Good evening everyone. Let's take out our study 00:00:15.07\00:00:19.21 guides, have a word of prayer and get right into 00:00:19.24\00:00:22.00 our information this evening, we've got an exciting 00:00:22.03\00:00:24.55 message in store for you "The Rock that Simply Will Not Roll" 00:00:24.58\00:00:27.43 "Part 2." So let's begin with a word 00:00:27.46\00:00:29.66 of prayer and we'll dive right in to our message proper. 00:00:29.69\00:00:33.86 Father in heaven, we come before You this evening and we are 00:00:33.89\00:00:37.07 anticipating a blessing. Father, we are coming to You 00:00:37.10\00:00:39.82 because you are a prayer hearing, prayer answering God. 00:00:39.85\00:00:43.52 We know that You will hear, and more than that, You will 00:00:43.55\00:00:47.29 answer. Father, the cry of our heart 00:00:47.32\00:00:50.23 tonight is for Biblical truth. So please tonight, as we open 00:00:50.26\00:00:54.42 Your word, may You send the Spirit that inspired these 00:00:54.45\00:00:57.36 Scriptures to now be the Spirit that instructs in these 00:00:57.39\00:01:00.02 Scriptures. Father, You have promised 00:01:00.05\00:01:02.56 to send the Spirit of truth to guide us into all truth. 00:01:02.59\00:01:06.70 Tonight the yearning, craving desire of our hearts 00:01:06.73\00:01:09.02 is for Biblical truth. So please be with us this 00:01:09.05\00:01:12.15 evening, and may we have an experience, a rich experience 00:01:12.18\00:01:16.07 with You in Your word. We ask this in Jesus' name, 00:01:16.10\00:01:19.39 let everyone say "amen". 00:01:19.42\00:01:22.93 Okay, so let's go right to our study guide, and instead 00:01:22.96\00:01:26.12 of reading that whole, great big long paragraph there 00:01:26.15\00:01:28.96 what I'd like you to do is look down about mid way through, 00:01:28.99\00:01:33.23 it says "We have seen that the dividing issue at the end" 00:01:33.26\00:01:36.12 "of time will be the issue of worship." 00:01:36.15\00:01:39.79 Additionally we have seen that the Antichrist will be 00:01:39.82\00:01:42.61 a subtle religious impostor more than a violent 00:01:42.64\00:01:47.73 political opposer. We have emphasized 00:01:47.76\00:01:50.81 the importance of standing on the rock of Christ, His word, 00:01:50.84\00:01:54.22 and His perfect law of love. Now we are poised to grasp 00:01:54.25\00:01:57.59 one of the issues, the most significant issues in the book 00:01:57.62\00:02:00.42 of Revelation in its larger significance. 00:02:00.45\00:02:03.18 What issue strikes at the heart of worship, Biblical fidelity, 00:02:03.21\00:02:07.70 tradition versus the commandments of God, 00:02:07.73\00:02:10.53 and the subtle religious sophistries of Satan, we will 00:02:10.56\00:02:12.92 answer that important question in this lesson. 00:02:12.95\00:02:16.37 So let's go directly to the screen, how many of you 00:02:16.40\00:02:19.20 remember that old TV show, I think it was called Dragnet, 00:02:19.23\00:02:22.43 where the old fellow would say "Just the facts man," 00:02:22.46\00:02:27.82 "just the facts." Okay, today I'm going to 00:02:27.85\00:02:30.72 give you just the facts, nothing but the facts. 00:02:30.75\00:02:33.49 [text on screen] 00:02:33.52\00:02:37.89 How many of you want Bible truth? 00:02:50.23\00:02:53.21 Very good, let's notice our next slide. 00:02:53.24\00:02:55.94 Notice the top says "truth can hurt", but the bottoms says 00:02:55.97\00:02:58.88 "error can kill", do you see that? 00:02:58.91\00:03:02.04 Truth sometimes hurts, but truth is always better than error. 00:03:02.07\00:03:05.73 Remember the other day we said that the difference between 00:03:05.76\00:03:08.04 a surgeon and butcher is that a butcher cuts to kill 00:03:08.07\00:03:12.65 and a surgeon cuts to heal. God is not a butcher, 00:03:12.68\00:03:16.26 He's a surgeon, and tonight I'm going to perfectly candid 00:03:16.29\00:03:18.66 with you, some of you are going to be cut a little bit, 00:03:18.69\00:03:21.64 but remember, God never sends His truth to hurt us 00:03:21.67\00:03:24.17 or to humiliate us, but to enlighten us so we can be 00:03:24.20\00:03:26.58 faithful and obedient to Him. Listen to this: [text on screen] 00:03:26.61\00:03:32.23 I'm looking across the room at a good friend of mine, 00:03:37.81\00:03:40.23 Al Green, and Al Green does my taxes; I expect Al Green 00:03:40.26\00:03:43.91 to tell me the truth about what I owe the US government 00:03:43.94\00:03:46.74 on my taxes, that's the professional expectation 00:03:46.77\00:03:50.49 that I have of Al Green. Shouldn't we want our preachers 00:03:50.52\00:03:53.57 and teachers to do the same? [Audience] Yes. 00:03:53.60\00:03:56.30 Isn't that right? If we have the expectation 00:03:56.33\00:03:58.95 that our accountant tells us the truth, and our banker tells us 00:03:58.98\00:04:02.10 the truth, and our doctor tells us the truth, and our 00:04:02.13\00:04:04.77 lawyer tells us the truth, we should have the same expectation 00:04:04.80\00:04:07.60 of those who work and who deal with eternal truth. 00:04:07.63\00:04:10.92 So that's what we're going to be doing today. 00:04:10.95\00:04:13.38 [text on screen] 00:04:13.41\00:04:16.67 Open your Bibles to the book of Revelation. 00:04:25.35\00:04:27.99 Revelation 14. 00:04:28.02\00:04:34.15 Here in Revelation 14 we find what is sometimes referred to 00:04:34.18\00:04:37.86 as the 3 angel's messages, and we'll spend more time on this 00:04:37.89\00:04:41.35 in the future. These are 3 very important, 00:04:41.38\00:04:44.86 very significant messages that are given by angels. 00:04:44.89\00:04:48.48 The word "angel" in the Greek simply means "the bearer" 00:04:48.51\00:04:51.05 "of a message", and here there are 3 messages. 00:04:51.08\00:04:53.84 Let's just take a quick look at the first angel's message, 00:04:53.87\00:04:57.17 Revelation 14:6, John says: "Then I saw another" 00:04:57.20\00:05:01.65 "angel flying in the midst of heaven", so this is a heavenly 00:05:01.68\00:05:04.92 message, "having the everlasting gospel to preach to those" 00:05:04.95\00:05:09.30 "who dwell on the earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue" 00:05:09.33\00:05:12.07 "and people", so in other words, this message is for everyone, 00:05:12.10\00:05:15.15 it is a universal message. Verse 7: "Saying with a loud" 00:05:15.18\00:05:17.96 "voice, Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His" 00:05:17.99\00:05:21.54 "judgment has come, and worship Him who made", notice that, 00:05:21.57\00:05:28.23 "worship Him who made the heaven, and the earth," 00:05:28.26\00:05:31.62 "and the sea, and the springs of waters." 00:05:31.65\00:05:35.44 We have said before that there are 404 verses in the book 00:05:35.47\00:05:38.35 of Revelation, and a full 270, at least, of those come 00:05:38.38\00:05:43.64 directly from the Old Testament. That verse that you just 00:05:43.67\00:05:46.47 read there in verse 7 is the single largest quotation 00:05:46.50\00:05:51.31 from the Old Testament in the entire book of Revelation, 00:05:51.34\00:05:54.19 right there in verse 7, I'll read it again. 00:05:54.22\00:05:55.96 It says "And worship Him", and here it is, "who made" 00:05:55.99\00:05:59.03 "the heaven, and the earth, and the seas, and the springs" 00:05:59.06\00:06:02.23 "of waters", that is the single largest verbatim quotation 00:06:02.26\00:06:05.18 in the entire book of Revelation of an Old Testament passage. 00:06:05.21\00:06:08.88 I want you to notice what it has to relate to, it relates 00:06:08.91\00:06:12.33 to worshipping God as the creator of heaven and earth. 00:06:12.36\00:06:19.28 In fact, there are 2 reasons that we worship God. 00:06:19.31\00:06:23.87 Open your Bible to Revelation 4. There are 2 primary reasons 00:06:23.90\00:06:29.84 that we worship God and I'll pick 1 up in Revelation 4:10. 00:06:29.87\00:06:35.83 Here we have this marvelous throne room scene. 00:06:35.86\00:06:39.22 In this marvelous throne room scene there are angels 00:06:39.25\00:06:41.96 and there are elders, and there are these strange looking beasts 00:06:41.99\00:06:44.91 and they are worshipping Him that sits on the throne. 00:06:44.94\00:06:47.70 I'm in verse 10: "The 24 elders fall down before Him", 00:06:47.73\00:06:50.51 "Him" being God, "who sits on the throne and worship Him" 00:06:50.54\00:06:54.47 "who lives for ever and ever, and they cast their crowns" 00:06:54.50\00:06:56.95 "before the throne saying", now watch what they do, 00:06:56.98\00:07:00.03 watch what they say, "You are worthy O Lord to receive" 00:07:00.06\00:07:03.79 "glory, and honor, and power for", or because, "You created" 00:07:03.82\00:07:09.16 "all things and by Your will they exist and were created." 00:07:09.19\00:07:14.56 "We're worshipping You because You're the Creator." 00:07:14.59\00:07:17.66 "We're worshipping You because You made us and You made" 00:07:17.69\00:07:20.77 "everything." Now look in Revelation 5:12. 00:07:20.80\00:07:26.89 Here the Lamb has come into the throne room, He has taken 00:07:26.92\00:07:30.39 the scroll out of the hand of Him who sits on the throne, 00:07:30.42\00:07:33.45 He sits down on that same throne and those that are around 00:07:33.48\00:07:37.26 say in verse 12: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain," 00:07:37.29\00:07:41.71 "to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength," 00:07:41.74\00:07:44.69 "and honor, and glory." Look at verse 9: 00:07:44.72\00:07:47.78 "You are worthy to take the scroll, to open its seals for" 00:07:47.81\00:07:50.61 "You were slain and You have redeemed us to God by Your" 00:07:50.64\00:07:54.72 "blood out of every tribe, tongue, and people, and nation," 00:07:54.75\00:07:57.60 "and have made us kings and priests to our God, and we" 00:07:57.63\00:08:00.53 "shall reign on the earth for ever." 00:08:00.56\00:08:03.33 Jump down to verse 14: "And the 4 living creatures said," 00:08:03.36\00:08:06.11 "Amen, and the 24 elders fell down and worshipped Him" 00:08:06.14\00:08:08.67 "who lives for ever and ever." So here in Revelation 4 and 5 00:08:08.70\00:08:11.62 we find the 2 primary reasons why God is worshipped. 