For this program, we take you to Rome, 00:00:01.98\00:00:03.60 where we have a look around St. Peter's Cathedral, 00:00:03.64\00:00:06.06 one of the most magnificent church buildings in the world. 00:00:06.09\00:00:09.69 Here, David will explain the bible prophecy of the Antichrist 00:00:09.72\00:00:14.41 We are now in St. Peter's square I figure it should be 00:00:47.48\00:00:51.00 more accurately described as a circle. And here St. Peter's, 00:00:51.03\00:00:55.59 one of the greatest churches of Christendom. 00:00:55.62\00:00:58.04 At the entrance of the church, there is a door. 00:00:58.07\00:01:02.14 Its called the Jubilee Door because its only open about 00:01:02.17\00:01:05.33 once every 50 years. The pope comes and walks through this 00:01:05.36\00:01:08.80 door and that is just a jubilee occasion. Inside the church 00:01:08.83\00:01:14.23 not very far inside, there is a statue of St. Peter. 00:01:14.26\00:01:17.19 This is a very ancient statue, although, of course, 00:01:17.22\00:01:20.47 it doesn't go back to St. Peter, himself. 00:01:20.50\00:01:22.30 But there are occasions when this statue is clothed 00:01:22.33\00:01:27.23 with the papal robes - the pope's robes, 00:01:27.26\00:01:29.96 and is worshiped. Then further inside, there is a magnificent 00:01:29.99\00:01:34.73 Basilica, and it is believed that beneath this basilica 00:01:34.76\00:01:38.09 are the bones of St. Peter. There's no archaeological 00:01:38.12\00:01:40.85 evidence to support this; but this is what is commonly 00:01:40.88\00:01:44.13 believed. Down below the church, the floor level of the church, 00:01:44.16\00:01:47.50 the popes are buried and there are some magnificent statues 00:01:47.53\00:01:51.29 down there. Before a pope dies, he chooses his place 00:01:51.32\00:01:54.37 to be buried and the statues that should surmount his 00:01:54.40\00:01:58.25 burial place. Well, the Roman Catholic church is a very 00:01:58.28\00:02:02.30 important church. And it figures very largely in bible prophecy. 00:02:02.33\00:02:06.27 On one occasion the prophet, Daniel, dreamed that he was 00:02:06.30\00:02:09.48 by the seashore and had a dream in which he saw this 00:02:09.51\00:02:14.05 church. In Daniel, chapter 7, the prophet says, 00:02:14.08\00:02:18.33 I saw in my vision by night, and behold the 4 winds of heaven 00:02:18.36\00:02:23.25 were stirring up the great sea, and four great beasts 00:02:23.28\00:02:27.72 came up from the sea, each different from the other. 00:02:27.75\00:02:30.33 The first was like a lion. Now these 4 beasts are symbolic of 00:02:30.36\00:02:35.46 four great kingdoms, or empires which would come on the scene of 00:02:35.49\00:02:38.97 action in the middle east; because it says in verse 17, 00:02:39.00\00:02:41.46 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings 00:02:41.49\00:02:46.14 which shall arise out of the earth. Now a king symbolizes 00:02:46.17\00:02:50.45 a kingdom, because in verse 23 it says, The fourth kingdom 00:02:50.48\00:02:53.95 on earth would be the fourth beast. So here are four kingdoms 00:02:53.98\00:02:58.40 that would arise. And it tells us that the first was like a 00:02:58.43\00:03:02.27 lion and had eagle's wings. Well now here we have artist's 00:03:02.30\00:03:07.09 concept of what this first beast must have looked like. 00:03:07.12\00:03:11.13 And I think he's done a very good job, too, hasn't he? 00:03:11.16\00:03:13.93 And so Daniel saw a lion with eagle's wings coming up out 00:03:13.96\00:03:17.23 of the water. The water represents the warring nations. 00:03:17.26\00:03:21.31 And what nation is represented by this particular beast? 00:03:21.34\00:03:25.22 You know, whenever you come to bible prophecy you need to allow 00:03:25.25\00:03:29.02 the bible to interpret itself and that's exactly what we can 00:03:29.05\00:03:32.87 do with this particular kingdom; because in Jeremiah, chapter 4, 00:03:32.90\00:03:36.56 the prophet, Jeremiah, was speaking about the invading 00:03:36.59\00:03:40.99 Babylonian armies that were approaching Jerusalem. 