Genesis chapter 1 and 2.

We need to look at
the creation story.

We need to see how
this whole thing began,

how prayer became a necessity.

If you look in your
Bible, in Genesis chapter 1,

we're going to see
the creation story.
00:03:05.44\00:03:07.48
And most of us, we know that
on the first day of creation,
00:03:07.49\00:03:11.09
there was night
and then there was day.
00:03:11.12\00:03:13.90
On the second day of creation,
God created the heavens
00:03:13.93\00:03:16.85
and the sky, the firmament.
00:03:16.88\00:03:18.78
Then on the third day,
God created the land which is
00:03:18.81\00:03:21.98
what we call the earth,
the seas with the vegetation
00:03:22.01\00:03:24.98
and the fruit.
00:03:25.01\00:03:26.01
And then on the fourth
day, God created the stars,
00:03:26.04\00:03:29.08
the sun, and the moon.
00:03:29.11\00:03:30.63
On the fifth day, God
created the fish of the sea,
00:03:30.64\00:03:34.75
all the water creatures.
00:03:34.78\00:03:36.52
And then He created the
fowls of the air, all the birds.

And then on the sixth
day of creation, God created
00:03:39.57\00:03:44.06
all the animals.

But He also created His
masterpiece of creation;
00:03:45.19\00:03:49.12
He created man.
00:03:49.15\00:03:50.55
But then on the seventh
day of the creation week,

the Bible says God rested.
00:03:54.67\00:03:57.18
He instituted a
special day of worship.
00:03:57.21\00:04:00.48
And it's called the Sabbath.
00:04:00.51\00:04:02.40
Notice now, God created man
on the sixth day of creation.
00:04:02.41\00:04:08.19
And the Bible tells us now,
according to Genesis 1 verse 31,
00:04:08.22\00:04:14.68
it says, "And God saw
every thing that He had made,
00:04:14.69\00:04:17.83
and behold, it was very good. "
00:04:17.86\00:04:20.38
The Bible also reveals that God
created, as I said previously,
00:04:20.41\00:04:26.36
that God created Adam and Eve.
00:04:26.39\00:04:29.32
The Bible says in
Genesis chapter 1 verse 27,
00:04:29.35\00:04:33.41
"So God created man in His
own image, in the image of God
00:04:33.44\00:04:37.92
created He him; male and
female created He them. "
00:04:37.95\00:04:43.39
Remember now, Adam and
Eve were perfect when God
00:04:43.42\00:04:47.42
finished creating them.
00:04:47.45\00:04:49.06
They had a nature that
was in harmony with God
00:04:49.09\00:04:52.66
and with the will of God.
00:04:52.69\00:04:54.10
Their minds could
comprehend divine things.
00:04:54.13\00:04:56.80
Their appetite
and their passion were
00:04:56.83\00:04:58.77
under the control of reason.
00:04:58.80\00:05:00.35
They had perfect health.
They were full of beauty.
00:05:00.41\00:05:05.04
They were happy in obeying God.
00:05:05.07\00:05:07.50
They had the perfect diet
of fruits, nuts, and grains.
00:05:07.53\00:05:12.69
They held open communion
with God and holy angels.
00:05:12.72\00:05:17.63
They had learned how to worship
God in spirit and in truth.
00:05:17.66\00:05:22.86
But only one thing God
did, He put one prohibition
00:05:22.89\00:05:27.07
on the perfect man
and the perfect woman.
00:05:27.10\00:05:29.96
He gave them a test of loyalty.
00:05:29.99\00:05:32.26
They were forbidden to touch
one tree in the Garden of Eden.
00:05:32.27\00:05:36.22
And that's the tree of
knowledge of good and evil.