00:08:11.65\00:08:14.25 Nr.1- because He's our creator, and Nr.2- because He's our 00:08:14.28\00:08:17.56 Saviour and our Redeemer. 00:08:17.59\00:08:20.38 So here in this first angel's message of Revelation 14 00:08:20.41\00:08:23.79 there's this call: "Fear God and give glory to Him" 00:08:23.82\00:08:27.18 "for the hour of His judgment has come and worship Him", 00:08:27.21\00:08:29.89 and then he quotes from the Old Testament, "who made" 00:08:29.92\00:08:32.69 "the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters." 00:08:32.72\00:08:35.29 There is this clarion call to worship God as the creator. 00:08:35.32\00:08:41.05 So far so good everyone? [Audience] Yes. 00:08:41.08\00:08:43.82 Powerful Biblical call, "worship God as creator, worship God" 00:08:43.85\00:08:46.95 "as the Redeemer." If those are the 2 reasons 00:08:46.98\00:08:49.76 that we worship God then Satan, through the Antichrist, is going 00:08:49.79\00:08:52.49 to try and undermine those 2 things so that we won't see 00:08:52.52\00:08:55.39 God as our creator, and we won't see Him as our redeemer, 00:08:55.42\00:08:58.15 and thus won't render to Him the worship that He's due. 00:08:58.18\00:09:02.77 Now look at Revelation 13 again. 00:09:02.80\00:09:06.88 The conflict, as we've already said, will pit true Biblical 00:09:08.48\00:09:11.45 worship against false manmade worship. 00:09:11.48\00:09:14.40 Now let me show you a startling Bible fact, 00:09:14.43\00:09:16.94 an amazing Bible fact, the real issue is worship, 00:09:16.97\00:09:20.62 you'll notice the word "worship" is a contraction of 2 words: 00:09:20.65\00:09:23.43 "worth", "ship", in other words, whatever you worship is what's 00:09:23.46\00:09:26.57 worth the most to you. If your car is worth the most 00:09:26.60\00:09:29.36 to you, that's what you worship, if sports are worth the most 00:09:29.39\00:09:32.00 to you, that's what you worship, if you're family is 00:09:32.03\00:09:34.94 worth the most to you, that's what you worship, 00:09:34.97\00:09:37.87 if God is worth the most to you, that's what you worship. 00:09:37.90\00:09:40.96 [text on screen] 00:09:40.99\00:09:43.13 No book in the Bible contains the word "worship" more than 00:09:49.19\00:09:51.95 the book of Revelation. So consistently here 00:09:51.98\00:09:54.59 worship, worship, worship, worship is the consistent 00:09:54.62\00:09:58.34 reverberating issue in the book of Revelation. 00:09:58.37\00:10:02.35 Now we're in Revelation 13, in fact, I think I've got it 00:10:02.38\00:10:05.65 here on the screen for you, actually, Revelation 12:9, 00:10:05.68\00:10:08.83 we'll quote that one first. It says: [text on screen] 00:10:08.86\00:10:13.57 "Who deceives just a small portion of the world; he was" 00:10:13.60\00:10:17.59 "cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." 00:10:17.62\00:10:20.44 Is that what it says? [Audience] No. 00:10:20.47\00:10:23.06 It says he deceives half of the world? [Audience] No. 00:10:23.09\00:10:25.82 He deceives 60% of the world? [Audience] No. 00:10:25.85\00:10:28.60 He deceives how much of the world according to that verse? 00:10:28.63\00:10:31.21 - [Audience] All. -All the world, the whole world. 00:10:31.24\00:10:34.16 Notice this, Revelation 13:3: "Half of the world marvelled" 00:10:34.19\00:10:37.03 "and followed the beast"? 70%? [text on screen] 00:10:37.06\00:10:40.02 How about verse 8? [text on screen] 00:10:40.05\00:10:43.31 So we have these 3 texts there, they're right there in your 00:10:46.40\00:10:49.37 study guide, that make it crystal clear to us that this 00:10:49.40\00:10:52.38 idea of all the world being deceived, of all the world 00:10:52.41\00:10:55.35 wondering after the beast is not something that we as Christians, 00:10:55.38\00:10:58.77 should be surprised about. Tonight if we discover that much 00:10:58.80\00:11:02.48 of the world has, in fact, wondered after the beast 00:11:02.51\00:11:05.26 we shouldn't go "What?! I'm so surprised!" 00:11:05.29\00:11:07.73 "I can hardly believe it", we should say "that's exactly" 00:11:07.76\00:11:10.57 "what we would expect because that's what the Bible says." 00:11:10.60\00:11:14.14 In fact, we should be surprised if we found that the world 00:11:14.17\00:11:16.88 wasn't wondering after that beast. 00:11:16.91\00:11:19.44 3 times it says "all the world", so our expectation 00:11:19.47\00:11:28.17 is that we would find the world wondering, in some respect, 00:11:28.20\00:11:32.20 after the beast; and I'm going to maintain tonight that it 00:11:32.23\00:11:34.71 centers around this idea of worship, true Biblical worship 00:11:34.74\00:11:39.57 versus manmade worship. What do these verses 00:11:39.60\00:11:42.38 have in common? There on your study guide: 00:11:42.41\00:11:44.89 They all describe the universality of deception. 00:11:44.92\00:11:51.47 That is to say that it's not just an isolated group here 00:11:51.50\00:11:54.31 and there, but the whole world is depicted as falling under 00:11:54.34\00:11:57.14 the sophistries of Satan and the Antichrist power. 00:11:57.17\00:11:59.98 In this lesson we will learn that many, unknowingly, are 00:12:00.01\00:12:02.92 living under one of the most subtle deceptions of 00:12:02.95\00:12:05.76 the Antichrist, we should not be "surprised", is what you'd 00:12:05.79\00:12:09.95 write there. We should not be surprised 00:12:09.98\00:12:12.63 if we discover that much of the world has unwittingly 00:12:12.66\00:12:14.64 bought into one of the deceptions of the last days. 00:12:14.67\00:12:17.60 In fact, according to Revelation, as we have said, 00:12:17.63\00:12:20.26 we should expect it. Remember, we do not arrive 00:12:20.29\00:12:24.14 at truth by a majority vote, but by the Bible. 00:12:24.17\00:12:27.44 Okay, we're on page Nr.2, we're making very good time. 00:12:27.47\00:12:31.60 I want to present to you right now on the board a claim 00:12:31.63\00:12:34.80 that you are going to find to be, many of you, 00:12:34.83\00:12:37.30 totally shocking, so buckle your safety belts, if there's safety 00:12:37.33\00:12:41.01 belts on those chairs, you want to buckle them right now. 00:12:41.04\00:12:43.24 I'm going to present to you historical claims, and then 00:12:43.27\00:12:46.03 we're going to investigate the truthfulness, or the veracity 00:12:46.06\00:12:49.28 of these historical claims that we put up here on the screen. 00:12:49.31\00:12:53.16 Jesus says in Matthew 28:18: "All authority has been given" 00:12:53.19\00:12:59.00 "to Me in heaven and on earth." That's the claim of Jesus. 00:12:59.03\00:13:02.32 [text on screen] 00:13:02.35\00:13:04.79 Notice, the word "authority" has as its root word the word 00:13:09.67\00:13:12.35 "author", so Jesus has a legitimate authority over us 00:13:12.38\00:13:15.92 because He is our author, that is He's the one who made us, 00:13:15.95\00:13:19.16 are we all clear on that? So let's continue. 00:13:19.19\00:13:22.42 Let's put some of these claims up here, Daniel 7:25, 00:13:22.45\00:13:25.34 one of the identifying characteristics of 00:13:25.37\00:13:28.02 the Antichrist: [text on screen] 00:13:28.05\00:13:30.97 Who's the saints everyone? [Audience] We are. 00:13:35.25\00:13:38.08 You've got it. [continues to read] 00:13:38.11\00:13:41.29 Well let's take a look at a few of these historical claims 00:13:45.96\00:13:48.95 that have been made by the Roman church-state. 00:13:48.98\00:13:51.57 We've looked at this one twice, let's look at it again. 00:13:51.60\00:13:54.22 Lucius Ferraris "Prompta Bibliotheca": [text on screen] 00:13:54.25\00:13:59.11 So the Bible says that one of the identifying characteristics 00:14:11.02\00:14:14.04 of the Antichrist power is that he would think that he had 00:14:14.07\00:14:16.97 the prerogative to change and to modify the very laws of God, 00:14:17.00\00:14:20.86 and the times of God. 00:14:20.89\00:14:25.13 Let me show you, again, historical statements on 00:14:25.16\00:14:28.01 the screen, notice them. First one, from 00:14:28.04\00:14:30.58 the Rev. Peter Geierman from the "Converts Catechism" 00:14:30.61\00:14:33.52 "of Doctrine", page 50. The whole Catechism is set up 00:14:33.55\00:14:36.38 in question and answer format. [text on screen] 00:14:36.41\00:14:40.68 Notice the claim, [continues to read] 00:14:46.30\00:14:49.85 Do you see what he's saying? "What day's the Sabbath?" 00:14:57.18\00:15:00.04 "Saturday's the Sabbath", "Wait a minute, why do we keep" 00:15:00.07\00:15:02.99 "Sunday instead of Saturday?" "Oh, the church changed it." 00:15:03.02\00:15:05.76 Let's show another one, this one's from the Catholic 00:15:05.79\00:15:08.46 encyclopedia, Vol 4, page 153, [text on screen] 00:15:08.49\00:15:12.76 Who made the change according to the claim? 00:15:21.45\00:15:24.29 The church made the claim, remarkable. 00:15:24.32\00:15:27.20 Let's look at another one, "The American Catholic Quarterly" 00:15:27.23\00:15:30.15 "Review", January 1883, [text on screen] 00:15:30.18\00:15:33.79 Let's look at still another one, literally hundreds of these 00:15:43.83\00:15:46.40 could be given, I'm just giving you a few. 00:15:46.43\00:15:48.92 "Canon and Tradition", page 263, [text on screen] 00:15:48.95\00:15:53.38 So here we find this remarkable claim being made by 00:16:07.62\00:16:11.50 the historical Roman church- state, "we changed" 00:16:11.53\00:16:14.43 "the day of worship from the Biblical Sabbath, Saturday," 00:16:14.46\00:16:17.99 "to Sunday, our day." Now, our question today is this, 00:16:18.02\00:16:21.78 it's a very simple question: what is the Bible answer? 