What are we going to begin by doing? 00:00:15.49\00:00:17.96 - [Audience] Praying. - Praying, so let's 00:00:17.99\00:00:20.37 do that together. Father in heaven, we come 00:00:20.40\00:00:22.96 before You this evening and we are thrilled, You have 00:00:22.99\00:00:26.25 put a joy in our hearts. Father, we ask that as we 00:00:26.28\00:00:28.95 open Your word tonight, that You would open our hearts 00:00:28.98\00:00:31.77 that we may understand with clarity and with accuracy 00:00:31.80\00:00:34.81 the great things that You are teaching us out of Your word. 00:00:34.84\00:00:38.28 Father, please, may we tonight have an experience, 00:00:38.31\00:00:41.36 an extraordinary experience with You, not because 00:00:41.39\00:00:43.57 of a man, but because of the man, Jesus Christ. 00:00:43.60\00:00:47.28 So please Father, be with us now as we open Your word 00:00:47.31\00:00:49.87 in Jesus' name, let everyone say amen. 00:00:49.90\00:00:53.69 Okay, let's begin with just a little bit of review 00:00:53.72\00:00:56.40 and we'll look to the screen. Last night we did: 00:00:56.43\00:00:59.02 "The Actual, Certain, Definite, Unavoidable Identity" 00:00:59.05\00:01:03.58 "of the Antichrist Figure. " We saw from the Bible 00:01:03.61\00:01:06.04 that the Antichristian figure is none other than the Roman 00:01:06.07\00:01:09.12 church-state, it fits all of the identifying characteristics 00:01:09.15\00:01:12.40 and we gave you 10 of them. It was a little kingdom, 00:01:12.43\00:01:14.82 it came up among them, after them, plucked up 3 and was 00:01:14.85\00:01:19.30 diverse, or different from the others. 00:01:19.33\00:01:21.37 Those are the first 5, then it had a prominent man 00:01:21.40\00:01:23.65 at its head that guided it and spoke for it, 00:01:23.68\00:01:26.38 spoke words of blasphemy, you remember the 3 Biblical 00:01:26.41\00:01:28.83 definitions of blasphemy: claims to be able to forgive 00:01:28.86\00:01:31.33 sins, claims to be God on earth, and persecutes the people 00:01:31.36\00:01:34.37 of God in the name of God, all of those are met 00:01:34.40\00:01:37.25 by that power. Then it would think to change 00:01:37.28\00:01:39.52 times and laws, but not just some Sterling Heights Ordinance, 00:01:39.55\00:01:43.19 it would think to change the very times and laws of God, 00:01:43.22\00:01:47.11 and that's what we're going to talk about tonight, 00:01:47.14\00:01:48.44 and then ruled for 1260 prophetic days or literal years. 00:01:48.47\00:01:53.31 So let's go to Daniel 7:25 again, this is review, 00:01:53.34\00:01:56.50 but just listen to this powerful verse describing part 00:01:56.53\00:01:59.99 of the enterprises of this Antichrist, Antichristian power. 00:02:00.02\00:02:04.56 It says: [text on screen] 00:02:04.59\00:02:07.03 That's one of the identifying characteristics, so we put 00:02:18.57\00:02:21.54 this up on the screen last night, let's read it again 00:02:21.57\00:02:24.19 quickly. This is from Lucious Ferarris' 00:02:24.22\00:02:26.68 Prompta Bibliotheca, an article entitled "Papa", 00:02:26.71\00:02:29.40 literally scores, probably hundreds and thousands 00:02:29.43\00:02:32.27 of references just like this could be given, but I just 00:02:32.30\00:02:35.06 give you this one very quickly: [text on screen] 00:02:35.09\00:02:39.49 There might not be any problem with explaining or interpreting, 00:02:42.96\00:02:45.98 but there would be a significant problem with this word 00:02:46.01\00:02:48.81 right here: "modify". What does the word "modify" mean? 00:02:48.84\00:02:51.62 It means to change, that's exactly what Daniel 7:25 said, 00:02:51.65\00:02:54.60 that he would think to change the very times and laws of God. 00:02:54.63\00:02:57.09 [text on screen] 00:02:57.12\00:02:59.70 Go to your study guide and let's begin with our 2 part 00:03:07.78\00:03:11.72 series entitled "The Rock That Simply Will Not Role". 00:03:11.75\00:03:14.68 I want to let you know, when we come back together 00:03:14.71\00:03:17.26 on Thursday night we have an extremely important 00:03:17.29\00:03:23.87 and exciting announcement that we're going to be making, 00:03:23.90\00:03:27.43 and I'm not very good at keeping secrets that I'm excited about, 00:03:27.46\00:03:30.57 but I'm not going to spill the beans tonight, 00:03:30.60\00:03:32.33 so Thursday night we have an exciting announcement. 00:03:32.36\00:03:36.01 It's not just the message, it's an announcement, and it involves 00:03:36.04\00:03:38.68 Scott Moore, the young man who was just up here, 00:03:38.71\00:03:41.53 I'll tell you more about it on Thursday, but let's go 00:03:41.56\00:03:44.13 to our study guide. It says: We live in a time 00:03:44.16\00:03:46.63 in which very few things are solid and lasting. 00:03:46.66\00:03:49.47 The promises and pledges of politicians are fleeting, 00:03:49.50\00:03:52.87 the moral values of society are increasingly in flux, 00:03:52.90\00:03:57.14 the economy can be strong, then weak, then strong again 00:03:57.17\00:04:01.08 all in a short time. Even the most stable and secure 00:04:01.11\00:04:04.72 jobs can be lost in a moment, and I probably should have added 00:04:04.75\00:04:07.58 "especially in Michigan". ... and a seemingly stable 00:04:07.61\00:04:11.90 marriage can fall to pieces in short order. 00:04:11.93\00:04:15.04 Life is unstable, uncertain and prone to dramatic 00:04:15.07\00:04:18.87 upheavals. Life is characterized by change 00:04:18.90\00:04:21.89 more than stability, yet the human heart longs for solidity 00:04:21.92\00:04:27.57 and stability. In this lesson we will see 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.54 that there is a source of unmovable and unshakable 00:04:30.57\00:04:33.32 stability, we will see that there is something that can 00:04:33.35\00:04:36.24 be trusted to last, even through life's uncertain times 00:04:36.27\00:04:39.91 and storms, an anchor, a rock that won't roll. 00:04:39.94\00:04:45.10 Tradition or Scripture? I'd like to draw your 00:04:45.13\00:04:47.58 attention to a quotation that is on the screen, this is taken 00:04:47.61\00:04:51.22 from Adrian Nampon's "Doctrine Defined by the Council of Trent" 00:04:51.25\00:04:54.41 and this is what the Roman church-state says: 00:04:54.44\00:04:57.07 [text on screen] 00:04:57.10\00:04:59.23 Notice that: there is a foundation, there is a bedrock, 00:05:05.00\00:05:08.08 upon which the church is built, this is the claim of the Roman 00:05:08.11\00:05:11.07 church-state, but that bedrock is tradition and is not 00:05:11.10\00:05:15.75 Scripture. Now look at the subheading: 00:05:15.78\00:05:18.05 Tradition or Scripture? There are many differences 00:05:18.08\00:05:21.35 that separate the Roman church-state from Scripture 00:05:21.38\00:05:23.96 based believers, but the central difference is found 00:05:23.99\00:05:27.31 in the desperate emphases put on tradition versus Scripture, 00:05:27.34\00:05:33.50 and that is essential. Tradition versus Scripture. 00:05:33.53\00:05:38.68 One camp has the former has the foundation, the other camp 00:05:38.71\00:05:42.46 has the latter. The word "tradition" occurs 00:05:42.49\00:05:48.96 guess how many times in the Bible, somebody take a guess. 00:05:48.99\00:05:52.16 Hundred times? No. Zero? No. 00:05:52.19\00:05:54.43 13 times. 13 times in the Bible, 00:05:54.46\00:05:58.66 and only 2 of them are positive in context, in other words 00:05:58.69\00:06:02.00 13 times in the Bible, all of them in the New Testament 00:06:02.03\00:06:04.73 and only 2 of them are positive. In other words, tradition 00:06:04.76\00:06:08.21 in a Scriptural context you find was consistently something 00:06:08.24\00:06:12.09 negative, now, we'll talk about what makes for a good 00:06:12.12\00:06:14.69 tradition, and what makes for a bad tradition 00:06:14.72\00:06:16.89 in just a moment, not all traditions are bad. 00:06:16.92\00:06:19.52 It goes on to say: consider, for example, the following text, 00:06:19.55\00:06:22.05 there are many texts there: Matthew 15, but look at this one 00:06:22.08\00:06:25.16 here, Mark 7:13, Jesus speaking, He was speaking to the religious 00:06:25.19\00:06:29.77 leaders of His day who had established various traditions 00:06:29.80\00:06:34.02 that caused them to actually ignore and neglect the words 00:06:34.05\00:06:38.42 and the law of God. Jesus said: [text on screen] 00:06:38.45\00:06:42.90 So notice, in Jesus' mind when Scripture and tradition 00:06:50.86\00:06:54.57 came into conflict, when the word of God and tradition came 00:06:54.60\00:06:57.85 into conflict which one was given precedence? 00:06:57.88\00:07:00.66 Which one was given priority? Scripture of course. 00:07:00.69\00:07:03.67 He said "Hey listen, you guys make of none effect" 00:07:03.70\00:07:06.92 "the words of God by your traditions that you've handed" 00:07:06.95\00:07:09.91 "down from generation to generation", He said 00:07:09.94\00:07:12.38 "You do this about many things. " 00:07:12.41\00:07:14.33 There are several passages there 00:07:14.37\00:07:15.34 that you can look up in your own time, but what you find 00:07:15.35\00:07:18.23 in these passages is that tradition in this context 00:07:18.26\00:07:20.94 is not given a positive connotation. 00:07:20.97\00:07:23.23 Notice the last paragraph on the study guide. 00:07:23.26\00:07:25.86 There is nothing wrong with traditions per se. 00:07:25.89\00:07:30.75 For example, one of the traditions that we have 00:07:31.03\00:07:33.74 in the family that I grew up in is every Christmas 00:07:33.77\00:07:36.33 morning my mum would make these things called sticky buns. 00:07:36.36\00:07:39.90 You know what sticky buns are? 00:07:39.93\00:07:42.62 I tell you! My mouth's salivating right now just 00:07:42.65\00:07:45.40 thinking about them. They were probably 100% 00:07:45.43\00:07:48.13 bad for you, but there was so much motherly love in them 00:07:48.16\00:07:53.18 that we never died from eating them, and they were 00:07:53.21\00:07:55.93 just basically sugar, and white bread, and butter, 00:07:55.96\00:07:58.80 and cinnamon, and yum! And every December 25th 00:07:58.83\00:08:01.72 you just [makes sniffing sound], 00:08:01.75\00:08:04.08 we were excited about the presents, but I was more 00:08:04.11\00:08:06.65 excited about those sticky buns, anything wrong with that 00:08:06.68\00:08:09.24 tradition? [Audience] No. 00:08:09.27\00:08:11.31 No, because that tradition doesn't go against the law 00:08:11.34\00:08:14.11 of God, that tradition doesn't go against the Bible. 