Join us now for Country Wisdom. 00:00:23.82\00:00:25.52 (gentle music) 00:00:26.72\00:00:29.39 (indistinct chatter) 00:00:33.80\00:00:36.83 (long beeping) 00:00:41.17\00:00:43.74 You know, Jay, right now, while I'm talking, 00:00:45.44\00:00:47.31 I hope the camera's focused on that T-shirt 00:00:47.31\00:00:49.81 because that T-shirt really says it all, 00:00:49.81\00:00:52.55 saved by Jesus and an organ donor. 00:00:52.55\00:00:56.18 You're here today by a miracle, 00:00:56.18\00:00:58.85 and I don't think. 00:00:58.85\00:00:59.79 - More than one. 00:00:59.79\00:01:00.92 - More than one, yeah, more than one, 00:01:00.92\00:01:02.02 so we'd like to hear that story today. 00:01:02.02\00:01:03.63 We'll just let you kind of take it. 00:01:03.63\00:01:05.66 - Well, I appreciate the opportunity 00:01:05.66\00:01:08.33 to tell you my life and how it transpired, 00:01:08.33\00:01:11.63 particularly over the last five months, 00:01:11.63\00:01:14.64 in a dramatic way, but in a real positive way. 00:01:14.64\00:01:18.27 The Lord is good. 00:01:20.11\00:01:21.24 I shouldn't be here. 00:01:22.34\00:01:23.51 I should have died more than once. 00:01:24.61\00:01:26.85 And I'm very grateful that God saw through a bigger purpose 00:01:26.85\00:01:31.92 because what transpired, 00:01:33.62\00:01:36.62 starting back in March of this year, 00:01:36.62\00:01:38.66 culminated to a new heart, 00:01:40.33\00:01:42.80 physical new heart, and I'm very grateful, 00:01:44.00\00:01:48.10 very grateful to be here today, talking to you guys. 00:01:48.10\00:01:51.37 - We're grateful for that too. 00:01:51.37\00:01:52.91 And Janice, maybe tell him why we're so far apart. 00:01:52.91\00:01:54.71 - Right, we purposely are outdoors 00:01:54.71\00:01:57.71 and far more separate from you. 00:01:57.71\00:02:00.05 Usually whoever we're talking to is right nearby, 00:02:00.05\00:02:03.02 but we don't want to do anything to compromise you 00:02:03.02\00:02:06.19 because you're still in some ways in precarious health 00:02:06.19\00:02:10.86 in that your immune system, 00:02:10.86\00:02:13.50 you have to be given time to recover from this 00:02:13.50\00:02:16.26 and to make sure nothing's going to reject that heart. 00:02:16.26\00:02:18.33 - Yeah, and I appreciate that, 00:02:18.33\00:02:20.10 that's just part of the process. 00:02:20.10\00:02:21.87 You have some rules you have to go by, but in the long run, 00:02:23.24\00:02:26.21 once you get through this first year, you're home free, 00:02:26.21\00:02:29.44 and I wanna say that my new heart, I've had no rejection, 00:02:29.44\00:02:33.48 I've had eight biopsies, I do another one, 00:02:33.48\00:02:36.02 and Lord is blessing me, 00:02:36.02\00:02:38.25 and he handpicked this heart. 00:02:38.25\00:02:40.82 And I wanna tell you that story of how it all transpired. 00:02:40.82\00:02:45.36 - Yeah, briefly, what led up to your doctor saying, 00:02:45.36\00:02:48.43 here's your only choice. 00:02:49.50\00:02:50.77 - Yeah. 00:02:50.77\00:02:52.03 Well, you know, I was given a gene 00:02:52.03\00:02:56.57 that is very much a dangerous gene, 00:02:57.81\00:03:01.01 which I didn't know about it. 00:03:01.01\00:03:02.68 Obviously, I have some family history. 00:03:02.68\00:03:05.48 My grandfather, his brothers, my uncle, 00:03:05.48\00:03:09.05 my mom, she died of congestive heart failure, 00:03:09.05\00:03:12.82 and then it all culminated back when I was 45, 00:03:12.82\00:03:17.16 so that's been 11 years ago 00:03:17.16\00:03:18.99 that this gene started to kind of react and not knowing, 00:03:18.99\00:03:22.90 what it could culminate to. 00:03:22.90\00:03:25.80 I got my first pacemaker in 2011 00:03:25.80\00:03:29.74 that transpired to a defibrillator pacer in 2017. 00:03:29.74\00:03:34.51 I've had multiple ablation surgeries, 00:03:34.51\00:03:36.58 try to fix this crazy genetic rhythm issue. 