(light music) 00:00:00.53\00:00:02.63 - Welcome, everyone. 00:00:04.10\00:00:05.43 We're excited to share some country wisdom with you. 00:00:05.43\00:00:07.64 - King Solomon had a thing or two to say 00:00:07.64\00:00:09.74 about the path to wisdom. 00:00:09.74\00:00:11.51 In Proverbs four he wrote, 00:00:11.51\00:00:13.68 "Let your eyes look directly forward 00:00:13.68\00:00:16.08 and your gaze be straight before you. 00:00:16.08\00:00:19.15 Keep straight the path of your feet 00:00:19.15\00:00:21.38 and all your ways will be sure." 00:00:21.38\00:00:23.75 - Join us now for "Country Wisdom". 00:00:23.75\00:00:25.92 (light music) 00:00:25.92\00:00:28.49 (gentle music) 00:00:32.73\00:00:35.33 Can you see this? 00:00:36.20\00:00:37.03 Look at this. 00:00:37.03\00:00:38.30 All of that granite, slowly over time, 00:00:38.30\00:00:41.60 had fallen off of that top of that mountain. 00:00:41.60\00:00:44.14 Millions of years, and after 69 million years, 00:00:44.14\00:00:47.74 voila, this is what we have. 00:00:47.74\00:00:50.48 But wait a second, 00:00:50.48\00:00:51.45 does that really make sense? 00:00:51.45\00:00:53.21 But that's what many scientists would have us believe. 00:00:53.21\00:00:55.75 You just add more time and more time to anything 00:00:55.75\00:00:58.95 and it can happen. 00:00:58.95\00:00:59.82 You know, I had an acquaintance at Dr. Gentry 00:01:01.16\00:01:03.69 who did studies on granite, 00:01:03.69\00:01:05.26 that whole mountain is granite, 00:01:05.26\00:01:06.93 and he found isotope halos of polonium 218, 00:01:06.93\00:01:11.60 in particular halo had half life of three minutes. 00:01:11.60\00:01:15.07 There he found that the granite had cooled so rapidly 00:01:15.07\00:01:18.41 it captured those halos. 00:01:18.41\00:01:20.61 What does that mean? 00:01:20.61\00:01:21.68 Well, it means that the scientist 00:01:21.68\00:01:23.55 can't be right with millions and millions 00:01:23.55\00:01:25.55 and millions of years, 00:01:25.55\00:01:26.75 but God can when he spoke everything into existence. 00:01:28.15\00:01:31.32 (gentle music) 00:01:31.32\00:01:33.96 - I have heard you tell some pretty wild stories, 00:01:42.46\00:01:45.17 but that is just absurd. 00:01:45.17\00:01:46.63 - Well, that's exactly it. 00:01:46.63\00:01:48.07 You have to use the absurd 00:01:48.07\00:01:49.50 to try and get people to stop and think, 00:01:49.50\00:01:52.21 could it really happen? 00:01:52.21\00:01:54.91 Does a Boeing 747 just come together? 00:01:56.11\00:01:58.68 (both laugh) 00:01:58.68\00:01:59.68 - You know, there's completely, 00:01:59.68\00:02:01.85 well not completely a different topic, 00:02:01.85\00:02:03.52 but I can remember at different points in my life, 00:02:03.52\00:02:07.36 like even back in high school Biology, 00:02:07.36\00:02:09.82 realizing there are some major holes 00:02:09.82\00:02:12.36 in this whole Darwinian theory. 00:02:12.36\00:02:14.56 And one of them I, to this day, 00:02:14.56\00:02:16.83 have never heard a decent explanation of 00:02:16.83\00:02:19.37 is how, with the gradual little steps, 00:02:19.37\00:02:23.81 would you ever end up with male and female? 00:02:24.94\00:02:27.08 Because unless you have a conscious nature 00:02:27.08\00:02:30.55 that you just don't wanna call God 00:02:31.68\00:02:33.52 you would have to know as you're, 00:02:35.22\00:02:37.15 you know, over millions of years developing a female, 00:02:37.15\00:02:41.06 somebody has to be aware that there's a male over here 00:02:41.06\00:02:44.36 otherwise what's the point? 00:02:44.36\00:02:45.16 - That is a good point, yeah. 00:02:45.16\00:02:48.03 - The two really have to be fully formed, complete, 00:02:48.03\00:02:51.77 before they're gonna do each other any good. 00:02:51.77\00:02:54.84 So that just never made sense to me. 00:02:54.84\00:02:57.31 That, oh, they just developed. 00:02:57.31\00:03:00.28 And if, according to evolution, 00:03:00.28\00:03:03.81 really our whole purpose in life, 00:03:03.81\00:03:05.81 if there is a purpose to a randomly produced life, 00:03:05.81\00:03:10.79 it would be just to get our genes passed on, right? 00:03:10.79\00:03:13.89 I'm sure you've heard that. - Yeah, yeah. 00:03:13.89\00:03:15.89 - Well, wouldn't it have been much more efficient 00:03:15.89\00:03:18.03 if we were all just hermaphrodites? 00:03:18.03\00:03:20.06 I remember having my first little aquarium 00:03:21.13\00:03:23.03 when I was a kid and my dad said, 00:03:23.03\00:03:25.13 "Well, we need to buy a snail to put in the aquarium 00:03:25.13\00:03:28.20 to help keep it clean." 00:03:28.20\00:03:29.30 And one day, there was a little snail in there. 00:03:29.30\00:03:32.84 And I'm going, "Where did that come from?" 00:03:32.84\00:03:34.41 So my dad explained to me that, 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.14 I don't know if all snails are hermaphrodites 00:03:36.14\00:03:38.31 but this one was, and it's like, 00:03:38.31\00:03:40.42 oh yeah, you only need one and it'll produce by itself. 00:03:40.42\00:03:43.52 Isn't that what evolution should have done? 00:03:43.52\00:03:45.79 Because it's so much more efficient. 