Welcome back to, Evolution Impossible. 00:00:37.00\00:00:39.17 I am Dr. Sven string. 00:00:39.20\00:00:40.77 We've been considering so much evidence 00:00:40.97\00:00:43.04 that shows that evolution really is impossible. 00:00:43.07\00:00:45.94 But is there and alternative to evolution, 00:00:46.27\00:00:49.14 or are we left in scientific limbo with nowhere else to turn? 00:00:49.18\00:00:53.18 Joining me for this very important question 00:00:53.62\00:00:55.75 is Harley Southwell. 00:00:55.78\00:00:57.12 ~ Thank you for being with us. 00:00:57.15\00:00:58.49 Tim Turner, good to have you back in the studio. 00:00:58.52\00:01:00.59 And Morgan Vincent, nice to have you as well. 00:01:00.62\00:01:03.32 And last, but definitely not least, we have Dr. John Ashton. 00:01:03.59\00:01:08.06 And Dr. John Ashton has been doing research 00:01:08.30\00:01:11.23 in this area for almost 50 years. 00:01:11.27\00:01:13.94 And we're really fortunate that he has written all of this 00:01:13.97\00:01:16.74 research up in his book, Evolution Impossible. 00:01:16.77\00:01:19.91 In his own personal experience, Dr. Ashton has discovered 00:01:20.24\00:01:23.81 that while evolution is impossible, 00:01:23.85\00:01:25.58 there is a God who exists and who is able 00:01:25.75\00:01:28.55 to intervene in our lives. 00:01:28.58\00:01:30.02 Now that's a really exciting thought. 00:01:30.05\00:01:32.29 So Let's explore the evidence. 00:01:32.32\00:01:33.66 Now, John, you mentioned a few times that evolution 00:01:33.69\00:01:36.56 cannot explain consciousness. 00:01:36.59\00:01:39.26 Can you explain what you mean by that? 00:01:39.43\00:01:41.30 Well, as I've alluded to another time, we talk about our brain. 00:01:41.90\00:01:46.97 Our brain has mass, and it stores information 00:01:47.00\00:01:50.44 and has certain processes in it. 00:01:50.47\00:01:52.31 But our thoughts or our will are non-material. 00:01:52.51\00:01:56.18 We can't weigh our thoughts. 00:01:56.41\00:01:57.81 We can put our brain on a balance, weigh it, 00:01:57.85\00:01:59.71 we can squash then it into... 00:01:59.75\00:02:01.18 Well, somebody else could. We'd be dead. 00:02:01.22\00:02:03.52 ...squash it into a... ~ Not so fun. 00:02:03.55\00:02:05.05 ...squash it into a measuring cylinder and measure its volume. 00:02:05.69\00:02:08.46 But our thoughts we can't. 00:02:08.72\00:02:10.46 And this is fascinating. This is who we really are. 00:02:10.73\00:02:14.50 You know, inside this frame is a little boy, John, sort of thing. 00:02:14.86\00:02:19.63 And that's my thoughts, that's who I am. 00:02:19.73\00:02:22.94 Who I am is really non-material. 00:02:22.97\00:02:25.31 This body is just a transducer that converts my thoughts 00:02:25.34\00:02:29.68 into physical actions so I can operate in this physical world. 00:02:29.71\00:02:33.82 But who I really am is non-material. 00:02:34.15\00:02:36.08 And it fascinate me that the God who created us 00:02:36.25\00:02:39.55 also describes Himself as non-material; 00:02:39.59\00:02:42.59 as spiritual. 00:02:42.69\00:02:44.03 And so, it's through our mind that we communicate with God. 00:02:44.06\00:02:47.13 And hence, you know, prayer. 00:02:47.16\00:02:48.66 And also, God can impress our minds 00:02:48.70\00:02:51.10 and so forth as well and communicate with people. 00:02:51.20\00:02:53.97 And the Bible is a history of people who 00:02:54.00\00:02:57.34 God communicated with. 00:02:57.37\00:02:58.87 And this is, you know, this has fascinated me. 00:02:59.24\00:03:01.44 And there's so much evidence for this. 00:03:01.48\00:03:03.55 So turning to our panel here, you know, if the God of 00:03:03.95\00:03:07.68 the Bible exists; He's a God of love, and He's powerful as well, 00:03:07.72\00:03:12.45 what would He be capable and interested to do? 00:03:12.49\00:03:15.92 Well one thing I heard once that was really, really beautiful 00:03:16.66\00:03:19.63 was that God exists, and He looks like Jesus. 00:03:19.66\00:03:23.47 You know, and that is a personal friendly Person 00:03:23.80\00:03:26.60 who wants to invest in us and to see us grow. 00:03:26.70\00:03:30.87 And that's something I think I've discovered in my own life. 00:03:30.91\00:03:32.67 You know, I journeyed through deciding whether I was going to 00:03:32.71\00:03:35.71 believe evolution or creation. 00:03:35.74\00:03:37.61 In the end, when I saw the evidence pointing towards 00:03:37.71\00:03:40.12 creation, I accepted that God was real and that 00:03:40.15\00:03:42.45 the story in the Bible is true, and this God believes in me 00:03:42.65\00:03:46.72 and loves me, and wanted the best in me. 00:03:46.76\00:03:48.82 And then that faith that's reciprocated back to God 00:03:48.86\00:03:52.76 helped transform my life and has grown me into, 00:03:52.79\00:03:55.60 and is continuing to grow me into the person I am today. 00:03:55.63\00:03:58.33 And that's just, I find that to be a beautiful thing; 00:03:58.37\00:04:02.00 that there is a God who's capable of taking a person 00:04:02.04\00:04:07.18 and transforming them, and making them useful 00:04:07.21\00:04:10.31 and beautiful and believing in them. 