Hello! Welcome to Faith Chapel. 00:00:30.44\00:00:32.04 My name is Jeff Zaremsky. Today we're 00:00:32.07\00:00:33.71 gonna be talking about the garments that 00:00:33.74\00:00:35.17 you see me wearing and looking at it in 00:00:35.20\00:00:37.20 the light of the Bible, don't worry, 00:00:37.28\00:00:38.46 I'm not gonna tell you that everybody has to 00:00:38.63\00:00:40.13 wear it or that it should be worn or anything 00:00:40.28\00:00:41.67 like that, but we're gonna learn 00:00:41.83\00:00:42.80 some spiritual analogies from it. 00:00:42.81\00:00:44.13 But let's start with prayer. Our Lord and God, 00:00:44.55\00:00:46.88 King of the universe, speak through me and 00:00:47.02\00:00:49.65 speak to each one of our hearts from heaven, 00:00:49.70\00:00:52.63 from your throne, in Jesus holy name, amen. 00:00:52.84\00:00:56.17 The prayer shawl that you see me wearing 00:00:57.48\00:00:59.21 it's traditionally worn during Jewish people 00:00:59.92\00:01:01.50 during prayer times and it's just like I say 00:01:01.57\00:01:03.46 a little background just give you a little 00:01:03.49\00:01:04.53 history on it, again not to get anyone all 00:01:04.60\00:01:07.59 fearful that we're starting revolution here 00:01:07.62\00:01:09.87 that everyone has to start wearing these 00:01:10.39\00:01:11.76 things, but some interesting things we're 00:01:11.85\00:01:13.47 gonna look at. They're usually 24 inches to 00:01:13.53\00:01:18.47 60 inches wide and usually about 72 inches 00:01:18.50\00:01:21.85 long, so kind of rectangular in shape. 00:01:21.88\00:01:23.79 The majority of them have white colors like 00:01:24.51\00:01:26.19 you see this one with some stripes some times 00:01:26.22\00:01:28.93 black stripes, sometimes blue stripes maybe 00:01:28.96\00:01:31.56 a gold stripe also, or a silver stripe, 00:01:31.59\00:01:34.05 but there's variety colors today. 00:01:34.53\00:01:36.49 The most common ones are the black or blue 00:01:37.07\00:01:39.35 with the majority of it being white. 00:01:39.78\00:01:41.38 It traditionally was only worn by men, 00:01:43.38\00:01:45.29 but today women are wearing them as well 00:01:45.45\00:01:48.17 in Jewish circles. There is no Biblical 00:01:48.49\00:01:51.21 injunction to wear a Tallit to wear a prayer 00:01:51.29\00:01:54.79 shawl, although there is a Bible text that 00:01:54.82\00:01:57.23 refers to the fringes and we're gonna read 00:01:57.48\00:02:01.15 that text here and to the prayer shawl is 00:02:01.24\00:02:04.39 basically just a place to hang the fringes. 00:02:04.42\00:02:06.21 So let's the read that Bible text out of 00:02:06.78\00:02:08.78 Numbers chapter 15 that says, 00:02:08.87\00:02:12.65 the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying, 00:02:12.88\00:02:15.53 "Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them 00:02:15.97\00:02:18.12 to make tassels on the corners of their 00:02:18.15\00:02:19.83 garments throughout their generations, 00:02:19.86\00:02:22.11 and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the 00:02:22.64\00:02:25.58 corners. And you shall have the tassel, 00:02:25.61\00:02:28.00 that you may look upon it and remember 00:02:28.03\00:02:29.98 all the commandments of the LORD and do 00:02:30.01\00:02:32.70 them. And that you may not follow the 00:02:32.83\00:02:35.12 harlotry to which your own heart and your 00:02:35.15\00:02:36.96 own eyes and inclined, and that you 00:02:36.99\00:02:38.81 remember and do all My commandments, 00:02:38.84\00:02:41.52 and be holy for your God. I am the LORD your 00:02:41.86\00:02:45.47 God, who brought you gout of the land of 00:02:45.50\00:02:47.03 Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God." 00:02:47.11\00:02:51.59 And so God is wanting us to remember that He 00:02:52.74\00:02:54.01 is the Lord God that He is all powerful and 00:02:54.04\00:02:55.58 He is the one who brought us out of the 00:02:55.69\00:02:56.69 land of Egypt, and we couldn't come out of 00:02:56.78\00:02:58.40 Egypt in our own strength and power but that 00:02:58.45\00:03:00.24 he took God doing it, and so He mentions 00:03:00.27\00:03:03.27 there in that text, to put tassels. 