Hello there! Happy Sabbath! 00:00:02.66\00:00:04.73 Come on in, we're about to meet with the King! 00:00:04.77\00:00:07.77 Hello, I'm Aunty Net and it's great you have come 00:00:53.31\00:00:55.62 to join us for our worship time. 00:00:55.65\00:00:57.72 Hi Aunty Cecily, how has your week been? 00:00:57.75\00:01:00.02 Oh okay, good but a busy week. 00:01:00.06\00:01:02.12 But I'm so glad to be here 00:01:02.16\00:01:03.76 with you all for another worship time. 00:01:03.79\00:01:05.89 Yes, I'm glad the Sabbath has arrived. 00:01:05.93\00:01:09.23 Aunty Cecily, would you like to say hello to someone 00:01:09.26\00:01:11.63 who regularly watches our program 00:01:11.67\00:01:13.64 and joins with our worship time? 00:01:13.67\00:01:15.10 I sure would... I actually have several children 00:01:15.14\00:01:18.54 to say hello to. 00:01:18.57\00:01:19.91 I'd like to send a BIG Hello to Colby, Tyler and Brianna 00:01:19.94\00:01:24.05 from Queensland. 00:01:24.08\00:01:25.48 Hi Colby, Tyler and Brianna! Hello! 00:01:25.51\00:01:28.98 Now there's someone else we need to say hello to... 00:01:29.02\00:01:31.92 Hello Teddy, so good to have you on the couch with us. 00:01:31.95\00:01:35.72 Erin, can you please say a prayer for us 00:01:35.76\00:01:38.16 to welcome in our worship time? 00:01:38.19\00:01:40.40 Dear Lord... Thank You that we are all here together 00:01:40.43\00:01:43.33 to welcome in Your Sabbath day. 00:01:43.37\00:01:45.40 Thank You for the many blessings You have given us this week. 00:01:45.43\00:01:48.67 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! 00:01:48.70\00:01:51.47 Thank you Erin. 00:01:51.51\00:01:52.84 Now let's look at another key to the Kingdom. 00:01:52.87\00:01:56.14 And I'm going to get Sophie to open our box today 00:01:56.18\00:01:59.81 and see what our key is. 00:01:59.85\00:02:02.58 "Confess your wrongs." 00:02:05.02\00:02:06.92 Can you turn the label over and tell us what the Bible 00:02:06.96\00:02:09.22 text is? 00:02:09.26\00:02:10.63 1 John 1:9. Thanks Sophie. 00:02:10.66\00:02:14.10 Caleb, can you please read that text for us from the Bible? 00:02:14.13\00:02:16.70 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just 00:02:17.77\00:02:21.77 to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from 00:02:21.80\00:02:24.67 all unrighteousness." Thank you Caleb. 00:02:24.71\00:02:27.91 Aunty Cecily, can you tell us more about this key? 00:02:27.94\00:02:30.55 Yes, remember last week's lesson, David repented of 00:02:30.58\00:02:34.78 his sin but he also confessed it. 00:02:34.82\00:02:37.99 He didn't try to make his sin any less serious 00:02:38.02\00:02:40.66 than it really was. 00:02:40.69\00:02:42.49 Confession is not about blaming someone else. 00:02:42.52\00:02:45.29 It's about taking responsibility for our own actions. 00:02:45.33\00:02:49.56 In David's prayer of repentance in Psalm 51:3, 00:02:49.60\00:02:53.77 he said... "For I acknowledge or I admit my transgressions, 00:02:53.80\00:02:58.67 and my sin is always before me." 00:02:58.71\00:03:01.64 So to confess your sin - is to admit that you did it. 00:03:01.68\00:03:05.81 Confession will not be acceptable to God 00:03:05.85\00:03:08.42 without sincere repentance and a 00:03:08.45\00:03:10.92 willingness to change our ways. 00:03:10.95\00:03:13.12 God has created us with the power of choice, 00:03:13.15\00:03:16.73 and we can choose whether to follow God or not. 00:03:16.76\00:03:20.90 What we can do is give our will or our power of choice 00:03:20.93\00:03:25.27 to God and ask Him to guide us or to direct our 00:03:25.30\00:03:29.20 steps day-by-day so that we are simply 00:03:29.24\00:03:32.17 carrying out His will. 00:03:32.21\00:03:34.48 Caleb, have you had to confess something to your mom or dad 00:03:34.51\00:03:38.08 when you've done something wrong? Yeah. 00:03:38.11\00:03:40.62 And was that a hard thing to do? Not really. 