(soft upbeat music) 00:00:00.50\00:00:03.20 - Welcome, everyone. 00:00:03.83\00:00:05.23 We're excited to share some country wisdom with you. 00:00:05.23\00:00:07.44 - King Solomon had a thing or two to say 00:00:07.44\00:00:09.60 about the path to wisdom. 00:00:09.60\00:00:11.47 In Proverbs 4, he wrote, 00:00:11.47\00:00:13.54 "Let your eyes look directly forward 00:00:13.54\00:00:15.91 and your gaze be straight before you. 00:00:15.91\00:00:19.01 Keep straight the path of your feet 00:00:19.01\00:00:21.35 and all your ways will be sure." 00:00:21.35\00:00:23.62 - Join us now for "Country Wisdom". 00:00:23.62\00:00:25.65 (soft upbeat music continues) 00:00:26.32\00:00:30.33 (thunder rambling) 00:00:33.76\00:00:35.80 (gentle ancient music) 00:00:35.80\00:00:39.03 - There's a storm coming. 00:00:46.01\00:00:47.61 That means any minute now 00:00:49.41\00:00:51.78 my grandchildren will start appearing. 00:00:51.78\00:00:54.78 The little ones first, 00:00:54.78\00:00:56.69 but the older ones won't be far behind. 00:00:56.69\00:00:59.25 All of them scrambling for the safety of grandma's lap. 00:00:59.25\00:01:04.16 They know their grandmother isn't afraid of any storm. 00:01:05.29\00:01:08.16 And soon one of them is bound to ask to hear it again. 00:01:09.30\00:01:12.87 The story of the Great Storm. 00:01:12.87\00:01:16.20 How God decided to rid his world of evil, 00:01:16.20\00:01:20.04 how he decided to send the rain, 00:01:20.88\00:01:23.61 and how we asked grandpa Noah to build a boat. 00:01:24.71\00:01:28.98 (gentle ancient music continues) 00:01:28.98\00:01:33.25 - Tim, thank you for being with us today. 00:02:00.15\00:02:02.15 There, I wanna introduce you to Tim Chaffey, 00:02:02.15\00:02:04.55 content director or content manager? 00:02:05.49\00:02:07.52 - Content manager, yep. 00:02:07.52\00:02:08.46 - Content manager of The Ark. 00:02:08.46\00:02:10.19 - Yeah. (all laughing) 00:02:10.19\00:02:11.43 - That's incredible. 00:02:11.43\00:02:12.89 - That sounds pretty cool when you say it like that. 00:02:12.89\00:02:14.30 - Oh, yeah, it's a... - Noah could have used him. 00:02:14.30\00:02:15.46 (Tim laughing) 00:02:15.46\00:02:16.40 - Yes, absolutely, absolutely. 00:02:16.40\00:02:17.53 - No, he was busy building things. 00:02:17.53\00:02:18.67 I just write things. 00:02:18.67\00:02:19.60 (Tim and Janice laughing) 00:02:19.60\00:02:20.60 - You have three master's degrees 00:02:20.60\00:02:22.74 and I guess you're working on a doctorate too. 00:02:22.74\00:02:24.61 - Yes. 00:02:24.61\00:02:25.41 - What's the area? 00:02:25.41\00:02:26.88 Because people wonder, content management, what is that? 00:02:26.88\00:02:29.11 - Well, I'm responsible for researching 00:02:29.11\00:02:31.31 and writing the signage that you read 00:02:31.31\00:02:32.75 when you go through the Ark Encounter 00:02:32.75\00:02:34.22 or through the Creation Museum, 00:02:34.22\00:02:35.55 our sister facility, about 40 miles from here. 00:02:35.55\00:02:38.25 And so, I work with an incredible team. 00:02:38.25\00:02:40.12 I've got an assistant 00:02:40.12\00:02:41.36 who kinda handles all things animal-related. 00:02:41.36\00:02:42.92 So he sticks his nose in fossil books all day long. 00:02:42.92\00:02:45.89 How boring, but he loves it. 00:02:45.89\00:02:47.66 And that's great. 00:02:47.66\00:02:49.23 You know, God brought the right person for the job. 00:02:49.23\00:02:50.53 And then I get to do what I love to do, 00:02:50.53\00:02:52.13 and that is to study God's word 00:02:52.13\00:02:54.07 and, you know, figure things out. 00:02:54.07\00:02:56.37 How are we gonna teach this important message 00:02:56.37\00:02:58.67 to the people coming through? 00:02:58.67\00:02:59.94 - I've gotta tell you, I've read several of your books, 00:02:59.94\00:03:01.74 including your "Noah" trilogy. 00:03:01.74\00:03:03.18 - Oh, thank you. 00:03:03.18\00:03:04.31 - Which is particularly appropriate today. 00:03:04.31\00:03:05.71 - Yeah, it's kind of like the official backstory 00:03:05.71\00:03:07.52 for Noah and his family at the Ark Encounter, yeah. 00:03:07.52\00:03:08.75 - Right. 00:03:08.75\00:03:09.98 And I'm trying not to do a full-on fan girl here. 00:03:09.98\00:03:12.62 (Tim and Jim laughing) 00:03:12.62\00:03:13.79 So like, it's Tim Chaffey. 00:03:13.79\00:03:15.36 (all laughing) 00:03:15.36\00:03:16.59 Because of my age, that would not be dignified. 00:03:16.59\00:03:18.19 (Tim laughing) So I'm trying to pretend like, 00:03:18.19\00:03:20.13 oh, I talk to people like this all the time. 00:03:20.13\00:03:21.96 (Tim and Jim laughing) 00:03:21.96\00:03:23.13 It's normal. 00:03:23.13\00:03:23.97 - Oh, I'm flattered. 00:03:23.97\00:03:24.97 (Tim laughing) 00:03:24.97\00:03:26.40 - Now, it is interesting, in Genesis, chapter six, you know, 00:03:26.40\00:03:29.64 basically God said, "Noah, the whole Earth is evil. 00:03:29.64\00:03:33.81 I'm going to destroy it by a flood, 00:03:33.81\00:03:35.64 so make an Ark of gopher wood." 00:03:35.64\00:03:38.05 I'm curious, what's this made of? 00:03:38.05\00:03:39.21 - Yeah, what is gopher wood? 00:03:39.21\00:03:40.32 - What's gopher wood? 00:03:40.32\00:03:41.25 Well, that's a great question. 00:03:41.25\00:03:42.05 We get asked that a lot. 00:03:42.05\00:03:43.18 We used to, people would say all the time, 00:03:43.18\00:03:44.15 "Hey, are you gonna make it out 00:03:44.15\00:03:45.29 of the same thing that Noah did?" 00:03:45.29\00:03:46.55 And I would always say, "Yeah, wood." 00:03:46.55\00:03:47.96 (Jim laughing) 00:03:47.96\00:03:48.76 (indistinct) 00:03:48.76\00:03:49.99 Are you gonna make it out of gopher wood? 00:03:49.99\00:03:50.93 Well, what's gopher wood? 00:03:50.93\00:03:51.76 I mean, Genesis 6:14. 00:03:51.76\00:03:52.99 It appears that's the only time in the Bible 00:03:52.99\00:03:54.20 that word is ever used. 00:03:54.20\00:03:55.53 And it doesn't describe, you know, what it is. 00:03:55.53\00:03:58.50 So some people have guessed over the years, 00:03:58.50\00:03:59.90 maybe it was cypress, maybe it was cedar. 00:03:59.90\00:04:01.50 But what they're doing is looking at the region of the 00:04:01.50\00:04:04.01 world where the Ark landed and saying what kind of wood grows, 00:04:04.01\00:04:07.41 you know, trees grow in this area 00:04:07.41\00:04:08.71 that would be suitable for building an ark? 00:04:08.71\00:04:09.84 But that's not the right approach 00:04:09.84\00:04:11.58 because the world was so different before the flood. 00:04:11.58\00:04:13.98 You know, according to Peter, that world perished. 