In the book of Revelation Jesus in speaking to the 00:00:20.56\00:00:23.81 seven churches says repeatedly to him that overcomes, 00:00:23.84\00:00:27.00 to him that overcomes, to him that overcomes and in 00:00:27.03\00:00:29.54 and in each of those instances He gives a promise 00:00:29.57\00:00:32.05 associated with that overcoming. 00:00:32.08\00:00:33.89 That's exactly what we are going to be talking about 00:00:33.92\00:00:36.19 on our program today, my name is David Asscherick and 00:00:36.22\00:00:38.45 I am here with my co-host Shandra Ban. 00:00:38.49\00:00:40.31 Welcome to Engage and we are going 00:00:40.35\00:00:42.00 to be talking about Overcoming. 00:00:42.03\00:00:43.61 So Shandra if you would introduce us to our guests today 00:00:43.65\00:00:47.01 that would be a great thing. 00:00:47.04\00:00:48.04 Sure David thank you, we are so excited to have Chad 00:00:48.07\00:00:50.67 and Fadia Kreuzer back with us. 00:00:50.71\00:00:52.44 They were here with us once before sharing their testimony 00:00:52.47\00:00:54.89 about how the Lord has worked in their lives and has 00:00:54.93\00:00:58.29 help them to create a ministry of creativity, making 00:00:58.32\00:01:01.30 documentaries, so would you guys just both recap 00:01:01.34\00:01:04.28 a bit of your story from last time? 00:01:04.32\00:01:05.91 Yeah sure, I was raised once again in a Christian home. 00:01:05.95\00:01:09.88 I believed in God but kind of fell away and 00:01:09.92\00:01:13.78 didn't really follow God. 00:01:13.82\00:01:14.84 Through a series of events I was struggling with 00:01:14.88\00:01:18.22 alcohol, smoking, drugs and these kinds of things. 00:01:18.26\00:01:21.49 Through a series of events my friend Andy who was an 00:01:21.53\00:01:24.90 atheist ended up giving his life to the Lord and it was 00:01:24.94\00:01:28.28 a rebuke to me because he didn't believe and I did 00:01:28.31\00:01:30.53 believe but wasn't living for it. 00:01:30.56\00:01:32.12 So his own personal experience on just the fact that 00:01:32.15\00:01:36.19 he said listen I can't be doing any of these things anymore, 00:01:36.23\00:01:37.83 I can't be living this way. 00:01:37.86\00:01:39.19 You know you are that way when an atheist is witnessing 00:01:39.23\00:01:41.34 to you about God? - exactly. 00:01:41.38\00:01:43.24 So you get convicted and then what happens? 00:01:43.28\00:01:45.90 Then sometime after that the Lord finally gave me 00:01:45.93\00:01:49.79 victory over the drinking, over the drugs and 00:01:49.83\00:01:53.65 the smoking was the hardest one. 00:01:53.69\00:01:55.24 I chewed, I smoked, basically I chewed till my gums hurt 00:01:55.27\00:02:00.89 and it was always easy for me to quit because 00:02:00.92\00:02:03.46 - when you said chew your talking about chewing tobacco 00:02:03.49\00:02:06.81 - yeah the stick in and dip in - so that's like common. 00:02:06.85\00:02:10.79 Exactly so I went from that and I can always quit because 00:02:10.83\00:02:14.23 I can always switch back to smoking and so I went back and 00:02:14.26\00:02:17.04 forth till my lungs hurt and that I would go back to the 00:02:17.08\00:02:19.82 chewing and just back and forth and back and forth. 00:02:19.85\00:02:21.65 Finally the Lord slowly gave me victory over those things 00:02:21.69\00:02:24.69 and I went to a Bible prophecy seminar in Grand Rapids 00:02:24.72\00:02:27.69 Michigan with David Asscherick, yours truly. 00:02:27.72\00:02:30.62 That was great, that was awesome, I remember that 00:02:30.65\00:02:33.18 experience, it went very well. 00:02:33.21\00:02:34.54 It was a large meeting and there is tons of people there 00:02:34.57\00:02:36.50 from young to old, there were all kinds of different people. 00:02:36.53\00:02:38.42 - you would have been young when you came? 00:02:38.46\00:02:39.61 - yeah I was 19 years old. 00:02:39.65\00:02:41.56 And Fadia what about you? 00:02:41.59\00:02:43.43 Well I was born in Baghdad Iraq to a Christian family. 00:02:43.47\00:02:47.67 We moved to the states when I was four going on five. 00:02:47.71\00:02:51.83 Brought up in Chicago and brought up in a Christian home, 00:02:51.86\00:02:55.95 went to a Christian school and everything but didn't 00:02:55.99\00:02:59.24 have the Christian experience, it wasn't my own until 00:02:59.27\00:03:02.49 my older brother past away in a car accident. 00:03:02.52\00:03:06.98 He was killed by a drunk driver and then a series of 00:03:07.01\00:03:10.91 events happened and I gave my heart to the Lord and 00:03:10.95\00:03:15.23 then wanted to be totally His, committed to Jesus and 00:03:15.26\00:03:19.24 He opened the doors and I went through them and here 00:03:19.27\00:03:23.22 we are today doing a ministry. 00:03:23.25\00:03:24.68 So you say there was a series of events that happened 00:03:24.71\00:03:27.76 but the pivotal event was the death of your brother? 00:03:27.80\00:03:31.56 It caused me to think about life, I started to think to 00:03:31.59\00:03:35.46 myself if I were to die tomorrow what would life be like 00:03:35.50\00:03:39.37 for others that I have influenced and I couldn't think 00:03:39.40\00:03:42.92 of one person that had been influenced positively towards 00:03:42.95\00:03:46.43 Christ because of my life. 00:03:46.47\00:03:48.72 I remember you saying that in the last program and 00:03:48.75\00:03:50.43 that's convicting, that is so convicting. 