00:03:03.33\00:03:06.14 Now I believe that the tassels commandments 00:03:06.20\00:03:08.58 is very similar to the Circumcision Commandment 00:03:08.61\00:03:10.69 that it came about 2500 years into earth's 00:03:11.16\00:03:15.68 history no one didn't have tassels, Methuselah 00:03:15.72\00:03:18.45 didn't have tassels even Abraham Isaac and 00:03:18.51\00:03:20.55 Jacob didn't have tassels, it doesn't come along 00:03:20.69\00:03:22.39 again until the writings of Moses. So there's a 00:03:22.83\00:03:25.06 specific time for a specific purpose like 00:03:25.18\00:03:27.42 circumcision, but the text does saying to 00:03:27.53\00:03:29.83 put it and it mentions blue so we have to blue 00:03:29.86\00:03:32.01 ribbon on it as well. Today, modern Tallit don't 00:03:32.19\00:03:36.22 usually have a blue ribbon and there is a 00:03:36.25\00:03:38.62 rabbinical reason for that but and there is 00:03:38.65\00:03:43.27 certain amount of knots, that and knots and 00:03:43.31\00:03:45.85 coils and this again rabbinical interpretation 00:03:45.97\00:03:48.30 they get the knots and the coils to match up 00:03:48.54\00:03:50.73 to the sentence that God is one as well as it 00:03:51.53\00:03:54.59 counting of them to bring it up to the number 00:03:54.62\00:03:57.23 of 613 and there are 613 commandments in the 00:03:57.26\00:04:02.31 Torah, and there is that symbolism of 00:04:02.38\00:04:04.90 can bringing it back to the word of God, 00:04:04.93\00:04:06.55 bringing back to the Bible. 00:04:06.85\00:04:08.96 A Tallit is worn for times of prayer, 00:04:13.26\00:04:15.14 some Jewish people will wear a small Tallit 00:04:16.52\00:04:19.53 called a Tallit Katan that usually worn under 00:04:19.65\00:04:22.55 their garments, but the big ones that you 00:04:22.58\00:04:25.19 see that's one for times of prayer and the 00:04:25.22\00:04:29.74 synagogues or in Israel you see at the 00:04:29.79\00:04:31.75 western worn then being worn their from 00:04:31.82\00:04:34.27 morning prayer in their home. Lets look at 00:04:34.30\00:04:37.27 some Bible text that biblical experiences 00:04:37.38\00:04:40.06 that possibly referring to the Tallit and let's 00:04:40.09\00:04:43.01 start with the Elijah. You remember Elijah he 00:04:43.04\00:04:44.94 was on Mount Carmel and having this experience 00:04:44.98\00:04:47.48 with the pagan Baal worshipers, and God 00:04:48.17\00:04:54.04 brings down fire from heaven and destroys or 00:04:54.09\00:04:57.24 consumes the altar and his sacrifice and all the 00:04:57.41\00:05:00.19 water that he poured on it and ends the 00:05:00.25\00:05:02.28 three and half years of drought, and then 00:05:02.47\00:05:04.83 it begins to rain and many people surround 00:05:04.86\00:05:10.02 Elijah and believe in Lord, believe in the 00:05:10.05\00:05:11.84 Lord of Elijah and there is a great revival 00:05:11.87\00:05:13.87 taking place and Elijah goes then running 00:05:13.90\00:05:16.31 and with King Ahab and he comes and the 00:05:16.77\00:05:20.26 Queen tells them that she's gonna have him 00:05:20.29\00:05:22.40 killed, Jezebel says she's gonna have him 00:05:22.48\00:05:23.74 killed and he folds his faith, wavers after 00:05:23.77\00:05:26.47 that high experience and he goes running 00:05:26.50\00:05:28.57 again and he runs all the way and he hides 00:05:28.60\00:05:30.57 in the mountain and that's where we'll pick 00:05:30.60\00:05:31.69 up our text in First Kings chapter 19 verses 11 00:05:31.72\00:05:35.53 through 13, Then He said, go out, and God 00:05:35.56\00:05:38.66 speaks to him and God says go out and stand 00:05:38.71\00:05:40.84 on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, 00:05:40.87\00:05:43.49 the LORD passed by, and a great and strong 00:05:43.52\00:05:46.51 wind tore into the mountains and broke the 00:05:46.54\00:05:48.79 rocks in pieces, that must have been some 00:05:48.83\00:05:50.71 mighty wind, and before the LORD, but the 00:05:50.75\00:05:53.68 LORD was not in the wind; and after the 00:05:53.71\00:05:55.94 wind and earthquake, but the LORD was not 00:05:56.05\00:05:58.40 in the earthquake and after the earthquake 00:05:58.43\00:06:00.71 a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; 00:06:00.76\00:06:03.51 and after the fire a still small voice. 00:06:04.20\00:06:06.93 And so it was, when Elijah heard it, that he 00:06:07.62\00:06:10.20 wrapped his face in his mantle and went 00:06:10.27\00:06:13.96 out and stood in the entrance of the cave. 00:06:14.10\00:06:17.01 Suddenly a voice came to him, and saying, 00:06:17.98\00:06:19.83 "What are you doing here Elijah?" 00:06:20.18\00:06:22.78 And so Elijah wraps himself in his prayer 00:06:23.76\00:06:27.52 shawl in his mantle and comes out before the 00:06:27.60\00:06:30.77 LORD hears the LORD'S voice speaking in 00:06:30.80\00:06:32.84 that still small voice and he wraps himself in 00:06:32.94\00:06:34.88 prayer and surrender to the LORD God and 00:06:34.91\00:06:37.91 God is now able to talk to him. Continue on in 00:06:37.94\00:06:42.34 Elijah's life and God calls Elijah to go and 00:06:42.37\00:06:46.10 mentor Elisha to replace him and so Elijah goes 00:06:46.16\00:06:51.09 down to where Elisha is and we pick that up 00:06:51.12\00:06:54.77 in First Kings chapter 19 verse 19, and Elijah 00:06:54.80\00:06:59.28 So he departed from there, and found Elisha 00:06:59.37\00:07:02.26 the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with 00:07:02.31\00:07:05.50 the twelve yoke of oxen before him, 00:07:05.55\00:07:07.36 and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah 00:07:07.66\00:07:11.51 passed by him and