What we're going to discover here today 00:00:15.96\00:00:18.51 is that this sanctuary, that God gave to Moses, is actually 00:00:18.54\00:00:24.07 a divine picture or a divine miniature and model 00:00:24.32\00:00:28.09 of the great plan of salvation. 00:00:28.12\00:00:30.57 Let's begin by looking right there in the paragraph 00:00:30.60\00:00:34.94 that begins "The key blank that unlocks the judgment is found." 00:00:35.25\00:00:38.49 The key, that would be the first word, that unlocks the judgment 00:00:38.52\00:00:43.64 is found in the Israelite sanctuary. 00:00:43.67\00:00:46.65 We've already spent some time looking at where 00:00:46.93\00:00:49.55 the judgment comes in the great sweep of time. 00:00:49.58\00:00:52.04 We'll go over that a little bit more as we move on 00:00:52.07\00:00:54.69 into the presentation, but you remember there was Babylon, 00:00:54.72\00:00:58.05 Medopersia, Greece, Rome, little horn and then the judgment 00:00:58.08\00:01:01.53 followed by the second coming. 00:01:01.56\00:01:03.26 Here it says the key that unlocks the judgment, 00:01:03.29\00:01:05.91 this judgment that we're trying to discover, 00:01:05.94\00:01:07.52 is found in the Israelite sanctuary. 00:01:07.55\00:01:09.53 The cleansing of the sanctuary was a day of judgment 00:01:09.56\00:01:13.88 for Israel, symbolizing the final judgment. 00:01:13.91\00:01:17.42 The Day of Atonement, the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:01:17.67\00:01:20.77 was a day of judgment symbolizing the final judgment. 00:01:20.80\00:01:23.73 The cleansing of the sanctuary was on the day of atonement. 00:01:23.76\00:01:29.02 The Day of Atonement divides into three words: at one meant 00:01:29.18\00:01:33.13 or at one with, that's exactly right, 00:01:33.16\00:01:35.05 otherwise known as Yom Kippur. 00:01:35.08\00:01:36.75 In order to understand the day of atonement we must understand 00:01:36.78\00:01:39.75 at least in a basic sense the purpose and drama 00:01:39.78\00:01:43.28 of the Israelite sanctuary. 00:01:43.31\00:01:45.05 There were two main services. How many services everyone? 00:01:45.08\00:01:48.02 Two main services that were carried out in the sanctuary. 00:01:48.05\00:01:50.46 There were many ceremonies and rituals but they can be 00:01:50.49\00:01:52.88 roughly divided into two main categories: 00:01:52.91\00:01:55.25 the daily service and the yearly service. 00:01:55.28\00:01:58.61 Take notes an briefly describe both of these services below. 00:01:58.64\00:02:04.24 Here is a picture of the Israelite sanctuary, 00:02:04.53\00:02:09.61 how it would have looked. 00:02:09.91\00:02:11.40 We'd like to begin by taking a look at the Israelite sanctuary. 00:02:11.43\00:02:16.29 You can sort of see it there. 00:02:16.32\00:02:18.02 The outer courtyard here where the large altar is, 00:02:18.05\00:02:20.61 than the laver where the priest would wash 00:02:20.64\00:02:22.32 before entering the tabernacle proper. 00:02:22.35\00:02:23.61 The tabernacle proper was composed of two parts. 00:02:23.64\00:02:26.38 The first was the holy place and there where three articles 00:02:26.41\00:02:29.38 of furniture in the holy place. 00:02:29.41\00:02:31.03 How many articles of furniture? Three. 00:02:31.06\00:02:32.72 As you walked in to your immediate left there would be 00:02:32.75\00:02:34.68 the seven branched candlestick. 00:02:34.71\00:02:37.01 To your right would be the table of shewbread 00:02:37.04\00:02:38.85 that had 12 loaves of bread. 00:02:38.88\00:02:40.47 As you walked right up in front of you there was a large curtain 00:02:40.50\00:02:43.56 and that curtain separated the holy place 00:02:43.59\00:02:46.05 from the most holy place. 00:02:46.08\00:02:47.51 This side of the curtain was the altar of incense. 00:02:47.54\00:02:52.13 So three articles of furniture, than as you would move pass that 00:02:52.51\00:02:56.64 through the heavy curtain there would be a single article 00:02:56.67\00:02:59.35 of furniture, holy furniture, in the most holy place 00:02:59.38\00:03:02.35 of the heavenly sanctuary. What was that? 00:03:02.38\00:03:04.18 The Ark of the Covenant. 00:03:04.21\00:03:05.89 This kind of an overview, trying to understand this sanctuary 00:03:05.92\00:03:11.47 from a Biblical perspective. 00:03:11.78\00:03:14.00 What we're going to discover is that this was not something 00:03:14.03\00:03:17.06 that God invented to keep the Israelites busy, 00:03:17.09\00:03:19.80 that is essential. 00:03:19.83\00:03:20.87 God didn't say "You know I've got this idea." and He started 00:03:20.90\00:03:24.16 to invent this sort of capricious and arbitrary drama: 00:03:24.19\00:03:26.50 "You go here and you do here.", sort of a game. 00:03:26.53\00:03:28.92 As if the Israelites were marionettes 00:03:28.95\00:03:30.52 just going about this drama that had no meaning 00:03:30.55\00:03:32.35 or significance. 00:03:32.38\00:03:33.35 As a matter of fact there was tremendous significance, 00:03:33.36\00:03:36.37 and tremendous foreshadowing in the Israelites' sanctuary. 00:03:36.40\00:03:39.35 And that's what I want to show you just now. 00:03:39.38\00:03:40.95 Open your Bible to the book of Hebrews. 00:03:40.98\00:03:45.70 That is in the New Testament. Go with me to Hebrews chapter 8. 00:03:46.00\00:03:52.46 You'll get through the Galatians, Ephesians, 00:03:52.69\00:03:54.68 Philippians, Colossians, than you come into the "Ts", 00:03:54.71\00:03:57.68 Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, and Hebrews. 00:03:57.71\00:04:02.17 We're going to Hebrews chapter 8. 00:04:02.47\00:04:05.50 These verses are not in your study guide 00:04:05.90\00:04:10.04 but I highly recommend that you write them down. 00:04:10.31\00:04:12.49 Hebrews chapter 8, verse 1 it says: 00:04:12.52\00:04:16.34 "Now the point in what we are saying is this: 00:04:16.66\00:04:23.89 we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand 00:04:24.18\00:04:29.87 of the Majesty in heaven," Who is that high priest? 00:04:30.12\00:04:32.52 Jesus Christ. 00:04:32.55\00:04:33.52 Look at verse two: "a minister of the sanctuary 00:04:33.53\00:04:38.43 and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected and not man." 00:04:38.76\00:04:45.10 Look at verse two, it says that we have a high priest 00:04:45.42\00:04:48.12 but is a high priest in the true tabernacle, the one 00:04:48.15\00:04:51.14 that God erected and not man. 00:04:51.17\00:04:53.32 What we're going to discover is that there are actually 00:04:53.35\00:04:55.76 two sanctuaries. How many sanctuaries? Two. 00:04:55.79\00:04:59.21 An earthly and a heavenly. What we're going to see 00:04:59.28\00:05:03.46 is that the earthly sanctuary was a model or a pattern, 00:05:03.64\00:05:07.60 or a copy, or a miniature of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:05:07.63\00:05:11.88 That's why the author of Hebrews says that we have a high priest 00:05:12.13\00:05:15.10 who is in the true tabernacle, the one that God made 00:05:15.13\00:05:18.85 and not man. 00:05:18.88\00:05:19.91 Same chapter look at verse 5. 00:05:20.10\00:05:21.91 It says: "Who serve the copy and shadows of heavenly things 00:05:22.20\00:05:26.72 as Moses was the divinely instructed when he was about 00:05:26.75\00:05:29.65 to make the tabernacle. This is God speaking to Moses 00:05:29.68\00:05:32.77 on the top of Mount Sinai: "See that you make all things 00:05:32.80\00:05:37.19 according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." 00:05:37.22\00:05:42.32 Notice that God says to Moses "I want you to make everything 00:05:42.58\00:05:46.68 according to the pattern." When I was growing up 00:05:46.71\00:05:49.94 frequently my grandparents would baby-sit me. 00:05:49.97\00:05:52.81 I never had the privilege of meeting my biological father. 00:05:52.84\00:05:55.57 My mother was a single mother and we lived in Wyoming, 00:05:55.60\00:05:58.80 and it was very difficult for her to hold down a job 00:05:58.83\00:06:00.87 and to take care of me and my younger brother. 00:06:00.90\00:06:02.61 So we'd spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house. 00:06:02.64\00:06:04.91 I loved spending time at my grandparents' house because 00:06:04.94\00:06:07.49 they had a beautiful apple tree behind the old house, 00:06:07.52\00:06:10.00 and I loved to climb up on the apple tree and hop up 00:06:10.03\00:06:12.35 on the garage and just really enjoyed spending time 00:06:12.38\00:06:14.93 with my grandparents. 00:06:14.96\00:06:15.93 But every now and then or probably once every week or two 00:06:15.94\00:06:18.41 my grandmother would take a trip to the most boring place 00:06:18.44\00:06:22.81 in the Universe. It's called "The fabric store." 00:06:22.84\00:06:27.66 She would have my brother and I go. You can't even 00:06:28.00\00:06:30.57 get into trouble in a Fabric store. There's just nothing 00:06:30.60\00:06:33.61 to break there, there's nothing to do. It's just a great, big, 00:06:33.64\00:06:38.06 black hole of boredom. 00:06:38.09\00:06:40.52 My brother and I, we'd go to the Fabric store there 00:06:40.86\00:06:46.05 and my grandmother would spend what seemed like hours 00:06:46.37\00:06:49.27 going through these little shelves of patterns, 00:06:49.30\00:06:52.12 little white envelopes with ladies standing like this 00:06:52.15\00:06:55.16 and guy standing like this. And she would buy these things 00:06:55.19\00:06:57.75 and it looked somewhat interesting I suppose. 