Jesus. 00:01:43.40\00:01:44.73 Fulfilled prophecy like that 00:01:44.77\00:01:46.47 gives us so much hope and trust 00:01:46.50\00:01:48.50 that Jesus is who the Bible says He is. 00:01:48.54\00:01:51.97 Bible prophecy has never been shown to be wrong. 00:01:52.01\00:01:55.48 Sometimes false prophets and false teachers twist 00:01:55.51\00:01:59.05 what the Bible says. 00:01:59.08\00:02:00.68 False teachers say the commandments of God 00:02:00.72\00:02:03.12 don't matter anymore. 00:02:03.15\00:02:04.55 Some say the seventh day is no longer the Sabbath, 00:02:04.59\00:02:07.76 and that Sunday is the new Sabbath. 00:02:07.79\00:02:10.39 But let's see what the Bible says about such people. 00:02:10.43\00:02:13.53 Tamia, would you like to get our gemstone 00:02:13.56\00:02:15.40 from the jewel box? 00:02:15.43\00:02:16.77 Wow, look at that one. 00:02:20.70\00:02:22.20 What is the Bible reference? 00:02:22.24\00:02:24.11 Isaiah 8:20. 00:02:24.14\00:02:25.94 Thank you. 00:02:25.97\00:02:27.31 Amber, could you read that? 00:02:27.34\00:02:28.68 Sure. 00:02:28.71\00:02:30.58 "To the law and to the testimony, 00:02:30.61\00:02:32.41 if they do not speak according to this word, 00:02:32.45\00:02:34.52 it is because there is no light in them." 00:02:34.55\00:02:37.02 Thanks, Amber. 00:02:37.05\00:02:38.82 This Bible gem tells us 00:02:38.85\00:02:40.52 that if anyone claims to speak for God 00:02:40.56\00:02:42.86 and says anything different from what the Bible says, 00:02:42.89\00:02:45.69 you know that they're not telling the truth. 00:02:45.73\00:02:48.10 Some people say the Bible can't be understood. 00:02:48.13\00:02:50.97 They say that Bible prophecy can mean many different things, 00:02:51.00\00:02:54.34 but we've been learning that true meaning 00:02:54.37\00:02:56.30 of some very important prophecies 00:02:56.34\00:02:58.24 that affect our lives. 00:02:58.27\00:03:00.31 Prophecy can be understood by anyone 00:03:00.34\00:03:03.04 who carefully and prayerfully studies the scriptures. 00:03:03.08\00:03:06.68 Isaiah 28:10 promises 00:03:06.72\00:03:09.52 we will understand the Bible including Bible prophecy 00:03:09.55\00:03:12.95 if we can pair one passage of scripture with another. 00:03:12.99\00:03:16.59 Here a little, there a little. 00:03:16.62\00:03:18.49 Messages through God's prophets are given to encourage us. 00:03:18.53\00:03:22.03 Later in our Bible study, 00:03:22.06\00:03:23.87 we'll learn about two prophets Haggai and Zachariah, 00:03:23.90\00:03:27.84 who were sent by God to the Jews 00:03:27.87\00:03:29.84 who returned to build Jerusalem and its temple. 00:03:29.87\00:03:33.21 Their prophecies encourage the people 00:03:33.24\00:03:35.51 and help them get on the job of rebuilding. 00:03:35.54\00:03:38.91 Let's see what the clue is 00:03:38.95\00:03:40.55 in our jewel box for the prophecy. 00:03:40.58\00:03:42.52 Tamia, can you have a look? 00:03:42.55\00:03:45.89 The true prophets always agree with the Bible. 00:03:45.92\00:03:48.96 Thanks, Tamia. 00:03:48.99\00:03:50.33 So remember, that's one very important way 00:03:50.36\00:03:53.16 you can tell the difference between true and false prophets 00:03:53.19\00:03:56.56 and false teachers. 