(gentle music) 00:00:00.53\00:00:02.90 - Yes, stay right there. 00:00:05.80\00:00:07.87 Stay right there I will be right back. 00:00:08.97\00:00:11.94 Hey, welcome, everybody to A Talking Donkey International 00:00:13.74\00:00:16.04 in our new television series "Country Wisdom." 00:00:16.04\00:00:19.11 - Let's set the tone for this new series of ours, 00:00:19.11\00:00:22.12 it's found in Proverbs 4. 00:00:22.12\00:00:24.82 "Let your eyes look directly forward 00:00:24.82\00:00:27.62 "and your gaze be straight before you. 00:00:27.62\00:00:30.69 "Ponder the path of your feet and then all your ways 00:00:30.69\00:00:34.96 "will be sure." 00:00:34.96\00:00:36.70 - Join us now for "Country Wisdom." 00:00:36.70\00:00:38.93 (gentle music) 00:00:38.93\00:00:41.47 - I have to tell you, Jim, I love your garden. 00:00:48.08\00:00:50.91 This is so impressive, at least to me. 00:00:50.91\00:00:53.75 I mean, our garden is maybe a 10th the size 00:00:53.75\00:00:57.05 and I was impressed with it. 00:00:57.05\00:00:59.62 Steve doesn't let me up there very often 00:00:59.62\00:01:01.62 because I have a black thumb. 00:01:01.62\00:01:04.06 - He does the green at all. 00:01:04.06\00:01:05.36 - Yeah, in fact, you probably shouldn't let me 00:01:05.36\00:01:06.70 out here very long or things will just start wilting. 00:01:06.70\00:01:09.76 But you have done a great job. 00:01:09.76\00:01:12.40 - You know, Janice, I'm gonna tell you 00:01:12.40\00:01:13.87 it isn't me, it's God. 00:01:13.87\00:01:15.70 Because seriously, you know, I don't do anything 00:01:15.70\00:01:19.11 that a lot of gardeners do but I mean, 00:01:19.11\00:01:21.84 God brings the sunshine, He brings the rain, 00:01:21.84\00:01:24.88 you know, the water, even the fertilizer from the animals, 00:01:24.88\00:01:28.05 you know, in a roundabout way he brings, 00:01:28.05\00:01:29.98 He created it all. 00:01:29.98\00:01:31.25 - [Janice] Hadn't thought about it that way. 00:01:31.25\00:01:32.35 - Yeah, and when I get out here in the garden, 00:01:32.35\00:01:35.36 I get so excited thinking about God created all this, 00:01:35.36\00:01:39.03 all the different, I mean, 00:01:39.03\00:01:41.70 the different things are phenomenal, you know, from 00:01:41.70\00:01:44.90 squash to beans to Jerusalem-- - You obviously like squash. 00:01:44.90\00:01:48.70 I don't know that many varieties even grew. 00:01:48.70\00:01:51.71 - I got a little carried away because my wife planted 00:01:51.71\00:01:54.68 a lot of different starts and so I had them all I use them. 00:01:54.68\00:01:58.35 But you know, I think about right there in the beginning, 00:02:00.22\00:02:03.35 God created everything. 00:02:03.35\00:02:04.69 In a matter of fact, can I read you something? 00:02:04.69\00:02:06.02 - Sure. 00:02:06.02\00:02:07.09 - Headed here I think in Genesis 1, 00:02:07.09\00:02:09.26 very beginning of the Bible. 00:02:09.26\00:02:11.16 Nothing before that inspires the word for us. 00:02:11.16\00:02:13.33 Matter of fact, I think about, you know, 00:02:13.33\00:02:16.10 you've got the first two chapters tell us where we were, 00:02:16.10\00:02:19.80 the last two chapters tell us where we're gonna be 00:02:19.80\00:02:22.34 and everything in between tells us how to get back there. 00:02:22.34\00:02:25.71 Because there was a problem and interesting problem. 00:02:25.71\00:02:29.14 See, God created all this beauty. 00:02:29.14\00:02:32.01 Each day He did He'd say, it's good. 00:02:32.01\00:02:34.82 It's good, and He got down to the bottom 00:02:34.82\00:02:36.72 and He said he is very good. 00:02:36.72\00:02:38.62 And not just good from the hand of the Creator, 00:02:38.62\00:02:40.86 but very good. 00:02:40.86\00:02:41.99 Then He takes this garden that He's created and this world 00:02:43.36\00:02:47.03 and then He puts in verse eight of chapter two, 00:02:47.03\00:02:49.63 "And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, 00:02:49.63\00:02:52.60 "and there he put a man." 00:02:52.60\00:02:54.34 He created a special man. 00:02:54.34\00:02:55.94 Right back in the start, God said, 00:02:58.11\00:02:59.61 let us make man in our image after our likeness. 00:02:59.61\00:03:03.28 So the God had all three the Father, the Son, Holy Spirit, 00:03:03.28\00:03:06.11 God together, talked this all out and then decided 00:03:06.11\00:03:09.12 what it would take to represent them, 00:03:09.12\00:03:10.95 a very special creation, a very special being, 00:03:10.95\00:03:14.76 but He put man in the garden and He said, 00:03:14.76\00:03:17.73 is not good the man should be alone. 00:03:17.73\00:03:19.49 - Oh, it still isn't, 00:03:19.49\00:03:20.90 - Still isn't, still I can guarantee is still isn't. 00:03:20.90\00:03:23.87 And He caused asleep to fall upon man 00:03:23.87\00:03:26.77 and while he was asleep, He took a rib from his side 00:03:26.77\00:03:29.24 to create a woman not from his head, not from the foot 00:03:29.24\00:03:33.84 to be under the foot, but from the side, 00:03:33.84\00:03:35.58 they were to be helpmates together. 