relationship with God. 00:00:21.22\00:00:22.55 It is going to be very real and very compliable to your life 00:00:22.58\00:00:24.69 and to the time in which we live. 00:00:24.72\00:00:27.09 We are seeing events transpire that had been predicted in the 00:00:27.12\00:00:30.26 book up Daniel. 00:00:30.29\00:00:31.63 Entering into experiences, into trials that are also duplicates 00:00:31.66\00:00:35.83 of what we see in the book of Daniel. 00:00:35.86\00:00:37.53 We want to encourage you to view and encourage others 00:00:37.57\00:00:41.04 friends, neighbors, to view these Book. 00:01:17.27\00:01:19.47 We are going to be studying the book of Daniel. 00:01:19.51\00:01:21.54 My name is James Rafferty, and I'm James' co-host, Ty Gibson. 00:01:21.58\00:01:25.78 We are happy that you have joined us for the study of 00:01:25.81\00:01:27.55 the book of Daniel. 00:01:27.58\00:01:28.92 It is an incredible book that seems to meet James, 00:01:28.95\00:01:30.92 to run in two basic tracks. 00:01:30.95\00:01:33.76 On the one and in the book of Daniel you have a story 00:01:33.79\00:01:36.29 line of Daniels life, a captive in Babylon in a foreign country. 00:01:36.32\00:01:41.23 His story unfolds through the book of Daniel. 00:01:41.26\00:01:44.77 He tells exactly what he is experiencing as a captive 00:01:44.80\00:01:48.27 in Babylon and then the second track that runs through the book 00:01:48.30\00:01:52.61 of Daniel are the prophecies. 00:01:52.64\00:01:54.01 The visions that are received one by Nebuchadnezzar, 00:01:54.04\00:01:56.75 a second by Nebuchadnezzar, and then Daniel receives visions 00:01:56.78\00:02:00.72 and those visions are brought forth throughout the book 00:02:00.75\00:02:04.69 of Daniel as well. 00:02:04.72\00:02:06.05 So we have storyline, and then we have prophecies that are 00:02:06.09\00:02:09.16 revealed in the book of Daniel. 00:02:09.19\00:02:10.93 One of the interesting story lines, in the book of Daniel, 00:02:10.96\00:02:13.93 is not written by Daniel, or 00:02:13.96\00:02:15.33 about Daniel, it is written by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:02:15.36\00:02:17.83 It is about Nebuchadnezzar, a heathen king, ruling the world 00:02:17.87\00:02:21.67 and turns his heart fully to God. 00:02:21.70\00:02:24.04 Through the witness of Babylon in the experiences of these 00:02:24.07\00:02:26.88 visions and dreams that we are going to be talking about. 00:02:26.91\00:02:29.28 The bottom line of what we are going to realize friends, 00:02:29.31\00:02:31.85 is that the book of Daniel is not so much about prophecy, 00:02:31.88\00:02:35.08 as it is about relationships. 00:02:35.12\00:02:36.99 In fact, prophecy in Daniel is not as much sensational 00:02:37.02\00:02:41.09 as it is relational. 00:02:41.12\00:02:42.72 The whole book of Daniel in its 00:02:42.76\00:02:44.66 prophetic outline is directing us to a relationship with God. 00:02:44.69\00:02:49.30 The name Daniel, the author of the book, means God will judge, 00:02:49.33\00:02:55.44 or God will vindicate. 00:02:55.47\00:02:57.04 We find that throughout the book of Daniel that God is in this 00:02:57.07\00:03:00.21 process of leading Daniel and 00:03:00.24\00:03:02.41 others through providential 00:03:02.44\00:03:04.71 experiences that pan out in 00:03:04.75\00:03:06.92 judgment, that pan out over and over again. 00:03:06.95\00:03:10.19 Daniel for example, being judged righteous and vindicated through 00:03:10.22\00:03:14.19 experiences he has with the other wise men of Babylon who 00:03:14.22\00:03:19.36 are of Babylon, where as he is a captive 00:03:19.39\00:03:22.06 in this foreign country. 