Hello, and welcome to Dollars and Sense. 00:00:27.12\00:00:29.36 I'm your co-host, Yvonne Lewis. 00:00:29.39\00:00:31.49 And our primary host is Ryan Mack, 00:00:31.53\00:00:34.23 our Financial Literacy expert, who has been bringing us 00:00:34.30\00:00:37.63 tremendous information. 00:00:37.67\00:00:39.07 If you haven't been watching this series, 00:00:39.10\00:00:41.30 you've got to start watching it. 00:00:41.34\00:00:43.27 After today you're going to want to see all of the 00:00:43.34\00:00:45.74 episodes in this series. 00:00:45.77\00:00:48.18 Because Ryan has just been bringing... 00:00:48.21\00:00:50.88 blessing us with information. 00:00:50.91\00:00:52.58 So thank you, Ryan, for all this. 00:00:52.61\00:00:54.45 Thank you, too. This has been a great time. 00:00:54.48\00:00:55.88 I've been having such a good time on the show. 00:00:55.92\00:00:58.05 Oh, well, we've been blessed by all the info 00:00:58.09\00:01:00.76 you've been giving us. 00:01:00.79\00:01:02.12 And today we have a Scripture we're going to open with, 00:01:02.16\00:01:05.83 but what are we going to talk about today? 00:01:05.86\00:01:07.30 Well, today we're going to do a roll reversal today. Oh! 00:01:07.30\00:01:10.33 And because I need some... one of the... 00:01:10.37\00:01:14.77 When there is no health there is no wealth. 00:01:14.80\00:01:17.74 So we have to understand that all of the things we put in our 00:01:17.77\00:01:21.78 bodies, and this is something that I need to pay attention to 00:01:21.81\00:01:24.41 as well, because I have not been walking the most 00:01:24.45\00:01:27.28 clean life healthy. 00:01:27.32\00:01:28.65 And I need to get back in shape. 00:01:28.68\00:01:30.29 I need to get... And I know a lot of viewers out there 00:01:30.35\00:01:32.15 need to get in shape. 00:01:32.19\00:01:33.52 Because a lot of discussions about health care reform is 00:01:33.56\00:01:36.56 going on right now. 00:01:36.59\00:01:37.93 And, you know, are they going to do something 00:01:37.96\00:01:39.79 with Affordable Care Act? 00:01:39.83\00:01:41.13 Are they going to keep it? get away with it? 00:01:41.16\00:01:42.50 Well, you know what? 00:01:42.53\00:01:43.90 Let's let them do what they need to do in Washington, 00:01:43.93\00:01:45.73 but let's do what we can do at home. Right. 00:01:45.77\00:01:47.90 We have, we can do our own health care reform by just 00:01:47.94\00:01:50.44 eating healthy foods. 00:01:50.47\00:01:51.94 And I need to get back on track. 00:01:51.97\00:01:53.61 I need to get on track with that. 00:01:53.64\00:01:54.98 And I know you're a health care expert. 00:01:55.01\00:01:56.38 So, and it talks about it in the Scripture. 00:01:56.41\00:01:59.71 And it says here in 1 Corinthians 6:19, 00:01:59.75\00:02:03.02 And that really resonates with me, 00:02:12.33\00:02:14.83 because we only get one body. 00:02:14.86\00:02:16.63 That's right. You know, I'm 39 years old. 00:02:16.67\00:02:19.83 And, you know, I don't lose weight as fast 00:02:19.87\00:02:23.07 as I once did before. 00:02:23.10\00:02:24.44 I'm back in the gym and I'm finding that, 00:02:24.47\00:02:25.87 this hidden basketball that's not in my stomach 00:02:25.91\00:02:29.01 down here is not going away as fast as I would like it. 00:02:29.04\00:02:32.25 And I'm like, Wow! What, you know, How do I get rid of this? 00:02:32.28\00:02:35.85 And somebody said, Well, Ryan, you have to change your diet, 00:02:35.88\00:02:38.85 you know? So you have to change what you're eating. 00:02:38.89\00:02:41.06 I have some statistics here that talks about almost over 15% 00:02:41.09\00:02:47.66 of our communities have Diabetes. 00:02:47.66\00:02:50.70 We have, in the African American community, we have 50% obesity. 00:02:50.73\00:02:55.67 Nearly... 50%? 50% yeah. 00:02:55.70\00:02:59.31 51% obesity in the African American communities. 00:02:59.34\00:03:02.08 In 200930% of African Americans are more likely to die from 00:03:02.11\00:03:06.75 heart disease as compared to non-Hispanics, white males, 00:03:06.82\00:03:10.59 and we have nearly twice the risk of 00:03:10.62\00:03:12.75 prostate cancer than white males. 00:03:12.79\00:03:14.59 So I know that we have to, as an African American male 00:03:14.62\00:03:18.06 I need to pay, I need to start paying attention to this stuff. 00:03:18.09\00:03:20.70 Absolutely. In fact we're the forerunners for 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.03 disease in this country. 00:03:23.06\00:03:24.90 So hypertension, heart disease, cancer, diabetes; and we run in 00:03:24.93\00:03:31.81 the front of the larger communities. 00:03:31.84\00:03:34.51 So we really need to look at it. 00:03:34.54\00:03:36.91 But you know what? 00:03:36.95\00:03:38.28 Just as you've been sharing Scripture and principles from 00:03:38.31\00:03:42.18 the Bible, the Bible teaches us how to eat, too. Yeah, it does. 00:03:42.22\00:03:46.15 ...and how to be healthy. 