Hello there. Happy Sabbath. Come on in. We're about to meet 00:00:03.10\00:00:08.17 with the King. 00:00:08.20\00:00:09.54 ¤ ¤ 00:00:09.57\00:00:54.58 Hello, I'm Auntie Nat. It's great you could all join us to 00:00:54.65\00:00:57.69 meet with the King. We're about 00:00:57.72\00:00:59.42 to open the Sabbath. Come and 00:00:59.45\00:01:01.09 join our worship time together. Hello Auntie Cecily. 00:01:01.12\00:01:04.29 Hello Auntie Nat. 00:01:04.33\00:01:05.66 Thanks for joining us. And hello children. It's great to see you 00:01:05.69\00:01:09.50 here too. It's great to be able to meet and worship the King. 00:01:09.53\00:01:12.97 Auntie Cecily, would you please say a prayer for us to open our 00:01:13.03\00:01:16.44 worship time. 00:01:16.47\00:01:18.57 Yes. Dear Father in heaven we thank you that we can come and 00:01:18.64\00:01:22.04 worship you again on another Sabbath and we pray that you 00:01:22.11\00:01:26.18 would bless our hearts and minds. For Jesus' sake, Amen. 00:01:26.21\00:01:30.19 Amen. Do you know this is a great time to reflect on our 00:01:30.22\00:01:33.76 week and count the blessings that God has sent us. Liam you 00:01:33.82\00:01:37.33 have a blessing for us today. 00:01:37.36\00:01:39.89 My family, they were in a very tough time and we just prayed 00:01:39.93\00:01:45.03 to God and He helped us out of it. 00:01:45.07\00:01:46.97 That's great, Liam. Thanks for sharing that blessing with us. 00:01:47.00\00:01:50.11 Auntie Cecily, you have a blessing to share with us 00:01:50.14\00:01:53.01 about the Sabbath. 00:01:53.04\00:01:54.68 Yes. You know after Jesus died on the cross his disciples 00:01:54.71\00:01:59.65 continued to keep the 00:01:59.68\00:02:01.12 Sabbath as a witness to us of the importance of this 00:02:01.18\00:02:04.69 special day of rest. Sabbath observance was still a big part 00:02:04.72\00:02:09.66 of the disciples lives. The fact that it is mentioned numerous 00:02:09.69\00:02:14.46 times through the book of Acts shows us that God wanted to us 00:02:14.50\00:02:19.23 not to forget it. Do you know that we are also Christ's 00:02:19.27\00:02:25.27 disciples? God wants us to keep the Sabbath like they did. The 00:02:25.31\00:02:30.31 disciples had a special close relationship with Jesus. They 00:02:30.35\00:02:35.38 spent three and a half years with Him. We don't have Jesus in 00:02:35.42\00:02:40.16 the flesh with us, but we have the Bible to show us how to 00:02:40.19\00:02:46.36 live. Jesus promises us in John 20:29 that those of us who 00:02:46.39\00:02:52.50 haven't seen Jesus in the flesh but believe in Him just the same 00:02:52.53\00:02:57.41 will be blessed. Let's claim that promise and believe in the 00:02:57.44\00:03:02.08 Bible and the witness that Jesus and the disciples left for 00:03:02.11\00:03:06.72 us in keeping the Sabbath. 00:03:06.75\00:03:08.42 Amen. Thanks Auntie Cecily. Do you know another way we can 00:03:08.45\00:03:12.85 worship God is through song and we have Pastor Rick here to help 00:03:12.89\00:03:16.69 us. Thanks Pastor Rick. 00:03:18.49\00:03:19.83 Hi boys and girls. Let's sing 00:03:19.86\00:03:21.20 I Have Decided to Follow Jesus. 00:03:21.23\00:03:22.56 Pastor Rick could we please sing I Have the Joy? 00:04:06.64\00:04:10.25 I Have the Joy. Let's do it. 00:04:10.28\00:04:12.38 Pastor Rick can we please sing Seek Ye First? 00:04:47.52\00:04:50.55 Yes, let's do. It's a lovely song. You ready? 00:04:50.59\00:04:53.56 Thanks Pastor Rick. It's great to praise God in song. 00:05:40.67\00:05:43.87 Kate, we had a blessing at Sunnyside this week. Will we 00:05:43.91\00:05:47.04 share that with the children at home. Yes. Okay let's go have 00:05:47.08\00:05:50.21 a look at that. 00:05:50.25\00:05:52.48 Hello boys and girls. My name is Dr. John Hammond. Welcome to 00:05:52.51\00:06:00.62 the Australian home of Mrs. Ellen White. Come with me. 00:06:00.66\00:06:04.76 I've got some stories to tell you. 00:06:04.79\00:06:12.90 Thank you for coming back to listen to the stories about 00:06:12.93\00:06:18.41 Ellen. Ellen was one of the greatest writers the world has 00:06:18.44\00:06:23.45 ever seen. She was probably, I'm going to use a big word, the 00:06:23.48\00:06:28.48 