Hello, there. Happy Sabbath. 00:00:02.56\00:00:03.90 Come on in. We're about to meet with the King. 00:00:03.93\00:00:05.90 Hello, I'm Aunty Cecily. 00:00:52.31\00:00:53.98 And I'm Aunty Nat. 00:00:54.02\00:00:55.82 It's a blessing to have you back with us 00:00:55.85\00:00:57.85 to be a part of our worship. 00:00:57.89\00:01:00.16 Have you all had a good week? 00:01:00.19\00:01:02.09 Yes! 00:01:02.12\00:01:03.53 Aunty Nat, how's your week been? 00:01:03.56\00:01:05.49 Do you have a blessing to share with us? 00:01:05.53\00:01:07.33 Yes, I would like to share a blessing. 00:01:07.36\00:01:09.70 I want the girls and boys at home 00:01:09.73\00:01:11.73 to know a bit more about Teddy. 00:01:11.77\00:01:14.07 Teddy sits so quietly on this couch, 00:01:14.10\00:01:16.71 week in and week out. 00:01:16.74\00:01:18.71 And we say hello to him every week. 00:01:18.74\00:01:21.01 But God sent Teddy to us out of the blue. 00:01:21.04\00:01:24.45 He was found on the side of the road, 00:01:24.48\00:01:26.55 and we believe he was dumped 00:01:26.58\00:01:28.28 as some other animals were found in the same place 00:01:28.32\00:01:31.72 over several weeks. 00:01:31.75\00:01:33.36 So God brought Teddy into our lives, 00:01:33.39\00:01:37.13 I believe, particularly for this program. 00:01:37.16\00:01:40.00 He is such a good bunny. 00:01:40.03\00:01:42.03 From day one, he has sat here quietly. 00:01:42.06\00:01:45.23 He has never jumped off the couch. 00:01:45.27\00:01:47.97 Yet, if he sits on the couch at home, 00:01:48.00\00:01:50.11 he jumps off straightaway 00:01:50.14\00:01:52.01 and runs around the lounge room. 00:01:52.04\00:01:53.88 Teddy was an answer to Aunty Nat's prayers. 00:01:53.91\00:01:57.38 God is so faithful. 00:01:57.41\00:01:59.45 So I just wanted to share that blessing with you 00:01:59.48\00:02:02.18 because I feel so blessed. 00:02:02.22\00:02:04.02 Oh, yes. 00:02:04.05\00:02:05.39 He certainly is a blessing, 00:02:05.42\00:02:06.76 and I've really enjoyed becoming friends with Teddy. 00:02:06.79\00:02:10.06 Joey, can you open our worship time 00:02:10.09\00:02:12.39 with a prayer, please? 00:02:12.43\00:02:13.83 Dear Father, thank You so much for the Sabbath day. 00:02:13.86\00:02:17.20 Thank You for the many blessings 00:02:17.23\00:02:19.37 You have sent us this past week. 00:02:19.40\00:02:22.00 Thank You for sending Teddy to us. 00:02:22.04\00:02:25.07 We love You, Lord. 00:02:25.11\00:02:26.44 In Jesus' name, amen. 00:02:26.47\00:02:27.88 Amen. Amen. 00:02:27.91\00:02:30.05 Would you like to know 00:02:30.08\00:02:31.41 what our next key to the kingdom is? 00:02:31.45\00:02:34.15 Yes. 00:02:34.18\00:02:35.52 Let's ask Abby if she'd open our gift box 00:02:35.55\00:02:38.85 and tell us what our key says. 00:02:38.89\00:02:42.92 Witnessing. 00:02:42.96\00:02:44.69 So witnessing is the gift that God offers to give us. 00:02:44.73\00:02:47.63 And what's the text? 00:02:47.66\00:02:49.00 2 Corinthians 3:2. 00:02:49.03\00:02:51.27 Thanks, Abby. 00:02:51.30\00:02:52.63 Bryce, would you read that for us, please? 00:02:52.67\00:02:55.74 "You are our epistle written in our hearts, 00:02:55.77\00:02:58.21 known and read by all men." 00:02:58.24\00:03:00.48 Thanks, Bryce. 00:03:00.51\00:03:01.84 We're God's epistle 00:03:01.88\00:03:03.31 or letter to the world 00:03:03.35\00:03:05.41 just like this letter in this envelope. 00:03:05.45\00:03:08.52 And when we read a letter, 00:03:08.55\00:03:11.15 we get information about things, 00:03:11.19\00:03:13.09 don't we? 00:03:13.12\00:03:14.49 Just like you can read a letter, 00:03:14.52\00:03:16.79 our lives are read by everyone we come in contact with. 00:03:16.83\00:03:20.83 And people will decide what God is like 00:03:20.86\00:03:23.90 from how we act and the things we say. 00:03:23.93\00:03:27.44 Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came to give us life 00:03:27.47\00:03:31.81 and to give it more abundantly. 