00:03:50.47\00:03:52.34 So your not only thinking about life but it brought you 00:03:52.38\00:03:54.37 face to face with death as well. 00:03:54.41\00:03:55.49 - yeah! - so you guys mentioned a few things here in 00:03:55.52\00:03:57.64 your stories, Chad you mentioned the alcohol, 00:03:57.67\00:03:59.82 the smoking and Fadia you mentioned just not having 00:03:59.85\00:04:03.03 knowledge and not knowing so you saw these needs and 00:04:03.06\00:04:06.08 that has led you into a ministry can you tell us 00:04:06.12\00:04:09.10 a little more about that? 00:04:09.14\00:04:10.30 Yeah, when we were over the years ministering to people 00:04:10.34\00:04:14.08 you realize that as you're giving the Gospel, 00:04:14.11\00:04:16.81 as you are giving the truth from the Bible to people 00:04:16.85\00:04:20.07 they have issues in their lives that are unresolved and 00:04:20.10\00:04:23.29 tearing up their life today. 00:04:23.32\00:04:25.49 Practical things, you know whether it be drugs or alcohol 00:04:25.52\00:04:30.06 or a lack of forgiveness. 00:04:30.09\00:04:32.01 With me I hadn't realized that I hadn't forgive the 00:04:32.04\00:04:36.07 person that had killed my brother. 00:04:36.11\00:04:37.59 I thought I did, and just said all forgive and forget 00:04:37.63\00:04:41.04 that it's what good Christians do, but I hadn't dealt 00:04:41.07\00:04:44.41 with it and not until something major happened and then it 00:04:44.45\00:04:49.19 came to life, well I haven't forgiven this man. 00:04:49.22\00:04:52.01 I love what you are saying there that we sometimes just 00:04:52.04\00:04:56.01 pretend like everything is fine spiritually, 00:04:56.05\00:04:57.50 then everything is fine when in the reality is that 00:04:57.53\00:05:00.15 people may have an intellectual, or sort of a cerebral 00:05:00.18\00:05:02.76 acceptance of spiritual things but then people still 00:05:02.79\00:05:05.33 have lives they have issues. 00:05:05.37\00:05:06.59 They have physical things, they have emotional things, people 00:05:06.63\00:05:10.19 people I guess is really the way to say it and that is one of 00:05:10.22\00:05:13.74 things we are going to talk about today, is how do 00:05:13.78\00:05:15.54 we make that transition to help people make more mature 00:05:15.58\00:05:19.29 and biblically grounded decisions in their lives and 00:05:19.32\00:05:23.15 overcoming, that is our program, some of these practical 00:05:23.19\00:05:26.79 things, these real-life issues and we are going to get 00:05:26.82\00:05:30.04 in the dirt today so to speak and talk about some of that. 00:05:30.08\00:05:33.26 One of the things I appreciate about Chad and Fadia's 00:05:33.30\00:05:37.12 ministry is that when you see a need you just do it. 00:05:37.15\00:05:40.70 You needed these documentary programs as we talked about 00:05:40.73\00:05:44.24 last time and you just created it. 00:05:44.28\00:05:45.56 You are out ministering to people and say hey we need 00:05:45.59\00:05:49.09 to create a resource, we need to be studying and giving 00:05:49.12\00:05:51.97 a resource to people in these practical areas of life 00:05:52.01\00:05:54.82 so we want to talk about that today. 00:05:54.85\00:05:56.82 This Overcoming Seminar, so maybe you could tell us 00:05:56.86\00:05:59.77 a little bit about how that came to be, sort of the 00:05:59.81\00:06:02.68 birth of the Overcoming Seminar you do? 00:06:02.72\00:06:05.83 Yeah you know for years we put on Bible prophecies 00:06:05.86\00:06:09.18 seminars and we would go around and we meet all kinds 00:06:09.22\00:06:12.50 of different people from different backgrounds. 00:06:12.53\00:06:14.20 People would come and you would find at the end of the 00:06:14.23\00:06:16.92 seminar people were struggling with maybe with addiction, 00:06:16.95\00:06:19.80 they're struggling with like Fadia mentioned forgiveness, 00:06:19.84\00:06:23.36 what ever it is they have something that they want to be 00:06:23.40\00:06:26.05 closer to God but there is something holding them back. 00:06:26.09\00:06:29.24 As we saw that we would use to work with stop smoking 00:06:29.27\00:06:32.46 programs, but you realize that's one and only one of 00:06:32.49\00:06:35.64 many, many issues that people have. 00:06:35.68\00:06:37.79 And actually we were over in Iceland, we worked in 00:06:37.83\00:06:41.13 Iceland for a year actually and while we were over there 00:06:41.16\00:06:44.30 we were studying with a spiritualist and a really nice 00:06:44.34\00:06:47.45 guy and we had a great time. 00:06:47.48\00:06:48.72 We were actually studying the Bible together and he was 00:06:48.75\00:06:51.35 very open and finally he had an addiction and his wife 00:06:51.39\00:06:53.96 was a Buddhist from Thailand. 00:06:53.99\00:06:55.95 So you had this Icelander with a Buddhist wife. 00:06:55.98\00:06:58.59 We have an Icelandic spiritualist and okay. 00:06:58.62\00:07:01.15 It was a very interesting situation because she knew 00:07:01.19\00:07:03.94 nothing about the Bible but finally he had heard 00:07:03.98\00:07:06.66 we had done stop smoking programs and he said, he said 00:07:06.69\00:07:10.33 I have an addiction to chocolate and maybe you can help 00:07:10.37\00:07:13.97 me to get over that. 00:07:14.01\00:07:15.21 And we chuckled thinking he was being, - but he wasn't 00:07:15.24\00:07:18.05 kidding, - he wasn't kidding it was chocolate and his 00:07:18.09\00:07:21.11 wife said no, no, no he has a serious problem with this. 00:07:21.15\00:07:24.14 - with chocolate? With chocolate so we. 00:07:24.17\00:07:25.93 - was he a great big guy? - no he was in good shape, 00:07:25.96\00:07:28.39 he was healthy guy generally but the fact that this thing 00:07:28.42\00:07:31.38 he was really struggling with, so we thought he was kidding. 