Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome 00:00:17.52\00:00:19.33 to another edition of the Eleventh Hour Evidence. 00:00:19.36\00:00:22.09 We're coming to you live from Battle Creek, 00:00:22.12\00:00:24.16 Michigan, my hometown. As you know this series 00:00:24.19\00:00:27.33 has been waking us up to the fact that Jesus is alive 00:00:27.36\00:00:31.23 I'm your host Pastor Jason Seiber and I'm so glad 00:00:31.26\00:00:34.20 you're joining us. Tonight we are going to be talking 00:00:34.23\00:00:36.20 about an amazing topic. It is a topic that has divided 00:00:36.23\00:00:40.06 the world right down the spiritual fault line. 00:00:40.09\00:00:42.59 The question of evolution, where did we come from 00:00:42.62\00:00:46.34 and what are the implications of that answer, 00:00:46.37\00:00:48.74 and I've got to tell you Buddy, I know something 00:00:48.77\00:00:50.76 about our good friend David Asscherick. 00:00:50.79\00:00:52.15 It turns out this guy hang on a wall like a monkey. 00:00:53.06\00:00:55.97 Are you aware of that? I mean this guy's an incredible 00:00:56.87\00:00:59.23 rock climber, how many people knew that David Asscherick 00:00:59.26\00:01:01.08 is incredible rock climber? You know I was doing 00:01:01.11\00:01:03.58 pull-ups with him outside, I'm lucky to be able to just 00:01:03.61\00:01:06.74 do a pull up, he does pull-ups and at the top he claps, 00:01:06.98\00:01:09.25 catches it goes back down. Apparently, 00:01:09.28\00:01:12.54 Louise Leakey is asking questions about whether he 00:01:12.57\00:01:15.40 might introduce some possibilities to the missing 00:01:15.43\00:01:17.99 link. And if you believe that it's not true, 00:01:20.38\00:01:23.30 okay don't anybody call 3ABN and ask about the 00:01:23.33\00:01:25.42 missing link, it not true. But we are excited about 00:01:25.45\00:01:29.15 this topic because we believe there are fantastic answers 00:01:29.39\00:01:32.62 to our origins and to the quality of the God 00:01:32.65\00:01:35.07 that we serve based upon those origins. 00:01:35.10\00:01:37.04 I understand you have a perfect song for a perfect 00:01:37.07\00:01:39.29 discussion for a perfect evening in Battle Creek. 00:01:39.32\00:01:41.48 Mr. Darwin, I address you to the subject of this song, 00:01:49.26\00:01:53.94 I hope you're not offended when I tell you that 00:01:55.66\00:01:58.20 you're wrong, but when you tell me that my ancestor's 00:01:58.81\00:02:02.51 flower or a tree. Mr. Darwin, I have to disagree, 00:02:02.54\00:02:10.53 you said that we were slimy ones and crawled out 00:02:11.83\00:02:15.04 of the sea and though I am no scientist I 00:02:15.07\00:02:18.69 know that wasn't me. I don't know just what possessed 00:02:18.72\00:02:23.01 you to say all the things you say, 00:02:23.04\00:02:25.66 when Jesus comes your face will surely be red. 00:02:25.91\00:02:29.20 For it was God that formed me from the dust 00:02:30.76\00:02:33.22 and gave my body a shape, it is he that I descended 00:02:33.25\00:02:37.25 from and not some hairy ape. It is he that loves 00:02:37.28\00:02:41.25 and cares for me this much I know is true and 00:02:41.28\00:02:44.74 Mr. Darwin, Jesus Christ loves you. 00:02:44.77\00:02:48.05 I have a little dog at home, he's got a lot to give 00:02:52.18\00:02:55.92 and though he is my little friend, he's not my relative 00:02:56.97\00:03:00.24 and when I go into the zoo to look at all the living 00:03:01.25\00:03:04.57 things, it's just a visit and not a family gathering. 00:03:05.23\00:03:08.45 For it was God that formed me from the dust and gave 00:03:08.48\00:03:13.54 my body a shape. It is he that I descended 00:03:13.57\00:03:17.10 from and not some hairy ape. It is he that loves 00:03:17.13\00:03:20.87 and cares for me, this much I know is true 00:03:20.90\00:03:23.80 and Mr. Darwin, Jesus Christ loves you. 00:03:23.83\00:03:27.71 I cannot condemn you for the things you tried to say. 00:03:32.16\00:03:35.69 All I know is you and I were never made that way 00:03:35.92\00:03:40.00 and though my little furry friends so similarities. 00:03:40.80\00:03:44.19 Lets not make a monkey out of me. Mr. Darwin, 00:03:46.08\00:03:52.36 when the life you led in Heaven's court is tried, 00:03:52.39\00:03:55.87 I hope you change the tune you're saying sometime 00:03:56.11\00:03:59.71 before you died. 'Cause when Jesus comes he is going 00:03:59.74\00:04:03.58 to take his children off the ground and 00:04:03.61\00:04:06.76 you're just going to have to stick around. 00:04:06.79\00:04:09.12 For it was God who formed me from the dust and gave 00:04:11.01\00:04:14.16 my body a shape, it is he that I descended from 00:04:14.19\00:04:17.76 and not some hairy ape. It is he that loves and cares 00:04:17.79\00:04:22.10 for me, this much I know is true and Mr. Darwin, 00:04:22.13\00:04:26.06 Mr. Darwin, Jesus Christ loves you. 00:04:27.70\00:04:35.52 Amen. Amen. How about that 00:04:40.05\00:04:41.33 Mr. Darwin, Jesus Christ loves you. How many of you 00:04:41.88\00:04:44.48 had a great dad in your lives. 00:04:44.51\00:04:46.02 I know not everybody has, but some of you like me 00:04:46.05\00:04:48.20 have had a wonderful dad that you really loved 00:04:48.23\00:04:49.94 and appreciated. My dad is out in Northern California, 00:04:49.97\00:04:52.78 he was a timber faller for a number of years, 00:04:52.81\00:04:54.62 worked on the highways for a number of years. 00:04:54.65\00:04:56.46 My mom used not like to take my sister and I 00:04:57.15\00:04:58.85 out to visit him because when we would go and see 00:04:58.88\00:05:01.45 him and bring him his lunch, my dad couldn't keep 00:05:01.48\00:05:04.14 his lunch to himself and by the time it was done, 00:05:04.17\00:05:06.31 dad got no lunch and my sister and I ate everything. 00:05:06.34\00:05:08.99 I don't know if you had a dad like that, 00:05:10.06\00:05:11.03 but that my dad for you, a very sharing person 00:05:11.04\00:05:14.55 and when you got sick, my dad was the kind that 00:05:14.58\00:05:17.85 held your head and comforted you and told 00:05:17.88\00:05:20.71 you it's all going to be okay. 00:05:20.74\00:05:21.99 Tonight, we're going to ask the question friends, 00:05:23.43\00:05:25.35 what kind of dad is God? Is he a dad like my dad or 00:05:25.38\00:05:31.19 better or is he a dad that strikes fear to the heart 00:05:32.13\00:05:35.22 of his creation. To answer that question 00:05:35.25\00:05:37.66 tonight Pastor David Asscherick. 00:05:37.69\00:05:39.77 Amen. Good evening everyone. 00:05:39.80\00:05:41.88 Good evening. Did you love that song? Yes. 00:05:41.91\00:05:44.61 That was hilarious. But it was not only hilarious, 00:05:46.11\00:05:49.32 it was very sound too. I mean that's what 00:05:49.35\00:05:52.22 I liked about it, is that it was funny and very sound 00:05:52.25\00:05:55.48 as well. Where did Buddy go? He said he was going 00:05:55.51\00:05:57.42 to sit with his family, I'm looking for him. 00:05:57.45\00:05:58.70 Oh, there we are excellent, great, 00:05:58.73\00:06:01.41 what a beautiful family. Where's your wife, oh! Hi, 00:06:01.44\00:06:05.33 nice to meet you. Well, I might invite you back up 00:06:07.14\00:06:09.82 to sing that song again Buddy, 00:06:09.85\00:06:10.82 maybe I'll just preach short and then I'll have you come 00:06:10.83\00:06:12.89 in sing that song again. Wasn't that beautiful? Yeah. 00:06:12.92\00:06:16.33 Oh! My heart is just encouraged by that song, 00:06:16.36\00:06:18.62 very nice. Now, before we go one moment further 00:06:18.65\00:06:21.12 I've been having great time staying at Jason's house 00:06:21.15\00:06:23.54 and he and I are sort of back and forth on correcting 00:06:24.66\00:06:27.22 one another and I'll say no you pronounced that 00:06:27.25\00:06:28.93 word wrong and he'll say, no you pronounced that 00:06:28.96\00:06:30.48 word wrong and we're back and forth, 00:06:30.51\00:06:31.85 always sort of trying to one up one another in good 00:06:31.88\00:06:34.33 humor and I think I'm way ahead of him though, 00:06:35.01\00:06:37.56 way ahead. Anyway I do need to make a public 00:06:37.59\00:06:41.39 declaration, I declared yesterday or maybe it was 00:06:41.42\00:06:45.14 two days ago that it was the Roman emperor Diocletian 00:06:45.17\00:06:48.00 who had put John into the cauldron of boiling oil, 00:06:48.03\00:06:52.21 it was not Diocletian as Jason reminded me, 00:06:52.24\00:06:55.34 it was Domitian and so I just wanna go on record 00:06:55.37\00:06:58.23 of saying Jason was right. 00:06:58.26\00:07:00.44 Amen Amen. Alright, well we have a wonderful 00:07:00.47\00:07:06.63 message in store for you this evening, it's 00:07:06.86\00:07:08.13 entitled Creation, Father God or Mother Nature, 00:07:08.76\00:07:12.09 Creation, Father God or Mother Nature and I think 00:07:12.59\00:07:15.07 you're going to find this message very encouraging, 00:07:15.10\00:07:16.90 very challenging and very stimulating and hopefully 00:07:16.93\00:07:20.50 you will also find it very motivating. Creation, 00:07:20.53\00:07:23.34 Father God or Mother Nature. Now before we get into 00:07:23.37\00:07:26.46 the message proper what is it our custom to do? 00:07:26.49\00:07:29.63 Pray. Pray. That's right. So, let's begin with a word 00:07:29.86\00:07:31.86 of prayer together. Father in Heaven, we invite your 00:07:31.89\00:07:37.02 presence to be with us now. Father, 00:07:37.05\00:07:40.05 you have set the stage for this meeting to take place. 00:07:40.08\00:07:42.79 The story that Jason has told about his father 00:07:42.82\00:07:46.58 and the way that he treated his children, 00:07:46.61\00:07:49.54 he communicated accurately a picture of you. 00:07:49.57\00:07:51.89 And Father, the song that Buddy sang, 00:07:52.89\00:07:54.25 what a powerful song, what a poignant song that shows us 00:07:54.28\00:07:57.64 that we are not the descendents of some 00:07:57.67\00:08:00.52 primordial unicellular organism, but we are fresh 00:08:00.55\00:08:04.62 from the hands of the Creator. Father, 00:08:04.65\00:08:07.74 tonight as we discuss this potentially divisive 00:08:07.77\00:08:11.13 and certainly controversial topic. 