It's been 2,000 years since the glorious light of the Cross 00:00:09.54\00:00:12.62 illuminated the world veiled and darkness and confusion 00:00:12.65\00:00:15.50 about the character of God. 00:00:15.53\00:00:17.45 And still today the greatest need of mankind 00:00:17.48\00:00:19.86 as a revelation of God's love 00:00:19.89\00:00:21.75 has revealed in the life of Christ. 00:00:21.78\00:00:23.99 Amazing Facts presents the Everlasting Gospel 00:00:24.02\00:00:27.19 with Pastor Doug Batchelor coming to you each week 00:00:27.22\00:00:29.94 from Sacramento Central Church in sunny California. 00:00:29.97\00:00:33.05 Discover hidden treasures and God's word today. 00:00:33.08\00:00:36.16 If you are visiting here at Central Church 00:00:38.38\00:00:40.46 you haven't been here lately in the last few weeks 00:00:40.49\00:00:44.67 with the few exceptions while I've been gone 00:00:44.70\00:00:46.28 I've been doing a series about Christ in all the Bible 00:00:46.31\00:00:50.77 or Jesus throughout the Bible. 00:00:50.80\00:00:54.18 And today we'll represent 00:00:54.21\00:00:56.27 the fourth installment in this series. 00:00:56.44\00:00:59.17 I don't know how long the series will last 00:00:59.20\00:01:00.62 but it could go on a long time 00:01:00.65\00:01:02.84 'cause there's a lot of information. 00:01:02.87\00:01:04.36 So I'm sure I'll start before I cover everything. 00:01:04.39\00:01:07.03 But it's just one of my favorite studies 00:01:07.06\00:01:09.44 as looking at the examples of Jesus 00:01:09.47\00:01:11.90 you see everywhere in the Bible. 00:01:11.93\00:01:14.43 You know, Christ is called the Word, 00:01:14.46\00:01:18.66 the Bible is called the Word, 00:01:18.69\00:01:20.47 Christ is called the bread of life, 00:01:20.50\00:01:22.11 the Bible has called the bread of life. 00:01:22.14\00:01:24.18 Christ is called the rock, the Bible is called the rock. 00:01:24.21\00:01:28.26 Christ is called good and wonderful, 00:01:28.29\00:01:30.27 the Word is called good and wonderful. 00:01:30.30\00:01:32.34 As you go through the different definition 00:01:32.37\00:01:34.74 and words used to describe the Bible in the Bible 00:01:34.77\00:01:38.33 you find there are almost always also used to describe Jesus. 00:01:38.36\00:01:42.65 So it shouldn't surprise you that all through the Bible 00:01:42.68\00:01:45.06 you find Jesus. 00:01:45.09\00:01:47.40 Now in previous studies we have talked about 00:01:47.43\00:01:53.08 how Moses is a type of Christ as the great law giver. 00:01:53.11\00:01:58.55 Joseph shows the forgiveness of Jesus. 00:01:58.58\00:02:02.17 We looked at the life of Joseph. 00:02:02.20\00:02:04.74 David the king shows the faith and the majesty of Jesus. 00:02:04.77\00:02:10.11 Today we're going to look at the Book of Job 00:02:10.14\00:02:13.71 and we'll understand something about the sufferings of Christ. 00:02:13.74\00:02:17.17 We're really going to be on holy ground today. 00:02:17.20\00:02:21.54 Now I don't know if you've ever heard about the classic 00:02:21.57\00:02:24.48 called "Paradise Lost" written by John Milton. 00:02:24.51\00:02:28.64 Considered by some to be the greatest of-- 00:02:28.67\00:02:31.55 one of the greatest English authors and poets, a genius. 00:02:31.58\00:02:38.01 And in this epic poem I just wonder 00:02:38.04\00:02:41.72 is there anyone here that has read all of Paradise Lost. 00:02:41.75\00:02:46.86 Were you asked to do it in school? 00:02:46.89\00:02:49.97 Not too many people do it on their own. 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.33 It's usually required reading because when I pick it up 00:02:52.36\00:02:54.99 and I read it-- you can read it online for free by the way. 00:02:55.02\00:02:58.05 And if you want to have your mouth fall open take a page. 00:02:58.08\00:03:02.89 Even the first page of Milton's, Paradise Lost 00:03:02.92\00:03:05.45 and you read and the thoughts are so deep 00:03:05.48\00:03:06.72 and so profound. 00:03:06.75\00:03:07.78 It's written in very deep English. 00:03:07.81\00:03:14.68 He spoke Latin, and he German fluently, 00:03:14.71\00:03:17.57 and he spoke English 00:03:17.60\00:03:18.63 and parts of several other languages, brilliant guy. 00:03:18.66\00:03:21.15 The poem is 186 pages, 00:03:21.18\00:03:25.81 thousands of lines in the poem, it is an epic poem. 00:03:25.84\00:03:32.07 When you read the Book of Job you are reading something 00:03:32.10\00:03:35.25 that surpasses Milton's, Paradise Lost. 00:03:35.28\00:03:39.97 Job is probably some of the greatest of not-- 00:03:40.00\00:03:43.24 one of the greatest books of poetry in the Bible. 00:03:43.27\00:03:46.19 For one thing little history on the Book of Job, 00:03:46.22\00:03:52.00 it's probably the oldest book in the Bible. 00:03:52.03\00:03:56.98 Now how do we know that? 00:03:57.01\00:03:58.55 Probably written by Moses 00:03:58.58\00:04:00.36 while he was in the wilderness of Median. 00:04:00.39\00:04:03.05 In the Book of Job for one thing 00:04:03.08\00:04:04.68 the characters in the Book of Job is telling you, 00:04:04.71\00:04:07.87 Job lives over 200 years, 00:04:07.90\00:04:09.76 God adds another 140 years through his life 00:04:09.79\00:04:12.51 after his great trial that he went to. 00:04:12.54\00:04:15.50 The only other time in history when you find 00:04:15.53\00:04:17.35 they were live in about that range the father of Abraham, 00:04:17.38\00:04:21.05 the people who lived around the tower of Babel 00:04:21.08\00:04:23.08 were living in that span of time. 00:04:23.11\00:04:25.32 Terah lived 205 years and his contemporaries. 00:04:25.35\00:04:29.78 In the Book of Job it talks a lot about speech and words, 00:04:29.81\00:04:34.52 it never makes any reference in those 42 chapters 00:04:34.55\00:04:37.58 to writing of any kind because that was back 00:04:37.61\00:04:41.90 before men needed to codify truth. 00:04:41.93\00:04:46.32 They lived so long and their minds were so profound 00:04:46.35\00:04:49.95 and their memories everything was passed on verbally 00:04:49.98\00:04:53.44 but people who had virtually photographic memories. 00:04:53.47\00:04:57.42 And Job lived during the time of the great, 00:04:57.45\00:05:00.23 the patriots who lived back shortly after the flood. 00:05:00.26\00:05:03.90 So it's one of the oldest books written by people 00:05:03.93\00:05:06.31 who knew Noah if you can imagine that 00:05:06.34\00:05:11.20 incredibly profound in its words. 00:05:11.23\00:05:14.72 It mirrors the teachings of Jesus in many ways. 00:05:14.75\00:05:19.11 All through the Book of Job you can find 00:05:19.14\00:05:21.40 allegories and references to Jesus. 00:05:21.43\00:05:24.48 Not only the Book of Job but the whole Old Testament 00:05:24.51\00:05:27.88 really mirrors the life of Christ. 00:05:27.91\00:05:30.21 Its different facets of the life of Jesus 00:05:30.24\00:05:32.88 like a diamond you turn it to the light 00:05:32.91\00:05:34.84 you see different facets and cuts 00:05:34.87\00:05:36.61 in the diamond glimmering. 00:05:36.64\00:05:38.35 As you look through the Old Testament 00:05:38.38\00:05:39.89 you see Jesus everywhere 00:05:39.92\00:05:41.41 and the Book of Job is no exception. 00:05:41.44\00:05:44.05 Now I don't have time in this one presentation 00:05:44.08\00:05:47.89 to cover the 42 chapters in this poem. 00:05:47.92\00:05:52.21 But we're going to sort of fly over 00:05:52.24\00:05:53.62 and look at some high points that deal specifically 00:05:53.65\00:05:56.09 where the life principally the sufferings of Christ. 00:05:56.12\00:05:59.57 Because the Book of Job like the gospels 00:05:59.60\00:06:02.42 in the Book of Acts it's divided up 00:06:02.45\00:06:03.95 into four debates and a summary. 00:06:03.98\00:06:09.05 The gospels are divided up into Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, 00:06:09.08\00:06:11.95 and then the history in the Book of Acts. 00:06:11.98\00:06:13.49 So even the Book of Job is divided 00:06:13.52\00:06:15.74 like the history of Jesus very much. 00:06:15.77\00:06:18.68 And you are gonna see I think a lot of parallels here 00:06:18.71\00:06:21.03 and so just wanted to give a background a little bit on this. 00:06:21.06\00:06:25.38 Job is not a fictitious character. 00:06:25.41\00:06:27.34 Some people when they reads about the lifespan of Job 00:06:27.37\00:06:30.63 and the battle between good and evil transpires they say 00:06:30.66\00:06:32.92 oh, this is just it's an allegory. 00:06:33.09\00:06:35.37 Well, if you believe the Bible Ezekiel says 00:06:35.40\00:06:38.83 the Job was a real character. 00:06:38.86\00:06:40.35 Ezekiel 14:14 "Though these three men, 00:06:40.38\00:06:45.08 Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in the land, 00:06:45.11\00:06:47.45 they will deliver but their own souls 00:06:47.48\00:06:49.55 by their righteousness, says the Lord." 00:06:49.58\00:06:51.72 Ezekiel lumps Job in there with Noah and Daniel. 00:06:51.75\00:06:55.25 So if you believe they are real 00:06:55.28\00:06:56.51 you need to believe Job was a real person. 