00:03:46.19\00:03:47.52 And how better, where better to get the information from than 00:03:47.56\00:03:51.46 the Creator Himself? Right, right. Right? 00:03:51.49\00:03:53.60 And so what sort of things, because I research financial 00:03:53.66\00:03:58.13 principles in the Bible, but, and I've read the Bible, 00:03:58.17\00:04:01.40 but I really haven't researched all of the healthy things. 00:04:01.44\00:04:04.81 What, from your perspective as a health care expert, 00:04:04.84\00:04:07.11 what should I be learning from the Bible, or taking out of it? 00:04:07.18\00:04:11.48 Right. Well, the first thing is man's original diet. 00:04:11.51\00:04:16.02 Let's look at... this is, the Bible is the manual. It is. 00:04:16.05\00:04:21.09 Right? It's our life's manual. 00:04:21.12\00:04:23.46 And just like you have a car; you have to look at the manual 00:04:23.53\00:04:26.23 to see how to operate that car. 00:04:26.26\00:04:28.33 We can look in the Bible. 00:04:28.36\00:04:29.70 So man's original diet is in Genesis 1:29. 00:04:29.73\00:04:33.10 Would you read that? 00:04:33.13\00:04:34.47 Yeah, absolutely. Genesis 1:29 says, 00:04:34.50\00:04:36.87 So, we've got fruit, nuts, grains, and seeds. 00:04:55.36\00:05:00.63 Those were part of man's original diet. 00:05:00.66\00:05:05.53 There was nothing dead. 00:05:05.57\00:05:06.94 There was no Mickey D's, or KFC in the Garden of Eden. 00:05:06.97\00:05:10.41 No Whoppers in there? 00:05:10.44\00:05:11.77 No Whoppers! Oh, dog gone it! 00:05:11.81\00:05:13.81 There, all there was in the beginning to eat were the nuts, 00:05:14.98\00:05:20.22 seeds, grains, and fruit. 00:05:20.25\00:05:22.15 Then after sin vegetables were introduced. 00:05:22.18\00:05:26.59 Our bodies were changed after sin, 00:05:26.62\00:05:29.39 so vegetables were introduced into the dietary. Wow! 00:05:29.42\00:05:33.16 Still no meat. And so this was after sin? 00:05:33.19\00:05:35.50 This is after sin. See, I never knew that. 00:05:35.53\00:05:37.47 So, and we still have yet no meat. No meat. 00:05:37.53\00:05:41.20 Wow! It's still a plant based diet. 00:05:41.24\00:05:43.77 Now look at what science is saying about plants. 00:05:43.81\00:05:48.24 There's a Dr. Quillin, Patrick Quillin, who wrote a book 00:05:48.28\00:05:51.41 about the hidden secrets of the Bible, 00:05:51.45\00:05:54.28 or health secrets in the Bible. 00:05:54.32\00:05:56.25 And he said that in the plants, a tomato for example, 00:05:56.28\00:06:01.66 has all of these different antioxidants, 00:06:01.69\00:06:07.96 over 10,000 in one tomato. 00:06:08.00\00:06:10.57 One tomato? One tomato. 00:06:10.60\00:06:12.37 Lycopene is one. And Lycopene is very good. 00:06:12.40\00:06:15.84 You mentioned the prostate for men. 00:06:15.87\00:06:18.14 Lycopene is very important. 00:06:18.17\00:06:20.48 Lycopene comes from the tomato. 00:06:20.51\00:06:22.14 So I am juicing, and I heard that tomatoes 00:06:22.18\00:06:24.41 are good for prostate. 00:06:24.45\00:06:25.81 So I'm on the right track. 00:06:25.85\00:06:27.22 I actually just bought, not too long ago I got some of those 00:06:27.25\00:06:29.82 baby tomatoes, those green tomatoes. 00:06:29.85\00:06:31.32 Oh good, good, good. 00:06:31.35\00:06:32.69 Okay, so Lycopene's. 00:06:32.72\00:06:34.06 Lycopene, Lycopene is good. 00:06:34.09\00:06:35.42 And usually if we can eat a very, besides being plant based, 00:06:35.46\00:06:42.83 a lot of raw foods. 00:06:42.86\00:06:44.50 So don't cook all of your foods. Okay. 00:06:44.53\00:06:47.14 Let's have some raw foods. 00:06:47.20\00:06:48.84 Let's have salads, and let's have organic. 00:06:48.87\00:06:51.61 Why? Because organic fruits and vegetables don't have the 00:06:51.64\00:06:54.94 herbicides and pesticides on them. 00:06:54.98\00:06:56.95 So we're getting... We want to bring food 00:06:57.01\00:07:00.25 back to its purer state. 00:07:00.28\00:07:02.28 And so when you do that, when you have organic fruits and 00:07:02.32\00:07:05.79 vegetables, and you're juicing. 00:07:05.82\00:07:07.19 And you've been juicing. 00:07:07.22\00:07:08.56 When you juice, juice organically. 00:07:08.59\00:07:10.99 That's really good. 00:07:11.03\00:07:12.36 Now, those Cheetos you said you like? 00:07:12.39\00:07:14.30 Yeah, I love some Cheetos. 00:07:14.36\00:07:15.66 You know, we have a program... 00:07:15.70\00:07:17.03 I shouldn't be eating them as much as I do. 00:07:17.07\00:07:18.40 My goodness! We have a program on Dare to Dream called 00:07:18.43\00:07:22.54 A Taste of Paradise. 00:07:22.57\00:07:24.24 And the first part of that is raw food preparation, 00:07:24.31\00:07:28.78 and the second part is cooked. 00:07:28.81\00:07:31.08 And then the raw food. 00:07:31.11\00:07:32.51 One of the things that Evita Teezeno, who is the host of that 00:07:32.55\00:07:35.85 segment, and she teaches things like Cheesy Kale Chips. 00:07:35.88\00:07:40.06 So you make Kale Chips, and they taste cheesy, 00:07:40.09\00:07:44.33 but it's made with Nutritional Yeast. 