00:03:40.65\00:03:44.42 And why was that? 00:03:44.45\00:03:45.99 I knew mom wouldn't be angry with me if I told her 00:03:46.02\00:03:48.69 the truth and owned up. 00:03:48.72\00:03:50.06 Well, it's just like that when we confess our sins 00:03:50.09\00:03:53.46 to our Heavenly Father, sometimes it seems hard to do, 00:03:53.50\00:03:57.67 but if we ask God to help us confess, we'll find that it's 00:03:57.70\00:04:01.84 not so hard to do and we'll feel so much better when we do. 00:04:01.87\00:04:06.44 So as we spend time with the King this Sabbath, 00:04:06.47\00:04:09.14 let's ask God to give us the gift of repentance 00:04:09.18\00:04:12.58 and confession so that God can forgive us and cleanse us, 00:04:12.61\00:04:16.58 and keep a place for us in His Kingdom. 00:04:16.62\00:04:19.95 Thanks, Aunty Cecily, for sharing the third key with us. 00:04:19.99\00:04:22.79 God wants us to ask Him about everything and He will 00:04:22.82\00:04:26.66 give us the help we need. 00:04:26.70\00:04:28.66 I can see that Braedan has arrived to help us 00:04:28.70\00:04:31.30 with our worship time. 00:04:31.33\00:04:32.73 It's good to be here! Hi boys and girls! 00:04:32.77\00:04:34.77 Let's sing "Remember the Sabbath." 00:04:34.80\00:04:37.64 Braedan, can we please sing, "I Am So Glad?" 00:05:22.58\00:05:25.25 We certainly can. 00:05:25.29\00:05:27.56 Braedan, can we please sing, "A Little Talk with Jesus?" 00:06:29.95\00:06:32.95 That's a great song, let's sing it together. 00:06:32.99\00:06:36.69 Thanks Braedan! 00:07:22.50\00:07:23.84 Singing praises to God really lifts our spirits. 00:07:23.87\00:07:27.08 Now Dr. John has another inspiring 00:07:27.11\00:07:29.74 story for us, let's go and listen! 00:07:29.78\00:07:32.35 Hello boys and girls, it's wonderful to have 00:07:32.41\00:07:35.72 you as my little friends again. 00:07:35.75\00:07:37.62 I want to say a special welcome to the older people 00:07:38.62\00:07:41.72 all around the world because I know you watch 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.96 "A Day With the King," and you love the stories. 00:07:43.99\00:07:47.00 Thank you for joining us today. 00:07:47.03\00:07:49.00 I want to tell you a story from the Bible and I'll bet 00:07:49.03\00:07:52.20 you've never heard it before. 00:07:52.23\00:07:53.74 It's from the Bible and from history and there's just 00:07:53.77\00:07:57.01 one little verse in the Bible that mentions his name. 00:07:57.04\00:07:59.87 But I'll start with a man called, "Manaen," 00:07:59.91\00:08:03.75 and he was a prophet. 00:08:03.78\00:08:06.01 And he was walking down the road one day, 00:08:06.05\00:08:08.62 and this is from Josephus, the historian... 00:08:08.65\00:08:12.55 And God said to Manahen, "Do you see that little 00:08:12.59\00:08:15.92 boy walking down the road?" 00:08:15.96\00:08:17.39 Jeremiah, you be my little boy today - stand-up and 00:08:17.43\00:08:21.30 turn around. 00:08:21.33\00:08:22.93 Now this little boy was going to school and he wasn't 00:08:22.96\00:08:27.37 too happy about it. 00:08:27.40\00:08:28.74 He was walking - come on, going-to-school-face, alright! 