impression upon my mind

snowflake and I see that

there is a very
important object lesson

that we can learn
from the snowflake.

You know the
snowflake in and of itself

is very beautiful.

It's a
beautiful creation of God,

but the
snowflake in and of itself

doesn't really make that
much of an impact on a city.

If one snowflake were to fall

it wouldn't really
make that much impact,

but friends when
snowflake upon snowflake

upon snowflake fall upon a city,

there's an impact that is made

and may be some
of you live in a city

where the snow has fallen

and its made a
powerful impact upon your city

remember it from generation

from time upon
time from year to year

you remember that particular
snowfall that took place

that knocked the power out
of whatever it did to your city.

time and you know what, friends,

ourselves as snowflakes,

each one of us
of God's children.

I think of ourselves
as individual snowflakes

and you know in and of ourselves

we can make a
difference in the world

just on our own we
can make a difference.

But I think to
myself as snowflakes

how much more of
a powerful impact

we can make on the world,
if we have a snowflake unity.

The Bible tells us that
it's a good and pleasant thing,

it's a beautiful
thing for brethren

to dwell together in unity.

For us to bond
together, to come together,

to pull together
and to be unified

under Jesus to have
that snowflake unity.

looking for a group of people

to you of the word unity

it says, "Unity is a

but separate from
ever other thing."

It's something
that's undivided itself,

it's not
separated in and of itself

but it's separated

God is wanting a group of people

separated amongst themselves,

themselves but they are --

the things in this world.

They do not have anything to do

with the sinful
pleasures in this world.

They pull together, they
are unified amongst themselves

but they are separated

That's what God is looking for

amongst His people.

What I want to do today

is I want to take a look
at two stories from the Bible

and I want to look at
a scenario of disunity
00:05:06.48\00:05:09.00
amongst some of God's people.

And then I want to look
at another scenario of unity
00:05:11.28\00:05:13.49
amongst God's people.
00:05:13.52\00:05:14.76
And I want to look at
these two scenarios and see

what we can learn
about these two stories
00:05:17.47\00:05:20.61
and how it made an
impact on their life.

Let's begin in Mark Chapter 9
00:05:23.33\00:05:25.02
and we are gonna
begin reading in verse 30.
00:05:25.05\00:05:26.95
The Bible says this,
"And they departed thence,
00:05:26.98\00:05:29.57
and passed through Galilee;
00:05:29.60\00:05:31.27
and he would not that
any man should know it.
00:05:31.30\00:05:34.36
For he taught his
disciples, and said unto them"
00:05:34.39\00:05:36.98
listen to what Jesus is
gonna teach his disciples.
00:05:37.01\00:05:39.06
"The Son of man is
delivered into the hands of men,
00:05:39.09\00:05:42.61
and they shall kill him;
and after that he is killed,
00:05:42.64\00:05:46.38
he shall rise the third day.
00:05:46.41\00:05:48.28
But they
understood not that saying,

and were afraid to ask him."

Now, the question that
I ask myself is why is it

that the disciples did
not understand this lesson
00:05:59.39\00:06:01.97
that God was
trying to teach them.

That Jesus was
trying to teach them.
00:06:03.24\00:06:04.75
They are
traveling along the way,
00:06:04.78\00:06:06.19
He is teaching them
a lesson that one day
00:06:06.22\00:06:08.04
that He will be
betrayed into the hands of men,
00:06:08.07\00:06:10.31
that He would be killed,
that He would be crucified.
00:06:10.34\00:06:12.89
Now, is this an important lesson
00:06:12.92\00:06:14.47
for the
disciples to learn or not.
00:06:14.50\00:06:16.16
I believe that it's a
very important lesson that
00:06:16.19\00:06:18.21
they were-- that
they needed to learn
00:06:18.24\00:06:19.99
that soon Jesus
would be crucified,
00:06:20.02\00:06:22.11
that their
Master, their Messiah,
00:06:22.14\00:06:24.06
the one that they
were following around
00:06:24.09\00:06:25.66
would soon one day be crucified.

It's a very important
lesson but the Bible says

that they understood it not.

Now, the question that
I ask myself right away,

immediately the
question that I ask myself is

why didn't they
understand this lesson?

Why was it that they did
not understand the lesson

that Jesus was
trying to teach them?

What was it that prohibited them

from having a full
knowledge of this lesson

that Jesus was trying to teach.

Well, let's continue in
this passage of scripture

and see what else the Bible
reveals to us in the story.

It goes on and it says,
"And he came to Capernaum,

and being in the
house he asked them,
00:06:57.25\00:07:00.03
What was it that ye disputed
among yourselves by the way?

But they held their peace,
for by the way" listen to this,
00:07:05.17\00:07:09.23
"they had
disputed among themselves,
00:07:09.26\00:07:12.01
who should be the greatest."
00:07:12.04\00:07:15.35
So, friends, what do
we find out here is that

as they were
traveling along that road
00:07:17.37\00:07:19.20
and Jesus was instructing
them this very important lesson,

the Bible says that they
were disputing among themselves,
00:07:21.81\00:07:24.37
they were arguing
amongst themselves,
00:07:24.40\00:07:25.73
they were saying I'm
going to be the greatest.
00:07:25.76\00:07:27.32
I'm gonna sit on
the right hand of God,
00:07:27.35\00:07:28.72
I'm gonna sit on the
right, I'm gonna be the best,
00:07:28.75\00:07:30.47
I'm gonna be the highest
in the kingdom of heaven.
00:07:30.50\00:07:32.33
They were busy
arguing amongst themselves
00:07:32.36\00:07:34.49
who would be the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven.
00:07:34.52\00:07:37.63
As a result of
their arguing about
00:07:37.66\00:07:40.29
who would be the greatest,
00:07:40.32\00:07:41.66
they missed out on a
very important lesson
00:07:41.69\00:07:45.27
that God or Jesus
was trying to teach them.

