Yes. 00:02:53.40\00:02:57.07 "Make a card and give it to your Sabbath School teacher 00:02:57.11\00:03:00.68 to tell them how much you appreciate them." 00:03:00.71\00:03:02.98 Oh I'm sure they'd be very blessed by being told 00:03:03.01\00:03:05.75 that you appreciate them, what do you think Aunty Nat? 00:03:05.78\00:03:08.32 Oh, I think we don't do enough in stopping and thanking 00:03:08.35\00:03:11.25 God for placing such valuable people 00:03:11.29\00:03:13.79 in our lives to help us on our journey. 00:03:13.82\00:03:16.06 I think making a card to show how much we appreciate 00:03:16.09\00:03:19.29 them is a wonderful idea. 00:03:19.33\00:03:20.90 Now Aunty Cecily, you have something 00:03:20.93\00:03:22.63 to share with us as well. 00:03:22.66\00:03:24.10 You know we spoke last Sabbath about the 00:03:24.13\00:03:27.14 wonderful bodies that Jesus will give us when He returns, 00:03:27.17\00:03:31.41 but to remind us how much He loves us. 00:03:31.44\00:03:34.18 Jesus will retain for eternity the scars 00:03:34.21\00:03:37.81 that He received when dying on the cross. 00:03:37.85\00:03:40.72 We serve an amazing God. 00:03:40.75\00:03:43.42 Later in our Bible study, we'll discover what happened 00:03:43.45\00:03:46.99 to David when he was running away from Saul. 00:03:47.02\00:03:50.56 At times, David was in fear of his life. 00:03:50.59\00:03:53.86 Do you know, in heaven there'll be no more fear 00:03:53.90\00:03:56.97 or sadness. 00:03:57.00\00:03:58.33 There'll also be no more jealousy or violence, 00:03:58.37\00:04:01.57 and heaven will be a perfect place without sin. 00:04:01.60\00:04:05.44 It's hard for us to imagine, isn't it? Yes. 00:04:05.47\00:04:08.71 No, no one will be hurt anymore, 00:04:08.74\00:04:11.85 and no one will hurt anyone else anymore. 00:04:11.88\00:04:14.72 Revelation 21:4 says, "And God will wipe away every tear 00:04:14.75\00:04:20.39 from their eyes and they'll be no more death, 00:04:20.42\00:04:23.43 nor sorrow, nor crying and they'll be no more pain 00:04:23.46\00:04:28.20 for the former things have passed away." 00:04:28.23\00:04:30.93 Isn't that wonderful? 00:04:30.97\00:04:33.27 Do you know, the animals will not hurt one another either. 00:04:33.30\00:04:37.54 Listen to Isaiah 65:25: "The wolf and the lamb 00:04:37.57\00:04:42.81 shall feed together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox; 00:04:42.84\00:04:47.12 and the dust shall be the serpent's food. 00:04:47.15\00:04:49.88 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain," 00:04:49.92\00:04:54.79 says the Lord." 00:04:54.82\00:04:56.16 It's going to be a very safe place to live. 00:04:56.19\00:05:00.16 Imagine playing with animals all day and having no fear 00:05:00.20\00:05:04.20 of being hurt. 00:05:04.23\00:05:06.03 I'm putting my order in for a pet lion! Laughter. 00:05:06.07\00:05:10.17 Heaven is going to be a wonderful place to be, 00:05:10.21\00:05:12.74 isn't it? So let's believe and trust in God's promises. 00:05:12.77\00:05:16.54 Wow! Thanks Aunty Cecily for sharing that with us. 00:05:16.58\00:05:19.31 It sounds like heaven is going to be a wonderful place! 00:05:19.35\00:05:22.28 I'm especially looking forward 00:05:22.32\00:05:23.85 to spending time in eternity with Jesus. 00:05:23.89\00:05:26.79 Oh, look who has just arrived! 