What is money for? 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.16 Is it a helpful resource to use for good 00:00:03.20\00:00:06.00 or is the love of it the root of all evil? 00:00:06.03\00:00:08.80 Actually, it's both, 00:00:08.84\00:00:10.27 but God may have 00:00:10.31\00:00:11.64 a different definition of success. 00:00:11.67\00:00:13.84 Real success doesn't come overnight. 00:00:13.88\00:00:16.58 It takes hard work and faithful planning. 00:00:16.61\00:00:20.55 To use your dollars well, 00:00:20.58\00:00:22.55 it takes more than a little sense. 00:00:22.58\00:00:26.96 Hello and welcome to Dollars and Sense. 00:00:26.99\00:00:29.62 My name is Yvonne Lewis, 00:00:29.66\00:00:30.99 and I'm the co-host for this program. 00:00:31.03\00:00:33.40 Our primary host is Ryan Mack, financial literacy expert, 00:00:33.43\00:00:37.67 author, trainer, you name it. 00:00:37.70\00:00:40.64 Ryan! It's great to be here? 00:00:40.67\00:00:42.24 It's great day. 00:00:42.27\00:00:43.61 It is so good to co-host this program with you. 00:00:43.64\00:00:46.04 Absolutely. 00:00:46.07\00:00:47.41 We've been getting some great tips. 00:00:47.44\00:00:49.41 Yeah, the Lord has just really blessed you 00:00:49.44\00:00:51.61 with insight and information. 00:00:51.65\00:00:54.38 I'm just so glad that our Dare to Dream viewers 00:00:54.42\00:00:56.52 can pick your brain and get some info. 00:00:56.55\00:00:59.95 Absolutely, love and having a great time. 00:00:59.99\00:01:01.76 Oh, that's good. That's good. 00:01:01.79\00:01:03.43 So what are we going to talk about today? 00:01:03.46\00:01:04.79 Today is something where that is very near 00:01:04.83\00:01:06.86 and dear to me, as I do a lot of traveling. 00:01:06.90\00:01:10.63 I meet and I see a lot of organizations 00:01:10.67\00:01:12.83 who are doing great work. 00:01:12.87\00:01:14.50 But they don't have necessarily the funding 00:01:14.54\00:01:16.84 just to remain viable. 00:01:16.87\00:01:18.97 And a lot of times, they're so humble, 00:01:19.01\00:01:21.01 and they're so gracious, 00:01:21.04\00:01:22.38 and they're doing such amazing work. 00:01:22.41\00:01:24.85 But I've some scripture I wanted to read 00:01:24.88\00:01:26.45 that kind of outlines some things that 00:01:26.48\00:01:29.25 I believe that we should just listen to, 00:01:29.28\00:01:31.15 this gonna help these organizations out. 00:01:31.19\00:01:32.75 Great. 00:01:32.79\00:01:34.12 So the first scripture is Isaiah 58:7. 00:01:34.16\00:01:38.33 That says, "Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, 00:01:38.36\00:01:43.23 and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? 00:01:43.26\00:01:48.17 When thou seest the naked, 00:01:48.20\00:01:50.74 that thou cover him, 00:01:50.77\00:01:52.57 and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh." 00:01:52.61\00:01:56.95 I think this speaks to our obligation as Christians. 00:01:56.98\00:02:00.85 If we see someone who's hungry, 00:02:00.88\00:02:03.39 we need to feed them, we have to clothe them. 00:02:03.42\00:02:05.89 This is what, the edict that 00:02:05.92\00:02:07.46 is one of my favorite scriptures 00:02:07.49\00:02:08.82 in the Word. 00:02:08.86\00:02:10.19 And I think a lot of nonprofits, 00:02:10.23\00:02:11.56 they believe this. 00:02:11.59\00:02:12.93 They are doing the work there, 00:02:12.96\00:02:14.30 they're educating former incarcerated, 00:02:14.33\00:02:15.76 they're providing a safe house for homeless veterans. 00:02:15.80\00:02:19.10 And I think that scripture speaks to 00:02:19.13\00:02:21.04 and I have another scripture here, 00:02:21.07\00:02:23.14 that further speaks to another thing nonprofit 00:02:23.17\00:02:27.71 should really pay attention to, 00:02:27.74\00:02:29.24 and this is 1 Corinthians 14:40. 00:02:29.28\00:02:33.08 That says, "Let all things 00:02:33.11\00:02:36.08 be done decently and in order." 00:02:36.12\00:02:40.69 So what this says to me is that yes, 00:02:40.72\00:02:43.73 you want to clothe the homeless, 00:02:43.76\00:02:46.09 and you want to feed, and you want to help veterans, 00:02:46.13\00:02:48.40 and you want to help youth aging out of foster care 00:02:48.43\00:02:51.50 and doing such great work, 00:02:51.53\00:02:52.87 again, across the country, and around the world, 00:02:52.90\00:02:54.24 people are doing amazing things. 00:02:54.27\00:02:55.60 But if you're gonna do it, 00:02:55.64\00:02:57.21 all things need to be done decently 00:02:57.24\00:02:59.37 and in order. 00:02:59.41\00:03:01.01 That speaks to the books that we're up-keeping, 00:03:01.04\00:03:03.71 that speaks to the accounting, 00:03:03.75\00:03:05.08 that speaks to the budgeting, 00:03:05.11\00:03:06.45 making sure you have the right budget, 00:03:06.48\00:03:07.82 making sure your marketing plan is in order. 00:03:07.85\00:03:09.82 And then finally have the final scripture 00:03:09.85\00:03:11.79 out of Proverbs 11:14. 00:03:11.82\00:03:17.46 That says, "Where no counsel is, 00:03:17.49\00:03:21.40 the people fall: 00:03:21.43\00:03:22.76 but in a multitude of counselors, 00:03:22.80\00:03:24.83 there is safety." 00:03:24.87\00:03:26.87 So I think this is really 00:03:26.90\00:03:29.37 the business plan for nonprofits. 00:03:29.40\00:03:33.14 You want to do some great work, it says in Isaiah. 00:03:33.17\00:03:36.01 You want to do the great work, 00:03:36.04\00:03:37.38 you want to clothe the homeless, 00:03:37.41\00:03:38.81 you want to feed the hungry. 00:03:38.85\00:03:41.08 But then you want to make sure you do it in order. 00:03:41.12\00:03:43.55 You want to make sure you have the business plan 00:03:43.59\00:03:45.02 and the strategy put in place. 00:03:45.05\00:03:46.82 But then in order to do that, 00:03:46.86\00:03:48.19 you have to find some counselors to help you 00:03:48.22\00:03:50.43 along the way to do that, 00:03:50.46\00:03:51.96 and get a multitude of counselors. 