threw his mantel on him. 00:07:11.54\00:07:15.16 And so Elijah then comes up to him takes 00:07:15.76\00:07:18.23 his mantle takes his prayer shawl that he 00:07:18.26\00:07:20.89 had used in prayer and he threw it over 00:07:20.93\00:07:23.77 Elisha indicating that he is passing the torch, 00:07:24.29\00:07:27.69 he is passing the prophetic gift on to 00:07:27.76\00:07:33.23 Elijah. Elisha hesitates a little bit and but then 00:07:33.50\00:07:37.66 comes and follows his sacrifices of the oxen 00:07:37.81\00:07:40.96 that he has and he follows Elijah. And eventually 00:07:41.08\00:07:46.26 Elijah then is preparing to depart, God has 00:07:46.42\00:07:48.62 revealed to him that it's time for him to leave 00:07:48.65\00:07:50.68 and so Elijah and Elisha go down to the Jordan 00:07:50.88\00:07:54.63 river, back at the entrance where we entered 00:07:54.80\00:07:56.84 Israel back during the time of Joshua. 00:07:56.87\00:07:59.68 And so they are going back down, 00:08:00.19\00:08:01.43 they go back down to the Jordan and we'll 00:08:01.46\00:08:02.83 pick it up in Second Kings chapter 2 verses 8 00:08:02.90\00:08:06.73 through 13, Now Elijah took his mantle, 00:08:06.78\00:08:09.89 so he takes off his mantle he takes off his 00:08:09.94\00:08:11.39 prayer shawl, he takes his mantle rolls it up, 00:08:11.42\00:08:13.48 and struck the water; and it was divided this 00:08:13.58\00:08:16.64 way and that, so that the two of them 00:08:16.67\00:08:18.74 crossed over on dry ground. And it was so, 00:08:18.89\00:08:21.95 when they had crossed over, that Elijah said 00:08:21.98\00:08:24.17 to Elisha, Ask! What may I do for you, 00:08:24.20\00:08:27.22 before I am taken away from you? 00:08:27.40\00:08:29.19 And Elisha said, Please let a double portion 00:08:29.57\00:08:32.69 of your spirit be upon me. And so he said, 00:08:32.72\00:08:35.78 You have asked a hard thing, nevertheless, 00:08:35.84\00:08:38.01 if you see me when I am taken from you, 00:08:38.28\00:08:40.69 it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall 00:08:40.97\00:08:44.00 not be so. And then it happened, as they 00:08:44.03\00:08:46.77 continued on and talked, that suddenly a 00:08:46.83\00:08:49.45 chariot of fire appeared with the horses of fire, 00:08:49.56\00:08:53.16 and separated the two of them; and Elijah 00:08:53.45\00:08:55.74 went up by whirlwind into heaven. 00:08:55.78\00:08:57.83 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, 00:08:58.87\00:09:00.84 "My Father, my Father, the chariot of Israel 00:09:00.89\00:09:03.87 and its horsemen!" So he saw him no more. 00:09:03.90\00:09:06.61 And he took hold of his own clothes and tore 00:09:07.10\00:09:09.29 them into two pieces. And he also took up 00:09:09.42\00:09:12.10 the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, 00:09:12.13\00:09:15.49 and went back and stood by the bank of the 00:09:16.19\00:09:19.04 Jordan. So we see here they come down to 00:09:19.07\00:09:22.74 the Jordan, Elijah takes off the mantle, 00:09:22.82\00:09:24.97 takes off the prayer shawl, strikes the water 00:09:25.00\00:09:27.64 of Jordan river and it parts again just like 00:09:27.77\00:09:30.43 it did for them entering in, in the time of 00:09:30.46\00:09:32.68 Joshua and they pass over across and Elijah 00:09:32.71\00:09:35.90 makes this wonderful offer to Elisha what would 00:09:36.02\00:09:38.04 you like and he asked for a very good thing, 00:09:38.07\00:09:40.44 that same Holy Spirit that's been upon you, 00:09:40.61\00:09:42.40 I want double portion of that, if I'm gonna 00:09:42.58\00:09:45.96 take over the ministry, if I'm gonna take 00:09:46.01\00:09:47.32 over your mantle, if I'm gonna, if God is 00:09:47.35\00:09:48.76 gonna use me then I one that use me powerfully 00:09:48.88\00:09:51.26 I want to be fully surrendered to him, 00:09:51.35\00:09:52.89 I want to be fully filled with him and I 00:09:52.92\00:09:54.26 want a double portion of your spirit, that's a 00:09:54.29\00:09:57.66 great prayer. And so Elijah tells him oh if you 00:09:57.69\00:10:00.67 get to see me go then God is gonna grant it 00:10:00.70\00:10:02.38 to you and this thing then the chariot comes 00:10:02.48\00:10:04.60 down and this is symbolic of the second coming. 