00:03:31.84\00:03:34.54 Now happy Christians are a good advertisement 00:03:34.58\00:03:37.38 for Jesus, 00:03:37.41\00:03:38.75 but unhappy Christians 00:03:38.78\00:03:40.25 are not a very good advertisement at all. 00:03:40.28\00:03:43.39 That makes being a Christian a very important responsibility 00:03:43.42\00:03:47.39 to be happy, and cooperative, and patient, and kind, 00:03:47.42\00:03:51.86 and caring for others. 00:03:51.89\00:03:54.10 Our lives and how we behave and how we treat people 00:03:54.13\00:03:58.83 and how we spend our time and money, 00:03:58.87\00:04:01.04 even how we dress and present ourselves, 00:04:01.07\00:04:03.87 or send a message to others 00:04:03.91\00:04:05.77 as to whether or not it's worth following Jesus. 00:04:05.81\00:04:09.98 Remember the wonderful miracle that happened to Naaman? 00:04:10.01\00:04:13.08 Because of the witness of the little maid, 00:04:13.11\00:04:15.78 well, later on in our lesson with Aunty Nat, 00:04:15.82\00:04:18.79 we're going to learn what happened to Jonah 00:04:18.82\00:04:21.42 when he, at first, refused to witness for God. 00:04:21.46\00:04:25.53 Is there some way, Bryce, 00:04:25.56\00:04:27.06 in which you can show what Jesus is like? 00:04:27.10\00:04:29.93 Do something nice to someone. 00:04:29.96\00:04:32.10 Yes, Bryce, that's a nice way. 00:04:32.13\00:04:34.94 There are other ways to witness too, 00:04:34.97\00:04:37.31 like singing to people about Jesus' love 00:04:37.34\00:04:40.41 or even sharing one of our devotionals 00:04:40.44\00:04:42.44 with a friend. 00:04:42.48\00:04:44.01 These ways will always be more successful, 00:04:44.05\00:04:46.45 if our lives are happy 00:04:46.48\00:04:47.98 and we're thoughtful and kind to others. 00:04:48.02\00:04:50.85 So remember, you're always on the show 00:04:50.89\00:04:53.09 as a Christian 00:04:53.12\00:04:54.46 and your witness is important in helping others find Jesus. 00:04:54.49\00:04:59.26 So let's ask God to send us the gift of witnessing. 00:04:59.29\00:05:02.96 Amen, Cecily. Thank you so much. 00:05:03.00\00:05:07.34 Our key to the kingdom today gives us a lot to think about. 00:05:07.37\00:05:10.77 We need to shine our light for Jesus, 00:05:10.81\00:05:13.34 so people can see Him in us. 00:05:13.38\00:05:16.34 We need to sing some songs about that. 00:05:16.38\00:05:18.75 Thanks, Braedan, 00:05:18.78\00:05:20.12 for coming to help us do just that. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.25 Thanks, Aunty Nat. It could never happen." 00:08:16.42\00:08:19.53 It is the story of Jonah, Jonah the son of Amittai 00:08:19.56\00:08:24.27 who was swallowed by a whale. 00:08:24.30\00:08:27.17 And I have gone to a lot of trouble 00:08:27.20\00:08:29.14 to research a story about a man called James Bartley, 00:08:29.17\00:08:33.44 who was a crew member on a boat called the Star of the East. 00:08:33.48\00:08:37.95 And I know that the boat left New Zealand 00:08:37.98\00:08:42.75 in 1891 00:08:42.78\00:08:44.39 and sailed across the Pacific Ocean 00:08:44.42\00:08:46.82 around the bottom of South America 00:08:46.86\00:08:49.19 and was up near the Falkland Islands, 00:08:49.22\00:08:52.43 when they spotted the whale. 00:08:52.46\00:08:54.33 Now in those days, 00:08:54.36\00:08:55.80 you went hunting for a whale in a small boat 00:08:55.83\00:08:58.43 and a big spear, 00:08:58.47\00:09:00.47 and a whale is still the largest creature 00:09:00.50\00:09:04.74 that God has ever made. 00:09:04.77\00:09:06.11 They are huge. 