It's been 2000 years 00:00:09.32\00:00:10.77 since the glorious light of the cross 00:00:10.80\00:00:12.35 illuminated the world veiled in darkness and confusion 00:00:12.38\00:00:15.40 about the character of God. 00:00:15.43\00:00:17.24 And still today the greatest need of mankind 00:00:17.27\00:00:19.78 is a revelation of God's love 00:00:19.81\00:00:21.57 as revealed in the life of Christ. 00:00:21.60\00:00:23.62 Amazing Facts presents the everlasting gospel 00:00:23.65\00:00:26.92 with Pastor Doug Batchelor coming to you each week 00:00:26.95\00:00:29.87 from Sacramento Central Church in Sunny, California. 00:00:29.90\00:00:32.99 Discover hidden treasures in God's word today. 00:00:33.02\00:00:38.31 Well, it's good here to-- good to be here again 00:00:38.34\00:00:42.88 and I just thank God for the privilege of being able 00:00:42.91\00:00:45.63 to study the word of God to share with you. 00:00:45.66\00:00:48.97 I learn so much, I get so excited doing that. 00:00:49.00\00:00:52.54 In the series that we have been in this morning's presentation 00:00:52.57\00:00:57.50 will represent the last part of a six part series 00:00:57.53\00:01:00.98 we have been doing on "Jesus in all the Bible." 00:01:01.01\00:01:05.48 And I'm sort of sad but it could go on long time 00:01:05.51\00:01:11.65 because the whole Bible is about Jesus. 00:01:11.68\00:01:15.12 But in a special way he stands out 00:01:15.15\00:01:17.47 through the stories in the Bible 00:01:17.50\00:01:19.76 and some of the heroes and the characters. 00:01:19.79\00:01:23.32 You know, I have probably said to you more than one time 00:01:23.35\00:01:27.11 that I'm fascinated with space exploration 00:01:27.14\00:01:32.84 and with the shuttle 00:01:32.87\00:01:35.39 and more lately International Space Station. 00:01:35.42\00:01:39.60 And I have dropped as many hints as I could 00:01:39.63\00:01:41.83 that if you know anybody with influence 00:01:41.86\00:01:43.78 that thinks you ought to be a pastor 00:01:43.81\00:01:45.37 to visit up there sometime. 00:01:45.40\00:01:47.95 They have had couple of tourists, 00:01:47.98\00:01:49.35 but it's like $2 million a ticket. 00:01:49.38\00:01:52.41 And I can't do that just yet. 00:01:52.44\00:01:54.80 But, boy, that would be great to be up there. 00:01:54.83\00:01:58.01 Have a few facts for you on the International Space Station. 00:01:58.04\00:02:02.45 It's the largest manned object ever sent into space. 00:02:02.48\00:02:07.05 It encompasses about 43,000 cubic feet 00:02:07.08\00:02:11.10 of living and working space. 00:02:11.13\00:02:13.75 Now, your house may be 1,500, 2,000, 3,000 feet, 00:02:13.78\00:02:19.64 much more than that you ought to be having 00:02:19.67\00:02:20.82 home Bible studies, right? 00:02:20.85\00:02:24.68 This is the size of two Boeing 747's on the inside. 00:02:24.71\00:02:30.02 Assembling the station when completed is gonna require 00:02:30.05\00:02:33.00 45 launches, 36 from the United States 00:02:33.03\00:02:36.53 and nine from Russia. 00:02:36.56\00:02:38.20 Not to mention 1,700 hours of space walks. 00:02:38.23\00:02:41.68 When fully constructed, the station will be visible 00:02:41.71\00:02:44.79 to more than 90 percent of the world's population. 00:02:44.82\00:02:47.31 When we have been out camping before in Nevada 00:02:47.34\00:02:49.30 and we've seen it go by, I had a friend say, 00:02:49.33\00:02:50.99 I say, what is that star 00:02:51.02\00:02:52.21 and they said, it's a space station. 00:02:52.24\00:02:53.34 I thought they were kidding, 00:02:53.37\00:02:54.41 they handed me some binoculars 00:02:54.44\00:02:56.17 and it was unless it was a square star 00:02:56.20\00:02:58.39 but this is not what it was. 00:02:58.42\00:02:59.96 90% of the world's population will be able to see it. 00:03:03.55\00:03:06.47 It circles the earth every 90 minutes, 00:03:06.50\00:03:09.29 and it looks down on 85% of the populated areas. 00:03:09.32\00:03:14.00 The space station is the most expensive 00:03:14.03\00:03:16.20 single object ever built in the world. 00:03:16.23\00:03:18.99 The United States participation has been estimated at 96 billion 00:03:19.02\00:03:22.79 that's just our participation, a figure that nearly equals 00:03:22.82\00:03:26.79 the combined cost of all of the Apollo missions combined. 00:03:26.82\00:03:31.78 And the construction of the space station 00:03:31.81\00:03:33.37 is a collaboration of 100,000 people, 00:03:33.40\00:03:38.11 hundreds of companies, 16 nations spread over 00:03:38.14\00:03:41.73 four continents, among them the US, 00:03:41.76\00:03:43.89 Russia, Canada, Japan, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, France, Italy, 00:03:43.92\00:03:48.90 the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, 00:03:48.93\00:03:51.07 Switzerland, the United Kingdom 00:03:51.10\00:03:52.91 and I heard they also added Columbia, 00:03:52.94\00:03:55.34 but it's not mentioned there. 00:03:55.37\00:03:56.68 That's really amazing when you consider it, 00:03:56.71\00:03:59.50 that as you look up at this incredible masterpiece, 00:03:59.53\00:04:05.91 the greatest technology in the world 00:04:05.94\00:04:08.95 is the International Space Station. 00:04:08.98\00:04:12.77 Floating up there in the heavens, 00:04:12.80\00:04:14.02 what you are really looking at is the combined effort 00:04:14.05\00:04:17.27 of all these people all over the world 00:04:17.30\00:04:20.10 really reaching for the stars. 00:04:20.13\00:04:22.07 That's something that I think that the nations the world 00:04:22.10\00:04:24.96 could be excited about part of it 00:04:24.99\00:04:28.19 is Japanese, part of its Canadian, 00:04:28.22\00:04:31.96 part of its Russian, part of its United States, 00:04:31.99\00:04:36.27 different parts of Europe, Great Britain, 00:04:36.30\00:04:38.55 but you know what, 00:04:38.58\00:04:39.83 when they put it together, it all had to fit. 00:04:39.86\00:04:44.17 Because if the Russians decided to use it 00:04:44.20\00:04:46.61 different measurement on the seal 00:04:46.64\00:04:49.02 that connects the different chambers than the US 00:04:49.05\00:04:50.98 and they have a leak up there 00:04:51.01\00:04:53.13 a pressure leak they are gonna die. 00:04:53.16\00:04:55.97 So can you imagine the collaboration 00:04:56.00\00:04:57.98 that they had to go through to make sure 00:04:58.01\00:04:59.40 that all those different components 00:04:59.43\00:05:01.00 from all the different country really were one in their design. 00:05:01.03\00:05:06.53 Now, I'm using this to illustrate 00:05:06.56\00:05:09.55 as you read through the Bible, 00:05:09.58\00:05:12.46 you are seeing different sections of the Son of God 00:05:12.49\00:05:17.41 that really are all assembled in Christ. 00:05:17.44\00:05:21.54 We have been talking in the last few weeks 00:05:21.57\00:05:23.34 for instance about Moses 00:05:23.37\00:05:26.55 and his justice his meekness, his leadership. 00:05:26.58\00:05:30.46 We have talked about the courage of David 00:05:30.49\00:05:34.14 and his bravery and now he is a type of Christ. 00:05:34.17\00:05:37.09 Talk about the forgiveness and the patience 00:05:37.12\00:05:40.04 and endurance of Joseph. 00:05:40.07\00:05:43.58 We can talk about the patience of Job 00:05:43.61\00:05:45.08 and the sufferings of Job in. 00:05:45.11\00:05:46.48 All of these different characters in the Bible 00:05:46.51\00:05:48.87 are reflecting facets of Christ's character. 00:05:48.90\00:05:54.86 Now in this last segment of this study 00:05:54.89\00:05:56.99 we have been doing, we are gonna fly 00:05:57.02\00:05:59.34 through a number of famous Bible stories 00:05:59.37\00:06:01.49 in our scripture reading, it mentions specifically, 00:06:01.52\00:06:05.41 Solomon, The Queen of Sheba and Jonah 00:06:05.44\00:06:07.95 and we will get to them also but 00:06:07.98\00:06:09.51 and I'm going to try and do these sequentially 00:06:09.54\00:06:11.79 as well as I can, but I want to just highlight 00:06:11.82\00:06:13.68 a few different Bible characters again. 00:06:13.71\00:06:16.49 Look at their lives and when I cover in all of them 00:06:16.52\00:06:19.07 and how they represent types of Christ. 00:06:19.10\00:06:21.55 You have your Bibles? 00:06:21.58\00:06:22.61 By the way, I'll do my best again 00:06:22.64\00:06:24.30 to send this off to Melissa. 00:06:24.33\00:06:25.87 She can post them at the church website, 00:06:25.90\00:06:28.43 so if you like to see these notes, 00:06:28.46\00:06:30.15 we will have them there fore you 00:06:30.18\00:06:31.96 and may be you could use these 00:06:31.99\00:06:34.81 in studying with someone as well. 00:06:34.84\00:06:38.08 Gideon, you know when you read in the New Testament 00:06:38.11\00:06:41.00 and high lights the heroes of the Old Testament, 00:06:41.03\00:06:43.13 Gideon is one of them. 00:06:43.16\00:06:44.58 There is a number of ways where he is a type of Christ. 00:06:44.61\00:06:47.21 All of their names also tell us something about that. 00:06:47.24\00:06:50.73 Gideon means a cutter down or a feller of big trees. 00:06:50.76\00:06:57.03 One of the things Gideon does 00:06:57.06\00:06:58.22 is after he is called by the angel. 00:06:58.25\00:07:00.33 You can read this in Judges 6:11. 00:07:00.36\00:07:03.22 "The Angel of the Lord came and sat 00:07:03.25\00:07:04.84 under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, 00:07:04.87\00:07:07.13 which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, 00:07:07.16\00:07:09.88 while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress" 00:07:09.91\00:07:14.69 wheat and grapes one of the last things 00:07:14.72\00:07:17.78 Jesus did is He presented wheat and grape juice to the people. 00:07:17.81\00:07:23.82 Threshing wheat in a wine press. 