00:10:04.63\00:10:07.39 Now the Lord comes down and translates 00:10:07.52\00:10:10.03 those that are living straight up in the 00:10:10.66\00:10:11.93 heaven, takes Elijah up to heaven and Elijah 00:10:11.96\00:10:16.30 could to see it. Now, and it says as he's 00:10:16.33\00:10:18.35 going up, as Elijah is going up he drops 00:10:18.38\00:10:21.11 you, he either tosses or somehow he leaves 00:10:21.14\00:10:23.19 his prayer shawl, he leaves his mantle again 00:10:23.40\00:10:26.86 passing that anointing onto and it's not 00:10:27.01\00:10:31.46 the piece of the cloth but passing that symbolic 00:10:31.49\00:10:34.37 prophetic anointing onto Elijah and to he 00:10:36.18\00:10:40.21 picks up that mantle the only thing that's 00:10:40.26\00:10:41.70 left of Elijah and he leaves that, they say 00:10:41.73\00:10:44.52 you can't take it with you, you know he 00:10:44.55\00:10:45.79 took everything else with him, but he left 00:10:45.90\00:10:47.61 his prayer shawl, he left his mantle, 00:10:47.80\00:10:49.27 and Elisha picks it up and Elisha goes back 00:10:49.62\00:10:53.76 to the Jordan to the same spot that they 00:10:54.24\00:10:57.41 had crossed over before very close if 00:10:57.48\00:10:59.63 not the same sport that the children of 00:10:59.66\00:11:02.04 Israel crossed over and after the 40 years 00:11:02.07\00:11:04.39 in the wilderness and so reliving the history 00:11:04.42\00:11:06.63 here again entering into the promise land and 00:11:06.67\00:11:09.42 then right after resurrection now entering 00:11:09.56\00:11:10.88 into the promised land. We're gonna pick 00:11:10.93\00:11:13.51 it up in Second Kings chapter 2 verse 14, 00:11:13.54\00:11:17.07 and he took the mantle of Elijah that fell 00:11:17.53\00:11:19.71 from him and smote the waters and said, 00:11:19.76\00:11:22.66 "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" 00:11:22.78\00:11:24.94 And when he also had struck the waters 00:11:25.57\00:11:27.29 with that mantle with that prayer shawl 00:11:27.39\00:11:29.16 they departed hither and thither and Elisha 00:11:29.45\00:11:32.64 went over. And when the sons of the 00:11:33.11\00:11:35.05 prophets, which were to view at Jericho 00:11:35.25\00:11:37.33 saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah does 00:11:37.63\00:11:41.11 rest on Elisha. So they were able to see 00:11:41.23\00:11:44.29 that the spirit of the Lord that was on Elijah 00:11:44.32\00:11:46.10 was now on Elisha. And I'm sure was more 00:11:46.14\00:11:48.97 than just seeing that he's wearing his mantle 00:11:49.00\00:11:50.72 but with the spirit of Lord there were just 00:11:51.25\00:11:52.41 able to see that God's presence out of him 00:11:52.44\00:11:55.55 or we see being used that the prayer shawl 00:11:56.26\00:11:57.88 as a mantle as a passing on of that anointing. 00:11:57.91\00:12:01.75 Let's go back several years before this 00:12:02.45\00:12:04.02 back to the time of Samuel and Saul during 00:12:04.05\00:12:06.96 times of First Samuel we'll look in the Bible 00:12:08.69\00:12:10.34 in First Samuel chapter 15 verses 27 and 28, 00:12:10.37\00:12:15.04 and as Samuel turned around to go away, 00:12:16.37\00:12:18.97 Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore. 00:12:19.39\00:12:22.44 So Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn 00:12:22.98\00:12:25.37 the kingdom of Israel from you today, 00:12:25.40\00:12:27.48 and had given it to a neighbor of yours, 00:12:28.06\00:12:29.90 who is better than you. And so, Samuel 00:12:30.12\00:12:34.74 and Saul had that's turned from the LORD 00:12:34.77\00:12:37.27 not totally but in his actions he was not 00:12:37.60\00:12:40.83 following the LORD and so Samuel comes to 00:12:40.93\00:12:42.74 rebuke him and tells him the kingdom's gonna 00:12:42.80\00:12:45.15 be taken from him. King Saul grabs a hold 00:12:45.18\00:12:48.19 of his robe and tears, the scripture said tears 00:12:48.32\00:12:53.02 the border and he tore it, grabbed that sees 00:12:53.33\00:12:56.53 the edge of the robe and that's right where 00:12:56.56\00:12:59.16 the blue would be, that's where that blue 00:12:59.19\00:13:01.28 ribbon would have been and he tears that. 00:13:01.35\00:13:04.28 Now the, the white in the robe represents 00:13:04.85\00:13:07.94 the righteousness, the purity of God's 00:13:08.16\00:13:10.71 righteousness. Gold would represent faith, 00:13:10.74\00:13:13.16 but the blue will represent God's royal law. 00:13:13.30\00:13:16.40 And so he tears the edge of his robe. 00:13:16.99\00:13:19.72 In other words he's broken the commandments 00:13:21.64\00:13:23.89 just as Moses did when we were breaking 00:13:24.23\00:13:26.61 the commandments at the base of the 00:13:26.64\00:13:28.25 mountain Moses came down and then broke 00:13:28.40\00:13:30.88 the physical commandments, because we had 00:13:31.26\00:13:33.66 already broken them. And so here Saul had 00:13:33.86\00:13:37.28 been breaking the commandments and so now 00:13:37.31\00:13:39.03 he whips the robe. In other words, Samuel 00:13:39.06\00:13:42.89 sees that analogy and says that the kingdom 00:13:42.99\00:13:44.92 has been torn from you, it's been whipped from 00:13:44.99\00:13:47.39 you, you've broken God's laws, you've 00:13:47.42\00:13:49.66 broken your connection with Him and you 00:13:49.76\00:13:51.83 just symbolically done it whipping the edge 00:13:51.86\00:13:54.73 of that garment, whipping that blue thread 00:13:54.76\00:13:57.20 which is a reminder of the commandments 00:13:57.23\00:13:59.34 of God and that God is that one who leads 00:13:59.57\00:14:02.29 us and guides us and delivers us. We go 00:14:02.32\00:14:06.67 back even further in history and we go back 00:14:06.73\00:14:09.35 to the time of Israel, Jacob Israel and Joseph. 