00:03:35.58\00:03:37.51 And that's what it took to represent God 00:03:37.51\00:03:40.72 as a man and a woman. 00:03:40.72\00:03:42.65 Each a man and a woman have their own very special traits. 00:03:42.65\00:03:46.35 You and I do a marriage program too, 00:03:46.35\00:03:48.86 man is not like a woman, a woman is not like a man, 00:03:50.23\00:03:52.33 regardless of what people say today. 00:03:52.33\00:03:54.76 - No, in fact, often have said to you things 00:03:54.76\00:03:57.40 I'll be talking about something I'll go, 00:03:57.40\00:03:59.13 well, I don't know, maybe it's different for you 00:03:59.13\00:04:00.74 being a guy but women, you know, tend this way 00:04:00.74\00:04:05.37 because I understand women. 00:04:05.37\00:04:07.61 I don't understand men so much but I know that together 00:04:09.24\00:04:13.48 we're whole lot healthier than apart. 00:04:13.48\00:04:17.42 - Yeah. 00:04:17.42\00:04:18.82 I think about the various names of God in the Bible. 00:04:18.82\00:04:20.99 And you got, you know, the Mighty God, 00:04:20.99\00:04:23.22 the Everlasting Father. 00:04:23.22\00:04:24.93 And then you've got to Jesus He calls, 00:04:24.93\00:04:26.86 oh how often I would have gathered you 00:04:26.86\00:04:29.06 as a mother hen gathers her chicks. 00:04:29.06\00:04:31.20 There He is El Shaddai, the Mighty breasted one 00:04:31.20\00:04:34.20 who would take all of the little chicks 00:04:34.20\00:04:36.20 under his wings in great protection. 00:04:36.20\00:04:38.54 That's a woman, that's a woman, the others, the man. 00:04:38.54\00:04:42.04 You know, and people today the devil wants to destroy 00:04:42.04\00:04:45.55 all of it, he wants to totally annihilate the semblance 00:04:45.55\00:04:49.22 of what God was really planning; husband and wife, 00:04:49.22\00:04:52.12 man and woman, the home, all of that. 00:04:52.12\00:04:55.22 - He wants to twist and destroy every good gift 00:04:55.22\00:04:58.86 God has given us. 00:04:58.86\00:05:00.26 - And He saw this garden, he got totally mad, totally upset, 00:05:00.26\00:05:03.73 and he comes down, he possesses basically 00:05:03.73\00:05:06.80 the most beautiful serpent in the garden at that time, 00:05:06.80\00:05:09.07 apparently it flew up on a tree. 00:05:09.07\00:05:11.17 - I have to tell you the thought of flying snakes. 00:05:11.17\00:05:14.01 - But this was a beautiful one. 00:05:14.81\00:05:16.21 And on top of that talked in human voice, and it began-- 00:05:16.21\00:05:19.91 - [Janice] That would get your attention. 00:05:19.91\00:05:21.18 - Yeah, well, you bet. 00:05:21.18\00:05:22.55 It begins wandering in the garden, 00:05:22.55\00:05:23.82 that day she's taking care of something 00:05:23.82\00:05:25.35 but she forgets a couple of things. 00:05:25.35\00:05:27.06 One, God said, don't leave the side of your mate 00:05:27.06\00:05:30.36 and she just kind of inadvertently wandered away. 00:05:30.36\00:05:33.13 And when she realized that, she should have run back 00:05:33.13\00:05:35.03 and gotten together because there was what 00:05:35.03\00:05:37.37 with that partnership. - Strength in numbers 00:05:37.37\00:05:39.13 - Strength in that partnership, yeah. 00:05:39.13\00:05:41.50 And so anyway, she's wandering out there 00:05:41.50\00:05:44.34 and she sees the tree of knowledge of good and evil 00:05:44.34\00:05:47.61 in the midst of this beautiful garden. 00:05:47.61\00:05:49.84 And that should have been another key because God said, 00:05:49.84\00:05:52.31 don't go over that tree, don't mess around that tree. 00:05:52.31\00:05:55.25 - They were not supposed to go near. 00:05:55.25\00:05:56.85 - Here's this beautiful voice and pretty soon, 00:05:56.85\00:05:59.32 we don't have time to go into the whole story 00:05:59.32\00:06:00.99 but basically, the devil tricked her. 00:06:00.99\00:06:02.99 She ate of the fruit because the devil is no, no, 00:06:02.99\00:06:06.16 God's wrong, you won't really die. 00:06:06.16\00:06:08.50 And she runs back to Adam, she takes that fruit 00:06:08.50\00:06:10.53 back to Adam too, and Adam, well, he falls, 00:06:10.53\00:06:15.00 he accepts the fruit too, and leads the entire human race 00:06:15.00\00:06:18.67 into a whole new situation. 00:06:18.67\00:06:20.94 And what can I say? 00:06:20.94\00:06:23.28 They felt guilty. 00:06:23.28\00:06:25.51 Now, what does guilt do? 00:06:25.51\00:06:26.45 What does it look like? 00:06:26.45\00:06:27.68 - Well, they went and hid from God, the next time He came. 00:06:29.05\00:06:32.22 They used to look forward to it, 00:06:32.22\00:06:33.52 used to like when you have company coming 00:06:33.52\00:06:35.92 that you haven't seen in a while, and you love these 00:06:35.92\00:06:39.13 people, you don't even stay inside, you go and run out to 00:06:39.13\00:06:42.90 greet them in the driveway. 