00:03:45.79\00:03:47.92 If your whole purpose is reproduce, 00:03:47.92\00:03:51.59 then why should you be dependent on someone else? 00:03:51.59\00:03:55.40 - Because according to evolution, 00:03:55.40\00:03:57.60 everything is always getting better 00:03:57.60\00:03:59.70 and better and better in producing 00:03:59.70\00:04:01.34 some higher form. - Something more 00:04:01.34\00:04:02.40 and more complicated. 00:04:02.40\00:04:03.34 - And more complex. 00:04:03.34\00:04:04.41 - I don't know if you've read this book 00:04:04.41\00:04:05.74 but I remember another big turning point for me, 00:04:05.74\00:04:07.88 Michael Behe's book, "Darwin's Black Box". 00:04:07.88\00:04:11.31 In that, there were sections I had to read 00:04:12.71\00:04:14.78 two or three times 00:04:14.78\00:04:16.52 because it was meant more for scientists. 00:04:16.52\00:04:19.02 And he wasn't even coming at it 00:04:19.02\00:04:21.22 from a perspective of being a Christian. 00:04:21.22\00:04:23.93 He's a scientist, what kind? 00:04:23.93\00:04:26.03 Microbiologist, something like that. 00:04:26.03\00:04:28.33 And he said, okay, Darwin, back in his day, 00:04:28.33\00:04:31.50 it was easy enough to look under a microscope 00:04:31.50\00:04:34.00 and see these cells look like just little blobs. 00:04:34.00\00:04:37.14 It was easy enough to go, 00:04:37.14\00:04:38.21 "Well, that's just a simple cell. 00:04:38.21\00:04:39.31 It could have arisen from primordial stew." 00:04:39.31\00:04:42.64 But we know now cells are anything but simple. 00:04:42.64\00:04:45.41 He talks about all the systems within a cell, 00:04:46.68\00:04:50.99 including - [Jim] Yeah. 00:04:50.99\00:04:52.09 - [Janice] an entire waste removal system, 00:04:52.09\00:04:54.49 without which the cell would die. 00:04:54.49\00:04:56.93 - Now that we've mapped the human genome, 00:04:56.93\00:04:59.63 Darwin would just- 00:04:59.63\00:05:01.03 - It just keeps getting more and more complicated 00:05:01.03\00:05:03.10 than - Exactly. 00:05:03.10\00:05:03.93 - the deeper you look. 00:05:03.93\00:05:05.27 And he said this could not have happened 00:05:05.27\00:05:07.67 on a gradual step-by-step basis 00:05:07.67\00:05:09.90 because you need that whole system 00:05:09.90\00:05:12.81 for the cell to function. 00:05:12.81\00:05:14.11 - Yeah. 00:05:14.11\00:05:15.14 - And if you were taking millions of years 00:05:15.14\00:05:17.31 tiny little steps, 00:05:17.31\00:05:18.61 how would nature know to select for something like that 00:05:18.61\00:05:22.25 until it was complete? 00:05:22.25\00:05:23.75 - Yeah. 00:05:23.75\00:05:24.55 - It had to be all at once. 00:05:24.55\00:05:26.52 - It's so interesting because everywhere we turn 00:05:26.52\00:05:29.12 there's evidence for creation as opposed to evolution. 00:05:29.12\00:05:33.33 - That's what I meant when I said 00:05:33.33\00:05:34.40 God doesn't just ask us to go on blind faith. 00:05:34.40\00:05:38.10 I know the phrase, "God said it, I believe it, 00:05:38.10\00:05:40.97 that settles it." 00:05:40.97\00:05:42.80 Ultimately it comes down to that. 00:05:42.80\00:05:44.57 If there's something you don't understand, 00:05:44.57\00:05:47.01 rather than saying, "God must be wrong here 00:05:47.01\00:05:49.71 'cause this is not making sense to me. 00:05:49.71\00:05:51.21 This isn't logical." 00:05:51.21\00:05:52.61 I have learned that it makes a lot more sense spiritually 00:05:52.61\00:05:56.92 to go, okay, I don't understand it, 00:05:56.92\00:05:58.89 but there's gotta be a reason 00:05:58.89\00:06:00.89 or God wouldn't have done it this way. 00:06:00.89\00:06:02.59 So you might need to get to that point at some point, 00:06:02.59\00:06:05.99 but there is so much evidence. 00:06:05.99\00:06:07.73 He's not asking us to believe 00:06:07.73\00:06:09.30 that He created everything on blind faith. 00:06:09.30\00:06:12.23 - Very true, very true. 00:06:12.23\00:06:13.70 And I had the privilege one time 00:06:13.70\00:06:15.34 of having Dr. Harold Coffin stay at our home. 00:06:15.34\00:06:19.47 He wrote "Creation: Accident Or Design". 00:06:19.47\00:06:21.94 I can remember in there talking about the human eye, 00:06:21.94\00:06:25.18 - [Janice] Oh, right. - [Jim] that complexity 00:06:25.18\00:06:26.31 of the human eye. - [Janice] Right. 00:06:26.31\00:06:27.65 - [Jim] But an exciting thing he was doing at that time 00:06:27.65\00:06:29.78 was studying Mount St. Helen. 00:06:29.78\00:06:31.55 Many years ago, but you remember, 00:06:31.55\00:06:32.65 Mount St. Helen- - [Janice] Yes, 00:06:32.65\00:06:33.49 I've been there. 00:06:33.49\00:06:34.56 Oh, it's incredible to stand there, 00:06:34.56\00:06:36.59 and years later, to look at the damage that that caused. 00:06:36.59\00:06:40.10 - And he was going year after year and study, 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.06 and he noticed in Spirit Lake 00:06:42.06\00:06:43.40 there used to be this gorgeous lake. 00:06:43.40\00:06:44.73 All of a sudden, here was all this logs 00:06:44.73\00:06:47.54 had washed in the lake and pretty soon their water logging 00:06:47.54\00:06:49.87 because they had their entire root mass 00:06:49.87\00:06:51.51 still intact with the tree with just no limbs. 00:06:51.51\00:06:55.84 They would upright themselves, 00:06:55.84\00:06:57.35 and pretty soon they begin sinking. 