So come on, join us. 00:00:45.04\00:00:48.28 (upbeat music) 00:00:51.85\00:00:54.38 Ain't this a gorgeous day for a ride? 00:01:00.49\00:01:02.72 - And Lily keeps trying to smash my leg. 00:01:02.72\00:01:05.43 Oh, she likes you. She just wants to say hi. 00:01:05.43\00:01:09.40 - I was thinking maybe she didn't like me. 00:01:11.00\00:01:13.00 - Nah, she likes you. - She's like, 00:01:13.00\00:01:14.04 "Why are you coming along today?" 00:01:14.04\00:01:15.14 - (indistinct) huh, baby. Yeah. 00:01:15.14\00:01:17.47 Know what I mean, it's so beautiful out. 00:01:17.47\00:01:19.41 - Oh, I am thrilled to be out here, I love it. 00:01:19.41\00:01:22.04 You couldn't ask for a better day. 00:01:22.04\00:01:24.31 Hey, you grew up in California, right? 00:01:24.31\00:01:27.22 - [Jim] I did. - So did I. 00:01:27.22\00:01:29.28 So how old were you when you had your first earthquake? 00:01:29.28\00:01:33.92 - Well, I'm not gonna tell you exactly how old, 00:01:35.26\00:01:36.99 but I was older than 50 'cause I was in 00:01:36.99\00:01:39.26 Maryland actually when I felt my first one 00:01:39.26\00:01:41.06 in a big high-rise building. 00:01:41.06\00:01:42.83 - You grew up in California and didn't have an earthquake 00:01:42.83\00:01:45.63 till you went to the East Coast? 00:01:45.63\00:01:47.14 - That's right, that's right. I lived in the far north. 00:01:47.14\00:01:49.97 No earthquakes, just a big volcano. 00:01:49.97\00:01:51.87 - I think I was in third grade, first one I remember. 00:01:53.31\00:01:57.28 And I remember it because I was in school 00:01:57.28\00:02:00.18 and I turned around because I thought the boy 00:02:00.18\00:02:04.42 in back of me that I wasn't very fond of anyway, 00:02:04.42\00:02:07.29 I thought he was sticking his- 00:02:09.09\00:02:11.86 - [Jim] Yellowjacket. - Sorry. Sorry, Jetta. 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.76 - Janice, look, he won't eat too much. 00:02:20.14\00:02:22.10 - Why does he like me? Go over to Jim. 00:02:23.20\00:02:25.07 That boy used to bug me the way that yellowjacket was. 00:02:27.68\00:02:31.35 So when I felt my desk starting to move, 00:02:31.35\00:02:36.42 because I did, I was studying and all of a sudden, 00:02:38.59\00:02:42.52 I realized you had this sensation, 00:02:42.52\00:02:44.43 where I was moving and, thank you. 00:02:44.43\00:02:48.66 - Relax, don't swat him too hard, 00:02:48.66\00:02:49.93 just move moving him away a little. 00:02:49.93\00:02:51.90 Keep talking, it'll be fine. 00:02:51.90\00:02:53.27 - And I turned around to tell him 00:02:55.60\00:02:57.04 to quit shoving my desk with his feet. 00:02:57.04\00:02:59.81 And then I realized, no! 00:02:59.81\00:03:01.91 All the kids had suddenly looked up 00:03:01.91\00:03:04.61 because all the desks were moving. 00:03:04.61\00:03:07.72 And that was the first earthquake I can actually 00:03:07.72\00:03:10.59 remember and realizing what that was. - Really? 00:03:10.59\00:03:12.89 - But you know, there were many others after 00:03:12.89\00:03:15.59 that to varying degrees. (gentle guitar music) 00:03:15.59\00:03:20.46 Because I grew up in California. 00:03:20.46\00:03:22.70 I assumed you had the same stories. 00:03:22.70\00:03:24.73 - No, I never had to worry about what kind 00:03:25.83\00:03:27.20 of foundation my house was on, but I think about that. 00:03:27.20\00:03:31.04 You talk about earthquakes and foundations 00:03:31.04\00:03:34.38 and Janine and I, many years ago, 00:03:34.38\00:03:37.51 we're in Italy and we find a really interesting place. 00:03:37.51\00:03:42.58 Tower of Pisa, right? 00:03:43.25\00:03:44.32 - [Janice] Leaning tower of Pisa. 00:03:44.32\00:03:45.42 - [Jim] Leaning, it wasn't always leaning. 00:03:45.42\00:03:47.12 They started construction I think in 1173. 00:03:47.12\00:03:50.59 - [Janice] Did you see it back before it started to lean? 00:03:50.59\00:03:53.53 - Oh, you are so dirty. No. 00:03:54.40\00:03:57.83 I don't even know that I wanna ride with you anymore. 