relationship with God. 00:00:21.27\00:00:22.38 It is going to be very real and very compliable to your life 00:00:22.41\00:00:24.74 and to the time in which we live. 00:00:24.77\00:00:27.13 We are seeing events transpire that had been predicted in the 00:00:27.16\00:00:30.32 book up Daniel. 00:00:30.35\00:00:31.32 Entering into experiences, into trials that are also duplicates 00:00:31.33\00:00:35.93 of what we see in the book of Daniel. 00:00:35.96\00:00:37.62 We want to encourage you to view and encourage others 00:00:37.65\00:00:41.14 friends, neighbors, to view these Book. 00:01:17.31\00:01:19.52 We are going to be studying the book of Daniel. 00:01:19.55\00:01:21.61 My name is James Rafferty, and I'm James' co-host, Ty Gibson. 00:01:21.64\00:01:25.83 We are happy that you have joined us for the study of 00:01:25.86\00:01:27.61 the book of Daniel. 00:01:27.65\00:01:28.68 It is an incredible book that seems to meet James, 00:01:28.71\00:01:30.96 to run in two basic tracks. 00:01:30.99\00:01:33.81 On the one and in the book of Daniel you have a story 00:01:33.84\00:01:36.34 line of Daniels life, a captive in Babylon in a foreign country. 00:01:36.37\00:01:41.32 His story unfolds through the book of Daniel. 00:01:41.35\00:01:44.85 He tells exactly what he is experiencing as a captive 00:01:44.88\00:01:48.37 in Babylon and then the second track that runs through the book 00:01:48.40\00:01:52.70 of Daniel are the prophecies. 00:01:52.73\00:01:54.10 The visions that are received one by Nebuchadnezzar, 00:01:54.13\00:01:56.83 a second by Nebuchadnezzar, and then Daniel receives visions 00:01:56.86\00:02:00.73 and those visions are brought forth throughout the book 00:02:00.76\00:02:04.70 of Daniel as well. 00:02:04.73\00:02:05.70 So we have storyline, and then we have prophecies that are 00:02:05.71\00:02:09.18 revealed in the book of Daniel. 00:02:09.21\00:02:10.96 One of the interesting story lines, in the book of Daniel, 00:02:10.99\00:02:13.94 is not written by Daniel, or 00:02:13.97\00:02:15.37 about Daniel, it is written by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:02:15.40\00:02:17.88 It is about Nebuchadnezzar, a heathen king, ruling the world 00:02:17.91\00:02:21.72 and turns his heart fully to God. 00:02:21.75\00:02:24.10 Through the witness of Babylon in the experiences of these 00:02:24.13\00:02:26.94 visions and dreams that we are going to be talking about. 00:02:26.97\00:02:29.34 The bottom line of what we are going to realize friends, 00:02:29.37\00:02:31.91 is that the book of Daniel is not so much about prophecy, 00:02:31.94\00:02:35.14 as it is about relationships. 00:02:35.17\00:02:37.04 In fact, prophecy in Daniel is not as much sensational 00:02:37.07\00:02:41.13 as it is relational. 00:02:41.16\00:02:42.77 The whole book of Daniel in its 00:02:42.80\00:02:44.71 prophetic outline is directing us to a relationship with God. 00:02:44.74\00:02:49.37 The name Daniel, the author of the book, means God will judge, 00:02:49.40\00:02:55.54 or God will vindicate. 00:02:55.57\00:02:57.13 We find that throughout the book of Daniel that God is in this 00:02:57.16\00:03:00.23 process of leading Daniel and 00:03:00.27\00:03:02.43 others through providential 00:03:02.47\00:03:04.72 experiences that pan out in 00:03:04.76\00:03:06.95 judgment, that pan out over and over again. 00:03:06.98\00:03:10.22 Daniel for example, being judged righteous and vindicated through 00:03:10.25\00:03:14.22 experiences he has with the other wise men of Babylon who 00:03:14.25\00:03:19.38 are of Babylon, where as he is a captive 00:03:19.41\00:03:22.12 in this foreign country. 