The Bible is like a
sword, but the Bible

has transforming power.

It has what we need.

It's like a guide book,
it's like a map that helps us

to see as we travel
down life's highway.

And so we want to
follow the Biblical teaching

Notice also what the Bible says
in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17.

text of scripture.

I trust and pray now

So we need to take the word
of God, we're going to study it,

and we're going to apply these

prayer to our lifestyles.

You see, prayer is
fellowship with God.

Prayer is communion with God.

Prayer is talking to God as you
would to a very close friend.

Prayer is dialog between
two people who love each other.

And so we want to
cultivate this, beloved, because

I believe that so many people
have forgotten the skill and

the art and the importance
of learning how to pray.

This is very important and
I just can't stress just how

serious it is that
we learn how to pray.

Now as I said earlier, there's
power in the word of God and
00:10:01.28\00:10:05.92
we're going to learn how to talk
to God using the scriptures.

And this is so important.

Because, you see, the
Bible says in Romans 12:1-2,
00:10:12.44\00:10:17.30
"I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God
00:10:17.33\00:10:20.68
that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
00:10:20.71\00:10:24.18
acceptable unto God, which
is your reasonable service.
00:10:24.21\00:10:27.26
And be not conformed to
this world, but be transformed
00:10:27.27\00:10:30.64
by the renewing of your mind. "

Notice what that text says.

It says that the Bible, the word
of God, can renew our minds.

It can help us to
establish a mind set for prayer.

We can learn how
to appreciate prayer.

And I believe that as we
begin this special series that

you're going to be blessed, your
home is going to be blessed,

the people that you associate
from day to day are going to

see a change in your life.

Because as we just read
in this text of scripture,

especially in Romans
12:2, that you're going to be

transformed by the
renewing of your mind.

And other people are
going to know that you

have been with Jesus.

Now this is very
important because, you see,

Jesus said something very
important about our using and
00:11:16.46\00:11:19.99
studying the word of God.
00:11:20.02\00:11:21.57
Jesus Himself said in Matthew
4:4 a very important point.
00:11:21.60\00:11:27.81
And I don't want us to
miss it because, you see,
00:11:27.84\00:11:29.93
we are getting ready for prayer.
00:11:29.96\00:11:32.47
And I want to make sure
that you have all of the
00:11:32.48\00:11:34.41
basic essentials intact.

The Bible says in Matthew 4:4,
00:11:36.75\00:11:40.55
Now notice, the Bible
is like a loaf of bread.
00:11:50.49\00:11:54.27
And every slice is a
promise from God to nourish us
00:11:54.30\00:11:58.77
physically, spiritually,
mentally, and socially.

So we need to study the
word of God and we want to
00:12:03.18\00:12:06.77
apply it to all four
aspects of our lives.

Notice what the Bible
says in 2 Timothy 2:15.

The Bible says, "Study to
show thyself approved unto God,

a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed,

rightly dividing
the word of truth. "

So we're going to be following
the Bible teaching on prayer.

And the Bible says we
should study to show ourselves

approved unto God.

Because prayer is
always given to God.

Beloved, I know that
you're going to be blessed

Also now, the Bible

counsel that is pertinent to our

It says in 2 Timothy
3 beginning in verse 15,

"And that from a child thou
hast known the Holy Scriptures,

thee wise unto salvation

through faith
which is in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is
given by inspiration of God

and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for corrections,

for instruction
in righteousness,

that the man of God may be
perfect, thoroughly furnished

unto all good works. "

So beloved, we want to make
sure that we follow the Biblical

counsel and teaching on prayer.

And we're going to find out
that as we search the scriptures

and as we apply the
promises of God to our physical,

mental, social, and spiritual
being that God is going to

bless us in a marvelous way.

Now one of the things that
I don't want you to forget,

there's a special
habit that I want you to do.

I want you to learn how
to pray with your Bible.

That's right.

I want you to learn how
to pray with your Bible.

So many times now, you know
it's good to memorize scripture

and pray from memory.

But now, when you are in
secret prayer with God alone

you can have your
Bible right with you.
00:14:15.29\00:14:17.28
Because, you see, as you
talk to God and as you use the
00:14:17.31\00:14:21.70
promises in the word of God,
He wants to talk back to you.
00:14:21.71\00:14:25.06
And many times, He's going to
inspire you to turn to a certain
00:14:25.09\00:14:28.77
verse in the Bible
because God wants to talk
00:14:28.80\00:14:32.68
to you and I as well.
00:14:32.69\00:14:33.76
Because as I said, prayer
is a dialog between two people
00:14:33.79\00:14:37.85
who love each other.

You will talk to
God and He will listen.

And then God's going to talk to
you and you're going to listen.

So we need to have the
Bible close by our side.

Now did you know that there
are over 3500 Bible promises

in the Bible?

And I believe, beloved,
that each promise can relate to

whatever situation that you
and I may find ourselves in.
00:15:01.41\00:15:05.21
And we want to get into the
habit of following God's counsel
00:15:05.24\00:15:08.26
and bring all of
our concerns to Him.