00:03:57.83\00:04:00.34 Well, then five years later, it began, 00:04:01.37\00:04:04.21 it was leaning before they finished construction. 00:04:04.21\00:04:06.81 Before they finished construction... 00:04:07.88\00:04:08.84 Oh, there's some grass, look. 00:04:08.84\00:04:10.21 You'll love the grass, go ahead. 00:04:10.21\00:04:11.85 - Oh, didn't you give Lily enough breakfast this morning? 00:04:11.85\00:04:13.82 - Lily, there's some grass. Now you don't wanna eat grass? 00:04:13.82\00:04:16.12 You don't wanna eat grass now, okay. 00:04:16.12\00:04:17.99 But anyway, here they are before it's finished, 00:04:19.32\00:04:22.86 it's leaning, and since then, I think in 1990, 00:04:22.86\00:04:27.93 they closed it to tourists no longer. 00:04:29.00\00:04:30.57 So, that tells you we were there before 1990. 00:04:30.57\00:04:33.27 There you go, now you found a spot. 00:04:34.40\00:04:35.94 - As far as I know though, it's still leaning. 00:04:37.24\00:04:39.64 - Oh, yeah, it is. They brought in a big engineer 00:04:39.64\00:04:42.21 who actually apparently didn't know his job. 00:04:42.21\00:04:44.75 They spent a whole bunch of money, 00:04:44.75\00:04:47.35 and I think $30 million U.S. 00:04:47.35\00:04:50.12 And they kind of corrected it a little bit, 00:04:50.12\00:04:53.52 but, it just goes to show you, 00:04:53.52\00:04:56.83 you've gotta have a good foundation. 00:04:56.83\00:04:59.66 - My husband, Steve, is really interested 00:04:59.66\00:05:03.20 in issues of creation science versus evolution. 00:05:03.20\00:05:07.67 He is a scientist, he's a surgeon 00:05:07.67\00:05:10.51 and was a Chemistry major and it fascinates him. 00:05:10.51\00:05:13.84 And he's got a whole library 00:05:13.84\00:05:16.14 of books on different topics like that. 00:05:16.14\00:05:20.22 And he is always, in fact, he gave a great sermon 00:05:20.22\00:05:25.29 on Christians who think they can combine the two, 00:05:26.65\00:05:31.29 who think they can have it both ways. 00:05:32.43\00:05:34.73 But he says, if you have based your faith, 00:05:34.73\00:05:38.87 if your foundation is on evolution, 00:05:40.37\00:05:43.30 whether you're thinking pure Darwinian evolution 00:05:43.30\00:05:46.51 or whether you're thinking what people call 00:05:46.51\00:05:48.71 Theistic evolution, you want to have God involved. 00:05:48.71\00:05:51.95 So He started it, but He started it in this method, 00:05:51.95\00:05:55.45 as evolution as his tool. 00:05:55.45\00:05:57.85 But Steve said... Come on, Jetta. 00:05:57.85\00:06:01.26 Steve said, "You have to consider, with that foundation. 00:06:02.79\00:06:06.70 Then you have a completely random, directionless nature 00:06:08.03\00:06:12.60 that is supposedly natural selection, but completely 00:06:16.40\00:06:21.48 random. So it's an accident that we turned into humans 00:06:22.58\00:06:27.58 and there's no real purpose to our life. 00:06:28.72\00:06:31.55 It's a freak of nature. It's completely accidental." 00:06:31.55\00:06:35.49 - [Jim] No, you don't get to choose where you're going. 00:06:35.49\00:06:37.16 - And if that is true, where did morals come from? 00:06:37.16\00:06:42.20 - Exactly. (gentle acoustic music) 00:06:44.03\00:06:45.10 - There are people today who think that, 00:06:45.10\00:06:46.67 well, society creates morals. So basically, 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.60 it's whatever society today has decided is right or wrong. 00:06:49.60\00:06:54.24 And as you know, that changes. 00:06:54.24\00:06:56.61 It doesn't even take a generation to have that change. 00:06:56.61\00:06:59.78 Things that when I was a young mother that were, 00:06:59.78\00:07:04.49 "This is what good mothers, 00:07:04.49\00:07:05.99 how a good mother raises their children." 