Our message is entitled what? 00:00:15.92\00:00:17.33 Kind of a play on words there, Who Is Real Israel, 00:00:20.17\00:00:23.78 and this is a very important question. 00:00:23.81\00:00:25.81 Basically what we're going to discover, 00:00:25.84\00:00:27.75 and what many of you have already determined 00:00:27.78\00:00:29.58 through this seminar is that there are two very different 00:00:29.61\00:00:32.59 systems, two very different what everyone? 00:00:32.62\00:00:34.81 Systems for understanding Bible prophecy, 00:00:34.84\00:00:38.24 and one of those systems is oriented primarily at Israel 00:00:38.27\00:00:42.79 a national Israel, and you have hundreds of thousands 00:00:42.82\00:00:45.89 millions of people today, who are looking to the 00:00:45.92\00:00:48.33 literal middle east for the literal descendants of Abraham 00:00:48.37\00:00:51.17 for God to fulfill all of His Old Testament, old covenant 00:00:51.20\00:00:53.93 promises to them in a literal fashion. 00:00:53.96\00:00:56.59 Well, anybody can look around and see that it's likely 00:00:56.62\00:00:58.85 that, that is not going to happen, at least in the current 00:00:58.88\00:01:01.07 political climate, and so what's happened is an invention 00:01:01.10\00:01:06.12 called the rapture, an invention called the what everyone? 00:01:06.15\00:01:09.07 Rapture, has basically been manufactured by religionists 00:01:09.10\00:01:12.95 that says something like this: 00:01:12.98\00:01:14.42 The only way that God is ever going to be able 00:01:14.45\00:01:16.83 to fulfill all of His promises to literal Israel, 00:01:16.86\00:01:19.16 is if the church gets out of the way, and so what's 00:01:19.19\00:01:22.01 happened is this manufactured artificial non-biblical doctrine 00:01:22.04\00:01:26.63 called the rapture, the secret rapture has been invented 00:01:26.66\00:01:29.62 and more or less what is going to happen is [whoop] the whole 00:01:29.65\00:01:32.96 church is just going to disappear in a moment and 00:01:32.99\00:01:35.69 as we have already talked about in the Left Behind movie, 00:01:35.72\00:01:38.28 which sort of popularized this view. 00:01:38.31\00:01:39.66 Their clothes will be neatly folded, ect., ect., 00:01:39.69\00:01:42.44 and then God with the church out of the way 00:01:42.47\00:01:45.38 can fulfill His Old Testament, Old Covenant promises, 00:01:45.41\00:01:48.97 that He is duty bound to fulfill to Israel. 00:01:49.00\00:01:51.66 That's sort of the picture that hundred's of thousand's 00:01:51.69\00:01:54.80 million's of Christians have, but what I want to show you 00:01:54.83\00:01:57.35 today, is that that at it's core is fundamentally flawed. 00:01:57.39\00:02:01.69 That at it's core is fundamentally flawed, 00:02:01.72\00:02:04.57 God does have an Israel, and who that Israel is 00:02:04.60\00:02:08.48 is very clear and very plain, from a Biblical perspective. 00:02:08.51\00:02:12.43 From a what kind of perspective everyone? 00:02:12.46\00:02:14.11 A Biblical perspective, and so we're going to do a good 00:02:14.14\00:02:17.05 Old Fashioned Bible study this morning, 00:02:17.08\00:02:19.02 can you say Amen to that? 00:02:19.05\00:02:20.02 We're going to try to answer the question: 00:02:20.05\00:02:21.83 That's the question we're going to answer, 00:02:24.17\00:02:25.88 and to put it even more succinctly, and to the point. 00:02:25.91\00:02:29.75 Who and what is Israel today? 00:02:29.78\00:02:32.17 Is modern day Israel, still the Israel of God? 00:02:32.20\00:02:36.15 I know when we use the term modern day Israel, 00:02:36.50\00:02:37.87 we're talking about those people that live in the geographic 00:02:37.90\00:02:40.80 area of ancient Palestine, modern Israel, Jerusalem, ect. 00:02:40.83\00:02:45.17 Those people, the literal genealogical descendants 00:02:45.20\00:02:48.65 of Abraham, is that Israel on earth today? 00:02:48.68\00:02:52.55 What we are going to do is take a look from a Biblical 00:02:52.58\00:02:55.88 perspective, and I would like to start in what you might 00:02:55.91\00:02:58.25 consider to be somewhat of an unusual place, Genesis 1. 00:02:58.28\00:03:01.94 Just a little bit of background here, Genesis 1, 00:03:01.97\00:03:05.83 we're going to look at marvelous parallel, between the experience 00:03:05.86\00:03:10.40 of Adam, the experience of Noah, and the experience of Israel. 00:03:10.43\00:03:15.05 Follow that, the experience of Adam, the experience of Noah, 00:03:15.08\00:03:18.69 and the experience of Israel. 00:03:18.72\00:03:20.04 Beginning in Genesis 1:1, I need you to stay right with me, 00:03:20.07\00:03:23.97 Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the 00:03:24.00\00:03:29.44 earth, now notice verse two. 00:03:29.47\00:03:30.86 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was 00:03:30.89\00:03:34.66 on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering 00:03:34.69\00:03:37.86 over the face of the waters. 00:03:37.89\00:03:40.42 So when God being to create what He basically has is 00:03:40.45\00:03:43.53 a large blob, basically a vacuous void, 00:03:43.56\00:03:48.42 and it must have been covered in water, because it says, 00:03:48.45\00:03:51.40 the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 00:03:51.43\00:03:53.54 So you see in your mind's eye here, just this large sort of 00:03:53.57\00:03:57.33 fluid mass. 00:03:57.36\00:03:59.39 The spirit of God is hovering over this large fluid mass, 00:03:59.42\00:04:02.46 of course God begins to create, let there be light! 00:04:02.49\00:04:04.54 and there was light, and all of the various things. 00:04:04.57\00:04:06.81 And then it comes time to create man, 00:04:06.84\00:04:08.85 to create what everyone? 00:04:08.88\00:04:10.27 Man, and we pick that up in Genesis 1:26, 00:04:10.30\00:04:13.01 this was of course the sixth day of creation. 00:04:13.04\00:04:14.96 Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, 00:04:14.99\00:04:19.00 according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the 00:04:19.03\00:04:21.64 fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, 00:04:21.67\00:04:23.70 over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps 00:04:23.73\00:04:27.06 on the earth. So God created man in His own image; 00:04:27.09\00:04:29.65 in the image of God He created him; male and female 00:04:29.68\00:04:31.85 He created them. Then God blessed them, 00:04:31.88\00:04:33.94 and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; 00:04:33.97\00:04:37.17 fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish 00:04:37.20\00:04:39.07 of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every 00:04:39.10\00:04:40.81 living thing that moves on the earth. 00:04:40.84\00:04:42.13 So I want you to get this picture in your mind, 00:04:42.16\00:04:44.30 first there was a large fluid mass, 00:04:44.33\00:04:47.23 and then God separated, the fluid mass from waters 00:04:47.26\00:04:51.96 that were below and waters that were above 00:04:51.99\00:04:54.03 something He call the firmament. 00:04:54.06\00:04:56.14 The what everyone? 00:04:56.17\00:04:57.32 Firmament, the word just means space. 00:04:57.35\00:04:59.58 So look at that in Genesis 1, back to Genesis 1, 00:04:59.61\00:05:03.30 and notice it says in verse 5, God called the light Day, 00:05:03.33\00:05:06.59 and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the 00:05:06.62\00:05:08.91 morning were the first day. Then God said, 00:05:08.94\00:05:12.24 Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, 00:05:12.27\00:05:15.04 and let it divide the waters from the waters. 