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.58 Look at all the men there and they chased it in a boat. 00:09:07.61\00:09:12.28 The boat was only half as long as the whale. 00:09:12.31\00:09:15.25 And when they got close, 00:09:15.28\00:09:17.62 they threw a spear into the whale 00:09:17.65\00:09:19.85 and it dived right down. 00:09:19.89\00:09:22.49 They can go down about 1,000 meters. 00:09:22.52\00:09:26.53 And then it came up, that's called sounding. 00:09:26.56\00:09:30.30 He came out so fast. 00:09:30.33\00:09:32.73 And as he came up, his tail hit the boat. 00:09:32.77\00:09:36.71 And the boat went up in the air 00:09:36.74\00:09:38.87 and all the sailors inside went up in the air 00:09:38.91\00:09:41.14 and one person went up just a little bit 00:09:41.18\00:09:44.45 higher than the rest. 00:09:44.48\00:09:47.32 That was James Bartley. 00:09:47.35\00:09:50.62 And as he was falling, he looked down and he saw... 00:09:50.65\00:09:54.76 This would really be terrified. 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.89 A great big mouth just open up and he fell in feet first. 00:09:56.93\00:10:03.63 He felt himself being sucked 00:10:03.67\00:10:06.17 into a big sack, like a bag. 00:10:06.20\00:10:10.94 And it was warm. 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.61 It was very stinky and hot. 00:10:12.64\00:10:18.61 The warmth went hotter and hotter. 00:10:18.65\00:10:21.55 He felt some fish. 00:10:21.58\00:10:24.99 And he suddenly realized, 00:10:25.02\00:10:27.36 he had been swallowed by a whale. 00:10:27.39\00:10:30.29 I couldn't imagine much worse than that. 00:10:30.33\00:10:33.60 And all the men in the boats, they rode back to the boats, 00:10:33.63\00:10:36.87 and they said, "James Bartley is dead. 00:10:36.90\00:10:40.27 He's been swallowed by the whale." 00:10:40.30\00:10:44.07 Well, later that evening, 00:10:44.11\00:10:46.78 a dead whale floated to the surface. 00:10:46.81\00:10:49.78 And they pulled it on to the boat 00:10:49.81\00:10:52.85 and they started to cut it up. 00:10:52.88\00:10:54.58 It's called flensing. 00:10:54.62\00:10:56.25 And as they're cutting off the flesh, 00:10:56.28\00:10:58.62 because they used to use the oil to make fuel. 00:10:58.65\00:11:04.76 And as they cut it open, 00:11:04.79\00:11:06.29 they got down to the stomach and they said, 00:11:06.33\00:11:09.53 "This might be the whale that swallowed James Bartley." 00:11:09.56\00:11:12.67 So they got to the stomach 00:11:12.70\00:11:14.34 and they carefully slit it open 00:11:14.37\00:11:17.47 and out flopped James Bartley. 00:11:17.51\00:11:21.21 He had been so terrorized by what was happening. 00:11:21.24\00:11:25.25 He'd gone a little bit mad. 00:11:25.28\00:11:28.08 And then he went unconscious, 00:11:28.12\00:11:29.45 and it took two weeks 00:11:29.48\00:11:30.82 before he could even talk about it. 00:11:30.85\00:11:32.52 He was just shaking. 00:11:32.55\00:11:34.79 And he recovered. 00:11:34.82\00:11:36.89 He never looked the same again. 00:11:36.93\00:11:40.73 Some reports said that he went very pale in his skin. 00:11:40.76\00:11:44.20 Others said his skin went rather yellow 00:11:44.23\00:11:46.97 because the digestive juices in the whale 00:11:47.00\00:11:50.21 were starting to work on him." 00:11:50.24\00:11:51.94 But you know, it was a true story. 00:11:51.97\00:11:55.38 And I am so glad that I finally, 00:11:55.41\00:11:59.48 and it took a lot of research, 00:11:59.51\00:12:01.98 I found a picture of James Bartley. 00:12:02.02\00:12:05.92 He went back. He lived for another 29 years. 00:12:05.95\00:12:10.06 You know what? 00:12:10.09\00:12:11.43 He never, ever, ever went back in the ocean. 00:12:11.46\00:12:17.43 He had had enough. He worked on the shore. 