00:07:23.85\00:07:25.73 What was it Melchizedek-- Melchizedek, 00:07:25.76\00:07:28.21 another type of Christ, he brought forth bread and wine, 00:07:28.24\00:07:31.47 that's the symbol of the word of God 00:07:31.50\00:07:33.46 and the blood of the covenant. 00:07:33.49\00:07:35.46 And so here he is everyone else is afraid, 00:07:35.49\00:07:37.48 but he is doing it to hide it from the Midianites. 00:07:37.51\00:07:41.16 And he ends up conquering an army 00:07:41.19\00:07:43.59 that was almost numberless with a very small force 00:07:43.62\00:07:47.70 that is filled with God's power. 00:07:47.73\00:07:50.09 That's what Gideon does, isn't that what Jesus did, 00:07:50.12\00:07:52.01 He had these handful of disciples and apostles 00:07:52.04\00:07:55.15 and they basically turned the world upside down. 00:07:55.18\00:07:57.72 Small group most forsake Jesus, didn't they? 00:07:57.75\00:08:01.33 But a few remain behind, 00:08:01.36\00:08:02.91 with Gideon did a lot of army forsake him? 00:08:02.94\00:08:05.60 When he said, if you are afraid you need to turn away. 00:08:05.63\00:08:07.71 They went home and then those 00:08:07.74\00:08:09.65 who didn't drink the water carefully looking around 00:08:09.68\00:08:13.38 they were just missed. 00:08:13.41\00:08:14.97 So he ends up with not quantity 00:08:15.00\00:08:16.83 but he has got quality and that quality 00:08:16.86\00:08:19.36 was able to conquer a massive force. 00:08:19.39\00:08:22.17 Jesus spent three and half years 00:08:22.20\00:08:23.67 disciplining people for quality. 00:08:23.70\00:08:27.13 They turned the world upside down. 00:08:27.16\00:08:29.21 It also tells us about Gideon that he was a meek men, 00:08:29.24\00:08:33.91 he was the youngest in his father's family. 00:08:33.94\00:08:36.43 It's by the way, you notice 00:08:36.46\00:08:37.51 how often God shows the weakest and the youngest. 00:08:37.54\00:08:40.94 Joseph among the youngest, David the youngest, 00:08:40.97\00:08:43.65 Moses the youngest, Gideon the youngest. 00:08:43.68\00:08:47.57 God is trying to tell us that he takes those things 00:08:47.60\00:08:49.81 that are often overlooked and despised 00:08:49.84\00:08:51.66 and He does great things through them. 00:08:51.69\00:08:55.52 And it says here in Judges 8:23 "But Gideon said to them" 00:08:55.55\00:09:00.17 I'm sorry Judges 6:15 he said "O my Lord, 00:09:00.20\00:09:03.53 how can I save Israel? 00:09:03.56\00:09:05.29 Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, 00:09:05.32\00:09:08.17 and I am least in my father's house." 00:09:08.20\00:09:11.21 And again you go to see 00:09:11.24\00:09:12.84 the humility there, the meekness. 00:09:12.87\00:09:14.38 Judges 8:23. 00:09:14.41\00:09:17.07 And Gideon said to them, "I will not rule over you, 00:09:17.10\00:09:20.28 nor shall my son rule over you, 00:09:20.31\00:09:22.62 the Lord shall rule over you." 00:09:22.65\00:09:25.26 You know when our country was first founded 00:09:25.29\00:09:28.99 and George Washington finally was victorious over the British 00:09:29.02\00:09:33.56 and they wanted to make him a king. 00:09:33.59\00:09:35.69 I mean they had-- lot of more 00:09:35.72\00:09:36.87 had come out of England, 00:09:36.90\00:09:37.93 they still fought like that and they said. 00:09:37.96\00:09:40.18 Yeah, I know we are gonna-- we are gonna be free country 00:09:40.21\00:09:42.07 and we'll do things differently, but we need a king. 00:09:42.10\00:09:44.47 And they wanted to make Washington king 00:09:44.50\00:09:46.03 and he said no, he retired. 00:09:46.06\00:09:48.63 They wanted to keep making him president, 00:09:48.66\00:09:50.05 but he knew that they needed to elect a president, 00:09:50.08\00:09:52.60 it needed to be a nation chosen by the people 00:09:52.63\00:09:55.53 and because of his humility in that area, 00:09:55.56\00:09:58.70 it set the president for all other presidents 00:09:58.73\00:10:01.82 to say, I have a limited term we don't have a king. 00:10:01.85\00:10:05.91 We don't have a monarchy. 00:10:05.94\00:10:07.38 That's why he said, not only will I not reign, 00:10:07.41\00:10:09.05 my son will not reign. 00:10:09.08\00:10:10.55 Well, few years later they said give us a king like 00:10:10.58\00:10:13.27 the other nations and things started going downhill. 00:10:13.30\00:10:16.28 Something else that you find in the story of Gideon. 00:10:16.31\00:10:20.32 His future is guided by the way God uses a fleece. 00:10:20.35\00:10:26.19 You ever heard the expression throw a fleece before the Lord? 00:10:26.22\00:10:28.84 What is a fleece? It's a sheep's skin. 00:10:28.87\00:10:34.40 And what does the lamb represent in the Bible? 00:10:34.43\00:10:37.93 What did God used to cover 00:10:37.96\00:10:39.34 the nakedness of Adam and Eve? 00:10:39.37\00:10:41.73 Fleece, sheep's skin. 00:10:41.76\00:10:45.88 It represents the righteousness of Christ 00:10:45.91\00:10:47.76 and that was the guide for how He was to perceive. 00:10:47.79\00:10:51.94 Another way in which Gideon is a type of Christ. 00:10:51.97\00:10:54.99 Something else you see is, 00:10:55.02\00:10:56.07 you look at the different symbols. 00:10:56.10\00:10:58.57 If you go for instance to-- the story of Gideon 00:10:58.60\00:11:03.58 that tells about there is a dream 00:11:03.61\00:11:06.76 about a loaf of bread that knocks over the enemy. 00:11:06.79\00:11:11.26 One little loaf destroys the-- 00:11:11.29\00:11:13.94 it hits the tents of the Midianites 00:11:13.97\00:11:15.73 and it destroys them. 00:11:15.76\00:11:17.59 Well, what does bread represent? 00:11:17.62\00:11:20.33 Man doesn't live by bread, but by every word of God. 00:11:20.36\00:11:23.17 Christ is the word made flesh 00:11:23.20\00:11:25.74 and so it was the bread of God, 00:11:25.77\00:11:27.84 the word of God that destroyed the enemy. 00:11:27.87\00:11:29.38 Jesus word conquers them. 00:11:29.41\00:11:31.24 And all through the symbols of Gideon, 00:11:31.27\00:11:33.62 it says it was a trumpet, 00:11:33.65\00:11:36.88 a sword, lamps and bread. 00:11:36.91\00:11:41.69 Lift up your voice like a trumpet, 00:11:41.72\00:11:43.15 a symbol for the word of God. 00:11:43.18\00:11:45.19 The word of God is quick 00:11:45.22\00:11:46.27 and powerful and sharper than any two edge sword. 00:11:46.30\00:11:49.05 Sword, the word of God, Ephesians 6, 00:11:49.08\00:11:51.97 "The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." 00:11:52.00\00:11:55.11 And then it tells us that there is a lamb, 00:11:55.14\00:11:57.44 "Thy word is a lamp under my feet" and we already 00:11:57.47\00:11:59.73 talked about the bread, the word of God so, 00:11:59.76\00:12:01.53 what is that Gideon uses to overcome the enemy. 00:12:01.56\00:12:05.27 All these things are symbol of the word. 00:12:05.30\00:12:08.84 How did Christ conquer Satan's domain. 00:12:08.87\00:12:12.44 It was the power of the word that did it. 00:12:12.47\00:12:15.24 And then he also was an example for others. 00:12:15.27\00:12:18.33 You can read when he led them into battle, Judges 7:17. 00:12:18.36\00:12:22.18 Keep in mind, friends, we're doing 00:12:22.21\00:12:23.24 a quick flyover in these stories. 00:12:23.27\00:12:25.37 Its several chapters in the Book of Judges 00:12:25.40\00:12:27.05 you'll need to read. 00:12:27.08\00:12:30.45 Judges 7:17 he said, 00:12:30.48\00:12:32.08 "Look at me and do likewise watch, 00:12:32.11\00:12:36.09 and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do." 00:12:36.12\00:12:40.20 Isn't this what Christ said? 00:12:40.23\00:12:41.26 I have come to give you an example. 00:12:41.29\00:12:42.92 We are to follow Him. 00:12:42.95\00:12:43.98 Even Paul said, "Be followers of me as I'm of Christ." 00:12:44.01\00:12:47.81 Ultimately we are to follow Christ 00:12:47.84\00:12:49.90 and so when you look at the life of Gideon. 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.24 He really was a great example of Christ in many ways. 00:12:52.27\00:12:55.00 I did a two or three part series in Gideon 00:12:55.03\00:12:57.04 and I can't condense that all into this short segment. 00:12:57.07\00:13:01.66 Well, let's jump on to another hero in the Book of Judges. 00:13:01.69\00:13:04.91 Samson, again to take a look at the name, 00:13:04.94\00:13:08.19 the word Samson means like the sun. 00:13:08.22\00:13:10.21 By the way Gideon's name cutter down, 00:13:10.24\00:13:12.42 he cut down the enemy, 00:13:12.45\00:13:14.19 he cut down the altars of Baal 00:13:14.22\00:13:16.11 and that's why he gets that name. 00:13:16.14\00:13:17.75 Samson means like the sun or sunny. 00:13:17.78\00:13:20.88 And not sonny like son but sunny. 00:13:20.91\00:13:26.28 I don't know if his parents thought 00:13:26.31\00:13:27.44 he had a bright disposition, but Samson 00:13:27.47\00:13:30.98 represents like Jesus, the light of the world. 00:13:31.01\00:13:34.10 The Bible says, Christ is like that 00:13:34.13\00:13:35.57 sun of righteousness that will arise with healing in His wings. 00:13:35.60\00:13:39.97 One thing you find first of all, 00:13:40.00\00:13:42.04 Samson is born to parents 00:13:42.07\00:13:44.37 that are barren, it is a miracle birth. 00:13:44.40\00:13:48.31 An angel comes to his mother, 00:13:48.34\00:13:49.82 does an angel come to Jesus' mother? 00:13:49.85\00:13:52.14 Is he considered a miracle birth? 00:13:52.17\00:13:54.86 His life is a planned life with the special mission 00:13:54.89\00:13:58.99 to deliver God's people from their enemies, which he does. 00:13:59.02\00:14:03.84 Something else you find about Samson again, 00:14:03.87\00:14:05.85 I'm rushing through it here? 00:14:05.88\00:14:07.64 Samson is betrayed by his own people 00:14:07.67\00:14:09.96 into the hands of the enemy and he lets them do it. 00:14:09.99\00:14:14.00 You can read about that Judges 15:12. 