Praise God. 00:00:39.43\00:00:41.10 We've been doing all these programs. 00:00:41.14\00:00:42.80 I'm learning so much. 00:00:42.84\00:00:44.17 Our viewers, I know are learning so much. 00:00:44.24\00:00:46.44 And today, we have a really special topic. 00:00:46.47\00:00:49.44 Very special topic, it's all about budgeting. 00:00:49.48\00:00:51.55 Okay. 00:00:51.58\00:00:52.91 Budgeting, make sure 00:00:52.95\00:00:54.28 it's the driver of a financial plan. 00:00:54.32\00:00:56.18 I mean, outside of crisis which you base 00:00:56.22\00:00:59.32 your financial strategy on because without a budget, 00:00:59.35\00:01:02.39 you don't know how much you can put to tithe, 00:01:02.42\00:01:05.36 you don't know what you can put into your new business 00:01:05.39\00:01:08.00 or your home, you don't know 00:01:08.03\00:01:09.36 how much you can put into your college savings plan, 00:01:09.40\00:01:10.93 how much you can put into the stocks or bonds 00:01:10.97\00:01:12.83 or real estate, all of that. 00:01:12.87\00:01:14.47 You don't know anything unless you know 00:01:14.50\00:01:16.44 exactly what you're earning and how much you're spending. 00:01:16.47\00:01:19.11 So all of these things are tied together with budget. 00:01:19.14\00:01:21.71 We'll have a very thorough discussion today 00:01:21.74\00:01:23.51 about budgeting. 00:01:23.55\00:01:24.88 Oh, that's great. 00:01:24.91\00:01:26.25 I need to know about it because, you know, 00:01:26.28\00:01:27.62 a lot of times you think, 00:01:27.65\00:01:28.98 "Oh, man, I need to make out a budget." 00:01:29.02\00:01:31.79 And when you do, you just see where your money is going. 00:01:31.82\00:01:35.32 You actually take control of your money 00:01:35.36\00:01:38.33 instead of your money controlling you. 00:01:38.36\00:01:39.76 And nowadays, budgeting is even easier 00:01:39.79\00:01:41.73 because of all the technology. 00:01:41.76\00:01:43.16 They have phone applications, they have different software 00:01:43.20\00:01:46.90 you can use on your computers. 00:01:46.97\00:01:49.07 So all of these things, it's easier now. 00:01:49.10\00:01:50.87 And you can... there's banking online. 00:01:50.91\00:01:53.07 So essentially now you're knowing exactly 00:01:53.11\00:01:54.81 what moneys are coming in and out by looking online. 00:01:54.84\00:01:57.58 So it's just an easier way to budget so we can fulfill 00:01:57.61\00:02:00.62 what God actually wants us to do. 00:02:00.65\00:02:02.08 That's great. 00:02:02.12\00:02:03.49 And we can go back to the Word to get the principles. 00:02:03.52\00:02:05.92 Exactly. 00:02:05.95\00:02:07.29 You have principles for budgeting 00:02:07.36\00:02:08.69 in the Word, don't we? 00:02:08.72\00:02:10.06 Absolutely. Let's hear it. 00:02:10.09\00:02:11.43 And I have some here, I have some principles. 00:02:11.46\00:02:12.99 The first verse I wanted to check out is Proverbs 3:9. 00:02:13.03\00:02:17.03 And that says, "Honor the Lord with thy substance, 00:02:17.07\00:02:19.87 and with the firstfruits of all thine increase." 00:02:19.90\00:02:22.70 That to me relates to tithing, right. 00:02:22.74\00:02:24.37 You have to give God your firstfruits. 00:02:24.41\00:02:26.37 And you don't know what your firstfruits are 00:02:26.41\00:02:28.58 unless you know what you're making. 00:02:28.61\00:02:30.41 You can't tithe unless you know what you're earning. 00:02:30.45\00:02:32.78 This comes from budgeting. 