00:00:57.72\00:01:00.19 - Yeah, absolutely, anybody that knows me knows 00:01:00.19\00:01:03.09 that baseball was a big part of my life. 00:01:03.09\00:01:05.36 It was something that helped me through 00:01:05.36\00:01:06.49 a lot of difficult times in my life. 00:01:06.49\00:01:08.20 It's something that I was very passionate about, 00:01:08.20\00:01:09.93 to say that I was consumed by it would be an understatement. 00:01:09.93\00:01:12.87 I identify with baseball. 00:01:12.87\00:01:15.30 You see, I started up in a very loving family. 00:01:15.30\00:01:18.11 Started out in life with a Christian family 00:01:18.11\00:01:20.21 that showed me a lot of good values, 00:01:20.21\00:01:21.31 and they began to show me the ways of life. 00:01:21.31\00:01:23.28 And I never thought that there was anything 00:01:23.28\00:01:24.65 really wrong with me, with the way that they raised me. 00:01:24.65\00:01:28.08 You see, I was born 00:01:28.08\00:01:29.55 with something called claeidocranial dysplasia 00:01:29.55\00:01:31.82 dysostosis. - [Janice] Which I've never heard of. 00:01:31.82\00:01:32.89 - Yeah, and there's a lot about it. 00:01:32.89\00:01:34.66 And I'll just say it's CCD from now on, 00:01:34.66\00:01:38.83 so that you know what I'm talking about. 00:01:38.83\00:01:40.56 But basically, I didn't have any collarbones. 00:01:40.56\00:01:43.67 I had a hole in my head here and here in my sagittal suture, 00:01:43.67\00:01:47.10 which is an open fontanelle directly to my brain. 00:01:47.10\00:01:49.84 I've had 45 teeth pulled out of my mouth. 00:01:49.84\00:01:51.94 - 45, how many do we have in our head? 00:01:51.94\00:01:53.68 - I didn't think we had that many. 00:01:53.68\00:01:56.18 - A lot, a lot, and I have hip dysplasia, 00:01:56.18\00:01:59.48 just to say a few things that are wrong with me. 00:01:59.48\00:02:01.88 Medical doctor said there's about 00:02:01.88\00:02:02.95 a hundred things that are wrong with me. 00:02:02.95\00:02:04.79 - Seriously? 00:02:04.79\00:02:06.09 - And I'm one in a million in the case 00:02:06.09\00:02:07.79 of the syndrome that I have. 00:02:07.79\00:02:10.03 But I didn't really realize that I had an issue with me. 00:02:10.03\00:02:13.83 It was until I got to school, 00:02:13.83\00:02:16.00 and I began to show kids what I was made of 00:02:16.00\00:02:18.63 and what was wrong with me. 00:02:18.63\00:02:20.04 And I'd show them things like putting my shoulders together. 00:02:20.04\00:02:22.80 I'm gonna show you what I do so you can see what it's like, 00:02:22.80\00:02:26.01 but I can do this. 00:02:26.01\00:02:28.04 I know, and in that moment you had a feeling, 00:02:29.98\00:02:32.28 you had something that you just saw. 00:02:32.28\00:02:34.68 And the kids, they would identify me as weird, 00:02:34.68\00:02:37.72 gross, strange. 00:02:37.72\00:02:39.92 And I'd be getting all these labels 00:02:39.92\00:02:41.56 that I began to identify as. 00:02:41.56\00:02:43.46 - So in your family, you never felt different. 00:02:43.46\00:02:46.06 You go to school, 00:02:46.06\00:02:47.40 and now you feel like you're the odd man out. 00:02:47.40\00:02:49.63 - That's right, that's right. 00:02:49.63\00:02:51.27 But my dad, with the love of sports, showed me baseball. 00:02:51.27\00:02:55.14 And baseball is what I began to hide behind, 00:02:55.14\00:02:58.21 and it was like a warm cloak. 00:02:58.21\00:03:00.11 And I changed my identification from gross, not wanted, 00:03:00.11\00:03:05.05 into someone that could play baseball. 00:03:06.15\00:03:08.25 And I began to play baseball 00:03:08.25\00:03:10.42 all the way through high school, 00:03:10.42\00:03:11.89 and it was something that I excelled at. 00:03:11.89\00:03:14.16 - I noticed, you've actually, on that Louisville Slugger, 00:03:14.16\00:03:16.32 you've got your name on the bat. 00:03:16.32\00:03:17.83 - Yeah. 00:03:17.83\00:03:18.63 - Not everybody has that. 00:03:18.63\00:03:19.93 - No, yeah, I had a friend that made it for me. 00:03:19.93\00:03:21.60 Went to Kentucky to make it for me, 00:03:21.60\00:03:24.57 and that was very nice of him. 00:03:24.57\00:03:26.40 But yeah, it's something that I excelled at 00:03:26.40\00:03:29.30 and played all the way through high school. 00:03:29.30\00:03:31.07 And it opened up a new opportunity for me to go to 00:03:31.07\00:03:34.41 college. I don't know if you've ever heard of it, 00:03:34.41\00:03:35.68 but a school called Columbia Union College, CUC, 00:03:35.68\00:03:37.98 offered me a scholarship to play 00:03:38.98\00:03:40.52 at the NCAA Division II level. 00:03:40.52\00:03:43.05 Where some elite athletes get to play 00:03:43.05\00:03:45.32 at their perspective sports. 00:03:45.32\00:03:47.22 - So you were good? 00:03:47.22\00:03:48.76 - I was pretty good. 00:03:48.76\00:03:49.86 I don't like to brag about myself, 00:03:49.86\00:03:52.49 but yeah, I played at a pretty high level. 00:03:52.49\00:03:54.63 Well, while I was at that school, 00:03:55.83\00:03:57.33 I was exposed to something that changed my life forever. 00:03:57.33\00:04:00.70 And that was at this school, it was a Christian school, 00:04:00.70\00:04:05.04 and they made you do some worships. 