Music... 00:00:01.73\00:00:25.55 Hello, once again we welcome you to Daniel All Access... 00:00:25.59\00:00:28.99 our behind-the-scenes look at the book of Daniel. 00:00:29.02\00:00:32.09 We've been seeking to ask not only the question "what" 00:00:32.13\00:00:35.26 but also the question "why" 00:00:35.30\00:00:37.17 and sometimes "who" and "how" 00:00:37.20\00:00:39.00 as we look behind the scenes at this powerful book of prophecy 00:00:39.03\00:00:43.41 that has so much to say to us in these last days. 00:00:43.44\00:00:47.14 We've looked at Daniel 00:00:47.18\00:00:48.51 and we've seen how God has blessed his life 00:00:48.54\00:00:51.15 and we've taken out lessons for ourselves 00:00:51.18\00:00:54.02 and tonight will be no different 00:00:54.05\00:00:55.88 as we take a look at Daniel chapter 7. 00:00:55.92\00:00:58.55 We've entitled our message 00:00:58.59\00:01:00.46 "Alpha Predators and the Protestant Inconsistency" 00:01:00.52\00:01:04.33 Alpha Predators and the Protestant Inconsistency. 00:01:04.36\00:01:08.13 Join with me now in a word of prayer 00:01:08.16\00:01:10.40 as we open God's Word. 00:01:10.47\00:01:12.10 "Father God, we do praise you and thank you 00:01:12.13\00:01:15.34 for the power of your Word 00:01:15.37\00:01:17.11 and how this ancient Book has so much to say to us 00:01:17.14\00:01:23.45 in the latter stages of this earth's history. 00:01:23.48\00:01:27.45 There is so much that you want us to know 00:01:27.52\00:01:31.45 and so much that you want us to do 00:01:31.49\00:01:35.22 and so much that you want us to be. 00:01:35.29\00:01:38.96 Help us Lord... to know and to do 00:01:38.99\00:01:43.23 and to be the kind of children that you can use. 00:01:43.26\00:01:47.97 Oh Father, teach us this night, show us your will for our lives 00:01:48.00\00:01:53.07 fortify us for the trials which are sure to come 00:01:53.11\00:01:57.58 that we may be overcomers, that we may stand victorious 00:01:57.61\00:02:03.35 on the day we see you face to face. 00:02:03.39\00:02:06.86 We thank you dear Father in Jesus' name, amen. " 00:02:06.89\00:02:10.79 Daniel chapter 7 pivots into full prophetic apocalyptic mode 00:02:10.83\00:02:20.04 and although it appears that he is covering 00:02:20.07\00:02:24.67 some of the same material as Daniel chapter 2... 00:02:24.74\00:02:27.44 and indeed he is, 00:02:27.48\00:02:28.91 you will find that a feature of Daniel 00:02:28.94\00:02:32.65 is this particular idea of of what we call 00:02:32.68\00:02:35.85 "Repeat and Enlarge" 00:02:35.88\00:02:38.55 "Repeat and Enlarge... " 00:02:38.59\00:02:41.52 whenever Daniel goes over 00:02:41.56\00:02:44.39 previously-spoken-of prophetic material, 00:02:44.43\00:02:48.90 he repeats it but he also enlarges it. 00:02:48.93\00:02:53.34 I was telling someone just today I look at it... I look at it... 00:02:53.37\00:02:56.20 much as Google Earth, 00:02:56.24\00:02:58.07 you know, when you have Google Earth 00:02:58.11\00:02:59.97 and you see a picture of a... a continent 00:03:00.01\00:03:04.01 and you push it a little closer and you see cities 00:03:04.05\00:03:07.25 and you go a little closer and you see streets 00:03:07.28\00:03:10.22 and you push a little closer and you see houses, 00:03:10.25\00:03:13.02 and you push a little closer and you can actually see people 00:03:13.05\00:03:15.52 on the lawn and near those houses. 00:03:15.56\00:03:18.13 Well, that's what Daniel does. 00:03:18.16\00:03:19.49 Each time he goes over the material, 00:03:19.53\00:03:21.90 he gives you a little better view... 00:03:21.93\00:03:24.00 he gives you a little better view 00:03:24.07\00:03:26.03 and we will see this in Daniel chapter 11 00:03:26.10\00:03:28.54 in a very, very marked and dramatic way. 00:03:28.57\00:03:31.17 So, it's called "Repeat and Enlarge" 00:03:31.21\00:03:33.78 it does cover the same material 00:03:33.81\00:03:35.28 but he gives you a little more depth... 00:03:35.31\00:03:38.48 he magnifies it a little more, 00:03:38.51\00:03:40.78 he gives you a little more information, 00:03:40.82\00:03:42.72 he shines the light a little brighter 00:03:42.75\00:03:45.65 every time he goes over material. 00:03:45.72\00:03:48.59 So, Daniel 2, is the worldview through naked eyes. 00:03:48.62\00:03:52.53 Daniel 7 now, is that same world with reading glasses on. 00:03:52.56\00:03:58.60 and Daniel 11 actually is that same material 00:03:58.63\00:04:02.47 under a microscope 00:04:02.50\00:04:04.21 and we'll see that coming up in our lectures 00:04:04.24\00:04:08.21 that come in just a little bit. 00:04:08.24\00:04:10.71 So, he repeats and he enlarges. 00:04:10.75\00:04:13.11 Daniel chapter 11 is going to be a fun chapter 00:04:13.15\00:04:17.62 that we will get to in just a little bit, 00:04:17.65\00:04:19.45 it's... it's entitled, "The Train is on the Tracks" 00:04:19.52\00:04:22.82 so we want you to look out for that. 00:04:22.86\00:04:24.26 So, we will see the same history that we saw in Daniel 2 00:04:24.29\00:04:28.73 but we see it with greater clarity... 00:04:28.76\00:04:31.33 we'll see it again in Daniel chapter 8, 00:04:31.37\00:04:33.37 we'll see it again in Daniel chapter 9, 00:04:33.40\00:04:35.50 we'll see it again in Daniel chapter 11. 00:04:35.54\00:04:37.41 Pause. 00:04:37.44\00:04:39.07 So, we... we... we see the same material 00:04:39.11\00:04:42.84 but this time... we actually get the help of an angelic tutor, 00:04:42.88\00:04:49.12 so we're going to get homeschooled by an angel. 00:04:49.15\00:04:52.05 Notice, we are going back in time, 00:04:52.09\00:04:55.92 we are going back to the first year of Belshazzar's reign 00:04:55.96\00:05:00.76 so we are going back previous to Daniel chapters 5 and 6. 00:05:00.80\00:05:05.53 Nebuchadnezzar's reign of course was 40 years 00:05:05.57\00:05:09.44 and we ended that in Daniel chapter 4. 00:05:09.47\00:05:12.41 Daniel chapter 2 took place 00:05:12.44\00:05:16.38 at the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, 00:05:16.41\00:05:19.35 so, now, we are dealing with events 00:05:19.38\00:05:22.45 that proceed Daniel chapter 5 and 6 00:05:22.48\00:05:25.29 and we are at the behest of an angel instructor. 00:05:25.32\00:05:29.32 So we got to go to school with Daniel 00:05:29.36\00:05:32.69 and we got to homeschool with Daniel. 00:05:32.73\00:05:36.03 Daniel now has a dream. 00:05:36.06\00:05:38.73 He states he had a dream 00:05:38.77\00:05:41.34 and he wrote down the main points of that dream. 00:05:41.37\00:05:46.27 So, when we interpret Scripture, we do so literally 00:05:46.31\00:05:51.18 until we move into apocalyptic mode 00:05:51.21\00:05:54.88 and then, things equal other things. 00:05:54.95\00:05:57.85 So, we're moving into that mode now... 00:05:57.89\00:06:00.76 from the historical... the interpersonal... 00:06:00.79\00:06:04.03 to full apocalyptic mode. 00:06:04.06\00:06:06.19 Let's go to Daniel chapter 7 verse 2 00:06:06.23\00:06:08.33 because the Bible talks about wars and strife 00:06:08.36\00:06:11.47 and school is now in session. 00:06:11.50\00:06:12.83 Wars and strife mean political, social, societal upheaval 00:06:12.87\00:06:19.67 and I've given you some reference texts... 