00:03:56.60\00:03:57.93 In addition, fulfilled prophecy proves 00:03:57.97\00:04:00.44 that God's word is always true. 00:04:00.47\00:04:02.74 That means we can be certain about the prophecies 00:04:02.77\00:04:05.67 that tell us that Jesus is coming back soon 00:04:05.71\00:04:08.31 and that sin and sadness will be taken away forever. 00:04:08.34\00:04:11.71 Thanks, Aunty Leah, 00:04:11.75\00:04:13.08 I hope that I never get deceived. 00:04:13.11\00:04:15.02 Jesus promises us that we can know the truth, 00:04:15.05\00:04:18.02 He'll protect us from ever being deceived. 00:04:18.05\00:04:20.86 Uncle Daniel, 00:04:20.89\00:04:22.26 Braedan is here to sing with us. 00:04:22.29\00:04:24.96 That's great. 00:04:24.99\00:04:26.33 Welcome back, Braedan, 00:04:26.36\00:04:27.70 we appreciate you 00:04:27.73\00:04:29.10 sharing your musical talents with us. 00:04:29.13\00:04:31.23 Hello everyone. 00:04:31.27\00:04:32.60 Let's start our singing today with a scripture song 00:04:32.63\00:04:35.50 "By My Spirit." 00:04:35.54\00:04:36.87 Not by might, no, not by power 00:04:41.44\00:04:45.41 But by my spirit says the Lord to me 00:04:45.45\00:04:49.85 Not by might, no, not by power 00:04:49.88\00:04:53.86 But by my spirit you'll have victory 00:04:53.89\00:04:59.66 Not by might, no, not by power 00:04:59.69\00:05:03.57 But by my spirit says the Lord to me 00:05:03.60\00:05:08.00 Not by might, no, not by power 00:05:08.04\00:05:12.01 But by my spirit you'll have victory 00:05:12.04\00:05:18.05 Braedan, 00:05:18.08\00:05:19.41 can we sing the "Seventh day is Sabbath of the Lord?" 00:05:19.45\00:05:21.78 That's a great choice. 00:05:21.82\00:05:23.35 I really, really enjoy the Sabbath. 00:05:23.39\00:05:25.59 It's a time that we can remember 00:05:25.62\00:05:26.96 what Jesus has done for us. 00:05:26.99\00:05:28.32 Let's sing it together. 00:05:28.36\00:05:29.69 One, two, three, four, five, six days a week 00:05:34.76\00:05:39.13 God gave to us for work and play 00:05:39.17\00:05:43.34 One, two, three, four, five, six days He made 00:05:43.37\00:05:47.48 Then rested on the seventh day 00:05:47.51\00:05:51.21 God invites us all to join Him On the seventh day of rest 00:05:51.25\00:05:55.68 For he called that day the Sabbath 00:05:55.72\00:05:57.92 And He promised we'd be blessed 00:05:57.95\00:06:00.26 One, two, three, four, five, six days for us 00:06:00.29\00:06:04.26 The seventh is the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:06:04.29\00:06:06.90 Amen! 00:06:06.93\00:06:09.56 Braedan, can we sing "I am so happy?" 00:06:09.60\00:06:12.27 That is a fantastic song. 00:06:12.30\00:06:13.64 Let's sing it together. 00:06:13.67\00:06:15.00 I'm so happy and here's the reason why 00:06:22.58\00:06:26.78 Jesus took my burden away 00:06:26.82\00:06:30.82 Now I'm singing as the days go by 00:06:30.85\00:06:34.92 Jesus took my burden all away 00:06:34.96\00:06:39.06 Once my heart was heavy with a load of sin 00:06:39.09\00:06:43.16 Jesus took the load and gave me peace within 00:06:43.20\00:06:47.34 Now I'm singing as the days go by 00:06:47.37\00:06:51.31 Jesus took my burden all away 00:06:51.34\00:06:56.14 Thanks, Braedan. 00:06:56.18\00:06:57.51 I enjoy learning Bible verses and songs. 00:06:57.55\00:07:00.85 It's time for us to listen to another exciting story 00:07:00.88\00:07:03.65 of Dr. John. 00:07:03.69\00:07:05.02 Hello, boys and girls, 00:07:05.05\00:07:06.39 I'm so glad to be here with you again. 