And the Bible tells us
now, that something happened
00:05:39.76\00:05:42.75
in the Garden of Eden that
changed everything, beloved,
00:05:42.78\00:05:46.23
that will help you
and I understand the
00:05:46.26\00:05:48.61
reason for prayer.
00:05:48.64\00:05:49.98
The Bible says in Genesis
chapter 3, the word of God
00:05:50.01\00:05:54.15
revealed the reason for prayer.
00:05:54.18\00:05:56.24
It says now, that Adam and Eve
had everything that they needed
00:05:56.27\00:06:01.24
for a happy existence.
00:06:01.27\00:06:03.12
God had provided for
everything that they needed.
00:06:03.15\00:06:05.82
They didn't need
anything, beloved.
00:06:05.85\00:06:07.52
But now, as I said, they
only had one prohibition;
00:06:07.55\00:06:10.58
don't touch the tree of
knowledge of good and evil.
00:06:10.61\00:06:14.38
But as you know, the Bible
shows that one day Eve strayed
00:06:14.41\00:06:18.01
from the side of Adam.
00:06:18.04\00:06:19.82
And she found herself
standing next to this tree.
00:06:19.85\00:06:23.11
And the enemy, Lucifer,
Satan, he used a serpent
00:06:23.14\00:06:28.54
as a medium of communication.
00:06:28.55\00:06:30.73
And he began to speak to
Eve through this serpent.
00:06:30.76\00:06:36.99
And the Bible tells us now, that
he insinuated doubt in her mind
00:06:37.02\00:06:42.83
about the express will of God.
00:06:42.84\00:06:45.12
Notice now what the Bible says.
00:06:45.15\00:06:47.24
In Genesis chapter 3,
the Bible says in verse 1,
00:06:47.27\00:06:54.41
"Now the serpent was more subtle
than any beast of the field
00:06:54.44\00:06:58.00
which the Lord God had made.
00:06:58.01\00:06:59.72
And he said unto the
woman, 'Yea, hath God said,
00:06:59.75\00:07:02.05
'Ye shall not eat of
every tree of the garden?'"
00:07:02.08\00:07:04.30
Well now, it was already
made clear to Adam and Eve
00:07:04.33\00:07:08.08
not to touch it.
00:07:08.11\00:07:09.24
And God had already told
them that the day that they
00:07:09.27\00:07:12.18
touch it, that
they would begin to die.
00:07:12.21\00:07:15.45
And I believe, beloved, that
it's so important for you and I
00:07:15.48\00:07:19.03
to understand this.
00:07:19.06\00:07:20.38
Now once again, beloved,
once he got her attention,
00:07:20.41\00:07:23.91
the enemy Lucifer, he
then raised doubt in her mind
00:07:23.94\00:07:28.11
about the express will of God.
00:07:28.14\00:07:29.73
And the Bible tells us now,
in Psalm chapter 40 verse 8,
00:07:29.76\00:07:35.54
the will of God.
00:07:35.57\00:07:36.67
It says, "I delight to
do Thy will, oh my God:
00:07:36.70\00:07:40.06
yea, Thy law is
within my heart. "
00:07:40.07\00:07:42.45
God's will is expressed in
His law of ten commandments.
00:07:42.48\00:07:46.60
Adam and Eve
knew about God's law.
00:07:46.63\00:07:49.10
And so as we read on now, the
Bible reveals that Eve partook
00:07:49.11\00:07:55.12
of the forbidden fruit that she
was told not to touch, beloved.
00:07:55.15\00:07:58.76
And the Bible shows us as
we read in Genesis 3 verses 6-8
00:07:58.79\00:08:04.25
that Eve gave of the
forbidden fruit to Adam
00:08:04.28\00:08:07.23
and sin entered our world.
00:08:07.26\00:08:09.92
And what this particular
illustration shows right now is
00:08:09.93\00:08:12.90
that sin has marred
the image of God in man.
00:08:12.93\00:08:18.10
And the Bible tells us
that man now has brought sin
00:08:18.13\00:08:24.46
in our world.
00:08:24.47\00:08:25.50
Sin causes a
person to run from God.
00:08:25.53\00:08:28.92
Sin causes a person to
think that he can hide from God.
00:08:28.95\00:08:33.43
But one thing is for
sure, beloved, and that is that
00:08:33.46\00:08:36.31
sin separates us from God.
00:08:36.34\00:08:39.14
Let's read about that in Isaiah
chapter 59 verses 1 and 2.
00:08:39.17\00:08:45.35
Notice what the Bible says
that sin does in Isaiah 59:1-2.
00:08:45.38\00:08:50.25
It says, "Behold, the Lord's
hand is not shortened that it
00:08:50.28\00:08:52.79
cannot save; neither His
ear heavy that it cannot hear.
00:08:52.82\00:08:56.63
But your iniquities
have separated between
00:08:56.66\00:08:59.39
you and your God, and your
sins have hid His face from you
00:08:59.42\00:09:04.43
that He will not hear. "