00:04:13.98\00:04:16.85 - It's quite possible it isn't something 00:04:16.85\00:04:18.49 that we even have anymore. 00:04:18.49\00:04:20.02 - Right, it's possible gopher wood doesn't exist anymore. 00:04:20.02\00:04:23.46 So we don't know what kind of wood that was 00:04:23.46\00:04:25.63 other than just what the Bible calls it. 00:04:25.63\00:04:27.50 And there's a lot of speculation about what it was. 00:04:27.50\00:04:30.47 If you are really interested 00:04:30.47\00:04:32.37 in how much we don't know about gopher wood, 00:04:32.37\00:04:34.27 I've got an article on the "Answers In Genesis" website 00:04:34.27\00:04:36.50 (all laughing) about the mystery. 00:04:36.50\00:04:37.94 I think it's "The Mystery of the Ark's Lumber" 00:04:37.94\00:04:39.41 and three or 4,000 words about how much we don't know 00:04:39.41\00:04:42.48 about gopher wood. 00:04:42.48\00:04:43.91 But what I can tell you is that some of the trees 00:04:43.91\00:04:45.81 that came from gopher wood, you know, 00:04:45.81\00:04:47.25 through the years, assuming it survived, 00:04:47.25\00:04:49.28 we know the Ark survived and that was made from gopher wood, 00:04:49.28\00:04:51.05 but assuming some gopher wood trees 00:04:51.05\00:04:52.85 were replanted and regrew, 00:04:52.85\00:04:54.56 if what we call them today are Douglas fir 00:04:54.56\00:04:56.42 or Engelmann spruce, 00:04:56.42\00:04:57.96 then we built the Ark out of gopher wood 00:04:57.96\00:04:59.43 because of the two of the major timbers in the Ark, but... 00:04:59.43\00:05:00.40 - Okay, all right. 00:05:00.40\00:05:01.76 Now, you pointed to the Ark and said, 00:05:01.76\00:05:04.13 "And the Ark was here", you know, 00:05:04.13\00:05:05.83 but this isn't the real Ark, (indistinct), so... 00:05:05.83\00:05:07.07 - Right, that's not the Noah's Ark. 00:05:07.07\00:05:08.44 That is our reconstruction of Noah's Ark... 00:05:08.44\00:05:09.84 - [Janice] Yes, we should make a disclaimer. 00:05:09.84\00:05:11.07 - According to the biblical specification. 00:05:11.07\00:05:13.07 - And you mentioned that things aren't the same. 00:05:13.07\00:05:15.08 Give us a little idea of what it was prior to the flood. 00:05:15.08\00:05:17.98 What the Earth was like. 00:05:17.98\00:05:18.88 - Or what it may have been? 00:05:18.88\00:05:20.05 - Yeah, so we believe that the Earth, 00:05:20.05\00:05:21.48 that there was one continent on the Earth at that time. 00:05:21.48\00:05:23.25 The Bible says in Genesis, chapter one, 00:05:23.25\00:05:24.65 "All the water was gathered together in one place." 00:05:24.65\00:05:26.19 Which seems, to imply, land was in one place. 00:05:26.19\00:05:28.46 The description of that land 00:05:28.46\00:05:29.72 in Genesis chapter two doesn't match anywhere 00:05:29.72\00:05:31.49 on Earth today. 00:05:31.49\00:05:32.43 You know, sometimes people say, 00:05:32.43\00:05:33.63 "Oh, the Garden of Eden was in the Middle East 00:05:33.63\00:05:35.23 because it talks about Tigris and Euphrates." 00:05:35.23\00:05:36.87 Well, that's two rivers that become one. 00:05:36.87\00:05:39.17 What the Bible describes is one river 00:05:39.17\00:05:40.57 that becomes four, and the Tigris and Euphrates, 00:05:40.57\00:05:42.94 there's just two of those. 00:05:42.94\00:05:44.24 So, it's not the same place. 00:05:44.24\00:05:45.87 That world was destroyed 00:05:45.87\00:05:47.58 and completely wiped out by the flood. 00:05:47.58\00:05:49.64 The Garden of Eden is probably buried underneath, 00:05:49.64\00:05:51.85 you know, thousands of feet of sediment. 00:05:51.85\00:05:53.82 So that's a big difference. 00:05:53.82\00:05:55.75 What people were eating, you know, prior to the flood, 00:05:56.99\00:05:59.15 God told man he was to eat vegetation 00:05:59.15\00:06:01.72 and it's not until after the flood, 00:06:01.72\00:06:02.79 that he permit man to eat meat. 00:06:02.79\00:06:04.73 One of my favorite verses, Genesis 9:3, 00:06:04.73\00:06:07.40 "Every living thing that moves shall be food for you." 00:06:07.40\00:06:09.40 - It's really interesting that after the flood, 00:06:09.40\00:06:12.40 you watch the age of man come down, down, down, 00:06:12.40\00:06:15.00 because he became a meat eater. 00:06:15.00\00:06:16.57 (all laughing) 00:06:16.57\00:06:19.27 Kind of interesting. 00:06:19.27\00:06:20.61 - Yeah, I think there's other reasons for it. 00:06:20.61\00:06:23.45 - But also height. 00:06:23.45\00:06:24.45 Right? 00:06:24.45\00:06:25.28 It seems that... 00:06:25.28\00:06:26.28 - Well, his didn't cut that. 00:06:26.28\00:06:27.55 (all laughing) - Yeah, that's true, yeah. 00:06:27.55\00:06:28.88 - Yeah, that one we're not really sure 00:06:28.88\00:06:30.62 because we don't know how tall man was prior to the flood. 00:06:30.62\00:06:35.12 The Bible discusses giants in Genesis 6:4, 00:06:36.06\00:06:38.19 but other than that... 00:06:38.19\00:06:39.39 - There are fossils, I mean, here in the U.S., 00:06:39.39\00:06:42.83 they have found human remains 00:06:42.83\00:06:45.13 that are much more like you than they are like me. 00:06:45.13\00:06:48.10 (Tim and Jim laughing) 00:06:48.10\00:06:49.57 - Well, even without getting it, those would be post-flood. 00:06:49.57\00:06:50.97 You know, the different skeletons that they find though, 00:06:50.97\00:06:52.54 they're all post-flood. 00:06:52.54\00:06:53.91 So we don't know what people would be pre-flood. 00:06:53.91\00:06:55.81 As far as we know, we don't have any human artifact 00:06:55.81\00:06:57.88 or human remains from pre-flood. 00:06:57.88\00:07:00.22 - So how did you do your research? 00:07:00.22\00:07:02.48 I mentioned the "Noah" trilogy. 00:07:02.48\00:07:04.09 That is a favorite of mine. 00:07:04.09\00:07:06.42 How did you, what did you research? 00:07:06.42\00:07:08.56 How did you come up with such a fascinating story 00:07:08.56\00:07:11.26 and all those details that you put into it? 00:07:11.26\00:07:13.96 - Yeah, so it started with... 00:07:13.96\00:07:15.43 We have an exhibit on deck two called, 00:07:15.43\00:07:17.27 "Who Was Noah and How Could He Build the Ark?" 00:07:17.27\00:07:19.30 So, what I was asked to do, 00:07:19.30\00:07:20.50 is write a plausible backstory for Noah. 00:07:20.50\00:07:22.80 How could he have acquired the skills 00:07:22.80\00:07:24.31 that he obviously had to build the Ark? 00:07:24.31\00:07:25.57 You know, it's more than just carpentry. 00:07:25.57\00:07:27.61 It's more than just shipbuilding. 00:07:27.61\00:07:29.11 He's also got to manage a crew, all the different things. 