00:02:32.81\00:02:34.18 And you know, a lot of individuals say, 00:02:34.22\00:02:35.62 "Ryan should you tithe if you're not making 00:02:35.65\00:02:37.59 that much money?" 00:02:37.62\00:02:38.95 I said, "Well, you know what, the less money you make 00:02:38.99\00:02:40.56 the more you need to budget. 00:02:40.62\00:02:41.96 And if you're actually tithing you can actually... 00:02:41.99\00:02:43.39 It helps you to allocate and figure out exactly 00:02:43.43\00:02:45.63 how much money you have coming in." 00:02:45.66\00:02:47.46 This is the way we honor God. 00:02:47.50\00:02:48.80 This is the way we praise Him 00:02:48.83\00:02:50.53 and sow seeds into our ministries 00:02:50.60\00:02:52.73 that's doing so much for us 00:02:52.77\00:02:54.10 for all the things that He's done for us. 00:02:54.17\00:02:56.00 And a budget helps us do that. 00:02:56.04\00:02:59.44 So the second verse I have is 1 Corinthians 4:2, right? 00:02:59.47\00:03:03.48 And that says, "Moreover, it is required of stewards 00:03:03.55\00:03:06.61 that they be found trustworthy." 00:03:06.65\00:03:09.35 So again, these are not our resources. 00:03:09.38\00:03:12.02 Every dollar you have 00:03:12.05\00:03:13.39 and everything we own belongs to God. 00:03:13.46\00:03:16.36 And God is just allowing us to just hold on to them 00:03:16.39\00:03:19.79 and be a steward over them. 00:03:19.83\00:03:21.60 So a budget is just one more thing 00:03:21.63\00:03:23.83 that we can do to make sure 00:03:23.87\00:03:25.20 that we're showing God that we are trustworthy. 00:03:25.23\00:03:27.30 We can be trustworthy of exactly what He's given us. 00:03:27.34\00:03:30.27 You know, that's a really good point, Ryan, 00:03:30.31\00:03:32.24 because being a steward is being a manager. 00:03:32.27\00:03:34.24 Yes. And if God... 00:03:34.28\00:03:37.45 If we're going to... 00:03:37.51\00:03:38.85 If we want God to give us big things, 00:03:38.88\00:03:40.88 how can God trust us with the big things 00:03:40.92\00:03:43.08 if He can't trust us with little things? 00:03:43.12\00:03:45.25 So we need to have a budget so we can see... 00:03:45.29\00:03:47.82 See, I'm feeling convicted now. 00:03:47.86\00:03:49.66 I'm going to go home and make a budget. 00:03:49.69\00:03:51.99 And in one website, we can do it. 00:03:52.03\00:03:54.23 I'll get into it later, its' mint.com 00:03:54.30\00:03:56.26 as I always advocate that site. 00:03:56.30\00:03:57.80 You can go to the site, it's free. 00:03:57.83\00:04:00.27 And it helps you just to really put a lot of your expenses down 00:04:00.34\00:04:03.04 on a technology. 00:04:03.07\00:04:04.41 So it's just a great tool to use. 00:04:04.44\00:04:06.34 Yeah, that's good. 00:04:06.37\00:04:07.71 So another scripture I have is 2 Corinthians 9:6. 00:04:07.74\00:04:11.28 It says, "The point is this, whoever sows sparingly 00:04:11.31\00:04:14.75 will also reaps sparingly, and who ever sows bountifully 00:04:14.78\00:04:18.12 will also reap bountifully." 00:04:18.15\00:04:20.46 So I mean, you reap what you sow. 00:04:20.49\00:04:21.89 Okay. 00:04:21.92\00:04:23.26 But again, in order for us to give, 00:04:23.29\00:04:24.89 in order for us to make sure that we are giving, 00:04:24.93\00:04:27.03 we have to know exactly how much we're making. 00:04:27.10\00:04:29.83 We have to know much can we afford to sow, right? 00:04:29.86\00:04:33.40 What is 10%? 00:04:33.44\00:04:35.54 How much can we give and gift to our favorite ministry. 00:04:35.57\00:04:38.71 You know, when they donated to Dare to Dream. 