00:03:51.99\00:03:53.40 So these are some things that I've just taken out. 00:03:53.43\00:03:56.06 I remember when I was in Brooklyn, 00:03:56.10\00:03:58.27 we helped over 2,000 individuals 00:03:58.30\00:04:00.57 who were formerly incarcerated, 00:04:00.60\00:04:03.00 to get jobs and training. 00:04:03.04\00:04:04.41 And there's really an aspect of self-determination 00:04:04.44\00:04:07.11 and self-sufficiency 00:04:07.14\00:04:08.48 which is what I believe 00:04:08.51\00:04:09.84 is one of the strongest edicts of Christianity, 00:04:09.88\00:04:11.28 is making sure that we know that 00:04:11.31\00:04:12.91 God has given us all things to do everything. 00:04:12.95\00:04:17.32 And we didn't get any funding for this. 00:04:17.35\00:04:19.35 But by the grace of God, 00:04:19.39\00:04:20.86 most of the individuals that I was working with, 00:04:20.89\00:04:23.16 I had my own business, and we were self-sufficient. 00:04:23.19\00:04:25.86 And we did a lot of things that in order to make sure that 00:04:25.89\00:04:28.53 we could fund ourselves. 00:04:28.56\00:04:29.90 So we didn't get a dime of funding. 00:04:29.93\00:04:31.30 But at the end of the day, 00:04:31.33\00:04:32.67 not all profits are in this situation. 00:04:32.70\00:04:35.47 We're not... We don't see. 00:04:35.50\00:04:36.84 We don't see. 00:04:36.87\00:04:38.21 I mean, I remember one time, 00:04:38.24\00:04:39.71 there was one young lady who was doing such great work. 00:04:39.74\00:04:43.11 And every single Wednesday, 00:04:43.14\00:04:45.85 she had a food pantry, 00:04:45.88\00:04:47.95 and people would come and they would eat 00:04:47.98\00:04:50.35 and then on every Saturday 00:04:50.39\00:04:52.62 they would have a clothing place 00:04:52.65\00:04:54.76 where people will donate clothes 00:04:54.79\00:04:56.12 and bring all these clothes, 00:04:56.16\00:04:57.49 and so every Saturday people 00:04:57.53\00:04:58.86 would come and get all these free clothes. 00:04:58.89\00:05:00.23 But she just wasn't getting the right support. 00:05:00.26\00:05:02.70 And she was doing such great work, 00:05:02.73\00:05:04.07 but no one really knew about it 00:05:04.10\00:05:05.43 except for those individuals that she was serving. 00:05:05.47\00:05:07.64 So what would happen was that, 00:05:07.67\00:05:09.00 I mean, these individuals 00:05:09.04\00:05:10.37 didn't have any funding to support. 00:05:10.41\00:05:12.27 She wanted to keep their doors open. 00:05:12.31\00:05:14.31 She wanted to remain viable. 00:05:14.34\00:05:16.14 But she had to close the doors. 00:05:16.18\00:05:17.91 And so the food stops, 00:05:17.95\00:05:19.58 and she got a few awards from the community, 00:05:19.61\00:05:23.42 you know, and I guess that's a good thing. 00:05:23.45\00:05:25.65 And they honored her multiple times, 00:05:25.69\00:05:27.92 but that didn't keep her doors open. 00:05:27.96\00:05:30.09 You can't pay the bills with the plaque, right? 00:05:30.13\00:05:31.46 Yeah, pay the... 00:05:31.49\00:05:32.83 And not with plaque and note and chicken dinners, you know? 00:05:32.86\00:05:34.36 Yeah. 00:05:34.40\00:05:35.73 We have to, and I think as a community, 00:05:35.76\00:05:38.03 and I have some tips here that I would love to give, 00:05:38.07\00:05:41.37 or say, provide some feedback to the people 00:05:41.40\00:05:43.47 to make sure they can know that 00:05:43.51\00:05:44.84 other people are hearing about what they're doing. 00:05:44.87\00:05:46.27 Right. 00:05:46.31\00:05:47.64 But the community has to step up 00:05:47.68\00:05:49.01 and support these in the organization. 00:05:49.04\00:05:50.48 Right. So... 00:05:50.51\00:05:52.75 You know, it's funny, you would say that 00:05:52.78\00:05:54.12 because Dare to Dream is part of 3ABN, 00:05:54.15\00:05:57.45 which is a nonprofit. 00:05:57.49\00:05:59.22 And we were on satellite for a while, 00:05:59.25\00:06:02.59 but then we went off satellite, and we were on internet. 00:06:02.62\00:06:06.36 We just didn't get enough funding from folks. 00:06:06.39\00:06:09.76 And folks would love the programming, 00:06:09.80\00:06:12.17 love all of this. 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.54 I didn't knew, what's amazing is this program, 00:06:13.57\00:06:16.37 I didn't even really know we were going to do this today. 00:06:16.40\00:06:18.71 So we don't want the viewers to think this is a set-up. 00:06:18.74\00:06:21.54 Right. 'Cause it's not. 00:06:21.58\00:06:23.91 I'm really glad he's doing this program. 00:06:23.95\00:06:25.95 But it was really, it was something 00:06:25.98\00:06:31.49 because a lot of folks were calling saying, 00:06:31.52\00:06:33.36 where's Dare to Dream, 00:06:33.39\00:06:34.72 we're not seeing it on satellite, 00:06:34.76\00:06:36.09 we're not seeing it on our TVs anymore. 00:06:36.12\00:06:38.23 We're still on 24/7, you know, with Roku, and your iPad, 00:06:38.26\00:06:42.40 your iPhone, all of that. 00:06:42.43\00:06:44.07 But my point is that, 00:06:44.10\00:06:46.53 had we gotten sufficient support, 00:06:46.57\00:06:49.27 we could have stayed on satellite longer, 00:06:49.30\00:06:51.97 but we just, people love it. 00:06:52.01\00:06:53.44 Right. 00:06:53.48\00:06:54.81 But the dollars have to match the praise. 00:06:54.84\00:06:56.61 Right. 00:06:56.64\00:06:57.98 You know, we love you, 00:06:58.01\00:06:59.35 we want you to be on, you know, all that. 00:06:59.38\00:07:02.52 But you have to support on some level. 00:07:02.55\00:07:05.19 And it's not like people 00:07:05.22\00:07:06.55 have to give like a huge amount. 00:07:06.59\00:07:08.42 But on some level, you know, 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.53 support is imperative 00:07:10.56\00:07:11.93 if you're involved in a nonprofit. 00:07:11.96\00:07:14.10 And it's tax deductible, 00:07:14.13\00:07:15.60 so it gets written off your taxes. 00:07:15.63\00:07:16.97 It's a win-win. Right. 00:07:17.00\00:07:19.17 And we can continue providing 00:07:19.20\00:07:20.70 the kinds of programs like this, 00:07:20.74\00:07:23.07 that we do to the community. 