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.95 ~ What about you, Tim? 00:04:13.58\00:04:14.92 What would God be capable of or interested in doing? 00:04:14.95\00:04:17.45 Yeah, what I think about just from a scientific perspective, 00:04:17.55\00:04:20.89 the universe had a beginning. 00:04:21.72\00:04:23.06 Everyone agrees that that's the case. 00:04:23.09\00:04:24.89 But I guess, according to Richard Dawkins 00:04:25.53\00:04:28.43 it came from nothing. 00:04:28.46\00:04:29.80 And then he goes on to define what "nothing" actually is. 00:04:29.83\00:04:31.63 Which is kind of funny. 00:04:31.67\00:04:33.00 But according to the Bible, God was the one 00:04:33.03\00:04:36.17 who created everything. 00:04:36.20\00:04:37.54 And so, if you can create an entire universe, 00:04:37.74\00:04:41.74 not to mention setting up all the laws of physics, 00:04:42.38\00:04:45.05 creating information in DNA, the magnitude of His intelligence 00:04:45.78\00:04:51.09 must be completely off the scale, and His power as well. 00:04:51.12\00:04:53.72 I guess, why would He do that? 00:04:53.96\00:04:56.46 I think the Bible has some really cool answers about that. 00:04:56.49\00:04:59.19 And it's for His pleasure. 00:04:59.29\00:05:00.63 He just, He loves being relational. 00:05:00.66\00:05:03.06 And like Harley said, it's something that He's craving, 00:05:03.10\00:05:08.47 that interrelational, I guess, space. 00:05:08.50\00:05:11.81 And so I think, yeah, if He's like that, then that's awesome. 00:05:11.91\00:05:16.68 ~ What about you, Morgan? 00:05:17.75\00:05:19.08 Yeah, similar to what Harley alluded to, that God 00:05:19.11\00:05:22.38 orchestrates times and events, seasons, situations. 00:05:22.42\00:05:26.79 And not just one in our life, but multiple, 00:05:27.16\00:05:30.66 and many at different times in our lives 00:05:30.69\00:05:32.36 to get our attention. 00:05:32.39\00:05:34.46 I like to think of God as someone who pursues. 00:05:35.06\00:05:38.33 ~ Like the hound of heaven. 00:05:38.67\00:05:40.27 Yeah, He's the one who takes the first step. 00:05:40.30\00:05:44.57 One of my favorite words at the moment is the word, prevenient; 00:05:44.67\00:05:48.21 which comes from two words that combine to basically mean that 00:05:48.24\00:05:51.78 God is the one who takes that first step. 00:05:51.88\00:05:54.02 And when I look at my own life and hear stories of 00:05:54.45\00:05:57.55 other people's lives, we can see how God 00:05:57.59\00:06:00.26 takes that first step in terms of 00:06:00.29\00:06:02.32 relationship with us, with humans. 00:06:02.36\00:06:04.56 And so, it's a fascinating thing to think of God 00:06:04.59\00:06:07.36 being the one and wanting to be the one 00:06:07.53\00:06:11.87 who enters into that relationship with us. 00:06:12.07\00:06:14.80 So much so that even though someone can reject Him, 00:06:15.27\00:06:18.34 can slight Him, put Him away for decade after decade, 00:06:18.87\00:06:22.34 after decade, God will still pursue them. 00:06:22.38\00:06:25.65 God will still be the one to want to dwell with them. 00:06:25.68\00:06:29.48 And we see that absolutely personified 00:06:29.52\00:06:32.49 in the life of Christ. 00:06:32.52\00:06:33.86 As both Tim and Harley mentioned as well. 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.96 Thank you very much, Morgan. It's really amazing. 00:06:36.59\00:06:38.23 And Morgan mentioned the concept of times and seasons. 00:06:38.49\00:06:42.26 And that brought me back to your fascination with 00:06:42.30\00:06:45.70 the philosophy of time, which we have talked about before. 00:06:45.73\00:06:49.04 But in relation to God, the whole concept of time is 00:06:49.07\00:06:53.48 very fascinating, particularly with regards to prophecy. 00:06:53.51\00:06:55.84 And that's one of the key evidences that you raised 00:06:55.88\00:06:58.85 to bring to our attention in the book. 00:06:58.88\00:07:00.68 Can you give us one of the best examples of a prophecy 00:07:00.72\00:07:05.82 which allows us to see what God can do in our lives? 00:07:06.42\00:07:09.56 Wow, well there are lots of prophecies in the Bible. 00:07:10.86\00:07:14.13 Of course, you know, there are many prophecies. 00:07:14.16\00:07:16.06 I think perhaps one of the most outstanding ones 00:07:16.10\00:07:19.47 relates to the dream of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:07:19.50\00:07:22.70 Because Nebuchadnezzar is, you know, a very famous 00:07:23.10\00:07:26.57 historical figure. 00:07:26.61\00:07:27.94 ~ King of Babylon. 00:07:28.81\00:07:30.15 Well yes, founded the Babylonian empire, 00:07:30.18\00:07:32.71 he built the hanging gardens of Babylon for his wife, 00:07:32.75\00:07:36.52 which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world 00:07:36.55\00:07:39.59 according to Herodotus. 