00:06:19.71\00:06:22.31 Jeremiah chapter 49... Revelation and Zechariah. 00:06:22.34\00:06:26.38 So, when the Bible talks about winds and strife, 00:06:26.41\00:06:29.88 you know you're dealing with a situation of war... 00:06:29.92\00:06:33.32 of strife... of upheaval... 00:06:33.36\00:06:35.12 political war... sometimes spiritual conflict 00:06:35.16\00:06:39.53 but a scene of turmoil and chaos 00:06:39.56\00:06:42.60 and so, what is happening here in early... 00:06:42.66\00:06:45.43 in the early portions of Daniel chapter 7, 00:06:45.47\00:06:48.20 war... strife... political chaos... 00:06:48.24\00:06:51.94 and we've given you the texts for that. 00:06:51.97\00:06:54.98 The winds are striving upon the great sea 00:06:55.04\00:06:57.98 and of course, The Great Sea is the Mediterranean 00:06:58.01\00:07:00.58 and we've given you some background material 00:07:00.62\00:07:03.28 for that also, Joshua chapter 1 verse 4, 00:07:03.32\00:07:05.92 Numbers chapter 34 verses 6 and 7. 00:07:05.95\00:07:08.96 We don't have time to read all of those 00:07:08.99\00:07:11.09 but this is your homework assignment, 00:07:11.13\00:07:13.19 you can look at those yourself. 00:07:13.23\00:07:14.96 They will assure you that we're talking about 00:07:15.00\00:07:17.27 the Mediterranean Sea. 00:07:17.33\00:07:18.67 So, in short, Daniel is viewing war and strife... 00:07:18.70\00:07:23.81 conflict among nations that border the Mediterranean. 00:07:23.84\00:07:28.84 So, we know the "what" and we know the "where" 00:07:28.88\00:07:34.52 Daniel sees four great carnivorous beasts... 00:07:34.58\00:07:40.19 I call them Alpha Predators. 00:07:40.22\00:07:41.79 These are top-of-the-food-chain beasts, 00:07:41.82\00:07:45.43 these are big cats and a big bear 00:07:45.46\00:07:49.20 and a beast that I call the iron-teeth beast, 00:07:49.23\00:07:52.97 these are... these are alpha predators. 00:07:53.00\00:07:55.07 They're on the scene. 00:07:55.10\00:07:58.34 So, not only do we see political strife, 00:07:58.37\00:08:02.18 we also see military strife and military power. 00:08:02.21\00:08:06.85 Daniel chapter 7 and verse 4. 00:08:06.92\00:08:10.29 That first beast in this particular scenario is a lion. 00:08:10.32\00:08:16.09 These empires super-imposed their cultures over each other 00:08:16.12\00:08:21.86 when one country captured another country, 00:08:21.90\00:08:24.37 they imposed their culture on that second country 00:08:24.40\00:08:27.27 and so, Daniel chapter 7 verse 4 00:08:27.30\00:08:31.54 introduces us to the lion which we know is analogous 00:08:31.57\00:08:35.14 to the golden head of the image in Daniel chapter 2 00:08:35.18\00:08:38.71 so, we're talking about the Empire of Babylon. 00:08:38.75\00:08:42.22 But here, again, Daniel gives us more information 00:08:42.28\00:08:45.62 because Daniel says... this lion undergoes a change... 00:08:45.65\00:08:50.03 because it's a winged lion, 00:08:50.06\00:08:52.16 it undergoes what we call an "anthropomorphic change" 00:08:52.19\00:08:56.43 which is a long 25-cent word... 00:08:56.46\00:08:58.30 simply means... he gets human characteristics. 00:08:58.33\00:09:01.80 What was once a beast now becomes a man... 00:09:01.84\00:09:05.27 literally and figuratively. 00:09:05.31\00:09:08.14 It's talking about Nebuchadnezzar 00:09:08.18\00:09:10.15 because Nebuchadnezzar lived 7 years as a beast 00:09:10.21\00:09:13.35 and then, came back to be a man 00:09:13.38\00:09:15.08 but more than that, Daniel is giving us some clues 00:09:15.12\00:09:20.26 to the conversion 00:09:20.29\00:09:21.89 and ultimate redemption of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:09:21.92\00:09:25.63 He started out as an idol worshipper. 00:09:25.66\00:09:27.76 He started out as one who worshipped the gods of wood 00:09:27.80\00:09:31.13 and stone and gold and silver 00:09:31.17\00:09:33.44 but before it was all over, he stood up like a man... 00:09:33.47\00:09:37.37 gave his heart to the Lord and is a saved person. 00:09:37.41\00:09:41.28 Isn't it nice to know when you get to heaven 00:09:41.31\00:09:43.24 one of the people who will be in your neighborhood 00:09:43.28\00:09:46.58 will be King Nebuchadnezzar. 00:09:46.61\00:09:48.18 You can get to talk to him and ask him what it was like 00:09:48.22\00:09:52.52 to live and eat grass for seven years 00:09:52.55\00:09:54.22 and then come back to his kingdom 00:09:54.26\00:09:55.92 and have his kingdom there waiting for him 00:09:55.99\00:09:58.26 So, the Bible is saying here that this beast worshipper 00:09:58.29\00:10:03.53 becomes a man... he gets eyes, 00:10:03.57\00:10:05.83 he gets a... he... he gets saved... 00:10:05.87\00:10:09.40 pause 00:10:09.44\00:10:12.04 and when did that happen? 00:10:12.07\00:10:13.41 When Nebuchadnezzar surrendered himself to the Lord. 00:10:13.44\00:10:17.31 So, in the first four verses of Daniel chapter 7, 00:10:17.35\00:10:21.85 we actually get a summary of the first four chapters 00:10:21.88\00:10:26.35 of the book of Daniel, 00:10:26.39\00:10:28.82 highlighted by the conversion of its greatest king... 00:10:28.86\00:10:34.36 Nebuchadnezzar. 00:10:34.40\00:10:36.30 Now we come to Daniel chapter 7 verse 5. 00:10:36.36\00:10:39.73 We go from the lion to the Medo-Persian Bear. 00:10:39.77\00:10:44.67 Now, what is interesting... 00:10:44.71\00:10:46.11 again, we get a little more information 00:10:46.17\00:10:48.28 the median half is older but the Persian half is stronger 00:10:48.31\00:10:53.45 which is why the bear has got 00:10:53.48\00:10:54.88 sort of a scoliosis kind of condition... 00:10:54.95\00:10:56.85 he's kind of... up on one side 00:10:56.89\00:10:58.59 the Median half... Media was an older country 00:10:58.62\00:11:03.02 but the Persian half was stronger. 00:11:03.06\00:11:05.76 So, he's on one side and he, of course, has three ribs 00:11:05.79\00:11:12.27 in his mouth. 00:11:12.30\00:11:13.64 The three principal nations 00:11:13.67\00:11:15.84 conquered by the Medo-Persian Empire 00:11:15.87\00:11:20.51 were Lydia, Egypt and Babylon itself. 00:11:20.54\00:11:25.21 Lydia, Egypt and Babylon... 00:11:25.25\00:11:28.42 those are the three ribs. 00:11:28.45\00:11:31.52 Daniel chapter 7 verse 6 we see... another big cat... 00:11:31.55\00:11:37.93 Daniel chapter 7 verse 6... 00:11:37.96\00:11:39.46 Greece comes... which is a leopard... 00:11:39.49\00:11:42.03 another big cat... 00:11:42.06\00:11:44.13 an alpha predator... 00:11:44.17\00:11:46.20 a leopard with four wings and four heads. 00:11:46.23\00:11:50.14 Again... more information... 00:11:50.17\00:11:51.64 the four wings indicate the speed 00:11:51.67\00:11:55.14 at which Alexander the Great and the Grecian Empire was formed. 00:11:55.18\00:12:00.48 By the time he was 30 plus years of age, 00:12:00.52\00:12:03.15 he had conquered the then-known world... 00:12:03.18\00:12:05.69 he had crossed the Indus River had gone into India, 00:12:05.72\00:12:09.72 he had gone as far west as Greece and Central Europe 00:12:09.76\00:12:13.70 he'd gone south into North Africa... 00:12:13.73\00:12:16.23 he had covered pretty much all he wanted to cover 00:12:16.26\00:12:20.04 and all he could cover and then in a drunken stupor 00:12:20.07\00:12:23.77 suffered from Malaria... he died... 00:12:23.81\00:12:27.38 four wings... but also, four heads... 