00:07:23.10\00:07:24.44 But the bottom line is right now our country 00:07:24.47\00:07:27.18 is in an economic state of... 00:07:27.21\00:07:30.25 I don't want to say crisis 00:07:30.28\00:07:31.61 because I don't want to put a fear monger out there. 00:07:31.65\00:07:34.02 But we're strapped for money right now. 00:07:34.05\00:07:36.72 The government is overextended 00:07:36.75\00:07:38.49 its resources, our debts rising. 00:07:38.52\00:07:41.79 And there have, there has to be 00:07:41.82\00:07:43.93 a level of stopgap measure 00:07:43.96\00:07:46.09 where other organizations 00:07:46.13\00:07:47.46 are stepping up to the plate 00:07:47.50\00:07:48.83 and those organizations that are doing the work 00:07:48.86\00:07:50.37 like this organization. 00:07:50.40\00:07:52.27 Like others, like the young lady 00:07:52.30\00:07:53.67 that I mentioned, 00:07:53.70\00:07:55.20 they're able to fill the gap in our communities 00:07:55.24\00:07:58.54 in such a way 00:07:58.57\00:07:59.91 where the government can't reach 00:07:59.94\00:08:01.31 because they just don't have the resources to do it. 00:08:01.34\00:08:03.01 Right. 00:08:03.04\00:08:04.38 And the beautiful part that 00:08:04.41\00:08:05.75 I like about nonprofits 00:08:05.78\00:08:07.12 is their will to say, you know what? 00:08:07.15\00:08:08.55 If I can't get help from someone else, 00:08:08.58\00:08:12.65 I'm going to do it myself. 00:08:12.69\00:08:14.09 It's that go-getter mentality. 00:08:14.12\00:08:15.46 You are an entrepreneur, if you're nonprofit owner. 00:08:15.49\00:08:18.09 It's a business just like any other business. 00:08:18.13\00:08:20.63 And I think we have to start looking at it like that, 00:08:20.66\00:08:22.73 we have to be more diligent. 00:08:22.76\00:08:24.10 I know, we're gonna have another 00:08:24.13\00:08:25.47 whole show on entrepreneurship. 00:08:25.50\00:08:27.14 And I think that fits right in. 00:08:27.17\00:08:28.90 But today, I just have some basic 00:08:28.94\00:08:30.87 marketing tips for nonprofits. 00:08:30.91\00:08:32.24 Good. Good. 00:08:32.27\00:08:33.61 I need to take notes myself. You know what? 00:08:33.64\00:08:36.68 And I hope this is able to bless 00:08:36.71\00:08:38.51 the viewers out there. 00:08:38.55\00:08:39.88 So the first thing that I think nonprofits should do is 00:08:39.91\00:08:43.95 and as humble as they are, that's great. 00:08:43.99\00:08:45.95 But we need to have a little sensationalism. 00:08:45.99\00:08:48.82 We need to get our message out 00:08:48.86\00:08:50.76 and people need to know what you're doing. 00:08:50.79\00:08:52.63 First thing you have to do is create a YouTube channel. 00:08:52.66\00:08:55.26 YouTube, you see the blessed part about us 00:08:55.30\00:08:58.83 and what's happening in our community right now, 00:08:58.87\00:09:01.07 social media, and all of these platforms that 00:09:01.10\00:09:03.47 allow us to get our message out more effectively. 00:09:03.51\00:09:06.27 We should be, every single nonprofit 00:09:06.31\00:09:08.21 out there for free and you can use a phone, 00:09:08.24\00:09:10.15 you can use your iPhone, you can use whatever phone, 00:09:10.18\00:09:13.01 your Android, everybody has ability 00:09:13.05\00:09:14.52 to make videos of some sort. 00:09:14.55\00:09:16.72 So going out there, 00:09:16.75\00:09:18.09 get on YouTube, and make some channel. 00:09:18.12\00:09:20.72 Every time you're feeding someone, videotape the event. 00:09:20.76\00:09:24.03 Every time you're educating, 00:09:24.06\00:09:25.39 you're empowering some youth in the community, 00:09:25.43\00:09:27.43 then videotape the event, 00:09:27.46\00:09:29.76 put it up on your YouTube channel, 00:09:29.80\00:09:31.87 and start sending people the links, 00:09:31.90\00:09:33.37 put it on Facebook and Twitter and social media, 00:09:33.40\00:09:36.71 have a Facebook page for your event. 00:09:36.74\00:09:38.37 Dare to Dream Network has a Facebook page? 00:09:38.41\00:09:40.14 Yeah, and a YouTube channel. And YouTube channel. 00:09:40.18\00:09:42.24 So all of these things assist 00:09:42.28\00:09:44.25 getting the message out for next to nothing. 00:09:44.28\00:09:46.41 You don't have to pay anything for these things. 00:09:46.45\00:09:47.78 Right. 00:09:47.82\00:09:49.15 And that's a really good point too, Ryan, 00:09:49.18\00:09:51.12 because a lot of nonprofits will think, 00:09:51.15\00:09:52.65 well, I got to pay for this, I got to pay for that. 00:09:52.69\00:09:54.72 I don't have the money. 00:09:54.76\00:09:56.09 But these social media platforms are free. 00:09:56.12\00:09:58.59 Free of charge. 00:09:58.63\00:09:59.96 Most of them are free of charge. 00:10:00.00\00:10:01.33 So there really is no excuses now, 00:10:01.36\00:10:03.20 for you not being able 00:10:03.23\00:10:04.57 to put a good marketing strategy together 00:10:04.60\00:10:06.03 because you have access just like, 00:10:06.07\00:10:08.00 well, maybe me back in the '70s and '80s, 00:10:08.04\00:10:10.31 most of the marketing campaigns had to be done 00:10:10.34\00:10:12.41 with connections to huge networks and huge... 00:10:12.44\00:10:15.74 You know, they didn't have the internet. 00:10:15.78\00:10:17.21 So you had to tap into someone, 00:10:17.25\00:10:18.61 you had to pay big dollars to get your stuff in the paper, 00:10:18.65\00:10:22.05 so all those things that... 00:10:22.08\00:10:23.42 Well, now we have social media, 00:10:23.45\00:10:25.32 so we have to start utilizing these things. 00:10:25.35\00:10:27.06 So another thing is, in order for you to do that, 00:10:27.09\00:10:30.03 there's a lot of media, your iPhone, 00:10:30.06\00:10:32.76 there's this thing called the flip cam, 00:10:32.79\00:10:34.76 and different technology that you can just use to just 00:10:34.80\00:10:36.77 within your hand, 00:10:36.80\00:10:38.13 you can film every single event. 00:10:38.17\00:10:40.24 And it's just as easily uploadable 00:10:40.27\00:10:42.17 to your YouTube channel. 