00:08:28.77\00:08:33.11 Now God said to Manahen "I want you to go and tell 00:08:33.14\00:08:38.51 that boy that one day he's going to be king." 00:08:38.55\00:08:42.98 Now how do you tell a little boy, who is 7 years old, 00:08:43.02\00:08:46.62 (you're a bit older than 7), how do you tell a little boy 00:08:46.65\00:08:49.72 something that he will not forget because little boys 00:08:49.76\00:08:52.43 have got very good forgetteries, and so Manahen thought... 00:08:52.46\00:08:56.30 "I know what I'll do." 00:08:56.33\00:08:57.67 He snuck up behind him... (don't you look at me, 00:08:58.73\00:09:01.47 you look that way) and when the little boy 00:09:01.50\00:09:06.07 least expected it, Manahen came up behind him 00:09:06.31\00:09:11.11 and went "BOOM" on the backside! 00:09:11.15\00:09:13.82 And he jumped in the air and he turned around 00:09:13.85\00:09:16.79 and he said, "Young man, one day you will be king, 00:09:16.82\00:09:21.02 off you go to school." 00:09:21.06\00:09:22.46 Thank you Jeremiah. 00:09:22.49\00:09:23.86 Many years later, the boy became king! 00:09:25.13\00:09:29.63 And the first thing he did was to call Manahen. 00:09:30.37\00:09:33.23 He said, "You made a prophecy that I was 00:09:33.27\00:09:36.30 going to be king, and you were right!" 00:09:36.37\00:09:39.34 He said, "Will I be king for 10 years?" "Um hm" 00:09:39.37\00:09:43.04 "Oh good, will I be king for 20 years?" 00:09:44.35\00:09:47.68 "Um hm." Then he got bold, 00:09:47.72\00:09:51.15 he said, "30 years?" 00:09:51.19\00:09:54.59 And Manahen's face didn't look quite as cheerful, 00:09:54.62\00:09:57.93 and he said, "Yes, but your last 00:09:57.96\00:10:02.60 10 years won't be very happy ones." "Oh, okay." 00:10:02.63\00:10:07.07 And he said, "I'm going to reward you by adopting 00:10:07.10\00:10:11.11 your son and he will be a half- brother to one of the princes." 00:10:11.14\00:10:15.58 The king's name was... he called himself "Hero," Hero the Great, 00:10:15.61\00:10:20.32 we know him as "Herod" and he became a special friend 00:10:20.35\00:10:25.19 to little Manaen, the son of Manahen, 00:10:25.22\00:10:27.99 to King Antipas and he stayed with him. 00:10:28.02\00:10:33.36 He ate at the royal table; everything he did 00:10:33.40\00:10:36.36 was at the royal table and he was probably 00:10:37.23\00:10:40.70 watching when Jesus was tortured and teased, 00:10:40.74\00:10:45.67 and mocked by King Antipas. 00:10:45.71\00:10:49.38 And one day he said, "I cannot stay here any longer." 00:10:49.41\00:10:54.48 And he said, "That man that you crucified, Jesus Christ, 00:10:54.52\00:10:59.72 I believe He was the Messiah, the Son of God, 00:10:59.75\00:11:03.93 the Savior of the world and I have to leave." 00:11:03.96\00:11:08.03 He went all the way across to Antioch and all the disciples 00:11:08.06\00:11:12.33 were in Antioch because they had been driven by 00:11:12.63\00:11:15.24 persecution out of Jerusalem. 00:11:15.27\00:11:18.07 And one day God said, "I want you to do a very special 00:11:18.11\00:11:24.05 thing - I want you to ordain my servant "Saul 00:11:24.08\00:11:28.58 and Barnabas to be ministers and to spread the gospel 00:11:28.62\00:11:33.15 to the whole world." 00:11:33.19\00:11:34.79 And I've got one of your "Day With the Kings Bibles," 00:11:34.82\00:11:38.56 and I've got a bookmark here and there is only one text 00:11:38.59\00:11:41.93 that mentions "Manaen," and it is from Acts 13:1. 