00:06:56.54\00:06:58.45 James 5:11 he says 00:06:58.48\00:07:01.56 "Behold, we count them happy which endure. 00:07:01.59\00:07:05.13 And you heard of the patience of Job, 00:07:05.16\00:07:07.49 and have seen the end of the Lord, 00:07:07.52\00:07:09.07 that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy." 00:07:09.10\00:07:12.07 New and Old Testament referred to Job as a real character 00:07:12.10\00:07:16.66 and probably for one thing the reason 00:07:16.69\00:07:20.10 that I believe that Job was real is because his life models 00:07:20.13\00:07:24.53 and reflects the life of Jesus so much principally 00:07:24.56\00:07:27.76 the sufferings of Christ and the sacrifice that Jesus made. 00:07:27.79\00:07:31.21 Even in the sense that like Melchizedek 00:07:31.24\00:07:34.34 you don't know where he comes from 00:07:34.37\00:07:36.06 Job suddenly appears out of history 00:07:36.09\00:07:37.94 and then you never read about the ancestors 00:07:37.97\00:07:39.56 and then he disappears without beginning or end 00:07:39.59\00:07:42.92 like Jesus from Alpha to Omega no beginning, no end. 00:07:42.95\00:07:47.30 He is eternal, so even in that sense Job is a type of Christ. 00:07:47.33\00:07:50.73 One very easy thing to discern how Job is like Jesus 00:07:50.76\00:07:54.50 is in the first chapter the first line 00:07:54.53\00:07:58.84 There was, Job was perfect in upright it says 00:07:58.87\00:08:02.11 "There was a man in the land of Uz, 00:08:02.14\00:08:04.40 whose name was Job, 00:08:04.43\00:08:06.47 and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God, 00:08:06.50\00:08:10.47 and he hated evil." 00:08:10.50\00:08:12.39 In the very beginning the Bible extols 00:08:12.42\00:08:15.76 almost the sinlessness of Job. 00:08:15.79\00:08:17.98 Now I'm not saying Job was sinless 00:08:18.01\00:08:19.31 'cause he was man and the Bible says all have sinned. 00:08:19.34\00:08:22.65 But he was a righteous man and a godly man. 00:08:22.68\00:08:25.89 Christ was sinless. 00:08:25.92\00:08:27.87 1 Peter 2:22, that's easy to remember 1 Peter 2:22. 00:08:27.90\00:08:33.20 It says "Christ who committed no sin, 00:08:33.23\00:08:36.82 no was deceit found in his mouth." 00:08:36.85\00:08:39.23 Again in the Book of Job 1:22 very must like 1 Peter. 00:08:39.26\00:08:44.76 "In all this Job did not sin, nor charged God would wrong." 00:08:44.79\00:08:50.51 Job 23:11, 12 Jobs says of himself. 00:08:50.54\00:08:55.13 "My foot has held fast to His steps, 00:08:55.16\00:08:57.76 I have kept His way and not turned aside. 00:08:57.79\00:09:00.49 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips." 00:09:00.52\00:09:03.22 By the way Jesus said, I have kept my Father's commandments. 00:09:03.25\00:09:06.45 So He said something almost identical to Job there. 00:09:06.48\00:09:09.47 Listen still in Job 23:12 00:09:09.50\00:09:12.29 "I have treasured the words of His mouth 00:09:12.32\00:09:14.61 more than my necessary food." 00:09:14.64\00:09:18.67 Doesn't Jesus say "Man will not live by bread alone, 00:09:18.70\00:09:22.15 but by every word that proceeds 00:09:22.18\00:09:23.76 from the mouth of God." 00:09:23.79\00:09:25.68 You can hear echoes. 00:09:25.71\00:09:26.74 Now you realize that with the type 00:09:26.77\00:09:29.35 and with an anti-type that the anti-type 00:09:29.38\00:09:34.03 is usually it's a shadow it's not an exact replica 00:09:34.06\00:09:37.40 but there is a great similarities there. 00:09:37.43\00:09:40.05 And this is where as you read through the Book of Job 00:09:40.08\00:09:42.76 you keep seeing the shadows 00:09:42.79\00:09:45.48 in the types of Christ that are there. 00:09:45.51\00:09:48.93 Job was called a servant of God. 00:09:48.96\00:09:51.25 Jesus is identified as a servant. 00:09:51.28\00:09:53.39 Job 2:3 "The Lord said to Satan, 00:09:53.42\00:09:55.99 'Have you considered My servant Job, 00:09:56.02\00:09:58.60 there is none like him on the earth, 00:09:58.63\00:10:00.00 a blameless and upright man.'" 00:10:00.03\00:10:02.68 Speaking of Christ Isaiah prophecies. 00:10:02.71\00:10:05.76 Isaiah 42:1 "Behold! 00:10:05.79\00:10:08.24 My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One 00:10:08.27\00:10:10.77 in whom My soul delights! 00:10:10.80\00:10:12.77 I have put My Spirit upon Him, 00:10:12.80\00:10:14.78 He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles." 00:10:14.81\00:10:19.36 Matthew 20:28 Jesus said, 00:10:19.39\00:10:22.32 "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, 00:10:22.35\00:10:26.13 but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." 00:10:26.16\00:10:28.87 Christ was the servant, Job was a servant of God. 00:10:28.90\00:10:32.72 And even in the very life of Job 00:10:32.75\00:10:36.39 he has a lot of God like characteristics. 00:10:36.42\00:10:39.97 For instance, if you read in Job 1:3 00:10:40.00\00:10:44.19 "Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, 00:10:44.22\00:10:47.41 three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, 00:10:47.44\00:10:50.37 five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, 00:10:50.40\00:10:53.93 so this man was the greatest of all the people of the East." 00:10:53.96\00:10:59.06 He was a king by the standards of the day. 00:10:59.09\00:11:02.82 Christ is our king, He was very wealthy, 00:11:02.85\00:11:05.25 Christ owns the entire universe. 00:11:05.28\00:11:08.02 It speaks of Him as the greatest of the people of the east. 00:11:08.05\00:11:10.95 Jesus is gonna come from what direction? 00:11:10.98\00:11:13.65 And if you know the prophecies of Daniel to make way 00:11:13.68\00:11:16.18 or Revelation make way for the kings of the east 00:11:16.21\00:11:18.73 it speaks about the little cloud arising up out of the east. 00:11:18.76\00:11:21.82 Christ has spoken of that way as that light 00:11:21.85\00:11:24.45 that will arise with healing and his wings. 00:11:24.48\00:11:27.59 Job 29:7-17, "When I went out to the gate of the city, 00:11:27.62\00:11:33.07 when I took my seat in the open square, 00:11:33.10\00:11:35.48 the young men saw me and hid," 00:11:35.51\00:11:37.89 speaks about just the awesomeness of Job 00:11:37.92\00:11:40.77 and the God like qualities. 00:11:40.80\00:11:43.04 "The aged arose and stood, the princes refrained 00:11:43.07\00:11:46.69 from talking, and they put their hand on their mouth," 00:11:46.72\00:11:49.39 It's such a tremendous respect for Him. 00:11:49.42\00:11:51.42 "The voice of nobles was hushed, 00:11:51.45\00:11:53.12 and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. 00:11:53.15\00:11:55.80 When the ear heard, then it blessed me, 00:11:55.83\00:11:57.51 and the eye saw, then it approved me, 00:11:57.96\00:12:00.10 because I delivered the poor who cried out, 00:12:00.13\00:12:02.59 the fatherless and the one who had no helper." 00:12:02.62\00:12:05.75 This is what Jesus did. 00:12:05.78\00:12:07.03 "The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, 00:12:07.06\00:12:09.81 and I caused the widow's heart to sing. 00:12:09.84\00:12:12.78 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me." 00:12:12.81\00:12:15.06 Christ wore a robe of righteousness. 00:12:15.09\00:12:16.90 "My justice was like a robe and a turban." 00:12:16.93\00:12:19.52 The justice of Christ. 00:12:19.55\00:12:21.04 "I was eyes to the blind, and I was feet to the lame. 00:12:21.07\00:12:23.94 I was a father to the poor, and I searched out the case 00:12:23.97\00:12:27.12 that I did not know." 00:12:27.15\00:12:29.19 He was a judge. 00:12:29.22\00:12:31.25 "I broke the fangs of the wicked." 00:12:31.28\00:12:33.51 It's like a serpent. 00:12:33.54\00:12:35.38 "And plucked the victim from his teeth." 00:12:35.41\00:12:37.45 Like David did the lamb from the lion and the bear. 00:12:37.48\00:12:40.29 And so all these qualities and Job is describing himself 00:12:40.32\00:12:43.27 before his trial and his sufferings they all mirror. 00:12:43.30\00:12:47.97 Don't they sound like Jesus? 00:12:48.00\00:12:49.64 Couldn't you have inserted Jesus name 00:12:49.67\00:12:51.77 and that sounds like His character. 00:12:51.80\00:12:54.03 Now when you get to the first chapter of Job 00:12:54.06\00:12:56.15 you notice the great controversy is played out 00:12:56.18\00:12:58.55 in the entire Book of Job. 00:12:58.58\00:13:00.47 'Cause in the beginning of the Book of Job 00:13:00.50\00:13:02.64 it talks about a day when the sons of God 00:13:02.67\00:13:04.85 came to present themselves in some heavenly meeting 00:13:04.88\00:13:07.31 before the Lord and Satan comes also 00:13:07.34\00:13:11.04 and he comes to represent this world. 00:13:11.07\00:13:14.19 And God says to Lucifer Satan 00:13:14.22\00:13:17.05 have you considered My servant Job 00:13:17.08\00:13:18.83 there is none like him in the earth? 00:13:18.86\00:13:20.47 And Satan it's all the only reason he serves you 00:13:20.50\00:13:22.74 as you hedge him and protected and blessed him. 00:13:22.77\00:13:25.77 That's a very important truth. 00:13:25.80\00:13:27.86 Can God hedge and protect and bless His people? 