Hello. 00:00:25.12\00:00:26.45 Once again, we welcome you to Daniel All Access, 00:00:26.49\00:00:28.96 our behind the scenes look at the Book of Daniel. 00:00:28.99\00:00:32.59 We've been seeking to ask not only the question what 00:00:32.63\00:00:35.70 but also the question why and sometimes, 00:00:35.73\00:00:38.07 who and how, as we look, behinds the scenes, 00:00:38.10\00:00:40.74 at this powerful book of prophecy 00:00:40.77\00:00:43.67 that has so much to say in these last days. 00:00:43.71\00:00:47.11 We've looked at Daniel, 00:00:47.14\00:00:48.51 and we've seen how God has blessed his life. 00:00:48.54\00:00:50.91 And we've taken out lessons for ourselves. 00:00:50.95\00:00:53.92 And tonight will be no different 00:00:53.95\00:00:55.85 as we take a look at Daniel 7. 00:00:55.88\00:00:58.89 We've entitled our message "Alpha Predators 00:00:58.92\00:01:02.22 and the Protestant Inconsistency." 00:01:02.26\00:01:05.16 "Alpha Predators 00:01:05.19\00:01:06.53 and the Protestant Inconsistency." 00:01:06.56\00:01:08.80 Join with me now in a word of prayer 00:01:08.83\00:01:10.70 as we open God's Word. 00:01:10.73\00:01:12.07 Father God, we do praise You 00:01:12.10\00:01:14.57 and thank You for the power of Your Word 00:01:14.60\00:01:17.94 and how this ancient book 00:01:17.97\00:01:21.08 has so much to say to us 00:01:21.11\00:01:24.28 in the latter stages of this earth's history. 00:01:24.31\00:01:29.35 There is so much that You want us to know 00:01:29.38\00:01:32.45 and so much that You want us to do 00:01:32.49\00:01:36.02 and so much that You want us to be. 00:01:36.06\00:01:40.10 Help us, Lord, to know and to do 00:01:40.13\00:01:43.97 and to be the kind of children that You can use. 00:01:44.00\00:01:49.00 Oh, Father, teach us this night. 00:01:49.04\00:01:51.14 Show us Your will for our lives, 00:01:51.17\00:01:53.07 fortify us for the trials which are sure to come 00:01:53.11\00:01:58.48 that we may be overcomers, that we may stand victorious 00:01:58.51\00:02:04.09 on the day we see You face to face. 00:02:04.12\00:02:07.59 We thank You, dear Father, in Jesus' name. 00:02:07.62\00:02:10.39 Amen. 00:02:10.43\00:02:12.83 Daniel 7 pivots 00:02:12.86\00:02:16.70 into full prophetic apocalyptic mode. 00:02:16.73\00:02:21.54 And although it appears that he is covering some 00:02:21.57\00:02:24.97 of the same material as Daniel 2, 00:02:25.01\00:02:27.51 and indeed he is, you will find 00:02:27.54\00:02:31.05 that a feature of Daniel is this particular idea 00:02:31.08\00:02:34.82 of what we call repeat and enlarge, 00:02:34.85\00:02:38.89 repeat and enlarge. 00:02:38.92\00:02:42.16 Whenever Daniel goes over 00:02:42.19\00:02:45.23 previously spoken of prophetic material, 00:02:45.26\00:02:48.73 he repeats it, but he also enlarges it. 00:02:48.76\00:02:53.67 I was telling someone just today, 00:02:53.70\00:02:55.60 I look at it much as Google Earth. 00:02:55.64\00:02:58.74 You know, when you have Google Earth 00:02:58.77\00:03:00.11 and you see a picture of a continent, 00:03:00.14\00:03:04.31 and you push in a little closer and you see cities 00:03:04.35\00:03:07.48 and you go a little closer and you see streets 00:03:07.52\00:03:10.69 and you push a little closer and you see houses 00:03:10.72\00:03:13.29 and you push a little closer 00:03:13.32\00:03:14.66 and you can actually see people on the lawn 00:03:14.69\00:03:16.89 and near those houses. 00:03:16.93\00:03:18.26 Well, that's what Daniel does. 00:03:18.29\00:03:20.10 Each time he goes over the material, 00:03:20.13\00:03:22.50 he gives you a little better view, 00:03:22.53\00:03:24.63 he gives you a little better view. 00:03:24.67\00:03:26.00 And we will see this in Daniel 11 00:03:26.03\00:03:28.90 in a very, very marked and dramatic way. 00:03:28.94\00:03:31.11 So it's called repeat and enlarge. 00:03:31.14\00:03:33.74 He does cover the same material, 00:03:33.78\00:03:36.04 but he gives you a little more depth. 00:03:36.08\00:03:38.78 He magnifies it a little more. 00:03:38.81\00:03:40.85 He gives you a little more information. 00:03:40.88\00:03:42.72 He shines the light a little brighter 00:03:42.75\00:03:45.05 every time he goes over material. 00:03:45.09\00:03:48.92 So Daniel 2 is the world viewed through naked eyes. 00:03:48.96\00:03:53.43 Daniel 7 now is that same world with reading glasses on. 00:03:53.46\00:03:59.40 And Daniel 11, actually, is that same material 00:03:59.43\00:04:02.74 under a microscope, and we'll see that coming up 00:04:02.77\00:04:06.31 in our lectures that come in just a little bit. 00:04:06.34\00:04:09.94 So he repeats and he enlarges. 00:04:09.98\00:04:13.78 Daniel 11 is going to be a fun chapter 00:04:13.82\00:04:17.62 that we will get to in just a little bit. 00:04:17.65\00:04:20.19 It's entitled the train is on the tracks. 00:04:20.22\00:04:22.86 So we want you to look out for that. 00:04:22.89\00:04:24.99 So we will see the same history that we saw on Daniel 2, 00:04:25.03\00:04:29.76 but we see it with greater clarity. 00:04:29.80\00:04:32.23 We'll see it again in Daniel 8. 00:04:32.27\00:04:34.17 We'll see it again in Daniel 9. 00:04:34.20\00:04:35.54 We'll see it again in Daniel 11. 00:04:35.57\00:04:39.24 So we see the same material, 00:04:39.27\00:04:43.61 but this time, 00:04:43.65\00:04:45.71 we actually get the help of an angelic tutor. 00:04:45.75\00:04:49.72 So we're gonna get homeschooled by an angel. 00:04:49.75\00:04:52.85 Notice, we are going back in time. 00:04:52.89\00:04:57.33 We are going back to the first year 00:04:57.36\00:04:59.69 of Belshazzar's reign. 00:04:59.73\00:05:01.10 So, we're going back, previous to Daniel 5 and 6. 00:05:01.13\00:05:06.77 Nebuchadnezzar's reign, of course, was 40 years. 00:05:06.80\00:05:10.07 And we ended that in Daniel 4. 00:05:10.11\00:05:14.74 Daniel 2 took place at the second year 00:05:14.78\00:05:18.05 of Nebuchadnezzar's reign. 00:05:18.08\00:05:19.71 So now we are dealing with events 00:05:19.75\00:05:21.68 that precede Daniel 5 and 6. 00:05:21.72\00:05:25.59 And we are at the behest of an angel instructor. 00:05:25.62\00:05:31.09 So we've got to go to school with Daniel, 00:05:31.13\00:05:33.70 and we've got to home school with Daniel. 00:05:33.73\00:05:36.93 Daniel now has a dream. 00:05:36.97\00:05:40.17 He states he had a dream. 00:05:40.20\00:05:41.80 And he wrote down the main points of that dream. 00:05:41.84\00:05:46.94 So when we interpret scripture, we do so literally 00:05:46.98\00:05:51.98 until we move into apocalyptic mode 00:05:52.01\00:05:55.58 and then things equal other things. 00:05:55.62\00:05:58.95 So we're moving into that mode now, 00:05:58.99\00:06:01.06 from the historical, the interpersonal, 00:06:01.09\00:06:04.43 to full apocalyptic mode. 00:06:04.46\00:06:06.53 Let's go to Daniel 7:2 because the Bible talks about 00:06:06.56\00:06:10.10 wars and strife, and school is now in session. 00:06:10.13\00:06:13.50 "Wars and strife mean political, 00:06:13.54\00:06:17.21 social, societal upheaval." 00:06:17.24\00:06:19.91 And I've given you some reference texts, 00:06:19.94\00:06:22.51 Jeremiah 49, Revelation, and Zachariah. 00:06:22.54\00:06:27.52 So when the Bible talks about wins and strife, 00:06:27.55\00:06:30.55 you know you're dealing with a situation of war, 00:06:30.59\00:06:33.39 of strife, of upheaval, 00:06:33.42\00:06:35.39 political war, sometimes spiritual conflict, 00:06:35.42\00:06:39.93 but a scene of turmoil and chaos. 00:06:39.96\00:06:42.86 And so what is happening here 00:06:42.90\00:06:45.87 in the early portions of Daniel 7, 00:06:45.90\00:06:48.87 war, strife, political chaos, 00:06:48.90\00:06:53.34 and we've given you the texts for that. 00:06:53.38\00:06:55.61 "The winds are striving upon the Great Sea." 00:06:55.64\00:06:58.21 And of course, the Great Sea is the Mediterranean. 