00:07:44.36\00:07:45.79 And it's delicious. 00:07:45.83\00:07:47.20 So I'll make sure that you... 00:07:47.23\00:07:48.70 Does it still stick to your fingers afterwards 00:07:48.73\00:07:50.37 so I can at least... 00:07:50.43\00:07:51.77 You can kind of lick your fingers and get that yeah, yeah. 00:07:51.80\00:07:53.90 You can do it. You can do it, yeah, yeah, yeah so... 00:07:53.94\00:07:56.67 That has to be a part of the whole process. 00:07:56.71\00:07:59.11 Absolutely! Okay, okay. 00:07:59.14\00:08:00.54 It's the experience, alright. 00:08:00.61\00:08:02.14 We're going for the experience. 00:08:02.18\00:08:03.58 So yeah, so there are all these things that God has given us; 00:08:03.61\00:08:07.92 these seeds. And think about seed. 00:08:07.95\00:08:10.65 In a seed there's life, right? 00:08:10.72\00:08:12.69 You plant a seed and life springs forth, right? 00:08:12.72\00:08:15.62 Is that why they say, the Chia seeds, 00:08:15.66\00:08:17.36 and all those things that you put in? 00:08:17.39\00:08:18.89 Great for you! Chia seeds, even have more Omega 3 fatty acids 00:08:18.93\00:08:25.20 than the flax seed. 00:08:25.23\00:08:26.57 Now explain the whole Omega 3 fatty acid. 00:08:26.60\00:08:29.07 What is that, like what is it? 00:08:29.10\00:08:30.74 That is important to the cellular membrane. Okay. 00:08:30.81\00:08:35.51 It builds it. That's what... 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.55 You know, when people many times... 00:08:37.58\00:08:40.32 Well, my background is naturopathic medicine, 00:08:40.35\00:08:44.12 and traditional Chinese medicine. 00:08:44.19\00:08:45.82 I don't practice the... I don't practice either 00:08:45.85\00:08:48.79 one of them anymore. 00:08:48.82\00:08:50.16 But the naturopathic medicine I still kind of use some of the 00:08:50.23\00:08:56.83 principles from, and the herbs from the Chinese. 00:08:56.87\00:08:59.93 And with the naturopathic you learn that if you give the body 00:09:00.07\00:09:04.37 what it needs, it can heal itself. 00:09:04.41\00:09:07.24 That's how God created us. 00:09:07.31\00:09:09.01 So if you give, there's certain physicians who will say, 00:09:09.04\00:09:14.48 or nutritionists who will say, Well, this isn't 00:09:14.52\00:09:19.32 good for everything. 00:09:19.35\00:09:20.89 I don't subscribe to the idea that certain things are 00:09:20.92\00:09:24.09 good for everything. 00:09:24.16\00:09:25.49 But in the case of Omega 3 fatty acids, 00:09:25.53\00:09:28.60 it's good for everything, because it works on the cell. 00:09:28.63\00:09:31.97 So it builds up the cellular membrane. 00:09:32.00\00:09:34.74 And then the cellular membrane... 00:09:34.77\00:09:36.30 Cancer? For anything! 00:09:36.34\00:09:38.44 It's anti-inflammatory and inflammation. 00:09:38.47\00:09:41.84 They're finding a connection between inflammation and cancer. 00:09:41.88\00:09:45.38 And so you want to make sure that you give the individual 00:09:45.41\00:09:49.42 cell what it needs. 00:09:49.45\00:09:51.22 Cells make up tissues. 00:09:51.25\00:09:52.85 Tissues make up organs. 00:09:52.89\00:09:54.29 I had a friend of mine, and she was diagnosed 00:09:54.32\00:09:57.63 with breast cancer. 00:09:57.66\00:09:58.99 She had the operation and then she said she was not 00:09:59.03\00:10:02.66 going to do the chemo. 00:10:02.70\00:10:05.53 So she opted out of the chemo and the radiation, and she went 00:10:05.57\00:10:10.17 somewhere to some place in Mexico, or something. 00:10:10.21\00:10:13.27 And really it was just a place, all they did was just juice. 00:10:13.34\00:10:17.31 I mean they juiced like four or five times per day. Uh huh. 00:10:17.35\00:10:21.32 And she had to continue that when she came back. 00:10:21.35\00:10:23.65 So when she came back she literally, and they said that 00:10:23.69\00:10:26.72 you have to make them fresh right on the spot, 00:10:26.76\00:10:28.56 and you had to drink them on the spot. 00:10:28.59\00:10:29.92 So she was always making juices 00:10:29.99\00:10:32.09 four or five times a day. 00:10:32.13\00:10:33.46 And she had the blender with her and everything. 00:10:33.50\00:10:35.23 But she's healthy now! 00:10:35.26\00:10:36.70 She beat it! And it's just, I believe it was in stage 3 or 4. 00:10:36.73\00:10:41.70 It was like, Wow, this was, it was very advanced. 00:10:41.74\00:10:44.14 I forgot exactly the stage, but it was a very advanced cancer 00:10:44.17\00:10:47.14 that when they said, you know. 00:10:47.21\00:10:48.81 But the next thing I looked up and she's still living, 00:10:48.84\00:10:51.81 and she's doing fine. 00:10:51.85\00:10:53.95 And so is there something to that? 00:10:53.98\00:10:56.45 Is there something to it? 00:10:56.48\00:10:57.82 I mean I, that's what made me say, Hey, you know, if you did 00:10:57.85\00:11:01.06 that and all you did was juicing, hey, sign me up! 00:11:01.09\00:11:05.06 Sign me up! And I'm starting to do that for me, too. 00:11:05.09\00:11:08.03 We hear antidote after antidote of people who have used the 00:11:08.06\00:11:14.34 natural means to reverse conditions. 