most prolific, in other words she wrote more than any other 00:06:28.52\00:06:33.15 woman ever wrote. Her pile of books, one on top of the other, 00:06:33.19\00:06:37.86 and all her articles written in many languages would reach up 00:06:37.89\00:06:42.73 far higher than the very top of this house. Today if I want to 00:06:42.76\00:06:47.24 write a book, well this is my little invention, I wish it was, 00:06:47.27\00:06:51.84 but this is mine. I turn this on and I can sit in an airplane 00:06:51.87\00:06:56.95 or a train and I can type and it talks to my I phone. Doesn't 00:06:56.98\00:07:01.28 even have to touch. I just type and it comes on the screen. 00:07:01.35\00:07:07.42 It is so easy. Well before they invented computers, we used 00:07:07.46\00:07:13.46 pens and pens are great because you just twist and out comes the 00:07:13.50\00:07:19.57 ink and you can write thousands of words without running out. 00:07:19.60\00:07:25.71 Well before that we had the typewriters. This typewriter is 00:07:25.74\00:07:32.98 nearly 120 years old and you type one letter at a time and 00:07:33.01\00:07:39.29 if you did two at a time they would get jammed. And that 00:07:39.32\00:07:44.66 much good and it cost a lot of money. No computer and you 00:07:44.69\00:07:50.07 just had to slowly type away. Well Ellen when she wrote, she 00:07:50.10\00:07:54.44 wrote she didn't have a typewriter. She had secretaries. 00:07:54.47\00:07:59.07 But she would take some ink and this ink well belonged to my 00:07:59.11\00:08:05.55 grandmother and this is what Ellen used; just a simple pen. 00:08:05.58\00:08:11.99 And they were blotchy, they were scratchy. And I'm going to start 00:08:12.02\00:08:16.56 to write. So I will write Hello my name is Dr., but you know 00:08:16.59\00:08:29.60 as you wrote the ink would be used up and it would have to be 00:08:29.64\00:08:37.95 put back in and you'd put your arm on it and there'd be a 00:08:37.98\00:08:46.22 smudge. You could try and mop it up. If the rain came on it, it 00:08:46.25\00:08:53.09 would smudge. And that, even 100 years ago, was all that you 00:08:53.13\00:08:59.87 had to write with. And you know, she wrote all those books and as 00:08:59.90\00:09:06.68 she wrote, she would send the copy and her secretary would get 00:09:06.71\00:09:13.48 paper in the typewriter. And little Rory Thompson that we 00:09:13.52\00:09:17.95 spoke about in our last story, he learned after his leg got 00:09:17.99\00:09:22.16 better how to use one of these machines and he used to type for 00:09:22.19\00:09:27.66 her. Because Ellen wasn't a very good speller and she would rely 00:09:27.70\00:09:33.54 on her secretaries. While she was here she wrote a book that 00:09:33.57\00:09:38.34 was very, very important and people have said that this book, 00:09:38.37\00:09:46.55 called the Desire of Ages, aside from the Bible, is probably the 00:09:46.58\00:09:51.19 greatest book ever written in the English language. And she 00:09:51.22\00:09:55.46 wrote it while she was living here in Sunnyside. In fact, 00:09:55.49\00:09:59.76 if you go outside you'll see a little sign, a little plaque, 00:09:59.79\00:10:04.17 and it says Under this tree, the tree is gone, it was an old 00:10:04.20\00:10:09.10 pine tree, is where she sat down and she wrote this book and 00:10:09.17\00:10:13.41 Satan didn't like her writing the book because it was all 00:10:13.44\00:10:17.91 about the life of Jesus. Another book she wrote while she was 00:10:17.95\00:10:22.58 here at Sunnyside was this book. How'd you like to buy this book 00:10:22.62\00:10:27.19 second hand. It is very tattered and I'll tell you why it's 00:10:27.22\00:10:32.03 tattered. It's a book called Christ's Object Lessons and in 00:10:32.06\00:10:36.80 1913 a man knocked at my grandmother's door in New 00:10:36.87\00:10:40.74 Zealand and he said I've got a book here written by a lady 00:10:40.77\00:10:44.77 called Ellen and my grandmother bought this and because of that 00:10:44.81\00:10:50.25 she learned to love Jesus and she joined our church and my 00:10:50.28\00:10:55.22 grandfather became a minister. My father was a missionary and 00:10:55.25\00:10:59.75 I worked for the church for all these years because of the 00:10:59.79\00:11:04.86 wonderful work and the wonderful writing of Ellen inspired by 00:11:04.89\00:11:11.00 angels to write for God the story of Jesus Christ. And the 00:11:11.03\00:11:15.90 world is so thankful for what Ellen did and what Ellen wrote 00:11:15.94\00:11:20.78 all with a fountain pen. That's a great story. 