00:04:38.74\00:04:41.41 You know, they have to go in their budget. 00:04:41.44\00:04:43.11 You should have 00:04:43.14\00:04:44.48 a philanthropic part of your budget. 00:04:44.51\00:04:46.11 So when they donate to Dare to Dream 00:04:46.15\00:04:47.72 and other good ministries doing good work, 00:04:47.75\00:04:49.68 they know exactly how much is coming out. 00:04:49.72\00:04:51.99 And maybe you don't automatically withdraw, 00:04:52.02\00:04:54.22 they should be able to budget those things. 00:04:54.26\00:04:55.96 Right. 00:04:55.99\00:04:57.33 And then finally one more which is my favorite verse 00:04:57.39\00:04:59.29 on how budgeting really comes together 00:04:59.33\00:05:01.70 is Proverbs 6:6 through 8 that says, 00:05:01.73\00:05:05.03 "Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, 00:05:05.07\00:05:07.64 and be wise. 00:05:07.67\00:05:09.00 Without having any chief officer or ruler, 00:05:09.04\00:05:11.77 she prepares her bread in the summer 00:05:11.81\00:05:14.41 and gathers her food in harvest." 00:05:14.44\00:05:17.05 So the ant is budgeting, right? 00:05:17.08\00:05:20.12 The ant is budgeting 00:05:20.15\00:05:21.48 and the ant knows how to budget. 00:05:21.52\00:05:22.85 They go and they rob your picnic 00:05:22.88\00:05:24.99 and all that stuff that they bring in from the picnic, 00:05:25.02\00:05:27.09 they budget and they prepare for the harvest, right? 00:05:27.16\00:05:31.03 I mean, so if the ant can do it, we can do it too. 00:05:31.06\00:05:34.56 And so overall, I think it's just 00:05:34.60\00:05:36.97 there's a simple process I really just wanted 00:05:37.03\00:05:39.30 to get into to talk about budgeting in this three steps 00:05:39.33\00:05:43.27 of how to go about budgeting, right? 00:05:43.30\00:05:45.34 Okay, good. 00:05:45.37\00:05:46.74 The first step to budget is to put together 00:05:46.78\00:05:50.15 an estimated budget. 00:05:50.21\00:05:51.98 You know, many individuals, they will start out 00:05:52.01\00:05:54.35 and they figure out, okay, 00:05:54.38\00:05:55.72 how much do you think you're spending. 00:05:55.75\00:05:57.45 And some people just really don't know. 00:05:57.49\00:05:59.45 You might have an indication by looking at your pay slip 00:05:59.49\00:06:01.79 of what your revenue coming in, 00:06:01.82\00:06:03.39 but do you have any other revenue sources coming in? 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.76 Sometimes business owners have 00:06:05.79\00:06:07.13 multiple revenue streams coming in. 00:06:07.13\00:06:09.26 Sometimes individuals who are freelancers 00:06:09.30\00:06:11.07 have multiple sources of revenue coming in. 00:06:11.10\00:06:13.10 So they don't know exactly how much money coming in. 00:06:13.13\00:06:14.97 Or if you're retired, you have pensions 00:06:15.00\00:06:16.71 and social security and all that stuff. 00:06:16.74\00:06:18.54 Exactly. 00:06:18.57\00:06:19.91 And expenses, we really have a hard time 00:06:19.94\00:06:23.45 trying to figure out what expenses are coming in. 00:06:23.48\00:06:25.58 Some expenses are fixed, some expenses are variable. 00:06:25.61\00:06:28.75 I mean, we might know what is your phone bill 00:06:28.78\00:06:31.49 every single month, do we have an indication, 00:06:31.52\00:06:33.39 do we have any overcharges, do we have any expenses from, 00:06:33.46\00:06:37.43 you know, cable bills, and light bills, 00:06:37.46\00:06:39.59 and electric bills, and gas bills, 00:06:39.63\00:06:41.23 all these things vary from time to time. 00:06:41.26\00:06:43.63 How much money are you paying back 00:06:43.67\00:06:45.77 on your student loans or anything. 