00:03:41.02\00:03:43.77 And he says in verse 7, A lion is come up from his thicket, 00:03:43.80\00:03:48.16 the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way. 00:03:48.19\00:03:51.21 He has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate. 00:03:51.24\00:03:55.88 Your cities will be laid waste without inhabitant. 00:03:55.91\00:03:58.81 And so Babylon was referred to as a lion. 00:03:58.84\00:04:02.00 And the eagle's wings? well it says here in verse 13, 00:04:02.03\00:04:05.54 His horses are swifter than eagles. And so the wings 00:04:05.57\00:04:10.42 denote the fact that the Babylonian invasion will be a 00:04:10.45\00:04:13.05 very swift invasion. Well, the Babylonians came on the scene 00:04:13.08\00:04:16.64 in 612 BC, when together with the Medes, they conquered the 00:04:16.67\00:04:21.99 great city of Nineveh. And then in 605 BC, the Babylonians 00:04:22.02\00:04:26.80 conquered Jerusalem and were masters of the middle east. 00:04:26.83\00:04:30.82 Nebuchadnezzar, the architect, of the great Neo-Babylonian 00:04:30.85\00:04:34.38 empire, remained on the scene for more than 40 years. 00:04:34.41\00:04:38.12 And so the Babylonians were rulers of the middle east 00:04:38.15\00:04:41.48 right up until the year 539 BC. Now what was the next kingdom 00:04:41.51\00:04:48.00 on the scene? In verse 7 it says Suddenly another beast, a second 00:04:48.03\00:04:53.43 like a bear. It was raised up on one side and it had 3 ribs 00:04:53.46\00:04:57.72 in its mouth between its teeth. So, here we have the artist's 00:04:57.75\00:05:01.41 concept of what the bear must have looked like with the 3 ribs 00:05:01.44\00:05:04.35 and what does this represent? Well obviously this would 00:05:04.38\00:05:07.25 be the next kingdom that came on the scene. 00:05:07.28\00:05:09.22 And that was the kingdom of the Medes and the Persians. 00:05:09.25\00:05:11.72 King Cyrus marched his forces down the Euphrates river 00:05:11.75\00:05:15.63 and found the gates open of Babylon, marched in, 00:05:15.66\00:05:19.63 in the year 539 BC and occupied the city. And so Medo-Persia 00:05:19.66\00:05:26.05 became the next great empire. The three ribs? Well, no doubt 00:05:26.08\00:05:29.92 that symbolizes the 3 nations that the Medo-Persians 00:05:29.95\00:05:33.44 conquered. One, of course, was Babylon, the other was Libya 00:05:33.47\00:05:37.16 and the other was Egypt. And so the Medo-Persian empire 00:05:37.19\00:05:40.87 is symbolized by this bear with the 3 ribs, lifting itself up on 00:05:40.90\00:05:45.93 one side? Well, at first, the Medes were the stronger 00:05:45.96\00:05:50.41 of the 2 nations; but afterwards Persians 00:05:50.44\00:05:52.78 became the stronger. And so you've got the two sides 00:05:52.81\00:05:55.42 of this empire, fittingly symbolized by the bear 00:05:55.45\00:05:58.78 with the two sides. Then came the next beast. 00:05:58.81\00:06:02.84 In verse 6 it tells us, After this, I looked, and there was 00:06:02.87\00:06:07.14 another like a leopard, which had on its back, 4 wings of a 00:06:07.17\00:06:11.02 bird. The beast also had 4 heads and dominion was given 00:06:11.05\00:06:15.87 to it. The kingdom that followed the Medo-Persian 00:06:15.90\00:06:19.63 kingdom was that of Alexander the Great, of Macedon 00:06:19.66\00:06:22.92 And he is very fittingly symbolized by a leopard. 00:06:22.95\00:06:25.60 You know, a leopard can move fast. One of the fastest 00:06:25.63\00:06:28.79 moving animals there is in the world. And in contrast, 00:06:28.82\00:06:32.32 to the bear, the bear is very strong but very unwieldy. 00:06:32.35\00:06:36.18 And that's the way it was with the vast Medo-Persian army - 00:06:36.21\00:06:39.48 Strong, powerful, but very hard to maneuver. 