00:07:29.11\00:07:31.45 And so I got this idea that, you know, 00:07:31.45\00:07:33.08 typically people think of Noah as a, 00:07:33.08\00:07:35.05 "Oh, he was a preacher who went around 00:07:35.05\00:07:36.35 and preached to everybody." 00:07:36.35\00:07:37.62 Well, that's not really how the Bible describes, 00:07:37.62\00:07:38.99 (indistinct) he's a preacher of righteousness. 00:07:38.99\00:07:40.66 The Bible tells us that in the New Testament, 00:07:40.66\00:07:43.36 it never said anything like that in the Old Testament. 00:07:43.36\00:07:45.23 And of course they agree, 00:07:45.23\00:07:46.56 I'm not telling there's a contradiction. 00:07:46.56\00:07:48.16 But I don't think that was his occupation. 00:07:48.16\00:07:50.00 In fact, when Jesus talks about the flood, 00:07:50.00\00:07:52.07 he says the people did not know until the flood came 00:07:52.07\00:07:55.07 and took them all the way. 00:07:55.07\00:07:56.47 It's as if most of the people really didn't know 00:07:56.47\00:07:58.84 that this was gonna happen. 00:07:58.84\00:08:00.28 We tend to think of it... - Or didn't believe, 00:08:00.28\00:08:01.11 you know, they just... 00:08:01.11\00:08:02.24 - Right, and even if (indistinct). 00:08:02.24\00:08:03.48 - Thought he was the crazy old man. 00:08:03.48\00:08:04.95 - Yeah, or, I mean, even if he told a lot of people, 00:08:04.95\00:08:06.25 there's still likely millions 00:08:06.25\00:08:08.08 or hundreds of millions of people around the world. 00:08:08.08\00:08:09.42 He didn't reach everybody. 00:08:09.42\00:08:10.92 I mean, we have this huge ark here and we have mass media 00:08:10.92\00:08:14.06 and we have ads on some of the major networks 00:08:14.06\00:08:16.42 and I'll bet over 50% of the people in the country 00:08:16.42\00:08:18.66 have never even heard of it. 00:08:18.66\00:08:20.13 - I am curious, how many people do you get here each year? 00:08:20.13\00:08:22.60 - Well, before the whole COVID thing hit, 00:08:22.60\00:08:24.07 we had about a million people a year on average. 00:08:24.07\00:08:27.20 And then this past summer has been fantastic. 00:08:27.20\00:08:29.67 We've had a lot of people come back, 00:08:29.67\00:08:30.84 even without the large bus groups 00:08:30.84\00:08:32.74 that we used to have all the time. 00:08:32.74\00:08:34.31 So we still had some record numbers this summer, 00:08:34.31\00:08:36.08 which has been great. 00:08:36.08\00:08:37.41 But going back to your question, what do you research, 00:08:37.41\00:08:39.25 really pouring into Genesis one through six, 00:08:39.25\00:08:42.32 everything in there is fair game. 00:08:42.32\00:08:44.82 What could Noah know? 00:08:44.82\00:08:46.29 How could he, you know, 00:08:46.29\00:08:47.69 assuming that he doesn't know everything that's coming 00:08:47.69\00:08:49.26 in the rest of the Bible. 00:08:49.26\00:08:50.46 So you gotta limit yourself to just, 00:08:50.46\00:08:53.06 really those six chapters, 00:08:53.06\00:08:54.66 and, you know, how could he figure things out? 00:08:54.66\00:08:58.33 So I got the idea that maybe he was already a ship builder, 00:08:58.33\00:09:01.54 and people don't usually think of that. 00:09:01.54\00:09:03.57 But the way that God often works is, 00:09:03.57\00:09:04.97 he prepares you for the task 00:09:04.97\00:09:06.37 that he has in store for you. 00:09:06.37\00:09:07.98 And so rather than having Noah be the expert on everything, 00:09:07.98\00:09:10.95 we had his wife be somebody 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.15 who's always had an interest in animals 00:09:12.15\00:09:13.82 and always loved, you know, studying those. 00:09:13.82\00:09:15.82 Well, not knowing that those two skills 00:09:15.82\00:09:17.82 would come in very handy later in life for both of them. 00:09:17.82\00:09:20.72 Because God often does that, he... 00:09:20.72\00:09:22.19 - I love the roles that you gave 00:09:22.19\00:09:24.39 to the women involved in the story 00:09:25.19\00:09:27.36 because, well, let's face it, 00:09:27.36\00:09:29.03 throughout the Bible you often have, 00:09:29.03\00:09:30.77 "Oh, yeah, and there were some women there too", 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.77 you know, at the end of a story we're a little postscript. 00:09:32.77\00:09:36.10 But in your trilogy, women were a major part. 00:09:36.10\00:09:40.84 - Yeah, well, I think it's... 00:09:40.84\00:09:41.81 - As they would have been. 00:09:41.81\00:09:42.91 - I think that typically the case of... 00:09:42.91\00:09:45.08 What's the saying, I'll probably botch it, 00:09:45.08\00:09:46.51 but, "Behind every strong man there's a strong woman", 00:09:46.51\00:09:48.82 or something like that. 00:09:48.82\00:09:49.95 And I think that's generally true. 00:09:49.95\00:09:52.65 I... - 'Cause Janice says, 00:09:52.65\00:09:54.36 this is really near and dear to her 00:09:54.36\00:09:55.99 because of your graciousness, yesterday, 00:09:55.99\00:09:58.26 we filmed a "Mrs. Noah". 00:09:58.26\00:10:00.06 - [Janice] I do a bit of a (indistinct). 00:10:00.06\00:10:01.60 - [Tim] Oh, neat. 00:10:01.60\00:10:02.46 Okay. 00:10:02.46\00:10:03.30 - [Jim] So... 00:10:03.30\00:10:04.23 - Well now, you know her name? 00:10:04.23\00:10:05.03 No, I'm just kidding. 00:10:05.03\00:10:05.93 (Jim and Janice laughing) 00:10:05.93\00:10:07.14 The Bible doesn't give us her name. 00:10:07.14\00:10:08.17 So those things were, you know, 00:10:08.17\00:10:09.40 the names of the women were fictional and... 00:10:09.40\00:10:10.81 So, yeah, it was just interesting to try to dream up 00:10:10.81\00:10:14.08 what that world would be like. 00:10:14.08\00:10:15.01 But even in my case, you know, 00:10:15.01\00:10:16.18 how does God prepare somebody for a role? 00:10:16.18\00:10:18.71 Well, for about 15 years, 00:10:18.71\00:10:20.02 I was fascinated with pre-flood world 00:10:20.02\00:10:21.98 and reading everything I could get my hands on. 00:10:21.98\00:10:23.65 I didn't know 00:10:23.65\00:10:25.05 that someday I was gonna be doing this, what God knew. 00:10:25.05\00:10:26.55 - So God was preparing you at that time too? 00:10:26.55\00:10:27.92 - Exactly, yep. 00:10:27.92\00:10:29.29 And so when God told Noah, "Build the Ark", 00:10:29.29\00:10:30.79 he said, "I can do that, how big?" 00:10:30.79\00:10:33.50 "Oh." 00:10:33.50\00:10:34.36 (all laughing) 00:10:34.36\00:10:35.30 "Give me a little bit of time. 00:10:35.30\00:10:36.56 It's gonna be kind of big, but..." 00:10:36.56\00:10:37.53 - Speaking of, tell me, Tim, 00:10:37.53\00:10:39.07 give us the dimensions and how did you arrive at those? 00:10:39.07\00:10:41.64 - Because the... - 510 feet long, right? 