I would like to share with you
a favorite story of mine today.

Its a story that happened in
1995 while flying a mission over

Bosnia, Captain Scott O'Grady,
in his F16, was blown in half by
00:00:48.68\00:00:55.76
a surface to air missile.
00:00:55.79\00:00:56.78
The wing man watched as the
airplane was in a ball of flames
00:00:56.81\00:01:01.30
He flew off marking
the coordinates so he could
00:01:01.33\00:01:04.48
call for help.
00:01:04.49\00:01:05.63
He didn't even see if a
parachute had managed to survive
00:01:07.37\00:01:11.43
Well, it did.
00:01:11.46\00:01:13.47
And history reveals that Captain
Scott O'Grady did indeed eject
00:01:13.50\00:01:17.50
from his F16 fighter
plane, and land in Bosnia.
00:01:17.53\00:01:22.46
He also took a supplies,
flares, a walky-talky, a little
00:01:23.48\00:01:28.96
fresh food and water, and began
to make his way away from the
00:01:28.99\00:01:32.71
wreckage, for he knew
that even before he landed
00:01:32.74\00:01:37.21
the enemy was after him.
00:01:37.45\00:01:39.54
Well, Captain Grady was on
his own, he was fighting for his
00:01:40.47\00:01:43.37
life, at times he reports that
the soldiers that were looking
00:01:43.40\00:01:46.94
after him were so close that
he could read made in China on
00:01:46.97\00:01:54.34
the back of their boots.
00:01:54.37\00:01:55.80
He almost quite breathing.
Tried to get his heart to stop.

But if he only knew what was
going on in his behalf to save

his life.

We'll go into that in a few
moments but I'd like us to first

understand that we too
are in foreign territory.

We should be able to understand
how Captain O'Grady felt for sin

has separated us
from the love of God.

And we too need
rescue by our loving savior.

We must make seeking God our
main priority and if we seek Him

we will find Him.

lets read that together.

You and I must call upon God.

Captain O'Grady, sitting in
enemy territory, pulled out the

radio and called for help as
often as he could but his radio

had such limited capacity
that it wasn't until they made a

fly over that he made contact.
00:03:43.16\00:03:45.68
America was glad that he was
alive but he would only be heard
00:03:47.08\00:03:51.81
at a small window of time.
Aren't you so glad that you and

I serve a loving God who we do
not have to worship in a limited

amount of time but we
can call upon him in our very
00:04:00.26\00:04:02.89
hour of need.

We cannot help ourselves.

If Scott O'Grady could have
understood that the world was

wishing him well, he might
have felt better than he did.

But he was on his
own in enemy territory.

There was nothing that
he could do to save himself.

But you and I should understand
that very well because we tend

to fool our selves
into believing that we

can help ourselves.

But we must realize that God's
way is ultimately better and go

to him in prayer and
to call upon his name.

We must also call for the help
as captain O'Grady did when his

water ran out, when his food
ran dry he had to forage for

food and water the very life
blood that he needed, each time

he prayed it rained.

It's time that you and I
go to the Lord in prayer.

Time to ask God to meet the very
needs that He knows that we have

You and I need to seek after God
As Captain O'Grady once said,

"My relationship with Jesus
Christ was never better than

when I was on the
ground as a fugitive. "

He was in a foreign land totally
dependant upon outside help.

Nothing that he
could do to save himself.

You and I are totally dependant
on outside help only God can

help us and all to often we
fool ourselves in to believing

that we can help ourselves.

Rescue plans
are underway for us.

From the White House, to the
Pentagon, there were many plans

underway to save Scott O'Grady.

He didn't know it at the time.

He would have
felt better if he had.

If he could have only
seen the forces that were

coming to save him.

You and I need to
see what God sees for us.

We need to be able to see the
forces that are an our behalf

working to rescue
us from planet Earth.

One thing that Scott O'Grady
understood was that priorities

tend to change depending
upon the circumstances.

I can imagine they did for him.

All of a sudden his
visa bill didn't make much
00:06:31.55\00:06:33.52
difference any more.

Didn't matter that the car
was going to need some repair or

whatever the cares of this
earthly life were they came
00:06:37.67\00:06:40.69
secondary to what he was facing.

The imminent loss of his life.
00:06:45.55\00:06:51.41
the business of this
life wasn't on his mind.

Salvation and
rescue was on his mind.

And every waking moment of his
life he spent trying to figure
00:06:58.42\00:07:04.60
out how best to be saved.

I wonder if we could
get a challenge from this
00:07:09.21\00:07:12.72
understanding of life that
sometimes we get to caught up in
00:07:12.75\00:07:17.74
the busyness of this life we
really don't understand that we
00:07:17.77\00:07:22.06
don't have as much control as
we claim to have over our life.
00:07:22.09\00:07:26.08
But as we read a few moments ago
in our text God tells us if we
00:07:26.11\00:07:30.70
seek him, we will find him.
00:07:30.73\00:07:34.88
But we must search for
Him with all our heart.

Well, if we find God,
He will definitely save us.
00:07:40.74\00:07:47.15
For God is in the saving
business and He wants more than
00:07:47.18\00:07:50.26
anything else to have
you and I reunited and saved

to His kingdom.

If Captain Scott O'Grady
understood one thing it would be

the mighty forces
that were at work.

There were over forty
aircraft involved in his rescue.

From those airplanes that
fly radar over above to the

submarines, to the air force and
marines, they were all involved.

This was a
multi-national rescue mission.