00:14:14.03\00:14:17.78 The people of Israel, after he-- 00:14:17.81\00:14:19.08 he beat up the Philistines one time. 00:14:19.11\00:14:20.79 The Philistines came to attack the Israelites. 00:14:20.82\00:14:23.28 Said, why are you attacking us? 00:14:23.31\00:14:24.48 They said because what Samson did to us. 00:14:24.51\00:14:26.47 They said, well, we will turn him over to you. 00:14:26.50\00:14:29.24 So, they go to Samson, they said, 00:14:29.27\00:14:30.58 look you need to surrender to us, 00:14:30.61\00:14:31.70 we're gonna tie you up and give you to the enemy. 00:14:31.73\00:14:35.42 And you can read that here. 00:14:35.45\00:14:37.44 They said in Judges 15:12 "We have come down 00:14:37.47\00:14:40.53 to arrest you that we might deliver you 00:14:40.56\00:14:42.21 to the hand of the Philistines. 00:14:42.24\00:14:44.04 The gentiles, we will tie you securely 00:14:44.07\00:14:46.68 and deliver you into their hand." 00:14:46.71\00:14:49.10 Well, isn't that what happened, God's own people, 00:14:49.13\00:14:51.38 betrayed him into the hands of the Gentiles. 00:14:51.41\00:14:55.11 Another time and of course that's when he got the job on, 00:14:55.14\00:14:57.53 he beat them all up. 00:14:57.56\00:14:59.27 Another time they tried to conquer him, 00:14:59.30\00:15:00.81 he was in a city with walls and gates and bars 00:15:00.84\00:15:05.05 and there was no way out and they lay and wait to attack him, 00:15:05.08\00:15:09.69 but it says in Judges 16, 00:15:09.72\00:15:12.02 "But Samson lay only until midnight, 00:15:12.05\00:15:15.07 at midnight he rose up." 00:15:15.10\00:15:16.71 What time is Jesus coming? 00:15:16.74\00:15:18.42 Says he rose up at midnight, 00:15:18.45\00:15:20.30 the bridegroom at midnight they heard a cry. 00:15:20.33\00:15:23.23 "Samson rose at midnight and he took hold of the doors 00:15:23.26\00:15:26.57 of the gate of the city the two posts, 00:15:26.60\00:15:29.46 and he pulls them up, the bar and all, 00:15:29.49\00:15:31.80 takes up these gates of the city with their posts 00:15:31.83\00:15:34.33 put them on his shoulders, he folds the gates together 00:15:34.36\00:15:36.95 lays him on his back and he carries them 00:15:36.98\00:15:39.24 to the top of the hill that is in front of the Hebron." 00:15:39.27\00:15:41.84 Get your Bible map out, you'll find as 10 miles. 00:15:41.87\00:15:46.51 Remember that statement where Jesus says that the-- 00:15:46.54\00:15:49.31 the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. 00:15:49.34\00:15:53.47 He just uproot the gates not only that, 00:15:53.50\00:15:56.14 when it look like that Jesus was held within the tomb 00:15:56.17\00:15:59.08 held by the gates of death, couldn't hold him. 00:15:59.11\00:16:03.20 He uprooted the gates. 00:16:03.23\00:16:05.55 Something else about Samson, 00:16:05.58\00:16:06.78 he is betrayed by a woman 00:16:06.81\00:16:11.56 who he loved for silver. 00:16:11.59\00:16:16.53 Now what does a woman represent in Bible analogy? 00:16:16.56\00:16:19.59 It's a church. 00:16:19.62\00:16:21.05 He loved Delilah and he finally told her everything. 00:16:21.08\00:16:24.73 You know, finally before Christ was turned over to the Romans 00:16:24.76\00:16:28.01 when he was being tried by his church, 00:16:28.04\00:16:30.66 by the Jewish people in the Sanhedrin, 00:16:30.69\00:16:32.40 they said tell us if you are the Christ, 00:16:32.43\00:16:33.49 and finally he said, I'm he. 00:16:33.52\00:16:37.27 It is as you say, and they then betray him. 00:16:37.30\00:16:42.50 Samson was blinded. Did they blind Christ? 00:16:42.53\00:16:46.92 Did they put a bag over his head? 00:16:46.95\00:16:49.83 He was blinded and they tormented him. 00:16:49.86\00:16:54.23 And finally at the end, Samson stretches out his arms 00:16:54.26\00:16:58.56 and in stretching out his arms 00:16:58.59\00:17:00.37 and laying down his life as a sacrifice. 00:17:00.40\00:17:03.65 He defeats the enemies of God's people, 00:17:03.68\00:17:05.87 and the testimony in the Book of Judges is. 00:17:05.90\00:17:08.65 You can read this here in Judges 16:30, 00:17:08.68\00:17:12.28 "Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines! 00:17:12.31\00:17:15.15 And he pushed with all his might, 00:17:15.18\00:17:17.32 and the temple fell on the lords and the people that were in it. 00:17:17.35\00:17:20.41 So the dead that he killed at his death 00:17:20.44\00:17:22.94 were more than he had killed in his life." 00:17:22.97\00:17:25.41 By his death he did more to defeat the enemies 00:17:25.44\00:17:28.77 than he did by his life and by the sacrifice of Christ 00:17:28.80\00:17:32.73 and a successful life that he lived, 00:17:32.76\00:17:35.05 he did more to defeat the enemy. 00:17:35.08\00:17:36.36 By the way, in spite of all the failures of Samson, 00:17:36.39\00:17:39.13 I expect to see him in the kingdom. 00:17:39.16\00:17:41.15 He is mentioned in the Book of Hebrews 00:17:41.18\00:17:42.78 in that list of faithful. 00:17:42.81\00:17:44.90 And the other thing about Samson is that 00:17:44.93\00:17:47.43 that the last act of his life is to be spirit filled. 00:17:47.46\00:17:50.55 Hard to imagine a person being lost 00:17:50.58\00:17:52.98 if the last act of their life is one of sacrifice 00:17:53.01\00:17:56.65 and being filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:17:56.68\00:17:58.86 It seems like its evidence of God's 00:17:58.89\00:18:00.51 finally forgiving and accepting him. 00:18:00.54\00:18:04.09 John 15:13, Jesus said, 00:18:04.12\00:18:06.26 "Greater love has no one than this, 00:18:06.29\00:18:08.61 to lay down his life for his friends." 00:18:08.64\00:18:10.31 Samson laid down his life. 00:18:10.34\00:18:12.59 By the way he was buried in a tomb 00:18:12.62\00:18:14.55 by his friends and family like Christ. 00:18:14.58\00:18:16.81 So, do you see in the life of Samson, 00:18:16.84\00:18:19.67 types and symbols of even Jesus? 00:18:19.70\00:18:23.34 Help me, do you? Okay. 00:18:23.37\00:18:25.75 Next we are gonna go on to Solomon. 00:18:25.78\00:18:27.25 Now we spent a whole section talking about David. 00:18:27.28\00:18:30.24 But I wanted to mention Solomon a little more specifically. 00:18:30.27\00:18:33.28 Solomon is a type of Christ in a number of ways. 00:18:33.31\00:18:35.28 First of all his name means peaceful, 00:18:35.31\00:18:37.69 it's similar to the word shalom, Solomon. 00:18:37.72\00:18:41.40 He was the son of peace. 00:18:41.43\00:18:43.52 Solomon was that great son of David 00:18:43.55\00:18:45.83 who built the temple and so Jesus how often 00:18:45.86\00:18:49.39 was Christ referred to as the son of David. 00:18:49.42\00:18:52.67 And Solomon really represented 00:18:52.70\00:18:54.44 the pinnacle of the kingdom of Israel. 00:18:54.47\00:18:56.87 Never did Israel have more glory 00:18:56.90\00:18:59.33 and more wealth and prosperity 00:18:59.36\00:19:02.17 and more peace than during that generation, 00:19:02.20\00:19:05.03 that 40 years during the time of Solomon. 00:19:05.06\00:19:08.15 Solomon's era is a type of the kingdom of God. 00:19:08.18\00:19:12.79 Even Jesus talking about Solomon he says in Matthew 6:28," 00:19:12.82\00:19:18.47 So why do you worry about clothing? 00:19:18.50\00:19:20.49 Consider the lilies of the field, 00:19:20.52\00:19:22.11 how they grow, they neither toil nor spin 00:19:22.14\00:19:24.65 and yet I say to you that even Solomon 00:19:24.68\00:19:27.03 in all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these." 00:19:27.06\00:19:30.30 He refers back to the most glorious time 00:19:30.33\00:19:32.53 of Israel's history, he points to Solomon. 00:19:32.56\00:19:36.22 And so Solomon now, he is that son of David. 00:19:36.25\00:19:39.24 Matter of fact I have read this many times with 1 Chronicles 17, 00:19:39.27\00:19:43.21 this amazing prophecy by Nathan the prophet 00:19:43.24\00:19:46.16 that foretold the son of David 00:19:46.19\00:19:48.18 was going to build the temple of the Lord. 00:19:48.21\00:19:51.25 And Nathan says there in verse 11 and 12, 00:19:51.28\00:19:53.37 1 Chronicles 17, "And it shall be, 00:19:53.40\00:19:56.77 when your days are fulfilled, 00:19:56.80\00:19:58.76 when you must go to be with your fathers, 00:19:58.79\00:20:01.00 that I will set up your seed after you, 00:20:01.03\00:20:03.22 of your sons, I will establish his kingdom. 00:20:03.25\00:20:07.16 And he will build Me a house, 00:20:07.19\00:20:08.88 and I will establish his throne forever." 00:20:08.91\00:20:12.61 And I always like to ask 00:20:12.64\00:20:14.18 who is Nathan the prophet talking about? 00:20:14.21\00:20:17.57 Is he talking about Solomon or is he talking about Jesus? 00:20:17.60\00:20:22.75 How many say Solomon? I do. 00:20:22.78\00:20:27.59 Did David have a son named Solomon that built the temple? 00:20:27.62\00:20:30.42 What was David praying about before Nathan shows up? 00:20:30.45\00:20:33.27 I would like to build you a temple. 00:20:33.30\00:20:35.20 So, David is praying specifically about 00:20:35.23\00:20:38.04 how we are gonna built a temple? 00:20:38.07\00:20:39.59 Nathan says your son, you are not going to built up 00:20:39.62\00:20:41.34 but your son will build the temple, 00:20:41.37\00:20:42.82 and I will establish his kingdom, 00:20:42.85\00:20:44.58 and I will establish his throne. 00:20:44.61\00:20:47.52 Well, this is what you call in the Bible a dual prophecy? 00:20:47.55\00:20:51.81 It's not a conflict, it was a prophecy about 00:20:51.84\00:20:54.14 David's son Solomon, who is a type of 00:20:54.17\00:20:56.92 David's other son called Jesus. 00:20:56.95\00:21:00.04 That's the throne that would be established forever, 00:21:00.07\00:21:03.00 that's the kingdom that would be established forever. 00:21:03.03\00:21:05.32 And that's the house that would be established forever. 