00:04:05.04\00:04:08.31 And at these worships, you got credit for 'em. 00:04:08.31\00:04:10.55 Well, I didn't know what was going on. 00:04:10.55\00:04:12.41 So I walked into the church, 00:04:12.41\00:04:13.72 sat in the back where I normally sat. 00:04:13.72\00:04:15.62 And I look up on the screen, 00:04:15.62\00:04:16.82 and this thing called "Net '98". 00:04:16.82\00:04:18.82 And I thought, what in the world is that? 00:04:18.82\00:04:21.29 And this guy, Dwight Nelson, 00:04:21.29\00:04:23.06 he was up there and he began to tell a story. 00:04:23.06\00:04:25.66 And I thought he was talking directly to me. 00:04:25.66\00:04:27.96 I don't know if you've ever had that experience, 00:04:29.30\00:04:30.83 where you've been in a crowd of people 00:04:30.83\00:04:32.97 and somebody begins to speak, and it could be to anybody, 00:04:32.97\00:04:35.27 but they're talking to you at your heart. 00:04:35.27\00:04:37.01 That's the experience that I just felt. 00:04:37.01\00:04:38.74 - That was God. 00:04:38.74\00:04:39.74 - And it was, I believe it was. 00:04:39.74\00:04:41.78 - What was he saying that made you feel like, 00:04:41.78\00:04:43.78 "This is for me?" 00:04:43.78\00:04:45.05 - I couldn't tell you everything that Dwight Nelson said, 00:04:45.05\00:04:46.82 but what I locked on to was he said that, 00:04:46.82\00:04:48.88 "You're beautifully and wonderfully made." 00:04:48.88\00:04:51.05 And that, "God has a purpose and a plan for your life." 00:04:52.42\00:04:54.92 And it began to change my perspective 00:04:54.92\00:04:57.26 on who I am, and what I was born with. 00:04:57.26\00:05:00.43 I began to see all this grossness that I began to hide. 00:05:00.43\00:05:03.73 I didn't tell my family and my parents 00:05:03.73\00:05:05.47 the things that people said to me. 00:05:05.47\00:05:07.00 I kept that all in my heart. 00:05:07.00\00:05:09.17 And I felt safe at home, 00:05:09.17\00:05:11.47 but I always held onto that baggage, 00:05:11.47\00:05:13.21 those labels, those things that people would say 00:05:13.21\00:05:15.51 that were mean and hurtful towards me. 00:05:15.51\00:05:17.75 And I began to see that Christ had a plan for me 00:05:17.75\00:05:20.52 with this message that Dwight Nelson was saying. 00:05:20.52\00:05:23.72 Well, at the end of this talk, I walked up front. 00:05:23.72\00:05:27.76 Well, there was an altar call, 00:05:27.76\00:05:29.92 and I immediately get out of my seat. 00:05:29.92\00:05:32.83 And I get up and I walked straight to the front. 00:05:32.83\00:05:34.66 And these two pastors come right towards me. 00:05:34.66\00:05:36.70 I think I was the only one at the front of this church. 00:05:36.70\00:05:39.67 And when I get up there, they asked me, 00:05:39.67\00:05:41.70 "Do you wanna pray, and do you wanna get baptized?" 00:05:41.70\00:05:44.44 I said, "Absolutely, let's do this." 00:05:44.44\00:05:46.57 So I get the opportunity to sign a little card. 00:05:47.68\00:05:50.35 I walked out of the church, up Flower Avenue, 00:05:50.35\00:05:53.01 if you're familiar with Tacoma Park's campus. 00:05:53.01\00:05:55.88 Towards Morrison Hall, 00:05:55.88\00:05:57.52 and I don't wanna go into the boys' dorm yet 00:05:57.52\00:05:59.05 'cause I'm still chewing on everything 00:05:59.05\00:06:00.36 that he's saying to me. 00:06:00.36\00:06:01.79 I walk across the street into the commons area, 00:06:01.79\00:06:04.73 by Weis's Library, and there's this little flower patch. 00:06:04.73\00:06:08.16 And then it hit me, 00:06:08.93\00:06:10.00 and I realized the plan that God has for me. 00:06:11.07\00:06:14.14 That I am beautifully and wonderfully made, 00:06:14.14\00:06:16.54 and that I'm perfect for his ministry. 00:06:16.54\00:06:18.64 And I just fall to my knees and I began to cry 00:06:19.74\00:06:22.21 and bear my heart to the Lord, 00:06:22.21\00:06:23.61 and asked Him to take all that baggage, 00:06:23.61\00:06:25.95 all that pain, all that stuff that I was holding onto, 00:06:25.95\00:06:28.92 and I gave it to Him. 00:06:28.92\00:06:30.29 And I pray that you get to have that same opportunity, 00:06:30.29\00:06:32.35 where you get to be real and raw with the Lord. 00:06:32.35\00:06:35.29 - But now, I've gotta tell you, 00:06:35.29\00:06:38.23 Janice is getting slightly older, I'm not saying, 00:06:38.23\00:06:40.76 but maybe we ought to go sit down in the bleachers 00:06:40.76\00:06:43.33 and hear the rest of your story. 00:06:43.33\00:06:44.77 - Okay, let's do that. 00:06:44.77\00:06:45.57 - That'd be appropriate for me. 00:06:45.57\00:06:46.97 I spent most of my softball career on the bench anyway, 00:06:46.97\00:06:49.90 so I feel right at home. 00:06:49.90\00:06:52.04 - Sounds good. 00:06:52.04\00:06:52.87 - [Chad] All right. 00:06:52.87\00:06:54.14 - Sounds good, appreciate you sharing, man. 00:06:54.14\00:06:55.88 - [Chad] Yeah, absolutely. 00:06:55.88\00:06:57.48 - The great Catholic monk, Martin Luther, 00:06:59.05\00:07:01.42 was so concerned with his salvation, 00:07:01.42\00:07:03.99 that when in Rome, 00:07:03.99\00:07:05.35 he climbed the holy stairs on his knees to earn salvation. 00:07:05.35\00:07:09.89 But when he reached the top, 00:07:10.69\00:07:12.33 God flashed a Bible verse before his mind. 00:07:12.33\00:07:15.23 "The just shall live by faith." 00:07:15.23\00:07:18.07 That brings me to the title of a free pamphlet 00:07:18.07\00:07:20.90 that I'd like to give you. 00:07:20.90\00:07:22.60 It's called, "Am I Good Enough?" 