00:06:42.90\00:06:44.20 - Yeah. 00:06:44.20\00:06:45.57 - They heard, saw God, and they went the other way. 00:06:45.57\00:06:48.90 And all that it changed was them. 00:06:48.90\00:06:50.91 - They had spent so much time with God, 00:06:50.91\00:06:52.71 we don't know how long, could have been, you know, 00:06:52.71\00:06:54.48 maybe who knows years. - It doesn't say. 00:06:54.48\00:06:56.31 - Spent that time with God but yet they ran away from Him 00:06:56.31\00:06:59.65 the second they heard Him this time 00:06:59.65\00:07:00.85 because they felt guilty. 00:07:00.85\00:07:02.32 Guilt creates fear. 00:07:02.32\00:07:04.35 And the devil loves fear because he can operate with fear, 00:07:05.65\00:07:08.72 he can twist you inside now with that fear and that guilt. 00:07:08.72\00:07:12.29 And you know, the sad situation about all this is, 00:07:12.29\00:07:16.77 is they continue to blame God, God it's all your fault, God. 00:07:16.77\00:07:20.64 And well, I've got a little note 00:07:21.57\00:07:24.64 I wanted to talk to you about to here. 00:07:24.64\00:07:27.41 It says, after sin, of course, they ran and hid 00:07:27.41\00:07:30.48 and they blamed God. 00:07:30.48\00:07:31.91 Then after sin, weed showed up in the garden. 00:07:31.91\00:07:35.35 - Everything changed. - Everything changed 00:07:35.35\00:07:37.35 after sin, they began fighting, had family fights, 00:07:37.35\00:07:41.76 after sin, brother killed brother, 00:07:41.76\00:07:45.33 after sin as time went on, they lived for almost 900 years 00:07:45.33\00:07:49.70 so they had a little time to think about all this 00:07:49.70\00:07:51.93 but I can imagine they continued to watch and see 00:07:51.93\00:07:54.57 the actions that they had caused. 00:07:54.57\00:07:57.37 In matter of fact, in the very beginning, 00:07:57.37\00:08:00.04 the first leaf that fell from the tree that died, 00:08:00.04\00:08:03.91 that probably caused Adam more guilt 00:08:03.91\00:08:08.55 than anything you can imagine 00:08:08.55\00:08:09.92 because they never seen anything like that happen. 00:08:09.92\00:08:11.42 - And they knew it was their fault. 00:08:11.42\00:08:13.22 - Knew it was their fault. 00:08:13.22\00:08:14.56 And then can you imagine when son killed son. 00:08:14.56\00:08:17.93 I can't even begin to imagine those conversations 00:08:17.93\00:08:20.26 between husband and wife. 00:08:20.26\00:08:21.36 Even though God had come in to save them 00:08:21.36\00:08:24.97 and gave a whole plan of salvation, 00:08:24.97\00:08:26.97 it was still gonna be some heavy burden upon them you know. 00:08:28.27\00:08:32.74 It's just, I don't know, they just felt absolute guilt. 00:08:32.74\00:08:36.18 - And guilt ruins everything. 00:08:37.08\00:08:38.78 - Guilt ruins everything, yeah. 00:08:38.78\00:08:41.45 Hi, I'm Jim Ayer. 00:08:41.45\00:08:42.48 My good friend Terry Cantrell and I 00:08:42.48\00:08:44.12 have traveled the world together 00:08:44.12\00:08:45.72 filming from Egypt to Zanzibar, from Costa Rica to Brazil, 00:08:45.72\00:08:49.12 India and beyond. 00:08:49.12\00:08:50.26 For years, we've captured stories 00:08:51.13\00:08:52.73 that uplift the God of heaven, 00:08:52.73\00:08:54.40 stories that touch and change lives. 00:08:54.40\00:08:56.83 Now on a new adventure and you're invited, 00:08:56.83\00:08:59.67 we started Talking Donkey International. 00:08:59.67\00:09:01.90 Talking Donkey as a media ministry dedicated 00:09:01.90\00:09:04.37 to sharing Jesus Christ in a unique and powerful way, 00:09:04.37\00:09:08.44 out of the ordinary, just like a talking donkey. 00:09:08.44\00:09:11.65 Like us, I'm guessing you're tired 00:09:11.65\00:09:13.68 of the same old cookie cutter programs 00:09:13.68\00:09:15.52 that line the Christian airwaves. 00:09:15.52\00:09:17.52 The gospel is exciting, it's time to jump out of the mold 00:09:17.52\00:09:21.49 and let the donkey talk. 00:09:21.49\00:09:22.79 When that happens, people will pay attention. 00:09:22.79\00:09:25.03 It's way out of the ordinary and we're inviting you 00:09:25.03\00:09:27.76 to become a part of this exciting 00:09:27.76\00:09:29.73 and innovative outreach to the world. 00:09:29.73\00:09:31.77 People are tired of watching the same old thing, 00:09:31.77\00:09:34.47 become a financial partner with us today and together, 00:09:34.47\00:09:37.51 we will change Christian TV for ever. 00:09:37.51\00:09:40.14 Give the donkey a voice. 00:09:40.14\00:09:42.01 (birds singing) 00:09:42.01\00:09:44.75 - Oh, what are you having that thing? 00:10:18.78\00:10:21.45 - I told you some food and water. 00:10:21.45\00:10:24.35 - Mine is totally light though. 00:10:26.52\00:10:28.12 - Well, you can check it if you want 00:10:29.19\00:10:30.43 but I know I only put in what I needed. 00:10:30.43\00:10:32.86 - You can have a seat, I will help you down. 00:10:34.10\00:10:36.80 - I can do it. 00:10:36.80\00:10:38.03 - Your own hips and your old knees. 