00:16:21.81\00:16:25.39 What we're going to ask is this: [text on screen] 00:16:25.42\00:16:30.00 That's what we're going to discover tonight, so look 00:16:38.96\00:16:41.79 at your study guide there, we're at the top of page 2: 00:16:41.82\00:16:44.64 The Roman church-state has historically made one of 00:16:44.67\00:16:47.70 the most remarkable and disturbing claims known to man, 00:16:47.73\00:16:50.53 namely, they claim that they actually changed the day 00:16:50.56\00:16:53.43 of worship from Sabbath to Sunday. 00:16:53.46\00:16:58.30 You can jump down to the bottom, our question is this: 00:16:58.33\00:17:01.12 is this remarkable claim true, or can the change from 00:17:01.15\00:17:04.33 Sabbath to Sunday be supported from the Bible? 00:17:04.36\00:17:09.50 That's what we're going to ask tonight, so we go to 00:17:09.53\00:17:12.36 the beginning, and that would bring us to the book 00:17:12.39\00:17:15.09 of Genesis, let's go to Genesis 1. 00:17:15.12\00:17:19.69 The question we're asking tonight is: can Sunday 00:17:19.72\00:17:22.48 sacredness be supported from the Bible, or is it a tradition 00:17:22.51\00:17:26.65 and a relic of the Roman church-state? 00:17:26.68\00:17:29.99 We're in Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created" 00:17:30.02\00:17:34.35 "the heavens and the earth, the earth was without form" 00:17:34.38\00:17:37.52 "and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep," 00:17:37.55\00:17:40.37 "and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." 00:17:40.40\00:17:43.14 You have the 6 days of creation, go to verse 31. 00:17:43.17\00:17:46.05 "And God saw everything that He had made and indeed" 00:17:46.08\00:17:48.92 "it was very good. The evening and the morning" 00:17:48.95\00:17:52.16 "were the 6th day." Genesis 2:1: "thus the heavens" 00:17:52.19\00:17:56.15 "and the earth and all the hosts of them were finished." 00:17:56.18\00:17:58.94 Take that word "finished" and hang it on a hook in your mind, 00:17:58.97\00:18:01.78 we're coming back to it. So, it was finished. 00:18:01.81\00:18:06.29 Verse 2: "And on the 7th day, God ended His work" 00:18:06.32\00:18:09.12 "which He had done, and He rested on the 7th day from" 00:18:09.15\00:18:11.99 "all His work which He had done, then God blessed the 7th day" 00:18:12.02\00:18:15.23 "and sanctified it because in it He rested from all His work" 00:18:15.26\00:18:18.40 "which God had created an made." I have a question for you today: 00:18:18.43\00:18:21.55 was God tired? Was God just exhausted 00:18:21.58\00:18:24.71 and fatigued, He came home and He just had to put His feet up 00:18:24.74\00:18:27.77 and take a day of rest? No, but God did take a day 00:18:27.80\00:18:30.59 of rest on that 7th day, and the question would be then: why? 00:18:30.62\00:18:33.90 Why would God do such a thing? The answer is: not because God 00:18:33.93\00:18:37.13 was tired, but because God was setting an example for mankind. 00:18:37.16\00:18:42.35 God doesn't need rest, but do I need rest? 00:18:42.38\00:18:47.61 Do you need rest? Absolutely. 00:18:47.64\00:18:50.17 God did 3 things to the 7th day, we just read it there in those 00:18:50.20\00:18:52.85 verses: [text on screen] 00:18:52.88\00:18:55.39 The word "sanctified" means He set it aside for a holy purpose, 00:18:56.88\00:19:00.47 [continues to read] 00:19:00.50\00:19:02.46 So you'd write that right down on your study guide there. 00:19:03.23\00:19:05.85 God blessed it, God sanctified it and God rested on it. 00:19:05.88\00:19:09.63 Do you see that in the text everyone? 00:19:09.66\00:19:12.70 Now we're in the study guide again: Clearly God wanted 00:19:12.73\00:19:15.60 the Sabbath to be set apart as special, in fact, 00:19:15.63\00:19:20.14 the word "sanctified" means "to set apart for a holy," 00:19:20.17\00:19:24.56 "special purpose." God could have created the earth 00:19:24.59\00:19:27.58 in 1 second, God could have just created the whole thing 00:19:27.61\00:19:31.22 in 1 nanosecond, he could have just thought it and boom, 00:19:31.25\00:19:33.47 it existed, but He did this for a reason, He created for 00:19:33.50\00:19:37.11 a reason: day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, day 6, 00:19:37.14\00:19:42.46 resting on the 7th. You think about all of our 00:19:42.49\00:19:45.73 cycles, we have a solar year, and we have a lunar month, 00:19:45.76\00:19:49.54 and we have a solar day, but what phenomenon happens 00:19:49.57\00:19:53.66 out in the stellar heavens every 7 days? 00:19:53.69\00:19:57.96 Does anything happen astrologically 00:19:57.99\00:20:00.82 and cosmologically every 7 days? No; why do we have a 7 day week? 00:20:00.85\00:20:05.39 1 reason: God commanded a 7 day week, 00:20:05.42\00:20:08.80 there's nothing that happens every 7 days, 00:20:08.83\00:20:11.21 at least not in terms of the stellar heavens. 00:20:11.24\00:20:13.96 So, we have a solar day, we have a lunar month, we have a solar 00:20:13.99\00:20:16.81 year, but this weekly cycle was set up by God as an example 00:20:16.84\00:20:21.09 and a pattern. 00:20:21.12\00:20:24.69 Now you're back to your study guide: "Remember Me". 00:20:24.72\00:20:27.36 Open your Bibles to Exodus 20. Exodus is the second book 00:20:27.39\00:20:32.29 of the Old Testament, Exodus 20, and here we find 00:20:32.32\00:20:35.39 the 10 commandments. The last time we were together 00:20:35.42\00:20:40.24 we looked at those 10 commandments, and we saw 00:20:40.27\00:20:42.24 that those 10 commandments were actually written by the finger 00:20:42.27\00:20:45.28 of God on tables of stone, and they were placed in the Ark. 00:20:45.31\00:20:50.82 We discovered that those commandments were actually 00:20:50.85\00:20:53.68 carved out of the very throne, the very sapphire throne 00:20:53.71\00:20:56.49 of God Himself; unchanging, immutable, powerful 00:20:56.52\00:21:02.09 and glorious. Exodus 20, and you will notice 00:21:02.12\00:21:04.75 that there are 10 commandments and 8 of them begin 00:21:04.78\00:21:07.93 with "Thou shalt not". 00:21:07.96\00:21:12.35 8 commandments say "Don't do this behaviour..." 00:21:12.38\00:21:15.25 I like to say it this way: a corpse could keep 8 00:21:15.28\00:21:18.05 of the 10 commandments. A corpse can keep 8 out of 00:21:18.08\00:21:20.76 the 10 because 8 out of the 10 say "don't do a behaviour", 00:21:20.79\00:21:24.39 corpses don't steal, corpses don't kill, corpses don't have 00:21:24.42\00:21:27.04 other gods, but 2 of the commandments are framed 00:21:27.07\00:21:29.60 in the positive, and one of them is found in Exodus 20:8. 00:21:29.63\00:21:34.86 The first word of verse 8 is: "Remember", notice it's not 00:21:34.89\00:21:39.53 "thou shalt not", but it's "Remember the Sabbath day" 00:21:39.56\00:21:44.75 "to keep it holy", very interesting. 00:21:44.78\00:21:47.58 "...6 days shall you labor and do all your work," 00:21:47.61\00:21:50.48 Where did that come from, 6 days and resting on the 7th? 00:21:50.51\00:21:53.17 It came from creation, "but the 7th day is the Sabbath" 00:21:53.20\00:21:55.91 "of the Jews". [Audience] Lord. 00:21:55.94\00:21:58.62 Oh, is that what it says? "The 7th day is the Sabbath" 00:21:58.65\00:22:01.52 "of the Lord your God, in it you shall do no work," 00:22:01.55\00:22:04.19 "you, nor your son, your daughter, your male servant," 00:22:04.22\00:22:07.13 "or your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger" 00:22:07.16\00:22:10.02 "who is within your gates, for in 6 days the Lord made" 00:22:10.05\00:22:12.89 "the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them," 00:22:12.92\00:22:15.59 "and He rested the 7th day, therefore the Lord blessed" 00:22:15.62\00:22:18.30 "the Sabbath day and hallowed it." 00:22:18.33\00:22:21.23 Do you see that there in verse 11 where it says He made 00:22:21.26\00:22:24.09 the heavens, the earth, the sea and all that in them is? 00:22:24.12\00:22:26.71 Earlier, we've already read it, Revelation 15:6, 00:22:26.74\00:22:29.24 remember I told you that this is the largest quotation 00:22:29.27\00:22:31.98 in the entire book of Revelation from the Old Testament. 00:22:32.01\00:22:34.52 "I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven" 00:22:34.55\00:22:37.33 "having the everlasting gospel to preach onto them that dwell" 00:22:37.36\00:22:39.86 "on the earth and to every nation, kindred, tongue" 00:22:39.89\00:22:42.61 "and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God and give glory" 00:22:42.64\00:22:45.40 "to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come," 00:22:45.43\00:22:48.17 "and worship Him that made the heaven, the earth, the sea" 00:22:48.20\00:22:50.90 "and the fountains of waters", that quotation comes directly 00:22:50.93\00:22:53.69 from the 4th commandment, did you know that? 00:22:53.72\00:22:56.48 John was saying "Remember the 4th commandment", well that 00:22:56.51\00:22:59.09 stands to reason because the first word of 00:22:59.12\00:23:01.51 the 4th commandment is the word "remember". 00:23:01.54\00:23:03.88 If my wife says to me "Sweety, on your way out the door" 00:23:03.91\00:23:06.68 "as you're going to the store remember to pick up bread", 00:23:06.71\00:23:09.49 the reason she says "remember to pick up bread" is that she'd 00:23:09.52\00:23:12.25 already told me to pick up the bread, probably 5 times 00:23:12.28\00:23:14.75 knowing my wife, and she's telling me to remember it 00:23:14.78\00:23:17.58 because she thinks I'm going to forget it. 00:23:17.61\00:23:20.09 She could never tell me to remember something she hadn't 00:23:20.12\00:23:22.91 first told me about, so when God here says "remember" 00:23:22.94\00:23:25.65 He's reminding them about creation. 