00:04 Welcome to the Dynamics In The Science Of Prayer,
00:06 a seminar that will help open the windows of your soul
00:10 and allow you to pray as never before.
00:13 And now here's your host, Pastor Tyrone Phillips.
00:17 Hello, welcome to the Dynamics In The Science Of Prayer
00:21 special prayer series.
00:23 I'm your host, Pastor Tyrone Phillips
00:26 and I'm going to be sharing some important concepts
00:29 on the dynamics in the science of prayer.
00:33 Already we've been discussing some most important
00:36 aspects about prayer.
00:38 In our previous telecast, we talked about the
00:41 prayer life of Jesus Christ.
00:43 Now this is a twelve part series.
00:47 This is telecast number four where we'll be talking about
00:51 establishing your prayer life.
00:57 But before we go any further, let's bow our heads in prayer.
01:00 Our loving Father, we thank You for the privilege
01:03 of learning how to pray.
01:05 We thank You for also teaching us how to
01:08 approach You in prayer.
01:10 Bless us now in establishing our prayer lives.
01:13 May each viewing participant receive a blessing.
01:16 For we ask it in Jesus' name, amen.
01:19 Alright, as I said, we've been moving along quite nicely.
01:24 And there have been quite a few interesting points
01:28 that we brought out.
01:29 Some points that I don't want you to forget.
01:32 You see, already we've talked about the mere fact that Jesus
01:36 is our example in learning how to pray.
01:39 We also discovered that based on Luke chapter 2
01:43 verses 40 and 41, but also verse 52,
01:47 that Jesus learned how to pray from His parents.
01:51 And so it's so important for parents who are listening
01:54 to learn these vital principles so that you can educate
01:58 your children in learning how to pray.
02:00 We talked about the mere fact that Jesus learned the
02:02 importance of Bible study, prayer, worship, witnessing,
02:07 and the sharing of His faith.
02:09 We also shared that Jesus demonstrated seven main aspects
02:14 of prayer during His ministry.
02:17 He demonstrated these things.
02:27 Jesus demonstrated seven main aspects of prayer
02:31 throughout His ministry.
02:32 And we made scriptural comments on each area.
02:35 We talked about these areas.
02:46 Seven main area.
02:48 We want you to benefit from that.
02:50 But one of the things we also stressed is that
02:53 after Jesus prayed, then He lived His prayers.
02:57 It's one thing to pray, my viewing audience,
03:00 but it's another thing to live what you pray.
03:04 And so we want to talk about some of those important things.
03:07 Now look at this beautiful picture of a family
03:09 sitting at the dinner table.
03:12 This is something that we want to stress and make clear
03:16 in your hearts and mine, that we want mothers and fathers
03:20 to bring the children together and learn the importance
03:24 of coming together for family worship.
03:27 You see, family worship is very important.
03:29 And family worship should consist of a set time,
03:33 a special place in the home.
03:36 It could be at the dinner table, it could be in your living room,
03:39 it could be in your dining room, it could be in your den.
03:42 It could be any designated place in the home.
03:45 It's important that the family sing a song
03:50 in praise and honor to God.
03:52 And then perhaps the father can read a special portion of
03:56 scripture from the Bible or maybe read from a
03:59 devotional book.
04:00 Then after he's given or read his devotional thought,
04:04 maybe make a few comments and then take some prayer requests
04:08 from each member of the family.
04:10 Then after that has been done, someone can lead out in prayer.
04:14 But always, it's very important for the father to remember,
04:19 he is the priest of his household.
04:22 He should assemble and bring his family together.
04:26 Because you see, the members of the family; their soul salvation
04:30 is at stake because of the leadership of the father.
04:34 But in the event that the father is not present in the home,
04:38 then the mother is to take that responsibility and assemble
04:42 the children, assemble the family together,
04:46 or those who ever are visiting in the household,
04:48 together for worship.
04:50 This is so very important.
04:52 You see, family members learn the importance of this
04:55 key element in raising a family and establishing a home.
04:58 As I said, the father is the key individual in the family members
05:04 learning about God's plan of salvation.
05:07 Remember now, in Genesis chapter 7 verse 1, how
05:12 after God had given Noah instruction in how to build
05:16 the ark, the Bible says in Genesis chapter 7 verse 1,
05:21 "And the Lord said unto Noah, 'Come though and all thy house
05:24 into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before Me
05:28 in this generation. '"
05:30 So Noah was a very important figure in, not only him
05:36 being saved, but his wife, his three sons and their wives.