00:07:31.42\00:07:34.34 He was getting real bad migraines 00:07:34.38\00:07:36.08 - he was getting migraines from it and so they finally 00:07:36.12\00:07:39.48 asked can you work with, use some of the principles for 00:07:39.52\00:07:42.81 this? That kind of got us an idea off on okay, I would have 00:07:42.84\00:07:45.65 thought initially it was a big deal, but it was for him. 00:07:45.69\00:07:48.71 One of the things about addic- tions sometimes what doesn't 00:07:48.74\00:07:51.72 look like an addiction may be to the rest of us 00:07:51.76\00:07:54.33 actually is a serious trouble for an individual. 00:07:54.37\00:07:56.85 So then slowly over time we brought into the seminar 00:07:56.89\00:08:00.05 because the principles for overcoming habits or finding 00:08:00.08\00:08:02.75 victory in your spiritual life are pretty much general 00:08:02.78\00:08:05.33 principles and if you use those principles you can 00:08:05.36\00:08:07.87 pretty much overcome in any area of life. 00:08:07.91\00:08:09.92 So now we've used this term overcoming several times here, 00:08:09.96\00:08:12.64 can either of you speak to what is overcoming? 00:08:12.67\00:08:15.88 - good question. - yeah overcoming is basically 00:08:15.92\00:08:19.05 finding spiritual victory, progress in your own life. 00:08:19.09\00:08:22.50 Finding out that you realize you have something, what 00:08:22.54\00:08:25.34 ever it may be whether it be an addiction to drugs, 00:08:25.38\00:08:28.20 alcohol, tobacco or whatever it may be for some kind of 00:08:28.23\00:08:30.91 a personal habit, it may not be a drug or a substance. 00:08:30.94\00:08:33.58 It could be pornography that is one of the things 00:08:33.62\00:08:35.88 we talk about it our seminar. 00:08:35.91\00:08:37.23 We have all these different things and then also that 00:08:37.27\00:08:41.01 area for forgiveness in finding victory over the habit 00:08:41.05\00:08:44.75 or over the negative repetitive thoughts. 00:08:44.79\00:08:46.88 If it's lack of forgiveness, you repeat the story over 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.42 and over in your head, or you play it out and 00:08:49.45\00:08:52.37 it is getting to the point where God gives you a freedom 00:08:52.40\00:08:55.53 from those things, helps you to be able to back off and 00:08:55.57\00:08:58.66 not have love for those things in the past or just 00:08:58.69\00:09:01.07 a constant negative repetitive action. 00:09:01.11\00:09:02.91 So when we use the term overcoming in a biblical sense, 00:09:02.95\00:09:05.31 in the sense of overcoming seminar we are talking about 00:09:05.34\00:09:08.36 better lifestyle choices and getting to the place where 00:09:08.40\00:09:11.13 those things can be behind us. And you are seeing this? 00:09:11.17\00:09:15.06 Absolutely, absolutely we, it's basically a five or six 00:09:15.09\00:09:18.95 days seminar, generally we do five days. 00:09:18.99\00:09:21.14 In that seminar we go over health principles, 00:09:21.18\00:09:25.77 lifestyle habits, because one of the things if you just 00:09:25.81\00:09:29.08 avoid a bad habit what ends up happening is you fill it with 00:09:29.12\00:09:32.42 something so it's how to implement good habits in the 00:09:32.45\00:09:35.57 place of something that is bad, you get the biblical 00:09:35.61\00:09:38.12 example of! - I say it's on the tip of my tongue 00:09:38.15\00:09:40.63 but go ahead please. 00:09:40.66\00:09:41.63 There is a guy who is demon possessed of the demon is 00:09:41.64\00:09:45.68 cast forth out of him so now the house is swept clean 00:09:45.71\00:09:49.85 and how many others come in? - 7- 7 other demons come. 00:09:49.89\00:09:53.92 Because he is clean he's open and they can fill him 00:09:53.96\00:09:57.96 up and he is worse off in the end than he was. 00:09:57.99\00:09:59.75 Sometimes that happens in our spiritual lives, we come 00:09:59.79\00:10:02.91 to Christ, we accept Him, our lives are changed for the 00:10:02.94\00:10:06.12 better but we are not filling our lives with the things 00:10:06.16\00:10:08.97 of God so what ends up happening is our life ends up being 00:10:09.01\00:10:11.79 worse than before and we think man, I might as well 00:10:11.83\00:10:13.74 give up this whole spiritual life thing, there's no point. 00:10:13.78\00:10:16.36 Something that I really appreciate that you guys have 00:10:16.39\00:10:18.54 mentioned several times, I've actually personally been 00:10:18.57\00:10:20.65 through your Overcoming Seminar and it was a blessing to me 00:10:20.68\00:10:22.99 and I have been able to share a lot of the principles 00:10:23.02\00:10:25.30 but one thing that you are saying here is that if 00:10:25.34\00:10:27.58 I see the title of overcoming I think oh, 00:10:27.62\00:10:29.48 I don't need to overcome drugs. 