00:10:41.64\00:10:43.14 - [Tim] Yes. 00:10:43.14\00:10:44.11 - See, I did my research. 00:10:44.11\00:10:45.41 - Thank you, Tim. 00:10:45.41\00:10:46.37 (Jim and Janice laughing) 00:10:46.37\00:10:47.91 - [Tim] Yeah, so the Bible gives us the dimensions 00:10:47.91\00:10:49.31 of the Ark. 00:10:49.31\00:10:50.88 It tells us that it was, you know, 300 cubit by 50 cubit. 00:10:50.88\00:10:52.48 - [Janice] And then you had to decide 00:10:52.48\00:10:53.65 what's a cubic? - What's a cubit, yeah. 00:10:53.65\00:10:54.92 We know that cubit is this, but... 00:10:54.92\00:10:57.15 - You might notice his cubit would be just a tad longer 00:10:57.15\00:10:59.52 than mine. 00:10:59.52\00:11:00.22 (crosstalk and laughter) 00:11:00.22\00:11:00.96 - Mine is 22 inches 00:11:00.96\00:11:02.39 because I'm about a six foot eight, six foot nine. 00:11:02.39\00:11:04.56 And so, my cubit's pretty large. 00:11:04.56\00:11:06.53 But if Noah would have used mine, 00:11:06.53\00:11:08.10 the Ark would have been even longer than what you see here. 00:11:08.10\00:11:10.93 Typically, what people will do is say, 00:11:10.93\00:11:12.10 "Well, the common cubit is 18 inches." 00:11:12.10\00:11:15.20 That's what you'll see in a lot of Bibles. 00:11:15.20\00:11:17.44 Some of the modern ones, we'll see 17.5 inches. 00:11:17.44\00:11:20.01 And the reason for that is the discovery 00:11:20.01\00:11:21.78 of Hezekiah's tunnel in Jerusalem. 00:11:21.78\00:11:24.88 Yeah, that was... 00:11:24.88\00:11:25.85 - [Jim] Tell us more about that. 00:11:25.85\00:11:26.65 - So that was a tunnel 00:11:26.65\00:11:27.82 that they used for water and everything. 00:11:27.82\00:11:29.28 That was dug during Hezekiah's time. 00:11:29.28\00:11:31.79 And so you're looking at, you know, centuries before Jesus, 00:11:31.79\00:11:35.66 but thousands of years after Noah 00:11:35.66\00:11:37.53 and it was built on a 17 and a half inch cubit. 00:11:37.53\00:11:41.00 So that's why people think, oh, that was the common cubit. 00:11:41.00\00:11:43.67 Well, it's the common cubit in Hezekiah's day. 00:11:43.67\00:11:45.90 We don't know what Noah used. 00:11:45.90\00:11:47.84 And what we do know is 00:11:48.80\00:11:50.07 that throughout the ancient Near East, 00:11:50.07\00:11:51.74 in Egypt and Syria and all these different places, 00:11:51.74\00:11:54.44 they all used cubits, 00:11:54.44\00:11:55.61 but they all had different length cubits. 00:11:55.61\00:11:57.01 So we had to pick one, and so... 00:11:57.01\00:11:59.21 - It's not a measurement that you just pulled out of a hat. 00:11:59.21\00:12:01.25 You know, let's throw the dice and see... 00:12:01.25\00:12:03.32 - Right. 00:12:03.32\00:12:04.45 - How many inches are cubits gonna be. 00:12:04.45\00:12:06.02 - So what we did is, we took the 17 and a half inch cubit. 00:12:06.02\00:12:07.39 But what we also recognized throughout history is, 00:12:07.39\00:12:09.72 a lot of those ancient building projects, 00:12:09.72\00:12:11.56 whether it's pyramids or temples, 00:12:11.56\00:12:12.93 a lot of them are built 00:12:12.93\00:12:14.30 on what's called a "long cubit" or a "royal cubit". 00:12:14.30\00:12:16.33 So you add it with the four fingers and then to the cubit. 00:12:16.33\00:12:19.50 And so that's about 2.9 inches to three inches. 00:12:19.50\00:12:22.27 So we have it... 00:12:22.27\00:12:23.44 - Moses who wrote, was royalty, so... 00:12:23.44\00:12:25.84 - Yeah, yeah. 00:12:25.84\00:12:27.28 He would have been familiar with what was going on in Egypt. 00:12:27.28\00:12:28.64 And so that a 20.4 inch cubit 00:12:28.64\00:12:30.51 and the 17.5 plus the 2.9 inches. 00:12:30.51\00:12:33.28 So we used the 20.4 inch cubit here. 00:12:33.28\00:12:35.12 That gives you an ark of 510 feet in length 00:12:35.12\00:12:38.12 and it is, you know, 51 feet tall and 85 feet wide. 00:12:38.12\00:12:43.39 And then it's taller than that 00:12:44.16\00:12:45.56 because it's up on these pillars that are 14 feet tall, 00:12:45.56\00:12:48.33 and then you've got the (indistinct) up there. 00:12:48.33\00:12:49.90 (upbeat ancient music) 00:12:49.90\00:12:53.10 (soft music) 00:12:57.87\00:12:59.14 - It's no secret that the world is in a major mess. 00:12:59.14\00:13:02.58 We are in a major mess. 00:13:02.58\00:13:04.85 Even if you have escaped many of life's difficulties, 00:13:04.85\00:13:08.25 most homes still struggle with daily living. 00:13:08.25\00:13:12.42 So the question arises, 00:13:12.42\00:13:14.62 is there hope for the future, for your future? 00:13:14.62\00:13:18.59 I wanna tell you, there absolutely is hope. 00:13:18.59\00:13:22.36 And that's why I'm asking you to order this free pamphlet. 00:13:22.36\00:13:26.30 "Is there Hope for the future?" 00:13:26.30\00:13:28.94 You will be happy you did. 00:13:28.94\00:13:31.34 It will change your life. 00:13:31.34\00:13:33.17 Go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org 00:13:33.17\00:13:37.45 today and order offer #105, "Is there Hope for the future?" 00:13:37.45\00:13:42.72 (gentle upbeat music) 00:13:44.15\00:13:45.55 - Because one criticism of the whole flood story, 00:13:45.55\00:13:49.09 you have people who say, 00:13:49.09\00:13:50.93 "Well, he couldn't have gotten all the animals", 00:13:50.93\00:13:53.73 (Tim chuckling) 00:13:53.73\00:13:54.93 you know, two of every kind of animal. 00:13:54.93\00:13:56.26 "You can't, can't be done." 00:13:56.26\00:13:57.97 And part of your purpose here is to show, 00:13:57.97\00:14:00.14 well, yes, it could have been. 00:14:00.14\00:14:01.24 - Oh, absolutely, yeah. 00:14:01.24\00:14:02.74 Yeah, so, a lot of times people don't recognize 00:14:02.74\00:14:04.51 how big the Ark is. 00:14:04.51\00:14:05.77 And so, when people would give me that line, 00:14:05.77\00:14:08.01 like, "Oh, there's no way you can fit the animals." 00:14:08.01\00:14:09.38 "Well, how big was the Ark?" 00:14:09.38\00:14:11.35 "Well, I don't know, but there's no way 00:14:11.35\00:14:12.38 you could fit them on there." 00:14:12.38\00:14:13.28 (Jim and Janice laughing) 00:14:13.28\00:14:14.25 "Okay, well, how many animals?" 00:14:14.25\00:14:15.58 "I don't know, but there's no way you can fit." 00:14:15.58\00:14:17.12 So they don't even know the two things they have to know 00:14:17.12\00:14:18.35 and they tell you it can't be done 00:14:18.35\00:14:19.79 because they're just repeating what they've heard. 00:14:19.79\00:14:21.19 And they try to imagine every single type of animal 00:14:21.19\00:14:24.73 they've ever seen. 00:14:24.73\00:14:25.99 - Not understanding... - Not understanding... 