00:02:59.81\00:03:02.38 Imagine how long your friendship 00:03:02.41\00:03:04.05 would last with another person if you never talked with them? 00:03:04.08\00:03:08.82 We can talk with God in the same way 00:03:08.85\00:03:10.79 that we can talk to our friend. 00:03:10.82\00:03:13.49 Bethany, when can we pray? 00:07:13.70\00:07:17.70 Hello, boys and girls, 00:07:17.73\00:07:19.07 it's wonderful to have you back here. 00:07:19.10\00:07:21.87 And I want to tell you a story from the Bible 00:07:21.90\00:07:24.94 and then a modern counterpart. 00:07:24.97\00:07:29.04 A little boy was born in biblical times, 00:07:29.08\00:07:33.28 way back in the time of the Judges. 00:07:33.31\00:07:36.28 And God said that this boy is going to be different. 00:07:36.32\00:07:40.62 He's going to be special, 00:07:40.66\00:07:43.09 and he will be the strongest person 00:07:43.12\00:07:47.03 who ever lived. 00:07:47.06\00:07:49.36 What was his name? 00:07:49.40\00:07:52.83 Samson. 00:07:52.87\00:07:54.80 But there's one condition, 00:07:54.84\00:07:57.11 you mustn't cut his hair, ever. 00:07:57.14\00:08:02.28 Because if you cut his hair, 00:08:02.31\00:08:04.81 it'll be a sign that he is no longer a Nazarene 00:08:04.85\00:08:08.58 which was what they called them. 00:08:08.62\00:08:10.42 And he will be just as weak as every other man. 00:08:10.45\00:08:14.26 But while his hair is long, 00:08:14.29\00:08:17.26 he will have incredible strength. 00:08:17.29\00:08:20.66 Now as I look around here, 00:08:20.70\00:08:22.50 I think we must have some very strong girls. 00:08:22.53\00:08:27.17 Bethany, I love your hair. 00:08:27.20\00:08:29.14 Hold it up so we can all see it. 00:08:29.17\00:08:31.31 And all the boys and girls around, 00:08:31.34\00:08:32.84 that's beautiful. 00:08:32.87\00:08:34.21 How often do you cut it? Not very often. 00:08:34.24\00:08:36.91 Not very often, you just trim and your sister Amber. 00:08:36.95\00:08:41.25 I want all the girls to hold out 00:08:41.28\00:08:42.78 their nice long hair. 00:08:42.82\00:08:45.69 Oh, it's beautiful. 00:08:45.72\00:08:47.06 I love your hair too, Abigail. 00:08:47.09\00:08:49.82 I wonder whether I can have a haircut like that. 00:08:49.86\00:08:53.13 Boys, 00:08:53.16\00:08:55.40 if you turned up at school with hair like the girls, 00:08:55.43\00:09:02.00 do you think you'd get teased? 00:09:03.00\00:09:06.34 What do you think they would call you? 00:09:06.37\00:09:10.05 They would call you girly, 00:09:10.08\00:09:12.91 or sissy, or something. 00:09:12.95\00:09:16.32 There are some cultures 00:09:16.35\00:09:18.05 where the boys do grow their hair 00:09:18.09\00:09:19.79 until they're about 12 years of age 00:09:19.82\00:09:21.56 and some other will do that, 00:09:21.59\00:09:23.66 and they are not embarrassed. 00:09:23.69\00:09:25.83 And if I hold up this picture, 00:09:25.86\00:09:28.70 and you saw it for the first time, 00:09:28.73\00:09:30.47 you'll say, oh, there's a nice looking girl, 00:09:30.50\00:09:36.27 that the girl's name was Colon and when he was four years old, 00:09:36.30\00:09:42.91 he said to his mummy, 00:09:42.94\00:09:45.05 I don't want to get my hair cut any longer. 00:09:45.08\00:09:49.38 And his mother said, 00:09:49.42\00:09:50.75 "Why, why don't you want your hair cut?" 00:09:50.79\00:09:54.02 He gave the answer that you and I 00:09:54.06\00:09:56.26 when we are children often give, 00:09:56.29\00:09:59.36 why not, because it was his secret. 