00:06:58.25\00:07:01.25 And we've given you some background material 00:07:01.28\00:07:03.22 for that also. 00:07:03.25\00:07:04.59 Joshua 1:4, Numbers 34:6-7. 00:07:04.62\00:07:09.12 Don't have time to read all of those, 00:07:09.16\00:07:11.09 but this is your homework assignment. 00:07:11.13\00:07:13.13 You can look at those yourself. 00:07:13.16\00:07:15.26 They will assure you that we're talking about 00:07:15.30\00:07:17.50 the Mediterranean Sea. 00:07:17.53\00:07:18.87 So in short, Daniel is viewing war and strife, 00:07:18.90\00:07:24.34 conflict among nations that border the Mediterranean. 00:07:24.37\00:07:29.61 So we know the what 00:07:29.64\00:07:32.21 and we know the where. 00:07:32.25\00:07:36.05 Daniel sees four great carnivorous beasts. 00:07:36.08\00:07:40.06 I call them alpha predators. 00:07:40.09\00:07:41.79 These are top of the food chain beasts, 00:07:41.82\00:07:45.43 these are big cats, and a big bear, 00:07:45.46\00:07:49.53 and a beast that I call the iron teeth beast. 00:07:49.56\00:07:53.44 These are alpha predators. 00:07:53.47\00:07:56.87 They're on the sea. 00:07:56.91\00:07:59.17 So not only do we see political strife, 00:07:59.21\00:08:02.61 we also see military strife and military power. 00:08:02.64\00:08:07.38 Daniel 7:4, that first beast 00:08:07.42\00:08:11.99 in this particular scenario is a lion. 00:08:12.02\00:08:16.32 These empires super imposed their cultures over each other. 00:08:16.36\00:08:21.90 When one country captured another country, 00:08:21.93\00:08:24.37 they impose their culture on that second country. 00:08:24.40\00:08:27.50 And so Daniel 7:4 00:08:27.54\00:08:32.04 introduces us to the lion 00:08:32.07\00:08:34.34 which we know is analogous 00:08:34.38\00:08:36.14 to the golden head of the image in Daniel 2. 00:08:36.18\00:08:39.01 So we're talking about the empire of Babylon. 00:08:39.05\00:08:42.75 But here again, Daniel gives us more information 00:08:42.78\00:08:45.85 because Daniel says this lion undergoes a change 00:08:45.89\00:08:50.53 because it's a winged lion. 00:08:50.56\00:08:52.46 It undergoes what we call an anthropomorphic change, 00:08:52.49\00:08:56.50 which is a long 25-cent word, simply means 00:08:56.53\00:08:59.23 it gets human characteristics, 00:08:59.27\00:09:01.67 what was once a beast now becomes a man, 00:09:01.70\00:09:06.54 literally and figuratively. 00:09:06.57\00:09:08.71 It's talking about Nebuchadnezzar 00:09:08.74\00:09:10.55 because Nebuchadnezzar live seven years as a beast 00:09:10.58\00:09:13.55 and then came back to be a man. 00:09:13.58\00:09:15.35 But more than that, Daniel is giving us some clues 00:09:15.38\00:09:20.72 to the conversion and ultimate redemption 00:09:20.76\00:09:24.26 of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:09:24.29\00:09:25.86 He started out as an idol worshipper. 00:09:25.89\00:09:28.03 He started out as one who worshiped the gods of wood 00:09:28.06\00:09:31.07 and stone and gold and silver. 00:09:31.10\00:09:33.67 But before it was all over, he stood up like a man, 00:09:33.70\00:09:37.47 gave his heart to the Lord, and is a person. 00:09:37.51\00:09:41.38 Isn't it nice to know when you get to heaven, 00:09:41.41\00:09:43.65 one of the people 00:09:43.68\00:09:45.01 who will be in your neighborhood 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.88 will be King Nebuchadnezzar? 00:09:46.92\00:09:50.15 You can get to talk to him and ask him 00:09:50.19\00:09:51.95 what it was like to live and eat grass for seven years 00:09:51.99\00:09:54.56 and then come back to his kingdom 00:09:54.59\00:09:56.22 and have his kingdom there waiting for him. 00:09:56.26\00:09:59.33 So the Bible is saying here that this beast worshipper 00:09:59.36\00:10:03.97 becomes a man. 00:10:04.00\00:10:05.33 He gets eyes, he gets... 00:10:05.37\00:10:07.44 He gets saved. 00:10:07.47\00:10:11.91 And when did that happen? 00:10:11.94\00:10:13.54 When Nebuchadnezzar 00:10:13.58\00:10:14.91 surrendered himself to the Lord. 00:10:14.94\00:10:17.35 So in the first four verses of Daniel 7, 00:10:17.38\00:10:21.72 we actually get a summary of the first four chapters 00:10:21.75\00:10:26.55 of the Book of Daniel, 00:10:26.59\00:10:30.49 highlighted by the conversion of its greatest king, 00:10:30.53\00:10:34.93 Nebuchadnezzar. 00:10:34.96\00:10:37.13 Now we come to Daniel 7:5, 00:10:37.17\00:10:40.27 we go from the lion to the Medo Persian bear. 00:10:40.30\00:10:45.04 Now what is interesting, 00:10:45.07\00:10:46.41 again, we get a little more information. 00:10:46.44\00:10:48.78 The Median half is older, 00:10:48.81\00:10:51.18 but the Persian half is stronger, 00:10:51.21\00:10:53.62 which is why the bear has got 00:10:53.65\00:10:54.98 sort of a scoliosis kind of condition. 00:10:55.02\00:10:56.82 It's kind of up on one side, the Median half, 00:10:56.85\00:11:00.66 Media was an older country, 00:11:00.69\00:11:03.19 but the Persian half was stronger. 00:11:03.22\00:11:06.46 So he's on one side, and he, of course, 00:11:06.49\00:11:10.13 has three ribs in his mouth. 00:11:10.17\00:11:14.14 The three principal nations 00:11:14.17\00:11:15.77 conquered by the Medo Persian Empire 00:11:15.80\00:11:18.27 were Lydia, Egypt, 00:11:18.31\00:11:23.04 and Babylon itself. 00:11:23.08\00:11:25.85 Lydia, Egypt, and Babylon, 00:11:25.88\00:11:30.29 those are the three ribs. 00:11:30.32\00:11:32.82 Daniel 7:6, we see another big cat. 00:11:32.85\00:11:38.03 Daniel 7:6 Greece comes, which is a leopard. 00:11:38.06\00:11:43.67 Another big cat, an alpha predator. 00:11:43.70\00:11:46.77 A leopard with four wings and four heads. 00:11:46.80\00:11:50.21 Again, more information, the four wings 00:11:50.24\00:11:53.58 indicate the speed at which Alexander the Great 00:11:53.61\00:11:58.68 and the Grecian Empire was formed. 00:11:58.71\00:12:01.25 By the time he was 30 plus years of age, 00:12:01.28\00:12:04.15 he had conquered the then known world, 00:12:04.19\00:12:05.69 he had crossed the Indus River, 00:12:05.72\00:12:07.06 he had gone into India, he had gone 00:12:07.09\00:12:09.79 as far west as Greece, and Central Europe, 00:12:09.82\00:12:13.90 he had gone south into North Africa, 00:12:13.93\00:12:16.56 he had covered pretty much all he wanted to cover, 00:12:16.60\00:12:20.47 and all he could cover, 00:12:20.50\00:12:22.20 and then in a drunken stupor, suffering from malaria, 00:12:22.24\00:12:25.87 he died, four wings, but also four heads. 00:12:25.91\00:12:31.58 Alexander was a son of Philip of Macedon, 00:12:31.61\00:12:35.65 and he conquered the then known world at age 30. 00:12:35.68\00:12:41.06 It's an amazing feat, that at 30 years of age, 00:12:41.09\00:12:44.59 you've conquered just about everything 00:12:44.63\00:12:46.83 that you wanted to conquer. 00:12:46.86\00:12:48.20 You've done just about everything you've wanted to do. 00:12:48.23\00:12:53.34 So let's note 00:12:53.37\00:12:55.34 that each Empire increases in size. 00:12:55.37\00:12:59.17 The Babylonian Empire was fairly compact. 00:12:59.21\00:13:03.01 The Medo Persian Empire was fairly broad, 00:13:03.04\00:13:07.08 and the Grecian Empire was broader still. 00:13:07.12\00:13:10.99 But before his death, 00:13:11.02\00:13:12.85 Alexander summoned his four principal generals. 00:13:12.89\00:13:18.33 Cassander, who was given Macedonia, 00:13:18.36\00:13:21.96 Greece and the west, 00:13:22.00\00:13:25.10 Lysimachus, who was given Thrace, Bithynia, also called 00:13:25.13\00:13:29.94 Pergamum in the north, 00:13:29.97\00:13:32.34 Seleucus, who took Syria and the east 00:13:32.37\00:13:35.84 and all of us Seleucus kings 00:13:35.88\00:13:37.68 took the name Antiochus, 00:13:37.71\00:13:39.61 all of them were called Antiochus I, Antiochus II, 00:13:39.65\00:13:43.45 Antiochus III, Antiochus IV, or Antiochus Epiphanes. 