00:05:26.82\00:05:28.52 Pastor Rick, you are such a blessing to us! 00:05:28.56\00:05:30.49 Thank you for joining us in our worship time. 00:05:30.53\00:05:32.59 I'm so glad to be here at worship time, 00:05:32.63\00:05:34.83 particularly the Sabbath cause that is just a wonderful time. 00:05:34.86\00:05:37.53 And I have a song called, "We Gather to Meet With the King." 00:05:37.57\00:05:41.07 Can we sing it together, please? Yes! Okay. 00:05:41.10\00:05:44.21 Pastor Rick, can we please sing "Jesus is Coming?" 00:06:24.18\00:06:27.82 We certainly can. "Jesus is Coming Again" 00:06:27.85\00:06:32.32 Pastor Rick, can we please sing "God is So Good?" 00:07:29.78\00:07:33.15 Hmm, is God good? Yes! We can sing that then. 00:07:33.18\00:07:37.29 Ready? 00:07:41.62\00:07:45.59 Thanks Pastor Rick, we really enjoy your company 00:08:26.80\00:08:29.70 and your music. 00:08:29.74\00:08:31.07 And we never get tired of Dr. John's stories, do we? 00:08:31.11\00:08:35.78 He knows so many stories, let's go and see 00:08:35.81\00:08:38.81 if he has another one for us. 00:08:38.85\00:08:40.52 Hello boys and girls! I'm Dr. John, 00:08:41.58\00:08:43.18 and welcome to story time, and to all the other 00:08:43.22\00:08:46.05 boys and girls, we're really glad that you can be with us. 00:08:46.09\00:08:49.22 You know, of all the mission stories that are about 00:08:49.26\00:08:51.63 the Pacific Islands and lots of far places away, 00:08:51.66\00:08:55.10 but we have a mission field here in Australia 00:08:55.13\00:08:59.13 where the cleverest people you would ever imagine live, 00:08:59.17\00:09:03.30 and they are the Aboriginals. 00:09:03.34\00:09:04.84 And I have visited our Aboriginals in our schools 00:09:04.87\00:09:07.64 and I love going back because they are so smart! 00:09:07.68\00:09:11.65 I learned a lesson from them one day. 00:09:11.68\00:09:14.12 I had my phone which was a GPS and I went out in the bush, 00:09:14.15\00:09:18.62 and I found a tree stump and I put a 2-dollar coin 00:09:18.65\00:09:22.62 on the tree stump and I marked it on the GPS 00:09:22.66\00:09:25.53 and I went back to the school at Karaundi. 00:09:25.56\00:09:28.50 And I got all the boys and the girls and I said, 00:09:28.53\00:09:30.87 "Out there in the bush is a 2- dollar coin, 00:09:30.90\00:09:34.74 and this is how you find it with the GPS if you follow 00:09:34.77\00:09:38.27 the little dotted lines." 00:09:38.31\00:09:40.11 And the boys grabbed it and they said, "Shove off girls, 00:09:40.14\00:09:43.61 this is boys' stuff - we're going to find the money." 00:09:43.65\00:09:47.25 And they wouldn't let them and off they went, 00:09:47.28\00:09:49.48 and the boys were all arguing amongst themselves, 00:09:49.52\00:09:52.89 and the girls went off and found the money! 00:09:52.92\00:09:56.26 And I said, "How did you find the money without a GPS?" 00:09:56.29\00:09:59.23 "Sir, we just followed your tracks!" 00:09:59.26\00:10:01.63 They are so good at following tracks. 00:10:01.66\00:10:04.87 And this story is about Daisy and her two friends 00:10:04.90\00:10:08.84 who lived way up in a settlement called "Jigalong," 00:10:08.87\00:10:13.24 past Karaundi, way over in West Australia, 00:10:13.27\00:10:16.44 way out in the desert. 00:10:16.48\00:10:18.15 And one day, policemen came and grabbed the three girls, 00:10:18.18\00:10:23.39 and they said, "You are not being looked after, 00:10:23.42\00:10:26.62 you will go with us and you will go down to a settlement 00:10:26.65\00:10:29.49 hundreds and hundreds of kilometers away, 00:10:29.52\00:10:32.89 600 kilometers away and there you will live, 00:10:32.93\00:10:37.23 and we will look after you and you will grow up, 00:10:37.27\00:10:40.40 and you will never see your family again because 00:10:40.44\00:10:42.84 they're not very good. 00:10:42.87\00:10:44.21 And these three poor girls 00:10:44.24\00:10:46.61 who were only between 8 and 14 years of age, 00:10:46.64\00:10:49.61 were put in a dormitory, but they didn't stay long. 00:10:49.64\00:10:55.02 They were smart Aboriginal girls! 