Beside the old Elomite city of Shushan there flows the small 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.42 river of Ulai and on the bank of this river is the traditional 00:00:04.45\00:00:09.56 tomb of the prophet Daniel. If Daniel could wake up and look 00:00:09.59\00:00:13.78 around him, I am sure he would immediately say, I must be 00:00:13.81\00:00:17.35 in the last days of this world's history. You see, when his 00:00:17.38\00:00:20.96 visions were ended, the angel said to him, and I quote 00:00:20.99\00:00:24.26 from Daniel chapter 12 and verse 4 But you Daniel shut up 00:00:24.29\00:00:29.59 the words and seal the book until the time of the end. 00:00:29.62\00:00:33.23 Many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase. 00:00:33.26\00:00:37.11 Well, right over his tomb are fluorescent electric lights 00:00:37.15\00:00:40.93 and nearby traffic roars up and down between Abidjan and Tehran. 00:00:40.96\00:00:45.93 So indeed, knowledge has increased and men are running 00:00:45.96\00:00:50.35 to and fro. So these were the days the great Medo Persian 00:00:50.38\00:00:54.49 empire and David will be showing you around Persepolis 00:00:54.52\00:00:58.25 which means the Persian city. 00:00:58.28\00:01:00.28 I wish I could take you to Persepolis. Its a fantastic 00:01:35.10\00:01:39.00 place. And its a wonderful place to visit. I've been there 00:01:39.03\00:01:43.60 many times. But it so happens that just at the present time 00:01:43.63\00:01:48.13 the Ayatollah Khomeini is the man in charge of Iran and its 00:01:48.14\00:01:53.95 not a healthy place to be unless you're a Muslim 00:01:53.96\00:01:57.54 and a fundamental one at that. However I've been there many 00:01:57.57\00:02:02.59 times. Let me show you some pictures of what is to be seen 00:02:02.62\00:02:06.11 in these fantastic ruins of Persepolis. 00:02:06.14\00:02:09.44 Looking out over the city from the nearby hilltop, you can 00:02:09.47\00:02:14.35 see the ruins spread out beneath you. 00:02:14.38\00:02:16.54 And there's a lot of it, acres and acres of it. 00:02:16.57\00:02:19.80 And then looking close up, you walk up these steps, 00:02:19.83\00:02:24.30 you got to pay your money of course to get into the ruins, 00:02:24.33\00:02:27.09 at this little box office, and then up the steps onto the right 00:02:27.12\00:02:32.26 platform on which the city was built, A man made platform and 00:02:32.29\00:02:37.39 here you see the steps leading up and the reliefs on the wall 00:02:37.42\00:02:41.80 as you go, strange to say or interesting it is, 00:02:42.15\00:02:45.01 that here you can see the soldiers of the Medo Persian 00:02:45.04\00:02:49.44 allies, a Mede and a Persian, a Mede and a Persian, 00:02:49.47\00:02:53.29 You see them? Side by side. And so it was the Medes and 00:02:53.32\00:02:56.62 Persians who ruled at this time. And then you come to the great 00:02:56.65\00:03:01.94 Apidona or audience hall, two great winged bulls stand at the 00:03:01.97\00:03:07.16 entrance. And there's a lot of pillars here. I just wonder how 00:03:07.19\00:03:11.03 long they're going to stand there, You know. Some of them 00:03:11.06\00:03:13.32 look as though they could fall over with a decent breeze. 00:03:13.35\00:03:15.40 And an earthquake will surely bring them down. 00:03:15.43\00:03:17.99 And then there's this picture of Darius. That's a relief of 00:03:18.02\00:03:22.30 Darius fighting the Persian symbol of evil. 00:03:22.33\00:03:25.92 And then you see him, of course being victorious and then you 00:03:25.95\00:03:33.28 see the reliefs of the Persian king Darius and behind him is 00:03:33.31\00:03:39.52 his son XerXes. You will notice that in the hand of Darius 00:03:39.55\00:03:43.77 there is a scepter and if he holds out the scepter to you 00:03:43.80\00:03:48.97 you're in good luck. You can have an audience. If not, well, 00:03:49.00\00:03:51.99 it's bad news for you. And so the king of Persia is depicted 00:03:52.02\00:03:56.02 here with his scepter. Now not very far away from Persepolis 00:03:56.05\00:04:00.69 are the tombs where the great Persian kings were buried. 00:04:00.72\00:04:05.27 And up on the face of the cliff here you can see the tombs 00:04:05.30\00:04:10.12 where Artaxerxes, Darius and other kings were buried. 