00:11:41.96\00:11:47.30 Let me read it... "Now in the church that was at Antioch 00:11:47.34\00:11:50.31 there were certain prophets and teachers; 00:11:50.34\00:11:52.14 Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius and Manaen (then it says) 00:11:52.17\00:11:59.95 who had been brought up with 00:11:59.98\00:12:01.45 Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 00:12:01.48\00:12:04.32 And as they ministered to the Lord and fasted, 00:12:04.35\00:12:06.69 the Lord said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul..." 00:12:06.72\00:12:09.72 And they fasted and prayed and they put their hands on them, 00:12:09.76\00:12:14.10 and ordained them to the gospel. 00:12:14.13\00:12:16.36 That little boy, who grew up in that awful home, 00:12:16.40\00:12:20.50 there is a lovely hymn that says, "Turn your eyes 00:12:20.54\00:12:24.21 upon Jesus," and he saw Jesus at His trial and he gave 00:12:24.24\00:12:29.34 his heart to Him and I'm really looking forward 00:12:29.38\00:12:32.71 to meeting Manaen in the Kingdom of Heaven, are you? 00:12:32.75\00:12:36.42 We're all going to be there, thank you boys and girls! 00:12:36.45\00:12:39.15 Come on in and join us for our Bible study! 00:12:39.52\00:12:42.02 Don't forget to grab your Bible, so you can follow along with us. 00:12:42.06\00:12:45.33 Aunty Cecily, can you please say a prayer 00:12:45.36\00:12:47.20 for us to open our study? Yes. 00:12:47.23\00:12:49.63 Dear Heavenly Father... Thank You for our Bibles, 00:12:49.66\00:12:52.43 and we just pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our minds 00:12:52.47\00:12:56.20 and give us understanding as we read from Your word. 00:12:56.24\00:13:00.58 And please bless the children who are joining us 00:13:00.61\00:13:03.18 from home. In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! 00:13:03.21\00:13:07.02 Abigail, do you remember what we studied about last Sabbath? 00:13:07.05\00:13:10.62 David and his sin with Bathsheba. 00:13:10.65\00:13:13.15 Yes, we know that David repented and God forgave him, 00:13:13.19\00:13:16.42 but God could not take away the consequences of David's sin, 00:13:16.46\00:13:20.03 and that is what we're going to study about today 00:13:20.06\00:13:22.73 because it particularly affected his children. 00:13:22.76\00:13:25.47 Okay Erin, you're going to begin our study with 00:13:25.50\00:13:27.97 2 Samuel 12:24-25. 00:13:28.00\00:13:32.17 "Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and went into her 00:13:32.21\00:13:37.75 and lay with her, so she bore a son and he called 00:13:37.78\00:13:41.82 his name "Solomon." 00:13:41.85\00:13:43.18 Now the Lord loved him, and He sent word by the 00:13:43.22\00:13:46.05 hand of Nathan the prophet; 00:13:46.09\00:13:47.92 so he called his name Jedidiah because of the Lord." 00:13:47.96\00:13:52.86 So even though there was great controversy 00:13:52.89\00:13:55.26 surrounding Solomon's birth, God loved him, 00:13:55.30\00:13:59.03 and he was given a special name by God, "Jedidiah," 00:13:59.07\00:14:03.24 which means "beloved by the Lord." 00:14:03.27\00:14:05.64 You know what? God is so good! 00:14:05.67\00:14:07.74 Now because David had lots of children from different 00:14:07.78\00:14:10.75 wives, the children were always in conflict with one another. 