Previously on Destination 1040. 00:00:00.73\00:00:02.56 We are here in the countryside of Rukum, here in Nepal. 00:00:02.60\00:00:06.97 We got here yesterday, so it dropped down into the lower thirties last night. 00:00:07.00\00:00:12.14 Thankfully, we had good sleeping bags. 00:00:12.64\00:00:14.31 They weren't too bad. 00:00:14.34\00:00:15.48 The ground here is really rocky, but there are a few crops that 00:00:15.98\00:00:20.88 they can grow. Rice can't grow up here, it's too cold. 00:00:20.92\00:00:23.69 Many people, they don't know the real situation here. 00:00:24.82\00:00:27.86 And now, you are here, you have a first hand experience. Okay. 00:00:28.09\00:00:33.46 I have great respect for this man here. 00:00:33.50\00:00:36.93 Such a difficult place to work. 00:00:37.67\00:00:39.63 And yet he is 00:00:39.67\00:00:41.74 on fire for the Lord 00:00:41.77\00:00:44.24 Today we leave this place. 00:00:44.27\00:00:45.74 But, I think a piece of our hearts will always be here with 00:00:45.87\00:00:50.91 these people. That's the thing about being a missionary. 00:00:51.11\00:00:53.31 The impact these people have on your life will forever be with 00:00:53.35\00:00:57.12 you until the day you meet again. 00:00:57.15\00:00:58.72 Well, good morning from eastern Nepal. 00:01:10.03\00:01:12.43 Oh, look at this. Oh wow! 00:01:12.87\00:01:15.77 That is a huge snail. 00:01:15.80\00:01:18.24 Okay. 00:01:18.71\00:01:21.78 That was a distraction. 00:01:21.81\00:01:24.85 Hi. Hi. 00:01:47.54\00:01:48.80 How are you doing? Good. Nice. 00:01:48.84\00:01:51.44 What is this all about? 00:01:51.47\00:01:52.87 Laundry. Oh, yeah. 00:01:52.91\00:01:55.58 Very important. 00:01:55.61\00:01:57.45 We have a lot of dirty clothes. We do have a lot 00:01:57.48\00:02:00.08 of dirty clothes. 00:02:00.12\00:02:01.58 Thank you for your hard work doing this. 00:02:01.62\00:02:04.69 Part of foreign travel. 00:02:05.09\00:02:08.76 Well, hello and welcome 00:02:21.80\00:02:23.14 to another episode of Destination 1040. 00:02:23.17\00:02:26.14 Thanks for choosing to spend your time with us today. 00:02:26.17\00:02:28.18 We're looking forward to it. 00:02:28.21\00:02:30.98 This episode is a wrap up episode 00:02:31.01\00:02:33.21 for our time here in the country of Nepal. 00:02:33.25\00:02:36.32 Today we are in eastern Nepal 00:02:36.65\00:02:38.85 and we are headed to visit one of our faithful Bible Workers 00:02:38.89\00:02:42.19 who is making a huge impact in his village and the surrounding 00:02:42.22\00:02:46.96 communities. Namaste. 00:02:54.54\00:02:56.07 Good to meet you, sir. 00:02:56.10\00:02:59.17 The hospitality shown in 00:03:00.64\00:03:02.11 these cultures is quite foreign to people living in the Western 00:03:02.14\00:03:05.88 world. Pair that with a love for Jesus and a love for others. 00:03:06.51\00:03:09.18 And these people have nothing but love for us and the people 00:03:09.22\00:03:14.39 they work with. They are making us lunch. 00:03:14.99\00:03:18.09 If they don't use the gas stove, this is what they use here. 00:03:18.76\00:03:21.86 They have two kitchens. 00:03:21.90\00:03:22.93 This is the second 00:03:22.96\00:03:26.03 Do you miss our kitty? Yes, I do. 00:03:29.50\00:03:33.14 It looks good. 00:03:34.84\00:03:36.75 Yes, it's very good. 00:03:36.78\00:03:38.61 We're having some food that they prepared for us. 00:03:38.65\00:03:41.02 It's quite different here compared to Rukum. 00:03:41.05\00:03:44.15 It's much flatter here. The mountains are smaller, 00:03:44.19\00:03:46.79 but there are some amazing Bible Workers here that we're working 00:03:46.82\00:03:49.89 with. And we're just having some lunch that they 00:03:51.49\00:03:55.96 Flies. 