Now, I think about this
and I ask myself the question.

How many lessons do we
not learn and understand

as a result of
may be some disunity

that we have in our family,

amongst our friends at
our job in our churches?

How many lessons do we miss out?

How many important instructions

as God try to give His
people but we miss out on them

because of the
disunity amongst us?

Friends, God is
trying to teach us
00:08:14.43\00:08:16.09
very important
lessons and it's important
00:08:16.12\00:08:18.46
for each one of us to
have a snowflake unity,
00:08:18.49\00:08:21.52
a unity that is
spoken about in Psalms 133:1
00:08:21.55\00:08:24.94
that it's good and
pleasant for God's people
00:08:24.97\00:08:26.66
to dwell together in unity.
00:08:26.69\00:08:28.17
We need to have a
unity amongst ourselves
00:08:28.20\00:08:30.74
in order for us to
properly understand

some of the lessons that
God is trying to teach us.

Now, I ask you another question.

How effective do you think

the disciples were
in witnessing for Jesus

at this point
time in their life?

It's obvious that
they were very ineffective

in their witness for God.
00:08:49.34\00:08:50.59
In fact they might have
been not being a good witness.

In fact they
probably were witnessing

of repelling
people away from God

instead of drawing them to God
00:08:57.46\00:08:58.91
because of their
pride and their arrogance

and their desire
to be number one.

Friends, they were un--

they were unusual in evangelism,

they were ineffective
in their evangelism why?

Because they had a
disunity amongst themselves.

You know, I
believe that sometimes
00:09:12.44\00:09:13.90
we as God's people
are not as effective
00:09:13.93\00:09:16.94
in outreach to others
and sharing God's word
00:09:16.97\00:09:19.52
to the lost
people in this world,

that we are not as effective
as we could possibly be

because of disunity
amongst the people of God.

Are you starting
to see the scenario

about how we need to have
a unity amongst God's people,

so that we can learn the lessons

have a better opportunity

in reaching out to other people

appropriate witness for God.

Now, I want to
look at another example,

another experience
here amongst the disciples

and we are gonna
turn to Acts Chapter 1

and we are gonna
begin in verse 4 and 5.

Notice what the Bible says here,
00:09:51.40\00:09:53.01
" And, being assembled together
with them, commanded them..."
00:09:53.04\00:09:56.19
Now, this is Jesus
talking to the disciples,
00:09:56.22\00:09:58.07
"that they should not
depart from Jerusalem,
00:09:58.10\00:10:00.75
but wait for the
promise of the Father,
00:10:00.78\00:10:02.85
which, saith he,
ye have heard of me.
00:10:02.88\00:10:06.37
For John truly
baptized with water;
00:10:06.40\00:10:08.49
but ye shall be
baptized with the Holy Ghost

not many days hence."

The Bible tells us here
that Jesus is once again

instructing His
disciples, He is saying

don't leave
Jerusalem, don't go away

but you're gonna be

what the Bible
calls the Holy Spirit.

So in both scenarios we see that

Jesus is teaching the disciples,

He is teaching them
in the other scenario,

they did not learn the lesson.

He is teaching them again, here
we ask ourselves a question.

Did they learn
the lesson this time?

We continue verses 12 through 14

in Acts Chapter 1 says,

follow Jesus' teaching.

"They return to Jerusalem

which is from Jerusalem
a Sabbath day's journey.

And when they were come in,

they went up into an upper room,

where abode both
Peter, and James, and John,

and Andrew, Philip,

and Judas the brother of James."

It continues here and it says,

"These all
continued with one accord

in prayer and
supplication, with the women,

and Mary the mother of
Jesus, with his brethren."

Notice what the Bible says here.

It says that they
continued here in what?

It says in one accord.

They followed Jesus'
teaching of go into Jerusalem,

go into Jerusalem the
way Jesus asked them to go.

They listened to His teaching

and when they got
there the Bible says,

that they all continued
there together in one accord.

So one Scenario you had disunity

and in other
scenario you have unity

and them coming
together in one accord.

What was the
result of their unity?

You probably understand
the story in Acts Chapter 2

about how they had
this powerful experience

what we call the
day of Pentecost.

Let's take a look at
it, Acts 2: 1 through 4

the Bible says this,

"And when the day of
Pentecost was fully come,
00:11:53.02\00:11:55.78
they were all with
one accord in one place.
00:11:55.81\00:11:58.43
And suddenly there
came a sound from heaven

as of a rushing mighty wind,

and it filled the whole
house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them
cloven tongues like as of fire,

accord and as they were there

on the day of
Pentecost in one accord,

the Bible tells us
that the Spirit of God,

the Holy Spirit was poured
out upon them in a mighty way

and the Bible says that they
all began to speak in tongues.

They began to speak
in different languages

so that other
people could understand

what they were teaching.

Now they weren't
doing this, they weren't,

they weren't speaking
in some unknown tongue

but they were
speaking in a tongue

where people
could understand them

as Peter got up on
that day of Pentecost

and he preached
that powerful message,

he preached that message
from the bottom of his heart

about Jesus being the
Messiah and all the truth

that Jesus had
taught while He was here.

As he got up and
preached that truth, my friends,

people's hearts were moved,
people's hearts were touched

there are people there

of many different languages
and many different dialects,

understood in their own tongue

as Peter preached to them

powerful day of Pentecost

the Bible tells us