00:14:25.99\00:14:27.20 - Two of each kind. - Two of each kind. 00:14:27.20\00:14:28.96 And they'll say, "Well, that's just a made up category." 00:14:28.96\00:14:30.80 All of the categories we come up with are just... 00:14:30.80\00:14:33.30 You can classify animals however you want to, 00:14:33.30\00:14:34.87 by brown animals and by their color, 00:14:34.87\00:14:37.41 by the number of leg. 00:14:37.41\00:14:38.64 You can classify them how you want to. 00:14:38.64\00:14:40.34 We just have a system that we've kind of accepted 00:14:40.34\00:14:42.41 for the last couple hundred years. 00:14:42.41\00:14:44.05 You know, with family, genus, species and so on. 00:14:44.05\00:14:47.12 And... 00:14:47.12\00:14:48.25 - So what would kind relate to... 00:14:48.25\00:14:49.58 - Kind is... 00:14:49.58\00:14:50.72 - In those terms that we're used to? 00:14:50.72\00:14:51.49 - Yeah, yeah. 00:14:51.49\00:14:52.82 Kind is roughly equivalent to the family level. 00:14:52.82\00:14:54.42 So if animals can interbreed, they belong to the same kind. 00:14:54.42\00:14:57.33 So, you know, here at the zoo, right behind the Ark here, 00:14:57.33\00:15:00.70 we've got a zonkey and a zorse, 00:15:00.70\00:15:02.73 (Janice laughing) 00:15:02.73\00:15:03.93 which are the cross between a, you know, 00:15:03.93\00:15:05.20 a zebra and a donkey and a zebra and a horse. 00:15:05.20\00:15:07.27 And those are the same kind of animal. 00:15:07.27\00:15:10.54 And the same thing would be true 00:15:10.54\00:15:11.87 with like camels and llamas and alpacas. 00:15:11.87\00:15:13.98 They belong to the same kind. 00:15:13.98\00:15:15.34 So Noah doesn't need two camels, two alpacas, two llamas. 00:15:15.34\00:15:17.95 They belong to the same family. 00:15:17.95\00:15:19.45 With dogs, I mean, wolves and coyotes and dingoes and foxes, 00:15:19.45\00:15:22.68 those are all different species. 00:15:22.68\00:15:23.99 There's like 14 different species of foxes. 00:15:23.99\00:15:25.92 They're all part of the dog kind, Noah just needs two dogs. 00:15:25.92\00:15:28.19 - I love, I was listening to Ken Ham one time 00:15:28.19\00:15:31.06 when he was talking about, 00:15:31.06\00:15:32.26 there were no poodles on the Ark. 00:15:32.26\00:15:33.83 - [Jim] No, there weren't. (all laughing) 00:15:33.83\00:15:35.16 - You don't like poodles. - No. 00:15:35.16\00:15:36.43 - No, poodles are, you know, 00:15:36.43\00:15:37.57 just the last couple of hundred years 00:15:37.57\00:15:39.10 as people are breeding, you know, getting runts together 00:15:39.10\00:15:41.07 and breeding them and getting more runts together 00:15:41.07\00:15:42.64 and breeding them and getting this kind of a useless dog. 00:15:42.64\00:15:45.61 (Tim laughing) 00:15:45.61\00:15:46.41 (crosstalk) 00:15:46.41\00:15:47.84 - The original, whatever it was Noah had with him, 00:15:47.84\00:15:50.95 had the ability in those genes... 00:15:50.95\00:15:53.68 - Yes. 00:15:53.68\00:15:54.58 - To someday create poodles. 00:15:54.58\00:15:55.65 - It had the genetic variability. 00:15:55.65\00:15:56.82 - [Janice] For better or for worse. 00:15:56.82\00:15:58.12 - Right, and so people look at it and say, 00:15:58.12\00:15:58.95 "Isn't that evolution?" 00:15:58.95\00:16:00.19 No, it's the exact opposite of evolution. 00:16:00.19\00:16:01.32 What we're saying is that these two dogs 00:16:01.32\00:16:02.96 on Ark, they had the genetic variability 00:16:02.96\00:16:04.59 for all that we see today in the dog kind. 00:16:04.59\00:16:07.30 What evolutionary... 00:16:07.30\00:16:08.96 And then what happens, 00:16:08.96\00:16:10.13 as you think about the different breeds, 00:16:10.13\00:16:11.23 they're losing genetic information. 00:16:11.23\00:16:13.20 That's why the purebreds, that we call purebreds, 00:16:13.20\00:16:15.60 they're often very sick 00:16:15.60\00:16:16.81 and they gotta go to the vet all the time, 00:16:16.81\00:16:17.77 but a mutt can survive anything 00:16:17.77\00:16:19.41 because it's got much more variability. 00:16:19.41\00:16:21.54 - [Jim] Yeah. 00:16:21.54\00:16:22.91 - And so it's actually the opposite of evolution 00:16:22.91\00:16:25.88 and evolution would require a gain 00:16:25.88\00:16:27.75 of new genetic information every step of the way. 00:16:27.75\00:16:29.72 And we've never observed that. 00:16:29.72\00:16:30.92 - So as time goes on, 00:16:30.92\00:16:32.05 they'd be able to create more and more 00:16:32.05\00:16:33.42 and different and different. 00:16:33.42\00:16:34.52 And we find just the opposite. 00:16:34.52\00:16:36.16 - Right, yep. 00:16:36.16\00:16:37.69 - Now, I guess you wrote everything in there too. 00:16:37.69\00:16:41.56 You wrote in there, 00:16:41.56\00:16:43.50 last night I was able to get in just for a second. 00:16:43.50\00:16:46.27 You've got the gallons of water that the place would hold 00:16:46.27\00:16:49.50 and how many animals? 00:16:49.50\00:16:50.87 Can you give us a rundown on how massive it was 00:16:50.87\00:16:52.94 and how organized everything? 00:16:52.94\00:16:54.48 - That surprised me, because I would tend to think, 00:16:54.48\00:16:56.61 just hold a cup outside the window, 00:16:56.61\00:16:58.41 (Tim and Jim laughing) you know, 00:16:58.41\00:16:59.35 and you're gonna get water. 00:16:59.35\00:17:00.62 And it had not occurred to me 00:17:00.62\00:17:02.05 that they would need water storage. 00:17:02.05\00:17:04.79 You know, doesn't it seem counter intuitive 00:17:04.79\00:17:07.29 that you'd need to be able to get a lot? 00:17:07.29\00:17:08.46 - You know, you got a lot of animals. 00:17:08.46\00:17:09.92 It's tough to get enough in a cup in one day, but... 00:17:09.92\00:17:11.43 - Well, what we did is, we tried several different methods. 00:17:11.43\00:17:14.30 How do we wanna approach this too 00:17:14.30\00:17:15.53 and have potable water for all 12 months? 00:17:15.53\00:17:18.00 Well, that's not usually a good idea 00:17:18.00\00:17:19.67 because it doesn't usually keep real well. 00:17:19.67\00:17:21.40 So what we did is, 00:17:21.40\00:17:22.60 let's plan for three months of potable water. 00:17:22.60\00:17:23.84 And then we had it, is there a way 00:17:23.84\00:17:25.84 that they could collect rainwater off the roof? 00:17:25.84\00:17:28.34 And given the roof of that size, we did the calculations. 00:17:28.34\00:17:31.71 You would need, on average, one inch of rain per week 00:17:31.71\00:17:34.82 in order to have enough water for the people, 00:17:34.82\00:17:36.62 for all the animals, for washing the stalls, 00:17:36.62\00:17:38.42 for everything that you need, one inch of rain per week. 00:17:38.42\00:17:40.96 Do you think they got that during the flood 00:17:40.96\00:17:42.42 and during the subsequent month? 