00:07:22.60\00:07:25.37 It's easy to get your copy. 00:07:25.37\00:07:27.28 Go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org, 00:07:27.28\00:07:30.85 and order offer 107, "Am I Good Enough?" 00:07:30.85\00:07:35.22 It will be a comfort for you. 00:07:35.22\00:07:37.79 - I have to admit, 00:07:40.32\00:07:41.46 I will never get used to Tennessee humidity, 00:07:41.46\00:07:44.66 but it's a little easier to take sitting down. 00:07:44.66\00:07:47.03 - That's true, this is very true. 00:07:48.10\00:07:49.50 - I don't know how you live here. 00:07:49.50\00:07:51.37 - Well, my parents moved here, 00:07:51.37\00:07:52.73 and we decided to come and live with my in-laws 00:07:52.73\00:07:56.47 and we could be closer together. 00:07:57.51\00:07:59.17 - Chad, we kind of left you in the garden. 00:08:00.28\00:08:02.01 I wanna hear the rest of that story. 00:08:02.01\00:08:04.08 - Yeah, I had just dedicated my life to the Lord 00:08:04.08\00:08:08.32 and knew that I had a purpose for Him. 00:08:08.32\00:08:10.92 But your identity is what you allow people to see. 00:08:10.92\00:08:14.12 And I wasn't prepared for everybody to see 00:08:14.12\00:08:16.39 what I was so raw and real with with myself. 00:08:16.39\00:08:19.73 And I continued to be dedicated to my game of baseball. 00:08:19.73\00:08:22.96 And I played there at CUC for the rest of my time, 00:08:22.96\00:08:25.87 until I graduated, and I was quite successful. 00:08:25.87\00:08:28.97 I was the USCAA player of the week, 00:08:28.97\00:08:30.94 which is the league that we played in. 00:08:30.94\00:08:33.54 I was an All-American nominee. 00:08:33.54\00:08:34.84 I wasn't the All-American, but I was nominated. 00:08:34.84\00:08:37.61 So I was part of the top crowd in there. 00:08:37.61\00:08:39.68 I was an MVP of my team multiple times, 00:08:39.68\00:08:41.85 and I was the captain as well. 00:08:41.85\00:08:43.62 So I had a lot of success with baseball, 00:08:43.62\00:08:46.29 but when I graduated, 00:08:46.29\00:08:47.69 I didn't have a plan B, it was baseball all the way. 00:08:47.69\00:08:51.53 And so when I continue to play some baseball, 00:08:51.53\00:08:54.20 I had to try out with a couple of teams, 00:08:54.20\00:08:55.76 and it wasn't really going anywhere. 00:08:55.76\00:08:57.17 And finally, the Chicago Cubs gave me one last opportunity. 00:08:57.17\00:09:00.90 And I was there trying out for their minor league team. 00:09:00.90\00:09:03.67 I was there for five days, 00:09:03.67\00:09:04.77 and they came up to me and they said, 00:09:04.77\00:09:05.57 "Look, you're not what we need. 00:09:05.57\00:09:07.38 "Thank you for coming, we'll see you later." 00:09:07.38\00:09:10.31 And that was devastating to me. 00:09:10.31\00:09:12.01 - I was gonna say, what does that do to you, 00:09:12.01\00:09:13.45 when your whole focus is baseball 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.05 and baseball doesn't come through. 00:09:16.05\00:09:17.75 - Yeah, with no plan B. 00:09:17.75\00:09:19.35 - I gotta tell ya, he did come up with another plan. 00:09:19.35\00:09:22.46 He wrote a book about those experiences. 00:09:23.63\00:09:25.96 And why don't you tell us a little bit about that. 00:09:25.96\00:09:28.66 - [Janice] It was a little bit of a shift of focus. 00:09:28.66\00:09:29.90 - A real shift, yeah. 00:09:29.90\00:09:31.77 - Yeah, that book was something that came about 00:09:31.77\00:09:35.17 about my life and some of my experiences 00:09:35.17\00:09:37.74 that I go into throughout my life in the military. 00:09:37.74\00:09:40.98 And it was an inspiration 00:09:40.98\00:09:42.08 that was brought on by some of my students 00:09:42.08\00:09:43.68 that I used to teach back in Milo, in Oregon. 00:09:43.68\00:09:47.45 - Chad, help me out, military, 00:09:47.45\00:09:49.62 with all of the things you listed tested wrong with you? 00:09:49.62\00:09:52.59 - Yeah, so I don't make it into the baseball realm. 00:09:53.96\00:09:57.19 I go into depression, I bounce around from job to job, 00:09:57.19\00:09:59.93 not really sure where I'm going with my life. 00:09:59.93\00:10:01.96 And I find myself homeless, living in a garage, 00:10:01.96\00:10:05.13 outside of a worm factory. 00:10:05.13\00:10:06.90 Literally printed on the side, "Worm Factory". 00:10:06.90\00:10:10.91 And my brother calls me out of the blue. 00:10:10.91\00:10:14.34 And he says, "Chad, what are you doing with your life?" 00:10:14.34\00:10:16.88 And I said, "Well, I'm thinking about investing 00:10:16.88\00:10:19.31 "in some worm poop, what do you think of that idea?" 00:10:19.31\00:10:22.72 My brother, he laughed, and he's like, 00:10:22.72\00:10:24.19 "Yeah, you might be able to do that. 00:10:24.19\00:10:26.22 "But you ought to think about going into the military. 00:10:26.22\00:10:28.49 "You're still young, you got a lot of energy. 00:10:28.49\00:10:30.59 "You've got a lot to offer. 00:10:30.59\00:10:32.39 "You ought to explore that opportunity. 00:10:32.39\00:10:34.76 "The special forces has some opportunities for bonuses, 00:10:34.76\00:10:38.00 "and they could pay you quite a bit of money." 