00:08:14.14\00:08:16.87 Are we clear on that? [Audience] Yes. 00:08:16.90\00:08:19.65 But the problem comes when you have a tradition, or an idea, 00:08:19.68\00:08:22.64 that comes into conflict with what God says. 00:08:22.67\00:08:25.38 In that circumstance what God says must not be made 00:08:25.41\00:08:28.09 subordinate to a tradition. Nothing wrong with traditions, 00:08:28.12\00:08:30.80 every night we have a tradition here: we have our little guys 00:08:30.83\00:08:33.61 come up and they do their introduction, they smile 00:08:33.64\00:08:36.30 with their pearly whites, Nate tries not to look awkward 00:08:36.33\00:08:39.08 in an awkward situation, it's kind of a little tradition 00:08:39.11\00:08:41.71 of ours, nothing wrong with that tradition, 00:08:41.74\00:08:44.45 but if that tradition was somehow in conflict with God's 00:08:44.48\00:08:47.26 word then we would have to somehow jettison the tradition 00:08:47.29\00:08:50.03 and keep the Bible, does that make sense everyone? 00:08:50.06\00:08:52.70 [Audience] Yes. Okay, so let's continue. 00:08:52.73\00:08:55.35 There's nothing wrong with traditions per se, 00:08:55.38\00:08:58.26 but when traditions conflict with the commandments of God 00:08:58.29\00:09:01.10 there is a problem. One must be made subordinate 00:09:01.13\00:09:03.90 to the other. The Roman church-state 00:09:03.93\00:09:06.54 makes Scripture bow to tradition. 00:09:06.57\00:09:08.99 While Scripture based believers, of which I am one, 00:09:09.02\00:09:11.65 would insist that traditions bow to God's command and word. 00:09:11.68\00:09:14.57 This is the essential difference between these 2 camps. 00:09:14.60\00:09:17.26 There are many differences, but the essential difference 00:09:17.29\00:09:20.24 that separates adherence to the Roman church-state's 00:09:20.27\00:09:22.93 philosophy and the Scripture based philosophy is: 00:09:22.96\00:09:25.83 what prominence, what position do we give to tradition? 00:09:25.86\00:09:29.35 Again, I want to emphasize, there is nothing wrong 00:09:29.38\00:09:32.29 with tradition so long as those traditions do not go over 00:09:32.32\00:09:35.38 and against what God's word says, are we all clear on that? 00:09:35.41\00:09:39.01 Top of the second page. It is significant to note 00:09:39.04\00:09:41.87 that the word "law" occurs approximately... guess how 00:09:41.90\00:09:45.08 many times... 500 times in the Bible. 00:09:45.11\00:09:49.09 Think about that, the word "law" occurs some 500 times, 00:09:49.12\00:09:52.38 how many times did I say the word "tradition" occurs? 00:09:52.41\00:09:55.22 13 times. The word "commandments" 00:09:55.25\00:09:58.13 occurs some 350 times, the simple difference 00:09:58.16\00:10:02.83 in numerical occurrence between "tradition" and "law" 00:10:02.86\00:10:06.43 commandments is telling indeed. 00:10:06.46\00:10:08.45 In other words, just from that even if you didn't look up 00:10:08.48\00:10:11.31 any of the verses you have "law" 500 times; 00:10:11.34\00:10:14.40 "commandments" 350 times; "tradition" 13 times, 00:10:14.43\00:10:18.53 of which only 2 are positive, that tells you that tradition 00:10:18.56\00:10:22.57 is going to be made subordinate to the word of God. 00:10:22.60\00:10:28.31 "The Antichrist and God's law" is the subheading on page 2 00:10:28.34\00:10:31.04 of the study guide. Last lesson we learned 00:10:31.07\00:10:33.93 that one of the identifying characteristics of 00:10:33.96\00:10:35.64 the Antichrist is that he would intend to change times and laws. 00:10:35.67\00:10:43.98 Think of it! The Antichrist is so bold 00:10:44.01\00:10:47.33 as to think that it can change the very law of God. 00:10:47.36\00:10:50.60 Can this power actually change the law of God? Yes or no. 00:10:50.63\00:10:54.47 [Audience] No. No, in order to change 00:10:54.50\00:10:57.12 the law of God you'd have to go to heaven, somehow you'd 00:10:57.15\00:11:00.13 have to figure out how to get there, then you'd have to go 00:11:00.16\00:11:02.95 up to God, take Him off of His throne and then change 00:11:02.98\00:11:05.79 His law. No man can do that, 00:11:05.82\00:11:08.23 no power can do that, no church can do that, no tradition 00:11:08.26\00:11:11.97 that he does change the law of God, but that he intends 00:11:12.01\00:11:15.71 to change, or King James says he "thinks to change the times" 00:11:15.74\00:11:20.00 "and laws of God", but even to intend this is amazing enough. 00:11:20.03\00:11:24.38 Now, with this sort of backdrop in your mind, go with me 00:11:24.41\00:11:27.19 to the book of Revelation, and I want to show you 00:11:27.22\00:11:30.17 a fascinating contrast. We go to the book of 00:11:30.20\00:11:32.90 Revelation 12, and I want you to notice 00:11:32.93\00:11:39.01 this remarkable contrast. We've already spent a whole lot 00:11:39.04\00:11:42.42 of time in Revelation 12, we're going to spend a whole lot 00:11:42.45\00:11:45.56 more time there, but I want to direct your attention 00:11:45.59\00:11:48.19 to the final climax of all of Revelation 12, incidentally, 00:11:48.22\00:11:51.87 as I've already told you, many scholars and commentators 00:11:51.90\00:11:54.56 believe that Revelation 12 is the climax of the whole book. 00:11:54.59\00:11:57.70 So if Revelation 12:17 is the pinnacle of Revelation 12, 00:11:57.73\00:12:00.56 and Revelation 12 is the pinnacle of the whole book 00:12:00.59\00:12:03.40 then that would tell you that this would be the pinnacle verse 00:12:03.43\00:12:06.38 of the whole book. Look at the verse, 00:12:06.41\00:12:09.23 Revelation 12:17, it says: "And the Dragon", 00:12:09.26\00:12:14.64 who's the Dragon? Satan. 00:12:14.67\00:12:16.91 "And Satan was enraged with the woman", who's the woman 00:12:16.95\00:12:21.54 in Bible prophecy? God's true church. 00:12:21.57\00:12:24.25 "And he went to make war with the rest of her offspring" 00:12:24.28\00:12:27.13 "who keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony" 00:12:27.16\00:12:32.61 "of Jesus Christ. " In other words, the dragon 00:12:32.64\00:12:35.32 would make this all out, frontal assault on God's last day 00:12:35.35\00:12:39.86 people, and John says these last day people keep 00:12:39.89\00:12:44.32 God's commandments. Now look at Revelation 14:12. 00:12:44.35\00:12:49.09 You're there in Revelation 12:17, 00:12:49.12\00:12:51.88 look at Revelation 14:12. It says: "Here is the patience", 00:12:51.91\00:12:57.34 or if you prefer, "the endurance of the saints", 00:12:57.37\00:13:01.29 who are the saints everyone? What you should say is: 00:13:01.32\00:13:05.03 "We are!" So who are the saints everyone? 00:13:05.06\00:13:08.54 [Audience] We are. "Here is the endurance" 00:13:08.57\00:13:10.84 "of the saints, here are those who keep the traditions of men", 00:13:10.87\00:13:17.63 no, what does it say? "... here are those who keep" 00:13:17.66\00:13:20.53 "the commandments of God", and they also have faith. 00:13:20.56\00:13:23.80 Now look at those 2 verses, one says the commandments 00:13:23.83\00:13:26.49 of God, and the testimony of Jesus. 00:13:26.52\00:13:29.10 One says they keep the commandments of God 00:13:29.13\00:13:31.72 and they have the faith of Jesus. 00:13:31.75\00:13:34.41 Listen, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus 00:13:34.44\00:13:37.29 go hand in hand. In fact, you can't even keep 00:13:37.32\00:13:39.99 the commandments of God if you don't have faith in Jesus. 00:13:40.02\00:13:42.75 Paul says: "I know that in me that is in my flesh" 00:13:42.78\00:13:45.57 "dwells no good thing", you can't even do one good thing 00:13:45.60\00:13:48.39 without Jesus Christ in your life, and even if you did do 00:13:48.42\00:13:51.10 something good it's probably for selfish reasons, 00:13:51.13\00:13:53.78 and the apostle Paul says: "Should we do evil" 00:13:53.81\00:13:56.62 "that good may come?" Even the best we do 00:13:56.65\00:13:59.45 apart from Christ, is not good enough. 00:13:59.48\00:14:02.34 You need the faith relationship with Jesus, 00:14:02.37\00:14:05.05 and the commandments of God, they go together like 2 legs 00:14:05.08\00:14:07.92 or 2 wings. 00:14:07.95\00:14:10.09 So notice that, now go to Revelation 22. 00:14:10.12\00:14:13.02 Revelation 22:14. How many of you want 00:14:13.05\00:14:15.50 to go to heaven? How many of you want to go 00:14:15.53\00:14:18.05 to the New Jerusalem? Okay, well then guess 00:14:18.08\00:14:20.77 what you're going to be doing, Revelation 22:14: 00:14:20.80\00:14:23.64 "Blessed are those who do His commandments that they may" 00:14:23.67\00:14:26.53 "have the right to the tree of life and may enter through" 00:14:26.56\00:14:29.62 "the gates into the city. " Do you know what city 00:14:29.65\00:14:32.27 that is? That's the New Jerusalem. 00:14:32.30\00:14:34.81 So how many people here tonight want to go to 00:14:34.84\00:14:37.34 the New Jerusalem some day; want to go to heaven? 00:14:37.37\00:14:40.52 Okay, then you're all going to be commandment keepers. 00:14:40.55\00:14:43.36 Not in order to gain the favor of God, but because God 00:14:43.39\00:14:46.26 has already bestowed His favor upon you in the person 00:14:46.29\00:14:49.08 of Jesus Christ. Look at that, 3 verse, 00:14:49.11\00:14:51.64 Revelation 12:17, Revelation 14:12, 00:14:51.67\00:14:54.45 Revelation 22:14. John in Revelation says 00:14:54.48\00:14:57.17 the last day people will keep God's commandments. 