00:06:57.78\00:06:59.79 Finally after what seemed like a tremendous long period of time 00:06:59.82\00:07:04.67 we would eventually leave the Fabric store and we'd go home 00:07:04.70\00:07:07.66 and she'd bought 6 or 7 of these white packets 00:07:07.69\00:07:10.97 and I was thinking "Maybe there's something exciting 00:07:11.00\00:07:13.22 in these white packets." The first time I saw her open 00:07:13.25\00:07:15.71 of those things up she pulls it out and it's brown paper. 00:07:15.74\00:07:20.49 I was like "You've got to be kidding!". 00:07:20.87\00:07:23.86 We've spent all afternoon in this silly store and you buy 00:07:23.89\00:07:27.85 brown paper. She'd take those fabric sections, yards, 00:07:27.88\00:07:32.05 and different things that she had purchased, and she would 00:07:32.08\00:07:34.93 lie them out and then she would put these patterns 00:07:34.96\00:07:37.97 on top of them. She'd put a what? Patterns on top of them 00:07:38.00\00:07:42.33 and cut them out and if she everything out just exactly 00:07:42.36\00:07:45.83 as the pattern prescribed, she could put together 00:07:45.86\00:07:48.34 the articles of clothing that were being advertised 00:07:48.37\00:07:50.88 on the front of the envelope. 00:07:50.91\00:07:53.39 So a pattern is an exact replica or a copy. 00:07:53.74\00:08:01.68 So God was speaking to Moses on top of Mount Sinai and said: 00:08:02.03\00:08:04.53 "Moses, listen to me very carefully. This is critical. 00:08:04.56\00:08:06.89 You need to make everything to the exact specificity 00:08:06.92\00:08:10.73 that I'm spelling out for you here. It has to be exactly 00:08:10.76\00:08:14.17 like the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain." 00:08:14.20\00:08:18.30 Had to be like what? Like the pattern. 00:08:18.33\00:08:19.98 The idea here is that Moses didn't just dream this up. 00:08:20.01\00:08:22.52 Moses wasn't sitting around with Aaron and some of the other 00:08:22.55\00:08:25.07 Israelites elders and say: "What would be interesting? 00:08:25.10\00:08:27.66 What could we do to keep all these people busy?" 00:08:27.69\00:08:29.84 No, no, no. God had revealed this pattern, 00:08:29.87\00:08:33.11 this three fold pattern of the Israelite sanctuary 00:08:33.14\00:08:36.29 that would eventually become Solomon's temple, etc. 00:08:36.32\00:08:39.84 So the sanctuary in the wilderness that was mobile 00:08:39.87\00:08:42.42 became the temple in Jerusalem. Are we all clear on that? 00:08:42.45\00:08:46.27 It always consisted of three major parts. How many parts? 00:08:46.30\00:08:50.13 Three major parts. 00:08:50.16\00:08:51.61 The outside was the courtyard, then the holy place, 00:08:51.74\00:08:55.65 and the most holy place. Now we're in Hebrews chapter 9. 00:08:55.68\00:08:58.42 Look at verse 23: "There for it was necessary that the copies 00:08:58.45\00:09:08.91 of the things in the heavens should be purified with these 00:09:09.21\00:09:12.72 but the heavenly things themselves 00:09:12.75\00:09:14.87 with better sacrifices then these." Verse 24: 00:09:14.90\00:09:18.04 "For Christ has not entered the holy place as made with 00:09:18.07\00:09:21.37 hands which are copies or figures of the true but 00:09:21.40\00:09:27.04 into heaven itself now to appear 00:09:27.35\00:09:29.51 in the presence of God for us." 00:09:29.54\00:09:31.13 What's the word that occurs in verse 23 and 24? Copy or figure 00:09:31.16\00:09:36.31 or pattern, depending on the translation 00:09:36.41\00:09:38.66 that you're reading from. 00:09:38.69\00:09:39.66 The idea is that when Jesus Christ became our great 00:09:39.67\00:09:41.86 high priest, He entered the true tabernacle, the one that God 00:09:41.89\00:09:45.73 had built and not the one that Moses built 00:09:45.76\00:09:47.53 on the Sinai desert floor. Are we all clear? Yes or no? 00:09:47.56\00:09:50.53 The larger picture that we're trying to paint here is this: 00:09:50.56\00:09:54.96 this Israelite sanctuary was a pattern, a copy, a model 00:09:54.99\00:09:59.45 of the true tabernacle that's in heaven. If that makes sense 00:09:59.64\00:10:02.56 I want you to say "Amen". Amen! 00:10:02.59\00:10:03.68 The point is that this isn't something that Moses dreamed up. 00:10:03.71\00:10:06.40 This was something that God specifically commanded 00:10:06.43\00:10:10.39 and ordained to incredible specificity and exactitude 00:10:10.52\00:10:14.29 to be constructed exactly as He said. So far so good. 00:10:14.32\00:10:18.60 Sometimes we find Exodus and Leviticus difficult to read 00:10:18.63\00:10:22.93 because Exodus and Leviticus is basically a "how to" manual 00:10:22.96\00:10:26.18 for the sanctuary. It's a "how to" manual, 00:10:26.21\00:10:29.31 how to conduct yourselves into various rituals and ceremonies 00:10:29.34\00:10:33.18 that surrounded this sanctuary, and the reason 00:10:33.21\00:10:36.13 that it's so specific... 00:10:36.16\00:10:37.79 Sometimes the details in Leviticus are almost laboriously 00:10:37.82\00:10:40.14 difficult to read... is that God wanted them carried out 00:10:40.17\00:10:43.13 in just a certain way. If that's clear say "Amen". 00:10:43.16\00:10:47.32 You might be wondering "Why? Is God an old fuddy-duddy. 00:10:47.53\00:10:51.68 It's His way or no way? Why was God so specific about this?" 00:10:51.71\00:10:55.18 What we're going to discover is that this sanctuary foreshadowed 00:10:55.21\00:11:00.11 Christ and the plan of salvation. 00:11:00.14\00:11:02.80 This sanctuary foreshadowed what? 00:11:02.83\00:11:04.77 Christ an the plan of salvation. 00:11:04.80\00:11:08.80 Keep you finger in Hebrews because we're going to return. 00:11:09.14\00:11:11.93 I want to show you one more verse to this effect. 00:11:11.96\00:11:13.74 It's in the book of Acts. Go to Acts chapter 8. 00:11:13.77\00:11:20.08 Here we're going to find the... actually Acts chapter 7. 00:11:20.45\00:11:32.74 Here we find Stephen delivering his sermon 00:11:33.13\00:11:39.28 to the elders of Israel. 00:11:39.43\00:11:42.00 In Acts chapter 7, verse 44, something very interesting here 00:11:42.27\00:11:46.46 that Stephen says just before he's stoned: "Our fathers 00:11:46.49\00:11:53.39 have the tabernacle of witness where in the wilderness, 00:11:53.68\00:11:58.51 as he appointed instructing Moses to make it according 00:11:58.82\00:12:03.34 to the pattern that he had seen." 00:12:03.57\00:12:06.23 Is it crystal clear that this sanctuary was built 00:12:06.26\00:12:09.86 after a pattern that God revealed to him? If that's clear 00:12:09.89\00:12:12.29 say "Amen". 00:12:12.32\00:12:13.29 There are other texts that could be cited but that hopefully 00:12:13.51\00:12:15.27 gets us off the ground. I'm going to go 00:12:15.30\00:12:16.79 to the book of Revelation, chapter 11, the last verse 19. 00:12:16.82\00:12:31.70 John the Revelator saw the ark in the heavenly temple. 00:12:32.04\00:12:37.97 Revelation chapter 11 verse 19. 00:12:38.29\00:12:40.86 It says: "Then the temple of God was open in heaven and the ark 00:12:41.09\00:12:55.90 of His covenant was seen in His temple." 00:12:56.24\00:12:59.97 If His temple is in heaven and the ark is in the temple, 00:13:00.25\00:13:02.59 then where is the ark? In heaven. It says: 00:13:02.62\00:13:05.63 "And there were thunderings and lightnings and noises 00:13:05.66\00:13:08.48 and an earthquake and great hail." 00:13:08.51\00:13:10.54 Here is the point. John in heavenly vision saw a glimpse 00:13:10.57\00:13:14.69 of the heavenly temple, the real deal. 00:13:14.72\00:13:17.84 This is the real McCoy, this is the one after which 00:13:18.07\00:13:21.62 the sanctuary in the Sinai desert floor was patterned. 00:13:21.65\00:13:25.49 John looks into heaven and he sees the temple of God 00:13:25.52\00:13:28.89 and he must have been...Where must have been looking in order 00:13:28.92\00:13:31.41 to see the ark? Which of the compartments? 00:13:31.44\00:13:36.53 He must have been looking into the most holy place and voila! 00:13:36.71\00:13:40.06 There's the ark of the covenant. 00:13:40.09\00:13:41.68 This helps us to see that everything that was taking place 00:13:41.71\00:13:45.10 on the Sinai desert floor had a purpose. Had a what? A purpose. 00:13:45.13\00:13:49.88 Let's go find out what actually was taking place 00:13:49.91\00:13:52.82 in that sanctuary. I've given you a place there, two places 00:13:52.85\00:13:56.41 to write out the two primary services 00:13:56.44\00:13:59.49 that were carried out there, in the Israelite sanctuary. 00:13:59.55\00:14:02.54 What we're going to discover is these were a foreshadowing 00:14:02.57\00:14:05.98 of salvation, a foreshadowing of Christ. 00:14:06.01\00:14:09.10 This sanctuary is all about Jesus Christ. About who? 00:14:09.13\00:14:13.75 Jesus Christ. 00:14:13.97\00:14:15.43 The first service is the daily service. 00:14:15.65\00:14:18.43 Let's go back to Hebrews chapter 9. 00:14:18.46\00:14:23.49 Let's pick it up in verse 6. 00:14:27.29\00:14:38.53 The author of Hebrews says this: "Now when these things 00:14:38.75\00:14:42.53 had thus been prepared, the priests went always 00:14:42.56\00:14:46.37 into the first part of the tabernacle, 00:14:46.62\00:14:48.80 performing the services." They went how often? Always. 00:14:48.83\00:14:53.81 Hebrews chapter 9 verse 6: "Now when these things 00:14:54.04\00:14:56.93 had thus been prepared, the priests went always (often) 00:14:56.96\00:14:59.83 into the first part of the tabernacle, 00:14:59.86\00:15:01.59 performing the services." Verse 7 "But into the second 00:15:01.62\00:15:03.73 part the high priest went alone once a year not without blood." 