00:06:45.80\00:06:47.67 All those things, we have to put down on paper 00:06:47.70\00:06:49.60 to figure out exactly what is, but we have to estimate those. 00:06:49.64\00:06:52.77 So when you're budgeting, you then will put down 00:06:52.81\00:06:56.28 the approximate amount as opposed to an exact figure 00:06:56.31\00:07:01.12 because it might vary? 00:07:01.15\00:07:02.65 Well, the first part is the estimated budget, so. 00:07:02.68\00:07:05.65 Right. 00:07:05.69\00:07:07.02 You know, usually, let's just say it's on a Monday 00:07:07.09\00:07:09.26 and you're putting together your budget. 00:07:09.29\00:07:11.13 You don't know, you know, you might have forgotten, 00:07:11.16\00:07:13.29 you don't necessarily know but this is a process. 00:07:13.33\00:07:15.43 So you estimate, it's a guesstimate. 00:07:15.46\00:07:18.17 This is how much I'm thinking I'm spending, 00:07:18.20\00:07:20.44 but then you get it exact by doing that 30-day 00:07:20.47\00:07:23.74 spending diary over the next 30 days. 00:07:23.81\00:07:26.07 So over the next 30 days, you really just go through... 00:07:26.11\00:07:28.44 If you throw a penny in a well, you write that down 00:07:28.48\00:07:31.01 and you put it down in your budget. 00:07:31.05\00:07:32.58 And you really just get exactly 00:07:32.61\00:07:34.25 how much came out of your pocket. 00:07:34.32\00:07:35.85 Now if it's Christmas time, a birthday season, 00:07:35.88\00:07:39.82 you might not want to do 00:07:39.85\00:07:41.19 your 30-day spending diary then 00:07:41.22\00:07:42.56 because that probably doesn't indicate a good amount 00:07:42.59\00:07:46.09 of how much you'll be spending on a regular basis. 00:07:46.13\00:07:49.60 You know, so maybe you might want to do it 30 days 00:07:49.63\00:07:51.97 but then make for the next month 00:07:52.00\00:07:53.34 to start that 30 days but regardless 00:07:53.40\00:07:55.30 when you dealt that 30 days, then you do it actual budget. 00:07:55.34\00:07:59.37 How much did you spend on your gas bill, 00:07:59.41\00:08:02.04 your electric bill, your heat, all those types of things. 00:08:02.08\00:08:05.81 You write that down in a budget 00:08:05.85\00:08:07.85 and then you try to stick to it. 00:08:07.88\00:08:09.25 I mean again, using mint.com or different websites, 00:08:09.28\00:08:12.12 they have different software. 00:08:12.15\00:08:13.59 Free software you can use over the internet 00:08:13.62\00:08:16.02 that you can just insert all your expenditures 00:08:16.06\00:08:18.36 and your revenue on a regular basis 00:08:18.39\00:08:20.43 and then you try to follow those things. 00:08:20.46\00:08:21.86 Okay. 00:08:21.90\00:08:23.23 So now once we've done that, I want to start to talk about 00:08:23.26\00:08:26.87 some ways that we can, that we might bust our budget, 00:08:26.94\00:08:30.31 okay, because it's a lot of things out there 00:08:30.34\00:08:33.38 that bust our budget and makes us spend money 00:08:33.41\00:08:36.75 in irresponsible way. 00:08:36.78\00:08:39.25 So these are budget busters? Budget buster, yes. Okay. 00:08:39.28\00:08:43.32 And we'll talk about some sales strategies first. 00:08:43.39\00:08:45.62 So now, you ever saw the chaos that exists on Black Friday? 00:08:45.65\00:08:51.63 Oh, yeah. 00:08:51.66\00:08:52.99 When every Black Friday, people are, you know, 00:08:53.03\00:08:56.06 literally people have died on Black Friday sales. 