00:03:22.10\00:03:23.97 Then we have prophecies, in the book of Daniel, that highlight 00:03:24.00\00:03:28.64 and emphasize judgment and point foreword to the end of time 00:03:28.67\00:03:32.37 when God's people will be vindicated before their enemies. 00:03:32.41\00:03:36.41 The enemies of God's people will be judged as well. 00:03:36.44\00:03:40.68 Absolutely, in fact that is the theme that runs all through 00:03:40.72\00:03:42.68 the book of Daniel in fact it even begins the book of Daniel. 00:03:42.72\00:03:46.59 What you have at the very beginning of the book of Daniel 00:03:46.62\00:03:49.29 you a judgment that comes to God's people. 00:03:49.32\00:03:51.79 In Daniel chapter 1, let's open our Bibles there. 00:03:51.83\00:03:54.86 We would like to invite you to join us, if you have a Bible 00:03:54.93\00:03:57.50 open it up and we will begin right here in Daniel 1:1. 00:03:57.53\00:04:02.50 "In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah 00:04:02.54\00:04:05.94 came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem 00:04:05.97\00:04:08.81 and he besieged it and the Lord" verse two says, 00:04:08.84\00:04:11.85 and the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah, into his hand 00:04:11.88\00:04:16.89 with part of the vessels of the house of God: 00:04:16.92\00:04:19.12 which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of 00:04:19.15\00:04:22.16 his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure 00:04:22.19\00:04:25.09 house of his god. " 00:04:25.13\00:04:26.46 So right here Ty, we have a judgment of sorts. 00:04:26.49\00:04:29.10 We have the Lord making a decision, a judgment about His 00:04:29.13\00:04:31.93 people and there are reasons for this. 00:04:31.97\00:04:34.07 He has decided to allow His people to go captive 00:04:34.10\00:04:37.21 into Babylon. 00:04:37.24\00:04:38.57 The key word here is allow. 00:04:38.61\00:04:40.01 The language here is very interesting. 00:04:40.04\00:04:42.44 It says the Lord gave Jehoiakim into his hands, that is into 00:04:42.48\00:04:48.22 Nebuchadnezzar's hands. 00:04:48.25\00:04:49.58 So God is operating here from His vantage point of Divine 00:04:49.62\00:04:52.62 wisdom, He is looking down upon the situation of His people. 00:04:52.65\00:04:56.06 He sees their whole history. 00:04:56.09\00:04:57.43 He sees exactly what is necessary in order to arrest 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.83 their attention in order to lead them, guide them back to Him 00:05:01.86\00:05:05.73 to repentance to come back to the Lord. 00:05:05.77\00:05:08.64 Is God's decision, His discernment, what is best at 00:05:08.67\00:05:13.14 this point is to give His people over into the hands of 00:05:13.17\00:05:18.08 their enemies, sometimes we refer to this as 00:05:18.11\00:05:20.92 Divine Providence. 00:05:20.95\00:05:22.98 Even though it is happening here on a massive scale with a whole 00:05:23.02\00:05:25.29 nation that is given over, it happens on a, guess we may 00:05:25.32\00:05:29.39 call it, a micro level in our lives. 00:05:29.42\00:05:31.59 That is where we want to be. Yes! 00:05:31.63\00:05:32.96 God looks at us, He sees exactly what is going on, 00:05:32.99\00:05:35.90 He sees the pattern of the decisions we are making. 00:05:35.93\00:05:38.63 God makes judgments, He makes decisions as to what would be 00:05:38.67\00:05:43.14 best for us as individuals and those whose lives intersect with 00:05:43.17\00:05:47.78 and God allows certain things to take place that 00:05:47.81\00:05:51.48 are for our good. 00:05:51.51\00:05:52.95 I really like that phrase, that last phrase you used there Ty, 00:05:52.98\00:05:55.98 if we go back in the Bible and you have a number of prophets 00:05:56.02\00:05:59.45 that predicted this captivity. 