00:03:22.15\00:03:24.01 Then we have prophecies, in the book of Daniel, that highlight 00:03:24.04\00:03:28.69 and emphasize judgment and point foreword to the end of time 00:03:28.72\00:03:32.43 when God's people will be vindicated before their enemies. 00:03:32.46\00:03:36.47 The enemies of God's people will be judged as well. 00:03:36.50\00:03:40.72 Absolutely, in fact that is the theme that runs all through 00:03:40.75\00:03:42.75 the book of Daniel in fact it even begins the book of Daniel. 00:03:42.78\00:03:46.64 What you have at the very beginning of the book of Daniel 00:03:46.67\00:03:49.34 you a judgment that comes to God's people. 00:03:49.37\00:03:51.86 In Daniel chapter 1, let's open our Bibles there. 00:03:51.89\00:03:54.94 We would like to invite you to join us, if you have a Bible 00:03:54.97\00:03:57.59 open it up and we will begin right here in Daniel 1:1. 00:03:57.62\00:04:02.51 "In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah 00:04:02.54\00:04:05.96 came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem 00:04:05.99\00:04:08.84 and he besieged it and the Lord" verse two says, 00:04:08.87\00:04:11.86 and the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah, into his hand 00:04:11.89\00:04:16.91 with part of the vessels of the house of God: 00:04:16.94\00:04:19.13 which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of 00:04:19.16\00:04:22.19 his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure 00:04:22.22\00:04:25.10 house of his god. " 00:04:25.13\00:04:26.42 So right here Ty, we have a judgment of sorts. 00:04:26.45\00:04:29.14 We have the Lord making a decision, a judgment about His 00:04:29.17\00:04:32.00 people and there are reasons for this. 00:04:32.03\00:04:34.12 He has decided to allow His people to go captive 00:04:34.15\00:04:37.26 into Babylon. 00:04:37.29\00:04:38.55 The key word here is allow. 00:04:38.58\00:04:40.06 The language here is very interesting. 00:04:40.09\00:04:42.50 It says the Lord gave Jehoiakim into his hands, that is into 00:04:42.53\00:04:48.27 Nebuchadnezzar's hands. 00:04:48.30\00:04:49.27 So God is operating here from His vantage point of Divine 00:04:49.28\00:04:52.69 wisdom, He is looking down upon the situation of His people. 00:04:52.72\00:04:56.11 He sees their whole history. 00:04:56.14\00:04:57.33 He sees exactly what is necessary in order to arrest 00:04:57.36\00:05:01.85 their attention in order to lead them, guide them back to Him 00:05:01.88\00:05:05.75 to repentance to come back to the Lord. 00:05:05.78\00:05:08.65 Is God's decision, His discernment, what is best at 00:05:08.68\00:05:13.16 this point is to give His people over into the hands of 00:05:13.19\00:05:18.11 their enemies, sometimes we refer to this as 00:05:18.14\00:05:20.95 Divine Providence. 00:05:20.98\00:05:23.01 Even though it is happening here on a massive scale with a whole 00:05:23.04\00:05:25.31 nation that is given over, it happens on a, guess we may 00:05:25.34\00:05:29.42 call it, a micro level in our lives. 00:05:29.45\00:05:31.60 That is where we want to be. Yes! 00:05:31.63\00:05:32.60 God looks at us, He sees exactly what is going on, 00:05:32.61\00:05:35.94 He sees the pattern of the decisions we are making. 00:05:35.97\00:05:38.68 God makes judgments, He makes decisions as to what would be 00:05:38.71\00:05:43.20 best for us as individuals and those whose lives intersect with 00:05:43.23\00:05:47.84 and God allows certain things to take place that 00:05:47.87\00:05:51.53 are for our good. 00:05:51.56\00:05:53.00 I really like that phrase, that last phrase you used there Ty, 00:05:53.03\00:05:56.04 if we go back in the Bible and you have a number of prophets 00:05:56.07\00:05:59.52 that predicted this captivity. 