00:08:11.16\00:08:13.17 We pray that our hearts would be surrendered to you 00:08:14.01\00:08:16.45 and that we would come to know at the close of this 00:08:17.02\00:08:19.01 meeting that we have a Creator and a Father. 00:08:19.04\00:08:22.60 Be with us now we ask, for we come to you in Jesus 00:08:23.69\00:08:26.84 name and everyone can say Amen. Amen. 00:08:26.87\00:08:30.59 Friends, I want to begin by letting you know 00:08:32.63\00:08:35.53 that our picture of God is informed by our, 00:08:35.56\00:08:41.12 how shall we say this? Our picture of our heavenly 00:08:41.37\00:08:43.23 Father would be largely informed by our earthly 00:08:43.26\00:08:45.49 father. Now as you look to the screen here you 00:08:45.52\00:08:48.02 will notice two of the most handsome boys 00:08:48.05\00:08:50.17 you have ever seen in your entire life. 00:08:50.20\00:08:52.07 I've never seen two more handsome boys 00:08:52.10\00:08:55.14 ever and these are my two boys here. 00:08:55.17\00:08:57.37 The one on your right is Landon, he is my oldest 00:08:57.40\00:09:00.08 and then the youngest is Jabel. Jabel is actually 00:09:00.11\00:09:03.16 named after a young man who is just 21 years old, 00:09:03.19\00:09:05.47 who is planting churches right now in Sudan, 00:09:06.07\00:09:08.96 and so we named him after Jabel hoping that he will be 00:09:08.99\00:09:11.88 that kind of a missionary worker for God. 00:09:11.91\00:09:13.91 Now, the picture I hope that I am communicating 00:09:13.94\00:09:17.23 to both Landon and Jabel of their heavenly Father 00:09:17.26\00:09:19.96 is one of love, one of kindness, magnanimity 00:09:19.99\00:09:23.97 and benevolence. My youngest son or my oldest son 00:09:24.00\00:09:27.37 rather is a very trusting person, ever since he was a 00:09:27.40\00:09:30.84 young boy and I'm sure some of the doctors 00:09:30.87\00:09:32.47 aren't going to like this very much, 00:09:32.50\00:09:33.75 but ever since he was very small I would you know 00:09:33.78\00:09:36.03 very gently start to sort of toss him into the air, 00:09:36.06\00:09:38.87 you know how we do where? Over the bed always, 00:09:38.90\00:09:41.36 mothers don't worry. Over the bed and then as he 00:09:41.39\00:09:44.75 got a little older and firmer and muscles got bigger 00:09:44.78\00:09:47.33 and stronger, you know, I toss him a little higher 00:09:47.36\00:09:49.75 and at first he be scared, but I'd catch every time. 00:09:49.78\00:09:52.19 Now the only problem is that now we have developed 00:09:52.22\00:09:55.51 such a bond of trust that I find my boy doing 00:09:55.54\00:09:59.11 things that probably are not in his best interest. 00:09:59.14\00:10:01.57 For example, he will have no hesitation in just getting 00:10:01.60\00:10:06.15 on top of the largest rock and jumping toward 00:10:06.18\00:10:09.19 me as quickly as he can, now most of the time 00:10:09.22\00:10:12.69 I catch him. No, I'm just kidding, all of the time 00:10:12.72\00:10:15.95 I catch him, but the point here is just this. 00:10:15.98\00:10:18.68 My oldest son and I, Landon we have developed 00:10:18.71\00:10:21.53 such a bond because I catch him in every instance. 00:10:21.56\00:10:25.75 When I throw him I'm there for him, 00:10:25.78\00:10:27.78 when we go walking I support him, I take care of him 00:10:27.81\00:10:30.86 and in doing this by the grace of God I'm trying 00:10:30.89\00:10:33.38 to give him a picture of the way that our heavenly 00:10:33.41\00:10:36.10 Father cares for us. There are many people today 00:10:36.13\00:10:38.94 that wonder what God is like? Some people wonder 00:10:38.97\00:10:42.07 if there even is a God at all? When Jesus came to this 00:10:42.10\00:10:46.73 planet he revolutionized the way that we think 00:10:46.76\00:10:50.08 of God. When Jesus came to this planet, 00:10:50.11\00:10:53.02 he showed that God was not some vindictive exacter, 00:10:53.05\00:10:56.29 not some creditor that was just out to tag you out 00:10:56.32\00:10:59.46 at every moment. He showed that God had a personal 00:10:59.49\00:11:02.51 interest in us, he said things like this. 00:11:02.54\00:11:05.54 The very hairs of your head are what? 00:11:05.57\00:11:08.75 Numbered. Numbered, isn't that remarkable? Amen. 00:11:09.62\00:11:11.21 He also said a sparrow does not fall to the ground, 00:11:11.24\00:11:14.87 except your heavenly Father takes notice now. 00:11:14.90\00:11:17.38 Now I take real consolation in that because 00:11:17.41\00:11:19.51 I am a bird watcher and my wife and I are birders 00:11:19.54\00:11:21.66 and so we love the fact that God is a bird 00:11:21.69\00:11:24.41 watcher too. Amen? Amen. 00:11:24.44\00:11:26.02 I love the song that says his eye is on the Sparrow. 00:11:26.05\00:11:29.11 Jesus himself said, consider the ravens and so Jesus 00:11:29.58\00:11:32.09 he turned the whole picture of what, what, 00:11:32.12\00:11:35.15 the picture that we have of God he turned it around. 00:11:35.18\00:11:37.49 He also said things like this, when his disciples came 00:11:37.52\00:11:40.75 to him and said Lord teach us to pray. 00:11:40.78\00:11:42.93 We want to pray like you pray, he said this is how 00:11:42.96\00:11:45.81 you should pray. What was the first words 00:11:45.84\00:11:47.91 that he said? Our Father, who art in heaven, 00:11:47.94\00:11:52.31 hallowed be the name. What Jesus did here is he took 00:11:52.34\00:11:55.34 God out of that sort of ethereal, nebulous, 00:11:55.37\00:11:58.83 heavenly realm and he brought him down into 00:11:58.86\00:12:01.97 the tangible, knowable reality. He brought him 00:12:02.00\00:12:05.50 down not in terms of condescension, 00:12:05.53\00:12:07.94 but he brought him down and he said he is not just 00:12:07.97\00:12:10.26 a God often the distance nether reaches 00:12:10.29\00:12:12.50 of the universe, but he is your Father. 00:12:12.53\00:12:14.41 He has a personal interest in you, in your family, 00:12:14.44\00:12:18.40 in your welfare and in your well being, 00:12:18.43\00:12:20.38 that's the picture that we have of God in the Bible. 00:12:20.41\00:12:23.37 You know friends what we are going to learn today 00:12:24.40\00:12:26.22 is that there are many things in the world that are, 00:12:26.25\00:12:28.76 that are purporting and are attempting to actually 00:12:28.79\00:12:31.61 take away that caring magnanimous picture 00:12:31.64\00:12:35.05 that we have of our heavenly Father. 00:12:35.08\00:12:36.49 Probably the single most powerful force that 00:12:37.11\00:12:41.14 is in the world today that is trying to rob us of our 00:12:41.17\00:12:43.99 picture of benevolent paternal Father the concept 00:12:44.02\00:12:48.91 and the theory of evolution. Our message title is 00:12:49.52\00:12:52.48 very pointed and I want to remind you of it again. 00:12:52.51\00:12:54.58 The message is Creation, Father God or Mother 00:12:54.61\00:12:58.88 Nature. I personally believe that there has been no 00:12:58.91\00:13:02.25 modern philosophy, no modern world view that has done 00:13:02.28\00:13:06.73 more to undermine our picture of God and his existence 00:13:06.76\00:13:10.93 than the world view and the theory of evolution. 00:13:10.96\00:13:14.18 So we must ask the question then is evolution true? 00:13:14.74\00:13:17.48 And if it is true, is it compatible with what the 00:13:18.22\00:13:20.89 Bible teaches and we're going to discuss that as 00:13:20.92\00:13:22.87 we commence this evening. Let's begin by noting here 00:13:22.90\00:13:25.34 on the screen that the Bible affirms in 00:13:25.37\00:13:28.10 unequivocal language that God is the Creator. 00:13:28.13\00:13:31.41 That God is what word did I say? The Creator. 00:13:31.44\00:13:33.82 The Creator, note with me in Genesis chapter 1, 00:13:33.85\00:13:35.53 lets go to a passage of scripture that we all know 00:13:35.56\00:13:37.52 very well. Genesis and what Chapter are we going to? 00:13:37.55\00:13:40.53 Chapter 1. Genesis chapter 1, 00:13:40.56\00:13:42.69 now I'm beginning in verse 1. Genesis chapter 1 00:13:42.72\00:13:45.55 and verse 1, you should have no problem finding 00:13:45.58\00:13:47.34 Genesis, it's the first book in the Bible. 00:13:47.37\00:13:49.75 Genesis chapter 1, beginning in verse 1 it says, 00:13:50.55\00:13:52.70 in the beginning God created the what? 00:13:53.51\00:13:56.03 The heavens and the earth, now notice that's 00:13:56.06\00:13:58.50 the very first introduction that we have to God 00:13:58.53\00:14:01.13 in the Bible. "In the beginning God created," 00:14:01.16\00:14:04.20 here we see God as Creator, as what word did I say? 00:14:04.80\00:14:08.06 Creator. Verse 2 the earth was without form, 00:14:08.09\00:14:10.55 and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. 00:14:10.58\00:14:12.43 And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face 00:14:12.82\00:14:14.66 of the waters then God said, let there be light 00:14:14.69\00:14:17.51 and there was light. Right here in the opening verses, 00:14:17.54\00:14:21.00 the opening chapter of the Bible, we find God being 00:14:21.03\00:14:24.62 affirmed as the Creator, so note here on the screen. 00:14:24.65\00:14:27.11 The Bible presents God in unmistakable language 00:14:27.14\00:14:30.65 as the Creator of heaven, earth and everything 00:14:30.68\00:14:34.97 in them. Let us note a few other passages 00:14:35.00\00:14:37.79 that will help to buttress this idea that God is 00:14:37.82\00:14:40.11 in fact our Creator. Go with me from the book 00:14:40.14\00:14:42.49 of Genesis to the book of Psalms. 00:14:42.52\00:14:43.96 What book are we going to everyone? Psalms. 00:14:44.84\00:14:46.89 Psalms. Right toward the middle of your Bible 00:14:46.92\00:14:48.33 and we're going to Psalm 33. There are literally 00:14:48.36\00:14:50.34 100s of passages that we could sight, 00:14:50.37\00:14:52.79 but we're going to go to Psalm chapter 33, 00:14:52.82\00:14:56.21 Psalm 33 and I'm going to begin in verse 6. 