00:10:38.00\00:10:40.37 And I thought about that, thought about that. 00:10:40.37\00:10:42.47 And I get off the phone with him, telling him, 00:10:42.47\00:10:44.04 "Well, I'm still thinking about the worm poop idea", 00:10:44.04\00:10:47.44 but I let him go, and I said, 00:10:47.44\00:10:50.11 "You know what, this is not the end game for me. 00:10:50.11\00:10:52.98 "I'm not gonna stay here. 00:10:52.98\00:10:54.52 "I'm gonna get off the bench, and I'm gonna go somewhere." 00:10:54.52\00:10:56.58 And with that said, 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.12 we need people in our lives that I consider swim buddies. 00:10:58.12\00:11:00.69 That are willing to call us out of the funk that we're in. 00:11:00.69\00:11:03.29 And they recognize the potential that we have. 00:11:03.29\00:11:06.26 Christ Himself did the same thing to the woman at the well. 00:11:06.26\00:11:09.26 When He called that woman, who was a Samaritan, 00:11:11.17\00:11:13.90 He said, "You have more to offer. 00:11:13.90\00:11:15.50 "And if you're looking for the water of life, 00:11:15.50\00:11:18.11 "I'm right here, I have that potential for you." 00:11:18.11\00:11:20.91 And she becomes the first gospel messenger, 00:11:20.91\00:11:23.28 telling people about Jesus Christ as she goes into Samaria. 00:11:23.28\00:11:26.85 Well, my brother did the same thing for me. 00:11:27.95\00:11:29.28 He said, "Chad, go do something with your life. 00:11:29.28\00:11:30.99 "Get off the bench, get out of the factory, 00:11:30.99\00:11:33.69 "the worm factory, and go do something." 00:11:33.69\00:11:36.12 So I go and enlist in the United States Navy. 00:11:36.12\00:11:39.19 And I took four months off. 00:11:39.19\00:11:40.86 I quit my job and began to train, and invest my time, 00:11:40.86\00:11:44.23 and my effort into something 00:11:44.23\00:11:45.80 that I was about to get myself into. 00:11:45.80\00:11:47.70 I changed my diet, I changed my workout regiment. 00:11:47.70\00:11:50.74 I began to consume my knowledge 00:11:50.74\00:11:52.74 with the people that I'm gonna be around, 00:11:52.74\00:11:54.94 and the things that I'm going to be doing. 00:11:54.94\00:11:57.28 To the point where I knew that I was ready to go in. 00:11:57.28\00:12:00.25 Now, there's another lesson there, 00:12:00.25\00:12:01.62 that we can't just jump into things that we just wanna do. 00:12:01.62\00:12:05.29 You have to have a preparation time. 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.49 You gotta pour your heart and soul into things, 00:12:07.49\00:12:10.33 and understand what you're getting yourself into 00:12:10.33\00:12:13.40 before you jump in, 00:12:13.40\00:12:14.73 because you might fail not knowing what's ahead of you. 00:12:14.73\00:12:17.33 So I go through a medical examination, which is called 00:12:18.83\00:12:22.97 MEPS. And they just check you over to make sure that you're 00:12:22.97\00:12:25.07 alive. - And you passed? 00:12:25.07\00:12:26.21 - Yeah, so they just basically asked me, 00:12:26.21\00:12:28.88 "Do you have anything that would keep you 00:12:28.88\00:12:30.35 "from doing your job?" 00:12:30.35\00:12:31.45 And I said, "No, there's nothing wrong with me 00:12:31.45\00:12:34.02 "that's gonna keep me from doing my job." 00:12:34.02\00:12:35.88 - I love that response. 00:12:35.88\00:12:37.29 - Yeah. 00:12:37.29\00:12:38.09 - And so they passed me through 00:12:38.09\00:12:39.69 the initial medical examination. 00:12:39.69\00:12:42.12 Well, since I had a special warfare contract, 00:12:42.12\00:12:44.83 I had to go through a deeper medical examination 00:12:44.83\00:12:47.73 when I got to Chicago, it's called the dive physical. 00:12:47.73\00:12:50.53 And they do an x-ray of your body, and they look inside you. 00:12:50.53\00:12:53.84 I pray that no one ever gets to look inside of you 00:12:53.84\00:12:55.67 and see what's wrong with you, but they did that to me. 00:12:55.67\00:12:58.84 And I got pulled out of the line of the guys 00:12:58.84\00:13:00.98 that were going through to get their medical examination. 00:13:00.98\00:13:04.58 And the Lieutenant put me at the end of the line 00:13:04.58\00:13:06.21 and he said, "Just sit here, Lambie." 00:13:06.21\00:13:08.45 And so I get through all the people, 00:13:08.45\00:13:11.45 they all go back to the barracks. 00:13:11.45\00:13:13.15 Then the doctor went to the instructors and said, 00:13:15.26\00:13:18.36 "Hey, we're going to keep Lambie here. 00:13:18.36\00:13:20.40 "We need to talk with him." 00:13:20.40\00:13:21.46 I knew something was up right then and there. 00:13:21.46\00:13:24.10 And so he pulls me into the office and he says, 00:13:24.10\00:13:27.27 "Lambie, are you sure you wanna go into the special forces? 00:13:27.27\00:13:30.97 "Is this something that you think 00:13:30.97\00:13:32.07 "you're going to be able to do?" 00:13:32.07\00:13:33.58 "Absolutely, I've been working out, 00:13:33.58\00:13:35.11 "I've been dedicating my life. 00:13:35.11\00:13:36.48 "I've been put forth a ton of effort 00:13:36.48\00:13:38.35 "so that I can go do this opportunity 00:13:38.35\00:13:40.72 "in the special warfare community." 00:13:40.72\00:13:43.08 He said, "Are you aware that you don't have collarbones?" 00:13:43.08\00:13:45.89 (Janice and Jim laugh) 00:13:45.89\00:13:47.02 Yeah. 00:13:47.02\00:13:48.09 - Did you sit there and go, "What?" 00:13:48.09\00:13:49.96 - "I'm aware I don't have collarbones. 