Wow. If we understood that the
rescue mission that God has for
00:08:25.65\00:08:29.98
us is multi-national and
there's far more at stake than

then just our lives.

Eternity is at
stake today and every day.

Well there were literally
thousands of people that dealt
00:08:45.08\00:08:50.04
in this rescue, from
Washington, round the world, the
00:08:50.07\00:08:55.92
operations were pin point.

He was told how often to radio
in and at certain intervals
00:08:58.47\00:09:02.71
he would call and they would
give him coordinates that he
00:09:02.74\00:09:05.58
would mark on his map.

And I can understand, if you
would play along with me for a

moment that he probably
didn't take those coordinates

very seriously.

He probably took the map, put a
dot where he was supposed to be,

and laid back up
against a tree and took a nap.

Maybe he didn't worry about it
very much but then again you and

I know very differently.

If salvation and rescue was
truly on his mind than he took

this very seriously and I would
imagine if you and I met Captain

Scott O'Grady today, he would
be able to draw out that map

with great and exact detail.

Why? Because he
wanted to be saved.

And he knew that the only
chance of being rescued from the

enemies territory was to
be where and when he was told

to be there.

I'm sure that over the course
of the next few hours that he

continually went back to the
map taking out his compass and

taking great care to
insure that he would be where he

needed to be.

Excitement, adrenaline
rushed through his body.

He probably could have arrived
at the place of rescue much
00:10:21.36\00:10:26.01
earlier but he knew that
would put him at greater risk.

He had to take his
time, he had to be deliberate.

And we, my friend, need to be
very deliberate in our rescue.

We have been told in God's word
where we are to be and how we

are to get there.

But only by taking great care
and understanding our Lord and
00:10:46.38\00:10:51.89
Savior will we understand
where he calls us to be,

to be rescued.

Well, Captain
Scott O'Grady made it.

He made it to the
coordinates on the map.

Checking his watch,
he was right on time.

And the place was quiet.

Had he missed rescue?

Had he been to early?
Were the coordinates wrong?

Well my friend, he did not have
to wonder for just a few moments

because all of a sudden he
heard a sound, a sound that was

familiar to him as airplanes,
helicopters, and marines

came over the hill.

The rescuers
coming to rescue him.

He reported that he made his way
as far as he could to them and

he collapsed in their arms.

They took him, they put him
aboard a helicopter and they

took him home.

What a rescue story. What
a story for each one of us.

Because Jesus, our
friend and divine rescuer, has

given us a plan.

thoughts that I
have towards you. "

Oh my friend, Jesus'
thoughts toward us are thoughts

of genuine love.

His thoughts towards us are
to save us and to bring us home.

He say "Thoughts of
peace not thoughts of evil. "

There are those in the world
today that proclaim God has evil

thoughts towards us.

Oh, I'm so glad that the
bible tells us differently.

He does not have thoughts of
evil, there thoughts of peace.

The Bible tells us that we when
we are in that relationship with

Jesus Christ, can have peace
that passes all understanding.

And in a world full of
turmoil that we live in today

isn't it nice to know
that peace is available.

Well not only did the priorities
have to change, not only did a

rescue plan have to be invented
but God, in order to initiate

the rescue plan, sent His
son, Jesus to die on the cross.

That was the price paid.

Nobody asked how much it
cost to save Scott O'Grady.

Nobody said the
government wasted their money.

Or any of the
multi-national efforts.

Nobody wondered the cost.

My friend, we as
Christians count on the cost.

The cost of the shed
blood of Jesus Christ.

He goes on to tell us that not
only does He have thoughts of

peace toward us but that
he wants to give us hope.

Hope in a hopeless world
my friend is exactly what

you and I need.

Jesus tells us in verse twelve
"Then you will call upon me, you

will pray to me, and
I will listen to you.

I don't know about you but there
are many people that I talk to

in life that I wonder if their
actually listening and to be

honest, there's a few people
who talk with me who probably

wonder if I'm listening.

But you and I do not need to
wonder for one moment if Jesus

Christ is listening to us.

He has promised to
hear us when we pray.

The Bible then tells us that if
we seek Him, He says "You will

find me when you search
for me with all you heart.

My friend there's a secret
right there. There's a secret.

Are you and I search Him
with every fiber of our being?

All to often the answer is no.

All to often we're searching for
him when its time for church.

We're searching for Him
when things are going rough.

Jesus always thinks about me.

that we will be found by Him

haven't thought of it this way

earth we're bound captive by

Satan and sin.

No matter how hard I try to
be perfect I can't be perfect.

continue to get in trouble.

God is not calling me to try.

call upon Him and rely totally

sat in Bosnia underneath trees

the very ground for food.

He knew that there was
nothing that he could do.

There is nothing that he
could say, there was nothing he

believe that would remove
him from the land of the enemy,

save a relationship with his
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As I said already it was during
the time of his captivity that

he said never has been
my relationship with God

My friend, it was not because
he was in enemy territory its

because he knew he was in the
enemies territory and he had no

hope in himself and he
had to rely fully and wholly

upon Jesus Christ.

You and I need to
learn that secret.

Reliance, total and complete
surrender to Jesus Christ.

I know the thoughts that I think
towards you, thoughts of peace

not of evil. To Give you a
future and to give you hope.

your future here on earth?

before you and I were even born.

He's had His eyes on me.

And God wants a divine
homecoming very very soon.

And as Captain Scott O'Grady
understood, his priorities

and mine need to change.

We need to lift our eyes from
the things of this earth and

we study the pages of scripture