00:07:39.62\00:07:41.06 And so, it's very interesting that the Bible recounts 00:07:41.09\00:07:45.23 Daniel, one of the Hebrew captives after Nebuchadnezzar 00:07:45.79\00:07:50.57 conquered Jerusalem, that Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. 00:07:50.60\00:07:53.97 And in this dream he dreamt about an image. 00:07:54.37\00:07:58.31 Well, he had a dream and he couldn't remember what 00:07:58.51\00:08:01.24 the dream was, but he knew it was a very significant dream. 00:08:01.28\00:08:03.85 And he asked his wise men, you know, what did the dream mean. 00:08:04.05\00:08:06.48 And they said, "Well, tell us what you dreamt 00:08:06.51\00:08:08.78 and we'll tell you what it means." 00:08:08.82\00:08:10.15 But Nebuchadnezzar was a pretty clever guy, 00:08:10.19\00:08:12.32 and he said, "Well if I tell you what the dream was, 00:08:12.35\00:08:17.03 you can make up anything. 00:08:17.06\00:08:18.39 Well, I can't remember it anyway, so you know, 00:08:18.49\00:08:21.63 you tell me what I dreamt and then I'll know you can 00:08:21.66\00:08:24.53 tell me what the meaning is." 00:08:24.57\00:08:26.40 And of course, Daniel was one of the wise men at the time, 00:08:26.60\00:08:29.30 and he prayed and God revealed to him what the dream was. 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.71 And he told Nebuchadnezzar, and Nebuchadnezzar said, 00:08:32.74\00:08:34.74 "Wow, that's it. I remember that's what I dreamt. 00:08:35.11\00:08:37.71 What does it mean?" 00:08:37.75\00:08:39.08 And essentially, it was a vision of his empire and the 00:08:39.15\00:08:42.38 succeeding empires of the world. 00:08:42.42\00:08:44.05 That his empire would be followed by the Persian empire, 00:08:44.09\00:08:47.56 that would be followed by the Greek empire, 00:08:47.59\00:08:49.26 that would be followed by the Roman empire. 00:08:49.29\00:08:50.99 And then that essentially would disintegrate 00:08:51.19\00:08:53.33 into strong and weak kingdoms. 00:08:53.36\00:08:54.76 Now essentially that's exactly what happened. 00:08:54.80\00:08:57.17 You know, after Nebuchadnezzar died, his grandson, 00:08:57.20\00:09:01.47 I think it was Nabonidus who was the king, 00:09:01.77\00:09:05.44 and while his son Belshazzar was in Babylon, 00:09:05.47\00:09:08.34 Cyrus' general Gobryas came and marched in 00:09:08.88\00:09:12.01 and took Babylon in 539 BC. 00:09:12.05\00:09:15.48 And then we had the Persian empire, of course, followed in. 00:09:15.52\00:09:18.99 Cyrus and Darius, and so forth. 00:09:19.49\00:09:21.36 And then we had Alexander the great came in. 00:09:21.39\00:09:24.23 ~ Marched over. - Yes. 00:09:24.26\00:09:25.79 And defeated Darius in 331 BC. 00:09:25.83\00:09:29.33 And then we go on, and of course then the Greek 00:09:29.36\00:09:32.17 empire was divided up, and then subsequently 00:09:32.20\00:09:35.10 conquered by the Roman empire. 00:09:35.14\00:09:37.37 Which then degenerated into the states of Europe. 00:09:37.41\00:09:41.34 Some strong and some weak. 00:09:41.38\00:09:42.71 Some went on and some broke up. 00:09:42.74\00:09:44.08 The fascinating thing is, of course, that a rock 00:09:44.11\00:09:47.08 hit the bottom of the statue, and filled 00:09:47.12\00:09:49.75 and became the whole world. 00:09:49.78\00:09:51.12 And of course, that represented that one day God will destroy 00:09:51.15\00:09:53.72 the world and recreate it again. 00:09:53.76\00:09:55.46 So that part of the prophecy hasn't happened yet, 00:09:55.49\00:09:58.06 but all the other bits did. 00:09:58.09\00:09:59.96 ~ So what time period are we looking at here 00:10:00.16\00:10:02.10 from when Nebuchadnezzar had the dream, all the way to 00:10:02.13\00:10:06.13 the end of that fulfillment of that prophecy? 00:10:06.17\00:10:10.31 What sort of time frame are we looking at? 00:10:10.34\00:10:12.14 Well of course, Nebuchadnezzar was about 600 BC when he 00:10:12.17\00:10:16.34 first conquered Jerusalem, first took Jerusalem. 00:10:16.38\00:10:19.38 And of course, well we know Europe is still there now. 00:10:19.91\00:10:22.55 So it comes right through to the second coming. 00:10:22.58\00:10:24.59 So it spans the last part of the history of time. 00:10:24.62\00:10:27.46 But some of the details and things that fascinated me, 00:10:27.72\00:10:30.96 for example, Belshazzar was not recognized 00:10:31.66\00:10:35.53 in any of the secular historical records until recently, 00:10:35.56\00:10:39.33 and yet it was written in the Bible. 00:10:39.37\00:10:40.70 So the critics said, "Oh yeah, it's another made up story." 00:10:40.74\00:10:43.37 But then they discovered all these cuneiform tablets 00:10:43.77\00:10:46.44 that recognized that Belshazzar was the co-regent 00:10:46.47\00:10:50.31 with his father and was actually the king of Babylon at the time 00:10:50.35\00:10:52.88 while his father was actually fighting a 00:10:52.91\00:10:54.98 diversionary action with Cyrus. 00:10:55.02\00:10:56.55 ~ So archaeological evidence is supporting the biblical account. 