looking through a kaleidoscope

Well the Old Testament presents
a kaleidoscope of Jesus Christ.

looking at Elijah and Elisha

Well, for one
thing, there are about

20 chapters in the Bible

Elijah and Elisha.

It's all talking about the
life miracles and adventures

of this incredible
prophetic tag team.

how they illustrate,
how they worked together.

Tag teams probably

Elijah was the senior,
the one who came first.

Elisha was
trained as his apprentice

but he carried on
the work of Elijah

doubled it in some respects.

Elijah and
Elisha and even Jesus.

They all three had a ministry

Jesus and Mary Magdalene

had something going on
that's totally a fable.

Their ministry was totally to
reach and to save God's people.

there are number comparisons.

Now Christ made some,

the beginning of Jesus' ministry

that were a tag team there

between the life of Elijah

of Elijah's in the last days.

Speaking of Melchizedek,

just sort of
comes and disappears.

Jesus has no beginning or end.

He is the Alpha and the Omega.

And so that's one way
were Elijah is like that.

Elijah was fearless when it came

to talking with
the common people,

priests or kings.

First time Elijah appears,

and here we're
sort of meeting Elijah,

he walks into the presence
of King Ahab and he says,

"Thus says the Lord with an alt

there's going to be
neither dew nor rain
00:08:25.37\00:08:27.21
according to my
word for these years."

Somehow he gets right
through the security forces

and the guard around the king.
00:08:32.15\00:08:33.34
He makes his pronouncement

then he goes back the other way.

And that was really something
00:08:38.08\00:08:39.62
because these
ancient kings you know,

you could assassinate a
king if you get close enough.

They didn't
have rifles back then

and if you have a
gift to bring to the king

you bring your
gift to the couriers.

You'd stop you know,
50 paces from the king

than they did examine your gift

and then they
show it to the king.

But you couldn't get,

you tried to
approach too close to king

and the bodyguards will get you.

So the fact that Elijah
got through all of that,

he makes his declaration

and he somehow while
they are all in shock,

slips out again and
they can't find him.

And they searched the
whole country looking for him.

After Jesus ascended to heaven

also they had
problems finding Him.

And it says that from the
time of this declaration now

there follows three
and a half years of famine

where God miraculously
provides for Elijah.

Elijah now goes and he stays

with the gentile
woman during this time,

a widow and he says,

years did Jesus minister?

Three and a half years.

Okay, don't forget that,
another type of Christ there.

He goes, at first he's
fed by ravens at the brook

and then he-- God says to go
stay with this gentile woman.

What does woman
represent? A church.

Did Christ begin a new ministry

after His life
to take the message

beyond the Jews to the Gentiles?

Matter of fact by the
end of the first century

there were more Gentiles

A transition
happened in history.

the children's table.

faith, He healed her daughter.

That was also an
analogy about Christ

break this insulation

around the Jewish nation

and take the gospel
beyond just the Jews.

Whoever believes in Christ

When he first meets

A miracle of
multiplication of bread

confront the false prophets

And did they then
put His name on a poster?

Jezebel was looking
through the land for Him,

His life was
threatened because of it.

When He gathered everybody
together on Mount Carmel

for that great big showdown
00:13:57.07\00:13:59.49
he said, "Come near unto me."

So the people
came near unto Him.

There was a revival
after He called everybody

in the kingdom to
come near unto Him.

Does Jesus say, come unto me

and you will find
rest for your souls?

With Elijah and
Elisha this is great victory,

victory on the mountain,

showdown there on Mount Carmel

about the true God
and a counterfeit god.

You know when Christ came,

had the religious
leaders substituted the truth

with a counterfeit gospel.

He constantly
had to say, you say

but God says you say but I say.

And they just--
they completely eclipsed

the truth with
man-made laws and traditions.

And Jesus had to
pull all that aside

and they hated Him for it.

But there was a big
showdown because of that.

Elijah had a
showdown on Mount Carmel,

Christ had a

it was to go to his posterity,

hands between the tribes.

with the leprosy of Naaman

because of his greed.
Judas ends up hanging himself.

where there's a parallel

between Elisha and Jesus.

God gives him the spirit

whole army struck blind.

So Elisha finds the lead horse

and he starts to walk towards
the capital of Israel, Samaria.

And he's
leading this enemy army.

And he leads them,
they are all blinded,

they don't know
where they are going.

And he leads this
whole army inside the city.

There are
confused they are blinded

or who knows what happened.

Well, Elisha captured
whole army by himself.

And then after he captures them

instead of killing them

the king of Israel
says, "Shall we fire now?

Give the word ready and fire,

completely wipe them out."

And Elisha says, "No,
you've already captured them."

when Elijah resurrected
that Kananite woman son,

she was a widow?

And then it says, "He
presented her to him."

Jesus after He raises
the young men He says,

"Young man I said you arise.

You know, one of the reasons

Jesus as the Messiah

is by the multitude of miracles.

I mean, Elisha did twice
as many miracles as Elijah.

And Jesus has done even
more miracles than Elisha.

Will the Messiah do
more miracles than this?

So Christ has been told that--

Finally, dying encouragement.

tells him you can have victory.

window and fire the arrow,

victory, strike the ground.

ground three times,

he should have struck more.

It says, if you have more
faith you have more victory.

Isn't that what Christ said?

If we have more faith,
more enthusiasm, more zeal

And then finally,
even after Elisha dies,

he dies and they bury
him, great prophet of God.

he goes to heaven
in a fiery chariot,

Elisha gets a double
portion of Elijah's spirit

everyone else gets old and dies.

ministry and miracles.

have a double portion