00:14:57.20\00:15:00.03 I have a question for you tonight: do you think 00:15:00.06\00:15:02.79 God's last day people are going to keep His commandments? 00:15:02.82\00:15:05.70 That's exactly what the Bible says. 00:15:05.73\00:15:08.37 Now, what's remarkable is that concerning God's law 00:15:08.40\00:15:11.59 one camp says: "do away", and the other 00:15:11.62\00:15:19.27 seeks to honor and obey; that's right on your 00:15:19.30\00:15:21.99 study guide. One camp says "we can modify," 00:15:22.02\00:15:25.34 "change, and interpret the laws of God", and other camp says 00:15:25.37\00:15:28.57 "No, we'll keep God's law by faith, we'll keep God's law" 00:15:28.60\00:15:32.10 "by His grace, we'll keep God's law by His power. " 00:15:32.13\00:15:36.20 So that's a remarkable contrast in Revelation, and we'll see 00:15:36.23\00:15:39.15 that develop further and still further, that God's faithful 00:15:39.18\00:15:42.35 people will be obeying God, and the Antichristian power 00:15:42.38\00:15:46.00 will be seeking to do away with the very laws and times 00:15:46.03\00:15:48.99 of God. We're back to the study guide, 00:15:49.02\00:15:51.72 hopefully we're getting everything filled in. 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.48 It says: "Which is the rock upon which the church" 00:15:54.51\00:15:56.98 "of Jesus Christ is built?" That's a question 00:15:57.01\00:15:59.37 that is often asked, and Scripture is absolutely clear 00:15:59.40\00:16:03.00 on this point: Jesus Christ is the Rock. 00:16:03.03\00:16:12.11 Consider the following text that unmistakably established 00:16:12.92\00:16:16.12 this. Some people say: "well wait" 00:16:16.15\00:16:18.75 "a minute, I thought that Jesus built His church upon Peter," 00:16:18.78\00:16:21.75 "isn't that what He said there? 'I'm going to build My church'" 00:16:21.78\00:16:24.60 "'upon Peter'?" We'll come back to that 00:16:24.63\00:16:27.30 in just a minute, let's look at a few texts though. 00:16:27.33\00:16:30.05 1 Corinthians 10:4, it says: [text on screen] 00:16:30.08\00:16:33.01 This is Paul recounting the experience of Moses 00:16:33.04\00:16:35.79 and the people in the wilderness. [text on screen] 00:16:35.82\00:16:40.38 Is that plain enough everyone? It's as plain as can be. 00:16:47.96\00:16:52.21 They all drank of the same spiritual drink that was, 00:16:52.24\00:16:55.35 remember, Moses stood there and he struck the rock 00:16:55.38\00:16:57.86 and what came out of the rock? Water. 00:16:57.89\00:17:00.93 And they all drank of that same spiritual drink and the Rock 00:17:00.96\00:17:04.34 that followed them was Christ, there's not mistaking 00:17:04.37\00:17:08.09 who the Rock was. We can look at another one, 00:17:08.12\00:17:10.85 Ephesians 2:20; again, the apostle Paul: [text on screen] 00:17:10.88\00:17:16.05 You know what a cornerstone is, right? 00:17:26.32\00:17:28.43 The corner stone is, especially in ancient times, 00:17:28.46\00:17:31.30 when we didn't have the quarrying and the hewing 00:17:31.33\00:17:34.18 facilities that we have today, you would find a nice 00:17:34.21\00:17:36.98 big solid rock and you would set that stone and you would 00:17:37.01\00:17:42.94 level that stone and you would put it right into place 00:17:42.97\00:17:45.76 and then everything else would build off of the cornerstone. 00:17:45.79\00:17:50.17 The cornerstone was where the plum line was, 00:17:50.20\00:17:53.14 the corner stone set the pace for the rest of the building. 00:17:53.17\00:17:56.02 If the cornerstone was off, the building would be off, 00:17:56.05\00:17:58.92 that's why you had your best stone, was your cornerstone. 00:17:58.95\00:18:01.57 Your most solid stone was your corner stone, and this 00:18:01.60\00:18:04.49 analogy taken from Psalm 118 is that Jesus is the cornerstone. 00:18:04.52\00:18:10.76 Who's the corner stone? Who's that first, critical piece 00:18:13.21\00:18:16.20 in the building of God's people? Jesus Christ. 00:18:16.23\00:18:20.08 Let's look at another one. Matthew 21:44, Jesus speaking. 00:18:20.11\00:18:25.33 Let's actually go to that verse. Go with me to Matthew 21, 00:18:26.54\00:18:30.29 let's look at that in our Bibles because I want you to see 00:18:30.32\00:18:32.97 the whole context, Matthew 21. 00:18:33.00\00:18:36.00 Matthew 21:42. 00:18:36.13\00:18:42.63 Jesus said to them, Matthew 21:42, 00:18:45.18\00:18:48.54 I still hear some pages, I'll wait for you, don't worry. 00:18:48.57\00:18:51.70 "Have you never read in the Scriptures, the stone" 00:18:51.73\00:18:55.69 "which the builders rejected has become the chief" 00:18:55.72\00:19:00.81 "cornerstone, this was the Lord's doing and it is" 00:19:00.84\00:19:03.55 "marvelous in our eyes. " This is Jesus speaking 00:19:03.58\00:19:06.30 to the religious leaders of His day, He says: 00:19:06.33\00:19:08.45 "Hey, haven't you read in Psalm 118", of course, 00:19:08.48\00:19:11.19 it wasn't called Psalm 118 at the time, but He's quoting 00:19:11.22\00:19:14.25 from what we would call Psalm 118, He says: 00:19:14.28\00:19:17.01 "Hey, haven't you read that the very stone that the builders" 00:19:17.04\00:19:19.91 "said, Nah, we don't need that stone, that that stone" 00:19:19.94\00:19:22.89 "became the chief stone, the cornerstone," 00:19:22.92\00:19:25.50 "the first stone. " Verse 43: 00:19:25.53\00:19:27.86 "Therefore I say to you", Jesus speaking to the religious 00:19:27.89\00:19:30.78 leaders of His day, "the kingdom of God will be taken away" 00:19:30.81\00:19:33.67 "from you, and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. " 00:19:33.70\00:19:36.63 Verse 44: [text on screen] 00:19:36.66\00:19:39.38 Who is that stone? Who's the chief cornerstone? 00:19:44.93\00:19:47.58 Jesus. Jesus is basically saying 00:19:47.61\00:19:49.83 to the religious leaders of His day: "You'd better come" 00:19:49.86\00:19:52.43 "to grips with who I am. Whoever falls on this stone," 00:19:52.46\00:19:55.36 "whoever confessed that he's a sinner in need of a Saviour," 00:19:55.39\00:19:58.49 "whoever falls on this stone will be broken," 00:19:58.52\00:20:01.09 "but if you don't fall on this stone, this stone will" 00:20:01.12\00:20:04.00 "grind you to powder. " Quick questions: 00:20:04.03\00:20:06.43 where does that imagery, does that sound familiar to us: 00:20:06.46\00:20:08.61 a stone grinding something to powder? 00:20:08.64\00:20:10.08 Does that sound familiar? What does that sound like? 00:20:10.11\00:20:13.33 It sounds like Daniel 2, doesn't it? 00:20:13.36\00:20:15.38 That's exactly the image that Jesus is drawing up here, 00:20:15.41\00:20:17.94 so the stone that struck the image was the kingdom of God 00:20:17.97\00:20:21.19 that grew and became a great mountain. 00:20:21.22\00:20:25.34 The kingdom of God becomes a great mountain 00:20:26.02\00:20:29.08 because Jesus is the chief cornerstone. 00:20:29.11\00:20:33.93 So our message is entitled: "The Rock that simply" 00:20:34.63\00:20:37.02 "will not roll". Now look at Matthew 7, 00:20:37.05\00:20:39.16 since you're there in Matthew, let's make it easy on you, 00:20:39.19\00:20:42.00 Matthew 7:24, Jesus speaking, 00:20:42.03\00:20:49.23 Matthew 7:24, He comes to the end of what's called 00:20:49.26\00:20:51.99 the Sermon on the Mount: "Therefore, whoever hears" 00:20:52.02\00:20:55.33 "these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him" 00:20:55.36\00:20:58.40 "to a wise man, who built his house on rock, and the rain" 00:20:58.43\00:21:03.48 "descended and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat" 00:21:03.51\00:21:06.57 "on that house, and it did not fall for it was founded" 00:21:06.60\00:21:09.53 "upon the rock. For everyone who hears" 00:21:09.56\00:21:12.17 "these sayings of mine and does not do them" 00:21:12.20\00:21:15.16 "is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand," 00:21:15.19\00:21:17.99 "and the rains descended, and the floods came, and the wind" 00:21:18.02\00:21:20.93 "blew, and beat on that house and it fell, and great" 00:21:20.96\00:21:23.52 "was its fall. " Now look at verse 28: 00:21:23.55\00:21:26.48 "And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings" 00:21:26.51\00:21:29.09 "that the people were astonished at His teaching. " 00:21:29.12\00:21:31.41 Why? Why were they surprised? 00:21:31.44\00:21:33.72 Verse 29: "For He taught them as one having authority" 00:21:33.75\00:21:36.32 "and not as the scribes. " Jesus basically says: 00:21:36.35\00:21:39.16 "If you follow My words, if you obey what I'm" 00:21:39.19\00:21:41.76 "telling you here in the Sermon on the Mount," 00:21:41.79\00:21:44.48 "and in My other teachings, that's the equivalent" 00:21:44.51\00:21:47.37 "of building your house on a rock, but if you want to have" 00:21:47.40\00:21:50.07 "your own ideas, your own opinions, your own traditions," 00:21:50.10\00:21:52.94 "that's like building your house on the sand. " 00:21:52.97\00:21:56.62 So we ask the questions: Who was the rock that Jesus 00:21:56.65\00:22:00.95 built His church upon? It would be Jesus. 00:22:00.98\00:22:03.96 Now go to Matthew 16, somebody says Peter, 00:22:03.99\00:22:07.04 and I think they're just being a little facetious. 00:22:07.07\00:22:09.91 Go to Matthew 16. 00:22:09.94\00:22:13.77 I think that was Kevin, and he's clever, 00:22:14.38\00:22:17.10 so... ahhh... Matthew 16:13. 00:22:17.13\00:22:20.20 This is the verse, now you've got to hang in there 00:22:20.23\00:22:22.89 for this verse, and really understand it. 00:22:22.92\00:22:25.60 Do you want to understand this verse? 00:22:25.63\00:22:28.33 - [Audience] Yeah. - Yeah, me too. 00:22:28.36\00:22:30.78 So let's look at it, Matthew 16:13, Jesus takes 00:22:30.81\00:22:33.65 a Barna Report, He takes a public opinion survey. 