00:23:25.68\00:23:28.09 So "remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy", go to your 00:23:28.12\00:23:30.79 study guide, there it says: Remember Me. 00:23:30.82\00:23:33.43 In Exodus 20, the chapter containing the 10 commandments, 00:23:33.46\00:23:36.15 God reminds His people about the importance of the Sabbath. 00:23:36.18\00:23:38.94 We can be sure that God was reminding them about the day 00:23:38.97\00:23:41.59 because it begins with the word "remember". 00:23:41.62\00:23:44.25 Don't forget who wrote this law, who wrote it everyone? 00:23:44.28\00:23:47.06 God, with His finger on tables of stone, and it was placed 00:23:47.09\00:23:51.57 in the Ark. God wrote this law on stone 00:23:51.60\00:23:54.11 to show that it did not change. God did not make this day 00:23:54.14\00:23:59.43 holy in Genesis and in Exodus He reminds the people 00:23:59.46\00:24:02.23 about it, it is worth noting that only God can make 00:24:02.26\00:24:05.59 anything holy. 00:24:05.62\00:24:07.98 Who am I to make anything holy? I say "I want this pulpit" 00:24:08.01\00:24:11.46 "to be holy", is that pulpit suddenly holy? 00:24:11.49\00:24:14.43 No, but if God makes something holy, then He can tell me 00:24:14.46\00:24:19.20 to keep it that way. Some people say "Well, I'm just" 00:24:19.23\00:24:23.15 "going to keep only as the Sabbath, Wednesday will be" 00:24:23.18\00:24:25.93 "my Sabbath", but wait a minute, God didn't say "make a day holy" 00:24:25.96\00:24:28.82 He said "keep the day that I already made holy holy", 00:24:28.85\00:24:32.29 does that make sense? He didn't say "make it that way", 00:24:32.32\00:24:34.67 He said "keep it that way". So far so good? 00:24:34.70\00:24:37.84 Let's continue there on page 3, we're making incredible time: 00:24:37.87\00:24:43.03 Consider the following texts, Ezekiel 20, I think I'll just 00:24:43.06\00:24:46.40 put them right up here on the board for you. 00:24:46.43\00:24:50.56 Ezekiel 20:20, God speaking: "And keep the Jews' Sabbaths", 00:24:52.64\00:24:59.97 is that what it says? [text on screen] 00:25:00.00\00:25:03.58 God says "You keep the Sabbath and everyone will know" 00:25:11.34\00:25:13.68 "that I'm the Lord your God." Think about it: Buddhists can 00:25:13.71\00:25:16.63 abstain from murder, Buddhists can abstain from adultery, 00:25:16.66\00:25:20.75 Buddhists can keep 9 of the 10 commandments, but what's 00:25:20.78\00:25:23.62 the 1 commandment that would let someone know who you're 00:25:23.65\00:25:26.31 worshipping? It would be the Sabbath 00:25:26.34\00:25:28.55 commandment because you say "No, I'm going to work 6" 00:25:28.58\00:25:31.14 "and rest on the 7th because I worship the God of the Bible," 00:25:31.17\00:25:34.09 "the God who created in 6 days and rested on the 7th", 00:25:34.12\00:25:37.45 that is the commandment that would let someone know 00:25:37.48\00:25:40.15 which God it is that I'm serving and worshipping. 00:25:40.18\00:25:44.23 If you say "I'm not going to kill", does that make you 00:25:44.26\00:25:47.82 a Christian? No, a Muslim could keep 00:25:47.85\00:25:50.31 that commandment, a Buddhist could keep that commandment, 00:25:50.34\00:25:53.42 anyone could keep that commandment, but if you're 00:25:53.45\00:25:56.06 keeping the 7th day Sabbath because God is the creator 00:25:56.09\00:25:59.04 and God is the redeemer, immediately everyone knows 00:25:59.07\00:26:01.45 "Oh, that's the God he worships, he worships the God of" 00:26:01.48\00:26:04.25 "the Bible, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God" 00:26:04.28\00:26:06.86 "of Jacob, the creator God." Amen? 00:26:06.89\00:26:09.57 - [Audience] Amen. - Powerful. 00:26:09.60\00:26:12.32 So God says "hey, you keep My Sabbaths, that'll be a sign" 00:26:12.35\00:26:15.23 "between Me and you that you may know that I am Jehovah," 00:26:15.26\00:26:17.84 "your God." Verse 12, look at this one: [text on screen] 00:26:17.87\00:26:23.01 The word "sanctifies" means "to set aside for a holy purpose". 00:26:29.99\00:26:37.34 So when you're saved God sanctifies you, He sets you 00:26:37.37\00:26:40.68 aside for a holy purpose. In the Old Testament certain 00:26:40.71\00:26:43.73 articles of furniture were sanctified for the Lord's 00:26:43.76\00:26:46.38 service, they were set aside for a holy purpose, they 00:26:46.41\00:26:48.98 were not to be used for profane purposes, they were sanctified, 00:26:49.01\00:26:51.78 they were set apart for God's own holy purposes, and God 00:26:51.81\00:26:55.53 says "the Sabbath is a sign that I'm the one who sanctifies you." 00:26:55.56\00:27:02.09 Well, let's put modern language on this, what does that mean? 00:27:02.12\00:27:05.11 [text on screen] 00:27:05.14\00:27:09.01 Not one person in this room can make that pulpit holy, 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.36 not one person in this room can make this sign holy, not one 00:27:13.39\00:27:16.17 person in this room can make my shoes holy, not one person in 00:27:16.20\00:27:19.03 this room can make themselves holy! [Audience] Amen. 00:27:19.06\00:27:22.68 The only one that can make you holy is the God who made 00:27:22.71\00:27:25.14 you in the first place, and that's God in heaven. 00:27:25.17\00:27:28.80 The Sabbath is a sign that it is God alone that can make us holy, 00:27:28.83\00:27:31.73 watch this, [text on screen] 00:27:31.76\00:27:34.36 Paul said "I know that in me, that is in my flesh" 00:27:36.14\00:27:38.76 "dwells no good thing", [continues to read] 00:27:38.79\00:27:42.69 So watch this, this is the bombshell, [text on screen] 00:27:46.67\00:27:51.63 ...because the Sabbath is a sign that God's the one 00:27:57.82\00:28:00.36 that makes us holy. So that Sabbath becomes the most 00:28:00.39\00:28:04.40 powerful, potent sign of righteousness by faith. 00:28:04.43\00:28:09.76 In fact, look there at your study guide: The Sabbath is 00:28:09.79\00:28:12.53 a sign of 2 powerful things, as we've already said: 00:28:12.56\00:28:15.20 [text on screen] 00:28:15.23\00:28:17.38 God is our Creator and God is our Redeemer. 00:28:21.47\00:28:24.60 The word "redeemer" means "to purchase", God is the one 00:28:24.63\00:28:27.14 who purchased us when His Son paid the ultimate price for us 00:28:27.17\00:28:31.20 on the cross with His own blood. So, the 2 reasons that God 00:28:31.23\00:28:36.93 is worshipped in Revelation is because He's the Creator, 00:28:36.96\00:28:39.63 and He's the Redeemer, and the Sabbath is a sign 00:28:39.66\00:28:42.28 "Hey, God's the one that created me in 6 days and rested" 00:28:42.31\00:28:45.13 "on the 7th, and He's my Redeemer, God is the one" 00:28:45.16\00:28:48.67 "who paid the price for me", and the Sabbath is a sign of that. 00:28:48.70\00:28:54.14 That's what He says, the Sabbath is a sign of that. 00:28:54.17\00:28:56.43 Now look at this, we're back to our study guides: 00:28:56.46\00:28:58.39 Just as Adam and Eve were called to rest in, and enjoy, 00:28:58.42\00:29:02.75 God's work of creation, so too, we are called to rest in 00:29:02.78\00:29:07.49 and enjoy God's work of Salvation. 00:29:07.52\00:29:11.44 I want you just to imagine, here's Adam, here's Eve, 00:29:11.47\00:29:14.39 they've been created, they're in the Garden, God says 00:29:14.42\00:29:17.00 "Hey, go check it out, go explore, I've got" 00:29:17.03\00:29:19.49 "hippopotamuses out there, and dolphins, and seals, and eels," 00:29:19.52\00:29:22.20 "go see, run along, go see how beautiful it is." 00:29:22.23\00:29:25.07 They run off and they come back and say "Oh, God we saw this" 00:29:25.10\00:29:28.06 "thing with the longest neck we've ever seen, we named it" 00:29:28.09\00:29:30.93 "giraffe, just awesome." They're out there playing 00:29:30.96\00:29:33.77 in this Edenic garden that God has created for them, and then 00:29:33.80\00:29:36.57 I can just imagine in my mind's eye, Adam says 00:29:36.60\00:29:39.43 "You know, it's not good enough for me to enjoy it, I want" 00:29:39.46\00:29:42.23 "to do something myself." So Adam stoops down and he 00:29:42.26\00:29:45.15 picks up a piece of clay and he moulds it into a little puppy 00:29:45.18\00:29:47.82 dog, a Chihuahua, and he says "God, look what I've created". 00:29:47.85\00:29:50.52 And He says "yeah, but it's just a piece of dirt", 00:29:50.55\00:29:53.83 he tries to breathe in it as Adam was breathed into, 00:29:53.86\00:29:56.78 [makes breathing noise], he's blowing on this piece 00:29:56.81\00:29:59.62 of dirt, does it ever come to life? [Audience] No. 00:29:59.65\00:30:02.37 I can just imagine in my mind's eye Jesus saying 00:30:02.40\00:30:05.24 "Adam, you're missing the point", you can't add to this 00:30:05.27\00:30:08.21 work, you can enjoy this work, so too with salvation. 00:30:08.24\00:30:11.03 We're saved and we think "Oh, I'm going to work" 00:30:11.06\00:30:13.66 "my way to heaven, I'm going to add to what God has done," 00:30:13.69\00:30:16.53 "I know God has saved me by grace, but I got something" 00:30:16.56\00:30:19.51 "I've got to do", and God says "Wait, stop trying to work" 00:30:19.54\00:30:22.12 "your way to heaven, enjoy what I have done for you." 00:30:22.15\00:30:25.00 [Audience] Amen. 00:30:25.03\00:30:27.28 Hallelujah. So, it's sign and symbol 00:30:27.31\00:30:29.76 of creation, it's a sign and symbol of redemption. 00:30:29.79\00:30:32.52 Right there at the bottom of that paragraph, what a powerful 00:30:32.55\00:30:35.52 symbol: God is both creator and redeemer, and the Sabbath 00:30:35.55\00:30:38.31 is a powerful sign that God is both of these. 00:30:38.34\00:30:42.12 Who was the creator anyway? That's a good question, 00:30:42.15\00:30:45.17 isn't it? Who was the creator? 