00:10:38.03\00:10:40.30 - Oh, who's talking? 00:10:40.30\00:10:41.50 - Yeah, well, yeah, I am but I've just got to see 00:10:43.54\00:10:46.98 what's in this backpack but since it's yours, 00:10:46.98\00:10:48.88 I'm gonna let you deal with it. 00:10:48.88\00:10:51.11 - You can look through, 00:10:51.11\00:10:52.38 I'm just happy to be sitting for once. 00:10:52.38\00:10:54.12 - Just dig out, I wanna see what's in this bag. 00:10:54.12\00:10:57.02 - There. 00:10:57.02\00:10:58.29 - Rocks, seriously? 00:10:58.29\00:11:01.49 - I did not put these in, you did this. 00:11:02.56\00:11:04.39 - No, no, no, no, no. 00:11:04.39\00:11:05.73 - Why would I pack rocks? 00:11:05.73\00:11:08.06 - Wasn't me, you know. 00:11:08.06\00:11:09.90 - Some of them are so big. 00:11:09.90\00:11:11.27 - Really, it's kind of like, you do that I thought, 00:11:12.57\00:11:16.20 that's a perfect illustration of the way the devil is. 00:11:16.20\00:11:19.61 You know, the devil takes sin in our lives, 00:11:19.61\00:11:21.81 he drops that guilt in, just one rock at a time, 00:11:21.81\00:11:26.15 one piece at a time and we never think about it. 00:11:26.15\00:11:30.92 Because it usually is so small. 00:11:30.92\00:11:32.62 I mean, yeah, you got some big ones in there, 00:11:32.62\00:11:34.46 you got some big sins, don't you? 00:11:34.46\00:11:36.79 - We're not getting into that. 00:11:36.79\00:11:38.39 But you know, it reminds me back in the day 00:11:38.39\00:11:41.73 when I used to do a whole lot more camping and backpacking, 00:11:41.73\00:11:45.40 Steve and I had gone on a trip 00:11:45.40\00:11:47.64 with my brother and sister-in- law. 00:11:47.64\00:11:50.01 And we had Collin, our oldest, and he was maybe two, 00:11:50.01\00:11:54.98 he had to been less than three because Lauren 00:11:56.14\00:11:57.91 hadn't been born yet. 00:11:57.91\00:11:59.75 And Collin was adorable. 00:11:59.75\00:12:01.52 Oh, he was the most, you're talking this blond, 00:12:01.52\00:12:04.39 blue eyed Gerber baby toddler. 00:12:04.39\00:12:07.99 And I remember he had this little corduroy Oshkosh jacket, 00:12:07.99\00:12:12.89 and it had a hood on it. 00:12:12.89\00:12:14.46 Well, we're going down this trail 00:12:14.46\00:12:16.33 and the hood is of course hanging down his back. 00:12:16.33\00:12:19.13 My brother kept picking up little rocks 00:12:20.14\00:12:22.87 and slipping them into that hood. 00:12:22.87\00:12:26.17 Well, Collin, you know, as we go on, 00:12:26.17\00:12:28.88 he's not noticing it 'cause you don't notice a little rock. 00:12:28.88\00:12:32.71 One of those big ones, he would have noticed, 00:12:32.71\00:12:35.78 you know, would have knocked him backwards. 00:12:35.78\00:12:38.22 But by the end of that trail, 00:12:38.22\00:12:39.72 that poor kid is trying to stay upright 00:12:39.72\00:12:43.09 and practically staggering and I felt so guilty 00:12:43.09\00:12:46.46 because I was laughing, which was bad. 00:12:46.46\00:12:49.90 But it reminds me of so often, it's not some huge thing 00:12:49.90\00:12:54.87 that we've done that is just weighing on our minds, 00:12:56.30\00:12:58.91 it's a buildup, it's a little nagging sin that grows 00:12:58.91\00:13:03.75 and pretty soon you don't realize 00:13:04.95\00:13:07.15 how much weight you're carrying. 00:13:07.15\00:13:08.82 Just like, - That weight is called guilt. 00:13:08.82\00:13:10.55 - Yeah, Collin didn't realize how much weight 00:13:10.55\00:13:12.55 he was carrying because it came on very slowly. 00:13:12.55\00:13:15.79 It would be nice if you know, God just hit you upside 00:13:15.79\00:13:19.43 the head with a rock, you'd notice that. 00:13:19.43\00:13:21.63 Satan just weighs us down slowly 00:13:22.63\00:13:25.80 and we don't realize what's happening sometimes. 00:13:25.80\00:13:28.00 If you don't get rid of those little sins, 00:13:28.00\00:13:30.91 while they're still pebbles, 00:13:30.91\00:13:32.87 you end up with the boulder in your backpack 00:13:32.87\00:13:35.18 that's really holding you down. 00:13:35.18\00:13:37.75 - That's such a good example. 00:13:37.75\00:13:39.11 I think of my dad, my dad did not speak to his sister 00:13:39.11\00:13:43.62 for 20 years because she'd done something 00:13:43.62\00:13:46.62 and that was it, he just cut her off. 00:13:46.62\00:13:48.69 And I thought, how could you even do that, 00:13:49.72\00:13:51.06 you know, to a family member but boy, that's the way, 00:13:51.06\00:13:53.63 you know, you do my dad wrong and that was it. 00:13:53.63\00:13:57.03 My dad became a Christian, he accepted the Lord 00:13:58.43\00:14:01.17 later in life like 75 years old. 00:14:01.17\00:14:04.91 And every once in a while I'd mention something to him dad, 00:14:04.91\00:14:08.94 you should call your sister. 00:14:09.74\00:14:11.18 - Did he feel guilty about the fact he'd cut her off? 00:14:13.21\00:14:15.95 - He would never say a word. 00:14:15.95\00:14:17.62 One day my mom calls said, your dad called his sister 00:14:17.62\00:14:22.16 and it was so cool that I finally said dad, 00:14:24.06\00:14:27.86 I understand you called Aunt Margret. 