00:06:57.35\00:06:59.11 He decided to dive one year, went in there, 00:06:59.11\00:07:01.75 and here's all these successional layers of forest 00:07:01.75\00:07:04.95 laid down over millions of years. 00:07:04.95\00:07:06.52 But wait a second. (Janice laughs) 00:07:06.52\00:07:07.96 - We know when that happened. 00:07:07.96\00:07:09.06 - Yeah, it was only just a few years. 00:07:09.06\00:07:11.46 And then he came back one year 00:07:11.46\00:07:12.83 and all of a sudden this earth and dam kind of mud 00:07:12.83\00:07:15.83 had broken out and here is a mini Grand Canyon. 00:07:15.83\00:07:19.53 The whole thing 00:07:19.53\00:07:20.64 right there. - [Janice] A brand new canyon. 00:07:20.64\00:07:21.94 - [Jim] A brand new canyon with all the strata, 00:07:21.94\00:07:22.74 all the layers, all the levels. 00:07:22.74\00:07:24.71 And you think, "Ah, Grand Canyon, 00:07:24.71\00:07:27.34 could it have happened in just a short time?" 00:07:27.34\00:07:29.91 Yes, they could. 00:07:29.91\00:07:31.05 - Because until Mount St. Helen's scientists 00:07:31.05\00:07:34.05 would not have said that could happen in one day. 00:07:34.05\00:07:36.05 - Not at all. 00:07:36.05\00:07:37.09 And it's interesting too, 00:07:37.09\00:07:38.32 because he's got permission to do core samples 00:07:38.32\00:07:39.99 in some of today's petrified forest 00:07:39.99\00:07:41.92 that they say were laid down over millennial time. 00:07:41.92\00:07:44.26 Guess what? 00:07:44.26\00:07:45.16 Not the case. 00:07:46.16\00:07:47.23 All one forest, all one age of forest. 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.10 - You took the core samples and genetically 00:07:49.10\00:07:51.17 all those trees are the same. 00:07:51.17\00:07:52.77 - Same, yeah. 00:07:52.77\00:07:53.84 Same forest. 00:07:53.84\00:07:55.14 - Pretty good evidence. 00:07:55.14\00:07:56.20 - Now, another interesting thing, 00:07:56.20\00:07:57.51 and I know we kinda wanna wrap up this section 00:07:57.51\00:07:59.41 'cause I think you wanted to go do something. 00:07:59.41\00:08:01.11 - Yes! (Jim chuckles) 00:08:01.11\00:08:02.58 So hurry. 00:08:02.58\00:08:03.65 - Okay, but Darwin, he kept saying, 00:08:03.65\00:08:05.85 "Oh, we'll find more links. 00:08:05.85\00:08:07.62 We'll find more things in the future that'll corroborate." 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.69 Well, let me read to you what one fellow says 00:08:10.69\00:08:14.32 from Harvard University taught at John Hopkins. 00:08:14.32\00:08:17.93 He said, "Well, we are now about 120 years after Darwin 00:08:17.93\00:08:21.50 and knowledge of the fossil record 00:08:21.50\00:08:23.00 has been greatly expanded. 00:08:23.00\00:08:24.93 We now have a quarter of a million fossils, 00:08:24.93\00:08:27.07 probably even more now, various species, 00:08:27.07\00:08:29.80 but the situation hasn't changed much." 00:08:29.80\00:08:32.54 - [Janice] What situation? 00:08:32.54\00:08:33.51 - [Jim] "The record of evolution 00:08:33.51\00:08:34.71 is still surprisingly jerky 00:08:34.71\00:08:36.85 and ironically, we have even fewer examples 00:08:36.85\00:08:39.71 of evolutionary transitions than we had in Darwin's time." 00:08:39.71\00:08:44.12 - Still haven't found that missing link. 00:08:44.12\00:08:45.72 - Still haven't found that missing link. 00:08:45.72\00:08:47.56 But let's go check out what you want. 00:08:47.56\00:08:49.29 - We get to go to the zoo? 00:08:49.29\00:08:50.09 - We're going to go to the zoo. 00:08:50.09\00:08:51.13 - All right. 00:08:51.13\00:08:52.13 (light music) 00:08:52.13\00:08:54.66 So, you let me come to the zoo. 00:09:01.50\00:09:03.10 - [Jim] We got to the zoo. - I know, I know. 00:09:03.10\00:09:05.47 Look at these guys. 00:09:05.47\00:09:06.81 Isn't that evidence of evolution? 00:09:06.81\00:09:09.24 - [Jim] You mean because there's a horse and a zebra 00:09:09.24\00:09:12.45 that bred together? 00:09:12.45\00:09:14.28 - Yeah. - [Jim] No. 00:09:14.28\00:09:15.12 - It's a new creature. 00:09:15.12\00:09:15.98 It's still a hoof dam. 00:09:15.98\00:09:17.02 - It's a new creature. 00:09:17.02\00:09:18.22 (Jim laughs) 00:09:18.22\00:09:19.05 - That's a stretch. 00:09:19.05\00:09:19.85 And see, that's the way it is. 00:09:19.85\00:09:21.22 You look at these guys, you can breed cats with cats, 00:09:21.22\00:09:24.76 you can breed a tiger and a lion, right? 00:09:24.76\00:09:26.86 You get a liger. - [Janice] Right. 00:09:26.86\00:09:28.00 - They've done it. 00:09:28.00\00:09:29.23 But you can't breed a dog and a cat. 00:09:29.23\00:09:31.60 - Not the way we've ever figured out how to do. 00:09:32.70\00:09:35.00 - Not the how, because kind, 00:09:35.00\00:09:36.74 which is basically the family, 00:09:36.74\00:09:39.41 kind is this major covering. 00:09:39.41\00:09:41.81 I mean, I could work a long time, 00:09:41.81\00:09:44.65 probably longer in my lifetime anyway, 00:09:44.65\00:09:46.85 and I could get a, what would you say 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.12 from Great Dane to a Chihuahua? 00:09:49.12\00:09:53.09 - [Janice] Well, I don't think that's evolution. 00:09:53.09\00:09:55.22 That would be devolution. 