00:14:56.24\00:14:58.46 Psalm 33 and verse 6, the Psalms writes these words, 00:14:59.13\00:15:03.64 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, 00:15:03.67\00:15:06.91 the heavens were what everyone? Made. 00:15:06.94\00:15:09.85 Made, note also, all the host of them by the breath 00:15:09.88\00:15:13.05 of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea 00:15:13.08\00:15:15.48 together as a heap, he lays up the deep in 00:15:15.51\00:15:18.17 storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD, let 00:15:18.20\00:15:20.87 all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 00:15:20.90\00:15:24.53 Verse 9, For he spoke and it was done, 00:15:24.56\00:15:27.04 he commanded and it stood fast. Amen. 00:15:27.07\00:15:30.27 The picture that we have here of God is one 00:15:31.01\00:15:33.60 in which he creates and when he creates let me just 00:15:33.63\00:15:36.34 note quickly and carefully that when he creates 00:15:36.37\00:15:38.44 it is not through a process, but through an 00:15:38.47\00:15:40.93 instantaneous act of creation, notice that again 00:15:40.96\00:15:43.93 in verse 6, by the word of the Lord the heavens 00:15:43.96\00:15:46.27 were made and all the host of them by the breath 00:15:46.30\00:15:48.75 of this mouth, by the word they were made. 00:15:48.78\00:15:51.12 Now, notice verse 9, for he spoke 00:15:51.76\00:15:53.36 and it was set in motion. is that what it says. He 00:15:53.39\00:15:57.69 spoken was done, he commanded and it took a while. 00:15:57.72\00:16:02.04 It stood fast. It stood fast, so notice here not 00:16:03.33\00:16:05.20 only in Genesis, but also in the book of Psalms, 00:16:05.23\00:16:07.25 the great hymn book of the Old Testament, 00:16:07.28\00:16:09.10 God is, God is shown to us, he is pictured to us 00:16:09.13\00:16:13.32 as the Creator, as the what word everyone? 00:16:13.35\00:16:16.99 Creator. We're going to emphasize that again 00:16:17.02\00:16:19.08 and again this evening. Now go with me to the Book 00:16:19.11\00:16:21.01 of Isaiah, one of the major prophets. 00:16:21.04\00:16:23.08 Isaiah chapter 45, Isaiah chapter 45, 00:16:23.11\00:16:28.36 and notice with me just one verse here in Isaiah 45, 00:16:28.39\00:16:31.19 I'm noting verse 18. Isaiah chapter 45 in verse 18, 00:16:31.22\00:16:35.25 for thus says the Lord, who created the heavens; 00:16:35.28\00:16:40.83 who what the heavens everyone? Created. 00:16:40.86\00:16:43.48 Created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth 00:16:43.51\00:16:46.57 and made it, who established it, who did not create it 00:16:46.60\00:16:50.31 in vain, who formed it to be inhabited. 00:16:50.34\00:16:53.26 Why did he formed it everyone? To be inhabited. 00:16:53.29\00:16:56.04 I am the Lord and there is no other, 00:16:56.07\00:16:58.54 notice here again in Isaiah 45 in verse 18, 00:16:58.57\00:17:00.64 the Prophet Isaiah affirms in unequivocal, 00:17:00.67\00:17:03.98 unmistakable language that God created 00:17:04.01\00:17:06.35 and when he created, it was an instantaneous act, 00:17:06.38\00:17:09.60 he commanded it was done, he spoke and it stood fast. 00:17:09.63\00:17:12.98 This is the picture that we have not, 00:17:14.52\00:17:15.85 just in Genesis, Psalms and Isaiah. 00:17:15.88\00:17:17.32 This is the picture that runs as a thread through 00:17:17.35\00:17:19.69 the entire cannon of scripture from Genesis 00:17:19.72\00:17:22.38 to Malachi in the Old Testament and from Matthew 00:17:22.41\00:17:24.42 to Genesis or to Revelation in the New Testament. 00:17:24.45\00:17:27.28 In both testaments, God is presented as the Creator. 00:17:27.31\00:17:30.83 Now go with me to one of the most powerful 00:17:32.24\00:17:33.76 New Testament text to this effect and this is actually 00:17:33.79\00:17:36.62 from the Fourth Gospel, the Gospel of John. 00:17:36.65\00:17:38.79 And here the Gospel writer John does something 00:17:39.52\00:17:41.91 very powerful and something very theologically 00:17:41.94\00:17:43.96 significant. He actually enlarges upon the language 00:17:43.99\00:17:46.99 that we saw there in Genesis chapter 1. 00:17:47.02\00:17:49.04 He broadens that language and he incorporates a 00:17:49.07\00:17:52.40 significant element into it. John chapter 1 beginning 00:17:52.43\00:17:56.23 in verse 1, John chapter 1 beginning in verse 1. 00:17:56.26\00:17:58.97 Now remember, what were the first words of Genesis 00:17:59.00\00:18:01.09 chapter 1, what were those first words? 00:18:01.12\00:18:02.53 In the beginning, in the beginning and what 00:18:02.56\00:18:05.84 was the next word? God. God. Now notice what John 00:18:05.87\00:18:08.93 does in John chapter 1 beginning in verse 1, 00:18:08.96\00:18:11.33 it says in the beginning, there is the same three words 00:18:11.36\00:18:14.76 that's how he begins his even galleon. 00:18:14.79\00:18:16.66 In the beginning was the what? The word, the logos, 00:18:16.69\00:18:23.16 notice what he says about this word, this logos, 00:18:23.19\00:18:26.10 in the beginning was the word and the word was with God 00:18:26.13\00:18:30.25 and the word was, what's the next word there? 00:18:30.28\00:18:33.95 God. God. Notice verse 2, he was in the beginning 00:18:33.98\00:18:36.93 with God. Verse 3, all things were, what's the next word 00:18:36.96\00:18:41.32 Made. Made through him and without him nothing 00:18:42.34\00:18:44.03 was made that was made. What John is doing here is he is, 00:18:44.06\00:18:46.97 he is drawing on that powerful sublime language 00:18:47.00\00:18:49.87 of Genesis 1 and he is saying that Jesus was actually 00:18:49.90\00:18:53.15 the vehicle, the conduit through which God created. 00:18:53.18\00:18:57.17 Notice that again in verse 3, it says all things 00:18:58.46\00:19:00.45 were made what's that word there? By him. 00:19:00.48\00:19:02.77 Through or by him. So, Genesis 1:1 affirms that God 00:19:03.39\00:19:07.36 is Creator and John 1:1 affirms that God created 00:19:07.39\00:19:10.90 and the conduit or the vehicle, the mechanism 00:19:10.93\00:19:14.11 through which he created was Jesus Christ. 00:19:14.14\00:19:16.89 Notice here on the screen with me, God was the Creator, 00:19:17.64\00:19:20.95 but when he created it was through Jesus Christ. 00:19:20.98\00:19:25.04 It was what everyone? Through. Through 00:19:25.07\00:19:27.49 Jesus Christ, as a matter of fact if you remember 00:19:27.52\00:19:29.24 there in Genesis chapter 1 the first two verses it said, 00:19:29.27\00:19:32.27 and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. 00:19:32.30\00:19:35.57 Not only was the Father involved in creation, 00:19:36.24\00:19:38.74 not only was the Son involved in creation, 00:19:38.77\00:19:41.75 but the Spirit was also intimately involved in the 00:19:41.78\00:19:45.12 act of creation, and so you have all three members 00:19:45.15\00:19:47.38 of the God head, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working 00:19:47.41\00:19:50.56 together harmoniously, synchronously 00:19:50.59\00:19:53.28 to create the heavens and the earth. 00:19:53.31\00:19:55.55 Are you with me? Yes or no? We are. 00:19:55.58\00:19:57.55 Powerful, now you're still there in John chapter 1 00:19:57.85\00:19:59.58 and notice with me verse 10, John chapter 1 00:19:59.61\00:20:01.75 and verse 10. It says, he was in the world, 00:20:01.78\00:20:04.48 this is speaking of the incarnation of Jesus, 00:20:04.51\00:20:06.65 he was in the world and the world was made, 00:20:06.68\00:20:11.26 what everyone? Through him. 00:20:11.29\00:20:13.34 Through him and there it is again, and the world did 00:20:13.37\00:20:15.59 not know him, verse 11 must be one of the saddest 00:20:15.62\00:20:17.83 verses in all of the Bible, it says he came to his own 00:20:17.86\00:20:21.26 and his own did not receive him. 00:20:21.29\00:20:24.47 What is John trying to do here at the beginning 00:20:26.24\00:20:28.07 of his Gospel, he is, he is affirming number one 00:20:28.10\00:20:30.95 that God is Creator, number two, he is affirming 00:20:30.98\00:20:33.78 that the word was with God and that the word 00:20:33.81\00:20:36.05 was God and number three, he is affirming 00:20:36.08\00:20:38.04 that that word that logos, Jesus Christ in the 00:20:38.07\00:20:41.74 flesh was the Creator, the instrument through 00:20:41.77\00:20:44.95 which God created in the beginning. Amen. 00:20:44.98\00:20:47.79 Now, let's continue to unpack this, the significance 00:20:48.92\00:20:50.64 here is very important and I want you to go with me 00:20:50.67\00:20:52.77 from John to the other significant book, 00:20:52.80\00:20:55.45 one of the other significant books written by the same 00:20:55.48\00:20:57.58 author and that's the Book of Revelation. 00:20:57.61\00:20:58.97 Go with me to Revelation chapter 4, 00:20:59.00\00:21:01.40 Revelation chapter 4. Now if we had time 00:21:02.14\00:21:06.09 and I wish we did we could go into great detail 00:21:06.12\00:21:08.50 in Revelation chapter 4 about what's taking place 00:21:08.53\00:21:11.18 here, if you read Revelation chapter 4 through 00:21:11.21\00:21:14.12 you will note that the word that comes up over 00:21:14.15\00:21:16.13 and over again in that chapter is the word throne. 00:21:16.16\00:21:19.63 Is the word what everyone? 00:21:19.66\00:21:21.38 Throne and the whole context of Revelation 4 00:21:21.41\00:21:24.96 revolves around the throne, the significance 00:21:24.99\00:21:26.95 of the throne and him that sits on the throne. 00:21:26.98\00:21:28.85 It occurs a number of times, I think even more then 00:21:28.88\00:21:31.61 10 times. The throne, the throne, the throne, 00:21:31.64\00:21:34.18 the throne, now what I want you to notice is 00:21:34.21\00:21:36.66 beginning in verse 9 it says whenever 00:21:36.69\00:21:39.51 the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks 00:21:39.54\00:21:41.92 to him who sits on the, what everyone? Throne. 00:21:41.95\00:21:44.91 Throne. Who lives forever and ever, 00:21:44.94\00:21:46.11 the 24 elders fall down and worship him 00:21:46.14\00:21:47.72 who sits on the throne, throne and worships him 00:21:47.75\00:21:51.09 who lives forever and ever and cast their crowns 00:21:51.12\00:21:53.13 before the? Throne. 00:21:53.16\00:21:54.80 Throne saying, now notice what they say in verse 11, 00:21:54.83\00:21:58.50 why are they, why are they worshiping, 00:21:58.53\00:22:00.23 why are they, why are they adoring and giving 00:22:00.26\00:22:02.67 honor and glory to him who sits on the throne. 00:22:02.70\00:22:04.98 What is their reason and rationale, notice verse 11, 00:22:05.01\00:22:08.42 you are worthy, you are what word everyone? 