First thing we want to notice
here in Daniel Chapter 10,

is that Daniel has an
encounter with none other

than the Lord Jesus Christ.

you do not see a
lot of prophecy in here.

used to study Daniel,

I used to think Daniel 10,

there's not a lot in
there so I don't really

need to study that
because I am into prophecy and I

want to
understand end time events.

I want to see the beast,
I want to understand what

they mean, and I
would skip over Daniel 10.

It's like when I was a
kid and my mom would say,

eat your vegetables.

I wanted to get
them out of the way,

because I didn't like them,

and get to the
good stuff on the plate.

Potatoes, gravy, and
so Daniel 10 was like,

When I was a kid I realized,
at lease later on in life,

vegetables were the good stuff.

what nurtured and grew me,

That is the same with Daniel 10,

Daniel 10 is a the good stuff.

Why? Because Daniel 10 is
where Daniel encounters Christ.

see a man in an experience of

sanctification and we
learned what it feels like,

experience in sanctification.

the Christian experience.

Daniel says in verse 2, he
was mourning for 3 full weeks.

It says that he ate no
pleasant food, no meat, no wine

came into his mouth nor
did he anoint himself at all

till 3 whole
weeks were fulfilled.

Then it opens
before him, that Jesus

appears in glorious form.

This appearing of Jesus to
Daniel is very striking and

similar to another
appearance of Jesus to

John the Revelator in
the book of Revelation.

First let's read the one
here in chapter 10 of Daniel.

He says in verses 5 and 6,
verse 5, "I lifted up my eyes"

"and looked and behold a
certain man clothed in linen,"

it says James, "who's
waist was girded with gold,"

then in verse 6,
"his body was like beryl,"

"he is face like the
appearance of lightning,"

this is important
to highlight here.

"His eyes like torches of fire,
his arms and his feet like"

"burnished or
polished brass in color."

"The sound of his

What a vision!

we're looking at here is we are

looking at Daniel seeing a
man who is identified as clothed

Jesus yet in Daniel's mind.

He is not sure who this being is

But we know it's Jesus because

we can see the
seven characteristics,

"the clothed in linen,"

"the appearance of lightning,"

"the eyes as lamps of fire,

"arms and feet like

"and the words

We see all these similar
characteristics in the book of

vision on the Lord's Day.

and girded about his waist"

"with a golden girdle."

What is really
powerful about this Ty,

Daniel's experience with God.

He begins by purposing in his

Then he gets a vision through

Nebuchadnezzar,
which is again given to him

and he interprets it.

Then he gets his own
visions in Daniel 7 and onward.

Then Gabriel
comes and visits him.

You see this
progression taken place.

Now you get Daniel Chapter
10, and it is incredible,

comes to visit Daniel.

Not an Angel, not
a dream or a vision,

not someone else's dream
or vision, but God Himself.

This is amazing and
it's obvious that this

is overwhelming to him.

The vision of this
glorious being in verses 5 and 6

overcomes Daniel
and in verse 7 it says,

"he was filled with
great terror and he fell upon"

"his hands and
knees and upon his face."

It says in verse 8
"that he is comeliness,"

an old English word for
beauty, "was turned in him"

"into corruption."

In other words, Daniel
began to realize his own

sinfulness in the
presence of this One

who appears to
him, Jesus Christ.

And Daniel was a man who
could stand without fault

before his enemies.

Daniel is a man who
is blameless before those

who were seeking to
find fault with him.

Who is seeking to mudslinging
in the political world.

Daniel is
exemplifying here friends,

what sanctification looks like.

Sanctification, in
the follower of Christ,

does not look like
I am holier than you.

I'm better than you.
I'm more righteous than you.

Sanctification is the appearance
of meekness and humility.

So much so that when you
come in contact with Christ,

the more you see of
Christ the less grandeur,

the less righteousness,

the less goodness
you see in yourself.

You feel like
you have no strength,

you are not good,
you are not righteous,

and while the other men fled,

who are with Daniel
when this vision comes,

he himself retains no strength,

and he falls on his
face as though he is dead.

In the first 9 it
says that a deep sleep fell

upon him, as he laid
there upon his face before

the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now Ty what is
interesting about verse 9 is the

transition that is taking place.

He has no strength and
it says there in verse 9,

"yet I heard the
voice of his words:"

"and when I heard
the voice of his words,"

"then I was in a deep sleep,"

Jesus says in Matthew 11:28,

"come unto me all Ye that labor"

"and are heavy laden
and I will give you rest."

Daniel is terrified,
the men are terrified,

he has no strength,
no righteousness and yet

Jesus, when he
speaks, when he speaks to him.

When God doesn't speak to
us, when we don't feel God is

present with us.

We don't feel that God
is communicating to us,

we can be overwhelmed
with guilt and feel unworthy.

