chapter. Jesus is giving his

special instructions on

how they are to witness for Him.

In the Bible we have
truths that we need to

share with people.
But Jesus not only gave

us truth to share,
He gave us methods for

how to share it and
we're going to look at

that today for a little bit.

was catching up time;

after the mid eighteen

prophecy. And so Jesus

Why was Jesus so
concerned with time with almost

two millenia to spare?
Well the Bible tells us in

says for precept must be

upon precept.
Precept upon precept,

The Bible tells us
that in order to find our

answers in the Bible we
have to go to the Bible.

If we have a

Elijah and his servant Gehazi.

Elijah used to go
from place to place and his

work as a prophet and
he would stay in different

places in this city and
different places in this
00:09:08.61\00:09:10.63
city and his round as
a prophet and there was
00:09:10.64\00:09:13.35
a rich lady who
noticed that he came by her
00:09:13.36\00:09:16.67
town all the time and
she talked to her husband.
00:09:16.68\00:09:19.23
She says, you know
the prophet Elijah.
00:09:19.24\00:09:21.00
He comes by here,
why don't we make him
00:09:21.01\00:09:23.49
a special room where
he can stay when he comes

so that we can entertain
God's prophet and we'll
00:09:26.38\00:09:29.35
have a little bed for him there,
00:09:29.36\00:09:31.10
we'll have a lamp
stand, we'll have a chair.
00:09:31.11\00:09:33.51
So that when he
comes, he can have a place

to stay, we can feed him.

And so they did that
and Elijah was very thankful

for this. And so
Elijah would stay there from

time to time and
this lady had no children.

And so Elijah has
realized and that she has taken

care him so well
that he needs to express

himself in some way of
thankfulness to her and

he's talking to
his servant Gehazi.

He says, you know what
is it that we can do for

this lady as she
is so careful with us.

She takes care
of us, she feeds us,

she provides a
bed and Gehazi says,

well you know what?
She doesn't has a child,

and so Elijah told the lady.

He says, you're
gonna have a child at an

appointed time. She
says don't lie to me,

she must have been up in years.

Don't lie to me I
haven't asked for a child.

But Elijah says no
you're gonna have a child

and sure enough at the
appointed time a child was

born and it was a
boy. And so she raised the

child and the
little boy grew and grew.

And you know, lot's
of times little boys

like to go to
work with their daddy.

They like to come with
daddy to work so daddy,

so the little boy
went out with daddy to the

field one day and he
was out there with the
00:10:49.17\00:10:52.04
workers and I don't
know if the heat was too

much form or what but
he developed this terrible
00:10:54.21\00:10:56.57
headache. And he's crying says,
00:10:56.58\00:10:59.00
daddy my head
hurts, my head hurts and so

he says take this
boy home to his momma.

So he went home to his momma,
00:11:05.20\00:11:06.26
sat on her lap until
noon and then he died.

And the woman was
distraught and she didn't

really say anything to
anybody but she laid the

child on the
prophet's bed and she told her

servants, saddle the
ass and get ready for me

and go and you don't
slow down unless I tell you.

And so they went to see
the prophet and you know

the Bible never records
that she told the prophet

that the boy died.
But Elijah could tell from

the look on her face
that something terrible

was wrong. She says, I
told you not to lie to me.

I told you not to lie
to me about a child and

he knew something was bad,

he at least knew that
this child was in danger

and could die. I believe that he

did know that he had
died but nonetheless moments

were important at this time.

So let's look at 2nd
Kings 4 and verse 29 and

together and we're gonna see

exactly what Elijah
told the prophet to say.

and take my staff in

Elijah was telling

time? I believe Elijah was

concerned with time
because he knew what

every first
responder, what every ambulance

person, what
every fireman knows.

Minutes, seconds,
fractions of seconds are

important in
order to save a life.

Want to tell you a
little story about,

a personal story of mine.

I didn't always make
my living as a preacher,

at times I've made my
living doing other things
00:13:38.79\00:13:40.94
as Paul in order to
support myself to do
00:13:40.95\00:13:43.08
God's work. I am also
a registered nurse and I
00:13:43.09\00:13:46.03
was working in a
hospital as a supervisor and
00:13:46.04\00:13:48.15
there is a man
that worked with us a
00:13:48.16\00:13:49.61
registered nurse. I am
gonna just use his name,
00:13:49.62\00:13:52.22
I am gonna call him Jim.
00:13:52.23\00:13:53.82
I am not gonna give
you his real name to
00:13:53.83\00:13:55.55
protect his anonymity,
but Jim was a nurse that
00:13:55.56\00:13:58.90
everybody liked.
He was competent;
00:13:58.91\00:14:01.83
he could do anything
there was in the hospital.
00:14:01.84\00:14:04.04
There wasn't anything
Jim couldn't do and we
00:14:04.05\00:14:06.11
loved Jim but one night
at work Jim was a little
00:14:06.12\00:14:10.38
aggravated. And he
was especially aggravated
00:14:10.39\00:14:15.12
that night,
something, he was talking to a
00:14:15.13\00:14:16.71
group of people and
he said God's name with a
00:14:16.72\00:14:21.07
curse attached,
as you know what I'm
00:14:21.08\00:14:23.20
talking about. He took
the Lord's name in vain
00:14:23.21\00:14:25.27
and Jim had been
the son of a preacher.
00:14:26.30\00:14:28.07
And Jim knew better
and Jim knew you didn't do
00:14:29.13\00:14:30.77
that stuff. And I
clenched when I heard Jim say

that, oh I thought,
oh Jim, don't do that and

I was going to say
something to him about it.

say Jim, you know.

You need to ask God
to forgive you for that,

you did some wrong but
there were other people

standing there and I
didn't want to have an

embarrassing
issue at that moment.

So I put it off, I
said I'm gonna talk to

Jim later when he's
quiet and I can just talk to

him one on one personally.

Well, that time never
came that night and so

I thought, well I'll
talk to Jim when he comes to

work next time.
But you know Jim never

returned to work,
he went home and he

stumbled out of his
car for whatever reason.

I don't know why
stumbled but he stumbled and

he fell and his cheek
hit a branch and it made

a little scratch on his cheek.

That's all it
was a little scratch,

well between that
and the next morning.

Jim developed what
is called necrotizing

fasciitis, that's
that flesh eating disease

you've heard so much about.

It literally eats the
flesh away and his mouth

and his cheek and his
eye lids were turning black

and the skin was getting dead.

And his face didn't
look the same and he went

to the hospital,
when they realized what

was going on they
flew him by helicopter to

another large
major medica center.

His head got huge and
he was on life support and

this flesh eating
disease they were concerned

that it might attack
and invade his brain and his

internal organs. It
was affecting his chest

and everything, they
had him on life support,
00:16:11.20\00:16:13.83
he was sedated.
He was out for the
00:16:13.84\00:16:15.65
count and they were
expecting him to die.

When I went to
visit Jim in the hospital,

there wasn't one
thing that looked like Jim

except his hair color
that was the only way,

even had any clue
that it was Jim was

his hair color
and I was I upset.

I did not want for Jim
to die with unconfessed

sin. And so I
pray earnestly for Jim,

I'd, I asked the
Lord, give him a chance.

Give him one more
chance, give me the opportunity

to work with him to
save his soul but I prayed

for Jim not just for Jim's sake,

I prayed for Jim
for my sake as well.
