Welcome to Faith Chapel. 00:00:31.16\00:00:32.48 I'm Christian Berdahl, Director of Shepherd's 00:00:32.91\00:00:35.11 Call Ministry. And before we pray, 00:00:35.19\00:00:36.72 I have a question to ask you. 00:00:36.82\00:00:38.39 Have you ever thought about the fact 00:00:39.03\00:00:41.04 that we could share truth as God's people 00:00:41.24\00:00:44.86 in a way that would actually drive people 00:00:45.79\00:00:48.70 from God? Yes, it's true and we'll explore 00:00:48.99\00:00:53.46 this in just a moment but first, let's pray. 00:00:53.49\00:00:55.98 Father in heaven, Lord, we ask that you 00:00:56.76\00:00:58.41 would be with us as we study; 00:00:58.44\00:01:00.01 we ask that you would send the Holy Spirit 00:01:00.17\00:01:01.92 to anoint our time together. I pray that you 00:01:02.07\00:01:04.53 would help us to thumb through our Bibles 00:01:04.56\00:01:06.71 and to learn new things in Jesus name. Amen. 00:01:06.76\00:01:11.13 Let's go straight to the Bible and what I've 00:01:12.02\00:01:13.46 done is I've combined three of the four gospels 00:01:13.49\00:01:15.83 to give us a quick succession of what 00:01:16.18\00:01:18.56 happened in a room with Mary and Jesus, 00:01:18.59\00:01:23.47 the disciples and others had all surrounded 00:01:23.62\00:01:27.04 an alabaster box. Let's read Matthew 26:6, 00:01:27.11\00:01:31.22 Jesus was in Bethany in the house of Simon 00:01:31.36\00:01:34.64 the leper. John 12:2, there they made him a 00:01:34.80\00:01:38.18 supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was 00:01:38.32\00:01:41.50 one of them that sat at the table with him. 00:01:41.63\00:01:44.27 Luke 7:37, And behold, a woman in the city, 00:01:44.55\00:01:47.25 which was a sinner, when she knew that 00:01:47.37\00:01:49.38 Jesus sat at met in the Pharisee's house, 00:01:49.42\00:01:51.53 brought an alabaster box of ointment. 00:01:51.59\00:01:53.75 John 12:3, Then Mary took a pound of the 00:01:54.17\00:01:56.92 ointment of spikenard, very costly. 00:01:56.95\00:01:59.25 Luke 7:38, And stood at his feet behind 00:01:59.69\00:02:02.33 him weeping, and began to wash his feet 00:02:02.36\00:02:05.02 with her tears, did wipe them with the hairs 00:02:05.07\00:02:07.20 of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed 00:02:07.23\00:02:09.96 them with the ointment. And Mark 14:3 says that 00:02:09.99\00:02:12.64 she also anointed his head as well. 00:02:12.77\00:02:15.15 It sent out ripples that impacted souls in that 00:02:15.81\00:02:22.41 very room. In fact ripples caused that day, 00:02:22.49\00:02:26.08 ripples caused that day have reached all 00:02:26.16\00:02:30.17 the way down the space of time to us. 00:02:30.20\00:02:32.70 Recently I was thinking of an illustration 00:02:33.35\00:02:35.34 regarding ripples that I think most of us have 00:02:35.37\00:02:37.16 heard and that is when, you know you cast 00:02:37.21\00:02:39.45 a stone into a pond that from the point of 00:02:39.48\00:02:43.75 impact in the water will ripple outward until 00:02:43.82\00:02:47.62 it reaches the shores. Friends, every choice 00:02:47.65\00:02:53.44 that we make as Christians or even non-Christians 00:02:54.03\00:02:58.00 causes ripples in our own life and even ripples 00:02:58.22\00:03:02.44 that could affect others. So it's important that 00:03:02.78\00:03:06.23 we interact properly with those around us that 00:03:06.31\00:03:11.02 might be affected by our choices and our actions. 00:03:11.14\00:03:15.26 Now Mary has just opened the alabaster box 00:03:15.51\00:03:18.26 of, and she's anointed Jesus and the ripples 00:03:18.29\00:03:21.53 have already begun to be sent out. 00:03:21.65\00:03:23.89 The ripples from one choice from one act have 00:03:24.15\00:03:27.11 already started. Mary was enjoying complete 00:03:27.14\00:03:30.12 freedom in her heart as she was sharing 00:03:30.18\00:03:32.86 the oil her love with her savior. And she had 00:03:32.98\00:03:36.12 no guilt, no embarrassment because 00:03:36.30\00:03:37.70 she didn't bring a lame offering, she brought 00:03:37.73\00:03:40.33 