00:22:33.68\00:22:36.47 "Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi," 00:22:36.50\00:22:39.15 "and He asked His disciples saying, Who do men say" 00:22:39.18\00:22:41.80 "that I, the Son of Man, am?" "I want to know what's" 00:22:41.83\00:22:44.48 "the word of the streets, what are people saying about Me?" 00:22:44.51\00:22:47.26 "Out there in the streets, who are people saying that I am?" 00:22:47.29\00:22:50.08 Then they begin to say, verse 14: "Some say" 00:22:50.11\00:22:52.71 "You're John the Baptist, some say Elijah," 00:22:52.74\00:22:55.42 "others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. " 00:22:55.45\00:22:57.96 Jesus says: "Okay, I'm satisfied that you give Me" 00:22:57.99\00:23:00.72 "an accurate representation of what others are saying", 00:23:00.75\00:23:03.54 there He says in verse 15: "Who do you say that I am?" 00:23:03.57\00:23:06.25 Then Peter speaks up on behalf of the rest of the apostles, 00:23:06.28\00:23:08.98 "Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ", 00:23:09.01\00:23:11.54 or the Messiah, same word. "Kristos" in the Greek 00:23:11.57\00:23:14.15 is "the anointed" and "Meshiach" in the Hebrew is "the anointed". 00:23:14.18\00:23:17.07 "You're the anointed, You're the Messiah," 00:23:17.10\00:23:19.41 "the Son of the living God. Jesus answered and said" 00:23:19.44\00:23:22.04 "to him, Blessed are you Simon Barjona," 00:23:22.07\00:23:24.68 "for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you," 00:23:24.71\00:23:27.40 "but My Father, who is in heaven. " 00:23:27.43\00:23:30.22 Here it is, verse 18, drum roll please: 00:23:30.25\00:23:32.71 "And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this Rock" 00:23:32.74\00:23:35.35 "I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not" 00:23:35.38\00:23:38.02 "prevail against it. " There it is, "Jesus is going" 00:23:38.05\00:23:40.70 "to build His church on Peter. " That's what people say, 00:23:40.73\00:23:43.43 they say: "Oh, that verse plainly teaches that Jesus" 00:23:43.46\00:23:46.09 "is going to build His church on Peter. " 00:23:46.12\00:23:48.79 There's just 3 problems with that, problem 1 is: 00:23:48.82\00:23:51.40 it does not agree with the rest of Scripture. 00:23:51.43\00:23:53.69 We've already seen who is the Rock. 00:23:53.72\00:23:57.08 Who's the rock? [Audience] Jesus. 00:23:57.11\00:23:59.59 Okay, that's the first problem. The second problem is 00:23:59.62\00:24:02.45 that notice He says "the gates of hell will not" 00:24:02.48\00:24:05.52 "prevail against it", but notice just in a few short verses, 00:24:05.55\00:24:07.95 the gates of hell do prevail against Peter. 00:24:07.98\00:24:10.67 Verse 21, that same chapter, verse 21: "From that time" 00:24:10.70\00:24:13.63 "Jesus began to show His disciples that He must" 00:24:13.66\00:24:16.41 "go to Jerusalem, that He must suffer many things from" 00:24:16.44\00:24:19.24 "the elders, and chief priests and scribes and be killed," 00:24:19.27\00:24:21.94 "and be raised the 3rd day. And Peter took Him aside" 00:24:21.97\00:24:24.63 "and began to rebuke Him", can you imagine Peter 00:24:24.66\00:24:27.33 rebuking the Lord of glory. He says: "Far be it from You," 00:24:27.36\00:24:30.08 "this is not going to happen to You. " 00:24:30.11\00:24:33.10 Verse 23: "And He turned and said to Peter, get behind Me," 00:24:33.13\00:24:39.95 "Satan". Question: "get behind me Satan," 00:24:39.98\00:24:42.81 "for you do not savor the things that be of God, but the things" 00:24:42.84\00:24:45.77 "that be of men. " Did the gates of hell 00:24:45.80\00:24:48.33 prevail against Peter? Yeah, about 20 seconds later. 00:24:48.36\00:24:52.26 He says: "You're Peter, and on this rock I'm going" 00:24:52.29\00:24:55.19 "to build my church and the gates of hell won't prevail" 00:24:55.22\00:24:58.09 "against it", and moments later He says: "I'm going to go" 00:24:58.12\00:25:01.02 "to Jerusalem, I'm going to be killed and I'll raise again" 00:25:01.05\00:25:03.97 "the third day", and Peter says: "No, this isn't going to happen" 00:25:04.00\00:25:06.87 and He says "Get behind me, Satan", that's proof positive 2 00:25:06.90\00:25:09.67 the gates of hell did prevail against Peter, 00:25:09.70\00:25:12.54 and reason 3, it's just a very simple matter of looking 00:25:12.57\00:25:15.32 at the actual language. Look at verse 18: 00:25:15.35\00:25:18.39 "I say that you are Peter. " The Greek word for Peter 00:25:18.42\00:25:22.11 is "petros", this doesn't come across in the English, 00:25:22.14\00:25:24.81 so you need to follow this: "You are 'Petros'", 00:25:24.84\00:25:27.40 the word "petros", you can look it up in any 00:25:27.43\00:25:30.29 Strong's Concordance of the Greek language, 00:25:30.32\00:25:32.75 "petros" is: [text on screen] 00:25:32.78\00:25:35.46 "... but upon this rock", and the word for rock is "Petra", 00:25:40.27\00:25:45.02 "large, monolithic, unmovable, mass of rock" 00:25:45.05\00:25:49.38 "I will build my church. " If you look at it 00:25:49.41\00:25:52.96 in the Greek it's so plain, first of all, you don't 00:25:52.99\00:25:55.73 have to know Greek, not at all, the Scripture makes 00:25:55.76\00:25:58.52 it very clear that Jesus is the chief cornerstone, 00:25:58.55\00:26:01.47 but in the language that's being employed here 00:26:01.50\00:26:03.97 it's very simple, He says: "You're Peter, you're a little" 00:26:04.00\00:26:06.60 "rolling stone, you go this way and that way," 00:26:06.63\00:26:09.37 "you say, Let me walk out onto the water and come after you" 00:26:09.40\00:26:12.05 "and then you sink 2 seconds later, you're a little" 00:26:12.08\00:26:14.75 "rolling stone and I'm glad you're following me," 00:26:14.78\00:26:17.32 "but I need a more stable, sure foundation" 00:26:17.35\00:26:19.97 "for my church, and upon this 'Petra', large, unmovable," 00:26:20.00\00:26:22.78 "monolithic, mass of rock I'm going to build my church. " 00:26:22.81\00:26:25.38 The church is built on Jesus, not on a sinful man. 00:26:25.41\00:26:30.40 So far so good? Okay, let's continue, 00:26:30.43\00:26:32.84 it gets even better. So notice, you can fill all 00:26:32.87\00:26:36.15 that in, what about Matthew 16? You should be able to fill 00:26:36.18\00:26:38.96 every bit in, so I'm on page 3. 00:26:38.99\00:26:42.76 No problem, you can do that, can't you? 00:26:43.43\00:26:46.14 I want to go back to a slide I just missed, and I want 00:26:46.17\00:26:49.09 to be crystal clear that I am not making fun of anyone, 00:26:49.12\00:26:54.18 I'm over that, we left those days back in junior high school, 00:26:54.21\00:26:59.21 the "nanny nanny, boo boo", "my dad can beat up" 00:26:59.24\00:27:01.77 "your dad", "your nose is too big", those days are over, okay? 00:27:01.80\00:27:04.64 What we're interested in is truth. 00:27:04.67\00:27:08.98 We've already said: God is not against people, 00:27:09.01\00:27:13.45 but God is against systems that obscure the person 00:27:13.48\00:27:19.79 of Jesus Christ. Now we're talking about 00:27:19.82\00:27:22.20 the changing of God's law. What we're actually going 00:27:22.23\00:27:24.87 to discover is that right in the heart of God's law, 00:27:24.90\00:27:28.25 the 10 commandment law, this power has actually 00:27:28.28\00:27:31.93 changed God's law. You say: "What?!" 00:27:31.96\00:27:34.72 "Impossible!" Of course, they can't actually 00:27:34.75\00:27:37.53 change it, but they've tried to change it. 00:27:37.56\00:27:40.35 One of the things that they've done is the second commandment 00:27:40.38\00:27:43.18 in the Catechism, notice, not the Bible, but the Catechism, 00:27:43.21\00:27:47.14 the 2nd commandment has been removed. 00:27:47.17\00:27:50.21 The 2nd commandment says: "Thou shalt not make unto thee" 00:27:50.24\00:27:53.00 "any graven image, or any likeness of anything" 00:27:53.03\00:27:55.73 "that is in the heaven above, the earth beneath," 00:27:55.76\00:27:58.50 "or the waters under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down" 00:27:58.53\00:28:01.17 "thyself to them, nor serve them, for I, the Lord thy God," 00:28:01.20\00:28:04.07 "am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers" 00:28:04.10\00:28:06.81 "upon the children unto the 3rd and 4th generation of them" 00:28:06.84\00:28:09.36 "that hate me, but showing mercy unto thousands of them" 00:28:09.39\00:28:12.16 "that love Me and keep My commandments. " 00:28:12.19\00:28:14.69 So far so good? That commandment is gone 00:28:14.72\00:28:17.24 in the Catechism, you don't believe me? 00:28:17.27\00:28:19.79 You go find any Catechism, it's gone in the Roman 00:28:19.82\00:28:22.60 church-state's Catechism. It is not there. 00:28:22.63\00:28:25.36 Well, that doesn't sound so good: 9 commandments. 00:28:25.39\00:28:28.11 We have to have the 10 commandments, so what happened 00:28:28.14\00:28:30.74 is the 10th commandment was divided into 2. 00:28:30.77\00:28:33.25 So there actually has been an effrontery, a frontal attack 00:28:33.28\00:28:36.00 on the very law of God, and this actually also begins to involve 00:28:36.03\00:28:38.88 the Sabbath commandment, which is the 4th commandment: 00:28:38.91\00:28:42.13 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, 6 days" 00:28:42.16\00:28:44.89 "shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the 7th day" 00:28:44.92\00:28:47.71 "is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. " 00:28:47.74\00:28:50.28 Even that has been attacked and changed, we'll talk 00:28:50.31\00:28:53.16 more about that tomorrow. The point here is that 00:28:53.19\00:28:55.94 the 10 commandment law has been attacked directly by this power, 00:28:55.97\00:28:58.85 and that's one of the identifiers, Daniel said, 00:28:58.88\00:29:01.38 he would actually think to change the very laws of God 00:29:01.41\00:29:04.38 and supplant the laws of God with his traditions. 