00:13:27.89\00:13:30.83 Matter of fact, if it wasn't for the hedge of angels 00:13:30.86\00:13:32.84 the God has around each one of you 00:13:32.87\00:13:34.88 we'd perish very quickly from the devil. 00:13:34.91\00:13:37.36 It's all because of the hedge of the Lord that protects us, 00:13:37.39\00:13:41.45 His guardian angels that were preserved and we are blessed. 00:13:41.48\00:13:45.63 And so the devil then accuses Job before the Lord. 00:13:45.66\00:13:49.79 What is the devil call, the accuser of the brethren? 00:13:49.82\00:13:53.29 And then God does something He withdraws His protection 00:13:53.32\00:13:57.97 from the Job in to order to save others. 00:13:58.00\00:14:04.85 Job goes through his trials to save others. 00:14:04.88\00:14:08.19 You might say, save who? 00:14:08.22\00:14:09.25 What he is saying, Job is a sacrifice for sin? No. 00:14:09.28\00:14:11.97 I'm saying God allowed Job to go through his sufferings. 00:14:12.00\00:14:16.16 And I'm assuming you've all read some of the book as I preach. 00:14:16.19\00:14:20.54 God allows Job to go through his suffering 00:14:20.57\00:14:22.13 because Job them becomes a testimony 00:14:22.16\00:14:25.08 to all these hundreds of generations after 00:14:25.11\00:14:28.32 of the faithfulness of the Lord and the love of the God 00:14:28.35\00:14:30.79 and how you can survive trials. 00:14:30.82\00:14:33.17 Now in the message today I'm not just trying 00:14:33.20\00:14:35.61 to peak your interest by showing you-- 00:14:35.64\00:14:36.90 aren't these interesting bits of trivia of how Job 00:14:36.93\00:14:41.30 and Jesus have these similarities. 00:14:41.33\00:14:42.75 Isn't that interesting? 00:14:42.78\00:14:44.12 Now I tell you what, I really want to say, 00:14:44.15\00:14:45.39 that's there and that should inspire you 00:14:45.42\00:14:48.45 with the inspiration of the Bible. 00:14:48.48\00:14:52.00 But in the examples of Job and Jesus 00:14:52.03\00:14:54.49 and their sufferings they are not the only ones that suffer. 00:14:54.52\00:14:59.76 How many of you have gone through trials and you suffered. 00:14:59.79\00:15:03.78 In the Book of Job God pulls aside the veil 00:15:03.81\00:15:06.11 and you can see the devils in the background 00:15:06.14\00:15:09.06 going around like a roaring lion seeking whom he might devour. 00:15:09.09\00:15:11.88 The whole great controversy between good and evil 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.42 is played out in the Book of Job. 00:15:14.45\00:15:16.50 Just like God is in heaven and the devil is there accusing 00:15:16.53\00:15:19.64 and God is defending and then they are looking at 00:15:19.67\00:15:21.60 what happening with God servant on earth 00:15:21.63\00:15:25.19 and the battle between Christ and Lucifer 00:15:25.22\00:15:26.82 is been fought in the life of Job, and the friends of Job. 00:15:26.85\00:15:30.56 The great controversy is also been fought 00:15:30.59\00:15:32.53 in your life, in your heart. 00:15:32.56\00:15:35.42 When you get the victory because of your trust 00:15:35.45\00:15:37.16 and your faithfulness God says have you considered 00:15:37.19\00:15:39.89 My servant Doug or whoever you put your name in there. 00:15:39.92\00:15:43.70 When we fall the devil points his finger and accuses, 00:15:43.73\00:15:46.87 they don't really love you. 00:15:46.90\00:15:48.99 They will curse your face 00:15:49.02\00:15:50.05 as soon as they don't get their way. 00:15:50.08\00:15:51.60 You take away their money, you take away their health, 00:15:51.63\00:15:53.53 they will shake their fist at you. 00:15:53.56\00:15:55.99 And so the experience of Job is acted out millions of times 00:15:56.02\00:16:00.06 in the lives of his professed servants except 00:16:00.09\00:16:03.11 we want to have the victory that Job had. Amen. 00:16:03.14\00:16:06.11 So it's an illustration of the great controversy. 00:16:06.14\00:16:09.37 In the same way that the devil basically concentrated 00:16:09.40\00:16:14.24 all of the forces of hell to get Job, 00:16:14.27\00:16:18.80 to give up his faith, 'cause basically the devil 00:16:18.83\00:16:22.00 was challenged by God or should say the devil challenged God 00:16:22.03\00:16:25.52 and God took His challenge. 00:16:25.55\00:16:26.61 Says, you remove your protection, 00:16:26.64\00:16:28.63 take away his wealth and then during round two, 00:16:28.66\00:16:30.57 he says take away his health, so he losses wealth and his health. 00:16:30.60\00:16:34.76 Says he'll curse you to your face. 00:16:34.79\00:16:36.97 Then you see that in the story of Job the physical sufferings 00:16:37.00\00:16:42.26 that Job experiences are very much like those of Jesus. 00:16:42.29\00:16:47.05 Job 2:7, 8 "So Satan goes out from the presence of the Lord." 00:16:47.08\00:16:52.09 And this is during round two. 00:16:52.12\00:16:53.47 "And he strikes" First he takes all of his money, 00:16:53.69\00:16:56.47 second "He struck Job with painful boils." 00:16:56.50\00:17:02.52 Not just boils, painful boils. 00:17:02.55\00:17:05.74 "From the sole of his foot." You ever have a blister. 00:17:05.77\00:17:10.21 "To the crown of his head." I want to pause here. 00:17:10.24\00:17:14.44 Quick story probably told you before, 00:17:14.47\00:17:16.87 there is nothing new under the sun. 00:17:16.90\00:17:18.50 I went to summer camp down in the Florida Keys 00:17:18.53\00:17:21.87 my dad used to send us off to summer camp. 00:17:21.90\00:17:25.11 And I don't know what happened I got an infection. 00:17:25.14\00:17:27.26 Doctor says, I got bite by a spider. 00:17:27.29\00:17:28.80 I don't know what happened but the back of my leg 00:17:28.83\00:17:32.11 is actually this leg swell up with the boil 00:17:32.14\00:17:36.14 that was so bad one boil. 00:17:36.17\00:17:38.33 I just laid there in my bed and I rolled back and forth 00:17:38.36\00:17:40.74 and all I could repeat over and over again is the pain, 00:17:40.77\00:17:42.92 the pain, the pain. 00:17:42.95\00:17:44.54 Maybe you've seen somebody that's dying 00:17:44.57\00:17:47.00 from some form of painful cancers, 00:17:47.03\00:17:49.25 some may go quietly some it's not so quiet. 00:17:49.28\00:17:53.03 And to see a person riving in pain Job was covered 00:17:53.06\00:17:55.77 with painful boils loathsome, they smell, he is oozing. 00:17:55.80\00:18:02.57 It's--flies are buzzing around them. 00:18:02.60\00:18:05.16 He then goes and he sits there-- 00:18:05.19\00:18:06.52 I know it's a gross picture 00:18:06.55\00:18:07.58 but it pains the sufferings of Christ, talks about sin. 00:18:07.61\00:18:11.11 He then sits down in the city of dump 00:18:11.14\00:18:12.69 where all the broken pottery is 00:18:12.72\00:18:15.72 and he takes a broken piece of pottery to scrape himself, 00:18:15.75\00:18:19.41 surrounded by flies that are in his eyes 00:18:19.44\00:18:22.41 and his wounds and it's just an awful picture. 00:18:22.44\00:18:25.46 Now I know that's pretty graphic 00:18:25.49\00:18:26.76 but the Bible is pretty graphic here too. 00:18:26.79\00:18:29.09 And the by the way, I don't want to rush pass the point. 00:18:29.12\00:18:32.88 He sits down in the dump. 00:18:32.91\00:18:33.98 Are the dumps in the city or outside? 00:18:34.01\00:18:36.52 Typically outside. 00:18:36.55\00:18:37.58 Where did Christ suffer for us? 00:18:37.61\00:18:39.91 Hebrews 13:12 "Therefore Jesus also, 00:18:39.94\00:18:42.86 that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, 00:18:42.89\00:18:45.45 suffered outside the gate." 00:18:45.48\00:18:47.59 They took Him out where the dumps were so to speak. 00:18:47.62\00:18:52.03 And then it describes in the next chapters, 00:18:52.06\00:18:55.06 37 chapters it follow the sufferings of Job. 00:18:55.09\00:19:00.51 And there is a lot of places where 00:19:00.54\00:19:01.90 it nears the sufferings of Christ. 00:19:01.93\00:19:05.62 For instance, he's forsaken by his friends. 00:19:05.65\00:19:09.71 His friends come from far 00:19:09.74\00:19:11.05 at first they are coming to support him. 00:19:11.08\00:19:14.44 But ultimately as the stories goes on they turn on him. 00:19:14.47\00:19:19.37 They say, what you're getting what you deserve. 00:19:19.40\00:19:22.29 Was Jesus forsaken by His friends? 00:19:22.32\00:19:25.29 Matthew 26:56 "But all this was done that the Scriptures 00:19:25.32\00:19:29.72 and the prophets might be fulfilled. 00:19:29.75\00:19:31.79 All the disciples forsook Him and fled." 00:19:31.82\00:19:34.92 Jobs says, Chapter 19 verse 14 00:19:34.95\00:19:38.32 "My relatives have failed, 00:19:38.35\00:19:40.72 my close friends have forgotten me." 00:19:40.75\00:19:42.86 By the way after Job suffering 00:19:42.89\00:19:45.35 and he is out there in the dump his wife comes along 00:19:45.38\00:19:47.66 and says why don't you just curse God and die. 00:19:47.69\00:19:50.45 All of his family dies except his wife 00:19:50.48\00:19:52.84 the devil saved her so she could come and say 00:19:52.87\00:19:54.39 why don't you just die. 00:19:54.42\00:19:56.57 Sometimes the devil will even use those closes to us 00:19:56.60\00:19:59.69 to discourage us. 00:19:59.72\00:20:00.75 It doesn't mean they are bad 00:20:00.78\00:20:01.81 but you know that even the devil use Peter on Jesus. 