00:04:10.15\00:04:14.40 Then we notice not very far from here is an interesting 00:04:14.43\00:04:19.08 fire altar. You see the Persians were not idolaters. 00:04:19.09\00:04:23.14 They worshiped the elements, fire, water, air and the earth. 00:04:23.17\00:04:29.07 And these were sacred symbols to them and so when somebody 00:04:29.10\00:04:33.01 died, you couldn't contaminate or defile any of these elements 00:04:33.04\00:04:37.35 by a dead body. So what to do with a dead body? 00:04:37.38\00:04:41.21 If you can't burn it, if you can't bury it, if you can't 00:04:41.24\00:04:44.09 throw it into the river, what can you do with a dead body? 00:04:44.12\00:04:46.38 Well, they had the answer. And that is they exposed it for the 00:04:46.41\00:04:51.98 vultures. Now when the Persians were driven out of Persia, 00:04:52.01\00:04:56.54 that is, those who adhered to the old Zoroastrianism religion, 00:04:56.57\00:04:59.96 they fled to India and they are now known as the Parsis. 00:04:59.99\00:05:04.14 Now the Parsis also have this problem, 00:05:04.17\00:05:07.86 and so they have what they call towers of silence. 00:05:07.89\00:05:11.76 and I've been to these towers of silence. You can't go inside 00:05:11.79\00:05:16.19 of course, not even Persians are allowed inside there. 00:05:16.22\00:05:19.29 Only two men carry the naked body through the gate into the 00:05:19.32\00:05:23.78 Tower of Silence and then the vultures swoop down and within 00:05:23.81\00:05:27.55 about 10 minutes there's only dry bones left. 00:05:27.58\00:05:30.58 And so you have the city of Persepolis. You have the 00:05:30.61\00:05:34.84 burial place of the kings, the fire altar. All this 00:05:34.85\00:05:38.60 in connection with the great city of Persepolis. 00:05:38.63\00:05:42.15 But then they had another great city. It was called Shushan. 00:05:42.18\00:05:46.44 Let's go there. Well here we are at Shushan. 00:05:46.47\00:05:51.54 and the archaeologists have been at work here. 00:05:51.57\00:05:54.19 The town itself is quite large. It's about a square mile, 00:05:54.22\00:05:58.30 nearly 4 kilometers in area. And here the archaeologists 00:05:58.33\00:06:04.97 have dug down really deep. They've exposed the old streets 00:06:04.98\00:06:08.29 and the houses and villages that were once here, but up on top of 00:06:08.32\00:06:13.73 this hill, they built themselves a castle. 00:06:13.76\00:06:16.35 Now this was not just for their comfort. It was for their 00:06:16.38\00:06:19.41 protection so that they wouldn't be bothered by the 00:06:19.42\00:06:21.91 local people who were always very curious, you know, 00:06:21.94\00:06:24.15 want to see what's going on. But its not altogether helpful 00:06:24.16\00:06:27.39 for the archaeologists and also a place to store the things that 00:06:27.42\00:06:31.13 they found from this place. And so the French archaeologists 00:06:31.16\00:06:35.24 have been working here since the year 1901. Now over on the far 00:06:35.27\00:06:40.60 side of the tower is the river Ulai. And here is the tomb of 00:06:40.63\00:06:47.99 the prophet, Daniel. Of course Queen Esther lived in this place 00:06:48.02\00:06:52.62 and it was here that the graphic events of the book of Esther 00:06:52.63\00:06:57.54 occurred. Archaeologists have exposed what was the palace 00:06:57.57\00:07:02.15 of the great kings of Persia in this place. 00:07:02.18\00:07:04.77 And you can even see the place where the harem was. 00:07:04.80\00:07:08.25 that would be where Queen Esther was. Well, Daniel the prophet 00:07:08.28\00:07:12.36 is said to have been buried here. And this is his tomb 00:07:12.39\00:07:15.62 by the river Ulai. I suppose if Daniel was to awaken today 00:07:15.65\00:07:19.89 he'd say, Well, this is it. You know he said, or he was 00:07:19.90\00:07:24.36 told by the angel. Shut up the words and seal your book, Daniel 00:07:24.39\00:07:27.29 until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro 00:07:27.32\00:07:29.66 and knowledge shall be increased. And he'd look up 00:07:29.69\00:07:32.44 and he'd see these fluorescent lights. He would see the jets 00:07:32.47\00:07:37.19 zooming overhead because this is on the direct route between 00:07:37.22\00:07:40.23 Abingdon, the great oil center and Tehran the capitol of Persia 00:07:40.26\00:07:44.92 or Iran today. And so the prophet Daniel was here, 00:07:44.95\00:07:49.40 right by the river Ulai when he had an interesting vision. 