00:11:14.37\00:11:17.21 You know, I'm not one who says never do traditional medicine, 00:11:17.27\00:11:22.78 or only do natural medicine. 00:11:22.81\00:11:26.92 I feel like there is a place for both. 00:11:26.98\00:11:30.79 I like integrated medicine, actually. 00:11:30.85\00:11:33.15 Because you've got the research on the one hand, 00:11:33.19\00:11:36.32 but now the research is really corroborating the idea 00:11:36.36\00:11:40.76 of a plant based diet, and how beneficial these plants can 00:11:40.80\00:11:45.30 be to the human body. 00:11:45.33\00:11:46.87 Because you... Plants come from the earth. 00:11:46.90\00:11:50.34 Where were we created from? The earth? 00:11:50.37\00:11:52.67 The earth. So I had a couple of patients who had rare cancers. 00:11:52.71\00:11:59.65 And I put them both on... They were both preachers. 00:11:59.68\00:12:04.19 They were Baptist ministers actually, 00:12:04.22\00:12:05.65 and at different times. 00:12:05.69\00:12:07.66 And one had a very rare blood cancer, and another one 00:12:07.69\00:12:12.36 had intestinal cancer. 00:12:12.39\00:12:14.00 Do you know I have a step father, he had blood cancer. 00:12:14.00\00:12:17.87 Myoplastia or something of that nature. 00:12:17.90\00:12:21.24 And that was... Multiple Myeloma? 00:12:21.27\00:12:22.64 I believe that might be it. Yeah. 00:12:22.67\00:12:24.74 It's very rare and he's doing better now. 00:12:24.77\00:12:28.58 Oh, okay. Yeah. Well, praise the Lord for that. 00:12:28.61\00:12:31.78 Yeah, praise the Lord. 00:12:31.81\00:12:33.15 But you can... there's certain things you can do. 00:12:33.18\00:12:35.38 And this Dr. Quillin talks about how there are antioxidants in 00:12:35.42\00:12:43.19 vegetables and fruits, and phytochemicals in these 00:12:43.22\00:12:47.40 fruits and vegetables that are healing to the body. 00:12:47.46\00:12:50.10 They're actually healing. 00:12:50.13\00:12:51.77 So many times if you're really sick you need to go into, 00:12:51.80\00:12:56.27 and again, discuss this with your physician, because we are 00:12:56.30\00:12:59.77 not trying to give you any information that contradicts 00:12:59.81\00:13:03.48 your doctor's information. 00:13:03.55\00:13:04.88 Your physician knows about you. 00:13:04.91\00:13:07.32 So you talk to your physician before you make any changes. 00:13:07.35\00:13:10.42 But there are certain things that can support your body when 00:13:10.49\00:13:13.99 you're going through chemo, when you're going through radiation, 00:13:14.06\00:13:17.43 or before chemo, or before radiation, or surgery. 00:13:17.46\00:13:20.70 That things that you can do to support the body, and one thing 00:13:20.73\00:13:24.30 that many physicians recommend are the Omega 3 fatty acids. 00:13:24.33\00:13:28.94 The brain needs it to function. 00:13:28.97\00:13:31.41 I mean, every cell of the body needs it. 00:13:31.44\00:13:33.54 Is there, because it seems as if, I guess professional 00:13:33.58\00:13:39.61 medicine, right, there is some what of a disconnect between 00:13:39.65\00:13:44.52 natural and professional medicine where... 00:13:44.55\00:13:48.16 Allopathic? Yeah. So they're always battling against each 00:13:48.72\00:13:52.66 other in terms of which one is the right one to do. 00:13:52.69\00:13:54.86 And, you know, because a lot of times, and then if you also 00:13:54.93\00:13:58.53 talk about the amount of money that goes into prescription 00:13:58.57\00:14:02.17 drugs, and the amount of dollars that go towards purchasing 00:14:02.20\00:14:08.14 prescription drugs, we can't even bid on our drugs. 00:14:08.18\00:14:10.45 Our current president's talking about that now, and how we have 00:14:10.48\00:14:13.52 to be able to bid on to get cheaper drugs, right? 00:14:13.55\00:14:15.72 So, I mean, so who are we to believe in all these things? 00:14:15.75\00:14:19.65 I mean it's so many things going around where are we supposed to 00:14:19.69\00:14:22.96 listen to doctors, or do we listen to you? 00:14:22.99\00:14:24.56 Who do we believe in all that stuff? 00:14:24.59\00:14:25.99 We believe the word of God. Yeah. 00:14:26.03\00:14:27.83 We believe the word of God, because the word of God is, 00:14:27.86\00:14:31.90 that's our source for everything. Yeah. 00:14:31.93\00:14:34.20 Now, when you go to the... God has given us physicians, 00:14:34.24\00:14:38.24 I mean Luke was a physician. 00:14:38.27\00:14:39.84 So God has, there's no need to not go to your physician. 00:14:39.87\00:14:44.65 But the things that we can do to support the body we should do. 00:14:44.68\00:14:49.12 Right. Increasing our fruits and vegetables, nuts, 00:14:49.15\00:14:53.72 raw nuts not roasted. 00:14:53.76\00:14:56.09 So I should be eating the fruits as opposed to those Cheetos. 00:14:56.12\00:14:58.89 Absolutely! And veggies. Yeah. 00:14:58.93\00:15:01.70 You know? Like you can grow veggies. 