00:14:10.78\00:14:14.62 The Bible tells us that Amnon did a great wrong against his 00:14:14.65\00:14:18.99 stepsister Tamar and Absalom killed his stepbrother Ammon 00:14:19.02\00:14:23.09 for what he did. 00:14:23.12\00:14:24.49 Can you remember last Sabbath, we read about David 00:14:24.53\00:14:26.73 pronouncing his own judgment by saying the 00:14:26.76\00:14:28.83 wrongdoer should pay fourfold... 00:14:28.86\00:14:31.13 well this prophesy that David would lose four of his sons 00:14:31.17\00:14:35.17 to death; the first was Bathsheba's first child, 00:14:35.20\00:14:38.57 and now the second was Amnon. 00:14:38.61\00:14:40.44 Abigail, can you read 2 Samuel 13:37 and 39. 00:14:40.48\00:14:46.58 "But Absalom fled and fled to Talmai, the son of 00:14:46.61\00:14:49.22 Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his 00:14:49.25\00:14:52.12 son every day. 00:14:52.15\00:14:53.49 And King David longed to see Absalom for he had 00:14:53.52\00:14:56.22 been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead." 00:14:56.29\00:15:00.23 Thanks Abigail. 00:15:00.26\00:15:01.80 Absalom fled to Geshur and stayed with King Talmai, 00:15:01.83\00:15:05.53 who was actually his grandfather, 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.24 and stayed there 3 years. 00:15:07.27\00:15:09.07 Can you show us where the area "Geshur" is? 00:15:09.10\00:15:11.57 Thank you Aunty Cecily. 00:15:11.61\00:15:13.51 After David had mourned the loss of Amnon, 00:15:13.54\00:15:15.94 he longed to make amends with Absalom. 00:15:15.98\00:15:19.01 Joab, who was David's commander, wanted to help 00:15:19.05\00:15:21.88 with reuniting David and Absalom; this he did and 00:15:21.92\00:15:25.69 David agreed to bring his son back from exile, 00:15:25.72\00:15:28.99 but he was not allowed to speak to his father. 00:15:29.02\00:15:31.69 Bethany, can you read 2 Samuel 14:25-26? Yes. 00:15:31.73\00:15:37.10 "Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised 00:15:37.13\00:15:41.30 as much as Absalom for his good looks. 00:15:41.34\00:15:43.30 From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head 00:15:43.34\00:15:46.17 there was no blemish in him. 00:15:46.21\00:15:48.04 And when he cut the hair of his head, at the end of 00:15:48.08\00:15:50.81 every year, he cut it because it was heavy on him, 00:15:50.85\00:15:53.68 when he cut it, he weighed the hair of his head at 00:15:53.72\00:15:56.58 200 shekels according to the king's standard." 00:15:56.62\00:15:59.75 So Absalom was known for his good looks and beautiful hair. 00:15:59.79\00:16:04.69 Now since being back in Jerusalem, Absalom had not 00:16:04.73\00:16:07.96 seen his father for 2 years. 00:16:08.00\00:16:09.76 If you add up the three years he was in exile, 00:16:09.80\00:16:12.17 he had not seen his father for 5 years... this Absalom 00:16:12.20\00:16:16.30 was getting tired of and demanded to speak to Joab, 00:16:16.34\00:16:19.91 David's commander to find out why. 00:16:19.94\00:16:22.38 Sophie, can you read 2 Samuel 14:33. 00:16:22.41\00:16:26.05 "So Joab went to the king and told him, and when he had 00:16:26.08\00:16:29.38 called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed 00:16:29.42\00:16:32.42 himself on his face to the ground before the king. 00:16:32.45\00:16:35.39 Then the king kissed Absalom." Thanks Sophie. 00:16:35.42\00:16:38.16 Finally reconciliation happened, but on Absalom's 00:16:38.19\00:16:41.93 part was only superficial. 00:16:41.96\00:16:44.47 He had become bitter and was working out ways 00:16:44.50\00:16:47.50 he could overthrow his father. 