00:20:01.84\00:20:05.70 Peter came to Jesus one time and said 00:20:05.73\00:20:07.78 you don't really want to die and cross is not God's plan 00:20:07.81\00:20:10.13 for you and Jesus snapped around and said, 00:20:10.16\00:20:11.75 get, could be behind me by Satan. 00:20:11.78\00:20:13.78 So that the Peter, that doesn't mean Peter was the devil. 00:20:13.81\00:20:17.08 And it doesn't mean your spouse is the devil 00:20:17.11\00:20:18.70 but sometimes the devil will use those closes to us 00:20:18.73\00:20:22.36 to get us when we're already down. 00:20:22.39\00:20:24.87 Now I'm telling you that so you'll be patient 00:20:24.90\00:20:26.60 with your relatives will do this, I'm also telling you 00:20:26.63\00:20:28.66 so you don't be one of those people, right. 00:20:28.69\00:20:34.54 He is forsaken by his friends. 00:20:34.57\00:20:36.65 Mark 14:33 Jesus takes Peter, James, and John with Him, 00:20:36.68\00:20:43.44 In the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:20:43.47\00:20:45.20 Then He began to be troubled and deeply grieved. 00:20:45.23\00:20:47.76 He is anguished, He is weeping, 00:20:47.79\00:20:50.06 and praying, and sweating blood. 00:20:50.09\00:20:52.01 And He says the Peter, James, and John pray with me. 00:20:52.04\00:20:54.82 His three friends and what are they do? 00:20:54.85\00:20:57.19 They started snoring, they go to sleep. 00:20:57.22\00:21:00.11 They ultimately turn on Him and leave and then deny Him. 00:21:00.14\00:21:03.93 How many friends came to Job? Three friends. 00:21:03.96\00:21:07.45 Jesus had His principle three Peter, James, and John 00:21:07.48\00:21:10.22 He took with Him. 00:21:10.25\00:21:11.88 Jobs 6:27 "You would even cast lots for the orphans 00:21:11.91\00:21:16.44 and barter over your friend." 00:21:16.47\00:21:17.95 Well, by the way I need to tell you if I hear you turning 00:21:17.98\00:21:19.98 new Bibles I'm glad you're doing it, 00:21:20.01\00:21:21.45 I'm reading from the Hebrew translation 00:21:21.48\00:21:23.64 this is a transliteration you are probably 00:21:23.67\00:21:26.34 not gonna see this in King James and typical translations. 00:21:26.37\00:21:29.61 But in the Hebrew the word there it says, 00:21:29.64\00:21:31.53 you even cast lots over an orphans 00:21:31.56\00:21:34.52 and barter or trade away your friend. 00:21:34.55\00:21:38.28 Do they cast lots around Jesus? 00:21:38.31\00:21:41.20 Did Judah sell Him or barter Him for 30 pieces of silver? 00:21:41.23\00:21:45.34 In the original that's how it's worded in the Hebrew there. 00:21:45.37\00:21:50.05 His falsely accused of evil. 00:21:50.08\00:21:52.54 Job was the perfect and upright man 00:21:52.57\00:21:54.50 but what did they say about him. 00:21:54.53\00:21:56.11 Job 22:5 His friend said 00:21:56.14\00:21:58.91 "Is not your wickedness great, and your iniquity without end?" 00:21:58.94\00:22:02.82 well, that was opposite the testimony of God 00:22:02.85\00:22:06.57 where is Jesus falsely accused of evil? 00:22:06.60\00:22:10.49 Mathew 26:59 "Now the chief priests, and the elders, 00:22:10.52\00:22:15.06 and all the council sought false testimony against Him" 00:22:15.09\00:22:18.94 false testimony "to put Jesus to death, but found none. 00:22:18.97\00:22:23.60 Even though many false witnesses came forward, 00:22:23.63\00:22:25.76 they found none. 00:22:25.79\00:22:26.82 At last two false witnesses came forward and said, 00:22:26.85\00:22:29.63 'This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple 00:22:29.66\00:22:32.31 and to build it in three days.'" 00:22:32.34\00:22:34.22 And they said when He was hanging on the cross 00:22:34.25\00:22:35.90 the reason you are suffering is because of your wickedness. 00:22:35.93\00:22:37.65 God's abandoned you. 00:22:37.68\00:22:38.80 Job as he sat there in the dump 00:22:42.72\00:22:45.65 we don't know how long he suffered it may have been weeks. 00:22:45.68\00:22:48.84 It's hard to imagine going through that 00:22:48.87\00:22:50.96 for that period of time but as the people came 00:22:50.99\00:22:53.25 and went from the city He who is so highly respected 00:22:53.28\00:22:56.74 they stood up from Him when he walk by, 00:22:56.77\00:22:59.00 now they said, well, God's forsaken you 00:22:59.03\00:23:00.45 and they spit on him. 00:23:00.48\00:23:02.66 And maybe the kids went over and they hit Him with sticks 00:23:02.69\00:23:04.81 and they struck him. 00:23:04.84\00:23:06.67 Listen to what it says here. 00:23:06.70\00:23:07.88 He experienced striking and spitting, but he has made-- 00:23:07.91\00:23:11.92 oh, by the way Job 17:6 "He has made me a byword 00:23:11.95\00:23:15.99 of the people, I have become one in whose face men spit." 00:23:16.02\00:23:22.16 Job 30:10 similar passage. 00:23:22.19\00:23:24.93 "They abhor me, they keep far from me, 00:23:24.96\00:23:27.97 They do not hesitate to spit in My face." 00:23:28.00\00:23:30.89 You ever have anybody spit in your face? 00:23:30.92\00:23:33.38 That happen to me once, you know, I never forget it. 00:23:33.41\00:23:37.08 No not since I've been a preacher. 00:23:37.11\00:23:39.83 That was when I was a kid. 00:23:39.86\00:23:42.80 Now I got to tell you what happened, you will wonder. 00:23:42.83\00:23:47.22 You ever see the movie "The Hiding Place." 00:23:47.25\00:23:51.24 The actress Julie Harris her son Peter was a friend of mine. 00:23:51.27\00:23:56.85 I went over to play with him and I knocked on his door 00:23:56.88\00:23:58.87 in New York and they had one those mail slots. 00:23:58.90\00:24:01.91 And I said, Peter come on out and play. 00:24:01.94\00:24:03.76 And I don't know maybe he didn't want to play that day 00:24:03.79\00:24:05.29 and I kept knocking, come on out. 00:24:05.32\00:24:07.70 And he opened up the mail slot and I looked in 00:24:07.73\00:24:10.66 and he spit in my face. 00:24:10.69\00:24:15.70 See you don't forget something like that, do you? 00:24:15.73\00:24:19.33 And I'm sure they didn't forget it when it happened 00:24:19.36\00:24:24.43 to Job and Jesus either. 00:24:24.46\00:24:26.68 Psalms 22 a messianic prophecy about Jesus. 00:24:26.71\00:24:30.59 "They gape at Me with their mouths." 00:24:30.62\00:24:35.20 This is what they just said about Job. 00:24:35.23\00:24:36.57 They gape at me. 00:24:36.60\00:24:37.90 "They strike me reproachfully on the cheek." 00:24:37.93\00:24:40.72 Oh, by the way that's Job 16:10. 00:24:40.75\00:24:42.59 "They gape at me with their mouth, 00:24:42.62\00:24:43.85 they strike me reproachfully on the cheek. 00:24:43.88\00:24:46.95 Psalms 22 says to Jesus "They gape at Me with their mouths." 00:24:46.98\00:24:49.91 Matthew 26 "Then they spat in His face and beat Him, 00:24:49.94\00:24:53.80 they struck Him with the palms of their hands." 00:24:53.83\00:24:58.63 So Job and Jesus again the sufferings very similar. 00:24:58.66\00:25:03.35 He was apparently outwardly abandoned by God. 00:25:03.38\00:25:08.70 Job 13:24 "Why do You hide Your face, 00:25:08.73\00:25:11.95 and regard me as Your enemy?" 00:25:11.98\00:25:14.27 Job 30:20 "I cry out to You, but You do not hear me, 00:25:14.30\00:25:18.07 I stand up, but You regard me not." 00:25:18.10\00:25:21.33 What did Jesus say hanging on the cross? 00:25:21.36\00:25:23.88 Mark 15:34 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" 00:25:23.91\00:25:29.29 Have you ever felt abandoned by God? 00:25:29.32\00:25:32.07 Remember as we look at the sufferings of Christ and Job 00:25:32.10\00:25:35.12 Christians also suffer when you fall off Jesus. 00:25:35.15\00:25:37.81 We also experience persecution. 00:25:37.84\00:25:39.74 There will be dark days where you will be tested, 00:25:39.77\00:25:42.58 God will with draw that hedge 00:25:42.61\00:25:44.18 and you will wonder what have I done? 00:25:44.21\00:25:47.18 Why is this happening to me? 00:25:47.21\00:25:49.79 I've gone to visit people in the hospital. 00:25:49.82\00:25:51.33 I remember word for word that's what they said. 00:25:51.36\00:25:53.08 Doug, why is God doing this to me? 00:25:53.11\00:25:55.83 They feel like they are abandoned. 00:25:55.86\00:25:58.07 That doesn't mean Jesus doesn't love you, 00:25:58.10\00:26:00.20 He still loved Job. 00:26:00.23\00:26:02.53 The Father still loves His own son and they suffered. 00:26:02.56\00:26:07.19 John 19:16 It says the Christ was delivered to the council. 00:26:07.22\00:26:12.18 He was handed over to the mob. 00:26:12.21\00:26:15.11 Matthew 26:56, 57 "All the disciples forsook Him and fled. 00:26:15.14\00:26:20.69 And the mob laid hold of Him they led Him away." 00:26:20.72\00:26:23.60 Job said in 16:11, Job 16:11 00:26:23.63\00:26:27.02 "God has delivered me to the ungodly, 00:26:27.05\00:26:29.74 And turned me over to the hands of the wicked." 00:26:29.77\00:26:32.10 Was Christ turned over to the hands of the wicked? 00:26:32.13\00:26:35.14 This mob just demon possessed mob 00:26:35.17\00:26:38.98 good part of His suffering happened 00:26:39.01\00:26:40.19 before He ever got to the cross. 