00:15:03.76\00:15:12.65 That's a double negative "not without blood" which would mean 00:15:12.94\00:15:15.63 "with blood", "which he offered for himself and for the sins 00:15:15.66\00:15:20.05 of the people, committed in ignorance." In verses 6 and 7 00:15:20.08\00:15:23.94 we have a very simple articulation here of basically 00:15:23.97\00:15:28.90 much of Exodus and much of Leviticus, and that is 00:15:29.21\00:15:30.88 that there were two primary services: 00:15:30.91\00:15:33.41 the daily service and the yearly service. The which service? 00:15:33.44\00:15:38.60 the daily and the yearly. Let's walk through the daily service. 00:15:38.93\00:15:43.58 We'll make this very simple so that we can all get 00:15:43.61\00:15:45.55 our fingers rapped around it. 00:15:45.58\00:15:46.97 You're an Israelite and you're living there on the Sinai desert 00:15:47.00\00:15:50.92 or somewhere in the wilderness, or perhaps later at the time 00:15:50.95\00:15:53.99 of one of the two temples that had been constructed, 00:15:54.02\00:15:57.31 and you've committed a sin and you know it. 00:15:57.34\00:16:00.43 Your job was to go get a lamb. A what? A lamb. 00:16:00.46\00:16:05.72 There were various offerings and I want to point out 00:16:06.11\00:16:08.69 that we're simplifying this so that we all can get our fingers 00:16:08.72\00:16:10.43 rapped around it. There is more specificity 00:16:10.46\00:16:12.13 but we're going to keep it very simple here. 00:16:12.16\00:16:13.73 So you would go get a lamb and you would bring that lamb 00:16:13.76\00:16:17.26 to the sanctuary. To where? To the sanctuary. 00:16:17.29\00:16:20.77 And you would bring it specifically to the gate 00:16:20.80\00:16:22.78 that entered into the courtyard. 00:16:22.81\00:16:24.64 There a priest would greet you. 00:16:24.67\00:16:26.69 Your job was to take and confess your sins, 00:16:26.72\00:16:31.22 specifically your sin onto the head of that lamb. 00:16:31.44\00:16:34.60 So far so good everyone? Yes or no. 00:16:34.63\00:16:36.52 What would happen then is that you would be handed a knife. 00:16:36.55\00:16:39.64 This must have been the most terrible, difficult part 00:16:39.67\00:16:42.37 of the whole endeavor. You then had to take that knife 00:16:42.40\00:16:46.66 and split the throat of the lamb upon which 00:16:46.69\00:16:49.99 you would just confessed your sin, and the lamb would be there 00:16:50.02\00:16:52.69 writhing in pain as it would die, and as it would die 00:16:52.72\00:16:56.56 blood would come dripping from its neck. 00:16:56.59\00:16:59.70 The priest would then take a bowl, a receptacle, 00:16:59.73\00:17:02.54 hold it under the neck of the lamb and catch some of the blood 00:17:02.57\00:17:06.65 that was flowing out. 00:17:06.68\00:17:08.47 You, as the sinner, guess what you do next. Nothing. 00:17:08.85\00:17:14.03 You walk away. 00:17:14.30\00:17:16.19 You're forgiven. Can you say "Amen"? You're forgiven. 00:17:16.49\00:17:20.79 But guess what? The process of forgiveness has just begun. 00:17:20.83\00:17:25.52 And that's one of the great glories 00:17:25.66\00:17:27.44 of the plan of salvation. 00:17:27.47\00:17:29.25 For us, for the sinner. We kneel down in the evening, we say: 00:17:29.28\00:17:32.33 "Oh Lord, I got angry at my wife.", 00:17:32.36\00:17:34.14 "Today I got angry at my husband.", 00:17:34.17\00:17:35.14 "Today I cut somebody off on traffic.", "Today I wasn't 00:17:35.15\00:17:38.07 totally honest with a workmate.", etc. 00:17:38.10\00:17:39.51 We kneel down, we confess and we get up and say: 00:17:39.54\00:17:41.80 "There it is! Hoo! So glad I got that out!" 00:17:41.83\00:17:44.49 Beloved it's just not that simple from God's perspective. 00:17:44.52\00:17:48.55 That's what the sanctuary helps us to see 00:17:48.58\00:17:50.63 is that from God's perspective sin is sticky business. 00:17:50.66\00:17:55.05 Sin is what? The supreme object of God's love is sinners 00:17:55.21\00:18:02.09 but the supreme object of God's hatred is sin 00:18:02.34\00:18:05.64 and God has to perform this very difficult operation 00:18:05.67\00:18:08.88 where He separates the supreme object of His love 00:18:08.91\00:18:10.82 from the supreme object of His hatred. He has to separate them 00:18:10.85\00:18:14.35 and still keep us alive and intact. 00:18:14.38\00:18:17.93 The sanctuary is a picture of how difficult it is 00:18:18.17\00:18:21.97 to deal with this thing called sin. You would have confessed 00:18:22.00\00:18:24.53 your sin there, onto the lamb. The lamb was then slain, 00:18:24.56\00:18:27.41 the blood was caught, and then the priest would go 00:18:27.44\00:18:29.99 into the holy place. Into the where? The holy place. 00:18:30.02\00:18:34.84 And he would take some of that blood and he would put it 00:18:35.17\00:18:37.30 onto the horns, these 4 horns, that came up off of the altar 00:18:37.33\00:18:41.99 of incense. 00:18:42.02\00:18:42.99 Thus signifying that that guilt had gone from you to the lamb, 00:18:43.30\00:18:50.12 to the blood, to the sanctuary. Does that make sense? 00:18:50.59\00:18:55.11 Let's say that again. So who did the guilt go from? 00:18:55.37\00:18:58.64 From you to the lamb, to the blood, to the sanctuary 00:18:58.67\00:19:02.92 and you walk away forgiven but God still has an issue on this 00:19:02.95\00:19:06.53 and namely sin. 00:19:06.56\00:19:08.83 It's important to recognize that God could not have just said 00:19:09.05\00:19:12.95 to Adam and Eve in the garden: "Well, you made a mistake, 00:19:12.98\00:19:15.40 I really wish you hadn't done that but you know, 00:19:15.43\00:19:17.68 here is the sin, we'll just lift up the old rug 00:19:17.71\00:19:18.85 of the Universe, sweep it under there and let's try again." 00:19:18.88\00:19:23.40 When Adam and Eve sinned, and whenever you and I sin, 00:19:23.43\00:19:26.98 it is though something tangible, something palpable 00:19:27.01\00:19:29.66 comes into existence that God has to deal with. 00:19:29.69\00:19:33.40 It's a little bit like this radioactive material 00:19:33.43\00:19:37.13 that's created as a buy product of all these nuclear reactions 00:19:37.16\00:19:40.21 and nuclear energies. That stuff is created 00:19:40.24\00:19:42.56 and it has to be dealt with so do with sin. 00:19:42.59\00:19:45.77 Something kind of comes into existence in a very real, 00:19:45.80\00:19:49.48 substantive way, and what God is saying here is that: 00:19:49.51\00:19:52.83 "Sure for you, you're forgiven, you walk away, you're cleansed, 00:19:52.86\00:19:56.88 you are righteous in my sight now because of the slain lamb 00:19:56.91\00:20:00.29 but that doesn't make the sin go away. 00:20:00.32\00:20:02.20 The sin has to be dealt with." 00:20:02.23\00:20:03.20 Are we all in the same page everyone? 00:20:03.21\00:20:05.63 The other day, my little boy Jabe, and my youngest boy 00:20:05.66\00:20:08.51 decided to run around the house with a marker because 00:20:08.55\00:20:11.36 he couldn't find any paper and now I have 00:20:11.40\00:20:13.93 a chair and the floor, the fire place 00:20:13.97\00:20:16.47 and the windowsill covered with my boy's marker art. 00:20:17.46\00:20:21.92 And you say "Oh, that's so cute." It's cutish. 00:20:22.20\00:20:24.77 Let's just put it that way. Cutish. 00:20:24.80\00:20:27.96 I can reprimand my boy and I can spank my boy and I can say: 00:20:28.19\00:20:31.64 "Jabe, we don't do those things, there is a place for drawing." 00:20:31.67\00:20:34.82 But at the end of the day, after he's received his punishment, 00:20:34.85\00:20:38.42 and he's running back around the house, 00:20:38.45\00:20:39.95 playing like a little schoolchild, guess what? 00:20:39.98\00:20:42.45 There's still a marker all over my house. 00:20:42.48\00:20:45.37 Still something to be dealt with even after the punishment 00:20:45.40\00:20:49.85 has been administered, and even after he's off the hook 00:20:49.88\00:20:54.10 so to he'd sin. Are we all clear? 00:20:54.13\00:20:56.06 You would confess your sins, this was the daily service. 00:20:56.09\00:20:58.81 This was happening 359 days out of the Hebrew calendar year. 00:20:58.84\00:21:02.80 There were 360 days in a Hebrew calendar year and so 359 days 00:21:02.83\00:21:05.78 Israelites...and if you've read the Old Testament you know 00:21:05.81\00:21:07.64 the Israelites were very good sinners, isn't that true? 00:21:07.67\00:21:10.31 Almost as good as us. 00:21:10.34\00:21:12.69 That sin was going into the Sanctuary. So far so good? 00:21:13.13\00:21:20.13 Which necessitated the yearly service. 00:21:20.47\00:21:26.04 Before I get to the yearly service let me says this: 00:21:26.32\00:21:31.19 John the Baptist when he saw Jesus he said 00:21:31.42\00:21:34.12 "Behold the lamb of God 00:21:34.15\00:21:35.76 that takes away the sin of the world." 00:21:35.79\00:21:38.02 The reason that that made sense, "Behold the lamb of God", 00:21:38.05\00:21:41.20 was that the Jews understood exactly was he was saying. 00:21:41.23\00:21:44.36 Oh, so He is the one to whom all of those lambs pointed. 00:21:44.39\00:21:49.06 Look at Hebrews chapter 10 verse 4. 00:21:49.39\00:21:55.91 It says: "Fot it is not possible that the blood of bulls 00:21:56.24\00:22:03.23 and goats should take away sin." It's not possible. 