00:10:29.51\00:10:30.89 I don't smoke, but I really resonate with the fact that 00:10:30.93\00:10:34.25 you say there are other things, I mean pride, being 00:10:34.28\00:10:37.87 judgmental even mental habits and sugar that's a huge 00:10:37.91\00:10:40.97 thing that people need to overcome. - food is a major 00:10:41.01\00:10:44.97 issue that a lot of people eat too little or eat too 00:10:45.00\00:10:48.02 much or they just eat unhealthy food, all these issues 00:10:48.05\00:10:51.36 they may seem small to other people but someone who is 00:10:51.40\00:10:54.67 stuck in this realizes it can be a bondage. 00:10:54.71\00:10:57.05 I love what you were saying earlier and that is this 00:10:57.08\00:11:00.13 idea that true overcoming is not just the absence of 00:11:00.17\00:11:03.18 the bad but if the presence of the good. 00:11:03.21\00:11:04.78 I love that language and I appreciate that so you have 00:11:04.82\00:11:09.69 given us some practical hints here. 00:11:09.73\00:11:11.05 We kind of have a definition of overcoming, it just 00:11:11.08\00:11:14.07 sounds like its moral growth, growing to be the person 00:11:14.11\00:11:17.07 that God has created us to be in overcoming those 00:11:17.10\00:11:20.15 baggage that we had in the past so maybe we can just 00:11:20.18\00:11:23.04 talk a little bit about some of the specific things 00:11:23.08\00:11:25.90 that you cover in your Overcoming Seminar. 00:11:25.94\00:11:28.79 Okay let's just say I just showed up here today what 00:11:28.82\00:11:31.41 is the first thing you say? 00:11:31.45\00:11:32.59 The first point that we lay down and go over each and 00:11:32.62\00:11:35.96 every day is a quote that says never forget that 00:11:36.00\00:11:38.99 thoughts workout actions, repeated actions form habits, 00:11:39.02\00:11:43.46 and habits form character. 00:11:43.50\00:11:45.04 So basically it works like this, never forget that your 00:11:45.08\00:11:47.92 thoughts, if you think something enough will become an 00:11:47.96\00:11:51.30 action, and once you act upon something enough times it 00:11:51.33\00:11:54.61 becomes a habit, and your habits altogether, all the habits that 00:11:54.64\00:11:57.89 you have in conglomeration or who you are, it's your character 00:11:57.93\00:12:01.15 What happens is generally we want to change our character 00:12:01.18\00:12:04.48 or we want to change our habits. 00:12:04.51\00:12:05.94 I'm a smoker and I don't like this so what do we do? 00:12:05.98\00:12:08.14 We try to quit the habit, or we have a bad character flaw. 00:12:08.17\00:12:11.85 Like I'm angry all the time, or I struggle with pornography 00:12:11.88\00:12:15.52 or something I lost. - could be laziness? 00:12:15.56\00:12:18.57 - yes it could be laziness so what you do is try 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.95 to change the habit or change the characteristic 00:12:20.99\00:12:23.30 the habit consists of. 00:12:23.34\00:12:24.80 The point is it's been want to change it you don't just 00:12:24.84\00:12:27.04 change the habit, you don't just change that action, it has 00:12:27.08\00:12:29.25 to go back to the thoughts. 00:12:29.29\00:12:30.42 If the thoughts are not changed the life is not going to 00:12:30.45\00:12:33.05 be changed, so never forget that thoughts workout 00:12:33.09\00:12:34.66 actions, repeated actions form habits and habits form 00:12:34.69\00:12:37.04 character so that is what happens basically. 00:12:37.07\00:12:39.32 It's like the snowball rolling down the hill and it starts 00:12:39.35\00:12:42.16 small up here you say I want to stop this great big ball 00:12:42.20\00:12:44.97 down here, well how do you do that? 00:12:45.01\00:12:46.56 You have to intercept up there okay so then I guess the 00:12:46.59\00:12:50.87 question is how does someone start forming correct thought 00:12:50.90\00:12:54.97 patterns? Because that sounds like that's the key to the 00:12:55.01\00:12:59.04 beginning this process of moral growth overcoming. 00:12:59.08\00:13:01.50 How does someone begin to rewire themselves for better thoughts? 00:13:01.54\00:13:04.85 Well we start looking into the brain and explain what 00:13:04.89\00:13:08.63 the brain does and how it works. 00:13:08.66\00:13:10.19 We talk a lot about the frontal lobe and the effects of 00:13:10.23\00:13:14.49 things that we do on the frontal lobe. 00:13:14.52\00:13:16.25 We talk about the importance of keeping the frontal lobe 00:13:16.29\00:13:19.95 healthy and strong and working. 00:13:19.99\00:13:22.64 In Revelation it talks about that God wants to put 00:13:22.68\00:13:27.85 His seal, His name in our forehead in Revelation and 00:13:27.88\00:13:33.02 He wants to put His seal in our foreheads. 00:13:33.05\00:13:34.78 what is behind your forehead is your frontal lobe right? 00:13:34.81\00:13:37.95 What's the name in the Bible? - character 00:13:37.99\00:13:41.85 character right so He wants to put the Father's name in 00:13:41.89\00:13:44.51 our forehead's and you can see the character thing in 00:13:44.55\00:13:47.14 the Bible like whenever somebody's character 00:13:47.17\00:13:50.19 changes their name changes. 00:13:50.22\00:13:51.84 Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, Jacob - Israel, 00:13:51.87\00:13:58.26 Saul became Paul and one that is really neat is Jacob. 