00:16:47.54\00:16:49.74 Absalom started standing at the main entrance of Jerusalem. 00:16:49.77\00:16:53.31 Let's see what he would say. 00:16:53.34\00:16:54.68 Matthew, can you read 2 Samuel 15:4-6. 00:16:54.71\00:16:59.15 "Moreover Absalom would say, "Oh, that I were made 00:16:59.18\00:17:02.62 judge in the land, and everyone who has any suit 00:17:02.65\00:17:05.49 or cause would come to me; then I would give him justice. 00:17:05.52\00:17:09.22 And so it was, whenever anyone came near to bow down 00:17:09.26\00:17:13.63 to say that, he would put his hand and take him and kiss him. 00:17:13.66\00:17:18.60 In this manner Absalom acted toward all Israel 00:17:18.63\00:17:22.57 who came to the king for judgment. 00:17:22.60\00:17:27.14 So Absalom stole the hearts of the 00:17:27.18\00:17:29.48 men of Israel." Thanks Matthew. 00:17:29.51\00:17:31.78 So, Absalom, unbeknown to his father, 00:17:31.81\00:17:34.68 was undermining David's leadership as king and telling 00:17:34.72\00:17:38.55 the people that, basically, he would do a better job. 00:17:38.59\00:17:42.02 Mia, can you read 2 Samuel 15:13-14. 00:17:42.06\00:17:46.16 "Now a messenger came to David saying, "The hearts of the men 00:17:46.19\00:17:50.07 of Israel are with Absalom." 00:17:50.10\00:17:53.23 So David said to all his servants who were with him 00:17:53.27\00:17:57.14 at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape 00:17:57.17\00:18:01.91 from Absalom. 00:18:01.94\00:18:03.28 Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and 00:18:03.31\00:18:09.48 bring disaster upon us and strike the city 00:18:09.52\00:18:12.52 with the edge of the sword." Thanks Mia. 00:18:12.55\00:18:15.29 So with the threat of his own son in taking over his throne, 00:18:15.32\00:18:19.49 David left Jerusalem with his household and his army 00:18:19.53\00:18:23.40 so his beautiful city would not experience the ravages of war. 00:18:23.43\00:18:27.50 David mourned greatly that he had to leave Jerusalem. 00:18:27.54\00:18:31.87 David knew the reason his son was committing treason 00:18:31.91\00:18:35.31 against him - was the result of his sin with Bathsheba. 00:18:35.34\00:18:39.45 Okay, let's see where they go. 00:18:39.48\00:18:41.15 Aunty Cecily, can you read 2 Samuel 17:24. 00:18:41.18\00:18:46.45 "Then David went to Mahanaim and Absalom crossed over 00:18:46.49\00:18:50.73 the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him." 00:18:50.76\00:18:54.60 Okay, let's have a look on the map where Mahanaim is. 00:18:54.63\00:18:57.00 Aunty Cecily, can you please show us that? 00:18:57.03\00:18:59.10 We've looked at that city before. 00:18:59.13\00:19:01.24 So we just read that Absalom followed in pursuit 00:19:01.27\00:19:03.97 with his men and if we were to read on, the Bible tells us 00:19:04.01\00:19:06.94 that Absalom and his men lost the battle and Absalom died. 00:19:06.98\00:19:11.05 Absalom was David's third son to die in the prophecy. 00:19:11.08\00:19:15.02 The Bible tells us that after after this, 00:19:15.05\00:19:17.39 David returned to Jerusalem to continue his rule as king 00:19:17.42\00:19:20.89 over Israel - let's see what David gets up to next. 00:19:20.92\00:19:25.23 Erin, can you please read 1 Chronicles - we going over 00:19:25.26\00:19:29.53 to 1 Chronicles now... 1 Chronicles 21:2-3, please. 