00:10:42.20\00:10:43.61 And again, some people say, Ryan, I hear this all the time. 00:10:43.64\00:10:47.78 Well, I'm not too comfortable filming it. 00:10:47.81\00:10:50.18 Or I don't know if I want to do that. 00:10:50.21\00:10:52.71 And again, this is not necessarily about 00:10:52.75\00:10:55.08 your level of comfort, this is about the people 00:10:55.12\00:10:56.89 that you're serving. 00:10:56.92\00:10:58.42 So we've got to stretch beyond the box of even 00:10:58.45\00:11:00.56 our own comfort levels. 00:11:00.59\00:11:01.92 I know you feel like you're bragging, 00:11:01.96\00:11:03.73 and you feel like, you're very humble. 00:11:03.76\00:11:05.19 And that's a blessed thing to be humble. 00:11:05.23\00:11:07.36 I appreciate and I love and respect your humility, 00:11:07.40\00:11:09.86 but we have to get the message out. 00:11:09.90\00:11:12.23 Because the people need to know 00:11:12.27\00:11:13.60 you're feeding those individuals. 00:11:13.64\00:11:15.00 So purchase a flip cam. 00:11:15.04\00:11:16.77 And you're really not, when you say what you're doing, 00:11:16.81\00:11:21.14 that's not bragging, it's saying 00:11:21.18\00:11:23.31 what services you offer, and how people 00:11:23.35\00:11:25.81 are taking advantage of those services. 00:11:25.85\00:11:27.92 So if you have an issue, 00:11:27.95\00:11:30.75 feeling like you're not being humble, 00:11:30.79\00:11:32.45 it's not about humility, 00:11:32.49\00:11:33.82 it's really about saying what you're doing 00:11:33.86\00:11:35.62 so that people know the services 00:11:35.66\00:11:36.99 that you provide, 00:11:37.03\00:11:38.36 so that they can avail themselves 00:11:38.39\00:11:41.00 of the service and support the service. 00:11:41.03\00:11:42.86 Absolutely. 00:11:42.90\00:11:44.23 Another tip is, 00:11:44.27\00:11:45.60 make sure you get video testimonies 00:11:45.63\00:11:47.74 from the people that you're serving. 00:11:47.77\00:11:50.01 The best marketing tool of any organization 00:11:50.04\00:11:54.14 are the people that you're helping. 00:11:54.18\00:11:55.71 I believe that. There's no... 00:11:55.74\00:11:57.08 I mean, you can get up 00:11:57.11\00:11:58.45 and you can be the best speaker in the world, 00:11:58.48\00:11:59.95 you can be the most charismatic dynamic speaker. 00:11:59.98\00:12:01.98 But if you're sitting back 00:12:02.02\00:12:03.35 and you have a veteran who used to be homeless, 00:12:03.39\00:12:05.35 that now has a home that wants to get on camera 00:12:05.39\00:12:07.32 and say, "This is what they did for me." 00:12:07.36\00:12:09.99 There's no better marketing tool in the entire. 00:12:10.03\00:12:13.80 Funders want to see that. 00:12:13.83\00:12:15.26 They want to see those testimonials. 00:12:15.30\00:12:16.93 They want to be a part of that. 00:12:16.97\00:12:18.50 When they see this youth aging out of foster care that now 00:12:18.53\00:12:21.90 because of what you did has a career in education, 00:12:21.94\00:12:25.94 has a job, 00:12:25.97\00:12:27.31 because you helped that individual 00:12:27.34\00:12:28.68 to get their life together. 00:12:28.71\00:12:30.05 A funder may be a bank, 00:12:30.08\00:12:32.85 or a financial institution, or a business. 00:12:32.88\00:12:36.28 They want to attach themselves to that message 00:12:36.32\00:12:38.55 because they want to be, so you know what? 00:12:38.59\00:12:40.26 They're doing some good work. 00:12:40.29\00:12:41.62 And we see this all the time, they're doing some good work. 00:12:41.66\00:12:43.32 Well, you know what? 00:12:43.36\00:12:44.69 Let me tie myself to that, 00:12:44.73\00:12:46.06 that funding that to that initiative, 00:12:46.09\00:12:48.00 because I want to fund it. 00:12:48.03\00:12:49.36 So now I can say I'm a part of it. 00:12:49.40\00:12:50.93 And they don't have to do the work to be a part of it. 00:12:50.97\00:12:52.60 They might have volunteers that 00:12:52.63\00:12:53.97 they can even lend to you in kind to help your initiative 00:12:54.00\00:12:56.54 because they want their employees to have. 00:12:56.57\00:12:58.64 Many banks now, this thing called CRA, 00:12:58.67\00:13:01.01 Community Reinvestment Act, where banks have to, 00:13:01.04\00:13:04.38 or they're mandated to make sure 00:13:04.41\00:13:06.51 they're giving back to the community 00:13:06.55\00:13:07.88 and they're using their CRA dollars. 00:13:07.92\00:13:09.78 Your organization and what they're doing, 00:13:09.82\00:13:11.92 might fall in line to those CRA initiative. 00:13:11.95\00:13:15.22 I've seen checks and I've gotten checks cut 00:13:15.26\00:13:16.93 5, 10, 20, 75, 100 grand cut, 00:13:16.96\00:13:20.60 just because the bank says 00:13:20.63\00:13:21.96 I want to be attached to that initiative. 00:13:22.00\00:13:23.33 Wow, you're doing some good work. 00:13:23.37\00:13:24.70 And I saw it. 00:13:24.73\00:13:26.07 Let me attach myself to that initiative. 00:13:26.10\00:13:27.60 So how do you find out about these programs 00:13:27.64\00:13:32.57 or grants or whatever that are available? 00:13:32.61\00:13:35.48 The resources that are available 00:13:35.51\00:13:36.95 to help fund your nonprofit? 00:13:36.98\00:13:38.51 That's a great question. There's a... 00:13:38.55\00:13:40.65 There are many different organizations. 00:13:40.68\00:13:43.39 As one organization, 00:13:43.42\00:13:44.75 and the name escapes me right now, 00:13:44.79\00:13:46.35 but it's the nonprofit. 00:13:46.39\00:13:49.26 The name escapes me. 00:13:49.29\00:13:50.63 I'll go ahead. 00:13:50.66\00:13:51.99 Well, we can, somebody can email you? 00:13:52.03\00:13:53.36 Yeah, absolutely. 00:13:53.40\00:13:54.73 dollarsandsense@3abn.org 00:13:54.76\00:13:56.97 And there's tons of grants and tons of niches out there. 00:13:57.00\00:13:59.63 And many banks again, there's a Wayne, 00:13:59.67\00:14:02.10 there in Detroit, 00:14:02.14\00:14:03.47 there's a Wayne County CRA Association. 