00:03:36.58\00:03:41.65 And then in March of this year, 00:03:42.45\00:03:45.79 it started really culminating to react in a negative way. 00:03:45.79\00:03:50.73 Won't feeling the greatest, 00:03:51.93\00:03:52.73 decided to go into the ER, 00:03:52.73\00:03:55.60 and what, I was glad I did 00:03:55.60\00:03:58.33 'cause I was in a sustained Ventricular Tach, 00:03:58.33\00:04:00.97 which is a very dangerous rhythm, 00:04:00.97\00:04:05.11 and they got me stable. 00:04:05.11\00:04:05.91 I remember that early morning, 00:04:05.91\00:04:08.44 my cardiologists coming in 00:04:08.44\00:04:10.01 and I guess I was taking a real turn for the worst, 00:04:10.01\00:04:12.91 but my life was saved then, 00:04:12.91\00:04:15.55 but I didn't think it was gonna be saved 00:04:15.55\00:04:17.42 because of the way I was feeling, 00:04:17.42\00:04:19.19 and I could see in the doctor's eyes, 00:04:19.19\00:04:20.79 it was not a good situation. 00:04:20.79\00:04:23.09 In that moment, I basically said my peace with the Lord. 00:04:23.09\00:04:26.63 I said, Lord, I love you, 00:04:26.63\00:04:29.70 I wanna be with you in heaven, 00:04:29.70\00:04:30.83 and I asked him for forgiveness of sins. 00:04:30.83\00:04:33.80 I said, but if you want me to still be here on this earth, 00:04:33.80\00:04:37.41 then you're gonna have a purpose. 00:04:37.41\00:04:38.94 - Jay, if I can, I'm gonna leave you right at that moment. 00:04:38.94\00:04:42.34 Let's go back to previous history. 00:04:42.34\00:04:45.25 Were you're a Christian? 00:04:45.25\00:04:46.55 Did you love God? 00:04:46.55\00:04:47.58 What was your spiritual life like? 00:04:47.58\00:04:49.38 Kind of unpack some of that for us, if you would. 00:04:49.38\00:04:51.62 - Yeah, I've grown up a Christian my whole life, 00:04:51.62\00:04:53.89 I went to Christian education, 00:04:53.89\00:04:55.89 I've had a good family upbringing, 00:04:57.09\00:05:00.23 we had worships in our family, 00:05:00.23\00:05:02.60 but to be honest, I wasn't on fire for the Lord. 00:05:02.60\00:05:06.27 I was considered what you would call 00:05:06.27\00:05:08.84 the Laodicea church, 00:05:08.84\00:05:10.57 but the Laodicea person, lukewarm, 00:05:10.57\00:05:12.81 and you know, that's not the way to be, 00:05:12.81\00:05:15.24 you're not, you really can't go through life doing that 00:05:15.24\00:05:19.05 as a Christian upfront, 00:05:19.05\00:05:21.12 but in inside, are you really in communication, 00:05:21.12\00:05:24.92 and do you have Christ in your life on a daily basis? 00:05:24.92\00:05:28.79 Well, I think it took this experience 00:05:28.79\00:05:31.53 that I'm talking to you about today 00:05:31.53\00:05:33.50 to realize for me personally 00:05:33.50\00:05:36.30 that there is definitely a trust factor 00:05:36.30\00:05:39.90 that you gotta have and you gotta trust in your Lord 00:05:39.90\00:05:42.50 to give you a new heart spiritually, every day. 00:05:42.50\00:05:45.71 I've been gifted with a new heart physically, 00:05:46.98\00:05:50.41 but that spiritual aspect, it needs to be daily, 00:05:50.41\00:05:53.78 and here's the deal, I didn't realize it 00:05:53.78\00:05:56.22 until this whole experience 00:05:56.22\00:05:57.35 that Christ gave his heart for us, right? 00:05:57.35\00:06:01.19 And ultimately, it was death. 00:06:01.19\00:06:03.63 So, reality is, that gift 00:06:03.63\00:06:06.59 of having a spiritual new heart 00:06:06.59\00:06:08.56 is available for us every day. 00:06:08.56\00:06:10.80 Now, not everybody gets a physical new heart 00:06:11.87\00:06:14.30 that is in need of one. 00:06:14.30\00:06:16.40 I'm lucky. 00:06:16.40\00:06:17.71 I'm lucky. 