00:12:27.41\00:12:30.88 Alexander was the son of Philip of Macedon 00:12:30.91\00:12:34.85 and he conquered the then-known world at age 30. 00:12:34.88\00:12:39.42 It's an amazing feat that at 30 years of age, 00:12:39.45\00:12:43.96 you've conquered just about everything 00:12:43.99\00:12:46.26 that you wanted to conquer. 00:12:46.29\00:12:47.83 You've done just about everything you've wanted to do. 00:12:47.86\00:12:50.60 Pause. 00:12:50.63\00:12:53.13 So, let's note, that each empire increases in size. 00:12:53.17\00:12:58.51 the Babylonian Empire was fairly compact, 00:12:58.57\00:13:02.41 the Medo-Persian Empire was fairly broad 00:13:02.44\00:13:06.35 and the Grecian Empire was broader still 00:13:06.41\00:13:10.29 but before his death, 00:13:10.32\00:13:12.29 Alexander summoned his four principal Generals 00:13:12.35\00:13:16.93 Cassander... who was given Macedonia, Greece and the west, 00:13:16.96\00:13:23.23 Lysimachus or Lysimachus... 00:13:23.26\00:13:26.13 who was given Thrace/Bithynia... 00:13:26.17\00:13:28.74 also called Pergamum in the north, 00:13:28.77\00:13:31.27 Seleucus... who took Syria and the east 00:13:31.31\00:13:35.84 and all of the Seleucid kings took the name "Antiochus" 00:13:35.88\00:13:39.48 all of them were called Antiochus the 1st... 00:13:39.51\00:13:42.45 Antiochus the 2nd and Antiochus the 3rd 00:13:42.48\00:13:44.82 Antiochus the 4th or Antiochus Epiphanes... 00:13:44.85\00:13:47.12 they all took the name Antiochus... 00:13:47.16\00:13:48.92 there were eight Seleucid kings all taking the name "Antiochus" 00:13:48.96\00:13:54.30 then, of course, Ptolemy... he took Egypt and the south. 00:13:54.33\00:13:58.53 Cleopatra was a Ptolemy 00:13:58.57\00:14:01.20 and, of course, there were several Cleopatras. 00:14:01.24\00:14:03.34 The Cleopatra that we all know was Cleopatra number seven 00:14:03.37\00:14:06.41 and when we get to Daniel chapter 11, 00:14:06.44\00:14:09.31 we're going to see a lot of interplay 00:14:09.34\00:14:12.18 between these four Generals. 00:14:12.21\00:14:14.62 Daniel chapter 11 really shines a light on these four Generals 00:14:14.65\00:14:18.89 and gives us much history and there's some interesting stuff 00:14:18.92\00:14:23.12 that went on between these four fellows. 00:14:23.16\00:14:25.19 So, this leopard has four wings and now four heads. 00:14:25.23\00:14:33.74 Then, I suspect, Daniel saw the beast 00:14:33.77\00:14:37.77 that caused him the most distress. 00:14:37.81\00:14:41.74 Pause. 00:14:41.78\00:14:44.95 I call this beast the Iron-Teeth beast 00:14:44.98\00:14:49.58 because it has no analogy in fiction or in the real world. 00:14:49.62\00:14:54.92 Now, I've seen it portrayed as a dragon, 00:14:54.96\00:15:00.26 usually some sort of cobbled-together beast, 00:15:00.30\00:15:05.53 we don't know what he saw... we know it had iron teeth 00:15:05.57\00:15:08.97 and it had claws and it ground down 00:15:09.00\00:15:12.61 and stamped into powder everything that opposed it. 00:15:12.64\00:15:17.65 It is an incredibly strong, 00:15:17.68\00:15:20.05 vicious, unmerciful devouring beast 00:15:20.12\00:15:24.29 that breaks into pieces everything that opposes it 00:15:24.32\00:15:27.86 and then stamps on the residue... residue. 00:15:27.89\00:15:31.29 When the Roman armies attacked a nation, 00:15:31.36\00:15:34.73 they either enslaved it 00:15:34.76\00:15:36.73 or destroyed it 00:15:36.77\00:15:38.10 and so, this picture of this beast is very, very accurate. 00:15:38.13\00:15:42.24 Rome's legacy 168 B.C. to 476 A.D. 00:15:42.27\00:15:49.71 just over 600 years 00:15:49.74\00:15:53.31 by far, the longest of the world kingdoms, 00:15:53.35\00:15:56.58 by far the largest of the world kingdoms 00:15:56.62\00:15:59.75 and we saw the other day that the Roman Empire 00:15:59.82\00:16:03.19 went from East to West... North to South... 00:16:03.22\00:16:06.23 and even crossed over the English Channel 00:16:06.26\00:16:09.23 into Great Britain. 00:16:09.26\00:16:10.93 Pause. 00:16:10.97\00:16:12.80 Then, Daniel sees the Germanic tribes that begin to encroach 00:16:12.83\00:16:18.87 and invade on Roman territory 00:16:18.91\00:16:21.94 breaking it into pieces. 00:16:21.98\00:16:24.61 Here they are, the Alamanni... 00:16:24.65\00:16:27.45 the Ostrogoth's... the Visigoths... 00:16:27.48\00:16:30.22 the Franks... the Vandals... 00:16:30.29\00:16:33.25 the Suevi... the Burgundians... 00:16:33.29\00:16:36.49 the Heruli... the Anglo Saxons... 00:16:36.52\00:16:39.66 and the Lombard's. 00:16:39.69\00:16:41.16 These Germanic tribes began to encroach on the territory 00:16:41.20\00:16:47.14 of the Roman Empire 00:16:47.17\00:16:49.90 and for a while... for a time... 00:16:49.94\00:16:51.77 Rome was able to withstand their forays 00:16:51.81\00:16:54.81 but soon the internal decay of the Roman Empire began to show 00:16:54.84\00:17:01.32 and these Germanic tribes 00:17:01.35\00:17:03.55 began to take large sections of territory 00:17:03.59\00:17:06.65 once ruled by Rome. 00:17:06.69\00:17:08.79 Pause. 00:17:08.82\00:17:10.63 Daniel chapter 7 verse 8... 00:17:10.66\00:17:13.29 there comes from the head of this beast 00:17:13.33\00:17:18.77 a small horn which displaces three of those horns, 00:17:18.80\00:17:24.21 let's read it, "I was considering the horns, 00:17:24.24\00:17:27.04 and there was another horn, a little one, 00:17:27.08\00:17:29.84 coming up from among them, 00:17:29.88\00:17:31.95 before whom... of the first horn... 00:17:31.98\00:17:34.88 before whom three... rather... 00:17:34.92\00:17:37.75 of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. 00:17:37.79\00:17:41.69 And there, in this horn, 00:17:41.72\00:17:45.43 were eyes like the eyes of a man, 00:17:45.46\00:17:48.80 and a mouth speaking pompous words. 00:17:48.86\00:17:52.17 Pause. 00:17:52.20\00:17:53.60 Now, when you try to identify who and what this horn is, 00:17:53.64\00:17:57.44 there are some parameters that you need to be governed by, 00:17:57.47\00:18:01.24 one, when you're trying to find out who this horn is, 00:18:01.28\00:18:05.75 there is no need to look in Asia, Africa or North America. 00:18:05.81\00:18:11.92 Amen. 00:18:11.95\00:18:13.29 That's because the text says, the horn came up... 00:18:13.32\00:18:18.93 out of the head of the first beast 00:18:18.96\00:18:22.76 and among the ten horns. 00:18:22.80\00:18:25.27 So, if the first beast is the Roman Empire, 00:18:25.30\00:18:30.17 then, if you're trying to identify who this horn is, 00:18:30.21\00:18:35.74 there's no need to look in China. 00:18:35.78\00:18:38.61 Amen. 00:18:38.65\00:18:39.98 There's no need to look in Africa. 00:18:40.02\00:18:42.45 There's no need to conjecture about North or South America 00:18:42.48\00:18:47.22 because the horn comes from the head of the Roman Empire. 00:18:47.26\00:18:51.96 So, whatever that horn is... it's got to be Roman, amen. 00:18:51.99\00:18:57.50 Because it's coming up out of the head... 00:18:57.53\00:18:59.83 it's coming up out of the seat of authority. 