00:07:05.99\00:07:07.86 And nowadays it's like, "Oh, you do that 00:07:07.86\00:07:10.43 and CPS will be on your door." 00:07:10.43\00:07:13.16 - If it wasn't for the creation story, 00:07:13.16\00:07:17.70 why would anybody not want to kill? 00:07:18.83\00:07:20.74 If I like what you guys possess, 00:07:20.74\00:07:22.80 just go in and kill you and take it. 00:07:22.80\00:07:24.71 - Because if it is purely Darwinian evolution, 00:07:24.71\00:07:28.08 then whatever I can do 00:07:28.08\00:07:30.31 to further my chances of success is fine. 00:07:30.31\00:07:34.45 I'm doing what nature designed me to do. 00:07:34.45\00:07:38.49 - And nobody has any argument against that. 00:07:38.49\00:07:41.36 - No. - There is no real argument. 00:07:41.36\00:07:42.72 Either it's- - Any more than a nature. 00:07:42.72\00:07:45.73 We have coyotes around here all the time. 00:07:45.73\00:07:48.13 And I know, I have friends who have chickens 00:07:48.13\00:07:51.37 and one day you don't have as many chickens 00:07:51.37\00:07:53.97 as you had the day before or sheep. 00:07:53.97\00:07:56.91 We were just talking with your friend, Randy. 00:07:56.91\00:07:59.37 And he started with 30 sheep and is down to four 00:07:59.37\00:08:04.45 and is thrilled that one of those had twins. 00:08:05.51\00:08:07.65 It's just like right now, 00:08:07.65\00:08:09.12 we can either go this way in the road 00:08:09.12\00:08:11.75 or this way in the road. We've only got two choices. 00:08:11.75\00:08:14.39 And that's really what it is for everything that's going on. 00:08:14.39\00:08:18.83 We either believe in creation 00:08:18.83\00:08:20.50 or we believe in something else. 00:08:20.50\00:08:22.60 - My opinion and I think it's based on good evidence 00:08:23.93\00:08:28.00 as well as faith in God is that 00:08:28.00\00:08:30.77 God, as a foundation never moves. 00:08:31.77\00:08:34.54 You are never going to suddenly find yourself, 00:08:34.54\00:08:37.11 like I did sitting in that desk in third grade, 00:08:37.11\00:08:39.71 where the ground underneath me is literally moving. 00:08:39.71\00:08:42.35 But if your foundation is based 00:08:43.25\00:08:45.45 on whatever the society you are living 00:08:45.45\00:08:48.12 in today says is good or bad, 00:08:48.12\00:08:51.79 that's gonna change tomorrow. Your foundation just moved. 00:08:51.79\00:08:55.80 And that's not a very secure feeling. 00:08:55.80\00:08:58.00 - Yeah, as for me and my house, 00:08:58.00\00:08:59.90 like I said, "I'm gonna choose the Lord. 00:08:59.90\00:09:02.04 I'm gonna choose his direction and his foundation." 00:09:02.04\00:09:04.51 - I think Lily's choosing our direction. 00:09:04.51\00:09:07.04 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:09:07.04\00:09:11.28 - I'd like to offer you this free book called 00:09:23.86\00:09:26.46 "The Great Controversy." As you read it, 00:09:26.46\00:09:29.16 you will become like Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" 00:09:29.16\00:09:32.17 You will see what and who is standing behind the curtain, 00:09:32.17\00:09:36.30 manipulating the events of this world. 00:09:36.30\00:09:38.94 You will also discover that there is hope 00:09:38.94\00:09:42.04 and peace, during these troubled times. 00:09:42.04\00:09:45.65 Remember, the book is completely free. So don't wait. 00:09:45.65\00:09:49.75 The offer is only good while supplies last. 00:09:49.75\00:09:53.09 To obtain your copy, simply log on to 00:09:53.09\00:09:56.42 talkingdonkeyinternational.org and order your copy now. 00:09:56.42\00:10:01.46 - While we're on the horses, I get a cool idea 00:10:04.43\00:10:07.57 for a visual of really what it's about 00:10:07.57\00:10:09.70 for the walk of your Christian life. 00:10:09.70\00:10:12.27 - All right. - Include some equipment. 00:10:12.27\00:10:14.51 Do you mind carrying a bag? 00:10:14.51\00:10:16.01 - It depends on how much it weighs. 00:10:16.01\00:10:17.81 - 40 pounds under. Gotta bring my Bible too. 00:10:18.88\00:10:22.02 - My backpacking days are in the rear view mirror. 