00:30:45.20\00:30:50.29 Let me just quote it for you, John 1:1: "In the beginning" 00:30:50.32\00:30:53.19 "was the word, and the word was with God, and the word" 00:30:53.22\00:30:56.67 "was God." Listen carefully, "all things were made by Him" 00:30:56.70\00:31:00.10 "and without Him was nothing made that was made." 00:31:00.13\00:31:03.31 So was the creator? Jesus was the creator, 00:31:03.34\00:31:06.35 God created through Christ Jesus according to 00:31:06.38\00:31:09.07 Colossians 1:17, that's in your study guide right there, 00:31:09.10\00:31:11.74 and this is as old as Christianity itself. 00:31:11.77\00:31:14.65 Notice this from "The Apostolic Creed", you can't get 00:31:14.68\00:31:17.47 more Protestant than "The Apostolic Creed", 00:31:17.50\00:31:20.30 [text on screen] 00:31:20.33\00:31:23.03 God created through Christ Jesus, Jesus was the Creator. 00:31:28.65\00:31:34.48 Powerful. According to the teaching 00:31:34.51\00:31:36.97 of the New Testament Jesus was the one through which God 00:31:37.00\00:31:39.89 created, notice especially, I've given you several verses, 00:31:39.92\00:31:42.59 I quoted one of them for you, John 1, and I eluded 00:31:42.62\00:31:45.41 to Colossians 1:16,17. If Jesus created the air, 00:31:45.44\00:31:49.52 and Jesus created the water, and the grass, and the birds, 00:31:49.55\00:31:53.28 and the lions, and the whales, and the octopi, 00:31:53.31\00:31:55.91 and the hippopotami, then guess what else Jesus created; 00:31:55.94\00:31:59.58 He created the Sabbath. Doesn't that make sense? 00:31:59.61\00:32:03.95 The same God that made the 1st day, the 2nd day, the 3rd day, 00:32:03.98\00:32:06.99 the 4th day, the 5th day, He didn't switch. 00:32:07.02\00:32:09.96 The same God that made the grass, the giraffes, and all 00:32:09.99\00:32:12.72 of the wonderful things in Eden is the same God that rested. 00:32:12.75\00:32:16.50 It was Jesus, and His Father, and the Spirit working together 00:32:16.53\00:32:20.06 in cooperation. So look at this: Note, not only 00:32:20.09\00:32:27.22 was Jesus the creator in Eden, He was the law giver 00:32:27.25\00:32:31.49 on Mount Sinai. Many Christians do not know this 00:32:31.52\00:32:35.21 and it's staggering how few Christians know that the very 00:32:35.24\00:32:38.09 God who was on Mount Sinai's summit, the very God who wrote 00:32:38.12\00:32:41.17 with His own finger on table's of stone, that was Jesus Christ. 00:32:41.20\00:32:45.31 Remember, Moses was walking through the desert in Mideon 00:32:45.34\00:32:47.60 and he saw that burning bush and the burning bush spoke 00:32:47.63\00:32:51.06 and said "Go tell that rascal, Pharaoh, to let My people go". 00:32:51.09\00:32:53.92 He said "They're not going to believe, who shall I say" 00:32:53.95\00:32:56.19 "sent me?" and he said: "I am that I am has sent you." 00:32:56.22\00:33:01.73 Jesus one day was speaking to the religious leaders of His day 00:33:01.76\00:33:04.53 and He said "Why don't you guys just accept Me?" 00:33:04.56\00:33:07.46 "I mean, your father, Abraham, rejoiced to see My day," 00:33:07.49\00:33:10.22 "and he was glad", and they said "What?!" 00:33:10.25\00:33:12.73 "You've got to be kidding, Abraham? You're not even" 00:33:12.76\00:33:15.55 "50 years old, you don't even have any hair on your face," 00:33:15.58\00:33:18.40 "how could You possibly have seen the day of Abraham?" 00:33:18.43\00:33:21.30 He said "You listen to me men, you listen very carefully" 00:33:21.33\00:33:24.08 "to what I'm going to say: before Abraham was I am." 00:33:24.11\00:33:28.50 Did the Jews understand what He was saying? 00:33:28.53\00:33:31.49 Yeah, John 8:59 says they picked up stones, they were going 00:33:31.52\00:33:34.19 to kill Him because they knew He was saying "I'm the God" 00:33:34.22\00:33:37.18 "of the Old Testament, I'm the one who was on Mount Sinai," 00:33:37.21\00:33:40.97 "I'm the one who appeared to Moses, I'm the law giver." 00:33:41.00\00:33:47.00 So powerful, I wish I had time to look more at that, 00:33:47.03\00:33:49.79 but I just don't, so let's continue on. 00:33:49.82\00:33:51.94 This is why Jesus Christ repeatedly affirmed that He 00:33:51.97\00:33:55.53 was Lord of the Sabbath, after all, He's the one 00:33:55.56\00:34:00.39 who invented it, He created it, He commanded it. 00:34:00.42\00:34:03.53 Look at Matthew 12:8: [text on screen] 00:34:03.56\00:34:07.11 Those are the words of Jesus, how about Mark 2:28? 00:34:09.38\00:34:12.89 [text on screen] 00:34:12.92\00:34:15.20 Just like He's Lord of the grass, He's Lord of 00:34:15.91\00:34:18.50 the giraffes, He's Lord of the whales, He's Lord of 00:34:18.53\00:34:21.34 the Sabbath, He made them all. He's also the Lord of man. 00:34:21.37\00:34:24.08 Luke 6:5: [text on screen] 00:34:24.11\00:34:26.82 Jesus says that over and over again. 00:34:27.45\00:34:30.25 Jesus often healed on the Sabbath, we already looked 00:34:30.28\00:34:33.53 at that story in Luke 13, where He healed that woman 00:34:33.56\00:34:36.15 and the man speaks up and says "Whoa, whoa, there are 6 days" 00:34:36.18\00:34:38.95 "on which men ought to labor, come then and be healed" 00:34:38.98\00:34:41.77 "on those days", and Jesus says "You're a hypocrite," 00:34:41.80\00:34:44.54 "you're an actor, everyone of you who has a donkey" 00:34:44.57\00:34:47.26 "or an ox that falls into the ditch, you lift it out." 00:34:47.29\00:34:50.22 "Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham" 00:34:50.25\00:34:52.98 "whom Satan has bound, be loosed from this, her burden," 00:34:53.01\00:34:55.83 "on the Sabbath?" Jesus used the Sabbath 00:34:55.86\00:34:58.41 to show that the Sabbath was a special day created by God 00:34:58.44\00:35:01.28 for man's uplifting, for his up building, and for his healing 00:35:01.31\00:35:04.10 and recreation, and redemption. 00:35:04.13\00:35:06.48 In fact, one of the things that Jesus came to do was to 00:35:06.51\00:35:09.52 disentangle the Sabbath from all of those pathetic and stifling 00:35:09.55\00:35:12.62 rules that the Pharisees and the scribes had heaped upon it. 00:35:12.65\00:35:16.80 In fact, that's right in your study guide there, it says: 00:35:16.83\00:35:19.90 But how did Jesus relate to the Sabbath when He walked 00:35:19.93\00:35:23.66 as a man on this planet? Look at Luke 4:16. 00:35:23.69\00:35:29.40 You've got your Bibles, third book of the New Testament, 00:35:29.43\00:35:32.39 see if you can keep up with me, Luke 4:16, you're doing a great 00:35:32.42\00:35:35.47 job by the way. 00:35:35.50\00:35:37.54 Luke 4:16, look at this, this is incredible. 00:35:37.57\00:35:43.33 Luke 4:16: "So He came to Nazareth where He had been" 00:35:43.36\00:35:50.45 "brought up, and as His custom was, He went into the synagogue" 00:35:50.48\00:35:54.93 "on the Sabbath day and He stood up to read." 00:35:54.96\00:35:59.39 So if it was Sabbath and you wanted to find Jesus 00:35:59.42\00:36:02.33 where would you go? You'd go to the synagogue, 00:36:02.36\00:36:05.05 that's right, because that's where He was, that was 00:36:05.08\00:36:07.95 His custom. You say: "Oh yeah, I'm looking for the Jesus," 00:36:07.98\00:36:10.68 "have you guys seen Jesus?" "Oh yeah, it's Sabbath" 00:36:10.71\00:36:13.31 "my friend, He's in the synagogue." 00:36:13.34\00:36:15.92 That's His custom, of course that's where He's going to be, 00:36:15.95\00:36:18.68 so Jesus actually, as a man, observed and kept the Sabbath. 00:36:18.71\00:36:21.54 We're continuing on, it says: Note that Jesus performed 00:36:21.57\00:36:24.33 many of His most powerful miracles on the Sabbath. 00:36:24.36\00:36:27.03 This was to show that the Sabbath was for the benefit 00:36:27.06\00:36:29.69 of man, He removed it from all of the traditions that 00:36:29.72\00:36:34.19 the religious leaders, the scribes and the Pharisees, 00:36:34.22\00:36:37.66 had entangled it with. He came to show that it's 00:36:37.69\00:36:40.29 a blessing, that's it a glorious, wonderful day 00:36:40.32\00:36:42.86 for the creation and recreation. By the way, I keep saying 00:36:42.89\00:36:45.75 that word "re-creation", slow it down, "re-creation" 00:36:45.78\00:36:48.56 is recreation, have you ever thought of that before? 00:36:48.59\00:36:51.33 "Recreation" is just 2 words, it's just the re-creation, 00:36:51.36\00:36:54.14 it's a day of renewal and re-creation, God is making you 00:36:54.17\00:36:58.77 into what He is originally created you to be, that's why 00:36:58.80\00:37:01.40 all true creation should draw us closer to God, our Creator. 00:37:01.43\00:37:06.54 Last paragraph: In fact, Jesus, in His death, even kept 00:37:06.57\00:37:11.06 the Sabbath. You say "What? He kept the Sabbath" 00:37:11.09\00:37:13.88 "in His death?" You're still in Luke, look at 00:37:13.91\00:37:16.29 Luke 23. Someone's out there thinking 00:37:16.32\00:37:18.93 "Oh yeah, I see it, I see it plain as the noonday sun." 00:37:18.96\00:37:21.75 but how do you know what day the Sabbath is. 00:37:21.78\00:37:24.49 Listen, I presented this message enough times to know 00:37:24.52\00:37:27.16 that there's at least half of the people in here thinking 00:37:27.19\00:37:29.99 "Well how do you know what day the Sabbath is?" 00:37:30.02\00:37:32.98 "How do we know? How could it possibly be?" 00:37:33.01\00:37:35.66 "How do we know what day it is?" Well, I'll show you how we know, 00:37:35.69\00:37:38.36 Luke 23, I want to give you a Bible answer, 00:37:38.39\00:37:40.92 that's the answer you want anyway, isn't it? 00:37:40.95\00:37:43.53 - [Audience] Yes. - Okay, we're in Luke 23, 00:37:43.56\00:37:46.52 here we find the story of the crucifixion. 