00:08:56.10\00:09:00.80 Well, this is a sale strategy. 00:09:00.87\00:09:02.34 And the sales individuals, the retailers, 00:09:02.37\00:09:07.21 they want this type of excitement. 00:09:07.24\00:09:09.51 They want individuals waiting out at three, four, 00:09:09.54\00:09:12.91 five in the morning waiting on that next sale. 00:09:12.95\00:09:15.32 And the bottom line is that, you know, 00:09:15.35\00:09:17.22 most Black Friday sales have occurred at least once 00:09:17.25\00:09:20.79 during the duration of the year. 00:09:20.82\00:09:23.06 But this is on Black Friday. 00:09:23.09\00:09:24.66 So it has to be different than the other days of the year. 00:09:24.69\00:09:27.76 So those prices have happened at other times. 00:09:27.76\00:09:32.40 Yes. 00:09:32.43\00:09:33.77 But they pump up Black Friday. 00:09:33.84\00:09:35.77 This is the day because you'll never see 00:09:35.80\00:09:38.01 another sale for the rest of your life. 00:09:38.04\00:09:40.51 And this is the last day you're going to see this sale. 00:09:40.58\00:09:42.94 So they'll have these sales on Black Friday 00:09:42.98\00:09:45.18 to get that excitement. 00:09:45.21\00:09:46.55 And that excitement brings attention. 00:09:46.58\00:09:48.15 And the goal of any marketer is to get attention. 00:09:48.18\00:09:50.49 So we have to start looking into the psychology of how 00:09:50.52\00:09:52.92 they're getting into our pockets, right? 00:09:52.95\00:09:54.79 So the Black Friday sale is just one of those things 00:09:54.82\00:09:57.53 when you see different shoe lines, 00:09:57.56\00:09:59.49 individuals waiting in lines for various shoes. 00:09:59.53\00:10:02.03 That's a sales strategy. 00:10:02.06\00:10:03.73 And what they'll do is they'll actually, 00:10:03.77\00:10:05.53 when people wait in line for, let's say Nike shoes, 00:10:05.57\00:10:08.37 they'll wait in line and when they get... 00:10:08.40\00:10:10.97 They might release them on, I think on a Monday or Tuesday 00:10:11.01\00:10:13.78 or whatever popular day of the week it is that 00:10:13.84\00:10:15.71 they normally release the new shoes, 00:10:15.74\00:10:18.38 when they have this long line, 00:10:18.41\00:10:20.12 they purposely don't open the door. 00:10:20.18\00:10:22.12 When they get there, they'll decrease 00:10:22.15\00:10:23.85 the amount of supply in actual shoes. 00:10:23.89\00:10:27.56 You will think... 00:10:27.62\00:10:29.09 Logic would say, well, not marketing logic 00:10:29.12\00:10:31.33 or revenue logic, but you say they should have more shoes 00:10:31.36\00:10:34.56 because they should have more available. 00:10:34.56\00:10:36.16 No, they want to make sure that there is a huge demand 00:10:36.20\00:10:40.90 for what they are offering. 00:10:40.94\00:10:42.60 So when you get to the front of the line, 00:10:42.64\00:10:44.37 and you have a size 10. 00:10:44.41\00:10:45.74 And you say, you know, 00:10:45.77\00:10:47.11 let me have a size 10 or 11 shoe, 00:10:47.14\00:10:49.14 and they're sold out, a minute, 00:10:49.18\00:10:51.25 that psychology says that I'm going to be 00:10:51.28\00:10:53.38 the first person in line to come back. 00:10:53.45\00:10:55.98 People actually get mad that they can't spend 00:10:56.02\00:10:58.95 $150, $200 for a pair of shoes. 00:10:58.99\00:11:01.06 They get upset. 00:11:01.09\00:11:02.42 And think about the psychology and it's actually 00:11:02.46\00:11:05.26 a brilliant psychology to get into the minds of individuals. 