00:17:42.42\00:17:43.86 Well, we get, right in this area of Kentucky, 00:17:43.86\00:17:45.86 guess how much rain we averaged on a year? 00:17:45.86\00:17:47.66 - A lot more than we do on our area California. 00:17:47.66\00:17:49.23 - Yes. 00:17:49.23\00:17:50.63 One inch of rain, we have the exact right amount here. 00:17:50.63\00:17:53.34 And so as long as it rained, what it does here, 00:17:53.34\00:17:55.67 then you have enough water 00:17:55.67\00:17:57.34 and they would've had much more rain than that. 00:17:57.34\00:18:00.74 So, they easily could have had enough for it. 00:18:00.74\00:18:03.28 - How many animal, how many kinds do you have? 00:18:03.28\00:18:04.41 - Yeah, so the total number of kinds, 00:18:04.41\00:18:05.88 we had to go through and do the research, 00:18:05.88\00:18:07.85 and we had to figure out, not just the still living kinds, 00:18:07.85\00:18:10.79 but also those that have gone extinct 00:18:10.79\00:18:12.15 since the time of the flood. 00:18:12.15\00:18:13.39 How many kinds of animals would there be? 00:18:13.39\00:18:15.39 And what we often hear is, 00:18:15.39\00:18:16.73 "How could you fit millions of species?", and... 00:18:16.73\00:18:18.19 - [Janice] Right. 00:18:18.19\00:18:19.36 - But we've already talked about the, 00:18:19.36\00:18:20.56 how we're not talking about species. 00:18:20.56\00:18:21.46 We're talking about kinds. 00:18:21.46\00:18:22.63 And when they say millions of species, 00:18:22.63\00:18:23.87 they're including all the insects. 00:18:23.87\00:18:25.57 Noah doesn't have to bring the insects on board the Ark. 00:18:25.57\00:18:27.14 They're not breathing air through their nostril. 00:18:27.14\00:18:29.67 They don't have nostrils. 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.11 They don't have the life of the flushes in the blood. 00:18:31.11\00:18:32.47 They don't have blood. 00:18:32.47\00:18:33.38 They don't go two by two. 00:18:33.38\00:18:34.68 - I really wish he would've not taken spiders. 00:18:34.68\00:18:35.44 - Oh, me too. 00:18:35.44\00:18:37.01 (Jim laughing) 00:18:37.01\00:18:38.25 Completely get rid of those, and mosquitoes, 00:18:38.25\00:18:39.28 we can do without fine. 00:18:39.28\00:18:40.18 - You found a friend here. 00:18:40.18\00:18:40.98 - Yes. - Yeah. 00:18:40.98\00:18:41.85 (Tim and Jim laughing) 00:18:41.85\00:18:43.25 - I'm okay with snakes, but spiders, the big ones, 00:18:43.25\00:18:44.35 yeah, they creep me out. 00:18:44.35\00:18:45.32 (Tim and Janice laughing) 00:18:45.32\00:18:46.25 - Oh, even the little ones. 00:18:46.25\00:18:47.22 They don't have to be big, yeah. 00:18:47.22\00:18:48.09 (Tim laughing) 00:18:48.09\00:18:50.09 - So the total number of kinds, 00:18:50.09\00:18:51.63 and this is probably an overestimate 00:18:51.63\00:18:53.63 because what we were doing is, 00:18:53.63\00:18:54.56 if we don't have the proof at all 00:18:54.56\00:18:56.06 that these belong in the same kind, we separate them out. 00:18:56.06\00:18:58.97 Even though they probably do. 00:18:58.97\00:19:00.84 For example, bats, there're 18 living 00:19:00.84\00:19:03.47 of families of bats in the world today 00:19:03.47\00:19:05.24 and five or six extinct families of bats. 00:19:05.24\00:19:07.54 There's a good likelihood they all belong to the same kind, 00:19:08.74\00:19:10.95 but we don't have all the hybridization data we need. 00:19:10.95\00:19:13.11 So we separated them out into 24 kinds. 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.15 And because they're flying creatures, we brought 14 of 00:19:15.15\00:19:17.25 each. We have over 300 bats on the Ark. 00:19:17.25\00:19:18.72 Noah might've just needed seven. 00:19:18.72\00:19:20.56 - And these are not alive, right? 00:19:20.56\00:19:21.66 - Right. (Janice laughing) 00:19:21.66\00:19:22.96 - For anybody watching, let's come to the Ark. 00:19:22.96\00:19:23.83 - Right. (crosstalk) 00:19:23.83\00:19:25.36 - I'm not going in there. - They're not supposed to be, 00:19:25.36\00:19:26.39 maybe some God in there. 00:19:26.39\00:19:27.23 (Tim and Jim laughing) 00:19:27.23\00:19:29.00 So the total number of kinds 00:19:29.00\00:19:30.40 that we've calculated is just under 1400, it's 1398. 00:19:30.40\00:19:33.94 And the total number of animals is fewer than 6,700. 00:19:33.94\00:19:36.74 - [Janice] 'Cause it wasn't just two. 00:19:36.74\00:19:38.11 People think two of everything. 00:19:38.11\00:19:39.51 - Right, it's two of every kind 00:19:39.51\00:19:41.34 and then it's seven or seven pairs of the clean animals 00:19:41.34\00:19:46.18 and all the flying creatures. 00:19:46.18\00:19:48.02 And so, it depends, 00:19:48.02\00:19:49.75 are you gonna do seven, are you gonna do 14? 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.32 And our approach was to do a worst case scenario. 00:19:51.32\00:19:54.86 So every time you have a decision to make 00:19:54.86\00:19:56.09 between a lower number or a higher number, 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.66 and you can't be sure... - [Janice] Get the higher. 00:19:57.66\00:19:58.89 - You always go with the higher number, 00:19:58.89\00:20:00.23 because we're trying to show they could all fit. 00:20:00.23\00:20:01.50 And if we always took the lower number, 00:20:01.50\00:20:02.96 people are gonna say, "Oh, you cheated." 00:20:02.96\00:20:04.33 No, we are probably overestimated by quite a bit. 00:20:04.33\00:20:06.60 And what we found is, when you calculate all the water, 00:20:06.60\00:20:09.94 all the food, everything that you need and all the animals, 00:20:09.94\00:20:12.87 everything fits just right. 00:20:12.87\00:20:14.78 Which, that's what you would expect, 00:20:14.78\00:20:16.38 because God is the one who told Noah how to... 00:20:16.38\00:20:17.65 - [Jim] God designed... (crosstalk) 00:20:17.65\00:20:18.88 - He's not gonna say, "Build it this size 00:20:18.88\00:20:20.15 so that it's just a little too small. 00:20:20.15\00:20:21.38 You can't get the animals in it", or, 00:20:21.38\00:20:22.88 "Make it way too big, so it's gonna be a lot harder 00:20:22.88\00:20:24.79 to keep it afloat and spend a lot more time building it." 00:20:24.79\00:20:27.29 It's gonna be just right, 00:20:27.29\00:20:28.52 because God knows how big it needs to be. 00:20:28.52\00:20:30.33 - Sounds like one of your gospel bands is starting. 00:20:30.33\00:20:32.89 (crosstalk) 00:20:32.89\00:20:34.36 - Yeah, we're in the middle of our 40-40. 