00:13:43.49\00:13:47.16 They all took the name Antiochus, 00:13:47.19\00:13:48.82 they were eight Seleucus kings, all taking the name Antiochus. 00:13:48.86\00:13:54.23 And then of course, Ptolemy. 00:13:54.26\00:13:56.97 He took Egypt and the south. 00:13:57.00\00:13:58.90 Cleopatra was a Ptolemy. 00:13:58.93\00:14:01.67 And of course, there were several Cleopatras. 00:14:01.70\00:14:03.51 The Cleopatra that we all know of is Cleopatra number seven. 00:14:03.54\00:14:06.54 And when we get to Daniel 11, 00:14:06.57\00:14:09.78 we're gonna see a lot of interplay 00:14:09.81\00:14:12.41 between these four generals. 00:14:12.45\00:14:15.68 Daniel 11 really shines the light 00:14:15.72\00:14:17.99 on these four generals 00:14:18.02\00:14:19.45 and gives us much history. 00:14:19.49\00:14:21.16 And there's some interesting stuff 00:14:21.19\00:14:23.09 that went on between these four fellows. 00:14:23.12\00:14:26.93 So this leopard has four wings 00:14:26.96\00:14:31.10 and now four heads. 00:14:31.13\00:14:35.00 Then I suspect Daniel saw the beast 00:14:35.04\00:14:38.21 that caused him the most distress. 00:14:38.24\00:14:41.84 I call this beast the iron teeth beast 00:14:44.91\00:14:49.48 because it has no analogy in fiction 00:14:49.52\00:14:53.72 or in the real world. 00:14:53.76\00:14:55.09 Now I've seen it portrayed as a dragon. 00:14:55.12\00:14:58.09 Usually, some sort of cobbled together beast. 00:15:01.63\00:15:05.60 We don't know what he saw. 00:15:05.63\00:15:07.50 We know it had iron teeth and it had claws 00:15:07.54\00:15:11.07 and it ground down and stamped into powder 00:15:11.11\00:15:15.44 everything that opposed it. 00:15:15.48\00:15:18.01 It is an incredibly strong, vicious, unmerciful, 00:15:18.05\00:15:23.05 devouring beast that breaks into pieces 00:15:23.08\00:15:26.15 everything that opposes it and then stamps on the residue. 00:15:26.19\00:15:32.19 When the Roman armies attack a nation, 00:15:32.23\00:15:35.06 they either enslaved it or destroyed it. 00:15:35.10\00:15:38.60 And so this picture of this beast 00:15:38.63\00:15:40.87 is very, very accurate. 00:15:40.90\00:15:43.20 Rome's legacy 168 BC 00:15:43.24\00:15:47.58 to 476 AD, 00:15:47.61\00:15:50.98 just over 600 years. 00:15:51.01\00:15:53.25 By far the longest of the world kingdoms. 00:15:53.28\00:15:56.65 By far the largest of the world kingdoms. 00:15:56.69\00:16:00.16 And we saw the other day that the Roman Empire 00:16:00.19\00:16:03.36 went from east to west, north to south, 00:16:03.39\00:16:06.76 and even crossed over the English Channel 00:16:06.80\00:16:09.40 into Great Britain. 00:16:09.43\00:16:13.03 Then Daniel sees the Germanic tribes 00:16:13.07\00:16:17.07 that begin to encroach and invade on Roman territory, 00:16:17.11\00:16:22.51 breaking it into pieces. 00:16:22.54\00:16:25.01 Here they are, the Alamani, the Ostrogoths, the Visigoths, 00:16:25.05\00:16:30.79 the Franks, the Vandals, the Suevi, the Burgundians, 00:16:30.82\00:16:36.62 the Heruli, the Anglo Saxons, and the Lombards, 00:16:36.66\00:16:41.16 these Germanic tribes 00:16:41.20\00:16:44.30 began to encroach on the territory 00:16:44.33\00:16:47.60 of the Roman Empire. 00:16:47.64\00:16:50.07 And for a while, for a time, 00:16:50.11\00:16:52.07 Rome was able to withstand their forays, 00:16:52.11\00:16:54.94 but soon, the internal decay of the Roman Empire 00:16:54.98\00:17:00.48 began to show 00:17:00.52\00:17:01.85 and these dramatic tribes began to take large sections 00:17:01.88\00:17:05.85 of territory once ruled by Rome. 00:17:05.89\00:17:10.69 Daniel 7:8. 00:17:10.73\00:17:15.53 There comes from the head of this beast a small horn, 00:17:15.56\00:17:21.54 which displaces three of those horns. 00:17:21.57\00:17:24.31 Let's read it, "I was considering the horns, 00:17:24.34\00:17:27.21 and there was another horn, a little one, 00:17:27.24\00:17:30.51 coming up from among them, 00:17:30.55\00:17:32.35 before whom of the first horn... 00:17:32.38\00:17:36.22 before whom three rather of the first horns 00:17:36.25\00:17:39.29 were plucked out by the roots. 00:17:39.32\00:17:42.49 And there, in this horn, 00:17:42.52\00:17:45.96 were eyes like the eyes of a man 00:17:45.99\00:17:48.90 and a mouth speaking pompous words." 00:17:48.93\00:17:53.60 Now when you try to identify who and what this horn is, 00:17:53.64\00:17:58.47 there are some parameters 00:17:58.51\00:17:59.84 that you need to be governed by. 00:17:59.87\00:18:01.31 One, when you're trying to find out who this horn is, 00:18:01.34\00:18:05.95 there is no need to look in Asia, 00:18:05.98\00:18:09.95 Africa, or North America. 00:18:09.98\00:18:12.59 Amen. 00:18:12.62\00:18:14.06 That's because, the text says, the horn came up 00:18:14.09\00:18:19.59 out of the head of the first beast 00:18:19.63\00:18:23.43 and among the 10 horns. 00:18:23.47\00:18:26.13 So if the first beast is the Roman Empire, 00:18:26.17\00:18:31.47 then if you're trying to identify 00:18:31.51\00:18:34.61 who this horn is, 00:18:34.64\00:18:36.38 there's no need to look in China. 00:18:36.41\00:18:39.31 Amen. 00:18:39.35\00:18:40.68 There's no need to look in Africa, 00:18:40.72\00:18:43.12 there's no need to conjecture about North and South America 00:18:43.15\00:18:47.06 because the horn comes 00:18:47.09\00:18:49.12 from the head of the Roman Empire. 00:18:49.16\00:18:52.66 So whatever that horn is, it's got to be Roman. 00:18:52.69\00:18:56.90 Amen. 00:18:56.93\00:18:58.27 'Cause it's coming up out of the head, 00:18:58.30\00:18:59.73 it's coming up out of the seat of authority. 00:18:59.77\00:19:02.00 So if you're trying to identify who this beast is, 00:19:02.04\00:19:05.27 all you've got to do is go to your history book 00:19:05.31\00:19:08.14 and find out what came up 00:19:08.18\00:19:11.01 out of the seat of the Roman Empire. 00:19:11.05\00:19:14.58 Not that tough. 00:19:14.62\00:19:16.28 Out of the Roman Empire came the Roman Church. 00:19:16.32\00:19:20.76 Amen. 00:19:20.79\00:19:22.16 Now the Bible also says that it plucks up 00:19:22.19\00:19:25.36 three of those kingdoms. 00:19:25.39\00:19:27.50 Well, we know who those three kingdoms are, 00:19:27.53\00:19:29.63 the Heruli, the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths 00:19:29.66\00:19:33.64 were completely destroyed by the Roman armies 00:19:33.67\00:19:36.81 and never really got a chance to settle in. 00:19:36.84\00:19:39.57 What's interesting is that those three kingdoms 00:19:39.61\00:19:42.78 the Heruli, Vandals, Ostrogoths 00:19:42.81\00:19:45.45 embraced a theological concept called Arianism. 00:19:45.48\00:19:49.42 They all believed and taught 00:19:49.45\00:19:51.59 that Christ was a created being. 00:19:51.62\00:19:54.56 And somehow they developed this belief 00:19:54.59\00:19:59.33 and they were destroyed by the Roman armies 00:19:59.36\00:20:04.20 before they ever got a chance to take root. 00:20:04.23\00:20:06.77 And so today, there are no Ostrogoths, 00:20:06.80\00:20:09.80 there are no Vandals, there are no Heruli, 00:20:09.84\00:20:11.87 these other ten tribes are now the ten kingdoms of Europe. 00:20:11.91\00:20:15.91 You've got the Lombards, you've got the Italians, 00:20:15.94\00:20:19.98 you've got the French, you've got the Anglo Saxons, 00:20:20.02\00:20:22.38 you've got the Germans, you've got the Swiss. 00:20:22.42\00:20:25.59 They're all here today, but they are no Heruli, 00:20:25.62\00:20:28.96 there are no Vandals, there are... 00:20:28.99\00:20:34.03 No Heruli, that's it, no Heruli, no Vandals, 00:20:34.06\00:20:36.50 and no Ostrogoths. 00:20:36.53\00:20:38.73 So this horn get eyes and a mouth, 00:20:38.77\00:20:44.71 this is code for a new power 00:20:44.74\00:20:47.54 that will not be ruled by committee 00:20:47.58\00:20:50.71 but that will be ruled by a single person. 