00:05:59.55\00:06:01.32 They predicted this outcome because Israel and Judah 00:06:01.35\00:06:05.18 God's people, were actually rebelling against God. 00:06:05.21\00:06:08.63 They were not really carrying out His will and God's will in 00:06:08.66\00:06:12.27 this context was not only that they would be blessed, 00:06:12.30\00:06:14.99 and a special people, and follow the light that He had given them 00:06:15.02\00:06:18.50 but they would also shower these blessings upon their neighbors. 00:06:18.53\00:06:21.63 And out to the rest of the world 00:06:21.66\00:06:23.25 They were keeping them to themselves and then they were 00:06:23.28\00:06:26.12 actually turning away from the light and the blessings that 00:06:26.15\00:06:29.04 God had for them and they were becoming worse than the heathen 00:06:29.07\00:06:31.52 around them. 00:06:31.56\00:06:32.53 So what was God going to do? He was going to allow them 00:06:32.54\00:06:35.35 to go captive, why? 00:06:35.38\00:06:37.02 Well in Jeremiah 24 God is here predicting the captivity. 00:06:37.05\00:06:42.12 Isaiah was a predictor of this captivity. 00:06:42.16\00:06:44.17 Jeremiah lived through the time of this captivity. 00:06:44.21\00:06:47.29 In Chapter 24:5 God speaking of this captivity in the figure 00:06:47.33\00:06:54.26 of figs, He says, "for thus saith the Lord God of Israel 00:06:54.30\00:06:59.59 like these good figs so will I acknowledge them that are 00:06:59.63\00:07:04.60 carried away captive of Judah, whom I sent out of this place 00:07:04.64\00:07:09.57 into the lead of the Chaldeans for their good. " 00:07:09.61\00:07:12.34 For their good? For their good. 00:07:12.38\00:07:13.75 For their good, here's the thing when God in His Providence 00:07:13.79\00:07:16.95 orchestrates what is for a good, what is best, by giving us over 00:07:16.99\00:07:22.85 to our decisions that we are making the whole time we need to 00:07:22.88\00:07:27.62 understand God's attitude, His heart, His posture towards us is 00:07:27.66\00:07:32.36 not merely to lash out and somehow make us suffer. 00:07:32.40\00:07:37.76 It wasn't His will that His people would suffer at all. 00:07:37.79\00:07:40.35 It's not His will that we would suffer at all. 00:07:40.38\00:07:42.11 but God knows that suffering is very educational in some times 00:07:42.15\00:07:46.29 are decisions are moving in a direction where the only way God 00:07:46.33\00:07:50.29 can possibly get our attention so that things to work out for 00:07:50.33\00:07:54.89 our own good is to let us eat, or to experience, or somehow 00:07:54.92\00:07:59.64 go through the very things that we ourselves are tending toward 00:07:59.68\00:08:04.36 by our decisions. 00:08:04.39\00:08:05.37 I love Jeremiah 12:7 James, it goes very well with what you 00:08:05.40\00:08:10.78 just quoted bear from Isaiah. 00:08:10.81\00:08:12.39 in Jeremiah 12:7 when God has given His people over into 00:08:12.43\00:08:16.57 captivity, He voices His heart toward them and uses beautiful 00:08:16.60\00:08:22.57 language to describe how He feels about these very 00:08:22.61\00:08:26.01 people who are rebelling against Him that are going 00:08:26.05\00:08:30.06 into captivity, He says in Jeremiah 12:7, "I have 00:08:30.09\00:08:34.06 forsaken my house," God says. 00:08:34.10\00:08:36.00 "I have left my heritage. " Now watch this He says, 00:08:36.04\00:08:38.65 "I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand 00:08:38.68\00:08:44.18 of her enemies. " 00:08:44.22\00:08:45.79 This is so precious because even though they are in rebellion 00:08:45.83\00:08:48.45 God describes His people, His rebellious people, 00:08:48.49\00:08:52.92 the dearly beloved of My soul. 00:08:52.95\00:08:56.00 That is God's attitude towards us even when His judgments 00:08:56.03\00:08:59.82 are adverse judgments that bring us pain. 00:08:59.86\00:09:02.69 So what we see here in these two verses, is a loving God 00:09:02.73\00:09:06.49 A loving Father who is doing what is the best for us given 00:09:06.52\00:09:10.25 our choices or our situation. 