00:06:39.51\00:06:42.88 Alexander's strength laid in the fact of his maneuverability 00:06:42.91\00:06:48.12 and so he is very fittingly symbolized by the leopard, 00:06:48.15\00:06:51.67 with the eagle's wings for swiftness. 00:06:51.70\00:06:54.51 Why the four heads? Because when Alexander died 00:06:54.54\00:06:58.31 prematurely, at the age of only 32 years of age, in Babylon, 00:06:58.34\00:07:01.99 he had no heir to succeed him. And so he was succeeded 00:07:02.02\00:07:07.16 ultimately by his four generals. Cassander, Lysimachus, 00:07:07.19\00:07:11.26 Selucus, and Ptolemy. And they divided the Macedonian empire 00:07:11.29\00:07:16.02 between them. Hence this beast has four heads. 00:07:16.05\00:07:20.44 And so it was in the year 331 that Alexander finally 00:07:20.47\00:07:25.75 defeated the Medo-Persian Darius the third and became 00:07:25.78\00:07:29.63 the master of the middle east. Now comes the fourth beast. 00:07:29.66\00:07:34.23 Daniel had just never seen anything like this in his life. 00:07:34.26\00:07:37.46 It says in verse 7, After this in the night visions, behold a 00:07:37.49\00:07:42.85 fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong 00:07:42.88\00:07:47.00 It had huge iron teeth. It was devouring, breaking in pieces 00:07:47.03\00:07:52.44 and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different 00:07:52.47\00:07:55.76 from all the beasts that were before it and it had 10 horns. 00:07:55.79\00:08:00.10 Now this obviously represents the great iron monarchy of Rome. 00:08:00.13\00:08:05.58 And so Rome came on the scene in the year 168 BC when they 00:08:05.61\00:08:11.86 finally ousted the Greeks at the battle of Pidnah. 00:08:11.89\00:08:14.60 Rome is very fittingly symbolized by this beast; 00:08:14.63\00:08:17.96 because it was an iron monarchy. It was very fierce. It was very 00:08:17.99\00:08:22.43 strong, and it strode across the Mediterranean, all over Europe, 00:08:22.46\00:08:26.79 and established an empire, stretching from the United 00:08:26.82\00:08:30.32 Kingdom or England in the top and right down to Africa and to 00:08:30.35\00:08:35.47 Mesopotamia in the east and south. Now why the 10 horns? 00:08:35.50\00:08:39.29 Simply because there is no 5th beast. Did you ever stop to 00:08:39.32\00:08:44.52 think that prophecy not only tells us what is the future, but 00:08:44.55\00:08:49.00 it is able to predict the limit to what will happen. 00:08:49.03\00:08:51.97 And so there are not 5 beasts here; because there wasn't a 00:08:52.01\00:08:56.76 5th empire. The 5th stage of affairs was simply the division 00:08:56.80\00:09:02.29 of the empire of Rome into 10 pieces The barbarian invasions 00:09:02.32\00:09:07.78 of that whole. And so these are fittingly symbolized 00:09:08.10\00:09:11.68 by the 10 horns on this beast. Now after Daniel had seen these 00:09:11.71\00:09:17.99 10 horns, he describes another horn that came on the scene. 00:09:18.02\00:09:23.64 It says in verse 8, I was considering the horns and there 00:09:23.67\00:09:29.51 was another horn, a little one, coming up among them before 00:09:29.54\00:09:34.09 whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. 00:09:34.12\00:09:37.83 Now it gives us further information over here in 00:09:37.86\00:09:41.04 verse 24. He says, The 10 horns are 10 kings and another shall 00:09:41.07\00:09:47.45 arise after them and he shall be different from the first ones. 00:09:47.48\00:09:51.01 I want you to notice 3 distinctive identification marks 00:09:51.04\00:09:55.51 here. The first is, it came up among the ten. 00:09:55.54\00:09:59.19 Secondly, it came up after the 10. And thirdly, 00:09:59.22\00:10:04.46 it plucked up 3 of the horns by the roots. 00:10:04.49\00:10:08.58 Now, its very significant that it says, this little horn was 00:10:08.61\00:10:13.31 different from the others. Now the others were political 00:10:13.34\00:10:16.69 kingdoms and that must surely mean that this is a religious 00:10:16.72\00:10:20.15 kingdom. Now there's only one religious kingdom that fits this 00:10:20.18\00:10:23.46 prophecy, and that is the Roman Catholic Church. 