00:20:50.75\00:20:53.58 This is not a parliamentary system. 00:20:53.62\00:20:55.52 This is not a system 00:20:55.55\00:20:56.89 where people are voted in and out. 00:20:56.92\00:20:58.55 The Bible is telling us that this new entity 00:20:58.59\00:21:02.26 that comes from the head of the old Roman Empire 00:21:02.29\00:21:07.10 is gonna have one person sitting at the top. 00:21:07.13\00:21:11.10 And that one person will speak for this entity, 00:21:11.13\00:21:15.27 will be the power in this entity, 00:21:15.30\00:21:18.41 and will speak great words, 00:21:18.44\00:21:21.98 one man atop a system 00:21:22.01\00:21:25.61 that is going to speak pompous words. 00:21:25.65\00:21:31.65 Comes up from among the others, so we are talking about Europe, 00:21:31.69\00:21:35.69 it comes from the head of Pagan Rome, 00:21:35.72\00:21:38.89 and it uproots the Heruli, 00:21:38.93\00:21:40.73 the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths. 00:21:40.76\00:21:43.03 So when we take our time with prophecy, 00:21:43.06\00:21:45.43 it tends to make sense, it tends to fall apart 00:21:45.47\00:21:48.87 or build itself up on its own. 00:21:48.90\00:21:51.74 So the Bible is identifying not a person per se 00:21:51.77\00:21:56.04 but a position and a system, 00:21:56.08\00:21:59.98 a position and a system. 00:22:00.02\00:22:02.68 The position is head of the church, 00:22:02.72\00:22:06.05 the system is the ecclesiastical body 00:22:06.09\00:22:09.86 that came up after Pagan Rome fell to ashes. 00:22:09.89\00:22:15.30 So we're talking about an entity 00:22:15.33\00:22:19.40 that speaks pompous words. 00:22:19.43\00:22:22.67 Now the word for pompous in the Bible is "rabrab." 00:22:22.70\00:22:28.54 Interesting word. 00:22:28.58\00:22:29.91 It means huge in size and domineering 00:22:29.94\00:22:35.35 or dominating in character. 00:22:35.38\00:22:38.35 Very interesting. 00:22:38.39\00:22:39.72 The Bible is saying that this new entity 00:22:39.75\00:22:42.32 is going to be huge as far as its size is concerned, 00:22:42.36\00:22:47.13 as far as its control is concerned. 00:22:47.16\00:22:49.66 But it will also be dominating in character. 00:22:49.70\00:22:55.00 It's gonna be a bossy kind of a system. 00:22:55.04\00:22:59.57 It's gonna try to take control not only of what man does 00:22:59.61\00:23:04.11 but what man thinks. 00:23:04.15\00:23:07.62 History tells us that the entity that came up 00:23:07.65\00:23:11.42 out of the Pagan Roman Empire 00:23:11.45\00:23:15.32 was called the Holy Roman Empire. 00:23:15.36\00:23:20.53 The Pagan Roman Empire fell to be replaced 00:23:20.56\00:23:25.13 by the Holy Roman Empire, 00:23:25.17\00:23:28.30 in short, the Roman Universal Church 00:23:28.34\00:23:31.97 or the Roman Chthonic Church. 00:23:32.01\00:23:34.74 The Holy Roman Empire was an amalgamation of kings, 00:23:34.78\00:23:38.71 emperors, electors, and popes 00:23:38.75\00:23:42.85 that dominated the history of Europe 00:23:42.88\00:23:45.25 form the 6th century all the way down 00:23:45.29\00:23:48.52 to the 18th century, just after the 1,260 years, 00:23:48.56\00:23:53.70 which we'll talk about in just a minute. 00:23:53.73\00:23:56.36 So kings, emperors, electors, and popes 00:23:56.40\00:23:59.60 were in charge of the Holy Roman Empire. 00:23:59.63\00:24:02.50 For short periods of time, 00:24:02.54\00:24:04.41 the emperors and the electors took the lead. 00:24:04.44\00:24:08.64 But make no mistake about it, the power behind the church 00:24:08.68\00:24:13.38 from 538 to 1798, 00:24:13.42\00:24:16.25 that 1,260 year period was the man 00:24:16.28\00:24:19.85 who sat on the cathedral in Rome, 00:24:19.89\00:24:23.16 and that was the pope, 00:24:23.19\00:24:25.16 the head of the Catholic Church. 00:24:25.19\00:24:27.73 The Church insinuated itself 00:24:27.76\00:24:32.27 into every aspect of the medieval life. 00:24:32.30\00:24:36.07 The Church controlled how you ate, 00:24:36.10\00:24:39.44 the Church controlled what you drank, 00:24:39.47\00:24:42.41 the Church controlled how you lived, 00:24:42.44\00:24:45.51 the Church controlled your employment, 00:24:45.55\00:24:48.78 and they even tried to control what you thought. 00:24:48.82\00:24:54.02 European culture had one master, 00:24:54.06\00:24:57.23 it was ran from Rome, 00:24:57.26\00:25:00.93 and Rome insinuated itself into every aspect 00:25:00.96\00:25:05.90 of medieval Church life. 00:25:05.93\00:25:09.64 That's one of the things 00:25:09.67\00:25:11.01 that becomes very, very apparent 00:25:11.04\00:25:13.84 as we study Daniel 7. 00:25:13.88\00:25:18.25 So Daniel now gives us increased focus 00:25:18.28\00:25:21.88 on beast number four. 00:25:21.92\00:25:25.85 Daniel uses that term pompous words a number of time. 00:25:25.89\00:25:30.83 Daniel 7:8, Daniel 7:11, 00:25:30.86\00:25:35.73 Daniel 7:25. 00:25:35.76\00:25:38.67 He is begging the point, insisting on the fact 00:25:38.70\00:25:43.71 that this new entity 00:25:43.74\00:25:47.21 stands not necessarily for God 00:25:47.24\00:25:51.75 but off times in opposition to God. 00:25:51.78\00:25:55.22 And by the words that it speaks 00:25:55.25\00:25:57.95 and the way that it conducts itself, 00:25:57.99\00:26:00.99 it assumes many of the prerogatives of God. 00:26:01.02\00:26:06.66 Daniel 7:21, Daniel says, 00:26:06.70\00:26:09.66 "This same horn was making war 00:26:09.70\00:26:13.57 against the saints." 00:26:13.60\00:26:16.74 So make no mistake about it. 00:26:16.77\00:26:18.41 This is not a civil army. 00:26:18.44\00:26:20.91 This issue is a spiritual battle. 00:26:20.94\00:26:25.55 When we look at this new beast, 00:26:25.58\00:26:28.42 we are moving from physical conquest 00:26:28.45\00:26:32.15 to spiritual warfare. 00:26:32.19\00:26:34.36 The issue in Daniel 7 is not just physical conquest, 00:26:34.39\00:26:40.43 it is spiritual warfare. 00:26:40.46\00:26:43.06 And this horn is not fighting a nation or a kingdom 00:26:43.10\00:26:47.30 or even an ideology, 00:26:47.34\00:26:49.70 it's fighting against the saints of God. 00:26:49.74\00:26:52.27 And when you fight against the saints of God, 00:26:52.31\00:26:55.18 you are in effect fighting 00:26:55.21\00:26:57.18 against God himself. 00:26:57.21\00:27:01.45 So we are speaking about pompous words 00:27:01.48\00:27:03.99 and an entity that is wearing out 00:27:04.02\00:27:06.59 the saints of the Most High. 00:27:06.62\00:27:08.99 The Bible explains how this little horn power 00:27:09.02\00:27:12.39 virtually reigns unfretted and unchallenged 00:27:12.43\00:27:16.36 for a period of 1,260 years. 00:27:16.40\00:27:19.77 That's an awful long time. 00:27:19.80\00:27:21.94 Paul talk about him in 2 Thessalonians 2:4, 00:27:21.97\00:27:25.97 the Bible says, 00:27:26.01\00:27:27.34 "This power exalts himself above God, 00:27:27.38\00:27:30.81 sits in the place of God, in the temple of God, 00:27:30.85\00:27:34.22 claiming that he is God." 00:27:34.25\00:27:37.02 Now how do you do that? 00:27:37.05\00:27:39.25 You do that when you try to say that the things that God says 00:27:39.29\00:27:43.76 are important are not important. 00:27:43.79\00:27:46.29 You do that when you say the laws of God 00:27:46.33\00:27:48.76 are no longer 00:27:48.80\00:27:51.63 able to be kept 00:27:51.67\00:27:53.00 or even should be kept. 00:27:53.03\00:27:54.37 You do that when you try to take the prerogatives of God 00:27:54.40\00:27:59.67 and the power of God and apply it to yourself. 00:27:59.71\00:28:02.84 So this new exposition is telling us 00:28:02.88\00:28:06.61 what happens down in the ankles and toes 00:28:06.65\00:28:09.68 and feet of that image of Daniel 2. 