00:22:03.51\00:22:09.43 Look at verse 11: "And every priest stands ministering daily 00:22:09.64\00:22:13.73 and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices which can never 00:22:13.76\00:22:18.41 take away sin." 00:22:18.44\00:22:19.97 Do you see that? Yes or no? 00:22:20.21\00:22:22.51 These lambs that were slain, the various animals that were slain 00:22:22.62\00:22:26.73 in the Old Testament sanctuary service, did that blood ever 00:22:26.76\00:22:29.67 take away actual sin? No. 00:22:29.70\00:22:31.91 The significance of those sacrifices was that they pointed 00:22:32.17\00:22:36.60 forward to Jesus' sacrifice which could take away sin 00:22:36.63\00:22:41.97 as the altar of Hebrews says once and for all. 00:22:42.20\00:22:45.92 And that's really the author of Hebrews point. 00:22:45.95\00:22:47.81 He says basically I'll prove to you, because there were many 00:22:47.84\00:22:50.63 Jewish Christians that were sliding back 00:22:50.66\00:22:51.94 to these old sacrifices and he's saying "Hey, it doesn't work. 00:22:51.97\00:22:57.14 It's only as a reference or a pointing forward 00:22:57.43\00:23:00.44 to the sacrifice of Jesus.", and he says "I'll prove you 00:23:00.47\00:23:02.90 that it doesn't work." 00:23:02.93\00:23:03.90 They have to do it over and over and over again. 00:23:03.91\00:23:07.50 He says "If it's not working why do they have to keep doing it?" 00:23:07.53\00:23:10.29 Does that make sense? 00:23:10.32\00:23:11.67 All of those sacrifices pointed forward to Jesus, 00:23:11.70\00:23:13.92 and when John says "Behold the lamb of God that takes away 00:23:13.95\00:23:16.81 the sin of the world." What he's saying is "Here is the one 00:23:16.84\00:23:19.85 to whom all of those sacrifices pointed." Amen? Amen! 00:23:19.88\00:23:24.35 That's incidentally why you and I don't bring lambs 00:23:25.06\00:23:26.23 to church today. 00:23:26.26\00:23:27.84 There is a sacrifice that has fully met 00:23:28.76\00:23:31.54 all of the just requirements of a Holy God, and that sacrifice 00:23:31.57\00:23:35.23 was in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen? 00:23:35.26\00:23:37.08 It's totally useless now to offer those various sacrifices. 00:23:37.11\00:23:41.12 Because God has been totally satisfied, His justice 00:23:41.15\00:23:45.44 has been satisfied with the sacrifice of true lamb of God, 00:23:45.72\00:23:50.24 Jesus Christ. Amen? Amen! 00:23:50.27\00:23:52.26 We move to the yearly service. 00:23:52.51\00:23:55.66 You have the daily service. Day after day the sin's going 00:23:55.91\00:23:59.74 from the sinner to the lamb, to the blood, to the sanctuary. 00:23:59.77\00:24:02.75 So into the sanctuary. 00:24:02.78\00:24:05.75 At the end of the year you've got to clean the sanctuary up. 00:24:06.00\00:24:10.67 Just like I have to go clean up that marker that my boy has done 00:24:10.70\00:24:13.21 all around my house. 00:24:13.24\00:24:14.75 What happens here is that the high priest...Who? 00:24:14.78\00:24:19.36 The high priest would go alone into the most holy place 00:24:19.61\00:24:27.15 with the blood of a goat that had been killed. 00:24:27.40\00:24:31.75 We don't have the time to go into all of the details 00:24:31.97\00:24:34.14 but you can read it in Leviticus chapter 16. 00:24:34.17\00:24:36.60 I'll give it to you in a brief overview here. 00:24:36.63\00:24:39.11 It's Leviticus chapter 16. 00:24:39.14\00:24:40.42 The high priest would go in with this blood and he would take 00:24:40.45\00:24:44.15 this blood and he would apply it to the mercy seat 00:24:44.18\00:24:47.15 of the ark of the covenant. 00:24:47.18\00:24:48.33 That is to say the cover of the ark of the covenant 00:24:48.36\00:24:51.90 where the two cherubim were, and that bright, shining light, 00:24:51.93\00:24:55.56 the Shekinah glory, and he would apply that blood there 00:24:55.59\00:24:58.99 as a symbol of the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:24:59.02\00:25:03.18 on the day of atonement. Which means this is the day 00:25:03.44\00:25:07.94 that the sin has been going in and now the sin 00:25:08.26\00:25:12.16 is going to go out and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus 00:25:12.28\00:25:17.16 or what pointed forward to the blood of Jesus. 00:25:17.46\00:25:19.97 So far so good everyone? 00:25:20.00\00:25:21.97 That was called the day of atonement 00:25:22.21\00:25:23.84 because this was the day when Israel would once again 00:25:23.87\00:25:27.43 be clean, be cleansed ceremonially, ritually 00:25:27.46\00:25:31.66 in the sight of God, and God would be at one with His people. 00:25:31.89\00:25:37.68 If that makes sense say "Amen". 00:25:37.95\00:25:39.97 The daily service-sin is going in, the yearly service-sin is 00:25:40.00\00:25:43.64 going out and the sanctuary is cleansed. 00:25:43.67\00:25:47.21 Go back to Hebrews chapter 9, verse 6 00:25:47.44\00:25:52.21 This verse should make much better sense now. 00:25:52.46\00:25:57.05 It says: "Now when these things had thus been prepared 00:25:57.28\00:26:00.22 the priests went always into the first part of the tabernacle 00:26:00.25\00:26:04.41 performing the service." Verse 7 "But into the second part..." 00:26:04.44\00:26:08.97 Who went? And how did he go? Alone. How often? Once a year. 00:26:09.00\00:26:13.90 And what did he have? Which he offered for who? "For himself 00:26:14.15\00:26:18.80 and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance. Verse 8: 00:26:18.83\00:26:21.92 "the Holy Spirit indicating that this was the way 00:26:21.95\00:26:23.58 into the holiest of all which was not yet made manifest 00:26:23.61\00:26:26.36 while the first tabernacle was standing." This is a reference 00:26:26.39\00:26:31.03 to Moses' tabernacle. 00:26:31.06\00:26:33.11 Very fascinating here to note something. 00:26:33.41\00:26:35.70 Jesus was not only the lamb, Jesus was the high priest. 00:26:35.73\00:26:41.69 That's why we say that the whole sanctuary points to Jesus 00:26:41.93\00:26:45.15 and to the salvation offered to us in Jesus Christ. Amen? 00:26:45.18\00:26:47.42 Very powerful. 00:26:47.45\00:26:48.55 Once again, I just want to underscore here 00:26:48.58\00:26:50.66 God was not just giving them something to keep them busy 00:26:50.69\00:26:53.48 in the wilderness. He wasn't saying "What I'm I going to do 00:26:53.51\00:26:56.31 with all these people. I've got to keep them busy, 00:26:56.34\00:26:57.71 I've got to keep them out of trouble, I've got to keep them 00:26:57.74\00:26:58.71 off the streets." No. 00:26:58.72\00:27:00.15 He was trying to show them salvation and how it works. 00:27:00.18\00:27:05.45 Here is Christ and He is the lamb. 00:27:05.68\00:27:08.59 In fact you've got Christ all over the sanctuary. 00:27:08.67\00:27:10.98 Christ is the bread and the Holy Spirit is the seven branched 00:27:11.01\00:27:15.23 candlestick that's constantly burning, 00:27:15.26\00:27:16.60 the prayers of the saints, the incense wafting up over 00:27:16.63\00:27:18.99 in the most holy place. You have the cherubim there 00:27:19.02\00:27:21.54 and the throne of God, the ten commandments. 00:27:21.57\00:27:24.01 It's all about Jesus Christ. Very powerful. 00:27:24.04\00:27:28.41 Jesus, our high priest, entered into the true tabernacle 00:27:28.67\00:27:33.17 which the Lord pitched and not man. 00:27:33.26\00:27:34.75 Didn't we read that already? That's in chapter 8, verse1. 00:27:34.78\00:27:42.91 This is the main point, we've already read this 00:27:43.19\00:27:45.79 but it should register now. 00:27:45.82\00:27:46.79 This is the main point of the things that we were saying: 00:27:46.80\00:27:49.42 "We have a high priest who is seated at the right hand 00:27:49.45\00:27:52.27 of the throne of the majesty in heavens, the Minister 00:27:52.30\00:27:55.48 of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle 00:27:55.51\00:27:58.50 which the Lord erected and not man." 00:27:58.53\00:28:01.34 Jesus entered into heaven itself as our great, high priest 00:28:01.37\00:28:06.85 ministering in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:28:07.10\00:28:09.22 and that is one of the great themes 00:28:09.25\00:28:11.27 of the whole book of Hebrews. 00:28:11.30\00:28:12.94 What was happening was many Jewish Christians 00:28:12.97\00:28:14.79 were backsliding into the old system, they were backsliding 00:28:14.82\00:28:18.16 and going back to the old offerings. 00:28:18.19\00:28:20.18 The author of Hebrews, who I believe to be Paul, 00:28:20.21\00:28:22.57 basically was writing to them saying "No. They had a covenant 00:28:22.60\00:28:25.62 we have a better covenant, they have a temple 00:28:25.65\00:28:27.57 we have a better temple, they had a high priest we have 00:28:27.60\00:28:29.65 a better high priest, they had a sacrifice we have 00:28:29.68\00:28:31.33 a better sacrifice. It's all about Jesus. There's no point 00:28:31.36\00:28:34.73 to be going backwards, we should be going forwards 00:28:34.76\00:28:36.99 with the Lord. 00:28:37.02\00:28:38.97 Three compartments. Those three compartments were not arbitrary, 00:28:39.89\00:28:45.03 they foreshadowed the three fold ministry of Jesus 00:28:45.32\00:28:49.49 as lamb, as intercessor and as carrying out judgment. 00:28:49.96\00:28:55.48 Very important to notice that. 00:28:55.86\00:28:58.11 In fact, if you wanted to divide this up write this right there 00:28:58.14\00:29:01.24 on your little outline. 00:29:01.27\00:29:03.11 The plan of salvation, 00:29:03.25\00:29:04.33 as depicted in the sanctuary service, 00:29:04.36\00:29:05.96 delivers us from the three fold power of sin. 00:29:05.99\00:29:09.34 Sin has a three fold power on your life and on my life 00:29:09.37\00:29:12.76 before we come to the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:29:12.79\00:29:14.70 When Jesus Christ died on the cross, that was the equivalent 00:29:14.73\00:29:17.48 of dying in the courtyard. 00:29:17.51\00:29:19.32 He was the lamb that was slain in the courtyard. Where? 