00:10:23.49\00:10:26.16 Now that doesn't mean that we're criticizing 00:10:26.19\00:10:29.04 Roman Catholics. There are some very pious Roman Catholics 00:10:29.07\00:10:33.00 in the Catholic church, very fine people. 00:10:33.03\00:10:34.91 But we're talking about a religious system. 00:10:34.94\00:10:37.73 And this particular system is the only one that fits the 00:10:37.76\00:10:41.86 prophecy. In the first place of course that we're here in Rome, 00:10:41.89\00:10:45.61 and this was right among these 10 kingdoms. And it is true that 00:10:45.64\00:10:50.82 the Roman Catholic church was responsible for plucking up 00:10:50.86\00:10:54.76 3 of these kingdoms. There were the Vandals. There were the 00:10:54.79\00:10:58.66 Ostrogoths and the Alemanni, all of whom were destroyed 00:10:58.70\00:11:02.53 as the result of papal influence. Now it also says 00:11:02.56\00:11:06.13 here, in verse 25, the saints shall be given into his hand 00:11:06.16\00:11:10.99 for a time and times and half a time. In other words, 00:11:11.02\00:11:13.93 it was to be a persecuting power. It was to be responsible 00:11:13.96\00:11:18.11 for the destruction of many of God's people. 00:11:18.14\00:11:20.62 And I regret to say that the Roman Catholic church 00:11:20.65\00:11:24.17 has certainly fulfilled this specification. 00:11:24.20\00:11:27.19 I'm standing in front of the church of St. Bartholomew's 00:11:27.22\00:11:31.81 in London. And on the front of the church there is an 00:11:31.84\00:11:35.05 inscription that refers to the noble army of martyrs 00:11:35.08\00:11:39.00 who perished in this place. You see, this church is in 00:11:39.03\00:11:42.27 Smithfield Mackas and over there under that archway, 00:11:42.30\00:11:46.01 is where hundreds of martyrs were burned at the stake 00:11:46.04\00:11:49.72 during the 16th century A.D. because of their faith in the 00:11:49.75\00:11:53.35 bible and because of their determination to follow 00:11:53.38\00:11:56.37 the bible even though it was in opposition to Rome. 00:11:56.40\00:12:00.78 We are in Oxford in England. And I am standing in front of 00:12:00.81\00:12:05.46 what is know as the martyr memorial. I'd like to read 00:12:05.49\00:12:08.26 to you the inscription that is on this memorial. 00:12:08.29\00:12:10.57 It says, To the glory of God and in grateful commemoration 00:12:10.60\00:12:14.11 of his servants, Cramer, Ridley, and Latimer, prelates of 00:12:14.14\00:12:18.87 the church of England who near this spot yielded their bodies 00:12:18.90\00:12:22.92 to be burned, bearing witness to the sacred truths which 00:12:22.95\00:12:26.26 they had affirmed and maintained against the errors of the church 00:12:26.29\00:12:30.49 of Rome. Now the actual spot is just around the corner, 00:12:30.52\00:12:33.14 and it's marked by a novel cross in the road where they were 00:12:33.17\00:12:37.69 burned at the stake, as were many other martyrs in this 00:12:37.72\00:12:41.38 city. They were godly men. And they believed in the bible. 00:12:41.41\00:12:45.70 But bloody Mary came to the throne and under her 00:12:45.73\00:12:50.08 many perished for their faith. This burning was a terrible 00:12:50.11\00:12:54.81 thing. You know sometimes they burned them slowly, deliberately 00:12:54.84\00:12:59.16 so that they would suffer longer. And if you want a 00:12:59.19\00:13:03.14 bad night's sleep, just read Fox's book of Martyrs where 00:13:03.17\00:13:07.16 some of these public burnings were described. 