The Bible tells us in
Mark chapter 1 verse 35
00:02:54.02\00:02:57.73
that Jesus got up early in
the morning, as the Bible says,

"a great while before day. "
00:03:01.82\00:03:03.69
And He departed into a
solitary place, a secret place,
00:03:03.72\00:03:08.06
where He could be
alone with God in prayer.
00:03:08.09\00:03:12.05
And beloved, the Bible
also says in Luke chapter 6
00:03:12.08\00:03:16.07
verse 12, "And it
came to pass in those days
00:03:16.10\00:03:21.12
that He went out
into a mountain to pray,
00:03:21.15\00:03:24.19
and continued all
night in prayer to God. "
00:03:24.22\00:03:28.00
Notice now, Jesus, He
had a burden, beloved.
00:03:28.03\00:03:31.97
He had a burden to set a
perfect example for you and I.
00:03:32.00\00:03:36.58
Jesus was our substitute.
00:03:36.61\00:03:40.49
He came to demonstrate perfect
obedience to the will of God;
00:03:40.52\00:03:45.53
and He needed prayer.
00:03:45.56\00:03:47.54
And there were people who
were trying to hinder Jesus
00:03:47.57\00:03:50.66
in accomplishing His mission.
00:03:50.69\00:03:52.79
He spend all night in prayer.
00:03:52.82\00:03:54.21
Have you ever been so
heavily burdened with a problem
00:03:54.24\00:03:57.05
or an issue that you
spend all night in prayer
00:03:57.08\00:04:00.73
talking to God about it?

Well my listening friends,
I think it's important for
00:04:02.40\00:04:05.18
us to understand something.
00:04:05.21\00:04:06.45
And that is that
someone had to teach Jesus
00:04:07.05\00:04:10.55
these dynamic principles
of prayer early in His life.
00:04:10.58\00:04:14.64
Who was it?
00:04:14.67\00:04:15.99
Well, I think it's important
for you and I to look at Jesus
00:04:16.00\00:04:20.59
and remember how
Jesus had to be obedient
00:04:20.62\00:04:24.12
to the express will of God.
00:04:24.15\00:04:26.20
And He was our
example in all things.
00:04:26.23\00:04:28.64
That it was Satan's constant
objective to prevent Jesus
00:04:28.67\00:04:32.85
from being a perfect
example of righteousness.
00:04:32.88\00:04:36.56
Now remember, Jesus had
to be taught these important
00:04:36.59\00:04:42.33
principles of prayer.
00:04:42.36\00:04:43.89
Let's look in our Bibles now.
00:04:43.92\00:04:45.50
If we turn to Luke chapter 2
looking at verses 40-41 and 52.
00:04:45.53\00:04:52.68
The Bible tells us now
in verse 40, Luke chapter 2,
00:04:52.71\00:04:56.91
it says, "And the child grew. "
00:04:56.94\00:04:58.71
Remember now, Jesus was a baby.
He had two earthly parents.
00:04:58.74\00:05:03.68
That was Joseph and Mary.
00:05:03.71\00:05:05.61
And the Bible says, "And the
child grew and waxed strong in
00:05:05.62\00:05:09.47
spirit, filled with wisdom: and
the grace of God was upon Him. "
00:05:09.50\00:05:13.96
Verse 41 says, "Now His
parents went to Jerusalem
00:05:13.99\00:05:17.68
every year at the
feast of the Passover. "
00:05:17.71\00:05:20.33
So Jesus had
some earthly parents.
00:05:20.36\00:05:23.04
And just like those
of us, if you were born,
00:05:23.07\00:05:26.98
and I believe that you were,
that you have some parents.
00:05:27.01\00:05:30.44
Some of us may have a
single parent dwelling,
00:05:30.47\00:05:32.95
but never the less,
you have some parents.
00:05:32.98\00:05:34.92
And Jesus had earthly parents.
00:05:34.95\00:05:38.29
And His earthly
parents taught Him how to pray.
00:05:38.32\00:05:42.40
That's why you've heard
me say on previous telecasts