00:13:58.29\00:14:03.93 I speak Aramaic and in our language the heel means Jacob 00:14:03.96\00:14:09.57 and so it is like you're grabbing the heel, 00:14:09.60\00:14:12.28 you're tripping somebody up, your a deceiver. 00:14:12.31\00:14:14.92 That was Jacob's character right but then what was his name 00:14:14.96\00:14:18.85 changed to? Israel right. What does Israel mean? 00:14:18.89\00:14:21.83 One who's wrestled with God, one who is an overcomer. 00:14:21.86\00:14:25.01 Right, exactly isn't that powerful an overcomer. 00:14:25.05\00:14:28.79 God says I want to change your character therefore 00:14:28.82\00:14:32.72 your name so we realize name and character are 00:14:32.76\00:14:36.62 synonymous in the Bible. 00:14:36.66\00:14:37.85 The significance here is that God puts His seal on our 00:14:37.88\00:14:41.67 forehead it doesn't literally mean your walking around with 00:14:41.71\00:14:45.10 some people think I've got the bar code on my head, but it's 00:14:45.13\00:14:49.09 that God has put His law, His character, who He is into us. 00:14:49.12\00:14:53.32 Specifically who, Jesus. The way Jesus walked and talked 00:14:53.36\00:14:56.75 on this earth, the way He felt, the way He dealt with 00:14:56.79\00:15:00.12 people, the way He dealt with the Pharisees and everybody. 00:15:00.15\00:15:03.31 He wants to put that same character into our minds. 00:15:03.34\00:15:06.51 Into our forehead's so that when we walk and talk and 00:15:06.55\00:15:09.76 interact with people we have that character in us and 00:15:09.79\00:15:12.97 we would make the same decisions He would. 00:15:13.00\00:15:14.89 I want to tease out something you said 00:15:14.92\00:15:16.52 a little bit more Fadia you talked about 00:15:16.55\00:15:18.08 keeping the frontal lobe, which is the fore part 00:15:18.12\00:15:20.52 of the brain healthy and strong. 00:15:20.56\00:15:22.33 Well if I'm going to keep my arms healthy and strong I do 00:15:22.37\00:15:25.69 push-ups, if I keep my legs healthy and strong I will run. 00:15:25.72\00:15:29.01 I'll do cycling. How do I, you see weren't going with 00:15:29.04\00:15:33.50 this, how do I keep my brain healthy and strong? 00:15:33.54\00:15:35.55 Do I try to wiggle my ears? 00:15:35.59\00:15:37.36 There are actually several things that need to take place. 00:15:37.40\00:15:41.07 We talk about we give the science behind how they 00:15:41.11\00:15:44.20 discovered that the frontal lobe is the seed of 00:15:44.23\00:15:47.25 spirituality and morality in the will that's what scientific 00:15:47.29\00:15:49.90 discoveries have shown. 00:15:49.93\00:15:51.15 The answer to this basically is there are several answers 00:15:51.18\00:15:53.70 on how to strengthen the frontal lobe. 00:15:53.74\00:15:55.17 One of them is good nutrition, having the right foods. 00:15:55.20\00:15:58.11 - you are what you eat? - exactly you are what you eat. 00:15:58.14\00:16:00.35 You want to make sure because there are certain foods 00:16:00.38\00:16:02.77 that are actually strengthening for the brain and 00:16:02.81\00:16:05.17 therefore if you strengthen the brain you're 00:16:05.20\00:16:07.15 strengthening your frontal lobe and you will make better 00:16:07.19\00:16:10.23 decisions and will have a better spiritual life. 00:16:10.26\00:16:12.27 So nutrition is one, there are many other things that 00:16:12.31\00:16:14.97 are simple like getting enough exercise. 00:16:15.00\00:16:17.06 Getting enough sunshine, getting fresh air, these 00:16:17.10\00:16:19.91 things all seen quite simple but sometimes, many times 00:16:19.95\00:16:23.74 we will discover people who are in depression that come to the 00:16:23.78\00:16:26.50 seminar, they do not get enough sunshine, they don't get 00:16:26.54\00:16:29.39 enough they are eating just refined foods all the time. 00:16:29.43\00:16:32.50 Foods not the way they were originally designed by the 00:16:32.54\00:16:35.78 Creator right? So getting closer to the way we were 00:16:35.82\00:16:38.79 designed to live is something that will literally 00:16:38.83\00:16:41.77 strengthen of the frontal lobe. 00:16:41.81\00:16:42.97 There's several different things from eating habits, exercise. 00:16:43.00\00:16:45.84 So what next say for myself, if I'm struggling with something 00:16:45.87\00:16:48.84 I eat pretty healthy, get lots of water, I get good sleep, 00:16:48.87\00:16:51.80 what's the next step? 00:16:51.84\00:16:53.03 Well one of the things we do to through the week is 00:16:53.07\00:16:57.16 we meet together every day of the program, consecutive 00:16:57.19\00:17:01.25 days, five consecutive days. 00:17:01.29\00:17:02.74 We make people go through a modified cleanse fast. 00:17:02.77\00:17:07.32 We find that biblical the fast and everything and it 00:17:07.35\00:17:11.83 actually cleanses the body -Can you tell us specifically what? 00:17:11.87\00:17:16.06 And what you do is the first day we just have you eat whole 00:17:16.09\00:17:21.17 fruits and you can have 100% juices and water, that's it. 00:17:21.21\00:17:25.52 So fruit, Juice, and water day number 1, - day number 1 00:17:25.56\00:17:29.84 Sounds like paradise to me. 00:17:29.87\00:17:31.03 So that is what we do and it is so cool because the next 00:17:31.06\00:17:33.96 day people are like oh man I don't know if I want to do 00:17:33.99\00:17:36.63 this. Next day the people come back, how do you feel? 00:17:36.67\00:17:39.28 Oh, I am surprised that I was able to do this. 00:17:39.31\00:17:42.42 So even that decision of them doing that is strengthening 00:17:42.46\00:17:45.79 the frontal lobe, you are making a decision and in a 00:17:45.83\00:17:48.35 group it is easier because everybody else is doing it. 00:17:48.38\00:17:50.86 So you're strengthening the will by doing that. 00:17:50.90\00:17:53.75 - positive reinforcement. - exactly. 