00:20:34.36\00:20:37.00 40 days and 40 nights of music here at the Ark. 00:20:37.00\00:20:39.20 And so we've got music going on at the Answer Center. 00:20:39.20\00:20:42.20 And then we've also got an outdoor concert going on as 00:20:42.20\00:20:45.24 well, and... 00:20:45.24\00:20:46.74 - And you have some pretty good groups coming in. 00:20:46.74\00:20:49.08 - Yeah, there are some very well-known groups 00:20:49.08\00:20:51.71 that have been, I think Selah has been here 00:20:51.71\00:20:53.82 and some other. 00:20:53.82\00:20:54.62 A lot of... 00:20:54.62\00:20:55.58 It's mostly all southern gospel. 00:20:55.58\00:20:57.55 So if that's... 00:20:57.55\00:20:58.79 - What you would expect for Kentucky. 00:20:58.79\00:20:59.65 (all laughing) 00:20:59.65\00:21:01.22 - Tim... - I grew up in the eighties, 00:21:01.22\00:21:02.69 so I was kind of hoping for something more of that, 00:21:02.69\00:21:03.56 but, yeah. 00:21:03.56\00:21:04.49 (all laughing) 00:21:04.49\00:21:05.93 - With the Ark Encounter, and it truly is an encounter. 00:21:05.93\00:21:07.50 I mean, it's, you know, incredible. 00:21:07.50\00:21:09.06 How long does it take people to go through? 00:21:09.06\00:21:11.67 - You know, it depends on the type of person, you know. 00:21:11.67\00:21:13.77 - I'm the kind who goes through and I read everything. 00:21:13.77\00:21:16.34 - Then you wanna give yourself all day just for the Ark. 00:21:16.34\00:21:18.97 There are some people like... 00:21:18.97\00:21:19.81 - Can I have all day? 00:21:19.81\00:21:20.78 - No. (Tim laughing) 00:21:20.78\00:21:21.94 - You're not gonna get me all day. 00:21:21.94\00:21:23.28 - You know, one of my bosses, he's a looker. 00:21:23.28\00:21:24.45 He just looks at things real quick, 00:21:24.45\00:21:25.91 and he reads the headline and then he moves on. 00:21:25.91\00:21:26.95 But he also touches everything. 00:21:26.95\00:21:27.92 (all laughing) 00:21:27.92\00:21:29.15 So there's some people like that. 00:21:29.15\00:21:30.62 And so you wanna give yourself a couple of hours 00:21:30.62\00:21:31.82 if you've got that. 00:21:31.82\00:21:32.99 Sometimes if you've got younger kids, 00:21:32.99\00:21:34.59 you know, it can be hard with the younger kids, 00:21:34.59\00:21:36.93 they'll get a little bit tired 00:21:36.93\00:21:38.33 by the time they get, you know, through deck two. 00:21:38.33\00:21:40.40 We've got a playground here, we've got ziplines, 00:21:40.40\00:21:42.43 we've got the zoo, so you can always leave, 00:21:42.43\00:21:44.43 go out and do those things for a little while 00:21:44.43\00:21:45.87 and then return for deck three. 00:21:45.87\00:21:47.14 - [Janice] You can do the zipline. 00:21:47.14\00:21:48.27 (Jim laughing) 00:21:48.27\00:21:49.24 - [Tim] Yeah, oh, they're fun. 00:21:49.24\00:21:50.47 - [Janice] I'm not going near a zipline. 00:21:50.47\00:21:51.71 (Tim laughing) - [Jim] All right. 00:21:51.71\00:21:52.41 - They're safe. 00:21:52.41\00:21:53.64 If they can hold me, it can hold you. 00:21:53.64\00:21:54.64 - I know the theory. 00:21:54.64\00:21:55.81 (Tim and Janice laughing) 00:21:55.81\00:21:57.45 But you're still not getting me up on that tower. 00:21:57.45\00:21:59.21 (Tim and Janice laughing) 00:21:59.21\00:22:00.45 - I understand, I'm afraid of heights, 00:22:00.45\00:22:01.72 it's a little scary just to walk around all day. 00:22:01.72\00:22:02.92 (Tim laughing) 00:22:02.92\00:22:04.29 - As tall as you are, you're afraid of heights? 00:22:04.29\00:22:05.29 (Jim and Janice laughing) 00:22:05.29\00:22:06.12 - Yeah, a little bit, 00:22:06.12\00:22:07.52 but I was part of the team that tested the ziplines 00:22:07.52\00:22:09.32 at the Creation Museum, and... 00:22:09.32\00:22:10.76 - [Janice] Ooh. (indistinct) 00:22:10.76\00:22:11.63 - I was afraid to fall. 00:22:11.63\00:22:12.79 I didn't wanna have to be the first one, 00:22:12.79\00:22:14.03 but I ended up being the first one 00:22:14.03\00:22:15.03 to go on one of the lines, 00:22:15.03\00:22:16.13 and all of my coworkers watching, 00:22:16.13\00:22:17.73 I thought, "I can't chicken out." 00:22:17.73\00:22:19.03 I got that. (Tim and Janice laughing) 00:22:19.03\00:22:20.04 Didn't help me, it was fun. 00:22:20.04\00:22:21.77 - We're starting to run out of time here, 00:22:21.77\00:22:23.41 but something I wanna ask you, 00:22:23.41\00:22:25.14 I understand there was one "scientist", quote, unquote, 00:22:26.27\00:22:28.48 who came here and looked and said, 00:22:28.48\00:22:30.15 "Well, this thing can't float. 00:22:30.15\00:22:32.18 So it really is totally in material", and on, and on. 00:22:32.18\00:22:34.78 - Yeah. 00:22:34.78\00:22:35.92 - What do you say to folks like that? 00:22:35.92\00:22:37.59 - Yeah, well, this one cannot float. 00:22:37.59\00:22:39.12 I mean, it's hooked, it's connected on the backside. 00:22:39.12\00:22:41.02 You don't see from here, 00:22:41.02\00:22:42.12 to three giant towers that anchor it 00:22:42.12\00:22:43.73 so that it can withstand 140 mile an hour winds. 00:22:43.73\00:22:46.73 This one was not designed to float, 00:22:46.73\00:22:47.96 but the engineering behind this shape, 00:22:47.96\00:22:50.87 this structure, was done by Tim Lovett, 00:22:50.87\00:22:53.27 who's an engineer in Australia, 00:22:53.27\00:22:55.00 and he designed it in a way that it could float, 00:22:55.00\00:22:57.04 if it was constructed, you know, 00:22:57.04\00:22:58.54 the way that we show on the inside. 00:22:58.54\00:23:00.14 When you first walk in, 00:23:00.14\00:23:01.21 we've got a cross section of the hall. 00:23:01.21\00:23:03.18 And if it's designed that way, that structure will float. 00:23:03.18\00:23:06.45 You know, people say, 00:23:06.45\00:23:07.58 "You can't build a wooden ship that large." 00:23:07.58\00:23:09.05 Well, the Wyoming that was built in the early 1900's, 00:23:09.05\00:23:11.85 was 430 feet long from tip to tip, 00:23:11.85\00:23:14.42 and people will often cite that one and would say, 00:23:14.42\00:23:15.92 "You can't build a wooden ship that large 00:23:15.92\00:23:17.19 because it sank and 14 people were killed." 00:23:17.19\00:23:19.93 But what they don't tell you is, 00:23:19.93\00:23:21.03 that thing floated for nearly 15 years, 00:23:21.03\00:23:23.00 carrying thousands of tons of cargo 00:23:23.00\00:23:24.53 back and forth across the Atlantic. 00:23:24.53\00:23:26.77 Why don't they tell you that? 00:23:26.77\00:23:27.97 Because you can build wooden ships that large. 00:23:27.97\00:23:29.70 Noah's Ark needed to float for a maximum of five months 00:23:29.70\00:23:32.21 before it landed on the mountains of Ararat. 