00:14:27.86\00:14:31.70 Yeah, I did. 00:14:31.70\00:14:32.60 So how do you feel, dad? 00:14:32.60\00:14:33.67 He said, really good. 00:14:33.67\00:14:34.77 You know, that's what sin does, that's what the guilt does, 00:14:36.10\00:14:38.24 it weighs you down. 00:14:38.24\00:14:39.34 He'd had that with him for 20 years 00:14:39.34\00:14:41.61 and it changed his whole life. 00:14:41.61\00:14:43.31 - Carrying a boulder around 00:14:43.31\00:14:44.38 that he didn't need to be carrying. 00:14:44.38\00:14:46.25 - Yeah, exactly, a huge boulder. 00:14:46.25\00:14:48.35 - It changes us. 00:14:49.18\00:14:50.92 We might think we're punishing someone in fact, 00:14:50.92\00:14:53.15 but it's not, it's punishing us. 00:14:53.15\00:14:55.79 We talked about Adam and Eve in the garden 00:14:55.79\00:14:58.16 and what changed that one evening when God came to visit, 00:14:58.16\00:15:01.96 they had always looked forward to it, 00:15:01.96\00:15:03.57 this time they're hiding. 00:15:03.57\00:15:05.60 The change was in their own heads. 00:15:05.60\00:15:07.97 That's why guilt separates us from God 00:15:07.97\00:15:10.51 because now we're afraid, now we're running from Him. 00:15:10.51\00:15:13.71 We're trying to hide, we're trying to cover up. 00:15:13.71\00:15:16.64 And once you finally admit, here's what I did, 00:15:16.64\00:15:21.62 you know, then there's no more, 00:15:21.62\00:15:23.62 nothing between you and God anymore. 00:15:23.62\00:15:25.85 - That's right. 00:15:25.85\00:15:27.16 You know, I thought we were alone on this mountain 00:15:27.16\00:15:28.29 but there's hackers all over the place. 00:15:28.29\00:15:29.89 I've got to see what's in my pack. 00:15:29.89\00:15:31.79 - Oh, yeah, you're making fun of-- 00:15:31.79\00:15:33.63 - Well because certainly, you know-- 00:15:33.63\00:15:34.86 - Here's another one. 00:15:34.86\00:15:36.63 - Rocks all over the place. 00:15:36.63\00:15:38.53 Well, this was kind of, you know, 00:15:38.53\00:15:40.30 I thought you were the only one-- 00:15:40.30\00:15:41.24 - All right, 00:15:41.24\00:15:42.37 now the truth is out. - That guilt and sin. 00:15:42.37\00:15:43.84 Right, but man, oh, man, oh, man, this horrible. 00:15:43.84\00:15:48.91 But, you know, really, that's an example too 00:15:50.05\00:15:52.11 because every single one of us, 00:15:52.11\00:15:54.28 there isn't anybody that's immune from it, even Christians. 00:15:54.28\00:15:57.92 You know, as Christians, we can hang on to the tiniest thing 00:15:57.92\00:16:01.32 I mean, you could almost say that Adam and Eve 00:16:01.32\00:16:04.26 in the garden, you know, they were kind of Christians, 00:16:04.26\00:16:06.70 they knew Jesus, right? 00:16:06.70\00:16:08.53 - Obviously. - They spent time 00:16:08.53\00:16:09.90 communicating with Him in the garden but all of a sudden, 00:16:09.90\00:16:12.50 when the devil comes in and starts dropping 00:16:12.50\00:16:14.24 that guilt on them, they hid from God, 00:16:14.24\00:16:18.11 I can't even imagine that, you know, you hide from God 00:16:18.11\00:16:19.81 but that's what all that sin does. 00:16:19.81\00:16:22.24 - I just thought when I was a girl, 00:16:22.24\00:16:24.38 I shared a bedroom with my sister. 00:16:24.38\00:16:26.72 And I may have been the kind of sister 00:16:26.72\00:16:28.82 who occasionally got in her sister's closet, 00:16:28.82\00:16:31.99 you know, maybe that's just a girl thing 00:16:31.99\00:16:33.99 but Bonnie always had better clothes, 00:16:33.99\00:16:36.69 I got the hand me downs, right? 00:16:36.69\00:16:38.69 And there was one time where I was just trying something on 00:16:38.69\00:16:42.90 when she wasn't home and I snagged it. 00:16:42.90\00:16:47.47 Now, it was very small but of course, 00:16:47.47\00:16:50.11 my sister was the sort who someday was gonna notice it. 00:16:50.11\00:16:53.51 But I put it back. 00:16:53.51\00:16:55.34 Now, it might have been weeks before she went 00:16:55.34\00:16:58.41 to get that particular sweater out, 00:16:58.41\00:17:00.55 but I knew the snag was there 00:17:01.45\00:17:04.02 and it changed my attitude toward her. 00:17:04.02\00:17:07.29 Every time Bonnie was around, I was kind of on edge 00:17:07.29\00:17:09.59 like has she found it. 00:17:09.59\00:17:11.16 - She hadn't changed. - She was oblivious. 00:17:11.16\00:17:12.63 - She hadn't changed. - She had no idea 00:17:12.63\00:17:13.73 that there was a little snag on that sweater. 00:17:13.73\00:17:15.96 She maybe wouldn't have even noticed it later 00:17:15.96\00:17:18.60 or would have thought, oh my goodness, I snagged my sweater. 00:17:18.60\00:17:21.04 I might have been able to get away with it. 00:17:21.04\00:17:23.24 But it was eating away in me and changing my attitude 00:17:23.24\00:17:27.64 so that when she came in, there was that fear. 00:17:27.64\00:17:31.81 I understand how Adam and Eve felt 00:17:31.81\00:17:34.48 when they heard God's voice because it was the guilt. 