00:10:55.05\00:10:58.12 And when no one was looking, they sneaked out, 00:10:58.15\00:11:01.76 and they ran, and they ran, and they ran. 00:11:01.79\00:11:05.09 And there were people looking for them, chasing them, 00:11:05.13\00:11:08.86 but they were smarter and they walked until they got to a fence 00:11:08.90\00:11:14.44 and they knew they had found the rabbit-proof fence. 00:11:15.40\00:11:20.11 You see, they had built this long fence with chicken wire 00:11:20.14\00:11:24.85 over a thousand kilometers long, to stop the rabbits 00:11:24.88\00:11:28.82 getting into West Australia. 00:11:28.85\00:11:31.09 And they knew that if they followed that fence 00:11:31.12\00:11:34.46 for long enough, they would get back to Jigalong, 00:11:34.49\00:11:37.23 and away they went! 00:11:37.26\00:11:38.59 You know, here is what Daisy might have looked like. 00:11:38.63\00:11:44.77 Quite a pretty little girl and those Aborigines, 00:11:45.53\00:11:49.50 you know, they had weapons. 00:11:49.54\00:11:52.24 Sometimes they would be beaten with a big stick 00:11:52.27\00:11:55.24 called a "nula nula." 00:11:55.28\00:11:57.05 And over here we have a "woomera" 00:11:57.08\00:12:02.22 for throwing spears. 00:12:02.25\00:12:04.19 You put the spear in there and throw it and we've 00:12:04.22\00:12:07.12 got a spear and I've got something that I can't 00:12:07.16\00:12:10.03 let you touch because it was only for men. 00:12:10.06\00:12:13.93 And this is called a "bullroarer." 00:12:13.96\00:12:17.33 And these all come from the Jigalong - they were given 00:12:17.37\00:12:21.34 to my uncle and grandfather many years ago. 00:12:21.37\00:12:24.64 And when a girl hears a bullroarer, 00:12:24.67\00:12:27.31 they are supposed to run away. 00:12:27.34\00:12:29.81 And you know, they tie a string and they wear it 00:12:29.84\00:12:33.21 around their head and it makes a roaring noise. 00:12:33.25\00:12:35.92 But those girls, they walked for days and weeks, 00:12:35.95\00:12:41.56 and they were so determined that they were going to get 00:12:41.59\00:12:44.73 home and nobody would stop them and finally they got home. 00:12:44.76\00:12:50.37 And they actually made a film about them and it is called, 00:12:50.40\00:12:54.67 "The Rabbit-Proof Fence," and this is what 00:12:54.70\00:12:58.47 the girls look like as they got older. 00:12:58.51\00:13:02.28 They weren't quite so pretty because they lived out 00:13:02.31\00:13:04.78 in the sun and they were very poor. 00:13:04.81\00:13:07.05 And one of them is still alive, here name is "Daisy," 00:13:07.08\00:13:11.82 and she wrote her life story in 23 words. 00:13:11.85\00:13:18.23 That was all she could do and she attended our school 00:13:18.26\00:13:21.56 and her children at Wiluna which is near Karaundi 00:13:21.60\00:13:25.97 I come from Jigalong, they took me away but I walked 00:13:26.00\00:13:30.14 all around country back to where I was born - I came back. 00:13:30.17\00:13:34.71 That is a very moving story. 00:13:34.74\00:13:37.85 She went home and we are captured by the devil 00:13:37.88\00:13:42.28 and we are going home and Jesus is waiting for us. 00:13:42.32\00:13:46.05 Thank you boys and girls! 