00:21:05.35\00:21:08.88 Solomon, he messed up towards the end of his life. 00:21:08.91\00:21:12.11 The kingdom was spilt, his temple was finally 00:21:12.14\00:21:14.24 destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:21:14.27\00:21:15.74 But the kingdom the throne and the temple of Jesus, 00:21:15.77\00:21:18.65 the Son of David last forever. 00:21:18.68\00:21:21.09 So, do we all agree so far that 00:21:21.12\00:21:22.79 Solomon is a type of Christ in the Bible? 00:21:22.82\00:21:25.92 It's a prophecy that makes it real clear. 00:21:25.95\00:21:27.92 I sometimes wish that I had a church that said more amens. 00:21:27.95\00:21:30.73 I don't want you to be Pentecostal. 00:21:30.76\00:21:32.09 But a few more amens, 00:21:32.12\00:21:33.15 just sprinkle here and there, it help me. 00:21:33.18\00:21:35.69 It help you because if it helps me, it's gonna help you. 00:21:35.72\00:21:38.54 But I'm not fishing for them, I mean you know, or am I. 00:21:38.57\00:21:42.20 I don't want the artificial contrived amens, 00:21:42.23\00:21:44.72 but you know if you think you can give me a genuine one. 00:21:44.75\00:21:48.08 Just help yourself, there you are-- 00:21:48.11\00:21:49.60 you will enjoy your sermon more if you do. 00:21:49.63\00:21:53.92 Alright, we all like encouragement. 00:21:53.95\00:21:56.23 Now, I'm not done with Solomon yet. 00:21:56.26\00:21:58.38 The Queen of Sheba, when she came. 00:21:58.41\00:22:01.15 Remember in the memory verse, the scripture verse 00:22:01.18\00:22:03.15 that we just read at the beginning of the sermon. 00:22:03.18\00:22:05.68 He said the queen of the south came 00:22:05.71\00:22:07.48 to hear the wisdom of Solomon 00:22:07.51\00:22:08.87 but a greater than Solomon is here. 00:22:08.90\00:22:10.96 Again Christ comparing himself with Solomon. 00:22:10.99\00:22:14.25 You can read in 1 King Chapter 10. 00:22:14.28\00:22:15.69 Matter of fact, I just want to go 00:22:15.72\00:22:17.11 in the Bible and read this passage to you. 00:22:17.14\00:22:19.28 I often copy and paste the verse in my notes. 00:22:19.31\00:22:22.60 If you look for instance in 1 King 10:4, 00:22:22.63\00:22:28.83 "And when the Queen of Sheba, she came all this distance 00:22:28.86\00:22:33.32 from Arabia because she had heard 00:22:33.35\00:22:36.02 about Solomon, seeking the truth. 00:22:36.05\00:22:40.13 When she had seen the wisdom of Solomon, 00:22:40.16\00:22:42.77 and the house that he had built, 00:22:42.80\00:22:44.71 and the food on his table, that Jesus built a house 00:22:44.74\00:22:49.08 that Christ unique food on his table 00:22:49.11\00:22:51.26 and the seating of his servants..." 00:22:51.29\00:22:53.64 Did Christ had servants? 00:22:53.67\00:22:55.33 "And the service of his waiters and their apparel..." 00:22:55.36\00:22:57.90 Christ said, as I've come to wait, 00:22:57.93\00:23:00.68 you have come to wait "and his cupbearers..." 00:23:00.71\00:23:05.21 Christ said are you able to drink the cup that I must drink. 00:23:05.24\00:23:08.46 Did he give a cup to his disciples? 00:23:08.49\00:23:10.28 "And the entryway by which they went up 00:23:10.31\00:23:12.19 to the house of the Lord..." the door way, 00:23:12.22\00:23:13.74 Christ said I'm the door. 00:23:13.77\00:23:15.33 All the things that I mentioned here, 00:23:15.36\00:23:16.78 Christ uses His symbols of Himself. 00:23:16.81\00:23:18.57 Did you get that? 00:23:18.60\00:23:20.06 These are the things that convince her. 00:23:20.09\00:23:23.51 "And the entryway by which he went up 00:23:23.54\00:23:24.91 to the house of the Lord, 00:23:24.94\00:23:26.18 there was no more spirit left in her." 00:23:26.21\00:23:28.17 The word there is breath. 00:23:28.20\00:23:30.16 You ever heard someone say a breath taking experience. 00:23:30.19\00:23:33.19 This is where that phrase comes from. 00:23:33.22\00:23:34.96 She was breathless. It was breathtaking. 00:23:34.99\00:23:39.22 She didn't know what to say. 00:23:39.25\00:23:40.28 Here is a queen that's come all this way 00:23:40.31\00:23:41.99 and she has got all these hard questions and he answers 00:23:42.02\00:23:44.44 them and she sees his wisdom. 00:23:44.47\00:23:46.31 Listen to how she responds? 00:23:46.34\00:23:48.42 Then she said to the king, verse 6, 00:23:48.45\00:23:51.08 "It was a true report that I heard 00:23:51.11\00:23:52.82 in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 00:23:52.85\00:23:55.75 How I did not believe, However I did not believe 00:23:55.78\00:23:58.20 the words until I came and saw with my own eyes." 00:23:58.23\00:24:01.20 Jesus had blessed those who believed without seeing. 00:24:01.23\00:24:03.82 "In deed the half was not told me. 00:24:03.85\00:24:06.59 Your wisdom and prosperity exceed 00:24:06.62\00:24:08.52 the fame of which I heard. 00:24:08.55\00:24:10.11 Happy are your men..." 00:24:10.14\00:24:11.47 Don't miss this Jesus said blessed, blessed, blessed. 00:24:11.50\00:24:13.66 "Happy are your men she says to Solomon, 00:24:13.69\00:24:16.13 and happy are these your servants..." 00:24:16.16\00:24:17.96 You want to be happy servant?" 00:24:17.99\00:24:20.16 Follow your Solomon, his name is Jesus, you will be happy. 00:24:20.19\00:24:23.24 "Who stand continually and hear your wisdom! 00:24:23.27\00:24:25.90 Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, 00:24:25.93\00:24:28.65 setting you on the throne of Israel! 00:24:28.68\00:24:30.18 Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, 00:24:30.21\00:24:32.44 therefore He made you king, 00:24:32.47\00:24:33.99 to do justice and righteousness." 00:24:34.02\00:24:35.58 God so loved the world, 00:24:35.61\00:24:36.69 He made Solomon king and Jesus king, right? 00:24:36.72\00:24:41.27 And so this queen, what does a woman represent? 00:24:41.30\00:24:45.48 It was through Christ, the greatest growth 00:24:45.51\00:24:48.74 came to God's people in one generation 00:24:48.77\00:24:51.58 it went from exclusively being Jews, 00:24:51.61\00:24:54.06 Christ bride ended up being pagans, heathen. 00:24:54.09\00:24:59.27 That's why Jesus said, the queen of the south 00:24:59.30\00:25:02.02 shall be in the kingdom and she will rise up in judgment 00:25:02.05\00:25:03.90 against the nation of Israel 00:25:03.93\00:25:05.08 because she came to hear the wisdom of Solomon. 00:25:05.11\00:25:07.69 Who was that ended up accepting Jesus 00:25:07.72\00:25:09.96 and spreading him to the world? 00:25:09.99\00:25:11.63 Was it the Jews? 00:25:11.66\00:25:12.98 Just a handful of Jews believed, the Gentiles said, 00:25:13.01\00:25:15.78 this is the wisdom that we have been looking for 00:25:15.81\00:25:17.87 and the church exploded, it's like the Queen of Sheba 00:25:17.90\00:25:21.88 because they were looking for truth. 00:25:21.91\00:25:23.64 They were searching, she came a long way searching 00:25:23.67\00:25:26.09 for truth and the promise is that you will find it. 00:25:26.12\00:25:29.17 And so here in the Queen of Sheba 00:25:29.20\00:25:30.71 you got another great example of-- 00:25:30.74\00:25:35.30 all right in Solomon in particular of the church 00:25:35.33\00:25:38.73 and of king Solomon you see Jesus there. 00:25:38.76\00:25:42.87 It reminds me of that verse when she says, 00:25:42.90\00:25:45.53 the half was not told me, Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:9 00:25:45.56\00:25:50.93 "But it is written, "Eye has not seen, 00:25:50.96\00:25:53.17 nor ear heard, neither is even entered 00:25:53.20\00:25:55.19 into the heart of man, the things that God 00:25:55.22\00:25:57.06 has prepared for those that love Him." 00:25:57.09\00:25:59.04 Solomon's kingdom during the glory of Solomon's time 00:25:59.07\00:26:01.75 where it says silver wasn't counted for anything, 00:26:01.78\00:26:04.47 it was like stones because everything 00:26:04.50\00:26:06.72 was made of gold during Solomon's time. 00:26:06.75\00:26:08.98 Can you imagine living in a kingdom like that? 00:26:09.01\00:26:12.14 Wow, they won't need a bailout, would they? 00:26:12.17\00:26:17.52 Economy like that, pretty amazing. 00:26:17.55\00:26:20.78 That is a miniature picture of Jesus' kingdom. 00:26:20.81\00:26:24.49 The glory of Christ kingdom that is coming, 00:26:24.52\00:26:27.09 the half is not been told. 00:26:27.12\00:26:28.89 And even if you jump to the book, The Song of Solomon. 00:26:28.92\00:26:33.39 You read through The Song of Solomon 00:26:33.42\00:26:34.70 and some people think that 00:26:34.73\00:26:35.76 this is the R-rated book in the Bible. 00:26:35.79\00:26:38.67 But really the Song of Solomon, 00:26:38.70\00:26:40.12 it's telling about Jesus and His bride. 00:26:40.15\00:26:44.86 Christ love for His church 00:26:44.89\00:26:46.65 and her love for her beloved, the Savior. 00:26:46.68\00:26:50.46 It's a love story probably between Solomon 00:26:50.49\00:26:52.78 and many think it was Abishag the Shunammite, 00:26:52.81\00:26:55.58 that the beautiful bride of David that he never knew 00:26:55.61\00:26:59.79 and it's the love story between them. 00:26:59.82\00:27:04.07 But it's really a love story between Christ and the church 00:27:04.10\00:27:06.30 and some of the words, look for instance. 00:27:06.33\00:27:08.51 Song of Solomon 3:6,7 "Who is this coming out 00:27:08.54\00:27:13.60 of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, 00:27:13.63\00:27:15.92 Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, 00:27:15.95\00:27:18.36 With all the merchant's fragrant powders, 00:27:18.39\00:27:20.56 Behold, it is Solomon's couch, 00:27:20.59\00:27:22.05 With sixty valiant men around it, 00:27:22.08\00:27:23.96 Of the valiant men of Israel." 00:27:23.99\00:27:25.28 You find words of myrrh and frankincense, 00:27:25.31\00:27:28.50 lily of the valley, fairest of ten thousand. 