00:13:51.06\00:13:53.63 "But it hasn't done anything to keep me from my goals." 00:13:55.06\00:13:58.30 He said, "Well, wait here, I can't make this decision. 00:13:58.30\00:14:00.10 "I gotta go get the commander." 00:14:00.10\00:14:01.60 So he leaves the room, goes and gets the commander 00:14:01.60\00:14:04.07 that's in charge of the medical facility. 00:14:04.07\00:14:06.27 And he comes walking in with my medical record in his hands, 00:14:06.27\00:14:09.44 he looks at me and he said, 00:14:09.44\00:14:10.81 "Chad, I see that you wanna be a special warfare operator. 00:14:10.81\00:14:14.98 "Are you sure you're gonna be able to do this?" 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.25 I said, "Sir, I've been training my body. 00:14:17.25\00:14:19.95 "I've met every standard that's been required of me so far. 00:14:19.95\00:14:22.86 "And I would just love the opportunity 00:14:22.86\00:14:24.46 "to get the chance to try out. 00:14:24.46\00:14:26.93 "And I know that you have that capability." 00:14:26.93\00:14:29.53 And he opens up my medical record, 00:14:29.53\00:14:31.30 and he goes to my physical readiness test scores. 00:14:31.30\00:14:33.84 And he sees my pushups, my sit-ups, 00:14:34.87\00:14:36.77 my pull-ups, my swim, and my run. 00:14:36.77\00:14:39.34 He says, "Wow, you've got some outstanding numbers here. 00:14:39.34\00:14:41.38 "You've got elevated numbers." 00:14:41.38\00:14:43.31 And I was in the top four percentile 00:14:43.31\00:14:45.21 of the guys that I was going through with. 00:14:45.21\00:14:47.65 And I just didn't leave anything to question. 00:14:47.65\00:14:50.45 I had poured a ton of effort 00:14:50.45\00:14:51.92 and a ton of time into preparation for this. 00:14:51.92\00:14:54.39 And he said, "I don't know if you're aware of this, 00:14:55.76\00:14:56.99 "but the military has a rule 00:14:56.99\00:14:58.39 "that they don't allow people in if they're missing a bone." 00:14:58.39\00:15:01.23 "But I'm gonna sign a waiver for you 00:15:01.23\00:15:02.60 "that allows you to go for your dream, your goals. 00:15:02.60\00:15:05.97 "That you wanna be in the military." 00:15:05.97\00:15:08.74 I said, "Thank you, I really appreciate that." 00:15:08.74\00:15:11.04 And he signs it, 00:15:11.04\00:15:12.11 and they take some pictures of me putting 00:15:12.11\00:15:13.44 my shoulders together for their medical records. 00:15:13.44\00:15:16.24 - Wow. 00:15:16.24\00:15:17.31 - So that they knew what they were allowing 00:15:17.31\00:15:19.91 to go through the doors. 00:15:19.91\00:15:21.32 And I walked away and I understood, 00:15:22.65\00:15:24.22 wow, if I didn't go through the preparation process, 00:15:24.22\00:15:26.92 if I didn't pour my heart into this, 00:15:26.92\00:15:28.99 then I could have left so much on the table. 00:15:28.99\00:15:31.13 We have another story of that in the Bible with Moses. 00:15:31.13\00:15:33.96 Moses had an opportunity to be a leader 00:15:33.96\00:15:37.30 for the Israelite nation. 00:15:37.30\00:15:39.07 He was called to save the Israelites 00:15:40.14\00:15:43.10 And when he put the plan for God in his own hands, 00:15:43.10\00:15:48.18 he ends up killing an Egyptian. 00:15:48.98\00:15:49.84 He then has to go out into the wilderness for 40 years, 00:15:51.21\00:15:54.68 and it takes 40 years of preparation 00:15:55.75\00:15:57.29 before he's ready to do what God intended him to do. 00:15:57.29\00:16:00.06 I pray no one has to go through 40 years of preparation, 00:16:00.06\00:16:03.22 but there I was, four months preparation, 00:16:03.22\00:16:06.33 and I'm meeting what I wanted to do. 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.56 Well, that led to an opportunity 00:16:09.36\00:16:11.23 to go to Special Warfare Combatant Craft School 00:16:11.23\00:16:14.10 in Cornado California, San Diego. 00:16:14.10\00:16:17.14 This is the special warfare community 00:16:17.14\00:16:19.44 that I was trying out for. 00:16:19.44\00:16:20.81 Well, when I got there, I was put on a slab. 00:16:22.01\00:16:24.55 A concrete slab, 00:16:24.55\00:16:25.91 on hold because there was another class going through. 00:16:25.91\00:16:28.75 There wasn't enough room for us to get into there, 00:16:30.12\00:16:31.82 so we were sitting there, 00:16:31.82\00:16:32.92 and we would work out and prepare 00:16:32.92\00:16:34.92 for the opportunities to try out. 00:16:34.92\00:16:37.43 Well, every Friday, they had approved yourself Friday. 00:16:37.43\00:16:40.33 And basically we do pushups, pull ups. 00:16:40.33\00:16:42.60 But on this particular day, 00:16:42.60\00:16:44.33 we were going to do flutter kicks. 00:16:44.33\00:16:46.10 Flutter kicks, you lay down in a horizontal position, 00:16:46.10\00:16:48.77 and your feet are six inches off the ground, 00:16:48.77\00:16:51.14 and they go up 18 inches. 00:16:51.14\00:16:52.81 And they go in intervals 00:16:52.81\00:16:54.08 until your stomach is totally exhausted. 00:16:55.14\00:16:58.31 For me, two, don't you think? 00:16:58.31\00:17:00.62 - Yeah. 00:17:00.62\00:17:01.68 - I challenge anybody to do 100 of 'em, 00:17:01.68\00:17:03.69 and it would be quite an achievement 00:17:03.69\00:17:06.55 to be able to do 100 four count flutter kicks. 