00:13:46.09\00:13:47.99 Hi boys and girls, welcome to our Bible study! 00:13:48.29\00:13:51.29 If you haven't got your Bibles ready yet, 00:13:51.33\00:13:53.19 go get them now so you can read along with us. 00:13:53.23\00:13:55.66 Aunty Cecily, would you like to 00:13:55.70\00:13:57.03 say a prayer for us please? Yes, I'd love to. 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.63 Dear Father in Heaven... We thank You so much 00:13:59.67\00:14:02.44 for the privilege of having free access to our Bibles 00:14:02.47\00:14:05.77 where we can learn about You. 00:14:05.81\00:14:07.51 We just pray that You'd help us to understand the things 00:14:07.54\00:14:10.68 we read and give us a heart to follow You, we pray, 00:14:10.71\00:14:14.35 and please bless all the boys and girls at home who are 00:14:14.38\00:14:17.32 joining us. In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! 00:14:17.35\00:14:20.89 Now Bethany, we studied about Samuel last week, 00:14:20.92\00:14:24.36 and how he anointed someone to be the next king, 00:14:25.36\00:14:27.10 can you remember who that was? 00:14:27.13\00:14:28.46 David... Yes it was David. 00:14:28.50\00:14:30.17 And do you know what, today we're going to find out 00:14:30.20\00:14:32.27 what happens to David because he gets up to some adventures. 00:14:32.30\00:14:36.04 Okay, Anna can you please read 1 Samuel 19:1-2. 00:14:36.07\00:14:41.04 "Now Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants 00:14:41.08\00:14:46.21 that they should kill David, but Jonathan, Saul's son, 00:14:46.25\00:14:49.78 delighted greatly in David. 00:14:49.82\00:14:51.85 So Jonathan told David, saying, "My father Saul seeks to 00:14:51.89\00:14:55.36 kill you. Therefore please be on your guard until morning, 00:14:55.39\00:14:58.96 and stay in a secret place and hide." 00:14:58.99\00:15:01.36 So Saul is jealous of David and his popularity with the people 00:15:01.40\00:15:06.74 that he wants him dead. 00:15:06.77\00:15:09.17 But Jonathan warns David to hide 00:15:09.20\00:15:11.57 until he can talk to his father. 00:15:11.61\00:15:13.88 So Jonathan points out to his father, "David has done 00:15:13.91\00:15:16.95 no wrong and does not deserve to die." 00:15:16.98\00:15:20.02 Saul listens to his son, Jonathan, and David is 00:15:20.05\00:15:23.12 able to come back and Saul promises not to kill him. 00:15:23.15\00:15:27.16 Okay, but something happens. 00:15:27.19\00:15:30.09 You know what, David went out to war again and he gained 00:15:30.13\00:15:33.50 a great victory over the Philistines; jealousy bruising 00:15:33.53\00:15:37.33 Saul's heart again and for the second time, 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.44 Saul tries to spear David to the wall - tries to pin him 00:15:40.47\00:15:44.64 to the wall with his spear. 00:15:44.67\00:15:46.41 Let's see where David runs to, Caleb, you read 1 Samuel 19:18. 00:15:46.44\00:15:52.18 "So David fled and escaped and went to Samuel at Ramah, 00:15:52.21\00:15:57.32 and told him all that Saul had done to him. 00:15:57.35\00:16:00.86 And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth. Thanks Caleb. 00:16:00.89\00:16:07.46 So David finds relief from persecution from Saul 00:16:07.50\00:16:10.67 with Samuel. 00:16:10.70\00:16:12.03 Here, David spent quiet communion with the prophet. 00:16:12.07\00:16:15.27 Okay, let's see what happens next. 00:16:15.30\00:16:17.04 J. J., can you read 1 Samuel 21:1-3? Yep. 00:16:17.07\00:16:22.61 "Now David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. 