00:06:17.71\00:06:18.61 - You weren't on the list very long, were you? 00:06:20.04\00:06:22.08 - No, not at all. 00:06:22.08\00:06:23.78 I got through that one situation in March, 00:06:25.81\00:06:28.42 and it was doing okay. 00:06:28.42\00:06:29.72 It ended up having a major, another major ablation 00:06:29.72\00:06:33.19 that they're trying to fix it 00:06:33.19\00:06:35.06 'cause ultimately, this, the last resort is 00:06:35.06\00:06:38.76 a brand new physical heart, 00:06:39.83\00:06:41.26 I mean, that, you don't wanna go there, 00:06:41.26\00:06:43.23 but if you, they're trying to do everything possible. 00:06:43.23\00:06:46.10 Well, they thought it was successful with that procedure. 00:06:46.10\00:06:49.04 It ended up not working 00:06:49.90\00:06:52.37 because on April 12th, I had a very traumatic, 00:06:52.37\00:06:55.91 probably the most traumatic experience of my life, 00:06:55.91\00:06:58.91 just here at the end of the driveway, 00:06:58.91\00:07:00.28 I was actually going to rehab for my previous surgery 00:07:00.28\00:07:03.35 and my defibrillator decided to go off. 00:07:03.35\00:07:06.42 I'd never been shocked before. 00:07:06.42\00:07:07.52 It always paced down this crazy rhythm, 00:07:07.52\00:07:09.99 that's what it's designed to do. 00:07:09.99\00:07:11.59 And all, the pacer is an internal shocking system 00:07:11.59\00:07:16.03 to shock it back in rhythm. 00:07:16.03\00:07:17.17 You're supposed to go back in rhythm 00:07:17.17\00:07:18.37 within a one or two shocks. 00:07:18.37\00:07:20.60 - Is that something you really physically feel? 00:07:20.60\00:07:23.41 - Oh, absolutely. 00:07:23.41\00:07:24.34 - [Jim] Absolutely. 00:07:24.34\00:07:25.37 - It knocks people down. 00:07:25.37\00:07:26.71 Yeah, I'm pretty much in good shape otherwise, health-wise. 00:07:28.54\00:07:32.55 I was in the car sitting down. 00:07:32.55\00:07:34.08 The Lord blessed me without being on the highway 00:07:34.08\00:07:37.72 'cause it could have been very traumatic experience 00:07:37.72\00:07:40.22 and I could have crashed, 00:07:40.22\00:07:42.79 but anyway, I was at the end of the driveway, 00:07:42.79\00:07:45.79 I got shocked for the first time, 00:07:45.79\00:07:46.90 I knew what it was, you kind of black out, 00:07:46.90\00:07:49.56 came back in, kept getting shocked, 00:07:49.56\00:07:51.73 woke my wife up from a dead sleep. 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.20 It's very painful as we got to get to the emergency 00:07:54.20\00:07:58.14 because I knew what was gonna calm it down 00:07:58.14\00:08:00.71 from the previous experience and it's magic Lidocaine, 00:08:00.71\00:08:05.78 they call it rocket fuel for irregular rhythms, 00:08:06.88\00:08:09.48 so we, my wife was, had the spirit with her. 00:08:09.48\00:08:13.29 She drove like cool as a cucumber, and we. 00:08:13.29\00:08:16.66 - I'm still, I got to interrupt, 00:08:16.66\00:08:18.03 I'm still hung up on these shocks, 00:08:18.03\00:08:19.69 and, you know, you kind of just pass over it like, 00:08:19.69\00:08:22.23 yes, it's a hard deal. 00:08:22.23\00:08:23.60 - We have all seen medical shows with the paddles, 00:08:23.60\00:08:26.60 and it, you come off the table 00:08:26.60\00:08:28.10 and that's happening to you from the inside? 00:08:28.10\00:08:30.91 - Yes, that's what an internal defibrillator device does, 00:08:30.91\00:08:35.64 and it's the last resort 00:08:35.64\00:08:36.88 because if you don't get that out of rhythm, 00:08:36.88\00:08:39.51 then you could die instantly, and you know. 00:08:39.51\00:08:43.28 - And you're walking around and that's going on? 00:08:43.28\00:08:45.75 It never. 00:08:45.75\00:08:46.59 - Well, yeah. 00:08:46.59\00:08:47.72 In the car, all total, it went off 26 times. 