00:14:09.43\00:14:13.45 Genesis chapter 37 verse 3, and the Bible 00:14:14.07\00:14:17.93 says in this text that Israel, now Israel loved 00:14:17.97\00:14:21.48 Joseph more than all his children, because he was 00:14:21.51\00:14:24.99 the son of his old age. And he made him a 00:14:25.02\00:14:27.40 tunic of many colors. And so we see the 00:14:27.43\00:14:30.25 Bible using some different terms mantle, 00:14:30.28\00:14:32.56 robe, tunic, coat, his coat of many colors his 00:14:32.60\00:14:36.10 outer garment. It might not have been a prayer 00:14:36.17\00:14:38.26 shawl but very well could have been of 00:14:38.29\00:14:40.05 many colors and today they have ones, 00:14:40.08\00:14:41.90 they called them Joseph's coat that have 00:14:41.93\00:14:43.62 more colors then the one I am wearing today, 00:14:43.69\00:14:45.45 very brightly colored but still with the majority 00:14:45.75\00:14:47.53 of it being white. And so, Jacob makes this 00:14:47.56\00:14:52.02 coat for him, and we know that Jacob has a 00:14:52.09\00:14:55.46 heart after Joseph and is desiring to pass on 00:14:55.49\00:14:58.26 the lineage to him, wanting him to receive 00:14:58.29\00:15:00.76 the birthright, wanting him to take over, 00:15:00.92\00:15:02.73 even though he is the 11th of the 12th sons 00:15:02.80\00:15:05.65 of Israel of Jacob, and yet he has a heart 00:15:05.69\00:15:09.49 for him. Jacob is, Joseph is the firstborn 00:15:09.52\00:15:12.30 of his wife Rachel that he loves more than 00:15:12.75\00:15:16.96 he loves Leah and so he is wanting to bestow 00:15:16.99\00:15:19.05 upon Joseph this mantle as we see with like 00:15:19.08\00:15:23.08 Elijah this mantle of authority to pass it on 00:15:23.28\00:15:26.84 to Joseph and so he makes him this coat of 00:15:27.26\00:15:29.74 many colors. And, of course the brothers 00:15:30.05\00:15:33.66 kind of pick up on this that something special's 00:15:33.79\00:15:35.41 going on here that hey that dad's bypassing 00:15:35.44\00:15:38.51 us and he's going to be passing on this 00:15:38.54\00:15:41.48 authority onto Joseph and give him all the 00:15:41.51\00:15:44.18 specialties of the double portion and of the 00:15:44.21\00:15:47.06 spiritual leadership and so they're very 00:15:47.32\00:15:49.64 jealous, they've been jealous of Joseph to 00:15:49.73\00:15:51.13 begin with and this is kind of the icing on 00:15:51.24\00:15:53.10 the cake, and so we pick it up there in the 00:15:53.13\00:15:55.73 same chapter Genesis chapter 37 verse 23, 00:15:55.76\00:15:59.45 where it says that it came to pass, 00:15:59.71\00:16:02.12 and so it came to pass, when Joseph had 00:16:02.15\00:16:04.33 come to his brothers, that they stripped 00:16:04.36\00:16:06.86 Joseph of his tunic that was on him, 00:16:06.90\00:16:10.08 the tunic of many colors that was on him. 00:16:10.21\00:16:13.07 And so the brothers are not happy at all, 00:16:13.83\00:16:15.74 they ripped this tunic off the symbolism off, 00:16:16.14\00:16:19.31 the symbol of authority, the symbol of 00:16:19.38\00:16:20.85 rulership over them, and they rip it off 00:16:21.00\00:16:23.13 of him. They could have taken anything off, 00:16:23.16\00:16:25.52 but that is specifically where their anger is at, 00:16:25.59\00:16:28.76 they rip this off of him and they're just 00:16:29.41\00:16:32.14 trying to rip the authority from him, 00:16:32.19\00:16:34.28 and take back their feeling of rightness of 00:16:34.49\00:16:37.59 the role of the first born and receiving the 00:16:37.62\00:16:41.46 inheritance. And then in Genesis chapter 37 00:16:41.49\00:16:44.08 verse 31, so they took Joseph's tunic, 00:16:44.44\00:16:47.84 killed a kid of the goat, and dipped the tunic 00:16:48.34\00:16:50.90 in the blood. So here they take Joseph, 00:16:50.93\00:16:53.55 they take his coat away, they take his tunic 00:16:53.74\00:16:55.38 away, they take his outer garment this 00:16:55.44\00:16:57.31 prayer shawl away and the symbolism of 00:16:57.34\00:16:59.86 God's love of his father's love for him and 00:16:59.98\00:17:01.79 authority and they killed his goat and they 00:17:01.82\00:17:03.87 dipped it in blood. And so now his garment 00:17:04.12\00:17:06.77 his outer garment is colorful garment, 00:17:07.37\00:17:09.38 his brightly colored garment coat kind of 00:17:09.63\00:17:11.74 many colors is now dipped in blood, 00:17:11.77\00:17:13.80 a robe dipped in blood. And as we think of 00:17:13.87\00:17:17.71 Joseph and we think how he's then sold 00:17:17.75\00:17:19.88 into Egypt and then he's there in Egypt and 00:17:19.91\00:17:22.26 he becomes the sitting at the right hand of 00:17:22.29\00:17:26.06 the ruler