00:09:55.22\00:09:57.79 (Jim laughs) 00:09:57.79\00:09:58.63 - Well now you're just- 00:09:58.63\00:09:59.69 - You know, you're going backwards there. 00:09:59.69\00:10:01.10 - But it's micro evolution. 00:10:01.10\00:10:03.60 If you look at from the standpoint of creating 00:10:03.60\00:10:06.03 a new "species" or whatever, 00:10:06.03\00:10:08.50 it's still all part of it. 00:10:08.50\00:10:10.24 By the way, - [Janice] That's- 00:10:10.24\00:10:11.57 - I've gotta interrupt just for a sec because I- 00:10:11.57\00:10:13.98 - You interrupt me all the time. 00:10:13.98\00:10:15.11 - I do. - What else to do? 00:10:15.11\00:10:16.75 - I caught you on a little something. 00:10:16.75\00:10:18.01 When we talked about the rings or the trees, 00:10:18.01\00:10:20.22 you said something a little bit different 00:10:20.22\00:10:21.68 about genetics of the tree. 00:10:21.68\00:10:23.35 Eh, really in genetics, it's kind of 00:10:23.35\00:10:25.35 the age rings of the tree. 00:10:25.35\00:10:26.92 - Or I was an English major, not a Biology major. 00:10:26.92\00:10:29.86 - There you go. - But as long as we're 00:10:29.86\00:10:31.13 on that pointing out. 00:10:31.13\00:10:32.69 You said a doctor at John Hopkins. 00:10:32.69\00:10:35.76 It's Johns 00:10:35.76\00:10:37.10 Hopkins. - Johns. Yeah okay. 00:10:37.10\00:10:38.00 - So there, we're even. 00:10:38.00\00:10:39.27 - We're corrected and we're even. 00:10:39.27\00:10:40.47 All right, all right. (Janice laughs) 00:10:40.47\00:10:42.00 - But this point is great because when people say, 00:10:42.00\00:10:44.41 I believe in evolution, 00:10:44.41\00:10:45.91 you really need to find out what they mean by that. 00:10:45.91\00:10:48.91 Because all of us believe in evolution. 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.05 I have a little herd of longhaired Doxies at home. 00:10:51.05\00:10:54.55 - That's truth, too. 00:10:54.55\00:10:55.68 Real truth. (laughs) - I know. 00:10:55.68\00:10:57.45 And they're adorable, 00:10:57.45\00:10:58.69 but they were not on the ark. 00:10:58.69\00:11:01.16 Only because Noah, if he'd known about them 00:11:01.16\00:11:03.26 he would've included them because they're so adorable. 00:11:03.26\00:11:06.19 But that's a new breed that didn't used to exist, 00:11:06.19\00:11:10.63 but they're dogs. 00:11:10.63\00:11:11.97 So yes, I believe in microevolution, 00:11:11.97\00:11:14.47 but there's still dogs. 00:11:15.54\00:11:16.64 There's no evidence of macroevolution. 00:11:16.64\00:11:19.37 - It's the dog kind, 00:11:19.37\00:11:20.54 right? - Yes. 00:11:20.54\00:11:21.91 - And that's what God said to take on the ark, the kinds. 00:11:21.91\00:11:25.28 And that's why the ark big enough to fit everything on it. 00:11:25.28\00:11:28.85 - And I've had people say to me, 00:11:28.85\00:11:30.89 "You don't believe in evolution. 00:11:30.89\00:11:32.82 What about the fossil record?" 00:11:32.82\00:11:34.82 And my response is, "What about it?" 00:11:34.82\00:11:37.29 - Yeah. (Janice laughs) 00:11:37.29\00:11:39.76 It wasn't too long ago they discovered 00:11:39.76\00:11:41.16 the Burgess Shale up in Canada. 00:11:41.16\00:11:43.23 - Okay, I've heard, 00:11:43.23\00:11:44.23 okay, Canada. - Burgess Shale. 00:11:44.23\00:11:45.20 - I couldn't quite place it. 00:11:45.20\00:11:46.43 - Massive, massive discovery of all these 00:11:46.43\00:11:49.67 different animals in different layers of rock. 00:11:49.67\00:11:52.97 And guess what? 00:11:52.97\00:11:53.98 After this massive discovery, 00:11:53.98\00:11:56.44 there's still no links. 00:11:56.44\00:11:58.31 A trilobite, through the layers, 00:11:58.31\00:12:00.38 is still a trilobite. 00:12:00.38\00:12:02.22 It just kinda keeps on going and going. 00:12:02.22\00:12:04.12 In China, they found an area way bigger 00:12:04.12\00:12:07.72 than the Burgess Shale 00:12:07.72\00:12:09.46 and everything they've discovered, 00:12:09.46\00:12:11.23 there's no missing links. 00:12:11.23\00:12:12.19 The links are still missing. 00:12:12.19\00:12:13.33 Why? Because there aren't any links. 00:12:13.33\00:12:15.90 The family tree that God created 00:12:15.90\00:12:18.10 is this multi-branch tree here, 00:12:18.10\00:12:20.84 not this one little thing over here, 00:12:20.84\00:12:23.54 some place that goes and then branches 00:12:23.54\00:12:25.24 and branches and branches. 00:12:25.24\00:12:26.68 That didn't the way God made it. 00:12:26.68\00:12:27.78 - Or this branch died out. 00:12:27.78\00:12:29.58 You know, because it was all God's part of His plan 00:12:29.58\00:12:32.61 that most of them would die out, 00:12:32.61\00:12:34.72 is He's working toward creation. 00:12:34.72\00:12:36.69 - And another thing, I know we don't have much time left, 00:12:36.69\00:12:39.05 but a pet thing is God just didn't create stuff 00:12:39.05\00:12:42.49 and then set it on its own, out in eternity, 00:12:42.49\00:12:44.89 and let us fend for ourself. 00:12:44.89\00:12:46.13 - You're not a deist? - No. 00:12:46.13\00:12:48.06 We serve a loving God who cares for us 00:12:48.06\00:12:50.33 and wants to be involved in our life. 00:12:50.33\00:12:52.97 - Very much so. 00:12:52.97\00:12:54.07 - Yeah. 00:12:54.07\00:12:55.74 Glad I got you here to the zork and the zonkies land. 00:12:55.74\00:12:58.67 - Zork? (laughs) - Zork. 00:12:58.67\00:13:01.38 - Read the sign, Jim. 00:13:01.38\00:13:02.41 - Read the sign. - Read the sign, okay. 00:13:02.41\00:13:03.51 (Janice laughs) Well, it's close. 