00:18:59.87\00:19:01.87 So, if we're trying to identify who this beast is, 00:19:01.90\00:19:04.87 all you've got to do is go to your history book 00:19:04.91\00:19:07.84 and find out what came up out of the seat of the Roman Empire. 00:19:07.91\00:19:13.45 Not that tough. 00:19:13.48\00:19:15.45 Out of the Roman Empire, came the Roman Church. 00:19:15.48\00:19:19.95 Amen. 00:19:19.99\00:19:21.32 Now, the Bible also says 00:19:21.36\00:19:23.79 that it plucks up three of those kingdoms... 00:19:23.83\00:19:26.49 well, we know who those three kingdoms are. 00:19:26.53\00:19:30.07 The Heruli... the Vandals... and the Ostrogoth's 00:19:30.10\00:19:33.50 were completely destroyed by the Roman armies 00:19:33.54\00:19:36.37 and never really got a chance to settle in. 00:19:36.40\00:19:39.17 What's interesting is that those three kingdoms... 00:19:39.24\00:19:42.71 the Heruli... Vandals... Ostrogoth's... 00:19:42.74\00:19:45.15 embraced a theological concept called "Arianism" 00:19:45.18\00:19:49.02 they all believed and taught that Christ was a created being 00:19:49.05\00:19:53.42 and somehow... they developed this belief 00:19:53.46\00:19:58.39 and they were destroyed by the Roman armies 00:19:58.43\00:20:02.63 before they ever got a chance to take root 00:20:02.66\00:20:06.20 and so, today, there are no Ostrogoth's... 00:20:06.23\00:20:09.70 there are no Vandals... there are no Heruli... 00:20:09.74\00:20:11.71 these other ten tribes are now the ten kingdoms of Europe, 00:20:11.74\00:20:15.94 you've got the Lombard's... you've got... 00:20:16.01\00:20:17.98 you've got the Italians... you've got the French... 00:20:18.01\00:20:20.98 you've got the Anglo-Saxons... you've got the Germans... 00:20:21.02\00:20:23.45 you've got the Swiss... 00:20:23.49\00:20:24.82 they're all here today but there are no Heruli... 00:20:24.85\00:20:28.69 there are no Vandals... 00:20:28.72\00:20:30.26 there are no Heruli... let's see... Heruli... 00:20:30.29\00:20:35.63 no Vandals and no Ostrogoth's. 00:20:35.66\00:20:37.43 So, this horns get... this horn gets eyes and a mouth 00:20:37.47\00:20:43.54 this is code for new power that will not be ruled by Committee 00:20:43.57\00:20:49.91 but that will be ruled by a single person. 00:20:49.94\00:20:53.15 This is not a parliamentary system, 00:20:53.18\00:20:55.52 this is not a system where people are voted in and out 00:20:55.55\00:20:58.05 the Bible is telling us that this new entity 00:20:58.09\00:21:02.22 that comes from the head of the old Roman Empire 00:21:02.26\00:21:06.39 is going to have one person sitting at the top 00:21:06.43\00:21:10.63 and that one person will speak for this entity... 00:21:10.67\00:21:14.84 will be the power in this entity... 00:21:14.87\00:21:17.77 and will speak great words. 00:21:17.84\00:21:21.18 One man... a top... 00:21:21.24\00:21:23.91 a System that is going to speak pompous words 00:21:23.95\00:21:29.18 pause 00:21:29.22\00:21:31.72 comes up from among the others... 00:21:31.75\00:21:33.36 so we're talking about Europe... 00:21:33.39\00:21:34.96 it comes from the head of pagan Rome 00:21:34.99\00:21:38.19 and it uproots the Heruli... the Vandals... 00:21:38.23\00:21:41.46 and the Ostrogoth's. 00:21:41.50\00:21:42.96 So, when we take our time with prophecy, 00:21:43.00\00:21:44.90 it tends to make sense... 00:21:44.93\00:21:46.60 it tends to fall apart or build itself up on its own. 00:21:46.63\00:21:51.04 So, the Bible is identifying not a person, per se... 00:21:51.07\00:21:55.44 but a Position and a System... 00:21:55.48\00:21:59.01 a Position and a System. 00:21:59.05\00:22:02.58 The Position is Head of the Church. 00:22:02.62\00:22:06.19 The System is the ecclesiastical body 00:22:06.22\00:22:09.72 that came up after pagan Rome fell to ashes. 00:22:09.76\00:22:14.73 So, we're talking about an entity 00:22:14.76\00:22:18.83 that speaks pompous words. 00:22:18.87\00:22:21.94 Now, the word for "pompous" in the Bible is "rabrab" 00:22:21.97\00:22:27.48 interesting word... 00:22:27.51\00:22:29.28 it means... huge in size 00:22:29.34\00:22:33.58 and domineering or dominating in character. 00:22:33.62\00:22:37.65 Very interesting. 00:22:37.69\00:22:39.15 The Bible is saying that this new entity 00:22:39.19\00:22:41.92 is going to be huge as far as its size is concerned, 00:22:41.96\00:22:46.43 as far... as far as its control is concerned, 00:22:46.46\00:22:50.23 but it will also be dominating in character. 00:22:50.27\00:22:54.57 It's going to be a bossy kind of a System. 00:22:54.60\00:22:58.87 It's going to try to take control 00:22:58.91\00:23:00.88 not only of what man does but what man thinks. 00:23:00.91\00:23:06.61 History tells us that the Entity 00:23:06.65\00:23:10.35 that came up out of the pagan Roman Empire 00:23:10.39\00:23:14.42 was called the Holy Roman Empire. 00:23:14.46\00:23:19.56 The pagan Roman Empire fell 00:23:19.59\00:23:23.30 to be replaced by the Holy Roman Empire, 00:23:23.37\00:23:27.54 in short, the Roman Universal Church 00:23:27.57\00:23:31.67 or the Roman Catholic Church. 00:23:31.71\00:23:33.64 The Holy Roman Empire was an amalgamation of kings, 00:23:33.68\00:23:38.15 emperors, electors and popes 00:23:38.18\00:23:42.02 that dominated the history of Europe from the sixth century 00:23:42.05\00:23:46.76 all the way down to the 18th century. 00:23:46.79\00:23:50.29 The Holy Roman Empire began with the inauguration 00:23:50.33\00:23:56.03 by Pope Leo of King Charlemagne of France in 538 B.C. 00:23:56.06\00:24:01.90 and it pretty much continued unabated till 1808 00:24:01.97\00:24:08.54 just after the 1,260 years 00:24:08.58\00:24:12.11 which we'll talk about in just a minute. 00:24:12.15\00:24:14.95 So, kings, emperors, electors and popes 00:24:14.98\00:24:17.59 were in-charge of the Holy Roman Empire 00:24:17.62\00:24:20.16 for short periods of time 00:24:20.19\00:24:22.79 the emperors and the electors took the lead 00:24:22.82\00:24:26.19 but make no mistake about it, the power behind the church 00:24:26.26\00:24:31.40 from 538 to 1798... that 1,260-year period 00:24:31.43\00:24:36.10 was the man who sat on the Cathedra in Rome 00:24:36.14\00:24:40.91 that was the Pope... the Head of the Catholic Church. 00:24:40.94\00:24:45.41 The church insinuated itself 00:24:45.45\00:24:49.25 into every aspect of medieval life. 00:24:49.28\00:24:53.12 The church controlled how you ate, 00:24:53.15\00:24:56.66 the church controlled what you drank, 00:24:56.69\00:25:00.03 the church controlled how you lived, 00:25:00.06\00:25:03.37 the church controlled your employment 00:25:03.43\00:25:06.23 and they even tried to control what you thought. 00:25:06.27\00:25:11.04 European culture had one Master, 00:25:11.07\00:25:14.94 it was run from Rome 00:25:15.01\00:25:18.55 and Rome insinuated itself 00:25:18.61\00:25:21.65 into every aspect of medieval church life. 00:25:21.68\00:25:27.26 That's one of the things that becomes very, very apparent 00:25:27.29\00:25:32.06 as we study Daniel chapter 7. 00:25:32.09\00:25:34.83 Pause. 00:25:34.86\00:25:36.60 So, Daniel now gives us increased focus 00:25:36.63\00:25:39.77 on beast number 4. 00:25:39.80\00:25:43.17 Daniel uses that term, "Pompous Words" 00:25:43.20\00:25:47.64 a number of times. 