00:09:10.29\00:09:12.47 Now the reason why this is so important I think in what you 00:09:12.50\00:09:16.39 are trying to say Ty is that this National giving over, 00:09:16.43\00:09:20.28 this National judgment happens to us so often on an individual 00:09:20.32\00:09:25.11 basis, so individually we find trials in our lives, we find 00:09:25.14\00:09:29.89 difficulties, we find circumstances that do not seem 00:09:29.93\00:09:34.25 good to us and we tend to question God, especially if we 00:09:34.29\00:09:38.58 are believers. 00:09:38.61\00:09:39.77 We tend to wonder why did God let this happen? 00:09:39.81\00:09:41.55 Even if we are unbelievers we question why is God allowing 00:09:41.58\00:09:44.52 this to happen? 00:09:44.55\00:09:45.52 We do not recognize in that, the hand of God. 00:09:45.53\00:09:49.06 He is working for our good and we are His dearly beloved. 00:09:49.10\00:09:51.75 When I say dearly beloved, when you say dearly beloved, friends 00:09:51.78\00:09:54.57 when we say dearly beloved, we are not talking about believers. 00:09:54.60\00:09:57.35 We are talking about the principle God so loved the world 00:09:57.39\00:10:00.83 that He gave His only begotten Son, we are God's dearly beloved 00:10:00.86\00:10:04.13 The whole world is God's dearly beloved and yet it suffers. 00:10:04.17\00:10:07.97 It has these trials, it has 00:10:08.01\00:10:09.30 these terrible pains that it is 00:10:09.34\00:10:10.56 going through and if you would 00:10:10.60\00:10:11.79 have asked Daniel, Daniel 00:10:11.83\00:10:13.23 what do you think of God's plan? 00:10:13.26\00:10:15.04 Daniel was just a young man, He was just a teenager, 15, 16, 00:10:15.08\00:10:18.23 years of age. 00:10:18.26\00:10:19.26 What do you think of God's plan? 00:10:19.30\00:10:20.73 God has decided that you will be taken from your home land, 00:10:20.77\00:10:25.10 you will be made a eunuch, and that is what Isaiah 31says, 00:10:25.14\00:10:29.43 The princes would be made Eunuchs, you would be made a 00:10:29.47\00:10:32.65 Eunuch in the kingdom of Babylon, you would serve a 00:10:32.68\00:10:35.82 heathen kind for the rest of your life. 00:10:35.86\00:10:36.83 You will be severed from your family and you will never have 00:10:36.84\00:10:39.35 a family, you will never have kids or grandkids. 00:10:39.39\00:10:41.27 Ever, Daniel what do you think of that plan? What do you think 00:10:41.31\00:10:44.17 of that plan Daniel, Huh, Huh? 00:10:44.20\00:10:47.09 Daniel would probably go that doesn't sound like such a great 00:10:47.62\00:10:50.26 plan, but if you were to take Daniel all the way through his 00:10:50.30\00:10:53.42 experience to the very end of his life, at the very end of his 00:10:53.45\00:10:56.54 life you would say Daniel what do you think of your life 00:10:56.57\00:10:58.44 looking back? Looking back what do you think? 00:10:58.47\00:11:00.78 Ah, I wouldn't have it any other way. 00:11:00.81\00:11:02.06 I've read where an author says 00:11:02.10\00:11:05.29 that if we were in eternity 00:11:05.33\00:11:08.64 future, to look back over the 00:11:08.67\00:11:10.87 entire history of our lives, 00:11:10.91\00:11:12.75 each of us as individuals, 00:11:12.78\00:11:14.55 we will come to the conclusion that we would not chose to be 00:11:14.58\00:11:18.75 led any other way than we were lead. 00:11:18.78\00:11:23.36 God is incredibly, with infinite wisdom, orchestrating exactly 00:11:23.40\00:11:30.68 what is best for us in every given situation. 