00:14:03.51\00:14:05.17 They're seeing associations 00:14:05.21\00:14:06.98 all across the country of different banks 00:14:07.01\00:14:09.11 who come together to figure out 00:14:09.14\00:14:10.88 what are the different organizations 00:14:10.91\00:14:12.25 that we can support. 00:14:12.28\00:14:14.32 So networking, talking to your organization, 00:14:14.35\00:14:16.79 and please go to Dare to Dream Network. 00:14:16.82\00:14:18.22 And we're going to be putting up tons of resources 00:14:18.25\00:14:20.06 where you can actually go and find out different grants 00:14:20.09\00:14:24.39 that are available on the website. 00:14:24.43\00:14:26.96 Yeah, that's great. 00:14:27.00\00:14:28.33 And when you apply for these things, 00:14:28.36\00:14:29.70 essentially what happens is that they're looking 00:14:29.73\00:14:31.30 for the work that you've done. 00:14:31.33\00:14:32.70 And by getting at YouTube channel, 00:14:32.73\00:14:34.60 getting at social media site and getting those videos up, 00:14:34.64\00:14:37.61 it leaves a footprint of your content. 00:14:37.64\00:14:40.21 And so that's, that's one of the best ways 00:14:40.24\00:14:42.58 to get at funders, okay? 00:14:42.61\00:14:44.41 Now, another tip is, we want to start blogging 00:14:44.45\00:14:47.65 about your experiences, 00:14:47.68\00:14:49.42 and regularly posting this piece on various sites. 00:14:49.45\00:14:51.92 I think the best entrepreneurs in the world are educators. 00:14:51.95\00:14:56.22 And I think that they use it as an app. 00:14:56.26\00:14:58.63 I think the benevolent marketing strategy, 00:14:58.66\00:15:00.36 no matter what nonprofit 00:15:00.40\00:15:01.73 or for profit is one of the best ways 00:15:01.76\00:15:03.43 in order to get your message out there, 00:15:03.47\00:15:04.93 but also to get clients. 00:15:04.97\00:15:06.37 What's the benevolent marketing strategy? 00:15:06.40\00:15:07.74 Great question. 00:15:07.77\00:15:09.10 The benevolent market strategy, when I was a financial advisor, 00:15:09.14\00:15:12.51 I would not go and ask for support, 00:15:12.54\00:15:15.98 I would not say, hey, you know what? 00:15:16.01\00:15:18.41 I need to get support from you, I want you to... 00:15:18.45\00:15:20.92 I want to make sure you can borrow money 00:15:20.95\00:15:23.35 for my services, I wouldn't say that. 00:15:23.39\00:15:26.02 I would teach about financial literacy. 00:15:26.05\00:15:27.82 I would give financial tips anywhere I could. 00:15:27.86\00:15:30.53 I would write about them, 00:15:30.56\00:15:31.89 I would blog about on different sites 00:15:31.93\00:15:33.26 about the different ways to improve your credit. 00:15:33.29\00:15:35.40 I would write about the different ways to invest. 00:15:35.43\00:15:38.13 And all these things that came around, essentially, 00:15:38.17\00:15:40.87 I started to educate individuals. 00:15:40.90\00:15:42.90 And as I was educating more and more individuals, 00:15:42.94\00:15:44.34 people say, you know, 00:15:44.37\00:15:45.71 you actually pretty smart about this stuff. 00:15:45.74\00:15:47.08 The number one question that I got always was, 00:15:47.11\00:15:49.04 "Do you know of a financial advisor?" 00:15:49.08\00:15:50.98 I said, "Well, I happened to be a financial advisor." 00:15:51.01\00:15:53.25 And so that's the way 00:15:53.28\00:15:54.68 I got business was just by educating 00:15:54.72\00:15:56.62 and using a very benevolent business model. 00:15:56.65\00:15:58.85 So in other words, what you're saying, 00:15:58.89\00:16:01.02 is you casting your bread upon the waters, right? 00:16:01.06\00:16:04.46 So you're just putting it out there giving free service. 00:16:04.49\00:16:09.03 But in so doing, people are drawn to you, 00:16:09.06\00:16:11.90 and then they ask you, can you recommend somebody 00:16:11.93\00:16:14.67 and you just happened to be that somebody. 00:16:14.70\00:16:17.21 And nonprofits could do the exact same thing. 00:16:17.24\00:16:20.18 You see when, if you're an organization 00:16:20.21\00:16:22.24 that helps veterans, 00:16:22.28\00:16:24.31 then you should be educating individuals 00:16:24.35\00:16:25.95 about the plight of veterans. 00:16:25.98\00:16:27.72 You should be that expert, 00:16:27.75\00:16:29.08 you should be that individual that says, 00:16:29.12\00:16:30.52 the VA just came out with a recent release. 00:16:30.55\00:16:33.15 And, you know, here's a homelessness 00:16:33.19\00:16:34.52 that we see within the veteran population. 00:16:34.56\00:16:36.42 Here is, if you are dealing 00:16:36.46\00:16:38.79 with youth aged out of foster care 00:16:38.83\00:16:40.26 or at risk youth in your community, 00:16:40.30\00:16:42.76 you should be that expert talking about it, 00:16:42.80\00:16:44.63 educating individuals about it. 00:16:44.67\00:16:46.00 So when, as soon as someone wants to figure out, 00:16:46.03\00:16:48.07 you know what? 00:16:48.10\00:16:49.44 We want to help this out. 00:16:49.47\00:16:50.81 They're gonna come to you 00:16:50.84\00:16:52.17 because they know you're the expert on that. 00:16:52.21\00:16:53.68 And they happen to know that 00:16:53.71\00:16:55.04 you also have an organization doing the exact same thing. 00:16:55.08\00:16:57.91 And so, that's one of the most brilliant ways 00:16:57.95\00:16:59.75 that I think that 00:16:59.78\00:17:01.12 we should start getting out them. 00:17:01.15\00:17:02.48 That's good. 00:17:02.52\00:17:03.85 Another good tip is to make sure 00:17:03.89\00:17:05.49 your website's up to date. 00:17:05.52\00:17:06.86 I can't tell you how many organizations 00:17:06.89\00:17:09.26 that I know that don't even have a website, 00:17:09.29\00:17:12.13 no excuse anymore, because now they have sites, 00:17:12.16\00:17:14.53 they can give you a free website. 00:17:14.56\00:17:16.53 Wix.com actually provides free website. 00:17:16.56\00:17:19.77 Trendsetters, another organization 00:17:19.80\00:17:21.50 that provides free websites. 00:17:21.54\00:17:23.30 And all these organizations... 