00:07:06.42\00:07:08.26 I'm Dr. John and hello to all the boys and girls 00:07:08.29\00:07:11.19 right around the world. 00:07:11.23\00:07:13.29 You know, I heard the story last Sabbath, 00:07:13.33\00:07:15.66 it was told by Pastor Dwight Nelson 00:07:15.70\00:07:18.43 and I was fascinated. 00:07:18.47\00:07:21.14 He told a story of a man 00:07:21.17\00:07:22.67 who didn't have very much money, 00:07:22.70\00:07:25.51 he didn't have a watch, and he went into a junk shop 00:07:25.54\00:07:29.78 and there was a box full of old watches dirty. 00:07:29.81\00:07:35.12 He finally saw one that didn't even have a watch band. 00:07:35.15\00:07:39.59 Picked it up and he looked at it and said, 00:07:39.62\00:07:41.72 how much? 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.32 599. 00:07:43.36\00:07:46.56 Okay, does it work? 00:07:46.59\00:07:48.93 Yeah. 00:07:48.96\00:07:50.73 He had to buy a watch band, 00:07:50.77\00:07:52.10 and he bought it and he walked out 00:07:52.13\00:07:53.74 and he looked at it and he said, 00:07:53.77\00:07:55.64 I've never seen that brand before. 00:07:55.67\00:07:58.11 It's called Jaeger-LeCoultre. 00:07:58.14\00:08:01.61 So he took it to a jeweler and he said, 00:08:01.64\00:08:05.51 can you tell me is this watch worth anything? 00:08:05.55\00:08:11.22 Jaeger-LeCoultre, 00:08:11.25\00:08:13.66 I'll buy from him. 00:08:13.69\00:08:15.69 How much? 00:08:15.72\00:08:17.16 He thought maybe $10 maybe 20, maybe $100. 00:08:17.19\00:08:21.06 He nearly fell over when the jeweler said 00:08:21.10\00:08:24.03 I will give you 00:08:24.07\00:08:25.90 $35,000 for your watch. 00:08:25.93\00:08:32.37 He went in a poor man and he came out a rich man 00:08:32.41\00:08:35.84 and when I heard that story, I thought I've got a box 00:08:35.88\00:08:40.02 and the top of my covered 00:08:40.05\00:08:42.18 and it's got a pile of old watches in it. 00:08:42.22\00:08:45.25 And I brought the box along. 00:08:45.29\00:08:48.72 And there are some smart looking watches 00:08:48.76\00:08:53.60 and there are some 00:08:53.63\00:08:55.83 rather un-smart looking watches and some old watches 00:08:55.86\00:09:01.10 and some work and some don't. 00:09:01.14\00:09:06.34 And there's such a pile of them 00:09:06.37\00:09:10.75 and then I saw one at the bottom, 00:09:10.78\00:09:13.31 I picked it up 00:09:13.35\00:09:16.32 and I looked at it, 00:09:16.35\00:09:18.75 let me tell you the brand 00:09:18.79\00:09:21.96 Jaeger-LeCoultre. 00:09:21.99\00:09:25.16 Well, I got on the internet and I start to look it up. 00:09:25.19\00:09:30.73 This is a very special watch, 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.93 because it used to belong to my father. 00:09:32.97\00:09:36.37 And it had a very special feature, 00:09:36.40\00:09:40.01 it has an alarm that rings 00:09:40.04\00:09:43.18 and so when you wind up the alarm 00:09:43.21\00:09:45.21 and you twist it around, it'll make a noise. 00:09:45.25\00:09:50.52 And then I thought just a little noise 00:09:50.55\00:09:53.76 because the watch is a bit old. 00:09:53.79\00:09:55.99 So I got on the internet. 00:09:56.02\00:09:58.19 I wanted to find out 00:09:58.23\00:09:59.56 how much my Jaeger-LeCoultre was worth. 00:09:59.59\00:10:03.97 It wasn't worth $35,000, 00:10:04.00\00:10:09.70 but it is worth $26,000. 