00:10:22.02\00:10:25.39 - Just kidding. It aint that heavy. 00:10:25.39\00:10:28.32 Mine or if you'd like to take one of the heavy ones? 00:10:28.32\00:10:31.29 - No, I am definitely taking the low road here. 00:10:31.29\00:10:34.93 Hang on, the backpack isn't cooperating. 00:10:39.70\00:10:42.60 (gentle acoustic music) 00:10:42.60\00:10:45.91 - You got it okay? - Twisted. That's typical. 00:10:49.14\00:10:53.28 All right, were good. - All right. 00:10:53.28\00:10:54.72 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:10:54.72\00:10:58.85 Okay. So, the first thing of course, 00:11:14.14\00:11:16.37 you gotta get the Bible. 00:11:16.37\00:11:17.64 Can't do anything without the Bible. Right? 00:11:17.64\00:11:20.54 And then, after I get this out. 00:11:20.54\00:11:23.21 - Oh, I like the color. (gentle acoustic music) 00:11:27.52\00:11:29.98 - You do, huh? - Yes. 00:11:29.98\00:11:31.25 - Let's see here. 00:11:34.09\00:11:35.29 There are so many parts and so many things in climbing. 00:11:40.70\00:11:44.50 - I don't do red, but I like the other colors. 00:11:47.77\00:11:50.04 Oh, Jim, Jim. Look! 00:11:51.31\00:11:53.04 - Oh, look at that tiny cool little lizard. 00:11:54.78\00:11:57.08 - He wants to join you. 00:11:57.08\00:11:58.18 - Oh, okay. Yeah. Next some more ropes we can worry 00:12:03.42\00:12:07.06 about that later. But I thought, when we're on horseback, 00:12:07.06\00:12:11.53 I was thinking about some of this, like I said, at the truck 00:12:11.53\00:12:13.83 and it just seemed like there's so many similarities in life 00:12:13.83\00:12:18.37 about rock climbing, and preparation 00:12:18.37\00:12:21.04 and the equipment and everything else. 00:12:21.04\00:12:24.01 What I wanted to read to you, 00:12:24.01\00:12:25.11 something in my Bible is Matthew 7:24-27 says, 00:12:25.11\00:12:30.08 "Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine 00:12:31.41\00:12:34.52 and does them." So God's looking 00:12:34.52\00:12:37.49 for an active situation in the Christian life. 00:12:37.49\00:12:40.69 I mean, we can talk about the things we talked 00:12:40.69\00:12:43.76 about in horseback. And as you know, 00:12:43.76\00:12:46.13 we can talk about foundations and everything else, 00:12:46.13\00:12:48.60 but this is where the rubber meets the road. 00:12:48.60\00:12:51.30 When you're really climbing life. 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.84 When you're really in there in the trenches, 00:12:55.10\00:12:57.94 how do you do this? - I have no idea. 00:12:57.94\00:13:01.51 - But you've made a lot of experience in life, 00:13:01.51\00:13:03.28 and you can translate those into. 00:13:03.28\00:13:05.65 - Well, that's why I was talking to you 00:13:05.65\00:13:07.08 about our lives are like a building 00:13:07.08\00:13:10.62 and you need to know what your foundation is. 00:13:10.62\00:13:14.12 And I have chosen one that doesn't move 00:13:14.12\00:13:17.13 because if I built my life on me as a foundation, 00:13:17.13\00:13:22.16 it'd be all over the place. 00:13:23.43\00:13:25.80 So I've made a conscious decision, Christ is my 00:13:25.80\00:13:30.24 foundation. That book is my foundation. 00:13:30.24\00:13:33.07 And if I find myself deviating, it hasn't moved. 00:13:33.07\00:13:38.15 I'm the one who's moved and that's what you have 00:13:39.28\00:13:41.52 to judge your whole life by. 00:13:41.52\00:13:43.12 Have I moved off the foundation? 00:13:43.12\00:13:45.35 Because the foundation, if it's Christ, it's staying put. 00:13:45.35\00:13:49.82 - I really liked that point you made 00:13:49.82\00:13:51.39 because all of a sudden, I flashed on, 00:13:51.39\00:13:53.73 there are guidebooks to take you in certain routes. 00:13:53.73\00:13:57.23 It shows you how long the route is, 00:13:57.23\00:13:59.30 where to set protection a lot of times and so- 00:13:59.30\00:14:01.24 - Guidebooks to climbing? - Guidebooks to climbing. 