00:07:49.44\00:07:53.21 Its recorded in Daniel, chapter 8. He says, In the third year 00:07:53.24\00:07:57.99 of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel 00:07:58.02\00:08:01.82 after the one that appeared to me the first time. 00:08:01.85\00:08:04.48 I saw in the vision and is so happened while I was looking 00:08:04.51\00:08:08.18 that I was at Shushan the Citadel which is in the province 00:08:08.21\00:08:12.29 of Elam. And I saw in the vision that I was by the river 00:08:12.32\00:08:15.32 Ulai. So here's the setting right here by this little river, 00:08:15.35\00:08:19.47 Ulai near the city of Shushan, today called Shush. 00:08:19.50\00:08:23.75 Then I lifted up my eyes and saw and there standing beside 00:08:23.78\00:08:28.25 the river was a ram which had two horns. You know there's 00:08:28.28\00:08:33.09 some people that would say, Well you can make bible prophecy 00:08:33.12\00:08:36.11 mean anything. Well, no you can't. There are some prophecies 00:08:36.14\00:08:39.80 which are a little vague; but let me tell you, there's a lot 00:08:39.83\00:08:42.37 of prophecies that are very, very specific. 00:08:42.40\00:08:44.69 And you can't make this mean anything but what it says. 00:08:44.70\00:08:47.43 Here in verse 20 it says, The ram which you saw having the 2 00:08:47.46\00:08:52.64 horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia. 00:08:52.67\00:08:55.00 You can't do anything else with that. So here's a symbol of the 00:08:55.03\00:08:58.85 great Medo-Persian empire. Now we are told, I saw the ram 00:08:58.88\00:09:06.63 pushing westward, northward, southward, so that no beast 00:09:06.66\00:09:09.50 could stand before him. He did according to his will and became 00:09:09.53\00:09:14.44 great. Then it says in verse 5, As I was considering suddenly a 00:09:14.47\00:09:19.08 male goat came from the west across the surface of the whole 00:09:19.11\00:09:23.56 earth without touching the ground. The goat had a notable 00:09:23.59\00:09:27.24 horn between his eyes. Again, you can't make this mean two 00:09:27.27\00:09:31.26 things. Its only one. And the goat represents the Macedonian 00:09:31.29\00:09:35.98 invasion. It came from the west, you see. And that's where 00:09:36.01\00:09:38.79 Alexander and his armies came. And this is not just guess work 00:09:38.80\00:09:42.87 because it says here in verse 21, The male goat is the kingdom 00:09:42.90\00:09:46.97 of Greece. The large horn that is between his eyes 00:09:47.00\00:09:50.82 is the first king. That is Alexander the great. 00:09:50.83\00:09:54.02 And so we have the Macedonian invasion. And then we find 00:09:54.05\00:09:59.15 here it was to be followed by the break up of the Macedonian 00:09:59.18\00:10:03.96 empire. It says in verse 7, I saw him confronting the ram. 00:10:03.97\00:10:09.26 He was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, broke his 00:10:09.29\00:10:11.99 two horns. Therefore the male goat grew very great. 00:10:12.02\00:10:16.44 Remember Persia was to be great Macedonians were to be very 00:10:16.47\00:10:19.88 great. And when he became strong the large horn was broken. 00:10:19.91\00:10:26.65 Now kings don't usually die when they're strong. 00:10:26.68\00:10:29.81 Its when they're weak and old and feeble. But here was a king 00:10:29.84\00:10:33.16 who was to be deposed or he was to die when he was strong 00:10:33.19\00:10:37.69 and that's what happened to Alexander. He was only 32 years 00:10:37.72\00:10:40.43 of age, just in the peak of his manhood when he died in Babylon. 00:10:40.46\00:10:44.87 And of course he didn't have any child, any son to succeed him. 00:10:44.90\00:10:49.31 And so it says, The large horn was broken. In place of it 00:10:49.34\00:10:53.35 four notable ones came up, one toward the four winds of heaven. 