00:17:23.34\00:17:24.67 What's the catch though, because nothing's free. 00:17:24.71\00:17:26.78 So what's the catch? 00:17:26.81\00:17:28.14 What happens is that 00:17:28.18\00:17:29.51 these organizations are out there 00:17:29.54\00:17:31.11 and the way that they get money, 00:17:31.15\00:17:32.61 well, they also have a paid for service attached to them. 00:17:32.65\00:17:34.55 Okay. 00:17:34.58\00:17:35.92 But they also use advertising dollar. 00:17:35.95\00:17:38.02 So when you're going to their site, 00:17:38.05\00:17:39.75 what happens is that they drive so much traffic 00:17:39.79\00:17:41.72 to that particular site, 00:17:41.76\00:17:43.49 that other people when you go there, 00:17:43.53\00:17:46.93 toothpaste or bank or something, 00:17:46.96\00:17:50.00 they want to get to you to click on their site. 00:17:50.03\00:17:52.50 So other advertiser, advertiser on their site, 00:17:52.53\00:17:54.87 so they can sense that 00:17:54.90\00:17:56.24 you're using the services and they, 00:17:56.27\00:17:57.67 most of them have a free option. 00:17:57.71\00:17:59.34 You can use their services for free. 00:17:59.37\00:18:00.71 But ideally, though, the advertisers want you 00:18:00.74\00:18:02.51 to click on their site and say, 00:18:02.54\00:18:03.88 "Hey, let me check out this car or this bank or whatnot." 00:18:03.91\00:18:06.65 In the meanwhile, you're getting a wix.com site. 00:18:06.68\00:18:09.18 I mean, when I first started my financial planning company, 00:18:09.22\00:18:11.42 that's where I went to first. 00:18:11.45\00:18:12.79 I was trying to save 00:18:12.82\00:18:14.16 a little bit of money at the time. 00:18:14.19\00:18:15.52 And so, I just open up a free website. 00:18:15.56\00:18:17.76 And so there are many different ways 00:18:17.79\00:18:19.73 that individuals can maximize the weight 00:18:19.76\00:18:23.60 and maximize the technology. 00:18:23.63\00:18:25.43 Another good tip that individuals should use 00:18:25.47\00:18:28.44 is making sure you can accept credit card donations. 00:18:28.47\00:18:31.57 You have to. 00:18:31.61\00:18:33.48 So, there's, paypal.com has a great service 00:18:33.51\00:18:38.05 where you can use a swipe, where you can swipe 00:18:38.08\00:18:39.91 and you can take credit card donations. 00:18:39.95\00:18:41.75 And that means you can do it internationally. 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.92 Exactly. 00:18:43.95\00:18:45.29 Because currency is different from country to country. 00:18:45.32\00:18:47.29 Right. 00:18:47.32\00:18:48.66 But PayPal, with PayPal, you can get, you know, 00:18:48.69\00:18:51.76 get the donation in your currency. 00:18:51.79\00:18:53.63 Exactly. 00:18:53.66\00:18:55.00 So, I mean, it ends up being in your currency. 00:18:55.03\00:18:56.36 Yeah. So PayPal has a great site. 00:18:56.40\00:18:58.23 Squareup.com has a great site. 00:18:58.27\00:19:00.80 And again, the people, 00:19:00.84\00:19:03.34 sometimes it's not necessarily that, 00:19:03.37\00:19:05.87 'cause nonprofits have to consider 00:19:05.91\00:19:09.11 the individuals out there as not lazy 00:19:09.14\00:19:12.01 but not as excited about the work as they are. 00:19:12.05\00:19:15.15 So you have to, nonprofits, 00:19:15.18\00:19:16.72 you have to put your mindset 00:19:16.75\00:19:18.25 into the perspective of individuals 00:19:18.29\00:19:20.79 wanting to have an easy and seamless way to donate. 00:19:20.82\00:19:24.63 And is it seamless for you to donate? 00:19:24.66\00:19:27.10 Is it seamless for you to go? 00:19:27.13\00:19:28.80 Do you have an internet portal where people can go? 00:19:28.83\00:19:31.67 I remember when, 00:19:31.70\00:19:34.04 some individuals are running for school board. 00:19:34.07\00:19:36.64 And I saw someone running for school board, 00:19:36.67\00:19:38.77 and I saw individuals running for politics 00:19:38.81\00:19:40.38 and someone asked me for donation. 00:19:40.41\00:19:41.94 I said, "Sure, I would love to donate. 00:19:41.98\00:19:44.41 Do you have a way 00:19:44.45\00:19:45.78 where I can do it over my phone? 00:19:45.81\00:19:47.15 Do you have a link?" He texted to me. 00:19:47.18\00:19:49.45 And he said, "Well, I don't have a link. 00:19:49.48\00:19:51.39 Can you go?" 00:19:51.42\00:19:52.99 Okay, you know, immediately, 00:19:53.02\00:19:54.72 automatically just, I got frustrated. 00:19:54.76\00:19:57.13 Because again, I've got, 00:19:57.16\00:19:58.49 I'm running this business doing that. 00:19:58.53\00:19:59.86 I'm here and there. 00:19:59.89\00:20:01.23 And I'll be happy to donate, but make it simple for me. 00:20:01.26\00:20:03.77 Right. I want to go to my phone. 00:20:03.80\00:20:05.13 And this is, 00:20:05.17\00:20:06.50 especially the millennial generation. 00:20:06.53\00:20:07.87 Millennials are all about ease and seamless. 00:20:07.90\00:20:11.77 I mean, someone said, 00:20:11.81\00:20:13.14 "Hey, many millennials don't even know 00:20:13.17\00:20:14.84 what a check is, you know, 00:20:14.88\00:20:16.24 so people say, send me a check. 00:20:16.28\00:20:17.85 They don't even know what checks are, 00:20:17.88\00:20:19.21 they don't know, 00:20:19.25\00:20:20.58 because they do everything on the internet. 00:20:20.62\00:20:21.95 So make it seamless, have a link, a website, 00:20:21.98\00:20:25.25 where you can go to that website 00:20:25.29\00:20:26.62 and just click on a button and donate. 00:20:26.65\00:20:29.22 And then also have products and services that 00:20:29.26\00:20:30.96 you can sell via the website as well. 00:20:30.99\00:20:33.53 I know many... 00:20:33.56\00:20:34.90 I mean, there are many nonprofits, 00:20:34.93\00:20:36.93 just because you're nonprofit doesn't mean 00:20:36.97\00:20:38.43 you can't sell things. 00:20:38.47\00:20:39.97 You just have to do things within the scope 00:20:40.00\00:20:41.37 and vision of your organization. 