Well, my parents did
their best to raise me

and I they grew up
in the Christian Church,

and went through the
Christian schools and all that.

But somewhere along
the way, I got interested

in some of this darker
stuff, and that's why I have

the piercings in the
tattoos and went into that world

for a little bit.

- And that building behind us

with the very interesting
artwork, it has a slogan on

there, without my glasses I
have a dream, or I had a dream.

And I understand that
was part of your journey.

dream to be big and famous,

whether that was at one point,
it was to be in a metal band,

and then when I
started performing over here,

it was because of rap music.

And that was where I
was really seeing success.

But when I tell my
story, you'll see where God

kind of opened my eyes
and I had to change things.

I had to change my path because
of where he was leading me.

into the darker things,

but just so the audience kinda
knows really the power of God

to bring you from where
you were to where you ar now.

parents they'd put me

in vacation Bible
school in and Hawanas,

which is like a little
it's like vacation Bible school.

And so I had the
knowledge of who God was,

and that I was a
sinner that needed a savior,
00:03:09.88\00:03:12.49
and that was Jesus
Christ who came to earth.

And at age nine,
probably I remember
00:03:14.29\00:03:17.23
my mom was inside transcribing
the sermon for that week,
00:03:17.23\00:03:22.06
and I thought that was boring
so I was sitting in the car,
00:03:22.06\00:03:24.53
and at that moment, that was
like my age of accountability,
00:03:24.53\00:03:27.64
I just started realizing that
I am a sinner who can't earn
00:03:27.64\00:03:31.54
my way to heaven
and I need Jesus.
00:03:31.54\00:03:33.98
And that moment I
invited Christ into my heart,
00:03:33.98\00:03:35.98
I even cried, and when
she came out, I told my mom,
00:03:35.98\00:03:39.01
I accepted Christ.
00:03:39.01\00:03:40.48
Had to been the
best day of her life,
00:03:40.48\00:03:41.92
her son accepted Jesus Christ.
00:03:41.92\00:03:43.72
And so we were going
through some different churches,

my parents were raised Baptist,
00:03:48.32\00:03:49.62
so we went to Baptist churches,
but then we started seeing
00:03:49.62\00:03:51.83
my cousins church,
it was a lot more rowdy,
00:03:51.83\00:03:54.46
there was raising a hands,
and shouting, and dancing,
00:03:54.46\00:03:58.40
and we were like,
wow, God's moving here.
00:03:58.40\00:04:00.07
So we started going
to that church because
00:04:00.07\00:04:02.44
it looked like
things were happening there.
00:04:02.44\00:04:04.71
And so I started
going to youth group there,
00:04:04.71\00:04:07.11
which was really rowdy, people
were mosh pitting for Jesus,
00:04:07.11\00:04:11.68
head banging for Christ.
00:04:11.68\00:04:13.78
So there was like Christian
metal music and stuff like that,
00:04:13.78\00:04:17.35
but at least I was surrounded
by people who feared God,
00:04:17.35\00:04:20.49
believed in God, were
going on mission trips,
00:04:20.49\00:04:22.76
And so I was around
influences that were believers,
00:04:22.76\00:04:27.60
but around age 12,
00:04:27.60\00:04:29.50
I started having some
real skeptical thoughts.
00:04:29.50\00:04:31.70
Like if God said,
thou shall not murder,
00:04:31.70\00:04:35.64
why did he murder the
entire world with a flood?
00:04:35.64\00:04:37.87
And I would ask
Christians these questions
00:04:37.87\00:04:40.61
that seem real tough
because I was a skeptic,
00:04:40.61\00:04:43.01
and I was a
true seeker honestly,
00:04:43.01\00:04:46.15
from as far as I can remember.
00:04:46.15\00:04:48.72
And Christians just
didn't seem to have good answers
00:04:48.72\00:04:50.82
for these tough
questions that I would have.

And I was really
intrigued by the paranormal.

I was in a public school system
and I would check out books
00:04:54.86\00:04:59.93
in elementary school, in the
nonfiction section about ghosts
00:05:01.30\00:05:03.83
and aliens and UFOs,
and I would see photographs
00:05:03.83\00:05:06.03
that's like, wow, this
is a photograph of a ghost,
00:05:06.03\00:05:08.60
this is a photograph of
an alien, it wasn't fiction,

it wasn't cartoons, and so I
was really intrigued by that,
00:05:10.61\00:05:14.64
and that was the type of things
00:05:14.64\00:05:16.04
that Christians didn't
have good answers for me either.