00:17:53.78\00:17:55.74 So is the French fries and the cheeseburgers are the second 00:17:55.78\00:17:58.15 day? - no the second day we do veggies and greens. 00:17:58.18\00:18:04.55 You add them to the fruit and fruit juice. 00:18:04.59\00:18:07.18 Each day you are adding you are not just doing one thing. 00:18:07.21\00:18:11.75 So you add to it the veggies and those are good, in Eden 00:18:11.79\00:18:15.81 God gave Adam and Eve fruits, nuts and grains right? 00:18:15.85\00:18:19.65 But right when sin comes in what does He add to their 00:18:19.68\00:18:23.45 diet? -Vegetables! - vegetables right? 00:18:23.49\00:18:25.41 We realize that veggies have a lot of cleansing affects 00:18:25.44\00:18:29.48 on the blood, so God needed it to do that. 00:18:29.52\00:18:32.31 Sin came in and starting having its affects and God gave 00:18:32.35\00:18:34.98 us the cleansing agent so that is why it is good to have 00:18:35.01\00:18:37.61 the veggies, we could go into a lot of it but. 00:18:37.64\00:18:39.63 People are, many of the people that are coming to your 00:18:39.67\00:18:42.41 seminars I mean they are probably not eating well? 00:18:42.45\00:18:44.79 - no! - I heard as a statistic just the other day. 00:18:44.83\00:18:47.26 I was watching this amazing documentary, speaking of 00:18:47.29\00:18:51.02 documentaries, in which if you are under the age of 20. 00:18:51.05\00:18:54.75 If you were born after the year 2000 and you are a 00:18:54.78\00:18:58.17 minority, after the year 2000 you are a minority the 00:18:58.21\00:19:01.16 chances that you will end up with adult onset diabetes, 00:19:01.20\00:19:04.12 type 2 diabetes, one in two. - wow! 00:19:04.15\00:19:06.49 50 percent and for the whole population, in North America, 00:19:06.53\00:19:10.05 one in three. I mean the food that people are eating, 00:19:10.08\00:19:13.34 I'm just going to come right out and say it, some of the 00:19:13.37\00:19:16.38 food that maybe you are eating and certainly much of the 00:19:16.42\00:19:19.39 American and the industrialized nations is not even food. 00:19:19.43\00:19:22.82 We call it food and putting in packages 00:19:22.86\00:19:24.88 but it is not food. 00:19:24.91\00:19:27.20 Someone said to me one time if you have to open a 00:19:27.24\00:19:29.44 package to get to something, that is not as good as 00:19:29.48\00:19:31.65 something you don't have to open the package. 00:19:31.68\00:19:34.11 - that's good, that's good. 00:19:34.14\00:19:35.46 God packaged it for us. - yeah the bananas are 00:19:35.50\00:19:37.90 prepackaged and the oranges are prepackaged. 00:19:37.94\00:19:40.27 One thing I want to touch on very quickly just because in 00:19:40.30\00:19:43.33 our seminar we go a little deeper into the eating thing 00:19:43.36\00:19:46.52 with the cleanse and the fast because people who are 00:19:46.55\00:19:49.54 diabetic, it's good that you said diabetics and severe 00:19:49.58\00:19:52.89 drug addicts we have a different cleanse for them. 00:19:52.93\00:19:56.17 The other issue is that people who are diabetic if they 00:19:56.21\00:19:59.34 are just eating fruit and fruit juice they can have some 00:19:59.37\00:20:02.92 serious sugar issues and same severe alcoholic or drug 00:20:02.96\00:20:06.47 addicts, that is why in our seminar we go through 00:20:06.51\00:20:09.44 specifically what these people should be doing for that 00:20:09.47\00:20:12.53 particular week because he could be a shock to the system 00:20:12.56\00:20:15.58 of a severe alcoholic to all of a sudden. 00:20:15.62\00:20:17.78 - counterproductive. - that's right they need that 00:20:17.82\00:20:20.19 cleanse and detox but not too heavy on the body so there 00:20:20.23\00:20:24.23 is more to it than that but that is a simple beginnings 00:20:24.27\00:20:27.72 here. - so what else? We understand food we understand 00:20:27.76\00:20:31.18 the cleanse what else? 00:20:31.22\00:20:32.48 One of the things, the most important is that you can try 00:20:32.52\00:20:35.98 to just live a healthy life style by your actions, by the 00:20:36.01\00:20:39.60 things that you eat, exercise, sunlight, fresh air but 00:20:39.64\00:20:43.48 the reality is if you don't have the spiritual dimension 00:20:43.52\00:20:47.11 you really can't truly overcome on every aspect that 00:20:47.15\00:20:50.71 God is calling you to. 00:20:50.74\00:20:51.77 God him that overcomes, God wants us to make us ultimate 00:20:51.81\00:20:55.85 overcomers and we look at different verses, God gives 00:20:55.88\00:20:59.89 different promises throughout Scripture. 00:20:59.92\00:21:01.40 There is one that is found in 1 Corinthians 15:57, 58 00:21:01.43\00:21:05.39 and it says, "but thanks be to God which gives us the 00:21:05.43\00:21:08.34 victory." - so we don't have to do it on our own? 00:21:08.37\00:21:11.24 Exactly because sometimes we feel like that. 00:21:11.28\00:21:12.95 I'll get myself a little bit better and then I'll come 00:21:12.98\00:21:15.55 to the Lord, then I will give my life to Jesus I don't 00:21:15.59\00:21:17.93 want the church roof to cave in on me so I'll make myself 00:21:17.97\00:21:20.28 better and then I'll come to church. Right! 