00:13:03.51\00:13:05.05 - Zonky and zorse. 00:13:05.05\00:13:06.15 - Zonky and zorse. 00:13:06.15\00:13:06.98 Yeah, that was close. 00:13:06.98\00:13:07.82 (Janice laughs) 00:13:07.82\00:13:10.02 (soft music) 00:13:10.02\00:13:10.85 During my college years, 00:13:10.85\00:13:12.09 I became a staunch evolutionist. 00:13:12.09\00:13:14.12 I was convinced that we all arose 00:13:14.12\00:13:15.86 from some primordial lose. 00:13:15.86\00:13:17.86 I bought into every argument 00:13:17.86\00:13:19.53 that my professor set before me. 00:13:19.53\00:13:21.60 (chuckles) It wasn't until years later 00:13:21.60\00:13:23.53 that I really realized 00:13:23.53\00:13:25.50 there are actually credible arguments 00:13:25.50\00:13:27.20 for intelligent design. 00:13:27.20\00:13:29.24 I have a pamphlet I think you'll enjoy. 00:13:29.24\00:13:30.87 It's called "Evolution Impossible". 00:13:30.87\00:13:33.64 If your story is like mine, 00:13:33.64\00:13:34.88 go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org 00:13:34.88\00:13:37.11 for your free copy today 00:13:37.11\00:13:38.61 and request offer number 104. 00:13:38.61\00:13:41.38 "Evolution Impossible". 00:13:41.38\00:13:43.45 (soft music) 00:13:45.09\00:13:46.45 - I have really loved being here at the Ark Encounter. 00:13:46.45\00:13:48.76 I'm not tired of it yet. 00:13:48.76\00:13:51.06 I'm especially glad, as we've gone around, 00:13:52.43\00:13:55.06 we keep hearing some great music 00:13:55.06\00:13:56.83 because we happen to be here, 00:13:56.83\00:13:58.43 we picked good timing. 00:13:58.43\00:13:59.83 - We did. 00:13:59.83\00:14:01.00 - Happened to be here during their 00:14:01.00\00:14:02.37 very cleverly named 40 Days and 40 Nights of Gospel Music. 00:14:02.37\00:14:06.17 And I know that I either read or someone told me, 00:14:06.17\00:14:09.38 largest gospel music festival ever. 00:14:09.38\00:14:13.42 - I know a lot of times we can hear the music 00:14:13.42\00:14:15.12 while we're filming. 00:14:15.12\00:14:16.22 - I know, I know. - It's pretty cool. 00:14:16.22\00:14:17.02 - It's hard to concentrate. 00:14:17.02\00:14:18.15 You have to keep, 'cause I'm going, 00:14:18.15\00:14:18.95 ooh, that's pretty toe tapping. 00:14:18.95\00:14:19.49 Who's that now? 00:14:19.49\00:14:21.82 And I've really enjoyed that, 00:14:21.82\00:14:23.26 but we're not here just to be entertained. 00:14:23.26\00:14:26.49 We are not here just to have a good time, 00:14:26.49\00:14:28.76 although we are. 00:14:28.76\00:14:30.10 I brought up a text here that I wanted to read to you 00:14:30.10\00:14:33.90 that is just so appropriate. 00:14:33.90\00:14:35.60 It's in Genesis 00:14:36.47\00:14:38.11 and it's Genesis 6:11-13. 00:14:38.11\00:14:42.28 "Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight 00:14:42.28\00:14:45.01 and was full of violence." 00:14:45.01\00:14:47.25 Sound familiar? 00:14:47.25\00:14:48.85 That part's not in there. 00:14:48.85\00:14:50.95 "God saw how corrupt the earth had become, 00:14:50.95\00:14:53.42 for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 00:14:53.42\00:14:56.76 So God said to Noah, 00:14:56.76\00:14:58.39 'I'm going to put an end to all people, 00:14:58.39\00:15:01.10 for the earth is filled with violence because of them. 00:15:01.10\00:15:04.63 I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth." 00:15:04.63\00:15:08.44 We've talked about before, 00:15:09.50\00:15:10.57 that's why Noah had to build the ark 00:15:10.57\00:15:14.28 because the Earth was full of violence. 00:15:14.28\00:15:17.31 But here's the question, 00:15:17.31\00:15:18.75 might be kind of rhetorical in your case 00:15:18.75\00:15:21.05 but not rhetorical for everybody who's here today. 00:15:21.05\00:15:24.25 Because a lot of people have come just out of curiosity, 00:15:24.25\00:15:27.99 who aren't convinced that it's a real story. 00:15:27.99\00:15:31.66 So it's really important. 00:15:31.66\00:15:34.20 Do you believe in Noah and The Flood? 00:15:34.20\00:15:37.47 - [Jim] It is interesting, Janice, 00:15:38.90\00:15:40.20 when you look at this, 00:15:40.20\00:15:41.77 they built this from the ark. 00:15:41.77\00:15:44.27 From the Bible, this is a pattern that they follow. 00:15:45.67\00:15:49.08 - [Jim] God told them how to build it. 00:15:49.08\00:15:50.21 It just wasn't some idea that Noah had. 00:15:50.21\00:15:52.38 - [Jim] And here it is over 500 feet long. 00:15:52.38\00:15:54.58 Now there's some discrepancy about exactly how long. 00:15:54.58\00:15:57.95 Some of the people maybe looking, 00:15:57.95\00:15:59.39 they're looking in their Bible and said, 00:15:59.39\00:16:00.56 "Well, it was 485 feet or something." 00:16:00.56\00:16:03.19 The difference was, you know- 00:16:03.19\00:16:04.56 - Did you know there were different cubits? 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.09 (Janice laughs) - Yeah. 00:16:06.09\00:16:07.46 - I don't remember that from Math class way back when. 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.60 - Because it's from the tip of your finger to your elbow. 