an offering that was worth an entire of 00:03:40.62\00:03:43.39 year's wage and beyond this she brought 00:03:43.43\00:03:45.59 the offering of her open heart to him. 00:03:45.62\00:03:48.25 The ripple intersects Jesus soul and she seized 00:03:49.01\00:03:53.71 the divine recipient approve of her act and 00:03:53.74\00:03:56.74 then Jesus sends out a positive ripple from 00:03:56.78\00:03:59.27 himself that intersects Mary's soul. 00:03:59.37\00:04:02.86 You see two people already blessed with 00:04:04.02\00:04:07.36 in moments of one act. But the ripples didn't 00:04:07.56\00:04:12.67 stop with just Mary and Jesus, you see as 00:04:12.75\00:04:15.73 they do in our example they continue outward 00:04:15.76\00:04:18.76 until they hit the shore. And they continued 00:04:18.91\00:04:22.59 outward and they intersected Simon, 00:04:22.63\00:04:25.55 the disciples and the guests in the house. 00:04:26.43\00:04:29.74 Let's read John 12:4-6, Then saith one of his 00:04:30.18\00:04:35.43 disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, 00:04:35.47\00:04:37.76 which should betray him, Why was not this 00:04:37.79\00:04:40.24 ointment sold for three hundred pence and 00:04:40.43\00:04:42.75 given to the poor? This he said, not that 00:04:42.78\00:04:47.90 he cared for the poor; but because he was 00:04:47.93\00:04:50.34 a thief, and had the bag, and bare what 00:04:50.37\00:04:53.36 was put therein. Now notice, Jesus' reaction 00:04:53.39\00:04:56.71 was very different from Judas reaction. 00:04:57.57\00:04:59.94 Judas reacted in a negative way, Jesus' of 00:05:00.26\00:05:03.32 course was a positive. So Judas now reacts in 00:05:03.35\00:05:08.79 a negative way and sends out ripples himself 00:05:08.82\00:05:11.25 and these ripples intersects Simon, 00:05:11.51\00:05:14.05 let's read that. Luke, 7:39, Now when the 00:05:14.52\00:05:17.63 Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, 00:05:17.66\00:05:19.76 he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he 00:05:19.91\00:05:23.53 were a prophet, he would have known who and 00:05:23.63\00:05:26.01 what manner of woman this is that 00:05:26.07\00:05:27.62 toucheth him: for she is a sinner. 00:05:27.70\00:05:29.65 You see these negative ripples continued and 00:05:30.12\00:05:33.39 they intersected even the disciples. 00:05:33.42\00:05:35.85 Let's read that in Matthew 26:8 and 9, 00:05:35.95\00:05:39.51 But when the disciples saw it, they had 00:05:39.56\00:05:42.61 indignation, extreme anger mingled with 00:05:42.64\00:05:46.21 disgust or abhorrence, saying, To what 00:05:46.26\00:05:48.53 purpose is this waste? For this ointment 00:05:48.58\00:05:50.99 might have been sold for much and given to 00:05:51.08\00:05:53.49 the poor. Friends, Mary begins to hear these 00:05:53.52\00:05:57.27 words of criticism, she's thinking what's 00:05:57.30\00:05:59.44 happening here Jesus approved of what I 00:05:59.47\00:06:01.71 was doing, what's happening? She was 00:06:01.74\00:06:04.61 about to shrink away friends. She was afraid 00:06:04.64\00:06:08.05 that her sister might think her improvident 00:06:08.10\00:06:11.51 in fact the master might think that this was 00:06:11.62\00:06:14.34 some sort of extravagant gift that may be 00:06:14.38\00:06:16.45 she shouldn't have given, may be she wasn't 00:06:16.57\00:06:18.42 the wise steward here. She was about to 00:06:18.51\00:06:20.51 shrink away without apology. You see, the 00:06:20.61\00:06:25.34 harsh judgmental spirit of the disciples that 00:06:25.44\00:06:29.50 were following popular opinion, notice that 00:06:29.53\00:06:32.16 the disciples were following what Jesus did, 00:06:32.33\00:06:35.02 because Jesus accepted it and returned kindness 00:06:35.06\00:06:38.19 to her. They followed popular opinion in the 00:06:38.22\00:06:41.21 room and what they didn't realized was that 00:06:41.27\00:06:43.57 day were beating down a sister who was 00:06:43.66\00:06:46.63 being led by the Holy Spirit. Amazing, the 00:06:46.73\00:06:51.61 blindness of self- righteousness or following 00:06:51.64\00:06:55.11 