00:05:15.07\00:05:17.63 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which 00:05:17.66\00:05:23.61 were under the firmament from the waters which were 00:05:23.64\00:05:25.34 above the firmament; and it was so 00:05:25.37\00:05:26.74 So let's get the picture in our mind here, 00:05:26.77\00:05:28.22 Here's this large fluid mass, and then God creates a firmament 00:05:28.25\00:05:31.93 or a space, just imagine a hand of God reaching into that 00:05:31.96\00:05:35.79 firmament there, into that fluid mass, 00:05:35.82\00:05:38.32 and he separates like this 00:05:38.35\00:05:39.81 the waters that were below the firmament, 00:05:39.84\00:05:42.32 the waters that were what everyone? 00:05:42.35\00:05:43.35 Below, and then the waters that were above, 00:05:43.38\00:05:46.22 and that firmament is called heaven or space. 00:05:46.25\00:05:49.19 And then He goes through all the rest, he creates the land, 00:05:49.23\00:05:52.74 and then He creates the creatures on the land, 00:05:52.77\00:05:54.29 and He creates the sea, and creatures in the sea, 00:05:54.32\00:05:56.15 and finally He creates mankind, He creates what everyone? 00:05:56.18\00:05:59.76 Mankind, and He makes man named Adam, and He makes him out of 00:05:59.79\00:06:03.11 the dirt, He forms him out of the dust of the ground, 00:06:03.14\00:06:05.53 you can pick that up out of Genesis 2. 00:06:05.56\00:06:07.49 Look with me at Genesis 2:7, And the LORD God formed man 00:06:07.52\00:06:14.50 of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils 00:06:14.53\00:06:17.05 the breath of life; and man became a living being. 00:06:17.08\00:06:21.01 What was this man's name? 00:06:21.04\00:06:22.16 Adam, and the word Adam means earthy or of the earth, 00:06:22.19\00:06:26.68 because he was taken out of the earth. 00:06:26.71\00:06:29.27 Now if this makes sense everyone say Amen! 00:06:29.30\00:06:31.55 So far so good, so what God is looking for here, 00:06:31.58\00:06:34.64 is a person that is created in His image, that will 00:06:34.67\00:06:38.20 faithfully, dutifully, consistently, obey His word, 00:06:38.23\00:06:41.55 and thus be a representative to others of God and 00:06:41.58\00:06:44.56 His goodness and His character if that make sense say Amen! 00:06:44.59\00:06:47.18 Ok, but did Adam fail or succeed in this mission? 00:06:47.21\00:06:49.81 He absolutely failed, and of course Adam failed, 00:06:49.84\00:06:53.59 and they had Cain and Abel, and Seth, and of course Cain 00:06:53.62\00:06:56.74 ended out slaying who? Abel, and the whole thing 00:06:56.77\00:06:59.45 just went to hell in a hand- basket so to speak. 00:06:59.48\00:07:01.46 Down, down, down, so what happens in Genesis 6:7, 00:07:01.49\00:07:05.07 you basically find God saying that the world had become so 00:07:05.10\00:07:08.21 debauched, so degenerated, so terrible, that the thoughts 00:07:08.24\00:07:12.00 of their minds were only on evil continually. 00:07:12.03\00:07:14.13 God said I'm going to start over, 00:07:14.16\00:07:16.14 I'm going to start over, so we go to Genesis 6, 00:07:18.19\00:07:21.89 Genesis 6 beginning in verse 1, Now it came to pass, 00:07:21.92\00:07:25.57 when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, 00:07:25.60\00:07:27.38 and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw 00:07:27.41\00:07:29.79 the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; 00:07:29.82\00:07:31.77 and they took wives for themselves of all whom 00:07:31.80\00:07:33.63 they chose. And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not strive 00:07:33.66\00:07:36.73 with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; 00:07:36.76\00:07:39.17 yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years. 00:07:39.20\00:07:42.32 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great 00:07:42.35\00:07:45.57 in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his 00:07:45.60\00:07:48.57 heart was only what? Evil How often? continually. 00:07:48.60\00:07:53.13 So God looks out at this beautiful world that He had 00:07:53.16\00:07:55.63 created, and what had happened basically Adam was disloyal, 00:07:55.66\00:07:58.59 Adam had failed, and then right down the line 00:07:58.62\00:08:00.80 every descendant of Adam got worse, and worse, and worse. 00:08:00.83\00:08:04.65 Until God looked out and finally He said everyone 00:08:04.68\00:08:08.87 is thinking about evil only continually, except He had a few 00:08:08.90\00:08:13.76 faithful and God said I'm going to start over, I'm going to hit 00:08:13.79\00:08:17.54 control, alt, delete, I'm going to re-set the hard drive, 00:08:17.57\00:08:20.75 and begin again. 00:08:20.78\00:08:21.88 So He sends this thing called the flood, 00:08:21.91\00:08:25.50 called the what everyone? 00:08:25.53\00:08:27.12 Called the flood, now we're there in Genesis 7, 00:08:27.15\00:08:29.74 I want you to notice the similarities, Genesis 7, 00:08:29.77\00:08:33.04 and I'll pick it up in verse 11, Genesis 7:11, 00:08:33.07\00:08:36.75 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, 00:08:36.78\00:08:39.49 in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, 00:08:39.52\00:08:41.94 on that day the fountains of the deep were broken up, 00:08:41.97\00:08:45.08 and the windows of heaven were open. 00:08:45.11\00:08:47.21 Now it begins to rain, look at verse 12, 00:08:47.24\00:08:49.84 the rain was on the earth for how many days and nights? 00:08:49.87\00:08:52.41 Now get this picture in your mind, 00:08:52.44\00:08:53.41 it's actually quite a fascinating one. 00:08:53.44\00:08:55.42 It says here when the rains came, they not only came from 00:08:55.45\00:08:59.66 above, it says the fountains of the deep were opened 00:08:59.69\00:09:03.42 or loosed. 00:09:03.45\00:09:04.54 Now let's get the picture in our mind here, when God originally 00:09:04.57\00:09:07.31 created planet earth, he had this fluid mass, 00:09:07.34\00:09:10.41 He had a what everyone? 00:09:10.44\00:09:11.57 And then He reached His hands in, and He separated the waters 00:09:11.60\00:09:14.51 that were above from the waters that were underneath, 00:09:14.54\00:09:16.45 does that make sense everyone? 00:09:16.48\00:09:17.55 So there's water up here and there's water down here 00:09:17.58\00:09:19.59 if that makes sense say Amen! 00:09:19.62\00:09:20.84 But look at what's happening in the flood, 00:09:20.87\00:09:22.93 in the flood it says that the windows of heaven were opened 00:09:22.96\00:09:25.36 so now the waters are coming down, and it says the fountains 00:09:25.39\00:09:28.17 of the deep were opened and so now the waters coming up 00:09:28.20\00:09:30.92 and the whole earth, once again is covered by what? 00:09:30.95\00:09:34.20 Do you see the similarity, yes or no? 00:09:34.23\00:09:35.95 So God is basically undoing creation, in creation He began 00:09:35.98\00:09:39.96 by inserting His hands so to speak, and He brought a 00:09:39.99\00:09:42.44 separation, in the flood he brings those same waters 00:09:42.47\00:09:44.75 right back together, from above and from beneath, 00:09:44.78\00:09:47.33 if that makes sense say "Amen!" 00:09:47.36\00:09:48.61 Now you're still there in Genesis 7:19, 00:09:48.64\00:09:54.64 And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, 00:09:54.67\00:09:57.26 and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered. 00:09:57.29\00:10:01.81 So the earth was covered in what? 00:10:01.84\00:10:04.52 Water, so it was a giant fluid mass, just exactly what you had 00:10:04.55\00:10:10.39 in Genesis, a giant fluid mass, except in Genesis He separated 00:10:10.42\00:10:15.38 the waters, Genesis 1 and 2, He separated the waters, 00:10:15.41\00:10:18.54 in Genesis 6 and 7, He brings the waters back together, 00:10:18.57\00:10:21.33 are we all together yes or no? 00:10:21.36\00:10:22.61 Fascinating look at verse 20, The waters prevailed fifteen 00:10:22.64\00:10:25.86 cubits upward, and the mountains were covered. 