00:29:04.41\00:29:07.66 Now, you're there in Matthew 16, so go back 1 chapter 00:29:07.69\00:29:11.47 to Matthew 15, and let's just look at a very simple 00:29:11.50\00:29:15.42 outplaying of how this works when tradition comes into 00:29:15.45\00:29:18.40 contradistinction to God's law. Matthew 15:1: 00:29:18.43\00:29:23.61 "Then the scribes and the Pharisees who were from" 00:29:23.64\00:29:26.45 "Jerusalem saying, Why do your disciples transgress" 00:29:26.48\00:29:29.34 "the traditions of the elders, for they do not wash their" 00:29:29.37\00:29:33.96 "hands when they eat bread. " I recommend that you wash 00:29:33.99\00:29:36.69 your hands before you eat, but that was a ritual 00:29:36.72\00:29:39.40 cleansing that they were talking about, not so much 00:29:39.43\00:29:42.16 for cleanliness, but a ritual cleansing. 00:29:42.19\00:29:44.94 Verse 3: "He answered and said to them, Why do you" 00:29:44.97\00:29:47.76 "transgress the command of God because of your tradition?" 00:29:47.79\00:29:50.63 "For God commanded, saying, Honor your father" 00:29:50.66\00:29:53.94 "and your mother, and he that curses father and mother," 00:29:53.97\00:29:56.27 "let him be put to death. " Which of the 10 commandments 00:29:56.30\00:29:58.32 is that? "Honor thy father and" 00:29:58.35\00:30:01.04 "thy mother", that's number 5. 00:30:01.07\00:30:03.55 Verse 5 says: "But you say, whoever says to his father" 00:30:03.58\00:30:06.97 "or mother, whatever profit you might have received" 00:30:07.00\00:30:09.67 "from me, it is a gift to God, then He need not honor" 00:30:09.70\00:30:12.83 "his father or mother, thus you have made" 00:30:12.86\00:30:15.55 "the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. " 00:30:15.58\00:30:20.57 This is very simple, there was a tradition that basically said; 00:30:20.60\00:30:25.08 first of all, we know that we should all take care 00:30:25.11\00:30:27.67 of our parents because they took care of us when we were 00:30:27.70\00:30:30.74 little babies, just very simple, that's just good common sense. 00:30:30.77\00:30:33.66 So too in the time of Jesus, so too in the time of the disciples 00:30:33.69\00:30:38.69 so too even for that, "honor thy father and thy mother". 00:30:38.72\00:30:41.51 When they get older and they need your help, and they need 00:30:41.54\00:30:44.39 assistance, you take care of them, not just in terms 00:30:44.42\00:30:47.17 of physically, but you give them financial resources if 00:30:47.20\00:30:50.10 they need, it's just basic common sense, it's also 00:30:50.13\00:30:52.84 a Biblical principle, but what was happening in the days 00:30:52.87\00:30:55.83 of Jesus is that they were saying is the money that you 00:30:55.86\00:30:58.60 normally would give to your parents who need your 00:30:58.63\00:31:01.42 assistance because they're retired and can't work anymore, 00:31:01.45\00:31:04.33 that money, you can actually take that money and bring 00:31:04.36\00:31:07.25 it to the temple and God understands. 00:31:07.28\00:31:10.11 So there was a tradition that money that could have gone 00:31:10.14\00:31:12.92 to your parents, or should have gone to your parents, 00:31:12.95\00:31:15.72 if it was given to the temple God understood. 00:31:15.75\00:31:18.46 Jesus says "Hey, wait a minute, you're giving My disciples" 00:31:18.49\00:31:21.17 "a hard time because they break your silly traditions?" 00:31:21.20\00:31:23.87 "You violate the very command of God by your sill tradition" 00:31:23.90\00:31:26.87 "that says you can neglect your parents just to make" 00:31:26.90\00:31:29.62 "a contribution to the temple", and guess who was the recipients 00:31:29.65\00:31:32.52 of the moneys that went to the temple: the very people 00:31:32.55\00:31:35.31 that upheld that tradition. Are we all together so far? 00:31:35.34\00:31:38.08 Let's pick it up in verse 7: "You hypocrites!" 00:31:38.11\00:31:40.70 He says "You're hypocrites", "Well did Isaiah prophesy" 00:31:40.73\00:31:43.54 "about you saying", now look at verse 8 and 9, phenomenal, 00:31:43.57\00:31:46.41 "these people draw near to Me with their mouth and honor" 00:31:46.44\00:31:49.13 "Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me", 00:31:49.16\00:31:53.05 and look at verse 9, it's so phenomenally easy to understand: 00:31:53.08\00:31:58.19 "in vain to they worship Me, teaching as doctrines" 00:31:58.22\00:32:02.96 "the commandments of men. " Could the be any plainer? 00:32:02.99\00:32:08.44 When the traditions of man come into conflict with God's law 00:32:08.47\00:32:12.28 and God's word, which one has to be subordinate to the other? 00:32:12.31\00:32:16.70 Tradition is subordinate to the laws of God. 00:32:16.73\00:32:20.50 Very interesting. So what we find is when 00:32:20.53\00:32:23.07 we go to the teachings, the actual teachings of the Roman 00:32:23.10\00:32:26.04 Church-state, tradition has superseded the very laws 00:32:26.07\00:32:31.14 of God, just as prophecy said, that they would think to change 00:32:31.17\00:32:34.53 the very times and laws of God. 00:32:34.56\00:32:37.91 You're there still on your study guide, it says: 00:32:40.32\00:32:43.16 Really this is what we would expect when we consider 00:32:43.19\00:32:46.01 Jesus' words - I'm at the top of page 3- in passages like 00:32:46.04\00:32:48.97 Matthew 5:17,18, Jesus said: [text on screen] 00:32:49.00\00:32:53.43 Jesus says "Hey listen, even the earth, this solid earth," 00:33:13.58\00:33:17.97 "the terra firma is less stable than God's law. " 00:33:18.00\00:33:22.40 So far so good? Okay, now buckle your safety 00:33:22.43\00:33:25.48 belt because this gets incredible. 00:33:25.51\00:33:28.18 The law of God, the big Biblical picture. 00:33:28.21\00:33:31.17 The law of God is solid, unmovable, and unchangeable, 00:33:31.20\00:33:34.24 it is a transcript of God's own character, that's the word 00:33:34.27\00:33:38.69 you'd write in there, it is a transcript of the character 00:33:38.72\00:33:41.47 of God; God is holy, the law is holy, 00:33:41.50\00:33:44.81 God is good, the law is good, God is righteous, the law 00:33:44.84\00:33:47.88 is righteous, the law is a transcript of the very character 00:33:47.91\00:33:50.83 of God. Abraham kept God's law, 00:33:50.86\00:33:55.39 so did Moses and the many Old Testament prophets, 00:33:55.42\00:33:57.87 and Jesus, and the disciples. Now, some people say 00:33:57.90\00:34:02.37 "well wait a minute, I thought the law began with Moses. " 00:34:02.40\00:34:04.90 "I thought the law began in the days of Moses. " 00:34:04.93\00:34:07.39 No, no, no. Did Cain sin, yes or no? 00:34:07.42\00:34:11.85 Yeah, Cain sinned when He murdered Abel because there 00:34:11.88\00:34:16.61 was a command that said "Thou shalt not kill. " 00:34:16.64\00:34:20.73 So Genesis 26:5: [text on screen] 00:34:20.76\00:34:24.47 Who came first: Abraham or Moses? 00:34:25.65\00:34:27.98 Abraham because it was Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, then 00:34:28.01\00:34:30.71 the children of Israel went to Egypt for 400 years, 00:34:30.74\00:34:33.59 and then Moses came out of that, so Abraham is before Moses 00:34:33.62\00:34:36.62 by several hundred years. [text on screen] 00:34:36.65\00:34:40.47 Did God have commandments in the days of Abraham? 00:34:43.78\00:34:46.64 Sure He did. [continues reading text] 00:34:46.67\00:34:49.52 What did happen in the days of Moses is that the law 00:34:49.55\00:34:52.28 of God was codified. You say "what does codified mean?" 00:34:52.31\00:34:58.03 It's a fancy-dancy word for "written down". 00:34:58.06\00:35:01.78 It was written in the days of Moses, you say "Oh really?" 00:35:01.81\00:35:06.06 "It was written in the days of Moses?" 00:35:06.09\00:35:08.94 Look, this gets incredible. The law of God came directly 00:35:08.97\00:35:14.03 from God to Moses. As if that wasn't enough, 00:35:14.06\00:35:19.12 the law of God was written, God's 10 commandment law 00:35:19.15\00:35:22.74 was written with His own finger. Look at the book of Exodus, 00:35:22.77\00:35:27.56 second book of the Bible, Exodus 31. 00:35:27.59\00:35:31.13 Just quickly look at it, Exodus 31, don't take my word 00:35:32.09\00:35:34.97 for it, let's see what the Bible says, Exodus 31:18. 00:35:35.00\00:35:40.68 Second book of the Old Testament, you can find it. 00:35:40.71\00:35:45.35 Exodus 31:18. It says: "And when He had made" 00:35:45.44\00:35:51.68 "an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai," 00:35:51.71\00:35:54.34 "He", being God, "gave Moses 2 tablets of the testimony," 00:35:54.37\00:35:59.42 "tablets of stone written with the finger of God. " 00:35:59.45\00:36:05.30 So they were written by who? God wrote them. 00:36:05.33\00:36:08.64 You can fill in all the blanks. The law of God was written 00:36:08.67\00:36:11.83 by the finger of God on tablets of stone. 00:36:11.86\00:36:15.66 You might be looking at that picture and thinking 00:36:15.69\00:36:18.29 "Hmmm, the 10 commandments look a little blue there, I've never" 00:36:18.32\00:36:21.26 "seen that before. " Who thinks those commandments 00:36:21.29\00:36:24.08 look a little blue? 00:36:24.11\00:36:26.46 Yeah, they're purposefully blue, I made them blue, 00:36:26.49\00:36:29.25 and I'll explain why in just a moment. 00:36:29.28\00:36:31.81 What happened is that Moses comes down the mountain 00:36:31.84\00:36:34.66 with these 2 tablets of stone that have the 10 commandments 00:36:34.69\00:36:37.34 on them, and God had told him specifically what to do with 00:36:37.37\00:36:40.08 those commandments. He was to take them 00:36:40.11\00:36:42.65 and put them into the Ark of the Covenant. 00:36:42.68\00:36:45.50 You remember "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark". 00:36:45.53\00:36:50.67 How many people have heard of the Ark of the Covenant before? 