05:40 And so God used him as a means of getting his family ready.
05:45 And worship was a key element.
05:47 But also now, Noah is not the only one that
05:50 we could to talk about.
05:51 We could also turn to Genesis chapter 18 and look at verse 19
05:56 where we discover that God is getting ready to destroy
06:00 Sodom and Gomorrah.
06:02 But before He does, He makes sure that Abraham
06:04 is made aware of this.
06:06 And the Bible says in Genesis 18 beginning at verse 18,
06:10 "Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great
06:14 and mightily nation, and all the nations of the earth shall
06:17 shall be blessed in him?"
06:18 And then verse 19, the Lord says something very significant
06:23 about Abraham which shows that Abraham had established
06:26 a habit of bringing his family together for family worship
06:30 morning and evening.
06:31 The Bible says, "For I know him that he will command
06:36 his children and his household after him, and they shall
06:41 keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment;
06:45 that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which
06:48 He hath spoken of him. "
06:50 So Abraham did what God said.
06:52 But the point I want to say, it says, "They shall keep the way
06:57 of the Lord. "
06:58 And you know, we've been saying always, beloved,
07:00 that Jesus Christ is our example in all things.
07:04 And the Bible does say in John chapter 14 verse 6,
07:07 quoting Jesus now, "Jesus saith unto him,
07:11 'I am the way, the truth, and the life.
07:14 No man cometh unto the Father but by Me. '"
07:17 And those three individuals who came to visit Abraham
07:21 before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
07:24 were two angels and the Lord, Jesus Christ.
07:27 I want you to know, beloved, that it's so important
07:30 to have family worship.
07:32 But permit me now to add a third dimension
07:35 to this topic about family worship.
07:38 Now family prayer and public prayer are very
07:43 vital and necessary.
07:45 But nothing is to ever take the place of secret prayer.
07:50 And each member of the family should learn how to approach
07:54 God alone, should learn how to pray secretly.
07:59 Now there's a special little book that we like to offer
08:02 from time to time.
08:03 And as you will see our mailing address coming on the screen,
08:07 you can call us and you'll receive a special copy of this.
08:10 But it's a special book entitled, Steps To Christ.
08:13 But in this beautiful book called Steps To Christ
08:16 on page 68 is a statement that makes reference
08:20 to what I just said.
08:21 Let me read it to you.
08:22 It says, "We should pray in the family circle.
08:26 And above all, we must not neglect secret prayer.
08:29 For this is the life of the soul.
08:32 It is impossible for the soul to flourish while
08:35 prayer is neglected.
08:37 Family or public prayer alone is not sufficient. "
08:41 Remember now, family prayer and public prayer
08:45 is not sufficient.
08:47 "In solitude let the soul be laid open to the
08:51 inspecting eye of God.
08:53 Secret prayer is to be heard only by the prayer hearing God.
08:58 No curious ear is to receive the burden of such petitions.
09:03 In secret prayer the soul is free from surrounding
09:08 influences, free from excitement.
09:10 Calmly yet fervently will it reach out after God. "
09:15 And so, my viewing participant, I want you to understand
09:19 the importance of having secret prayer.
09:22 That's what we're emphasizing today in establishing
09:25 your prayer life.
09:26 Now I want to look at some key points in establishing
09:31 a secret prayer habit.
09:34 Yes beloved, the Bible gives sound counsel in establishing
09:39 a regular habit of secret prayer,
09:43 spending quality time with God alone.
09:46 And I want you to write down these text of scripture
09:48 as you hear me mention them because I want you to
09:52 read it for yourself.
09:53 There's nothing like reading the word of God for yourself
09:57 and finding out what a "thus saith the Lord"
10:00 says for yourself.
10:01 Do like those earnest Christians did in Thessalonica.
10:07 In Acts chapter 17 verse 11 the Bible says,
10:11 "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
10:15 in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and
10:19 searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. "
10:22 So don't just take my word for it.
10:24 I want you to read the Bible for yourself.
10:27 And that's why, as you heard me say, we like to depend
10:31 on the word of God to give us our counsel and our instruction.
10:36 We want to do what Jesus said in Matthew 4 verse 4
10:40 where Jesus Himself said, "It is written, 'Man shall not
10:43 live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth
10:46 out of the mouth of God. '"
10:48 So now, let's look at these key points in establishing
10:52 a special secret prayer habit.
10:55 Alright.
11:02 I want to emphasize that now.