popular opinion. Reading on in verse 10, 00:06:56.10\00:06:59.67 When Jesus understood it, He knew what 00:07:00.07\00:07:02.60 was happening, He said unto them, 00:07:02.63\00:07:04.39 why trouble ye the woman? For she hath 00:07:04.49\00:07:06.83 wrought good work upon me. For ye have 00:07:06.86\00:07:09.10 the poor with you always, but me ye not 00:07:09.13\00:07:12.02 have always. For in that she hath poured this 00:07:12.06\00:07:14.79 ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 00:07:14.82\00:07:18.72 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel 00:07:19.42\00:07:21.93 shall be preached in the whole world, 00:07:22.05\00:07:23.58 there shall also this, that this woman done be 00:07:23.93\00:07:27.43 told as a memorial for her. See friends, 00:07:27.56\00:07:30.87 the ripples continued. Simon the host, 00:07:31.19\00:07:36.74 the ripples interested him and Simon the host 00:07:37.96\00:07:40.76 was surprised at the conduct of Jesus and his 00:07:40.79\00:07:44.42 Pharisaic pride was offended. Because Christ 00:07:44.57\00:07:48.84 allowed this woman to approach Him and 00:07:48.87\00:07:51.49 to touch Him because He did not indignantly 00:07:51.52\00:07:54.45 spurn her as one whose sins were just too 00:07:54.55\00:07:58.39 great to be forgiven because he did not show 00:07:58.51\00:08:00.99 that he had realized that she had fallen. 00:08:01.08\00:08:04.28 You see the Pharisee says I know your sins 00:08:04.39\00:08:06.99 and I'm gonna show you your sins. 00:08:07.02\00:08:09.38 Jesus didn't do this. Jesus appeals to the 00:08:10.13\00:08:14.01 heart. You see we can be Pharisees and drive 00:08:14.04\00:08:17.67 people from God the way that we interact 00:08:17.70\00:08:20.30 with them. Friends, I want to encourage you 00:08:20.33\00:08:23.15 to be like Jesus not like Simon. Jesus knows 00:08:23.46\00:08:28.64 nothing of this woman who's so free in 00:08:28.67\00:08:31.05 her demonstrations he thought, or he 00:08:31.08\00:08:33.09 would not allow her to touch him. Luke 18:11 00:08:33.16\00:08:39.23 says, The Pharisee stood and prayed 00:08:39.26\00:08:42.40 within himself, God, I thank thee, that I 00:08:42.48\00:08:46.91 am not as other men, I'm so much better, 00:08:46.94\00:08:50.20 extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as 00:08:50.43\00:08:54.06 this publican. You see the Pharisee's heart 00:08:54.14\00:08:57.33 is blind friends, is blind to his own condition. 00:08:57.41\00:09:01.04 The Pharisee's heart says I must separate 00:09:01.21\00:09:03.00 from these great sinners, I can't associate 00:09:03.03\00:09:05.11 with them, in fact I need to let them know that 00:09:05.14\00:09:07.24 they are terrible sinners. As though the 00:09:07.27\00:09:10.40 Pharisee's heart is pure, as though he could 00:09:10.43\00:09:14.70 actually pick up a stone and cast the first 00:09:14.73\00:09:16.59 one. Friends, we by in large I think many 00:09:16.63\00:09:22.19 times act as Pharisees, act as Simon. 00:09:22.22\00:09:25.07 We don't see as the Bible says, we don't 00:09:25.60\00:09:27.71 see the plank, the telephone poll in our 00:09:27.74\00:09:31.52 own eyes while we can see the little speck 00:09:31.55\00:09:34.54 in our brother's eye. Friends, we have to 00:09:34.78\00:09:39.01 come to a place where we just say Lord 00:09:39.04\00:09:41.27 I don't wanna be the Holy Spirit anymore, 00:09:41.47\00:09:43.31 amen. Let the Holy Spirit do his work and help 00:09:43.54\00:09:46.91 us Father to learn how to love people as 00:09:46.94\00:09:49.72 you have loved them. You see that Pharisee's 00:09:49.83\00:09:52.97 heart was blind, Simon was blind to the new 00:09:53.09\00:09:57.86 heart that Mary had. All he could think about 00:09:57.89\00:10:01.34 was her past, oh Jesus doesn't do this. 00:10:01.37\00:10:03.85 Jesus forgets the past but we sinful beings 00:10:03.88\00:10:06.79 we keep the past alive and I've seen it in 00:10:06.99\00:10:10.02 friends of mine. Where Jesus Christ has really 00:10:10.05\00:10:14.31 given them a new heart like Mary and the 