There are some
people that wake up

feeling on top of the world,

but then they got to sleep
with the world on top of them.

You never know what
folks are dealing with

because you can't see
the pain that lies beneath.

I guess I got to go there

and make things a
little bit more real for us.

But there was an old
movie by the name of Gladiator.

And in that movie Gladiator,

there was a character
by the name of Maximus,

Maximus who is
played by Russell Crowe.
00:13:29.49\00:13:32.03
Is captured by
the Roman Republic
00:13:32.06\00:13:35.01
and is forced to
fight in a coliseum.
00:13:35.04\00:13:37.56
Well, after while because
Maximus is a mighty warrior,
00:13:37.59\00:13:40.62
he has become a fan favorite
00:13:40.65\00:13:42.47
to those that
are in the coliseum.
00:13:42.50\00:13:44.61
And his folks are
loving on Maximus,
00:13:44.64\00:13:46.57
they long to see him
fight in the coliseum.

But then in one of
the scenes in the movie,

Maximus' hater
Commodus comes to visit him

in the basement of the
coliseum before their fight.

And as Commodus
talks to Maximus,

he knows that Maximus is
a better warrior than he is,

Commodus leans over to
whisper in his ear, in his ears,

whispering in his
ear he pulls out a knife

and stabs Maximus in the back.

Now, listen to me
carefully, Maximus must go out

on to the field
and fight Commodus

but he has a
knife wound in his back.

Maximus has to put on his armor

and he is
bleeding underneath it,

but yet still he must go
out and fight this battle.

I guess what I'm
really trying to say

is that some of us still have
to put on our armor everyday

and fight a battle even though
we are bleeding underneath.

need to understand

is that we have
to fight even though

we're bleeding
underneath our armor.

We have to bleed
underneath our smiles.

We have to bleed
underneath our work clothes.

How often have
we gone into battle?

How often have
we gone into the war

while we're bleeding,

scarred and damaged and
bruised, used and abused,

but yet still we have to smile

as if everything is
going fine and dandy.

Yet still, we have to put
on a smile when we go to work.

up nice in our shirts and ties,

our hats and our
dresses and our wonderful bags

and act like everything is okay,

but deep down inside,

we're bleeding
underneath our armor.

Well, look at
our text this morning

and we see our father

who is bleeding
underneath this armor.

Imagine, envision his father,

who is in the
worst fight of his life

as he takes a leap at
receiving healthcare for his son

who is dying and foaming
and wallowing at the mouth.

He is bleeding
underneath His armor

and in pain, He
approaches His disciples,

Jesus' disciples for help
as He is trying to stay cool.

As a matter of fact
in verse 14 it says,

"When he came to His disciples,
00:15:48.80\00:15:50.81
he saw a great
multitude about them
00:15:50.84\00:15:53.84
and the scribes
were questioning them."

Here the disciples are
being questioned by the scribes.

In other words when you read

in the earlier parts of
the chapter in Mark 9:1-13

James, John and Peter are
coming down from the mountain

only to see the
disciples and some other folks

screaming and
fighting with each other.

If you read the previous verses,

one would understand

that Jesus and
disciples had just came back

from an eventful
moment on top of the mountain.

Yes, they were on the
mount of transfiguration

and the Bible tells us
00:16:29.02\00:16:30.09
that Moses and Elijah
had appeared unto them
00:16:30.12\00:16:33.77
and a significance of
that appearance is so profound.

Moses and Elijah

are representation
of the two resurrections

that's represented
in 1 Thessalonians 4:16

wherein it says that "The
dead in Christ shall rise first,

then which we are
alive shall be caught up

to meet them in the air."

You see, Moses
represents those that have died

and will be resurrected.

Elijah represents
those that will not die

but have been caught up
to meet Jesus in the air.

You see the same
thing it means today

that when we die, we
don't go straight to heaven,

we sleep in the grave
and when Jesus comes back,

He says enter now
into the joy of the Lord.

That's the picture
that is being painted

on the mount of transfiguration.

And the scripture tells us

that the disciples
did not want to leave.

As a matter of
fact, Ellen White writes

that the
disciples were so excited

about what they
saw on that mountain

that they wanted
to build an altar

and live there for
the rest of their lives.

But Jesus says,
we can't stay here

because there
is more work to do.

There are still
more people to be healed,

sins to be
forgiven, doors to be open,

mountains to be
leveled, rivers to be divided,

valleys to be filled,

waves to be made out of nowhere.

There is still work to do.

Disciples, we must
leave this mountaintop

and go down
where the people are.

And so as Jesus
and the disciples

have just had a
monumental moment,

they come down the mountain

to some drama
that they inherited.

I love being on mountaintops

because
mountaintops are good places.

You see, a mountaintop
is a good place to be

because the
mountaintop feels like

life is great and life is dandy.

Life is wonderful.

Nothing bad can happen to you

when you're on
top of the mountain,

you're on a mountain,

you can just look
down at the people

strength in their body.

frustrating when God equips us