00:10:09.74\00:10:15.34 Do you think I'm going to sell it? 00:10:15.38\00:10:17.91 Because it belonged to my daddy 00:10:17.95\00:10:20.38 and he's been dead for many years now, 00:10:20.42\00:10:23.18 I knew it was a Jaeger 00:10:23.22\00:10:25.19 and I knew it was quite valuable, 00:10:25.22\00:10:27.36 but I never thought it was as valuable as that. 00:10:27.39\00:10:32.16 And so we often have things that we just got, 00:10:32.19\00:10:37.60 and you are studying your Bibles 00:10:37.63\00:10:42.07 and you are studying the Book of Daniel. 00:10:42.10\00:10:44.67 Let me tell you something about the Book of Daniel. 00:10:44.71\00:10:47.58 The Book of Daniel, 00:10:47.61\00:10:49.74 people think of it and they say, ah, yes, 00:10:49.78\00:10:53.01 he was the guy that was in the lions' den 00:10:53.05\00:10:57.02 and the lion shut their mouths 00:10:57.05\00:10:59.99 and some to do with a big statue 00:11:00.02\00:11:02.42 and a fiery furnace, 00:11:02.46\00:11:04.89 but it's so difficult to understand. 00:11:04.93\00:11:06.80 In fact, a lot of church leaders said, 00:11:06.83\00:11:10.03 "Don't bother with the Book of Daniel. 00:11:10.07\00:11:14.20 It is so old 00:11:14.24\00:11:16.00 and so not relevant to what happens today." 00:11:16.04\00:11:21.78 But it is, 00:11:21.81\00:11:23.45 the Book of Daniel 00:11:23.48\00:11:25.01 is one of the greatest treasures 00:11:25.05\00:11:27.42 because it forecasts the future. 00:11:27.45\00:11:31.69 If you think I'm wearing a valuable watch, 00:11:31.72\00:11:34.42 it is nothing compared to the Book of Daniel 00:11:34.46\00:11:39.83 and you as boys and girls, 00:11:39.86\00:11:42.06 lot of people say you're not worth much, 00:11:42.10\00:11:44.60 you're just a kid, who're you, 00:11:44.63\00:11:47.54 but God knows how valuable you are. 00:11:47.57\00:11:50.54 He loves you. Thank you, Bethany. 00:11:59.28\00:12:01.72 Dear, God, please help us to understand 00:12:01.75\00:12:03.69 what we read today. 00:12:03.72\00:12:05.05 And please bless the children at home 00:12:05.09\00:12:06.45 who have joined us in our Bible study. 00:12:06.49\00:12:08.42 In Jesus' name, amen. 00:12:08.46\00:12:10.59 Amen. 00:12:10.63\00:12:11.96 Do you remember 00:12:11.99\00:12:13.33 Jeremiah's prophecy about 70 years of captivity 00:12:13.36\00:12:15.93 because of Israelite's rebellion? 00:12:15.96\00:12:18.93 Daniel had been studying these prophecies and he knew 00:12:18.97\00:12:22.40 that the 70 years of captivity were nearly up. 00:12:22.44\00:12:26.11 Let's read Jeremiah 29:10-14, 00:12:26.14\00:12:30.01 and we'll start with Bethany. 00:12:30.05\00:12:33.85 "For thus says the Lord: 00:12:33.88\00:12:35.22 After seventy years are completed at Babylon, 00:12:35.25\00:12:37.49 I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, 00:12:37.52\00:12:40.09 and cause you to return to this place." 00:12:40.12\00:12:42.99 And verses 11 and 12, Caleb. 00:12:43.02\00:12:45.79 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, 00:12:45.83\00:12:48.53 says the Lord, 00:12:48.56\00:12:49.90 thoughts of peace and not of evil, 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.17 and give you a future and a hope. 00:12:52.20\00:12:55.07 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, 00:12:55.10\00:12:59.47 and I will listen to you." 00:12:59.51\00:13:01.48 And verse 13 is a beautiful verse, 00:13:01.51\00:13:04.41 a verse that we should all know by heart. 