00:09:04.46\00:09:07.30
And notice now, sin
produced an ego-centric person.
00:09:07.33\00:09:12.92
And now Adam and Eve
became self-centered.
00:09:12.95\00:09:16.46
You see, what happened, beloved,
is that when your mind is not
00:09:16.49\00:09:20.04
focused on doing what God
says, your mind focuses on what
00:09:20.07\00:09:23.72
you want to do.
00:09:23.75\00:09:24.90
It's what you
feel to be important.
00:09:24.93\00:09:27.65
And this self-centered attitude
originated with Lucifer,
00:09:27.68\00:09:32.70
a fallen angel from heaven.
00:09:32.73\00:09:35.17
And we can read about
him in Ezekiel chapter 28
00:09:35.20\00:09:39.51
verses 12 through 19.
00:09:39.54\00:09:41.67
But also Isaiah chapter
14 verses 12 through 14.
00:09:41.70\00:09:47.81
Let me just read
Isaiah chapter 14 verses 12-14
00:09:47.84\00:09:53.61
so we can understand how
Lucifer, who made a devil
00:09:53.64\00:09:58.07
out of himself, became
Satan and how he continued his
00:09:58.10\00:10:02.51
rebellion on planet earth.
00:10:02.54\00:10:04.42
Because the Bible tells us in
Isaiah chapter 14 verses 12-14
00:10:04.45\00:10:09.93
that he wanted to be
like God in power but not
00:10:09.96\00:10:13.92
like God in character.
00:10:13.95\00:10:15.56
He said in verse 14, "I
will ascend above the heights
00:10:15.59\00:10:19.76
of the clouds; I will
be like the most High. "
00:10:19.79\00:10:22.72
So Lucifer wanted
to be like God in power
00:10:22.75\00:10:26.35
but not like God in character.
00:10:26.38\00:10:27.96
And so he had an
attitude of rebellion.
00:10:27.99\00:10:30.47
He did not want to comply
with what God wanted him to do.
00:10:30.50\00:10:34.53
And so, beloved, he
started a rebellion in heaven.
00:10:34.56\00:10:37.96
And the Bible tells us
in Revelation chapter 12
00:10:37.99\00:10:40.92
verses 7-9 and verse 12 that
Lucifer and one-third of the
00:10:40.95\00:10:46.30
angelic host were
kicked out of heaven.
00:10:46.31\00:10:48.47
And he continued his
attitude of rebellion on earth.
00:10:48.48\00:10:52.86
And so he sought to cause
his rebellion to be carried on
00:10:52.89\00:10:58.27
through Adam and Eve.
00:10:58.30\00:10:59.43
And so he caused the first
woman, she sinned against God.
00:10:59.46\00:11:04.20
And then she took of
the forbidden fruit and
00:11:04.23\00:11:06.31
she gave it to Adam.
00:11:06.34\00:11:07.74
And now Adam and
Eve are hiding from God.
00:11:07.77\00:11:11.90
But you know what, beloved?
00:11:11.93\00:11:13.07
This act of disloyalty,
this act of distrust,
00:11:13.10\00:11:15.96
this belief of the express
words of God brought fear,
00:11:15.99\00:11:20.67
pain, misery,
grief, disappointment,
00:11:20.70\00:11:23.24
and eventually death
to the first human family.
00:11:23.27\00:11:27.11
Understand
something, my listening friends.
00:11:27.14\00:11:29.07
And that is that sin affects
you and I mentally, physically,
00:11:29.10\00:11:33.34
socially, and spiritually.
00:11:33.35\00:11:35.77
They could not
commune with God openly.
00:11:35.80\00:11:38.95
They were cut off.
00:11:38.98\00:11:40.06
But you know what, beloved?
00:11:40.09\00:11:41.09
I'm so happy that as
soon as there was sin,
00:11:41.12\00:11:44.23
there was a Savior.
00:11:44.26\00:11:45.56
Because you see, the
Bible reveals something special
00:11:45.57\00:11:48.98
that God does.
00:11:48.99\00:11:50.30
And I want you to get this point
because it's the most important
00:11:50.33\00:11:53.36
point in this particular segment
of this program about the
00:11:53.39\00:11:56.58
reason for prayer.
00:11:56.61\00:11:57.81
And the Bible says in
Genesis chapter 3 verse 8,
00:11:57.84\00:12:01.40
"And they heard the voice of the
Lord God walking in the garden
00:12:01.43\00:12:07.40
in the cool of the day.
00:12:07.43\00:12:08.56
And Adam and his wife hid
themselves from the presence
00:12:08.57\00:12:12.23
of the Lord God amongst
the trees of the garden.
00:12:12.26\00:12:15.65
And the Lord God called
unto Adam and said unto him,
00:12:15.68\00:12:20.44
'Where art thou?'
00:12:20.47\00:12:22.06
And he said, 'I heard thy voice
in the garden and I was afraid
00:12:22.09\00:12:26.70
because I was
naked; and I hid myself. '"
00:12:26.73\00:12:29.94