00:10:25.89\00:10:27.78 So the whole earth was a giant fluid mass, 00:10:27.81\00:10:31.47 Now remember, go back, just so we can see the similarity 00:10:31.50\00:10:33.96 here, look at Genesis 1, keep your finger right there, 00:10:33.99\00:10:36.52 look at Genesis 1 and notice with me verse 2, Genesis 1:2, 00:10:36.55\00:10:40.48 The earth was without form, and void; 00:10:40.51\00:10:43.25 and darkness was on the face of the deep. 00:10:43.28\00:10:46.45 And what was hovering over the face of the waters? 00:10:46.48\00:10:49.35 The Spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters 00:10:49.38\00:10:52.31 in creation. 00:10:52.34\00:10:53.74 Now look at Genesis 8:1, Then God remembered Noah, 00:10:53.77\00:10:59.12 and every living thing, and all the animals that were 00:10:59.15\00:11:01.15 with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over 00:11:01.18\00:11:06.16 the earth, and the waters subsided or disappeared. 00:11:06.19\00:11:10.55 That word wind is the word breath, it's the same word that 00:11:10.58\00:11:13.81 is frequently translated spirit, and so it is very fascinating 00:11:13.84\00:11:16.52 here, and in Genesis 1 and 2 you have this fluid mass, 00:11:16.55\00:11:19.71 the Spirit of God hovering over it, and the waters 00:11:19.74\00:11:22.14 are separated. 00:11:22.17\00:11:23.14 In Genesis chapters 6 and 7, the waters come back together, 00:11:23.15\00:11:26.32 God puts His Spirit over them and they begin to subside, 00:11:26.35\00:11:29.91 so what God is doing here, is He is re-starting creation, 00:11:29.94\00:11:33.81 He's re-starting what everyone? 00:11:33.84\00:11:35.60 Absolutely fascinating! 00:11:35.63\00:11:37.24 So in the beginning God's intention was that Adam 00:11:37.27\00:11:41.07 would live a faithful life, that Adam would live an 00:11:41.10\00:11:44.10 obedient life, that Adam would live a righteous life, 00:11:44.13\00:11:46.48 and thus be a legitimate representative of God's 00:11:46.51\00:11:50.26 character, if that make sense say "Amen!" 00:11:50.29\00:11:52.16 But Adam failed, isn't that true Adam failed. 00:11:52.19\00:11:55.48 So God is going to re-start, He's going to re-set the 00:11:55.51\00:11:58.98 hard drive, and He's got a new man, and that new man's 00:11:59.01\00:12:02.50 name is Noah, that's exactly right, so you are there 00:12:02.53\00:12:05.65 in Genesis 9, and we will pick it up in verse 18, 00:12:05.68\00:12:11.64 Genesis 9:18, Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark 00:12:11.67\00:12:16.20 were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 00:12:16.23\00:12:17.54 And Ham was the father of Canaan. 00:12:17.57\00:12:19.17 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the 00:12:19.20\00:12:22.71 whole earth was populated. Now look at verse 20. 00:12:22.74\00:12:26.51 It's absolutely amazing, And Noah began to be a farmer, 00:12:26.54\00:12:31.81 and he planted a vineyard. 00:12:31.84\00:12:33.49 Noah worked the soil. 00:12:33.52\00:12:36.43 Question, what did Adam do in the garden? 00:12:36.46\00:12:39.78 That's exactly right, his job was to tend the garden 00:12:39.81\00:12:44.22 to take care of the garden, to have dominion over the garden, 00:12:44.25\00:12:46.93 and it say too, here's Noah, he's a tender or keeper 00:12:46.96\00:12:51.05 of the soil, fascinating, now look at verse 21. 00:12:51.08\00:12:53.58 Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became 00:12:53.61\00:12:58.62 uncovered in his tent. 00:12:58.65\00:12:59.80 So it's actually quite fascinating here, God began 00:12:59.83\00:13:02.76 in the beginning there with a man in a garden who fell 00:13:02.79\00:13:06.78 because of fruit! 00:13:06.81\00:13:07.81 And He re-starts the creation process, and here we have 00:13:07.84\00:13:11.63 God has this new man Noah, and he begins..., 00:13:11.66\00:13:14.81 Noah's going to be His guy, Noah's going to be His 00:13:14.84\00:13:16.79 representative, but right out of the gates, 00:13:16.82\00:13:18.87 he plants a vineyard, 00:13:18.90\00:13:19.87 he harvests of those vineyard, he becomes what? 00:13:19.88\00:13:22.04 Drunk, and let's the plan down. 00:13:22.39\00:13:24.67 Fascinating! Absolutely fascinating! 00:13:24.70\00:13:28.51 Adam lost this whole thing on the issue of appetite, 00:13:28.55\00:13:31.63 Noah here fails on the issue of appetite, and so God begins 00:13:31.66\00:13:35.99 with Adam, Adam is My guy, Adam fails. 00:13:36.02\00:13:39.02 He moves to Noah, re-sets the whole creation process, 00:13:39.05\00:13:41.54 Noah is My guy, Noah fails, if this makes sense say "Amen. " 00:13:41.57\00:13:44.88 Now the next big player to come on the scene is Israel, 00:13:44.91\00:13:48.41 go to Genesis 2, pardon me Genesis 32, God called a man 00:13:48.44\00:13:54.24 and his name was Abraham, what was his name everyone? 00:13:54.27\00:13:57.24 Abraham, Abraham had a son that was the promised son, 00:13:57.27\00:14:00.39 his name was "Esoc" or Isaac which means laughter. 00:14:00.42\00:14:03.28 So God called Abraham out of Babylon, where did He call him 00:14:03.31\00:14:08.17 from everyone? 00:14:08.20\00:14:09.17 Babylon, let's see if we can find that here, 00:14:09.18\00:14:11.52 Abraham was called out of Babylon, in the Bible 00:14:11.55\00:14:14.01 it's called (Ur of Chaldees.) 00:14:14.04\00:14:16.01 God is looking for a representative on earth 00:14:16.04\00:14:18.65 who will truly live righteously, who will truly 00:14:18.68\00:14:22.18 live faithfully, who will be a true representative of God 00:14:22.21\00:14:26.08 on earth, He tried it with Adam, Adam failed, 00:14:26.11\00:14:28.48 He tried it with Noah, Noah failed, and so He calls 00:14:28.51\00:14:31.10 a man named Abraham, and Abraham gives birth to Isaac, 00:14:31.13\00:14:34.13 and Isaac gives birth to who? 00:14:34.16\00:14:36.01 Jacob, but Jacob was a deceiver, the word Jacob means 00:14:36.04\00:14:39.93 deceiver, it means supplanter, one who grabs at the heel 00:14:39.96\00:14:43.08 and you know the story perhaps of Jacob, Jacob ran off 00:14:43.11\00:14:46.99 you remember he went over there to Laban, and he stayed 00:14:47.02\00:14:49.38 a time with Laban and when he returned back it was 00:14:49.41\00:14:52.75 sort of this very difficult conflict, with his brother, 00:14:52.78\00:14:56.17 what was his brother's name? 00:14:56.20\00:14:57.48 Esau, so we pick it up in Genesis 32, 00:14:57.51\00:15:01.01 Genesis 32 and it says there beginning in verse 1, 00:15:01.04\00:15:06.06 So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 00:15:06.09\00:15:08.35 When Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's camp. 00:15:08.38\00:15:11.40 And he called the name of that place Mahanaim. 00:15:11.43\00:15:15.86 Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother 00:15:15.89\00:15:19.47 in the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 00:15:19.50\00:15:21.10 And he commanded them, saying, Speak thus to my lord Esau, 00:15:21.13\00:15:24.43 'Thus your servant Jacob says: I have dwelt with Laban 00:15:24.46\00:15:27.13 and stayed there until now. 00:15:27.16\00:15:28.13 I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, and male and female servants; 00:15:28.14\00:15:31.60 and I have sent to tell my lord, 00:15:31.63\00:15:33.47 that I may find favor in your sight. " 00:15:33.50\00:15:35.10 Jacob frankly is scared to death, he had stolen the 00:15:35.13\00:15:38.05 birthright, illegitimately, not the birthright so much 00:15:38.08\00:15:41.22 he had taken the birthright in an illegitimate manner 00:15:41.25\00:15:43.49 definitely, but he had taken blessing of his father 00:15:43.52\00:15:45.77 in an illegitimate manner, he had fled from the place 00:15:45.80\00:15:48.00 of Esau, because Esau was going to kill him, 00:15:48.03\00:15:50.08 and now he's coming back after 20 years, 00:15:50.11\00:15:52.36 how many years everyone? 