00:13:04.45\00:13:06.41 So let's say together as our memory verse. 00:13:06.45\00:13:09.65 "And you will seek Me and find Me, 00:13:09.68\00:13:13.22 when you search for Me with all your heart." 00:13:13.25\00:13:16.89 Amen. 00:13:16.93\00:13:18.26 And if the people seek God will He deliver them? 00:13:18.29\00:13:21.40 Well, let's take a look in verse 14. 00:13:21.43\00:13:23.67 Thanks, Jireh. 00:13:23.70\00:13:26.27 "I will be found by you, says the Lord, 00:13:26.30\00:13:28.20 and I will bring you back from your captivity, 00:13:28.24\00:13:31.17 I will gather you from all the nations 00:13:31.21\00:13:33.94 and from all the places where I have driven you, 00:13:33.98\00:13:36.51 says the Lord, 00:13:36.54\00:13:37.88 and I will bring you to the place 00:13:37.91\00:13:41.32 from which I cause you to be carried away captive." 00:13:41.35\00:13:46.72 This prophecy gave Daniel 00:13:46.76\00:13:48.82 and other faithful Israelites in captivity 00:13:48.86\00:13:51.33 great hope for a better future. 00:13:51.36\00:13:53.73 It also prompted Daniel to earnestly seek God in prayer 00:13:53.76\00:13:57.60 as we learned in Daniel Chapter 9. 00:13:57.63\00:14:00.57 The Prophet Isaiah also foretold 00:14:00.60\00:14:03.07 how God would free the captives. 00:14:03.10\00:14:05.47 Cyrus took over the throne after the death of King Darius. 00:14:05.51\00:14:09.98 Mrs. White says 00:14:10.01\00:14:11.35 that the deliverance of Daniel from the den of lions 00:14:11.38\00:14:14.28 had been used of God to create a favorable impression 00:14:14.32\00:14:17.45 upon the mind of Cyrus the Great. 00:14:17.49\00:14:20.02 Daniel showed King Cyrus Isaiah's prophecy 00:14:20.06\00:14:23.32 written more than 100 years before Cyrus was born. 00:14:23.36\00:14:27.10 Isaiah accurately foretold how Cyrus would conquer Babylon 00:14:27.13\00:14:31.43 right down to the detail about the gates being left open. 00:14:31.47\00:14:35.47 Cyrus was deeply impressed 00:14:35.50\00:14:37.91 and wanted to cooperate with God. 00:14:37.94\00:14:40.44 Let's read some of what Daniel said to Cyrus 00:14:40.48\00:14:44.25 in Isaiah 44:28, 00:14:44.28\00:14:47.45 can you read that for us, Chemiah? 00:14:47.48\00:14:49.15 "Who says of Cyrus, 00:14:49.18\00:14:50.79 'He is My shepherd, 00:14:50.82\00:14:52.19 and he shall perform all My pleasure, 00:14:52.22\00:14:55.09 Saying to Jerusalem, 00:14:55.12\00:14:56.46 'You shall be built and to the temple, 00:14:56.49\00:14:58.83 Your foundation shall be laid.'" 00:14:58.86\00:15:01.56 Thanks, Chemiah. 00:15:01.60\00:15:02.96 Ezra 1:2-4, tells us 00:15:03.00\00:15:05.63 King Cyrus made a decree to free all the Israelites 00:15:05.67\00:15:09.20 so they could voluntarily return to Jerusalem 00:15:09.24\00:15:12.21 and rebuild the temple. 00:15:12.24\00:15:13.98 He also decreed that everyone left behind 00:15:14.01\00:15:16.75 help with donations to aid those returning. 00:15:16.78\00:15:19.75 Jeremiah, can you please read verse 4? 00:15:19.78\00:15:24.65 "And whoever is left in any place where he dwells, 00:15:24.69\00:15:27.99 let the men of his place help him with silver and gold, 00:15:28.02\00:15:31.36 with goods and livestock, 00:15:31.39\00:15:33.09 besides the freewill offerings for the house of God 00:15:33.13\00:15:36.00 which is in Jerusalem." 