00:20:41.40\00:20:43.20 So what are some products and services 00:20:43.24\00:20:45.04 that you want to sell, 00:20:45.07\00:20:46.41 that you want to give to your organization, 00:20:46.44\00:20:47.78 that you can sell that you think are going 00:20:47.81\00:20:49.14 to empower your organization? 00:20:49.18\00:20:50.61 So again these are all just some basic tips and strategies 00:20:50.65\00:20:54.45 that I feel that 00:20:54.48\00:20:55.82 we should definitely be using for nonprofits. 00:20:55.85\00:20:58.35 This is so good, Ryan, 00:20:58.39\00:21:00.06 because especially that whole seamless thing, 00:21:00.09\00:21:03.29 because so many times, you know, 00:21:03.32\00:21:05.69 people want to donate. 00:21:05.73\00:21:07.10 And if it's too, I remember, 00:21:07.13\00:21:09.43 I was going to donate to some, 00:21:09.46\00:21:11.40 I don't remember which nonprofit was, 00:21:11.43\00:21:12.83 but I was gonna donate to somebody. 00:21:12.87\00:21:14.34 And I was trying to see where the donation place was. 00:21:14.37\00:21:18.67 And it just was too complicated. 00:21:18.71\00:21:21.64 And I'm not a millennial by any means. 00:21:21.68\00:21:23.35 But I like the seamless thing too, 00:21:23.38\00:21:25.38 because it's just easier. 00:21:25.41\00:21:27.22 So you want to go there, 00:21:27.25\00:21:28.58 you want to hit the button, donate, and that's it. 00:21:28.62\00:21:31.92 This was like really complicated. 00:21:31.95\00:21:34.39 And it's a turn off, 00:21:34.42\00:21:35.89 it's a turn off to potential donors, 00:21:35.92\00:21:37.76 because they're like, 00:21:37.79\00:21:39.13 I don't feel like doing all that. 00:21:39.16\00:21:40.50 Right. 00:21:40.53\00:21:41.86 Let me just hit the button, move the mouse. 00:21:41.90\00:21:43.50 That's why online banking is so crazy. 00:21:43.53\00:21:45.20 Exactly. 00:21:45.23\00:21:46.57 But you just want to move the mouse, 00:21:46.60\00:21:47.94 transfer the funds here, and boom, you can do that. 00:21:47.97\00:21:51.04 Another strategy I think that 00:21:51.07\00:21:53.27 nonprofits have to implement, 00:21:53.31\00:21:54.88 and I really want to emphasize this. 00:21:54.91\00:21:57.21 I mean, it talks about Psalms, 00:21:57.25\00:21:58.58 how sweet is when brothers dwell together in unity. 00:21:58.61\00:22:01.58 And that's scriptural. 00:22:01.62\00:22:03.69 I think we have to really understand 00:22:03.72\00:22:05.72 how as nonprofits 00:22:05.75\00:22:07.16 we should start working together. 00:22:07.19\00:22:09.69 And many nonprofits, and I'm sure that 00:22:09.72\00:22:13.56 the viewers can attest to this at home. 00:22:13.60\00:22:16.87 When you operate within a particular market, 00:22:16.90\00:22:19.77 if you happen to do something that is similar 00:22:19.80\00:22:22.64 to another organization in that particular market, 00:22:22.67\00:22:25.14 that automatically becomes if, and this is a negative thing. 00:22:25.17\00:22:29.24 But this level of animosity, oh, I do that, 00:22:29.28\00:22:32.55 or that's funding I should be getting, 00:22:32.58\00:22:34.48 or you're competing with me. 00:22:34.52\00:22:36.22 I think we got to get beyond that. 00:22:36.25\00:22:38.15 There's so much poverty to go around for everybody. 00:22:38.19\00:22:41.06 And we don't have to compete with one another, 00:22:41.09\00:22:44.09 we have to start... 00:22:44.13\00:22:45.46 When I was with Operation Hope, I would sit back. 00:22:45.49\00:22:50.40 And immediately what I would do 00:22:50.43\00:22:52.17 was look at every single organization 00:22:52.20\00:22:54.24 in that particular market. 00:22:54.27\00:22:56.04 And I would look and see 00:22:56.07\00:22:57.87 whether there something similar to what we do. 00:22:57.91\00:22:59.64 And I would call them. 00:22:59.67\00:23:01.01 The first thing I did when I went back to Detroit. 00:23:01.04\00:23:02.58 I called every single organization, 00:23:02.61\00:23:04.11 I did something similar. 00:23:04.15\00:23:05.48 Every single financial literacy organization, 00:23:05.51\00:23:07.48 every single entrepreneurship organization, 00:23:07.52\00:23:09.55 every single organization 00:23:09.58\00:23:10.92 I dealt with credit, credit pay, 00:23:10.95\00:23:12.29 anything eerily similar, exactly the same. 00:23:12.32\00:23:14.72 I called them up and we had a meeting. 00:23:14.76\00:23:16.49 I said, "What can we do to support you? 00:23:16.52\00:23:17.96 What can I do to support you? 00:23:17.99\00:23:20.36 What can we do to send some clients your way? 00:23:20.40\00:23:22.46 What can we do to help market you?" 00:23:22.50\00:23:23.90 And I said because I wanted them 00:23:23.93\00:23:25.27 to get to be real clear, 00:23:25.30\00:23:26.84 that it's not about me, this is about the work. 00:23:26.87\00:23:29.37 This is bigger than me. 00:23:29.40\00:23:30.74 And I know that if God has it for me, 00:23:30.77\00:23:33.74 I'm not concerned about anything, 00:23:33.78\00:23:35.48 about anybody taking it from me. 00:23:35.51\00:23:37.05 Yes. 00:23:37.08\00:23:38.41 And so I would give, and freely you have received, 00:23:38.45\00:23:40.45 freely you shall give. 00:23:40.48\00:23:41.82 And we made a practice of making sure 00:23:41.85\00:23:43.95 we just consistently gave and gave. 00:23:43.99\00:23:46.49 Every time we did a workshop, 00:23:46.52\00:23:47.86 we would invite other individuals there. 00:23:47.89\00:23:49.76 And we would always 00:23:49.79\00:23:51.13 give other people a platform via the radio. 00:23:51.16\00:23:53.23 And if I was ever doing television interviews, 00:23:53.26\00:23:55.30 I would always shout out every other nonprofit 00:23:55.33\00:23:57.87 doing similar work, so they would know. 00:23:57.90\00:24:00.70 I'm not concerned about giving you too much exposure, 00:24:00.74\00:24:04.07 because God's got a plan for me. 00:24:04.11\00:24:06.81 See, Ryan, that's it. What somebody... 00:24:06.84\00:24:10.25 God has a plan for each person, 00:24:10.28\00:24:11.91 so, whatever they have, praise the Lord for that. 