00:10:14.41\00:10:16.76 Pharisees in their lives, the friends or the 00:10:16.81\00:10:18.96 family in their lives won't let their past die 00:10:18.99\00:10:21.77 and they keep bringing it up, friends, 00:10:21.95\00:10:24.38 that's Satanic. That's not the spirit of Jesus 00:10:24.72\00:10:29.87 Christ. We must interact with others the way 00:10:29.94\00:10:34.70 that Jesus did. But it was Simon's ignorance; 00:10:34.73\00:10:41.06 it was Simon's ignorance of God and of Christ 00:10:41.71\00:10:45.26 that lead him to think the way that he did. 00:10:45.31\00:10:47.53 You see he did not realize that God's son 00:10:47.72\00:10:50.67 must act in God's way, amen. You see God's 00:10:51.46\00:10:57.36 way is to act with compassion, is to act 00:10:57.41\00:11:01.35 with tenderness and mercy. So I have a 00:11:01.47\00:11:05.44 question, are you God's child. If we are 00:11:05.52\00:11:10.59 going to profess to be God's children then 00:11:10.62\00:11:13.72 we need to act God's way, amen. 00:11:13.78\00:11:17.37 Praise the Lord. You see the act of kissing; 00:11:18.03\00:11:23.57 of Mary kissing Jesus feet was disgusting 00:11:24.43\00:11:28.66 to the Pharisee. Because spiritual things are 00:11:30.02\00:11:34.53 spiritually discern. And to this unspoken 00:11:34.56\00:11:37.71 thought of Simon saying how could Jesus if 00:11:37.76\00:11:41.26 he was a prophet let this woman touch him 00:11:41.36\00:11:44.06 who is such a sinner Jesus goes through in 00:11:44.11\00:11:46.60 Luke 7:40-50 and we don't have time to 00:11:46.69\00:11:49.63 read that friends but he goes through a 00:11:49.67\00:11:51.38 parable and he teaches Simon. He says 00:11:51.41\00:11:56.26 you know Simon, there was a great debtor, 00:11:56.29\00:12:00.00 and this man had two debtors and one had 00:12:01.13\00:12:04.72 $500 debt the other had a 50 pence debt. 00:12:04.96\00:12:08.55 And what Jesus was doing was he's 00:12:10.51\00:12:12.23 starting to show Simon and trying to convict 00:12:12.26\00:12:14.92 Simon's heart, the one that rejected what 00:12:14.97\00:12:17.63 this beautiful act was, the one that rejected it 00:12:17.66\00:12:20.20 he says no listen Simon, in a parable he 00:12:20.32\00:12:26.23 helped Simon to see that Simon's sin was 00:12:26.26\00:12:31.07 actually greater than that of Mary's. You see 00:12:31.16\00:12:34.99 Simon originally led Mary into sin, amazing. 00:12:35.28\00:12:42.83 Yet the Pharisee thought he was righteous, 00:12:42.98\00:12:45.31 he was the one that lead that very woman 00:12:45.37\00:12:47.32 that he despised into sin. You see Christ 00:12:47.38\00:12:52.67 concealed his home worth trust under the 00:12:52.70\00:12:55.92 veil of a parable. He threw upon his host 00:12:55.99\00:12:59.11 Simon, the burden of pronouncing sentence 00:12:59.18\00:13:01.53 upon himself, Simon had led the woman into 00:13:01.56\00:13:04.63 sin that he now despised and she had been 00:13:04.72\00:13:07.12 deeply wronged by him, the two debtors of 00:13:07.15\00:13:09.70 the parable, Simon was represented and the 00:13:09.73\00:13:13.37 woman was represented because Simon 00:13:13.51\00:13:15.72 felt himself more righteous than Mary. 00:13:15.79\00:13:17.76 Jesus desired Simon to see how great his 00:13:17.90\00:13:20.90 guilt really was, he would show him that his 00:13:20.93\00:13:24.61 sin was greater than hers as much greater a 00:13:24.64\00:13:28.35 debt of 500 pence exceeds that of 50 pence. 00:13:28.38\00:13:31.59 You see what's interesting to me; I want you 00:13:31.67\00:13:33.75 to note Jesus didn't openly rebuke Simon in 00:13:33.78\00:13:37.87 that room. He didn't openly, excuse me 00:13:38.03\00:13:40.72 Simon you are gonna cast something and blame 00:13:40.75\00:13:43.58 upon her saying she is a sinner you are the 00:13:43.64\00:13:45.82 one that led her into sin, Jesus didn't do that. 00:13:45.92\00:13:49.87 He could have given Simon a very straight 00:13:52.04\00:13:56.36 rebuke. Friends, I believe there is a lesson 00:13:56.58\00:13:59.83 here for us, I believe that Christ wants us to 