Because we need to remember
now, Jesus said in Matthew 11
00:15:10.77\00:15:16.65
looking at verses 28- 30,
"Come unto Me all ye that labor
00:15:16.68\00:15:22.00
and are heavy laden
and I will give you rest.
00:15:22.03\00:15:25.33
It was Jesus who counseled
and instructed us in John 14:13.
00:15:25.36\00:15:32.85
He said, "Whatsoever
ye shall ask in My name,
00:15:32.88\00:15:35.52
that will I do, that the Father
may be glorified in the Son.
00:15:35.55\00:15:39.56
If ye shall ask anything
in My name, I will do it. "
00:15:39.59\00:15:43.38
That was John
chapter 14 verses 13 and 14.

So we want to develop the habit
of praying with our Bibles.

We want to follow the
counsel that Jesus said.

Because, you see, I believe that
it's so important for you and I

to develop an attitude of trust.

And the Bible says in Proverbs
chapter 3 verses 5 and 6,

that's Proverbs
chapter 3 verses 5 and 6,

"Trust in the Lord with
all thine heart, and lean not

unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him
and He shall direct thy paths. "

It's so important, beloved,
that we learn to trust God.

Notice now that as we begin
to apply the Bible promises

to our lives...

Remember now, there's
four aspects to our lives.

There's the
physical, there's the mental,

there's the social, and
then there's the spiritual.

So there are four
aspects to our lives.

And there are Bible
promises that can relate

to each particular area.

For instance now,
maybe you need a promise

concerning
salvation for your children.

Well, you can claim the promise
in Isaiah chapter 49 verse 25.

Notice what this special Bible
promise says in Isaiah 49:25.
00:17:04.26\00:17:10.34
The Bible says, "Even thus saith
the Lord, 'Even the captives
00:17:10.37\00:17:14.84
of the mighty shall be
taken away and the prey of the
00:17:14.87\00:17:17.82
terrible shall be delivered.
00:17:17.85\00:17:19.19
For I will contend with
him that contendeth with you
00:17:19.22\00:17:22.64
and I will save thy children. '"
00:17:22.67\00:17:25.64
Notice now, God has
a promise in the Bible

that relates to your children.

And God promises
to save our children.

But you see, we need to develop
a habit of bringing our children

to God in prayer.

We need to pray
about our children.

And I'm sure that you
are concerned about your son,

your daughter, or
perhaps your husband, your wife,
00:17:45.64\00:17:49.01
nephews and nieces, and your
grandparents, your loved ones,
00:17:49.04\00:17:52.48
close associates.
00:17:52.51\00:17:53.66
There are Bible
promises relative to them.
00:17:53.69\00:17:56.87
Perhaps you are fearful, maybe
you are afraid of something.
00:17:56.90\00:18:01.02
And, you know, we
all have certain fears.
00:18:01.05\00:18:03.24
But did you not know
that there is a Bible promise
00:18:03.27\00:18:06.12
relative to being fearful.
00:18:06.13\00:18:08.23
The Bible says in
Psalm 34 verse 4...

I simply want you to see
how we must develop a habit
00:18:12.74\00:18:16.66
of finding scripture references
that will apply to our problems.

Bringing them to God in prayer.

Psalm 34 verse
4, the Bible says,

"I sought the Lord and
He heard me and delivered me
00:18:25.94\00:18:29.94
from all my fears. "
00:18:29.97\00:18:31.86
Notice now, God says
bring that fear to Him in prayer
00:18:31.89\00:18:34.95
and He will, not
only hear your prayers,
00:18:34.96\00:18:37.87
but He will deliver you.
00:18:37.90\00:18:39.63
And I think that is so important
for you and I to remember.

Then also another
promise relative to fear is

Isaiah chapter 41 verse 13.

Now perhaps you
may need a promise

dealing with forgiveness.

Well beloved, I want you to
know there is a special promise
00:18:52.81\00:18:56.33
in the Bible
relative to forgiveness,
00:18:56.36\00:18:58.99
receiving forgiveness.
00:18:59.02\00:19:00.89
The Bible says in
Luke chapter 6 verse 37,
00:19:00.92\00:19:04.94
it was Jesus, He said, "Judge
not, and ye shall not be judged;
00:19:04.95\00:19:09.86
condemn not, and ye
shall not be condemned;
00:19:09.89\00:19:14.28
forgive, and ye
shall be forgiven. "
00:19:14.31\00:19:17.16
Notice now, the Bible gives
a promise that as you forgive
00:19:17.19\00:19:20.34
others, you will
also be forgiven yourself.

That's a beautiful promise.

That God will forgive me

So we can receive forgiveness
for whatever we've done.

to do something for you and I.

and it's found in verse 7.

Now there's something that
we want to cultivate, as we

of the family coming together

the family to come together

habit of praying together.

You see, the family will grow
holistically when this type of

The husband,
wife, and children learn

spiritual values early in life.

They're going to find out what
is important about honesty and

qualities that we want to

element in establishing that.

talking about family worship.

Because, you see, it's so

to pick up his Bible and to read

just give a brief explanation

just to thank God for what has

And then to take prayer

We need to develop a
habit of having family worship.

teach our children how to pray

to be responsible citizens

government, but also be

Now there are certain things
that a family is going to learn

concerning prayer.

You see, prayer is
answered in several ways.

that you understand that

this is very important.

says "yes," God says "no,"

an understanding of the Bible

ways of answering your prayers.