00:10:53.38\00:10:57.19 And so there ought to be four kings in the place of the one. 00:10:57.22\00:11:01.42 And that's exactly what happened because his kingdom was divided 00:11:01.45\00:11:05.61 among his four Generals. Cassander of Greece, 00:11:05.64\00:11:10.67 Lysimicus of Turkey and Seleucus took the land of Syria 00:11:10.70\00:11:16.53 and Palestine, and Ptolemy took Egypt. So you've got these four 00:11:16.54\00:11:23.18 subdivisions of the Macedonian empire. Just exactly as the 00:11:23.21\00:11:27.55 bible says. Now it says, Out of one of them came a little horn 00:11:27.58\00:11:32.98 which grew exceeding great. Now its only a little horn, but 00:11:33.01\00:11:37.65 it became exceeding great. You see, first you've got great 00:11:37.68\00:11:40.37 then you've got very great, then you've got exceeding great. 00:11:40.40\00:11:42.92 And that, of course, very aptly describes the great empire of 00:11:42.93\00:11:48.43 Rome, which became the greatest of all these empires of the past 00:11:48.46\00:11:52.35 Now we are told concerning Rome, He even exalted himself as high 00:11:52.38\00:11:58.85 as the prince of the host and by him the daily sacrifices were 00:11:58.88\00:12:02.23 taken away, and the place of his sanctuary were cast down. 00:12:02.26\00:12:05.29 Now the Romans came to Jerusalem and completely destroyed the 00:12:05.32\00:12:10.23 temple at Jerusalem. And so the place of the Jewish sanctuary 00:12:10.26\00:12:14.75 was cast down. Then a question was asked. Verse 13. 00:12:14.76\00:12:20.84 Then I heard a holy one speaking That would be one of the angels 00:12:20.87\00:12:25.16 and another holy one said to the certain one who was speaking 00:12:25.19\00:12:28.71 How long will the vision be concerning the daily sacrifices 00:12:28.74\00:12:33.59 and the transgression of desolation, the giving of both 00:12:33.62\00:12:36.74 the sanctuary and the host to be trampled under foot? 00:12:36.77\00:12:39.82 In other words, How long would this destruction of the 00:12:39.85\00:12:44.44 sanctuary go on and the sanctuary be obscured? 00:12:44.47\00:12:47.81 The great sanctuary truth be obscured? And the answer was 00:12:47.84\00:12:52.63 given, Unto 2,300 days or evenings and mornings 00:12:52.64\00:12:58.41 means the same thing, you know. In Genesis 1, it says, 00:12:58.44\00:13:00.68 that the evening and the morning was the first day. 00:13:00.71\00:13:02.83 So 2,300 days. Now in Ezekiel 4, and in verse 6, we are told, 00:13:02.86\00:13:09.69 that a day in prophecy symbolizes a year. 00:13:09.72\00:13:12.89 So here is a period of 2,300 years. Let's put that on the 00:13:12.92\00:13:18.25 board so that we can just illustrate it and see what we 00:13:18.28\00:13:21.31 are talking about, right? 2,300 years. 00:13:21.34\00:13:28.82 Alright now where do we begin? 00:13:28.85\00:13:32.66 What marks the commencement point of this 00:13:32.70\00:13:34.70 prophecy? You can read Daniel chapter 8 right through and you 00:13:34.73\00:13:39.63 won't get a clue as to when it begins and of course 00:13:39.66\00:13:42.24 therefore you can't work out when it ends. Why? 00:13:42.27\00:13:46.59 Why would God give a prophecy and not give a beginning 00:13:46.62\00:13:48.93 or an ending? The reason is given in verse 27, and I Daniel 00:13:48.96\00:13:53.69 fainted and was sick for days. Afterward I arose and went about 00:13:53.72\00:13:58.01 the kings business. I was astonished by the vision 00:13:58.04\00:14:00.34 but no one understood it. Of course they couldn't because 00:14:00.37\00:14:03.84 no beginning date had been given. Daniel and his friends 00:14:03.87\00:14:07.91 could not understand it. Well, some years went by. 00:14:07.94\00:14:12.18 And then Daniel was praying and he had another vision. 00:14:12.21\00:14:15.72 The angel appeared to him again. It says in chapter 9, verse 21, 00:14:15.75\00:14:20.33 While I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel whom I'd seen 00:14:20.36\00:14:24.50 in the vision at the beginning being caused to fly swiftly, 00:14:24.53\00:14:27.61 touched me about the time of the evening oblation, and he 00:14:27.64\00:14:30.88 informed me and talked with me and said, O Daniel, I have now 00:14:30.91\00:14:33.71 come forth to give you skill to understand. Now remember 00:14:33.74\00:14:38.62 he said nobody understood the vision. Now the angel says, 00:14:38.63\00:14:42.26 understand. Aha. So here was to be given the final information 00:14:42.29\00:14:47.21 about this time prophecy. He says, Consider the matter and 00:14:47.24\00:14:52.09 understand the vision - that is this vision of the 2,300 days. 00:14:52.12\00:14:56.74 Alright. Now here is given this shorter period that we've 00:14:56.77\00:15:02.19 already discussed. 