00:13:59.92\00:14:05.27 deal with people even if they're great sinners 00:14:05.50\00:14:09.56 in the way that Jesus did with compassion, 00:14:09.59\00:14:12.47 with tenderness and with mercy, amen, amen. 00:14:12.55\00:14:18.34 You see Christ was seeking an opportunity; 00:14:18.96\00:14:23.16 he took the opportunity of Simon's negative 00:14:23.43\00:14:26.48 reaction to the ripple caused by the alabaster 00:14:26.57\00:14:30.48 box. He took opportunity to try to use, he 00:14:30.54\00:14:36.33 used the situation to try and reach Simon's 00:14:36.37\00:14:40.00 heart. He didn't rebuke him to stick him in his 00:14:40.09\00:14:44.53 place like so many of God's children do today. 00:14:44.56\00:14:47.87 You see Christ was appealing to his heart 00:14:48.63\00:14:51.06 and if he could do this and teach him without 00:14:51.21\00:14:54.48 embarrassment that's what he was going for. 00:14:54.64\00:14:57.70 He wanted Simon to have a new revelation 00:14:58.49\00:15:01.49 about the condition of his own heart to stop 00:15:01.52\00:15:03.92 looking at everyone else tinkering and 00:15:04.01\00:15:06.71 prescribing and meddling as many of God's 00:15:06.88\00:15:10.37 people do today. Friends, we need to be 00:15:10.51\00:15:12.34 asking God, what is it in my life? And stop 00:15:12.38\00:15:17.39 pointing out the sins in others friends. 00:15:17.46\00:15:19.68 Because when we really have that kind of 00:15:20.35\00:15:21.84 walk, you're going to realize that we're 00:15:21.90\00:15:23.86 all sinners and we're all just trying to 00:15:23.93\00:15:26.16 figure out this thing called Christianity. 00:15:26.22\00:15:28.93 You see Christ works with us the same way, 00:15:31.31\00:15:34.99 if he can led us to repentance in a revelation 00:15:35.49\00:15:37.77 about ourselves there is no need for 00:15:37.87\00:15:41.31 embarrassment, there is no need to openly 00:15:41.50\00:15:45.04 rebuke us. You know, God wants to conceal 00:15:45.33\00:15:49.71 our sins, he doesn't want to expose us. 00:15:50.14\00:15:53.38 He wants to conceal them friends and that's 00:15:54.19\00:15:57.42 what will happen with the blood of Christ, 00:15:57.45\00:15:59.25 at the end of time all of my sins can be 00:15:59.39\00:16:02.14 bloated out, he wants to conceal the matter 00:16:02.20\00:16:04.76 but we, we want to expose it, oh well if 00:16:04.99\00:16:07.21 you only knew about this blab, blab, blab. 00:16:07.29\00:16:09.03 But friends no, that is the spirit of anti-Christ, 00:16:09.06\00:16:12.58 that is the spirit of Satan, not the spirit of 00:16:12.61\00:16:15.25 God, that's not how God interacted with Simon. 00:16:15.28\00:16:18.49 Simon as a result of how Jesus shared truth 00:16:18.88\00:16:22.91 with him. You see it's important to share truth, 00:16:22.97\00:16:25.40 amen. And by God's grace when I stand in 00:16:25.48\00:16:27.56 the pulpit I will share truth, but friends it 00:16:27.59\00:16:29.98 must come, it must come off the way that 00:16:30.01\00:16:33.30 Christ would have us do. It must come from 00:16:33.33\00:16:35.21 a converted heart ourselves, because we 00:16:35.24\00:16:37.73 could see truth the wrong way and drive 00:16:37.76\00:16:40.52 somebody from God. I don't want that. 00:16:40.55\00:16:44.96 Would you want to drive someone from God 00:16:45.68\00:16:48.10 with your truth because you're saying it the 00:16:48.18\00:16:49.94 wrong way? No, no, no. Simon now began to 00:16:49.97\00:16:55.81 see himself in a new light, and shame seized 00:16:55.89\00:16:59.37 upon him and he realized that he was in 00:16:59.41\00:17:02.13 the presence of one superior to himself. 