00:15:36.03\00:15:37.83 What rejoicing there was 00:15:37.87\00:15:39.60 when the Jewish captives heard about this decree, 00:15:39.63\00:15:43.10 people offered the returning exiles 00:15:43.14\00:15:45.51 gold, silver, articles and livestock 00:15:45.54\00:15:48.61 and the king returned all the thousands of articles 00:15:48.64\00:15:51.91 that King Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple 00:15:51.95\00:15:54.88 in Jerusalem 70 years earlier. 00:15:54.92\00:15:57.85 About 50,000 people took the long journey 00:15:57.89\00:16:00.89 back to their homeland, led by Zerubbabel, 00:16:00.92\00:16:03.83 a man from Judas royal bloodline. 00:16:03.86\00:16:06.53 Joshua, the high priest, accompanied Zerubbabel, 00:16:06.56\00:16:10.40 together these men took charge of the physical 00:16:10.43\00:16:13.30 and spiritual needs of the people. 00:16:13.34\00:16:15.84 Aunty Leah, can you show us on the map 00:16:15.87\00:16:18.01 the journey that they took. 00:16:18.04\00:16:22.78 See, they had to take the long path 00:16:22.81\00:16:25.95 because it was close to water. 00:16:25.98\00:16:29.12 When they arrived, Jerusalem lay in ruins. 00:16:29.15\00:16:33.62 The seemingly impossible task of rebuilding the temple 00:16:33.66\00:16:37.03 and the broken city walls lay ahead, 00:16:37.06\00:16:39.63 but they made a start, 00:16:39.66\00:16:41.56 Satan stood up 00:16:41.60\00:16:42.93 lots of opposition from the people 00:16:42.96\00:16:45.00 in the surrounding district. 00:16:45.03\00:16:46.84 They tried to stop the rebuilding of the temple 00:16:46.87\00:16:49.70 for a time the work of rebuilding ground to a halt. 00:16:49.74\00:16:53.54 People spend time building their own houses instead, 00:16:53.58\00:16:57.45 but God was watching over everything. 00:16:57.48\00:17:00.12 He sent two prophets Haggai and Zachariah 00:17:00.15\00:17:03.28 to encourage Joshua, Zerubbabel and the people. 00:17:03.32\00:17:06.89 God promised He would help them, 00:17:06.92\00:17:08.79 He told them to keep working and not become discouraged 00:17:08.82\00:17:11.99 or give up because of all the difficulties. 00:17:12.03\00:17:15.13 God sent a special reminder that success would be achieved 00:17:15.16\00:17:19.67 only through God's power not by man strength alone. 00:17:19.70\00:17:23.87 Let's read Zechariah 4:6, the second part together. 00:17:23.91\00:17:30.68 "Not by might nor by power, 00:17:30.71\00:17:33.72 but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts." 00:17:33.75\00:17:37.89 We know this important verse from the song we sang earlier, 00:17:37.92\00:17:40.89 don't we? 00:17:40.92\00:17:42.69 God had more encouraging words for Zerubbabel. 00:17:42.72\00:17:45.93 Sai, could you please read that in Zechariah 4:7. 00:17:45.96\00:17:50.50 "Who are you, O Great Mountain? 00:17:50.53\00:17:52.77 Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. 00:17:52.80\00:17:56.30 And he shall bring forth the capstone 00:17:56.34\00:18:00.18 with shouts of grace, grace to it." 00:18:00.21\00:18:03.78 The capstone was the most important stone in the building 00:18:03.81\00:18:07.62 signifying its completion. 00:18:07.65\00:18:10.39 God was promising Zerubbabel 00:18:10.42\00:18:12.35 that he would overcome the difficulties 00:18:12.39\00:18:14.59 and finish the building as he faithfully continued 00:18:14.62\00:18:17.86 to work on rebuilding the temple. 