00:26:40.22\00:26:42.02 Jesus did not begin suffering 00:26:42.05\00:26:43.71 for you right there on the cross, 00:26:43.74\00:26:45.59 the suffering began when the mob got hold of Him. 00:26:45.62\00:26:49.06 And Job said why does he turn me over to the wicked? 00:26:49.09\00:26:54.02 Was Jesus physically disfigured? Yes. 00:26:54.05\00:26:59.83 Isaiah 52 this prophecy about Christ 00:26:59.86\00:27:02.58 Isaiah 52 and 53 is a messianic prophecy. 00:27:02.61\00:27:05.74 "Just as many were astonished at you, 00:27:05.77\00:27:08.74 so His visage" his form "was marred more than any man, 00:27:08.77\00:27:13.38 and His form more than the sons of men." 00:27:13.41\00:27:15.74 Christ was so mercilessly beaten that he was barely 00:27:15.77\00:27:20.94 recognizable being scourge and beaten, 00:27:20.97\00:27:23.51 the crown of thorns and the soldiers. 00:27:23.54\00:27:26.50 Job when his friends first came to mourn with him 00:27:26.53\00:27:31.14 when they saw him it says. 00:27:31.17\00:27:33.01 And this is Job 2:12 "They raised their eyes from afar, 00:27:33.04\00:27:36.68 and did not recognize him." 00:27:36.71\00:27:41.83 Yeah, I went to the hospital to visit a church member 00:27:41.86\00:27:43.56 I've known for years. 00:27:43.59\00:27:46.21 And he was suffering with shingles. 00:27:46.24\00:27:49.05 And I haven't seen him in several weeks. 00:27:49.08\00:27:51.95 And this was his final illness. 00:27:51.98\00:27:53.47 He was actually over 100 years of age. 00:27:53.50\00:27:56.55 But I had seen him recently at his home. 00:27:56.58\00:27:58.62 When I went to the hospital I saw this man shriveled up 00:27:58.65\00:28:01.39 in the bed in agony. 00:28:01.42\00:28:05.56 I went back out and I said I'm looking for so and so 00:28:05.59\00:28:07.90 and they say that's his room. 00:28:07.93\00:28:10.06 I went back in and I looked at him 00:28:10.09\00:28:11.66 and I didn't even recognize him. 00:28:11.69\00:28:15.51 And I thought the poor fellow and I remember holding 00:28:15.54\00:28:17.55 his hand as he was suffering 00:28:17.58\00:28:20.64 and he was saying the same thing 00:28:20.67\00:28:22.19 why won't the Lord let me die. 00:28:22.22\00:28:23.92 100 years old in terrible pain. And just a godly man. 00:28:23.95\00:28:30.65 And it doesn't mean God doesn't love us, 00:28:30.68\00:28:32.13 it means there is a devil out there that hates us. 00:28:32.16\00:28:35.04 And sometimes God allows us to suffer 00:28:35.07\00:28:37.17 and you read the book of First and Second Peter, 00:28:37.20\00:28:39.29 I should say books of First and Second Peter 00:28:39.32\00:28:42.15 he talks about why God allow suffering. 00:28:42.18\00:28:44.53 He is purifying us through these things. 00:28:44.56\00:28:47.48 But it doesn't mean He doesn't love us. 00:28:47.51\00:28:51.22 You know in the in the story of Job it talks about 00:28:51.25\00:28:54.98 baring the cross. 00:28:55.01\00:28:57.71 Job 31:36 at least this is the way I see it. 00:28:57.74\00:29:02.30 "Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, 00:29:02.33\00:29:05.19 and bind it on me like a crown." 00:29:05.22\00:29:06.94 He is talking about the sufferings 00:29:06.97\00:29:08.22 that he'll weary-- wear as a badge 00:29:08.25\00:29:10.77 as a crown on his shoulder. 00:29:10.80\00:29:13.40 Christ said, "He that does not take up his cross 00:29:13.43\00:29:15.84 and follow after Me is not worthy of Me." 00:29:15.87\00:29:19.41 Typically they carry the cross on their shoulder, right. 00:29:19.44\00:29:22.14 Matthew 10:38, I was just reading. 00:29:22.17\00:29:26.61 There is more I won't get it all, friends, 00:29:26.64\00:29:29.26 there is a lot here in these 42 chapters of Job 00:29:29.29\00:29:32.40 the parallels of Christ suffering. 00:29:32.43\00:29:35.73 He is pierced by iron. 00:29:35.76\00:29:38.36 Now that's an interesting statement 00:29:38.39\00:29:39.55 because iron was still according to the archeologist 00:29:39.58\00:29:42.92 relatively new back in the time of Job 00:29:42.95\00:29:44.92 very rare, matter of fact, they sort of credit 00:29:44.95\00:29:47.35 the Philistines with making iron more common and it's use. 00:29:47.38\00:29:50.91 The Romans were known as the iron kingdom 00:29:50.94\00:29:52.62 and they did use iron swords, and iron tools, 00:29:52.65\00:29:55.35 and iron mallets, and iron nails. 00:29:55.38\00:30:00.96 Then Jobs says in 20:24, 25 00:30:00.99\00:30:04.46 "He will flee from the iron weapon, 00:30:04.49\00:30:06.77 and the bow of steel shall strike him through. 00:30:06.80\00:30:09.91 It is drawn, it will come out of the body, yes, 00:30:09.94\00:30:13.09 the glittering sword comes out of his gall." 00:30:13.12\00:30:15.81 We even got the word gall there speaking 00:30:15.84\00:30:17.39 of what they gave Christ on the cross. 00:30:17.42\00:30:20.23 "Terrors are upon him." 00:30:20.26\00:30:21.76 Jesus side was pierced by an iron Roman spear tip. 00:30:21.79\00:30:27.18 Mark of course 15:25. 00:30:27.21\00:30:30.32 Now it was a third hour and they crucified Him. 00:30:30.35\00:30:33.63 His feet were also confined when they were crucified. 00:30:33.66\00:30:37.20 Job says this. 00:30:37.23\00:30:38.77 Job 13:27 "You put my feet in the stocks, 00:30:38.80\00:30:43.02 and watch closely all my paths. 00:30:43.05\00:30:45.26 You limit for the soles-- 00:30:45.29\00:30:47.06 you set a limit for the soles of my feet." 00:30:47.09\00:30:48.58 He couldn't move his feet neither could Jesus 00:30:48.61\00:30:51.87 when He was on the cross. 00:30:51.90\00:30:53.27 And this is prophecy Psalm 22:16 00:30:53.30\00:30:56.32 "For dogs have surrounded Me, The congregation of the wicked 00:30:56.35\00:30:59.50 has enclosed Me. 00:30:59.53\00:31:01.10 They pierced My hands and My feet." 00:31:01.13\00:31:04.87 Job is stripped of his clothing. 00:31:04.90\00:31:09.16 Matter of fact, after his suffering he tore his robes, 00:31:09.19\00:31:12.17 he went out to the city dump took off his cloths 00:31:12.20\00:31:14.73 so he could scrape his boils and he prayed and he said, 00:31:14.76\00:31:18.62 "Naked I came from my mother's womb, 00:31:18.65\00:31:21.02 and naked shall I return there. 00:31:21.05\00:31:23.30 The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away, 00:31:23.33\00:31:26.67 Blessed be the name of the Lord." 00:31:26.70\00:31:29.21 You know, we all come into this world naked. 00:31:29.24\00:31:32.53 Most of us, any of you come in this world wearing anything? 00:31:32.56\00:31:34.75 Just wondering. 00:31:34.78\00:31:36.63 Some always dress very carefully. 00:31:36.66\00:31:39.55 But we all come in this world naked, 00:31:39.58\00:31:42.02 and you know, we go out naked in the sense 00:31:42.05\00:31:43.96 that you can't take anything with you. 00:31:43.99\00:31:46.55 Someone once said, "You never see a U-Haul behind a hearse." 00:31:46.58\00:31:51.55 Pharaohs tried to bury themselves with the treasure 00:31:55.63\00:31:57.84 but you better make other plans for you treasure, 00:31:57.87\00:32:01.53 friends, because you can't take it with you. 00:32:01.56\00:32:03.65 Put it in God's work. 00:32:03.68\00:32:07.54 Matthew 27:28 "Christ was stripped 00:32:07.57\00:32:10.83 and they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him." 00:32:10.86\00:32:15.56 John 19:24 "They said therefore among themselves, 00:32:15.59\00:32:20.47 'Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, 00:32:20.50\00:32:22.25 to see whose it shall be,' that the Scripture might be 00:32:22.28\00:32:24.86 fulfilled it said, 'They divided my garments among them 00:32:24.89\00:32:28.00 and for my clothing they cast lots.'" 00:32:28.03\00:32:30.48 They took everything away from Jesus. 00:32:30.51\00:32:31.95 Now you know the paintings typically having 00:32:31.98\00:32:33.59 with the linen cloth and He may have had that. 00:32:33.62\00:32:36.00 The Hebrews considered themselves naked 00:32:36.03\00:32:37.83 if all you had was yours linen speedo or whatever they wore. 00:32:37.86\00:32:41.69 It talks about when Peter didn't have his fishers coat on 00:32:41.72\00:32:45.32 and end of the gospel of John and he was naked. 00:32:45.35\00:32:48.16 But he did have his swimsuit on. 00:32:48.19\00:32:49.69 He dove in the water and swam to Jesus. 00:32:49.72\00:32:51.80 So you know, the paintings typically picture 00:32:51.83\00:32:54.49 Jesus of having at least that 00:32:54.52\00:32:55.86 and of course we'd like to prefer that. 00:32:55.89\00:32:57.78 But it was humiliating none the less. 00:32:57.81\00:33:01.21 He was mocked. 00:33:01.24\00:33:03.32 Job 16:20 "My friends scorn me" mock me, 00:33:03.35\00:33:07.93 "my eyes pour out tears to God." 00:33:07.96\00:33:10.81 Job 30:9 "And now I am their taunting song, 00:33:10.84\00:33:15.38 yes, I am their byword." 00:33:15.41\00:33:17.78 Talking about the ridicule. 00:33:17.81\00:33:19.42 Again in Psalm 22 this prophecy about Christ. 