00:16:23.45\00:16:28.85 And Ahimelech was afraid when he met David, and said to him, 00:16:28.88\00:16:34.42 "Why are you alone, and no one is with you?" 00:16:34.46\00:16:37.53 So David said to Ahimelech the priest, "The king has ordered 00:16:37.56\00:16:42.53 me on some business, and said to me, "Do not let anyone 00:16:42.56\00:16:49.54 know anything about the business on which I send you, 00:16:49.57\00:16:53.61 or what I have commanded you. 00:16:53.64\00:16:57.05 And I have directed my young men to such and such a place. 00:16:57.08\00:17:04.19 Now therefore, what have you on hand? 00:17:04.22\00:17:06.55 Give me five loaves of bread in my hand, 00:17:06.59\00:17:09.86 or whatever can be found." Thanks J. J. 00:17:09.89\00:17:13.13 So did the king send it? No, he didn't send him. 00:17:13.16\00:17:17.17 Do you know what? David's faith is faltering. 00:17:17.20\00:17:19.47 The high priest tells David, the only bread available 00:17:19.50\00:17:22.87 is the holy bread or the showbread inside the tabernacle 00:17:22.90\00:17:26.61 which the priest gives him. 00:17:26.64\00:17:28.18 Do you know what? If David had been honest 00:17:28.21\00:17:29.54 with the high priest, the priest would have known what to do, 00:17:29.58\00:17:32.35 and perhaps a different course would have been pursued. 00:17:32.38\00:17:35.55 Aunt Cecily, can you read 1 Samuel 21:7. 00:17:35.58\00:17:39.39 "Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was 00:17:39.42\00:17:42.69 there that day detained before the Lord and his name was 00:17:42.72\00:17:47.13 Doeg, an Edomite, the chief of the herdsmen 00:17:47.16\00:17:51.10 who belonged to Saul." 00:17:51.13\00:17:52.60 Okay, just tuck that little bit of information away 00:17:52.63\00:17:55.27 and we'll talk about that soon. 00:17:55.30\00:17:56.64 Anna, can you please read 1 Samuel 21:8-9. 00:17:56.67\00:18:01.74 "And David said to Ahimelech, "Is there not here on hand 00:18:01.78\00:18:08.15 a spear or a sword? For I have brought neither my sword 00:18:08.18\00:18:12.35 nor my weapons with me, because the king's 00:18:12.39\00:18:14.59 business required haste." 00:18:14.62\00:18:16.96 So the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, 00:18:16.99\00:18:20.73 whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, 00:18:20.76\00:18:24.33 wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. 00:18:24.37\00:18:26.43 If you will take that, take it. 00:18:26.47\00:18:29.20 For there is no other except that one here." 00:18:29.24\00:18:33.54 And David said, "There is none like it; give it to me." 00:18:33.58\00:18:38.18 So David takes Goliath's sword and flees! 00:18:38.21\00:18:42.35 Let's look at our torch light, Mrs. White's writings, 00:18:42.38\00:18:45.25 and Matthew, you're going to read that, 00:18:45.29\00:18:47.32 and see what that shines on what we've just been reading. 00:18:47.36\00:18:50.99 "As trial came upon him, his faith was shaken and 00:18:52.93\00:18:57.30 human weakness appeared. 00:18:57.33\00:18:58.97 He saw in every man a spy and a betrayer. 00:18:59.00\00:19:01.90 For as he had been hunted and persecuted, perplexity and 00:19:01.94\00:19:06.44 distress had nearly hidden his Heavenly Father from his sight. 00:19:06.47\00:19:11.18 Yet this experience was serving to teach David wisdom; 00:19:11.21\00:19:14.52 for it led him to realize his weakness and the necessity of 00:19:14.55\00:19:19.15 constant dependence upon God. Thanks Matthew. 