00:05:59.49\00:06:01.32 They predicted this outcome because Israel and Judah 00:06:01.36\00:06:05.19 God's people, were actually rebelling against God. 00:06:05.23\00:06:08.60 They were not really carrying out His will and God's will in 00:06:08.63\00:06:12.23 this context was not only that they would be blessed, 00:06:12.27\00:06:14.97 and a special people, and follow the light that He had given them 00:06:15.00\00:06:18.47 but they would also shower these blessings upon their neighbors. 00:06:18.51\00:06:21.61 And out to the rest of the world 00:06:21.64\00:06:23.24 They were keeping them to themselves and then they were 00:06:23.28\00:06:26.11 actually turning away from the light and the blessings that 00:06:26.15\00:06:29.02 God had for them and they were becoming worse than the heathen 00:06:29.05\00:06:31.49 around them. 00:06:31.55\00:06:32.89 So what was God going to do? He was going to allow them 00:06:32.92\00:06:35.32 to go captive, why? 00:06:35.36\00:06:36.99 Well in Jeremiah 24 God is here predicting the captivity. 00:06:37.03\00:06:42.06 Isaiah was a predictor of this captivity. 00:06:42.10\00:06:44.13 Jeremiah lived through the time of this captivity. 00:06:44.17\00:06:47.24 In Chapter 24:5 God speaking of this captivity in the figure 00:06:47.27\00:06:54.21 of figs, He says, "for thus saith the Lord God of Israel 00:06:54.24\00:06:59.55 like these good figs so will I acknowledge them that are 00:06:59.58\00:07:04.62 carried away captive of Judah, whom I sent out of this place 00:07:04.65\00:07:09.59 into the lead of the Chaldeans for their good. " 00:07:09.62\00:07:12.36 For their good? For their good. 00:07:12.39\00:07:13.76 For their good, here's the thing when God in His Providence 00:07:13.80\00:07:16.93 orchestrates what is for a good, what is best, by giving us over 00:07:16.97\00:07:22.84 to our decisions that we are making the whole time we need to 00:07:22.87\00:07:27.61 understand God's attitude, His heart, His posture towards us is 00:07:27.64\00:07:32.35 not merely to lash out and somehow make us suffer. 00:07:32.38\00:07:37.75 It wasn't His will that His people would suffer at all. 00:07:37.79\00:07:40.32 It's not His will that we would suffer at all. 00:07:40.36\00:07:42.09 but God knows that suffering is very educational in some times 00:07:42.12\00:07:46.26 are decisions are moving in a direction where the only way God 00:07:46.29\00:07:50.23 can possibly get our attention so that things to work out for 00:07:50.27\00:07:54.84 our own good is to let us eat, or to experience, or somehow 00:07:54.87\00:07:59.57 go through the very things that we ourselves are tending toward 00:07:59.64\00:08:04.38 by our decisions. 00:08:04.41\00:08:05.75 I love Jeremiah 12:7 James, it goes very well with what you 00:08:05.78\00:08:10.79 just quoted bear from Isaiah. 00:08:10.82\00:08:12.39 in Jeremiah 12:7 when God has given His people over into 00:08:12.45\00:08:16.59 captivity, He voices His heart toward them and uses beautiful 00:08:16.62\00:08:22.56 language to describe how He feels about these very 00:08:22.60\00:08:26.00 people who are rebelling against Him that are going 00:08:26.03\00:08:30.04 into captivity, He says in Jeremiah 12:7, "I have 00:08:30.07\00:08:34.04 forsaken my house," God says. 00:08:34.08\00:08:35.98 "I have left my heritage. " Now watch this He says, 00:08:36.01\00:08:38.61 "I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand 00:08:38.65\00:08:44.15 of her enemies. " 00:08:44.19\00:08:45.75 This is so precious because even though they are in rebellion 00:08:45.82\00:08:48.42 God describes His people, His rebellious people, 00:08:48.46\00:08:52.89 the dearly beloved of My soul. 00:08:52.93\00:08:55.93 That is God's attitude towards us even when His judgments 00:08:55.96\00:08:59.77 are adverse judgments that bring us pain. 00:08:59.80\00:09:02.70 So what we see here in these two verses, is a loving God 00:09:02.74\00:09:06.51 A loving Father who is doing what is the best for us given 00:09:06.54\00:09:10.28 our choices or our situation. 