00:15:01.73\00:15:03.77 They taste really good. 00:15:03.80\00:15:05.13 Like I could eat a bowl of turnip greens. 00:15:05.17\00:15:06.84 A good grilled veggie collaborative or salad. Yeah! 00:15:06.87\00:15:11.94 That's actually pretty good. 00:15:11.97\00:15:13.38 It's delicious. You can... there are all kinds of things you 00:15:13.41\00:15:17.65 can do with raw foods to make them more palatable, 00:15:17.68\00:15:21.52 to make them taste like... 00:15:21.55\00:15:23.92 Evita has this mock tuna salad that is made with sunflower 00:15:23.99\00:15:28.89 seeds and kelp, and things like that. 00:15:28.92\00:15:31.16 Kelp is great for the thyroid. 00:15:31.19\00:15:32.86 Kelp? Kelp. It's great for the thyroid. 00:15:32.89\00:15:35.66 I haven't juiced with that one yet. 00:15:35.70\00:15:37.17 I'm going to start eating... I need to start 00:15:37.23\00:15:38.57 getting some of that. 00:15:38.60\00:15:39.93 You might want to put that in your vegetables or something. 00:15:39.97\00:15:42.07 I don't know about juicing it. 00:15:42.10\00:15:43.47 Really? It would make it fishy, kind of fishy tasting. 00:15:43.51\00:15:45.77 I don't know about that. Okay. 00:15:45.81\00:15:47.14 You know what I'm saying? 00:15:47.18\00:15:48.51 I don't think that's so good. 00:15:48.54\00:15:49.88 But you can sprinkle that in your beans. 00:15:49.91\00:15:52.18 Like I use certain sea vegetables in my beans, 00:15:52.21\00:15:57.35 and that tastes good, too. 00:15:57.39\00:15:59.09 So beans and, you know, legumes, nuts, seeds, 00:15:59.12\00:16:05.03 fruits and vegetables. 00:16:05.06\00:16:07.50 And don't, if you have, if you have diabetes you should stay 00:16:07.56\00:16:12.80 low on the glycemic index. 00:16:12.83\00:16:14.97 In other words, you print out, go to the computer and print out 00:16:15.00\00:16:18.17 the glycemic index, and then if you want some fruit 00:16:18.21\00:16:22.34 eat berries: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries. 00:16:22.38\00:16:25.51 Don't eat a lot of bananas. 00:16:25.55\00:16:27.65 And, you know, you should eat apples but... 00:16:27.68\00:16:29.85 Not a lot of bananas? 00:16:29.88\00:16:31.22 Not a lot of bananas. 00:16:31.25\00:16:32.59 Because bananas are high on the glycemic. 00:16:32.62\00:16:34.09 How much does exercise? because my brother he had 00:16:34.16\00:16:38.36 Phase 1 diabetes, is that?... 00:16:38.39\00:16:41.50 Type 1? Type 1 diabetes. 00:16:41.53\00:16:43.53 Okay, that's different from Type 2. 00:16:43.57\00:16:45.23 But it hadn't advanced yet. 00:16:45.27\00:16:47.10 So he would work out. 00:16:47.14\00:16:48.47 And the doctor had told him, Hey, you know what? 00:16:48.50\00:16:51.54 You have Type 1, so we want to start prescribing you 00:16:51.57\00:16:56.28 this drug. Insulin? Insulin. Yeah. 00:16:56.31\00:16:57.95 He said, Well, no, let me just work out. 00:16:57.98\00:16:59.65 So he worked out, and he actually stayed healthy. 00:16:59.68\00:17:02.82 And it didn't advance for a long time. 00:17:02.85\00:17:05.29 Well, then he had an illness, so then it naturally advanced it. 00:17:05.32\00:17:08.72 But for a long time the doctor was saying, You know, 00:17:08.76\00:17:11.19 you're doing a good job of monitoring it. 00:17:11.23\00:17:13.29 And I don't know the terms of what he was saying, but somehow 00:17:13.33\00:17:17.47 he was able to not use the insulin for a long time. 00:17:17.50\00:17:20.24 Wow! That's a blessing! 00:17:20.27\00:17:21.97 Right. Type 2 is easier to turn around. 00:17:22.00\00:17:26.34 Type 2 is diet related. Okay. 00:17:26.37\00:17:31.41 And with Type 2 you can, there are certain supplements you can 00:17:31.45\00:17:37.12 take that can turn it around. 00:17:37.19\00:17:38.79 But you also need more fiber in your diet. 00:17:38.82\00:17:41.36 You also need less processed food. 00:17:41.39\00:17:43.53 You know, eating out of boxes all of the time. 00:17:43.56\00:17:47.50 Just go back to pure, natural foods: lots of fiber, 00:17:47.60\00:17:52.40 lots of green vegetables, and walking. 00:17:52.43\00:17:56.44 Walking and exercise is critical. 00:17:56.47\00:17:59.27 If you're diabetic you need to do exercise. 00:17:59.31\00:18:02.84 That helps to keep the blood sugar... 00:18:02.88\00:18:05.51 See the, with Type 2 Diabetes it's not so much an issue that 00:18:05.55\00:18:09.42 the pancreas isn't making enough insulin, it's that the cells 00:18:09.45\00:18:15.39 are insulin resistant. 00:18:15.42\00:18:16.79 So it can't really, they can't absorb the 00:18:16.86\00:18:20.36 insulin that's being made. 00:18:20.43\00:18:21.73 So the pancreas could be making enough, 00:18:21.76\00:18:23.90 but the body can't absorb it. 00:18:23.97\00:18:26.60 I have to say, when I've been trying to work out. 00:18:26.63\00:18:29.10 I've been, I have a Roop on Facebook. 00:18:29.14\00:18:32.44 It's called Strong 60. 