00:16:09.60\00:16:12.23 And that was the length. - And my cubit 00:16:12.23\00:16:13.60 would be a lot. 00:16:13.60\00:16:14.57 My cubit's less than your cubit. 00:16:14.57\00:16:16.50 - [Jim] Unfortunately, I gotta say this, don't hit me. 00:16:16.50\00:16:18.54 It was a man's arm. 00:16:18.54\00:16:20.84 But there was also a royal cubit. 00:16:20.84\00:16:22.61 - [Janice] They were a king's arm. 00:16:22.61\00:16:24.51 - [Jim] King's arm and a little bit different. 00:16:24.51\00:16:26.01 And Moses actually, where did he come from? 00:16:26.01\00:16:28.78 - [Janice] Egypt, mostly. 00:16:29.68\00:16:30.82 - [Jim] Egypt, and his training was royalty. 00:16:30.82\00:16:32.49 So it would believe that probably 00:16:32.49\00:16:34.86 that's where the cubit came from 00:16:34.86\00:16:36.89 because he wrote about it. 00:16:36.89\00:16:37.99 So that's why this one's over 500 feet 00:16:37.99\00:16:40.80 is from that cubit. 00:16:40.80\00:16:42.13 - [Janice] You know, even if it was only 485 feet long, 00:16:42.13\00:16:46.00 it's still impressive. 00:16:46.00\00:16:47.30 - [Jim] Oh, it totally is. 00:16:47.30\00:16:48.67 - [Janice] Those extra few feet, I'm not gonna quibble. 00:16:48.67\00:16:51.01 - [Jim] Now, I've just gotta say this. 00:16:51.01\00:16:53.31 We got the wonderful privilege of going up on the top. 00:16:53.31\00:16:56.28 - [Janice] Oh, you're bragging. 00:16:56.28\00:16:57.55 (Janice laughing) - [Jim] Yeah, I kinda am. 00:16:57.55\00:16:58.61 It was so cool - [Janice] I know. 00:16:58.61\00:16:59.91 - [Jim] to get up on top. 00:16:59.91\00:17:01.02 And you think about Noah up there. 00:17:01.02\00:17:02.98 He didn't get to go up on the roof all the time, 00:17:02.98\00:17:05.52 because for a year this boat is rocking. 00:17:05.52\00:17:07.42 This ship is rocking. 00:17:07.42\00:17:08.79 - [Janice] You would've wanted to be on the roof. 00:17:08.79\00:17:09.92 - [Jim] Yeah. And you think people's come up 00:17:09.92\00:17:12.03 with all kinds of things. 00:17:12.03\00:17:12.99 Well, it couldn't be real? 00:17:12.99\00:17:14.46 And how could it hold all the animals? 00:17:14.46\00:17:16.23 Yet, there's much we'll talk a little bit about that. 00:17:16.23\00:17:20.07 - [Janice] It was one of their purposes in building it, 00:17:20.07\00:17:21.77 showing it could have been done. 00:17:21.77\00:17:23.07 - [Jim] It could have been done, yeah. 00:17:23.07\00:17:24.17 It could hold all the water. 00:17:24.17\00:17:25.37 It could hold all the food. 00:17:25.37\00:17:26.44 It could hold everything. 00:17:26.44\00:17:28.21 But I tell you, the devil doesn't want anybody to know 00:17:29.71\00:17:33.21 that. He didn't want anybody to believe in a flood. 00:17:33.21\00:17:35.92 - [Janice] You know, in fact, I don't know if you remember, 00:17:35.92\00:17:37.72 but when we were touring through inside, 00:17:37.72\00:17:40.99 there was a fabulous sign up there 00:17:40.99\00:17:43.63 and it had this snake wrapped around 00:17:43.63\00:17:46.76 like it was the frame of it. 00:17:46.76\00:17:48.30 - [Jim] Yeah. - [Janice] And it said, 00:17:48.30\00:17:50.13 "If I can convince you that the flood wasn't real, 00:17:50.13\00:17:55.20 I can convince you that heaven and hell aren't real either." 00:17:56.60\00:17:58.57 - Yep, yeah. 00:17:58.57\00:17:59.61 - Yeah, so there is a reason 00:17:59.61\00:18:01.18 why it's important to believe in Genesis. 00:18:01.18\00:18:04.08 Important to believe that if God said 00:18:04.08\00:18:06.21 there was a man named Noah, 00:18:06.21\00:18:07.42 if God said there was a flood, 00:18:07.42\00:18:09.68 if He said, "I saved this family, here's how I did it," 00:18:09.68\00:18:13.29 that you're not just viewing it as an allegory. 00:18:13.29\00:18:16.96 There's a reason. 00:18:16.96\00:18:18.06 It is important to take that literally 00:18:18.06\00:18:20.03 to understand God wasn't joking around. 00:18:20.03\00:18:23.00 He wasn't telling some little children's story. 00:18:23.00\00:18:25.77 Drives me crazy. 00:18:25.77\00:18:26.87 I know you've seen books like this. 00:18:26.87\00:18:28.24 - [Jim] Yeah. 00:18:28.24\00:18:29.30 - [Janice] Even in Christian bookstores, 00:18:29.30\00:18:31.44 maybe especially Christian bookstores 00:18:31.44\00:18:34.08 where they're appealing to little kids. 00:18:34.08\00:18:36.51 So it's cartoonish and you have an adorable little ark 00:18:36.51\00:18:41.58 and giraffe sticking their heads out this window 00:18:42.92\00:18:44.85 and the elephants out this window- 00:18:44.85\00:18:46.82 - And it's not a boat that could probably 00:18:46.82\00:18:47.89 really float either that they draw. 00:18:47.89\00:18:50.26 - No, no. 00:18:50.26\00:18:51.66 But, there's a danger in viewing Noah and the ark 00:18:51.66\00:18:55.30 in that vein. 00:18:55.30\00:18:56.53 There is a danger if that is your idea of it 00:18:56.53\00:19:00.50 rather than this kind of image. 00:19:00.50\00:19:02.77 - Jan, is the sad thing is 00:19:02.77\00:19:04.41 it's Christian parents buying their children 00:19:04.41\00:19:07.14 this kind of thing to program 00:19:07.14\00:19:08.91 that this is all just a myth. 00:19:08.91\00:19:10.91 This never really happened. 