00:27:28.53\00:27:31.45 Any of you ever sung that song before, 00:27:31.48\00:27:32.57 you know, I'm talking about? 00:27:32.60\00:27:34.41 Jonah, remember in the scripture reading, Jesus said, 00:27:34.44\00:27:38.98 the people of Nineveh will stand up in judgment 00:27:39.01\00:27:42.18 with this generation because they repented 00:27:42.21\00:27:44.37 at the preaching of Jonah and a greater than Jonah is here. 00:27:44.40\00:27:48.29 Is Jonah a type of Christ? Jesus seems to tell us he is. 00:27:48.32\00:27:51.83 But how can these characters with all their 00:27:51.86\00:27:54.47 flaws and works be types of Jesus. 00:27:54.50\00:27:56.55 David, look what he did? Samson, look what he did? 00:27:56.58\00:27:59.44 Jonah, he turned and he ran. How can he be a type of Christ? 00:27:59.47\00:28:02.71 Well, they are all imperfect types of Christ. 00:28:02.74\00:28:05.69 But there's things in their lives 00:28:05.72\00:28:07.31 that are giving us glimmers, you can't miss 00:28:07.34\00:28:09.86 and that ought to give you courage. 00:28:09.89\00:28:11.93 Can you represent Jesus in spite of your flaws? 00:28:11.96\00:28:16.16 If you can see Jesus in Jonah, in Samson, in David 00:28:16.19\00:28:20.88 and some of these other interesting characters 00:28:20.91\00:28:24.27 in the Bible, the world can see Jesus in you too. 00:28:24.30\00:28:28.69 Jonah, wrong way Jonah, he ended up going the right way, 00:28:28.72\00:28:33.06 but it was with some resistance and sometimes 00:28:33.09\00:28:34.84 God has to send a storm to turn us around to, doesn't He? 00:28:34.87\00:28:39.09 But how was Jonah like Jesus? 00:28:39.12\00:28:41.92 Well, you can't miss the point that here you have got 00:28:41.95\00:28:44.30 a prophet of God who was sleeping 00:28:44.33\00:28:47.52 in the bottom of a boat during a storm. 00:28:47.55\00:28:50.90 That doesn't happen that often in the Bible 00:28:50.93\00:28:52.61 and he has to be woke up being told they're about to perish. 00:28:52.64\00:28:57.27 Read this, Jonah 1:6, 00:28:57.30\00:29:00.72 "It says, arise the captain said to Jonah, then call on God 00:29:00.75\00:29:04.86 if so be that God will think on us, that we perish not." 00:29:04.89\00:29:08.73 During the storm on the Sea of Galilee 00:29:08.76\00:29:10.50 the disciples came to Jesus and they said in Mark 4:38, 00:29:10.53\00:29:15.18 "He was in the stern that's the bottom, 00:29:15.21\00:29:17.10 just like Jonah, asleep on a pillow, 00:29:17.13\00:29:19.56 and they woke Him and they said, 00:29:19.59\00:29:21.00 "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" 00:29:21.03\00:29:24.85 What a thing to ask Jesus? 00:29:24.88\00:29:26.36 Do you not care that were perishing, does He care? 00:29:26.39\00:29:29.47 He came so that we would not perish. 00:29:29.50\00:29:32.48 Something else you find about Jonah, 00:29:32.51\00:29:34.68 is that he is not only asleep in a boat during the storm, 00:29:34.71\00:29:39.54 but they had to sacrifice Jonah in order to get peace. 00:29:39.57\00:29:47.07 They are trying to figure out why is this storm come upon us. 00:29:47.10\00:29:50.65 Jonah said well it's because of me. 00:29:50.68\00:29:52.70 You know why are they so much trouble in this world today? 00:29:52.73\00:29:56.19 It's Jesus fault, it's because the devil hates Him, 00:29:56.22\00:30:01.46 I want to get your attention. 00:30:01.49\00:30:03.97 It's because the devil hates Jesus, 00:30:04.00\00:30:06.14 he takes it out on you. 00:30:06.17\00:30:07.95 It's because the devil want's Jesus' position, 00:30:07.98\00:30:11.55 that you've got this great controversy going on. 00:30:11.58\00:30:15.47 So they--, a lot fell on Jonah. 00:30:15.50\00:30:17.19 By the way, what is Jonah's name mean? 00:30:17.22\00:30:19.31 Dove. 00:30:19.34\00:30:20.88 Did Christ and the Holy Spirit is a type of the dove. 00:30:20.91\00:30:24.52 And when you say John in the Bible, 00:30:24.55\00:30:26.80 John is a Greek derivative of Jonah. 00:30:26.83\00:30:30.04 Everybody in the Bible that you've heard the name John 00:30:30.07\00:30:32.31 they named their sons after Jonah. 00:30:32.34\00:30:34.98 It's the Greek way of saying Jonah. 00:30:35.01\00:30:37.64 And whenever you hear the name Judas, 00:30:37.67\00:30:43.61 is the Greek way of saying Judah. 00:30:43.64\00:30:46.49 And so that Judah wasn't the bad guy. 00:30:46.52\00:30:48.15 Well, you wouldn't want to name your son Judas, would you? 00:30:48.18\00:30:51.58 And so just--I don't know why I said that anyway. 00:30:51.61\00:30:54.57 So back to the story of Jonah. 00:30:54.60\00:30:56.77 So he says that you want peace, you got to cast me into the sea. 00:30:56.80\00:30:59.88 And I always thought to myself 00:30:59.91\00:31:00.95 if they are not going to have peace 00:31:00.98\00:31:02.09 unless he is in the water, 00:31:02.12\00:31:03.58 why didn't he just jump overboard. 00:31:03.61\00:31:06.26 But he said, no you've got to take responsibility 00:31:06.29\00:31:11.22 for throwing me in. 00:31:11.25\00:31:12.49 They didn't want to do that, they try to save themselves. 00:31:12.52\00:31:15.28 He said, the only way is you got to sacrifice me. 00:31:15.31\00:31:17.85 They're trying to row, 00:31:17.88\00:31:18.91 but the sea got more tempestuous. 00:31:18.94\00:31:21.69 Finally they said, Lord, 00:31:21.72\00:31:23.18 do not lay innocent blood to our charge. 00:31:23.21\00:31:26.17 You know, when Christ was betrayed 00:31:26.20\00:31:27.89 they called that innocent blood. 00:31:27.92\00:31:30.49 Judas said, I am guilty of innocent blood. 00:31:30.52\00:31:33.90 So they took up Jonah said, one, two, three 00:31:33.93\00:31:35.93 and they heaved him overboard. 00:31:35.96\00:31:37.54 And they had instant peace. 00:31:37.57\00:31:38.75 When Christ spoke was there peace during the storm? 00:31:38.78\00:31:41.62 A supernatural peace comes into our lives 00:31:41.65\00:31:45.11 when we accept Jesus as our sacrifice. 00:31:45.14\00:31:48.35 And so we're not done. 00:31:48.38\00:31:49.83 Then it says he was a sign to the Ninevites. 00:31:49.86\00:31:53.64 Jonah was-- 00:31:53.67\00:31:54.85 Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days journey. 00:31:54.88\00:31:58.65 And it says he made this trip. 00:31:58.68\00:32:02.36 We don't know exactly where the fish burped him out. 00:32:02.39\00:32:04.64 But it was somewhere probably further north 00:32:04.67\00:32:06.97 'cause they are on their way to Tarsus 00:32:07.00\00:32:08.23 and the storm blew them north. 00:32:08.26\00:32:10.00 And from wherever the shore he was, 00:32:10.03\00:32:12.14 he went three days to Nineveh, then he enters the city, 00:32:12.17\00:32:15.69 a day's journey which means 12 hours. 00:32:15.72\00:32:18.49 And he begins to preach. 00:32:18.52\00:32:20.45 After three and a half day journey, he then preaches. 00:32:20.48\00:32:26.18 By the way, he came from the water, 00:32:26.21\00:32:28.70 three and a half days later he is preaching, 00:32:28.73\00:32:31.38 in 40 days it will be destroyed. 00:32:31.41\00:32:32.71 Jesus comes from baptism, 00:32:32.74\00:32:35.11 He preaches three and a half years 00:32:35.14\00:32:37.33 and says in the generation 00:32:37.36\00:32:39.06 that Jerusalem would be destroyed in 40 years. 00:32:39.09\00:32:42.45 That's why Jesus said, Jonah is a sign to use, 00:32:42.48\00:32:46.50 speaking to the Jews, this generation. 00:32:46.53\00:32:49.14 Except they repented the preaching of Jonah 00:32:49.17\00:32:51.15 and a greater than Jonah is here, 00:32:51.18\00:32:53.11 your Messiah is here and you are not repenting. 00:32:53.14\00:32:55.29 Nineveh was not destroyed after 40 days 'cause they repented, 00:32:55.32\00:32:58.07 Jerusalem was destroyed after 40 years 00:32:58.10\00:33:00.79 because they did not repent. 00:33:00.82\00:33:02.61 Does that make sense? 00:33:02.64\00:33:04.41 It was a sign. 00:33:04.44\00:33:06.49 And so Jonah is another great sign. 00:33:06.52\00:33:09.06 What was the first message 00:33:09.09\00:33:10.12 that Jesus gave after He began preaching? 00:33:10.15\00:33:12.63 Repent. 00:33:12.66\00:33:14.24 What did Jonah says as he marched up and down 00:33:14.27\00:33:15.84 the streets of Nineveh. 00:33:15.87\00:33:17.72 It was a message of repentance also. 00:33:17.75\00:33:21.12 Actually he said, in 40 days the city will be destroyed 00:33:21.15\00:33:23.26 and they did repent. 00:33:23.29\00:33:25.05 So Jonah is another wonderful example of Christ in the Bible. 00:33:25.08\00:33:28.22 Can you see that, friends? 00:33:28.25\00:33:30.69 Turn to the Book of Daniel now. 00:33:30.72\00:33:34.90 Wonderful story again. 00:33:34.93\00:33:36.21 I'm watching the clock 00:33:36.24\00:33:37.27 as I've got a lot of characters left here. 00:33:37.30\00:33:40.65 And I can't tell you all about Daniel, it's a big book. 00:33:40.68\00:33:43.70 But why don't you go to Daniel 6. 00:33:43.73\00:33:45.32 Let's look at Daniel in the lion's den. 00:33:45.35\00:33:48.64 Daniel 6:4. 00:33:48.67\00:33:50.49 First of all just the background. 00:33:53.19\00:33:55.23 The king was please with Daniel. 00:33:55.26\00:33:56.76 He is making his new administration 00:33:56.79\00:33:58.33 and he is so inspired with Daniel's faithfulness. 00:33:58.36\00:34:01.62 He says he is filled with the spirit of God. 00:34:01.65\00:34:03.97 He is thinking him to set Daniel over the whole realm. 00:34:04.00\00:34:07.72 And the other leaders in the kingdom 00:34:07.75\00:34:09.55 were jealous about this 00:34:09.58\00:34:10.74 that the king Darius is going take Daniel, 00:34:10.77\00:34:12.85 a Jewish captive and make him their boss. 00:34:12.88\00:34:17.31 He doesn't have the education that they've got. 00:34:17.34\00:34:21.07 We're going to get him out of the way. 00:34:21.10\00:34:22.81 Why did the religious leaders want to execute 00:34:22.84\00:34:25.40 and get rid of Jesus? 