So I started to think,
man, it seems like Christians
00:05:18.28\00:05:20.78
are just really
narrow minded, and ignorant,

and if they don't understand
it, or it looks weird,

well, it must be of
the devil or it's wrong.

And I couldn't
accept that, I was like,

there's people who are
playing with Ouija boards,

and they're getting
information from the other side
00:05:32.56\00:05:35.00
or whatever so I
just about age 13,
00:05:35.00\00:05:38.60
just kind of checked
out from Christianity,
00:05:38.60\00:05:40.80
even though I
accepted Christ at nine,
00:05:40.80\00:05:43.07
and I had this
zeal for a little while,

the Christians kind of
dropped the ball on giving me

the answers that
I was looking for.

Ouija boards and some of that.

- Yeah, eventually I
started getting into that stuff

because media is very powerful,
and people wanna believe

that they're in control of
their thoughts and all that,

but corporations spend billions
of dollars on a 15 second ad

during the super bowl or
whatever because it works.

When they know when you
drive by that billboard,

you're gonna want that
snicker bar or whatever.
00:06:11.57\00:06:13.74
So I was watching things
I wasn't supposed to watch.

My parents actually tried to
protect me from watching MTV,

and rated R movies,
and violent video games,

and stuff like that, but
I started getting to the age

where I could stay the
night at people's houses,
00:06:26.51\00:06:28.78
I could stay home when
they went to the store,

and that's the
first thing I'd do.

And I saw Marilyn Manson, you
probably don't know who he is,

just really impacted my life.

I looked at him and I was
like, that's what I wanna be,

I don't know what it
was, what the draw was,

but we're all drawn
to sin in different ways.

And for me it was something

about that shocking,
edgy, thing that I wanted.

And so then a movie
came out called "The Craft"

and this was, it made
witchcraft look very glamorous,

it made it look very realistic,
it wasn't Harry Potter,

Disney special
effects, this made it look real.
00:07:47.30\00:07:50.13
And so that intrigued me.
00:07:50.13\00:07:51.53
And so the internet was
kind of new, and I started going
00:07:51.53\00:07:54.40
to these forums and finding
out how do you cast spells
00:07:54.40\00:07:56.97
and all this stuff?

And I was just really drawn
to that because like I said,

the Christians
didn't have the answers,
00:08:00.91\00:08:02.28
but this looked like these
people did have the answers.

all over the
world, and it is real.

We've been in those places,
we've seen those things happen,

the devil in
all he does is real.

it just didn't work for
me, but I was still attracted

to that edgy dark side of it.

And so me and my friend, we
formed a band that was very much

like this music and it
was a industrial Gothic band.

And I just wanted.

were blasting the crucifixion

me it wasn't a reality to me,

but I was like, what can I say,

reaction out of people?

And so I was even making
my band mate uncomfortable

with this stuff 'cause
we were living a small town

in Georgia,
majority of the population

at least claimed Christianity,
00:09:51.92\00:09:53.49
whether their
lifestyle reflected or not,

you ask them, are a Christian?

Oh yeah, I'm going
to heaven and all that.
00:09:56.62\00:09:58.83
And so I was on this journey,
00:09:58.83\00:10:01.76
and mainly I was
plagued with the thoughts

of what is this life all about?

I mean, my mind was plagued
with, what does it matter

if I become the
world's biggest rock star,

a rocket scientist, or a
jailbird for my whole life?

If the end result of
this thing is just death,

and being gone,
what is all this for?

You know to me, it is
like, it didn't matter

what I lived for.

And so I was
plagued with this thought.

And so I tried to have a more,

not so depressing
outlook on it I thought, well,

I got one life to
live, let's have fun,

so that meant drinking, smoking,
fornicating, everything,

just filling the
desires of my flesh.

- And a lot of that
happened to this club

right behind you there?
00:10:44.51\00:10:45.37
- That's right.

And so I was living that
lifestyle for a long time.

Totally unfulfilled, the
cult didn't bring fulfillment,

didn't bring peace,

all I knew I was just
living this loop of escapism

like I'd wake up, and
well, I'm sober again,
00:10:58.52\00:11:00.59
I gotta get drunk again,

and so I was just living
this lifestyle of escape.