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.98 That's it. Absolutely. 00:24:15.02\00:24:16.35 It's a blessing from God on their path. 00:24:16.38\00:24:19.85 God's given me my blessings, He's given you your blessings. 00:24:19.89\00:24:24.39 There's no reason to resent 00:24:24.43\00:24:26.19 somebody else for their blessings. 00:24:26.23\00:24:27.56 Right. Right. 00:24:27.60\00:24:28.93 One of the things that I love and this is not, 00:24:28.96\00:24:31.20 not to pat 3ABN on the back per se, 00:24:31.23\00:24:33.80 but it is a channel of blessing 00:24:33.84\00:24:36.57 because they highlight other ministries 00:24:36.60\00:24:41.11 and help raise funds for other ministries. 00:24:41.14\00:24:44.38 So to me, that's what God would have us to do. 00:24:44.41\00:24:48.18 Not, not, and I'm really thankful that 00:24:48.22\00:24:51.79 that's Danny's mindset to be a channel of blessing. 00:24:51.82\00:24:56.42 And so, other ministries come here 00:24:56.46\00:24:58.79 and we raise funds for whatever they're doing. 00:24:58.83\00:25:04.03 And it's just, it's a blessing. 00:25:04.07\00:25:05.50 And Lord consequently continues to bless 3ABN as well. 00:25:05.53\00:25:08.17 Right. 00:25:08.20\00:25:09.54 So what you're saying is so true. 00:25:09.57\00:25:12.07 Whatever somebody else's path and their blessing, 00:25:12.11\00:25:15.41 that's for them. 00:25:15.44\00:25:16.78 Right. God has His own plan for you. 00:25:16.81\00:25:19.78 And we help each other. You're right. 00:25:19.81\00:25:21.48 And I really, I think it speaks 00:25:21.52\00:25:24.29 to the bigger picture of our communities as a whole, 00:25:24.32\00:25:28.06 and how we operate 00:25:28.09\00:25:29.42 amongst our communities with each other. 00:25:29.46\00:25:31.69 Well, I know that 00:25:31.73\00:25:33.06 there's a lot of folks out there 00:25:33.09\00:25:34.43 who are struggling economically. 00:25:34.46\00:25:35.80 I know there are lot of individuals out there 00:25:35.83\00:25:37.17 who are just live in check to Tuesday. 00:25:37.20\00:25:40.07 And so there's a tendency to say, you know, 00:25:40.10\00:25:42.90 and this goes back to when we talk about tithing, 00:25:42.94\00:25:45.87 there's a tendency to say, 00:25:45.91\00:25:47.58 what's mine is mine and I'm so... 00:25:47.61\00:25:51.05 I'm not confident that 00:25:51.08\00:25:52.75 whether I'm gonna get another dollar, 00:25:52.78\00:25:54.12 I have to hold on to this data, like, it's my very last one. 00:25:54.15\00:25:56.62 Right. I can't tithe it to my church. 00:25:56.65\00:25:59.19 I can't help another organization 00:25:59.22\00:26:00.82 because I need it for myself. 00:26:00.86\00:26:02.36 I can't give to anyone. 00:26:02.39\00:26:03.96 I have to hold on it like it's the very... 00:26:03.99\00:26:05.49 And God doesn't want us in this predicament. 00:26:05.53\00:26:07.60 God does not want us with that mindset. 00:26:07.63\00:26:09.66 Freely you have received, 00:26:09.70\00:26:11.03 freely you shall give, cheerful givers. 00:26:11.07\00:26:13.94 So please, nonprofits, let's operate together. 00:26:13.97\00:26:16.67 Let's work together. Let's support our nonprofits. 00:26:16.71\00:26:19.71 And I think we'll do just that much better 00:26:19.74\00:26:21.54 in helping our economy recover. 00:26:21.58\00:26:23.61 Absolutely. 00:26:23.65\00:26:24.98 We should come together in unity. 00:26:25.01\00:26:27.42 Yeah. 00:26:27.45\00:26:28.78 And help others, help those who are less fortunate. 00:26:28.82\00:26:31.72 Absolutely. You have a takeaway for us. 00:26:31.75\00:26:34.86 I'm ready for it. All right. 00:26:34.89\00:26:36.62 Let's give it. 00:26:36.66\00:26:37.99 As the Word says, 00:26:44.97\00:26:46.30 "Let all things be done decently 00:26:46.33\00:26:47.87 and in order." 00:26:47.90\00:26:49.24 These tips and more are just a few suggestions 00:26:49.27\00:26:51.44 that can lead to increase visibility, 00:26:51.47\00:26:53.27 which can lead to increase dollars. 00:26:53.31\00:26:55.11 It hurts me to continue 00:26:55.14\00:26:56.48 to see people struggling to raise funds, 00:26:56.51\00:26:58.01 especially when they're doing such great work. 00:26:58.05\00:27:00.28 I don't want to see another leader of a nonprofit 00:27:00.32\00:27:02.38 have to close his or her doors, 00:27:02.42\00:27:03.99 because they don't have the money 00:27:04.02\00:27:05.35 to remain open to the public. 00:27:05.39\00:27:07.26 It's time for you to step up to the plate 00:27:07.29\00:27:09.32 and support those nonprofits you see doing a great work. 00:27:09.36\00:27:12.33 I'm very sympathetic to those nonprofits who say, 00:27:12.36\00:27:14.26 they're so busy doing work, they often forget to do 00:27:14.30\00:27:16.93 the crucial job of marketing their efforts. 00:27:16.97\00:27:19.10 If you see someone doing great work, 00:27:19.13\00:27:20.84 do more than give them a praise. 00:27:20.87\00:27:22.40 Give them a dollar. 00:27:22.44\00:27:23.77 Set up a regular donation schedule 00:27:23.81\00:27:25.34 to support their efforts 00:27:25.37\00:27:26.71 which are supporting your community. 00:27:26.74\00:27:28.38 If you have time 00:27:28.41\00:27:29.74 and really appreciate their mission, 00:27:29.78\00:27:31.11 I ask, join their board and offer your insight 00:27:31.15\00:27:33.28 and assistance to help grow the organization. 00:27:33.31\00:27:35.75 We need to help feed our children, 00:27:35.78\00:27:37.55 clothe the homeless, provide job training, 00:27:37.59\00:27:39.99 educate the former incarcerated, 00:27:40.02\00:27:41.79 fight against cancer, 00:27:41.82\00:27:43.16 and many services to those who lie beyond the scope 00:27:43.19\00:27:45.53 and reach of the government. 00:27:45.56\00:27:46.90 We need less talk and more action. 00:27:46.93\00:27:48.56 Let's get to work. 00:27:48.60\00:27:49.93 Be the change and remember, 00:27:49.96\00:27:51.37 the purpose of life is a life of purpose. 00:27:51.40\00:27:53.57 Dollars and Sense, signing off. 00:27:53.60\00:27:54.97