00:23:32.21\00:23:34.28 So if something close to that size can float for 15 years, 00:23:34.28\00:23:37.71 if you spent a little more time and your engineering, 00:23:37.71\00:23:40.32 there... 00:23:40.32\00:23:41.45 Wouldn't ships... - And besides that, 00:23:41.45\00:23:42.45 it's not taking into account 00:23:42.45\00:23:43.55 that God was taking care of them. 00:23:43.55\00:23:45.59 He wasn't going to let it sink. 00:23:45.59\00:23:47.29 - Yeah, he's not gonna let sink. 00:23:47.29\00:23:48.26 Our assumption going into this 00:23:48.26\00:23:49.62 and the way that we worked on these is, 00:23:49.62\00:23:51.23 if the Bible didn't tells us 00:23:51.23\00:23:52.53 that God did something miraculously, 00:23:52.53\00:23:54.66 let's assume that he didn't do something miraculously. 00:23:54.66\00:23:57.03 So can Noah design something in a way that's gonna survive? 00:23:57.03\00:24:00.17 Because there's a little hint that God wasn't right there 00:24:00.17\00:24:02.04 with him all the time, because Genesis 8:1 says, 00:24:02.04\00:24:03.94 "God remembered Noah." 00:24:03.94\00:24:05.34 And that's during the middle of the flood. 00:24:05.34\00:24:06.78 So it's almost as if God wasn't in there with him, 00:24:06.78\00:24:09.61 you know, taking care of all their needs, 00:24:09.61\00:24:10.75 that they had to actually do the planning 00:24:10.75\00:24:12.05 and the research and prepare for it. 00:24:12.05\00:24:14.55 Of course, we know God can do those things. 00:24:14.55\00:24:16.12 And if he wanted to, he would, but our approach to it, 00:24:16.12\00:24:19.05 because we wanna show a kind of a feasibility study, 00:24:19.05\00:24:21.66 is that God wasn't doing that every step of the way. 00:24:21.66\00:24:23.73 - And really, God wants to be in a partnership with us. 00:24:23.73\00:24:26.39 - Yes. 00:24:26.39\00:24:27.73 - He wants us to work alongside of him, you know, 00:24:27.73\00:24:29.30 in everything, in the gospel too. 00:24:29.30\00:24:30.80 - Amen, yeah. 00:24:30.80\00:24:32.00 (indistinct) - I'm sure you found that. 00:24:32.00\00:24:33.27 - Well, that's what we're called to do. 00:24:33.27\00:24:34.54 And ultimately that's why we built this. 00:24:34.54\00:24:35.77 Because we have the most important message 00:24:35.77\00:24:37.07 that can ever be shared. 00:24:37.07\00:24:38.51 Not just Noah and the Ark, but, God judged the world, 00:24:38.51\00:24:41.08 but the Ark and the flood is the reminder of God's judgment 00:24:41.08\00:24:43.78 and yet also his mercy and his grace to Noah and his family 00:24:43.78\00:24:46.82 and the representatives of the animals. 00:24:46.82\00:24:48.28 - But it's also demonstrating 00:24:48.28\00:24:50.09 that you can believe what the Bible says. 00:24:50.09\00:24:52.15 - Yeah. 00:24:52.15\00:24:53.09 - That it's not just stories. 00:24:53.09\00:24:54.19 - Right, and it's a reminder 00:24:54.19\00:24:55.42 that someday he is gonna judge the world again. 00:24:55.42\00:24:57.06 And this time by fire. 00:24:57.06\00:24:58.39 And he's providing a means of eternal salvation 00:24:58.39\00:25:00.10 from our sins through the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:25:00.10\00:25:01.56 - Amen. 00:25:01.56\00:25:02.50 In the last couple of minutes, 00:25:02.50\00:25:03.93 is there a story that comes to your mind 00:25:03.93\00:25:05.47 of someone who came here 00:25:05.47\00:25:06.63 and all of a sudden gave their life to God? 00:25:06.63\00:25:09.44 Tell me. - Yeah, there was one. 00:25:09.44\00:25:11.24 I think it was about a year after we opened, 00:25:11.24\00:25:12.54 I was walking out on the left side there, 00:25:12.54\00:25:13.88 we have a gift shop at the bottom, 00:25:13.88\00:25:15.44 and I was walking out of there and somebody saw my badge, 00:25:15.44\00:25:18.18 and he said, "Sir, do you work here?" 00:25:18.18\00:25:19.48 I said, yes. 00:25:19.48\00:25:20.65 And he said, "I just need to tell you." 00:25:20.65\00:25:22.15 And they were walking over to the restaurant over there 00:25:22.15\00:25:24.22 for dinner or for lunch. 00:25:24.22\00:25:26.35 And he said, "See that young man walking with my family? 00:25:26.35\00:25:28.59 That's my son-in-law. 00:25:28.59\00:25:29.82 We were just up on the third deck of the Ark 00:25:29.82\00:25:31.49 and he just gave his life to the Lord 00:25:31.49\00:25:33.33 after watching this presentation of the gospel." 00:25:33.33\00:25:34.73 - [Jim] Amen. 00:25:34.73\00:25:35.86 - And... 00:25:35.86\00:25:36.87 - That makes it all worth it. 00:25:36.87\00:25:38.00 - Absolutely, all the long hours, 00:25:38.00\00:25:39.60 everything we did for it right there, 00:25:39.60\00:25:41.97 that makes it worthwhile. 00:25:41.97\00:25:43.17 And we've had other similar testimonies. 00:25:43.17\00:25:44.41 So praise God for that, and, you know, 00:25:44.41\00:25:46.41 his word did not return to him void. 00:25:46.41\00:25:48.11 And we have his word throughout the Ark. 00:25:48.11\00:25:51.31 - [Jim] Amen, amen. 00:25:51.31\00:25:52.31 - I'm so thankful for that. 00:25:52.31\00:25:53.52 And what a privilege to be a part of it. 00:25:53.52\00:25:55.72 - You know, folks, the Bible's true. 00:25:55.72\00:25:58.72 God's word is true. 00:25:58.72\00:26:00.06 The Ark was real and it's real here now 00:26:00.92\00:26:03.83 and God is calling you into his ark of safety, 00:26:03.83\00:26:06.49 into an incredible life with him. 00:26:06.49\00:26:09.20 And as Tim had said, he's coming soon. 00:26:09.20\00:26:10.83 He's going to cleanse this Earth again, 00:26:10.83\00:26:12.80 not by water this time, but by fire. 00:26:12.80\00:26:14.97 And will you come into his ark of safety? 00:26:14.97\00:26:17.51 That's the question. 00:26:17.51\00:26:18.71 And Tim, I wanna thank you today so much 00:26:18.71\00:26:21.08 for coming and sharing with us. 00:26:21.08\00:26:22.08 - Absolutely. 00:26:22.08\00:26:23.24 - I hope people will come here and visit 00:26:23.24\00:26:25.15 because it's a moving experience. 00:26:25.15\00:26:26.55 - It's been great to be a part of it. 00:26:26.55\00:26:29.02 Thank you. 00:26:29.02\00:26:29.95 (uplifting ancient music) 00:26:29.95\00:26:33.59 (gentle music) 00:26:50.11\00:26:51.54 - It's no secret that the world is in a major mess. 00:26:51.54\00:26:55.14 We are in a major mess. 00:26:55.14\00:26:57.45 Even if you have escaped many of life's difficulties, 00:26:57.45\00:27:00.82 most homes still struggle with daily living. 00:27:00.82\00:27:04.95 So the question arises, 00:27:04.95\00:27:07.16 is there hope for the future, for your future?