00:29:19.35\00:29:23.15 When Jesus Christ died on the cross He delivers us 00:29:23.18\00:29:25.64 from the penalty of sin 00:29:25.67\00:29:27.22 because He paid the penalty on the cross. 00:29:27.25\00:29:28.71 Can you say "Amen"? 00:29:28.74\00:29:30.10 The wages of sin is death and Jesus died our death 00:29:30.13\00:29:32.94 so that we can live His life. 00:29:32.97\00:29:35.72 In the second compartment of the sanctuary power is given. 00:29:36.17\00:29:40.65 We say "power" because you have there on the left 00:29:40.68\00:29:43.25 the 7 branched candlestick, representing the Holy Spirit. 00:29:43.28\00:29:45.99 It was always burning that marvelous flame. 00:29:46.02\00:29:48.03 On the right you have the bread. 00:29:48.06\00:29:49.90 The bread symbolizing Jesus and particularly the Bible. 00:29:49.93\00:29:54.95 Isn't that what Jesus said in John chapter 6 and 7? 00:29:55.20\00:29:57.82 He said "I am the bread of life." 00:29:57.85\00:30:01.90 You have this analogy of Jesus as the bread, 00:30:02.22\00:30:04.59 and the word is the bread, and so we have the Holy Spirit 00:30:04.62\00:30:06.84 on the left, we have the Bible on the right, the bread of life, 00:30:06.87\00:30:10.08 and then we have the altar of incense representing the prayers 00:30:10.11\00:30:13.11 of the saints, the Bible says. 00:30:13.14\00:30:14.73 And so with prayer and the Spirit and Bible study 00:30:14.76\00:30:18.31 we have power over sin in our lives. Amen? 00:30:18.34\00:30:20.85 Watching Must See TV does not get you power 00:30:20.88\00:30:23.10 over sin in your life. 00:30:23.13\00:30:24.78 But prayer and Bible study and spending time in ministry 00:30:24.81\00:30:29.09 and with the Holy Spirit, that does get you power in your life 00:30:29.12\00:30:31.43 over sin. 00:30:31.46\00:30:32.43 The cross gets us victory over the penalty of sin, 00:30:32.68\00:30:34.85 the wages of sin is death. 00:30:34.88\00:30:36.68 The holy place gives us the power to overcome sin. 00:30:36.71\00:30:39.69 But even if we have victory over sin in our lives, 00:30:39.72\00:30:42.30 and I want to prays the Lord Jesus Christ 00:30:42.33\00:30:44.10 that He can get victory. Can you say "Amen"? 00:30:44.13\00:30:46.55 Prays His Holy Name! He doesn't just say to the alcoholic 00:30:46.58\00:30:50.07 "IYou're forgiven." He gives the alcoholic power 00:30:50.10\00:30:51.41 to stop being an alcoholic. Amen? 00:30:51.44\00:30:53.41 He doesn't just say to the abuser "I forgive you.", 00:30:53.44\00:30:55.54 He says "I'll give you the power to be kind, to be gracious 00:30:55.57\00:30:58.84 to your spouse or whoever you're abusing." 00:30:58.87\00:31:00.75 God promises victory not just forgiveness. Amen? 00:31:00.78\00:31:04.97 What good would that be to bring only forgiveness 00:31:05.24\00:31:07.76 and not victory? 00:31:07.79\00:31:09.31 When our heart is transformed, when our life is changed 00:31:09.64\00:31:12.97 we don't want to continue to wallow in the vomit of sin. 00:31:13.00\00:31:15.54 We don't want to continue to wallow in the manure of sin. 00:31:15.57\00:31:18.43 We want out! 00:31:18.46\00:31:20.04 This is way it says in Mathew chapter 1, verse 21 that 00:31:20.33\00:31:23.04 they will call His name Jesus, for He will save His people 00:31:23.07\00:31:26.06 from their sins. 00:31:26.09\00:31:27.91 It doesn't say that He will just save them from the penalty 00:31:28.18\00:31:30.13 of their sins, but that He will save them from the sin itself. 00:31:30.16\00:31:34.82 Are we all together? 00:31:34.85\00:31:36.49 Even if we have victory over the power of sin into certain areas 00:31:36.59\00:31:40.48 of our lives, we still live in a sinful world. 00:31:40.51\00:31:44.30 We are still surrounded by the presence of sin. 00:31:44.33\00:31:47.00 Are we all together on that? 00:31:47.03\00:31:48.64 On the day of atonement it symbolizes that final judgment 00:31:48.67\00:31:52.02 when sin was wiped out of the sanctuary 00:31:52.05\00:31:54.59 and all of God's people were clean, the sanctuary was clean, 00:31:54.62\00:31:57.79 God of course has always been clean, 00:31:57.82\00:31:59.38 and now God and His people are at one with one another. 00:31:59.41\00:32:04.50 The cross from the penalty, the intersession of Jesus 00:32:04.75\00:32:07.22 and the holy place from the power and His judgment ministry 00:32:07.25\00:32:10.97 and the most holy place of the sanctuary 00:32:11.00\00:32:13.06 from the very presence of sin. Can you say "Amen"? 00:32:13.09\00:32:15.84 Very powerful! I wish I had more time to go into that 00:32:15.87\00:32:17.98 but I just don't. 00:32:18.01\00:32:19.30 Turn the page there in your study guide. 00:32:19.33\00:32:21.60 The key that unlocks the judgment is found 00:32:21.63\00:32:23.68 in the Israelite sanctuary. 00:32:23.71\00:32:25.24 The cleansing of the sanctuary was a day of judgment 00:32:25.27\00:32:27.66 which symbolizes the final judgment. 00:32:27.69\00:32:30.26 Think of it this way. 00:32:30.29\00:32:31.56 Your sin could not be taken out of the sanctuary 00:32:31.59\00:32:35.56 if it had never gone in. Does that make sense? 00:32:35.67\00:32:39.54 The only sins that were cleansed on the day of atonement 00:32:39.87\00:32:47.04 were the ones that have been confessed 00:32:47.30\00:32:48.93 in one of the other 359 days of the year and had gone in. 00:32:48.96\00:32:52.44 Does that make sense? 00:32:52.47\00:32:53.80 If you have been rebellious against God and you said 00:32:53.83\00:32:55.56 "Well, this all sanctuary - shmanctuary thing." 00:32:55.59\00:32:58.35 At the end of the year when God is at one with His people 00:32:58.38\00:33:01.21 the Bible says "You are cut off." 00:33:01.24\00:33:04.00 Symbolizing the final judgment. 00:33:04.18\00:33:05.69 That's why the people in the Old Testament, the Israelites, 00:33:05.72\00:33:08.44 where outside of that sanctuary while the high priest 00:33:08.47\00:33:10.82 was in the very presence of God. 00:33:10.85\00:33:14.04 We are told that in the garment that the high priest wore 00:33:14.31\00:33:18.21 there were little pomegranate bells around the hem 00:33:18.24\00:33:19.97 of his garment so that they could hear him moving around 00:33:20.00\00:33:22.85 doing his various things, 00:33:22.88\00:33:24.25 because he was going into the presence of God, 00:33:24.28\00:33:27.45 between the cherubim, and it said that if he had 00:33:27.48\00:33:29.79 any unconfessed sin in his own life he'd die on the spot. 00:33:29.82\00:33:34.57 and they'd tie a rope around his leg. 00:33:34.66\00:33:36.76 They'd drag him out because you couldn't go in there. 00:33:36.79\00:33:41.04 Only the high priest could go in there because only Jesus 00:33:41.07\00:33:44.23 can go into the presence of God on our behalf, 00:33:44.26\00:33:46.82 as pointing forward to that. 00:33:46.85\00:33:48.32 This was serious stuff. 00:33:48.35\00:33:51.83 This wasn't religious games. This was serious stuff. 00:33:52.10\00:33:55.17 It symbolized the day of judgment because nothing 00:33:55.20\00:33:57.10 could come out of there that hadn't first gone into there. 00:33:57.13\00:34:01.21 We go to the back page. 00:34:01.24\00:34:03.19 The imagery ceremonies and drama of the heavenly sanctuary 00:34:03.40\00:34:07.16 pointed to Jesus. In fact Jesus was the very heart 00:34:07.19\00:34:11.99 of this sanctuary. 00:34:12.28\00:34:13.75 Jump down to the three compartments 00:34:13.78\00:34:15.64 and the three phases. 00:34:15.67\00:34:16.79 The altar represented the cross. 00:34:16.82\00:34:20.06 The holy place represents the intersession, 00:34:20.09\00:34:23.53 the mediation of Jesus. 00:34:23.58\00:34:25.93 Most holy place-judgment. 00:34:26.16\00:34:29.94 You have deliverance from the penalty, 00:34:30.24\00:34:34.63 deliverance from the power and deliverance from the presence. 00:34:34.87\00:34:38.68 Let's say it together: have deliverance from the penalty 00:34:38.71\00:34:42.14 and the power and the presence. Excellent! 00:34:42.17\00:34:49.21 Let's go to our next study guide. 00:34:49.51\00:34:52.35 Let's pick it up. We're going to jump to the second page. 00:34:52.41\00:35:00.17 Second study guide. Here we go. 00:35:00.45\00:35:03.88 I'll put this up again tomorrow but I want you to see 00:35:04.17\00:35:08.66 how these visions lay right beside one another 00:35:08.76\00:35:11.96 in very beautiful systematic fashion. 00:35:11.99\00:35:16.07 Daniel chapter 2. Babylon, Medopersia, Greece, Rome, 00:35:16.32\00:35:19.68 and the second coming. 00:35:19.71\00:35:21.46 Head of gold, chest and arms of silver, 00:35:21.49\00:35:22.98 belly and thighs of bronze, long legs of iron and then divided 00:35:23.01\00:35:26.56 Rome down at the bottom and the stone would strike 00:35:26.59\00:35:28.59 the image and the whole thing would smash to smithereens. 00:35:28.62\00:35:30.90 That stone grows and becomes a great mountain. 00:35:30.93\00:35:33.76 In Daniel 7 we review and enlarge, remember? 00:35:33.79\00:35:37.79 We see the Babylon beast which is the lion with eagle's wings 00:35:38.01\00:35:40.64 followed by Medopersia represented by the bear 00:35:40.67\00:35:42.35 that was raised up one side 3 ribs and mouth. 00:35:42.38\00:35:45.55 What would this have to do with the sanctuary? 00:35:45.58\00:35:47.10 You'll see in just a moment. 00:35:47.13\00:35:48.20 Greece was the fore headed leopard, moving very rapidly, 00:35:48.23\00:35:50.42 very fast, then pagan Rome was that beast with 10 horns. 