00:28:09.72\00:28:12.82 It's explaining in greater detail 00:28:12.85\00:28:15.19 what we saw in Daniel 2 just prior to the second coming 00:28:15.22\00:28:20.50 of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 00:28:20.53\00:28:22.06 So the picture we get is one of... 00:28:22.10\00:28:25.30 is one of aggressive, 00:28:25.33\00:28:29.17 grinding persecution, 00:28:29.20\00:28:32.37 years of persecution, years of privation, 00:28:32.41\00:28:37.48 we get a picture of a power 00:28:37.51\00:28:40.72 that insinuates itself 00:28:40.75\00:28:44.05 into every aspect of life and controls that life 00:28:44.09\00:28:48.79 and grinds against the people of God, 00:28:48.82\00:28:51.53 even to the extent of coming to America. 00:28:51.56\00:28:55.86 The inquisition went as far as Goa, India, 00:28:55.90\00:29:01.74 and also came to America. 00:29:01.77\00:29:03.61 If you want to read interesting history, 00:29:03.64\00:29:06.21 look how the people see 00:29:06.24\00:29:10.58 ordered Spain and Portugal 00:29:10.61\00:29:14.15 to divide South America. 00:29:14.18\00:29:16.95 Why some countries are Portuguese, 00:29:16.99\00:29:18.55 some countries speak in Spanish, 00:29:18.59\00:29:20.06 that was done at the insistence of Rome. 00:29:20.09\00:29:25.59 You get this piece, you get that piece. 00:29:25.63\00:29:28.40 Very, very interesting history how the Church 00:29:28.43\00:29:31.13 even insinuated itself into South America. 00:29:31.17\00:29:35.60 I remember speaking with Malachi Martin. 00:29:35.64\00:29:37.74 That name may not be familiar to some of you. 00:29:37.77\00:29:39.87 He was a famous Jesuit scholar, 00:29:39.91\00:29:43.24 lived in New York, died in 1999. 00:29:43.28\00:29:47.18 We had a chance to meet at a local radio station 00:29:47.22\00:29:50.79 and had many, many talks. 00:29:50.82\00:29:53.79 He's written a number of book, 00:29:53.82\00:29:55.52 "Decline and Fall of the Roman Church," 00:29:55.56\00:29:57.16 "Keys of this Blood," 00:29:57.19\00:29:59.33 just a number of books, an outspoken Jesuit scholar. 00:29:59.36\00:30:02.83 And after having read his 00:30:02.86\00:30:04.57 "Decline and Fall of the Roman Church" 00:30:04.60\00:30:05.93 about 650 pages, Dr. Martin admitted to me 00:30:05.97\00:30:11.01 in private discussion how he felt his church 00:30:11.04\00:30:15.44 had done many, many wrong things 00:30:15.48\00:30:17.31 down through the middle ages. 00:30:17.35\00:30:19.71 I was meeting with him. 00:30:19.75\00:30:22.88 And we were gonna have a debate 00:30:22.92\00:30:24.25 on one of the local radio stations 00:30:24.29\00:30:27.26 in the New York City area. 00:30:27.29\00:30:28.69 And I came armed with all of this material 00:30:28.72\00:30:31.46 as to how the Catholic Church had done some of these things 00:30:31.49\00:30:34.33 in the Middle Ages, and I had facts and figures 00:30:34.36\00:30:38.30 from the Lutheran Church and other churches 00:30:38.33\00:30:40.94 how they say the Catholic Church, 00:30:40.97\00:30:42.94 during the Inquisition, was responsible for the death 00:30:42.97\00:30:45.37 of about 50 million people. 00:30:45.41\00:30:47.84 I came armed with my material and we sat down for the debate 00:30:47.88\00:30:51.01 and I hit him with my hardest salvo. 00:30:51.05\00:30:53.42 I said, "Well, my figures show that the Catholic Church, 00:30:53.45\00:30:58.25 through the Inquisition, was responsible 00:30:58.29\00:30:59.62 for the death about 50 million Protestants." 00:30:59.65\00:31:01.32 He said, "Oh, it's way more than that. 00:31:01.36\00:31:04.16 It's way more than that." 00:31:04.19\00:31:05.53 And he disarmed me right away. 00:31:05.56\00:31:07.33 He said, "Yeah. Everything is true." 00:31:07.36\00:31:08.83 He said, "We did." 00:31:08.86\00:31:10.20 But this is what he said, and we're gonna come back 00:31:10.23\00:31:12.33 to this in just a little bit. 00:31:12.37\00:31:13.70 This is what Malachi Martin famous Jesuit scholar, 00:31:13.74\00:31:16.00 said to me. 00:31:16.04\00:31:17.37 He said, "Sometimes mothers are little over zealous 00:31:17.41\00:31:22.34 in correcting their wayward children." 00:31:22.38\00:31:26.01 That was his statement, 00:31:26.05\00:31:27.38 statement of a famed Jesuit scholar. 00:31:27.42\00:31:30.62 He said, "Sometimes mothers can be a little over zealous 00:31:30.65\00:31:35.46 in correcting their wayward children." 00:31:35.49\00:31:39.43 Some scholars estimate 50 million. 00:31:39.46\00:31:42.20 Malachi Martin said, "Much more than that." 00:31:42.23\00:31:45.00 So he wasn't making an excuse. 00:31:45.03\00:31:47.24 He said, "Sometimes when you spank your children, 00:31:47.27\00:31:50.41 you spank them a little hard, 00:31:50.44\00:31:51.77 you spank them a little too hard." 00:31:51.81\00:31:54.31 But given all of the torture 00:31:54.34\00:31:57.55 and the millions of death 00:31:57.58\00:32:01.82 as sad as that was and as bad as that was, 00:32:01.85\00:32:07.36 perhaps the most audacious 00:32:07.39\00:32:10.66 aspect of papal intention 00:32:10.69\00:32:14.10 was to change times and laws. 00:32:14.13\00:32:18.67 And that's what Daniel 7 tries to stress in 00:32:18.70\00:32:24.44 its portrayal of this new beast. 00:32:24.47\00:32:28.81 What does that mean? 00:32:28.84\00:32:32.25 What does it mean to try to change 00:32:32.28\00:32:35.55 times and laws? 00:32:35.58\00:32:38.65 There is a wonderful book that is no longer in print 00:32:38.69\00:32:40.99 that I have in my library called, 00:32:41.02\00:32:42.62 "How the Pope became infallible." 00:32:42.66\00:32:46.16 And it deals with the changing of times and laws. 00:32:46.19\00:32:50.03 But in verse 25 of Daniel 7, 00:32:50.07\00:32:53.84 we see that statement made. 00:32:53.87\00:32:58.47 This new power, this horn will seek to change 00:32:58.51\00:33:04.45 times and laws. 00:33:04.48\00:33:07.78 This little horn 00:33:07.82\00:33:09.72 claims the prerogatives of God. 00:33:09.75\00:33:14.96 The question we need to ask, 00:33:14.99\00:33:17.26 what times and whose laws 00:33:17.29\00:33:20.93 is the Bible speaking off? 00:33:20.96\00:33:24.03 Well first we can discount man's laws. 00:33:24.07\00:33:26.53 Can you say amen? 00:33:26.57\00:33:28.24 Because man's laws change 00:33:28.27\00:33:33.17 like the wind. 00:33:33.21\00:33:35.58 Think of the number of times 00:33:35.61\00:33:36.95 that England as a country 00:33:36.98\00:33:38.31 went from catholic to protestant, 00:33:38.35\00:33:40.52 catholic to protestant, 00:33:40.55\00:33:41.88 depending on the king or the queen on the throne, 00:33:41.92\00:33:43.65 it went from catholic to protestant. 00:33:43.69\00:33:45.72 We now have, in the United States here, 00:33:45.75\00:33:48.72 the president can sign executive orders. 00:33:48.76\00:33:51.73 One president can sign an executive order that says, 00:33:51.76\00:33:54.73 "Yea." 00:33:54.76\00:33:56.10 And then the next president comes right behind them 00:33:56.13\00:33:57.70 and signs an executive order that says, "Nay." 00:33:57.73\00:34:00.57 So we're not talking about man's times and laws 00:34:00.60\00:34:03.71 because man's laws change with the whim of the person 00:34:03.74\00:34:06.84 who gets elected. 00:34:06.88\00:34:08.21 They are not permanent. 00:34:08.24\00:34:09.58 They are as ropes of sand. They're like the wind. 00:34:09.61\00:34:11.68 So when we talk about changing time and laws, 00:34:11.71\00:34:14.48 we've got about the church trying, 00:34:14.52\00:34:16.72 we've got to be speaking about the church 00:34:16.75\00:34:18.92 attempting to change God's times and God's laws 00:34:18.95\00:34:23.46 because it's only God's time and God's law 00:34:23.49\00:34:26.76 that really matter. 00:34:26.80\00:34:28.13 Amen? 00:34:28.16\00:34:29.50 Every time we amend the constitution, 00:34:33.47\00:34:35.10 it occurs to me, we change our own laws. 00:34:35.14\00:34:37.64 So we're talking about God's time, God's law. 00:34:37.67\00:34:41.54 Here's a text for you, Malachi 3:6. 