00:08:47.72\00:08:52.49 Now that is unheard of. 00:08:53.16\00:08:54.83 The people at the emergency said, we haven't seen this, 00:08:54.83\00:08:58.77 you're lucky to be here from that. 00:08:58.77\00:09:01.30 It's just one of those things that that's a lot. 00:09:01.30\00:09:03.77 - I'll tell you right now, 00:09:03.77\00:09:04.87 our doctor volunteer's on the other camera, 00:09:04.87\00:09:07.71 he shaking his head, you know, thinking about that. 00:09:07.71\00:09:11.71 - Well, it was supposed to go off 21 more times 00:09:11.71\00:09:14.78 according to the records 00:09:14.78\00:09:16.58 'cause they have all this in your device, it's a computer, 00:09:16.58\00:09:19.42 and it didn't have the capacitor strength to do it. 00:09:19.42\00:09:22.62 So I shouldn't have made it then. 00:09:22.62\00:09:24.23 I mean, medically, that's number two in a period, 00:09:24.23\00:09:29.26 yeah, second time that you've been gifted. 00:09:30.37\00:09:33.80 Well, the next phase was okay, 00:09:33.80\00:09:37.61 he's not well off, so I got transferred to 00:09:37.61\00:09:40.74 Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital up in Nashville, 00:09:40.74\00:09:43.85 and they saw immediately that there wasn't many options, 00:09:43.85\00:09:47.98 but they wanna give you the options. 00:09:47.98\00:09:49.78 And ultimately the option was, 00:09:49.78\00:09:51.89 you're a good candidate for a heart transplant. 00:09:51.89\00:09:54.99 And there was eight specialists that came in 00:09:54.99\00:09:57.49 on that Wednesday morning, 00:09:57.49\00:10:00.16 and that was on April the 14th, I won't forget that day, 00:10:00.16\00:10:05.20 and they're basically throwing a lot of stuff at you. 00:10:06.47\00:10:08.54 I didn't know how serious it really was 00:10:10.11\00:10:12.27 'cause I can talk just like I'm talking to you 00:10:12.27\00:10:15.54 and feel okay if I'm not in some crazy rhythm, 00:10:15.54\00:10:18.68 but if you're in some crazy rhythm, 00:10:18.68\00:10:19.95 it's very serious, 00:10:19.95\00:10:22.28 and so they saw that, and I'm going, 00:10:22.28\00:10:24.72 so, if you're in my shoes, what would you do? 00:10:24.72\00:10:28.12 And they said, you need a heart transplant. 00:10:28.12\00:10:30.79 So that culminated to, okay, we're gonna move forward, 00:10:30.79\00:10:34.46 I have no other option. 00:10:34.46\00:10:35.93 And they worked very closely. 00:10:35.93\00:10:39.73 They said, you're gonna go into two. 00:10:39.73\00:10:41.70 Now there's a scale of, like, one to six on a rating, 00:10:41.70\00:10:45.91 and two's very high. 00:10:45.91\00:10:48.21 I mean, you gotta get one pretty quickly, 00:10:48.21\00:10:50.38 I, knowing that now. 00:10:50.38\00:10:52.51 And so they went through some tests and I qualified, 00:10:52.51\00:10:56.32 they said, oh, you're a perfect candidate 00:10:56.32\00:10:57.72 'cause I basically lived a good life. 00:10:57.72\00:11:00.36 I don't smoke, I don't drink, 00:11:00.36\00:11:01.92 I get good health standards, I just had a bum heart, 00:11:01.92\00:11:05.63 and they saw all that. 00:11:05.63\00:11:06.43 They said, and I'm fairly young, 00:11:06.43\00:11:09.10 I'm 56 and so there's. 00:11:09.10\00:11:11.23 - In going this time, walk us through a little bit of your, 00:11:11.23\00:11:16.30 what's going on with you and the Lord. 00:11:17.41\00:11:19.44 - Well, I already saw that there was gifted of life 00:11:19.44\00:11:24.51 and that he granted me purpose, 00:11:26.41\00:11:29.12 so I'd been, I had a miracle happen on that first situation 00:11:29.12\00:11:34.19 from the surgery they had in March, 00:11:35.29\00:11:37.53 and that was a direct hand from God, 00:11:37.53\00:11:40.33 basically coming in and giving healing immediately 00:11:41.76\00:11:46.17 to what is called heart edema, cardiac edema. 00:11:47.37\00:11:51.77 I've experienced it before with another surgery, 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.71 so it's drowning, and he healed me from that, 00:11:55.71\00:11:58.61 and I felt the hand of God. 00:11:58.61\00:11:59.95 - The older I get, the more I realize 00:12:01.88\00:12:04.02 that the years of this life are finite. 00:12:04.02\00:12:07.42 You see, we are born with an incurable disease called death. 