00:09:59.39\00:10:05.13 And so his mother said, 00:10:05.17\00:10:06.57 "If you want to have your hair long, 00:10:06.60\00:10:08.67 I'm warning you when you go to school, 00:10:08.70\00:10:11.87 the boys will tease you. 00:10:11.91\00:10:14.41 They'll make names and call you girly." 00:10:14.44\00:10:19.21 Colon was only four years old and he said, 00:10:19.25\00:10:21.75 "That's all right." 00:10:21.78\00:10:23.92 And his hair grew, and grew, 00:10:23.95\00:10:26.72 and grew until he was 10 years old. 00:10:26.76\00:10:31.09 Six years has gone by, and he said, "All right, 00:10:31.13\00:10:34.73 it's time to go to the hairdresser." 00:10:34.76\00:10:39.37 And he had a haircut and he looked quite different. 00:10:39.40\00:10:46.07 Why do you think he grew his hair 00:10:46.11\00:10:50.41 for all those years, six years? 00:10:50.45\00:10:52.61 He wrote a letter and he says what he wrote, 00:10:52.65\00:10:58.92 "Hi, there my name is Colon and I'm 10 years old. 00:10:58.95\00:11:01.82 I have been growing my hair since I was four years old. 00:11:01.86\00:11:05.36 I wondered what to do with it, 00:11:05.39\00:11:07.83 and thought it would be a great idea to donate my hair 00:11:07.86\00:11:12.47 to people and kids who lost their hair to cancer." 00:11:12.50\00:11:18.51 You know, when people get cancer, 00:11:18.54\00:11:20.41 sometimes they have to give them a treatment. 00:11:20.44\00:11:23.18 And that makes their hair fall out. 00:11:23.21\00:11:25.81 And it grows back again later, but it's terrible, 00:11:25.85\00:11:28.28 particularly if you're a girl, 00:11:28.32\00:11:29.65 if you go around without your hair, 00:11:29.68\00:11:31.42 and particularly if you're a little girl, 00:11:31.45\00:11:33.79 and Colon went for six years to let his hair grow long 00:11:33.82\00:11:38.79 so he could help restore the hair and give them a wig 00:11:38.83\00:11:44.97 while their hair was growing again. 00:11:45.00\00:11:47.57 I think that's amazing that a four year old boy 00:11:47.60\00:11:50.07 decided to grow his hair and all the people 00:11:50.11\00:11:53.31 would mock him for all those years 00:11:53.34\00:11:55.48 and you know, he had so much courage, 00:11:55.51\00:11:58.08 he had so much determination, 00:11:58.11\00:12:00.02 he really had a goal in life and he followed it. 00:12:00.05\00:12:04.59 And we have the same goal and that is 00:12:04.62\00:12:07.82 "If you serve God and you focus on God 00:12:07.86\00:12:10.73 and do nothing but want to follow Him, 00:12:10.76\00:12:13.40 and all your friends can laugh at you, 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.90 and you follow God, 00:12:15.93\00:12:17.67 you will be as brave and as wonderful as Colon." 00:12:17.70\00:12:21.44 I think that's a beautiful story, don't you? 00:12:21.47\00:12:24.04 Thank you, boys and girls. 00:12:24.07\00:12:26.54 Hi, boys and girls, welcome to our Bible study. 00:12:26.57\00:12:29.08 If you haven't got your Bible, 00:12:29.11\00:12:30.45 go get it now so you can follow along with us. 00:12:30.48\00:12:33.25 Abigail, can you please say a prayer 00:12:33.28\00:12:35.02 before we open our Bible study? 00:12:35.05\00:12:37.12 Dear Father, thank You for our Bibles. 00:12:37.15\00:12:39.79 Help us to understand what we read 00:12:39.82\00:12:41.66 and allow to warm our hearts. 00:12:41.69\00:12:43.53 Be with the children who are watching at home, 00:12:43.56\00:12:45.69 in Jesus' name, amen. 00:12:45.73\00:12:47.43 Thanks Abby. 00:12:47.46\00:12:48.96 Now, Bethany, 00:12:49.00\00:12:50.67 do you remember what we studied about last Sabbath? 