00:17:06.55\00:17:08.66 And four count basically means, 00:17:08.66\00:17:10.13 1, 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 2, until you're exhausted. 00:17:10.13\00:17:15.16 Well, this particular day we had 30 guys lined up, 00:17:17.00\00:17:19.03 and we were starting this competition. 00:17:19.03\00:17:22.10 30 guys get to a hundred, and we're down to five. 00:17:22.10\00:17:26.71 And five guys, we get to about 200, 00:17:26.71\00:17:29.74 and it's just me and Mike Corvelli, 00:17:29.74\00:17:31.75 we're just dropping off like flies. 00:17:31.75\00:17:33.95 And Mike Corvelli and I are pushing each other along, 00:17:33.95\00:17:36.02 encouraging each other, and he gets 250. 00:17:36.02\00:17:39.09 Now, let me remind you that 250 is the maximum 00:17:39.09\00:17:41.99 that anybody had ever done while on hold, waiting. 00:17:41.99\00:17:45.23 So it's quite an achievement just to get to 250. 00:17:45.23\00:17:48.40 And he quits, he says, "Lambie, get to 300, you got this." 00:17:48.40\00:17:52.40 And I thought to myself, all right, no problem. 00:17:52.40\00:17:54.24 Let's keep going. 00:17:54.24\00:17:55.64 And all of a sudden, all these guys heard what was going on. 00:17:55.64\00:17:57.81 And they began to gather around 00:17:57.81\00:17:59.71 and see me go through this pain and agony 00:17:59.71\00:18:01.94 I was just putting myself through for no reason 00:18:01.94\00:18:04.51 'cause I'd already won the competition. 00:18:04.51\00:18:06.35 And they kept encouraging me and encouraging me. 00:18:06.35\00:18:08.98 And one of them said, when I almost got to 300, 00:18:08.98\00:18:10.69 he's like, "Oh, he's gonna get 300 no problem. 00:18:10.69\00:18:12.65 "Lambie, you gotta get 400." 00:18:12.65\00:18:15.02 And I'm not even focused on a number, 00:18:15.02\00:18:16.69 I'm just going through the pain, 00:18:16.69\00:18:18.26 and just going through the focus. 00:18:18.26\00:18:19.86 And then just being lifted up by the encouragement 00:18:19.86\00:18:22.33 and comradery that's going on with my buddies around me. 00:18:22.33\00:18:26.00 And they're pushing me and pushing me, 00:18:26.00\00:18:27.04 and I'm getting closer to 400. 00:18:27.04\00:18:28.57 And finally, one of them said, 00:18:28.57\00:18:29.70 "Lambie, you need to get 500." 00:18:29.70\00:18:31.61 And that's when it hit me, I got laser focused on 500. 00:18:31.61\00:18:35.78 - And that's twice what anybody had ever done before. 00:18:35.78\00:18:38.68 - Yeah, it was something that was insurmountable. 00:18:38.68\00:18:41.42 It was something that wasn't even discussed. 00:18:41.42\00:18:44.19 Why would anybody go 500 four count flutter kicks, 00:18:44.19\00:18:46.45 it's just crazy. 00:18:46.45\00:18:48.09 But I got focused on this number. 00:18:48.09\00:18:49.82 I'm in the fight, I'm not gonna quit. 00:18:50.93\00:18:52.89 I'm gonna go for this number. 00:18:52.89\00:18:54.46 So I push myself, and push myself, and push myself, 00:18:54.46\00:18:57.07 till I get to 499, 500, and my body just quit. 00:18:57.07\00:19:02.14 And the guys picked me up, 00:19:02.94\00:19:04.27 and I go through this great congratulations from these guys, 00:19:04.27\00:19:08.08 and they really made me feel good. 00:19:08.08\00:19:09.21 But the real thing that I pulled away 00:19:09.21\00:19:11.18 from that whole experience, was when I was sitting by myself 00:19:11.18\00:19:14.58 and I was thinking about it. 00:19:14.58\00:19:16.32 And I said, "Wow, what if I didn't put a limit on myself? 00:19:16.32\00:19:19.79 "Could I have achieved more, could I have kept going." 00:19:19.79\00:19:22.56 - If you weren't focused on 500? 00:19:22.56\00:19:24.43 - Yeah, I put a wall on myself, a limit on myself. 00:19:24.43\00:19:27.50 And so once I hit that number, I just totally collapsed. 00:19:27.50\00:19:30.07 I quit, it was like my body just gave up. 00:19:30.07\00:19:32.83 And we definitely do that in our own walks in life. 00:19:34.24\00:19:36.74 We give up, 00:19:36.74\00:19:38.11 we have these limitations that we give ourselves. 00:19:38.11\00:19:40.31 And when we focus on what God has in our lives, 00:19:40.31\00:19:42.51 He can see so much more potential than we have to offer. 00:19:42.51\00:19:45.58 We always hold ourselves back 00:19:45.58\00:19:47.22 from what we're totally able to achieve. 00:19:47.22\00:19:49.45 - Now, Chad, we can't just leave you there. 00:19:49.45\00:19:51.22 We've gotta hear the rest of the story, 00:19:51.22\00:19:52.99 and you got about three minutes. 00:19:52.99\00:19:53.82 - Okay, so we move on, 00:19:53.82\00:19:57.03 we get through that perseverance and the comradery. 00:19:57.03\00:20:00.33 And I get an opportunity to class up. 00:20:00.33\00:20:03.37 Now, I got a paddle over here that I wanna grab, 00:20:03.37\00:20:05.37 if that's all right. 00:20:05.37\00:20:07.14 - We're gonna see that in a minute, 00:20:07.14\00:20:08.44 but I kind of wanna hear, how did you end up? 00:20:08.44\00:20:10.44 I mean, did you find God through all of this, 00:20:10.44\00:20:12.41 or what happened? 00:20:12.41\00:20:13.31 - Once you found Him there in college, 00:20:14.91\00:20:17.01 did you hold onto Him the whole time? 00:20:18.11\00:20:20.55 - God was in my life all the way through. 