00:35:50.45\00:35:54.89 Out of those 10 horns came a little horn. 00:35:54.92\00:35:57.51 What happened after that? 00:35:57.54\00:35:59.53 We saw that sequence 3 times in Daniel 7: Rome, little horn 00:35:59.59\00:36:05.10 and then judgment. Then we went to Daniel chapter 8. 00:36:05.34\00:36:08.44 We saw a ram. The ram represented Medopersia 00:36:08.47\00:36:12.07 that became great. 00:36:12.27\00:36:14.18 The goat represented Greece, which became very great, 00:36:14.41\00:36:18.42 the Bible says. 00:36:18.45\00:36:19.69 Then there was that little horn representing both the pagan 00:36:19.89\00:36:23.16 and the little horn phases, the Papal phases of Rome. 00:36:23.19\00:36:26.94 It says that it became exceedingly great. 00:36:26.97\00:36:31.51 The ram is great, the goat was very great and the little horn 00:36:31.75\00:36:37.83 was exceedingly great. Some people have tried to say 00:36:38.08\00:36:40.72 the little horn in Daniel 8 is a Seleucid king by the name of 00:36:40.75\00:36:44.95 Antiochus Epiphanies, but it's very hard to reconcile that. 00:36:44.98\00:36:48.23 Antiochus Epiphanes was the man who ruled for 12 years in Syria 00:36:48.26\00:36:52.05 and here you have this progression from great, 00:36:52.08\00:36:54.96 Medopersia, to very great, Greece, to exceedingly great, 00:36:54.99\00:36:58.62 this little horn, and Antiochus was nothing 00:36:58.65\00:37:01.26 compared to Alexander the Great, 00:37:01.29\00:37:03.40 much less the whole Macedonian Empire. 00:37:03.43\00:37:05.94 Whoever this is, it has to be very great 00:37:05.97\00:37:09.03 in the scope of history. Has to be what? Very great! 00:37:09.06\00:37:14.09 We see here exactly what we would expect in Daniel 7. 00:37:14.37\00:37:17.65 Pagan Rome, the little horn, and the next thing that we saw 00:37:17.68\00:37:20.65 in Daniel chapter 8 was the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:37:20.68\00:37:23.72 which corresponds with the judgment, the next thing 00:37:23.75\00:37:27.18 is the second coming. 00:37:27.21\00:37:28.51 You have these prophecies that lay down every time 00:37:28.54\00:37:31.53 God's reviewing and then He's enlarging. 00:37:31.56\00:37:35.03 Go to Daniel chapter 8. We're going to hustle 00:37:35.24\00:37:39.71 but we're going to do it by His grace. 00:37:39.91\00:37:44.69 Daniel chapter 8. I lot of this you can fill in on your own. 00:37:44.91\00:37:52.37 We've already been over quite a bit of this as a matter of fact. 00:37:52.62\00:37:55.70 Jump down to the bottom of page two. 00:37:55.73\00:37:59.31 But first look at Daniel chapter 8. 00:37:59.58\00:38:02.51 Daniel hears this little horn speaking blasphemies words, 00:38:02.55\00:38:06.03 making war against God's people, God's Son. 00:38:06.06\00:38:08.45 I think we have that slide here. 00:38:08.48\00:38:11.67 The little horn attacked God's people, God's Son, 00:38:11.90\00:38:17.00 God's sanctuary, God's truth. 00:38:17.20\00:38:19.65 Remember that transition we saw in Daniel chapter 7? 00:38:19.87\00:38:23.45 It was this predatorial beast, but in Daniel chapter 8 00:38:23.48\00:38:26.33 it switches to a ram and a goat, which were clean beasts, 00:38:26.36\00:38:31.50 sanctuary beasts. 00:38:31.71\00:38:32.68 Immediately the mind is drawn to this sanctuary. 00:38:32.69\00:38:35.52 You have in Daniel chapter 8, verse 14: "And he said to me 00:38:35.55\00:38:41.96 for 2300 days then the sanctuary will be cleansed." 00:38:42.21\00:38:48.70 Daniel basically wanted to know how long is this garbage 00:38:48.93\00:38:52.55 going to go on, this little horn making war 00:38:52.58\00:38:54.77 against God's people, God's Son, 00:38:54.80\00:38:55.77 God's sanctuary, God's truth. 00:38:55.78\00:38:57.07 Then he overhears two angels talking and one says: 00:38:57.10\00:38:59.26 "How long" and the other says "2300 days, then the sanctuary 00:38:59.29\00:39:03.30 will be cleansed." Now you know what it means 00:39:03.33\00:39:05.42 "the sanctuary will be cleansed". 00:39:05.45\00:39:06.62 The final judgment. 00:39:06.65\00:39:07.77 Verse 15: "Then it happened when I, Daniel, had see the vision 00:39:07.80\00:39:12.03 I was seeking the meaning and suddenly there stood before me 00:39:12.06\00:39:14.29 one having the appearance of a man." This is Gabrielle. 00:39:14.32\00:39:16.99 Verse 16: "And I heard a man's voice between the banks 00:39:17.02\00:39:19.90 of the Ulai, who called and said 'Gabrielle, make this man 00:39:19.93\00:39:23.44 understand the vision.'" Look at that word "understand". 00:39:23.47\00:39:27.63 Verse 17: "So it came near where I stood and when he came 00:39:27.66\00:39:31.01 I was afraid and I fell on my face and he said to me 00:39:31.04\00:39:34.22 'Understand son of man, for your vision refers to the time 00:39:34.25\00:39:37.43 of the end'. The vision refers to when? Time of the end. 00:39:37.46\00:39:41.20 Did Daniel understand the vision? No. 00:39:41.23\00:39:43.84 Gabrielle comes to explain it to him in two times: 00:39:43.87\00:39:46.45 "I want you to understand, I want you to understand." 00:39:46.48\00:39:49.95 He tries to explain but Daniel ends up fainting. Verse 26. 00:39:49.98\00:39:54.93 Gabrielle speaking: "And the vision of the evenings and 00:39:55.29\00:39:58.21 the mornings thus the 2300 days, which was told is true 00:39:58.24\00:40:02.66 therefore seal the vision for it belongs to 00:40:02.69\00:40:05.63 many days in the future." Look at verse 27. 00:40:05.66\00:40:07.78 "And I, Daniel, fainted and I was sick for days, after I arose 00:40:07.81\00:40:13.27 and was about the king's business, I was astonished 00:40:13.48\00:40:15.37 by the vision, but no one understood it." 00:40:15.40\00:40:17.89 Did Daniel understand it? No. 00:40:17.92\00:40:20.24 Here is what happens. Then we transition to Daniel chapter 9. 00:40:20.35\00:40:25.17 At the bottom of the study guide, page 2. 00:40:25.20\00:40:28.51 "Putting the pieces together", Daniel 9, 00:40:28.54\00:40:30.00 in the explanation of the vision. Are we all there? 00:40:30.03\00:40:33.57 In Daniel 9 we find Daniel seeking to understand 00:40:33.60\00:40:37.30 the troubling vision of Daniel 8. 00:40:37.33\00:40:40.00 He seeks the Lord in prayer and supplication. 00:40:40.03\00:40:42.43 Verse 4 to 19 record one of the most powerful 00:40:42.46\00:40:45.06 and beautiful prayers in all over the Bible. 00:40:45.09\00:40:47.00 In the middle of the prayer the angel Gabrielle comes 00:40:47.03\00:40:49.52 to answer Daniel's prayer. 00:40:49.55\00:40:50.98 The answer is found in the form of the angel explaining 00:40:51.01\00:40:53.48 the meaning of the troubling vision of Daniel chapter 8. 00:40:53.51\00:40:56.07 The vision of Daniel had to do with the pompous words 00:40:56.10\00:40:58.82 in the wars of the antichrist, the little horn. 00:40:58.85\00:41:02.06 These words in wars called to session the heavenly court 00:41:02.09\00:41:04.83 for the purpose of judgment and vindication of God's people 00:41:04.86\00:41:07.51 who had been wrongly accused by the Roman church. 00:41:07.54\00:41:10.24 The terrible record of this power is doubly compounded 00:41:10.27\00:41:13.23 by the fact that it carried out all of its persecutions 00:41:13.26\00:41:16.38 and blasphemies in the name of God. Turn the page. 00:41:16.41\00:41:22.86 Here is Daniel. Daniel does not understand the vision 00:41:23.07\00:41:29.12 and he begins to pray. What does he begin to do? Pray. 00:41:29.39\00:41:33.09 "Oh God, I don't understand the vision. I need You" 00:41:33.12\00:41:35.04 to explain it to me." You can see some of that prayer 00:41:35.07\00:41:41.34 beginning in verse one. 00:41:41.57\00:41:43.11 "In the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, 00:41:43.14\00:41:47.02 of Median descent, who was made king 00:41:47.05\00:41:48.43 over the kingdom of the Chaldeans, in the first year 00:41:48.46\00:41:50.71 of his reign, I, Daniel, observed in the books 00:41:50.74\00:41:52.41 the number of the years which was revealed 00:41:52.44\00:41:54.28 as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet 00:41:54.31\00:41:56.24 for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem," 00:41:56.27\00:41:59.12 Jeremiah had said in his scroll that Israel would go 00:41:59.15\00:42:02.34 into captivity, Judah would go into captivity for 70 years. 00:42:02.37\00:42:05.42 Daniel had been into captivity for 70 years at this point 00:42:05.45\00:42:08.78 and so he's seeking, he's doing what you and I should be doing, 00:42:08.81\00:42:10.89 we should study our Bibles, and he says "I understood it." 00:42:10.92\00:42:14.52 Look at verse 3: "So I gave my attention to the Lord God 00:42:14.55\00:42:18.27 to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, 00:42:18.30\00:42:20.25 sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed 00:42:20.28\00:42:23.96 and said, "Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, 00:42:23.99\00:42:25.99 who keeps His covenant and loving kindness 00:42:26.02\00:42:27.90 for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 00:42:27.93\00:42:30.08 we have sinned, committed iniquity, 00:42:30.11\00:42:33.19 acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside 00:42:33.39\00:42:36.44 from Your commandments and ordinances. 00:42:36.47\00:42:38.42 Moreover, we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, 00:42:38.45\00:42:41.09 who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes, 00:42:41.12\00:42:42.91 our fathers and all the people of the land." 00:42:42.94\00:42:44.85 Verse 11: "Indeed all Israel has transgressed Your law" 00:42:44.88\00:42:51.39 And the whole prayer goes down through verse 19. 