00:18:32.47\00:18:34.08 Okay. So the goal of it was to start the year off strong 00:18:34.11\00:18:37.35 for the first sixty days, and then, now the first sixty days 00:18:37.38\00:18:40.22 was done, we've got to do the next sixty days. 00:18:40.25\00:18:42.02 And it just keeps going. Okay. 00:18:42.05\00:18:43.59 It never stops. So since I've been working out, and I've been 00:18:43.62\00:18:47.19 pretty, I've been doing 3 to 4 days a week. 00:18:47.26\00:18:48.96 So that's been good for me. 00:18:48.99\00:18:50.53 And, you know, we all have these schedules, and we're all busy, 00:18:50.56\00:18:54.20 and everybody's too busy, but all of a sudden you're too busy 00:18:54.20\00:18:56.20 to take care of your temple, right? 00:18:56.23\00:18:57.57 So I say, No more excuses, Ryan. 00:18:57.60\00:18:59.17 No more excuses for being too busy. 00:18:59.20\00:19:01.00 You can work out. You can find some time. 00:19:01.04\00:19:02.97 This is important. This is a priority. 00:19:03.00\00:19:04.57 But since I've started to work out, I've had a lot of things 00:19:04.61\00:19:08.38 that it seemed like were going wrong, not going wrong. 00:19:08.41\00:19:12.35 Right? Like, you know, I've been to the doctor and they said, 00:19:12.38\00:19:14.72 No, you're fine and everything. 00:19:14.75\00:19:16.08 But my foot... I'd wake up and like I had my, you know, 00:19:16.12\00:19:20.09 sometimes you have ailments, and like my foot was just 00:19:20.12\00:19:22.09 hurting for some reason. 00:19:22.12\00:19:23.46 That doesn't hurt anymore. 00:19:23.49\00:19:24.83 Maybe you're getting neuropathy or something. 00:19:24.86\00:19:27.13 Well, whatever it is, since I started working out it's gone. 00:19:27.13\00:19:29.56 Praise the Lord. And I don't feel it again. 00:19:29.60\00:19:30.97 Praise the Lord! I mean its all gone. 00:19:31.00\00:19:32.90 And so, and I mean, I feel myself having more energy. 00:19:32.93\00:19:35.97 I feel myself, I mean I'm more alive, I'm more exuberant. 00:19:36.00\00:19:39.84 I'm like, Wow, you know what? This is just because for a long 00:19:39.87\00:19:42.71 time I'll be at home working on my computer. 00:19:42.74\00:19:45.25 And, you know, I mean my excuse was always, Okay, 00:19:45.28\00:19:49.25 Ryan, you're too busy. 00:19:49.28\00:19:50.62 You have to get this done. 00:19:50.69\00:19:52.02 You have to do that. 00:19:52.05\00:19:53.39 And I would work many hours. 00:19:53.42\00:19:54.76 I would get up at 4 or 5 in the morning, and would get on my 00:19:54.79\00:19:56.73 laptop, and the next thing you know its... 00:19:56.76\00:19:58.33 I would start working at 8 o'clock. 00:19:58.36\00:20:00.03 I would go out in the field and get back home at 6 or 7. 00:20:00.10\00:20:02.96 And I'd get back on my computer, and I'd go to bed. 00:20:03.00\00:20:05.03 And start the same thing all over again. 00:20:05.07\00:20:06.40 And the process just kept going and going. 00:20:06.43\00:20:08.47 Nothing in there said anything about diet. 00:20:08.50\00:20:10.87 I would skip meals. 00:20:10.91\00:20:12.24 I would skip working out. 00:20:12.27\00:20:13.64 And I just felt myself; I just felt different. 00:20:13.68\00:20:16.11 Uh huh. I felt different. 00:20:16.14\00:20:17.65 And since, I mean literally since this year, 00:20:17.68\00:20:21.52 I've just felt better, and I, it's nothing but God, but saying 00:20:21.55\00:20:25.99 like, I gotta do this, you know? 00:20:26.02\00:20:27.96 So I guess exercise is important. 00:20:27.99\00:20:30.63 Exercise is critical. 00:20:30.69\00:20:32.03 And the more you move toward a plant based diet, 00:20:32.06\00:20:36.90 along with exercise, you know, you start feeling more alive. 00:20:36.93\00:20:41.60 You're feeding, that blood stream goes everywhere. 00:20:41.64\00:20:45.81 You want clean blood. Right. 00:20:45.84\00:20:47.61 What cleans, what gives you clean blood, or clean food? 00:20:47.64\00:20:50.91 Right. You know, when we eat properly, and we can get some 00:20:50.95\00:20:55.48 good supplementation, we can detox the body. 00:20:55.52\00:20:59.65 We want to keep that acid alkaline relationship right. 00:20:59.69\00:21:04.13 We want to just get that exercise in. 00:21:04.16\00:21:07.40 All these things, and even thoughts. 00:21:07.40\00:21:10.07 How a man thinketh in his heart... 00:21:10.13\00:21:11.87 You know, as a man thinketh in his heart so is he? Uh huh. 00:21:11.90\00:21:14.80 Thoughts that are positive are really important. That's true. 00:21:14.84\00:21:18.21 So it's all of these things that we do to keep this temple, 00:21:18.24\00:21:24.11 to honor God in our temples. 00:21:24.15\00:21:26.28 And it's easy to kind of fall off, you know, and get, 00:21:26.31\00:21:29.72 you know, get off on another thing. 00:21:29.75\00:21:31.69 But we just get back up again, you know? 00:21:31.72\00:21:35.56 So there's, and like I wrote this article 00:21:35.59\00:21:37.59 for Huffington Post. 00:21:37.63\00:21:38.96 And I was in Brooklyn and I was walking down the 00:21:38.99\00:21:42.20 street and I looked. 