that we want parents to
learn these important concepts
00:05:45.96\00:05:49.31
so they can teach their children
how to talk to God in pray,
00:05:49.34\00:05:52.94
how they can bring their
concerns to God in prayer.
00:05:52.97\00:05:56.09
And notice now in verse 52.
00:05:56.12\00:05:58.81
Notice now how
Jesus' life was holistic.
00:05:58.84\00:06:03.40
In other words, we
need to be concerned about
00:06:03.43\00:06:07.11
the whole person.
00:06:07.14\00:06:08.90
That we're going to talk
to God about our whole life.
00:06:08.93\00:06:11.29
The Bible says in
Luke chapter 2 verse 52,
00:06:11.32\00:06:14.08
"And Jesus
increased in wisdom. "
00:06:14.11\00:06:17.56
Now wisdom means the mental.
00:06:17.57\00:06:20.39
"... and stature,"
That means the physical.
00:06:20.42\00:06:23.56
"... and in favor with
God," That's the spiritual.
00:06:23.59\00:06:27.96
"... and man," the social.
00:06:27.97\00:06:30.25
So that's important, beloved.
00:06:30.28\00:06:31.94
Jesus' growth was holistic.
00:06:31.97\00:06:35.00
And He prayed about
every aspect of His life.
00:06:35.03\00:06:38.58
And that's so important
for you and I to remember.
00:06:38.61\00:06:41.99
Bible studying,
prayer, worshipping, guiding,
00:06:42.02\00:06:45.36
stewardship, and
dress, and witnessing.
00:06:45.39\00:06:48.11
All these things, Jesus learned
to claim the precious promises
00:06:48.14\00:06:52.93
in the word of God
based on Matthew 4 verse 4.
00:06:52.96\00:06:57.03
Remember now in a previous
telecast, we talked about this.

The Bible says in Matthew
4 verse 4, "Man shall not
00:07:00.69\00:07:04.15
live by bread alone, but
by every word that proceedeth
00:07:04.18\00:07:07.68
out of the mouth of God. "

And so Jesus demonstrated
how we are to cover all aspects
00:07:09.41\00:07:15.13
of our lives based
on the word of God.
00:07:15.16\00:07:17.99
Remember how we said
in a previous telecast,

we want to incorporate the word
of God into our prayer time.
00:07:20.67\00:07:25.17
As we talk to God, we're going
to claim the promises of God.

This is so very important.

Now remember, Jesus
taught His disciples
00:07:30.89\00:07:34.80
three important points.
00:07:34.83\00:07:36.77
And I don't want
you to miss this now.
00:07:36.80\00:07:39.58
He taught them how
to pray intelligently.
00:07:39.61\00:07:42.99
He also told
them what to pray for.
00:07:43.02\00:07:46.01
And number three, He
demonstrated by His example.
00:07:46.04\00:07:50.04
That's very important, beloved.
00:07:50.07\00:07:51.59
Now let's look at this
very quickly so we can see
00:07:51.62\00:07:54.44
what Jesus did.
00:07:54.47\00:07:55.49
He taught His disciples
how to pray intelligently,
00:07:55.52\00:07:58.60
He told them what to pray for,
00:07:58.63\00:08:00.53
and then He
demonstrated by His example.
00:08:00.56\00:08:03.53
In Matthew chapter 6 the Bible
tells us, as we said earlier,
00:08:03.56\00:08:09.98
beloved, Matthew
chapter 6 verse 6, He said,
00:08:10.01\00:08:12.72
"But thou, when thou
prayest, enter into thy closet,
00:08:12.75\00:08:15.80
and when thou hast shut
thy door, pray to thy Father
00:08:15.83\00:08:19.56
which is in secret; and thy
Father which seeth in secret
00:08:19.59\00:08:23.04
shall reward thee openly. "
00:08:23.07\00:08:24.64
So Jesus had a set time to
pray and He had a special place
00:08:24.67\00:08:28.63
that He would go where He could
spend time in prayer alone.
00:08:28.66\00:08:32.65
That's the same thing
that God wants you and I to do.
00:08:32.68\00:08:35.50
He wants us to have a set time.
00:08:35.53\00:08:37.48
He also wants us to have a
particular established place
00:08:37.51\00:08:41.71
where we can go
and be alone with God.
00:08:41.74\00:08:44.90
Now I'm talking
about secret prayer.
00:08:44.93\00:08:47.96
Now family prayer,
it does have its place.
00:08:47.99\00:08:51.28
And public
prayer, it has its place.
00:08:51.31\00:08:54.01
But nothing, my
viewing participant, is to take
00:08:54.04\00:08:57.00
the place of secret prayer.
00:08:57.03\00:08:58.92
God wants you to be
alone with Him where He can
00:08:58.95\00:09:02.75
talk to you in private.
00:09:02.76\00:09:04.45
And beloved, that takes time.
That takes a special place.
00:09:04.48\00:09:07.93
And Jesus demonstrated that.
00:09:07.96\00:09:10.07
And then Jesus
talked about prayer content
00:09:10.10\00:09:12.73
in Matthew
chapter 6 verses 9-13.
00:09:12.76\00:09:18.03
Notice what Jesus
tells the disciples to pray.
00:09:18.06\00:09:20.75
He talks about content.
00:09:20.78\00:09:22.06
He says, "After this manner... "
00:09:22.09\00:09:23.73
That word is dealing
with content; what our prayers
00:09:23.76\00:09:26.37
should consist of,
what we should pray for,
00:09:26.40\00:09:28.98
how our prayers
should be structured.
00:09:29.01\00:09:30.82
"After this
manner therefore pray ye:
00:09:30.85\00:09:32.99
Our Father which art in
heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
00:09:33.02\00:09:36.93
Thy kingdom come.
00:09:36.96\00:09:38.32
Thy will be done in
earth, as it is in heaven.
00:09:38.35\00:09:41.46
Give us this
day our daily bread.
00:09:41.49\00:09:44.64
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
00:09:44.67\00:09:47.85
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
00:09:47.86\00:09:54.47
For Thine is the
kingdom, and the power,
00:09:54.50\00:09:57.21
and the glory forever. Amen. "