00:15:52.39\00:15:53.66 Twenty years, and so he sends a messenger out, 00:15:53.69\00:15:55.70 but basically says go out and cool Esau down, cool him down. 00:15:55.73\00:15:59.89 Let him know that we will give him offerings, 00:15:59.92\00:16:01.89 that we will give him whatever he needs, 00:16:01.92\00:16:03.16 just get that guy cooled down. 00:16:03.19\00:16:04.87 So the message is sent out, and Esau, and the camp of Esau, 00:16:04.90\00:16:08.25 and the camp of Jacob are approaching, their approaching, 00:16:08.28\00:16:10.23 and Jacob frankly is scared, and so he takes some time, 00:16:10.26\00:16:13.94 to go off and to seek God, by himself. 00:16:13.97\00:16:16.87 To go seek what everyone? 00:16:16.90\00:16:18.28 God, by Himself, Look at verse 22 of Genesis 3, 00:16:18.31\00:16:21.49 Genesis 32:22, 00:16:21.52\00:16:28.23 And he arose that night and took his two wives, 00:16:28.26\00:16:30.48 his two female servants, and his eleven sons, 00:16:30.51\00:16:32.44 and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. 00:16:32.47\00:16:34.17 He took them, sent them over the brook, 00:16:34.20\00:16:36.37 and sent over what he had. Verse 24: 00:16:36.40\00:16:39.71 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him 00:16:39.74\00:16:42.89 until the breaking of day. Verse 25: 00:16:42.92\00:16:46.84 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, 00:16:46.87\00:16:49.19 He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's 00:16:49.22\00:16:51.85 hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. Verse 26: 00:16:51.88\00:16:54.48 And He said, Let Me go, for the day breaks. " 00:16:54.52\00:17:00.32 But he said, I will not let You go unless You bless me!" 00:17:00.35\00:17:04.33 Verse 27: So He said to him, What is your name?" 00:17:04.36\00:17:07.50 and He said, what? Jacob. " 00:17:07.53\00:17:10.38 It's very fascinating to notice that God here says 00:17:10.41\00:17:12.44 what is your name, that is the very question that he had been 00:17:12.47\00:17:15.17 asked 20 years before, when he had walked in here before Isaac 00:17:15.20\00:17:18.59 and Isaac said what is your name, and he said my name is 00:17:18.62\00:17:20.96 Esau, He said what is your name? My name is Esau. 00:17:20.99\00:17:24.71 What is your name? My name is Esau. 00:17:24.74\00:17:26.93 Three times he was asked what his name is, 00:17:26.96\00:17:28.60 because he was trying to take the birthright from his brother 00:17:28.63\00:17:31.29 Esau in an illegitimate surreptitious way, 00:17:31.32\00:17:33.30 what's her name, Esau, what's your name, Esau, 00:17:33.33\00:17:35.58 what's your name, 20 years later God brings him over the same 00:17:35.61\00:17:38.31 ground, and He says what's your name? 00:17:38.34\00:17:40.44 God does the same for us by the way. 00:17:40.47\00:17:43.60 God wanted to see if he learned this hard lesson, 00:17:43.63\00:17:47.01 He said what is your name and notice what he says, 00:17:47.04\00:17:49.53 he said what? Jacob which means deceiver. 00:17:49.56\00:17:53.50 I am a deceiver, I am a thief, I am a liar, I am a sinner, 00:17:53.53\00:17:58.43 I need a Savior is basically what he is saying. 00:17:58.46\00:18:00.63 He said Jacob, and He said your name shall no longer be called 00:18:00.66\00:18:04.14 Jacob, but Israel, that is the first time that the word Israel 00:18:04.17\00:18:09.57 occurs in the whole Bible right there. 00:18:09.60\00:18:10.85 That is the first use of the word Israel in the entire Bible 00:18:10.88\00:18:15.55 right there Genesis 32:28, Your name shall no longer 00:18:15.58\00:18:19.06 be called Jacob, which is a sup planter or deceiver, 00:18:19.09\00:18:22.98 or dishonest person, but Israel, and the name Israel, 00:18:23.01\00:18:26.56 very fascinating here, let's see if we can put it up 00:18:26.59\00:18:28.22 on the screen: 00:18:28.25\00:18:34.09 Israel, one who reigns with God, one who has prevailed 00:18:34.12\00:18:39.69 with God. 00:18:39.72\00:18:41.48 That's what it means, you will find many names 00:18:41.51\00:18:42.91 in the Bible that have that el in it, Daniel, and Nathaniel, 00:18:42.94\00:18:47.26 and Elijah, and Elisha, that el comes from Elohim, 00:18:47.29\00:18:51.89 which is God. 00:18:51.92\00:18:52.89 So here you have the putting together in Israel, 00:18:52.92\00:18:56.25 You have this putting together of one who is overcoming, 00:18:56.28\00:18:59.73 one who is a victor, one who rules, one who prevails, 00:18:59.76\00:19:03.56 and el which is the short of Elohim, with God, or against God 00:19:03.59\00:19:07.59 or for God, and so the name Israel means 00:19:07.62\00:19:10.86 one who has prevailed with God. 00:19:10.89\00:19:13.57 Can you say "Amen," that's what the name means. 00:19:13.60\00:19:16.06 That's the first time in the whole Bible that the word Israel 00:19:16.09\00:19:19.17 is used here, He says your name is no longer Jacob, but Israel, 00:19:19.20\00:19:22.14 for you have struggled with God and with men, 00:19:22.17\00:19:25.23 and have what everyone? 00:19:25.26\00:19:26.23 prevailed, and verse 29, Then Jacob asked, saying, 00:19:26.25\00:19:28.89 Tell me Your name, I pray. " And He said, 00:19:28.92\00:19:30.78 Why is it that you ask about My name?" 00:19:30.81\00:19:32.85 It's basically interesting here because He had said 00:19:32.88\00:19:35.27 what is your name, He is bringing them back over that 00:19:35.30\00:19:37.19 ground, what is your name, what is your name, 00:19:37.22\00:19:38.63 my name is Esau, my name is Esau, and so he says to him, 00:19:38.66\00:19:40.99 what is your name, my name is Jacob, and then Jacob turns 00:19:41.02\00:19:43.58 to him and says, what's your name, 00:19:43.61\00:19:44.87 and it's as if God is saying I'm not the one on trial here. 00:19:44.90\00:19:47.05 It doesn't matter what my name is. 00:19:47.08\00:19:50.38 You know how that is, whenever you are in trouble, 00:19:50.41\00:19:52.17 and someone is asking you hard questions, you try to avoid, 00:19:52.20\00:19:56.54 by asking questions to them, and God basically says hey! 00:19:56.57\00:19:58.99 you are not the one cross examining me, I am the one 00:19:59.02\00:20:02.26 cross examining you, what is your name, my name is Jacob, 00:20:02.29\00:20:04.70 I'm a liar, I'm a deceiver, I'm a sup planter, I'm a sinner, 00:20:04.73\00:20:07.04 and He says your name is no longer that, now your name is 00:20:07.07\00:20:10.24 Israel, one who has prevailed with God, 00:20:10.27\00:20:12.67 and that's what that wrestling symbolizes, that this man 00:20:12.70\00:20:16.07 had gained a spiritual victory when he admitted that he was 00:20:16.10\00:20:19.73 a sinner in need of God's help, if that makes sense say "Amen. " 00:20:19.76\00:20:23.83 This is the very first time that the word Israel occurs 00:20:23.86\00:20:26.37 in all of the Bible. 