00:12:17.47\00:12:20.40 And there is a cemetery in Gloucester, 00:12:20.44\00:12:23.30 and he's buried there. 00:12:23.34\00:12:24.91 And it says, "James Bartley, the man swallowed by a whale." 00:12:24.94\00:12:29.48 And even though people will try to prove to you 00:12:29.51\00:12:32.78 that it is impossible, 00:12:32.81\00:12:35.68 whales can swallow very big squid. 00:12:35.72\00:12:39.42 It could never have happened. 00:12:39.45\00:12:41.32 I believe it because 00:12:41.36\00:12:42.92 Jonah the son of Amittai in the Bible 00:12:42.96\00:12:46.53 was swallowed by a whale to teach him a lesson, 00:12:46.56\00:12:49.30 so he could work for God. 00:12:49.33\00:12:51.37 And the Bible is true. 00:12:51.40\00:12:53.13 I hope you don't learn a lesson like that though. 00:12:53.17\00:12:55.87 Thank you, boys and girls. 00:12:55.90\00:12:58.17 Come in and join us for our Bible study. 00:12:58.21\00:13:00.21 Don't forget to grab your Bible, 00:13:00.24\00:13:01.64 so you can follow along with us. 00:13:01.68\00:13:03.21 Caleb, can you please say a prayer for us 00:13:03.24\00:13:05.08 before we commence our study? 00:13:05.11\00:13:07.05 Dear Father, thank You for the blessings 00:13:07.08\00:13:09.25 You give us every day. 00:13:09.28\00:13:10.79 Please let Your love and light shine through us. 00:13:10.82\00:13:13.49 Be with us as we read our Bibles. 00:13:13.52\00:13:15.72 In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. 00:13:15.76\00:13:17.36 Thank you, Caleb. 00:13:17.39\00:13:19.09 Now, Abby, what did we study about last Sabbath? 00:13:19.13\00:13:21.96 Captain Naaman and his healing from leprosy. 00:13:22.00\00:13:25.23 Yes. And who was the person who told him about Elisha? 00:13:25.27\00:13:28.84 The little maid. The little made. 00:13:28.87\00:13:30.51 Yes, she showed great faith. 00:13:30.54\00:13:32.77 Today, we're going to study about another prophet 00:13:32.81\00:13:35.48 that was raised up to do a work for Him. 00:13:35.51\00:13:37.78 But first, let's have a look at what those kings were up to 00:13:37.81\00:13:41.98 during this time. 00:13:42.02\00:13:43.45 Now last Sabbath, 00:13:43.49\00:13:44.82 we found out that King Jehoahaz was a wicked king. 00:13:44.85\00:13:48.06 He died and his son Jehoash or Joash, 00:13:48.09\00:13:51.63 as he was known, came to the throne. 00:13:51.66\00:13:53.46 Can you just show us that, Aunty Cecily? 00:13:53.50\00:13:56.70 Okay. Erin, can you please read 2 Kings 13:10 to 11? 00:13:56.73\00:14:01.64 "In the 37th year of Joash, king of Judah, 00:14:01.67\00:14:04.74 Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz 00:14:04.77\00:14:08.54 became king over Israel in Samaria, 00:14:08.58\00:14:10.88 and reigned 16 years. 00:14:10.91\00:14:13.31 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 00:14:13.35\00:14:16.02 And he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam 00:14:16.05\00:14:19.55 the son of Nebat, 00:14:19.59\00:14:20.92 who made Israel sin, but walked in them." 00:14:20.96\00:14:24.43 So Jehoash was no better than his father. 00:14:24.46\00:14:27.70 Even though Jehoash didn't follow the Lord, 00:14:27.73\00:14:30.60 when Elisha was sick, 00:14:30.63\00:14:32.13 he went to seek counsel from him 00:14:32.17\00:14:34.30 regarding the king of Syria. 00:14:34.34\00:14:36.81 Jehoash realized that 00:14:36.84\00:14:38.21 Elisha had been such an asset to Israel. 00:14:38.24\00:14:41.38 But after 50 years of ministry, Elisha died. 00:14:41.41\00:14:45.35 Caleb, can you read about that? 00:14:45.38\00:14:47.28 Can you read 2 Kings 13:20 to 21? 