00:34:41.58\00:34:44.61 The Bible says, "I am the Lord, I change not." 00:34:44.65\00:34:48.52 So God is not fickle. 00:34:48.55\00:34:50.59 God doesn't say one thing today 00:34:50.62\00:34:52.29 and then sign an executive order 00:34:52.32\00:34:53.99 and make it another thing tomorrow. 00:34:54.02\00:34:56.73 And the battle really is between earth and heaven. 00:34:56.76\00:35:02.20 So let's put that in context, 00:35:02.23\00:35:04.33 God's law is the Ten Commandments, amen? 00:35:04.37\00:35:07.70 We're talking about the law of God, 00:35:07.74\00:35:09.10 we're talking about the eternal law of God, 00:35:09.14\00:35:11.47 the law that is part of His character, 00:35:11.51\00:35:13.84 that's the Ten Commandments. 00:35:13.88\00:35:15.68 The only commandment that deals with time 00:35:15.71\00:35:18.68 is the fourth commandment. 00:35:18.71\00:35:21.85 The rest of the commandments are sort of do 00:35:21.88\00:35:23.59 and don't commandments that really deal 00:35:23.62\00:35:25.15 with interpersonal relationships 00:35:25.19\00:35:26.52 between humans and interpersonal relationships 00:35:26.55\00:35:28.82 between man and God. 00:35:28.86\00:35:30.66 The only one that deals with time 00:35:30.69\00:35:33.43 is commandment number four. 00:35:33.46\00:35:35.40 Now this is very, very important. 00:35:35.43\00:35:37.07 I'm gonna show you something in just a little bit. 00:35:37.10\00:35:39.23 So God's law, Ten Commandments, God's time, 00:35:39.27\00:35:43.27 the fourth commandment. 00:35:43.30\00:35:44.64 So then Daniel 7:25 identifies a power 00:35:44.67\00:35:49.48 that will attempt to change the Lord's Sabbath. 00:35:49.51\00:35:54.35 That's what Daniel 7:25 is saying. 00:35:54.38\00:35:57.12 This power is going to attempt to change God's holy Sabbath 00:35:57.15\00:36:03.69 because the Sabbath is the only part 00:36:03.73\00:36:06.26 of the Ten Commandments that deals with time. 00:36:06.29\00:36:12.43 The first change or the first attempt to change 00:36:12.47\00:36:15.50 began with the Edict of Constantine in 321 AD. 00:36:15.54\00:36:19.77 Now we're not gonna go through that 00:36:19.81\00:36:21.14 because many people have talked about that. 00:36:21.18\00:36:23.38 What the Edict of Constantine 321 AD did, 00:36:23.41\00:36:27.82 it decriminalised work on Sunday. 00:36:27.85\00:36:33.15 Prior to 321 AD, 00:36:33.19\00:36:35.96 Christianity was still a Religio Illicitus, 00:36:35.99\00:36:39.93 in other words, an illegal religion. 00:36:39.96\00:36:42.06 And the reason we know that it was an illegal religion 00:36:42.10\00:36:44.30 is because just 10 years before or less, 00:36:44.33\00:36:49.60 the Christian church went through 00:36:49.64\00:36:51.27 one of the worst times of persecution in its history 00:36:51.31\00:36:54.28 called the Diocletian Persecution. 00:36:54.31\00:36:57.01 Ten years of persecution under the Emperor Diocletian, 00:36:57.05\00:37:00.48 303 to 313, when Christians where 00:37:00.52\00:37:03.55 slaughtered by the tens of thousands. 00:37:03.59\00:37:07.42 So now after 313, in 321, 00:37:07.46\00:37:11.06 Constantine makes an edict 00:37:11.09\00:37:15.36 that decriminalizes work on Sunday. 00:37:15.40\00:37:19.30 It de facto recognizes Christianity, 00:37:19.33\00:37:23.94 turns it from a Religio Illicita 00:37:23.97\00:37:26.61 to a legitimate religion. 00:37:26.64\00:37:30.75 Most people know about 321. 00:37:30.78\00:37:33.05 I want to take you to the next big attack 00:37:33.08\00:37:37.69 on Christianity at the council of Laodicea 00:37:37.72\00:37:41.42 in 364 AD. 00:37:41.46\00:37:44.86 364 AD. 00:37:44.89\00:37:47.60 And I want to give you the language that was voted 00:37:47.63\00:37:50.03 by the church at the council of Laodicea 364 AD, 00:37:50.07\00:37:56.04 "Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday, 00:37:56.07\00:38:01.21 that is the Sabbath." 00:38:01.24\00:38:02.58 Judaizing meant just acting like a Jew 00:38:02.61\00:38:05.65 and doing nothing on Sabbath. 00:38:05.68\00:38:07.95 So they wanted you working on Sabbath. 00:38:07.98\00:38:11.65 A little bit later, something very interesting, 00:38:11.69\00:38:14.02 the Catholic Church actually instituted something 00:38:14.06\00:38:16.52 they called the Sabbath fast. 00:38:16.56\00:38:18.79 They made you fast on Sabbath to make it a day of drudgery, 00:38:18.83\00:38:22.80 and then they allowed you to feast on Sunday. 00:38:22.83\00:38:27.50 So you can't Judaize on Sabbath "but shall work on that day." 00:38:27.54\00:38:31.01 So they want you in the field work 00:38:31.04\00:38:32.44 and they want you working on that day, 00:38:32.47\00:38:34.84 "But the Lord's day 00:38:34.88\00:38:37.15 they shall especially honor and as being Christians shall, 00:38:37.18\00:38:42.02 if possible, do no work on that day. 00:38:42.05\00:38:47.32 If however they are found Judaizing, 00:38:47.36\00:38:50.83 they shall be cut off from Christ." 00:38:50.86\00:38:54.96 That's the Council of Laodicea, 364 AD. 00:38:55.00\00:38:59.00 In other words, 00:38:59.03\00:39:00.37 if they caught you not working on Saturday, 00:39:00.40\00:39:06.07 you were anathema, you were cut off from the Lord. 00:39:06.11\00:39:10.48 So this now is the first fully functioning edict 00:39:10.51\00:39:16.18 not only in favor of Sunday 00:39:16.22\00:39:19.22 but specifically against Sabbath. 00:39:19.25\00:39:23.16 Then in the 16th century, 00:39:23.19\00:39:26.73 the church found its philosophical mother load. 00:39:26.76\00:39:31.13 In the 16th century, 00:39:34.14\00:39:36.00 the Church convened an 18-year convocation called 00:39:36.04\00:39:41.28 the Council of Trent, T-R-E-N-T, 00:39:41.31\00:39:45.28 after the city in Northern Italy. 00:39:45.31\00:39:49.98 The Council of Trent took up 00:39:50.02\00:39:52.42 many, many doctorates. 00:39:52.45\00:39:56.46 But one of the things that it did 00:39:56.49\00:40:01.26 towards the end of the council 00:40:01.30\00:40:03.33 was address itself to the Sabbath. 00:40:03.37\00:40:08.40 Let me give you some of the words 00:40:08.44\00:40:11.11 of the hero of the Council of Trent, 00:40:11.14\00:40:14.24 his name was Archbishop Reggio 00:40:14.28\00:40:18.01 or the Archbishop of Reggio. 00:40:18.05\00:40:21.92 Here is what a Catholic Church discovered in 1551 00:40:21.95\00:40:28.16 right near the close of the Council of Trent. 00:40:28.19\00:40:32.39 "The written word explicitly enjoins 00:40:32.43\00:40:36.40 the observance of the seventh day." 00:40:36.43\00:40:39.57 Now that's the Catholic Church telling the truth 00:40:39.60\00:40:43.51 about the Sabbath. 00:40:43.54\00:40:45.11 "The written word explicitly enjoins 00:40:45.14\00:40:49.58 the observance of the seventh..." 00:40:49.61\00:40:50.95 In other words the Bible says, "Keep the Sabbath." 00:40:50.98\00:40:54.22 "As the Sabbath, 00:40:54.25\00:40:56.35 we do not observe the seventh day. 00:40:56.38\00:41:00.56 If they," that is protestants, 00:41:00.59\00:41:04.26 "do truly hold the scripture alone 00:41:04.29\00:41:07.23 as their standard, they would be observing 00:41:07.26\00:41:12.40 the seventh day as enjoined in the scripture throughout." 00:41:12.43\00:41:17.57 You see what he is saying? 00:41:17.61\00:41:18.94 He's saying if you really were Bible keepers, 00:41:18.97\00:41:22.11 you would be keeping the seventh day. 00:41:22.14\00:41:24.95 Now hold onto your hats, 00:41:24.98\00:41:26.31 here's how he uses that argument, 00:41:26.35\00:41:28.72 "Yet they only... 00:41:28.75\00:41:32.05 "Yet they not only reject the observance of the Sabbath 00:41:32.09\00:41:36.42 enjoined in the written word..." 00:41:36.46\00:41:38.13 So he's saying it again. 00:41:38.16\00:41:39.49 "Not only do you reject the Sabbath in the Bible, 00:41:39.53\00:41:42.73 but they have adopted and do practice 00:41:42.76\00:41:46.30 the observance of Sunday 00:41:46.33\00:41:49.07 for which they have only the tradition of the church." 