00:20:26.40\00:20:27.59 So notice this, I want you to grasp on to this: 00:20:27.62\00:20:29.85 I want you to note that, and note that very, very, very well. 00:20:37.35\00:20:42.00 The first time Israel is used in the whole Bible, 00:20:42.03\00:20:44.85 it was when a single man, gained a spiritual victory, 00:20:44.88\00:20:48.48 when a what everyone? Single man gained what kind 00:20:48.51\00:20:51.26 of a victory, a spiritual victory. 00:20:51.29\00:20:53.05 Now of course Israel had children, the 12 tribes, 00:20:53.08\00:20:57.17 and that name Israel, was the name of Jacob, 00:20:57.20\00:21:01.37 came to mean all of the descendants of Jacob, 00:21:01.40\00:21:05.06 and thus a nation called the nation of Israel, but here's 00:21:05.09\00:21:10.58 the important point, in the beginning, in the first original 00:21:10.61\00:21:14.61 use of the phrase Israel, it was one man who gained a 00:21:14.64\00:21:18.67 spiritual victory. 00:21:18.70\00:21:19.72 If that make sense say "Amen. " 00:21:19.75\00:21:21.09 It only became a nation, and you can check that out 00:21:21.12\00:21:24.38 in Exodus, go with me to Exodus. 00:21:24.41\00:21:26.28 Exodus, let's see if we can find it here, chapter 1, 00:21:26.31\00:21:30.16 Exodus 1, Jacob had sons, one of those sons was Joseph, 00:21:30.19\00:21:35.18 Joseph, you know the story, went down into Egypt, 00:21:35.28\00:21:37.28 and the children dwelt in Egypt for a long period of time 00:21:37.31\00:21:41.41 and then they were called out, and that calling out 00:21:41.44\00:21:43.95 was called the Exodus. 00:21:43.98\00:21:45.55 Does that make sense everyone, so that's what we find in Exodus 00:21:45.58\00:21:48.37 chapter one, beginning with verse one: 00:21:48.40\00:21:50.35 Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came 00:21:50.38\00:21:55.78 to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob: 00:21:55.81\00:22:00.14 Do you see that, so Exodus begins with a listing 00:22:00.17\00:22:03.13 of all of the descendants of Israel, but Israel was the new 00:22:03.16\00:22:06.46 name of Jacob, and the name Israel was a spiritual term 00:22:06.49\00:22:10.38 that applied to a single man, that gained 00:22:10.41\00:22:12.89 what kind of a victory? 00:22:12.92\00:22:13.97 Spiritual Victory, are we all on the same page everyone? 00:22:14.00\00:22:16.53 So now you go to Exodus 4, Exodus 4 and notice with me 00:22:16.56\00:22:20.79 verse 22, Exodus 4:22, and this is the first verse that 00:22:20.82\00:22:25.61 I'm personally aware of where God refers to Israel 00:22:25.64\00:22:28.48 as a national identity, not just the descendants of Israel, 00:22:28.51\00:22:32.83 not just the children of Israel, but here the nation of Israel 00:22:32.86\00:22:36.77 having a national corporate identity, I'm in Exodus 4:22, 00:22:36.80\00:22:42.66 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, God speaking to Moses, 00:22:42.69\00:22:45.85 Thus says the LORD: "Israel is My what? My son, 00:22:45.88\00:22:51.74 Israel is my what? My son and notice what it says after that, 00:22:51.77\00:22:55.77 My firstborn. 00:22:55.80\00:22:57.20 Does everyone see that yes or no? 00:22:57.23\00:22:59.36 Israel is my son, my firstborn verse 23, So I say to you, 00:22:59.39\00:23:02.73 let My son go that he may serve Me. 00:23:02.76\00:23:10.90 But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, 00:23:10.93\00:23:14.40 your firstborn" 00:23:14.43\00:23:15.63 So God here takes Israel, national Israel, 00:23:15.66\00:23:20.18 the descendants of Jacob, the descendants of the one man 00:23:20.21\00:23:23.24 Israel, and He says that they are all my son. 00:23:23.27\00:23:27.94 They are all my what everyone? 00:23:27.97\00:23:29.34 My son, and then he says, they are the firstborn. 00:23:29.37\00:23:32.42 Sometimes we have the misunderstanding that 00:23:32.45\00:23:35.14 the word firstborn means the one that is born first, 00:23:35.17\00:23:37.41 first born does not necessarily mean born first. 00:23:37.44\00:23:41.42 First is not only a chronological term, 00:23:41.45\00:23:44.10 it's also a term of pre-eminence, 00:23:44.13\00:23:46.14 think of it this way, 00:23:46.17\00:23:47.36 George Bush's wife's name is Barbara, right! 00:23:47.45\00:23:50.13 She is the First Lady, does that mean that she is the first lady 00:23:50.16\00:23:54.34 that was ever created? 00:23:54.37\00:23:55.55 No, what it means is she is the most important lady, 00:23:55.58\00:23:58.30 she is the most pre-eminent lady in this country. 00:23:58.33\00:24:00.79 So the first born is not necessarily the one who was 00:24:00.82\00:24:03.45 born first, it's the one who is chiefest and most pre-eminent 00:24:03.48\00:24:07.04 among those who were born, does that make sense everyone? 00:24:07.07\00:24:09.51 So he is my first born, incidentally Jacob was called 00:24:09.54\00:24:12.93 the first born, but Esau was born first. 00:24:12.96\00:24:15.15 Do you follow that line of reasoning everyone, very simple. 00:24:15.18\00:24:18.12 Now God here, calls Israel out of Egypt, God calls Israel out 00:24:18.15\00:24:24.69 of what everyone? 00:24:24.72\00:24:25.69 Egypt, but here is the things that I want you to notice: 00:24:25.70\00:24:27.34 Israel has transitioned from a single man, 00:24:27.37\00:24:30.43 who gained what kind of a victory? 00:24:30.46\00:24:31.97 A spiritual victory, to a national corporate identity. 00:24:32.00\00:24:36.95 Now let's review very quickly here because what we're 00:24:36.98\00:24:40.80 going to move into next is absolutely, totally, 00:24:40.83\00:24:43.75 completely phenomenal, and Biblical, and if you will follow 00:24:43.78\00:24:46.72 it through, you will see with new eyes who Israel really is. 00:24:46.75\00:24:50.70 You will see who is real, Israel. 00:24:50.73\00:24:53.63 Now God began in the beginning with a man named Adam, 00:24:53.66\00:24:58.53 God's plan for Adam was, he will be my representative, 00:24:58.56\00:25:01.39 he will live righteously, he will live faithfully on earth, 00:25:01.42\00:25:03.42 and everyone can look to Adam as my representative, 00:25:03.45\00:25:06.15 Adam failed! Adam what everyone? 00:25:06.18\00:25:09.13 Failed, so God hits Control, Alt, Delete, rewinds the 00:25:09.17\00:25:12.67 whole thing, starts afresh, and He has the flood, 00:25:12.70\00:25:15.23 which was the reversal of creation, and He has a man named 00:25:15.26\00:25:17.88 what? Noah, and Noah failed too. 00:25:17.91\00:25:20.69 Interestingly he failed in the very same way didn't he? 00:25:20.72\00:25:22.76 Because Adam had failed on the issue of fruit, 00:25:22.79\00:25:25.28 the issue of appetite, and Noah failed when his fruit 00:25:25.31\00:25:28.40 made him drunk and he fell. 00:25:28.43\00:25:30.34 So He hits Control, Alt, Delete, He restarts creation, 00:25:30.37\00:25:33.82 Noah, this is my guy, this is my representative, 00:25:33.85\00:25:36.38 this is the one who will live righteously, this is the one 00:25:36.41\00:25:38.25 who everyone can look to, this is my man, and HE fails. 00:25:38.28\00:25:41.36 So God starts over and He calls a man named Abraham, 00:25:41.39\00:25:44.40 and Abraham begot Isaac, and Isaac begot Jacob, 00:25:44.43\00:25:47.85 and Jacob becomes Israel, and so Israel becomes 00:25:47.88\00:25:50.86 God's new representative on earth. 00:25:50.89\00:25:53.46 Israel becomes what everyone? 00:25:53.49\00:25:55.17 God's new representative, so we have Adam, 00:25:55.20\00:25:57.84 and then we have Noah, and then we have Israel, 00:25:57.87\00:26:01.94 so let's say that together, Adam, and then Noah, 00:26:01.97\00:26:05.51 and then Israel. 