00:25:47.71\00:25:49.04 Daniel chapter 7 verse 8, Daniel chapter 7 verse 11, 00:25:49.08\00:25:53.75 Daniel chapter 7 verse 25. 00:25:53.82\00:25:56.69 He is begging the point... 00:25:56.72\00:26:00.09 insisting on the fact that this new entity 00:26:00.12\00:26:04.46 stands not necessarily for God 00:26:04.49\00:26:08.90 but oft times in opposition to God 00:26:08.96\00:26:12.50 and by the words that it speaks 00:26:12.53\00:26:16.00 and the way that it conducts itself, 00:26:16.04\00:26:18.74 it assumes 00:26:18.77\00:26:21.31 many of the prerogatives of God. 00:26:21.34\00:26:24.11 In Daniel chapter 7 verse 21, Daniel says, 00:26:24.15\00:26:27.48 "This same horn was making war against the saints. " 00:26:27.52\00:26:33.02 So, make no mistake about it, this is not a civil army, 00:26:33.05\00:26:38.66 this issue is a... a spiritual battle. 00:26:38.69\00:26:43.00 When we look at this new beast, 00:26:43.03\00:26:46.13 we are moving from physical conquest 00:26:46.17\00:26:50.04 to spiritual warfare... 00:26:50.07\00:26:52.31 the issue in Daniel chapter 7 is not just physical conquest... 00:26:52.34\00:26:58.61 it is spiritual warfare 00:26:58.68\00:27:01.02 and this horn is not fighting a nation or a kingdom 00:27:01.05\00:27:05.59 or even an ideology, 00:27:05.62\00:27:07.62 it's fighting against the saints of God 00:27:07.66\00:27:10.33 and when you fight against the saints of God, 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.93 you are in effect fighting against God Himself. 00:27:14.00\00:27:17.53 Pause. 00:27:17.57\00:27:19.73 So, we're speaking about pompous words 00:27:19.77\00:27:22.00 and an entity that is wearing out the saints 00:27:22.04\00:27:25.64 of the Most High. 00:27:25.67\00:27:27.01 The Bible explains how this little horn power 00:27:27.04\00:27:30.85 virtually reigns unfettered and unchallenged 00:27:30.88\00:27:34.62 for a period of 1,260 years... that's an awful long time. 00:27:34.65\00:27:39.49 Paul talks about him 00:27:39.52\00:27:41.56 in 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2 verse 4. 00:27:41.59\00:27:44.39 The Bible says... this power exalts himself above God, 00:27:44.43\00:27:48.56 sits in the place of God... in the temple of God 00:27:48.60\00:27:52.37 claiming that he is God. 00:27:52.40\00:27:54.57 Now, how do you do that? 00:27:54.60\00:27:56.74 You do that when you try to... 00:27:56.77\00:27:59.51 to say that... the things that God says are important 00:27:59.54\00:28:03.01 are not important. 00:28:03.04\00:28:04.38 You do that when you say... 00:28:04.41\00:28:05.95 the Laws of God are no longer able to be kept 00:28:05.98\00:28:11.05 or even should be kept. 00:28:11.09\00:28:12.45 You do that when you try to take the prerogatives of God 00:28:12.49\00:28:17.23 and the power of God and apply it to yourself. 00:28:17.26\00:28:21.46 So, this new exposition is telling us what happens 00:28:21.50\00:28:25.40 down in the ankles and toes and feet of that image 00:28:25.43\00:28:29.30 of Daniel chapter 2. 00:28:29.37\00:28:31.07 It's explaining in greater detail what we saw 00:28:31.11\00:28:34.68 in Daniel chapter 2 00:28:34.71\00:28:36.54 just prior to the second coming 00:28:36.58\00:28:38.91 of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:28:38.95\00:28:40.28 So the... the picture we get is one of... 00:28:40.32\00:28:45.22 is one of aggressive... grinding persecution. 00:28:45.25\00:28:50.39 Years of persecution... years of privation... 00:28:50.43\00:28:55.53 we get a picture of a power 00:28:55.56\00:28:58.23 that insinuates itself 00:28:58.27\00:29:02.34 into every aspect of life and controls that life 00:29:02.37\00:29:06.84 and grinds against the people of God 00:29:06.88\00:29:09.84 even to... to the extent of coming to America... 00:29:09.91\00:29:12.98 the... the... the Inquisition went as far as 00:29:13.01\00:29:16.08 Goa, India and also came to America. 00:29:16.12\00:29:21.59 If you want to read interesting history, 00:29:21.62\00:29:23.73 look how the Papacy ordered Spain and Portugal 00:29:23.76\00:29:31.77 to divide South America. 00:29:31.80\00:29:34.64 Why some countries are Portuguese... 00:29:34.67\00:29:36.91 some countries speak in Spanish 00:29:36.94\00:29:38.27 that was done at... at... at the insistence of Rome. 00:29:38.31\00:29:42.98 "You get this piece... you get that piece... " 00:29:43.01\00:29:46.38 very, very interesting history 00:29:46.41\00:29:48.32 how the church even insinuated itself into South America. 00:29:48.35\00:29:52.85 I remember speaking with Malachi Martin... 00:29:52.89\00:29:55.52 that name may not be familiar to some of you, 00:29:55.56\00:29:58.13 he was a famous Jesuit scholar... 00:29:58.16\00:30:01.66 lived in New York... died in 1999. 00:30:01.70\00:30:05.13 We had a chance to meet at a local radio station 00:30:05.17\00:30:08.70 and had many, many talks, 00:30:08.74\00:30:12.17 he has written a number of books... 00:30:12.21\00:30:13.68 "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church" 00:30:13.71\00:30:15.54 "Keys of This Blood" 00:30:15.58\00:30:16.91 just a number of books... 00:30:16.95\00:30:18.81 an outspoken Jesuit scholar 00:30:18.88\00:30:20.45 and after having read his, 00:30:20.48\00:30:22.88 "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church" 00:30:22.92\00:30:24.42 about 650 pages... 00:30:24.45\00:30:25.89 Dr. Martin admitted to me in private discussion 00:30:25.92\00:30:30.69 how he felt... his church had done many, many wrong things 00:30:30.73\00:30:35.70 down through the Middle Ages. 00:30:35.73\00:30:37.07 I was meeting with him and we were going to have a debate 00:30:37.10\00:30:42.34 on one of the local radio stations 00:30:42.37\00:30:44.64 in the... in the New York City area 00:30:44.67\00:30:46.84 and I came armed with all of this material 00:30:46.88\00:30:49.68 as to how the Catholic Church had done some of these things 00:30:49.71\00:30:52.71 in the Middle Ages 00:30:52.75\00:30:54.08 and I had facts and figures from the Lutheran... 00:30:54.12\00:30:57.85 the Lutheran church and other churches 00:30:57.89\00:30:59.22 how they say... the Catholic church during the Inquisition 00:30:59.25\00:31:02.36 was responsible for the death of about 50 million people. 00:31:02.39\00:31:05.86 I came armed with my material and we sat down for the debate 00:31:05.89\00:31:09.36 and I hit him with my... my hardest salvo, 00:31:09.40\00:31:11.73 I said, "Well, my figures show 00:31:11.77\00:31:13.90 that the Catholic Church 00:31:13.94\00:31:16.44 through the Inquisition was responsible for the death 00:31:16.50\00:31:18.57 of about 50 million Protestants... 00:31:18.61\00:31:19.94 he said, "It was way more than that. " 00:31:19.97\00:31:21.31 Audience: Laughter... 00:31:21.34\00:31:22.68 He said, "Way more than that" 00:31:22.71\00:31:24.05 and he disarmed me right away, 00:31:24.08\00:31:25.68 he said, "Yeah, everything is true" 00:31:25.71\00:31:27.05 he said, "We did. " 00:31:27.08\00:31:28.42 But this is what he said 00:31:28.45\00:31:29.78 and we're going to come back to this in just a little bit, 00:31:29.82\00:31:32.42 this is what Malachi Martin, famous Jesuit Scholar said to me 00:31:32.45\00:31:35.16 he said, "Sometimes, mothers are little over-zealous 00:31:35.19\00:31:40.43 in correcting their wayward children. " 00:31:40.46\00:31:42.60 Pause. 