70 weeks are determined for your people 00:15:02.22\00:15:06.71 and it says in verse 25, Know therefore and understand that 00:15:06.72\00:15:11.88 from the going forth of the commandment to restore 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.12 and build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince, shall be 7 weeks, 00:15:14.13\00:15:17.98 and 62 weeks. Now here is a period of 69 weeks, and its 00:15:18.01\00:15:23.63 obviously marking the beginning of the both periods. And it says 00:15:23.66\00:15:29.94 >From the going forth of the commandment to restore and to 00:15:29.97\00:15:32.52 rebuild Jerusalem. Now the decree was issued by king 00:15:32.55\00:15:36.45 Artaxerxes of Persia in the year 457 B.C. Now the 457 B.C. 00:15:36.48\00:15:43.44 would be 456 complete years before Christ. Now this period 00:15:43.45\00:15:51.86 of 69 weeks do a little rapid multiplication by 7 and you'll 00:15:51.89\00:15:57.12 find that that comes to 483 days or years. My writing is terrible 00:15:57.15\00:16:04.78 isn't it. Eh? But if you subtract 456 from 483 00:16:04.81\00:16:11.65 What do you get? You get 27 A.D. In other words-We'll put here 00:16:11.66\00:16:18.94 27 A.D. and that is the very year in which Jesus Christ was 00:16:18.97\00:16:24.94 baptized. Alright now seeing as the first part of it is 00:16:24.97\00:16:29.82 confirmed by fulfilled prophecy we can have confidence in the 00:16:29.85\00:16:33.17 rest of it. Subtract 456 from this and what do you get? 1844. 00:16:33.20\00:16:42.21 So the termination of this point is 1844 A.D. 00:16:42.25\00:16:49.61 Now, don't forget the question that was asked. How long 00:16:49.65\00:16:54.36 will the truth concerning the heavenly sanctuary be obscured? 00:16:54.39\00:16:58.34 Unto 2,300 days, in other words until 1844. What happened then? 00:16:58.37\00:17:04.42 That was the year in which a lot of people were expecting 00:17:04.45\00:17:08.07 Jesus Christ to return. You see they had studied this very 00:17:08.10\00:17:12.09 prophecy. They knew it was going to be fulfilled in 1844. 00:17:12.12\00:17:15.79 And they thought that the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:17:15.82\00:17:19.89 was the return of Christ to this world to purify the world 00:17:19.92\00:17:23.58 by fire. You see, they hadn't done their homework 00:17:23.61\00:17:26.58 quite enough. They had the dates right but they had the wrong 00:17:26.61\00:17:30.47 event. And they were expecting Christ to return in 1844. 00:17:30.50\00:17:33.49 He didn't come. It was a bitter disappointment to them. 00:17:33.50\00:17:37.29 So, what did they do? Well they had another look at the 00:17:37.30\00:17:40.94 prophecy. And what does it say here? Then shall the sanctuary 00:17:40.97\00:17:45.54 be cleansed. What is the cleansing of the sanctuary? 00:17:45.57\00:17:49.05 Remember, the sanctuary is in heaven. The earthly sanctuary 00:17:49.08\00:17:53.14 had been destroyed in 70 A. D. It must be referring to the 00:17:53.17\00:17:56.73 heavenly sanctuary. And what is the cleansing of the heavenly 00:17:56.74\00:18:01.09 sanctuary? Well, they discovered the truth of the heavenly 00:18:01.10\00:18:07.09 sanctuary in 1844 and then they went on to understand what is 00:18:07.12\00:18:11.98 meant by the cleansing of the sanctuary. Let's have a look at 00:18:12.01\00:18:15.55 Mr. Winterdon's model of the sanctuary. 00:18:15.58\00:18:17.95 to understand that. Once a year there was a special ceremony 00:18:17.98\00:18:22.60 conducted at the tabernacle or the sanctuary. 00:18:22.61\00:18:24.87 And this was the one occasion in the year when the high priest 00:18:24.90\00:18:29.31 went into the inner apartment of the sanctuary. 00:18:29.34\00:18:32.44 Before he did that he was required first of all to take 00:18:32.47\00:18:36.96 a bullock and sacrifice this. You see, a priest had a 00:18:36.99\00:18:40.85 bigger responsibility than the common people and so his 00:18:40.88\00:18:44.15 sacrifice had to be bigger because he was more guilty 00:18:44.18\00:18:47.33 if he did make mistakes. He had more responsibility. 