00:33:19.45\00:33:22.64 "All those who see Me ridicule Me, 00:33:22.67\00:33:25.20 they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, 00:33:25.23\00:33:27.83 they say, He trusted in the Lord, 00:33:27.86\00:33:29.39 let Him rescue Him, let Him deliver Him, 00:33:29.42\00:33:31.85 since He delights in Him!" 00:33:31.88\00:33:33.30 There's angel if you're so righteous 00:33:33.33\00:33:34.54 how come God doesn't help you? 00:33:34.57\00:33:37.05 You know, it's really tough. 00:33:37.08\00:33:38.32 When you are a Christian and you go through some trial. 00:33:38.35\00:33:40.35 Sometimes we feel embarrassed because you've got this idea 00:33:40.38\00:33:44.64 that if we're doing everything right 00:33:44.67\00:33:47.73 God's going to prosper us financially, 00:33:47.76\00:33:49.52 He is going to take care of us physically 00:33:49.55\00:33:51.68 for following the health message 00:33:51.71\00:33:52.79 and yet even Christian will lose their wealth 00:33:52.82\00:33:56.56 and lose their health. 00:33:56.59\00:33:57.94 And we feel that because see we think Lord 00:33:57.97\00:34:00.90 the lost out there are going to see me 00:34:00.93\00:34:02.08 suffering they are going to think 00:34:02.11\00:34:03.14 what kind of witness am I, 00:34:03.17\00:34:04.32 how can I tell people how wonderful it is 00:34:04.35\00:34:06.17 to be a Christian when I've lost my wealth 00:34:06.20\00:34:07.90 and I've lost my health. 00:34:07.93\00:34:10.16 And sometimes you even struggle that way? 00:34:10.19\00:34:12.52 You think why is this happening to me? 00:34:12.55\00:34:14.19 How can I be a witness for you? 00:34:14.22\00:34:15.69 People aren't gonna want to be like me when they see me suffer. 00:34:15.72\00:34:19.19 But, you know, in reality 00:34:19.22\00:34:21.74 we are the best witnesses through trial. 00:34:21.77\00:34:25.32 God's church typically is the best witness 00:34:25.35\00:34:29.43 when we go through suffering. 00:34:29.46\00:34:32.44 It is through trial that we bare our brightest witness. 00:34:32.47\00:34:36.48 Where is Christ the greatest witness, isn't at the cross? 00:34:36.51\00:34:38.89 And if you can suffer patiently that really says something. 00:34:42.37\00:34:46.60 I've come out of the hospital room visiting saints 00:34:46.63\00:34:48.78 before and it strengthens my faith. 00:34:48.81\00:34:50.50 I don't come out and say, Lord, 00:34:50.53\00:34:52.69 if they are faithful then why are they suffering like this? 00:34:52.72\00:34:55.23 You go in there and you'll see these saints 00:34:55.26\00:34:56.77 and you'll say, you know, I just love the Lord, I trust the Lord, 00:34:56.80\00:34:58.95 and God knows why this is happening and I trust Him. 00:34:58.98\00:35:01.05 And I go out and wow, they got a lot of faith. 00:35:01.08\00:35:04.09 So when you are going through trials don't be embarrassed 00:35:04.12\00:35:06.84 and say God's abandoned you. 00:35:06.87\00:35:07.96 Say, Lord, how can I be a witness for You 00:35:07.99\00:35:10.09 through this trial? 00:35:10.12\00:35:11.51 Was Joseph a witness through his trials? 00:35:11.54\00:35:15.30 He was faithful whatever he did, servant, prisoner, 00:35:15.33\00:35:17.53 he said I'm going to witness for God. 00:35:17.56\00:35:20.50 Noah was not saved from the storm 00:35:20.53\00:35:22.10 he was saved through the storm 00:35:22.13\00:35:24.53 and it is through tribulation we enter the kingdom of God. 00:35:24.56\00:35:28.81 So don't despair if God allows you to go through trial. 00:35:28.84\00:35:31.93 He is usually saving you through it or others through it. 00:35:31.96\00:35:37.24 Every trial you go through as a Christian just remember that 00:35:37.27\00:35:40.16 God is either using it to refine you 00:35:40.19\00:35:43.08 or to reach others through your experience, 00:35:43.11\00:35:48.09 sometimes both. 00:35:48.12\00:35:51.21 Okay, back to our some of the parallels between Job and Jesus. 00:35:51.24\00:35:54.55 I'm making pretty good time here actually. 00:35:54.58\00:35:58.30 He was identified with the wicked. 00:35:58.33\00:36:01.85 Job 34:7, 8 they said, "What man is this like Job, 00:36:01.88\00:36:07.85 who drinks scorn like water, who goes in company 00:36:07.88\00:36:11.28 with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?" 00:36:11.31\00:36:15.64 Job is with the wicked, he is identified with the wicked. 00:36:15.67\00:36:17.88 What about Jesus? 00:36:17.91\00:36:18.94 Isaiah 53 "And He made His grave with the wicked." 00:36:18.97\00:36:23.88 Matthew 27, you know this verse 38 00:36:23.91\00:36:27.41 "Then two robbers were crucified with Him, 00:36:27.44\00:36:29.43 one on the right and another on the left." 00:36:29.46\00:36:31.58 His crucified right in the middle of two thieves, 00:36:31.61\00:36:33.70 rebels, and robbers. 00:36:33.73\00:36:37.22 Also says they were guilty of murder at least Barabbas was. 00:36:37.25\00:36:39.82 He surrendered his glory and his crown. 00:36:43.11\00:36:46.18 Job surrendered his glory and his crown. 00:36:46.21\00:36:49.15 Job 19:9 "He has stripped me of my glory, 00:36:49.18\00:36:53.19 and taken the crown from my head." 00:36:53.22\00:36:55.68 Did Jesus lay aside His glory and His crown 00:36:55.71\00:36:58.47 when He came to this earth like Job? 00:36:58.50\00:37:01.50 Hebrews 2:9 "But we see Jesus, 00:37:01.53\00:37:04.60 who was made a little lower than the angels, 00:37:04.63\00:37:07.01 for the suffering of death crowned with glory 00:37:07.04\00:37:09.58 and honor, that He, by the grace of God, 00:37:09.61\00:37:12.17 might taste death for everyone." 00:37:12.20\00:37:14.32 Christ, you read there in Philippians, 00:37:14.35\00:37:16.81 made Himself of no account suffered as a man, 00:37:16.84\00:37:21.38 humbled Himself to the point of cross. 00:37:21.41\00:37:23.49 There is darkness in the story of Job 00:37:27.77\00:37:31.03 and there is darkness in the story of Jesus. 00:37:31.06\00:37:33.21 Job 10:21, 22 "Before I go to the place 00:37:33.24\00:37:38.07 from which I shall not return, to the land of darkness 00:37:38.10\00:37:41.72 and the shadow of death, 00:37:41.75\00:37:43.66 A land as dark as darkness itself, 00:37:43.69\00:37:45.99 and the shadow of death, without any order, 00:37:46.02\00:37:48.45 where even the light is like darkness." 00:37:48.48\00:37:50.14 Notice there three times darkness, darkness, darkness. 00:37:50.17\00:37:53.20 When Christ is in the Garden of Gethsemane it was dark. 00:37:53.23\00:37:56.84 Even the next day when the sun should have been shining 00:37:56.87\00:37:59.75 when Christ is on the cross, what does it say? 00:37:59.78\00:38:02.79 Matthew 27:45 "Now from the sixth hour until 00:38:02.82\00:38:06.76 the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land." 00:38:06.79\00:38:10.65 The supernatural darkness not just like 00:38:10.68\00:38:13.29 when clouds obscure the sun 00:38:13.32\00:38:14.83 but something like the darkness 00:38:14.86\00:38:16.18 that went on Egypt during that plague. 00:38:16.21\00:38:19.38 An eerie, unnatural darkness came over the land 00:38:19.41\00:38:22.29 as the creation was rebelling against 00:38:22.32\00:38:25.07 the crucifixion of its Creator. 00:38:25.10\00:38:28.25 Christ was forsaken by His brothers so were Job. 00:38:28.28\00:38:31.42 Job 19:13 "He has removed my brothers far from me, 00:38:31.45\00:38:36.02 and my acquaintances are completely estranged from me." 00:38:36.05\00:38:39.53 Remember we already told you about Job's family, 00:38:39.56\00:38:41.54 his wife we know he lost his son, 00:38:41.57\00:38:43.81 his brethren in the town that he lived in and the land of Uz 00:38:43.84\00:38:48.21 is probably near Mesopotamia somewhere. 00:38:48.24\00:38:52.17 Evidently stop coming to visit them out there 00:38:52.20\00:38:54.38 at the dump they turned from him. 00:38:54.41\00:38:56.65 John 17:5 says "Even His brothers" 00:38:56.68\00:38:59.78 speaking of Jesus "Even His brothers did not believing Him." 00:38:59.81\00:39:05.07 Luke 23:49. 00:39:05.10\00:39:07.64 Speaking of Christ by Job "All His acquaintances, 00:39:07.67\00:39:11.47 and the women who followed Him from Galilee, 00:39:11.50\00:39:13.62 they stood at a distance, watching these things." 00:39:13.65\00:39:16.32 When He went through is suffering 00:39:16.35\00:39:17.53 instead of being right there-- 00:39:17.56\00:39:18.59 while the end of day you got Mary 00:39:18.62\00:39:20.09 and three Mary's at the foot of the cross 00:39:20.12\00:39:22.87 but it says the disciples stood far off Him 00:39:22.90\00:39:25.76 most of the seven or six hours Christ was on the cross. 00:39:25.79\00:39:31.23 Now one thing I want you to think about 00:39:31.26\00:39:33.21 before I run pass this. 00:39:33.24\00:39:36.03 The sufferings of Job and Jesus 00:39:36.06\00:39:38.79 are something you need to consider 00:39:38.82\00:39:42.31 because the Bible tells us that it is through tribulation 00:39:42.34\00:39:45.62 we enter the kingdom of God. 00:39:45.65\00:39:48.03 Now there are tribulations the church is gone through. 