00:10:56.85\00:11:00.22 Yes, and also the Bible talks about how Belshazzar was, 00:11:00.26\00:11:04.23 you know, all like in a drunken revelry feast 00:11:04.26\00:11:07.13 that they used to have. 00:11:07.16\00:11:08.66 The Bible talks about that. 00:11:08.90\00:11:10.23 And it's interesting, Xenophon, a later Greek historian, 00:11:10.27\00:11:13.64 records that, yes, that was actually the case of what was 00:11:15.04\00:11:18.07 happening when Gobryas took in, and that Belshazzar 00:11:18.11\00:11:21.34 was slain next to his throne. 00:11:21.38\00:11:22.98 So we had later, you know, all this confirmation 00:11:23.01\00:11:26.28 and corroboration of the historical accuracy. 00:11:26.31\00:11:28.95 And there's so many of the other prophecies that are like that. 00:11:28.98\00:11:31.65 And what about you guys? 00:11:32.95\00:11:34.29 Have any of the prophecies in the Bible really 00:11:34.32\00:11:37.03 impressed or inspired you? 00:11:37.06\00:11:38.39 Or have you ever seen the effect of this particular 00:11:38.43\00:11:41.46 prophecy in your own life or work or ministry? 00:11:41.50\00:11:45.30 ~ Yeah, I guess for me some of the most powerful prophecies, 00:11:45.50\00:11:49.17 I guess, are in relation to Jesus. 00:11:49.20\00:11:50.91 Like, you have the ones in Isaiah are hundreds of 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.48 years before Jesus was even there. 00:11:53.51\00:11:54.98 You have the ones in Psalms, it's like over three hundred 00:11:55.01\00:11:56.75 different prophecies that Jesus fulfills 00:11:56.78\00:11:58.15 every single one of them. 00:11:58.18\00:11:59.51 And I think just the surety of that. 00:11:59.58\00:12:03.52 Like, you talk about the probability of how the universe 00:12:03.55\00:12:05.72 could come into existence by itself, or life forming. 00:12:05.75\00:12:08.42 And just the probability of one Man fulfilling all three hundred 00:12:08.46\00:12:12.09 prophecies is just astounding. 00:12:12.13\00:12:13.60 And so, you kind of... Like, being able to see the... 00:12:13.63\00:12:15.96 God has provided us enough information to say, 00:12:16.56\00:12:19.47 okay, well I'm pretty sure that was who He said He was. 00:12:19.50\00:12:23.24 One thing kind of in the similar area, but 00:12:25.37\00:12:28.54 not necessarily prophecy, but something we can look back at 00:12:28.94\00:12:31.28 is the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:12:31.31\00:12:34.45 It's something that, you know, is a historical 00:12:35.15\00:12:37.65 verifiable fact that Jesus Christ lived and died. 00:12:38.25\00:12:40.92 And there's argument over whether He resurrected or not, 00:12:41.26\00:12:43.26 but the evidence that is seeming to mount, and mount, and mount 00:12:43.29\00:12:45.79 is very clear that there is evidence that He did resurrect. 00:12:45.83\00:12:49.43 You know, the different... 00:12:49.46\00:12:50.80 You know, He appeared to so many people. 00:12:50.83\00:12:52.63 There's the records of it being written down 00:12:52.67\00:12:55.24 by the apostles so soon after His death. 00:12:55.27\00:12:57.97 As well as there definitely was an empty tomb, 00:12:58.01\00:13:01.48 because that's what Jesus' enemies acknowledged, 00:13:01.51\00:13:05.11 that the tomb was empty. 00:13:05.15\00:13:06.48 And they made a story saying that all these Roman soldiers 00:13:06.51\00:13:09.08 were asleep, which is a very impossible story for these 00:13:09.12\00:13:13.32 Roman soldiers whose life depended on them staying awake. 00:13:13.36\00:13:15.49 And they're highly trained elite soldiers to fall asleep. 00:13:15.52\00:13:17.93 But they recognize that the tomb was empty, 00:13:17.96\00:13:20.66 so they had a make up this story to explain it. 00:13:20.70\00:13:22.53 And how would they have known it was the 00:13:22.56\00:13:23.90 disciples if they were asleep? 00:13:23.93\00:13:25.27 Exactly. 00:13:25.30\00:13:26.63 So there's just all this evidence for the 00:13:26.67\00:13:29.77 resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:13:29.80\00:13:31.14 Which, I mean, if you were to found a religion, you know... 00:13:31.24\00:13:34.78 Like, there's been a number of men over history who have 00:13:34.81\00:13:37.41 founded religions, you know. 00:13:37.45\00:13:38.78 But Jesus founded His religion based on the fact that 00:13:38.81\00:13:41.08 He was going to die and resurrect. 00:13:41.12\00:13:42.88 That is such an unlikely, astronomically unlikely 00:13:43.08\00:13:47.06 thing to happen in just a materialistic world. 00:13:47.09\00:13:49.12 But Jesus did found His religion upon that, 00:13:49.36\00:13:52.26 and everyone around Him proclaimed, "He's risen." 00:13:52.29\00:13:55.16 And everyone was like, well there's proof for it. 00:13:55.26\00:13:56.87 And so, Christianity just exploded so rapidly. 00:13:56.90\00:13:59.23 And Jesus actually predicted His own resurrection 00:13:59.40\00:14:02.47 while He was still doing His public ministry. 