00:36:50.70\00:36:53.77 We think "Oh, it's so holy"; let me tell you what the Ark 00:36:53.80\00:36:56.30 is all about. The Ark is a glorified box. 00:36:56.33\00:37:01.96 That's what the Ark is. Do you know what made 00:37:01.99\00:37:04.64 the Ark so special? It wasn't the Ark itself, 00:37:04.67\00:37:07.02 it's what's inside of the Ark, if you go to a shoe store 00:37:07.05\00:37:10.62 and you say "Oh, I really like those shoes, I've got to have" 00:37:10.65\00:37:13.39 "that pair of shoes right there, that's the shoes I want. " 00:37:13.42\00:37:16.22 They say "Well, we'll go and see if we have your size. " 00:37:16.25\00:37:19.02 So they run in the back and sure enough, they come out 00:37:19.05\00:37:21.95 and they say "Yep, we don't have the shoes in your size," 00:37:21.98\00:37:24.63 "but we've got the box. " [Audience laughs] 00:37:24.66\00:37:27.24 "We've got the box", are you going to buy the box? 00:37:27.27\00:37:30.01 No, because you're interested in what's inside of the box. 00:37:30.04\00:37:32.61 If they came out and they said "Oh yeah, we do have" 00:37:32.64\00:37:35.27 "those shoes right in your size, but we don't have the box", 00:37:35.30\00:37:38.01 would you take the shoes? Sure, because you want 00:37:38.04\00:37:40.78 what's in the box, not the box itself. What really makes 00:37:40.81\00:37:44.34 the Ark special, we think "Oh, the Ark with the cherubim" 00:37:44.37\00:37:46.92 "and the gold plating, and the mercy seat", what made the Ark 00:37:46.95\00:37:50.03 so special is that what was inside of it was the very 00:37:50.06\00:37:54.47 tablets of stone written by God's own finger. 00:37:54.50\00:38:00.88 That's what made that thing so special, phenomenal. 00:38:00.91\00:38:04.05 In fact, I gave you the verse right there, so it says: 00:38:04.08\00:38:06.57 The law as placed in the Ark. Why did God write His law 00:38:06.60\00:38:12.39 on tables of stone? To show that it was temporary, 00:38:12.42\00:38:15.02 transient, and passing away, right? 00:38:15.05\00:38:17.58 My dad used to say to me, in fact, I remember one time 00:38:17.61\00:38:20.35 I was on vacation with him down in Corpus Christi, Texas, 00:38:20.38\00:38:23.09 and there was a hurricane, this is years and years ago, 00:38:23.12\00:38:25.84 there's a hurricane off in the distance, you could actually 00:38:25.87\00:38:28.45 see the waves frothing up and doing their thing. 00:38:28.48\00:38:31.38 I lived in South Dakota, we don't have many oceans 00:38:31.41\00:38:34.01 in South Dakota, and I was looking at that ocean, 00:38:34.04\00:38:36.88 and it was hot, and I wanted to get out there and I said 00:38:36.91\00:38:39.51 "Dad, can I go swimming?" He said "No, you're not" 00:38:39.54\00:38:42.21 "going swimming, boy. " We walked a little further 00:38:42.24\00:38:45.04 down the beach and I said "Papa, I've got to go swimming," 00:38:45.07\00:38:47.75 "can I please go swimming?" He said "Boy, you're not going" 00:38:47.78\00:38:50.47 "swimming", remember I told you my dad was a military dad, 00:38:50.50\00:38:53.30 36 years in the military; I asked him one more time, 00:38:53.33\00:38:55.87 I said "Dad, please can I go swimming?", and I'll never 00:38:55.90\00:38:58.48 forget, he turned around with that index finger that's about 00:38:58.51\00:39:01.39 that long and he pointed right at me, he said: 00:39:01.42\00:39:04.04 "Boy, you ain't going swimming and that's written in stone!" 00:39:04.07\00:39:07.01 [Audience laughs] 00:39:07.04\00:39:09.37 What did that means? Did that mean "ask one more" 00:39:09.40\00:39:12.17 "time and he'll let me go?" [Audience] No. 00:39:12.20\00:39:14.73 It meant "case closed, if you want to eat tonight" 00:39:14.76\00:39:17.42 "stop asking. " So when God writes His law 00:39:17.45\00:39:20.16 on tables of stone what He's saying is it doesn't change. 00:39:20.19\00:39:22.94 This is phenomenal, buckle your safety belts: Blue Commandments? 00:39:22.97\00:39:25.57 That's the subheading, "Blue Commandments?" 00:39:25.60\00:39:28.47 You've got to be kidding me. As amazing as it sounds, 00:39:28.50\00:39:31.36 the 10 commandments were blue. 00:39:31.39\00:39:34.06 How do we know that? They were carved out of the very 00:39:34.09\00:39:37.87 throne of God, which is made of blue sapphire. 00:39:37.90\00:39:41.72 Open your Bible to Exodus 24. I'm going to show you 00:39:41.75\00:39:45.77 something here that is going to absolutely blow your mind. 00:39:45.80\00:39:49.13 Exodus 24:9. 00:39:49.16\00:39:55.97 This is Mount Sinai, "Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab," 00:39:58.12\00:40:01.90 "and Abihu, and 70 of the elders of Israel, and they saw" 00:40:01.93\00:40:04.71 "the God of Israel, and there was under His feet a paved work" 00:40:04.74\00:40:09.36 "of sapphire stone. " What color is sapphire? 00:40:09.39\00:40:12.61 [Audience] Blue. "... a sapphire stone, and it" 00:40:12.64\00:40:15.28 "was like the very heavens in its clarity, but on the nobles" 00:40:15.31\00:40:18.05 "of the children of Israel he did not lay His hands" 00:40:18.08\00:40:20.60 "so they saw God and they ate and they drank. " 00:40:20.63\00:40:23.29 They go up to confirm the covenant, that was common. 00:40:23.32\00:40:26.84 What do we do when we have a wedding? 00:40:26.87\00:40:29.59 After a wedding what do you go to? A meal. 00:40:29.62\00:40:32.32 That's a tradition, that's ancient, because after 00:40:32.35\00:40:35.08 a covenant is sealed you have a meal, here the covenant 00:40:35.11\00:40:37.70 was sealed and they had a meal. Jesus, when He seals the new 00:40:37.73\00:40:40.55 covenant in the upper room in the New Testament has 00:40:40.58\00:40:43.40 the last supper, so here they're having a meal, and they're 00:40:43.43\00:40:46.20 sealing the covenant. This happens even today in 00:40:46.23\00:40:48.76 business partnerships, a great big business deal goes through, 00:40:48.79\00:40:51.60 a big merger of 2 companies, they have a big party, 00:40:51.63\00:40:54.41 they have a dinner, why? Because they're sealing 00:40:54.44\00:40:57.30 the covenant. Now look at verse 12: 00:40:57.33\00:40:59.92 "Then the Lord said to Moses, Come up to Me on the mountain" 00:40:59.95\00:41:02.91 "and I will be there, and I will give you tablets of stone" 00:41:02.94\00:41:05.56 "and the law and commandments, which I have written" 00:41:05.59\00:41:08.27 "that you may teach them. " Now this is interesting. 00:41:08.30\00:41:11.00 Keep your finger right there, and look at your study guide. 00:41:11.03\00:41:14.26 Underneath the feet of God there was a pavement like blue 00:41:14.29\00:41:17.29 sapphire stone. I've given you 2 texts there, 00:41:17.32\00:41:20.27 Ezekiel 1 and Ezekiel 10, you can go look at those verses, 00:41:20.30\00:41:23.40 and it will show you that God's throne is made of sapphire; 00:41:23.43\00:41:28.54 as plain as can be, in Ezekiel 10:1 Ezekiel says 00:41:28.57\00:41:31.65 "I saw God's sapphire throne. " So what's His throne made of? 00:41:31.68\00:41:36.34 - [Audience] Sapphire. - Now look at this: 00:41:36.37\00:41:38.93 Note especially Exodus 24:12, "Then the Lord said to Moses," 00:41:38.96\00:41:42.47 "Come up to Me on the mountain and be there, and I will" 00:41:42.50\00:41:44.94 "give you tablets of stone and the law, and the commandments," 00:41:44.97\00:41:48.30 "which I have written, that you may teach them. " 00:41:48.33\00:41:51.11 The literal rendering in the Hebrew reads: "I will give you" 00:41:51.14\00:41:55.11 "tablets of THE stone", that's what you'd write in there. 00:41:55.14\00:42:00.87 Now, that's the definite article "I'm going to give you" 00:42:00.90\00:42:03.60 "tablets of THE stone. " You say "what stone?" 00:42:03.63\00:42:06.95 The only other stone that's mentioned is mentioned 2 verses 00:42:06.98\00:42:09.65 before, it's "THE sapphire stone" that God is standing on, 00:42:09.68\00:42:13.71 and that His throne is made of. God says "You come up," 00:42:13.74\00:42:17.40 "I'm going to give you 2 tablets of the stone. " 00:42:17.43\00:42:20.73 The only other stone that's mentioned in context 00:42:20.76\00:42:23.08 is that sapphire stone. Now it gets even better, 00:42:23.11\00:42:26.36 look at this: It's a specific stone, the only stone mentioned 00:42:26.39\00:42:29.89 in this passage is the one found in verse 10, a sapphire stone, 00:42:29.92\00:42:33.01 so the 10 commandments were carved out of that blue sapphire 00:42:33.04\00:42:35.45 stone that makes up God's standing platform and throne. 00:42:35.48\00:42:38.20 Talk about awesome! And look at Exodus 32:16, 00:42:38.23\00:42:41.02 I've written it in here for you, "Now the tablets were" 00:42:41.05\00:42:44.03 "the work of God. " We like to say that God 00:42:44.06\00:42:48.91 wrote it with His own finger, but according to that verse, 00:42:48.94\00:42:51.77 not only did God write it, God made those tablets. 00:42:51.80\00:42:55.41 Do you know what He made them out of? 00:42:55.44\00:42:56.86 A blue sapphire stone. The tablets were the work 00:42:56.89\00:43:00.63 of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved 00:43:00.66\00:43:02.85 on tablets; so both the tablets, and the writing were the work 00:43:02.88\00:43:05.56 of God. We're just getting started, 00:43:05.59\00:43:09.19 look at the next paragraph: The Jews were required 00:43:09.22\00:43:12.32 to wear blue tassels on the borders of their garments. 00:43:12.35\00:43:15.93 How many of you new that? 00:43:15.96\00:43:18.30 Open your Bibles to Numbers 15, I appreciate those responses. 00:43:18.33\00:43:21.77 Numbers 15. You're in Exodus, 00:43:21.80\00:43:24.27 come on, see if you can beat me there, Leviticus, Numbers. 00:43:24.30\00:43:27.86 Chapter what? [Audience] 15. Can you beat me there? 00:43:27.89\00:43:30.27 I'm there! Numbers 15:37. 