00:34:25.43\00:34:27.04 Weren't they jealous when Christ said, 00:34:27.07\00:34:28.31 He was the Son of God? 00:34:28.34\00:34:29.62 Weren't they jealous of His position? 00:34:29.65\00:34:31.85 Were they mad at Jesus because of His badness 00:34:31.88\00:34:35.21 or where they threatened by His goodness? 00:34:35.24\00:34:39.48 The other politicians in Darius' kingdom, 00:34:39.51\00:34:42.07 were they upset because Daniel is a corrupt politician 00:34:42.10\00:34:46.12 or they're threatened by his honesty? 00:34:46.15\00:34:48.13 They were threatened by his goodness. 00:34:49.63\00:34:51.81 And his goodness made their badness standout. 00:34:51.84\00:34:53.47 So you know what they did? 00:34:53.50\00:34:54.53 Is they had spies followed Daniel around. 00:34:54.56\00:34:58.04 Did Jesus have spies following Him around 00:34:58.07\00:35:00.74 sent by His enemies? 00:35:00.77\00:35:02.13 Trying to catch him in something. 00:35:02.16\00:35:04.23 What was the report 00:35:04.26\00:35:05.78 when the spies followed Daniel around? 00:35:05.81\00:35:08.67 Says they found no error, I'm in Daniel 6:4. 00:35:08.70\00:35:12.92 "He was faithful, nor was there any error 00:35:12.95\00:35:16.17 or fault found in him." 00:35:16.20\00:35:18.30 If you wonder sometimes how perfect you're supposed to be. 00:35:18.33\00:35:21.05 If you get that far you're doing great. 00:35:21.08\00:35:22.67 Just be like Daniel, 00:35:22.70\00:35:23.73 was he human or was he an alien? 00:35:23.76\00:35:26.63 If Daniel can have that experience and can you? 00:35:26.66\00:35:29.52 By God's grace you can. 00:35:29.55\00:35:31.90 He was consistent. 00:35:31.93\00:35:34.98 Did they follow Jesus around and they came back. 00:35:35.01\00:35:37.45 And when they said, why haven't you brought him. 00:35:37.48\00:35:39.11 They said, you know, no man speaks like this man. 00:35:39.14\00:35:43.02 What did Pilate say about Jesus twice during the trial, 00:35:43.05\00:35:45.95 I find no fault in Him. 00:35:45.98\00:35:48.18 They couldn't find any error or fault in Jesus. 00:35:48.21\00:35:51.32 Well, finally they say we're going to only get him 00:35:51.35\00:35:53.98 concerning the law of his God. 00:35:54.01\00:35:56.55 We got to find something concerning 00:35:56.58\00:35:57.92 the law of his God and trap him. 00:35:57.95\00:36:00.67 And so they knew that he pray three times a day. 00:36:00.70\00:36:04.54 Did Jesus have a life of prayer? 00:36:04.57\00:36:07.07 A great while before it was day, He rose up to pray morning, 00:36:07.10\00:36:11.09 he prayed in the middle of the day. 00:36:11.12\00:36:13.60 You can see that when he is feeding the multitudes. 00:36:13.63\00:36:15.66 And in the Garden of Gethsemane 00:36:15.69\00:36:17.14 you see him praying in the evening. 00:36:17.17\00:36:18.56 By the way, Daniel was praying 00:36:18.59\00:36:20.21 just before he was arrested. 00:36:20.24\00:36:22.85 Jesus was praying just before He was arrested. 00:36:22.88\00:36:27.29 And so another type of Christ. 00:36:27.32\00:36:28.55 Well, when the king found out what had happened, 00:36:28.58\00:36:31.02 he said it's hard on Daniel and they labor to deliver him, 00:36:31.05\00:36:33.82 but the only way was for Daniel 00:36:33.85\00:36:37.90 to go to the lion's den or he go through his penalty. 00:36:37.93\00:36:40.89 Christ prayed Father if there is any other way. 00:36:40.92\00:36:43.50 Let this cup pass for Me. 00:36:43.53\00:36:45.26 But if you and I are going to be saved, 00:36:45.29\00:36:46.81 there was no other way 00:36:46.84\00:36:47.87 because we've all broken the law and the law cannot be changed. 00:36:47.90\00:36:52.25 Three times it says there maybe four times in Daniel 6. 00:36:52.28\00:36:55.47 You'll have to check later. 00:36:55.50\00:36:57.45 The law of the Medes and the Persians 00:36:57.48\00:36:59.06 which cannot be changed, it cannot be altar. 00:36:59.09\00:37:01.29 The law of the Medes and the Persians 00:37:01.32\00:37:02.54 would change it not. Remember that? 00:37:02.57\00:37:05.64 If these earthly kings cannot change their law, 00:37:05.67\00:37:08.15 what makes us think that God of heaven 00:37:08.18\00:37:09.46 is going to change the Ten Commandments. 00:37:09.49\00:37:12.29 It's absurdly when preachers-- 00:37:12.32\00:37:13.63 I can't understand what they are going to go 00:37:13.66\00:37:15.65 through when these preachers find out how wrong 00:37:15.68\00:37:17.98 they are to say that God changed His covenant. 00:37:18.01\00:37:21.48 The new covenant is written in the heart, 00:37:21.51\00:37:23.27 old covenant was on the stone 00:37:23.30\00:37:24.46 but the covenant is not changed. 00:37:24.49\00:37:26.44 It's the law of God. It's a new covenant. 00:37:26.47\00:37:30.14 Do you understand what I'm saying? 00:37:30.17\00:37:31.23 His law did not change. 00:37:31.26\00:37:32.98 New covenant is the law of God written in the heart. 00:37:33.01\00:37:36.04 It's not okay now for Christians to seal, 00:37:36.07\00:37:38.31 and to rob, and to lie, or break the Sabbath. 00:37:38.34\00:37:42.82 It's all part of His law. There was no other way. 00:37:42.85\00:37:46.29 Bible says the King Dirus, he didn't want to execute Daniel. 00:37:46.32\00:37:50.77 Did Pilate want to execute Jesus? 00:37:50.80\00:37:53.96 He labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him, 00:37:53.99\00:37:58.02 Darius did, that's Daniel 6:14. 00:37:58.05\00:38:02.11 What time of day was Jesus executed? 00:38:02.14\00:38:04.63 Or did He finally die? Going down of the sun. 00:38:04.66\00:38:08.58 "And then a stone was brought" Daniel 6:17 00:38:08.61\00:38:12.24 "and laid on the mouth of the lions den." 00:38:12.27\00:38:15.56 Was there a stone placed on Christ grave? 00:38:15.59\00:38:19.95 "And it was sealed with 00:38:19.98\00:38:21.37 the signet of the king and their lords." 00:38:21.40\00:38:24.46 Was there a government seal placed on Christ grave? 00:38:24.49\00:38:29.60 And the king went to the palace 00:38:29.63\00:38:30.71 and he pass the night in fasting. 00:38:30.74\00:38:33.45 Nor any instruments and music brought the form. 00:38:33.48\00:38:36.36 And he wondered what was the Father in heaven 00:38:36.39\00:38:38.11 and what were the angels doing when Christ was in the tomb, 00:38:38.14\00:38:40.35 were they celebrating? 00:38:40.38\00:38:42.82 No, they were silence during that time. 00:38:42.85\00:38:47.91 That says very early in the morning. 00:38:47.94\00:38:50.07 Daniel 6:19. "The king arose 00:38:50.10\00:38:52.37 and went in haste to the lions den." 00:38:52.40\00:38:54.08 What time of day did Jesus rise? 00:38:54.11\00:38:56.96 Did Jesus come out of alive? Did Daniel come out alive? 00:38:56.99\00:39:01.70 Was Daniel innocent? Amen. 00:39:01.73\00:39:04.37 Matter of fact, Daniel says when the king calls out. 00:39:04.40\00:39:07.03 It's interesting when the king puts him in the lions den, 00:39:07.06\00:39:09.75 the king says your God who you serve 00:39:09.78\00:39:12.43 continually He will deliver you. 00:39:12.46\00:39:14.96 When he goes to get up from the lion's den 00:39:14.99\00:39:17.06 he's not quite as confident, he said, Daniel, 00:39:17.09\00:39:19.73 has your God been able to deliver you? 00:39:19.76\00:39:22.29 And this voice comes echoing out of the lion's den. 00:39:22.32\00:39:25.07 O, king live forever, forever, forever, 00:39:25.10\00:39:27.33 my God has sent His angel and shut the lion's mouth 00:39:27.36\00:39:31.28 and as much as I was innocent. 00:39:31.31\00:39:34.99 Daniel said, I was innocent. Jesus was innocent. 00:39:35.02\00:39:39.24 What does the lion represent? 00:39:39.27\00:39:42.14 Be sober, be vigilant 00:39:42.17\00:39:43.40 because your adversary the devil goes around 00:39:43.43\00:39:45.72 as a roaring lion seeking whom he might devour. 00:39:45.75\00:39:49.63 Jesus said that devil comes and he has nothing in me. 00:39:49.66\00:39:54.05 The lions could not keep Daniel, 00:39:54.08\00:39:57.01 the lion, the devil could not keep Jesus in the grave. 00:39:57.04\00:40:01.88 They both came out of life. Do you see a parallel here? 00:40:01.91\00:40:04.52 You understand. Amen. 00:40:04.55\00:40:05.58 This is just one little segment in the story. 00:40:05.61\00:40:09.08 All of the Bible is about Jesus. 00:40:09.11\00:40:10.85 This to me is one of the most convincing proofs 00:40:10.88\00:40:13.28 of the inspiration of the Bible. 00:40:13.31\00:40:15.64 Go with me to the story of Esther. 00:40:15.67\00:40:19.45 In the Book of Esther and again I think I've got 00:40:19.48\00:40:21.86 a three or four parts series on Esther. 00:40:21.89\00:40:23.84 I don't have time to cover it all, 00:40:23.87\00:40:24.92 but there is so many types of not only Jesus in here 00:40:24.95\00:40:28.62 but the church 'cause Esther is not really type of Christ. 00:40:28.65\00:40:33.14 Esther is a type of the church. But Mordecai is a type of Jesus. 00:40:33.17\00:40:40.84 For instance they are separated. 00:40:40.87\00:40:44.92 Mordecai said, look, I can't get inside 00:40:44.95\00:40:47.17 that pagan compound called the palace, 00:40:47.20\00:40:50.60 but Esther you can, you will be 00:40:50.63\00:40:52.11 the representative of your people in there. 00:40:52.14\00:40:54.21 You will show your beauty there in that palace. 00:40:54.24\00:40:57.75 Christ church Jesus is not in the world now, 00:40:57.78\00:41:00.98 He said I've send you into the world. 00:41:01.01\00:41:03.08 We have to represent Jesus in this pagan world, 00:41:03.11\00:41:05.44 aren't we? This lost world. 00:41:05.47\00:41:08.46 And so there is a law made because 00:41:08.49\00:41:12.70 Mordecai will not bow down. 00:41:12.73\00:41:14.65 Well, he will not break the commandments of God, 00:41:14.68\00:41:16.87 he will not bow down to Haman. 