00:11:20.81\00:11:24.81 Hi boys and girls. Happy Sabbath I hope you have your Bibles 00:11:24.85\00:11:27.98 ready. It would be good if you could follow along with us. 00:11:28.02\00:11:31.15 Auntie Cecily would you like to say a prayer for us please? 00:11:31.19\00:11:35.32 Dear Father, thank you for our Bibles. May the children's 00:11:35.39\00:11:39.73 hearts be warmed to you and please give us understanding 00:11:39.76\00:11:44.10 as we read your words. In Jesus' name Amen. 00:11:44.13\00:11:48.70 Amen. Now Sarah, what happened last week, what did we study 00:11:48.74\00:11:52.61 about? Jacob. Jacob. And something happened to Jacob. 00:11:52.64\00:11:55.98 Who deceived him? Laban. Laban. And what happened? 00:11:56.04\00:11:59.31 He has two wives instead of one. 00:11:59.38\00:12:01.22 He does, doesn't he? And there became a lot of jealousy and 00:12:01.25\00:12:04.62 strife because there were two wives and as well as the maids. 00:12:04.65\00:12:08.96 They had lots of children and all that jealousy and strife 00:12:08.99\00:12:13.29 affected the 12 personalities of Jacob's sons. And we're going 00:12:13.33\00:12:17.60 read about one son in particular and his name was 00:12:17.63\00:12:21.64 Joseph. Okay, Liam, you've got our first reading. And that 00:12:21.70\00:12:26.57 tells us who they were. Genesis 35:23-26. 00:12:26.61\00:12:31.08 Now the sons of Jacob were 12. The sons of Leah were Reuben, 00:12:31.11\00:12:37.09 Jacob's firstborn and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and 00:12:37.12\00:12:44.79 Zebulon. The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. The sons of 00:12:44.83\00:12:50.43 Bilhah, Rachel's maid servant, were Dan and Naphtali. The sons 00:12:50.47\00:12:56.20 of Zilpah, Leah's maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were 00:12:56.24\00:13:01.94 the sons of Jacob who were born to him an Paddan-aram. 00:13:01.98\00:13:06.01 Wow, so that's 12 sons, that's a lot of children. Let's go over 00:13:06.05\00:13:10.49 their names again. Let's have a look in the Bible. So who was 00:13:10.52\00:13:16.12 the firstborn. Reuben. Reuben. And then there was Simeon, and 00:13:16.16\00:13:22.83 Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulon and then Joseph and Benjamin and 00:13:22.86\00:13:29.27 then Dan and Naphtali and then Gad and Asher. That's a lot of 00:13:29.30\00:13:35.68 boys isn't it? Okay. So today we're going to study about 00:13:35.71\00:13:40.38 Joseph. Now who was Joseph's mother? Rachel. Rachel. And was 00:13:40.42\00:13:45.82 Rachel Jacob's favorite wife. Yes. Unfortunately Jacob favored 00:13:45.85\00:13:50.49 Joseph because he favored Rachel and that caused a lot of problem 00:13:50.53\00:13:55.16 in the family. Ella, can you please read Genesis 37:3-4. 00:13:55.20\00:14:01.24 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all the children because 00:14:01.27\00:14:07.28 he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many 00:14:07.31\00:14:11.78 colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him 00:14:11.81\00:14:16.38 more than all of his brothers, they hated him and could not 00:14:16.42\00:14:20.96 speak peacefully to him. 00:14:20.99\00:14:22.99 Mmm. So Jacob made a very special coat for Joseph and it 00:14:23.02\00:14:26.46 was a coat of many colors. It was the type of coat that people 00:14:26.49\00:14:30.13 of distinction wore. Do you think his brothers were mad 00:14:30.17\00:14:33.13 about that? Yes. They were very mad because they saw that their 00:14:33.17\00:14:36.74 father was favoring Joseph and they were a bit worried that 00:14:36.77\00:14:39.81 perhaps Joseph, who was one of the youngest, was going to take 00:14:39.84\00:14:44.01 birthright instead of one of the oldest. But Joseph was different 00:14:44.05\00:14:48.15 to the other boys. Okay, Ella you're going to read a Torch 