00:12:07.42\00:12:11.86 It will happen to all of us unless the Lord comes soon, 00:12:11.86\00:12:16.26 but this was not God's plan, 00:12:16.26\00:12:18.50 this was the work of the devil. 00:12:18.50\00:12:20.97 But our God has a plan that ends in eternal life 00:12:20.97\00:12:24.64 for those who buy into his plan. 00:12:24.64\00:12:27.21 I have a pamphlet here I'd like to offer you for free. 00:12:27.21\00:12:30.75 Yes, free. 00:12:30.75\00:12:32.01 Go to TalkingDonkeyInternational.org, 00:12:32.01\00:12:35.02 and request offer #111. 00:12:35.02\00:12:37.62 You Can Live Forever. 00:12:37.62\00:12:40.06 - The hand of God when you felt, 00:13:24.27\00:13:27.60 you said you recognized it 00:13:27.60\00:13:28.80 from previous complication of surgery. 00:13:28.80\00:13:31.24 - Because I know the same God of the Bible 00:13:31.24\00:13:32.57 is the same God today. 00:13:32.57\00:13:33.54 He does mighty things, 00:13:33.54\00:13:34.94 so you've got to unpack that story a little more for us. 00:13:34.94\00:13:37.51 - [Jay] Okay. 00:13:37.51\00:13:38.58 - You said you were trying to decide 00:13:38.58\00:13:39.65 whether to push that nurse's button. 00:13:39.65\00:13:40.95 - Yes, well, I was in the hospital coming out of surgery, 00:13:40.95\00:13:45.52 I came out fine. 00:13:45.52\00:13:47.19 I'll never forget it was a 12 o'clock at midnight 00:13:47.19\00:13:50.43 and I'm wide awake, 00:13:50.43\00:13:53.16 and I felt this cardiac edema come on. 00:13:53.16\00:13:55.86 Uh-oh, I don't really wanna deal with this 00:13:58.17\00:14:00.20 'cause I know what that's about. 00:14:00.20\00:14:01.74 The only way you can get it off is with a BiPAP, 00:14:01.74\00:14:03.64 that gets really bad or surgically remove the fluid. 00:14:03.64\00:14:06.88 So I'm like, man, I really, Lord you can take this away. 00:14:06.88\00:14:11.95 So I just really opened up and just in the hospital bed, 00:14:13.28\00:14:15.28 my wife's just wore outside asleep, 00:14:15.28\00:14:17.35 so it's just me and God really. 00:14:17.35\00:14:19.92 And I said, look, you know, I don't, 00:14:19.92\00:14:22.12 you know what's going on here, 00:14:22.12\00:14:23.29 but you can take this away, 00:14:23.29\00:14:25.76 and I'm gonna ask you to take this away, 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.66 I'm gonna go ahead and thank you for it. 00:14:27.66\00:14:29.10 It's the positive way, 00:14:29.10\00:14:30.33 which I went through in this late seventies. 00:14:30.33\00:14:32.60 And then, you know, I said, thank you for doing this, 00:14:33.97\00:14:36.50 and I want you to know that I very quickly, 00:14:36.50\00:14:39.04 I felt the hand of God coming in, 00:14:39.04\00:14:41.38 whatever you wanna call it, the hand, spirit, 00:14:41.38\00:14:45.11 and it went right to that spot. 00:14:45.11\00:14:46.51 And I'm telling you it was gone. 00:14:46.51\00:14:49.22 It's a miracle, I mean, that's a small miracle, 00:14:50.35\00:14:52.32 but it gave me a lot of faith. 00:14:52.32\00:14:54.42 And I feel like that little things like that 00:14:54.42\00:14:56.96 in people's lives can sure give strength and give clarity 00:14:56.96\00:15:02.00 as you go through life, 00:15:02.66\00:15:05.03 and we need to hear more of those little miracles. 00:15:05.03\00:15:07.74 - Well, thank you. 00:15:07.74\00:15:08.84 It took us a little bit to pull it out of him. 00:15:08.84\00:15:10.11 Well, we got it. 00:15:10.11\00:15:11.41 Now let's go back to you're number two on a list, 00:15:11.41\00:15:14.58 maybe of six. 00:15:14.58\00:15:16.14 Go ahead. 00:15:16.14\00:15:17.41 - Yeah, so to stay at a two, 00:15:17.41\00:15:21.72 because I'm on electrical situation then, 00:15:21.72\00:15:25.45 there's a group that's called UNOS, 00:15:25.45\00:15:27.26 it's a National Network for Organ Sharing. 