00:20:20.55\00:20:23.35 And I began to see glimmers of Him 00:20:23.35\00:20:25.35 as I'm going through the special forces. 00:20:25.35\00:20:27.42 And I knew that I needed to put God in my life. 00:20:27.42\00:20:30.06 And I began to go to church again. 00:20:30.06\00:20:32.09 I had actually walked away from God 00:20:32.09\00:20:34.00 when I hit my lowest point, 00:20:34.00\00:20:36.16 and I wasn't going to church for a long time. 00:20:36.16\00:20:37.83 And then little by little life, as I came back, 00:20:37.83\00:20:40.20 being in the military, and I said, 00:20:40.20\00:20:42.04 "You know what, I need the Lord back in my life." 00:20:42.04\00:20:43.37 And so I did go to church, 00:20:43.37\00:20:44.94 and I started to be around the people that I needed 00:20:44.94\00:20:48.61 The encouragement, the comradery, the swim buddies, 00:20:48.61\00:20:51.61 keeping me accountable for what I'm doing. 00:20:51.61\00:20:53.48 - How many years did you spend in the military? 00:20:53.48\00:20:55.32 - I was in there for six years 00:20:55.32\00:20:56.58 - [Jim] Six years. 00:20:56.58\00:20:57.89 - Six years, and I spent a lot of it 00:20:57.89\00:21:00.36 in the Special Warfare Combat-Craft Crewman team 00:21:00.36\00:21:04.06 at Special Boat Team 22 in Mississippi. 00:21:05.33\00:21:07.76 - What does that mean for all of us really? 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.83 I mean, what does that really mean? 00:21:09.83\00:21:11.93 - Special Warfare Combat-Craft Crewman 00:21:11.93\00:21:13.74 is a brother in line with Navy Seals. 00:21:13.74\00:21:18.01 Everybody has heard of the Navy Seal community, 00:21:18.01\00:21:19.97 but most people haven't heard 00:21:19.97\00:21:21.04 of Special Warfare Combat-Craft Crewmen. 00:21:21.04\00:21:23.61 We are the boat insert extract platform, 00:21:23.61\00:21:27.18 per Seals and other ranger battalions. 00:21:27.18\00:21:29.82 And we give them safe passage in and out of harm's way. 00:21:29.82\00:21:33.89 And so there's two special warfare communities, 00:21:33.89\00:21:37.96 Seals and SWIC, and everything else is special operations. 00:21:37.96\00:21:41.50 So it's an elite fighting force, 00:21:41.50\00:21:43.10 there's about 700 hundred of them in the United States Navy. 00:21:43.10\00:21:46.00 - Now, six years, 00:21:46.00\00:21:47.57 did you have any urge to go on any further, do any more? 00:21:47.57\00:21:50.17 - I did, but I met my wife. 00:21:50.17\00:21:52.54 - That'll do it. 00:21:52.54\00:21:53.51 - And she changed my life. 00:21:53.51\00:21:55.01 She changed my life, 00:21:55.01\00:21:56.51 and we decided that we didn't wanna stay in the service. 00:21:56.51\00:21:59.01 See, the problem was I got married 00:21:59.01\00:22:00.28 when I was in the military, 00:22:00.28\00:22:01.78 and I was away from my wife more than I was with her. 00:22:01.78\00:22:05.15 And she was my now new swim buddy, 00:22:05.15\00:22:07.06 helping me keep accountable and closer to the Lord. 00:22:07.06\00:22:10.16 And we knew that I needed to get out 00:22:10.16\00:22:12.83 in order to begin to be an influence 00:22:12.83\00:22:14.93 for people in their lives. 00:22:14.93\00:22:16.70 - [Jim] Okay. 00:22:16.70\00:22:17.50 - And so then after six years, 00:22:17.50\00:22:19.20 I turned in my time slip, 00:22:19.20\00:22:22.60 and I was able to get my DD 214, 00:22:22.60\00:22:24.27 which is my exit paperwork. 00:22:24.27\00:22:26.91 It allowed me to get out of the United States military. 00:22:26.91\00:22:28.94 - And since then, say, we've just got very few 00:22:28.94\00:22:31.55 because we want to hear about your paddle too. 00:22:31.55\00:22:33.52 - [Chad] Yes, sir. 00:22:33.52\00:22:34.62 - But quickly, you started a ministry? 00:22:34.62\00:22:36.69 - Yeah, it's No Excuses, and I wrote my book. 00:22:36.69\00:22:39.55 And it's helping people overcome adversity in their lives. 00:22:39.55\00:22:42.92 And I'm willing to give them the formulas 00:22:42.92\00:22:45.69 that I learned while I was in the special forces and life, 00:22:45.69\00:22:48.70 going through the adversity that I went through. 00:22:48.70\00:22:50.70 Helping people realize that there is no limit, 00:22:50.70\00:22:53.23 that there's so much more potential 00:22:53.23\00:22:55.34 that we're leaving out there, 00:22:55.34\00:22:56.81 and we're not allowing God to work through us. 00:22:56.81\00:22:58.27 - It's so amazing, I mean, 00:22:58.27\00:22:59.74 I look at you like almost a Superman. 00:23:00.94\00:23:02.84 With the way your body is, and what you did in life. 00:23:02.84\00:23:05.01 It's gotta be all God, right? 00:23:05.01\00:23:07.18 - To God be the glory. 00:23:07.18\00:23:08.82 I looked at what I was born with as a curse. 00:23:08.82\00:23:11.62 And then it wasn't until God made me realize 00:23:11.62\00:23:14.26 that there is potential for me, 00:23:14.26\00:23:15.92 and there is a purpose for me in my life. 00:23:15.92\00:23:18.16 That it transformed that curse into a ministry, 00:23:18.16\00:23:22.36 into a positive experience for young people 00:23:22.36\00:23:25.83 and all people alike. 00:23:25.83\00:23:27.50 - Well, we've gotta hear about this paddle. 00:23:27.50\00:23:28.97 - I know, the baseball bat, 00:23:28.97\00:23:30.74 when he got out and he has a bat, that I can understand, 00:23:30.74\00:23:33.61 because one thing I knew about him was 00:23:33.61\00:23:35.18 he used to be a ballplayer. 