00:13:07.19\00:13:09.53 Now we are up on the roof of St. Peters and along the front 00:13:09.56\00:13:17.19 of the veranda, 13 statues. In the center of the statue 00:13:17.22\00:13:21.87 of Christ on his right hand is the statue of St. Peter, 00:13:21.90\00:13:25.73 who, it is claimed, was the first pope. 00:13:25.76\00:13:28.45 Now concerning the head of the papal church, who is the pope of 00:13:28.48\00:13:33.55 Rome, the bible says in Daniel 7:25, he shall speak great words 00:13:33.58\00:13:38.85 against the Most High. Now some people say, Yea, but look, 00:13:38.88\00:13:42.29 this is a Christian church and certainly that don't speak 00:13:42.32\00:13:45.20 against God. But I have in my hand here, a little book I 00:13:45.23\00:13:49.57 purchased in a Roman Catholic book shop. And it is about 00:13:49.60\00:13:53.04 priests. Its called A Priest. And it says here, 00:13:53.07\00:13:57.20 First then there is the priest's power over Christ's real body 00:13:57.23\00:14:00.82 the blessed Eucharist. A power which surpasses all others 00:14:00.85\00:14:04.70 ever given to men or angels. Clad in his priestly garments, 00:14:04.73\00:14:08.57 he stands, morning after morning at the altar of sacrifice 00:14:08.60\00:14:11.89 and summons the second person of the all holy trinity 00:14:11.92\00:14:16.78 from heaven and to his priest summons, Jesus Christ gives 00:14:16.81\00:14:20.53 his entire and instant obedience. 00:14:20.56\00:14:23.29 O, Priest, exclaims Saint Augustine, He who created 00:14:23.32\00:14:27.69 you gives you power to create himself. Makes us wonder 00:14:27.72\00:14:32.02 who creates who, doesn't it? Now how many Christ's do you 00:14:32.05\00:14:36.05 think there are? Here is a also on the same sort, that's called 00:14:36.08\00:14:40.44 Other Christ's. And it is about the Roman Catholic priesthood. 00:14:40.47\00:14:44.83 It says, Thus the priests as is said with good reason 00:14:44.86\00:14:48.03 is indeed another Christ. For in some way he is himself a 00:14:48.06\00:14:52.98 continuation of Christ. The Omnipotent greatness of 00:14:53.01\00:14:56.52 of the human priest stands forth in all its splendor; for he has 00:14:56.55\00:15:00.31 power over the very body of Jesus Christ makes it present 00:15:00.34\00:15:04.04 on our altars. In the ordination of a priest, the God seems to 00:15:04.07\00:15:09.16 part with His omnipotence. Christ seems to hand over the 00:15:09.19\00:15:13.15 merits of his life and passion and the Holy Ghost gives the 00:15:13.18\00:15:16.55 key to the immense treasure of spiritual life to a mere man. 00:15:16.58\00:15:20.36 Interesting statements, aren't they? 00:15:20.39\00:15:22.27 Behind me is an obelisk of Ramses the great of Egypt 00:15:37.95\00:15:41.15 and beyond that is what is known as the Pantheon. 00:15:41.18\00:15:44.35 Theos is the Greek word for God and Pan means many, and so you 00:15:44.38\00:15:47.97 got a place of many Gods. And its a great domelike structure, 00:15:48.00\00:15:51.59 very beautifully made, actually, from the very early 00:15:51.62\00:15:53.93 ages, in which were installed many pagan gods. 00:15:53.96\00:15:57.63 Now this very well illustrates how paganism came into the 00:15:57.66\00:16:01.94 Christian church; because this was converted into a Christian 00:16:01.97\00:16:06.23 church and instead of the pagan gods, there were now 00:16:06.26\00:16:09.18 installed images or statues of various saints, 00:16:09.21\00:16:13.57 the virgin Mary and so forth. And it was used as a church. 00:16:13.60\00:16:16.78 Well now, this illustrates how sun worship came into the church 00:16:16.81\00:16:20.88 too; because this was in particular a place of sun 00:16:20.91\00:16:23.72 worship. And so sun worship was adopted into the Christian 00:16:23.75\00:16:27.96 church. And, of course, with sun worship. A form of day was 00:16:27.99\00:16:33.03 observed, in other words, Sunday or the day of the sun. 00:16:33.06\00:16:35.82 Constantine the great was the first one who passed such a law 00:16:35.85\00:16:38.93 that Sunday should be observed. But later on in the council of 00:16:38.96\00:16:42.86 Laodicea in 331, the Christian council adopted Sunday as the 00:16:42.89\00:16:47.93 day of