00:22:08.45\00:22:13.70 Worthy. Take that word worthy and put it 00:22:13.73\00:22:15.98 on a shelf in your mind because we're going 00:22:16.01\00:22:17.25 to comeback to it in just a moment. 00:22:17.28\00:22:18.66 The reason they're worshiping, the reason 00:22:18.69\00:22:20.55 they're giving honor and glory and thanksgiving 00:22:20.58\00:22:22.76 to this God that sits on the throne is that he is worthy. 00:22:22.79\00:22:26.32 Now, we might ask legitimate question what makes 00:22:27.47\00:22:30.62 him worthy? Notice this in verse 11, 00:22:30.65\00:22:33.44 you are worthy O Lord to receive glory and honor 00:22:34.04\00:22:37.57 and power for, the word there means because, 00:22:37.60\00:22:42.10 because you what everyone? 00:22:42.13\00:22:45.25 Created. Created all things, you created all things 00:22:45.77\00:22:48.93 and by your Will they exist and were created. 00:22:48.96\00:22:52.53 Now a quick question very easily answered here, 00:22:53.48\00:22:55.61 according to Revelation chapter 4 and verse 11 00:22:55.64\00:22:57.40 why are those multitudinous, that multitudinous strong 00:22:57.43\00:23:01.34 worshiping him who sits on the throne, 00:23:01.37\00:23:03.11 why are they worshiping him? 00:23:03.14\00:23:04.11 Because he is worthy. 00:23:04.12\00:23:06.07 Because he is worthy and what makes him worthy? 00:23:06.10\00:23:07.65 Because he was the Creator. 00:23:07.68\00:23:09.51 He was the Creator. Now think about this for just 00:23:09.54\00:23:10.67 a moment. If Adam had never sinned, 00:23:10.70\00:23:13.81 if Eve and Adam had not been beguiled by the serpent 00:23:14.93\00:23:17.81 and they had lived in that Edenic environment, 00:23:17.84\00:23:21.08 a perfect God and perfect communion with a perfect 00:23:21.11\00:23:23.13 people and sin had not ever entered into this planet 00:23:23.16\00:23:26.15 and say that we are still, we are here now, 00:23:26.18\00:23:28.33 we are alive, we are the descendents of Adam, 00:23:28.36\00:23:30.85 but not the sin degenerate sins of Adam, 00:23:30.88\00:23:33.59 sons of Adam, we are living in a sinless world. 00:23:33.62\00:23:36.81 Now think about this for just a moment, 00:23:37.57\00:23:38.84 would we still worship God? Yes. 00:23:38.87\00:23:41.28 Yes or no. Yes. Would we still give praise to God? 00:23:41.31\00:23:43.97 Amen. Would we give honor to God? Amen. Why? 00:23:44.00\00:23:46.49 Because he is our Creator. Because he is, 00:23:49.72\00:23:50.69 you hit the nail on the head, because he is our Creator. 00:23:50.70\00:23:51.67 Why do the angels worship God? Because he created them. 00:23:52.01\00:23:56.24 Friends, think about that for just a moment, 00:23:57.17\00:23:58.97 if sin had never come into the world we would still 00:23:59.61\00:24:02.25 worship God, we would not worship him though as our 00:24:02.28\00:24:05.21 redeemer because redemption would be unnecessary. 00:24:05.24\00:24:07.42 We would worship him as our Creator 00:24:07.45\00:24:09.24 and he would still be worthy, are you with me now? 00:24:09.27\00:24:11.80 Amen. Now notice this incredible transition 00:24:11.83\00:24:14.29 as we move to Revelation chapter 5, 00:24:14.32\00:24:16.50 that's the very next chapter. Now in Revelation chapter 00:24:16.53\00:24:20.21 4, the preeminent word and the preeminent theme 00:24:20.24\00:24:22.91 is the throne, the throne, the throne, in Revelation 5 00:24:22.94\00:24:27.20 that emphasis switches and the emphasis is now 00:24:27.23\00:24:30.52 on the scroll, on the what word did I say? Scroll 00:24:30.55\00:24:33.78 On the scroll and notice with me now beginning 00:24:33.81\00:24:35.49 in verse 11, then I looked and I heard the voice 00:24:35.52\00:24:37.74 of many angels around the throne, 00:24:37.77\00:24:39.08 the living creatures and the elders and the number 00:24:39.11\00:24:41.09 of them was 10,000 times 10,000 and 1000s 00:24:41.12\00:24:43.60 of 1000s, what John is trying to say here is, 00:24:43.63\00:24:46.02 it was a large number, a vast, multitudinous and 00:24:46.05\00:24:49.53 innumerable strong. Verse 12 saying with a loud voice, 00:24:49.56\00:24:53.03 Worthy, there is that word. Worthy is who everyone? 00:24:54.00\00:24:58.71 The Lamb. Worthy is the Lamb who was, 00:24:58.74\00:25:02.01 what's the next word? Slain. 00:25:02.04\00:25:04.48 Slain to receive power and riches and strength 00:25:04.51\00:25:06.40 and honor and glory and blessing. 00:25:06.43\00:25:08.04 Notice the similarity with 5:12 and 4:11, let me read 00:25:08.07\00:25:11.62 them back to back. 5:12 says worthy is the Lamb 00:25:11.65\00:25:13.98 who is slain to receive power and riches 00:25:14.01\00:25:15.58 and wisdom and strength and honor and glory 00:25:15.61\00:25:16.99 and blessing. 4:11 says, you are worthy of Lord 00:25:17.02\00:25:19.38 to receive glory and honor and power for you created 00:25:19.41\00:25:21.88 all things and by your will they exist and were created. 00:25:21.91\00:25:24.12 Do you see similarities there? Yes or no? 00:25:24.15\00:25:26.22 Yes, Amen. There are so many similar words 00:25:26.25\00:25:28.55 and the concept is inescapable. God 00:25:28.58\00:25:30.70 is worthy to be worshiped, God alone is worthy 00:25:30.73\00:25:34.37 of our adoration, praise, honor, glory, 00:25:34.40\00:25:36.31 blessing and worship and in Revelation 4 it's 00:25:36.34\00:25:38.68 because he is a creator and in Revelation 00:25:38.71\00:25:40.50 5 it's because he is redeemer. Amen. 00:25:40.53\00:25:43.06 Now think about that for just a moment, 00:25:43.09\00:25:44.66 what John here is doing is as we see this scene 00:25:44.69\00:25:48.42 that transpired in the heavenly courts, 00:25:48.45\00:25:50.21 what John here is showing is that God as Creator 00:25:50.24\00:25:53.65 and God as Redeemer is the same God and these two 00:25:53.68\00:25:58.12 components, these two elements of his character 00:25:58.15\00:26:00.50 are inexorably intertwine. In other words you 00:26:00.53\00:26:05.33 can't wrestle them apart and say over here 00:26:05.36\00:26:08.65 I worship God because he is Creator and over he 00:26:08.68\00:26:11.03 is Redeemer, these two things have been joined 00:26:11.06\00:26:14.17 together and that God is joined together let not 00:26:14.20\00:26:16.47 man put this under. Amen. 00:26:16.50\00:26:18.31 Now you say well what's the significance, 00:26:18.34\00:26:20.15 I don't follow the significance, 00:26:20.18\00:26:21.35 let me do my very best to unpack it for you. Friends, 00:26:21.38\00:26:24.63 the reason that you and I worship God is because 00:26:24.66\00:26:27.37 number one, he created us and number two 00:26:27.40\00:26:30.07 he redeemed us, Amen. Amen. 00:26:30.10\00:26:31.96 Friends, if you begin to pull the rug out from underneath 00:26:32.78\00:26:35.62 God his creative capacities, in his creative faculties, 00:26:35.65\00:26:40.23 you are actually undermining the same God whom 00:26:40.26\00:26:43.48 we worship because of his redemptive capacities. 00:26:43.51\00:26:46.12 Amen. In other words to take away from God his 00:26:46.15\00:26:49.94 creative power, his creative majesty and significance 00:26:49.97\00:26:53.75 is just to pull the rug out from underneath his 00:26:53.78\00:26:56.43 redemptive power and his redemptive significance. 00:26:56.46\00:26:59.06 God is both Creator and Redeemer. Amen. 00:26:59.09\00:27:02.95 Now, think about that for just a moment, 00:27:04.76\00:27:06.25 if we say well you know God created, 00:27:06.28\00:27:09.68 but he created through long evolutionary long ages, 00:27:09.71\00:27:13.38 millions and multiplied billions of years. 00:27:13.41\00:27:16.34 Let's just pretend like that's the case, 00:27:16.37\00:27:17.87 I don't believe that's the case, I believe what 00:27:17.90\00:27:19.83 the Bible says, he spoken and it was done, 00:27:19.86\00:27:21.93 he commanded and it stood fast. Amen. 00:27:21.96\00:27:24.90 By the way the technical term here is Creation 00:27:24.93\00:27:28.12 Ex Nihilo, Ex Nihilo, it's the Latin from creation 00:27:28.15\00:27:32.82 out that's Ex, like you see a sign here, if it says Ex, 00:27:32.85\00:27:35.92 exit it means out of, that's what the prefix Ex means 00:27:35.95\00:27:39.38 in the Latin out of and Nihilo is nothing. 00:27:39.41\00:27:41.51 So the technical term for the way that God created 00:27:43.25\00:27:45.58 is he created Ex Nihilo out of nothing and the other 00:27:45.61\00:27:48.93 technical term Fiat creation it means instantaneous, 00:27:48.96\00:27:52.43 on the spot, immediate creation out of not 00:27:52.46\00:27:56.65 preexisting matter, but out of nothing. Amen. 00:27:56.68\00:28:00.04 He spoken and it was done, he commanded and it 00:28:00.07\00:28:02.83 stood fast, but let's just pretend like God did create 00:28:02.86\00:28:05.17 these evolutionarily long ages, how does that inform 00:28:05.20\00:28:07.93 our picture of God? Well, let me tell you something, 00:28:07.96\00:28:10.82 the next time you fall on your face and you make a fool 00:28:10.85\00:28:15.15 out of yourself and you commit a sin. 00:28:15.18\00:28:16.99 You never let the Lord down do you? No. 00:28:18.50\00:28:20.98 You ever let the Lord down friends? No. 00:28:21.01\00:28:23.33 Do you ever said oh Lord I'll never do that again only 00:28:23.36\00:28:25.52 do it before the cock crows three times. Amen. 00:28:25.55\00:28:27.85 Friends, think about that, the next time you come 00:28:27.88\00:28:31.09 to the Lord and you're kneeling down there by your 00:28:31.12\00:28:32.81 bedside and you say oh! Father you have promised in 00:28:32.84\00:28:35.39 First John 1:9, if we confess our sins, you are faithful 00:28:35.42\00:28:38.13 and just to forgive us our sins and he says okay 00:28:38.16\00:28:40.56 I'll forgive your sins, but I'm gonna let them evolve 00:28:40.59\00:28:43.27 away. It will take 4.5 billion years and your sin 00:28:43.30\00:28:48.66 will have evolved away into nothing. 