and from there he is used to save 00:17:26.09\00:17:30.78 and deliver the people. Well, that makes me 00:17:31.06\00:17:33.77 think of Revelation and as we turn to 00:17:33.86\00:17:35.35 Revelation chapter 19 verses 13 and 16 the 00:17:35.41\00:17:41.71 scripture says, and he was clothed referring 00:17:41.78\00:17:43.99 to Jesus, that he is clothed with a robe 00:17:44.02\00:17:48.09 dipped in blood. Just like Joseph's robe was 00:17:49.25\00:17:52.67 dipped in blood and his name is called the 00:17:52.74\00:17:56.38 word of God. And he was on, and he has 00:17:56.41\00:18:01.62 on his robe and on his thigh a name written 00:18:01.65\00:18:04.67 King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And so, 00:18:05.13\00:18:08.92 Jesus himself wrapped in a robe that is also 00:18:09.24\00:18:13.43 dipped in blood just as Joseph's robe was 00:18:13.48\00:18:16.95 dipped in blood and God used him to save the 00:18:17.01\00:18:20.01 people. God uses Jesus' robe dipped in blood, 00:18:20.04\00:18:24.59 Himself dipped in blood, His life dipped in 00:18:24.99\00:18:27.45 blood. When we see that robe representing 00:18:27.48\00:18:29.29 Him, the robe is dipped in blood Jesus was the 00:18:29.32\00:18:31.39 one that was dipped in blood, He is the one 00:18:31.42\00:18:33.30 who shed His blood for us. It wasn't His robe 00:18:33.33\00:18:35.03 that were shed, it wasn't His robe that was 00:18:35.10\00:18:36.99 dipped it was He Himself that was dipped in 00:18:37.02\00:18:40.67 blood. And so the robe itself is symbolic of 00:18:40.76\00:18:44.68 Jesus. We'll see that here a little bit more. 00:18:44.71\00:18:47.43 Let's look now in The Book Of Luke in the 00:18:48.84\00:18:51.75 time of Jesus on this earth as a human 00:18:51.82\00:18:54.42 being down from heaven. Luke chapter 8 verses 00:18:54.54\00:18:59.01 43 and 44, now a woman, having a flow of 00:18:59.04\00:19:04.53 blood for twelve years, who had spent 00:19:04.58\00:19:07.84 all her livelihood on physicians and could not 00:19:07.92\00:19:10.86 be healed by any, came from behind and 00:19:10.91\00:19:13.91 touched the border of His garment. 00:19:14.03\00:19:17.18 And immediately her flow of blood stopped. 00:19:17.62\00:19:21.08 That's very interesting that she has had 00:19:22.27\00:19:25.58 this illness for twelve years at this point 00:19:25.61\00:19:28.07 of time Jesus is on His way to heal a 00:19:28.67\00:19:31.81 young girl who has died, who is twelve 00:19:32.01\00:19:34.90 years old. And so there's this twelve year 00:19:34.93\00:19:36.94 old girl and this lady comes to Him and she 00:19:36.97\00:19:39.57 has a sickness about the same time twelve 00:19:39.60\00:19:41.80 years she gets sick about the same time this 00:19:41.83\00:19:43.95 child is born, and she comes up to Jesus 00:19:43.98\00:19:46.60 and she says to herself if I might just touch 00:19:46.66\00:19:48.80 the border of His garments. Now to reach 00:19:49.08\00:19:53.22 the border of His garment if he was wearing 00:19:53.59\00:19:55.12 it as he is walking along and he's wearing it 00:19:55.17\00:19:56.69 down like this and he's just wearing this 00:19:56.72\00:19:58.44 outer garment just down like this, 00:19:58.47\00:20:00.15 she's got to kind of bend over in order to 00:20:00.18\00:20:02.96 reach the edge, in order to reach the border 00:20:03.05\00:20:05.50 of His garment. She's gotta humble herself 00:20:05.78\00:20:08.58 in a way to come down and reach it. 00:20:08.62\00:20:11.02 She could just say it would be a whole lot 00:20:11.24\00:20:12.34 easier if I could just reach across somebody 00:20:12.46\00:20:13.82 and just touch His shoulder and touch 00:20:13.85\00:20:15.23 anywhere on Him or touch any part of him 00:20:15.31\00:20:18.14 but she wants to touch the border of his 00:20:19.16\00:20:21.61 garment and again that's where the, 00:20:21.66\00:20:23.54 where the blue would be the, the blue ribbon 00:20:23.83\00:20:25.89 that would have been on the border of Jesus' 00:20:26.14\00:20:29.29 outer garment. Certainly he was a practicing 00:20:29.46\00:20:33.54 Jewish man and he was would have been 00:20:33.58\00:20:35.03 wearing a outer garment and so she wants 00:20:35.10\00:20:38.27 to touch that border and as she touches 00:20:38.30\00:20:40.66 that border, again symbolizing God's love, 00:20:40.89\00:20:44.03 symbolizing God's righteousness, symbolizing 00:20:44.16\00:20:46.48 God's commandments, in other words she's 00:20:46.75\00:20:48.75 repent and she's bowed down before the Lord 00:20:48.78\00:20:50.90 sorry for the sins of her past, but wanting 00:20:50.93\00:20:53.24 to keep the commandments, wanting the God 00:20:53.27\00:20:54.82 to deliver her, to heal her and to touch her 00:20:54.90\00:20:58.04 life and to come into her life, putting her 00:20:58.07\00:21:01.02 life into harmony with him, and as she touches 00:21:01.05\00:21:03.53 that touch of faith touches the border of 00:21:03.56\00:21:06.97 His garment. She is made whole and she's 00:21:07.13\00:21:11.13 healed right then and there. And so that 00:21:11.17\00:21:13.91 number 12 that number of totality we have 00:21:13.94\00:21:15.86 the twelve tribes and the twelve disciples and 00:21:15.89\00:21:20.12 so we have this year's twelve and then 00:21:20.15\00:21:21.70 Jesus goes on and then He heals and raises 00:21:21.88\00:21:23.79 his life that girl who was dead who was 00:21:23.82\00:21:27.19 twelve years old. So we see Jesus wearing this 00:21:27.22\00:21:30.00 garment, and her touching the garment. 