00:42:51.69\00:42:53.68 It's one of the longest and most beautiful prayers 00:42:53.71\00:42:55.65 in all the Bible. 00:42:55.68\00:42:56.65 Daniel is pouring his heart out to God: "God we blew it. 00:42:56.68\00:43:00.29 We know now why you let the Babylonians come and destroy 00:43:00.32\00:43:02.99 our city and take us here into captivity. 00:43:03.02\00:43:05.04 It's because we disobeyed You, we broke Your covenant. 00:43:05.07\00:43:08.07 Oh God, have mercy on us. In Jeremiah you said 00:43:08.10\00:43:10.27 it would only last for 70 years, the 70 years is almost done. 00:43:10.30\00:43:12.92 I'm an old man now, I came here as a boy. 00:43:12.95\00:43:16.18 Please!" 00:43:16.21\00:43:17.32 At the end of that prayer guess who comes back? 00:43:17.58\00:43:21.21 Gabrielle comes back. Look at verse 20. 00:43:21.24\00:43:23.53 "Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin 00:43:23.56\00:43:27.38 and the sin of my people Israel, 00:43:27.41\00:43:29.77 and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God 00:43:29.80\00:43:32.70 in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, 00:43:32.73\00:43:34.06 while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man Gabrielle, 00:43:34.09\00:43:37.67 whom I had seen in the vision previously, 00:43:37.70\00:43:39.76 came to me in my extreme weariness 00:43:39.79\00:43:41.39 about the time of the evening offering." 00:43:41.42\00:43:43.32 Verse 22 and notice the first thing that Gabrielle says: 00:43:43.35\00:43:48.13 "O Daniel, I have now come forth 00:43:48.44\00:43:50.74 to give you insight with understanding." Exactly! 00:43:50.77\00:43:55.02 That's what we'd expect. 00:43:55.26\00:43:56.61 Because we end Daniel. Does he understand? 00:43:56.64\00:43:59.47 No, he doesn't understand but does he want to understand? 00:43:59.50\00:44:01.72 He is pouring his heart out to God and Gabrielle shows up 00:44:01.75\00:44:04.16 and the first thing he says is: 00:44:04.19\00:44:05.29 "I've come to help you understand." 00:44:05.32\00:44:08.41 Understand what? The vision that he had just seen 00:44:08.65\00:44:12.00 of these 2300 long years. A day in the Bible prophecy is a year. 00:44:12.03\00:44:16.84 Gabrielle comes and says: "I'm going to help you to get it 00:44:16.87\00:44:19.15 and don't faint this time." 00:44:19.18\00:44:21.41 You're still there in your study guide. 00:44:21.67\00:44:26.23 Can you keep up with me? 00:44:26.92\00:44:28.96 We're on page 3. You're doing a great job. 00:44:29.12\00:44:31.39 Take a breath. Here we go. 00:44:31.42\00:44:33.44 Top of page 3. You're getting it, I can tell that. 00:44:33.47\00:44:37.40 It is imperative to remember that a day 00:44:37.43\00:44:40.35 in end time Bible prophecy represents a year 00:44:40.38\00:44:43.80 of actual literal time. 00:44:43.83\00:44:44.85 Not only are beasts, horns, women, water symbolic, 00:44:44.88\00:44:48.56 so is time in time prophecy. 00:44:48.59\00:44:50.49 As we learned last lesson the vision of Daniel 8, 00:44:50.52\00:44:52.65 the 2300 days extends all the way down to the distant future, 00:44:52.68\00:44:56.76 according to the NIV Version Daniel 8,26. 00:44:56.79\00:44:59.40 As the angel returned to explain the 2300 days vision 00:44:59.43\00:45:02.92 he begins by telling Daniel of another time period. 00:45:02.95\00:45:06.80 This period would last 70 prophetic weeks 00:45:06.83\00:45:11.28 or 490 prophetic days. 00:45:11.49\00:45:14.41 70 prophetic weeks or 490 prophetic days. 00:45:14.65\00:45:19.36 How did we get 490? 70 times 7. So far so good. 00:45:19.66\00:45:24.42 You're getting it. 00:45:24.78\00:45:26.28 According to the angel Gabrielle this was a time period 00:45:26.31\00:45:28.86 specifically eluded to the Jewish nation. 00:45:28.89\00:45:32.45 Let's go back to the Bible. 00:45:32.78\00:45:34.84 I want you to see this. Verse 23, Daniel 9,23. 00:45:34.87\00:45:38.37 We're going to get this by the grace of God. 00:45:38.40\00:45:41.35 "As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, 00:45:41.38\00:45:45.56 which I have come to tell you," 00:45:45.59\00:45:47.27 Gabrielle speaking to Daniel, 00:45:47.30\00:45:49.22 for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the message 00:45:49.25\00:45:52.88 and understand the vision." Two time he says it. 00:45:52.91\00:45:55.35 "Understand it, understand it. I really want you to." 00:45:55.38\00:45:58.95 Here is the explanation, verse 24. 00:45:58.98\00:46:01.00 First words out of Gabrielle's mouth 00:46:01.03\00:46:02.96 when it comes to the actual explanation. Verse 24. 00:46:02.99\00:46:06.83 "Seventy weeks are determined for your people 00:46:06.86\00:46:10.44 and your holy city." How many weeks? 00:46:10.63\00:46:13.45 70, are determined for who? your people and your holy city." 00:46:13.48\00:46:18.24 Who's Daniel people? Israel. 00:46:18.27\00:46:21.31 Wasn't he crying out and saying "Oh, Israel has sinned." 00:46:21.56\00:46:24.14 Gabrielle shows up and says: 00:46:24.17\00:46:25.74 "Seventy weeks are for your people and your city." 00:46:25.77\00:46:29.32 What city would that be? Jerusalem. 00:46:29.35\00:46:32.21 Let's go to our guide. 00:46:32.47\00:46:34.69 The angel Gabrielle returns, he begins by telling Daniel 00:46:34.93\00:46:37.37 of another time period, a period of 70 prophetic weeks. 00:46:37.40\00:46:40.92 This time period is the key to understanding the 2300 days. 00:46:40.95\00:46:44.66 You say "How do you know that?" 00:46:44.69\00:46:46.54 It's a piece of cake. 00:46:46.57\00:46:49.53 he's asking for understanding, Gabrielle comes back and says 00:46:49.81\00:46:52.25 "I'm going to help you to understand. Sit down Daniel, 00:46:52.28\00:46:54.59 put your schoolboys cap on, I'm going to help you understand 00:46:54.62\00:46:57.22 this vision." And the first thing he says is: 00:46:57.25\00:46:58.34 "Seventy weeks of this are for your people." So far so good? 00:46:58.37\00:47:02.62 Pretty simple really. 00:47:02.65\00:47:03.96 "Seventy weeks are determined for your people." 00:47:03.99\00:47:05.69 There is a list of 6 things here, 00:47:05.72\00:47:07.02 you can write them all down later. There're all in verse 24. 00:47:07.05\00:47:09.85 Everyone of these comes from verse 24. 00:47:09.88\00:47:11.74 It says: "Seventy weeks are determined for your people" 00:47:11.77\00:47:15.03 I'll come right back to that slide. 00:47:15.06\00:47:17.25 You've got 6 things needed to be accomplished 00:47:17.28\00:47:19.62 during these 70 weeks and there're all in verse 24. 00:47:19.65\00:47:22.51 Seventy weeks are determined for your people, number one: 00:47:22.54\00:47:25.44 to finish the transgression, number 2: to make an end sins, 00:47:25.47\00:47:27.65 number 3: to make reconciliation for iniquity, 00:47:27.68\00:47:29.93 number 4: to bring in everlasting righteousness, 00:47:29.96\00:47:32.13 number 5: to seal up the vision and prophecy, 00:47:32.16\00:47:34.01 number 6: to anoint the Most Holy. 00:47:34.04\00:47:36.63 All of them right there you can write them in. 00:47:36.66\00:47:39.42 Everyone of them comes from verse 24. 00:47:39.45\00:47:41.64 So far, does the vision make sense? 00:47:41.67\00:47:44.02 Gabrielle basically shows up, says: 00:47:44.05\00:47:45.75 "I've come to explain the 2300 days. Seventy weeks are cut off 00:47:45.78\00:47:50.10 for your people." 00:47:50.13\00:47:51.37 Seventy weeks are cut off for the Jews, 00:47:51.40\00:47:53.30 in which period of time 6 things have to happen. 00:47:53.33\00:47:57.19 How many things? 00:47:57.22\00:47:59.20 By the way, you know for a fact that a day in Bible prophecy 00:47:59.45\00:48:02.78 equals a year. 00:48:02.81\00:48:04.24 Because 70 weeks would be 00:48:04.45\00:48:06.51 not even a year and a half in real time. 00:48:06.59\00:48:10.02 52 days in a year? So 70 weeks is a year and a half. 00:48:10.25\00:48:14.03 Can all of that happen in a year and a half? No. 00:48:14.06\00:48:16.69 In fact will see that in just a moment. 00:48:16.72\00:48:18.17 The prophecy itself demands that we're talking a day for a year. 00:48:18.20\00:48:23.51 A day for a what? A year. 00:48:23.78\00:48:25.32 From Daniel's perspective, he's already been in captivity 00:48:25.35\00:48:28.74 for almost 70 years. 00:48:28.77\00:48:29.74 If Gabrielle shows up and says "Ohoo, only 70 weeks to go!" 00:48:29.75\00:48:33.97 This would have been cause for celebration not for concern. 00:48:34.00\00:48:37.39 He says "Seventy weeks are cut off for your people." 00:48:37.42\00:48:39.98 Seventy weeks for Jews, 6 things to accomplish. 00:48:40.01\00:48:43.30 If this makes sense I want you to say "Amen". 00:48:43.33\00:48:46.20 We're still there in our study guide. 00:48:46.23\00:48:48.77 Judgment fall in 70 AD when Jerusalem 00:48:48.80\00:48:52.42 was sack by the Roman army. 00:48:52.66\00:48:54.72 Verse 25 gives us a starting point for these time prophecies. 00:48:54.75\00:48:58.45 Let's go back to the slide. 00:48:58.48\00:49:00.00 This is what we know so far. 00:49:00.03\00:49:01.95 The 70 weeks are 490 years and he says 70 weeks or 490 years 00:49:01.98\00:49:06.96 was the time eluded for the Jewish nation. 00:49:06.99\00:49:08.99 That's what we know so far. 00:49:09.02\00:49:10.96 Any questions? That's pretty simple. 00:49:10.99\00:49:13.49 Look at verse 25. 00:49:13.52\00:49:15.84 "Know therefore..." What's the word? "Understand". 00:49:16.26\00:49:20.20 That word comes up again and again in Daniel 8 and 9. 00:49:20.44\00:49:23.86 "Know therefore and understand that from the going forth 00:49:23.89\00:49:27.90 to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah", 00:49:27.93\00:49:36.67 who's Messiah the Prince? Jesus Christ. 