00:14:47.32\00:14:51.85 "Then Elisha died, and they buried him. 00:14:51.89\00:14:55.62 And the raiding bands from Moab 00:14:55.66\00:14:57.93 invaded the land in the spring of the year. 00:14:57.96\00:15:02.56 So it was, as they were burying a man, 00:15:02.60\00:15:06.20 that suddenly they spied a band of raiders, 00:15:06.23\00:15:10.17 and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha. 00:15:10.21\00:15:13.38 And where the man was let down 00:15:13.41\00:15:15.48 and touched the bones of Elisha, 00:15:15.51\00:15:17.45 he revived and stood on his feet." 00:15:17.48\00:15:19.61 Wow! 00:15:19.65\00:15:20.98 So Elisha was so full of the Holy Spirit. 00:15:21.02\00:15:23.42 Remember, he asked for a double portion 00:15:23.45\00:15:25.89 that even his dead bones had power. 00:15:25.92\00:15:29.06 When that dead body touched Elisha's bones, 00:15:29.09\00:15:31.36 the man was resurrected to life. 00:15:31.39\00:15:33.96 What a miracle! Okay. 00:15:34.00\00:15:35.96 So King Jehoash or Joash died 00:15:36.00\00:15:39.47 and his son Jeroboam II came to the throne. 00:15:39.50\00:15:43.14 And it was during this time 00:15:43.17\00:15:44.57 that God called Jonah, the prophet. 00:15:44.61\00:15:47.58 Can you just show us that on the chart? 00:15:47.61\00:15:50.41 There we go. 00:15:50.45\00:15:53.52 So let's go over to the Book of Jonah now. 00:15:53.55\00:15:56.12 Bethany, can you please read Jonah 1:1 to 3? 00:15:56.15\00:15:59.89 "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah 00:16:03.12\00:16:04.99 the son of Amittai, 00:16:05.03\00:16:06.76 saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, 00:16:06.80\00:16:09.56 and cry out against it. 00:16:09.60\00:16:11.77 For their wickedness has come up before Me.' 00:16:11.80\00:16:14.37 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish 00:16:14.40\00:16:16.64 from the presence of the Lord. 00:16:16.67\00:16:18.31 He went down to Joppa 00:16:18.34\00:16:19.67 and found a ship going to Tarshish. 00:16:19.71\00:16:21.64 So he paid the fare 00:16:21.68\00:16:23.01 and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish 00:16:23.04\00:16:25.91 from the presence of the Lord." 00:16:25.95\00:16:27.52 Thanks, Bethany. 00:16:27.55\00:16:28.88 So Jonah was asked to go and preach 00:16:28.92\00:16:30.52 in the city of Nineveh. 00:16:30.55\00:16:32.02 Let's look at our map here. 00:16:32.05\00:16:33.39 Aunty Cecily is holding it for us. 00:16:33.42\00:16:35.22 So Nineveh is up here in Assyria, 00:16:35.26\00:16:37.19 which is about 800 kilometers away, 00:16:37.23\00:16:39.79 which is now modern-day Iraq. 00:16:39.83\00:16:41.86 We just read the city was very wicked. 00:16:41.90\00:16:44.73 But verse 3 tells us that Jonah, instead of obeying God, 00:16:44.77\00:16:49.14 goes to the sea port at Joppa 00:16:49.17\00:16:51.97 and takes the first ship sailing to Tarshish, 00:16:52.01\00:16:55.01 which is way over here now in modern-day Spain. 00:16:55.04\00:16:58.48 Tarshish was five times the distance away from Nineveh 00:16:58.51\00:17:02.88 where he was supposed to go. 00:17:02.92\00:17:04.65 Let's see what happens. 00:17:04.69\00:17:06.02 Abigail, can you please read Jonah 1:4 to 5? 00:17:06.05\00:17:10.23 "But the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, 00:17:10.26\00:17:13.19 and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, 00:17:13.23\00:17:16.46 so that the ship was about to be broken up. 00:17:16.50\00:17:19.30 Then the mariners were afraid, 00:17:19.33\00:17:21.70 and every man cried out to his God, 00:17:21.74\00:17:24.31 and threw the cargo that was on the ship 00:17:24.34\00:17:26.91 into the sea to lighten the load. 00:17:26.94\00:17:29.24 But Jonah had gone down 00:17:29.28\00:17:30.65 into the lowest parts of the ship, 00:17:30.68\00:17:32.95 he had lain down, and was fast asleep." 