00:28:48.69\00:28:50.80 Is that the God you serve friends? No. 00:28:50.83\00:28:52.83 Friends listen, the moment that we begin to 00:28:52.86\00:28:54.97 doubt that God could have created in a moment, 00:28:55.00\00:28:57.29 in a second instantaneously, Ex Nihilo, Fiat creation, 00:28:57.32\00:29:01.37 we are going to be begin to doubt his ability 00:29:01.40\00:29:04.04 to forgive us instantaneously. Friends, 00:29:04.07\00:29:07.49 the act of creation is almost synonymous with the act 00:29:07.52\00:29:10.99 of redemption, in fact David actually married 00:29:11.02\00:29:13.62 these two concepts in Psalms 51 in verse 10 00:29:13.65\00:29:16.49 when he said, create in me a clean heart oh! 00:29:16.52\00:29:20.80 God and renew a right spirit within me. 00:29:20.83\00:29:22.65 Dave marries these two terms, 00:29:22.68\00:29:24.57 David marries these two terms of creation 00:29:24.60\00:29:27.06 and redemption. The creation of what kind of a heart? 00:29:27.09\00:29:31.59 A pure heart or a clean heart. 00:29:31.62\00:29:34.14 Now let us continue to unpack this, 00:29:34.17\00:29:37.85 but go with me to the screen as we do our very best 00:29:37.88\00:29:39.97 to set stage for what we're discovering this evening. 00:29:41.60\00:29:43.59 Evolution is at odds with the Bible on many fronts, 00:29:43.62\00:29:48.45 including: these are just a few, the age of the earth, 00:29:48.48\00:29:52.34 the creation of man, and the nature of death. 00:29:53.33\00:29:56.51 Evolution is at odds with the Bible on many fronts, 00:29:57.49\00:30:00.83 well you say, what is evolution? Let's define it. 00:30:01.47\00:30:05.38 This is actually taken from an official statement, 00:30:06.15\00:30:08.44 a 1995 official statement from the National 00:30:08.47\00:30:10.63 Association of Biology Teachers, 00:30:10.66\00:30:12.31 Biology and Science Teachers in North America. 00:30:12.34\00:30:14.17 This is the scientific, one of the officially agreed upon 00:30:14.96\00:30:18.32 scientific definitions of evolution and here it is. 00:30:18.35\00:30:21.19 The diversity of life on earth is the outcome 00:30:22.32\00:30:25.55 of evolution: an unsupervised, impersonal, 00:30:25.58\00:30:30.85 unpredictable and natural process of temporal 00:30:30.88\00:30:35.01 descent with genetic modification. 00:30:35.04\00:30:37.42 Now the two words I really want you to hold 00:30:37.45\00:30:40.54 in on there, are these two words, unsupervised 00:30:40.57\00:30:43.97 and what's the next word there? Impersonal. 00:30:44.00\00:30:46.27 Impersonal, do you see what they are communicating? 00:30:46.30\00:30:48.73 Yes or no? The whole concept of evolution 00:30:48.76\00:30:51.95 is that there is a process, what word did I say? 00:30:51.98\00:30:55.70 A process. What kind of a process. 00:30:55.73\00:30:58.09 An unsupervised and impersonal process that has 00:30:59.05\00:31:03.16 been moving down through ions and millions, 00:31:03.19\00:31:06.70 multiplied billions of years, nobody is in charge 00:31:06.73\00:31:09.95 of the process, nobody set the process in motion, 00:31:09.98\00:31:13.06 motion, the very definition of evolution is that it is 00:31:13.09\00:31:16.20 unsupervised and impersonal. Now think about this 00:31:16.23\00:31:20.14 for just a moment, some people are telling us 00:31:20.17\00:31:23.78 that God created through evolution, 00:31:23.81\00:31:27.32 we'll talk about that in just a moment. The actual 00:31:27.35\00:31:29.80 technical term here is theistic evolution, 00:31:29.83\00:31:33.49 theistic evolution and that's just the juxtaposition 00:31:33.52\00:31:36.47 of two words, Theos, which is God and Evolution, 00:31:36.50\00:31:39.56 which is the process that we've just described here. 00:31:39.59\00:31:41.41 So, it's God centered and God initiated evolution. 00:31:41.44\00:31:44.54 Friends, what I'm trying to tell you right now 00:31:45.00\00:31:46.13 is this is a non-meaningful statement. Amen. 00:31:46.16\00:31:49.70 To talk about an unsupervised, impersonal process 00:31:49.73\00:31:52.84 that is supervised by a personal God, 00:31:52.87\00:31:54.80 that's a non-meaningful statement. That's right. 00:31:54.83\00:31:57.13 Do you understand? Yes or no? Amen. 00:31:57.16\00:31:58.59 We're dealing here with squircles. 00:31:59.40\00:32:00.73 You say what's a squircle? A squircle friends is a 00:32:02.57\00:32:06.56 square circle. Right, in, in, in, in Euclidean geometry, 00:32:06.59\00:32:13.74 that is to say plane geometry, a square is a geometric 00:32:13.77\00:32:19.07 figure that has four right angles and four equal sides. 00:32:19.10\00:32:21.65 Are you with me on that? Right. 00:32:22.31\00:32:23.45 Now a circle is a geometrical figure and again 00:32:23.48\00:32:26.06 in Euclidean geometry, a planar geometry, 00:32:26.09\00:32:28.11 where you put a point in the middle, 00:32:28.14\00:32:30.10 the epicenter and every bit, every space on that 00:32:30.13\00:32:34.24 geometrical figure is equidistant from the center. 00:32:34.27\00:32:37.16 Right. Now if you have a circle and then you have 00:32:38.12\00:32:40.12 a square, these are mutually exclusive geometrical 00:32:40.15\00:32:43.73 figures. Do you understand that? Yes or no? 00:32:43.76\00:32:45.43 So, the concept of a square circle or a squircle 00:32:46.17\00:32:49.01 is non-meaningful. That's exactly what we are talking 00:32:49.04\00:32:53.16 about when we say theistic evolution. 00:32:53.19\00:32:55.57 God supervised evolution, the very definition 00:32:56.03\00:32:58.40 of evolution is that it is unsupervised and impersonal, 00:32:58.43\00:33:01.58 it's like trying to take a square and a circle and call 00:33:01.61\00:33:04.07 it a squircle. Friends you can call it a squircle, 00:33:04.10\00:33:06.24 but it doesn't mean that the actual geometrical 00:33:06.27\00:33:08.11 figure is a possibility. Amen. 00:33:08.14\00:33:10.73 Are you understanding? Yes, Amen. 00:33:10.76\00:33:12.33 Now you say well why does it matter, 00:33:12.36\00:33:14.89 I don't understand, what's the significance? 00:33:14.92\00:33:16.42 Notice this second definition from George Gaylord 00:33:16.45\00:33:18.77 Simpson, he said "Man is the result of a purposeless 00:33:18.80\00:33:23.19 and natural process that did not have him in mind." 00:33:23.22\00:33:28.00 What do you think is the operative word there? 00:33:28.78\00:33:30.13 Purposeless. Man is the product of a purposeless 00:33:31.53\00:33:35.49 and natural process that did not have him in mind, 00:33:35.52\00:33:38.67 friends this is the definition of evolution. 00:33:38.70\00:33:41.83 It's the what word did I say? The definition of evolution, 00:33:42.52\00:33:45.82 now note here with me. According to evolutionary 00:33:46.62\00:33:49.05 psychology, this is actually taken from an article 00:33:49.08\00:33:51.77 in Time Magazine, August 15, 1994 and the title 00:33:51.80\00:33:54.71 of the article was actually the cover article, 00:33:54.74\00:33:56.35 Infidelity: It May Be In Our Genes. 00:33:56.38\00:34:00.07 Notice this quotation from the article. 00:34:00.10\00:34:01.83 According to evolutionary psychology, 00:34:01.86\00:34:03.84 it is 'natural' for both men and women at some times, 00:34:03.87\00:34:08.04 under some circumstances to commit adultery. 00:34:08.07\00:34:11.56 Do you understand what's being communicated here? 00:34:11.59\00:34:14.96 What's happening is, is that if evolution is true 00:34:14.99\00:34:18.23 friends, it's not just like saying, well 00:34:18.26\00:34:20.31 God created through millions and multiplied billions 00:34:20.34\00:34:23.11 of years. It totally changes the landscape of our picture 00:34:23.14\00:34:27.25 of God, our picture of society, our picture of 00:34:27.28\00:34:30.69 reality. Do you understand how different it is to say that 00:34:32.05\00:34:34.61 our loving God in Eden stooped down and formed Adam 00:34:34.64\00:34:38.56 out of the dust and picked up that lifeless corpse 00:34:38.59\00:34:41.11 and in an act of intimacy breathed into his nostrils 00:34:41.14\00:34:45.24 the breath of life, how different that is then there 00:34:45.27\00:34:48.09 was a unicellular organism that became a multicellular 00:34:48.12\00:34:50.95 organism, that eventually became by some miraculous 00:34:50.98\00:34:54.07 manifestation an amphibian, and then a reptile, 00:34:54.10\00:34:56.71 and then a bird, and then a mammal, 00:34:56.74\00:34:58.82 and boom you and I popped out. You see how different 00:34:58.85\00:35:02.78 these processes are? Yes or no. And friends 00:35:02.81\00:35:05.40 if we tell our kids and we tell the world 00:35:05.43\00:35:07.78 and we ourselves believe that we are just 00:35:07.81\00:35:10.54 the byproducts of some evolutionary process, 00:35:10.57\00:35:13.52 some mistake on the ladder, then it's going to stand 00:35:13.55\00:35:17.84 a reason friends that we're going to do all kinds 00:35:17.87\00:35:20.54 of debouched, depraved, and sinful things mainly adultery 00:35:20.57\00:35:24.65 and then we'll justify it by saying well it's in my genes. 00:35:24.68\00:35:28.28 Evolution has hard wired me this way, 00:35:28.31\00:35:30.39 yet the Bible says in clear language, 00:35:31.49\00:35:33.52 in the Ten Commandments, I quote for you the 00:35:33.55\00:35:35.69 Seventh Commandment. Thou shalt not commit what? 00:35:35.72\00:35:40.28 Adultery. Adultery. Are you seeing how these two 00:35:40.31\00:35:43.53 world views are at odds? Do you see that, yes or no? 00:35:43.56\00:35:45.98 That's the whole point tonight friends. 00:35:46.01\00:35:47.96 That you can see that it's not well a little here and a 00:35:48.66\00:35:51.17 little here, we'll mix it all together and 00:35:51.20\00:35:53.17 we'll bake the cake. No, no, no, it's one or the other. 00:35:53.20\00:35:56.66 That's right. Now you say why I'm still not clear 00:35:58.58\00:35:59.73 why could not God have created through long ages 00:35:59.76\00:36:02.74 and there many good Christian folk that hold to this view, 00:36:02.77\00:36:05.63 I'm going to do my best tonight to show you that, that 00:36:05.66\00:36:07.31 is a ridiculous preposition and not only that, 00:36:07.34\00:36:09.52 that it will totally undermine and undercut 00:36:09.55\00:36:12.42 the very picture that we have of a loving God. 00:36:12.45\00:36:15.29 Let us continue here, notice this remarkable 00:36:16.97\00:36:19.05 statement of Dr. Henry Morris, the respected scientist, 00:36:19.08\00:36:21.61 untold damage has been wrought, 00:36:21.64\00:36:23.85 especially during the past century by this dismal 00:36:23.88\00:36:26.36 doctrine that man is merely an, 00:36:26.39\00:36:29.48 what are the next two words? Evolved. 