00:03:57.07\00:03:58.90 So what do the people do here mainly for a living? 00:03:58.93\00:04:02.04 Are they are they farmers? 00:04:02.07\00:04:03.57 Agriculture. Farming only. 00:04:03.61\00:04:05.37 One of the reoccurring themes that I have noticed while 00:04:05.41\00:04:08.01 traveling for Gospel Outreach over the years is these Bible Workers live very humble lives. 00:04:08.04\00:04:13.18 They are living on a Bible worker stipend. 00:04:13.21\00:04:15.55 And so it is not unusual for our workers to have their own 00:04:15.58\00:04:19.42 gardens, to keep their living expenses low. 00:04:19.45\00:04:21.79 Can I try? 00:04:21.82\00:04:23.66 Show me how. 00:04:23.69\00:04:26.06 I show you. I show you. Ok, show me, show me. 00:04:26.09\00:04:28.60 Ah, so you. 00:04:30.97\00:04:32.47 And then pull. 00:04:32.50\00:04:34.10 Oh cause it's a saw. 00:04:34.44\00:04:35.57 Yeah., yeah, yeah. 00:04:35.60\00:04:37.47 This family has been blessed with a small chunk of land 00:04:39.67\00:04:42.48 where they are able to grow over 90% of the rice they need for 00:04:42.51\00:04:47.05 the year. After visiting the family's personal field, 00:05:03.73\00:05:05.60 our Bible worker was all too excited to take us to visit 00:05:05.63\00:05:09.67 a well-respected political leader for the area. 00:05:09.70\00:05:13.21 Namaste 00:05:15.88\00:05:17.05 This political leader is not a Christian, but he lives just up 00:05:20.78\00:05:24.69 the road from the local Adventist church, and he became 00:05:24.72\00:05:28.56 very good friends with our Bible worker and his family. 00:05:28.59\00:05:31.66 For several years, he and his family showed no interest in 00:05:36.36\00:05:40.97 Christianity. But our Bible worker and his family became very close friends with him. 00:05:41.44\00:05:45.57 Often times in the late afternoon during the heat of the 00:05:46.37\00:05:49.24 day, you will find this political leader at our Bible 00:05:49.28\00:05:52.61 Worker's house asking him for advice on some matters that he's 00:05:52.65\00:05:56.35 dealing with. One day the political leader was visiting 00:06:11.33\00:06:14.00 our Bible worker and he asked him, Why are you so kind to me 00:06:14.04\00:06:17.84 and my family? Our Bible worker simply responded, Well, you see, 00:06:18.24\00:06:22.38 sir, it's simple. The God that I serve has put a love in my heart 00:06:22.81\00:06:25.85 for people. Now, through the work of the Holy Spirit and this 00:06:27.42\00:06:30.82 man's curiosity, he and his family are now taking Bible studies with our Bible worker. 00:06:30.85\00:06:35.52 When I see just how effective this simple friendship 00:06:38.63\00:06:44.13 evangelism works throughout the world, I realize that we can all 00:06:44.17\00:06:48.44 do this. You don't have to be a pastor. 00:06:48.47\00:06:50.21 You don't have to be a scholar. 00:06:50.24\00:06:52.21 You just need to show 00:06:52.24\00:06:53.24 the love of Jesus to others and allow the Holy Spirit to work. 00:06:53.61\00:06:56.88 So we are in eastern Nepal right now, which is a little different 00:06:56.91\00:07:02.05 than West Nepal. The mountains aren't quite as tall and it's a little warmer here. 00:07:02.08\00:07:05.79 We're actually quite close to the Indian border, Right. 00:07:05.82\00:07:09.09 We're close to the India border? Yeah. 00:07:09.12\00:07:11.59 We're going to see the church. Yes. Which we drove by on the 00:07:11.63\00:07:14.86 way up here. And it was quite nice. 00:07:14.93\00:07:16.33 So I'm looking forward to seeing the inside. 00:07:16.36\00:07:19.33 When I was a young boy. 00:07:25.51\00:07:27.21 My grandmother taught me the ways of witchcraft, 00:07:27.24\00:07:30.28 and that carried on her legacy of being a witch doctor myself. 