00:23:35.18\00:23:36.61 Or still is, I shouldn't use the past tense, 00:23:36.61\00:23:38.81 but you know what I mean. 00:23:38.81\00:23:40.45 And then he had a paddle, I'm going, is that a paddle? 00:23:40.45\00:23:43.75 I'm trying to figure out, is he carrying a paddle? 00:23:43.75\00:23:45.82 - He is, let's go check out the paddle. 00:23:45.82\00:23:47.66 - [Chad] All right. 00:23:47.66\00:23:48.69 - The great Catholic monk, Martin Luther, 00:23:50.23\00:23:52.56 was so concerned with his salvation, 00:23:52.56\00:23:55.20 that when in Rome, 00:23:55.20\00:23:56.73 he climbed the holy stairs on his knees to earn salvation. 00:23:56.73\00:24:01.04 But when he reached the top, 00:24:01.84\00:24:03.41 God flashed a Bible verse before his mind. 00:24:03.41\00:24:06.37 "The just shall live by faith." 00:24:06.37\00:24:09.21 That brings me to the title of a free pamphlet 00:24:09.21\00:24:12.05 that I'd like to give you. 00:24:12.05\00:24:13.78 It's called, "Am I Good Enough?" 00:24:13.78\00:24:16.52 It's easy to get your copy. 00:24:16.52\00:24:18.42 Go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org, 00:24:18.42\00:24:21.99 and order offer 107. 00:24:21.99\00:24:24.79 "Am I Good Enough", it will be a comfort for you. 00:24:24.79\00:24:28.93 - [Janice] I saw it when he got out of the van. 00:24:57.63\00:24:59.36 - [Jim] Beautiful. 00:24:59.36\00:25:00.53 - Yeah, the paddle is very significant 00:25:00.53\00:25:02.73 for us when we go through training. 00:25:02.73\00:25:04.70 Because it's something that we have 00:25:04.70\00:25:06.43 to carry with us everywhere we go. 00:25:06.43\00:25:08.90 It's what directs us and propels us when we're in our boats. 00:25:08.90\00:25:12.84 But we have our names inscribed on it, 00:25:12.84\00:25:15.58 and then it's all uniform black. 00:25:15.58\00:25:17.38 And whenever we would sit it down, 00:25:17.38\00:25:18.98 we'd set it down on our equipment. 00:25:18.98\00:25:22.22 And the instructor staff, 00:25:22.22\00:25:23.35 if they didn't like what we were doing, 00:25:23.35\00:25:25.05 they would come up, 00:25:25.05\00:25:26.25 and they couldn't reprimand us physically, 00:25:26.25\00:25:27.82 they couldn't hit us. 00:25:27.82\00:25:28.96 So they'd grab your paddle, 00:25:28.96\00:25:30.33 and they'd begin to beat it against a rock or a tree. 00:25:30.33\00:25:33.29 And it would begin to chip and gouge, 00:25:33.29\00:25:35.00 and create pot marks all over it. 00:25:35.00\00:25:36.87 - I can see that. 00:25:36.87\00:25:37.93 - Yeah, it would be not in the shape 00:25:37.93\00:25:40.80 that it was intended for. 00:25:40.80\00:25:42.17 And it was your job to pick up all the pieces, 00:25:42.17\00:25:44.81 go home, and get some wood putty, 00:25:44.81\00:25:47.24 and begin to put wood putty back into all the holes, 00:25:47.24\00:25:50.31 the cracks, and the imperfections. 00:25:50.31\00:25:52.58 Then you had to sand down the paddle 00:25:53.65\00:25:55.48 till it was nice and smooth. 00:25:55.48\00:25:57.45 Then you had to take paint and recover that whole paddle 00:25:57.45\00:26:00.69 so that it was back to its original purpose, 00:26:00.69\00:26:02.89 not just a hunk of wood. 00:26:02.89\00:26:04.73 And this is hugely impactful in my walk in life, 00:26:04.73\00:26:07.96 because we all have cracks, we all have holes, 00:26:07.96\00:26:11.10 we have divots all over us. 00:26:11.10\00:26:13.77 Well, what are we filling those divots in with? 00:26:13.77\00:26:15.90 What are we filling those cracks in with? 00:26:15.90\00:26:17.71 People sometimes go to drugs, they go to pornography, 00:26:17.71\00:26:20.04 they go to a lot of different things. 00:26:20.04\00:26:21.58 But really, what is most important is the Holy Spirit. 00:26:21.58\00:26:24.48 To put the Holy Spirit in our lives, and it begins to bond, 00:26:24.48\00:26:26.92 and it's not right away, it takes time. 00:26:26.92\00:26:29.32 And once it adheres, you're not done, 00:26:29.32\00:26:33.02 because you have pieces that are sticking up. 00:26:33.02\00:26:35.02 You gotta sand it down. 00:26:35.02\00:26:36.79 We have to go through a purification process, 00:26:36.79\00:26:39.39 a walking with Jesus process, 00:26:39.39\00:26:42.26 and begin to get it nice and smooth. 00:26:42.26\00:26:44.27 And then finally, you get to have that final coat. 00:26:44.27\00:26:47.50 So that it's back, and you can't see the scars, 00:26:47.50\00:26:50.31 and that's the character of Christ. 00:26:50.31\00:26:52.74 - Amen. 00:26:52.74\00:26:54.14 - And once you, you have the character of Christ on you, 00:26:54.14\00:26:55.54 they no longer see your name on here, but it's Christian. 00:26:55.54\00:26:58.45 And so when they see the intended purpose, 00:26:59.55\00:27:00.88 they don't see Chad Lambie, they see Christian. 00:27:00.88\00:27:03.69 Exuding the character of Christ, 00:27:03.69\00:27:05.39 that has been covered over with the character of God 00:27:05.39\00:27:09.36 by the Holy Spirit. - Amen. 00:27:09.36\00:27:10.83 Chad, I wanna thank you today, 00:27:10.83\00:27:12.13 it's incredible, your story. 00:27:12.13\00:27:13.70 - I'm getting the book. 00:27:16.80\00:27:18.23 - Yeah. 00:27:18.23\00:27:19.27 -