00:09:10.31\00:09:12.48 Now the reason why this is so important I think in what you 00:09:12.51\00:09:16.42 are trying to say Ty is that this National giving over, 00:09:16.45\00:09:20.29 this National judgment happens to us so often on an individual 00:09:20.32\00:09:25.13 basis, so individually we find trials in our lives, we find 00:09:25.16\00:09:29.86 difficulties, we find circumstances that do not seem 00:09:29.90\00:09:34.24 good to us and we tend to question God, especially if we 00:09:34.27\00:09:38.57 are believers. 00:09:38.61\00:09:39.94 We tend to wonder why did God let this happen? 00:09:39.97\00:09:41.54 Even if we are unbelievers we question why is God allowing 00:09:41.58\00:09:44.51 this to happen? 00:09:44.55\00:09:45.88 We do not recognize in that, the hand of God. 00:09:45.91\00:09:49.05 He is working for our good and we are His dearly beloved. 00:09:49.08\00:09:51.72 When I say dearly beloved, when you say dearly beloved, friends 00:09:51.75\00:09:54.56 when we say dearly beloved, we are not talking about believers. 00:09:54.59\00:09:57.33 We are talking about the principle God so loved the world 00:09:57.36\00:10:00.80 that He gave His only begotten Son, we are God's dearly beloved 00:10:00.83\00:10:04.07 The whole world is God's dearly beloved and yet it suffers. 00:10:04.13\00:10:07.90 It has these trials, it has 00:10:07.97\00:10:09.30 these terrible pains that it is 00:10:09.34\00:10:10.67 going through and if you would 00:10:10.71\00:10:12.04 have asked Daniel, Daniel 00:10:12.07\00:10:13.41 what do you think of God's plan? 00:10:13.44\00:10:14.98 Daniel was just a young man, He was just a teenager, 15, 16, 00:10:15.01\00:10:18.18 years of age. 00:10:18.21\00:10:19.55 What do you think of God's plan? 00:10:19.58\00:10:20.92 God has decided that you will be taken from your home land, 00:10:20.95\00:10:25.05 you will be made a eunuch, and that is what Isaiah 31says, 00:10:25.09\00:10:29.39 The princes would be made Eunuchs, you would be made a 00:10:29.42\00:10:32.59 Eunuch in the kingdom of Babylon, you would serve a 00:10:32.63\00:10:35.73 heathen kind for the rest of your life. 00:10:35.76\00:10:37.10 You will be severed from your family and you will never have 00:10:37.13\00:10:39.27 a family, you will never have kids or grandkids. 00:10:39.30\00:10:41.17 Ever, Daniel what do you think of that plan? What do you think 00:10:41.24\00:10:44.07 of that plan Daniel, Huh, Huh? 00:10:44.11\00:10:47.01 Daniel would probably go that doesn't sound like such a great 00:10:47.54\00:10:50.18 plan, but if you were to take Daniel all the way through his 00:10:50.21\00:10:53.35 experience to the very end of his life, at the very end of his 00:10:53.38\00:10:56.45 life you would say Daniel what do you think of your life 00:10:56.48\00:10:58.35 looking back? Looking back what do you think? 00:10:58.39\00:11:00.76 Ah, I wouldn't have it any other way. 00:11:00.79\00:11:02.12 I've read where an author says 00:11:02.16\00:11:05.26 that if we were in eternity 00:11:05.29\00:11:08.60 future, to look back over the 00:11:08.63\00:11:10.83 entire history of our lives, 00:11:10.87\00:11:12.70 each of us as individuals, 00:11:12.73\00:11:14.50 we will come to the conclusion that we would not chose to be 00:11:14.54\00:11:18.71 led any other way than we were lead. 00:11:18.74\00:11:23.31 God is incredibly, with infinite wisdom, orchestrating exactly 00:11:23.35\00:11:30.62 what is best for us in every given situation. 