interesting one its called the

giving of the Holy Spirit.
There's many teachings about the

Holy Spirit and there's a lot
of good insights about the Holy

Spirit, His work, and what
He does. But I'd like to first

turn to a scripture to introduce
the topic and ask a question

that played me for a long time.
At this time lets turn to the

gospel of Matthew 3:11

Now what is amazing about this
verse is John, of course this is

John the Baptist making the
announcement of the work of the

Messiah. He talks about that
this Messiah will be the one who

baptize us in the Holy Spirit
but the Holy Spirit has been

active since the creation of
the world. Every time God speaks

the Holy Spirit works also
in the Old Testament the Holy

Spirit was very involved with
humanity and all the affairs of

humanity. The Holy
Spirit enlightened, inspired,

instructed, and basically had
a very active ministry before

Jesus came. The prophets
were totally dependant on the

Holy Spirit for the
inspiration they received.

And so the question begs to
be asked what is the significant

of here in Matt. 3:11 that
He will come and baptize in the

Holy Spirit. Was not the
Holy Spirit always here with us

doing mighty
works and performing

miracles and indeed He was.

There's a key text that
might help explain and give an

answer to this question. Its
found in the gospel of John 7.

Now again the comment is made
for the Holy Spirit was not yet

given. We need to understand
a few things about these verses

where the Holy Spirit is going

heart, other translations says

inner being is not the human

its our thinking, our emotions

our will, out personality, but
this inner being is our human

spirit. Its much deeper
than the soul. It is the place

where the Holy Spirit when
He comes to dwell within dwells

and operates within us. This
can be compared to the most Holy

place of that sanctuary that the
Jews built to worship the God

of heaven. So the first thing
Jesus tells here is that the

Holy Spirit is to operate
and flow from our human spirit.

The second thing it says that
only those who believe in Him

will be receiving Him.
Only those who have come to know

and believe in the revelation
God has giving concerning

is only then that they who are

indwelling of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit comes
and operates deep from within

our human spirit and begins
the work of restoration and

The next thing is that

is a supplied word. Actually
it may just read for the Holy

Spirit was not yet. Not
yet what? The supplied word is

given. Could it be not yet ready
not yet prepared? We don't know.

but for whatever reason at that
time when John was talking about

Jesus walking on the earth. Its
stated by Christ himself that

the Holy Spirit was not
yet given and then next, last

is that the Holy Spirit is
the personal representation of

Christ will be rivers of living
water flowing out from within.

It also says that He's not
yet given and this is the key

because Jesus was not yet
glorified so there was something

out pouring of the Spirit.

that Christ needed first to be

This brings us to a very
interesting point and its going

When Christ was raised from the

back to heaven He came back

is a glorified humanity that has

defeated Satan, has accomplished

all righteousness, has
faithfully declared the truth

and the character of God and
now has been fully redeemed and

right hand of God representing

says here in the gospel of John

the Holy Spirit needed in order

called the rebirth experience.

What was the condition of our
spirit before Jesus entered into

spirit basically was in darkness

It was imprisoned. It was
filled with guilt and it was not

functioning the way God
originally intended the spirit

of man to function. It is the
spirit of man from which man was

from the spirit of man that man

was supposed to reflect God.
It was from the spirit of man

would influence his soul,
his thinking, his emotions as

and cause man through the soul

a godliness fully fitting man

creation and that is to reflect

Lets turn to the Old testament

Notice what it says in the
very beginning it says that God

would first give us a new heart
another scripture says I will

put a new spirit within you.
This new spirit is not the Holy

Spirit it is a new human spirit.
What new human spirit would God

be able to give us? It
was not available until the

glorification of Jesus. In
Jesus Christ our humanity was

completely restored. In
Jesus Christ humanity has been

obedient and has kept the
commandments of God and in Jesus

Christ is His new creation and
so when the Holy Spirit comes

and by faith we come to believe
the gospel and our hearts

are prepared to receive the
Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit

reborn as it were the human
spirit by being and giving it

the human spirit of Jesus
Christ Himself. A spirit that is

obedient to God, longs to

when I was first converted.

All this rebellion and anger and
these things that really defined

now totally disgusted with it.

I wanted to please God, I
wanted to be obedient, I wanted

to be like Jesus. Where do
those new feelings come from?

Its because the Holy Spirit
restored my human spirit in the

likeness of the spirit of Jesus
Christ and prepared my human

spirit now to function
and to do everything that God

originally created it to do.
To worship Him, to respond to

Him, to love Him. And
this is exactly what happens

in the new birth experience.
John talks about the Holy Spirit

in His discussion recounting
the discussion Jesus had with

Nicodemus. Remember what
He said? He says that which is

of flesh begats flesh but that
which is of spirit begats what?

Spirit. A new human spirit
according to Ezekiel God will

put within us a human
spirit that has been crafted and

recreated according to the human
spirit of Jesus. This is what

the Holy Spirit brings into us.
This is the gift that He brings

and puts within us. He prepares
the human spirit for His own

habitation because in the second
part of the prophecy than as

and then I will put My spirit
within you to dwell in you.

And what does this Holy Spirit
now the spirit of Christ Himself

do operating from our spirit?
He starts working on our soul.