00:11:05.29\00:11:08.16 People are mad that they can't give you 00:11:08.20\00:11:10.33 $200 of their money. 00:11:10.37\00:11:12.03 I mean, think about that. 00:11:12.07\00:11:13.50 That is just amazing to me. Yes. 00:11:13.54\00:11:16.20 The psychology says the next time they have a sale, 00:11:16.24\00:11:20.18 I'm going to be the first person in line. 00:11:20.24\00:11:22.08 You're going to take my money 00:11:22.11\00:11:23.45 whether you like it or not, right? 00:11:23.51\00:11:25.78 And it's just crazy. Yeah. 00:11:25.81\00:11:27.48 It's about the value that the psychology 00:11:27.52\00:11:30.69 behind putting a certain value on that shoe. 00:11:30.75\00:11:34.82 Exactly. And that's a sales strategy. 00:11:34.86\00:11:36.46 So then you see the lines get longer and longer 00:11:36.49\00:11:39.63 and longer and longer. 00:11:39.66\00:11:41.20 And so the impulse sale strategies, 00:11:41.23\00:11:43.30 it's very easy. 00:11:43.33\00:11:45.17 The sales strategy, individuals will go out 00:11:45.20\00:11:48.10 and they will mark up a sweater or what have you, 00:11:48.14\00:11:52.17 maybe you know, they might be selling $400 00:11:52.21\00:11:54.44 but it's marked up from 10 with which they bought it. 00:11:54.48\00:11:57.58 But there's mark way up to $100 but then they'll say, 00:11:57.61\00:12:00.62 they'll mark it down to $50 and have a 50% of blowout sale. 00:12:00.65\00:12:04.65 Oh my goodness, it's 50% off, I have to go. 00:12:04.69\00:12:07.66 But they're still making 500% profit. 00:12:07.69\00:12:10.26 And this is a simple basic strategy. 00:12:10.33\00:12:12.53 So that's what I call the bogus sales strategy. 00:12:12.56\00:12:15.70 Then they'll have the guilt sales strategy, right? 00:12:15.73\00:12:18.20 The guilt sale strategy is very good where you walk 00:12:18.23\00:12:21.00 into a store and they might, you know, you try on some shoes 00:12:21.04\00:12:25.77 and all of a sudden, you want to try on some more shoes. 00:12:25.81\00:12:28.98 Well, then the person has to go in the back and get you. 00:12:29.01\00:12:31.75 And they come out and they're acting busy, 00:12:31.78\00:12:33.98 and all this stuff. 00:12:34.02\00:12:36.45 And they come out, here's the other shoe. 00:12:36.48\00:12:38.45 Oh, I'm sorry. I'll be right there. 00:12:38.49\00:12:39.82 I'll be right there. Here's your other shoe. 00:12:39.85\00:12:41.69 And all men, heaven forbid that you have to go back 00:12:41.72\00:12:44.49 and have them go back in the back room once more 00:12:44.53\00:12:48.16 because that's just, oh my goodness, 00:12:48.20\00:12:49.63 that's just too much to bear. 00:12:49.66\00:12:51.57 So they go back, and they come out, 00:12:51.60\00:12:53.17 and they're working hard, they're all sweaty. 00:12:53.20\00:12:54.80 And it's, oh my goodness, I had to go way in the back 00:12:54.84\00:12:56.67 and get these shoes. 00:12:56.74\00:12:58.11 And they want you. 00:12:58.14\00:12:59.47 They have salesmen is about have them trial 00:12:59.51\00:13:01.08 as many shoes as possible because they understand 00:13:01.11\00:13:03.68 the more shoes that individuals try on, 00:13:03.75\00:13:05.75 the more they feel guilty 00:13:05.78\00:13:07.12 that they haven't actually bought a pair of shoes. 00:13:07.15\00:13:09.45 So it increases your feeling of obligation. 00:13:09.48\00:13:11.69 Exactly. 00:13:11.72\00:13:13.05 Like I need to buy these shoes 00:13:13.09\00:13:14.42 because I worked the salesperson to death. 