00:07:30.31\00:07:35.15 After many years of working in this position in my village, 00:07:35.48\00:07:38.95 I came down with an illness 00:07:39.25\00:07:41.72 that kept me bedridden and unable to work. 00:07:41.76\00:07:45.36 For many months. 00:07:45.39\00:07:47.23 I tried everything I knew, but 00:07:47.30\00:07:49.50 I simply wasn't getting any better. 00:07:49.53\00:07:52.80 Finally, out of desperation, 00:07:53.07\00:07:55.70 I traveled to a church in another village. 00:07:55.74\00:07:58.54 How long has this church been here? 00:07:58.57\00:08:00.84 15 years. 15 years? 00:08:00.88\00:08:03.65 I prayed to God and said, 00:08:03.91\00:08:06.72 If you are real and can hear me, please 00:08:06.75\00:08:10.02 help and heal me so that I can take care of my family. 00:08:10.05\00:08:14.39 I felt a peace come over me 00:08:14.62\00:08:17.19 and returned to my home with hope in my heart. 00:08:17.23\00:08:21.43 She's sick. 00:08:22.70\00:08:23.50 Oh, she is sick. Oh, no. 00:08:23.53\00:08:25.57 She's having fever. Oh, no. 00:08:25.60\00:08:28.20 Can we 00:08:29.80\00:08:30.51 Can we pray for her? 00:08:30.54\00:08:33.61 When my health improved 00:08:38.05\00:08:39.48 so rapidly, I was astonished. 00:08:39.51\00:08:42.58 I had never once seen a case like this 00:08:42.92\00:08:45.92 in all my days working as a witch doctor. 00:08:45.95\00:08:49.19 My surprise drove me to begin 00:08:49.49\00:08:52.03 Bible studies to learn more about this powerful God. 00:08:52.06\00:08:56.43 I soon became baptized with my family following my example soon 00:08:56.70\00:09:03.14 after. I was so excited to share with others 00:09:03.17\00:09:05.87 my testimony of this great God I was now serving. 00:09:05.91\00:09:09.81 This convinced me that I must make this 00:09:10.21\00:09:13.88 my full time work to bring people to Jesus. 00:09:13.92\00:09:18.92 There's my sweet wife filming some goats. 00:09:34.97\00:09:38.71 Every time I travel, I'm acutely aware as to 00:09:39.51\00:09:43.24 how silly it is to just film everything. 00:09:43.28\00:09:46.65 But it's important 00:09:47.65\00:09:49.38 because you're trying to tell you a story. 00:09:49.42\00:09:51.59 We're trying anyway. 00:09:51.62\00:09:53.39 Like, here's a pig. 00:09:53.42\00:09:54.79 These are the kind of things that we see here. 00:09:54.82\00:09:57.49 It's very normal. And us filming ourselves Everybody's laughing. 00:09:57.53\00:10:01.56 I know they're laughing at us for a reason. 00:10:01.60\00:10:04.37 And then turn? 00:10:13.51\00:10:15.31 I see. 00:10:15.34\00:10:16.98 Yeah. 00:10:17.01\00:10:18.91 Wow! 00:10:19.78\00:10:21.15 We are making rice flour, it I understand correctly. 00:10:21.18\00:10:25.42 It's sweet. 00:10:25.45\00:10:26.55 Oh, interesting. 00:10:26.59\00:10:29.39 You know, it's so crazy seeing where these people live. 00:10:30.19\00:10:33.56 The little that they have. 00:10:33.60\00:10:34.66 And yet they seem so content and happy about their lives. 00:10:34.73\00:10:38.77 When we, when we come and we film everything. 00:10:48.21\00:10:51.35 What do you guys think? 00:10:51.38\00:10:52.88 Do people not like it? 00:10:52.91\00:10:54.42 Are they okay with it? 00:10:54.45\00:10:56.18 What we think is you guys are going to inspire someone we think like that. Yeah. Yeah. 00:10:56.22\00:11:01.26 To inspire someone. 00:11:01.29\00:11:03.09 He is happy. And he is telling us his photo. 00:11:03.36\00:11:09.36 American people can see his photo. 00:11:09.40\00:11:12.60 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:11:13.23\00:11:14.90 He is happy for that. 00:11:14.94\00:11:17.84 Ok. I think we're leaving. 00:11:23.45\00:11:26.15 We're leaving. But it's been a nice visit. 