00:19:19.19\00:19:22.82 Do you know, we can learn so much from David's mistakes 00:19:22.86\00:19:25.83 by learning to trust God no matter how much the 00:19:25.86\00:19:29.56 world is against us. 00:19:29.60\00:19:31.73 Meanwhile, Saul is complaining to his servants that everyone 00:19:31.77\00:19:34.77 is against him including his son, Jonathan. 00:19:34.80\00:19:37.67 Now remember that we read about a man named Doeg, 00:19:37.71\00:19:42.01 back in 1 Samuel 21:7- Caleb, let's continue to read 00:19:42.04\00:19:46.35 and see what happens. 1 Samuel 22:9-10. 00:19:46.38\00:19:49.68 "Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over 00:19:49.72\00:19:54.92 the servants of Saul, and said, "I saw the son of Jesse going 00:19:54.96\00:19:59.56 to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. 00:19:59.59\00:20:06.00 And he inquired of the Lord for him, gave him provisions 00:20:06.03\00:20:10.81 and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine." 00:20:10.84\00:20:13.78 So Doeg, who because of his ambition and cruelty, 00:20:13.81\00:20:17.08 told Saul of the incident of the high priest helping David 00:20:17.11\00:20:20.78 with food and giving him Goliath's sword. 00:20:20.82\00:20:23.25 Saul was enraged. 00:20:23.28\00:20:25.19 J. J., let's read 1 Samuel 22:17-18. 00:20:25.22\00:20:29.79 "Then the king said to the guards who stood about him, 00:20:29.82\00:20:34.23 "Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand 00:20:34.26\00:20:38.53 also is with David, and because they knew when he fled 00:20:38.57\00:20:42.30 and did not tell it to me." 00:20:42.34\00:20:44.17 But the servants of the king would not lift their 00:20:44.21\00:20:47.11 hands to strike the priests of the Lord. 00:20:47.14\00:20:50.68 And the king said to Doeg, "You turn and kill the 00:20:50.71\00:20:55.78 priests!" So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck 00:20:55.82\00:21:00.09 the priests, and killed on that day, 00:21:00.12\00:21:03.99 85 men who wore a linen ephod." 00:21:04.03\00:21:09.80 Umm, a linen ephod, yes. Thank you J. J. 00:21:09.83\00:21:13.60 It's interesting that even Saul's own servants 00:21:13.64\00:21:16.71 wouldn't do this terrible act! 00:21:16.74\00:21:18.97 All of Israel was horrified that a king they insisted 00:21:19.01\00:21:22.61 on having, because they wanted to be like other nations, 00:21:22.64\00:21:26.05 would do such a thing. 00:21:26.08\00:21:27.72 Okay, Aunt Cecily, 1 Samuel 23:14 and 16-18, 00:21:27.75\00:21:33.69 can you read that please. 00:21:33.72\00:21:35.72 "And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness 00:21:35.76\00:21:39.03 and remained in the mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. 00:21:39.06\00:21:42.80 Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him 00:21:42.83\00:21:47.20 into his hand. 00:21:47.24\00:21:48.97 Then Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David 00:21:49.00\00:21:52.67 in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. 00:21:52.71\00:21:55.58 And he said to him, "Do not fear, for the hand of Saul 00:21:55.61\00:21:59.75 my father shall not find you. 00:21:59.78\00:22:01.65 You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. 00:22:01.68\00:22:07.09 Even my father Saul knows that." 00:22:07.12\00:22:10.09 So the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. 00:22:10.13\00:22:13.13 And David stayed in the woods, 00:22:13.16\00:22:15.23 and Jonathan went to his own house." 