00:41:16.90\00:41:20.10 And because of that, Haman wants to exterminate 00:41:20.13\00:41:23.13 all of Mordecai's people, the Jews. 00:41:23.16\00:41:27.52 Did the devil want Jesus to bow down to him? 00:41:27.55\00:41:30.44 And because Jesus wouldn't bow down to him, 00:41:30.47\00:41:32.08 does the devil take out his wrath 00:41:32.11\00:41:33.34 on the church, on all of God's people? 00:41:33.37\00:41:36.27 Will all of God's people be miraculously 00:41:36.30\00:41:38.28 delivered in the end? 00:41:38.31\00:41:39.80 In the last days is there going to be a death decree 00:41:39.83\00:41:42.23 to annihilate God's people because we don't break 00:41:42.26\00:41:44.22 His commandment, 'cause we won't compromise. 00:41:44.25\00:41:48.19 And by the way, what was that Haman did, 00:41:48.22\00:41:50.76 what were his plans for Mordecai? 00:41:50.79\00:41:52.82 He built the big gallows 'cause he was going to hang him 00:41:52.85\00:41:55.54 between heaven and earth. 00:41:55.57\00:41:56.61 What was the devil's plan for Jesus? 00:41:56.64\00:41:59.33 Wasn't it to hang Him between heaven and earth? 00:41:59.36\00:42:01.63 All through this, you see the story 00:42:01.66\00:42:03.36 of the gospel and Jesus has revealed. 00:42:03.39\00:42:06.87 But back more specifically to Mordecai. 00:42:06.90\00:42:09.05 At one point you see him with his clothes torn 00:42:09.08\00:42:12.65 and he is in the gate and he is praying. 00:42:12.68\00:42:15.76 There is a period of praying and fasting for three days here. 00:42:15.79\00:42:19.54 You know, it's interesting when you read the Book of Esther. 00:42:19.57\00:42:22.50 You do not hear the word pray in the Book of Esther, 00:42:22.53\00:42:26.57 you do not hear the word God. 00:42:26.60\00:42:29.02 He talks about them fasting, but doesn't mention prayer. 00:42:29.05\00:42:32.75 It talks all about the providence of God, 00:42:32.78\00:42:34.74 the deliverance of God, but you do not find 00:42:34.77\00:42:36.51 the name of God in the Book of Esther. You know why? 00:42:36.54\00:42:39.51 It was written while they were slaves and captives 00:42:39.54\00:42:42.02 in the Persian land and if they had included 00:42:42.05\00:42:45.05 the name of God or praying to their God 00:42:45.08\00:42:47.24 in this book remember Dairus, 00:42:47.27\00:42:49.60 nobody prayed anyone but the king. 00:42:49.63\00:42:51.60 The book might have been destroy, 00:42:51.63\00:42:53.24 so the book is very carefully written to show 00:42:53.27\00:42:55.57 the providence of God and how God answers prayer. 00:42:55.60\00:42:58.48 They talk about fasting, they don't use the word pray. 00:42:58.51\00:43:01.69 Talking about the providence of God, 00:43:01.72\00:43:03.08 the deliverance of God but they don't say God's name. 00:43:03.11\00:43:06.22 It's a very interesting book, only book that was not found 00:43:06.25\00:43:08.82 among the Dead Sea scrolls 00:43:08.85\00:43:10.30 in part or whole was the Book of Esther. 00:43:10.33\00:43:13.76 And some believe it's because the earliest scene, 00:43:13.79\00:43:18.93 Judas was very devout rabbi. 00:43:18.96\00:43:21.83 They said the name of God doesn't appear in here, 00:43:21.86\00:43:24.10 so can we store it with the other books 00:43:24.13\00:43:26.88 and so-but I'm sure glad it's in the Bible. 00:43:26.91\00:43:28.60 I believe it's an inspired book. 00:43:28.63\00:43:30.53 Anyway then you read, how there is a great reversal of fortunes, 00:43:30.56\00:43:33.58 Haman ends up getting destroyed 00:43:33.61\00:43:35.32 in the gallows he built for Mordecai. 00:43:35.35\00:43:39.02 Haman who wanted to be king, 00:43:39.05\00:43:41.27 he has to march Mordecai through the streets, 00:43:41.30\00:43:43.54 it was a great story, you remember that? 00:43:43.57\00:43:45.97 He goes to the king and he says he is coming to get 00:43:46.00\00:43:49.00 the execution of Mordecai 00:43:49.03\00:43:52.63 and the king meanwhile he can't sleep. 00:43:52.66\00:43:55.37 And he is up at night, he says you know, 00:43:55.40\00:43:56.86 it's really boring when they read the Chronicles to me. 00:43:56.89\00:43:58.86 He says, why don't you read the Chronicles to me, 00:43:58.89\00:44:00.19 maybe they'll put me to sleep. 00:44:00.22\00:44:02.33 You know, many people come up to me 00:44:02.36\00:44:03.72 and I don't think they realize what they are saying. 00:44:03.75\00:44:05.47 They say oh, Pastor Doug, we really love your sermons, 00:44:05.50\00:44:07.56 whenever I can't sleep I put them on. 00:44:07.59\00:44:10.04 They really, really say that, really. 00:44:10.07\00:44:13.16 And they think they are complementing me 00:44:13.19\00:44:15.73 but what I'm hearing is that I sedate them. 00:44:15.76\00:44:20.62 Anyway so the king says read the Chronicles to me 00:44:20.65\00:44:23.28 and so they are reading the Chronicles and they says 00:44:23.31\00:44:24.84 there was an assassination plot and the king opens one eye, 00:44:24.87\00:44:27.87 to kill king as where as Mordecai 00:44:27.90\00:44:32.21 revealed the plot and save the king. 00:44:32.24\00:44:33.68 And he goes, well, yeah, it was a close call. 00:44:33.71\00:44:36.15 Did we ever do anything for that guy, Mordecai? 00:44:36.18\00:44:38.55 Well, let's check the footnotes here. 00:44:38.58\00:44:40.96 No king, never, no reward, no thank you, no nothing. 00:44:40.99\00:44:44.46 Well, that's not very kingly. 00:44:44.49\00:44:46.93 So I got to do something, 00:44:46.96\00:44:48.00 I don't know what shall I do for him, 00:44:48.03\00:44:49.29 while he is thinking what do I do for Mordecai 00:44:49.32\00:44:52.37 who revealed this to other guys, these eunuchs, 00:44:52.40\00:44:55.47 that we're going to kill the king, assassination. 00:44:55.50\00:44:58.05 In walks Haman to ask where 00:44:58.08\00:44:59.67 the death decree for none other than Mordecai. 00:44:59.70\00:45:03.93 And so the king says hey, I'm glad you are here Haman. 00:45:03.96\00:45:07.24 I need to ask you a question. 00:45:07.27\00:45:09.17 What should I do for the one I want to honor? 00:45:09.20\00:45:12.78 And Haman is so self-centered, he thinks, 00:45:12.81\00:45:16.28 well, who would the king want to honor more than me, me, me. 00:45:16.31\00:45:20.92 And he says well, get the king's horse, 00:45:20.95\00:45:25.09 that beautiful white horse, that majestic stallion. 00:45:25.12\00:45:27.79 Put the king's saddle on it and they put 00:45:27.82\00:45:29.69 the king's robe on him, 00:45:29.72\00:45:30.75 put the king's crown on his head, 00:45:30.78\00:45:31.96 get the king's servants because all the servants 00:45:31.99\00:45:34.14 are walking in front, he said that shall be done 00:45:34.17\00:45:35.99 for the one whom the king wants to honor 00:45:36.02\00:45:37.82 and parade him up and down the street 00:45:37.85\00:45:39.03 shouting with fanfare like the king. 00:45:39.06\00:45:43.05 What did Haman want? 00:45:43.08\00:45:45.47 Have the abundance of the mouth 00:45:45.50\00:45:46.53 the heart speak, he wanted to be king. 00:45:46.56\00:45:49.74 Time if he had gone on much longer, 00:45:49.77\00:45:51.24 he would have probably try to assassinate the king. 00:45:51.27\00:45:54.07 What does the devil want? I will be like the Most High. 00:45:54.10\00:45:58.13 And so can you imagine the look, 00:45:58.16\00:45:59.45 I wish I had a photograph of Haman's face 00:45:59.48\00:46:03.69 when the king says to him, that sounds good enough to me. 00:46:03.72\00:46:06.33 I tell you, what I want to do everything 00:46:06.36\00:46:08.38 that you just said there and he is probably 00:46:08.41\00:46:10.38 smiling yes, yes, to Mordecai. 00:46:10.41\00:46:16.36 Talk about the reversal. 00:46:16.39\00:46:18.01 You know, the Bible says he who exalts himself 00:46:18.04\00:46:19.88 will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted. 00:46:19.91\00:46:22.82 Jesus humbled himself and He will be exalted, 00:46:22.85\00:46:24.75 the devil who exalted himself will be humbled. 00:46:24.78\00:46:28.24 And then in the end, you can see this 00:46:28.27\00:46:29.91 great exaltation of Mordecai, 00:46:29.94\00:46:32.38 all the enemies of God are killed, 00:46:32.41\00:46:34.25 the people of God are delivered just like 00:46:34.28\00:46:36.06 when Jesus comes at the last day 00:46:36.09\00:46:37.59 when there is to be an annihilation of the church. 00:46:37.62\00:46:40.51 And you read here in Esther 8:15, 00:46:40.54\00:46:44.02 "So Mordecai went out from the presence 00:46:44.05\00:46:45.87 of the king in royal apparel in blue and white, 00:46:45.90\00:46:49.07 with a great crown of gold and a garment 00:46:49.10\00:46:51.64 of fine linen and purple, 00:46:51.67\00:46:53.56 and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad." 00:46:53.59\00:46:56.67 When Christ is glorified, there will be gladness. 00:46:56.70\00:46:59.03 Esther 9:4. "For Mordecai was great 00:46:59.06\00:47:03.15 in the king's palace, and his fame spread 00:47:03.18\00:47:05.23 throughout all the provinces, 00:47:05.26\00:47:06.56 for this man Mordecai became increasingly prominent." 00:47:06.59\00:47:09.78 None was greater in the palace 00:47:09.81\00:47:11.01 besides the king than Mordecai. 00:47:11.04\00:47:13.33 You notice all these types of Christ in the Bible 00:47:13.36\00:47:15.18 become like second to the King Christ. 00:47:15.21\00:47:17.20 He is second only in the authority to the Father. 00:47:17.23\00:47:19.83 Joseph, second to the king. Daniel, second to the king. 00:47:19.86\00:47:22.49 And they often go from the prison to the palace. 00:47:22.52\00:47:24.98 Mordecai, he is in rags at the king's gate 00:47:25.01\00:47:27.65 and then he is in robes in the palace. 