00:11:26.18\00:11:28.65 Yeah, it really has been. Yeah. 00:11:28.68\00:11:30.29 Always good to meet people. Always sad to say goodbye. 00:11:30.32\00:11:33.59 We'll see them again someday. 00:11:33.62\00:11:36.06 Day two here in eastern Nepal. 00:12:03.59\00:12:08.36 We're going to visit another one of our Bible Workers today. 00:12:08.39\00:12:11.33 I'm excited to meet him. 00:12:11.36\00:12:13.29 Yesterday, I wear shorts, 00:12:13.33\00:12:15.03 but today I'm wearing pants because we're riding a motorcycle for many hours. 00:12:15.06\00:12:19.40 And I figured if we wreck 00:12:19.43\00:12:21.50 I would rather have gravel and fibers 00:12:21.54\00:12:25.81 in in me than just gravel. 00:12:25.84\00:12:29.74 Oh, really? Yeah. 00:12:29.78\00:12:31.68 The bikes were very dirty from yesterday, so they washed them. 00:12:31.71\00:12:35.68 So our brother, 00:12:45.79\00:12:47.23 one of the drivers, he's never hungry when we leave the house. 00:12:47.23\00:12:50.53 But as soon as we leave the house, he's hungry for 00:12:50.57\00:12:56.84 restaurant food. What are they doing? They're selling lemons? 00:13:02.08\00:13:04.65 Yeah. Is that what it was? Lemons? Yeah. 00:13:04.68\00:13:06.75 Or limes. Limes. 00:13:06.78\00:13:07.85 They're really limes but everyone calls them lemons. 00:13:07.88\00:13:09.65 Really cheap. 00:13:09.68\00:13:12.75 These motorcycle journeys were no easy joyride. 00:13:18.63\00:13:21.56 In fact, this journey took us over 00:13:21.60\00:13:23.53 two and a half hours, one way into the high mountains of east 00:13:23.57\00:13:27.50 Nepal. We're getting closer to the church. 00:13:28.37\00:13:31.51 Alcohol consumption is a major problem in the country of Nepal. 00:13:52.69\00:13:56.36 The people in these remote villages don't have easy access 00:13:56.73\00:14:00.60 to liquor stores, so they resort to making their own out of rice. 00:14:00.64\00:14:03.84 Rice is spoiled, rice is there. 00:14:03.87\00:14:06.41 When this water is hot. 00:14:06.44\00:14:08.91 They remove hot water, and they'll put again, cold water. 00:14:08.94\00:14:14.32 This heavy consumption causes so much unrest in families 00:14:14.35\00:14:18.62 as oftentimes things turn to violence while on this strong 00:14:18.65\00:14:22.49 drink. Alcohol in Nepal is very traditional during Hindu festivals and ceremonies. 00:14:22.52\00:14:27.50 During these times, everyone partakes, including the 00:14:27.56\00:14:31.67 children. Sadly, this creates a dependency at a very young age 00:14:31.70\00:14:34.57 and is incredibly damaging to the future of so many young 00:14:34.60\00:14:39.17 people. Our Bible Workers often face the challenge of bringing a 00:14:40.31\00:14:45.25 message of health to these people and educating them on the dangers of alcohol. 00:14:45.28\00:14:49.22 Now, this woman's husband, sadly died just a few short years ago. 00:14:49.75\00:14:54.26 Without the support of her husband working in the fields, 00:14:54.29\00:14:56.89 she has resorted to making and selling alcohol to support 00:14:56.93\00:15:02.80 herself. What is your house life like? 00:15:34.10\00:15:37.37 So. So how long has he been a Go Bible Worker? 00:15:41.20\00:15:44.74 Ten years. Ten years. 00:15:45.11\00:15:48.24 So down in the flatlands, 00:15:49.58\00:15:51.35 It's much easier for Bible Workers to travel long distances 00:15:51.38\00:15:54.75 because they can ride a bicycle or they can have a motorbike. 00:15:54.78\00:16:00.22 But up here, sometimes it's difficult. This is your home. 00:17:44.49\00:17:46.63 This man's done this a few times. 00:18:25.20\00:18:28.54 City life and village life is totally different. 