00:14:02.94\00:14:05.47 So what you're pointing out is that there's supernatural 00:14:05.51\00:14:09.31 miracles and supernatural prophecy as well. 00:14:09.34\00:14:12.78 And John, I guess the question I have in mind is this: 00:14:12.91\00:14:15.52 I mean, you know, I go on the Bureau of Meteorology 00:14:15.55\00:14:19.75 and I look up the weather report, and I can get about 00:14:19.79\00:14:23.43 seven days in advance, and sometimes 00:14:23.46\00:14:25.03 they get it pretty wrong. 00:14:25.06\00:14:26.39 Which is a bit sad. 00:14:26.90\00:14:28.93 But you know, predicting two and a half thousand years 00:14:29.60\00:14:34.50 in advance, hundreds of years, seems like 00:14:34.70\00:14:38.24 a bit of a long stretch. 00:14:38.27\00:14:39.61 So how could God actually predict these things 00:14:39.64\00:14:44.41 so far in advance? 00:14:44.45\00:14:45.78 What power does God have? 00:14:45.81\00:14:47.22 What's the nature of God for Him to be able to do this? 00:14:47.25\00:14:51.62 Okay, well that's a fairly deep, you know, question to get into. 00:14:52.05\00:14:57.03 And I guess a number of people have argued with, 00:14:57.06\00:15:00.73 well, is there free will, and so forth? 00:15:00.76\00:15:03.37 You know, some of my own thoughts on this is that 00:15:04.27\00:15:06.13 God does help influence us and helps us make choices. 00:15:06.17\00:15:09.97 He doesn't force us to make choices, but He can change 00:15:10.01\00:15:12.94 circumstances so that, you know, we make choices over time. 00:15:13.17\00:15:16.64 And He knows the future. 00:15:16.68\00:15:18.41 Also, there's been different models portrayed that, 00:15:18.45\00:15:21.58 we often hear God can see the beginning and the end. 00:15:21.62\00:15:24.55 And they've been in some of the philosophical journals. 00:15:24.59\00:15:27.96 For example, let's say, well, if you imagine you had a 00:15:27.99\00:15:30.83 plain sheet of paper, and we're living in this 00:15:30.86\00:15:32.96 two dimensional space, and we're like little ants 00:15:32.99\00:15:36.33 crawling around on this space. 00:15:36.36\00:15:38.10 But you've got a pin going through your piece of paper. 00:15:38.30\00:15:42.07 And this has the future on this side and the past on this side. 00:15:42.10\00:15:46.68 And God is out here, and He sees the whole lot. 00:15:46.71\00:15:49.94 But we only see this little bit here. 00:15:49.98\00:15:51.88 But He can see the whole lot. 00:15:52.15\00:15:53.62 So I mean, these are just, you know, primitive models 00:15:53.65\00:15:56.05 to sort of try and explain that God is outside time. 00:15:56.08\00:15:59.35 ~ Transcends time. 00:15:59.39\00:16:00.72 You know, the whole concept of time and choice. 00:16:00.96\00:16:03.99 You know, there's evidence that humans have known the future, 00:16:04.09\00:16:07.80 certainly through premonitions and dreams, 00:16:07.83\00:16:09.96 and this sort of thing. 00:16:10.00\00:16:11.33 ~ And so what you're saying is, not only in the Bible 00:16:11.37\00:16:14.27 do we have, you know, prophecies and dreams 00:16:14.30\00:16:17.41 like Nebuchadnezzar had, 00:16:17.44\00:16:18.77 but also more recently there's been dreams. 00:16:18.81\00:16:21.98 Could you maybe share with us some stories 00:16:22.01\00:16:23.85 of people who have had dreams? 00:16:23.88\00:16:25.21 Well, it's a real life scenario. 00:16:25.25\00:16:27.12 I mean, earlier on we talked Professor Werner Gitt. 00:16:27.15\00:16:29.75 Now his story is really interesting. 00:16:29.85\00:16:32.35 He grew up in east Germany, which is very close 00:16:32.39\00:16:36.39 to the Russian border, and was born in 1937, 00:16:36.42\00:16:38.86 so it was before the war. 00:16:38.89\00:16:40.23 When the war broke out he was only a little boy. 00:16:40.26\00:16:42.13 And of course, towards the end of the war, 00:16:42.63\00:16:44.73 as the Russian soldiers came in, the people had to flee. 00:16:45.13\00:16:48.70 And his mother was captured by the Russians, 00:16:49.14\00:16:52.84 taken to the Ukraine where she died. 00:16:52.87\00:16:55.61 His older brother was taken away and never heard of again. 00:16:55.81\00:16:59.45 But Werner and a couple of aunties were actually, 00:17:00.72\00:17:08.42 he was quite sick at the time, they tried to flee, but 00:17:08.46\00:17:11.43 they were actually captured and held, 00:17:11.46\00:17:13.29 and then later expelled to a town on the island of Wyk, 00:17:13.33\00:17:18.33 I think, in the North Sea. 00:17:18.37\00:17:19.73 After the war they were put there to be dealt with 00:17:20.04\00:17:22.44 until everything was sorted out. 00:17:22.47\00:17:23.81 Now meanwhile, his dad had been captured 00:17:23.84\00:17:25.97 and was in an allied prisoner of war camp. 00:17:26.27\00:17:28.51 And he had no idea where his family was; 00:17:28.81\00:17:32.81 where his children were, where his family were. 00:17:33.21\00:17:34.88 Had no idea what happened to his wife, or anything. 00:17:34.92\00:17:36.92 But one night he had a dream. 00:17:36.95\00:17:38.85 And in that dream, he dreamt that he 00:17:39.35\00:17:41.89 visited a particular uncle. 