00:21:42.23\00:21:44.67 I was on the corner, and there was... 00:21:44.70\00:21:46.40 I was on Fulton and Franklin. 00:21:46.43\00:21:49.10 And I looked up, and on one corner there was 00:21:49.14\00:21:53.17 crown fried chicken. 00:21:53.21\00:21:54.61 On the next corner there was Kennedy fried chicken. 00:21:54.64\00:21:57.48 On the third corner there was Popeye's fried chicken. 00:21:57.51\00:22:00.42 Literally on the corner of all... 00:22:00.45\00:22:02.25 And then out on the other corner there was a stand. 00:22:02.28\00:22:06.22 It had guy rolls, and fried foods, 00:22:06.25\00:22:08.49 and all this other just, just junk. 00:22:08.52\00:22:10.63 And I said, Wow! And I labeled the article, 00:22:10.66\00:22:14.20 Four Corners of Heart Disease. 00:22:14.30\00:22:15.63 And this was back before gentrification in that 00:22:15.66\00:22:20.60 particular part of the town. 00:22:20.64\00:22:21.97 Now, post gentrification, when folks were a little bit more 00:22:22.00\00:22:25.47 influenced on moving into the neighborhood. 00:22:25.51\00:22:26.84 Of course, they get juice bars, and they get, you know, 00:22:26.88\00:22:29.74 the nice greeneries. 00:22:29.78\00:22:31.35 And their grocery store all of a sudden starts having all 00:22:31.38\00:22:33.72 of these fresh fruits and vegetables to eat. 00:22:33.78\00:22:35.92 And that was my neighborhood, so I was thankful for it, 00:22:35.95\00:22:38.62 that I would have access to that. 00:22:38.65\00:22:40.02 But what's your advice to those individuals who are in rural 00:22:40.06\00:22:44.33 America, or Appalachia, or urban America where there's 00:22:44.36\00:22:47.46 like a food desert? Yes! 00:22:47.50\00:22:49.40 And there's, they don't have access to a lot 00:22:49.43\00:22:51.40 of the healthier food. 00:22:51.43\00:22:52.77 What are some things they should do? 00:22:52.80\00:22:54.34 That's such a great question. 00:22:54.37\00:22:55.87 Because they literally are food deserts. 00:22:55.90\00:22:58.74 And I've heard stories of people who have to ride the bus 00:22:58.77\00:23:02.01 or train for thirty minutes to go into another neighborhood 00:23:02.04\00:23:05.21 to get decent vegetables. 00:23:05.25\00:23:06.72 Go to your grocery store and tell that manager that you want 00:23:06.75\00:23:10.69 better fruits and vegetables in there. 00:23:10.72\00:23:13.39 And have your neighbors do the same thing. 00:23:13.46\00:23:16.46 You can also start, like your own little garden in your 00:23:16.49\00:23:19.66 apartment, like on the terrace. 00:23:19.69\00:23:21.46 You can grow some herbs, fresh herbs and fresh vegetables. 00:23:21.50\00:23:25.27 They're almost like portable gardens. 00:23:25.30\00:23:26.90 It almost looks like a small shoe box, right? 00:23:26.94\00:23:28.77 Right, that's right. 00:23:28.80\00:23:30.17 That's cost efficient, and it's growing food. 00:23:30.21\00:23:31.54 And that's the true principle of self-determination, right? 00:23:31.57\00:23:35.24 That's right. And I can do all this. 00:23:35.28\00:23:37.11 Boy, God is good! God is good. 00:23:37.15\00:23:39.18 And He's given us what we need. 00:23:39.21\00:23:40.95 All we have to do is just, you know, read the word. 00:23:40.98\00:23:43.85 Find out if you're eating... Go back to the word to find 00:23:43.89\00:23:46.76 out what meats should I be eating? 00:23:46.82\00:23:48.72 Or should I even be eating meats? 00:23:48.76\00:23:50.09 But if you are eating meats, go back to Leviticus 11, 00:23:50.13\00:23:53.46 and look at the clean meats versus the unclean meats. 00:23:53.50\00:23:56.36 You know, and there are things that we should not put into our 00:23:56.40\00:23:59.83 bodies, and there are reasons for that. 00:23:59.87\00:24:01.87 But it's all there. 00:24:01.90\00:24:04.74 Leviticus 11 tells you what meats are clean 00:24:04.77\00:24:07.48 and what meats aren't clean. 00:24:07.51\00:24:08.91 So we can do a plant based diet. 00:24:08.94\00:24:12.75 We can do our supplements, like Omega 3 fatty acids. 00:24:12.78\00:24:17.95 We can eat our seeds and help give us some more energy, 00:24:17.99\00:24:23.26 because we're tired all the time. 00:24:23.29\00:24:24.63 And the other thing is rest. 00:24:24.66\00:24:26.26 We don't get enough rest. 00:24:26.29\00:24:28.13 Um, I need that. So rest is critical. 00:24:28.16\00:24:30.03 Because that's when the body repairs. 00:24:30.07\00:24:32.77 The more rest I get the better you feel. 00:24:32.80\00:24:35.54 That's right. I used to be able to say, Ah, I need four hours 00:24:35.57\00:24:39.11 and that's good enough for me. 00:24:39.14\00:24:40.48 No, no, in fact they're showing, science is showing that if 00:24:40.54\00:24:44.75 you're not getting enough sleep your body can actually go into 00:24:44.78\00:24:48.32 a pre-diabetic state, because you're not getting enough rest. 00:24:48.35\00:24:52.59 You've got to rest. 00:24:52.62\00:24:54.26 So we've got to take control of our lives, 00:24:54.29\00:24:56.39 I mean regardless of the schedule. 