And then my
parents got a divorce,
00:11:05.66\00:11:07.86
I was probably 18 years
old and me and my father wanted
00:11:07.86\00:11:12.83
to move back here to Chattanooga
away from South Georgia.
00:11:12.83\00:11:16.04
But to me that was just
one more depressing thing
00:11:16.04\00:11:18.71
in my life.
00:11:18.71\00:11:19.61
And my cousin drove
five hours to help us move,
00:11:20.71\00:11:23.68
he had a pickup truck
and he drove five hours
00:11:23.68\00:11:26.25
to load up his pickup truck,
00:11:26.25\00:11:28.12
and I got stuck in the cab
with him, when I say stuck,
00:11:28.12\00:11:30.85
I don't mean like I
didn't wanna be there,
00:11:30.85\00:11:32.22
I just mean like he
had me for five hours.

I love my cousin, I
looked up to my cousin.

And while we were packing, I
heard him sharing his testimony

with my mother, I was like,
wow, my cousin is a Christian,

I hadn't seen him
in a couple of years,

and he's sharing his testimony
and this was intriguing me.

One thing my mom, I always
have to share my mom's testimony
00:11:49.27\00:11:52.67
when I tell mine because
she grew up in fear every day,
00:11:52.67\00:11:56.54
she was raised in a church
and in school that taught you,
00:11:56.54\00:12:00.08
if you don't say
this little prayer,
00:12:00.08\00:12:01.32
you're gonna burn for
eternity, it's never gonna end.
00:12:01.32\00:12:04.02
And she had a
student, a classmate,
00:12:04.02\00:12:07.19
that would come in that
got burned in a house fire.
00:12:07.19\00:12:09.59
And she said, it just
looked monstrous to her,
00:12:09.59\00:12:11.36
and that girl would
still have pains years later
00:12:11.36\00:12:14.46
because the scars just
hit the nerves and stuff,
00:12:14.46\00:12:17.47
and my mom was
terrified of fire.
00:12:17.47\00:12:19.90
And so all her
life, she was told,
00:12:19.90\00:12:21.57
if you don't say this
prayer, you're gonna die
00:12:21.57\00:12:23.57
and burn hell forever.
00:12:23.57\00:12:25.24
And so every single
night from elementary school

into her adulthood, she
would lay down at night,
00:12:28.74\00:12:31.31
and she'd say, Lord, please
come into my life and save me,
00:12:31.31\00:12:34.22
'cause I sure don't
wanna die and go to hell.
00:12:34.22\00:12:35.92
And that was her full
motivation for becoming
00:12:35.92\00:12:38.35
a Christian, was fear.
00:12:38.35\00:12:40.72
And God gets no pleasure
out of fear based conversion,
00:12:40.72\00:12:43.02
He wants us to come to him
out of love, He's our creator,
00:12:43.02\00:12:45.96
He gave us all this
world, and He gave us life,
00:12:45.96\00:12:49.00
and he wants to experience
true love from us, not fear.
00:12:49.00\00:12:52.00
- And you can't love
someone that you're afraid of.

- I know and so,

in my mom's adulthood, she
was just trying to find out

how can I get salvation?

How can I have assurance?

And so in this rowdy
church that we started going to,

she started being witnessed
to by my cousin's parents,

and so we started going
up there like every day,

she'd take my dad to
work and we'd go up there,
00:13:13.42\00:13:15.16
and I thought it was a
blast 'cause I got to hang out
00:13:15.16\00:13:16.86
with my cousins, but my
uncle was witnessing to my mom,

and she just couldn't
understand, how do I believe?

How do I know this is real?
00:13:23.16\00:13:25.50
And so one day before he
left, before my mom left,

he just kept reading scripture,

scripture, scripture, scripture,
can't get better than that,

that's the best
thing he could have done.

And he read one
verse and it was like,

God stopped her
right there and she said,

it's sounded like my
uncle tuned out like a radio

in the background, and she said,

"What was that verse
you just read about believe?

He said it's, "If
thou can't believe,
00:13:46.92\00:13:49.32
all things are
possible to him that believeth."

And that verse
triggered something to my mom.
00:13:51.46\00:13:54.10