00:17:41.92\00:17:43.63 And he asked this uncle... 00:17:43.83\00:17:47.83 His uncle was saying to him, 00:17:47.86\00:17:49.43 "Oh, you should come and visit us." 00:17:49.46\00:17:50.80 This is the dad that dreamt this dream 00:17:50.83\00:17:52.60 in the prisoner of war camp. 00:17:52.63\00:17:53.97 And in his dream, he asked his uncle, "Where do you live?" 00:17:54.14\00:17:56.34 His uncle told him an address. 00:17:56.37\00:17:57.81 And so he woke up straight away and he wrote the address down. 00:17:57.84\00:18:01.58 And he decided to write to that address. 00:18:02.14\00:18:04.95 And at that address was an uncle 00:18:05.58\00:18:09.25 that he hadn't had contact with for years. 00:18:09.68\00:18:12.05 He'd moved there, and everything was topsy-turvy after the war, 00:18:12.09\00:18:14.79 but he knew where his son was. 00:18:15.06\00:18:18.39 And he put him in contact. 00:18:18.86\00:18:20.20 And his son was the sole, Werner was the sole survivor 00:18:20.23\00:18:23.90 of his dad's family. 00:18:23.93\00:18:25.27 But that's just one of many dreams. 00:18:25.60\00:18:28.40 I mean, I can remember having a really 00:18:28.44\00:18:30.34 powerful premonition myself. 00:18:30.37\00:18:31.94 I was a tutor for the first year med students in chemistry 00:18:32.44\00:18:39.71 at the University of Tasmania. 00:18:39.75\00:18:41.08 And I used to give some Bible studies. 00:18:41.45\00:18:43.39 And one night traveling home, I was eager to get home, 00:18:43.42\00:18:45.95 it was a rainy night, coming into Hobart 00:18:45.99\00:18:48.56 as I'm driving down the hill towards the city, 00:18:48.76\00:18:52.09 I was strongly impressed to slow down. 00:18:52.13\00:18:54.53 Slow down. 00:18:54.83\00:18:56.16 And I thought to myself, "I'm only doing 60 00:18:56.36\00:18:58.97 kilometers an hour." 00:18:59.00\00:19:00.34 But it was, slow down, slow down. 00:19:00.37\00:19:03.00 So I slowed down just a little bit. 00:19:03.17\00:19:06.21 But I saw this green light ahead, and I thought, 00:19:06.24\00:19:08.41 I want to get through the green light. 00:19:08.44\00:19:09.78 And I was trying to balance, I'm slowing down 00:19:10.08\00:19:12.41 but I want to get that green light. 00:19:12.45\00:19:13.78 And it was on a blind intersection corner 00:19:13.92\00:19:16.38 where there was an office block on the corner. 00:19:16.42\00:19:18.45 And just as I came into that light, 00:19:18.89\00:19:21.02 a blue Datsun sports car came through at high speed. 00:19:21.22\00:19:24.96 And I hit him. I was in a 56 Chevy. 00:19:24.99\00:19:27.20 And I hit him and I spun him around. 00:19:27.40\00:19:30.27 But a fraction of a second faster, he would have 00:19:30.47\00:19:34.20 slammed into the side of me and killed me. 00:19:34.24\00:19:36.57 If I had properly slowed down as God was prompting me, 00:19:36.60\00:19:40.14 my Chevy wouldn't have hit him and I wouldn't have had 00:19:40.24\00:19:42.34 this big dang mudguard on the front. 00:19:42.38\00:19:44.85 But praise the Lord, I wasn't killed. 00:19:44.88\00:19:46.21 Listen to God. That's the lesson. 00:19:46.25\00:19:47.58 And I did a study among our research group 00:19:47.62\00:19:51.15 when I wrote on this topic of evidence that people 00:19:51.19\00:19:56.96 had seen the future. 00:19:56.99\00:19:58.33 Because the future is random or chaotic 00:19:58.36\00:20:01.13 from a human perspective. 00:20:01.16\00:20:02.50 And so, how can anyone know the future? 00:20:02.53\00:20:04.43 And there are many cases where people, 00:20:05.60\00:20:07.64 particularly Christians, have had powerful premonitions 00:20:07.67\00:20:10.11 that have protected them. 00:20:10.14\00:20:11.47 And even among the staff, we had about 100 staff, 00:20:11.67\00:20:15.04 and I think out of 100 staff there were 5 people 00:20:15.08\00:20:18.38 who had had powerful premonitions 00:20:18.48\00:20:20.42 that warned them of danger. 00:20:20.45\00:20:22.78 ~ I have a question in regards to this. 00:20:23.69\00:20:25.72 I was reading recently about a magician by the 00:20:25.82\00:20:27.66 name of James Randi who created a competition, basically. 00:20:27.69\00:20:32.89 He was an atheist and he created a competition 00:20:32.93\00:20:34.90 for anyone who claimed to be a diviner, or a psychic, 00:20:35.30\00:20:39.37 or you know, a telekinetic, or have some other kind of, 00:20:39.40\00:20:42.90 you know, clairvoyance, supernatural power, or whatnot. 00:20:43.14\00:20:45.54 He created a challenge for them that if they could prove 00:20:45.57\00:20:49.88 under scientific verifiable testable conditions 00:20:49.91\00:20:52.81 that they had a supernatural gift then he would give them 00:20:53.48\00:20:55.48 a certain amount of money. 00:20:55.52\00:20:56.85 It eventually grew to be around about, I believe, $100,000. 00:20:56.89\00:21:00.09 It might have been a million, if I remember correctly. 