00:11:30.71\00:11:34.88 In this sense James, He looks upon us and He would rather that 00:11:34.92\00:11:38.65 we would make other choices that what we are making 00:11:38.69\00:11:42.22 often times, but God factors in our free will, and factoring in 00:11:42.26\00:11:46.53 our free will and the choices we are making, God often times 00:11:46.57\00:11:51.82 reluctantly has to give us over to things He would rather not 00:11:51.85\00:11:57.07 give us over too. 00:11:57.10\00:11:58.07 Things He would rather we not experience. 00:11:58.08\00:12:00.18 God is not in favor of slavery. 00:12:00.22\00:12:01.66 Daniel was made a slave in a foreign land. 00:12:01.70\00:12:04.08 God is anti-slavery. 00:12:04.12\00:12:05.74 He did not want Daniel to suffer this fate, but He knew from His 00:12:05.77\00:12:11.53 vantage point that Divine wisdom he knew that ultimately a plan 00:12:11.57\00:12:17.30 was working out, that was for their best good involved God 00:12:17.33\00:12:21.65 releasing them to the direction of their choices. 00:12:21.69\00:12:25.51 Yes and we see this as parents, as grandparents, we see choices 00:12:25.54\00:12:30.04 that our children and grandchildren make and we are 00:12:30.08\00:12:34.87 helpless, in a sense, held back by their freedom of choice even 00:12:34.90\00:12:37.70 though we have some authority over them and power over them, 00:12:37.73\00:12:41.23 some influence over them, but at the same time we have to 00:12:41.26\00:12:44.72 allow them to make certain choices. 00:12:44.75\00:12:45.74 I like what you said about that author, 00:12:45.78\00:12:46.98 I was thinking about Paul. 00:12:47.02\00:12:48.08 When you said in Romans 8:18, "For I reckon that the suffering 00:12:48.11\00:12:52.52 of this present time are not worthy to be compared. " 00:12:52.56\00:12:55.12 "The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be 00:12:55.15\00:12:57.76 compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us. " 00:12:57.79\00:13:00.37 What is God's purpose in allowing this? 00:13:00.40\00:13:02.88 It is to get us to heaven, it is to get us saved. 00:13:02.91\00:13:05.45 It is to, and I want to say more than just to heaven saved, it is 00:13:05.49\00:13:09.00 to save us from our bad choices to save us from the ultimate 00:13:09.04\00:13:12.87 result of sin. 00:13:12.90\00:13:14.12 It is precisely because God 00:13:14.15\00:13:16.61 loves us and regards as His 00:13:16.64\00:13:19.13 dearly beloved, that He finds 00:13:19.17\00:13:21.29 it necessary, sometimes, to 00:13:21.33\00:13:23.56 release us to our choices so 00:13:23.60\00:13:25.77 that we touch that which is hot we will be inclined to pull back 00:13:25.80\00:13:31.15 from it and we will not suffer greater loss, He actually allows 00:13:31.19\00:13:35.89 us to make smaller mistakes in order to prevent us from 00:13:35.92\00:13:39.92 making colossal mistakes which would work our ruin. 00:13:39.96\00:13:43.89 This is one of the added aspects of what God is doing. 00:13:43.92\00:13:47.69 When we go through these trials 00:13:47.73\00:13:49.34 they draw us to God. 00:13:49.37\00:13:51.87 They draws us to reach out to 00:13:51.90\00:13:53.49 Him in ways perhaps they have 00:13:53.52\00:13:55.08 never done before. 00:13:55.11\00:13:56.12 Some might say well they drive me away, well that is the choice 00:13:56.15\00:13:59.72 we can make and God is seeking to help us 00:13:59.75\00:14:02.66 to realize our need of Him and be drawn to Him. 00:14:02.70\00:14:06.19 To reach out to Him and connect in ways that we haven't before. 00:14:06.23\00:14:10.09 That is what we are going to find as we continue to study 00:14:10.12\00:14:12.53 this powerful book of Daniel. 00:14:12.57\00:14:14.79 Don't go away, we will be right back! 00:14:14.83\00:14:16.36