see this most important point?

Here we have God who
created the first man and woman.

And even though they
failed, God came looking

for the man and the woman.

Why? Because you see,
God had a habit of communing
00:12:43.56\00:12:48.04
with His creatures.
00:12:48.07\00:12:49.30
And God wants to
talk to you and I.

God comes looking for
us that we might pray,
00:12:52.55\00:12:55.91
that we might talk to Him, that
we might bring our concerns,
00:12:55.92\00:12:59.44
our problems to Him.
00:12:59.45\00:13:01.45
You see, God came
looking for Adam and Eve.
00:13:01.48\00:13:04.35
And I want you to
understand something,
00:13:04.38\00:13:06.18
my viewing participants.

God comes looking for you too.

Not so much to
find out where you are,

but where you
are in your thinking.

Is God on your thoughts?

Beloved, I want you
to understand something.

God wants to
talk to you in prayer.
00:13:18.49\00:13:21.10
And that is something that
you and I want to make sure

that we understand.

The Bible tells us now, that
Adam and Eve listened to God
00:13:25.40\00:13:30.61
because God came talking.
00:13:30.64\00:13:31.98
And the Bible reveals that
God unfolded to Adam and Eve
00:13:32.01\00:13:35.83
His plan of salvation to
restore in them His image,
00:13:35.84\00:13:41.05
His likeness, and His character.
00:13:41.08\00:13:43.72
That's so important.

Because He began to share with
them about His plan of salvation

to save them, to bring
restoration and healing,

to give them, instead of having
an ego-centric personality,

but a Christ-centered lifestyle.

I want you to get
that point, beloved,

because this is so important.

Because you see, as
soon as there was sin,
00:14:04.86\00:14:08.50
there was a Savior.
00:14:08.53\00:14:10.02
God had provided a way of
escape that man might not be
00:14:10.03\00:14:15.52
lost in sin, but be redeemed.
00:14:15.53\00:14:17.99
And that redemption
can be found in none other
00:14:18.02\00:14:20.93
than our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Bible shares with us,
beloved, that Adam and Eve
00:14:23.79\00:14:26.15
were instructed in how Jesus
would come and give His life
00:14:26.18\00:14:30.24
that man might be saved and
not suffer an eternal death.

Read about it, beloved,
in Romans chapter 6 verse 23.
00:14:34.25\00:14:38.54
The Bible says, "For
the wages of sin is death;
00:14:38.57\00:14:42.58
but the gift of God
is eternal life through
00:14:42.61\00:14:45.43
Jesus Christ our Lord. "
00:14:45.46\00:14:47.18
The Bible also says in
John chapter 3 verse 16,
00:14:47.21\00:14:51.94
"For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son;
00:14:51.97\00:14:56.64
that whosoever believeth
in His should not perish,
00:14:56.65\00:14:59.50
but have everlasting life.
00:14:59.53\00:15:01.69
For God sent not His Son into
the world to condemn the world,
00:15:01.72\00:15:05.24
but that the world
through Him might be saved. "

You know, beloved,
I'm so happy that God came
00:15:07.96\00:15:10.43
looking for Adam and Eve.
00:15:10.44\00:15:11.92
But it's so important
for you and I to realize that
00:15:11.95\00:15:14.52
God still comes
looking for you and I.
00:15:14.55\00:15:17.15
Even though sin had hindered
and affected the open communion
00:15:17.18\00:15:21.54
between God and His creatures,
the scriptures reveal that
00:15:21.55\00:15:25.98
God restores
communion and fellowship.
00:15:26.01\00:15:28.62
And that's the
reason for prayer.
00:15:28.65\00:15:30.52
Prayer helps us to reopen
the channel of communication
00:15:30.55\00:15:34.57
between you and your God.

The Bible says in 1
Timothy chapter 2, I want you

to look at this, beloved.
00:15:41.44\00:15:42.59
1 Timothy chapter
2, looking at verse 5.
00:15:42.62\00:15:48.80
The Bible says, "For there
is one God, and one mediator
00:15:48.83\00:15:52.93
between God and men;
the man Christ Jesus. "
00:15:52.96\00:15:57.13
Amen.
00:15:57.16\00:15:58.30
And so God has provided a
way whereby we can come to Him.

And we come to God
through Jesus Christ.

Remember in our last telecast,
we read a text of scripture

in John chapter 14 verse 6.

In that text of
scripture, Jesus Himself said,

"I am the way, the
truth, and the life.