00:14:01.24\00:14:04.04 So, I've been climbing in some monstrous climbs 00:14:04.04\00:14:07.21 and you can kinda read the guidebook to find the routes 00:14:07.21\00:14:10.95 and everything, where to set things to keep you safe. 00:14:10.95\00:14:13.82 And I thought, well, here's the eternal guide book. 00:14:13.82\00:14:17.49 It shows the whole route, shows you exactly what to follow, 00:14:17.49\00:14:20.79 how to follow it and people that don't have the guidebook? 00:14:20.79\00:14:24.59 - Get lost. - And could die. 00:14:24.59\00:14:27.23 And bottom line you do. I missed following a route one time 00:14:27.23\00:14:32.30 and I was going up the rock and going up the rock. 00:14:33.60\00:14:34.97 And this is called protection. 00:14:34.97\00:14:36.94 This stuff is called protection. 00:14:36.94\00:14:38.61 There was no place to set it and I was going at 20, 30, 00:14:39.97\00:14:42.54 40, 50 feet, 60 feet. That's getting really dangerous 00:14:42.54\00:14:46.78 and I'm getting really nervous. 00:14:46.78\00:14:48.42 - Without- - Without setting anything. 00:14:48.42\00:14:50.25 It's just, if I fall, I'd go to the bottom. 00:14:50.25\00:14:52.75 And boy, I mean, it gets very scary. 00:14:52.75\00:14:55.82 - My adrenaline just went up, just how you talk about it. 00:14:55.82\00:14:59.33 - This is the guidebook. And so, 00:14:59.33\00:15:01.13 let me share more about it in the guide book. 00:15:01.13\00:15:03.13 Jesus is saying, "Build your house on the rock. 00:15:03.13\00:15:06.40 So, and the rain came and the floods came, 00:15:06.40\00:15:08.24 the wind blew and beat on that house. 00:15:08.24\00:15:10.51 And it did not fall, for it was founded on a rock." 00:15:10.51\00:15:14.61 And that rock, of course we know is who? 00:15:14.61\00:15:17.35 - Oh, Jesus. I was just amazed. 00:15:17.35\00:15:19.61 I kept waiting for you to break into song. 00:15:19.61\00:15:21.78 That was one of my kids' favorite songs. 00:15:23.05\00:15:25.19 They love to singing that because it had hand motions. 00:15:25.19\00:15:29.09 The wise man built his house upon a rock 00:15:29.09\00:15:31.13 and then they talked about the rain came down 00:15:31.13\00:15:32.66 and the floods came up, but the house stood firm. 00:15:32.66\00:15:36.20 It was actually the second verse that- 00:15:37.30\00:15:38.47 - I wasn't raised a Christian. 00:15:38.47\00:15:39.83 So I didn't get to go to all those little classes. 00:15:39.83\00:15:41.94 ¤ The wise man builds his house upon the rock ¤ 00:15:43.27\00:15:46.41 - And they're going like this. 00:15:46.41\00:15:48.18 ¤ The wise man built his house upon the rock ¤ 00:15:48.18\00:15:51.91 ¤ The wise man built his house upon the rock ¤ 00:15:51.91\00:15:55.28 ¤ And the rains came tumbling down. ¤ 00:15:55.28\00:15:57.55 - Oh, I can see the kids doing that for sure. 00:15:57.55\00:15:59.95 - Right. But his house stands firm 00:15:59.95\00:16:02.42 because it's built on a rock. 00:16:02.42\00:16:03.76 But the second verse was their favorite. 00:16:03.76\00:16:07.23 - Well, we don't have time for second verse today. 00:16:07.23\00:16:09.63 "And everyone who hears these sayings of mine," 00:16:09.63\00:16:12.13 the sayings of Jesus, "And does not do them, 00:16:12.13\00:16:15.57 shall be compared to a foolish man 00:16:15.57\00:16:18.34 who built his house on the sand. 00:16:18.34\00:16:20.21 And the rain came down, the floods came and the wind blew 00:16:20.21\00:16:22.54 and beat on that house and it fell and great was the fall." 00:16:22.54\00:16:26.85 - That's the part they like because when we got to that, 00:16:26.85\00:16:29.38 and the house on the sand went splat 00:16:29.38\00:16:32.22 and they all got to clap and go splat. 