00:15:27.26\00:15:29.16 And they control who is eligible for organs 00:15:29.16\00:15:33.40 to make sure that it's the right person, 00:15:35.60\00:15:37.87 everything that's good. 00:15:37.87\00:15:39.20 You call like the federal government of organ donor, 00:15:40.60\00:15:42.90 but they're there to protect, okay. 00:15:42.90\00:15:45.47 The rule with electrical changed 00:15:46.68\00:15:49.91 and they needed some additional activity 00:15:49.91\00:15:52.55 because I had been put on this rocket fuel, 00:15:52.55\00:15:55.28 I didn't have any activities sitting in bed 00:15:55.28\00:15:57.19 for some period of time. 00:15:57.19\00:15:58.29 - So, now you seem fine for the moment. 00:15:58.29\00:15:59.65 - For the moment, 00:15:59.65\00:16:01.09 but yet you're still being controlled by this med, 00:16:01.09\00:16:02.82 so you don't react because my heart was tired, 00:16:02.82\00:16:05.69 it was irritated, it was done. 00:16:05.69\00:16:08.16 And they knew it, but we had to prove it to this group. 00:16:08.16\00:16:11.80 - To stable now, basically. 00:16:11.80\00:16:13.77 - To stable, if you wanna call it that. 00:16:13.77\00:16:15.80 So they sent the head of the department in and he comes in 00:16:15.80\00:16:19.04 and he's there to kind of get some activity 00:16:19.04\00:16:21.14 by getting you angry, getting you riled up. 00:16:21.14\00:16:23.45 I didn't know what he was there for, 00:16:25.81\00:16:27.82 but he's there to say, well, we got a dilemma, Mr. Jones. 00:16:27.82\00:16:32.22 You can't be on this drip for the rest of your life. 00:16:33.62\00:16:35.82 And we got this situation and we all knew you need a heart, 00:16:35.82\00:16:39.73 but if we take in and push the issue and get your heart, 00:16:39.73\00:16:43.93 then they're gonna shut our program down 00:16:43.93\00:16:45.50 because it's against their rule. 00:16:45.50\00:16:47.17 And so I said, well, I don't want that. 00:16:47.17\00:16:49.24 And I said, but we might have to put an LVAD in, 00:16:49.24\00:16:52.01 which is an artificial heart as a bridge. 00:16:52.01\00:16:54.24 And we might have to do all this stuff, 00:16:54.24\00:16:57.71 and I'm going, where in the world is this coming from? 00:16:57.71\00:17:01.35 And I'm like, well you know what, doc 00:17:01.35\00:17:03.18 I said, my Lord's got the heart already picked out. 00:17:03.18\00:17:06.79 And I said, if I have to go down to a six 00:17:06.79\00:17:08.79 and I gotta wait a year or whatever, 00:17:08.79\00:17:10.96 then so be it because I trust in him. 00:17:10.96\00:17:13.90 And I said, I'm sorry, but you need to take me off this, 00:17:13.90\00:17:18.03 and let me walk through, 00:17:18.03\00:17:18.83 take me off this "Rocket Fuel", 00:17:18.83\00:17:20.44 and let me walk down the hall 00:17:20.44\00:17:21.54 and I'll give you Ventricular Tach 00:17:21.54\00:17:22.64 because that's what this is all about. 00:17:22.64\00:17:24.97 - So your line, is this pretty stable yet? 00:17:24.97\00:17:27.21 He didn't get a rise out of you. 00:17:27.21\00:17:28.68 - No he didn't, but he did out of my wife, 00:17:28.68\00:17:31.25 my wife got really upset. 00:17:31.25\00:17:32.58 So you're gonna send him home to die? 00:17:32.58\00:17:34.52 That upset me. 00:17:37.99\00:17:38.92 I went from 80 to 280, just like that, 00:17:40.02\00:17:42.16 and it was that serious. 00:17:43.19\00:17:45.73 I hear like a bunch of elephants coming down the hall 00:17:45.73\00:17:47.86 with nurses and it's going off, you know, 00:17:47.86\00:17:50.47 they're seeing it and hold it all back, hold back, 00:17:50.47\00:17:53.23 he's fine, he's fine, 00:17:53.23\00:17:54.34 and well, that's what they needed, 00:17:54.34\00:17:57.21 that's what they needed to pass the test. 00:17:57.21\00:17:59.81 But I really think I passed the test for my Lord, 00:17:59.81\00:18:02.01 'cause I gave him, gave him the glory and trust. 00:18:02.01\00:18:06.48 But at the same time, 00:18:06.48\00:18:07.82 I passed the test for the doc and the hospital. 