00:17:02.16\00:17:05.01 Christ recounted the opportunities that Simon 00:17:05.17\00:17:08.28 had to show his love for his Lord. And plainly 00:17:08.36\00:17:15.81 yet delicately with delicate politeness, 00:17:17.35\00:17:20.75 these are not my own words by the way. 00:17:20.79\00:17:22.34 Plainly, yet with delicate politeness, 00:17:22.38\00:17:25.06 the Savior assured His disciples that His 00:17:25.33\00:17:27.56 heart is grieved when His children neglect 00:17:27.59\00:17:29.54 to show their gratitude to Him by words and 00:17:29.62\00:17:32.28 deeds of love. I'd like to read out of Desire 00:17:32.31\00:17:35.84 of ages page 567, "Simon was touched by the 00:17:35.87\00:17:41.75 kindness of Jesus in not openly rebuking him 00:17:41.96\00:17:46.24 before his guests. He had not been treated as 00:17:46.36\00:17:49.85 he desired Mary to be treated. Here is 00:17:49.88\00:17:53.29 another amazing result from just one act 00:17:53.32\00:17:57.16 of Mary's. Ripples were sent out from her 00:17:57.20\00:18:01.47 that interested Simon and he rejected what 00:18:01.54\00:18:04.71 was happening. But because of Jesus Christ, 00:18:04.74\00:18:08.32 because of the way that he interacted with 00:18:08.97\00:18:12.99 Simon. Simon's heart was beginning to change; 00:18:13.08\00:18:17.00 you see Jesus was allowing the Holy Spirit 00:18:17.18\00:18:20.98 to do his work, amen, amen. And these 00:18:21.40\00:18:26.67 ripples that were sent out, Jesus says I want 00:18:26.76\00:18:29.84 Simon. Let's read on, Simon saw, He saw that 00:18:29.91\00:18:33.46 Jesus did not wish to expose his guilt to 00:18:33.49\00:18:36.20 others, but sought by a true statement, as 00:18:36.25\00:18:39.22 we always must proclaim truth, of the case to 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.98 convince his mind, and by, listen to this word, 00:18:42.07\00:18:44.77 pitying kindness to subdue his heart. 00:18:45.13\00:18:47.74 Stern denunciation would have hardened Simon 00:18:48.13\00:18:51.16 against repentance. And I see it all over 00:18:51.34\00:18:53.60 today, Stern denunciation hardens people 00:18:53.63\00:18:56.62 but patient admonition convinced him of 00:18:56.97\00:19:00.23 his err and he saw the magnitude of the 00:19:00.26\00:19:02.85 debt which he owed his Lord. His pride was 00:19:02.88\00:19:05.45 humbled and he repented, and the proud 00:19:05.48\00:19:08.41 Pharisee became a lowly, self-sacrificing 00:19:08.80\00:19:13.23 disciple. Friends, do you see within moments 00:19:13.72\00:19:18.34 of Mary's unstudied act of anointing Jesus 00:19:18.37\00:19:21.79 and Judas's negative reaction to it, 00:19:21.89\00:19:24.40 but Jesus' positive reaction to it, and Jesus' 00:19:24.50\00:19:26.98 positive reaction in dealing with Simon and 00:19:27.05\00:19:30.12 reaching his heart. You know it was 00:19:30.15\00:19:31.79 important what Jesus said but it was the 00:19:31.82\00:19:33.75 way that Jesus said it that actually made 00:19:33.83\00:19:36.97 the difference for Simon. Did you read that, 00:19:37.00\00:19:39.32 it said that he appreciated the fact 00:19:39.48\00:19:43.13 that he did not openly rebuke him? 00:19:43.42\00:19:46.20 Friends there is a way to share truth, 00:19:47.14\00:19:49.50 there is a way to witness for God and it's 00:19:49.64\00:19:51.80 not filled with humanism, it's not filled with 00:19:51.87\00:19:54.27 self, it's being surrendered as Jesus 00:19:54.39\00:19:56.57 Christ was always to his father to allow the 00:19:56.60\00:19:58.99 Holy Spirit to do the work in the heart. 00:19:59.02\00:20:00.76 Amen, amen. That's right. Each choice, each 00:20:00.85\00:20:04.92 choice we make friends can have an incredible 00:20:05.02\00:20:09.18 impact upon people. And we need to be 00:20:09.21\00:20:12.89 careful of what we say, when we say it and 00:20:12.93\00:20:15.91 how we say it. It's not enough just to go 00:20:15.94\00:20:19.99 out there and share truth and say well either 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.75 you accept it or you don't, it's not gonna 00:20:21.83\00:20:24.03 win souls. When we go forward to the world, 00:20:24.17\00:20:28.26 when we go to our own families, when we 00:20:28.49\00:20:30.56 go to our neighborhoods and our churches and 00:20:30.65\00:20:32.82 we share truth from the love that is God 00:20:32.88\00:20:36.65 then we will win souls, amen, amen. Each choice 00:20:37.02\00:20:43.65 we make friends can either woo people, 00:20:43.70\00:20:47.01 and the way that we interact with them can 00:20:47.63\00:20:49.32 woo them to God or we can push them away 00:20:49.35\00:20:54.40 and they will reject God. Christ wants us 00:20:55.14\00:21:00.09 to come to repentance friends. Not just the 00:21:00.56\00:21:03.78 world out there he wants you, he wants me 00:21:03.88\00:21:07.26 to come to repentance and if he can do 00:21:07.87\00:21:10.19 that without exposing us without embarrassing 00:21:10.25\00:21:13.33 us without openly rebuking us, He is going 00:21:13.37\00:21:16.78 to. Because it's never a fun thing to be 00:21:16.82\00:21:20.34 embarrassed in front of people, right? 