00:17:32.98\00:17:38.82 So while all this was happening, 00:17:38.85\00:17:41.02 Jonah was sleeping. 00:17:41.06\00:17:42.46 But the captain finds him and tells him 00:17:42.49\00:17:44.39 to start praying to his God to save them. 00:17:44.43\00:17:47.40 The Bible tells us the crew found out that 00:17:47.43\00:17:49.76 Jonah was the trouble for the storm. 00:17:49.80\00:17:52.37 Let's see what they say to Jonah. 00:17:52.40\00:17:54.30 Matthew, can you read Jonah 1:11 to 12? 00:17:54.34\00:17:58.47 "'Then they said to him, 00:17:58.51\00:17:59.97 'What shall we do to you 00:18:00.01\00:18:02.04 that the sea may be calm for us?' 00:18:02.08\00:18:05.15 For the sea was growing more tempestuous. 00:18:05.18\00:18:08.28 And he said to them, 00:18:08.32\00:18:09.65 'Pick me up and throw me into the sea, 00:18:09.68\00:18:12.15 then the sea will become calm for you. 00:18:12.19\00:18:15.52 For I know that 00:18:15.56\00:18:17.23 this great tempest is because of me.'" 00:18:17.26\00:18:21.33 So the crew didn't want to throw Jonah in the sea 00:18:21.36\00:18:24.63 and they battle along for a while, 00:18:24.67\00:18:26.37 but the sea got worse. 00:18:26.40\00:18:28.37 They cried out to Jonah's God 00:18:28.40\00:18:30.11 to forgive them for what they were going to do. 00:18:30.14\00:18:32.37 Mia, can you read Jonah 1:15 to 16? 00:18:32.41\00:18:36.18 "So they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, 00:18:36.21\00:18:39.18 and the sea ceased from its raging. 00:18:39.21\00:18:42.38 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly 00:18:42.42\00:18:46.69 and offered a sacrifice to the Lord and took vows." 00:18:46.72\00:18:50.19 Wow! 00:18:50.23\00:18:51.56 So when the crew saw 00:18:51.59\00:18:52.93 how quickly the storm had calmed down, 00:18:52.96\00:18:55.13 they believed in Jonah's God and worshiped Him. 00:18:55.16\00:18:58.80 So now Jonah is in the sea. 00:18:58.83\00:19:01.04 Let's see what happens. 00:19:01.07\00:19:02.40 Aunty Cecily, can you read Jonah 1:17 and 2:1? 00:19:02.44\00:19:06.68 "Now the Lord had prepared a great fish 00:19:06.71\00:19:08.94 to swallow Jonah. 00:19:08.98\00:19:10.85 And Jonah was in the belly of the fish 00:19:10.88\00:19:13.08 three days and three nights. 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.58 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God from the fish's belly." 00:19:15.62\00:19:19.75 Wow! What a miracle God performed to save Jonah! 00:19:19.79\00:19:23.22 Now imagine, 00:19:23.26\00:19:24.59 you're in the stomach of a fish. 00:19:24.63\00:19:27.23 It'd be very dark, smelly, and probably very tight. 00:19:27.26\00:19:30.83 There wouldn't be much room to move around. 00:19:30.87\00:19:33.27 What do you think Jonah did in this situation? 00:19:33.30\00:19:36.34 What do you think he did? Erin, can you read Jonah 2:10? 00:19:42.41\00:19:47.58 "So the Lord spoke to the fish 00:19:47.62\00:19:49.42 and it vomited Jonah onto dry land." 00:19:49.45\00:19:52.29 Now we don't know where 00:19:52.32\00:19:53.66 along the stretch of coast of Israel 00:19:53.69\00:19:55.42 that the fish delivered Jonah to. 00:19:55.46\00:19:57.46 But I imagine that once that happened 00:19:57.49\00:19:58.93 that Jonah had a bit of time for recuperation 00:19:58.96\00:20:01.73 after his ordeal. 00:20:01.76\00:20:03.40 Okay, Caleb, 00:20:03.43\00:20:04.77 can you please read Jonah 3:1 to 2? 00:20:04.80\00:20:08.24 "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time 00:20:08.27\00:20:12.64 saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city 00:20:12.67\00:20:16.34 and preach to it the message I tell you.'" 00:20:16.38\00:20:21.42 So God was not finished with Jonah. 00:20:21.45\00:20:23.99 He was giving him a second chance. 