00:11:30.65\00:11:34.82 In this sense James, He looks upon us and He would rather that 00:11:34.86\00:11:38.59 we would make other choices that what we are making 00:11:38.63\00:11:42.13 often times, but God factors in our free will, and factoring in 00:11:42.16\00:11:46.43 our free will and the choices we are making, God often times 00:11:46.47\00:11:51.74 reluctantly has to give us over to things He would rather not 00:11:51.77\00:11:56.98 give us over too. 00:11:57.01\00:11:58.35 Things He would rather we not experience. 00:11:58.38\00:12:00.15 God is not in favor of slavery. 00:12:00.22\00:12:01.65 Daniel was made a slave in a foreign land. 00:12:01.68\00:12:04.05 God is anti-slavery. 00:12:04.09\00:12:05.72 He did not want Daniel to suffer this fate, but He knew from His 00:12:05.75\00:12:11.49 vantage point that Divine wisdom he knew that ultimately a plan 00:12:11.56\00:12:17.23 was working out, that was for their best good involved God 00:12:17.27\00:12:21.60 releasing them to the direction of their choices. 00:12:21.64\00:12:25.44 Yes and we see this as parents, as grandparents, we see choices 00:12:25.47\00:12:29.98 that our children and grandchildren make and we are 00:12:30.01\00:12:34.82 helpless, in a sense, held back by their freedom of choice even 00:12:34.85\00:12:37.65 though we have some authority over them and power over them, 00:12:37.69\00:12:41.19 some influence over them, but at the same time we have to 00:12:41.22\00:12:44.66 allow them to make certain choices. 00:12:44.69\00:12:46.03 I like what you said about that author, 00:12:46.06\00:12:47.40 I was thinking about Paul. 00:12:47.40\00:12:48.73 When you said in Romans 8:18, "For I reckon that the suffering 00:12:48.76\00:12:52.43 of this present time are not worthy to be compared. " 00:12:52.47\00:12:55.04 "The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be 00:12:55.07\00:12:57.67 compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us. " 00:12:57.71\00:13:00.34 What is God's purpose in allowing this? 00:13:00.38\00:13:02.84 It is to get us to heaven, it is to get us saved. 00:13:02.88\00:13:05.41 It is to, and I want to say more than just to heaven saved, it is 00:13:05.48\00:13:08.98 to save us from our bad choices to save us from the ultimate 00:13:09.02\00:13:12.85 result of sin. 00:13:12.89\00:13:14.22 It is precisely because God 00:13:14.26\00:13:16.59 loves us and regards as His 00:13:16.62\00:13:19.09 dearly beloved, that He finds 00:13:19.16\00:13:21.23 it necessary, sometimes, to 00:13:21.26\00:13:23.50 release us to our choices so 00:13:23.53\00:13:25.70 that we touch that which is hot we will be inclined to pull back 00:13:25.73\00:13:31.11 from it and we will not suffer greater loss, He actually allows 00:13:31.14\00:13:35.84 us to make smaller mistakes in order to prevent us from 00:13:35.88\00:13:39.88 making colossal mistakes which would work our ruin. 00:13:39.91\00:13:43.85 This is one of the added aspects of what God is doing. 00:13:43.89\00:13:47.62 When we go through these trials 00:13:47.69\00:13:49.29 they draw us to God. 00:13:49.32\00:13:51.83 They draws us to reach out to 00:13:51.86\00:13:53.43 Him in ways perhaps they have 00:13:53.46\00:13:55.00 never done before. 00:13:55.03\00:13:56.36 Some might say well they drive me away, well that is the choice 00:13:56.40\00:13:59.63 we can make and God is seeking to help us 00:13:59.67\00:14:02.64 to realize our need of Him and be drawn to Him. 00:14:02.67\00:14:06.17 To reach out to Him and connect in ways that we haven't before. 00:14:06.21\00:14:10.08 That is what we are going to find as we continue to study 00:14:10.11\00:14:12.51 this powerful book of Daniel. 00:14:12.55\00:14:14.78 Don't go away, we will be right back! 00:14:14.82\00:14:16.35