00:17:34.48\00:17:38.39 There was nothing on her end. 00:17:38.39\00:17:39.95 If she walked in a room and said, hey, Janice, 00:17:39.95\00:17:42.29 I was just like, what, what, no what did I do? 00:17:42.29\00:17:44.89 You know, because I knew I had done something. 00:17:44.89\00:17:48.10 And she probably would have been shocked. 00:17:48.10\00:17:50.67 And you know, I don't honestly remember 00:17:50.67\00:17:52.27 if I ever confessed it or not, maybe that's why 00:17:52.27\00:17:55.44 the Lord just brought it to my head. 00:17:55.44\00:17:56.91 - And the devil uses a magnifying glass. 00:17:56.91\00:17:58.81 - Oh, yeah, some little thing grows and grows and grows. 00:17:58.81\00:18:02.48 Like, you can stick a little pebble in this backpack 00:18:02.48\00:18:05.31 and it wouldn't have bothered me. 00:18:05.31\00:18:07.18 But they grow because if you don't take care of sin 00:18:07.18\00:18:12.25 by handing it over to God, it just gets worse and worse. 00:18:13.59\00:18:15.69 - I got something my pack that actually somebody say, 00:18:15.69\00:18:18.53 well, that's heavy, but no, it actually lightens the load. 00:18:18.53\00:18:21.90 It lightens the load, you know, Word of God. 00:18:23.03\00:18:25.43 God can come in and take all that garbage in your life, 00:18:25.43\00:18:28.70 take all that guilt and get rid of it. 00:18:28.70\00:18:31.17 That's what Jesus does. - And oh, 00:18:32.07\00:18:33.07 don't you feel lighter like your dad. 00:18:33.07\00:18:35.11 Once he had made that phone call 00:18:35.11\00:18:37.85 which probably loomed so large in his own head. 00:18:37.85\00:18:41.85 He might have been worried she's gonna hate me now. 00:18:41.85\00:18:44.85 - Yeah. 00:18:44.85\00:18:45.65 - I'm sure Adam and Eve thought 00:18:45.65\00:18:46.99 God hated them at that point, that He was the one 00:18:46.99\00:18:50.29 who didn't wanna talk to them, didn't wanna to see them. 00:18:50.29\00:18:53.26 I've had people who've said, oh, 00:18:53.26\00:18:56.03 you don't know what I've done, I've done too much, 00:18:56.03\00:18:57.63 I can't even talk to God. 00:18:57.63\00:18:59.77 God, you know, wouldn't want anything to do with me. 00:18:59.77\00:19:03.10 And the opposite is true, He's just waiting for you 00:19:03.10\00:19:07.44 to turn around and say, can you help me with this? 00:19:07.44\00:19:11.61 - Yeah. 00:19:12.51\00:19:13.42 - Jeremiah 17:9, tells us that our hearts 00:19:14.48\00:19:18.55 are hopelessly deceitful and sick. 00:19:18.55\00:19:21.66 We're all in desperate need of a heart transplant. 00:19:21.66\00:19:25.53 The good news is that a new heart is available, 00:19:25.53\00:19:28.70 free of charge with no waiting list. 00:19:28.70\00:19:31.50 You can have it here and now simply for the asking. 00:19:31.50\00:19:35.17 This little pamphlet, "A Gift for You," 00:19:35.17\00:19:38.34 is our free gift to you about God's free gift to all of us, 00:19:38.34\00:19:43.41 the gift of a new heart. 00:19:44.08\00:19:45.85 Go to talkingdonkeyinternational.org 00:19:45.85\00:19:48.72 and request Offer Number 125, "A Gift for You." 00:19:48.72\00:19:53.25 - Unfortunately unlike the garden of Eden, 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.13 in our gardens today, we got weeds, big weeds. 00:19:58.13\00:20:01.43 I mean, this is one of the small weeds, 00:20:01.43\00:20:03.60 I've got some in here that I can't even pull out 00:20:03.60\00:20:05.77 because they'll actually pull the plant out with it. 00:20:05.77\00:20:07.84 - The roots have gotten too deep. 00:20:07.84\00:20:09.14 - Roots have gotten too big, too deep, yeah. 00:20:09.14\00:20:11.54 But God gave us those weeds, right? 00:20:11.54\00:20:15.04 - Well, you know, I hadn't thought about it 00:20:15.04\00:20:17.88 until you were mentioning that. 00:20:17.88\00:20:19.68 But God actually had a blessing in that, 00:20:19.68\00:20:23.92 they had to work harder. 00:20:23.92\00:20:25.42 And I know people think of that as a curse 00:20:25.42\00:20:27.86 and if you're out here in the hot sun and you're sweating 00:20:27.86\00:20:30.93 and you have weeds that are weeding that day, 00:20:30.93\00:20:33.96 it does feel like a curse. 00:20:33.96\00:20:35.83 But having to work a little harder, 00:20:35.83\00:20:38.13 it's actually good for us in a lot of ways. 00:20:39.40\00:20:41.34 It kept them out of more trouble. 00:20:41.34\00:20:43.51 - You remember what the saying is today? 00:20:43.51\00:20:45.51 Idleness is the devil's workshop. 