00:16:32.22\00:16:34.19 - You look at these mighty cliffs and you think about, 00:16:36.09\00:16:38.36 throughout the Bible, Jesus is compared to the rock, 00:16:38.36\00:16:41.23 the rock of my salvation. (gentle acoustic music) 00:16:41.23\00:16:46.30 In Jewish literature and Jewish history, 00:16:47.44\00:16:48.84 when they were building Solomon's temple, there's the 00:16:48.84\00:16:51.24 story that they didn't do anything at the building site. 00:16:51.24\00:16:54.98 In other words, no implements were used. 00:16:54.98\00:16:57.45 You heard no sound of chiseling. 00:16:57.45\00:16:59.08 You heard no sound of Emory or anything. 00:16:59.08\00:17:01.92 So, they did it far away at the quarry. 00:17:01.92\00:17:03.99 But some of these rocks were so massive, 00:17:03.99\00:17:06.65 five, 10, 15, 20, 30 tons, maybe more. 00:17:06.65\00:17:10.03 They'd bring them in and they fit exactly in the place. 00:17:10.03\00:17:13.93 They showed up with this one rock 00:17:13.93\00:17:15.76 and there was no place for it 00:17:15.76\00:17:17.80 and they couldn't figure it out. 00:17:17.80\00:17:18.77 Why did they send this rock? 00:17:18.77\00:17:20.30 - Couldn't figure out where it fit. 00:17:20.30\00:17:21.50 - Didn't fit, didn't fit anywhere. 00:17:21.50\00:17:23.67 So, the builder said, "Lets settle it over there." 00:17:23.67\00:17:25.71 Basically at the rubbish pile. 00:17:25.71\00:17:27.38 They go on for years and they're getting toward the end 00:17:28.68\00:17:30.81 and they need the chief cornerstone. 00:17:30.81\00:17:32.98 The stone that virtually holds up everything. 00:17:32.98\00:17:35.95 And they're looking and they're looking. 00:17:37.09\00:17:38.35 Well, they don't have anything that's strong enough. 00:17:38.35\00:17:40.32 The quarry said, "We don't have any rock 00:17:40.32\00:17:41.79 that's strong enough." (gentle acoustic music) 00:17:41.79\00:17:44.09 And as they're wandering around, they look. 00:17:44.09\00:17:45.93 And there's that stone they put out there years ago. 00:17:45.93\00:17:49.06 It's in full sun, it's in full shade, 00:17:49.06\00:17:51.10 it's in winter, it's in summer, spring and fall. 00:17:51.10\00:17:53.60 There's not a crack. There's not a blemish on it. 00:17:53.60\00:17:56.40 They say, "Well, let's just see." 00:17:56.40\00:17:58.17 They bring it over and it fit perfectly. 00:17:58.17\00:18:01.28 Jesus Christ is that chief cornerstone. 00:18:01.28\00:18:03.95 And that's what he wants to be in our lives, 00:18:05.01\00:18:06.92 the chief cornerstone. (gentle acoustic music) 00:18:06.92\00:18:08.65 - That can take anything and support us. 00:18:08.65\00:18:11.29 - That's right. That's right. 00:18:11.29\00:18:12.59 And I hope somehow today, Janice, we can convey to people 00:18:12.59\00:18:17.66 that the Christian walk is a journey, 00:18:18.79\00:18:20.66 it isn't just a one off. I'm sure in your journey, 00:18:22.00\00:18:25.93 yours hasn't been just one time thing. 00:18:25.93\00:18:29.04 - Oh, I wish I could say it's been a steady upward, but no. 00:18:29.04\00:18:32.94 Every now and then, I fall off the path and have to- 00:18:32.94\00:18:37.11 - Well, what happened? - I turned back to God 00:18:37.11\00:18:40.05 and asked for help getting back up on the path. 00:18:40.05\00:18:42.35 - Get back on the path, keep climbing, right? 00:18:42.35\00:18:44.85 Because our journey is keep going up and up and up. 00:18:44.85\00:18:48.32 God's calling us to the heavenly kingdom, right? 00:18:48.32\00:18:50.79 What John says, "In my Father's house are many mansions. 00:18:52.23\00:18:55.66 If it were not so, I would have told you 00:18:55.66\00:18:57.53 but I go to prepare a place for you. 00:18:57.53\00:18:59.60 And if I go and prepare a place for you, 00:18:59.60\00:19:01.50 I will come again and receive you to myself 00:19:01.50\00:19:04.27 and where I am, there you may be also." Phenomenal problems. 00:19:04.27\00:19:09.18 And God just doesn't throw us out on our own and say, 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.78 "Okay, now get there." Does He? 00:19:11.78\00:19:13.45 - No, because we'd all be doomed. 