00:19:29.56\00:19:36.00 "So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, 00:19:36.04\00:19:40.04 "Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, 00:19:40.08\00:19:43.31 and bring the number of them to me that I may know it. 00:19:43.35\00:19:47.38 And Joab answered, "May the Lord make His people a 00:19:47.42\00:19:50.79 hundred times more than they are. 00:19:50.82\00:19:52.65 But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? 00:19:52.69\00:19:57.16 Why then does my lord inquire this thing? 00:19:57.19\00:20:00.50 Why should he be a cause of guilt in Israel?" 00:20:00.53\00:20:03.73 Oh dear! David wanted to follow the customs of what the 00:20:03.77\00:20:07.27 nations around him were doing. 00:20:07.30\00:20:09.30 Pride moved on his heart, even Joab, David's commander, 00:20:09.34\00:20:13.81 knew that they shouldn't do this thing. 00:20:13.84\00:20:16.18 Let's look at our torch light, Mrs. White's writings, 00:20:16.21\00:20:19.41 to see what they shine on these verses. 00:20:19.45\00:20:21.82 Abigail, can you please read that for us? 00:20:21.85\00:20:25.52 "The prosperity of Israel under David had been due to the 00:20:25.55\00:20:29.26 blessing of God rather than to the ability of her king 00:20:29.29\00:20:33.03 or strength of her armies, but increasing of the military 00:20:33.06\00:20:38.70 resources in the kingdom would give the impression of 00:20:38.73\00:20:42.64 surrounding nations that Israel's trust was in 00:20:42.67\00:20:45.04 her armies not in the power of Jehovah." Thanks Abigail. 00:20:45.07\00:20:48.61 God wanted the nation of Israel to depend on Him 00:20:48.64\00:20:52.11 to fight their battles. 00:20:52.15\00:20:53.75 He didn't want them to depend on the numbers of 00:20:53.78\00:20:56.02 their army, but David was insistent. 00:20:56.05\00:20:58.72 Bethany, can you read 1 Chronicles 21:7-8, please. 00:20:58.75\00:21:03.69 "And God was displeased with this thing; 00:21:03.73\00:21:06.80 therefore, He struck Israel. 00:21:06.83\00:21:08.53 So David said to God, "I have sinned greatly because I have 00:21:08.56\00:21:12.47 done this thing, but now I pray, take away the iniquity 00:21:12.50\00:21:17.54 of Your servant for I have done very foolishly." 00:21:17.57\00:21:20.88 Again David realized what he had done and repented. 00:21:20.91\00:21:24.18 God sent the prophet Gad to David and God gave David 00:21:24.21\00:21:28.58 three choices of punishment; either 3 years of famine, 00:21:28.62\00:21:32.49 3 months of war with his enemies, or 3 days 00:21:32.52\00:21:36.26 punishment from God." 00:21:36.29\00:21:38.39 Sophie, can you read 1 Chronicles 21:13. 00:21:38.43\00:21:42.53 "And David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. 00:21:42.56\00:21:46.20 Please let me fall into the hand of the Lord, 00:21:46.23\00:21:48.84 for His mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into 00:21:48.87\00:21:52.24 the hand of man." 00:21:52.27\00:21:53.88 So David decided that he would much rather receive 00:21:53.91\00:21:57.11 punishment from God than from man because he knew 00:21:57.15\00:22:00.62 God was more merciful. 00:22:00.65\00:22:02.52 Let's look at our memory verse in Ephesians 2:4, 00:22:02.55\00:22:07.52 and let's read that together. 00:22:07.56\00:22:09.86 Ya got that? 00:22:11.83\00:22:13.16 "But God who is rich in mercy because of His great love 00:22:13.19\00:22:18.93 with which He loved us..." 00:22:18.97\00:22:21.67 So because of God's great love for us, 00:22:21.70\00:22:23.81 He shows us great mercies. 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.74 Matthew, can you please read 1 Chronicles 21:14-16. 