00:24:56.42\00:24:58.16 And you're inspiring me right now to say, Ryan, 00:24:58.19\00:25:00.93 you need to take control. 00:25:00.96\00:25:02.43 You're not too busy to do it. 00:25:02.46\00:25:04.67 You're not too busy to focus on God's temple... That's right. 00:25:04.70\00:25:07.94 ...and get things done. 00:25:07.97\00:25:09.30 I mean, and so what's your perspective on... 00:25:09.34\00:25:11.91 because it seems as if you have a movement. 00:25:11.94\00:25:14.68 And you have a book out. 00:25:14.71\00:25:16.04 And so there's this movement that you're inspiring others 00:25:16.08\00:25:19.18 to do to follow what you're doing. 00:25:19.21\00:25:21.12 But it just doesn't seem like it's a national movement. 00:25:21.15\00:25:24.32 But we can, we'll have a national movement to change 00:25:24.35\00:25:27.49 policy, and political policy. Yes. 00:25:27.56\00:25:29.22 We'll have a national movement to do, to demand of others. 00:25:29.26\00:25:33.40 But we don't have a national movement of what we can do 00:25:33.43\00:25:37.17 for ourselves, right? 00:25:37.23\00:25:38.57 And so what's your thoughts on how we can make sure that the 00:25:38.60\00:25:41.34 message keeps getting out there more? 00:25:41.37\00:25:42.70 Because we need to do more for ourselves. 00:25:42.74\00:25:44.17 This is God's temple. 00:25:44.21\00:25:45.54 It's too important to let go by the wayside. 00:25:45.57\00:25:47.44 Read. There are great books out there. 00:25:47.48\00:25:50.21 One, it's old but it's really good. 00:25:50.25\00:25:52.75 It's called Counsels on Diet and Foods. 00:25:52.78\00:25:55.38 It's written by Ellen White. 00:25:55.42\00:25:56.75 It is an excellent book on the relationship between food 00:25:56.79\00:26:01.19 and spirituality, and then how to eat, and some of the foods 00:26:01.22\00:26:04.83 we should be eating. 00:26:04.86\00:26:06.19 Talk to your friends and family, get other people too, 00:26:06.23\00:26:12.43 and get accountable. 00:26:12.47\00:26:13.97 We've got to get our families in health. 00:26:14.04\00:26:15.84 We've got to get our families more healthy. 00:26:15.87\00:26:17.31 We have, I know I have to. 00:26:17.34\00:26:18.67 I've got to... We've got some friends... I mean Thanksgiving 00:26:18.71\00:26:21.48 time, and around Christmas time we eat. 00:26:21.51\00:26:23.35 We like to get around the table. 00:26:23.38\00:26:24.71 And that food there, I think you would look at it and say, 00:26:24.75\00:26:28.22 Whew, my goodness! 00:26:28.25\00:26:29.58 Well, you know, we can do healthy substitutions. 00:26:29.62\00:26:32.69 My thing is, and this is what we do on Dare to Dream, 00:26:32.72\00:26:36.66 we try to give you good tasting food so that you don't, 00:26:36.73\00:26:41.83 you might wish you had some other food, 00:26:41.86\00:26:44.33 but you're happy with what you have, too. 00:26:44.37\00:26:45.97 So there are great, great things. 00:26:46.00\00:26:48.40 I can't believe our time is just about up. 00:26:48.44\00:26:50.57 I thank you so much for everything. 00:26:50.61\00:26:52.21 And this has been inspiring to me. 00:26:52.24\00:26:53.58 Well, praise the Lord! 00:26:53.64\00:26:54.98 I'm so glad, and I know you have a Takeaway. 00:26:55.01\00:26:57.41 Let's go to it. Good. 00:26:57.45\00:26:58.78 Today I'm announcing that I will make a change for the better. 00:27:04.45\00:27:08.39 I will limit my intake of fatty foods 00:27:08.42\00:27:10.46 and commit to a healthy diet. 00:27:10.49\00:27:11.83 I will make a commitment to satisfy my snack cravings with 00:27:11.86\00:27:14.83 vegetables and healthy juicing. 00:27:14.83\00:27:16.33 I will go to the gym at least three times a week. 00:27:16.36\00:27:18.67 I will lose 20 pounds in the next three months. 00:27:18.70\00:27:21.17 And I will begin to train my mind to accept the fact that I 00:27:21.20\00:27:24.64 don't need food just because I'm watching a 00:27:24.67\00:27:26.41 football game or a movie. 00:27:26.44\00:27:27.81 I hope that many of you are with me on this. 00:27:27.84\00:27:29.91 Because I am tired of seeing and hearing about poor health 00:27:29.94\00:27:32.95 conditions that have caused someone to have their foot 00:27:32.98\00:27:34.88 amputated because of poor health or diabetes. 00:27:34.92\00:27:37.12 We only have one body. 00:27:37.19\00:27:38.72 This all the body we get. 00:27:38.75\00:27:40.26 We might as well take care of it. 00:27:40.29\00:27:41.62 Who's with me? Let's do our part to do our own health care 00:27:41.66\00:27:44.86 reform with healthy living. 00:27:44.93\00:27:46.63 Please email us at: 00:27:46.70\00:27:48.00 Or chat with us on a Dare to Dream Network Facebook page, 00:27:50.53\00:27:53.40 and let us know how your progress is coming along. 00:27:53.44\00:27:55.47 As always, be the change. 00:27:55.50\00:27:57.31 And remember, the purpose of life is a life of purpose. 00:27:57.37\00:28:00.21 Be blessed. 00:28:00.24\00:28:01.58