00:18:47.36\00:18:50.35 And so he took this bullock and sacrificed it and the blood 00:18:50.38\00:18:55.37 was taken into the inner apartment of the sanctuary 00:18:55.40\00:18:58.65 and sprinkled on the mercy seat, as it was called 00:18:58.68\00:19:01.72 which was where the ten commandments were. 00:19:01.75\00:19:04.20 Now, just so we can see what happened here, let us ask 00:19:04.21\00:19:07.97 Mr. Winterton to remove these, four coverings that were over 00:19:08.00\00:19:12.37 the sanctuary and then we get a good look inside. 00:19:12.40\00:19:15.36 Now you'll notice that there were two veils, one here and 00:19:15.39\00:19:18.72 one at the entrance to the inner apartment of the sanctuary. 00:19:18.75\00:19:21.74 Okay, so we'll take this one off first. Thank you, Mr. Winterton. 00:19:21.77\00:19:25.31 And then we'll take the other one off so that we can see 00:19:25.34\00:19:29.54 right inside there. Alright, now you'll notice that inside here 00:19:29.57\00:19:33.97 there is the ark of the covenant where the 10 commandments 00:19:33.98\00:19:37.01 were and this is all symbolic of the presence of God. 00:19:37.04\00:19:41.31 So, the blood of the bullock was taken in there and sprinkled 00:19:41.34\00:19:45.55 and then the high priest came out and then he took two goats. 00:19:45.56\00:19:50.77 Now we have already pointed out that a sacrificial animal 00:19:50.80\00:19:55.03 whose blood was spilt was symbolic of the sacrifice of 00:19:55.06\00:19:58.90 Jesus Christ on the cross, wasn't it? 00:19:58.93\00:20:00.96 Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world 00:20:00.99\00:20:04.22 John the Baptist said concerning Jesus, and 00:20:04.25\00:20:07.26 the little lamb or goat, the same thing. Now he took these 00:20:07.29\00:20:10.53 two goats and would you believe it? He cast lots over them. 00:20:10.56\00:20:14.95 And one of them was chosen to be the Lord's goat and the other 00:20:14.98\00:20:19.62 one was designated as the goat for Azazel. Or he was 00:20:19.65\00:20:24.34 a symbol actually of the devil, or Satan. 00:20:24.35\00:20:27.16 the reason I say that is because the Lord's goat was sacrificed. 00:20:27.19\00:20:31.03 The blood was spilt. The other goat was not sacrificed. 00:20:31.06\00:20:35.09 Its blood was not spilt and without shedding of blood, there 00:20:35.12\00:20:38.72 was no remission of sin. So there's now way that that 00:20:38.75\00:20:40.95 represents the Lord Jesus Christ you see. Now he took the blood 00:20:40.96\00:20:44.94 of this goat and took it into the inner apartment of the 00:20:44.97\00:20:48.45 sanctuary and sprinkled it there before the presence of 00:20:48.48\00:20:51.68 God and then he came out and confessed all the sins of the 00:20:51.71\00:20:56.91 children of Israel over the- this live goat and then he 00:20:56.94\00:21:01.72 committed it to the hands of a capable man, a strong man 00:21:01.75\00:21:06.52 who then led it into the wilderness and there it perished 00:21:06.55\00:21:10.28 with the sins upon it. Now what's the meaning of all this? 00:21:10.31\00:21:12.52 Its very interesting. This live goat of course being sacrificed 00:21:12.55\00:21:17.05 was a symbol of the Lord Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the 00:21:17.08\00:21:20.64 cross. And the work that was done in here was a work of 00:21:20.67\00:21:25.26 judgment. You see this was the Yom Kippur, the day of 00:21:25.29\00:21:29.32 Judgment that was celebrated on this 10th day of the 7th month 00:21:29.35\00:21:34.46 And the Jewish people of today still recognize Yom Kippur as 00:21:34.49\00:21:39.73 the Judgment Day. And so this represented the blood of Christ 00:21:39.76\00:21:45.90 being offered as a sacrifice for our sins in the judgment 00:21:45.93\00:21:49.85 day and it was also referred to as the cleansing of the 00:21:49.88\00:21:54.75 sanctuary. The sanctuary was cleansed or the objects here 00:21:54.78\00:21:58.51 were purified on this day by this spilt blood. 