00:18:07.82\00:18:10.35 He came back in 10 minutes later, he goes, 00:18:11.39\00:18:13.59 you're officially a two and you could get a heart tonight. 00:18:14.96\00:18:17.63 So, that was a big moment. 00:18:18.69\00:18:21.56 So we transpired, 00:18:23.47\00:18:25.33 I actually had some more episodes in the hospital. 00:18:25.33\00:18:27.64 I did get shocked again. 00:18:27.64\00:18:28.94 They just finally just turned off the defibrillator 00:18:28.94\00:18:31.34 and said, well, it ain't do any good. 00:18:31.34\00:18:33.21 And why put him through that torture anymore? 00:18:33.21\00:18:35.21 It still worked because I needed a pacer to run the heart, 00:18:35.21\00:18:38.41 but 'cause of a block situations, 00:18:38.41\00:18:40.75 it's a messed up gene, 00:18:40.75\00:18:42.48 it's a cursed gene. 00:18:42.48\00:18:43.55 But I'll never forget on May the 4th, 00:18:44.79\00:18:48.89 my surgeon come in at seven in the morning. 00:18:50.03\00:18:52.59 I said, you got a heart? 00:18:52.59\00:18:54.30 Yes, yes, sir. 00:18:55.30\00:18:56.10 We got one, it's a good one. 00:18:56.10\00:18:58.17 - [Jim] Did your wife get to hear that? 00:18:58.17\00:18:59.70 - No she wasn't there at that early in the morning. 00:18:59.70\00:19:02.70 They keep you up all night, you know? 00:19:02.70\00:19:04.11 So you're wide awake at seven in the morning 00:19:04.11\00:19:05.84 when you're in the hospital. 00:19:05.84\00:19:07.78 And he says, hey, we could go into surgery by noon. 00:19:07.78\00:19:11.61 So we're gonna be doing some things. 00:19:11.61\00:19:13.48 Well it ended up getting delayed, they had weather 00:19:13.48\00:19:16.52 issues. You got four hours and five minutes to get that organ 00:19:16.52\00:19:19.12 from the recipient to you, and that's it. 00:19:19.12\00:19:23.76 There's no good. 00:19:23.76\00:19:24.79 So there's time sensitivity. 00:19:24.79\00:19:26.80 And to be able to match up a heart to the person, 00:19:28.13\00:19:31.50 there's a lot involved, there's the blood type, 00:19:31.50\00:19:34.67 there's the size, there's all this stuff, 00:19:34.67\00:19:36.57 that's why they take lots of blood and do all these tests 00:19:36.57\00:19:39.14 because you gotta have that miracle to happen as well. 00:19:39.14\00:19:44.21 So, it ended up being the morning of the 5th, 00:19:46.41\00:19:50.02 at two in the morning, we had the surgery, 00:19:50.02\00:19:52.49 and I'll never forget, I said, 00:19:52.49\00:19:53.89 my one request is I wanna have prayer with the team, 00:19:53.89\00:19:56.56 and you, and we did that. 00:19:56.56\00:19:58.09 And I'll never forget my last words before the surgery. 00:19:59.43\00:20:01.20 I said, Godspeed with you, 00:20:01.20\00:20:02.30 I'm wide awake, so I got your heart right here. 00:20:02.30\00:20:05.77 It's kind of interesting. 00:20:05.77\00:20:07.20 It's there on ice. 00:20:08.10\00:20:09.60 So anyway, it was about five and a half hour surgery. 00:20:09.60\00:20:13.48 I had about a two hour recovery. 00:20:13.48\00:20:15.38 So I'm up at 11 in the morning 00:20:15.38\00:20:17.18 and they're walking me to the chair. 00:20:17.18\00:20:19.31 They said it was a record, I don't know. 00:20:19.31\00:20:21.12 They said he's gonna sleep all day, they called my wife, 00:20:21.12\00:20:23.28 she had left. He said, he's up. 00:20:23.28\00:20:25.19 God already had plans to move forward, I guess. 00:20:27.36\00:20:29.76 So anyway, had some complications after I got 00:20:31.36\00:20:34.56 through those with my kidneys and I was released on the 20th 00:20:34.56\00:20:38.77 of May, that was after 39 days of being in the hospital. 00:20:40.30\00:20:43.27 I was about 21 days of being assessed 00:20:44.67\00:20:49.64 that you needed a heart. 