00:20:24.02\00:20:26.52 Do you think he was obedient at this time? 00:20:26.55\00:20:28.89 Yes. Oh, we'll wait and see. 00:20:28.92\00:20:30.26 Bethany, can you read Jonah 3:3 to 4? 00:20:30.29\00:20:33.03 "So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh 00:20:33.06\00:20:35.06 according to the word of the Lord. 00:20:35.10\00:20:37.00 Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, 00:20:37.03\00:20:39.50 a three-day journey in extent. 00:20:39.53\00:20:41.70 And Jonah began to enter the city 00:20:41.74\00:20:44.04 on the first day's walk. 00:20:44.07\00:20:45.41 Then he cried out and said, 'Yet forty days, 00:20:45.44\00:20:47.84 and Nineveh shall be overthrown!'" 00:20:47.88\00:20:50.81 Oh, phew, finally! So Jonah finally went. 00:20:50.85\00:20:53.88 Hurray! 00:20:53.92\00:20:55.25 Nineveh was a very big and beautiful city 00:20:55.28\00:20:58.29 which took three days to travel through. 00:20:58.32\00:21:01.19 God gave Jonah a message to warn Nineveh. 00:21:01.22\00:21:04.49 If they didn't repent of their wickedness in 40 days, 00:21:04.53\00:21:08.56 the city would be destroyed. 00:21:08.60\00:21:10.67 And guess what? 00:21:10.70\00:21:12.20 The people and even the king 00:21:12.23\00:21:14.70 believed the message and repented. 00:21:14.74\00:21:16.57 Abigail, can you read Jonah 3:10? 00:21:16.60\00:21:20.81 "Then God saw their works 00:21:20.84\00:21:22.44 that they had turned from their evil way, 00:21:22.48\00:21:24.91 and God relented from the disaster 00:21:24.95\00:21:27.78 that He had said He would bring upon them, 00:21:27.82\00:21:30.22 and He did not do it." 00:21:30.25\00:21:32.32 So because they repented, 00:21:32.35\00:21:34.56 God decided not to destroy the city of Nineveh. 00:21:34.59\00:21:37.89 Praise the Lord. 00:21:37.93\00:21:39.49 But 4:1 tells us that Jonah was not happy 00:21:39.53\00:21:43.57 that Nineveh was spared. 00:21:43.60\00:21:45.23 He was more worried about his reputation 00:21:45.27\00:21:47.34 as a prophet. 00:21:47.37\00:21:48.70 Let's have a look at our torchlight, 00:21:48.74\00:21:50.37 Mrs. White's writings to see what they shine on this verse. 00:21:50.41\00:21:54.21 Matthew, can you read that for us? 00:21:54.24\00:21:57.31 "Confused, humiliated, 00:21:57.35\00:21:59.38 and unable to understand God's purpose 00:21:59.41\00:22:02.08 in sparing Nineveh, 00:22:02.12\00:22:03.69 Jonah nevertheless 00:22:03.72\00:22:05.05 had fulfilled the commission given him 00:22:05.09\00:22:07.62 to warn the great city. 00:22:07.66\00:22:09.56 And though the event predicted did not come to pass, 00:22:09.59\00:22:14.46 yet the message of warning was nonetheless from God. 00:22:14.50\00:22:18.57 And it accomplished the purpose God designed it should." 00:22:18.60\00:22:22.30 Thanks, Matthew. 00:22:22.34\00:22:23.91 So God was able to use Jonah 00:22:23.94\00:22:25.81 despite his foibles or his personality. 00:22:25.84\00:22:28.44 And God's grace, and mercy, and love 00:22:28.48\00:22:30.58 was able to be shone into the city in a faraway land 00:22:30.61\00:22:34.55 that had no knowledge of the true and living God. 00:22:34.58\00:22:38.29 Okay. 00:22:38.32\00:22:39.65 Let's have a look at the Kings again 00:22:39.69\00:22:41.02 from the northern kingdom of Israel. 00:22:41.06\00:22:43.29 After Jeroboam II, 00:22:43.32\00:22:44.96 there were six more kings that came to power, 00:22:44.99\00:22:48.96 and all six of them were evil. 00:22:49.00\00:22:51.73 During that time, God sent two more prophets, 00:22:51.77\00:22:54.97 Hosea and Amos to warn the kingdom of Israel 00:22:55.00\00:22:59.01 that what would happen 00:22:59.04\00:23:00.64 if they continued in their idolatry. 00:23:00.68\00:23:03.55 Mia, can you please read 2 Kings 17:6?