00:21:58.54\00:22:01.76 Now after the work of judgment was finished then the high 00:22:01.79\00:22:06.48 priest came out and confessed the sins over the live goat. 00:22:06.51\00:22:09.68 This was not sacrificed. It represented the responsibility 00:22:09.71\00:22:14.56 of Satan. You see the devil is not only got a lot of his own 00:22:14.57\00:22:17.10 sins to account for, but he is responsible for the sins that he 00:22:17.13\00:22:20.67 has tempted other people to commit. He is not a sacrifice 00:22:20.70\00:22:24.40 on our behalf. He is simply getting the consequences of his 00:22:24.43\00:22:29.58 own temptations that he has imposed on God's people and 00:22:29.61\00:22:33.12 so he's punished not only for his own sins but for the sins 00:22:33.15\00:22:35.90 that he tempts others to commit. That's only fair enough, 00:22:35.93\00:22:39.45 isn't it? Serves him right. And so this animal was taken 00:22:39.48\00:22:42.97 away and it was allowed to perish in the wilderness. 00:22:43.00\00:22:45.98 Alright, now I have said that this represents the cleansing 00:22:46.01\00:22:49.83 of the sanctuary. We have already pointed out that the 00:22:49.86\00:22:52.90 sanctuary is a symbol or a model of the great sanctuary of God in 00:22:52.93\00:22:56.99 heaven. Therefore this work of cleansing or judgment that goes 00:22:57.00\00:23:01.71 on this inner apartment of the sanctuary symbolizes the great 00:23:01.72\00:23:05.10 judgment day in heaven. Now you might say just hold on a 00:23:05.13\00:23:10.23 minute. Do you mean to say that there's anything in heaven that 00:23:10.26\00:23:13.64 needs cleansing? Surely heaven is a clean place. Surely heaven 00:23:13.65\00:23:17.81 doesn't need any housekeeping to clean it out or anything like 00:23:17.84\00:23:21.25 that. Well just before you start using any reasoning, just let's 00:23:21.28\00:23:25.20 notice what the bible says about this. In Hebrews and in chapter 00:23:25.23\00:23:30.89 9 and in verse 23, now this is not I that am saying this, 00:23:30.90\00:23:35.25 This is what the Bible says. Listen. Therefore it was 00:23:35.28\00:23:38.65 necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens 00:23:38.68\00:23:41.94 should be purified with these but the heavenly things, 00:23:41.97\00:23:46.41 notice it mentions things in heaven. Heaven is a real place. 00:23:46.44\00:23:49.18 And its got these real items of the sanctuary up there, 00:23:49.21\00:23:53.05 including the ark of the testament with the 00:23:53.08\00:23:55.85 10 commandments. It says, But the heavenly things themselves 00:23:55.88\00:24:01.55 were better sacrifices than these. So, there you are, 00:24:01.58\00:24:04.91 the bible says that heavenly things were purified or cleansed 00:24:04.94\00:24:08.01 by something better than the blood of goats or animals 00:24:08.04\00:24:12.51 It was cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. 00:24:12.54\00:24:15.49 Well, why did it need cleansing? What was there to cleanse? 00:24:15.52\00:24:19.77 Let me read to you what it says here in Acts, chapter 3, and in 00:24:19.80\00:24:23.76 verse 19. Peter is preaching on the day of Pentecost 00:24:23.79\00:24:26.81 and he says, Repent therefore and be converted that your 00:24:26.84\00:24:30.96 sins may be blotted out so the times of refreshing may come 00:24:30.99\00:24:35.83 from the presence of the Lord and that he may send Jesus 00:24:35.86\00:24:38.57 Christ who was preached to you before. Now notice, Before Jesus 00:24:38.60\00:24:42.70 Christ comes back to this world there's something needs to be 00:24:42.73\00:24:46.22 blotted out or cleansed from the books of record in heaven. 00:24:46.25\00:24:48.80 And that's the record of our sins. You wouldn't like to get 00:24:48.83\00:24:52.45 up there to heaven, would you? and find that the books up there 00:24:52.48\00:24:56.33 that have recorded all your sins have still got them all 00:24:56.36\00:24:58.55 recorded there? Why, somebody would say, Hey, your ought to 00:24:58.58\00:25:01.72 have a look at here. Here's all the sins of D. K. Downs. 