00:26:05.54\00:26:07.06 Did Adam fail or succeed? He failed, did Noah fail 00:26:07.09\00:26:11.12 or succeed? He failed, now that doesn't mean that these 00:26:11.15\00:26:13.44 people's whole lives were failures, but it does mean 00:26:13.47\00:26:16.22 that they did commit sins, in such a way, that they could 00:26:16.25\00:26:19.77 not be God's supreme representative on earth. 00:26:19.80\00:26:22.43 Because how many times do you have to sin before you have 00:26:22.46\00:26:24.60 misrepresented God? 00:26:24.63\00:26:25.92 One time, because how many times has God sinned? 00:26:25.95\00:26:28.26 None, so one failure disqualifies you to be a 00:26:28.29\00:26:31.83 perfect representative of a perfectly infinite God. 00:26:31.86\00:26:34.39 So Adam failed, and Noah failed, and God calls Israel. 00:26:34.42\00:26:40.58 Now Israel is basically the center of much of the 00:26:40.61\00:26:44.40 Old Testament, ok, but what I want you to understand 00:26:44.43\00:26:47.21 is that national Israel began as a single man, 00:26:47.24\00:26:51.16 who gained what? 00:26:51.19\00:26:52.64 A spiritual victory, you've got it, from a single man, 00:26:52.67\00:26:55.79 to a whole nation. 00:26:55.82\00:26:58.73 From a single man to a whole nation, the word Israel 00:26:58.76\00:27:01.74 means one who has prevailed with God, one who has overcome. 00:27:01.77\00:27:06.03 Are we all together yes or no? 00:27:06.06\00:27:08.45 Now some people say modern Israel today over in ancient 00:27:08.48\00:27:13.57 Palestine, that is still God's Israel on earth. 00:27:13.60\00:27:16.90 I'm going to show you today that is not God's Israel 00:27:16.93\00:27:19.20 on earth, does God have faithful people that live in the 00:27:19.23\00:27:21.51 geographical area of Israel? Sure He does, 00:27:21.54\00:27:23.91 God has faithful people in Jamaica, God has faithful people 00:27:23.94\00:27:26.55 in Russia, God has faithful people in Sweden, 00:27:26.58\00:27:29.03 God even has a few faithful people right here in 00:27:29.06\00:27:30.94 Sterling Heights, can you say "Amen!" 00:27:30.97\00:27:32.44 God has faithful people everywhere, but as a nation 00:27:32.47\00:27:36.30 Israel had a covenant, and they did not satisfy the 00:27:36.33\00:27:40.08 stipulations of that covenant, and we read about that in 00:27:40.11\00:27:43.44 Daniel 9:24 when the angel Gabriel said to Daniel: 00:27:43.47\00:27:46.58 Seventy weeks are what? 00:27:46.61\00:27:48.34 Who were Daniel's people? 00:27:51.06\00:27:52.42 Israel, and what city is being referred to here? 00:27:52.45\00:27:55.97 Jerusalem, and so God gave them seventy weeks, 00:27:56.00\00:27:58.12 490 years and we've already looked at this, 00:27:58.15\00:28:00.15 it began in 457 B.C., here is that time that was especially 00:28:00.18\00:28:03.68 cut off for the Jews right here, it ended in 34 A.D. 00:28:03.71\00:28:06.83 Very, very powerfully here, Jesus was baptized in 27 A.D. 00:28:06.86\00:28:10.25 just as we have already said the end of the 69 weeks, 00:28:10.28\00:28:12.91 He was cut off in the middle of the week, but not for Himself 00:28:12.94\00:28:15.46 can you say Amen to that? 00:28:15.49\00:28:16.49 He caused sacrifice and oblation to cease, how come He cause that 00:28:16.52\00:28:19.51 to cease, because He was the true lamb of God 00:28:19.54\00:28:21.43 and there's no point in bringing these four shadowing 00:28:21.46\00:28:23.51 sacrifices to the temple anymore, 00:28:23.54\00:28:25.04 if that makes sense say Amen! 00:28:25.07\00:28:26.22 God continued that covenant for another 31/2 years 00:28:26.25\00:28:29.34 and finally concluded in 34 A.D. when Steven was stoned 00:28:29.37\00:28:33.16 and the leaders of national Israel plugged their ears 00:28:33.19\00:28:36.57 and said I'm not going to listen to anything that you say 00:28:36.60\00:28:39.00 and then he was stoned, and the gospel then goes to the who? 00:28:39.03\00:28:43.43 Gentiles! And so right out of Daniel 9, 00:28:43.46\00:28:46.52 just as plain as the noon day sun, that God did have 00:28:46.55\00:28:48.97 a covenant with Israel, but that was not an unconditional 00:28:49.00\00:28:51.73 covenant, it was a covenant that was conditioned upon 00:28:51.76\00:28:54.83 their obedience. 00:28:54.86\00:28:55.85 You can read all about that in Deuteronomy, 00:28:55.88\00:28:57.28 there were the covenant curses and the covenant blessings. 00:28:57.31\00:28:59.97 If they were faithful the blessings, 00:29:00.00\00:29:01.65 if they were disobedient the curses. 00:29:01.68\00:29:03.31 So we see in Daniel 9, Matthew 21, and Matthew 24, 00:29:03.34\00:29:06.42 this very consistent, consistent theme: 00:29:06.45\00:29:09.09 In Daniel 9 the Messiah was rejected, the very next thing is 00:29:09.12\00:29:12.88 the city was destroyed. 00:29:12.91\00:29:14.03 Jesus tells a parable in chapter Matthew 21, 00:29:14.06\00:29:16.00 and He said the Messiah will come, He will be rejected, 00:29:16.03\00:29:18.37 and even ask them, what would you do under the similar 00:29:18.40\00:29:20.15 circumstances, and they said, I would miserably destroy 00:29:20.18\00:29:22.85 those people, and He said have you never read... 00:29:22.88\00:29:24.45 Have you never read that the stone that the builders rejected 00:29:24.48\00:29:26.84 has become the chief of the corner. 00:29:26.87\00:29:28.12 This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes 00:29:28.15\00:29:30.71 and He says there in Matthew 21:43, Therefore, the kingdom 00:29:30.74\00:29:34.74 of heaven will be taken from you and given to a nation 00:29:34.77\00:29:37.86 bring forth the fruits thereof. 00:29:37.89\00:29:39.30 Jesus foresaw that the nation of Israel, 00:29:39.33\00:29:42.33 the what did I say everyone? 00:29:42.36\00:29:43.66 The nation of Israel was sealing their fate, by not receiving 00:29:43.69\00:29:47.29 the Messiah of Israel. 00:29:47.32\00:29:48.71 And then in Matthew 24, the Messiah was rejected, 00:29:48.74\00:29:51.85 Behold your house was left unto you desolate. 00:29:51.88\00:29:53.84 He goes out into Matthew 24, the disciples try to 00:29:53.87\00:29:56.54 cheer Him up, Ah, look at all of the beautiful buildings 00:29:56.57\00:29:58.14 and He say do you see all of this, 00:29:58.17\00:29:59.39 do you see all of these buildings, 00:29:59.42\00:30:00.70 do you see all of this grandeur and glory of these marvelous 00:30:00.73\00:30:03.15 buttress edifice's, they will all be destroyed, 00:30:03.18\00:30:06.09 not one will be left upon another. 00:30:06.12\00:30:08.20 The Messiah was rejected, the city was destroyed, 00:30:08.23\00:30:10.90 that's a consistent theme, Messiah rejected, 00:30:10.93\00:30:13.01 city destroyed, Messiah rejected, city destroyed, 00:30:13.04\00:30:15.61 if that makes sense say "Amen. " 00:30:15.64\00:30:18.77 Very simple, so the Messiah was rejected, Israel did not 00:30:18.80\00:30:22.42 fulfill it's covenant promise, and so God moved to the Gentiles 00:30:22.45\00:30:26.17 and He gave a very powerful, a very sad, very unfortunate, 00:30:26.20\00:30:29.21 very avoidable judgment... 00:30:29.24\00:30:33.02 In 70 A.D. when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman 00:30:33.05\00:30:36.97 general Titus, and it was a final judgment upon Israel 00:30:37.00\00:30:40.63 the Jewish Christians perceived that they knew for a fact 00:30:40.66\00:30:44.40 that, that is exactly what had happened, well this raises 00:30:44.43\00:30:46.70 the question, if Adam failed, and if Noah failed, 00:30:46.73\00:30:51.68 and if Israel failed, and they did fail, do we now have to 00:30:51.71\00:30:56.69 believe that modern day Israel, that is Israel over there in 00:30:56.72\00:31:00.69 Palestine, is still God's Israel and God is just waiting for them 00:31:00.72\00:31:03.38 to get their act together, and oops, it is going to be 00:31:03.41\00:31:05.29 difficult for that to happen in the present political climate 00:31:05.32\00:31:07.58 and so we have a "umm" how are we going to do this, 00:31:07.61\00:31:09.23 how are we going to pull this off? 00:31:09.26\00:31:10.32 I've got a great idea, let's manufacture something called 00:31:10.35\00:31:12.79 the rapture so we can get the church out of the way 00:31:12.82\00:31:14.97 and then God can fulfill all of His covenant promises 00:31:15.00\00:31:17.23 to Israel. 