11:04 I want you to have a set time every day for secret prayer.
11:09 I shared with you on a previous telecast some important
11:14 text of scriptures about having a set time for secret prayer.
11:19 We talked about Mark chapter 1 verse 35.
11:23 We talked about Psalm 55 and verses 16 and 17.
11:28 But let me just add a few others that I think will be very
11:32 helpful in helping us to see the importance of
11:35 having a set time.
11:36 In the book of Ecclesiastes, in Ecclesiastes chapter 3
11:41 beginning at verse 1, notice what the word of God says.
11:44 "To every thing there is a season and a time to every
11:48 purpose under the heaven.
11:49 A time to be born and a time to die;
11:52 a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
11:55 a time to kill and a time to heal;
11:57 a time to break down and a time to build up;
12:00 a time to weep and a time to laugh;
12:02 a time to mourn and a time to dance;
12:05 a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together;
12:08 a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
12:12 a time to get and a time to lose;
12:14 a time to keep and a time to cast away. "
12:17 Verse 7, "A time to rend and a time to sew;
12:20 a time to keep silence and a time to speak. "
12:25 And "a time to speak" can also include a time to speak
12:29 to God in prayer.
12:31 So we need to have a set time for prayer.
12:34 Many of us who are viewing this telecast right now,
12:38 you have a time to wake up in the morning;
12:40 a time to go to work; a time to go and have some recreation;
12:44 a time to visit your doctor for a special doctor's appointment;
12:48 a time to go shopping; a time to attend a church of your choice;
12:53 a time to attend a school for academic pursuits;
12:59 a time to take a vacation; a time for visiting.
13:02 But beloved, we need to have a set time for prayer.
13:06 Remember now, the Bible gives us many illustrations
13:09 of Bible characters who had set times for prayer.
13:13 For instance, in Daniel chapter 6 we read about
13:20 the prophet Daniel; in Daniel chapter 6 verse 10.
13:24 Daniel had established a habit of having a set time for prayer
13:29 and everybody knew about it.
13:30 The Bible says, Daniel 6 verse 10,
13:33 "Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed,
13:37 he went into his house; and his windows being open
13:39 in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees
13:43 three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God,
13:48 as he did aforetime. "
13:50 In other words, Daniel had a habit of spending quality time
13:54 in prayer three times a day.
13:55 Based on the text that we read in Psalm 55 verses 16 and 17.
14:02 Now let me add something else.
14:04 We need to have a personal private place to be alone
14:09 with God in prayer.
14:11 Now we looked at the example of Jesus that was given in
14:14 Mark 1 verse 35.
14:16 And then we want to look at the counsel that Jesus gave to
14:20 His disciples and those who were listening at that time
14:23 on how to have a secret place to be alone with God in prayer.
14:28 The Bible says in Matthew 6 verse 6,
14:30 He says, "But thou. "
14:32 That is you and I, you who are listening.
14:34 But you who are listening, "when thou prayest. "
14:38 "When" denotes time.
14:41 We ought to have a set time and we ought to have a set place.
14:46 It says, "enter into thy closet. "
14:48 When Jesus said, "enter into thy closet,"
14:51 He was talking about the place.
14:52 So we know we ought to have a set time.
14:54 And Mark 1:35 says He got up early in the morning
14:58 before there was sunrise and He went to a solitary place.
15:03 Solitary means to be alone, to be in secret with God in prayer.
15:07 And the Bible says, "When thou hast shut thy door. "
15:09 So beloved, wherever you go to have this secret prayer,
15:14 to be alone with God in your home.
15:16 It could be in the living room, the dining room, the bathroom,
15:19 the bedroom, the patio, the garage, the sitting room,
15:22 the library, the den, the dining room, the kitchen.
15:25 Wherever you choose to do it, my viewing participants.
15:28 But have a special place in your home where you can be
15:32 alone with God and follow this counsel.
15:34 Because Jesus said, "When thou hast shut thy door,
15:38 pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy
15:42 Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. "
15:46 And then I want you to understand the importance
15:49 of having an established routine.
15:52 Let it be understood, just like you get up in the morning
15:56 and you put your clothes on and you brush your teeth,
15:59 or maybe you take a shower or a bath and you put your
16:02 clothes on, you ought to have an established routine
16:05 about going to your secret place in prayer.
16:08 Now in the Dynamics In The Science Of Prayer seminar manual
16:13 we have a special section which also talks about
16:18 the different schedules that you can develop.