00:36:29.51\00:36:31.32 An evolved animal. Friends, if man is just an evolved 00:36:31.35\00:36:34.82 animal, do you see how that would inform the psyche 00:36:34.85\00:36:37.29 of our children, yes or no? I mean they'll look 00:36:37.32\00:36:39.61 at the way that their dog behaves and say hey, 00:36:39.64\00:36:41.34 if I am just one of those. Notice as the statement 00:36:41.37\00:36:44.61 continues, racism, economic imperialism, 00:36:44.64\00:36:47.61 notice this friends, communism, Nazism, sexual 00:36:47.64\00:36:50.62 promiscuity and perversions, aggressive militarism, 00:36:50.65\00:36:53.04 infanticide, genocide, and all sorts of evils have 00:36:53.07\00:36:55.98 been vigorously promoted by one group or another 00:36:56.01\00:36:58.13 on the grounds that since they were based on 00:36:58.16\00:37:00.90 evolution, they were scientific and, 00:37:00.93\00:37:03.52 therefore, bound to prove beneficial in the long run. 00:37:03.55\00:37:06.37 Amen. Friends did you, did you read the list there? 00:37:08.06\00:37:10.27 Communism, Nazism, aggressive militarism, 00:37:11.26\00:37:13.96 infanticide, genocide, all being promoted 00:37:13.99\00:37:16.95 in the name of evolution. Now friends, 00:37:16.98\00:37:20.85 I want to try and unpack the significance for you 00:37:20.88\00:37:23.10 of this as we continue, now note this. 00:37:23.13\00:37:25.25 Note this with here, with me here, 00:37:27.67\00:37:28.88 there are four reasons that I do not accept the 00:37:28.91\00:37:31.63 truthfulness of evolution. I find evolution to be 00:37:31.66\00:37:34.82 inadequate for four reasons; number one, 00:37:34.85\00:37:37.10 evolution is not theologically sound. 00:37:37.73\00:37:39.64 We're going to talk more about that this evening. 00:37:39.67\00:37:41.22 Number two, evolution is not even scientifically sound, 00:37:41.91\00:37:45.08 it's being promoted as science, 00:37:45.11\00:37:47.06 but it is not science, it is a theory and more than 00:37:47.09\00:37:50.43 that it is a philosophy of naturalism. 00:37:50.46\00:37:52.72 Number one, not theologically sound, number two, 00:37:52.75\00:37:55.00 not scientifically sound, number three, 00:37:55.03\00:37:56.75 it's not geologically sound. Some of Darwin's greatest 00:37:56.78\00:38:01.41 critics friends were not the clergy, 00:38:01.44\00:38:03.25 some of Darwin's most vociferous critics were 00:38:04.18\00:38:06.91 not the ministers and the clergy in those days, 00:38:06.94\00:38:09.32 it was the geologists who said wait a minute 00:38:09.35\00:38:11.98 Darwin what we find in the fossil record doesn't 00:38:12.01\00:38:14.54 square with what you're saying we should find. 00:38:14.57\00:38:17.08 And friends since Darwin published his seminar 00:38:18.36\00:38:21.17 work there in 1859, the origin of species, 00:38:21.20\00:38:23.67 the fossil record has only gotten worse for Mr. Darwin, 00:38:23.70\00:38:26.40 not one bit better. By the way I could quote, 00:38:26.43\00:38:29.61 I could quote at length evolution, 00:38:29.64\00:38:32.30 evolutionary geologists, that is geologists 00:38:32.33\00:38:34.73 who are committed to evolution who say you know 00:38:34.76\00:38:36.61 we're just not finding what you would think 00:38:36.64\00:38:38.45 we would find on the Darwinian model in the 00:38:38.48\00:38:41.03 evolutionary record, we don't find lots of transitional 00:38:41.06\00:38:43.66 forms, we don't find this gradual increase 00:38:43.69\00:38:46.51 from complexity or from no complexity to complexity, 00:38:46.54\00:38:49.64 we find boom, instantaneous existence of organisms, 00:38:49.67\00:38:53.45 this is what is called the Cambrian explosion, 00:38:53.48\00:38:55.43 where they go down, they go down, 00:38:55.46\00:38:56.45 they go down the geological column and just out 00:38:56.48\00:38:58.74 of nowhere? Here is all this life in the bottom 00:38:58.77\00:39:01.06 most layer of the geological column, 00:39:01.09\00:39:02.56 nothing preceding it, it just boom explodes 00:39:02.59\00:39:06.39 on to the scene. This is antithetical 00:39:06.42\00:39:08.75 with what Darwin would have predicted 00:39:08.78\00:39:10.43 and then we don't find these sort of you know 00:39:10.46\00:39:12.33 half bird, half reptile sort of creatures. 00:39:12.36\00:39:15.30 We find stasis, what word did I say? Stasis, 00:39:15.33\00:39:19.10 where kinds in the geological column 00:39:19.13\00:39:21.63 are just like the kinds we find today, 00:39:21.66\00:39:23.35 sure there are variations, but we can put them 00:39:23.38\00:39:25.92 into compartments, into genealogical 00:39:25.95\00:39:28.35 compartments and they are not these transitional 00:39:28.38\00:39:30.12 forms. And so even in Darwin's day he began 00:39:30.15\00:39:33.15 to scratch his head and say, well you know 00:39:33.18\00:39:34.93 when more of the geological record is uncovered 00:39:34.96\00:39:37.49 then we'll see that it will support my theory, 00:39:37.52\00:39:39.71 but friends over the last 150 years the geological 00:39:39.74\00:39:42.58 column has not gotten kinder to Darwin it has 00:39:42.61\00:39:45.25 actually become even more difficult for his theory 00:39:45.28\00:39:48.43 to try and explain away. So, it is not geologically 00:39:48.46\00:39:51.24 sound, number three, number four it is also not 00:39:51.27\00:39:54.04 philosophically sound and I wish I had time to 00:39:54.07\00:39:56.10 go into that and we may spend a little more time 00:39:56.13\00:39:58.26 on this tomorrow evening, but those are the four reasons 00:39:58.29\00:40:00.11 that I reject evolution. It is not theologically 00:40:00.14\00:40:03.21 sound, it is not scientifically sound, 00:40:03.24\00:40:05.31 it is not geologically sound and it is not philosophically 00:40:05.34\00:40:08.42 sound. Let's talk about number one there, 00:40:08.45\00:40:09.98 It's not theologically sound. The Biblical account 00:40:10.01\00:40:14.13 of origins and evolutionary account of origins 00:40:14.16\00:40:17.33 are mutually exclusive in their claims. 00:40:17.36\00:40:19.79 They cannot both be true, if that makes sense, 00:40:19.82\00:40:23.19 say Amen. Amen. 00:40:23.22\00:40:24.33 It's a piece of cake to understand this friends. 00:40:24.36\00:40:26.50 Now, there are some people with, with high degrees 00:40:26.53\00:40:29.19 and, and elevated degrees that will try to tell you 00:40:29.22\00:40:31.94 that the two can be harmonized, but just remember 00:40:31.97\00:40:34.47 that theistic evolution or God supervised 00:40:34.50\00:40:37.91 evolution is a squircle. The whole definition 00:40:37.94\00:40:41.22 of evolution is that it is impersonal and unsupervised 00:40:41.25\00:40:44.58 and to say that a personal God supervised 00:40:44.61\00:40:46.93 an impersonal unsupervised process is a 00:40:46.96\00:40:49.53 non-meaningful statement. Are you with me, yes or no? 00:40:49.56\00:40:51.77 Amen. What's the picture that we have of evolution? 00:40:51.80\00:40:54.01 The picture that we have of evolution is unicellular 00:40:55.10\00:40:57.14 organisms eventually increasing in complexity 00:40:57.17\00:40:59.64 and a little more change, and a little more change, 00:40:59.67\00:41:01.48 and a little more change, boom a frog. 00:41:01.51\00:41:03.03 And then a little more, little more, little more, 00:41:03.06\00:41:04.82 boom a reptile, boom. You see, that's the process of 00:41:04.85\00:41:07.37 evolution, but the picture that we have of the 00:41:07.40\00:41:09.39 created order and of the created origins in the Bible 00:41:09.42\00:41:11.43 is instantaneous, immediate God spoke 00:41:11.46\00:41:14.31 and it was done. Amen. Do you see that these two 00:41:14.34\00:41:17.81 are not easily harmonized? I would go so far as to say, 00:41:17.84\00:41:21.74 they're not only, not easily harmonized, 00:41:21.77\00:41:23.21 they're just not harmonizable, they cannot 00:41:23.24\00:41:25.41 both be true. Untold damage has been wrought 00:41:25.44\00:41:29.67 especially during the past, that's we have already 00:41:29.70\00:41:31.76 gone over that will. You have to give me the 00:41:31.79\00:41:33.30 next one, we've been over this. The biblical account 00:41:33.33\00:41:38.97 okay, great. Now, I need the next one, there we go. 00:41:39.00\00:41:41.65 Some liberal and creative Bible scholars have sought 00:41:41.68\00:41:45.05 to harmonize evolutionary theory with Biblical model. 00:41:45.08\00:41:48.93 Their efforts have proved unimpressive and strained. 00:41:49.57\00:41:52.09 Now, let me tell you why? What some scholars 00:41:52.97\00:41:55.52 are trying to do is, in order to retain what they call 00:41:55.55\00:41:58.83 the relevance of the Bible. After all we don't wanna 00:41:58.86\00:42:01.97 live in the dark ages they say. 00:42:02.00\00:42:03.42 The Bible must remain relevant. 00:42:03.45\00:42:05.36 And the only way to make it relevant is to incorporate 00:42:05.39\00:42:08.81 and inculcate the scientific model into what the 00:42:08.84\00:42:13.30 Bible teaches. Now, let me say something here. 00:42:13.33\00:42:15.64 All true signs will uphold and affirm what the Bible 00:42:16.36\00:42:19.57 teach, amen, amen. And by the way just a survey, 00:42:19.60\00:42:22.89 a quick survey of the great scientists of old will 00:42:22.92\00:42:26.28 utterly affirm that most of them were committed 00:42:26.31\00:42:29.74 Bible believing Christians. Let me just give you a 00:42:29.77\00:42:32.30 few names, you tell me if you've ever heard this men. 00:42:32.33\00:42:34.17 Isaac Newton, amen, ever heard of that name? Friends, 00:42:35.01\00:42:38.25 the whole concept of modern physics is based on, 00:42:38.71\00:42:41.93 on Newtonian physics. And he, he not only was very 00:42:41.96\00:42:46.17 Well known and renowned as a scholar in, 00:42:46.20\00:42:49.21 in the area of physics and the sciences. 00:42:49.24\00:42:51.00 He wrote a commentary on the Book of Daniel. 00:42:51.03\00:42:53.52 Did you know that? He was, he wrote one of the most 00:42:54.42\00:42:57.22 respected in his day commentaries on the Book 00:42:57.25\00:43:00.32 of Daniel. He was a theologian and a scientist. 