Beloved, it's so
important to understand the
00:10:00.07\00:10:03.19
importance of content.
00:10:03.22\00:10:04.97
Notice now, Jesus
demonstrated this,
00:10:05.00\00:10:08.03
this same prayer, He
demonstrated it, beloved,
00:10:08.06\00:10:10.89
by example.
00:10:10.92\00:10:12.42
For we find now,
over in Luke chapter 11
00:10:12.45\00:10:16.08
verse 1-4, it says, "And it came
to pass that as He was praying
00:10:16.09\00:10:23.47
in a certain place, when
He ceased one of His disciples
00:10:23.50\00:10:27.02
said unto Him, 'Lord,
teach us to pray as John also
00:10:27.03\00:10:31.02
taught his disciples to pray. '"
00:10:31.05\00:10:33.14
Notice now beloved, Jesus
had spent such quality time
00:10:33.17\00:10:40.19
in prayer that after He
finished praying, beloved,
00:10:40.22\00:10:45.46
He went to work.
00:10:45.49\00:10:46.53
His work ethic was
based on His prayer life.
00:10:46.56\00:10:52.94
And they saw the evidences
of His prayer life by what was
00:10:52.97\00:10:56.70
accomplished in His ministry.
00:10:56.73\00:10:58.66
So beloved, you and I need
to bring what we do on the job,
00:10:58.69\00:11:03.85
what we do at
school, what we do at home,
00:11:03.86\00:11:07.11
what we do as we're
travelling down the highways,
00:11:07.14\00:11:10.21
whatever you do in
life, beloved, you need to
00:11:10.22\00:11:13.15
talk to God about it.
00:11:13.16\00:11:15.23
Everything that you do in life,
God wants to talk to you about.
00:11:15.26\00:11:19.34
You need to share it with Him.
00:11:19.37\00:11:21.32
Remember how we shared
with you those text of scripture
00:11:21.35\00:11:25.23
how God says, "Seek
ye My face," in Psalm 27.
00:11:25.26\00:11:29.67
The Bible says in
Matthew chapter 9 verse 35,
00:11:29.70\00:11:35.06
"And Jesus went about
all the cities and villages
00:11:35.09\00:11:38.66
teaching in their synagogues,
and preaching the gospel
00:11:38.69\00:11:42.05
of the kingdom, and
healing every sickness and every
00:11:42.08\00:11:45.39
disease among the people.
00:11:45.42\00:11:47.20
But when He saw the multitude,
He was moved with compassion
00:11:47.23\00:11:50.85
on them because they fainted
and were scattered abroad
00:11:50.88\00:11:54.13
as sheep having no shepherd. "
00:11:54.16\00:11:56.85
Now beloved notice, Jesus
was preaching, He was healing,
00:11:56.88\00:12:02.54
and He was teaching.
00:12:02.57\00:12:04.17
And He knew that
He needed to pray.
00:12:04.20\00:12:07.89
He had a huge obligation
placed upon Him, beloved.
00:12:07.92\00:12:12.55
And that's when we read
in Luke chapter 6 verse 12
00:12:12.58\00:12:15.97
why Jesus needed
to pray all night.
00:12:16.00\00:12:19.12
The Bible says, "And it came
to pass in those days that He
00:12:19.15\00:12:22.88
went out into a mountain to
pray, and continued all night
00:12:22.91\00:12:26.49
in prayer to God. "
00:12:26.52\00:12:28.43
Now let's look at
His example more closely.
00:12:28.46\00:12:31.80
Let's look at some of the
things that He demonstrated
00:12:31.83\00:12:35.06
and you will discover that there
are seven main areas of prayer
00:12:35.09\00:12:39.96
that Jesus demonstrated
throughout His ministry.
00:12:39.99\00:12:44.66
And we want to
implement those seven main areas
00:12:44.69\00:12:48.75
into our lifestyles.
00:12:48.78\00:12:50.65
Now this is
very, very important.
00:12:50.66\00:12:52.90
So I don't want you to miss
this point that these seven main
00:12:52.93\00:12:56.29
areas, that I'm going to share
with you, Jesus demonstrated
00:12:56.30\00:13:00.27
them throughout His ministry.
00:13:00.30\00:13:02.23
And if He demonstrated it in
His ministry, surely you and I
00:13:02.26\00:13:06.71
can demonstrate it
in our life's work.
00:13:06.74\00:13:09.35
This is so important.
00:13:09.38\00:13:10.78
Now let's look at some
incidents in His ministry
00:13:10.81\00:13:13.54
that reveals
this particular point.
00:13:13.57\00:13:16.38
There are seven particular
areas that Jesus focused on.
00:13:16.41\00:13:21.47
Those seven areas are
praise, which is number one;
00:13:21.50\00:13:25.46
thanksgiving, number
two; confession, number three;
00:13:25.47\00:13:29.89
intercession, number
four; petition, number five;
00:13:29.92\00:13:33.86
silence, number six; and
commitment, number seven.
00:13:33.89\00:13:38.09
Those are seven main
areas that Jesus illustrated
00:13:38.12\00:13:42.24
throughout His ministry.
00:13:42.27\00:13:43.46
Why? Because He wanted the
disciples and the people who
00:13:43.49\00:13:48.39
listened to His teachings
to understand the importance
00:13:48.42\00:13:50.98
of structuring their lifestyles
around communion with God.
00:13:51.01\00:13:55.19
It's so important to
bathe all that we do in prayer.
00:13:55.20\00:13:59.73
And then after we have been
in our prayer closet secretly,