00:22:15.26\00:22:18.13 Umm, so Jonathan came and encouraged David, 00:22:18.17\00:22:22.40 and they spent time together communing as good friends. 00:22:22.44\00:22:25.94 Anna, can you please read 1 Samuel 24:2-4. 00:22:25.97\00:22:31.08 "Then Saul took 3,000 chosen men from all Israel 00:22:31.11\00:22:35.22 and went to seek David and his 00:22:35.25\00:22:37.32 men on the rocks of the wild goats. 00:22:37.35\00:22:40.12 So he came to the sheepfolds by the road, where there was a 00:22:40.16\00:22:43.86 cave; and Saul went in to attend to his needs. 00:22:43.89\00:22:46.83 David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave. 00:22:46.86\00:22:50.90 Then the men of David said to him, 00:22:50.93\00:22:54.00 "This is the day of which the Lord said to you, 00:22:54.04\00:22:56.81 "Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, 00:22:56.84\00:22:59.67 that you may do to him as it seems good to you." 00:22:59.71\00:23:03.01 And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul's robe. 00:23:03.04\00:23:07.68 So David had an opportunity to kill Saul and is encouraged 00:23:07.72\00:23:12.85 by his men to do so. 00:23:12.89\00:23:14.39 But all David did was cut off a little corner of his robe. 00:23:14.42\00:23:18.96 Do you know even though David had been greatly 00:23:18.99\00:23:21.03 persecuted by Saul, he was anointed by God to be king. 00:23:21.06\00:23:25.57 David decided that he was not going to be the one 00:23:25.60\00:23:28.40 to take his life. 00:23:28.44\00:23:29.90 David comes out of the cave, after Saul leaves, 00:23:29.94\00:23:32.71 and speaks to him. 00:23:32.74\00:23:34.08 Bethany, can you read 1 Samuel 24:16-17 and 20. 00:23:34.11\00:23:38.55 "So it was, when David had finished speaking these words 00:23:38.58\00:23:41.65 to Saul, that Saul said, "Is this your voice, my son 00:23:41.68\00:23:44.82 David?" And Saul lifted up his voice and wept. 00:23:44.85\00:23:47.72 Then he said to David, "You are more righteous than I; 00:23:47.76\00:23:50.83 for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have 00:23:50.86\00:23:53.80 rewarded you with evil. 00:23:53.83\00:23:55.30 And now I know indeed that you shall surely be king, 00:23:55.33\00:23:58.67 and that the kingdom of Israel shall be 00:23:58.70\00:24:03.77 established in your hand." 00:24:03.81\00:24:05.71 So Saul was humbled by this act and realizes and admits 00:24:05.74\00:24:09.11 that God has indeed anointed him as the next king. 00:24:09.14\00:24:12.58 Kate, can you please read 1 Samuel 25:1. 00:24:12.61\00:24:17.59 "Then Samuel died and the Israelites gathered 00:24:17.62\00:24:20.89 together and lamented for him and buried him 00:24:20.92\00:24:24.26 at his home in Ramah. 00:24:24.29\00:24:25.99 And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran." 00:24:26.03\00:24:31.43 Thanks Kate. 00:24:31.47\00:24:32.80 So it wasn't until Samuel died did the Israelites realize 00:24:32.83\00:24:36.40 their folly in wanting a king to rule them instead of Samuel. 00:24:36.44\00:24:40.11 It was Samuel who had taught them to love and obey God. 00:24:40.14\00:24:43.58 Saul was now ruling with madness and strife and confusion. 00:24:43.61\00:24:47.78 Saul had become selfish and was only looking out for himself, 00:24:47.82\00:24:52.42 not the well-being of his nation and their relationship with God. 00:24:52.45\00:24:56.89 Samuel was a great loss to Israel. 00:24:56.93\00:24:59.43 Let's read our memory verse together in Micah 6:8. 00:24:59.46\00:25:04.53 Are you ready? 00:25:06.27\00:25:07.60 Do you think that sums up Samuel's life?