00:18:17.89\00:18:20.20 Just as God told Zerubbabel 00:18:20.23\00:18:21.96 that he would make the mountains 00:18:22.00\00:18:24.03 of difficulties disappear. 00:18:24.07\00:18:26.13 This promise is for us too 00:18:26.17\00:18:28.60 if we trust in God and faithfully do the work 00:18:28.64\00:18:31.61 He has given us to do day by day, 00:18:31.64\00:18:33.98 He promises us success. 00:18:34.01\00:18:36.61 God also encouraged Joshua, the high priest 00:18:36.64\00:18:39.95 through a vision given to Zechariah 00:18:39.98\00:18:41.85 God rebuke Satan's opposition to Joshua's work 00:18:41.88\00:18:44.82 of ministering to the people's spiritual needs 00:18:44.85\00:18:47.72 and teaching God's commandments 00:18:47.76\00:18:50.03 but God's blessing was conditional 00:18:50.06\00:18:52.56 on Joshua's obedience. 00:18:52.59\00:18:54.50 Aunty Leah, could you please read 00:18:54.53\00:18:56.20 the first part of Zechariah 3:7? 00:18:56.23\00:18:58.70 Sure. 00:18:58.73\00:19:00.30 "If you will walk in My ways 00:19:00.34\00:19:02.00 and if you will keep My command, 00:19:02.04\00:19:04.07 then you shall also judge My house." 00:19:04.11\00:19:06.61 The condition of success is always obedience, isn't it? 00:19:06.64\00:19:10.41 And God will always answer our sincere prayers 00:19:10.45\00:19:12.95 for the strength and courage to obey His commands. 00:19:12.98\00:19:16.52 God took care of the mountains of difficulties, 00:19:16.55\00:19:19.45 like the opposition to rebuilding the temple. 00:19:19.49\00:19:22.32 Leaders from the neighboring nations 00:19:22.36\00:19:24.16 sent a report back to King Darius, 00:19:24.19\00:19:26.39 Hystaspes the ruling king at the time. 00:19:26.43\00:19:29.73 They hoped he'd stop the work, 00:19:29.76\00:19:32.10 the king ordered a search for King Cyrus's decree. 00:19:32.13\00:19:35.80 When he read it, he made another decree 00:19:35.84\00:19:38.44 confirming King Cyrus's decree 00:19:38.47\00:19:40.81 and provided additional money 00:19:40.84\00:19:43.01 and resources to help finish the temple. 00:19:43.04\00:19:45.75 Isn't God generous and so encouraging? 00:19:45.78\00:19:48.58 The mountain became a plain just as God had said. 00:19:48.62\00:19:52.65 Now, Ezra 6:14, tells us how much these prophecies 00:19:52.69\00:19:57.49 encourage the people. 00:19:57.53\00:19:59.19 Can you please read that for us, Bethany? 00:19:59.23\00:20:02.76 "So the elders of the Jews built, 00:20:02.80\00:20:04.57 and they prospered through the prophesying 00:20:04.60\00:20:08.37 of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. 00:20:08.40\00:20:11.51 And they built and finished it 00:20:11.54\00:20:12.87 according to the commandment of the God of Israel, 00:20:12.91\00:20:15.44 and according to the command of Cyrus, 00:20:15.48\00:20:17.48 Darius, and Artaxerxes, King of Persia." 00:20:17.51\00:20:20.45 They had a big celebration 00:20:20.48\00:20:22.22 to dedicate the newly rebuilt temple. 00:20:22.25\00:20:25.09 Many were joyful but some of the old people 00:20:25.12\00:20:28.36 who lived in Jerusalem before the captivity, 00:20:28.39\00:20:30.86 cried bitterly 00:20:30.89\00:20:32.33 because the new temple was nothing 00:20:32.36\00:20:34.23 compared to the glory of the temple 00:20:34.26\00:20:36.30 that King Solomon built, 00:20:36.33\00:20:38.27 nor could they understand Haggai's prophecy. 