worship. Its interesting to notice what 00:16:47.96\00:16:50.22 Kennan's catechism has to say about this. 00:16:50.26\00:16:52.51 One day I went into Pelegrinos, you know the Roman Catholic 00:16:56.34\00:16:59.62 book shop. And I purchased this little book called the Convert's 00:16:59.65\00:17:04.85 Catechism of Catholic doctrine. And I was very interested in 00:17:04.88\00:17:09.23 what is says here on page 50. Which is the Sabbath Day? 00:17:09.26\00:17:13.30 Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath Day. Question: Why do we observe 00:17:13.33\00:17:19.03 Sunday instead of Saturday? Answer: We observe Sunday 00:17:19.06\00:17:23.05 instead of Saturday because the Catholic church in the council 00:17:23.08\00:17:26.13 of Laodicea, A.D. 336, transferred the solemnity 00:17:26.16\00:17:31.27 from Saturday to Sunday. Rather interesting, isn't it? 00:17:31.30\00:17:34.85 You know that prophecy we were talking about in Daniel, chapter 00:17:34.88\00:17:39.99 7, says, concerning the antichrist, in verse 25, 00:17:40.02\00:17:45.43 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall 00:17:45.46\00:17:49.10 persecute the saints of the Most High and shall intend to 00:17:49.13\00:17:52.97 change times and law. Now what law is he talking about? 00:17:53.00\00:17:58.17 Obviously its talking about the law of God and speaking about a 00:17:58.20\00:18:00.87 time element in that law. And of course that is referring to 00:18:00.90\00:18:04.11 the Sabbath Day. So the prophecy said that the papacy would try 00:18:04.14\00:18:10.07 to change the law of God, particularly the time element 00:18:10.10\00:18:12.91 of it. And we ask Rome, Did you do it? And the Catholic church 00:18:12.94\00:18:17.83 says, Sure. Yea, we did it. In the council of Laodicea. 00:18:17.86\00:18:21.68 A.D. 336. Now of course there are some people who feel that 00:18:21.71\00:18:28.14 Christ must have changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. 00:18:28.17\00:18:31.90 But remember that sermon on the mount that he preached? 00:18:31.93\00:18:35.18 In Matthew 5 and in verse 17, Jesus says, Do not think that I 00:18:35.21\00:18:41.27 come to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to 00:18:41.30\00:18:44.94 destroy but to fulfill. That is he kept God's law, his father's 00:18:44.97\00:18:48.81 law. For assuredly I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, 00:18:48.84\00:18:52.48 one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all 00:18:52.51\00:18:57.95 is fulfilled. Now what did Jesus mean by a jot or a tittle? 00:18:57.98\00:19:03.65 Let me just explain something about the Hebrew alphabet. 00:19:03.68\00:19:08.47 It goes from right to left, you know, and its written something 00:19:08.50\00:19:12.77 like this. This is Aleph, Beth, and then Gimmal, and Daleth, 00:19:12.80\00:19:17.65 and Hey, yad, zayin, Hhet, Tet, yad and so forth, 00:19:17.68\00:19:21.77 you see. Now I want you to notice something about this 00:19:21.80\00:19:23.95 alphabet so as I can explain it to you. We come here to Hhet 00:19:23.98\00:19:28.94 yad. Now you notice that this letter is the smallest letter of 00:19:28.97\00:19:33.89 the Hebrew alphabet. Het is a yad or a jot. 00:19:33.92\00:19:37.99 What is meant by a tittle? There are some Hebrew letters, 00:19:38.02\00:19:42.97 for instance, here is the letter Hey which is very similar to 00:19:43.00\00:19:46.49 this, except for this little projection on the end there. 00:19:46.52\00:19:50.00 and that is a tittle. Another letter, for instance 00:19:50.03\00:19:54.36 Here you've got g or gimal, and here's the letter n. 00:19:54.39\00:19:58.59 Again, you'll notice there's not much difference 00:19:58.62\00:20:00.24 only this little projection here. Now Jesus said, 00:20:00.27\00:20:04.23 Not one yan, this smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet 00:20:04.26\00:20:07.98 or a tittle, just something that's just makes the difference 00:20:08.01\00:20:11.16 between one letter and another is going to pass away from 00:20:11.19\00:20:14.59 this law. Now, I'll show you something very significant. 