00:22:25.77\00:22:32.95 "So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel, 00:22:32.98\00:22:36.45 and 70,000 men of Israel fell. 00:22:36.48\00:22:39.35 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. 00:22:39.39\00:22:42.56 As he was destroying, the Lord looked and relented 00:22:42.59\00:22:47.93 of the disaster, He said to the angel who was 00:22:47.96\00:22:50.53 destroy, "It is enough; now restrain your hand." 00:22:50.57\00:22:54.34 And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshing floor 00:22:54.37\00:22:58.21 of Ornan the Jebusite. 00:22:58.24\00:23:01.08 Then David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord 00:23:01.11\00:23:05.71 standing between earth and heaven, having in his hand 00:23:05.75\00:23:09.22 a drawn sword stretched out over Jerusalem. 00:23:09.25\00:23:12.52 So David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, 00:23:12.55\00:23:17.86 and fell on their faces." Thanks Matthew. 00:23:17.89\00:23:23.06 David was greatly humbled that 70,000 00:23:23.10\00:23:25.77 had died because of his sin. 00:23:25.80\00:23:28.27 God directed David to build an altar to God at the 00:23:28.30\00:23:31.47 threshing floor of Ornan and offered burnt offerings 00:23:31.51\00:23:35.38 and peace offerings to God. 00:23:35.41\00:23:36.98 This David did and God accepted the offerings 00:23:37.01\00:23:39.98 with fire from heaven. 00:23:40.02\00:23:41.62 We serve such a merciful God. 00:23:41.65\00:23:44.09 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. 00:23:44.12\00:23:46.76 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 00:23:46.79\00:23:49.66 than what we studied today. 00:23:49.69\00:23:51.33 Here's how you can get that... 00:23:51.36\00:23:53.29 Hey boys and girls, as Aunty Nat said, 00:23:53.33\00:23:55.60 you can get your own devotionals. 00:23:55.63\00:23:56.97 Yes, you can download them free from our website at: 00:23:57.00\00:23:59.50 adaywiththeking.com 00:23:59.53\00:24:00.90 and Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids to 00:24:00.94\00:24:03.04 check out Teddy's blog. 00:24:03.07\00:24:04.41 We have some behind the scenes photos of filming the programs. 00:24:04.44\00:24:07.38 Yes, and we also have some photos of Teddy going 00:24:07.41\00:24:10.25 on his annual visit to the vet. 00:24:10.28\00:24:11.78 We love to hear where in the world 00:24:11.81\00:24:13.72 you're watching the programs from, 00:24:13.75\00:24:15.15 so drop us a line and let us know. 00:24:15.18\00:24:16.58 Get a pen and write down our email address now: 00:24:16.62\00:24:19.69 dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au 00:24:19.72\00:24:23.56 So hop on line today! 00:24:23.59\00:24:25.73 Thanks Kate and Dana! 00:24:25.76\00:24:27.50 Boys and girls, perhaps there's someone you can share 00:24:27.53\00:24:30.27 one of the devotionals with to help them understand 00:24:30.30\00:24:33.37 how much God loves them. 00:24:33.40\00:24:35.20 Aunty Net, can you tell us what we're going 00:24:35.24\00:24:36.91 to be studying about next week? 00:24:36.94\00:24:38.64 Yes, next Sabbath, we are going to study about a king 00:24:38.67\00:24:42.01 who asked for something special from God. 00:24:42.04\00:24:44.98 We look forward to studying that with you again next week. 00:24:45.01\00:24:47.65 Aunty Cecily, shall we go over the memory verse 00:24:47.68\00:24:49.62 we learned in our Bible study today?