00:43:30.30\00:43:37.15 I've got 11 minutes and 30 seconds, let's go! 00:43:37.18\00:43:40.88 Numbers 15. You've got to see this, 00:43:40.91\00:43:45.63 this is out of this world. Verse 37, again, "The Lord" 00:43:45.66\00:43:48.17 "spoke to Moses", who spoke to Moses? [Audience] The Lord. 00:43:48.20\00:43:50.91 So this was God's idea, verse 38: "Speak to" 00:43:50.94\00:43:53.87 "the children of Israel and tell them to make tassels" 00:43:53.90\00:43:57.64 "on the corners of their garments throughout" 00:43:57.67\00:44:00.13 "their generations and to put a blues thread in the tassels" 00:44:00.16\00:44:03.35 "of the corners. " What, is this a fashion statement? 00:44:03.38\00:44:06.33 Why is God so interested in the blue? Why blue? 00:44:06.36\00:44:09.09 Look at verse 39, He tells us why blue. 00:44:09.12\00:44:11.69 "And you shall have the tassel that you may look upon it" 00:44:11.72\00:44:14.79 "and remember all the commandments of the Lord" 00:44:14.82\00:44:22.33 "and do them", now notice this, this is phenomenal, "that you" 00:44:22.36\00:44:26.87 "may not following the harlotry. " 00:44:26.90\00:44:31.12 That's what it says, "I don't want you to be a harlot," 00:44:31.15\00:44:33.98 "leave My commandments and go after the world", 00:44:34.01\00:44:36.82 "that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own" 00:44:36.85\00:44:39.01 "heart and your own eyes are inclined, and that you may" 00:44:39.04\00:44:41.75 "remember and do all My commandments, and be holy," 00:44:41.78\00:44:45.45 "for I am your God, I am the Lord, God, who brought you" 00:44:45.48\00:44:48.29 "out of the land of Egypt. " Isn't this fascinating? 00:44:48.32\00:44:50.82 God says: "Moses, tell the children of Israel that if" 00:44:50.85\00:44:53.52 "they're My people, the Jewish people, they're going to put" 00:44:53.55\00:44:56.16 "a fringe on the borders of their garment, and there's" 00:44:56.19\00:44:59.14 "going to be a tassel there, and that tassel has to be blue", 00:44:59.17\00:45:01.80 and then He says, "because I want them to remember" 00:45:01.83\00:45:04.44 "My commandments. " Why blue? 00:45:04.47\00:45:06.76 Why would blue remind them of the commandments? 00:45:06.79\00:45:09.60 Because the commandments were written on blue sapphire stone. 00:45:09.63\00:45:13.40 You think "Wow, that's amazing, I didn't know that. " 00:45:13.43\00:45:16.24 Well, it gets even better, again, we're just getting 00:45:16.27\00:45:18.99 started. Look at this now, it says, 00:45:19.02\00:45:21.39 where am I at? Here I am. 00:45:21.42\00:45:23.52 I'm at the Macedonian Cultural Arts Center, that's where 00:45:23.55\00:45:26.13 I'm at. Here we go. 00:45:26.16\00:45:28.31 This is phenomenal, open your Bible to the book of Revelation. 00:45:28.34\00:45:31.35 Revelation 17. You've already learned a lot 00:45:31.38\00:45:35.48 more about the book of Revelation than you think. 00:45:35.51\00:45:38.24 What's a woman in Bible prophecy? A church. 00:45:38.27\00:45:41.15 What's a beast in Bible prophecy? A kingdom. 00:45:41.18\00:45:44.07 So what you find in Revelation 17 is a woman 00:45:44.10\00:45:47.07 on a beast. Think about it: a woman 00:45:47.10\00:45:49.49 on a beast would be a church that's in control of the state. 00:45:49.52\00:45:55.89 You see, that's very simple, a woman in Bible prophecy's 00:45:55.92\00:45:58.92 a church, a beast in Bible prophecy's a nation, 00:45:58.95\00:46:01.62 so here in Revelation 17 you have an unfaithful woman, 00:46:01.65\00:46:04.24 a harlot woman, on the back of a beast, so you have 00:46:04.27\00:46:07.03 an unfaithful church in charge of the state. 00:46:07.06\00:46:09.74 It's going to get better, watch. Revelation 17:1: "And one of" 00:46:09.77\00:46:12.40 "the 7 angels who had 7 bowls came and talked with me" 00:46:12.43\00:46:15.39 "saying to me 'Hey, come here, I want to show you something'," 00:46:15.42\00:46:18.19 "the judgment of the great harlot", or whore, "who sits" 00:46:18.22\00:46:21.08 "on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have" 00:46:21.11\00:46:23.49 "committed fornication, the inhabitants of the earth" 00:46:23.52\00:46:26.11 "were made drunk with the wine of her fornication. " 00:46:26.14\00:46:28.98 "So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness," 00:46:29.01\00:46:31.79 "and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was" 00:46:31.82\00:46:34.59 "full of the names of blasphemy, having 7 heads and 10 horns. " 00:46:34.62\00:46:37.37 This all sounds familiar. Verse 4: "And the woman" 00:46:37.40\00:46:40.20 "was arrayed in purple, and scarlet and adorned with gold," 00:46:40.23\00:46:44.63 "and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand" 00:46:44.66\00:46:47.37 "a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness" 00:46:47.40\00:46:50.37 "of her fornication, and on her head a name was written:" 00:46:50.40\00:46:53.26 "Mystery, Babylon the Great, The mother of harlots, and of" 00:46:53.29\00:46:56.05 "the abominations of the earth" This is fascinating, 00:46:56.08\00:46:58.77 verse 6 says that this woman was drunk with the blood of 00:46:58.80\00:47:01.40 the saints, so this is a persecuting, unfaithful church. 00:47:01.43\00:47:04.35 Look in your study guide, a chaste woman would be 00:47:04.38\00:47:09.02 a faithful church with 1 husband, a harlot woman 00:47:09.05\00:47:11.72 would be an unfaithful church with numerous lovers. 00:47:11.75\00:47:16.58 I want you to notice the 3 colors that that woman 00:47:18.34\00:47:21.21 was wearing, see if you can remember them, what 3 colors? 00:47:21.24\00:47:23.96 Purple, and scarlet and gold. 00:47:23.99\00:47:29.60 Go to Exodus 28, phenomenal. Here God gives very specific 00:47:29.63\00:47:36.01 instructions to Moses about how the priests were to dress. 00:47:36.04\00:47:42.35 Everything was specific, it had to be just a certain way. 00:47:42.38\00:47:46.72 Sometimes people have a hard time reading the last part of 00:47:46.75\00:47:48.78 Exodus and all of Leviticus, you get trapped up in there. 00:47:48.81\00:47:52.03 Beloved listen, Leviticus is an instruction manual, the last 00:47:52.06\00:47:56.36 half of Exodus is an instruction manual, God was giving them 00:47:56.39\00:47:59.17 very explicit instructions how to conduct themselves 00:47:59.20\00:48:02.23 in the sanctuary, and how to build the sanctuary, 00:48:02.26\00:48:04.85 and how to dress in the sanctuary, and how to perform 00:48:04.88\00:48:07.78 the rites and rituals of the sanctuary. 00:48:07.81\00:48:10.50 So in Exodus 28 God says "This is how Aaron and his sons" 00:48:10.53\00:48:13.14 "are supposed to dress... " Exodus 28:31: 00:48:13.17\00:48:16.83 "You shall make the robe of the ephod", that was what 00:48:16.86\00:48:20.53 the priests wore, "all of blue. there shall be an opening" 00:48:20.56\00:48:25.86 "for his head in the middle of it, it shall have a woven" 00:48:25.89\00:48:28.89 "binding all around its opening, like the opening in a coat" 00:48:28.92\00:48:31.59 "of mail, so it does not tear, and upon its hem you shall" 00:48:31.62\00:48:34.95 "make pomegranates of blue, and purple and scarlet" 00:48:34.98\00:48:40.49 "all around its hem, and bells of gold between them all. " 00:48:40.52\00:48:44.76 Wow, isn't this interesting? Look at the colors 00:48:44.79\00:48:46.80 that the high priest was supposed to wear: purple, 00:48:46.83\00:48:49.69 scarlet, blue and gold. What were the 3 colors 00:48:49.72\00:48:53.91 that the woman was wearing? Scarlet, purple and gold. 00:48:53.94\00:48:58.95 So she's wearing the colors of the high priests, but what 00:48:58.98\00:49:01.74 color is absent? [Audience] Blue. 00:49:01.77\00:49:04.38 Why? Because she's forgotten the commandments and the law 00:49:04.41\00:49:08.58 of God. 00:49:08.61\00:49:11.54 Let's keep going, what is the purpose of the law? 00:49:13.92\00:49:17.66 Some people say "Wait a minute, I thought we were New Testament" 00:49:17.69\00:49:23.44 "Christians, what's all this talk about the law?" 00:49:23.47\00:49:27.54 Remember, we already read in the book of Revelation 00:49:27.57\00:49:32.11 that God's last day... is Revelation in the New 00:49:32.14\00:49:34.86 Testament or the Old Testament? New Testament. 00:49:34.89\00:49:37.67 So it says in the New Testament that God's people will be 00:49:37.70\00:49:40.46 keeping His law. Amen? [Audience] Amen. 00:49:40.49\00:49:43.01 You might be thinking "Whoa, Pastor Asscherick, that's great" 00:49:43.04\00:49:45.87 "you made that up", you wish I made it up, I didn't make 00:49:45.90\00:49:48.65 it up, the harlot woman of Revelation 17, she was wearing 00:49:48.68\00:49:51.06 gold, and purple, and scarlet, but she didn't have blue. 00:49:51.09\00:49:56.00 Now look at this, this is taken from "The Legends of the Jews", 00:49:56.03\00:49:58.96 Vol. 3, by Louis Ginzberg, page 118, 119. 00:49:58.99\00:50:03.19 Beloved, this is what the Jews have historically believed 00:50:04.52\00:50:07.49 about the 10 commandment law, that it was written on 00:50:07.52\00:50:10.35 the very stone taken from God's throne. 00:50:10.38\00:50:13.12 Look at this: [text on screen] 00:50:13.15\00:50:16.64 That's what the Jews have believed. 00:50:23.73\00:50:26.94 Those 10 commandments weren't made out of some rock, 00:50:26.97\00:50:30.14 some rock that Moses just found in the Sinai desert floor. 00:50:30.17\00:50:33.69 No! They were carved out of a blue sapphire stone, 00:50:33.72\00:50:37.12 and look at this one, also from Ginsberg's "Legends of the Jews" 00:50:37.15\00:50:40.15 Vol. 6, page 49, [text on screen] 00:50:40.18\00:50:43.20 Beloved, I want you to think about that, the law of God 00:50:51.33\00:50:54.94 is taken from the very throne of God. 00:50:54.97\00:50:59.37 Remember, where was that law placed? 00:50:59.40\00:51:02.39 In the Ark, do you know what the Ark is a symbol of? 00:51:02.42\00:51:05.91 The throne of God. We had the 2 angels 00:51:05.94\00:51:08.83 that came up and what was between those 2 angels? 00:51:08.86\00:51:12.38 The mercy seat, and what was above the mercy seat? 00:51:12.41\00:51:15.45 The Shekinah glory, which represented the very presence 00:51:15.48\00:51:17.95 of God Himself; it was the presence of God Himself. 