00:21:30.09\00:21:32.41 Now this garment that Jesus is wearing is 00:21:32.52\00:21:34.70 mentioned another place in the scriptures, 00:21:34.73\00:21:36.70 but prophetically mentioned back in Psalm 00:21:36.97\00:21:40.43 22, Psalm 22 verse 18, it says that, 00:21:40.54\00:21:45.83 they divided My garments among them, 00:21:46.23\00:21:49.04 and for My clothing they cast lots. 00:21:49.44\00:21:53.04 So there is this prophetic portion that the 00:21:53.97\00:21:57.38 Messiah is going to come in Isaiah 20:22, 00:21:57.41\00:22:00.93 I mean Psalm 22 the very prophetic chapter 00:22:00.96\00:22:02.93 of the Messiah dying, His hands being pierced 00:22:03.18\00:22:05.92 and his feet being pierced and it says they dip, 00:22:06.32\00:22:08.27 they divided His garments among them, 00:22:08.55\00:22:10.70 and for the clothing they cast lots. 00:22:11.12\00:22:12.86 And we see that being fulfilled in Jesus. 00:22:13.33\00:22:16.34 When He's on His way to the cross as 00:22:17.60\00:22:19.64 mentioned in John chapter 19 verses 23 00:22:19.81\00:22:23.54 and 24, it says, and the soldiers, when they 00:22:24.09\00:22:27.88 had crucified Jesus, took His garments and 00:22:27.94\00:22:32.14 made four parts to each soldier a part, 00:22:32.17\00:22:34.84 and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without 00:22:35.60\00:22:40.15 seam, woven from the top in one piece. 00:22:40.21\00:22:44.46 And they said therefore among themselves, 00:22:45.33\00:22:46.61 let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, 00:22:46.82\00:22:49.18 whose it should be that the scripture might 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.11 be fulfilled which says; they divided My 00:22:52.14\00:22:55.37 garments among them, and for My clothing 00:22:55.40\00:22:57.79 they cast lots. And so this tunic again, 00:22:58.18\00:23:02.60 he mentions that tunic, that outer coat His 00:23:02.63\00:23:04.38 garment, which garment of all that he was 00:23:04.41\00:23:06.42 wearing they divide all His clothes up, 00:23:06.45\00:23:08.22 they divide it into four parts, but this one 00:23:08.25\00:23:11.36 garment and it describes the garment, 00:23:11.86\00:23:13.28 it describes the garment as not having any 00:23:13.65\00:23:16.27 seam, the prayer shawls have not, 00:23:16.32\00:23:17.88 don't have any seam, woven from top to 00:23:17.91\00:23:20.19 bottom seamless garment, and something 00:23:20.29\00:23:22.60 of value that they would want to keep, 00:23:22.67\00:23:24.49 that they wouldn't want to just be ripped 00:23:24.55\00:23:26.01 into four pieces and divide up and use His 00:23:26.04\00:23:28.57 rags, but they know it has some value maybe 00:23:28.60\00:23:30.61 they're able to sell it on the market for 00:23:30.75\00:23:32.13 every reason these roman soldiers who want it, 00:23:32.19\00:23:33.92 but they're fulfilling the promise that they, 00:23:34.24\00:23:36.30 the prophecy that they cast lots for His 00:23:36.53\00:23:38.67 garment. It was the prayer shawl that they 00:23:38.76\00:23:41.06 were casting their lots for, that they were 00:23:41.09\00:23:42.92 casting lots for, that they wanted, 00:23:42.95\00:23:44.87 that seamless garment as in fulfillment of 00:23:45.60\00:23:49.23 that Psalms 22 chapter. Now, this prayer 00:23:49.52\00:23:58.06 shawl, this garment, let's look at some text 00:23:58.09\00:24:01.05 regarding it in light of God and how it 00:24:01.08\00:24:03.19 represents God. Psalm 104 verses 1 and 2, 00:24:03.28\00:24:08.29 Bless the Lord, o my soul! O LORD my God, 00:24:09.28\00:24:12.76 you are very great: You are clothed with honor 00:24:13.25\00:24:17.70 and majesty, Who cover yourself with light as 00:24:17.97\00:24:23.16 with a garment. And so God Himself, 00:24:23.58\00:24:27.31 who stretched out to heaven like a curtain. 00:24:27.69\00:24:30.04 So God himself he's clothed in his garment 00:24:30.76\00:24:34.55 of light. He's clothed in majesty and in honor. 