00:13:59.76\00:14:03.21
the Bible says that
God will reward us openly.
00:14:03.24\00:14:08.18
I don't want you
to miss that point.
00:14:08.21\00:14:09.77
Notice now this area of praise.
00:14:09.80\00:14:13.14
The Bible tells us in
Matthew chapter 21 verses 2-16
00:14:13.17\00:14:19.00
and Luke chapter 19 verses 37-40
00:14:19.03\00:14:23.53
that Jesus believed in praise.
00:14:23.56\00:14:26.45
As a matter of fact, He said
that if He was not allowed to
00:14:26.48\00:14:32.38
praise like He should, He said
the very rocks would cry out.
00:14:32.41\00:14:36.63
So Jesus believed in praise.
00:14:36.66\00:14:39.37
He believed in singing songs.
00:14:39.40\00:14:41.99
He believed in lifting
His voice in praise to God.
00:14:42.02\00:14:45.85
And my listening friends,
I want you to understand the
00:14:45.88\00:14:48.74
importance of praise.
00:14:48.75\00:14:50.75
Jesus believed in praise.
00:14:50.78\00:14:52.68
But also now, in
Matthew chapter 15 verse 36
00:14:52.71\00:14:56.50
and Luke
chapter 17 verses 11-19,
00:14:56.53\00:15:03.83
Jesus believed in thanksgiving.
00:15:03.86\00:15:07.15
You remember the
story about the ten lepers.
00:15:07.18\00:15:10.09
And remember now, as
they went they were healed.
00:15:10.12\00:15:14.13
But only one came back to
offer thanksgiving to Jesus.
00:15:14.16\00:15:18.60
But what did Jesus say?
00:15:18.63\00:15:20.01
He said, "Where are the nine?
00:15:20.04\00:15:22.18
Where are the
other nine lepers?"
00:15:22.21\00:15:24.69
Jesus believed in
offering thanksgiving.
00:15:24.72\00:15:28.41
When you read about it in
John chapter 11 verse 41, about
00:15:28.44\00:15:33.56
the raising of
Lazarus from the tomb,
00:15:33.59\00:15:37.03
Jesus said, "Father, I thank
Thee that Thou hast heard Me. "
00:15:37.06\00:15:42.51
Jesus offered
thanksgiving in His prayers.
00:15:42.54\00:15:45.74
So He believed in
offering thanksgiving.
00:15:45.77\00:15:49.05
We should do the
same thing, beloved.
00:15:49.08\00:15:51.08
We should learn to
praise God for who He is
00:15:51.11\00:15:53.98
and what He does for us.
00:15:54.01\00:15:55.64
We should thank God for all
the blessings that He provides
00:15:55.67\00:15:59.17
for us on a daily basis.
00:15:59.20\00:16:00.96
So Jesus believed in praise,
He believed in thanksgiving.
00:16:00.99\00:16:04.77
But thirdly, beloved,
He believed in confession.
00:16:04.80\00:16:08.75
In Matthew chapter 6
verse 12 and verses 14-15,
00:16:08.78\00:16:14.83
He talked about the importance
of confessing all known sin,
00:16:14.86\00:16:21.23
getting things right with God.
00:16:21.26\00:16:23.50
And many people came to
Jesus confessing their sins.
00:16:23.53\00:16:27.35
Jesus had no
need to confess sin.
00:16:27.38\00:16:29.98
Because you see, the Bible
tells us that He was sinless.
00:16:30.01\00:16:33.70
You see, He was a perfect
example in righteousness.
00:16:33.73\00:16:38.34
But so many people came to
Jesus confessing their sins.
00:16:38.37\00:16:43.14
Beloved, He
believed in confession.
00:16:43.17\00:16:45.85
Read Mark chapter
3 verses 28 and 29.
00:16:45.88\00:16:50.80
Jesus also
believed in intercession.
00:16:50.81\00:16:54.15
All throughout His ministry,
notice now, people were
00:16:54.18\00:16:58.16
coming to Him to be healed.
00:16:58.19\00:17:02.22
He allowed people that distinct
privilege of coming to Him
00:17:02.25\00:17:06.96
with their burdens
and their problems.
00:17:06.99\00:17:09.26
And the Bible tells us
now, in Luke chapter 11,
00:17:09.29\00:17:12.87
that intercession simply
teaches us to be concerned about
00:17:12.90\00:17:17.42
the burdens, about the cares,
about the sorrows and joys
00:17:17.45\00:17:21.66
of other people.
00:17:21.69\00:17:22.76
In Luke chapter 11 verses
5-13, He gives the illustration
00:17:22.79\00:17:28.03
about a man who was
visited by someone late at night
00:17:28.06\00:17:32.57
and he had need of bread.
00:17:32.60\00:17:34.19
And the man
asked him to help him.
00:17:34.20\00:17:36.86
Well beloved, we
need someone to help us.
00:17:36.89\00:17:39.52
And you need an intercessor.
00:17:39.55\00:17:41.29
And Jesus is that intercessor.
00:17:41.32\00:17:44.51
In John chapter 12 verse 2,
these are two very important
00:17:44.54\00:17:49.43
text of scripture that
talk about intercession.
00:17:49.46\00:17:52.02
People were constantly bringing
their loved ones to Jesus
00:17:52.05\00:17:55.78
for healing and restoration.
00:17:55.81\00:17:58.09
And we need an intercessor.
00:17:58.12\00:17:59.55
We need somebody who
is concerned about us.
00:17:59.58\00:18:02.75
Just like a mother and
father intercedes in behalf of
00:18:02.78\00:18:06.07
their children, so it is
that we have a loving Savior
00:18:06.08\00:18:09.68
who intercedes before
the Father in our behalf.