00:21:20.32\00:21:21.30 The reality is that it says there in 1 contains 15:57 00:21:21.34\00:21:25.19 that God is the one who actually gives us the victory. 00:21:25.22\00:21:28.32 We can't just do it, sure sometimes our own willpower 00:21:28.35\00:21:31.47 can help us overcome one area, but every single person 00:21:31.50\00:21:34.34 has something in their life that they cannot overcome on 00:21:34.37\00:21:37.74 their own. Take in the spiritual dimension promises and 00:21:37.77\00:21:41.11 on this subject many times people in Christianity 00:21:41.14\00:21:43.73 especially, they think this is terrible that I always 00:21:43.76\00:21:46.28 hear these testimonies of the guys in church who said I was 00:21:46.32\00:21:48.53 a crake addict and sleeping with whores and doing this and that 00:21:48.56\00:21:50.74 and I just said Jesus take it away and boom 00:21:50.78\00:21:52.95 I never had a struggle again. 00:21:52.99\00:21:55.07 It wasn't even an issue for me. 00:21:55.11\00:21:57.12 But that same person doesn't share with you that there 00:21:57.16\00:21:59.96 are some aspects of their life that they didn't find 00:21:59.99\00:22:02.62 victory the first time they prayed, we all have issues 00:22:02.65\00:22:05.25 that are deeper than just one single prayer. 00:22:05.28\00:22:07.88 So it is implementing all of these things through the 00:22:07.92\00:22:10.91 claiming promises that God gives and implementing the 00:22:10.95\00:22:13.71 health aspects, putting it together as a whole because 00:22:13.75\00:22:16.47 we are a whole being we're not just spiritual, not just 00:22:16.50\00:22:19.18 physical, we are multidimensional. 00:22:19.22\00:22:21.42 Putting all those things together gives us a clearer mind 00:22:21.46\00:22:24.79 to be able to make the right decisions to follow God. 00:22:24.82\00:22:27.89 So what I'm hearing you say Chad and is not to be 00:22:27.92\00:22:30.64 discouraged by the fact that it might not happen just 00:22:30.67\00:22:33.73 like that, that it is a work in progress and along with 00:22:33.77\00:22:36.79 Christ help we can be overcomers. 00:22:36.83\00:22:38.91 Well even going back to when you were telling your story 00:22:38.94\00:22:42.57 just briefly you were saying you were smoking, you were 00:22:42.60\00:22:45.39 chewing, you were smoking, you were chewing and if I 00:22:45.43\00:22:48.26 remember right the language used was God slowly gave me 00:22:48.29\00:22:50.61 the victory over that. It sounded like it was process. 00:22:50.65\00:22:53.26 Actually it was a process, I've tried Nicorette gum, 00:22:53.30\00:22:56.89 I tried cold turkey, I would drive down the road and would 00:22:56.92\00:22:59.60 crush my package of cigarettes and throw it out the 00:22:59.64\00:23:02.29 window, you shouldn't do that obviously 00:23:02.32\00:23:03.65 - you were littering. 00:23:03.68\00:23:05.38 I was trying to quit so I'd do that and then I would go 00:23:05.42\00:23:07.97 by another pack that very evening, or the next morning 00:23:08.00\00:23:10.52 or whatever it was. 00:23:10.56\00:23:11.59 But it wasn't until actually I was going to your seminar 00:23:11.63\00:23:15.13 in Grand Rapids in the year 2000 and you read a verse 00:23:15.16\00:23:18.87 from 1-Corinthians and what it says in 1 Corinthians 3 is 00:23:18.91\00:23:23.12 that our body is the temple of God, our body is to be the 00:23:23.15\00:23:26.10 temple of the Holy Spirit and He wants to live in us. 00:23:26.13\00:23:29.22 But he goes on to say, if you destroy your temple, 00:23:29.25\00:23:32.30 His temple, He's going to destroy you. 00:23:32.33\00:23:35.27 When I heard that - very serious verse - very serious. 00:23:35.31\00:23:37.88 And we think that sounds old testament almost, but no 00:23:37.92\00:23:40.13 that is a New Testament verse where God is saying listen 00:23:40.16\00:23:42.75 you better take this seriously because your body is to be 00:23:42.79\00:23:45.75 My home, My church is to be My home and I want to dwell 00:23:45.79\00:23:48.89 in you, so once I heard that the Lord actually gave 00:23:48.93\00:23:51.96 me victory that night. 00:23:51.99\00:23:52.97 I never chewed, I had chew with me at the time. 00:23:53.00\00:23:54.50 The Lord gave me victory at that point but I struggled for 00:23:54.54\00:23:57.51 a long time until that day. 00:23:57.55\00:23:58.72 So spiritual component, it reminds me of 1 John 5: 4, 5 00:23:58.75\00:24:03.16 you probably use this passage in your seminar but I love 00:24:03.20\00:24:07.58 it, the word overcome comes up three times. 00:24:07.61\00:24:10.42 "He says for whatever is born of God overcomes the world." 00:24:10.45\00:24:13.61 So there's the born-again experience, "and this is the 00:24:13.65\00:24:16.99 "victory that overcomes the world our faith. Who is he 00:24:17.02\00:24:19.58 "that overcomes the world but he that believes that 00:24:19.62\00:24:22.25 "Jesus is the son of God." So in each of these passages 00:24:22.28\00:24:25.27 in each of these verses here overcoming is linked to 00:24:25.30\00:24:29.02 believing in Jesus Christ's and having faith in Him. 00:24:29.06\00:24:32.74 It's our faith that overcomes the world. 