We can feel separated from God.

But God assures
Daniel that he has His favor.

He speaks to him.

If you get in a
tiff with your wife,

I know you never do.

My wife and I
sometimes have what we call

these intense
moments of fellowship.

When we get in a
difference, the words stop.

There is a lack of
communication and that

does not go well.

Daniel is in a situation
where he is feeling like does

God love me? Does God except me?

Is He still there for me?

When he hears the words
he gets the peace of God.

He comes and feels
that God has accepted him.

He has the rest
that Jesus promises us.

Then the angel Gabriel
appears again in verse 10.

It says, "a hand touched
me, which made me tremble"

"on my knees and on
my palms of my hands."

And notice this James in
verse 11, "and he said to me,"

that's Gabriel
speaking, "oh Daniel,"

"a man greatly beloved,
understand the words that I"

"speak to you and stand upright:
for I have been sent to you."

And this is, I mean just
think about this, he is filled

with terror, he is
overcome, he is on his face,

and trembling and here's
the message that Gabriel gives.

Gabriel says, Daniel
God loves you greatly.

You are greatly beloved of God.

Stand on your feet we need
to do some communicating here.

I have appeared not to
cause you to tremble, and Jesus

didn't appear to cause you to
tremble, but to assure you are

deeply loved by God.
00:09:12.20\00:09:15.01
That is the very time we need
to be assured of God's love.

Friends, there are times
in our lives when we feel like
00:09:17.50\00:09:20.42
we are no good, we are
worthless, we have nothing in us

that commends us to God.
00:09:23.38\00:09:24.48
That is the very
time that we need to know
00:09:24.51\00:09:26.32
that God loves us.

Because when God communicates
that He loves in that time,

it is based on who He is
and not based on who we are.

It is based upon His
goodness, His righteousness,

not our goodness
or our righteousness.

So this speaks powerful
truths to those of us who are

followers of the Lord
because as we progress in our

Christian experience
we can begin to think that

we are accepted of God
because of how good or holier,

righteous or
obedient we have become in our

Christian experience.

Daniel is sharing with
us right here in Daniel 10

that it is still not
based on our goodness,

it's based on God's love to us.

Man, he stands up James,
and we go at the latter part

of verse 11 and he
is still trembling.

Gabriel told him, you
are greatly beloved, stand up

you do not need to be
terrified, stand before me,

I need to share
with you now concerning

the vision that you had.

He says to him, don't
be afraid, in verse 12.

He has to keep assuring Daniel.

Daniel doesn't become
nonchalant in Gabriel's presence

He doesn't take on an
attitude of ill-reverence he is

yet the angel is trying

to assure him.

has said that this is the

phrase in Scripture.

Every time a human being
has an encounter with God,

or an angel sent
from God, the message is

don't be afraid, fear not.

That is an appropriate message
because God wants to assure

us in His presence, He
wants to communicate with us.

You see that repeated whenever
an angel visits or comes,

because the brightness and

the glory and the goodness and

the love of God contrasts

with who we are with our

unrighteousness,
with our lack of goodness,

does cause fear, a natural fear.

I have never had
such an encounter,

but I know that just in

searching the Scriptures

and having encounters heart

to heart with the Savior
and learning about God sometimes

has just bowed me down
with a sense of unworthiness.

Not because God is
pressing a sense of unworthiness

upon me, but
because God is holy.

God is good, God is
righteous, God is love and

everything that I see
in Him causes me to see in

myself those things that
are out of harmony with Him.

He does not leave me
there, He wants to lift me up so

that I had the
privilege of becoming more

and more like Him in character

so that the contrast
becomes less distinct.

Absolutely so in that sense
every one of us has had that

encounter who have pursued after
God and sought to follow God.

We all have encountered
Him in such a way that causes

us to tremble unto fear.

message, fear not.

It is a beautiful message
as we tremble before the Lord.

It is a beautiful
assurance to us that we need

As we move on here look
at how Daniel gradually gains

more strength and more courage.

He first of all
is trembling and then

falls into a sleep.

He's resting Christ and
then there are the words

that bring that
experience, that rest to Him

the words he hears spoken.

He awakens and is touched
that caused him to get to his

hands and knees and then
he is touched again and he

stands upon his
feet still trembling.

You see a progression
here that is taking place.

Friends we cannot
make one move toward God.

We cannot stand in His presence.

We can't even
bow in His presence.

We cannot rise to our
feet, we cannot move toward Him

without His divine intervention.

Without Him coming to us.

Without Him touching us
and without Him speaking to us,

there is no goodness
or righteousness in us.

God is consistently
reassuring us that He loves us

and in that He is pursuing us.

It is the divine
initiative of God toward us

That is God's plan, that
is what God is seeking to do.

Here the book of Daniel
chapter 10 we see God working

of us unto Himself.