00:18:29.14\00:18:33.61 You hold it like this. Yes. 00:18:35.01\00:18:37.11 Hold like this 00:18:37.15\00:18:38.61 Oh, yes. Ooh. 00:18:40.05\00:18:41.58 Yes. 00:18:42.15\00:18:43.72 I got myself 00:19:23.99\00:19:25.49 a little covered in seeds, and they're very sticky. 00:19:25.53\00:19:29.03 Kind of like the hound's tongue back home. 00:19:29.06\00:19:32.03 They stick. 00:19:32.07\00:19:32.90 Seems like much worse than the hound's tongue. 00:19:33.13\00:19:34.90 It's worse because it's you can't hardly grab them. They're 00:19:34.94\00:19:40.51 so tiny and flat. My name is Chandra Kumar Rai. 00:19:44.45\00:19:46.65 And for the last ten years, I have been working in the Lord's 00:19:46.68\00:19:52.09 service. I was born into a Hindu family and my father was an 00:19:57.53\00:20:01.66 alcoholic. Often he would come home from the field and beat my 00:20:02.10\00:20:06.23 mother. Our household had no peace and we lived in fear of 00:20:06.94\00:20:11.61 his wrath. When I was 19 years old, I met a beautiful girl 00:20:12.44\00:20:15.68 at a village gathering and fell in love at first sight. 00:20:15.71\00:20:19.81 I soon learned she was a Christian and attended a church over the hill from our village. 00:20:22.82\00:20:28.06 I noticed right away a significant difference in her 00:20:28.09\00:20:33.09 family. They had a peace in their home 00:20:35.10\00:20:36.73 that I had never seen before. 00:20:36.77\00:20:39.93 As I visited her family more often, 00:20:49.48\00:20:51.78 she told me that she could not marry me unless 00:20:51.81\00:20:54.72 I found Jesus and accepted him into my life. 00:20:54.75\00:20:58.45 So I began attending the church 00:20:58.49\00:21:01.09 and taking Bible studies from one of the elders. 00:21:01.12\00:21:04.46 Through this process, I soon found the peace 00:21:04.49\00:21:07.13 that I had seen in this young woman's life. 00:21:07.13\00:21:10.37 This peace was one that passes all understanding. 00:21:10.40\00:21:13.57 And I was convicted and baptized. 00:21:13.60\00:21:16.54 At first, my family shunned me and wanted nothing to do with 00:21:17.91\00:21:22.28 me. They told their friends that I was dead. 00:21:22.74\00:21:25.78 But God was working in their hearts 00:21:26.31\00:21:28.35 and as they witnessed a complete transformation in my life, 00:21:28.38\00:21:31.75 they desired that same peace which I had found. 00:21:31.79\00:21:35.12 We just arrived at the church here in Gosth Danda village 00:21:35.72\00:21:40.06 The classic rock structure here in the mountains of Nepal. 00:21:40.80\00:21:46.07 It's so crazy how they stack these stones just 00:21:46.53\00:21:50.07 so perfectly. 00:21:51.77\00:21:54.24 And the walls are really, really thick as well. 00:21:54.28\00:21:56.51 Helps with insulation and in the winter and it helps keep it cool 00:21:56.54\00:22:02.48 in the summer. Today, my whole family has been baptized and my father has given up alcohol. 00:22:03.12\00:22:08.89 They are now an example to their friends and neighbors 00:22:08.92\00:22:12.59 about what God has done for them. 00:22:12.63\00:22:15.83 I have also been blessed to have married that young girl 00:22:24.47\00:22:27.71 who introduced me to Jesus all those years ago. 00:22:27.74\00:22:32.08 She has been a wonderful companion in my life 00:22:38.29\00:22:40.96 and my ministry as well. 00:22:40.99\00:22:44.06 Namaste 00:22:46.19\00:22:49.06 That is a honey bee home. Very natural honey is there. 00:22:53.17\00:22:57.44 So they brought they brought the honey bees 00:22:57.47\00:22:59.54 and they put them there and now they live there. 00:22:59.57\00:23:02.71 Hi. 00:23:04.65\00:23:05.71 His mother 00:23:06.35\00:23:07.35 and his wife and his daughter. 