00:12:50.70\00:12:52.63 Elisha's ascension to heaven. 00:12:52.67\00:12:54.37 And who was the prophet that took Elijah's place? 00:12:54.40\00:12:57.17 Elisha? Yes. 00:12:57.21\00:12:58.91 Before we study more about Elisha, 00:12:58.94\00:13:01.24 we're going to look at those kings 00:13:01.28\00:13:03.18 and see what's going on up there. 00:13:03.21\00:13:05.51 Let's look at the northern kingdom 00:13:05.55\00:13:07.38 of our map of kings 00:13:07.42\00:13:09.25 and let's point out King Ahaziah. 00:13:09.28\00:13:12.99 Now when he died, 00:13:13.02\00:13:14.36 his brother became king and took his place. 00:13:14.39\00:13:17.79 And we're going to study about that now. 00:13:17.83\00:13:19.73 Erin, can you please read 2 Kings 3:1-3? 00:13:19.76\00:13:25.43 "Now Jehoram son of Ahab became king of Israel 00:13:25.47\00:13:28.90 at Samaria in the 18th year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, 00:13:28.94\00:13:33.01 and reigned 12 years. 00:13:33.04\00:13:34.88 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, 00:13:34.91\00:13:37.38 but not like his father and mother, 00:13:37.41\00:13:39.38 for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal 00:13:39.41\00:13:41.88 that his father had made. 00:13:41.92\00:13:43.69 Nevertheless he persisted in the sins of Jeroboam, 00:13:43.72\00:13:47.26 the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, 00:13:47.29\00:13:50.86 he did not depart from them." 00:13:50.89\00:13:54.16 So again, King Jehoram was not much better 00:13:54.20\00:13:57.33 than his father or his brother. 00:13:57.37\00:14:00.00 Though he did take down the idols to bow, 00:14:00.04\00:14:03.10 but he still worshiped the golden calf 00:14:03.14\00:14:05.81 set up by Jeroboam. 00:14:05.84\00:14:08.01 Okay, so let's now go over to 2 Chronicles 00:14:08.04\00:14:11.25 and let's find out what's going on down 00:14:11.28\00:14:15.48 in the southern kingdom. 00:14:15.52\00:14:17.29 Now we read in the Bible last Sabbath 00:14:17.32\00:14:19.45 that Jehoshaphat was a good king 00:14:19.49\00:14:22.12 and he ruled for 25 years. 00:14:22.16\00:14:24.63 When he died, his son took his place. 00:14:24.66\00:14:27.26 Aunt Cecily, can you show us that on the map 00:14:27.30\00:14:29.66 of the southern tribes? 00:14:29.70\00:14:31.17 So Jehoshaphat was a good king and then his son Jehoram, 00:14:31.20\00:14:34.10 also name as Joram took his place. 00:14:34.14\00:14:36.47 Okay, so Abigail, can you please read 00:14:36.50\00:14:39.04 2 Chronicles 21:5-6? 00:14:39.07\00:14:42.44 "Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king, 00:14:42.48\00:14:45.91 and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 00:14:45.95\00:14:48.28 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, 00:14:48.32\00:14:51.12 just as the house of Ahab had done, 00:14:51.15\00:14:53.99 for he had the daughter of Ahab as a wife, 00:14:54.02\00:14:58.63 and he did evil in the sight of the Lord." 00:14:58.66\00:15:01.53 So because Jehoram was so wicked, 00:15:01.56\00:15:03.97 especially since his father and grandfather 00:15:04.00\00:15:07.14 had been good kings, 00:15:07.17\00:15:08.80 Elijah before he went to heaven 00:15:08.84\00:15:10.81 wrote a letter to Jehoram, 00:15:10.84\00:15:12.67 telling him he would become sick 00:15:12.71\00:15:14.64 in his intestines or down in the tummy. 