00:37:46.55\00:37:49.51 We'll pick it up in verse 53: "Then he took it down", 00:37:49.54\00:37:52.43 speaking of the body of Jesus...actually, let's pick 00:37:52.46\00:37:55.33 it up in verse 50. "Now behold, there was a man" 00:37:55.36\00:37:57.97 "named Joseph, a council member, a good and a just man," 00:37:58.00\00:38:00.90 "he had not consented to their decision indeed, and he was" 00:38:00.93\00:38:03.68 "from Arimathaea who himself was also waiting for the kingdom" 00:38:03.71\00:38:06.45 "of God. This man went to Pilate and he asked for the body" 00:38:06.48\00:38:09.10 "of Jesus, then he took it down, wrapped it in linen" 00:38:09.13\00:38:11.64 "and he laid it in his tomb that was hewn out of the rock" 00:38:11.67\00:38:14.30 "where no one had ever been lain before. That day was" 00:38:14.33\00:38:17.04 "the preparation and the Sabbath drew near." 00:38:17.07\00:38:19.82 Jesus was crucified on what day of the week? 00:38:19.85\00:38:22.74 As we say "Friday", that's exactly right, Friday, 00:38:22.77\00:38:25.65 "Good Friday", so the preparation day is Friday. 00:38:25.68\00:38:28.46 "The Sabbath drew near", verse 55, "and the women" 00:38:28.49\00:38:31.25 "who had come with him from Galilee followed after," 00:38:31.28\00:38:34.18 "and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid." 00:38:34.21\00:38:36.82 You know how the ladies are, they wanted to make sure 00:38:36.85\00:38:39.60 it was just right, of course they were devastated, 00:38:39.63\00:38:42.34 they were crushed, they were bruised and beaten in their 00:38:42.37\00:38:45.21 souls, but they wanted to make sure that everything was just 00:38:45.24\00:38:47.72 right, watch what happens in the last verse: "Then they returned" 00:38:47.75\00:38:50.56 "and prepared spices and fragrant oils and they rested" 00:38:50.59\00:38:53.18 "on the Sabbath according to the commandment." 00:38:53.21\00:38:55.99 These were the disciples of Jesus, these women were 00:38:56.02\00:38:58.91 the disciples of Jesus. Sometimes you'll hear people 00:38:58.94\00:39:01.62 say "Jesus did away with the Sabbath", wait a minute, 00:39:01.65\00:39:04.24 "Jesus did away with the Sabbath", you won't find that 00:39:04.27\00:39:07.02 anywhere in your Bible, in fact, you find that anywhere 00:39:07.05\00:39:10.02 in your Bible, I'll give you $10,000 cash; no way, 00:39:10.05\00:39:12.84 it's not in there. So these were the very disciples 00:39:12.87\00:39:15.54 of Jesus that come that want to be sure the body is just 00:39:15.57\00:39:18.28 right, and their devastated, "but the Sabbath is coming," 00:39:18.31\00:39:21.22 "we'll come back and finish it after the Sabbath". 00:39:21.25\00:39:23.85 Why? Because they'd been 00:39:23.88\00:39:26.29 the disciples of Jesus for 3 and a half years and they had been 00:39:26.32\00:39:29.13 following His example. So Luke 24:1: 00:39:29.16\00:39:31.68 "Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning" 00:39:31.71\00:39:34.60 "they and certain other women came with them to the tomb," 00:39:34.63\00:39:37.24 "bringing spices and the ointments which they had" 00:39:37.27\00:39:39.79 "prepared", they've come back to finish the job that they 00:39:39.82\00:39:42.46 didn't finish yet, verse 2: "but they found the stone" 00:39:42.49\00:39:45.06 "rolled away from the tomb", someone say "hallelujah". 00:39:45.09\00:39:47.68 - [Audience] Hallelujah. - They went there and the body 00:39:47.71\00:39:50.60 of Jesus wasn't there, He's risen indeed, amen? 00:39:50.63\00:39:53.39 - [Audience] Amen. - Powerful! 00:39:53.42\00:39:55.82 Here's the point: what day did Jesus rise from the dead? 00:39:55.85\00:39:58.44 Sunday, so then the Sabbath would be the day between 00:39:58.47\00:40:01.19 Good Friday and Sunday, that day is Saturday! 00:40:01.22\00:40:05.92 So far so good? No questions? 00:40:05.95\00:40:08.92 I want you to think about something, as we've already 00:40:08.95\00:40:11.40 learned in creation, remember I told you to take the word 00:40:11.43\00:40:14.18 "finish" and hang it on a hook in your mind? 00:40:14.21\00:40:16.81 When everything was created, 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd day, 00:40:16.84\00:40:19.59 4th day, 5th day, 6th day, and all the work was finished, 00:40:19.62\00:40:23.34 then what did He do? He rested. 00:40:23.37\00:40:26.92 John 19:30, Jesus on the cross crying out, His last words 00:40:26.95\00:40:32.70 just after He says "Father, into Your hands I commend" 00:40:32.73\00:40:37.06 "My spirit", and then He cries out with a strong voice 00:40:37.09\00:40:40.61 "It is finished", and then He rests on the Sabbath. 00:40:40.64\00:40:47.27 Just as He rested in creation when the work was finished, 00:40:47.30\00:40:51.07 He rests in redemption when the work was finished, He rested 00:40:51.10\00:40:54.94 in the tomb on the Sabbath. Absolutely powerful. 00:40:54.97\00:41:01.18 Are we all still on our study guides? 00:41:01.21\00:41:03.84 You can write that down just at the bottom of page 3: 00:41:03.87\00:41:06.58 Just as He rested on the day of creation, so He did the same 00:41:06.61\00:41:09.34 in redemption. Hallelujah and hallelujah. 00:41:09.37\00:41:14.59 We're on the back page: But what about the apostles? 00:41:14.62\00:41:17.64 Somebody's bound to say "Oh, wait a minute, the disciples" 00:41:17.67\00:41:21.69 "changed the day David, you missed that part, you forgot" 00:41:21.72\00:41:24.58 "to read the book of Acts", no, I've read the book of Acts 00:41:24.61\00:41:27.38 through dozens of times and I'll tell you again, $10,000, 00:41:27.41\00:41:30.33 cold, hard cash to anyone who can show me any verse 00:41:30.36\00:41:34.38 that even hints at the fact that the day was changed by 00:41:34.41\00:41:37.24 the disciples, and I'm not just whistling dixie. 00:41:37.27\00:41:39.81 $10,000 cash is yours if you can come up with it. 00:41:39.84\00:41:42.51 Jesus Himself had said in Mark 22:27: "The Sabbath was" 00:41:42.54\00:41:45.65 "made for the Jews", sorry, I misread that. 00:41:45.68\00:41:50.07 [text on screen] 00:41:50.10\00:41:52.45 The word "man" there is "anthropos", the study of 00:41:52.48\00:41:56.15 anthropology is the study of man. 00:41:56.18\00:42:00.43 The word there is "The Sabbath was made for mankind, and not" 00:42:00.46\00:42:03.38 "man for the Sabbath". In other words, God made man 00:42:03.41\00:42:06.41 and He had this Sabbath day that He gave, He didn't make this day 00:42:06.44\00:42:09.32 and say "Well, I've got this crummy old day, I better go" 00:42:09.35\00:42:12.06 "find someone to keep it." No, no, no, first He made man 00:42:12.09\00:42:14.96 and then He made that day for him. 00:42:14.99\00:42:17.94 The Sabbath was made for the benefit of man. 00:42:17.97\00:42:20.73 Jesus kept the Sabbath even in His death, He kept it in 00:42:20.76\00:42:23.67 creation, He kept it in redemption. 00:42:23.70\00:42:26.47 [text on screen] 00:42:26.50\00:42:28.58 My wife is Romanian and on Saturday if you want to say 00:42:30.70\00:42:34.62 "Happy Sabbath" you say "Sabat Fericit", "Sabat". 00:42:34.65\00:42:39.25 If I want to say it in Spanish I say "Feliz Sabado". 00:42:39.28\00:42:44.11 In Russian it's what, "Subbota"? Where's Vladimir at? 00:42:44.14\00:42:48.08 Raise your hand, is he in here? Say it in Russian Vladimir? 00:42:48.11\00:42:52.31 Subbota, there you go. 108 language, there's no 00:42:52.34\00:42:55.44 question, in the English language there's a question 00:42:55.47\00:42:58.19 because we say "Saturday" because all of our days, 00:42:58.22\00:43:00.97 by the way, are named after Pagans. 00:43:01.00\00:43:03.47 The "Sunday" was the day of the worship of the sun, 00:43:03.50\00:43:06.35 "Thorday" was the day of the worship for Thor, 00:43:06.38\00:43:09.20 "Saturday" was day of the worship for Saturn, 00:43:09.23\00:43:11.91 "Monday" was the day of the worship for the moon, etc, etc, 00:43:11.94\00:43:14.61 but in every other language "Sabbath" is the day we call 00:43:14.64\00:43:17.41 Saturday, it's a piece of cake for the Spanish, 00:43:17.44\00:43:20.36 it's a piece of cake for others. So let's talk about 00:43:20.39\00:43:23.27 the apostles, I'm on the back page, here we go. 00:43:23.30\00:43:25.93 If you're getting questions in your mind, write those questions 00:43:25.96\00:43:28.66 down because we're going to do our 15-20 minute 00:43:28.69\00:43:31.36 question/answer time right after this, I'll take 00:43:31.39\00:43:33.99 the questions right live from the floor, here we go. 00:43:34.02\00:43:36.67 Not surprisingly, the apostles all kept the Sabbath. 00:43:36.70\00:43:39.29 See for example Acts chapter... and there's so many verses 00:43:39.32\00:43:41.97 here, go to the book of Acts, I'll show you my personal 00:43:42.00\00:43:44.85 favorite, Acts 13. 00:43:44.88\00:43:47.21 Acts 13:13, that's easy to remember, Acts 13:13. 00:43:47.24\00:43:52.31 It says "Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos" 00:43:52.34\00:43:55.53 "they came to Perga in Pamphylia and John departing from there," 00:43:55.56\00:43:58.53 "returned to Jerusalem", verse 14: "But when they" 00:43:58.56\00:44:01.36 "departed from Perga they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and they" 00:44:01.39\00:44:04.21 "went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and they" 00:44:04.24\00:44:06.99 "sat down, and after the reading of the law and the prophets," 00:44:07.02\00:44:09.87 "the rulers of the synagogues said to them saying," 00:44:09.90\00:44:12.48 "Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation" 00:44:12.51\00:44:15.32 "to the people, stay on." They noticed that Paul 00:44:15.35\00:44:18.08 had walked in, they said "Whoa, that's Paul. Hey Paul, if you" 00:44:18.11\00:44:21.02 "have anything you'd like to say to the congregation," 00:44:21.05\00:44:23.77 "the pulpit's all yours, stand up, teach and preach." 