00:21:20.37\00:21:22.26 So why don't we do with each other. 00:21:23.11\00:21:24.83 You know the true religion of God, when we 00:21:26.63\00:21:29.82 embrace Christianity for what it truly is, 00:21:29.91\00:21:32.24 the true religion of God sets us free from 00:21:32.73\00:21:35.77 guilt. The true religion of God is not a 00:21:35.99\00:21:40.69 religion based on guilt but total freedom from 00:21:40.72\00:21:44.28 it. Hallelujah. That just fires me up 'cause I 00:21:44.31\00:21:48.43 had lots of guilt in my life and my past. 00:21:48.49\00:21:50.87 Because I wasn't raised in a church, 00:21:51.47\00:21:53.02 I was a worldly guy engaging in everything. 00:21:53.23\00:21:55.32 I had lots of guilt, but Jesus set me free from 00:21:55.93\00:21:58.78 that friends. And you know what you, 00:21:58.88\00:22:01.26 if I stay faithful will never know about the 00:22:01.30\00:22:03.85 sins I have committed in my past because 00:22:03.94\00:22:05.86 God's gonna bloat it out with his blood, amen, 00:22:05.99\00:22:08.35 amen. You know I doubt that Mary would 00:22:08.94\00:22:13.57 have ever thought that by pouring this 00:22:13.60\00:22:15.95 alabaster box, the ointment upon her savior 00:22:16.21\00:22:20.63 that it would led to the salvation of the very 00:22:21.09\00:22:24.67 man that first wronged her, incredible. 00:22:24.70\00:22:28.53 That's awesome to me. I mean God put it all 00:22:28.77\00:22:32.21 together that they would be in that room 00:22:32.24\00:22:33.76 and Jesus had the right words being led by 00:22:33.99\00:22:35.94 the Holy Spirit to say what he did and it 00:22:35.97\00:22:38.59 convinced the very offender against Mary and 00:22:38.63\00:22:41.94 he became a lowly sacrificing disciple. 00:22:41.97\00:22:46.03 He became a Christian; oh he had the garbs 00:22:46.24\00:22:49.62 of religion for years. But he became a Christian. 00:22:49.65\00:22:53.54 Now, I know it's not beyond the possibility for 00:22:57.78\00:23:01.30 us to make bad choices and when we make 00:23:01.35\00:23:04.88 bad choices we are held responsible for those 00:23:05.00\00:23:09.09 bad choices friends. But Mary didn't make a 00:23:09.12\00:23:12.09 bad choice, she made the right choice and 00:23:12.12\00:23:14.48 when we make right choices, we leave the 00:23:14.51\00:23:17.39 results with God. Have you ever realized though, 00:23:17.53\00:23:22.03 that by making a right choice evil can come 00:23:22.45\00:23:26.83 from it? Yeah. Not just a hardened heart, 00:23:26.90\00:23:30.90 but actual evil can come from even a right 00:23:30.94\00:23:34.38 choice. Judas looked on this act with great 00:23:34.71\00:23:39.84 displeasure, instead of waiting to hear what 00:23:39.96\00:23:42.08 Christ would say of the matter, he began to 00:23:42.11\00:23:45.10 whisper his complaints to those near him and 00:23:45.13\00:23:48.00 throwing reproach upon Christ for suffering 00:23:48.08\00:23:50.74 such ways. What a sharp lesson too, Christ 00:23:50.78\00:23:54.06 could have given to Judas who had dropped 00:23:54.09\00:23:57.16 the seeds of criticism and evil thinking into the 00:23:57.19\00:23:59.59 minds of the disciples. You see Judas is the one 00:23:59.69\00:24:01.87 that started all the junk. How justly the 00:24:01.90\00:24:05.05 accuser might have been accused. He, who 00:24:05.16\00:24:08.89 reads the motives of every heart Christ and 00:24:08.95\00:24:11.07 understands every action, might have opened 00:24:11.14\00:24:13.20 before those at the feast dark chapters in the 00:24:13.23\00:24:17.75 experience of Judas. But the savior rebuked 00:24:17.78\00:24:21.82 him openly. No that's what happened, 00:24:21.86\00:24:24.74 the savior rebuked him not even the man that 00:24:25.90\00:24:33.15 was going to go and betray him, he rebuked 00:24:33.18\00:24:36.27 not friends. Amazing. Jesus Christ had perfect 00:24:36.30\00:24:42.86 control over his tongue at all times. 