00:39:48.06\00:39:52.40 But there is a great tribulation the Bible speaks of. 00:39:52.43\00:39:56.53 There is the time of Jacob's trouble, 00:39:56.56\00:39:58.85 is that behind us or before us? 00:39:58.88\00:40:01.90 If you read in Daniel Chapter 12 it tells us 00:40:01.93\00:40:04.19 that when Michael stands up there will be a time of trouble 00:40:04.22\00:40:07.35 such as there never has been since 00:40:07.38\00:40:08.98 the there was a nation even under that same time. 00:40:09.01\00:40:11.23 Christ says speaking of the time of trouble. 00:40:11.26\00:40:17.09 He that endures unto the end shall be saved. 00:40:17.12\00:40:19.96 As you read the story of Job God has inviting us 00:40:19.99\00:40:23.10 to have that kind of faith because I believe 00:40:23.13\00:40:26.76 that everybody is going to experience 00:40:26.79\00:40:30.11 the isolation that Jesus and Job experienced. 00:40:30.14\00:40:34.00 What I'm saying is at some point we're all going to have 00:40:34.03\00:40:37.91 every earthly support removed 00:40:37.94\00:40:40.10 so all that we've got to lean on is Christ. 00:40:40.13\00:40:43.80 You'll not be hanging on to a little bit here, 00:40:43.83\00:40:46.11 and a little bit here, and a little bit here. 00:40:46.14\00:40:48.86 The only thing you're gonna be able to rest on is Jesus. 00:40:48.89\00:40:53.87 His friends, His family, His people, 00:40:53.90\00:40:57.93 His money everything was gone and all He had was His God. 00:40:57.96\00:41:03.71 And so we may have that happen to us. 00:41:03.74\00:41:07.53 2 Timothy 3:12. 00:41:07.56\00:41:09.67 This is relevant for us to study because the Bible says 00:41:09.70\00:41:11.85 "Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus 00:41:11.88\00:41:16.07 will suffer persecution." 00:41:16.10\00:41:17.55 We'll all be abandoned at some point. 00:41:17.58\00:41:20.34 We'll all be prosecuted. 00:41:20.37\00:41:23.01 Now as you consider the story of Job 00:41:23.04\00:41:25.35 when you get near the end of the book 00:41:25.38\00:41:27.71 the tide begins to turn. 00:41:27.74\00:41:30.05 And this is great discourse it happens between Job and God. 00:41:30.08\00:41:34.43 God speaks audibly to Job. 00:41:34.46\00:41:37.28 Did God speak audibly to Jesus? 00:41:37.31\00:41:41.12 Yeah, that's something to consider. 00:41:41.15\00:41:44.07 Then God says that Job was innocent, 00:41:44.10\00:41:46.61 his friends were wrong. 00:41:46.64\00:41:49.88 And Job forgives his friends for a bit-- 00:41:49.91\00:41:54.90 I mean, you know, sometimes in your hour of need 00:41:54.93\00:41:56.66 when your friends leave you hanging 00:41:56.69\00:41:58.32 or when they turn your back on you 00:41:58.35\00:41:59.76 when you need them the most sometimes 00:41:59.79\00:42:01.54 they stop being your friends forever. 00:42:01.57\00:42:04.49 Let's face it, that's the way some of us react 00:42:04.52\00:42:07.09 if our friends let us down when we really need them. 00:42:07.12\00:42:08.72 We'll say, I really needed you, 00:42:08.75\00:42:09.78 I don't need you as friend anymore, forgot about you. 00:42:09.81\00:42:13.47 That's not what Job did. 00:42:13.50\00:42:15.31 He not only forgives his friends, 00:42:15.34\00:42:16.65 he intercedes with God for his friends. 00:42:16.68\00:42:20.54 Jesus intercedes with God for us 00:42:20.57\00:42:24.40 who are responsible for His death. 00:42:24.43\00:42:28.37 He becomes our intercedes well, 00:42:28.40\00:42:29.58 not only that Job was a mediator, he is a priest. 00:42:29.61\00:42:33.30 In the very beginning of the book it says 00:42:33.33\00:42:34.67 he is offering sacrifice for his sons, right, for his family. 00:42:34.70\00:42:38.18 The end of the book he is offering 00:42:38.21\00:42:39.24 sacrifice for his friends. 00:42:39.27\00:42:41.36 He is a great mediator. 00:42:41.39\00:42:43.42 You can read about that in Job 1: 4, 5. 00:42:43.45\00:42:46.53 His boys would go and celebrate each others birthday 00:42:46.56\00:42:49.47 and they would have a feast and Job would offer sacrifice 00:42:49.50\00:42:51.43 in case they got carried away 00:42:51.46\00:42:52.73 and they curse God in their hearts. 00:42:52.76\00:42:55.10 Job 42. Listen to this verse 8. 00:42:55.13\00:42:58.82 "Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls 00:42:58.85\00:43:01.42 and seven rams." 00:43:01.45\00:43:03.26 By the way the sacred numbers are three and seven 00:43:03.29\00:43:06.10 appear a lot in the Book of Jobs as they do in the life of Jesus. 00:43:06.13\00:43:10.64 His friends sit down for seven days, 00:43:10.67\00:43:12.60 Job's got seven sons, three daughter. 00:43:12.63\00:43:14.67 You gonna find that number appearing a lot. 00:43:14.70\00:43:16.18 Those was sacred number. 00:43:16.21\00:43:17.44 Three friends. 00:43:17.47\00:43:19.90 "Take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams 00:43:19.93\00:43:24.54 and go to My servant Job, and offer for yourselves 00:43:24.57\00:43:27.30 a burnt offering, and My servant Job shall pray for you." 00:43:27.33\00:43:31.00 Jesus is our intercedes where He prays for us. 00:43:31.03\00:43:33.50 "For I will accept him." 00:43:33.53\00:43:35.64 They are saying, God is saying to the friends of Job, 00:43:35.67\00:43:37.39 you make a sacrifice and because of Job I will forgive you. 00:43:37.42\00:43:42.45 Now isn't that like Christ? 00:43:42.48\00:43:45.09 I mean, it's--we pray to God but we do it in Christ name. 00:43:45.12\00:43:48.18 It's through the merits of Christ that we get forgiven 00:43:48.21\00:43:50.53 and it's through the name of Job his friends are forgiven. 00:43:50.56\00:43:53.42 So he becomes a great intercedes for them. 00:43:53.45\00:43:56.87 "Because you have not spoken of me 00:43:56.90\00:43:58.59 what is right as my servant Job had." 00:43:58.62\00:44:00.86 Don't miss that. 00:44:00.89\00:44:02.50 In the whole Book of Job God says Job's word was right. 00:44:02.53\00:44:07.93 What do we know about Jesus? 00:44:07.96\00:44:09.14 Are His words true? He is the Word. 00:44:09.17\00:44:12.74 Romans 8:34 "Who is he who condemns? 00:44:12.77\00:44:15.97 It is Christ who died, furthermore He is risen, 00:44:16.00\00:44:19.38 He is even at the right hand of God, 00:44:19.41\00:44:20.88 who makes intercession for us." 00:44:20.91\00:44:22.37 Jesus is our intercessor and our mediator. 00:44:22.40\00:44:25.68 And you know, what else I love about the comparison 00:44:25.71\00:44:28.07 between Job and Jesus is as you near the end of the book 00:44:28.10\00:44:33.35 there are times when Job's faith is vacillating 00:44:33.38\00:44:37.89 and you can say he is in why, why, why and Jesus why. 00:44:37.92\00:44:40.70 Why have You forsaken Me? 00:44:40.73\00:44:42.87 But it triumphs then you read those versus where he says, 00:44:42.90\00:44:46.75 "Though he slay me yet will I trust him." 00:44:46.78\00:44:50.69 So no matter what happens Christ on the cross at the end 00:44:50.72\00:44:54.04 He triumphs, He ends up saying 00:44:54.07\00:44:56.70 Father into Your hands I commend My spirit, it is finished. 00:44:56.73\00:45:00.95 He knew that His mission was complete. 00:45:00.98\00:45:03.15 It was great triumph there. 00:45:03.18\00:45:06.29 By the way that's a Job 13:15, Luke 23:46. 00:45:06.32\00:45:10.80 Now something that's really fascinating 00:45:10.83\00:45:13.66 at the end of the Book of Job, 00:45:13.69\00:45:16.10 the beginning of the Book of Job, 00:45:16.13\00:45:17.42 Job doesn't know what's going on. 00:45:17.45\00:45:18.79 And all the sudden he gets blindsided 00:45:18.82\00:45:20.62 by all these plagues and losing his family, 00:45:20.65\00:45:22.99 and losing his wealth, and his health. 00:45:23.02\00:45:26.42 And he said, why is God done this to me? 00:45:26.45\00:45:28.22 By the end of the book God is showing Him 00:45:28.25\00:45:30.18 now who is really behind it. 00:45:30.21\00:45:33.24 He talks about creation and the birds and the beast 00:45:33.27\00:45:35.38 but then all of the sudden in Job Chapter 41 00:45:35.41\00:45:40.27 God dedicates an entire chapter 00:45:40.30\00:45:42.29 to some sea monster called the Leviathan. 00:45:42.32\00:45:46.92 Why is God talking all the sudden about this monster 00:45:46.95\00:45:51.17 in the second last chapter of the book, whole chapter? 00:45:51.20\00:45:57.20 Let's find out who is this leviathan. 00:45:57.23\00:45:59.31 But by the way you can read here in Job 41:19, 20 00:45:59.34\00:46:04.02 "Out of his mouth go burning lights, 00:46:04.05\00:46:06.02 sparks of fire shoot out. 00:46:06.05\00:46:07.91 Smoke goes out of his nostrils, 00:46:07.94\00:46:10.01 as from a boiling pot and burning rushes." 00:46:10.04\00:46:14.22 Job 41:34 "He beholds every high thing, 00:46:14.25\00:46:18.78 He is king over all the children of pride." 00:46:18.81\00:46:22.03 Who do you think the leviathan represents? 00:46:22.06\00:46:24.19 Who is the king over the children of pride? 00:46:24.22\00:46:27.92 Satan, the devil. 