00:25:01.75\00:25:04.24 I wouldn't want that, No. But in the great judgment day 00:25:04.27\00:25:07.81 when it is found that I have accepted Jesus Christ as my 00:25:07.82\00:25:11.83 Savior and I'm covered by his precious blood, my sins are 00:25:11.86\00:25:16.49 going to be not only forgiven they'll all be blotted out. 00:25:16.52\00:25:19.25 So there'll be no trace of them. That is what heaven needs 00:25:19.28\00:25:22.62 cleansing of, the record of our sins. So you see there is a 00:25:22.65\00:25:27.02 work of judgment. There is a work of cleansing, of 00:25:27.05\00:25:29.63 purification in heaven, of getting rid of the record of our 00:25:29.66\00:25:33.19 sins up there. Alright, well now what really goes on in this 00:25:33.22\00:25:38.17 great judgment day? In 1 Peter chapter 4, and in verse 17, 00:25:38.20\00:25:42.85 it says, For the time has come, or it should be really 00:25:42.88\00:25:47.67 translated, will come, The time will come for judgment to begin 00:25:47.68\00:25:52.24 at the house of God. You see, people who don't accept Christ, 00:25:52.25\00:25:56.72 are automatically condemned. They are condemned already 00:25:56.76\00:25:59.79 according to John 3:18. If you don't believe that Christ died 00:25:59.82\00:26:02.82 for you, you've got a pay the penalty of your own sins. 00:26:02.85\00:26:05.93 There's no question of whether you're going to be forgiven 00:26:05.96\00:26:07.99 or not if you don't choose to be forgiven. But if you have 00:26:08.02\00:26:12.38 been forgiven, it is possible to change your mind, you know, 00:26:12.39\00:26:16.61 and turn away from Christ. So when forgiveness is recorded 00:26:16.62\00:26:20.99 against your name, we've got to figure out or God has to figure 00:26:21.03\00:26:24.46 out whether that forgiveness has been maintained. And that's what 00:26:24.49\00:26:30.07 the judgment in heaven is for. Not to decide whether the bad 00:26:30.10\00:26:35.17 people are going to heaven or not, but whether the people- 00:26:35.20\00:26:37.69 judgment must begin at the house of God whether God's 00:26:37.72\00:26:41.10 people have lived up to their profession of faith or not. 00:26:41.13\00:26:44.13 And then if they have, their sins are blotted out. 00:26:44.16\00:26:48.20 Now the standard in this judgment is recorded in 00:26:48.23\00:26:52.56 James, chapter 2, and in verse 10. Listen to this carefully, 00:26:52.59\00:26:56.80 because we're all going to face up to a judgment. 00:26:56.83\00:26:59.60 For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet stumble in 00:26:59.63\00:27:03.78 one point, he is guilty of all. Some people say Well, it doesn't 00:27:03.81\00:27:08.81 really matter if you just keep don't keep one of the 00:27:08.84\00:27:11.99 commandments, just as long as you keep 9. Oh, no. 00:27:12.02\00:27:14.33 Here it says, If you stumble on one point you're guilty of the 00:27:14.37\00:27:18.71 lot. For he who said, Do not commit adultery also said, 00:27:18.74\00:27:22.90 Do not murder. You see. Its speaking here about the law of 00:27:22.93\00:27:25.65 10 commandments. So speak and so do as those who will be judged 00:27:25.69\00:27:31.24 by the law of liberty. Its a law of liberty. Keep it and you go 00:27:31.28\00:27:36.80 free. Break it and you're in bondage to sin and the devil. 00:27:36.83\00:27:40.48 And so, So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the 00:27:40.51\00:27:44.88 law of liberty. And so we're going to be compared by this 00:27:44.91\00:27:49.28 great standard in heaven, God's ten commandments and that 00:27:49.31\00:27:52.45 includes the fourth commandment, the 7th day Sabbath. 00:27:52.48\00:27:56.29 And so if we want our sins blotted out by Christ in that 00:27:56.32\00:28:00.07 great day, then the thing to do is choose to believe in Christ 00:28:00.10\00:28:04.70 for the forgiveness of sin so that your sins can be blotted 00:28:04.73\00:28:07.18 out and choose to keep all of his commandments by his grace 00:28:07.21\00:28:11.89 and by his strength, including the 7th day Sabbath, because 00:28:11.92\00:28:16.40 this is going to be the great standard in the judgment day 00:28:16.43\00:28:21.00 in heaven which has been going on since 1844. Who knows how 00:28:21.03\00:28:25.07 soon it will come to your name? Believe in Christ and choose to 00:28:25.10\00:28:31.10 follow Him and keep His commandments. 00:28:31.13\00:28:33.51 In our next program, we'll be showing you the ruins of 00:28:33.54\00:28:36.96 the city of Rome and telling you about the two great wonders 00:28:36.99\00:28:41.01 that the disciple John saw in the sky. 00:28:41.04\00:28:44.22