00:24:43.01\00:24:46.88 If self one little ounce of self would have 00:24:47.31\00:24:49.65 risen up in Jesus even to defend Mary. 00:24:49.73\00:24:53.24 He would have rebuked him. Well that's 00:24:54.98\00:24:57.17 what we do. Well no, you're not gonna talk 00:24:57.20\00:24:59.59 to her that way and just lay him out, but no, 00:24:59.62\00:25:03.48 that's not what my savior did. He reproached 00:25:03.92\00:25:06.69 him not, rebuked him not. Matthew 26:14, 00:25:06.97\00:25:14.03 Then one of the twelve, called Judas 00:25:14.90\00:25:16.70 Iscariot, went unto the chief priests and said 00:25:16.83\00:25:19.95 unto them, what will ye give me and I will 00:25:19.98\00:25:23.36 deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with 00:25:23.39\00:25:27.07 him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that 00:25:27.10\00:25:30.02 time on he sought opportunity to betray him. 00:25:30.05\00:25:34.00 Why did he do this? Because he had a 00:25:34.17\00:25:37.27 hardened heart, he saw what was going on and 00:25:37.34\00:25:39.78 when Jesus said why trouble you the woman, 00:25:39.83\00:25:43.01 do you realize that because Judas was the 00:25:43.23\00:25:45.85 one that said what's going on, why all this 00:25:45.88\00:25:48.21 waste. And Jesus said why you trouble the 00:25:48.24\00:25:50.31 woman. She's done a good work. That was 00:25:50.36\00:25:53.23 enough of a rebuke, how simple. That was 00:25:53.29\00:25:55.82 enough of a rebuke to Judas that he 00:25:55.85\00:25:59.79 decided Christ must die. You see the ripples 00:25:59.90\00:26:08.10 that were caused from that one simple act 00:26:08.13\00:26:11.21 have been felt all the way down to our day. 00:26:11.37\00:26:14.65 Oh Mary, did the right thing, didn't she. 00:26:15.06\00:26:17.49 But would Mary have ever thought that her 00:26:18.06\00:26:20.52 one beautiful act would have sealed Judas and 00:26:20.55\00:26:23.55 his decision I must have him killed. 00:26:23.62\00:26:26.24 She would have never thought that. 00:26:27.02\00:26:28.67 Friends, was it Mary's fault? No, is it our fault 00:26:29.69\00:26:33.25 if people react evil for our good? No. 00:26:33.34\00:26:36.89 It's not our fault and it wasn't Mary's 00:26:37.89\00:26:39.87 fault, it was Judas fault friends. And Judas 00:26:39.90\00:26:43.27 had to own that. And friends it's amazing to 00:26:43.43\00:26:46.52 me what happened shortly thereafter, 00:26:46.55\00:26:48.76 the ripple that Judas sent out from that one 00:26:48.81\00:26:50.99 decision to betray his savior took the life 00:26:51.05\00:26:53.79 of Jesus Christ. And the disciples felt it, 00:26:54.31\00:26:59.47 Mary felt it and we can feel it all the way 00:27:00.11\00:27:02.48 down to today and friends Jesus, the stone 00:27:02.51\00:27:06.67 decided to be cast into this pond of earth. 00:27:07.45\00:27:10.19 He decided to be cast here and the ripples have 00:27:10.23\00:27:13.05 gone out for eternity and they will continue 00:27:13.08\00:27:15.57 and friends, I wanna ask you this question, 00:27:15.74\00:27:17.35 have the ripples intersected your heart. 00:27:17.52\00:27:19.14 They've interested mine and I said Lord 00:27:19.49\00:27:21.18 please help me to react to people the way 00:27:21.21\00:27:23.44 that you want me to, help me to be a Christian, 00:27:23.55\00:27:25.87 help me to be a life unto life, not death unto 00:27:26.11\00:27:29.64 death with my words. Help me to look upon 00:27:29.67\00:27:32.80 people as you do. Jesus chose to be cast 00:27:32.83\00:27:37.39 into this world and cause ripples that 00:27:37.82\00:27:40.40 can save you and me, praise God. 00:27:40.53\00:27:43.77