00:20:45.51\00:20:47.74 - Oh, yeah, the same grandmother I did. 00:20:47.74\00:20:49.54 (both laughing) 00:20:49.54\00:20:51.18 She loved saying that. 00:20:51.18\00:20:52.81 Anytime she caught me on the couch with a book, 00:20:52.81\00:20:55.32 which was fairly often, she would find something 00:20:55.32\00:20:57.69 for me to do. 00:20:57.69\00:20:58.95 - But the devil knows it's true, don't he? 00:20:58.95\00:21:01.12 - In fact, if you want more evidence about idleness 00:21:01.12\00:21:05.03 is not what God intended for us 00:21:05.03\00:21:06.86 and that it leads to bad things, 00:21:06.86\00:21:10.63 the moment the lockdown hit-- 00:21:10.63\00:21:12.80 - For the pandemic. 00:21:12.80\00:21:14.04 - Right. - Yeah. 00:21:14.04\00:21:15.14 - And all of a sudden you had more people idle 00:21:15.14\00:21:18.67 than ever before, and what's been the result? 00:21:18.67\00:21:22.58 If you look at, as it progressed, rise in suicide 00:21:24.08\00:21:28.48 rates because it's messing with people's emotions, 00:21:29.55\00:21:32.52 rise in domestic violence. 00:21:32.52\00:21:34.92 There were women mostly but people who are now trapped 00:21:34.92\00:21:39.69 with an abusive spouse, 00:21:39.69\00:21:43.03 children who are trapped with an abuser, no place to turn. 00:21:43.03\00:21:46.43 - In matter of fact, I heard a stat that there are 25% less 00:21:46.43\00:21:50.81 reports of abuse of children. 00:21:50.81\00:21:52.84 Why is that? 00:21:52.84\00:21:54.11 They're not going to school and schools 00:21:54.11\00:21:55.31 are normally the place that reports it. 00:21:55.31\00:21:56.91 So much more is going unnoticed. 00:21:56.91\00:21:59.38 - Because nobody's, you know, nobody's around to see. 00:21:59.38\00:22:02.55 And more anger, alcohol, oh, the rise in alcoholism 00:22:02.55\00:22:07.29 and drug abuse has just skyrocketed as well. 00:22:07.29\00:22:10.89 Because people can't deal with that kind of thing, 00:22:10.89\00:22:13.56 with enforced idleness. 00:22:13.56\00:22:15.70 It happens to people who lose their jobs, 00:22:15.70\00:22:18.10 even if it's not their fault, you know, 00:22:18.10\00:22:19.50 their company down sized, it just completely throws you. 00:22:19.50\00:22:22.87 - I just was thinking, here's the big thing, the devil says, 00:22:22.87\00:22:25.21 you're not worthwhile, you're worth nothing. 00:22:25.21\00:22:27.84 You know, you're sitting there, you're idle, 00:22:27.84\00:22:29.24 you don't have your job, you don't have whatever he says, 00:22:29.24\00:22:31.71 you're not worth anything. 00:22:31.71\00:22:33.11 You may as well just go ahead and end it, 00:22:33.11\00:22:34.55 you may as well bury your sorrows. 00:22:34.55\00:22:36.75 - And we reap the results. 00:22:36.75\00:22:38.65 But all of that leads to even more guilt 00:22:38.65\00:22:41.62 because then you hate yourself even more. 00:22:41.62\00:22:44.66 And getting rid of guilt, facing it, turning it over to God, 00:22:44.66\00:22:49.70 well, let me read you something 00:22:50.63\00:22:51.97 if you wanna know. - That's a big key. 00:22:51.97\00:22:53.27 That's a big key, turn it over to God. 00:22:53.27\00:22:55.80 - A lot of people don't even like admitting guilt. 00:22:55.80\00:22:58.74 You probably never read an interview with a celebrity 00:23:00.21\00:23:04.28 but I've heard people say, well, yeah, you know, 00:23:04.28\00:23:08.88 I was in and out of rehab and I have 14, you know, 00:23:08.88\00:23:12.12 broken relationships behind me. 00:23:12.12\00:23:13.69 But you know, I don't regret any of it 00:23:13.69\00:23:15.72 'because it made me who I am, it made me stronger. 00:23:15.72\00:23:18.43 I think he might as well say I do it all again 00:23:18.43\00:23:20.80 and I don't care who I hurt because I like where it got me. 00:23:20.80\00:23:24.60 - You leave a trail of sorrow behind you. 00:23:24.60\00:23:26.00 - It's still not dealing with that guilt the way David did. 00:23:26.00\00:23:30.44 And when he had, here he wrote, 00:23:30.44\00:23:34.28 "How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, 00:23:34.28\00:23:37.91 "whose sin is covered. 00:23:37.91\00:23:39.75 "How blessed is the man to whom the Lord 00:23:39.75\00:23:41.92 "does not impute in iniquity, and in whose spirit 00:23:41.92\00:23:45.59 "there is no deceit. 00:23:45.59\00:23:47.42 "When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away 00:23:47.42\00:23:52.19 "through my groaning all day long. 00:23:52.19\00:23:55.43 "For day and night, your hand was heavy upon me. 00:23:55.43\00:23:59.20 "My vitality was drained away as the fever heat of summer." 00:23:59.20\00:24:03.10 But when he acknowledged his sin, 00:24:04.07\00:24:07.68 and he didn't hide his iniquity, he says, 00:24:07.68\00:24:10.38 "I will confess my transgression to the Lord." 00:24:10.38\00:24:13.68 - You can just feel-- - That heaviness. 00:24:13.68\00:24:15.22 - Flourishing through this as he confesses the murderer, 00:24:15.22\00:24:19.55 the adulterer, the one who killed maybe even a friend, 00:24:19.55\00:24:23.53 all of these things, you can just feel how 00:24:23.53\00:24:25.56 it's all lifting off of him. 00:24:25.56\00:24:26.93 - In spite of the fact he still had consequences, 00:24:26.93\00:24:29.23 he didn't feel that weight. 