00:44:23.80\00:44:26.49 So Paul stands up and preaches a powerful sermon on 00:44:26.52\00:44:29.29 the resurrection of Jesus Christ, here's just a few 00:44:29.32\00:44:32.14 choice verses, look at verse 30: "But God raised Him from" 00:44:32.17\00:44:34.91 "the dead", verse 34, "...and that He raised Him" 00:44:34.94\00:44:37.72 "from the dead", you see that? Acts 13:37, "But He whom God" 00:44:37.75\00:44:44.71 "raised up saw no corruption", verse 38, "Therefore let it be" 00:44:44.74\00:44:48.21 "known to you brethren that through this man is preached" 00:44:48.24\00:44:52.93 "the forgiveness of sins." Look at what he's preaching, 00:44:52.96\00:44:55.76 he's preaching the resurrection, he's preaching the forgiveness 00:44:55.79\00:44:57.87 of sins, verse 39: "...and by Him, Jesus Christ, everyone" 00:44:57.90\00:45:01.42 "who believes is justified from all things from which" 00:45:01.45\00:45:05.48 "they could not be justified by the law of Moses." 00:45:05.51\00:45:07.86 So look at what he's preaching, he's preaching the resurrection, 00:45:07.89\00:45:10.47 he's preaching forgiveness, he's preaching justification. 00:45:10.50\00:45:14.29 Was Paul a New Testament Christian? 00:45:14.32\00:45:17.12 Sure he was, he believed in grace, now jump down to 00:45:17.15\00:45:19.98 verse 42; the sermon must have been a good one because 00:45:20.01\00:45:22.65 in verse 42 it says: "When the Jews went out of the synagogue" 00:45:22.68\00:45:25.60 "the Gentiles", my version says "begged", look at that, 00:45:25.63\00:45:29.42 "the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached" 00:45:29.45\00:45:32.91 "to them on the next Sabbath." They came and said 00:45:32.94\00:45:37.30 "Whoa, Paul, we were listening and we never heard" 00:45:37.33\00:45:40.17 "words like that before, will you please, please, please," 00:45:40.20\00:45:42.95 "we want to hear these great truths, you just preached" 00:45:42.98\00:45:45.71 "next Sabbath". This would have been the perfect 00:45:45.74\00:45:48.34 day for Paul to say "You know what? You don't have" 00:45:48.37\00:45:51.20 "to do that because the day has been changed, in fact, the new" 00:45:51.23\00:45:53.98 "Christian day of day or worship is actually tomorrow," 00:45:54.01\00:45:56.79 "so you don't have to wait all the way until next week," 00:45:56.82\00:45:59.65 "I'll see you tomorrow right here on the new Christian" 00:45:59.68\00:46:02.46 "day of worship." That doesn't happen at all. 00:46:02.49\00:46:05.01 In fact, look what does happen, verse 43: "Now when" 00:46:05.04\00:46:07.79 "the congregation had broken up many of the Jews and devout" 00:46:07.82\00:46:10.68 "proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas speaking to them," 00:46:10.71\00:46:13.64 "persuaded them to continue in the grace of God", 00:46:13.67\00:46:16.64 verse 44: "and on the next Sabbath almost the whole city" 00:46:16.67\00:46:19.39 "came together to hear the word of God." 00:46:19.42\00:46:21.94 I've given you many other verse that you can go look up 00:46:21.97\00:46:24.75 on your own, but it is plain as the noonday sun that every one 00:46:24.78\00:46:27.59 of Jesus' disciples kept the Sabbath. 00:46:27.62\00:46:30.91 Why wouldn't they? After all, every single true 00:46:30.94\00:46:33.62 follower of God - I'm on the study guide now: 00:46:33.65\00:46:36.26 Every single true follower of God from Adam to Abraham, 00:46:36.29\00:46:40.54 and from Abraham to Moses, and from Moses to Jesus, 00:46:40.57\00:46:43.58 and from Jesus to the apostles kept that special day 00:46:43.61\00:46:47.20 as a memorial of creation and redemption. 00:46:47.23\00:46:50.12 You can't name one follower of God in the Bible that didn't 00:46:50.15\00:46:52.84 keep the Sabbath. There's not one of them, 00:46:52.87\00:46:56.94 every single person in the Bible that was a follower of the true 00:46:56.97\00:47:01.10 God was a Sabbath keeper, isn't that powerful? 00:47:01.13\00:47:04.53 So hey, how many of you today want to be followers 00:47:04.56\00:47:07.41 of the true God? Then you're in good company 00:47:07.44\00:47:10.40 if you chose to keep the Sabbath as well. 00:47:10.43\00:47:13.26 Look at this, "Wow, I didn't know that", study guide: 00:47:13.29\00:47:16.18 The Sabbath is all about Jesus Christ and our relationship 00:47:16.21\00:47:20.18 with Him, that's what it's all about. 00:47:20.21\00:47:24.41 It's all about our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:47:24.44\00:47:27.13 yet despite the overwhelming evidence many Christians still 00:47:27.16\00:47:30.11 believe that the Bible teaches Sunday observance, they base 00:47:30.14\00:47:33.31 this on 3 main texts. [text on screen] 00:47:33.34\00:47:41.83 Despite the overwhelming evidence that we presented 00:47:44.24\00:47:47.11 here, and by the way, I'm not just whistling dixie, I'm not 00:47:47.14\00:47:49.85 just kidding about this $10,000 thing, I make that as a solemn 00:47:49.88\00:47:52.58 promise to you before the Lord, you find me any text 00:47:52.61\00:47:55.54 that indicates even at all that the Sabbath has been changed, 00:47:55.57\00:47:58.23 first come first serve, $10,000 is yours, I'm not just 00:47:58.26\00:48:01.01 whistling dixie. Despite the overwhelming 00:48:01.04\00:48:03.57 evidence some people say "No, no, surely it's in there" 00:48:03.60\00:48:06.35 "somewhere", and there are 3 verses that are used to prove 00:48:06.38\00:48:09.41 Sunday observance, these are the 3 verses; some of you 00:48:09.44\00:48:12.43 are thinking "I never heard this before, I'm going to go back" 00:48:12.46\00:48:15.07 "and ask my pastor", nothing wrong with asking your pastor, 00:48:15.10\00:48:17.98 especially if he's a good man, a Godly man that you trust, 00:48:18.01\00:48:20.83 but let me just give you one word of advice: we should go 00:48:20.86\00:48:23.59 to the Bible and be checking our pastors out with the Bible, 00:48:23.62\00:48:26.31 not the Bible out with our pastors. 00:48:26.34\00:48:29.14 Listen, nobody believes in going to spiritual leaders 00:48:29.17\00:48:31.87 and spiritual mentors more than me, but I want to tell you 00:48:31.90\00:48:34.63 something: if you came up to me and you showed me 00:48:34.66\00:48:37.28 a plain "...thus sayeth the Lord", and I was like 00:48:37.31\00:48:40.09 "Well, I'm not going to follow it", then you should say 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.70 "Hey listen, I'm going somewhere else." 00:48:42.73\00:48:45.48 Nothing wrong with having a Godly spiritual mentor, we need 00:48:45.51\00:48:48.20 more Godly spiritual mentors, but just because many of you, 00:48:48.23\00:48:50.93 I know, are thinking "I can't wait to ask my pastor" 00:48:50.96\00:48:53.65 "about this", listen, ask your pastor about it, but let me 00:48:53.68\00:48:56.37 just be honest with you about something: we need to be 00:48:56.40\00:48:59.29 in the habit of checking our pastors out by the word, 00:48:59.32\00:49:02.18 and not the word out by our pastors; that applies to me, 00:49:02.21\00:49:04.88 by the way, in fact, that applies to me first and 00:49:04.91\00:49:07.68 foremost because I'm speaking to you so frankly and so boldly. 00:49:07.71\00:49:10.59 These are the 3 verses that you're going to find: 00:49:10.62\00:49:13.49 go with me very quickly to John 20. 00:49:13.52\00:49:16.40 These are the verse you're going to find people are going to say: 00:49:16.43\00:49:19.16 "Oh no, I'll show you, they kept Sunday in the New Testament", 00:49:19.19\00:49:22.01 John 20. Jesus has been crucified 00:49:22.04\00:49:24.72 and the disciples are deadly afraid they've heard that 00:49:24.75\00:49:28.17 the body has turned up missing, they're deadly afraid that 00:49:28.20\00:49:30.94 they're going to be charged, so in John 20:19, 00:49:30.97\00:49:34.26 I want everyone there, John 20;19: "Then the same day" 00:49:34.29\00:49:38.98 "at evening, being the first day of the week", which is? 00:49:39.01\00:49:44.51 Sunday, so Sunday...they say "There it is, there it is" 00:49:44.54\00:49:47.43 "right there, see, Sunday worship." 00:49:47.46\00:49:49.81 Well, keep watching, "...when the doors were shut" 00:49:49.84\00:49:52.60 "the disciples were assembled", there it is, there's a worship 00:49:52.63\00:49:55.32 service, see? Except the problem is 00:49:55.35\00:49:57.72 that there's a comma, not a period, the comma, 00:49:57.75\00:50:00.34 and then it says "...they were assembled for fear" 00:50:00.37\00:50:03.18 "of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst of them" 00:50:03.21\00:50:05.87 "and said, Peace be with you." Beloved, they didn't even yet 00:50:05.90\00:50:08.52 believe in the resurrection when they're in that room, 00:50:08.55\00:50:11.16 they're afraid that they're going to be charged with 00:50:11.19\00:50:13.86 the missing body of Jesus, and they're in that room 00:50:13.89\00:50:16.43 just afraid for fear of the Jews, there's no worship 00:50:16.46\00:50:18.98 service going on there, they're hiding, they're deadly afraid. 00:50:19.01\00:50:23.32 So there's no Sunday worship there. 00:50:23.35\00:50:25.95 Acts 20, you can go to that one, no worship service there, 00:50:25.98\00:50:28.71 1 Corinthians 16 is the only time, the ONLY time 00:50:28.74\00:50:33.01 the apostle Paul in all of his voluminous writings: 00:50:33.04\00:50:35.74 Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 00:50:35.77\00:50:38.47 Thessalonians, Romans, Corinthians, all of Paul's 00:50:38.50\00:50:41.21 voluminous writings, that's the only place he ever mentions 00:50:41.24\00:50:43.77 the first day of the week, and all he says about it is: 00:50:43.80\00:50:46.49 "Hey listen, when I come through town I'm on my way" 00:50:46.52\00:50:49.30 "to Jerusalem, there's a famine in Jerusalem," 00:50:49.33\00:50:52.10 "and I want to take up an offering for those who are" 00:50:52.13\00:50:55.01 "going through difficult times, get all your offerings together" 00:50:55.04\00:50:57.88 "so I can pick it up on the first day of the week" 00:50:57.91\00:51:00.58 "when I'm on my way through." That's it, 00:51:00.61\00:51:03.30 those are the texts. 