00:21:00.12\00:21:02.19 But over a period of 50 years and thousands of applicants 00:21:02.29\00:21:07.00 that came through, not a single one them was able 00:21:07.03\00:21:08.43 to demonstrate a supernatural power, 00:21:08.46\00:21:10.30 a supernatural gift. 00:21:10.33\00:21:11.67 And it kind of like seems that, like, when we try and prove 00:21:11.73\00:21:15.40 supernatural things in science, we can't verify it and test it. 00:21:15.44\00:21:18.97 And also, I guess, coming back to evolution, 00:21:19.01\00:21:21.41 you know, we've remarked on how it's impossible 00:21:21.71\00:21:24.15 to be tested and verified in a laboratory 00:21:24.18\00:21:26.51 setting, and so forth. 00:21:27.02\00:21:28.35 So if we have these two, you know, different things 00:21:28.38\00:21:31.09 that can neither be verified, where should we go? 00:21:31.12\00:21:34.92 Well I think we have the testimony in Christian 00:21:35.46\00:21:37.86 literature of so many Christians who have testified 00:21:37.89\00:21:41.76 to God's leading in their life, powerful changes in their life. 00:21:41.80\00:21:46.33 Werner Gitt's story is just one of, you know, 00:21:46.37\00:21:49.07 thousands, hundreds of thousands probably, of examples. 00:21:49.10\00:21:52.47 And people know and experience in themselves, 00:21:52.74\00:21:55.08 and I do too, similar to you, that God has changed them. 00:21:55.11\00:21:58.38 When I accepted God, my whole attitude 00:21:58.41\00:22:02.45 to life began to change, and God began to change me. 00:22:02.48\00:22:06.29 And you realize, that's a real experience that happens. 00:22:06.32\00:22:09.09 And I guess, God has warned these people. 00:22:09.52\00:22:11.66 So there are so many stories of miracles of people 00:22:11.69\00:22:14.46 surviving under different conditions. 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.43 You know, we think of that soldier in the second world war 00:22:16.67\00:22:20.64 that rescued all those people. 00:22:20.67\00:22:23.57 ~ Desmond Doss. - Desmond Doss. 00:22:23.61\00:22:25.17 They made the film about him, Hacksaw Ridge. 00:22:25.21\00:22:26.98 You know, he made all those trips up there. 00:22:27.01\00:22:29.04 People are being shot all around him, but he wasn't shot. 00:22:29.08\00:22:31.68 Now people say, "Well hang on, 00:22:31.98\00:22:33.31 there are good people that die too." 00:22:33.35\00:22:35.05 But you know, it seems that God, at certain times, 00:22:35.28\00:22:39.42 when God has miraculously protected people. 00:22:39.45\00:22:43.43 You know, I think of the story of Harriet Tubman 00:22:43.76\00:22:45.96 that led all those slaves to freedom. 00:22:46.16\00:22:48.80 You know, an uneducated woman. 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.43 But she said she heard the voice from God, 00:22:50.63\00:22:52.70 God would tell her to go this way or back that way. 00:22:52.73\00:22:55.30 And she made all those journeys and she was never caught, 00:22:55.60\00:22:58.44 and took all those people to freedom. 00:22:58.47\00:23:00.08 So it seems that when there's a purpose, 00:23:00.11\00:23:02.88 that there are times when God intervenes and blesses 00:23:03.35\00:23:06.65 His people, He protects them. 00:23:07.18\00:23:08.92 I mean, my wife and I have had, you know, answer to pray 00:23:09.32\00:23:12.25 just this past week while on holiday, sort of thing. 00:23:12.29\00:23:15.06 I've had so many personal answers to prayer. 00:23:15.09\00:23:18.26 I'm writing that in a book at the moment, 00:23:18.29\00:23:20.30 I'm up to about 60,000 words, of experiences myself. 00:23:20.33\00:23:24.07 Of course, there's many other Christians that have 00:23:24.10\00:23:25.83 written these books, particularly out in the 00:23:25.87\00:23:28.44 mission field where there have been no resources, you know. 00:23:28.47\00:23:30.84 And I think of, say, Mary Slessor. 00:23:30.87\00:23:32.81 Here was this young Scottish woman who went to the 00:23:33.01\00:23:36.01 Congo in the 1800's, walked barefoot into the jungles, 00:23:36.04\00:23:39.85 and converted the cannibals. 00:23:39.88\00:23:41.82 You know, so we can see the power of God is working 00:23:42.48\00:23:45.95 where it's working the power of good. 00:23:45.99\00:23:47.66 And there are so many stories like that 00:23:47.69\00:23:49.26 where I think they all add up that there is 00:23:49.29\00:23:51.76 an intervening God that we can come to and we can trust, 00:23:51.79\00:23:54.83 while we don't necessarily have specifically 00:23:54.86\00:23:58.37 our answers to prayer necessary at the time. 00:23:58.40\00:24:00.90 What I've learned is that we can trust that God 00:24:01.20\00:24:04.11 had our good in the long term. 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.57 And I can see that now of prayers that I have prayed 00:24:06.84\00:24:10.15 over ten years ago in particular personal matters, 00:24:10.18\00:24:13.88 and now I can see why God didn't answer the prayers. 