00:41:49.10\00:41:52.91 Now look what he is saying. 00:41:52.94\00:41:55.41 He is saying, 00:41:55.44\00:41:57.21 "You say that you're Bible keepers, 00:41:57.25\00:42:00.62 but the day you're keeping..." 00:42:00.65\00:42:03.55 You will forgive my pejorative English, 00:42:03.59\00:42:05.49 eight in the Bible. 00:42:05.52\00:42:09.02 So you're keeping a day, and the only reason you have 00:42:09.06\00:42:15.03 for keeping that day is because we're telling you 00:42:15.06\00:42:17.97 to keep that day. 00:42:18.00\00:42:20.17 So you cannot really say you're Bible keepers. 00:42:20.20\00:42:24.37 Now this, this is very, very important, 00:42:24.41\00:42:26.27 this is very crucial, "Consequently," 00:42:26.31\00:42:28.98 he goes on, "the claim of scripture alone 00:42:29.01\00:42:32.98 as their standard falls and the doctrine of scripture 00:42:33.01\00:42:38.55 and tradition as essential is fully established." 00:42:38.59\00:42:43.43 He's weaving a pretty tight case here, 00:42:43.46\00:42:46.29 "The Protestants themselves being judges." 00:42:46.33\00:42:50.07 This was voted at the Council of Trent in spring of 1551. 00:42:50.10\00:42:55.90 It's a powerful, powerful argument. 00:42:55.94\00:43:00.08 Now the Augsburg Confession, 00:43:00.11\00:43:03.38 the Augsburg Confession was voted as the Catholic... 00:43:03.41\00:43:09.15 Sorry, the Protestant doctrine in 1530. 00:43:09.18\00:43:15.39 It was presented 00:43:15.42\00:43:17.86 to the Holy Roman Empire 00:43:17.89\00:43:23.57 elector in Germany, 00:43:23.60\00:43:26.84 Lutheran scholars put it together, 00:43:26.87\00:43:29.40 and before long, 00:43:29.44\00:43:31.11 all protestant denominations 00:43:31.14\00:43:33.61 accepted the Augsburg Confession. 00:43:33.64\00:43:36.21 I've read the Augsburg Confession, 00:43:36.24\00:43:38.18 the book in which it is written is 878 pages long. 00:43:38.21\00:43:42.12 It's got 28 different parts and each of the different parts 00:43:42.15\00:43:46.32 has about 20 different subtexts. 00:43:46.35\00:43:48.19 It's a long, long thing. 00:43:48.22\00:43:51.89 The Council of Trent calls 00:43:51.93\00:43:55.06 it the Protestant Inconsistency. 00:43:55.10\00:44:01.20 Here's their reason, the Augsburg Confession 00:44:01.24\00:44:06.71 states that Protestants 00:44:06.74\00:44:11.75 would accept and revere Sunday. 00:44:11.78\00:44:15.78 And all protestant churches 00:44:15.82\00:44:17.72 signed on to the Augsburg Confession. 00:44:17.75\00:44:22.36 It admits the observance of Sunday as the Lord's day. 00:44:22.39\00:44:28.40 So now Archbishop Reggio come along 21 years later 00:44:28.43\00:44:33.47 at the Council of Trent and says, 00:44:33.50\00:44:36.44 "Because of this one issue, 00:44:36.47\00:44:40.44 because of this one issue," he says, 00:44:40.48\00:44:44.41 "the entire Protestant reformation is nothing 00:44:44.45\00:44:48.82 more than an unwarranted revolt 00:44:48.85\00:44:53.96 against the mother church." 00:44:53.99\00:44:55.59 And that was voted at the Council of Trent. 00:44:55.62\00:44:58.09 And from that day to this, that shows 00:44:58.13\00:45:02.56 what the Catholic Church thinks of Protestantism. 00:45:02.60\00:45:08.67 It is an unwarranted revolt. 00:45:08.70\00:45:12.04 Why is it a revolt? 00:45:12.07\00:45:14.51 He says, 00:45:14.54\00:45:15.88 "Because you don't believe yourself 00:45:15.91\00:45:18.51 what you're teaching." 00:45:18.55\00:45:20.25 And it's a powerful argument. 00:45:20.28\00:45:22.52 He says, "You cannot believe what you're teaching 00:45:22.55\00:45:25.82 because the main argument of the Protestant reformation 00:45:25.85\00:45:31.86 was sola scriptura." 00:45:31.89\00:45:36.00 The Bible and the Bible only. 00:45:36.03\00:45:40.40 The main argument coming out of the Council of Trent 00:45:40.44\00:45:44.61 is that scripture and tradition are equal. 00:45:44.64\00:45:51.05 So how can you be sola scriptura 00:45:51.08\00:45:55.48 and keep a day which is not scriptura? 00:45:55.52\00:46:01.39 You understand that argument? 00:46:01.42\00:46:03.56 It is so powerful that every Catholic scholar 00:46:03.59\00:46:07.46 from that day to this has used that same argument. 00:46:07.50\00:46:11.60 Every one, you name them, Cardinal Gibbons, Albert Smith, 00:46:11.63\00:46:16.34 John Newman, Louis Gaston Segur, 00:46:16.37\00:46:20.08 Nathan Keenan. 00:46:20.11\00:46:22.81 All of the great theologians 00:46:22.84\00:46:27.22 have used that same argument 00:46:27.25\00:46:30.75 that you cannot be solo scriptura 00:46:30.79\00:46:33.79 because you're keeping a day that has no place in scripture. 00:46:33.82\00:46:39.26 We changed the day. 00:46:39.29\00:46:41.10 You're keeling our day 00:46:41.13\00:46:43.03 so you're not really Protestant. 00:46:43.06\00:46:47.17 And many Catholic theologies call it, to this day, 00:46:47.20\00:46:51.17 the Protestant inconsistency. 00:46:51.21\00:46:54.81 They say, "You cannot be sola scriptura 00:46:54.84\00:47:00.05 because you're keeping a day that is not in scripture." 00:47:00.08\00:47:02.82 I brought this up to Malachi Martin. 00:47:02.85\00:47:05.32 This Protestant inconsistency, 00:47:05.35\00:47:08.42 this idea that you cannot be sola scriptura and keep Sunday. 00:47:08.46\00:47:12.26 And here is what Malachi Martin told me face to face. 00:47:12.29\00:47:16.03 He said, "If you worship the day..." 00:47:16.06\00:47:20.14 "If you worship the Lord on the day designated 00:47:20.17\00:47:24.81 by the Catholic Church..." 00:47:24.84\00:47:27.28 "If you worship the Lord on the day 00:47:27.31\00:47:31.55 designated by the Catholic Church, 00:47:31.58\00:47:34.85 regardless of what 00:47:34.88\00:47:36.32 you call yourself, you are Catholic." 00:47:36.35\00:47:41.59 That's Malachi Martin. 00:47:41.62\00:47:43.96 It doesn't matter what your name is, 00:47:43.99\00:47:45.33 Baptist, Protestant, Presbyterian. 00:47:45.36\00:47:47.10 Doesn't matter. 00:47:47.13\00:47:48.46 If you're worshiping on the day that we designate, 00:47:48.50\00:47:51.67 you're Catholic. 00:47:51.70\00:47:53.90 And that is the mindset of the church to this day. 00:47:53.94\00:47:56.77 And that's why your hearing terms like erring brethren, 00:47:56.81\00:47:59.57 you know brethren that have departed. 00:47:59.61\00:48:01.14 You're still Catholic 00:48:01.18\00:48:02.51 because you're worshiping on our day. 00:48:02.54\00:48:04.15 Now that's not the Protestant argument, 00:48:04.18\00:48:06.58 it's not the Seventh-day Adventist argument. 00:48:06.61\00:48:08.75 It is the Catholic Church's theological context 00:48:08.78\00:48:12.12 form 1551 in the Council of Trent. 00:48:12.15\00:48:15.82 You're accepting our day, you are de facto Catholic. 00:48:15.86\00:48:22.30 And of all the dogma 00:48:22.33\00:48:24.10 coming from the Council of Trent 00:48:24.13\00:48:26.37 and they ratified many things, arguably, 00:48:26.40\00:48:29.67 the one that has the most far reaching effect 00:48:29.70\00:48:35.28 on how Catholic theologians view 00:48:35.31\00:48:37.85 and treat all Sunday-keeping Protestants is this idea 00:48:37.88\00:48:43.15 of the Protestant inconsistency. 00:48:43.18\00:48:47.26 They're saying, "You don't believe yourself 00:48:47.29\00:48:49.79 what you're teaching, you cannot 00:48:49.82\00:48:51.99 because you're keeping our day." 00:48:52.03\00:48:53.36 It's a very, very powerful argument, 00:48:53.40\00:48:55.63 and it is buttressed 00:48:55.66\00:48:57.27 by what the Bible says in Daniel 7, 00:48:57.30\00:49:00.64 "They will seek to change times and laws." 00:49:00.67\00:49:03.54 And then we find out in Revelation 00:49:03.57\00:49:05.31 that the whole world is moving in that direction. 