00:24:34.74\00:24:38.12 He is very great and He covers Himself with 00:24:38.36\00:24:41.10 a garment of light. Now, if I asked people what 00:24:41.13\00:24:45.43 were Adam and Eve wearing in the Garden 00:24:45.52\00:24:47.53 of Eden, and most people will say well they 00:24:47.56\00:24:49.51 were naked and they weren't wearing 00:24:49.54\00:24:50.74 anything, that's not true they were clothed 00:24:50.77\00:24:53.28 in God's garment of light. The same one 00:24:53.67\00:24:56.58 that he has, the same garment that He is 00:24:56.62\00:24:58.39 covered with that righteousness of light, 00:24:58.48\00:25:00.91 it wasn't until they sinned that they became 00:25:01.22\00:25:03.80 naked and left that garment of righteousness 00:25:03.91\00:25:07.97 and then they had to cover themselves, 00:25:08.32\00:25:10.67 they tried to cover themselves with fig 00:25:11.03\00:25:12.44 leaves and then after they leaved the Garden 00:25:12.47\00:25:15.27 of Eden after they're kicked out of the 00:25:15.30\00:25:16.42 Garden of Eden, God then the scriptures say 00:25:16.45\00:25:18.35 God covers them, clothes them with animal 00:25:18.50\00:25:22.14 skins, where they get these animal skins 00:25:22.29\00:25:24.82 from? They had to sacrifice lambs to receive 00:25:24.85\00:25:29.66 forgiveness and of those same lambs, 00:25:29.69\00:25:31.77 lambs that they have never seen die 00:25:31.82\00:25:33.16 before they themselves had to kill, 00:25:33.19\00:25:34.83 they themselves had to slit their throats and 00:25:34.98\00:25:37.22 then clothed themselves, God clothed them 00:25:37.25\00:25:39.56 with those skins off of that sacrifice, 00:25:39.91\00:25:42.35 off of those lambs. And that's the same thing 00:25:42.38\00:25:45.20 God covers us with Jesus. He covers our 00:25:45.23\00:25:48.57 sinful nakedness with His robe of righteousness, 00:25:48.60\00:25:52.86 he is clothed with light and he wants to 00:25:53.37\00:25:54.78 cover us with light. He is all light, 00:25:54.87\00:25:56.65 He is all purity, He is all righteousness and 00:25:56.73\00:25:59.17 that's what the prayer shawl presents that 00:25:59.20\00:26:00.61 white purity of God's righteousness. 00:26:00.64\00:26:03.34 And then Isaiah chapter 61 verses 3 and 10 00:26:04.41\00:26:08.89 we read, to console those who mourn in Zion, 00:26:09.12\00:26:12.74 to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy 00:26:12.90\00:26:15.87 for mourning, the garment of praise for 00:26:15.90\00:26:18.23 the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called 00:26:18.26\00:26:21.14 Trees of Righteousness, the planting of the 00:26:21.36\00:26:23.81 LORD, that He may be glorified." God wants 00:26:23.84\00:26:28.76 to clothe us with His righteousness with His 00:26:28.79\00:26:31.45 robe of righteousness, He wants to clothe us 00:26:31.52\00:26:34.86 with Jesus, He wants to clothe us with Jesus' 00:26:34.91\00:26:36.62 righteousness, and just as it's mentioned when 00:26:36.67\00:26:38.99 it's mentioned there in the book of Numbers 00:26:39.02\00:26:41.40 about the tassels that we could not deliver 00:26:41.58\00:26:44.81 ourselves that of the Egypt. We can not 00:26:44.84\00:26:46.86 deliver ourselves out of sin, we can not 00:26:46.91\00:26:48.95 deliver ourselves out of our wrong habits, 00:26:48.98\00:26:50.95 it needs to be Jesus, Jesus needs to take 00:26:51.31\00:26:53.14 control of our lives. We need to come under 00:26:53.17\00:26:54.79 His presence, we need to come under His blood 00:26:54.89\00:26:56.91 stained robe, we need to receive His 00:26:57.24\00:26:59.13 forgiveness for our sins, we need to have 00:26:59.20\00:27:00.80 Him transform our hearts, we need to have 00:27:00.88\00:27:02.59 Him live out His commandments in us and 00:27:02.73\00:27:04.35 through us and for us and that symbolism of 00:27:04.38\00:27:06.81 his righteousness his robe covering us and 00:27:06.87\00:27:09.49 that's what He will see in the judgment, 00:27:09.60\00:27:11.59 he won't see us in our deformities, 00:27:11.62\00:27:13.35 but our sins will be forgiven, our record will 00:27:13.38\00:27:15.32 be washed clean and he'll see Jesus' 00:27:15.35\00:27:17.46 robe of righteousness, that robe of light 00:27:17.49\00:27:19.87 covering us and shining through in his Jesus' 00:27:20.85\00:27:23.66 righteousness that sees us through, 00:27:23.76\00:27:25.50 not our own righteousness. We have no 00:27:25.63\00:27:27.14 righteousness of our own, our own 00:27:27.18\00:27:28.97 righteousness is like filthy rag not like a 00:27:29.00\00:27:31.91 holy garment of His righteousness. 00:27:31.96\00:27:34.59 And so as we surrender our own deeds and 00:27:35.09\00:27:37.00 our own actions and our own ways and 00:27:37.03\00:27:38.65 our own thoughts and our own desires 00:27:38.68\00:27:40.76 and surrender them all to Him and allow 00:27:40.95\00:27:43.30 Him to anoint our mind and our heart and 00:27:43.36\00:27:46.03 write His laws in our hearts and in our 00:27:46.19\00:27:47.54 minds and in our actions, He will live 00:27:47.62\00:27:49.54 through us and for His honor and glory will 00:27:49.60\00:27:52.20 be magnified and glorified, God bless you. 00:27:52.23\00:27:55.13