00:24:14.28\00:24:17.12 And I remember praying and saying, "God, I can see 00:24:17.15\00:24:20.39 You're not answering my prayer, You're blocking my path. 00:24:20.42\00:24:23.26 Each time I make a move, You're blocking it." 00:24:23.29\00:24:25.56 And now ten years later I can see why, 00:24:25.76\00:24:29.60 and all the extra good that has come out of it 00:24:29.90\00:24:33.00 because I didn't pursue that particular path at that time. 00:24:33.03\00:24:36.47 But I couldn't see it at the time. 00:24:37.64\00:24:39.87 I thought that I was right. I was pursuing the best path. 00:24:39.91\00:24:42.94 And certainly, this whole concept of the supernatural, 00:24:43.35\00:24:46.35 but also the limits of science in terms of 00:24:46.38\00:24:49.25 being able to test it. 00:24:49.28\00:24:50.62 Tim, do you have any questions in that area for John? 00:24:50.65\00:24:54.09 I did, actually, but it probably comes from my own experience. 00:24:54.12\00:24:56.89 So when I was a little dagger, I had a, actually still got 00:24:56.93\00:25:01.93 a genetic blood disorder. 00:25:01.96\00:25:03.30 And they had to do an operation when I was little. 00:25:03.33\00:25:05.97 And my hemoglobin levels were really low, 00:25:06.00\00:25:09.04 and they are not able to operate when the levels are so low. 00:25:10.01\00:25:13.41 And so, my dad got his Bible out and sort of, you know, 00:25:13.44\00:25:17.21 you anoint the kid, get the elders of the church 00:25:17.25\00:25:18.85 together, and stuff. 00:25:18.88\00:25:20.22 My hemoglobin levels almost doubled 00:25:20.25\00:25:22.42 overnight, which is medically unheard of. 00:25:23.28\00:25:25.62 And so they were able to do the operation. 00:25:25.65\00:25:26.99 And after things like that where I'm lying in a hospital bed 00:25:27.02\00:25:32.09 and there's pain all through my abdomen, 00:25:32.13\00:25:33.76 and I look at my mom and say, "Pray," and she prays. 00:25:33.80\00:25:36.33 The pain disappears and goes away. 00:25:36.53\00:25:38.13 I'm kind of wondering, what does science do 00:25:38.17\00:25:41.04 to personal experiences? 00:25:41.57\00:25:42.94 Like, do they... 00:25:42.97\00:25:44.31 I know that in some areas of science, 00:25:44.34\00:25:46.54 they will validate someone's experience as this is something 00:25:46.57\00:25:48.98 that's actually, you know, we can test this. 00:25:49.01\00:25:50.98 This happened and is repeatable. That sort of thing. 00:25:51.01\00:25:53.21 But what do they do when they have supernatural experiences 00:25:53.25\00:25:55.68 in the human realm? 00:25:56.75\00:25:58.25 Well, some of those have been recorded in books, 00:25:58.69\00:26:01.26 and there have been studies, but they don't have an answer. 00:26:01.29\00:26:04.36 That's the problem. 00:26:04.66\00:26:06.36 Do you think that's because the supernatural 00:26:06.39\00:26:09.90 is not able to be put into a test tube? 00:26:09.93\00:26:13.10 ~ Well that's right. We can't force God. 00:26:14.44\00:26:16.81 That's the bottom line. We have to trust. 00:26:17.54\00:26:19.87 And you know, it's incredible to reflect 00:26:21.11\00:26:24.21 on how God can work in our lives. 00:26:24.25\00:26:26.85 He is a God who really does want to intervene 00:26:26.88\00:26:30.12 and show us that He exists. 00:26:30.15\00:26:32.39 This is the last episode in our journey, Evolution Impossible. 00:26:32.82\00:26:36.36 However, your exploration of this fascinating 00:26:36.46\00:26:40.46 topic can continue. 00:26:40.50\00:26:42.03 If you haven't already, we invite you to get a copy 00:26:42.13\00:26:44.77 of Dr. John Ashton's book, Evolution Impossible, 00:26:45.10\00:26:48.64 and delve deeper into the origin of life itself. 00:26:48.67\00:26:52.47 It could change your life forever. 00:26:52.61\00:26:55.24 But even more importantly, we would like you to 00:26:55.48\00:26:58.35 continue this journey with God Himself. 00:26:58.61\00:27:01.18 The last book in the Bible called, Revelation, 00:27:01.52\00:27:03.85 paints an amazing picture that God will recreate 00:27:03.89\00:27:07.62 this world to be a new world; a place where there's no more 00:27:07.66\00:27:11.79 pain, or suffering, or death. 00:27:11.83\00:27:14.20 We want you to be with us in the new earth. 00:27:14.23\00:27:17.00 And I'd like to invite you to join with me as I pray with you 00:27:17.27\00:27:21.34 as you consider this decision for eternity. 00:27:21.37\00:27:24.94 Father in heaven, we've been on this journey of 00:27:25.87\00:27:28.61 exploring evolution together. 00:27:28.64\00:27:30.61 We have discovered that all of the evidence 00:27:30.65\00:27:32.51 points to the reality that You created life and this world 00:27:32.55\00:27:36.58 just like the Bible says. 00:27:36.62\00:27:38.32 Please be with every person who has been 00:27:38.59\00:27:40.36 watching this program. 00:27:40.39\00:27:41.82 May Your Holy Spirit speak powerfully to our hearts. 00:27:41.96\00:27:44.86 May we know that You sent Your only Son, Jesus, 00:27:44.89\00:27:47.40 to die on the cross for us personally so we can 00:27:47.43\00:27:49.96 accept the free gift to a restored relationship with You. 00:27:50.00\00:27:53.00 - In Jesus name, amen. - Amen. 00:27:53.10\00:27:55.74