00:47:27.68\00:47:30.63 As Christ went from the rags of this world 00:47:30.66\00:47:33.06 to the right hand of the Father, didn't He? 00:47:33.09\00:47:35.64 It's all telling us about Jesus. 00:47:35.67\00:47:39.13 And the Jews, Esther 8:16 it says 00:47:39.16\00:47:42.12 "They had gladness, joy and honor." 00:47:42.15\00:47:45.04 And that's what God's people can expect. 00:47:45.07\00:47:46.92 Story of Nehemiah, another great example in the Bible. 00:47:46.95\00:47:50.87 And again all condenses. 00:47:50.90\00:47:52.26 But he comes from the palace, he crosses that desert 00:47:52.29\00:47:56.96 and he comes to seek the welfare of God's people. 00:47:56.99\00:47:59.48 He intercedes with the king, Nehemiah. 00:47:59.51\00:48:02.41 By the way, Esther was sitting by the king when he does it. 00:48:02.44\00:48:05.54 He intercedes with the king. 00:48:05.57\00:48:07.44 I'll try to do this sequentially for you. 00:48:07.47\00:48:09.75 And he then comes to seek the welfare of God's people 00:48:09.78\00:48:12.84 to build up the city of God, to build up the gates, 00:48:12.87\00:48:15.99 to build up the walls, to give them protection. 00:48:16.02\00:48:18.89 And he is their governor, and he is like Christ, 00:48:18.92\00:48:20.94 and he provides for the people when he comes from the king. 00:48:20.97\00:48:24.91 But the devil, the enemies around God's people, 00:48:24.94\00:48:27.43 they do everything they can 00:48:27.46\00:48:28.96 to keep the city from being built up. 00:48:28.99\00:48:32.56 In this world is a devil do everything 00:48:32.59\00:48:33.95 he can to breakdown the church. 00:48:33.98\00:48:36.34 You read the story of Nehemiah and you'll see 00:48:36.37\00:48:38.14 that they use threats, they used ridicule, 00:48:38.17\00:48:42.08 they used mocking, they tried to breakdown the moral, 00:48:42.11\00:48:45.91 the did everything they could to keep them 00:48:45.94\00:48:48.46 from building up the city of God, 00:48:48.49\00:48:50.66 but Nehemiah would not be deterred 00:48:50.69\00:48:53.90 and he continued until he built up the walls. 00:48:53.93\00:48:56.32 So here is one verse in particular 00:48:56.35\00:48:57.56 I want you to look at. Nehemiah 6:3. 00:48:57.59\00:49:01.85 His three enemies, you often find yourself 00:49:01.88\00:49:06.20 three fold enemy alliance, even with Gideon 00:49:06.23\00:49:10.30 it was the Amalekites, and the Midianites, 00:49:10.33\00:49:12.14 and the people of the east, 00:49:12.17\00:49:13.20 the three fold alliance kind of a counterfeit trinity. 00:49:13.23\00:49:16.98 The beast, the dragon, the false prophet. 00:49:17.01\00:49:19.93 So this is three fold alliance, it's Sanballat, and Tobiah, 00:49:19.96\00:49:24.71 and the Arabians and they sent Nehemiah. 00:49:24.74\00:49:28.53 And they said, look, you know, well, 00:49:28.56\00:49:30.22 we've had a disagreement long enough. 00:49:30.25\00:49:31.71 Why don't we compromise a little bit here? 00:49:31.74\00:49:33.40 Why don't you come down to the valley of Ono 00:49:33.43\00:49:36.08 and we'll talk about it together. 00:49:36.11\00:49:37.63 Let's negotiate, let's compromise, 00:49:37.66\00:49:39.30 we can find some middle ground. 00:49:39.33\00:49:41.77 We'll give you what you want. 00:49:41.80\00:49:43.53 Isn't the devil trying to do that with the church? 00:49:43.56\00:49:46.55 Let's compromise, we'll work with you, 00:49:46.58\00:49:49.19 we'll help you build up your church, 00:49:49.22\00:49:50.43 you just adopt some of our ways, 00:49:50.46\00:49:52.05 and we will adopt some of your ways 00:49:52.08\00:49:53.86 and that's what the devil tries to do, 00:49:53.89\00:49:55.86 he tries to neutralize the power of the church 00:49:55.89\00:49:57.37 to compromise with the world. 00:49:57.40\00:50:00.21 And I love what they say. 00:50:00.24\00:50:01.89 They say come down that we can talk about this. 00:50:01.92\00:50:04.50 Nehemiah 6:3, they said come down 00:50:04.53\00:50:09.25 "And I sent response to them, saying, 00:50:09.28\00:50:11.32 "I am doing a great work, so I cannot come down. 00:50:11.35\00:50:14.94 Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?" 00:50:14.97\00:50:18.61 They sent this message to me four times, 00:50:18.64\00:50:20.98 I answered them in the same manner. 00:50:21.01\00:50:22.95 Four times Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, 00:50:22.98\00:50:24.88 I give them the same answer. 00:50:24.91\00:50:27.03 I'm doing a great work, I'm not coming down. 00:50:27.06\00:50:28.77 When Christ was on the cross, were there are those at 00:50:28.80\00:50:31.35 the base of the cross who said, 00:50:31.38\00:50:32.77 if you are the Christ come on down, 00:50:32.80\00:50:35.07 we'll believe you, we'll talk about it. 00:50:35.10\00:50:37.73 And He would not come down. 00:50:37.76\00:50:40.18 He said, I'm doing a great work. 00:50:40.21\00:50:42.41 That great work is His sacrifice for us. 00:50:42.44\00:50:47.19 And then you know, maybe I'll close with this. 00:50:47.22\00:50:49.67 I'm going to jump for the first time not right here, 00:50:49.70\00:50:54.18 I'm going to jump to the New Testament. 00:50:54.21\00:50:56.13 And I'm going to show you even in the New Testament stories. 00:50:56.16\00:50:59.68 You find a lot of types for Jesus. 00:50:59.71\00:51:02.75 One of several I could point to you, 00:51:02.78\00:51:04.40 I mean, you know, 00:51:04.43\00:51:05.46 I could talk to you about Philemon, 00:51:05.49\00:51:07.06 and now he is a great example of a merciful master. 00:51:07.09\00:51:11.59 You could talk about Titus, you could talk about Romans, 00:51:11.62\00:51:14.98 there is so many places in the Bible 00:51:15.01\00:51:16.26 you can find types of Christ. 00:51:16.29\00:51:17.75 But I want to go to Stephen. 00:51:17.78\00:51:20.17 He was always one of our heroes in the Bible, 00:51:20.20\00:51:24.03 spirit filled man, one reason we picked 00:51:24.06\00:51:25.90 that name for son number three is because 00:51:25.93\00:51:30.58 we were inspired by the example in the Bible 00:51:30.61\00:51:32.46 of the spirit filled deacon who is out preaching 00:51:32.49\00:51:34.74 and he was willing to lay down his life. 00:51:34.77\00:51:37.65 And you look after three and a half years of ministry, 00:51:37.68\00:51:41.94 Jesus is brought before the Sanhedrin 00:51:41.97\00:51:45.53 where He tells them who He is. 00:51:45.56\00:51:48.28 They have a mockery of a trial, they condemn Him, 00:51:48.31\00:51:53.24 they take Him outside the city, they execute Jesus 00:51:53.27\00:51:57.86 while He praise for their forgiveness. 00:51:57.89\00:52:01.24 Stephen preaches, the church grows, 00:52:01.27\00:52:05.48 his enemies are threatened, they bring him to the Sanhedrin 00:52:05.51\00:52:09.22 three and a half years after Christ. 00:52:09.25\00:52:12.49 Well, you know, I don't even know if I told you, 00:52:12.52\00:52:14.27 do you mind if we pause and we backtrack just a little, 00:52:14.30\00:52:16.36 in the story of Esther, there is another three and a half years. 00:52:16.39\00:52:19.93 In the third year of the reign of Ahasuerus, 00:52:19.96\00:52:22.32 he has a feast lasting 180 days 00:52:22.35\00:52:24.52 and that's how the Book of Esther begins 00:52:24.55\00:52:26.29 after a three and a half year period. 00:52:26.32\00:52:29.56 After three and a half years Stephen is preaching. 00:52:29.59\00:52:34.99 Because of his preaching he is arrested, 00:52:35.02\00:52:39.01 he is brought to the Sanhedrin. 00:52:39.04\00:52:40.44 The same one who'd accuse Jesus, 00:52:40.47\00:52:43.36 he tells who Jesus is in one of the most incredible sermons 00:52:43.39\00:52:46.83 in the New Testament going through 00:52:46.86\00:52:48.45 the history of the Jewish nation. 00:52:48.48\00:52:50.38 He proves that Jesus is the Christ. 00:52:50.41\00:52:53.02 Looking at a lot of the same stories that I have been 00:52:53.05\00:52:54.84 talking to you about the same characters too, 00:52:54.87\00:52:56.82 showing they all represent Jesus. 00:52:56.85\00:53:00.31 And they are so outraged realizing that 00:53:00.34\00:53:02.30 they have crucified their Messiah. 00:53:02.33\00:53:06.90 I thought along the away this series on Jesus 00:53:06.93\00:53:09.49 would be good for Jews, 00:53:09.52\00:53:10.56 I hope they won't be offended by it, 00:53:10.59\00:53:11.75 I'm half Jewish, because I don't know 00:53:11.78\00:53:14.11 anyone could read about all these characters in the Bible, 00:53:14.14\00:53:17.05 all these Jewish heroes that are types of Christ. 00:53:17.08\00:53:20.49 And then look in the New Testament and say, 00:53:20.52\00:53:22.41 no that has nothing to do with Jesus. 00:53:22.44\00:53:24.81 I don't know how they can get pass that. 00:53:24.84\00:53:28.36 And so when the religious leaders heard 00:53:28.39\00:53:30.09 Stephen testimony, they grip their teeth, 00:53:30.12\00:53:33.93 they plug their ears, they take him out of the city. 00:53:33.96\00:53:38.51 He is falsely condemned. 00:53:38.54\00:53:40.75 They don't even wait for the Romans to get involved, 00:53:40.78\00:53:43.57 they stone him to death, they lay down their garments, 00:53:43.60\00:53:47.96 there were garments at the foot of the cross, 00:53:47.99\00:53:49.97 there are garments at the feet of Saul. 00:53:50.00\00:53:52.63 They lay down their garments at the feet of Saul 00:53:52.66\00:53:54.47 who later becomes Paul. 00:53:54.50\00:53:55.75 Boy, wasn't that interesting? 00:53:55.78\00:53:57.44 And he asks for the forgiveness of the ones 00:53:57.47\00:54:00.54 who are executing him, just like Jesus? 00:54:00.57\00:54:04.32 Then he's carried off by friends and buried. 00:54:04.35\00:54:08.09 You can see types of Christ not only before Christ, 00:54:08.12\00:54:10.20 you can even see types of Christ after Christ 00:54:10.23\00:54:11.93 which is