00:23:07.38\00:23:10.59 I want to say thank you to this organization 00:23:12.89\00:23:15.49 for sponsoring us in our work for the Lord. 00:23:15.52\00:23:18.83 Regardless of the money, 00:23:18.86\00:23:20.46 I will always have a fire in my heart for sharing the good news 00:23:20.50\00:23:25.17 with others. But to be sponsored and allowed the 00:23:25.53\00:23:28.70 opportunity to make this my full time work is a very special 00:23:28.74\00:23:33.74 privilege. Yes. Yes. I born here only. Yeah. 00:23:49.52\00:23:53.60 Now, if you have watched any of our episodes here in Nepal, 00:23:54.63\00:23:57.57 you may have noticed that this man has been one of the main 00:23:57.60\00:24:01.67 characters in our episodes. 00:24:01.70\00:24:03.27 His name is Keshab, and he was traveling with us 00:24:03.30\00:24:05.81 a large majority of the time we were here in Nepal. 00:24:05.84\00:24:08.98 Keshab is a pastor in the lowlands here in eastern Nepal. 00:24:09.01\00:24:11.88 And on our return journey from visiting our Bible Worker, 00:24:11.91\00:24:15.92 Chandra, we stopped for a short visit to see where he grew up. 00:24:15.95\00:24:19.02 Oh, There are some yellow ones. Oh, this ones cool. Yeah, Yeah. It's like, Oh, yeah. together. 00:24:19.05\00:24:24.43 Keshab is a very kind, devoted pastor 00:24:24.46\00:24:26.73 who loves the Lord and is always up for an adventure. 00:24:26.76\00:24:29.76 We cannot thank him enough for his assistance during our time 00:24:29.80\00:24:33.87 in Nepal. Oh, brother. Thank you 00:24:33.90\00:24:36.14 As our time here in Nepal was coming to a close, we were 00:25:56.58\00:26:02.26 feeling quite sad. For the three weeks we were traveling through 00:26:02.69\00:26:04.96 Nepal, We grew to love these people. 00:26:04.99\00:26:07.50 We've seen the great need in this country, both spiritual and 00:26:07.50\00:26:11.87 physical. We now better understand the challenges 00:26:11.90\00:26:14.57 our Bible Workers face every single day. 00:26:14.60\00:26:18.17 Something that I have learned through my travels 00:26:19.07\00:26:21.41 within Hindu dominated cultures is that Hinduism 00:26:21.44\00:26:24.95 is more culture than it is religion or belief. 00:26:24.98\00:26:28.88 It is your identity. 00:26:28.92\00:26:30.32 It's where you live and who you are. 00:26:30.35\00:26:33.05 So even when someone is introduce to Jesus and accepts 00:26:33.09\00:26:36.79 him as their personal savior, it is often very difficult 00:26:36.83\00:26:39.93 for them to give up the Hindu culture completely. 00:26:39.96\00:26:43.77 This is one of the biggest challenges our workers face in 00:26:50.31\00:26:55.04 these cultures. But you know what? 00:26:55.64\00:26:56.54 This is something that is faced in every culture. 00:26:56.75\00:27:00.42 So before we leave you today, I want to ask you to ponder this 00:27:00.45\00:27:05.62 question. What is something that I am holding on to in my life 00:27:05.65\00:27:09.26 that is more about culture and less about Jesus? 00:27:09.29\00:27:12.79 If you have a good answer to that question, then I encourage 00:27:13.19\00:27:16.30 you to give that thing to Jesus. 00:27:16.33\00:27:18.37 Let him take that desire away from you. 00:27:18.40\00:27:21.37 Give him the power to work in your life. 00:27:21.40\00:27:25.34 Lastly, I want to ask you to pray. 00:27:28.31\00:27:30.98 Pray for our workers in Nepal, pray for Singerman, for Haiendra, for Chandra. 00:27:31.01\00:27:35.88 Pray that Jesus will give them the strength and encouragement 00:27:35.92\00:27:40.06 to continue spreading this great message of love and hope. 00:27:40.09\00:27:44.23 Hello, everyone. 00:27:54.90\00:27:55.80 Thank you so much for watching this episode of Destination 00:27:56.34\00:27:59.01 1040.