00:20:38.30\00:20:41.10 Caleb, could you please read what God told the people 00:20:41.14\00:20:44.04 in Haggai 2:9? 00:20:44.07\00:20:46.31 Sure. 00:20:46.34\00:20:47.84 "The glory of this latter 00:20:47.88\00:20:49.64 temple shall be greater than the former,' 00:20:49.68\00:20:52.11 says the Lord of the hosts, 00:20:52.15\00:20:53.88 'And in this place I will give peace,' 00:20:53.92\00:20:56.32 says the Lord of hosts.'" 00:20:56.35\00:20:58.02 And, Jireh, could you please read verse 7? 00:20:58.05\00:21:02.69 "And I will shake all nations, and they shall come 00:21:02.72\00:21:05.33 to the desire of all nations, 00:21:05.36\00:21:07.80 and I will fill this temple with glory, 00:21:07.83\00:21:09.73 'says the Lord of hosts.'" 00:21:09.76\00:21:11.60 The desire of all nations referred to Jesus. 00:21:11.63\00:21:14.97 Let's see what our torch light 00:21:15.00\00:21:16.34 Mrs. White's writings sheds on this. 00:21:16.37\00:21:18.77 Chemiah, could you please read that for us 00:21:18.81\00:21:21.14 in Prophets and Kings, 00:21:21.18\00:21:22.64 page 597? 00:21:22.68\00:21:24.35 "In being honored 00:21:28.38\00:21:29.72 with the personal presence of Christ 00:21:29.75\00:21:31.95 during His earthly ministry, and in this alone, 00:21:31.99\00:21:36.59 did the second temple exceed the first in glory. 00:21:36.62\00:21:40.46 The 'Desire of all nations' had indeed come to His temple, 00:21:40.50\00:21:45.47 when the Man of Nazareth taught 00:21:45.50\00:21:47.40 and healed in the sacred courts." 00:21:47.44\00:21:51.51 Thank you, Chemiah. 00:21:51.54\00:21:53.01 Pride and Solomon's glorious looking temple 00:21:53.04\00:21:56.01 block their minds to the more important spiritual meaning 00:21:56.04\00:21:59.35 of the temple and its services, 00:21:59.38\00:22:01.32 which pointed to Jesus our Savior 00:22:01.35\00:22:04.02 and hope of eternal life. 00:22:04.05\00:22:06.32 At the dedication of the rebuilt temple, 00:22:06.35\00:22:08.76 the people worshiped and offered sacrifices 00:22:08.79\00:22:11.26 for the forgiveness of sins 00:22:11.29\00:22:13.03 and thankfulness to God for all He had done for them. 00:22:13.06\00:22:16.60 Although they had achieved much, 00:22:16.63\00:22:18.50 there was still much to do. 00:22:18.53\00:22:20.60 In time, the work slowed down again, 00:22:20.64\00:22:23.17 the wall surrounding Jerusalem was still broken down, 00:22:23.20\00:22:26.64 and the huge timber gates to the city 00:22:26.68\00:22:28.61 that had been burned around 90 years before 00:22:28.64\00:22:31.45 had still not been replaced. 00:22:31.48\00:22:33.55 So the city was still not safe from its enemies. 00:22:33.58\00:22:36.62 God in His love and mercy sent additional help 00:22:36.65\00:22:39.75 to get things moving again. 00:22:39.79\00:22:41.49 Meanwhile, a very dangerous situation 00:22:41.52\00:22:43.86 was brewing back in Medo-Persia, 00:22:43.89\00:22:46.16 for those Jews who chose 00:22:46.19\00:22:47.53 not to return to their homeland, 00:22:47.56\00:22:49.43 as we'll discover next week. 00:22:49.46\00:22:52.00 But till then, 00:22:52.03\00:22:53.37 here's how you can access your copy of the devotional 00:22:53.40\00:22:55.77 that goes with today's study. 00:22:55.80\00:22:57.31 What do you want?