00:20:51.68\00:20:53.55 And only 13 days from the time I was officially on the list 00:20:53.55\00:20:57.09 to get a heart, that's record speed, 00:20:57.09\00:20:59.62 because on the day I was released, 00:20:59.62\00:21:02.19 the assistant to the surgeon, I said, 00:21:02.19\00:21:03.73 man, I can't thank you guys enough, 00:21:03.73\00:21:05.39 it's great staff, I mean, you have really taken care of me. 00:21:05.39\00:21:09.70 And I said, you said, we need to get a heart 00:21:09.70\00:21:11.40 within four weeks. 00:21:11.40\00:21:13.00 He goes, no sir. 00:21:13.00\00:21:15.10 He said, you had less than that. 00:21:15.10\00:21:16.77 You had about a week to week and a half left. 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.94 So Lord knew what the timing was. 00:21:21.04\00:21:22.94 - Wow. 00:21:22.94\00:21:23.78 - He got a good one. 00:21:23.78\00:21:24.85 Surgeon said, it's a great heart. 00:21:24.85\00:21:26.65 The only thing I know is that that's younger. 00:21:27.75\00:21:30.19 It's 20 times better than the one I had, 00:21:30.19\00:21:32.32 and they played soccer, so got some athletic, 00:21:32.32\00:21:35.99 going for you there. 00:21:37.16\00:21:38.59 So, I'm thankful to be alive today 00:21:38.59\00:21:43.30 because I wouldn't have, 00:21:43.30\00:21:44.80 if I had not been gifted from a donor, from a recipient, 00:21:44.80\00:21:49.37 the gift of a new heart and for God to intervene 00:21:50.84\00:21:55.34 and work through the timing, 00:21:55.34\00:21:56.58 I was at the right place at the right time 00:21:56.58\00:21:58.48 with the right folks and everything lined up. 00:21:58.48\00:22:01.88 I don't think that can happen unless it's intervention 00:22:01.88\00:22:05.29 with what I've heard from previous recipients, 00:22:05.29\00:22:09.22 I'm thankful to my family and everyone that prayed for me. 00:22:10.59\00:22:13.40 I had about 4,000 people lifting up prayers, this got out, 00:22:13.40\00:22:16.53 that gave me strength too, 00:22:18.80\00:22:20.64 I have a promise that I used a lot in my life, 00:22:22.20\00:22:25.24 it's Isaiah 26:3, 00:22:25.24\00:22:27.44 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, 00:22:27.44\00:22:29.08 whose mind is stayed on thee. 00:22:29.08\00:22:30.81 And that was a real strength for me 00:22:30.81\00:22:32.68 getting through this episode. 00:22:32.68\00:22:34.52 And it has been a strength for me throughout my life, 00:22:34.52\00:22:36.52 but it particularly given me peace, 00:22:36.52\00:22:38.69 having a good attitude with what you're being dealt with. 00:22:38.69\00:22:41.62 My new heart is strong physically, but at the same 00:22:44.93\00:22:49.26 time, there is the spiritual side of this. 00:22:50.93\00:22:53.40 You know, I mentioned I was a lukewarm Christian, 00:22:53.40\00:22:56.27 I'm not anymore. 00:22:56.27\00:22:57.11 God has shown me what he can do for you 00:22:59.77\00:23:02.98 and what he did for me physically. 00:23:02.98\00:23:04.98 But on a spiritual note, he already died for my sins. 00:23:04.98\00:23:09.58 He gave the gift of life 2000 years ago. 00:23:09.58\00:23:13.56 It's a gift for us, each and every day. 00:23:13.56\00:23:15.89 Now, we can take that gift for granted, 00:23:16.96\00:23:20.53 just like we do every day of our lives, 00:23:20.53\00:23:23.03 but I don't take this heart for granted, 00:23:24.40\00:23:26.27 that's physically given to me. 00:23:26.27\00:23:27.60 I now don't take the gift of spiritual gift that God gave us 00:23:27.60\00:23:31.81 by dying on the cross. 00:23:31.81\00:23:33.17 He gave me life physically, 00:23:35.08\00:23:37.05 but he gives me life spiritually. 00:23:37.05\00:23:39.65 I think it's important, and what I'm doing now is a more, 00:23:39.65\00:23:43.82 a daily relationship with him that is through prayer, 00:23:43.82\00:23:48.36 through study and just, we call it quiet time with him. 00:23:51.66\00:23:55.86 To me, that's the most important thing. 00:23:57.03\00:23:59.70 And I already know he's got a divine appointment for me, 00:23:59.70\00:24:02.67 and I asked for that every day, 00:24:02.67\00:24:04.74 what is it you got in store for me?