No man cometh unto
the Father but by Me. "

And so, beloved, as we
said earlier, as soon as there
00:16:22.30\00:16:26.47
was sin, there was a Savior.
00:16:26.50\00:16:28.77
Jesus said, "I will
be man's substitute.
00:16:28.80\00:16:32.13
I will demonstrate what
man must do to be restored
00:16:32.16\00:16:36.17
into fellowship with God. "
00:16:36.20\00:16:38.24
As I said, one of the most
important things that we're
00:16:38.27\00:16:40.56
going to study in
this special prayer series

is the prayer
life of Jesus Christ.

We're going to
follow His example.
00:16:46.35\00:16:49.27
Because you see, we want
a Christ-centered lifestyle.

Remember now, prayer establishes
communication between the
00:16:53.34\00:16:58.02
creature and his Creator.
00:16:58.05\00:16:59.81
And the reason why
prayer is necessary is because
00:16:59.84\00:17:03.04
God said it is necessary.

And God wants you and I
to spend time talking to Him.

Remember now, Jesus
emphasizes the importance
00:17:10.33\00:17:14.25
that if we love Him...

John chapter 14
verse 15, Jesus said,
00:17:15.86\00:17:20.01
"If you love Me,
keep My commandments. "
00:17:20.04\00:17:23.47
Adam and Eve broke
the commandments of God.
00:17:23.50\00:17:26.97
I want to make
that point very clear.
00:17:27.00\00:17:29.63
Jesus said, "If you love
Me, keep My commandments. "
00:17:29.66\00:17:33.11
You see, sin
separates us from God.
00:17:33.93\00:17:37.87
Adam and Eve had broken
the commandments of God.

Jesus paid the price.
00:17:41.05\00:17:43.79
And He says, "If you love
Me, keep My commandments. "

So God says, "Let's reason. "

And you know, the only way
you can reason with somebody

talk to them and they listen.

a day you and I should pray,

17, notice what the Bible says.

"As for me, I will call upon
God and the Lord shall save me.

Evening and morning and at
noon will I pray and cry aloud;

and He shall hear my voice. "

Notice now, God says He will
hear your voice in the evening,

in the morning, and at noon.

important for you and I to grasp

That the reason for prayer is
because God says it's important.

"Ask, and it shall be given you;

See that word again? "Seek. "

Jesus said, " Ask,
and it shall be given you;

seek, and ye shall find; knock
and it shall be opened unto you.

that asketh receiveth;

and he that seeketh findeth;

Jesus Himself says seek.

God said seek His face.

And now we hear
Jesus saying seek.

And to ask, that means
you've got to talk to God.

He want to hear

Just as we've discovered

Hiding, trying to hide from God.

Psalm 139 verses 1-11,

you cannot hide from God.

God is with you when you're

shopping in the super market.

So there's nowhere you and I can
go that God will not see you.

and I will give you rest.

Take My yoke upon you and
learn of Me; for I am meek

shall find rest unto your souls.

For My yoke is easy
and My burden is light. "

So Jesus says, "Talk
to Me, bring it to Me. "

He says to us as we read

Jesus said, "But seek ye first

and all these things
shall be added unto you. "

He knows what you have need of.

He knows you need food
and clothing and shelter

and protection
and transportation

and finance and good health.

He knows about all those things.

But He says, you come to Him
early in the morning and He's

going to reveal unto you how
those things can be provided.

But notice what Jesus Himself
did in Mark chapter 1 verse 35.

We see an example of
what Jesus did in communing

with His heavenly Father.

Because you see,
Jesus had an awesome

responsibility to cover.

In Mark chapter 1
verse 35, the Bible says,

"And in the morning, rising
up a great while before day,

He went out and
departed into a solitary place

and there prayed. "
00:25:47.58\00:25:48.75
So Jesus got up early in
the morning before sunrise.

That's right, beloved.

He got out of that bed
and He went to a special place

where He could be
alone with God in prayer.

And that's the
example for you and I.

You see, we have
a reason for prayer.

Now let's look at Jesus again
to see what else did Jesus do.

sure that we follow His example.

We want to follow His
counsel and His instruction.

In Matthew chapter 6 verse
6, notice what the Bible says.

"But thou, when thou
prayest, enter into thy closet,

and when thou hast shut
thy door, pray to thy Father

which is in secret; and thy
Father which seeth in secret

shall reward thee openly. "

Notice now, beloved, He
had a set time and got up early

in the morning and He
departed to a solitary place

and Jesus prayed and talked to
His heavenly Father in secret.

we've learned quite a bit.

the reason for prayer

and how sin separates
us in communion with God.