00:24:30.03\00:24:32.27 He felt better, he was free. 00:24:32.27\00:24:34.97 - Yeah, amen. 00:24:34.97\00:24:36.91 - You know, we can't take any kind of comfort and think, 00:24:40.81\00:24:44.08 well, compared to David, you know, 00:24:44.08\00:24:45.85 I've never murdered anyone, I haven't lied to that extent, 00:24:45.85\00:24:50.39 I haven't committed adultery, but we all are guilty 00:24:50.39\00:24:55.02 because even the little tiniest sin, it harbors, you know, 00:24:55.02\00:25:00.16 it finds a place in your heart, in your psyche, 00:25:01.23\00:25:03.50 it starts separating you from people that you love 00:25:03.50\00:25:06.97 because you're hiding that 00:25:06.97\00:25:09.20 and it starts getting heavier and heavier. 00:25:09.20\00:25:11.97 And God wants to be able to take that away 00:25:11.97\00:25:14.41 just like he took David's guilt away. 00:25:14.41\00:25:16.68 - You know, I have got good news for you. 00:25:16.68\00:25:17.78 And you already know this news, Romans 5:8, 00:25:17.78\00:25:21.68 "But God demonstrated His own love toward us, 00:25:21.68\00:25:24.49 "in that while we were yet sinners, He died for us." 00:25:24.49\00:25:28.92 He died for us. 00:25:28.92\00:25:30.29 - He didn't wait until we had cleaned up our guilt 00:25:30.29\00:25:31.69 and confessed everything and fixed everything ourselves. 00:25:31.69\00:25:35.63 - Yeah, He didn't wait for King David 00:25:35.63\00:25:39.17 to get the act together and then come to him 00:25:39.17\00:25:41.27 and said, you're forgiven. 00:25:41.27\00:25:42.97 He came to him first that hey, you got to clean up 00:25:42.97\00:25:45.37 your act here, I'll help you do it. 00:25:45.37\00:25:47.94 - And he did. - Yeah, here's another one. 00:25:47.94\00:25:49.91 Psalms 103:12, "As far as the east is from the west, 00:25:49.91\00:25:54.98 "so far has He removed our transgressions from us." 00:25:56.35\00:25:59.75 That's where David, when you read that text in Psalms, 00:25:59.75\00:26:02.52 that's where David could get that feeling of, oh, 00:26:02.52\00:26:05.46 it feels so good. - The weight off of him. 00:26:05.46\00:26:07.20 - Yeah. 00:26:07.20\00:26:08.53 When Janine and I, when we gave our lives to God, 00:26:08.53\00:26:11.37 I can remember flushing stuff down the toilet, 00:26:11.37\00:26:14.77 I thought, you know, flushing the drugs down the toilet. 00:26:14.77\00:26:17.57 And it was like this huge weight was lifted off of me, 00:26:17.57\00:26:19.94 a weight that I wasn't even aware I had. 00:26:19.94\00:26:22.51 - Until you got rid of it. 00:26:22.51\00:26:23.85 - Until I got rid of it, util God got rid of it really. 00:26:23.85\00:26:26.88 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, 00:26:28.98\00:26:32.39 "He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins 00:26:32.39\00:26:36.39 "and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.89 Now, you know I've experienced that, 00:26:39.89\00:26:41.96 you've experienced that, what I wonder folks, 00:26:41.96\00:26:46.00 have you experienced it? 00:26:46.00\00:26:47.60 Have you experience that change that comes into your life 00:26:47.60\00:26:50.61 when you allow God to cleanse you 00:26:50.61\00:26:52.37 and wash you with his blood, to take care of the guilt 00:26:52.37\00:26:55.78 and the sin that plagues you because as Janice just said, 00:26:55.78\00:27:00.25 sin is in every one of us, the guilt is in every one of us. 00:27:00.25\00:27:04.32 But when we accept God, when we allow Him to change us, 00:27:04.32\00:27:08.69 well, you talk about a change. 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.76 Right, they're serious changes. 00:27:11.76\00:27:13.43 - Oh, yes, you're not the same. 00:27:13.43\00:27:15.36 Once you unload that backpack full of rocks 00:27:15.36\00:27:18.77 that you've been carrying around, 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.50 you're free to do other things. 00:27:21.60\00:27:23.20 - Good analogy, perfect analogy, folks. 00:27:23.20\00:27:25.71 Take the backpack off. 00:27:25.71\00:27:27.81 Experience God and what He'll do in your life. 00:27:27.81\00:27:30.41 Believe me, it is life changing, it's exciting 00:27:30.41\00:27:33.65 and like King David, you can begin rejoicing 00:27:33.65\00:27:36.85 for what God is doing in your life. 00:27:36.85\00:27:38.69 Try it, I mean, we're in terrible times, horrible times, 00:27:38.69\00:27:41.42 they might get worse. 00:27:41.42\00:27:42.62 They probably will according to Scripture, 00:27:42.62\00:27:45.26 but God will be with you, He'll take care of you. 00:27:45.26\00:27:47.60 Whatever is going on in your life. 00:27:47.60\00:27:50.10 Give Him a try it today. 00:27:50.10\00:27:52.07 (gentle music) 00:27:52.07\00:27:54.74 Hey, thanks for joining us for "Country Wisdom." 00:27:56.10\00:27:58.77 - See you next time. 00:27:58.77\00:27:59.87 (gentle music) 00:28:00.71\00:28:03.35