00:15:14.68\00:15:17.21 This did happen and Jehoram died. 00:15:17.25\00:15:20.02 After this Jehoram's younger son, 00:15:20.05\00:15:22.58 Ahaziah became king and only ruled a year 00:15:22.62\00:15:26.82 because he did evil in sight of the Lord. 00:15:26.86\00:15:30.36 Aunt Cecily, can you just show us that, 00:15:30.39\00:15:32.69 Ahaziah up there? 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.06 There's two Ahaziahs, gets a bit confusing, 00:15:34.10\00:15:36.10 but there was Ahaziah on both sides of the kingdom. 00:15:36.13\00:15:39.60 So the kings were not tracking very well. 00:15:39.63\00:15:42.30 So far, only two have been good kings 00:15:42.34\00:15:46.41 out of the 16 spread out over the two kingdoms. 00:15:46.44\00:15:49.88 They were kings Asa and Jehoshaphat. 00:15:49.91\00:15:53.65 Let's go back to 2 Kings 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.58 and continue to read about Elisha. 00:15:55.62\00:15:58.35 Bethany, can you please read 2 Kings 4:1-4? 00:15:58.39\00:16:03.22 "So Elisha said to her, 'What shall I do for you? 00:16:03.26\00:16:06.46 Tell me, what do you have in the house?' 00:16:06.49\00:16:08.73 And she said, 'Your maidservant has nothing in the house 00:16:08.76\00:16:11.50 but a jar of oil.' 00:16:11.53\00:16:13.00 Then he said, 'Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, 00:16:13.03\00:16:16.00 from all your neighbors empty vessels, 00:16:16.04\00:16:18.17 do not gather just a few. 00:16:18.21\00:16:21.58 And when you have come in, 00:16:21.61\00:16:23.41 you shall shut the door behind you and your sons, 00:16:23.45\00:16:25.85 then pour it into all those vessels, 00:16:25.88\00:16:27.55 and set aside the full ones.' 00:16:27.58\00:16:29.08 " Okay, Sophie, can you read verses 5-7 please? 00:16:29.12\00:16:32.95 "So she went from him and shut the door 00:16:32.99\00:16:34.96 behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her, 00:16:34.99\00:16:38.53 and she poured it out. 00:16:38.56\00:16:39.89 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, 00:16:39.93\00:16:42.26 that she said to her son, 'Bring me another vessel.' 00:16:42.30\00:16:46.17 And he said to her, 'There is not another vessel.' 00:16:46.20\00:16:49.00 So the oil ceased. 00:16:49.04\00:16:50.71 Then she came and told the man of God. 00:16:50.74\00:16:53.44 And he said, 'Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, 00:16:53.48\00:16:57.05 and you and your sons live on the rest.'" 00:16:57.08\00:16:59.21 Wow, what an amazing miracle God performed through Elisha 00:16:59.25\00:17:03.25 for the widow and her sons. 00:17:03.28\00:17:05.45 God is so good. 00:17:05.49\00:17:07.16 Let's continue reading. 00:17:07.19\00:17:08.52 Matthew, can you please read 2 Kings 4:8-10? 00:17:08.56\00:17:12.76 "Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, 00:17:12.79\00:17:15.70 where there was a notable woman, 00:17:15.73\00:17:17.57 and she persuaded him to eat some food. 00:17:17.60\00:17:20.17 So it was, as often as he passed by, 00:17:20.20\00:17:23.51 he would turn in there to eat some food. 00:17:23.54\00:17:26.47 And she said to her husband, 'Look now, 00:17:26.51\00:17:30.11 I know that there is a holy man of God, 00:17:30.15\00:17:32.75 who passes by us regularly. 00:17:32.78\00:17:35.08 Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall, 00:17:35.12\00:17:38.25 and let us put a bed for him there, 00:17:38.29\00:17:40.49 and a table and a chair and a lampstand, 00:17:40.52\00:17:44.33 so it will be, whenever he comes to us, 00:17:44.36\00:17:47.33 he can turn in there.'" 