00:19:14.52\00:19:16.15 I never could have made it. 00:19:17.79\00:19:19.09 I can barely get on a road trip by myself, 00:19:19.09\00:19:22.62 without a good map or a navigator. 00:19:24.59\00:19:27.60 - But here's the map, right? Here's the map. 00:19:27.60\00:19:29.76 Matter of fact, the first two chapters of Genesis, 00:19:29.76\00:19:32.80 tell us where we were and how we lost our state, 00:19:32.80\00:19:35.90 how we sold out to the devil. 00:19:35.90\00:19:37.94 The last two chapters, tell us where we're going to go. 00:19:37.94\00:19:40.54 That glorious, heavenly home 00:19:40.54\00:19:42.08 and Jesus comes to take us with him 00:19:42.08\00:19:44.01 and everything in between is the guidebook. 00:19:44.01\00:19:46.31 It's the climbing route, to get to where he wants us to be. 00:19:46.31\00:19:51.39 - Good point. - It's so exciting. 00:19:52.42\00:19:53.62 I continually, as I look at all this rock 00:19:54.72\00:19:56.93 and I keep thinking about is, 00:19:56.93\00:19:59.39 Jesus led the children of Israel in the wilderness. 00:19:59.39\00:20:02.40 At one point, they got to this (indistinct) 00:20:03.70\00:20:05.27 "Lord, there is no water. We need water." Lord tells Moses, 00:20:05.27\00:20:09.27 "Go to this particular place and speak to the rock." 00:20:09.27\00:20:12.91 A couple of million people may have took him to that rock. 00:20:15.01\00:20:17.11 He spoke to that rock and all of a sudden, 00:20:17.11\00:20:18.91 water gushes out of that rock. 00:20:18.91\00:20:21.02 What kinda water was that really? 00:20:21.88\00:20:23.65 - It's just such a wonderful metaphor. 00:20:24.75\00:20:26.65 I mean, I'm sure they were amazed when it happened 00:20:26.65\00:20:29.26 but you read that in the Bible and it's like, 00:20:29.26\00:20:33.19 when I need something, when I'm in trouble 00:20:33.19\00:20:35.86 and I'm not sure how to, who to turn to, 00:20:35.86\00:20:39.30 where to go now? I can speak to God 00:20:39.30\00:20:43.24 and everything I need just flows from him. 00:20:44.47\00:20:47.74 He's just happy to give it to us. 00:20:47.74\00:20:50.01 - Years and years and years later, 00:20:51.21\00:20:52.48 Jesus stood on the temple steps and said, 00:20:52.48\00:20:54.78 "If you're thirsty, come to me. I'll give you living water." 00:20:54.78\00:20:59.05 I mean, what a promise, living water. 00:21:00.32\00:21:02.32 Water to fill us, to change us, to reinvigorate us, 00:21:02.32\00:21:04.83 to just give us so much more than we have now. 00:21:04.83\00:21:08.60 - I can remember years ago, we won't say how many, 00:21:08.60\00:21:12.97 backpacking with Steve cause his family was big 00:21:12.97\00:21:16.10 into backpacking and if I wanted to be with Steve, 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.21 I was gonna go backpacking. 00:21:18.21\00:21:20.31 So, I can remember though we'd be on a hot trail. 00:21:20.31\00:21:23.55 You can hardly wait to get to the end 00:21:23.55\00:21:25.35 or to come to a river or a stream. 00:21:25.35\00:21:28.08 And water has never tasted so good 00:21:28.08\00:21:30.89 as when you've been on a trail all day. 00:21:30.89\00:21:33.89 And all of a sudden you feel like, 00:21:33.89\00:21:36.02 "Oh, I can live now. I've got energy now." 00:21:36.02\00:21:39.23 It's like, "I have been trudging along, 00:21:39.23\00:21:41.76 barely speaking and now all of a sudden, 00:21:41.76\00:21:44.07 I'm back to being myself. 00:21:44.07\00:21:45.70 And I think of the woman at the well, 00:21:45.70\00:21:47.17 when He gave her living water, 00:21:47.17\00:21:49.17 she wasn't the same anymore. - No, never was. 00:21:49.17\00:21:51.21 - And the people in her town could tell, 00:21:51.21\00:21:52.94 which is why they listened to her 00:21:52.94\00:21:54.74 and came to see where that water came from. 00:21:54.74\00:21:57.21 - Yeah. Jesus is the living water. It's amazing. 