00:49:05.34\00:49:09.54 That is why, ladies and gentleman, 00:49:09.58\00:49:11.55 the Counter Reformation was so vicious 00:49:11.58\00:49:15.48 and why the fires of the inquisition rage 00:49:15.52\00:49:18.22 for the next 400 years 00:49:18.25\00:49:21.12 because from the Catholic standpoint, 00:49:21.16\00:49:23.59 said Malachi Martin to me, "They were crushing 00:49:23.63\00:49:27.93 an illegitimate religion whose adherence not only 00:49:27.96\00:49:34.00 didn't believe what they taught, 00:49:34.04\00:49:36.44 they couldn't believe what they taught." 00:49:36.47\00:49:39.37 According to Malachi Martin, "They couldn't believe it 00:49:39.41\00:49:42.34 because their basic worship premise 00:49:42.38\00:49:47.42 did not come from the Word of God. 00:49:47.45\00:49:49.55 Many of the popes and leaders of the church 00:49:53.32\00:49:57.06 saw their persecution of Protestants 00:49:57.09\00:50:01.46 not as persecution but rather fumigation, 00:50:01.50\00:50:07.74 sterilization, ratification of a disease 00:50:07.77\00:50:13.88 that infected the holy mother church. 00:50:13.91\00:50:18.65 Protestantism in the middle ages 00:50:18.68\00:50:21.15 was for many not a rival religion 00:50:21.18\00:50:26.19 but a virus that needed to be cleansed. 00:50:26.22\00:50:31.19 That is why they took such extreme measures, 00:50:31.23\00:50:34.56 such ungodly measures, such horrific measures 00:50:34.60\00:50:38.27 in stamping out what they saw... 00:50:38.30\00:50:41.84 what they thought was an unnecessary revolt 00:50:41.87\00:50:46.31 that should have never taken place. 00:50:46.34\00:50:50.18 So groups like the Huguenots, the Albigenses, the Waldenses, 00:50:50.21\00:50:56.69 the Cathary, the Lombards, 00:50:56.72\00:51:02.12 the Anabaptists, the Jews... 00:51:02.16\00:51:05.56 I'm sorry, the Lollards, the new Christians 00:51:05.59\00:51:09.00 which were Sabbath keeping Christians 00:51:09.03\00:51:12.03 by the way were hunted down and destroyed 00:51:12.07\00:51:17.64 because the church thought 00:51:17.67\00:51:19.77 they were doing the work of God. 00:51:19.81\00:51:22.91 As far as India and in the east and Spain 00:51:22.94\00:51:29.15 and its colonies in the west, 00:51:29.18\00:51:32.85 the church thought its duty 00:51:32.89\00:51:37.46 to execute offenders. 00:51:37.49\00:51:40.90 The move to change God's Sabbath, 00:51:40.93\00:51:44.23 to change the times and laws of God 00:51:44.27\00:51:47.47 did not happen overnight. 00:51:47.50\00:51:50.51 It took centuries of force, coercion, 00:51:50.54\00:51:55.94 edicts, papal bulls 00:51:55.98\00:51:58.91 and disciplines to try 00:51:58.95\00:52:01.95 to get the Sabbath to go away. 00:52:01.98\00:52:06.12 But praise God after 100,000 Albigenses 00:52:06.15\00:52:10.49 were destroyed in a day and 70,000 Huguenots 00:52:10.53\00:52:15.50 destroyed in France, 00:52:15.53\00:52:17.63 and tens of thousands of Christians destroyed, 00:52:17.67\00:52:21.37 God's truth still marched on. 00:52:21.40\00:52:25.64 Amen. 00:52:25.67\00:52:27.01 Now let's look quickly before our time gets away 00:52:27.04\00:52:28.88 at the time period as spoken of in Daniel 7. 00:52:28.91\00:52:33.38 The Bible says that this persecuting power 00:52:33.42\00:52:36.35 would be in the ascendency times, 00:52:36.38\00:52:39.79 time, times and dividing or half a time. 00:52:39.82\00:52:43.46 So let's look at the numbers, looking at the day, year, 00:52:43.49\00:52:46.96 day principle, time, time, 360 day/years. 00:52:47.00\00:52:51.10 The Jewish year was 360 days, not 365. 00:52:51.13\00:52:55.97 Times is a multiplication of that, 00:52:56.00\00:52:58.47 times 2 or 720 day/years, 00:52:58.51\00:53:02.21 and half a time is 180 day/years. 00:53:02.24\00:53:06.48 We mark that from the year that Pope Leo crowned 00:53:06.51\00:53:12.62 Charlemagne head of the Holy Roman Empire 00:53:12.65\00:53:17.59 the same year that the Ostrogoths 00:53:17.63\00:53:19.69 were eradicated from Italy, the same year 00:53:19.73\00:53:24.83 that the Catholic Church began to function on its own, 00:53:24.87\00:53:29.64 the year 538 AD. 00:53:29.67\00:53:33.78 You add to that 1,260 years, 00:53:33.81\00:53:37.01 and you'll come up to 1798. 00:53:37.05\00:53:42.42 It was in that year that... 00:53:42.45\00:53:47.29 Alexander birth year, Napoleon's general went to Rome 00:53:47.32\00:53:52.73 and took the pope off his throne, 00:53:52.76\00:53:56.93 and a 1,260-year reign 00:53:56.97\00:54:00.47 of terror came to an end. 00:54:00.50\00:54:05.71 During that time, God's people stood up for Him 00:54:05.74\00:54:10.98 in marked and wonderful ways. 00:54:11.01\00:54:14.25 God's people were burned and hounded 00:54:14.28\00:54:19.19 and chased and weren't allowed to read the Bible. 00:54:19.22\00:54:24.19 They were persecuted 00:54:24.23\00:54:27.96 almost beyond reason. 00:54:28.00\00:54:31.27 And yet the truth of God stood strong. 00:54:31.30\00:54:36.17 Amen. 00:54:36.20\00:54:38.74 I'll say it again. 00:54:38.77\00:54:40.11 I said before rather and will say again. 00:54:40.14\00:54:43.18 God has always had His witnesses, always. 00:54:43.21\00:54:46.78 There have always been people 00:54:46.82\00:54:49.42 who were able to risk life and limb 00:54:49.45\00:54:55.79 and even liberty for the cause of Christ. 00:54:55.82\00:54:59.46 We don't know how many millions died 00:54:59.49\00:55:04.63 at the hand of persecution but God does. 00:55:04.67\00:55:09.24 Every name has been written down, 00:55:09.27\00:55:12.57 every face is marked in the mind of God. 00:55:12.61\00:55:17.21 And not one tear was shed 00:55:17.25\00:55:20.82 that wasn't written down in heaven. 00:55:20.85\00:55:23.45 That's why I am so thankful that at the end of that 00:55:23.49\00:55:28.29 wonderful faith chapter in the Book of Hebrews, 00:55:28.32\00:55:33.03 there is this text that says, 00:55:33.06\00:55:35.20 "They without us should not be made perfect." 00:55:35.23\00:55:40.77 Even those who suffered, when they get their reward, 00:55:40.80\00:55:46.71 you'll get your reward at the same time. 00:55:46.74\00:55:49.84 We'll all go in together. 00:55:49.88\00:55:52.95 My prayer is that we all stand for the Lord. 00:55:52.98\00:55:57.19 Our faith will be tested. 00:55:57.22\00:55:58.75 Oh, yes, it will be. 00:55:58.79\00:56:01.46 But the same God who was with those 00:56:01.49\00:56:04.93 wonderful saints of old is with us here today. 00:56:04.96\00:56:08.53 Amen. 00:56:08.56\00:56:09.90 He has not left us, He has not forsaken us, 00:56:09.93\00:56:13.87 and He guarantees that the children of God 00:56:13.90\00:56:18.51 will be victorious. 00:56:18.54\00:56:22.64 This is like the seal, the... 00:56:22.68\00:56:27.55 I'm trying to think of that person you go to the... 00:56:27.58\00:56:29.88 notary republic who gives you 00:56:29.92\00:56:31.59 that seal and makes it official? 00:56:31.62\00:56:33.66 That's what this last line is. 00:56:33.69\00:56:35.92 "For the mouth of the Lord has spoken." 00:56:35.96\00:56:41.23 That's a notary republic seal. 00:56:41.26\00:56:43.43 God say, "What I have told you, 00:56:43.47\00:56:46.84 I myself guarantee." 00:56:46.87\00:56:50.54 They will seek the changed times and laws, 00:56:50.57\00:56:53.17 they will seek to tell you what you can do 00:56:53.21\00:56:55.58 or even what you can think. 00:56:55.61\00:56:59.55 But have no fear, fear not. 00:56:59.58\00:57:03.65 God will bring forth our people. 00:57:03.69\00:57:07.39 And I wanna be in that number. 00:57:07.42\00:57:08.76 What about you? 00:57:08.79\00:57:10.99 And then He says, 00:57:11.03\00:57:12.93 "I'm guaranteeing you your deliverance. 00:57:12.96\00:57:17.00 You will make it through." 00:57:17.03\00:57:20.10 Why? 00:57:20.14\00:57:21.70 Because the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. 00:57:21.74\00:57:27.14 Amen? 00:57:27.18\00:57:28.51 Amen. And amen. 00:57:28.54\00:57:30.61