16:22 Alright, I've given you an example for someone
16:26 who works on the first shift.
16:29 Okay, a beginner. Alright?
16:32 And then also I have a schedule for someone who works
16:36 second shift, also a schedule for someone on third shift.
16:40 And also for the individual who is retired.
16:43 So we have a special routine already mapped out for you
16:48 and organized so that you can use it as a means of helping you
16:53 to establish a routine.
16:56 A routine which will be a blessing to the
16:59 members of the family.
17:01 We need to have a set routine in spending quality time
17:06 with God in prayer.
17:08 As I said, we need to look at Jesus.
17:10 Because, once again, He is our example in all things.
17:15 The Bible says now, in 1 Peter chapter 2 looking at verse 21,
17:21 talking about the example of Jesus because He is our example.
17:25 The Bible says in 1 Peter 2 verse 21, "For even hereunto
17:32 were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us,
17:36 leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps. "
17:40 Notice now, we want to follow the steps of Jesus
17:43 in learning how to pray; in learning how to have a set time,
17:47 learning how to have a set place,
17:49 an established place where I can go to be alone,
17:52 but also having a routine.
17:54 A routine so much so that other people will enquire,
17:58 "Will you also give me counsel and insights on how to pray?"
18:06 Because the disciples saw the results of Jesus' prayer life.
18:10 They saw that after He prayed and came out of prayer
18:13 the things that God did in His life.
18:16 The Bible shares something in Hebrews chapter 5 verse 7.
18:21 Hebrews chapter 5 verse 7.
18:23 Looking at the example of Jesus in prayer.
18:27 The Bible says, "Who in the days of His flesh, when He had
18:31 offered up prayers and supplications with strong
18:34 crying and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death,
18:38 and was heard in that He feared; though He were a Son,
18:42 yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered.
18:46 And being made perfect, He became the author of
18:49 eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him. "
18:53 So we see now that Jesus learned obedience by the
18:56 things which He suffered.
18:58 But in spite of all the things that Jesus encountered,
19:01 He had a relationship with His heavenly Father
19:04 that fortified Him.
19:05 Now let me share with you once again the importance
19:08 of one of the resource tools that we use in the
19:14 Dynamics In The Science Of Prayer.
19:16 It's a beautiful little book entitled, The Power Of Prayer.
19:19 And I'm going to read just a quotation to you about the
19:22 example of Jesus in helping you and I to establish
19:25 our prayer lives, because we want to follow His example.
19:28 On page 228, there's a beautiful chapter entitled,
19:31 How Jesus Prayed.
19:33 And the first paragraph is entitled, A Necessity.
19:37 You see, prayer was a necessity for Jesus.
19:39 And it should be for you too, my listening friend,
19:41 my viewing participant.
19:43 If you are desirous of looking for a job, looking for a mate,
19:46 if you need help, if you need counsel,
19:49 I encourage you to take yourself to your secret place
19:54 and spend time in prayer.
19:56 Let me read this to you now.
19:57 It says, "Jesus Himself, while He dwelled among men,
20:01 was often in prayer.
20:02 Our Savior identified Himself with our needs and weaknesses,
20:07 in that He became suppliant, a petitioner,
20:11 seeking from His Father fresh supplies of strength
20:16 that He might come forth braced for duty and trial.
20:20 He is our example in all things.
20:23 He is a brother in our infirmities, in all points
20:27 tempted like as we are.
20:28 But as the sinless one, His nature recoiled from evil.
20:32 He endured struggles and torture of soul
20:35 in a world of sin.
20:37 His humanity made prayer a necessity and a privilege. "
20:42 Notice now, prayer was a necessity and a
20:45 privilege for Jesus.
20:46 "He found comfort and joy in communion with His Father.
20:51 And if the Savior of men, the Son of God,
20:55 felt the need of prayer, how much more should feeble sinful
20:59 mortals feel the necessity of fervent constant prayer. "
21:03 Isn't that beautiful, beloved?
21:05 That the Son of God, He needed to have prayer.
21:08 And so do you and I.
21:10 Then on page 229, there's a few quotations.
21:17 One entitled, Knelt In Prayer.
21:19 It says, "Both in public and in private worship,
21:23 it is our privilege to bow on our knees before the Lord
21:26 when we offer our petitions to Him.
21:30 Jesus, our example, kneeled down and He prayed. "
21:36 Let's get down on our knees, beloved.