00:20:14.62\00:20:17.72 Let's have a look at the ten commandments in particular 00:20:17.75\00:20:23.38 the fourth commandment where it says the seventh day is the 00:20:23.41\00:20:27.84 Sabbath of the Lord thy God. Let me write on the blackboard 00:20:27.87\00:20:31.63 for you, the Hebrew word that is used here for seventh. 00:20:31.66\00:20:36.07 And I want you to notice something here. 00:20:36.10\00:20:40.13 It's hashavikey and it has here two Yans in the word 00:20:40.16\00:20:48.92 seventh. You'll also notice there is a tittle. 00:20:48.95\00:20:52.64 Jesus did not change the 7th to the 1st - a totally different 00:20:52.67\00:20:58.12 word,? He said not even a yad or a tittle is going to 00:20:58.15\00:21:04.26 pass from this law. So certainly Jesus Christ 00:21:04.29\00:21:07.93 did not change the Sabbath from the 7th day to the 1st day, 00:21:07.96\00:21:12.35 from Saturday to Sunday. So we notice what the disciples or the 00:21:12.38\00:21:18.41 apostles have to say in Hebrews chapter 4, and in verse 9. 00:21:18.44\00:21:24.06 The great apostle Paul said, There remains therefore a rest 00:21:24.09\00:21:28.64 for the people of God. The word that is used there for rest, 00:21:28.67\00:21:32.06 literally means a Sabbath keeping - a keeping of Sabbath. 00:21:32.09\00:21:34.66 Paul said, There remains, it hasn't gone. 00:21:34.69\00:21:37.33 It hasn't been changed, it remains a keeping of Sabbath 00:21:37.36\00:21:40.86 remains as far as the new testament writers 00:21:40.89\00:21:44.73 are concerned. Well, now you might say, does it really matter 00:21:44.76\00:21:49.04 What does it matter whether its the 7th day or the 1st day? 00:21:49.07\00:21:52.61 Well, if you read the bible carefully, I think you will 00:21:52.64\00:21:56.35 notice that it does really matter; because here 00:21:56.38\00:22:00.28 for instance in the book of Romans, chapter 6 and in 00:22:00.31\00:22:03.60 verse 16, it says, Do you not know that to whom you present 00:22:03.63\00:22:08.46 yourselves slaves to obey, your are that one's slaves 00:22:08.49\00:22:12.93 whom you obey, whether its sin to death or of obedience 00:22:12.96\00:22:17.18 to righteousness. You see its the question of obedience. 00:22:17.21\00:22:19.72 If God says, and this law was spoken through Jesus Christ 00:22:19.75\00:22:24.00 that the 7th day is the Sabbath, and the Catholic church says, 00:22:24.03\00:22:29.21 the 1st day is the Sabbath, its a matter of obedience. 00:22:29.24\00:22:32.09 Are you going to obey the bible or are you going to do what 00:22:32.12\00:22:36.43 the Catholic church says should be done? 00:22:36.46\00:22:38.69 Well, I think you would say that we should follow the bible. 00:22:38.72\00:22:41.48 Shouldn't we? I also want you to notice what Jesus said, 00:22:41.51\00:22:45.56 in John, chapter 14, and in verse 15. He says, If you love 00:22:45.59\00:22:51.70 me keep my commandments. It is also the question of love. 00:22:51.73\00:22:56.16 See, its not just a matter of legal obedience. Its a case of 00:22:56.19\00:22:59.99 who do you love. And if the Lord Jesus Christ died for us on 00:23:00.02\00:23:04.33 the cross, and given his life for our sins, surely that should 00:23:04.36\00:23:09.44 provoke our love. And he says, If you love me, keep my 00:23:09.47\00:23:13.28 commandments. In our next program, 00:23:13.31\00:23:16.08 we'll be exploring the remarkable catacombs 00:23:16.11\00:23:19.27 of Bethsurin in Israel, Where the members of the Sanhedrin 00:23:19.30\00:23:23.62 were buried in the 2nd century A.D. And David will be talking 00:23:23.65\00:23:28.22 about some very strange burial places when he explains what 00:23:28.25\00:23:32.47 happens when we die. 00:23:32.50\00:23:35.57