00:43:00.35\00:43:02.73 So, for Isaac Newton, there was no you know, 00:43:02.76\00:43:04.79 irreconcilable difference between his commitment 00:43:04.82\00:43:07.01 to God and his commitment to science, 00:43:07.04\00:43:08.69 because he understood that the God of the Bible, 00:43:09.23\00:43:11.16 the God of Revelation was also the God of 00:43:11.19\00:43:13.29 nature and of science. Amen. 00:43:13.32\00:43:15.11 People like Johannes Kepler or Lord Kelvin and 00:43:16.22\00:43:20.75 Johannes Kepler and James Clerk Maxwell; 00:43:20.78\00:43:23.09 I mean these are the great names in science. 00:43:23.12\00:43:25.68 And most of them were Bible believing Christians. 00:43:25.71\00:43:27.98 Amen. Incredible, so this idea that there is a 00:43:28.01\00:43:32.78 dichotomy or a paradox between Christianity, 00:43:32.81\00:43:35.67 Bible believing Christianity, what some people 00:43:35.70\00:43:38.59 would try to marginalize and call fundamentalism. 00:43:38.62\00:43:41.09 That there is a paradox between that a contrast, 00:43:42.83\00:43:45.25 an irreconcilable difference between that 00:43:45.28\00:43:47.27 and what the Bible teaches. No, no, no friends, 00:43:47.30\00:43:49.77 science and the Bible will be harmonious because 00:43:50.41\00:43:52.99 the God of science is the God of the Bible. Amen. 00:43:53.02\00:43:56.16 Now, let's talk here about why I believe that, 00:43:57.58\00:44:01.33 that there are theological obstacles. 00:44:01.36\00:44:03.85 Why it is impossible to harmonize the, 00:44:03.88\00:44:07.09 the Biblical record with evolutionary long ages. 00:44:07.12\00:44:09.68 Lets take number one, there are no long ages 00:44:09.71\00:44:12.89 in Genesis 1 and 2. Let's just go quickly to Genesis 00:44:12.92\00:44:17.08 chapter 1 and let us note a phrase that occurs 00:44:17.11\00:44:20.65 numerous times in the First Book of the Bible. 00:44:20.68\00:44:23.43 Genesis chapter 1, I'm in verse 5. Genesis chapter 1 00:44:23.46\00:44:28.96 and verse 5, And God called the light day and the 00:44:28.99\00:44:31.73 darkness he called night. So, the evening 00:44:31.76\00:44:34.22 and the morning, were the what? First, 00:44:34.25\00:44:37.18 what's that word? Day. 00:44:37.21\00:44:39.55 Day, the first day. And notice also in verse 8. 00:44:39.58\00:44:41.97 And God called the firmament heaven, 00:44:42.00\00:44:43.59 so the evening and the morning were the? 00:44:43.62\00:44:45.54 Second. Second day, verse 13. So, 00:44:46.68\00:44:48.31 the evening and the morning were the third day. 00:44:48.34\00:44:50.61 Verse 19, so, the evening and the morning were 00:44:50.64\00:44:52.61 the fourth day. All the way of through, the sixth day. 00:44:52.64\00:44:54.60 Now, the word that is translated day here in 00:44:55.77\00:44:58.08 the Hebrew was the word Yom, YOM, Yom and it 00:44:58.11\00:45:02.27 is very much like our own word day. 00:45:02.30\00:45:04.60 Now, listen very carefully. I'll do my best to explain 00:45:05.45\00:45:07.20 this as quickly as I can. The English word day 00:45:07.23\00:45:10.00 can have three meanings, three meanings. 00:45:10.03\00:45:13.63 Number one, it can mean a 24 hour period. 00:45:13.66\00:45:16.55 Number two, it can mean the lighter part of the day, 00:45:16.58\00:45:19.32 a 12 hour period. And it also can mean an indefinite 00:45:19.35\00:45:23.32 period of time. Let me give you some examples, 00:45:23.35\00:45:25.66 if I say, I was there for three days, which definition 00:45:25.69\00:45:30.60 applies there? Is that the 12 hour period, 00:45:30.63\00:45:33.53 the 24 hour period or the indefinite time. 00:45:33.56\00:45:35.40 24 hour period. That's the 24 hour, isn't it? 00:45:36.76\00:45:37.87 I was there for three days. Now if I said, we spend 00:45:37.90\00:45:41.20 all day at the beach, which definition there? 00:45:41.23\00:45:44.16 The 12 hour put day or at least the lighter 00:45:44.19\00:45:47.25 part of the day. Now, if I said, today is the dawn 00:45:47.28\00:45:50.76 of a new day for this nation. What am I saying now? 00:45:50.79\00:45:54.41 Indefinite. Indefinite period, or if I say today 00:45:55.29\00:45:56.54 is the day of reckoning. Do I mean today is the 00:45:56.57\00:45:59.41 24 hour period of reckoning. What am I saying? 00:45:59.44\00:46:01.99 Its the period of reckoning. In other words, 00:46:03.21\00:46:05.24 it means an indefinite time period. Are you with me 00:46:05.84\00:46:08.63 now, yes or no? Amen. Now, the Hebrew word Yom 00:46:08.66\00:46:11.08 is almost the same in its fluidity, it can mean any 00:46:11.11\00:46:14.84 of those three things, but here is the catch. 00:46:14.87\00:46:16.92 Every time the Hebrew word Yom is modified 00:46:17.79\00:46:20.91 by a number. By what word did I say? Number. 00:46:20.94\00:46:24.39 A number just like in the English language it means a 00:46:24.42\00:46:28.17 24 hour period. Let me give you an example, 00:46:28.20\00:46:31.60 if I was there for two days, you know, 00:46:31.63\00:46:34.17 I'm not talking about an indefinite period, amen. 00:46:34.20\00:46:36.02 Amen. Oh! He was there for 16 years. No, no, no, 00:46:36.05\00:46:39.51 if I say, I was there for two days you know, 00:46:39.54\00:46:41.09 you understand I was there for 48 hours. 00:46:41.12\00:46:42.53 So, to in the Bible says, the evening and the morning 00:46:42.56\00:46:46.21 were the one Yom. The evening and the morning 00:46:46.24\00:46:49.21 were the two Yom. The evening and the morning 00:46:49.24\00:46:51.46 were the three Yom. Every single time in the 00:46:51.49\00:46:54.90 Old Testament, when Yom is modified by a number 00:46:54.93\00:46:58.06 and a numeral. It means a literal 24 hour solar day. 00:46:58.09\00:47:04.05 Amen. Are you with me? Amen. Friends that's inescapable. 00:47:04.08\00:47:07.03 Now, let me give you something here that I'm moving 00:47:08.56\00:47:09.94 rapidly, but I hope you can get your fingers wrapped 00:47:09.97\00:47:11.61 around this. You know who Martin Luther was, right, 00:47:11.64\00:47:13.53 raise your hands if you know who Martin Luther was? 00:47:13.56\00:47:15.05 Martin Luther had a right hand man. 00:47:15.08\00:47:17.11 Does anybody know what his name was? 00:47:17.14\00:47:18.51 Melancthon. Melancthon, that's exactly right. 00:47:18.54\00:47:20.55 One of the great reformers of old, 00:47:20.58\00:47:21.92 a man by the name of Melancthon. 00:47:21.95\00:47:24.20 And listen to what Melancthon said, carefully. 00:47:24.23\00:47:25.20 Melancthon said the Bible must first be understood 00:47:25.21\00:47:28.33 grammatically before it can be understood theologically. 00:47:28.36\00:47:32.37 The Bible must first to be understood grammatically 00:47:33.96\00:47:36.37 before it can be understood theologically. 00:47:36.40\00:47:38.54 What does that mean? It means we must first determine 00:47:38.57\00:47:40.95 what the words say? Before we decide 00:47:40.98\00:47:43.61 what they mean? Amen. You understanding? That's right. 00:47:43.64\00:47:46.48 In other words we can't say, Oh! 00:47:47.10\00:47:48.09 I, I believe this and so about the Bible 00:47:48.12\00:47:49.99 and then force the Bible into our construct, 00:47:50.02\00:47:52.68 force the Bible into saying what we want it to say? 00:47:52.71\00:47:55.23 We must first say, well, what do the words say? 00:47:55.77\00:47:57.14 And then when we determined what the words actually 00:47:57.75\00:47:59.28 say only then can we say what do the words mean. 00:47:59.31\00:48:03.56 Amen. You understand the difference, 00:48:04.19\00:48:05.16 yes or no? Amen. So, let's ask the question 00:48:05.17\00:48:06.44 Genesis 1 & 2, what did the words say? 00:48:06.47\00:48:08.15 The evening and the morning were the first 24 hour 00:48:08.96\00:48:11.20 period. The evening and the morning were the second 00:48:11.23\00:48:13.38 24-hour period. Read Genesis 1, read Genesis 2. 00:48:13.41\00:48:17.56 And ask yourself, is there any place in here for 00:48:17.59\00:48:20.32 4.5 billion years. Friends, what is happening is, 00:48:20.35\00:48:25.25 is that evolutionary scientists are trusting 00:48:25.28\00:48:28.82 their interpretation into the Biblical record, 00:48:28.85\00:48:31.78 but if we allow the Bible to be the arbiter of science 00:48:31.81\00:48:34.26 and if we allow the Bible to stand on its own, 00:48:34.29\00:48:36.86 you cannot get those long ages in the Book 00:48:36.89\00:48:39.20 of Genesis. Amen. Amen. Amen. Now, 00:48:39.23\00:48:42.50 what about in the rest of the Bible. 00:48:43.35\00:48:45.29 The answer is no. In the Old Testament and in the 00:48:45.85\00:48:48.26 New Testament, you will search in vain for millions 00:48:48.29\00:48:51.61 and multiplied billions of years. They simply are not 00:48:51.64\00:48:54.95 there. Number three, this would undermine the 00:48:54.98\00:48:59.26 Seventh-Day Sabbath. Now, I wonder about that 00:48:59.29\00:49:02.08 Seventh-Day Sabbath. Let's go to Exodus chapter 20. 00:49:02.11\00:49:04.72 That's where we find the codification, that is to say, 00:49:06.95\00:49:10.25 when God codified the law on the Mount 00:49:10.28\00:49:12.46 Sinai Pinnacle. In Exodus chapter 20 beginning 00:49:12.49\00:49:15.64 in verse 8, he gave his commandment concerning 00:49:15.67\00:49:18.66 the Sabbath. I'm in Exodus chapter 20 00:49:18.69\00:49:20.58 and I'm beginning in verse 8. What verse am I in? 00:49:20.61\00:49:22.03 Verse 8, he says, remember the Sabbath-Day. 00:49:22.06\00:49:26.15 Now, why does he say remember friends? 00:49:26.18\00:49:27.65 The reason he says remember is because he had 00:49:27.68\00:49:30.65 already given them the Sabbath and where 00:49:30.68\00:49:32.40 it was that? Where it was that in creation? 00:49:32.43\00:49:35.61 That's exactly right, because created in how many 00:49:35.64\00:49:37.44 days? Six and then rested on the Seventh. And 00:49:37.47\00:49:41.00 the Bible says, he blessed that day and he hallowed 00:49:41.03\00:49:42.84 that day, he sanctified it. Now notice this, 00:49:42.87\00:49:45.55 Exodus chapter 20 and verse 8. 