21:38 The Bible says, "Let us come and worship,
21:41 let us kneel before the Lord, our maker. "
21:43 So let's get into the habit that as we go into our secret closet
21:47 to be alone with God and we will get down on our knees
21:50 and that we will have our Bibles with us.
21:54 I want to make sure that this is plain and clear
21:57 and simple to you.
21:58 Also this paragraph is entitled, The Secret Of Power.
22:04 Notice what Jesus did.
22:06 It says, "The Saviors life on earth was a life of communion
22:11 with nature and with God. "
22:13 It says, "In this communion, He revealed for us the secret
22:18 of a life of power. "
22:20 You know, it's so important to understand that.
22:23 You see, Jesus is my example.
22:26 And I want to make sure that you understand how to establish
22:29 your own personal prayer habit.
22:32 You can have one, beloved.
22:34 You can center your lifestyle around communion with God.
22:38 Looking at Psalm 55 verses 16 and 17,
22:42 your lifestyle can be centered around communion with God.
22:46 God will be the first, best, and last in your day.
22:49 The Bible says, quoting Jesus, Matthew 6 verse 33,
22:53 He said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God
22:57 and His righteousness. "
22:59 Put God first in your life.
23:02 And now beloved, I want to share some key points also
23:05 which will enhance you in establishing your prayer life.
23:10 Remember now, your discernment of spiritual truth will be
23:14 affected by your diet.
23:16 So do what the Bible says in Isaiah chapter 55 verse 2,
23:21 "Eat ye that which is good. "
23:23 Eat good wholesome nutritious food.
23:26 It will help you, beloved.
23:28 It will enhance your discernment of spiritual truth.
23:33 Strive to reach God's original diet that's given in
23:38 Genesis chapter 1 verses 11 through 12 and verse 29
23:43 concerning fruits, nuts, and grains.
23:45 I want to encourage you, as far as possible,
23:47 get some daily exercise.
23:50 It will strengthen you, it will help you.
23:52 Read 1 Timothy chapter 4 verse 7.
23:55 And as always, I want you to see the importance
24:00 of having the word of God.
24:02 The Bible is illustrated as the sword of the Spirit.
24:07 Read Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12
24:10 and Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17.
24:12 The Bible is the sword of the Spirit.
24:16 And the Bible will give counsel, it'll give guidance,
24:20 it'll give instruction.
24:21 It will help you to cut out those
24:23 things that you don't need.
24:24 But it will also show you how to replace that which is good.
24:27 Beloved, God is going to put good things in place
24:30 of the bad things.
24:31 The Bible says in Hebrews 4 verse 12,
24:34 "For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper
24:36 than any two-edged sword; piercing even to the dividing
24:39 asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow
24:42 and is a discerner of the thoughts and
24:44 intents of the heart. "
24:46 So you can truly be blessed.
24:48 And so I want to encourage you also to obtain some

25:55 Now one of the things that I want to make sure
25:58 that we are doing with this thing about establishing
26:03 a prayer life; we are building a saving relationship
26:08 with Jesus Christ.
26:10 We are going to repent of all wrong doing,
26:14 confess all known sin, accept Jesus Christ as our Savior
26:18 from sin, believe on and in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
26:23 and pray in His name.
26:25 And I know that God is going to bless you real good.
26:29 Beloved, get to know your Bible.
26:31 Spend quality time in prayer with your Bible.
26:34 Have that set time, have that special place,
26:38 come aside and spend quality time with God in prayer,
26:42 and I know that God is going to bless you.
26:44 And apply the promises of the word of God in your prayer talk.
26:48 Well beloved, that's all the time we have right now.
26:51 We're going to make preparation for our next telecast
26:53 which is entitled, The Joy Of Answered Prayer.
26:57 You don't want to miss that because we're going to
26:59 talk about conditions to answered prayer.
27:01 Let's pray, beloved.
27:03 Our Father in heaven, thank You for blessing us today,
27:07 for sending Jesus, Your Son; the truth, life, and way.
27:10 Thank You for the special truths on prayer we've heard.
27:13 Thank You for blessing us with the changing power of Your word.
27:17 In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
27:19 Beloved, continue to study, continue to read the Bible.
27:24 And I want to encourage you fathers and mothers;
27:27 bring your children together for family worship
27:30 and I know God is going to bless you.
27:32 Teach them to have that set time and that set place,
27:35 and to read their Bibles and to claim the promises
27:38 in the world of God.
27:39 And you'll see a big difference in their lives.
27:43 May God richly bless you until we meet again.