00:31:42.63\00:31:43.97 That was his statement... 00:31:44.00\00:31:45.37 statement of a famed Jesuit scholar 00:31:45.40\00:31:48.74 he said, "Sometimes mothers can be a little over-zealous 00:31:48.77\00:31:53.74 in correcting their wayward children. " 00:31:53.78\00:31:56.91 Some scholars estimate 50 million... 00:31:56.95\00:32:00.02 Malachi Martin said, "Much more than that. " 00:32:00.08\00:32:03.25 So, he wasn't making an excuse, 00:32:03.28\00:32:05.25 he said, "Sometimes when you spank your children, 00:32:05.29\00:32:08.89 you spank them a little hard... 00:32:08.92\00:32:10.26 you spank them a little too hard. " 00:32:10.29\00:32:11.63 But given all of the torture and the millions of deaths, 00:32:11.66\00:32:18.07 as sad as that was... 00:32:18.10\00:32:21.44 and as bad as that was... 00:32:21.47\00:32:24.74 perhaps the most audacious aspect of Papal intention 00:32:24.77\00:32:31.71 was to change... times and laws 00:32:31.75\00:32:36.45 and that's what Daniel chapter 7 tries to stress 00:32:36.48\00:32:42.09 in its portrayal of this new beast. 00:32:42.12\00:32:45.79 What does that mean? 00:32:45.83\00:32:49.40 What does it mean to try to change 00:32:49.46\00:32:53.47 times and laws? 00:32:53.54\00:32:56.60 There is a wonderful book that is no longer in print 00:32:56.64\00:32:59.31 that I have in my library called, 00:32:59.34\00:33:01.54 "How the Pope Became Infallible" 00:33:01.58\00:33:03.75 and it deals with the changing of times and laws 00:33:03.78\00:33:07.78 but in verse 25 of Daniel chapter 7, 00:33:07.82\00:33:11.92 we see that statement made. 00:33:11.95\00:33:15.86 This new power... this horn... 00:33:15.89\00:33:19.69 will seek to change times and laws... 00:33:19.73\00:33:25.37 this little horn claims the prerogatives of God. 00:33:25.40\00:33:31.77 The question we need to ask, 00:33:31.81\00:33:34.41 "What times and whose laws is the Bible speaking of?" 00:33:34.44\00:33:41.38 Well, first we can discount man's laws... 00:33:41.42\00:33:44.65 can you say, "Amen" 00:33:44.69\00:33:46.02 because man's laws change like the wind. 00:33:46.05\00:33:52.23 Think of the number of times that England, as a country, 00:33:52.26\00:33:56.60 went from Catholic to Protestant... 00:33:56.63\00:33:58.73 Catholic to Protestant 00:33:58.77\00:34:00.10 depending on the king or the queen on the throne, 00:34:00.14\00:34:02.00 it went from Catholic to Protestant. 00:34:02.04\00:34:04.04 We now have in... in the United States here, 00:34:04.07\00:34:07.01 a President can sign Executive Orders. 00:34:07.08\00:34:09.81 One President can sign an Executive Order 00:34:09.84\00:34:12.55 that says, "Yea... " 00:34:12.58\00:34:13.92 and the next President comes right behind him 00:34:13.95\00:34:16.28 and signs an Executive Order that says, "Nay. " 00:34:16.32\00:34:19.25 So, we're not talking about man's times and laws 00:34:19.29\00:34:22.19 because man's laws change with the whim of the person 00:34:22.22\00:34:25.19 who gets elected... 00:34:25.23\00:34:26.56 they are not permanent... 00:34:26.59\00:34:27.93 they are as ropes of sand... they're like the wind... 00:34:27.96\00:34:30.00 so, when we talk about changing times and laws... 00:34:30.03\00:34:32.83 we've got about the church trying... 00:34:32.87\00:34:35.10 we've got to be speaking about the church 00:34:35.14\00:34:37.24 attempting to change God's times and God's Laws 00:34:37.27\00:34:41.68 because it's only God's time 00:34:41.71\00:34:43.95 and God's law that really matter amen. 00:34:43.98\00:34:46.55 Pause... 00:34:46.58\00:34:51.69 Every time we amend the Constitution, 00:34:51.72\00:34:53.52 it occurs to me... we change our own laws... 00:34:53.56\00:34:55.69 so, we're talking about God's time... God's Law... 00:34:55.72\00:34:59.09 here's a text for you, Malachi chapter 3 verse 6, 00:34:59.13\00:35:02.60 the Bible says, "I am the Lord, I change not" 00:35:02.63\00:35:06.00 So, God is not fickle... God doesn't say one thing today 00:35:06.03\00:35:10.37 and then sign an Executive Order 00:35:10.41\00:35:12.27 and sign and make it another thing tomorrow 00:35:12.31\00:35:14.54 and the battle really is between earth and heaven. 00:35:14.61\00:35:19.71 So, let's put that in context, 00:35:19.78\00:35:22.02 God's Law is the 10 Commandments 00:35:22.05\00:35:24.82 amen... 00:35:24.85\00:35:26.19 we're talking about the Law of God... 00:35:26.22\00:35:27.56 we're talking about the eternal Law of God 00:35:27.59\00:35:29.76 the Law that is part of His character... 00:35:29.79\00:35:32.06 that's the 10 Commandments. 00:35:32.09\00:35:33.46 The only Commandment that deals with time 00:35:33.50\00:35:37.10 is the 4th Commandment. 00:35:37.13\00:35:39.30 The rest of the Commandments 00:35:39.33\00:35:41.27 are sort of "do" and "don't" Commandments 00:35:41.30\00:35:42.80 that really deal with interpersonal relationships 00:35:42.87\00:35:44.61 between humans 00:35:44.64\00:35:46.17 and interpersonal relationships between man and God. 00:35:46.21\00:35:48.08 The only one that deals with time is Commandment number 4. 00:35:48.11\00:35:53.58 Now, this is very, very important... 00:35:53.62\00:35:55.22 I'm going to show you something in just a little bit. 00:35:55.25\00:35:56.99 So, God's Law... Ten Commandments... 00:35:57.02\00:35:59.89 God's time... the 4th Commandment. 00:35:59.92\00:36:02.72 So, then, Daniel chapter 7:25 identifies a power 00:36:02.76\00:36:07.40 that will attempt to change the Lord's Sabbath. 00:36:07.43\00:36:11.93 That's what Daniel 7:25 is saying. 00:36:12.00\00:36:14.80 This power is going to attempt to change 00:36:14.84\00:36:19.71 God's holy Sabbath 00:36:19.74\00:36:21.91 because the Sabbath is the only part of the Ten Commandments 00:36:21.94\00:36:25.91 that deals with time. 00:36:25.95\00:36:28.52 The first change... or the first attempt to change 00:36:28.55\00:36:33.39 began with the Edict of Constantine 00:36:33.42\00:36:36.22 in 321 A.D. 00:36:36.26\00:36:38.09 Now, we're not going to go through that because 00:36:38.13\00:36:39.83 many people talked about that. 00:36:39.86\00:36:41.93 What the Edict of Constantine... 321 A.D. did 00:36:41.96\00:36:45.73 it de-criminalized work on Sunday. 00:36:45.77\00:36:50.64 Prior to 321 A.D., 00:36:50.67\00:36:53.64 Christianity was still a religio-illicitus, 00:36:53.68\00:36:58.31 in other words, an illegal religion... 00:36:58.35\00:37:00.28 and the reason we know that it was an illegal religion 00:37:00.32\00:37:02.58 because just ten years before or less, 00:37:02.65\00:37:07.52 the Christian Church went through 00:37:07.56\00:37:09.82 one of the worst times of persecution in its history 00:37:09.86\00:37:12.83 called the Diocletian Persecution. 00:37:12.86\00:37:14.76 Ten years of persecution under the Emperor Diocletian 00:37:14.80\00:37:18.97 303 to 313 00:37:19.03\00:37:20.44 when Christians were slaughtered by the tens of thousands 00:37:20.47\00:37:26.91 so now, after 313... in 321... Constantine makes an Edict 00:37:26.94\00:37:33.35 that de-criminalizes work on Sunday. 