00:49:46.60\00:49:47.57 Remember the Sabbath-Day to keep it holy. 00:49:47.60\00:49:49.27 It doesn't say to make it holy, it already was holy 00:49:49.30\00:49:51.82 and he says; now you just keep it that way, 00:49:51.85\00:49:53.52 amen. Amen. Verse 9, six days you shall work and do 00:49:54.20\00:49:58.06 all your, six days shall you labor and do all your work. 00:49:58.09\00:50:00.77 But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord 00:50:00.80\00:50:02.39 your God. In it you shall do no work. 00:50:02.42\00:50:03.99 You nor your son nor your daughter, nor your male 00:50:04.02\00:50:06.73 servant, nor your female servant, 00:50:06.76\00:50:08.04 nor your cattle nor your stranger, 00:50:08.07\00:50:09.20 who is within your gates, why? What's the big deal God? 00:50:09.23\00:50:11.06 Verse 11, for, what's that word. For. For. 00:50:11.09\00:50:14.81 What does the word mean? Because, because 00:50:14.84\00:50:16.64 in six days the Lord the made the heavens and 00:50:16.67\00:50:19.31 the earth, the sea, and all that is in them 00:50:19.34\00:50:20.84 and rested the Seventh Day therefore and remember 00:50:20.87\00:50:24.29 when you see the word therefore, ask yourselves 00:50:24.32\00:50:26.21 what it's therefore. Therefore, 00:50:26.24\00:50:29.26 the Lord blessed the Sabbath-Day and hallowed it. 00:50:29.29\00:50:32.53 Now, why did God bless the Sabbath-day and 00:50:33.44\00:50:35.20 hallowed it? Why did he ask us, ask us to keep it? 00:50:35.23\00:50:38.45 Because he worked for six days and rested 00:50:38.48\00:50:41.72 on the seventh. And he says, on the basis of my example, 00:50:41.75\00:50:45.36 on my what everyone? Example. Example, 00:50:45.39\00:50:47.59 you do the same. Now, can you imagine how ridiculous 00:50:47.62\00:50:51.89 it would sound for God to say? Keep the 00:50:51.92\00:50:54.35 Seventh-Day Sabbath because, six days and resting 00:50:54.38\00:50:58.28 on the seventh, but I really created through 00:50:58.31\00:51:00.57 millions and multiplied billions of years. 00:51:00.60\00:51:02.31 Does that make any sense? No. Not only does it not 00:51:03.30\00:51:05.65 make any sense friends, listen carefully, 00:51:05.68\00:51:07.01 it makes God out to be a liar. See, now you have 00:51:07.04\00:51:10.82 a lying God on top of Mount Sinai, who says, 00:51:10.85\00:51:13.64 I want you to keep the Seventh-Day Sabbath. 00:51:13.67\00:51:15.85 I want you to work six and rest the seventh because 00:51:15.88\00:51:18.06 I created in six and rested on the Seventh, 00:51:18.09\00:51:19.76 but friends if what some of these liberal theologians 00:51:19.79\00:51:22.46 are telling, telling us is true that really Genesis 00:51:22.49\00:51:24.71 has millions and millions of years. 00:51:24.74\00:51:26.48 Then God on top of Mount Sinai is a liar and not only 00:51:26.95\00:51:29.78 is he a liar, he is not as smart as modern day 00:51:29.81\00:51:31.96 theologians. You understanding now, yes or no? 00:51:31.99\00:51:35.55 Yes. So, friends number three, it undermines 00:51:35.58\00:51:38.41 the Seventh-Day Sabbath. Number four; 00:51:38.44\00:51:40.09 this is the nail in the coffin for people who believe 00:51:40.12\00:51:43.25 that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. 00:51:43.28\00:51:45.33 How many people here who believe that Jesus 00:51:45.36\00:51:46.82 was the Son of God? If you believe that friends 00:51:46.85\00:51:49.38 then this boom puts the nail in the coffin for 00:51:49.41\00:51:52.31 evolutionary theory being harmonized with what 00:51:52.34\00:51:54.43 the Bible teaches. Go with me to Matthew 00:51:54.46\00:51:56.59 chapter 19 and I'll explain. Matthew chapter 19, 00:51:56.62\00:52:00.14 the first book of the New Testament. 00:52:00.17\00:52:02.75 Matthew, what chapter are we going to? 19. 00:52:04.37\00:52:06.47 19, Jesus is speaking and notice what he says 00:52:06.87\00:52:10.76 in Matthew chapter 19. Beginning in verse 4, 00:52:10.79\00:52:13.46 the Pharisees have asked a question in verse 3. 00:52:16.45\00:52:17.78 The Pharisees also came to him testing him and said 00:52:17.81\00:52:19.92 to him, is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife 00:52:19.95\00:52:22.41 for just any reason. Now notice verse 4. 00:52:22.44\00:52:24.22 And he answered and said to them. 00:52:25.11\00:52:26.08 Have you not read that he who made them at the 00:52:26.11\00:52:28.27 beginning, made them male and female. Made them, 00:52:28.30\00:52:31.89 what everyone? Male and female. 00:52:31.92\00:52:33.89 Male and female verse 5, and said for this reason 00:52:33.92\00:52:36.01 a man shall leave his father and mother and the two, 00:52:36.04\00:52:38.14 and shall be joined to his wife and the two shall 00:52:38.17\00:52:40.98 become one flesh. So, then they are no longer two, 00:52:41.01\00:52:43.42 but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined 00:52:43.45\00:52:46.41 together let not man separate. 00:52:46.44\00:52:47.94 Question for you? Where is Jesus quoting from? 00:52:47.97\00:52:51.01 Is any of that language sound familiar, 00:52:53.15\00:52:54.61 therefore shall a man leave his, does that sound familiar? 00:52:54.64\00:52:57.10 He is quoting from Genesis 2 friends. 00:52:58.74\00:53:00.06 And notice what he says there in verse 4. 00:53:01.00\00:53:02.23 He says, that he made them in the beginning 00:53:03.00\00:53:05.13 made them unicellular amoebas. No. What did he make 00:53:05.16\00:53:11.08 them? Male and female. Male and female, 00:53:11.11\00:53:12.91 do you know what you have here friends; 00:53:13.76\00:53:14.83 you have Jesus endorsing the Mosiac account of creation. 00:53:14.86\00:53:21.30 Amen, amen. So, if we were to ask Jesus and say, 00:53:21.33\00:53:23.93 Jesus what do think about Moses account of creation? 00:53:23.96\00:53:26.38 Did God create through multiplied millions of years? 00:53:26.41\00:53:28.81 He would say, let me tell you what I believe. 00:53:28.84\00:53:30.32 In the beginning God made them male and female 00:53:30.35\00:53:34.04 and they performed a marriage ceremony. 00:53:34.07\00:53:36.17 Friends, you're not marrying amoebas, amen. Amen. 00:53:36.66\00:53:39.50 There is no commitment there. We could go to Peter 00:53:39.53\00:53:43.47 and we could show that Peter affirmed Moses 00:53:43.50\00:53:46.68 writing in terms of the creation story. 00:53:46.71\00:53:49.38 Paul affirmed Moses writing in terms of the 00:53:49.41\00:53:51.95 creation story. The New Testament is the divinely 00:53:51.98\00:53:54.93 inspired commentary on the Old Testament. 00:53:54.96\00:53:57.96 Let me say that again. The New Testament 00:53:58.94\00:54:01.29 is the divinely inspired commentary on the 00:54:01.32\00:54:04.69 Old Testament. Amen. Have you understand that, 00:54:04.72\00:54:06.79 say amen. Amen, amen. Now, listen how did Jesus 00:54:06.82\00:54:09.93 understand the Old Testament. He 00:54:09.96\00:54:11.50 affirmed the creation story How did Paul understand 00:54:11.53\00:54:14.09 the Old Testament? He affirmed the creation story. 00:54:14.12\00:54:16.66 How did Peter understand the Old Testament? 00:54:16.69\00:54:18.72 He affirmed the creation story of Moses. 00:54:18.75\00:54:21.64 So, you know, what you have friends. 00:54:21.94\00:54:22.96 When you have liberal Christians and liberal 00:54:23.31\00:54:25.32 theologians say, well you know, Moses really meant 00:54:25.35\00:54:28.22 long ages of time, what they're saying is? 00:54:28.25\00:54:30.48 They're smarter than Jesus. They're smarter than 00:54:30.51\00:54:32.59 Paul. They're smarter than Peter, and they understand 00:54:32.62\00:54:34.94 the Bible better than them. You comfortable 00:54:34.97\00:54:37.23 with that? No. Friends, if it's good enough for Jesus, 00:54:37.26\00:54:39.81 it's good enough for me. That's right. Amen. Amen. 00:54:39.84\00:54:41.68 And number five friends, it turns our loving God 00:54:42.39\00:54:44.58 into a killer. Think about this for just a moment. 00:54:44.61\00:54:48.12 My Bible teaches that the wages of sin is what? 00:54:48.90\00:54:52.35 Death. But in evolutionary, in the evolutionary 00:54:52.38\00:54:54.46 world view, in the evolutionary context, 00:54:54.49\00:54:58.16 sin does not result or death doesn't result from sin. 00:54:59.00\00:55:02.93 Death is taking place for millions and millions 00:55:03.93\00:55:06.26 and millions and millions and millions of years 00:55:06.51\00:55:07.72 working up gradually building, building, building, toward, 00:55:07.75\00:55:11.49 towards Eden and then God has Adam and Eve 00:55:11.52\00:55:14.04 in Eden as the perfect couple in perfect communion 00:55:14.07\00:55:17.04 with a perfect God. Yet, there have been ions 00:55:17.07\00:55:19.32 and multiplied billions of years before that, 00:55:19.35\00:55:21.82 all death and disease and predation and parasitism 00:55:21.85\00:55:25.45 working up to God's perfect creation in Eden. 00:55:25.48\00:55:28.23 No way. Friends, the wages of sin is what? Death. 00:55:29.15\00:55:31.81 Death, but if you believe in evolution that it can 00:55:31.84\00:55:33.80 be harmonize with the Bible, you have death before sin. 00:55:33.83\00:55:36.27 And friends the whole atonement, 00:55:38.61\00:55:39.93 Jesus dying on the cross for my sins and your sins. 00:55:40.71\00:55:42.82 The entire idea of the atonement is predicated 00:55:43.41\00:55:46.62 on the idea that the wages of sin is death. 00:55:47.25\00:55:51.20 And Jesus came to set us free from the wages of sin. 00:55:51.67\00:55:54.81 Amen. Amen. Jesus came to set us free. 00:55:54.84\00:55:58.09 And friends, as you look at the cross, 00:55:59.07\00:56:00.57 you see there a God, who died to set you free from 00:56:01.47\00:56:05.00 the wages of sin, which is death. If death preceded 00:56:05.03\00:56:08.88 Adam and Eve friends there, there is no meaning 00:56:08.91\00:56:10.72 to the cross. The cross is a meaningless gesture. 00:56:10.75\00:56:14.88 Friends, I have given you many reasons tonight 00:56:16.28\00:56:17.83 to believe that evolution is not theologically sound. 00:56:17.86\00:56:20.84 My first question for you tonight is has this message 00:56:20.87\00:56:23.09 made sense, yes or no? Amen. My second question 00:56:23.12\00:56:25.87 is how many of you want to receive God as your 00:56:27.19\00:56:29.19 Creator and Redeemer? 00:56:29.22\00:56:30.46