00:31:17.26\00:31:18.30 Beloved, there is a much easier way to understand the Bible 00:31:18.33\00:31:21.69 can you say "Amen?" 00:31:21.72\00:31:23.12 I mean beloved we do not have to go through this 00:31:23.15\00:31:25.66 circuitous maze, how are we going to make sense out of 00:31:25.69\00:31:29.03 the Old Testament. 00:31:29.06\00:31:30.03 I'm going to show you right now how to make sense 00:31:30.04\00:31:32.53 out of the Old Testament, and what happens to all of those 00:31:32.56\00:31:35.40 promises that God made to Israel, God has a new Israel 00:31:35.43\00:31:39.69 and that Israel was faithful. 00:31:39.72\00:31:42.09 You say what is he talking about, who is this new Israel 00:31:42.12\00:31:44.76 that was faithful, well let's take a look at who it is. 00:31:44.79\00:31:47.17 I'm going to Matthew chapter 1, 00:31:47.20\00:31:51.40 Matthew 1, you say who is God's new Israel? 00:31:51.43\00:31:57.08 I'll let the cat out of the bag and make it crystal clear 00:31:57.11\00:32:00.19 to you, Jesus Christ is God's new Israel. 00:32:00.48\00:32:03.71 Jesus Christ is Israel! 00:32:03.74\00:32:07.99 Let's go back and remember this, Israel was originally a term 00:32:08.02\00:32:13.59 that applied to what? 00:32:13.62\00:32:15.59 A single man, who gained what kind of victory? 00:32:15.62\00:32:19.32 A spiritual victory, and what was God looking for in Israel, 00:32:19.35\00:32:21.84 what was God looking for in Noah, 00:32:21.87\00:32:23.18 what was God looking for in Adam, a fit representative 00:32:23.21\00:32:26.34 on earth, and He finds it in the man Jesus Christ. 00:32:26.37\00:32:30.44 Now let's just think a little bit about Israel, 00:32:30.47\00:32:33.27 how national Israel came to be. 00:32:33.30\00:32:35.48 A man named Joseph had dreams, a man named Joseph had what? 00:32:35.51\00:32:40.78 Dreams, and the children of Israel were led down into Egypt 00:32:40.81\00:32:44.04 for a time, isn't that true everyone? 00:32:44.07\00:32:45.65 Whoa! Let's think about our own Lord, let's think about 00:32:45.68\00:32:47.91 our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:32:47.94\00:32:49.30 His mother's name was Mary, and His earthly father's name 00:32:49.33\00:32:52.80 was Joseph, and Joseph has a dream, and an angel 00:32:52.83\00:32:55.72 appears to him and says someone is going to try to hurt 00:32:55.75\00:32:57.88 the child, take the child to guess where? 00:32:57.91\00:33:01.19 Take the child to Egypt, and just as national Israel 00:33:01.22\00:33:05.46 stayed in Egypt for a time, Jesus remained in Egypt for a 00:33:05.49\00:33:08.73 time, until another dream came to Him. 00:33:08.76\00:33:10.64 He said listen the one who sought to kill Jesus 00:33:10.67\00:33:13.30 has now died, you can bring Him out. 00:33:13.33\00:33:17.86 You can bring Him what everyone? 00:33:17.89\00:33:19.59 Out of Egypt! Absolutely fascinating! 00:33:19.62\00:33:21.76 So a man named Joseph had dreams: 00:33:21.79\00:33:24.36 Now let's think about that for just a moment, 00:33:31.34\00:33:33.11 after the Exodus when Pharaoh finally relented, 00:33:33.14\00:33:36.24 and let the children of Israel go, where was the first place 00:33:36.27\00:33:39.83 that they came to, what was the first major thing 00:33:39.86\00:33:41.98 that happened? 00:33:42.01\00:33:43.00 The Red Sea, that's exactly right, they come to the Red Sea. 00:33:43.03\00:33:45.21 And they so oh, you know we are so confused, 00:33:45.24\00:33:47.89 we have impassable on the right, 00:33:47.92\00:33:49.85 and impassable on the left, impassible on the right and left 00:33:49.88\00:33:54.38 I do know my right and my left. 00:33:54.41\00:33:55.52 That's left, and the armies of Pharaoh are approaching 00:33:55.55\00:34:00.08 very rapidly from behind, and God parts the Red Sea, 00:34:00.11\00:34:02.47 right in front of them, can you say "Amen!" 00:34:02.50\00:34:03.94 So look at this, they go into Egypt, they stay in Egypt, 00:34:03.97\00:34:07.27 they are called out of Egypt, they go to the Red Sea. 00:34:07.30\00:34:09.62 Now it's very interesting, look at 1 Corinthians 10, 00:34:09.65\00:34:12.46 keep your finger here in Matthew because we are going to 00:34:12.49\00:34:13.85 come back, look at 1 Corinthians 10, 00:34:13.88\00:34:16.22 very quickly, see if you can beat me there. 00:34:16.25\00:34:18.15 1 Corinthians 10, and I'm in verse 1, 1 Corinthians 10:1. 00:34:18.18\00:34:24.47 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that 00:34:24.50\00:34:27.87 all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through 00:34:27.90\00:34:30.99 the sea, He's talking about Israel. 00:34:31.02\00:34:32.98 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 00:34:33.01\00:34:38.81 So it's very interesting, Paul takes this passing through 00:34:38.84\00:34:41.28 the Red Sea and he parallels it with a baptism experience 00:34:41.31\00:34:44.70 this is what Scotty talked about in Sabbath school 00:34:44.73\00:34:46.24 this morning, and so he says the Red Sea was like a baptism. 00:34:46.27\00:34:49.79 The Red Sea was like a what everyone? 00:34:49.82\00:34:51.65 Baptism, and it comes from the Greek word Baptiso, 00:34:51.68\00:34:54.38 which means to emerge, and so Paul takes this passing 00:34:54.41\00:34:57.03 through the Red Sea, and he says it was just like a baptism. 00:34:57.06\00:34:59.73 Now after Jesus was called out of Egypt, next thing that we 00:34:59.76\00:35:03.80 basically see Jesus doing in the gospel of Matthew is 00:35:03.83\00:35:06.25 being baptized. 00:35:06.28\00:35:07.99 Are you with me everyone? 00:35:08.02\00:35:10.77 The very next thing we see is Him being baptized 00:35:10.80\00:35:13.30 so I'm in Matthew, you can go back to Matthew with me, 00:35:13.33\00:35:15.07 Matthew 3, picking it up in verse 13, 00:35:15.10\00:35:19.71 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan 00:35:19.74\00:35:22.59 to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, 00:35:22.62\00:35:25.31 saying, I need to be baptized by You, 00:35:25.34\00:35:27.06 and are You coming to me? But Jesus answered and said, 00:35:27.09\00:35:28.96 Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us 00:35:28.99\00:35:33.90 to fulfill, now if you are in the custom of writing in 00:35:33.93\00:35:39.51 your Bible, I'm going to recommend that you take out 00:35:39.54\00:35:41.03 a pen, and you underline that word fulfill right there, 00:35:41.06\00:35:44.20 put a star by it, put something by it, because that word fulfill 00:35:44.23\00:35:47.66 is arguably the single most important word in the gospel 00:35:47.69\00:35:52.73 of Matthew, I'll show you that in just a moment. 00:35:52.76\00:35:55.60 Jesus comes there and He says, hey listen, 00:35:55.63\00:35:57.82 I need you to baptize Me, he says no!, no!, no!, 00:35:57.85\00:35:59.51 I need to be baptized by you and He says listen, 00:35:59.54\00:36:00.94 we've got to do this so we can fulfill all righteousness 00:36:00.97\00:36:05.34 and then is says He allowed Him, and when He had been baptized 00:36:05.37\00:36:08.02 Jesus came up immediately from the water, and behold 00:36:08.05\00:36:10.76 the heavens were opened unto Him and He saw the spirit of God 00:36:10.79\00:36:12.63 descending like a dove, and alighting upon Him. 00:36:12.66\00:36:14.21 Now look at verse 17, And suddenly a voice came 00:36:14.24\00:36:16.25 from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, 00:36:16.28\00:36:19.94 in whom I am well pleased. 