00:51:17.98\00:51:21.29 So here in the Most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary 00:51:21.32\00:51:23.94 is the mercy seat, the throne, and what's under the throne? 00:51:23.97\00:51:28.22 The tablets of stone made out of blue sapphire, cut from the very 00:51:28.25\00:51:32.62 throne of God. The Antichrist power says: 00:51:32.65\00:51:36.76 "Bah, we can do away... " You what?! 00:51:36.79\00:51:41.03 Can you do away with God's throne? Impossible. 00:51:43.09\00:51:47.36 Now let's wrap this up, first of all, the law is like 00:51:47.39\00:51:51.86 a mirror, it is not like a bar of soap. 00:51:51.89\00:51:56.06 What is the purpose of the law? Write there on your sheet: 00:51:57.45\00:52:00.38 the law is like a mirror, the law is designed to show us 00:52:00.41\00:52:02.96 2 things, 1- the righteousness of God, 00:52:02.99\00:52:08.50 and 2- the unrighteousness of man, that's the purpose 00:52:08.53\00:52:12.35 of the law. Have you ever had a black 00:52:12.38\00:52:14.87 bean on your tooth? Have you ever gone out 00:52:14.90\00:52:17.46 and eaten Mexican and got a bean on your tooth? 00:52:17.49\00:52:20.22 Anyone ever done that? A big old piece of parsley 00:52:20.25\00:52:23.21 on your tooth, ever done that? For those of you who are 00:52:23.24\00:52:25.96 married, have you ever got home and been washing you face 00:52:25.99\00:52:28.72 before you go to bed, and then you see that big piece of bean 00:52:28.75\00:52:31.47 on your tooth, ever done that? Yeah, it happens to me too. 00:52:31.50\00:52:34.05 I remember one time it happened to me, I turned to my wife, 00:52:34.08\00:52:36.82 I said "Sweetie!", we had been visiting with our friends 00:52:36.85\00:52:39.66 for 2 or 3 hours after we ate, "Sweetie! Do you see this?" 00:52:39.69\00:52:42.34 [Audience laughs] "Can you see that sweetie?" 00:52:42.37\00:52:45.10 She said "Oh yeah, you've got a great big piece of bean," 00:52:45.13\00:52:47.86 "I've been meaning to tell you that all night. " 00:52:47.89\00:52:50.73 I say "Sweetie, I've got news for you: I can't see that!" 00:52:50.76\00:52:53.48 "My eyes don't do that, so I need you to tell me" 00:52:53.51\00:52:56.87 "that that's there, you're my help meet, help me out now. " 00:52:56.90\00:53:01.61 The mirror told me that I had a problem, the mirror didn't 00:53:01.64\00:53:06.51 solve my problem. Someone say "amen"! 00:53:06.54\00:53:09.83 - [Audience] Amen. - The mirror told me I had 00:53:09.86\00:53:12.74 a need, the mirror tells me I need help. 00:53:12.77\00:53:19.13 The law is like a mirror, this is what James says 00:53:19.16\00:53:22.06 in the New Testament. "A man looks into the perfect" 00:53:22.09\00:53:25.20 "law of liberty and when we look into that mirror we see" 00:53:25.23\00:53:28.39 "that we are all unrighteous, there is none that does good," 00:53:28.42\00:53:31.11 "no, not one. " The law tells us God is 00:53:31.14\00:53:33.91 righteous, we're unrighteous, we need a Saviour. 00:53:33.94\00:53:38.60 Can you imagine trying to take that mirror and trying to scrub 00:53:38.63\00:53:41.28 your face up? The purpose of God's law 00:53:41.31\00:53:44.04 is to show us how righteous He is, and conversely, 00:53:44.07\00:53:46.93 how unrighteous we are, and then drive us to Jesus because 00:53:46.96\00:53:51.57 we need a Saviour to take away our unrighteousness and our sin. 00:53:51.60\00:53:56.61 That's the purpose of the law. We don't keep the law of God 00:53:56.64\00:54:00.04 in order to be saved, in fact, go right down to your study 00:54:00.07\00:54:02.71 guide, the underlined portion says: So God's faithful 00:54:02.74\00:54:06.16 will keep His law because they love Him, not in order to be 00:54:06.19\00:54:09.69 saved, but because they are saved. 00:54:09.72\00:54:12.85 Some people today say "don't worry about that old law," 00:54:12.88\00:54:15.98 "the law has been done away with, the law has been nailed" 00:54:16.01\00:54:18.67 "to the cross", whoa! Something was nailed 00:54:18.70\00:54:21.36 to the cross, but let me tell you what wasn't nailed 00:54:21.39\00:54:24.27 to the cross, it wasn't God's 10 commandment law. 00:54:24.30\00:54:27.24 Which one of those commandments do you want to get rid of, 00:54:27.27\00:54:29.97 I just gave them to you quickly in brief, which one do you 00:54:30.00\00:54:32.94 want to throw out? The one that says you can have 00:54:32.97\00:54:35.72 other God's, number 1 Anyone here want to throw 00:54:35.75\00:54:38.39 that one out? How about 2, that says don't 00:54:38.42\00:54:41.05 worship an image, anyone want to throw that one out? 00:54:41.08\00:54:43.93 How about 3 that says we're not going to take the name 00:54:43.96\00:54:46.49 of the Lord thy God in vain, anyone here, any New Testament 00:54:46.52\00:54:48.99 Christian want to say we don't need that? 00:54:49.02\00:54:51.58 How about 4 that says "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" 00:54:51.61\00:54:54.32 let's throw that one out, right? How about the one that says 00:54:54.35\00:54:57.17 "honor your father and your mother", should we get 00:54:57.20\00:54:59.96 rid of that one as New Testament Christians? 00:54:59.99\00:55:02.76 Oh, but the one that says "don't kill", that's for 00:55:02.79\00:55:05.75 the Old Testament; I don't think so. 00:55:05.78\00:55:08.27 How about the one that says "Thou shalt not steal", 00:55:08.30\00:55:10.81 or "commit adultery"? No. What about the one that says 00:55:10.84\00:55:13.55 "don't lie?" Or the one that says... 00:55:13.58\00:55:16.21 Which one are you going to get rid of? 00:55:16.24\00:55:18.69 - [Audience] None of them. - Amen. 00:55:18.72\00:55:21.14 The difference is the New Testament was trying to 00:55:21.17\00:55:24.04 communicate to us that we don't keep the law in order 00:55:24.07\00:55:26.78 to be saved, but because we are saved, the law tells us 00:55:26.81\00:55:29.56 we need a Saviour, the law drives us to Jesus 00:55:29.59\00:55:32.21 and Jesus saves us. Then God gives us power 00:55:32.24\00:55:35.03 to keep His law, not in order to be saved, but because 00:55:35.06\00:55:37.88 we are saved. 00:55:37.91\00:55:39.75 The law is like a mirror! I want to ask 2 questions 00:55:39.78\00:55:42.48 as we close tonight, and the ministry partners are going 00:55:42.51\00:55:45.27 to be handing out a decision card, in fact they're going 00:55:45.30\00:55:48.03 to stand up and do that right now; my ministry partners are 00:55:48.06\00:55:50.75 just ready to go just like that, a decision card. 00:55:50.78\00:55:53.46 2 questions tonight's as we close, 1: has this presentation 00:55:53.49\00:55:56.16 been clear, yes or no? [Audience] Yes. 00:55:56.19\00:55:58.87 Do you see the conflict over the law of God, that God's law 00:55:58.90\00:56:01.77 is eternal and lasting, but others are going to try 00:56:01.80\00:56:04.39 to take away from that law. Do you see the conflict, 00:56:04.42\00:56:07.18 yes or no? [Audience] Yes. 00:56:07.21\00:56:09.53 Daniel 7 says that the Antichristian power is actually 00:56:09.56\00:56:12.48 going to seek to try to do away with God's law, yet God's law 00:56:12.51\00:56:15.21 is eternal, it's immutable, it's everlasting. 00:56:15.24\00:56:17.78 We saw in Revelation that that woman was actually wearing 00:56:17.81\00:56:20.36 the colors of the high priest, but she didn't have blue, why? 00:56:20.39\00:56:23.33 Because she had forgotten God's commandments. 00:56:23.36\00:56:26.75 Beloved, we do need the law, but the law doesn't save us. 00:56:26.78\00:56:32.04 Someone say amen to that. [Audience] Amen. 00:56:32.07\00:56:34.49 I want to say it again, the law doesn't save us, only Jesus 00:56:34.52\00:56:37.26 can save us. 00:56:37.29\00:56:41.55 So you've got a card in front of you, I just want to quickly 00:56:41.58\00:56:44.40 go over it. Please take a moment 00:56:44.43\00:56:46.53 to fill that out, our ministry partners are putting 00:56:46.56\00:56:49.21 there cards in your hands, if anyone needs one just lift 00:56:49.24\00:56:51.98 your hand up to heaven. I see one there, excellent. 00:56:52.01\00:56:54.78 1, it say: "I understood tonight's presentation", 00:56:54.81\00:56:57.62 please fill this out, it helps me to know if we're 00:56:57.65\00:57:00.17 getting it. I look at these cards 00:57:00.20\00:57:02.54 and it's very helpful for me to know, are we getting it? 00:57:02.57\00:57:05.47 1- "I understood tonight's presentation", 00:57:05.50\00:57:08.01 2- "I reaffirm my personal acceptance of Jesus Christ's" 00:57:08.04\00:57:10.85 "death for me. " Do you want to do that, 00:57:10.88\00:57:13.45 just check it, say "Yeah, tonight, hallelujah, glory to" 00:57:13.48\00:57:16.16 "God, I reaffirm my commitment to Jesus, I'll do that. " 00:57:16.19\00:57:18.72 If I had a pen up here I'd fill that out no problem. 00:57:18.75\00:57:21.31 3- "For the first time I want to accept Jesus Christ" 00:57:21.34\00:57:24.19 "as my personal Saviour from sin and death. " 00:57:24.22\00:57:26.62 If you've never accepted Christ as your personal Saviour 00:57:26.65\00:57:29.61 before, this'll be the time to do it. 00:57:29.64\00:57:32.36 Or maybe you did, a long time ago, so long ago you can 00:57:32.39\00:57:35.31 barely remember, and you want to come back, you check that. 00:57:35.34\00:57:38.08 4- "I have wandered from God and His plan for my life," 00:57:38.11\00:57:40.72 "and I want to return to Him. " Check that if that applies 00:57:40.75\00:57:43.46 to you. 5- "I'd like to be baptized. " 00:57:43.49\00:57:46.32 As we've already said, Thursday night we begin our baptismal 00:57:46.35\00:57:49.16 class right over here. We're going to have a baptism 00:57:49.19\00:57:51.75 at the end of this meeting, not this meeting, but at 00:57:51.78\00:57:55.01 the end of the month we're going to have a powerful baptism. 00:57:55.04\00:58:00.60