00:51:03.33\00:51:05.72 I'm telling you right now in the fear of God and in the sight 00:51:05.75\00:51:08.63 of God, there's not 1 scintilla of a hint of an idea 00:51:08.66\00:51:11.55 of a suggestion of anything like Sunday keeping in one 00:51:11.58\00:51:14.44 of those verses. Nothing, nothing, nothing! 00:51:14.47\00:51:17.18 So let's continue then. You notice there on your study 00:51:17.21\00:51:20.34 guide it says: Yet these texts, when read in context, 00:51:20.37\00:51:28.51 always read your Bible in context because there's 00:51:28.54\00:51:32.40 a danger that you're going to be in such a hurry, you're going 00:51:32.43\00:51:35.37 to say "Oh Lord, I'm in a hurry today, I just need You to speak" 00:51:35.40\00:51:38.36 "to me, I need you to speak to me out of Your word," 00:51:38.39\00:51:41.24 "and here we go", and it says "and Judas hung himself." 00:51:41.27\00:51:44.65 You think "Well, that's not really what I was looking for," 00:51:44.68\00:51:47.05 "let's try that again". [Audience laughs] 00:51:47.08\00:51:49.69 "Lord, I need a word from You today." 00:51:49.72\00:51:52.61 "...go thou and do likewise". [Audience laughs] 00:51:52.64\00:51:55.50 "Whoa, that's not what I was looking for", so we say 00:51:55.53\00:51:58.31 "Alright Lord, come on now, I need another word," 00:51:58.34\00:52:01.09 "I need..." [points at Bible verse], "...what thou doest" 00:52:01.12\00:52:04.01 "do quickly". [Audience laughs] 00:52:04.04\00:52:06.74 Beloved, that's not an appropriate way to study 00:52:06.77\00:52:09.57 your Bible, amen? [Audience] Amen. 00:52:09.60\00:52:12.49 You can study the Bible that way, you can make the Bible 00:52:12.52\00:52:15.29 say any old thing you want it to say, but if you want 00:52:15.32\00:52:18.06 to study your Bible responsibly you study it in context. 00:52:18.09\00:52:20.81 So you go look at every one of these verses. 00:52:20.84\00:52:23.58 Listen, that could be $30,000 for you right there, you go 00:52:23.61\00:52:26.44 look at those verses in context, you get every one of those, 00:52:26.47\00:52:29.34 that's $30,000, $10,000 per verse. 00:52:29.37\00:52:31.82 Jesus Christ is pointing us to His holy Sabbath. 00:52:31.85\00:52:34.58 So we ask the question here: "So then who did it?" 00:52:34.61\00:52:37.94 "What happened? I never heard this before," 00:52:37.97\00:52:42.08 "slow down pastor David, what happened?" 00:52:42.11\00:52:46.52 The answer, as we saw at the beginning is this: 00:52:46.55\00:52:49.05 who changed it? God didn't do it, 00:52:49.08\00:52:51.60 "I am the Lord, I change not." In fact, He carved those 00:52:51.63\00:52:54.83 10 commandments out of stone, blue sapphire stone, taken 00:52:54.86\00:52:59.61 from His own throne. We know God didn't do it, 00:52:59.64\00:53:03.62 "I am the Lord, I change not." "Jesus Christ, the same" 00:53:03.65\00:53:07.40 "yesterday, today and forever." Jesus didn't do it. 00:53:07.43\00:53:11.50 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law or" 00:53:11.53\00:53:14.26 "the prophets, I came not to destroy, but to fulfil." 00:53:14.29\00:53:16.79 "For verily I say unto you, until heaven and earth pass" 00:53:16.82\00:53:19.70 "away not one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from" 00:53:19.73\00:53:22.56 "the law." It wasn't Jesus. 00:53:22.59\00:53:24.94 The disciples didn't do it, the disciples were keeping 00:53:24.97\00:53:27.56 the Sabbath all the way through, in fact the Bible says 00:53:27.59\00:53:30.30 in Revelation 1:10, John says "I was in the Spirit" 00:53:30.33\00:53:32.90 "on the Lord's day." Somebody says "there it is," 00:53:32.93\00:53:35.89 "the Lord's day", no, there's only 1 Lord's day in the whole 00:53:35.92\00:53:38.72 Bible, the Lord's day is the day that Jesus is the Lord of, 00:53:38.75\00:53:41.36 and we've already read that, "Therefore the Son of man" 00:53:41.39\00:53:44.02 "is Lord of the Sabbath day." So the Lord's day is His day. 00:53:44.05\00:53:47.60 It's the only day that's the Lord's day in all the Bible, 00:53:47.63\00:53:50.46 so you've got John keeping the Sabbath, you have Jesus 00:53:50.49\00:53:53.11 in Matthew 24:20 says: "Pray that your flight be neither" 00:53:53.14\00:53:55.89 "in the winter nor on the Sabbath day." 00:53:55.92\00:53:58.49 Jesus knew that His crucifixion was just in a few short days 00:53:58.52\00:54:01.56 and when He said that He knew that that destruction 00:54:01.59\00:54:04.24 of Jerusalem would come in 70 AD. 00:54:04.27\00:54:07.10 Jesus was crucified in 31 AD, the destruction of Jerusalem 00:54:07.13\00:54:10.04 was in 70 AD, that's 39 years later, and Jesus says 00:54:10.07\00:54:12.88 "Hey, 39 years later from now when you're keeping the Sabbath" 00:54:12.91\00:54:15.67 "pray that you don't have to flee on that day." 00:54:15.70\00:54:18.27 Jesus knew His disciples would be keeping the Sabbath, 00:54:18.30\00:54:20.91 is that clear? [Audience] Yes. 00:54:20.94\00:54:23.27 Well then who did it? There's our answer: 00:54:23.30\00:54:25.96 [text on screen] 00:54:25.99\00:54:28.02 Who's times? God's times. Who's laws? God's laws. 00:54:32.66\00:54:37.74 That's exactly right, we should have expected that. 00:54:37.77\00:54:40.68 That's exactly what we were told. 00:54:40.71\00:54:42.80 Jesus says "All power is given to Me in heaven and on earth." 00:54:42.83\00:54:46.09 All power, Rome versus Christ, that was the decision 00:54:46.12\00:54:49.94 that the people had to make outside of Pontius' judgment 00:54:49.97\00:54:52.57 hall, they said "Give us Barabbas", their choice was 00:54:52.60\00:54:55.35 "who do you want, do you want Rome or do you want Jesus?" 00:54:55.38\00:54:58.05 They said "We have no king but Caesar". 00:54:58.08\00:55:00.75 The same choice comes down to us today: Is it Rome or Jesus? 00:55:00.78\00:55:04.24 Like I told you, I'm just providing you with the facts, 00:55:04.27\00:55:07.52 what you do with the facts is between you and your Lord, 00:55:07.55\00:55:10.76 but you need to have the facts. A doctor gives you the facts, 00:55:10.79\00:55:13.74 you make your own decisions. According to the book 00:55:13.77\00:55:16.60 of Revelation there will be how many calls to worship? 00:55:16.63\00:55:19.08 2 calls to worship. How many claims on authority? 00:55:19.11\00:55:21.65 2 calls. Okay, there's a slide I want 00:55:21.68\00:55:24.01 to get to, and this is it right here... 00:55:24.04\00:55:27.70 This is right on your study guide, concerning the Sabbath, 00:55:27.73\00:55:30.34 here it is: [text on screen] 00:55:30.37\00:55:34.31 Somebody says to me "Hey, why do you keep the Sabbath?" 00:56:02.33\00:56:05.02 "You trying to be a legalist?" Are you kidding me? 00:56:05.05\00:56:07.77 I'm no legalist, I love the Lord Jesus Christ with all 00:56:07.80\00:56:10.65 my heart and want to do whatever He asks me to do, 00:56:10.68\00:56:13.46 not in order to be saved, but because He's already saved me 00:56:13.49\00:56:16.32 by His grace. 00:56:16.35\00:56:18.44 Somebody says "Hey, why do you keep the Sabbath?" 00:56:18.47\00:56:21.35 I say "If it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me." 00:56:21.38\00:56:24.57 "That's why I keep the Sabbath, because I love the Lord." 00:56:24.60\00:56:27.39 Jesus said in John 14:15: "If you love Me, keep My" 00:56:27.42\00:56:30.08 "commandments." Beloved, tonight you've been 00:56:30.11\00:56:32.95 given information, I want you to know that I believe with every 00:56:32.98\00:56:35.92 ounce of my heart that the infrmation that's been given 00:56:35.95\00:56:38.68 to you tonight is true and Biblical, but I'm just a man 00:56:38.71\00:56:41.33 and men can be wrong, so that's why I challenge you 00:56:41.36\00:56:43.96 to go home, to study it out for yourself to see if what I've 00:56:43.99\00:56:46.60 said is true, and if it is true, by the grace of God, 00:56:46.63\00:56:49.41 say with Joshua "as for and my house, we will serve the Lord." 00:56:49.44\00:56:58.95 2 questions, Nr.1: was tonight's presentation clear? 00:56:58.98\00:57:01.94 [Audience] Yes. And Nr.2: Will you go and check it 00:57:01.97\00:57:04.46 out for yourself? [Audience] Yes. 00:57:04.49\00:57:06.94 Let's pray. Father in heaven, tonight 00:57:06.97\00:57:13.06 we present ourselves to You, Father. 00:57:13.09\00:57:16.57 If this is true we want to live it, we want to know it, 00:57:16.60\00:57:19.49 we want to love it, so Father, give us a sense from Your word, 00:57:19.52\00:57:23.77 not from a feeling, not from some church, not from some 00:57:23.80\00:57:26.42 tradition, from Your word what's truth. 00:57:26.45\00:57:30.80 We thank You for Your goodness to us God, You are good, 00:57:30.83\00:57:33.20 we're nothing, You're good, we're dust, You're good. 00:57:33.23\00:57:37.24 You are our creator and redeemer and we turn our lives 00:57:37.27\00:57:39.94 over to You. You made us, You manufactured 00:57:39.97\00:57:42.68 us, You love us, You redeemed us, we're Yours, everything 00:57:42.71\00:57:45.55 we have is Yours, our money is Yours, our check book 00:57:45.58\00:57:48.14 is Yours, our cars are Yours, are children are Yours, 00:57:48.17\00:57:50.86 everything is Yours. God, teach us how to render 00:57:50.89\00:57:53.47 to you what is already Yours. Soften and transform our hearts 00:57:53.50\00:58:00.23 to Your glory, in Jesus name, amen. 00:58:00.26\00:58:04.66