00:14:48.18\00:14:51.65 Light now from Mrs. White's writings to see what she has to 00:14:51.69\00:14:55.09 say about that. 00:14:55.12\00:15:00.16 There was one, however, of a widely different character, the 00:15:02.16\00:15:06.10 elder son of Rachel, Joseph, whose rare personal beauty 00:15:06.13\00:15:11.31 seemed to reflect in word, 00:15:11.34\00:15:15.01 beauty of mind and heart, pure active, and joyous. The lad gave 00:15:15.04\00:15:21.52 evidence also of moral, earnest and firmness. He listened to his 00:15:21.55\00:15:28.02 father's instructions and loved to obey God. 00:15:28.06\00:15:31.29 _ that Joseph loved to obey God. But Joseph obeying 00:15:31.33\00:15:37.17 God, do you think that made his brother's even madder. Yes. 00:15:37.20\00:15:40.67 It did. It made them very cross. Okay now Elijah you have our 00:15:40.70\00:15:44.17 next reading for us. Genesis 37:5-8. 00:15:44.21\00:15:48.44 Now Jacob had a dream and he told it to his brothers and they 00:15:48.48\00:15:52.61 hated him even more. So he said to them. Please hear this dream 00:15:52.65\00:15:56.79 which I have dreamed. There we were binding sheaves in the 00:15:56.82\00:16:01.52 field and behold my sheaf arose and also stood upright and 00:16:01.56\00:16:05.33 indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my 00:16:05.36\00:16:09.06 sheaf. And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over 00:16:09.10\00:16:13.44 us; or shall you indeed have dominion over us. They hated him 00:16:13.47\00:16:17.77 even more for his dreams and for his words. 00:16:17.81\00:16:19.57 Mmm. His brothers were very cross with him. Okay, Auntie 00:16:19.94\00:16:23.88 Cecily, can you ready Genesis 37:9-11 please. 00:16:23.91\00:16:27.98 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his 00:16:28.02\00:16:31.82 brothers and said, Look, I have dreamed another dream and this 00:16:31.85\00:16:36.79 time the sun, the moon and the 11 stars bowed down to me. 00:16:36.83\00:16:43.70 Though his told it to his father and his brothers and his father 00:16:43.73\00:16:48.40 rebuked him and said to him what is this dream you have dreamed? 00:16:48.44\00:16:52.91 Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down 00:16:52.94\00:16:58.01 to the earth before you? And his brothers envied him. But his 00:16:58.08\00:17:03.12 father kept the matter in mind. 00:17:03.15\00:17:04.72 So look, I have a picture here of Joseph having a sleep and 00:17:04.75\00:17:09.16 you can see there is the picture of the two dreams. So we have 00:17:09.19\00:17:13.46 the dream of the stars and the moon bowing down before him, 00:17:13.50\00:17:16.77 and the sheaves of wheat bowing down before him. And they are 00:17:16.80\00:17:19.97 the dreams that he had. Do you know what? Even his father in 00:17:20.00\00:17:23.30 the end rebuked him but the Bible said he kept the matter 00:17:23.37\00:17:26.57 in his mind. I think he must have been thinking perhaps God 00:17:26.61\00:17:30.05 is revealing something special to my son. Do you think God was 00:17:30.08\00:17:34.22 revealing something special to Joseph. Yes. He was. So one day 00:17:34.25\00:17:38.35 Joseph's brothers go off with their father's sheep to find 00:17:38.39\00:17:42.62 pasture. And Jacob asked Joseph to do something. Kate, can you 00:17:42.66\00:17:46.83 please read for us in Genesis 37:14-20. 00:17:46.86\00:17:50.70 And he said to him please go and see if it is well with your 00:17:50.77\00:17:54.80 brothers and well with the flocks and bring back word to 00:17:54.84\00:17:58.77 me. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron and he 00:17:58.81\00:18:03.14 went to Shechem. 00:18:03.18\00:18:04.58 Now a certain man found him and there he was wandering in the 00:18:04.61\00:18:09.88 field and the man asked him saying, What are you seeking? 00:18:09.92\00:18:14.66 So he said, I am seeking my brothers. Please tell me where 00:18:14.72\00:18:18.79 they are feeding their flocks. And the man said, They have 00:18:18.83\00:18:24.50 departed from here for I heard them say let us go to Dothan. 00:18:24.53\00:18:30.17 So Joseph went after his brothers and found them in 00:18:30.21\00:18:33.88 Dothan. Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came 00:18:33.91\00:18:39.28 near them they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said 00:18:39.31\00:18:45.32 to one another. Look this dreamer is coming. Come 00:18:45.35\00:18:49.36 therefore let us now kill him and cast him into some pit and 00:18:49.39\00:18:54.00 we shall say, some wild beast has devoured him. We shall see 00:18:54.03\00:18:58.57 what become of his dreams. 00:18:58.60\00:19:00.34 Mmm. So his brothers weren't happy were they? They were so 00:19:00.37\00:19:03.74 angry they wanted to kill him. Where else have we read in the 00:19:03.77\00:19:08.04 Bible about a brother killing a brother? Cain and Abel. That's 00:19:08.08\00:19:12.31 right. And Cain killed Abel because he was cross at Abel 00:19:12.35\00:19:16.22 for being obedient. And is the same thing happening here? Yes. 00:19:16.25\00:19:20.09 The brothers realized that God was bestowing a special 00:19:20.12\00:19:23.39 prophetic inspiration on Joseph but they didn't want to know 00:19:23.43\00:19:26.86 about it. They did not want to repent and leave their evil ways 00:19:26.90\00:19:29.66 And every time they looked at Joseph, they were just so cross 00:19:29.70\00:19:32.43 because they didn't want to change. But do you now what? 00:19:32.47\00:19:36.84 God called Reuben to intervene and he talked his brothers into 00:19:36.87\00:19:40.08 not killing Joseph. Let's see what happened. Nick can you 00:19:40.11\00:19:44.08 please read Genesis 37:23. 00:19:44.11\00:19:48.88 So it came to pass when Joseph had come to his brothers that 00:19:48.95\00:19:58.99 they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors, 00:19:59.03\00:20:02.70 that was on him. 00:20:02.73\00:20:06.33 Mmm. So they didn't kill him. They threw him into a pit. 00:20:06.37\00:20:09.44 I wonder what happens next. Sarah, can you please read 00:20:09.47\00:20:12.47 Genesis 37:26-28. 00:20:12.51\00:20:15.41 So Judas said to his brothers What profit is there if we kill 00:20:15.44\00:20:19.55 our brother and conceal his blood. Come and let us sell him 00:20:19.61\00:20:23.62 to the Ishmaelite's and let not our hand be upon him, for he is 00:20:23.65\00:20:28.32 our brother and our flesh. And his brothers listened. Then 00:20:28.36\00:20:32.89 Midianite traders passed by, so the brothers pulled Joseph up 00:20:32.93\00:20:37.07 and lifted him out of the pit and sold him to the Israelites 00:20:37.10\00:20:41.34 for 20 shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt. 00:20:41.37\00:20:45.54 What a terrible thing. Imagine selling your brother or sister 00:20:45.57\00:20:49.24 as a slave. Goodness me. But God intervened. They didn't kill 00:20:49.28\00:20:52.95 him, they sold him. Okay Auntie Cecily can you please read our 00:20:52.98\00:20:56.58 next verse for us. Genesis 37:31-35. 00:20:56.62\00:21:00.79 Then they took Joseph's tunic, killed a kid of the goats and 00:21:00.82\00:21:05.43 dipped the tunic in the blood. Then they sent the tunic of many 00:21:05.46\00:21:10.67 colours and they brought it to their father and said, We have 00:21:10.70\00:21:14.70 found this. Do you know whether it is you son's tunic or not? 00:21:14.74\00:21:19.77 And he recognized it and said, It is my son's tunic. A wild 00:21:19.81\00:21:25.11 beast had devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces. 00:21:25.15\00:21:30.45 And Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist and 00:21:30.49\00:21:35.59 mourned for his son many days. And all his sons and all his 00:21:35.62\00:21:40.30 daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted 00:21:40.33\00:21:45.80 and he said, For I shall go down into the grave to my son in 00:21:45.83\00:21:51.27 mourning. Thus his father wept for him. 00:21:51.31\00:21:53.88 Mmm. So the brothers lied to their father. But do you know 00:21:53.91\00:21:57.78 what? Joseph was still alive and that was God's doing. He 00:21:57.81\00:22:01.35 protected him and even though he was sold as a slave, which 00:22:01.38\00:22:04.85 terrible, he was still alive and God had something very special. 00:22:04.89\00:22:08.89 Quickly let's read Psalm 18:2, our memory verse before we 00:22:08.92\00:22:12.99 finish.