00:37:33.42\00:37:37.75 It de-facto recognizes Christianity 00:37:37.79\00:37:41.22 it turns it from a religio-illicitus 00:37:41.26\00:37:44.59 to a legitimate religion. 00:37:44.66\00:37:47.76 Most people know about 321... 00:37:47.80\00:37:50.80 I want to take you to the next big attack on Christianity 00:37:50.87\00:37:57.04 at the Council of Laodicea in 364 A.D. 00:37:57.07\00:38:02.54 364 A.D. 00:38:02.58\00:38:06.01 and I want to give you the language that was voted 00:38:06.05\00:38:09.58 by the Church at the Council of Laodicea... 364 A.D. 00:38:09.62\00:38:13.05 "... Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday" 00:38:13.09\00:38:19.26 that is the Sabbath... 00:38:19.29\00:38:20.63 "Judaizing" meant just acting like a Jew 00:38:20.66\00:38:23.87 and doing nothing on Sabbath. 00:38:23.90\00:38:26.00 So they wanted you working on... on Sabbath. 00:38:26.03\00:38:29.97 a little bit later, something very interesting... 00:38:30.01\00:38:32.54 the Catholic Church actually instituted something 00:38:32.57\00:38:35.04 they called "the Sabbath Fast" 00:38:35.08\00:38:36.85 they made you fast on Sabbath to make it a day of drudgery 00:38:36.88\00:38:40.95 and then they allowed you to feast on Sunday. 00:38:40.98\00:38:43.45 Pause. 00:38:43.49\00:38:45.75 So, you can't "Judaize" on Sabbath... 00:38:45.79\00:38:47.66 "but shall work on that day. " 00:38:47.69\00:38:49.39 So they want you in the field working... 00:38:49.42\00:38:50.99 they want you working on that day. 00:38:51.03\00:38:52.56 "But the Lord's Day they shall especially honor 00:38:52.59\00:38:56.93 and as being Christians shall if possible, 00:38:56.97\00:39:01.27 do no work on that day. " 00:39:01.30\00:39:04.51 If, however, they are found Judaizing, 00:39:04.54\00:39:08.61 they shall be cut off from Christ... " 00:39:08.64\00:39:13.01 That's the Council of Laodicea 364 A.D. 00:39:13.05\00:39:17.35 In other words, if they caught you not working on Saturday, 00:39:17.39\00:39:24.09 you were anathema... you were cut off from the Lord. 00:39:24.13\00:39:28.96 So, this now, is the first fully functioning Edict... 00:39:29.03\00:39:33.84 not only in favor of Sunday, 00:39:33.90\00:39:37.21 but specifically against Sabbath. 00:39:37.24\00:39:40.68 Then, in the 16th Century, 00:39:40.74\00:39:44.11 the church found its philosophical motherlode. 00:39:44.15\00:39:49.78 Pause. 00:39:50.02\00:39:52.12 In the 16th Century, the church convened an 18-year convocation 00:39:52.15\00:39:57.89 called "The Council of Trent" T R E N T 00:39:57.93\00:40:03.43 after the city in northern Italy. 00:40:03.47\00:40:06.47 Pause. 00:40:06.50\00:40:08.97 The Council of Trent took up many, many doctrines 00:40:09.00\00:40:12.81 pause 00:40:12.84\00:40:14.91 but one of the things that it did 00:40:14.94\00:40:18.18 towards the end of the Council 00:40:18.21\00:40:21.72 was address itself to the Sabbath. 00:40:21.75\00:40:25.22 Let me give you some of the words 00:40:25.25\00:40:29.16 of the hero of the Council of Trent... 00:40:29.19\00:40:32.26 his name was Archbishop Reggio 00:40:32.29\00:40:35.86 or the Archbishop of Reggio. 00:40:35.90\00:40:39.07 Pause. 00:40:39.10\00:40:40.44 Here is what the Catholic Church discovered 00:40:40.47\00:40:43.67 in 1551 right near the close of the Council of Trent. 00:40:43.71\00:40:48.94 "The written word 00:40:48.98\00:40:51.81 explicitly enjoins the observance of the seventh day" 00:40:51.85\00:40:57.12 now, that's the Catholic Church 00:40:57.15\00:40:59.62 telling the truth about the Sabbath. 00:40:59.65\00:41:03.22 "The written word explicitly enjoins 00:41:03.26\00:41:06.53 the observance of the seventh day... " 00:41:06.56\00:41:09.33 in other words, "The Bible says, 'keep the Sabbath... '" 00:41:09.36\00:41:11.50 "as the Sabbath. 00:41:11.53\00:41:13.67 We do not observe the seventh day. 00:41:13.70\00:41:17.34 If they... " that is... Protestants 00:41:17.37\00:41:20.98 "do truly hold the Scripture alone as their standard... 00:41:21.01\00:41:27.02 they would be observing the 7th day 00:41:27.05\00:41:31.95 as enjoined in the Scripture throughout. " 00:41:31.99\00:41:35.26 See what he's saying, 00:41:35.29\00:41:36.69 he's saying, "If you really were Bible keepers, 00:41:36.73\00:41:40.00 you would be keeping the seventh day. " 00:41:40.03\00:41:42.86 Now, hold on to your hats, 00:41:42.90\00:41:44.37 here is how he uses that argument. 00:41:44.40\00:41:45.73 "Yet they not only reject the observance of the Sabbath 00:41:45.77\00:41:54.48 enjoined in the written word" 00:41:54.51\00:41:56.44 so he's saying it again, 00:41:56.48\00:41:57.81 not only do you reject the Sabbath in the Bible, 00:41:57.85\00:42:00.02 "but they have adopted and do practice 00:42:00.05\00:42:04.82 the observance of Sunday 00:42:04.85\00:42:06.82 for which they have only the tradition of the church. " 00:42:06.86\00:42:11.19 Now, look what he's saying, 00:42:11.23\00:42:12.56 he is saying, "You say that you're Bible keepers, 00:42:12.59\00:42:18.13 but the day you're keeping... 00:42:18.17\00:42:20.77 you'll forgive my pejorative English, 00:42:20.80\00:42:23.44 "ain't in the Bible" 00:42:23.47\00:42:27.01 so, you're keeping a day 00:42:27.04\00:42:30.48 and the only reason you have for keeping that day 00:42:30.51\00:42:33.88 is because we're telling you to keep that day. 00:42:33.92\00:42:37.82 So, you cannot really say... you're Bible keepers. 00:42:37.85\00:42:41.72 Now, this... this is very, very important, 00:42:41.79\00:42:44.46 this is very crucial. 00:42:44.49\00:42:45.96 "Consequently... " he goes on, 00:42:45.99\00:42:48.00 "the claim of Scripture alone as their standard falls 00:42:48.03\00:42:53.74 and the doctrine of Scripture and tradition as essential 00:42:53.77\00:42:59.41 is fully established... " 00:42:59.44\00:43:00.78 He's... he's... he's... we've got a pretty tight case here. 00:43:00.81\00:43:03.71 "The Protestants themselves being judges. " 00:43:03.75\00:43:07.92 This was voted at the Council of Trent 00:43:07.95\00:43:10.49 in spring of 1551. 00:43:10.55\00:43:13.62 It's a powerful, powerful argument. 00:43:13.66\00:43:16.02 Pause. 00:43:16.09\00:43:18.16 Now, the Augsburg Confession... 00:43:18.19\00:43:20.70 The Augsburg Confession was voted as the Catholic... 00:43:20.73\00:43:27.27 I'm sorry, the Protestant doctrine in 1530. 00:43:27.30\00:43:32.71 It was presented to the 00:43:32.74\00:43:39.21 Holy Roman Empire Elector in Germany... 00:43:39.25\00:43:43.99 Lutheran scholars put it together 00:43:44.02\00:43:46.99 and before long all Protestant Denominations 00:43:47.06\00:43:51.66 accepted the Augsburg Confession. 00:43:51.69\00:43:54.06 I've read the Augsburg Confession. 00:43:54.10\00:43:56.40 The... the book in which it is written is 878 pages long. 00:43:56.43\00:44:00.44 It's got 28 different parts 00:44:00.47\00:44:02.34 and each of the different parts has about 20 different sub-texts 00:44:02.37\00:44:06.61 it's a long, long thing. 00:44:06.64\00:44:08.98 The Council of Trent calls it the Protestant Inconsistency. 