00:46:27.95\00:46:29.72 Now listen here's the key Isaiah 27:1 00:46:29.75\00:46:34.53 "In that day the Lord with His sore and great 00:46:34.56\00:46:37.95 and strong sword" that's the word of God 00:46:37.98\00:46:40.94 "shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, 00:46:40.97\00:46:46.24 even leviathan that crooked serpent, 00:46:46.27\00:46:48.92 and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea." 00:46:48.95\00:46:51.79 Oh, ah-ha, you ought to have an epiphany right about now. 00:46:51.82\00:46:57.15 Does that sound familiar to you? 00:46:57.18\00:46:58.76 Revelation Chapter 12 speaking of that dragon. 00:46:58.79\00:47:02.20 "Another sign appeared in heaven, a great fiery dragon." 00:47:02.23\00:47:05.26 Says in Chapter 13:1 "This beast with seven heads 00:47:05.29\00:47:08.67 and seven horns comes up out of the sea." 00:47:08.70\00:47:11.74 And it says that "Dragon that serpent of all 00:47:11.77\00:47:14.52 called the devil and Satan." 00:47:14.55\00:47:16.73 Dragon, serpent, leviathan out of the sea. 00:47:16.76\00:47:20.63 Who were we talking about? 00:47:20.66\00:47:22.40 So in the end of the book what is God saying? 00:47:22.43\00:47:25.47 Now there may have been some sea creature, it's now extinct. 00:47:25.50\00:47:29.44 Scholars don't agree, some say it's a crocodile, 00:47:29.47\00:47:31.69 but they say couldn't been a crocodiles in the ocean 00:47:31.72\00:47:33.47 well, there are salt water crocodiles 00:47:33.50\00:47:36.31 but they weren't that big. 00:47:36.34\00:47:38.28 And they think it maybe some left over 00:47:38.31\00:47:40.95 of a prehistoric creature 00:47:40.98\00:47:42.69 that they had backed then and it's now extinct. 00:47:42.72\00:47:44.53 Nobody really knows. 00:47:44.56\00:47:47.40 But it talks about this enormous monster 00:47:47.43\00:47:49.64 that no fisherman could ever catch, 00:47:49.67\00:47:51.89 that no one could ever tamed 00:47:51.92\00:47:53.03 this monster sea creature that was out there. 00:47:53.06\00:47:56.10 And believe me sailors have plenty of stories 00:47:56.13\00:47:57.68 and theories about what that is. 00:47:57.71\00:48:01.33 But he is basically saying 00:48:01.36\00:48:03.52 you can't defeat the leviathan without me. 00:48:03.55\00:48:06.86 He is the one who is behind your sufferings, 00:48:06.89\00:48:09.02 he is the one who brought fire down from the heaven 00:48:09.05\00:48:10.91 and burnt up your crops, 00:48:10.94\00:48:12.92 who is able to send this sickness, 00:48:12.95\00:48:14.31 who destroyed your family with a tornado. 00:48:14.34\00:48:17.51 You can't defeat the devil, but God says I can. 00:48:17.54\00:48:22.58 And so on the end of the Book of Job God is saying 00:48:22.61\00:48:25.08 that I'm the one who can destroy the leviathan, 00:48:25.11\00:48:28.07 the king of pride. 00:48:28.10\00:48:30.29 And Job is going, it's not you God who is been against me. 00:48:30.32\00:48:34.56 It's the leviathan, the devil, the dragon, 00:48:34.59\00:48:36.53 the serpent who is been after me. 00:48:36.56\00:48:39.03 And you simply let his leash get a little longer 00:48:39.06\00:48:42.56 so that I could learn something, learn to trust you. 00:48:42.59\00:48:46.86 You know, what's also beautiful about the Book of Job 00:48:46.89\00:48:51.89 is that it teaches us lessons of hanging on in patience. 00:48:51.92\00:48:58.68 In the end Job is blessed. 00:48:58.71\00:49:02.87 He is doubly blessed in the end. 00:49:02.90\00:49:06.01 Matter of fact, Job kind of goes through a resurrection, 00:49:06.04\00:49:08.55 don't you think? 00:49:08.58\00:49:09.73 He goes from being in the dump cover with boils dying, 00:49:09.76\00:49:13.91 it looks terminal, all of the sudden 00:49:13.94\00:49:16.04 God heals him miraculously. 00:49:16.07\00:49:18.55 He is interceding for his friends, 00:49:18.58\00:49:20.29 he restores all of his wealth, he has got twice as much wealth. 00:49:20.32\00:49:23.83 You look at what he has, add up 00:49:23.86\00:49:25.12 what he has got in the beginning 00:49:25.15\00:49:26.30 then you add up what he has at the end it's doubled. 00:49:26.33\00:49:29.91 And he lives another 140 beyond that experience. 00:49:29.94\00:49:33.54 We don't know how old he was, you can just speculate he was 00:49:33.57\00:49:35.75 at least for him to be have those kids that he had 00:49:35.78\00:49:38.83 and have the wealth he had based on that time in what he lived, 00:49:38.86\00:49:41.33 he lived over 200 years. 00:49:41.36\00:49:44.71 And so it was like a type of resurrection 00:49:44.74\00:49:46.37 he went through just like Jesus. 00:49:46.40\00:49:48.33 And his glory returned to him 00:49:48.36\00:49:49.81 as Christ when he ascended to heaven. 00:49:49.84\00:49:51.78 His health returned to him, his friends returned to him, 00:49:51.81\00:49:54.59 everything came back. 00:49:54.62\00:49:56.60 And you may go through trials but, you know, 00:49:56.63\00:49:58.22 the Book of Job ends with the happy note. 00:49:58.25\00:50:00.75 That's what James says remember the patience of Job 00:50:00.78\00:50:03.45 don't get discourage of your going through 00:50:03.48\00:50:04.92 the trial, friends. 00:50:04.95\00:50:06.49 God still loves you, there is a devil out there 00:50:06.52\00:50:09.34 and he is gonna try and cause problems. 00:50:09.37\00:50:11.16 But when you look at the sculpt of Job's life 200 years. 00:50:11.19\00:50:16.70 And then the 42 chapters 00:50:16.73\00:50:18.14 how long that it last out of that 200 years? 00:50:18.17\00:50:21.78 A few weeks, a few weeks of suffering for the 200 years. 00:50:21.81\00:50:27.68 So the suffering that we experience in this life 00:50:27.71\00:50:30.25 and the episodes of suffering in this life compare to eternity 00:50:30.28\00:50:33.14 what is, is it worthy to be compared? 00:50:33.17\00:50:36.24 Its small compared to the glory, and the joy, 00:50:36.27\00:50:39.49 and the happiness, and the blessing, 00:50:39.52\00:50:40.87 and the riches that God is gonna give us for eternity. 00:50:40.90\00:50:44.40 So the Book of Job is not a sad book. 00:50:44.43\00:50:46.26 Oh, there's a lot of heavy things in there but, you know, 00:50:46.29\00:50:48.06 it starts out talking about a perfect man 00:50:48.09\00:50:50.68 and it ends up talking about a happy blessed man. 00:50:50.71\00:50:53.97 And then it says that in between 00:50:54.00\00:50:56.30 you've got God's blessing the protection 00:50:56.33\00:50:58.33 that devil makes an attack. 00:50:58.36\00:51:00.60 Job does not give up his faith 00:51:00.63\00:51:02.87 and then in the end he is blessed forever. 00:51:02.90\00:51:05.98 You and I are going to get attacked. 00:51:06.01\00:51:07.89 You might be going through an attack right now. 00:51:07.92\00:51:10.23 Don't give up your faith. 00:51:10.26\00:51:11.58 Remember where I started out with that quote from James. 00:51:11.61\00:51:14.52 "Behold, we count them happy which endure." 00:51:14.55\00:51:16.71 Jesus said, blessed are those who endure to the end. 00:51:16.74\00:51:21.40 They will be saved. 00:51:21.43\00:51:22.46 "He then endures to the end shall be saved." 00:51:22.49\00:51:24.07 You've heard the patience of Job 00:51:24.10\00:51:25.72 and you've seen the end of the Lord 00:51:25.75\00:51:28.47 that the Lord is pitiful and tender mercy. 00:51:28.50\00:51:31.04 In the end, friends, we win, not the leviathan or not the dragon. 00:51:31.07\00:51:36.55 Can you see Jesus in the Book of Job? 00:51:36.58\00:51:40.02 You know, it's really is holy grounded 00:51:40.05\00:51:41.65 tells you something about how much Jesus 00:51:41.68\00:51:43.32 must love you 'cause of the sufferings 00:51:43.35\00:51:45.65 He went through and Job did not suffer like Jesus. 00:51:45.68\00:51:49.66 He suffered and you may suffer, 00:51:49.69\00:51:52.91 you might be suffering now 00:51:52.94\00:51:54.98 and I haven't suffered like Jesus suffered. 00:51:55.01\00:51:57.36 He took the weight of the sins of the world on his shoulder 00:51:57.39\00:52:00.28 for you and me because He loves us so much, 00:52:00.31\00:52:02.42 'cause He doesn't want us to suffer like that. 00:52:02.45\00:52:05.07 And I think you could trust the God like that 00:52:05.10\00:52:07.50 don't you, friends? 00:52:07.53\00:52:08.93 Why does God allow us to go through these trials? 00:52:08.96\00:52:12.94 It's through constant irritation 00:52:12.97\00:52:15.98 that annoys your produces pearl. 00:52:16.01\00:52:19.22 It's through pressure and heat 00:52:19.25\00:52:23.00 that a lump of coal turns into a diamond. 00:52:23.03\00:52:26.47 It is through fiery trials that God purifies His church. 00:52:26.50\00:52:30.04 It's the hot iron and the hot water that cut the wrinkles 00:52:30.07\00:52:32.78 out of the garment, the wedding dress or God's bride. 00:52:32.81\00:52:39.66 And I notice something when the weather is nice 00:52:39.69\00:52:42.60 and warming you got a lot of flies and mosquitoes. 00:52:42.63\00:52:46.02 With the winter blast that's kind of tough when the cold 00:52:46.05\00:52:49.26 winter freezing weather comes but now the nice thing 00:52:49.29\00:52:52.22 is you open the window there is no more files and mosquitoes. 00:52:52.25\00:52:55.01 Sometime the God sends that winter storm into your life 00:52:55.04\00:52:57.51 'cause He is killing all the bugs.