00:19:10.91\00:19:13.45 - Because if you're thinking of it 00:19:13.45\00:19:16.85 in the cutey kind of form, 00:19:16.85\00:19:19.42 it's not real. 00:19:19.42\00:19:21.59 You look at those books, 00:19:21.59\00:19:23.02 cute little story, but not real. 00:19:23.02\00:19:25.39 - It's right back to the devil in the gardens. 00:19:25.39\00:19:27.86 "Oh, you know, God really doesn't mean that. 00:19:27.86\00:19:30.70 Go ahead, take of the fruit. 00:19:30.70\00:19:31.97 It's okay." 00:19:31.97\00:19:33.37 - It goes back to where is your foundation? 00:19:33.37\00:19:36.24 Is your foundation in a real God 00:19:36.24\00:19:39.01 who does real powerful things? 00:19:39.01\00:19:41.68 I asked you, do you believe in The Flood? 00:19:43.24\00:19:46.35 I could just as easily ask you, 00:19:46.35\00:19:48.18 do you believe in a real creation? 00:19:48.18\00:19:50.62 That's just as important. 00:19:51.55\00:19:52.95 - Same thing, really. 00:19:52.95\00:19:53.96 Yeah, it's about God. 00:19:53.96\00:19:55.72 And I was thinking, I'd made a little note 00:19:55.72\00:19:57.56 'cause I didn't wanna forget this fellow. 00:19:57.56\00:19:59.59 But in 1872, George Smith basically was called 00:19:59.59\00:20:03.40 by the British Museum to come to a job. 00:20:03.40\00:20:06.50 What was the job? 00:20:06.50\00:20:07.87 Well, for years they had been doing archeology in Nineveh 00:20:07.87\00:20:11.31 and they found all these pieces of pots and stuff, 00:20:11.31\00:20:13.71 and it was just like, they couldn't make heads or tails up. 00:20:13.71\00:20:16.41 They threw it all in boxes, sent it to England. 00:20:16.41\00:20:19.15 When they got to England, 00:20:19.15\00:20:20.22 they didn't bother really packing it well 00:20:20.22\00:20:22.18 and it was little tiny pieces. - No, 00:20:22.18\00:20:22.98 Archeology has become a science, 00:20:22.98\00:20:25.19 but early on, they were destroying 00:20:25.19\00:20:26.92 some really great things. 00:20:26.92\00:20:28.16 - Oh yeah. 00:20:28.16\00:20:29.19 And so it was little teeny pieces. 00:20:29.19\00:20:30.29 And they finally thought, 00:20:30.29\00:20:31.43 maybe we should sometimes see 00:20:31.43\00:20:32.83 what all those little teeny pieces are. 00:20:32.83\00:20:34.93 So they called this guy, 00:20:34.93\00:20:36.40 he went down in the basement 00:20:36.40\00:20:37.83 and he spent 10 years in the basement. 00:20:37.83\00:20:40.57 (Janice laughs) 00:20:40.57\00:20:41.87 He put it all together and guess what it was? 00:20:41.87\00:20:44.01 It was an Assyrian story of The Flood. 00:20:44.01\00:20:47.11 It talked about The Flood. 00:20:47.11\00:20:48.51 And you and I have been in there 00:20:48.51\00:20:50.35 and they've got this beautiful mural 00:20:50.35\00:20:53.11 that shows all the different flood stories. 00:20:53.11\00:20:55.48 - [Janice] Right, from every continent. 00:20:55.48\00:20:57.62 Every continent has people on it 00:20:57.62\00:21:00.22 who had a version of a flood 00:21:00.22\00:21:03.12 and a man saving some animals and some of mankind. 00:21:03.12\00:21:07.76 - Yeah. - And when you have that 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.63 in cultures that were so divergent in location, in time, 00:21:09.63\00:21:14.70 and they're all have this hint of the same root story, 00:21:16.07\00:21:19.74 then you know there's gotta be a real root there. 00:21:21.04\00:21:22.61 - Exactly. 00:21:22.61\00:21:23.48 There's gotta be a seed in there. 00:21:23.48\00:21:25.18 And these are so blatantly 00:21:25.18\00:21:28.35 right there in your face that there was a flood 00:21:28.35\00:21:30.22 in each of these big, major continents and locations 00:21:30.22\00:21:32.85 that something's gotta be happening. 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.52 - What ties 'em all together? - Exactly. 00:21:34.52\00:21:35.32 - What's the common denominator? 00:21:35.32\00:21:37.49 Noah. (laughs) - Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:21:37.49\00:21:39.69 Noah and God's truth, right? 00:21:39.69\00:21:41.70 - Yes. - That what it's all about. 00:21:41.70\00:21:42.90 - There's your foundation, though. 00:21:42.90\00:21:44.37 It's real. 00:21:44.37\00:21:45.27 I think I was so struck. 00:21:45.27\00:21:47.30 I already believed this. 00:21:47.30\00:21:49.24 It's why we came, we're already believers. 00:21:49.24\00:21:51.14 I already believed in a literal creation, a literal flood, 00:21:51.14\00:21:55.14 but when you park and you drive up 00:21:55.14\00:21:57.55 and you get the first glimpse, 00:21:57.55\00:21:59.01 it's like, "Oh wow. 00:21:59.01\00:22:01.85 That is not a little kid's story." 00:22:01.85\00:22:04.35 - Yeah. It's a little bit the same. 00:22:04.35\00:22:06.22 Terry and I have had the great privilege of filming 00:22:06.22\00:22:09.19 a lot in Israel and you get to each one- 00:22:09.19\00:22:11.49 - Go ahead, rub it in. 00:22:11.49\00:22:12.56 Rub it in. - I know, just a little more. 00:22:12.56\00:22:14.60 And all of a sudden it's all real. 00:22:14.60\00:22:17.03 The Bible comes alive and that's what it is here. 00:22:17.03\00:22:19.40 All of a sudden it comes alive. 00:22:19.40\00:22:21.14 I mean, they could really do it. 00:22:21.14\00:22:23.30 Noah could really build this thing. 