looking at verses 28-30

the Bible tells us here

"Likewise also as it
was in the days of Lot,

they did eat, they
drank, they bought,
00:01:01.63\00:01:04.49
they sold, they
planted, they builded

but the same day that Lot
went out of Sodom it rained fire
00:01:06.43\00:01:10.23
and brimstone from
heaven, and destroyed them all.

Even thus shall it be in the day

man is revealed."

We have to
understand the context

of this chapter here and realize

that Jesus is
talking about the end times.

about the end times

and pointing us in the direction

to look at the story of Lot.

And you're seeing
during the time of Lot

they bought, they
sold, they ate, they drink,

they did all of these
things and then the Bible says

that it rained fire
upon that city there,

that city called
Sodom and Gomorrah.

As the fire rained
down and destroyed that city

Jesus tells us "that as
it was in the days of Lot

so shall it be in the days
when the Son of Man comes."

this scenario here

and say well what is it

that I can learn
from the story of Lot

There's three words
there and the Bible says this.

It says "Remember Lot's wife."

its one thing for Jesus to
say look at the scenario of Lot

destruction of the Sodom

the issues that surrounded.

But then Jesus says this
He gives this stark warning

and He says
"Remember Lot's wife."

I ask myself why did Jesus
ask me to remember Lot's wife?

There's not really that much

that's written about
Mrs. Lot in the Bible

when actually go to
Genesis there is very little

written about Mrs.
Lot but none the less

either all of the
people during that time

Jesus points us in
the direction of Mrs. Lot

"Remember Lot's wife."

and the definition for the word

about their financial wellbeing,

about the things in this world

and not as
concerned sometimes about

what's gonna take place
in the end of the world.

And friends, I believe that

more important than
the things in this world

have obtained in this world

is a relationship with God.

the story of Mrs. Lot

there as we look at it today

not number one in her life.

why God is pointing us

happened to Mrs. Lot,

seek after in your life today?

the things in this world?

You see friends,
God is telling us

to remember Lot's wife

so that the same thing
that happened to Mrs. Lot

will not happen
to you and to me.

God does not want to
do destroy His people.

He wants to take all of
His children home with Him.

But unfortunately
there will be people

in this world
during the end times

that will hold
to their treasures,

that will hold to
the things of this world

and unfortunately the Bible says

that they will be destroyed

if they do not
seek after God first.

And Bible tells us
to remember Lot's wife,

so what I have
done in my study is

I have gone back to
Genesis to take a look

and to look at what happened
in scenario that surrounds Lot

and the destruction
of Sodom and Gomorrah.

the Bible says this.

"Abram dwelled in
the land of Canaan,

and Lot dwelled in
the cities of the plain,

and pitched his
tent toward Sodom."
00:05:45.22\00:05:48.92
The Bible says that Lot
pitched his tent towards Sodom.
00:05:48.95\00:05:53.06
Now the Bible says
that Abraham he actually

he was living in
the land of Canaan
00:05:56.45\00:05:57.93
and you know if you read
the stories surrounding it

Lot and Abraham's herdsmen
00:06:00.12\00:06:02.13
they started having
arguments and so Abraham and Lot
00:06:02.16\00:06:05.05
thought it would be
better if they separated.
00:06:05.08\00:06:07.89
So Lot chose Canaan
or Lot actually chose
00:06:07.92\00:06:12.05
the cities of the plain
and Abraham chose Canaan.
00:06:12.08\00:06:15.06
And so the Bible
says, now listen to me

now this is very interesting.

The Bible tells us
00:06:18.07\00:06:19.17
that Lot pitched
his tents towards Sodom.
00:06:19.20\00:06:21.26
Now that doesn't mean that
Lot right away moved into Sodom
00:06:21.29\00:06:24.21
and some people think
some people well, okay,
00:06:24.24\00:06:26.10
they separated and Lot moved
00:06:26.13\00:06:27.78
right into Sodom and Gomorrah.
00:06:27.81\00:06:28.84
No that's not
what the Bible says.

The first thing that Lot did

is he pitched his
tent towards Sodom.

Now you know friends,
there are steps that we take

to committing sin in our lives.
00:06:37.41\00:06:38.98
Some times we
don't automatically
00:06:39.01\00:06:40.47
commit sin right
away but there are steps
00:06:40.50\00:06:42.90
that we may take that lead us
00:06:42.93\00:06:44.38
in the direction
of committing sin

and
transgressing God's holy law.

And I believe that
in the scenario with Lot

as God points
us in the direction

in the end times about
Lot and what took place

in the times of
Sodom and Gomorrah

and also the scenario
with Mrs. Lot or Lot's wife

I believe that the first mistake

unfortunately that they made

was pitching their tents
toward Sodom and Gomorrah
00:07:03.56\00:07:06.89
that Pagan city,
that godless city,
00:07:06.92\00:07:09.32
that city that was
void of God and full of sin.