00:17:47.36\00:17:49.03 Thanks, Matthew. 00:17:49.06\00:17:50.40 So this Shunammite woman was a woman of prominence 00:17:50.43\00:17:53.03 and wealth in her community. 00:17:53.07\00:17:55.04 She recognized that Elisha was a man of God 00:17:55.07\00:17:58.44 and she wanted to provide a place 00:17:58.47\00:18:00.54 that he could retreat during his travels. 00:18:00.58\00:18:03.68 After the room was built, 00:18:03.71\00:18:05.15 she invited Elisha and his servant Gehazi to stay. 00:18:05.18\00:18:09.25 Let's see what Elisha's response was to this kindness. 00:18:09.28\00:18:13.19 Mia, can you please read 2 Kings 4:14-16? 00:18:13.22\00:18:18.46 "So he said, 'What then is to be done for her?' 00:18:18.49\00:18:23.37 And Gehazi answered, 'Actually, 00:18:23.40\00:18:26.27 she has no son, and her husband is old.' 00:18:26.30\00:18:30.14 So he said, 'Call her.' 00:18:30.17\00:18:32.37 When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 00:18:32.41\00:18:36.61 Then he said, 'About this time next year 00:18:36.64\00:18:39.21 you shall embrace a son.' 00:18:39.25\00:18:40.88 And she said, 'No, my lord. 00:18:40.92\00:18:42.85 Man of God, do not lie to my maidservant!'" 00:18:42.88\00:18:45.69 To your maidservant. 00:18:45.72\00:18:47.06 Okay. 00:18:47.09\00:18:48.42 Elisha told the Shunammite woman 00:18:48.46\00:18:50.16 that she was finally after many years of trying, 00:18:50.19\00:18:53.36 going to have a baby. 00:18:53.40\00:18:54.76 And verse 17 tells us that was exactly what happened. 00:18:54.80\00:18:59.23 Aunty Cecily, can you read 2 Kings 4:18-21? 00:18:59.27\00:19:05.34 And the child grew. 00:19:05.37\00:19:07.41 Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, 00:19:07.44\00:19:11.31 to the reapers. 00:19:11.35\00:19:12.95 And he said to his father, 'My head, my head!' 00:19:12.98\00:19:17.29 So he said to a servant, 'Carry him to his mother.' 00:19:17.32\00:19:21.69 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, 00:19:21.72\00:19:26.03 he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. 00:19:26.06\00:19:30.20 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, 00:19:30.23\00:19:34.10 shut the door upon him, and went out.'" 00:19:34.14\00:19:37.04 No, no, the Shunammite woman knew 00:19:37.07\00:19:40.94 that Elisha had gone to Mount Carmel, 00:19:40.98\00:19:43.81 and she left immediately to go after him. 00:19:43.85\00:19:46.88 When she arrived, she refused to leave 00:19:46.92\00:19:49.48 until Elisha came back home with her. 00:19:49.52\00:19:51.85 Let's see what happens next. 00:19:51.89\00:19:53.66 Erin, can you read 2 Kings 4:32-34? 00:19:53.69\00:19:58.39 "When Elisha came into the house, 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.60 there was the child, lying dead on his bed. 00:20:00.63\00:20:03.83 He went in therefore, 00:20:03.87\00:20:05.20 shut the door behind the two of them, 00:20:05.23\00:20:07.17 and prayed to the Lord. 00:20:07.20\00:20:08.70 And he went up and lay on the child, 00:20:08.74\00:20:11.47 he put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, 00:20:11.51\00:20:15.51 and his hands on his hands, 00:20:15.54\00:20:17.25 and he stretched himself out on the child, 00:20:17.28\00:20:20.42 and the flesh of the child became warm." 00:20:20.45\00:20:25.35 Abigail, can you please read verses 35-36?