Changing our mind transforming
our personality, new thoughts

surface and arise out of the

operating from our human spirit

sanctifying us back into the

us the rebirth to begin with.

Holy Spirit working in the heart

the miracle of transformation

in our hearts was promised

new ways and to cause us to walk

go. It says in the New Testament

that Jesus is the author and the
finisher of our faith. It says

that He is the one that will
create in us a willingness to

do and also to do that which
is pleasing to God. This is a

miracle. This is
exactly what we as people need.

We need to understand that
this process begins because God

gave us a gift of the Holy
Spirit. The giving of the Holy

Spirit is exactly that. It
is something that was given.

Not something that is earned and
the only prerequisite that God

requires is the we behold
the Son of God. We behold Jesus

exact representation of God's

kindness and humility and the

Holy Spirit then allows our
hearts to be prepared to receive

Christ alone. This is what the

Holy Spirit was waiting for.
Before He could be given He was

waiting for a human life that
He could offer. A human life

that already has been obedient
and fully restored to God.

This is the precious gift of the
Holy Spirit and this is what He

the very promise given to us in

comes within a human heart

to fulfill the requirements of

the law. There's no other moral
law God has to give but the one

that He gave on Sinai,
imagine thoughts ten wonderful

principles now being worked in
our heart by a power that is far

above us. That gives me comfort
to know that this was God's

passion from the very beginning
to enter my life to share

Himself with me To become
intimate with me and have a
relationship with me.

and then through a work
that only He knows how to do

To work within me the principles
of His kingdom the very

principles of God Himself this
is a mystery that only the Holy

Spirit understands but as
the Holy Spirit offers this work

and does this work He also
is empowered to solicit the

cooperation of our will, of our
attention, and our ways. It is

the Holy Spirit that prompts
us to be connected to Jesus

It is the Holy Spirit that
prompts us to cultivate a prayer

life. It is the Holy Spirit that
prompts us to speak in behalf of

God and to live a life
that gives glory to God.

oh brothers and sisters this
work of the Holy Spirit is just

far more comprehensive then
something we've ever imagined.

I remember time when in my flesh
nature there are things I wanted

a direction I wanted to do
and boy I was head bent on just

doing exactly those things
but praise be to His name God is

faithful and would not let me
go He comes into my life and He

speaks to me in humility
and gentleness and He offers me

a better way. He asks me
questions that are so simple

and gentle and yet strike to the
heart of the very thing that I

should not do. Questions like
Would you be better if you went

through with this? How
would that change things?

And I would just have to stop
and think and say oh Lord Your

right. This is the work of the
Holy Spirit. This is the work

that He offers to every believer
as He enters our hearts and I

just praise the living God that
every day the Holy Spirit is

there to again renew us to
draw us into the worship of God.

To solicit from our souls
and revive us so that we truly

not out of compulsion or because

recognizes. He recognized our

of a man and a woman was to

so that not only we can know Him

like Him. This is a beautiful

miracle and a miracle that can
happen every day of our life.

I just thank God for the
blessing of Jesus Christ and the

giving of the Holy Spirit. The
Holy Spirit continues to work

as the church come to the
consummation of her history.

At the second coming of Jesus
Christ the Holy Spirit sustains

the saints of the living God and
seals them in the truth of God's

with the goodness and the love

that we are not to walk in

the flesh. The Holy Spirit bids
us to come and walk with Him.

And then empowers us as our
minds turn away from the flesh

and then turned towards God and
wait before Him as a grateful

servant. This is what Jesus has
done to my heart, this is the

difference He has made in my
life. My flesh I see in so much

of a different light then I
have in the past. I see self as

the enemy and not a comfort
and a friend. This can only have

been done because of what Jesus
has done within me. This is

something I could not and never
can manufacture of my self.

The Holy Spirit not only calls
us and offers now a new life

reservoir of the streams of

the living water that Jesus
Himself said flow out of our

inner being for those who
are baptized in the Holy Spirit.

He empowers our natural
human faculties to now be in the

solicits our will and transforms

it by His love and persuades
us to exercise the will to turn

and to offer ourselves as a

living sacrifice. This is
something before the Holy Spirit

couldn't do I didn't even want

to do. He is faithful, He saw
the cry of my heart the cry I

was not even aware of when I was
in my sin and He was determined

to brake through the hardness of

with a heart of flesh. And this
is the work that God will do for

all of those who call upon
His name. I would like for you

promise of the Holy Spirit.

the very life of Jesus Christ

is the mind that the Holy Spirit

now has to bring to us and
to work within us. Brothers and

sisters lets us always remember
that God did not send His Son

into the world die for our
sins and be risen from the dead

simply to forgive us.
Forgiveness is a wonderful gift

without it which we would
not ever be ready to receive the

greatest gift of heaven that
is the Holy Spirit. But brothers

and sisters forgiveness without
the restoration is empty.

of being forgiven, confessing

us. He has a life of victory

the life He has put within us.

believer to recognize that the

of Christ within. As Christ

glory in the heavens so the Holy

Spirit representing Him
ministers to the human heart

within every believer. And
so the Holy Spirit is fully

prepared to do the work that God
had planned Him to do from the