The Bible says, "Ask,
and it shall be given you;

seek, and ye shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened unto you.

For everyone
that asketh receiveth;

and he that seeketh findeth;

and to him that
knocketh, it shall be opened. "

He encouraged His
disciples to petition God.

We need to learn to come

But also Mark

word of God says, "And
when He had sent them away,

He departed into a
mountain to pray. "

Jesus loved being
alone with the Father.

He demonstrated
being alone with God.

And of course, we read
Luke chapter 6 verse 12

where Jesus spent all
night in prayer alone with God.

So beloved, Jesus knows
the importance of spending time

talking to God,
and God listens to Him.

But also, God
talks back to Jesus.

And just as God talked to
Jesus, and Jesus listened to Him

and followed His
counsel, so it is you and I

should take time to be alone
and to listen to God talk to us.

He will talk to us
through the word of God.

He will talk to us in nature.

God has many
ways of talking to us.

And if we listen to Him,

And Jesus
believed in commitment.

That is learning how to
trust and believe that whatever

God has called us to do,
He is going to work it out,

provide for our needs,

provide for our necessities.

In Matthew chapter 26 when Jesus
was in the garden of Gethsemane,

the Bible says He prayed
that prayer, "Oh My Father,

if it be possible,
let this cup pass from Me.

Nevertheless not as I
will, but as Thou wilt. "

So Jesus learned the
importance of commitment.

And so these seven main
areas, Jesus demonstrated

throughout His ministry.

Why? Because He wanted
to educate His disciples

in praise,
thanksgiving, confession,

Jesus knew the importance
of prayer, fellowship,

and communion with
His heavenly Father.