00:22:23.30\00:22:25.64 This one can't float, but that one could. 00:22:25.64\00:22:27.74 Engineers have proven it. 00:22:29.04\00:22:31.28 And so it's pretty amazing 00:22:31.28\00:22:32.71 that we find ourselves here in this situation, 00:22:32.71\00:22:34.95 looking at this, and really asking the audience, 00:22:34.95\00:22:37.65 do you believe? 00:22:37.65\00:22:38.89 Do you believe in this? 00:22:38.89\00:22:39.85 Well, it's right there. 00:22:39.85\00:22:41.86 - And God has given us a lot of evidence. 00:22:41.86\00:22:45.26 He doesn't just ask us blind faith. 00:22:45.26\00:22:47.60 Yes, I believe because you said it, 00:22:48.73\00:22:51.13 but that's the only evidence I have. 00:22:51.13\00:22:53.13 I mean, even if it were, 00:22:53.13\00:22:54.44 if that was all you had, was God's Word, 00:22:54.44\00:22:56.17 that's plenty. 00:22:56.17\00:22:57.81 But He's very kind to us 00:22:57.81\00:22:59.31 and also gives us evidence in the world around us today. 00:22:59.31\00:23:03.45 - Very true. 00:23:03.45\00:23:04.78 You look at years ago when I was a total atheist 00:23:04.78\00:23:08.08 and didn't think anything about God, 00:23:08.08\00:23:10.35 I got to the Grand Canyon and I looked at that. 00:23:10.35\00:23:13.22 The massive Grand Canyon and this teeny river 00:23:13.22\00:23:16.59 all the way down on the bottom. 00:23:16.59\00:23:18.36 And then they said that river formed this whole thing. 00:23:18.36\00:23:22.03 And I think, "Seriously?" 00:23:22.03\00:23:23.60 (Janice laughs) 00:23:23.60\00:23:25.50 I can't believe that. 00:23:25.50\00:23:26.90 I just cannot believe that. 00:23:26.90\00:23:28.30 But that's you add enough time, 00:23:28.30\00:23:30.51 why, anything can happen, right? 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.34 - I think, I honestly believe there are people 00:23:32.34\00:23:35.41 who have not thought about it closely enough. 00:23:35.41\00:23:38.75 It's almost like, 00:23:38.75\00:23:41.15 I remember seeing a cartoon 00:23:41.15\00:23:42.42 with this like Albert Einstein character 00:23:42.42\00:23:44.95 writing on a chalkboard. 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.49 These Math formulas, Physics stuff all over, 00:23:46.49\00:23:49.06 and then there's this gap 00:23:49.06\00:23:50.86 and then there's more of it. 00:23:50.86\00:23:52.23 And in between it says, "and then there was a miracle," 00:23:52.23\00:23:55.50 (laughs) and then here. 00:23:55.50\00:23:57.00 Because we don't know what's connecting this to this, 00:23:57.00\00:23:59.57 but it had to have happened. 00:23:59.57\00:24:01.40 And then there was a million years. 00:24:01.40\00:24:02.90 - It's like all the old cartographer maps. 00:24:02.90\00:24:05.21 They didn't know what's here so here are dragons. 00:24:05.21\00:24:06.81 Right here are dragons (Janice laughs) 00:24:06.81\00:24:08.48 in the map. 00:24:08.48\00:24:09.58 - [Janice] And there are people who just think, 00:24:09.58\00:24:10.58 "Well, pile on another million years, 00:24:10.58\00:24:11.91 that solves it." - [Jim] Yeah. 00:24:11.91\00:24:13.85 - Or if a million you don't think that was enough, 00:24:13.85\00:24:15.82 put a B on it, billion. 00:24:15.82\00:24:17.45 There, problem solved. 00:24:17.45\00:24:18.82 - But you know, people need to know this was real then 00:24:18.82\00:24:23.22 and it's real now. 00:24:23.22\00:24:25.13 And everything we see, 00:24:25.13\00:24:26.83 all you have to do is go out and look for the evidence. 00:24:26.83\00:24:29.56 The evidence is everywhere. 00:24:29.56\00:24:31.47 Absolutely everywhere. 00:24:31.47\00:24:32.80 - All right. 00:24:32.80\00:24:33.74 (Jim chuckles) 00:24:33.74\00:24:36.94 (soft music) 00:24:36.94\00:24:37.84 During my college years, 00:24:37.84\00:24:39.11 I became a staunch evolutionist. 00:24:39.11\00:24:41.14 I was convinced that we all arose 00:24:41.14\00:24:42.88 from some primordial lose. 00:24:42.88\00:24:44.91 I bought into every argument 00:24:44.91\00:24:46.55 that my professor set before me. 00:24:46.55\00:24:48.58 (chuckles) It wasn't until years later 00:24:48.58\00:24:50.55 that I really realized 00:24:50.55\00:24:52.55 there are actually credible arguments 00:24:52.55\00:24:54.22 for intelligent design. 00:24:54.22\00:24:56.26 I have a pamphlet I think you'll enjoy. 00:24:56.26\00:24:57.89 It's called "Evolution Impossible". 00:24:57.89\00:25:00.70 If your story is like mine, 00:25:00.70\00:25:01.86 go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org 00:25:01.86\00:25:04.10 for your free copy today 00:25:04.10\00:25:05.60 and request offer number 104. 00:25:05.60\00:25:08.40 "Evolution Impossible". 00:25:08.40\00:25:10.47 (soft music) 00:25:12.51\00:25:13.81 - I felt like Satan was constantly nipping at my heels 00:25:13.81\00:25:15.94 and I just couldn't catch my breath. 00:25:15.94\00:25:18.21 I was grieving. 00:25:18.21\00:25:19.58 I felt scared, confused, anxious, and depressed. 00:25:19.58\00:25:24.02 My life was literally turned upside down and falling apart. 00:25:24.02\00:25:28.32 I didn't know what to do, 00:25:28.32\00:25:30.13 but I knew who had the answers. 00:25:30.13\00:25:32.33 Can you relate?