00:44:09.01\00:44:17.25 Here's their reasoning, 00:44:17.29\00:44:20.56 the Augsburg Confession states that Protestants 00:44:20.59\00:44:29.46 would accept and revere Sunday 00:44:29.50\00:44:33.50 and all Protestant Churches signed on 00:44:33.54\00:44:36.91 to the Augsburg Confession. 00:44:36.94\00:44:38.87 It admits the observance of Sunday as the Lord's Day. 00:44:38.91\00:44:45.28 So now, Archbishop Reggio comes along, 21 years later 00:44:45.31\00:44:51.65 at the Council of Trent and says, 00:44:51.69\00:44:54.62 "Because of this one issue... 00:44:54.66\00:44:57.69 because of this one issue, 00:44:57.73\00:45:00.63 he says, "the entire Protestant Reformation 00:45:00.66\00:45:06.07 is nothing more than an unwarranted revolt 00:45:06.10\00:45:11.37 against the Mother Church 00:45:11.44\00:45:13.31 and that was voted at the Council of Trent 00:45:13.34\00:45:16.24 and from that day to this, 00:45:16.28\00:45:18.48 that shows what the Catholic Church 00:45:18.51\00:45:22.72 thinks of Protestantism. 00:45:22.75\00:45:26.42 It is an unwarranted revolt. 00:45:26.45\00:45:30.09 Why is it a revolt? 00:45:30.13\00:45:31.66 He says, "Because you don't believe yourself... 00:45:31.69\00:45:36.46 what you're teaching" 00:45:36.50\00:45:37.83 and it's a powerful argument. 00:45:37.87\00:45:40.34 He says, "You cannot believe what you're teaching... 00:45:40.37\00:45:45.11 because the main argument of the Protestant Reformation 00:45:45.14\00:45:49.88 was Sola Scriptura... 00:45:49.91\00:45:53.31 the Bible and the Bible only... " 00:45:53.35\00:45:57.49 The main argument coming out of the Council of Trent 00:45:57.52\00:46:02.12 is that Scripture and tradition are equal 00:46:02.16\00:46:08.20 so, how can you be Sola Scriptura 00:46:08.23\00:46:13.00 and keep a day which is not "Scriptura?" 00:46:13.03\00:46:18.27 You understand that argument? 00:46:18.34\00:46:20.81 It is so powerful that every Catholic scholar 00:46:20.84\00:46:25.65 from that day to this has used that same argument, 00:46:25.71\00:46:29.38 every one, you name them. 00:46:29.42\00:46:31.09 Cardinal Gibbons... Albert Smith... John Newman... 00:46:31.12\00:46:36.12 Louis Gaston de Ségur 00:46:36.16\00:46:38.16 Nathan Canaan, 00:46:38.19\00:46:39.56 all of the great theologians have used that same argument 00:46:39.59\00:46:48.14 that you cannot be Sola Scriptura 00:46:48.17\00:46:51.87 because you're keeping a day that has no place in Scripture. 00:46:51.91\00:46:56.98 "We changed the day... you're keeping our day... 00:46:57.01\00:47:01.08 so you're not really Protestant. " 00:47:01.12\00:47:03.69 And many Catholic theologians call it to this day, 00:47:03.72\00:47:09.26 "The Protestant Inconsistency" 00:47:09.29\00:47:12.49 they say, cannot be Sola Scriptura 00:47:12.53\00:47:17.67 because you're keeping a day that is not in Scripture. 00:47:17.70\00:47:20.94 I brought this up to Malachi Martin... 00:47:20.97\00:47:23.44 this "Protestant Inconsistency" 00:47:23.47\00:47:26.14 this idea that you cannot be Sola Scriptura 00:47:26.17\00:47:29.51 and keep Sunday 00:47:29.54\00:47:30.88 and here's what Malachi Martin told me face to face. 00:47:30.91\00:47:33.85 He said, "If you worship the Lord 00:47:33.88\00:47:40.02 on the day designated by the Catholic Church... 00:47:40.06\00:47:44.39 if you worship the Lord 00:47:44.43\00:47:47.76 on the day designated by the Catholic Church 00:47:47.80\00:47:52.30 regardless of what you call yourself... 00:47:52.33\00:47:55.97 you are Catholic... " 00:47:56.00\00:47:58.77 that's Malachi Martin. 00:47:58.81\00:48:01.04 It doesn't matter what your name is... 00:48:01.08\00:48:03.65 Baptist, Protestant... Presbyterian... doesn't matter 00:48:03.68\00:48:06.45 if you're worshipping on the day that we designate, 00:48:06.48\00:48:09.25 you're Catholic... 00:48:09.28\00:48:10.79 and that is the mindset of the church to this day 00:48:10.82\00:48:14.29 and that's why you hear terms like, "Erring Brethren" 00:48:14.32\00:48:17.73 you know, brethren that have departed... 00:48:17.76\00:48:19.49 "you're still Catholic because you're worshipping on our day" 00:48:19.53\00:48:21.93 now that's not the Protestant argument, 00:48:21.96\00:48:24.93 that's not the Seventh-day Adventist argument, 00:48:24.97\00:48:26.94 it is the Catholic Church's theological content from 1551 00:48:26.97\00:48:32.21 and the Council of Trent. 00:48:32.24\00:48:33.64 You're accepting our day... you are de facto Catholic 00:48:33.68\00:48:38.91 and of all the dogma coming from the Council of Trent 00:48:38.95\00:48:44.15 and they ratified many things 00:48:44.19\00:48:46.52 arguably the one that has the most far-reaching effect 00:48:46.55\00:48:52.09 on how Catholic theologians 00:48:52.13\00:48:55.16 view and treat all Sunday-keeping Protestants 00:48:55.20\00:48:59.90 is this idea of the Protestant Inconsistency. 00:48:59.93\00:49:04.54 They're saying, 00:49:04.57\00:49:06.68 "You don't believe yourself what you're teaching... 00:49:06.71\00:49:09.14 you cannot... because you're keeping our day. " 00:49:09.21\00:49:11.61 It's a very, very powerful argument 00:49:11.65\00:49:13.38 and it... it is buttressed 00:49:13.42\00:49:15.38 by what the Bible says in Daniel chapter 7:25, 00:49:15.42\00:49:18.95 "They will seek to change times and laws" 00:49:18.99\00:49:21.72 and then we find out in Revelation that the whole world 00:49:21.76\00:49:24.69 is moving in that direction. 00:49:24.73\00:49:26.70 That is why, Ladies and Gentlemen, 00:49:26.73\00:49:29.66 the Counter Reformation was so vicious 00:49:29.73\00:49:33.07 and why the fires of the Inquisition raged 00:49:33.13\00:49:36.44 for the next 400 years 00:49:36.50\00:49:39.01 because from the Catholic standpoint, 00:49:39.04\00:49:41.61 said Malachi Martin to me, 00:49:41.64\00:49:44.05 "They were crushing an illegitimate religion 00:49:44.08\00:49:48.78 whose adherence not only didn't believe what they taught, 00:49:48.85\00:49:54.42 they couldn't believe what they taught... 00:49:54.46\00:49:57.43 according to Malachi Martin, "they couldn't believe it 00:49:57.46\00:50:00.60 because 00:50:00.63\00:50:01.96 their basic worship premise 00:50:02.00\00:50:04.30 did not come from the Word of God. 00:50:04.33\00:50:07.97 Pause. 00:50:08.00\00:50:11.74 Many of the Popes and Leaders of the Church 00:50:11.77\00:50:14.81 saw their persecution of Protestants 00:50:14.84\00:50:19.11 not as persecution but rather... fumigation... sterilization... 00:50:19.18\00:50:27.39 eradication of a disease that infected the Holy Mother Church. 00:50:27.42\00:50:35.60 Protestantism in the Middle Ages was for many 00:50:35.63\00:50:40.70 not a rival religion... 00:50:40.74\00:50:43.61 but a virus that needed to be cleansed. 00:50:43.64\00:50:48.58 That's why they took such extreme measures... 00:50:48.61\00:50:52.58 such ungodly measures... 00:50:52.61\00:50:54.55 such horrific measures in stamping out 00:50:54.58\00:50:58.15 what they thought was an unnecessary revolt 00:50:58.19\00:51:04.26 that should have never taken place. 00:51:04.29\00:51:07.13 So, groups like the Huguenots, the Albigenses, 00:51:07.16\00:51:12.50 the Waldenses, the Cathari, the Lombards, 00:51:12.53\00:51:17.81 the Anabaptists, the Jews...