00:36:19.97\00:36:21.86 "So Jesus it the Son of God. " 00:36:21.89\00:36:23.88 Question, question, question, who was the Son of God 00:36:23.91\00:36:27.81 in Exodus 4? Israel, that's right, 00:36:27.84\00:36:30.74 remember that's what Moses said to Pharaoh 00:36:30.77\00:36:32.40 let my children go, My Son, My Firstborn, Israel! 00:36:32.43\00:36:37.19 And God here, says my Son, and I'm happy with Him. 00:36:37.22\00:36:41.35 Just as national Israel had gone into Egypt because a man named 00:36:41.39\00:36:45.92 Joseph dreamed dreams, they remained in Egypt for a time, 00:36:45.95\00:36:48.49 they were called from Egypt, they passed through the waters 00:36:48.52\00:36:51.03 so to Jesus a man named Joseph has dreams, they go into Egypt 00:36:51.06\00:36:53.49 they stay in Egypt for a time, they are called out of Egypt, 00:36:53.52\00:36:55.96 as He comes out of Egypt He goes to the waters of what? 00:36:55.99\00:36:59.36 Baptism! Fascinating! 00:36:59.39\00:37:01.93 Now where do the children of Israel go after they pass 00:37:01.96\00:37:03.81 through the Red Sea? 00:37:03.84\00:37:04.81 They go to Mount Sinai, ok, in the context of Mount Sinai 00:37:04.82\00:37:09.04 God gives them the law and then they go into the wilderness 00:37:09.07\00:37:12.47 for how many years? Forty years! 00:37:12.50\00:37:14.32 What does Jesus do immediately after His baptism? 00:37:14.35\00:37:16.63 He goes into the wilderness and the Bible says He was led by 00:37:16.66\00:37:20.88 the what? 00:37:20.91\00:37:21.88 Spirit for the purpose of being tempted. 00:37:21.89\00:37:24.73 Now do you see that Jesus here is retracing the high points 00:37:24.76\00:37:28.67 in Israel's national history, yes or no? 00:37:28.70\00:37:30.79 Fascinating! Just as Israel was in the 00:37:30.82\00:37:33.85 wilderness for 40 years, Jesus goes into the wilderness 00:37:33.88\00:37:36.80 for 40 days. 00:37:36.83\00:37:37.80 Why is Jesus walking over step by step the high points of 00:37:37.81\00:37:40.47 Israel's national history? 00:37:40.50\00:37:41.58 Because He is the new Israel and He knows it, 00:37:41.61\00:37:44.04 a single man who gains a what kind of victory? 00:37:44.07\00:37:47.56 A spiritual victory, so He could be God's representative 00:37:47.59\00:37:51.62 on earth. 00:37:51.65\00:37:52.62 Fascinating! Forty days in the wilderness. 00:37:52.63\00:37:55.11 Now let's go to that, you are there in Matthew 4, 00:37:55.14\00:37:57.46 Matthew 4, Satan come to Jesus he gives Him three temptations, 00:37:57.49\00:38:02.26 how many temptations? 00:38:02.29\00:38:03.35 Three temptations, the first one He says hey listen, 00:38:03.38\00:38:05.54 cause at these stones be made into, bread, make these stones 00:38:05.57\00:38:09.92 into bread, but notice what Jesus says in verse 4, 00:38:09.95\00:38:11.83 It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread 00:38:11.86\00:38:15.96 alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. 00:38:16.00\00:38:19.89 Do you know where He is quoting from? 00:38:19.92\00:38:21.11 He's quoting from the book of Deuteronomy, 00:38:21.14\00:38:24.20 do you know what the word Deuteronomy means? 00:38:24.23\00:38:28.12 It means the second law, Due is to, nomos is law. 00:38:28.15\00:38:33.76 Deuteronomy is the second rendering of the second reading 00:38:33.79\00:38:35.92 of the law, it's basically Moses, three sermons, 00:38:35.95\00:38:39.05 Moses recapitulates the whole history of national Israel 00:38:39.08\00:38:42.51 and Jesus here is in the wilderness, the devil says 00:38:42.54\00:38:44.93 make these stones into bread, and Jesus actually quotes from 00:38:44.96\00:38:48.34 the very experience of the children of Israel by quoting 00:38:48.37\00:38:51.72 Deuteronomy, He says No! It is written, We don't live 00:38:51.75\00:38:55.03 by bread alone, and we don't live by manna alone, 00:38:55.06\00:38:58.09 but by all of the words that come from God. 00:38:58.12\00:39:00.14 Jesus here is being tempted in the very same area that Adam 00:39:00.17\00:39:04.14 was tempted in the area of appetite. 00:39:04.17\00:39:05.63 Adam failed because of fruit, Noah failed because part of the 00:39:05.66\00:39:09.67 fruit of the vineyard and the devil comes and he says ahh! 00:39:09.70\00:39:11.83 I've been down this road before, God gets this representative... 00:39:11.86\00:39:14.52 Been there done that, here's another control, alt, delete, 00:39:14.55\00:39:18.12 and he says I will trip Him up the same way I tripped up Adam, 00:39:18.15\00:39:20.28 I'll trip Him up the same way I tripped up Noah, 00:39:20.31\00:39:22.55 Hey listen you are really hungry why don't you eat. 00:39:22.58\00:39:24.71 He was totally unprepared for what had came next, 00:39:24.74\00:39:29.69 it is written Satan, and He goes back to the experience of 00:39:29.72\00:39:33.65 Israel in the wilderness and He quotes from Deuteronomy 00:39:33.68\00:39:36.47 where Israel had failed, Christ succeeded. 00:39:36.50\00:39:39.86 And then He was tempted again, look at this, 00:39:39.89\00:39:43.21 absolutely fascinating, 00:39:43.24\00:39:44.37 we pick it up there in verse 7, Jesus said to him, 00:39:44.40\00:39:46.68 It is written again, You shall not tempt 00:39:46.71\00:39:50.10 the LORD your God. That's from Deuteronomy as well 00:39:50.13\00:39:52.10 that's straight out of Deuteronomy. 00:39:52.13\00:39:54.55 Remember what had happened the children of Israel 00:39:54.58\00:39:57.04 were walking out and they were on their way to Mount Sinai 00:39:57.07\00:40:00.53 and they came to this bitter water, and they said oh Moses 00:40:00.56\00:40:04.00 you let us here to die, and this bitter sour tasting 00:40:04.03\00:40:07.36 sulfuric water, and Moses basically said hey listen 00:40:08.06\00:40:11.59 you are tempting God, you are chiding God, you are testing 00:40:11.62\00:40:14.66 God, the name of that place was Mossa and Meribah. 00:40:14.69\00:40:17.16 Mossa means temptation, and Meribah means chiding. 00:40:17.19\00:40:20.38 And it says don't tempt the Lord like you did in Mossa, 00:40:20.41\00:40:22.98 God does not lead you out of the Wilderness 00:40:23.01\00:40:24.91 in a place to die. 00:40:24.94\00:40:26.11 Can you say "Amen?" 00:40:26.20\00:40:27.17 That's true for everyone of you, God might be leading you out 00:40:27.18\00:40:29.28 of somewhere, but God never leads you somewhere just to 00:40:29.31\00:40:32.72 kill you and let you die, someone say "Amen!" 00:40:32.75\00:40:35.21 God leads you with a purpose, and if God has been leading us 00:40:35.24\00:40:37.63 point, by point, by point, we are testing God, 00:40:37.66\00:40:40.86 when we doubt the leading that God has in our lives, 00:40:40.89\00:40:43.82 can you say "Amen!" 00:40:43.85\00:40:44.82 And so Jesus here says No! It is written, you shall not 00:40:44.83\00:40:48.48 test or tempt the Lord your God, He's quoting from the very 00:40:48.51\00:40:51.46 experience in Exodus 17 where Israel had failed, 00:40:51.49\00:40:54.76 Jesus succeeded, and then one more look at this in verse 10: 00:40:54.79\00:40:59.53 Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 00:40:59.57\00:41:01.95 'You shall worship the LORD your God, 00:41:01.98\00:41:03.31 and Him only you shall serve.