00:13:14.46\00:13:16.76 Exactly. 00:20:06.94\00:20:08.27 Whatever your expenses are 00:20:08.30\00:20:09.64 but unless you have a budget, you don't know. 00:20:09.67\00:20:11.51 Right. 00:20:11.54\00:20:12.87 The second step is to take your monthly expenses, 00:20:12.91\00:20:15.88 times about 12, that makes your yearly expenses. 00:20:15.91\00:20:19.85 So now, you know, now obviously if you are 30, 40 years old, 00:20:19.88\00:20:24.99 your expenses are gonna go down slightly. 00:20:25.02\00:20:27.52 So you want to figure out exactly 00:20:27.56\00:20:29.09 what would your monthly expenses be 00:20:29.12\00:20:30.96 during retirement. 00:20:30.99\00:20:32.33 The more you have your monthly expenses, 00:20:32.36\00:20:33.70 obviously the more you're going to have to save. 00:20:33.76\00:20:35.70 So that's more of a, I guess, more of a liberal way 00:20:35.73\00:20:37.73 to calculating your retirement to say, "Hey, I want to retire. 00:20:37.77\00:20:40.47 I want to, probably want to do it up," you know. 00:20:40.50\00:20:42.74 So a lot of times when I was putting together 00:20:42.77\00:20:44.24 financial plans, I would reduce 00:20:44.27\00:20:46.47 their current expenses by maybe 20%. 00:20:46.51\00:20:50.11 But some individuals say, "No, I want 100% 00:20:50.18\00:20:52.18 because I really want to have a full retirement 00:20:52.21\00:20:54.25 or you know what, do it by 30% 00:20:54.28\00:20:56.55 because I'm going to live a whole lot meager 00:20:56.62\00:20:58.55 and I want to save more." 00:20:58.59\00:20:59.92 So it really all depends on your lifestyle if you, 00:21:00.06\00:21:02.16 as we talked about in the other show, 00:21:02.19\00:21:03.53 have written down your goals and what you really want to do. 00:21:03.56\00:21:06.26 So, again, step two, multiply that by 12. 00:21:06.29\00:21:08.86 Now, step three, divide that yearly total 00:21:08.90\00:21:13.23 by a conservative rate of return, okay? 00:23:37.95\00:23:40.28 So now, let's talk about a suit, right. 00:23:40.32\00:23:43.79 Someone might say a designer suit, 00:23:43.85\00:23:46.12 some people might spend as much as $2,500 on a suit. 00:23:46.15\00:23:50.09 Now, do you remember how much Millionaire Next Door said, 00:23:50.13\00:23:53.70 average millionaire spent their entire life, 00:23:53.76\00:23:56.30 the most they've ever spent on a suit, 00:23:56.33\00:23:59.23 you remember how much it was? Yeah, they do, they do. 00:25:30.36\00:25:32.26 And, you know, 00:25:32.29\00:25:33.63 the first millionaire I ever met, 00:25:33.70\00:25:35.40 he was worth about a half a billion. 00:25:35.43\00:25:38.17 And he was dressed like he just rolled out of the bed. 00:25:38.20\00:25:41.34 And I met him, he had island. 00:25:41.37\00:25:44.91 My father's friend said, 00:25:44.94\00:25:46.27 "Ryan, do you know who that is?" 00:25:46.31\00:25:47.64 He said, "Do you see all these 50 foot yachts," 00:25:47.68\00:25:49.01 he said, "He owns all this. 00:25:49.04\00:25:50.41 You see, he owned the dock, he owns all the property 00:25:50.45\00:25:52.98 with the dock, he owns all the stores, 00:25:53.01\00:25:55.22 the fancy stores and all that land, 00:25:55.25\00:25:57.05 all that real estate, he owned all of it." 00:25:57.09\00:25:59.02 And I was only 12 and I said, 00:25:59.05\00:26:00.69 "Well, he's not dressed that nice, 00:26:00.72\00:26:02.42 he can't be worth that much." 00:26:02.46\00:26:03.99 And I didn't know.