00:49:36.88\00:49:38.31 The word "Meshia", "Messiah" and "Hristos" are the same words, 00:49:38.34\00:49:43.34 they mean "anointed". 00:49:43.58\00:49:45.33 From the going forth of the command, 00:49:45.69\00:49:48.69 the restoration of Jerusalem, to the Anointed Prince will be 00:49:48.83\00:49:54.14 "seven weeks and sixty two weeks. 00:49:54.40\00:49:57.58 The street shall be built again and the wall, 00:49:57.85\00:50:00.07 even in troublesome times." 00:50:00.10\00:50:02.12 Sixty-two plus seven is what? Sixty-nine. 00:50:02.15\00:50:07.28 Basically here is what he says: 00:50:07.55\00:50:09.31 "Seventy weeks are cut off for your people." 00:50:09.34\00:50:10.76 Then he gives us a starting point. 00:50:10.79\00:50:12.34 From the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, to the time 00:50:12.37\00:50:17.80 of the Messiah is 69 weeks. If that makes sense say "Amen". 00:50:18.09\00:50:22.27 Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed at this point 00:50:22.30\00:50:26.42 and what's going to happen is that Babylon is going to become 00:50:26.45\00:50:29.21 Medopersia, and the you can go read about it in Ezra, 00:50:29.24\00:50:33.30 what would happen is that God moved upon the heart 00:50:33.33\00:50:39.32 of the king there in Persia to let the Jews go back 00:50:39.59\00:50:43.52 to their home land and rebuild the temple. 00:50:43.55\00:50:46.29 Isn't that powerful? 00:50:46.32\00:50:47.63 He says from the going forth, when that decree came 00:50:47.66\00:50:49.98 and it came from a man named Artaxerxes. 00:50:50.01\00:50:52.70 You can read all about it in Ezra chapter 7. 00:50:52.73\00:50:55.54 You say "Is his name Artaxerxes?". It really is. 00:50:55.57\00:50:59.32 Artaxerxes issues a decree and he basically says to the Jews: 00:50:59.35\00:51:04.05 "Get out of here. Go on. I'm letting you go. 00:51:04.08\00:51:06.91 Go back and rebuild your temple, go back and rebuild your land. 00:51:06.94\00:51:10.61 Go! You're out of here. And if you need anything 00:51:10.64\00:51:12.99 you can pay for it out of my treasury." 00:51:13.02\00:51:15.33 Powerful! God moved the heart of that pagan king. 00:51:15.36\00:51:19.48 He said "Get out." 00:51:19.73\00:51:20.86 The children of Israel began to go and rebuild their city, 00:51:20.89\00:51:25.33 rebuild their temple, and when that decree went forward 00:51:25.36\00:51:29.20 it was in 475 BC. 00:51:29.23\00:51:31.25 It was the seventh year of Artaxerxes. 00:51:31.50\00:51:35.11 Artaxerxes came to power in 464, and in 475 he says "Go". 00:51:35.34\00:51:42.32 It says that day is 475 BC. 00:51:42.63\00:51:49.79 Gabrielle explains after 69 weeks or 483 literal years. 00:51:50.10\00:51:55.19 Do the math, is very simple. 00:51:55.41\00:51:57.57 490 years is 70 weeks. How many weeks? 00:51:57.60\00:52:02.46 If we're talking about 69 weeks we would subtract 7 years. 00:52:02.69\00:52:08.53 Which we be what? 483. 00:52:08.80\00:52:09.94 He says "Hey, 70 are cut off for the Jews, and from the time 00:52:09.97\00:52:14.12 that decree happens, until the Messiah, is 69 weeks. 00:52:14.15\00:52:18.95 So far so good? It's pretty simple. 00:52:19.22\00:52:22.20 Let's put in on the board so you can see it. 00:52:22.23\00:52:26.04 475, you move forward, 483 years, 00:52:26.38\00:52:30.47 that brings you to exactly 27 AD. 00:52:30.66\00:52:33.65 Brings you to what? 27 AD. 00:52:37.76\00:52:43.64 What happened in 27 AD? 00:52:43.88\00:52:45.86 Jesus of Nazareth was baptized. 00:52:46.41\00:52:51.56 He was baptized. 00:52:51.82\00:52:53.03 You can read it in Luke chapter 3, it says in your study guide. 00:52:53.06\00:52:56.29 Luke was a fantastic historian, he said that this happened 00:52:56.32\00:53:01.03 in the 50th years of the rein of Tiberius Caesar. 00:53:01.26\00:53:05.65 He began to rule in 12 AD, you move 15 years that brings you 00:53:05.88\00:53:12.58 to 27 AD. 00:53:12.83\00:53:13.96 Jesus was baptized in 27 AD. 00:53:14.21\00:53:17.08 Jesus was what? Baptized in 27 AD. 00:53:17.27\00:53:20.25 He was anointed, according to Peter in Acts chapter 10, 00:53:20.47\00:53:23.83 He was anointed by the Holy Spirit. 00:53:23.86\00:53:27.56 Remember the Holy Spirit descended upon Him? 00:53:27.85\00:53:30.26 He heard that voice saying "This is My beloved Son 00:53:30.29\00:53:33.94 in whom I'm well pleased." 00:53:33.97\00:53:36.21 I want you to think about that. 00:53:37.37\00:53:40.35 This is so powerful! 00:53:40.62\00:53:42.56 Gabrielle comes to explain the vision and he says: 00:53:43.08\00:53:45.14 "Seventy weeks are cut off for your people." O.K 00:53:45.17\00:53:50.67 From the going forth of the command to restore 00:53:51.37\00:53:53.74 and rebuild Jerusalem, Daniel is saying "Yes, got it." 00:53:53.77\00:53:56.86 "Daniel, for 483 days or prophetic days literal years, 00:53:56.89\00:54:01.85 then the Messiah will come. The one you're looking for." 00:54:02.07\00:54:06.67 The one we are all looking for. He's going to come. 00:54:06.72\00:54:10.88 And sure enough, right on time. 00:54:10.91\00:54:13.42 In the fall of 27 AD a man named Jesus of Nazareth 00:54:13.60\00:54:19.06 walked away from His father's carpenters bench 00:54:19.32\00:54:24.65 and He walked down to the river Jordan. 00:54:24.87\00:54:28.15 John saw Him. 00:54:28.40\00:54:29.75 He said: "Look, it's the Lamb of God 00:54:32.12\00:54:38.65 who takes away the sin of the world." 00:54:38.89\00:54:42.01 I imagine everybody... 00:54:42.05\00:54:44.49 Here comes Jesus of Nazareth, walks down into that water, 00:54:44.71\00:54:49.18 speaks to His elder cousin John, John was His cousin, 00:54:49.21\00:54:53.02 6 months older, He says: "John, I need you to baptize Me. 00:54:53.05\00:54:58.81 Right now." John says: "You've got to be kidding. 00:54:59.03\00:55:03.09 I have need to be baptized by You." 00:55:03.17\00:55:06.38 "Suffereth this for now, thus it becometh us to fulfill 00:55:06.67\00:55:10.01 all righteousness." 00:55:10.04\00:55:12.04 The Bible says put Him down in that water, 00:55:12.26\00:55:16.16 baptized Him. And the Bible says as He was coming up 00:55:16.34\00:55:19.14 a voice from heaven "Behold my beloved, this is My beloved Son 00:55:19.17\00:55:25.77 in whom I am well pleased." 00:55:25.97\00:55:30.21 The Holy Spirit came upon Him. 00:55:30.39\00:55:32.08 In Acts chapter 3 Peters says He was anointed 00:55:32.11\00:55:34.02 by the Holy Spirit. 00:55:34.05\00:55:35.58 Whenever you anoint something with oil 00:55:35.61\00:55:38.27 that symbolizes the Holy Spirit. 00:55:38.30\00:55:40.83 The oil is the Holy Spirit. 00:55:41.01\00:55:42.94 When I go to anoint people I anoint them with olive oil. 00:55:42.97\00:55:46.08 Jesus was anointed with the real deal. 00:55:46.11\00:55:48.85 The Holy Spirit comes upon Him. 00:55:48.88\00:55:51.39 I want you to look at Daniel chapter 9 as we close this. 00:55:51.49\00:55:56.19 Verse 24, "Seventy weeks were determined for your people 00:55:56.57\00:55:59.69 and for your holy city to finish the transgression, 00:55:59.72\00:56:01.86 to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for inequity, 00:56:01.89\00:56:04.12 to bring an everlasting righteousness, 00:56:04.15\00:56:05.69 to seal up the vision and the prophecy, 00:56:05.72\00:56:07.01 to anoint the most holy. Know therefore and understand Daniel 00:56:07.04\00:56:10.11 that from the going forth of the command and the restore 00:56:10.14\00:56:12.02 and build of Jerusalem, 475, until Messiah comes, 00:56:12.05\00:56:16.36 the Anointed Prince, there will be sixty-nine weeks, 00:56:16.59\00:56:19.66 seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. The street will be built again 00:56:19.69\00:56:23.06 and the wall, even in troublesome times." 00:56:23.09\00:56:26.37 How did Jesus know when to leave His carpenter's bench? 00:56:26.40\00:56:31.60 How did He know? 00:56:31.77\00:56:33.15 I'll tell you how He knew. 00:56:33.31\00:56:35.54 He knew the book of Daniel. 00:56:35.78\00:56:38.92 When Jesus is baptized in Mark chapter 1 do you know what 00:56:39.22\00:56:43.97 He said? The time is fulfilled. 00:56:44.27\00:56:47.81 Mark chapter 1, verses 15 and 16. 00:56:48.09\00:56:50.63 Jesus is baptized, He said "The time is fulfilled". 00:56:50.66\00:56:53.01 What time? 00:56:53.04\00:56:54.01 How did He know that it was time to stop sawing and go down 00:56:54.22\00:57:00.27 and be baptized? 00:57:00.50\00:57:01.47 How did John know that it was time 00:57:01.48\00:57:02.50 to start preaching in the wilderness of Judea? 00:57:02.53\00:57:04.77 They knew this prophecy. 00:57:04.80\00:57:06.34 There was a set out of time the Messiah will come. 00:57:06.37\00:57:11.36 That's just the beginning of this prophecy. 00:57:11.61\00:57:14.39 It's what? The beginning. 00:57:14.42\00:57:16.45 Sometimes people say to me "How do you know Jesus is the guy?" 00:57:16.67\00:57:21.79 One of the ways I know is because He perfectly fulfilled 00:57:22.45\00:57:27.10 this prophecy of the Messiah. 00:57:27.30\00:57:30.01 It was given 500 years before His time. 00:57:30.23\00:57:35.10 Baptized, anointed by the Holy Ghost, 00:57:35.42\00:57:39.90 that gets us through the first 69 weeks of this prophecy. 00:57:40.16\00:57:44.93 Do you see that everyone? 00:57:45.15\00:57:46.87 That's the first 69 weeks, it gets us to 27 AD. 00:57:46.90\00:57:49.82 We still have another week. 00:57:49.85\00:57:53.06 What happens then? 00:57:53.21\00:57:55.37 We'll see you tomorrow night. 00:57:55.57\00:57:58.47
