 That young man knew God. He had learned about God. 00:52:43.83\00:52:48.60 And God was faithful to him. 00:52:48.63\00:52:50.47 He made it into the kingdom before it was too late. 00:52:50.50\00:52:54.44 The Lord sent us there on time for him. 00:52:54.47\00:52:56.27 Praise the Lord. 00:52:56.30\00:52:57.64 And the folk who talked about him, 00:52:57.67\00:52:59.37 he was more faithful than they were. 00:52:59.41\00:53:01.84 You think that's an amazing story because sometimes 00:53:01.88\00:53:03.65 we have those "thief on the cross" moments, 00:53:03.68\00:53:06.28 where we forget that the Lord calls us to be fishers of men, 00:53:06.31\00:53:10.89 not the cleaners of the fish. 00:53:10.92\00:53:12.82 And sometimes we want to do that too because 00:53:12.85\00:53:14.86 from all external appearances, it sometimes doesn't appear 00:53:14.89\00:53:17.79 that that person is ready 00:53:17.83\00:53:19.16 but the Lord is the one that is faithful. 00:53:19.19\00:53:20.63 That's right. 00:53:20.66\00:53:22.00 You've also been to Anchorage, Alaska. 00:53:22.03\00:53:24.30 I take it, you went there during the summer. 00:53:24.33\00:53:26.10 Yes, I was. 00:53:26.13\00:53:27.47 Tell us about Anchorage, Alaska. 00:53:27.50\00:53:28.84 I've never been there before but it's quite a different 00:53:28.87\00:53:30.91 venue from Harlem, New York. 00:53:30.94\00:53:32.31 Talk about God's faithfulness there. 00:53:32.34\00:53:34.14 Well, the Lord was faithful. 00:53:34.18\00:53:35.51 The night they picked me up at the airport 00:53:35.54\00:53:37.45 to take me to my residence, 00:53:37.48\00:53:38.81 I was gonna be there for four weeks. 00:53:38.85\00:53:41.08 The Pastor drove me to the conference offices, 00:53:41.12\00:53:43.82 where it's out in the boondocks. 00:53:43.85\00:53:45.22 I had just left Brooklyn, New York, with sirens, 00:53:45.25\00:53:47.86 and noises, and lights, and buildings, and people. 00:53:47.89\00:53:51.09 And they put me in the conference office. 00:53:51.13\00:53:53.29 There was an apartment to stay inside. 00:53:53.33\00:53:54.93 I looked at the Pastor, I said, 00:53:54.96\00:53:56.30 "Pastor, I'm not staying here." 00:53:56.33\00:53:59.67 I said, "Find me a hotel room. 00:53:59.70\00:54:01.44 Because I'm not gonna comfortable out here." 00:54:01.47\00:54:03.24 So that was my introduction to Anchorage. 00:54:03.27\00:54:07.58 Well, you should come to Thompsonville. 00:54:07.61\00:54:09.01 Yeah. 00:54:09.04\00:54:12.75 So he got me a hotel room. 00:54:12.78\00:54:14.58 And I was more comfortable, they were people around. 00:54:14.62\00:54:18.05 But my four weeks in Anchorage, was a blessing, in this regard. 00:54:18.09\00:54:22.59 I saw people, who-- it was a small church. 00:54:22.62\00:54:25.59 But I saw people who loved God.