See friends, God
doesn't want us to live
00:07:12.96\00:07:14.63
in areas like that
00:07:14.66\00:07:16.04
where there is sin and
suffering all around us.

God wants His
people to be in a place

where there is
a pure environment

so that they can get to know

their Lord and
Creator it better.

The first step I
believe in the wrong direction

that Lot made and his family

was pitching their
tents towards Sodom.

And I can almost
imagine in my minds eye

that Mrs. Lot and the family

were encouraging Lot
and saying you know what

there's some
benefits that we might get
00:07:37.84\00:07:39.18
if we pitch our
tents towards Sodom.
00:07:39.21\00:07:40.74
You know, we can
drive our little oxcart
00:07:40.77\00:07:43.61
down to Sodom and Gomorrah
00:07:43.64\00:07:44.67
and if we pitch
our tent down there
00:07:44.70\00:07:45.97
and we'll be able to get
some of the modern conveniences,
00:07:46.00\00:07:48.00
buy some of the
fresh fruits and vegetables
00:07:48.03\00:07:49.28
and the produce there,
00:07:49.31\00:07:50.34
be able to get some of that
freshly squeezed grape juice
00:07:50.37\00:07:53.13
and that freshly
squeezed olive oil
00:07:53.16\00:07:55.95
and have all of the
modern conveniences of living
00:07:55.98\00:07:58.36
near that city of
Sodom and Gomorrah.
00:07:58.39\00:08:00.52
I can imagine Mrs.
Lot saying you know Lot,
00:08:00.55\00:08:02.59
if we pitch our
tents towards Sodom
00:08:02.62\00:08:04.05
it will be more
convenient for us
00:08:04.08\00:08:05.31
to maybe we'll be
able to send our kids
00:08:05.34\00:08:07.10
to the schools over
there in Sodom and Gomorrah
00:08:07.13\00:08:09.24
so that they can have a little
close to be a little bit closer
00:08:09.27\00:08:11.62
and have to be able
to journey right there
00:08:11.65\00:08:12.98
and be able to go to school.
00:08:13.01\00:08:14.73
You know I'm sure
there was a lot of rational

for why they pitched
their tents towards Sodom.

But listen my friends,
00:08:18.23\00:08:19.38
we should not
rationalize against God
00:08:19.41\00:08:22.87
and think maybe this will
be a good thing for me to do
00:08:22.90\00:08:26.70
when in actuality it may
draw us further away from God.

So we have to think
things all the way through

and ask ourselves the question

is this going to
draw me closer to God?

Is what I'm getting ready to
do is gonna draw closer to God

or is it going to draw
me further away from God?

And unfortunately I believe that

the step that Lot
and his family made

in pitching their
tents towards Sodom

was the first mistake
that Lot and his family made.

Now let me explain to you
a little bit of the scenario

that's taking place here.

Lot had been now moved into
the city of Sodom and Gomorrah.

He no longer pitches his tents
towards Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Bible later on tells
us that now he's moved into it

he's bought
himself a condominium

and he's living it up
there inside of the city
00:09:17.92\00:09:19.93
in Sodom and Gomorrah
00:09:19.96\00:09:20.99
and God sends two messengers,

two angels to
Lot and his family.

And he says listen Lot, there's
going to be a destruction

of the city of
Sodom and Gomorrah.

Sodom and Gomorrah
is going to be destroyed

by fire and
brimstone and I want you

a righteous man
one of my people.

I want you to
move out of the city.

I want you to leave the city.

I want you to gather
your family and get out

and so these angels
are appealing to Lot

and he's saying
arise lest you be destroyed

in the iniquity of the city.

Now the passage goes on to
say in verse 16 it says this.

"And while he lingered,
the men laid hold upon his hand

and upon the hand of his wife,

and upon the hand
of his two daughters

the Lord being merciful unto him

and they brought him forth,
and set him without the city."

Now I want you to realize a word

that just was spoken here.

The angels are there telling Lot

of Sodom and Gomorrah

are going to be destroyed
with fire and brimstone.

says that Lot lingered

in the face of that destruction.

the word linger is to question,

Do you sometimes question God?

God, why are you allowing
this to take place in my life?

Do you linger sometimes
in the face of destruction?

You see the Bible
tells us that one day

the earth is
going to be destroyed

that the Bible
the Bible tells us

that world is
going to be destroyed

and that God is
going to come back

and take His
just people with Him

and destroy the unjust.

the thing that's going
to do destroy the unjust

is those sins that they hold to.

that sin cannot dwell

destroy the people in this world

this thing in my
life that I love so much?

God does not want to take
away the good things from us

take away the bad

and replace it with the good.

whenever God asks us

and what He is asking us to do

Friends, I believe

done in that situation

might be what you do
in the end of this world

things in the world

that passage of scripture

says that Lot lingered.

were they were priests

they got some strange fire

and they took it

that there was only certain