00:24:32.77\00:24:34.63 So you have the physical component and we have the 00:24:34.66\00:24:37.05 emotional component, you want to change, but at some point 00:24:37.09\00:24:40.06 Jesus is the one that gives us the power and I love the 00:24:40.10\00:24:43.03 language you use there about how everybody has something 00:24:43.07\00:24:46.44 that they cannot get the victory over. - that's right! 00:24:46.48\00:24:50.83 And on that specific subject Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:9 00:24:50.87\00:24:54.12 through 11 I think there is some of the scariest verses in 00:24:54.16\00:24:57.34 the Bible and at the same time the most hopeful verses in 00:24:57.37\00:25:00.17 the Bible because what Paul does to make it simple is he 00:25:00.20\00:25:02.96 lists a bunch of sins from adultery, fortification, 00:25:03.00\00:25:06.68 adultery, homosexuality, and he lists a bunch of sins and 00:25:06.71\00:25:10.47 he basically says those who are living in this lifestyle 00:25:10.50\00:25:13.52 cannot enter into the kingdom of God which is scary. 00:25:13.56\00:25:16.34 Probably every one of us could find some area of our 00:25:16.38\00:25:19.50 lives that we have been in those categories, but then 00:25:19.53\00:25:22.21 it's says right after that Paul looks at the Church of 00:25:22.24\00:25:25.52 Corinth back then and says this is the way you used to be. 00:25:25.56\00:25:28.56 He says and such some of you were, he was looking at the 00:25:28.60\00:25:31.53 church and said you used to be homosexuals, you'd used to be an 00:25:31.56\00:25:35.02 alcoholic, you used to be an idolater, or an adulterer. 00:25:35.05\00:25:37.87 But he says God has s giving you victory and no matter 00:25:37.91\00:25:41.34 what we have, we have had the opportunity of talking with 00:25:41.38\00:25:44.71 homosexuals in our ministry. - we have had some on this 00:25:44.75\00:25:48.73 very show and we quoted that verse 1 Corinthians 6:9. 00:25:48.77\00:25:52.03 I mean this was the verse that was the cornerstone of the 00:25:52.06\00:25:55.28 whole thing, such were some of you. 00:25:55.32\00:25:57.80 And just very quickly she actually, one of them went 00:25:57.83\00:26:01.47 back to tell her formally gay friends I no longer 00:26:01.51\00:26:05.37 identify as gay and that was after 20 years in the 00:26:05.40\00:26:09.19 homosexual community and lifestyle, so Paul is writing to 00:26:09.23\00:26:11.34 those kinds of people. It's a miracle. 00:26:11.37\00:26:12.65 It is not that you are, but that's where you're going, 00:26:12.69\00:26:14.79 it's not what you are but it's what you were. 00:26:14.83\00:26:16.72 - exactly. - so continue on there. 00:26:16.76\00:26:20.11 That passage to me and the reason I say it is one of the 00:26:20.15\00:26:23.71 scariest verses is because of the fact that each of us 00:26:23.75\00:26:27.28 can find things there and you are living in this 00:26:27.32\00:26:29.55 lifestyle now and I want to clarify that there is a 00:26:29.59\00:26:31.76 difference between stumbling into sin and living in sin. 00:26:31.79\00:26:35.56 In a living in sin is like somebody every once in while 00:26:35.60\00:26:39.02 stumbles into anger, they get angry and they realize they 00:26:39.06\00:26:42.45 blew up and should have and they repent. 00:26:42.48\00:26:44.19 It's another thing to just live angry all the time. 00:26:44.22\00:26:47.19 On the issue of forgiveness, when we do a whole day in 00:26:47.22\00:26:49.94 the Overcoming Seminar, I just want to throw out the 00:26:49.97\00:26:52.26 website just in case anybody wants to know about it. 00:26:52.30\00:26:54.56 Its anchorpointfilms.com, anchorpointfilms.com 00:26:54.59\00:26:57.65 - so they can learn more about your ministries. 00:26:57.68\00:27:00.71 A perfect verse to go with that stumbling in the repeated 00:27:00.74\00:27:04.19 stumbling we go through is Proverbs 24:16 and it says, 00:27:04.22\00:27:08.55 "a righteous man falls seven times but rises up again." 00:27:08.58\00:27:12.32 A beautiful verse for overcoming and looking to Jesus. 00:27:12.35\00:27:15.54 - I tell you I love that verse Fadia, I use that verse 00:27:15.58\00:27:18.40 all the time in my own personal ministry and in my 00:27:18.43\00:27:20.78 preaching that a righteous man falls seven times 00:27:20.81\00:27:23.12 but rises up again. 00:27:23.16\00:27:24.13 Thank you so much Chad and Fadia for having been with us today 00:27:24.14\00:27:28.48 and thank you our viewers at home for tuning in. 00:27:28.52\00:27:32.14 This is a very inspirational and instructive program 00:27:32.17\00:27:35.80 as well, a lot of practical things so please send us an 00:27:35.84\00:27:38.47 e- mail so that you can get in contact will Shandra or 00:27:38.50\00:27:41.22 myself here or with Chad and Fadia or any of our guests 00:27:41.26\00:27:45.16 and send us an e-mail at Engage@3ABN.org or you can find 00:27:45.19\00:27:49.06 us on Face Book just do a search for Engage. 00:27:49.09\00:27:51.55 Just one final promise to leave our viewers with today 00:27:51.59\00:27:54.25 David is the words of Jesus where it says "in the world 00:27:54.28\00:27:56.91 "you will have tribulations but be of good cheer 00:27:56.94\00:27:59.48 "I have overcome the world." 00:27:59.51\00:28:01.72