00:21:57.21\00:22:01.88 I think about, one more story then, 00:22:01.88\00:22:03.69 I wanna show you some of this and apply it. 00:22:03.69\00:22:05.82 But Moses went up the mountain to meet with God. 00:22:05.82\00:22:10.89 God had called him up there to meet with him in person. 00:22:12.29\00:22:14.20 And as they're talking, Moses said, 00:22:14.20\00:22:15.83 "Please, God show me your face." 00:22:15.83\00:22:18.07 "Moses, I can't show you my face 00:22:18.07\00:22:19.73 because it's just so brilliant. It's so perfect. 00:22:19.73\00:22:22.60 Yeah. It'll just fry you because you still have sin in there 00:22:22.60\00:22:26.61 in your life and my glory and your sin can't combine. 00:22:26.61\00:22:30.15 But tell you what, I'll put you in this cleft 00:22:30.15\00:22:32.58 of the mighty rock. As I walk by, 00:22:32.58\00:22:34.85 I'll cover you with my hand. And as I pass by, 00:22:34.85\00:22:38.02 I'll pull my hand away and you can see my back side." 00:22:38.02\00:22:41.19 And I think about that in having God places in the rock, 00:22:41.19\00:22:44.46 the rock Jesus Christ. - Because that was safe. 00:22:44.46\00:22:48.00 - That was safe. It is safe today. 00:22:48.00\00:22:50.83 Why would anybody choose all the other stuff? 00:22:50.83\00:22:53.44 When God has a perfect place for us to hide us in Him. 00:22:53.44\00:22:57.37 - Reminds me, completely different metaphor. 00:22:58.54\00:23:01.71 But when Christ was looking over at Jerusalem and he said, 00:23:01.71\00:23:06.68 "If you would, he would just protect us." 00:23:06.68\00:23:09.42 And there's no reason not to be there. 00:23:10.45\00:23:13.72 - Yeah, exactly. But maybe I've got a pile of stuff. 00:23:13.72\00:23:17.23 Actually, I like to kinda carry it over there a little bit, 00:23:17.23\00:23:19.86 get to the rock and then kinda show you some of this 00:23:19.86\00:23:22.30 and give you an idea what it's like 00:23:22.30\00:23:24.30 and how the metaphor is really applied 00:23:24.30\00:23:26.33 to that Christian journey in climbing. 00:23:26.33\00:23:28.47 - Give me an idea of what crazy people do 00:23:29.60\00:23:31.11 in their spare time? - Yeah, exactly. 00:23:31.11\00:23:33.21 - [Announcer] Introducing Talking Donkey International. 00:23:35.54\00:23:38.11 God once used a donkey to spread his word 00:23:38.11\00:23:41.15 but he'd rather use all of us. 00:23:41.15\00:23:43.22 It's time to prepare quality programming created 00:23:44.49\00:23:47.16 to attract and reach viewers of the world, 00:23:47.16\00:23:49.52 not just those of our denomination. 00:23:49.52\00:23:51.93 Together, we can carry the final advent message 00:23:51.93\00:23:54.83 to the individuals of planet earth 00:23:54.83\00:23:57.20 and hasten the return of our Lord. 00:23:57.20\00:23:59.60 Please pray for and support the successful mission 00:23:59.60\00:24:02.50 of Talking Donkey International. 00:24:02.50\00:24:04.64 (gentle acoustic music) 00:24:05.91\00:24:09.31 - Hey, one of the biggest things I wanna tell you is 00:24:13.21\00:24:14.55 about the rope. I really like in rope is the prayer line 00:24:14.55\00:24:18.45 to God. Rope is the safety line. 00:24:18.45\00:24:20.66 I mean, you've gotta have that prayer 00:24:20.66\00:24:22.66 that everything hooked up to God 00:24:22.66\00:24:24.03 or you don't have a shot at it. 00:24:24.03\00:24:26.33 This is called a rack and rack holds all your protection. 00:24:26.33\00:24:30.43 All the different pieces that you can lock 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.20 into the rock, all the promises of God. 00:24:32.20\00:24:34.64 The more promises you store 00:24:34.64\00:24:35.90 in your heart and carry with you, 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.67 there's more places you can set protections. 00:24:37.67\00:24:39.81 - Except I couldn't climb anything, 00:24:39.81\00:24:41.54 carrying something like that. 00:24:41.54\00:24:42.64 - But I mean, we don't have a lot of time here. 00:24:42.64\00:24:44.68 So, I just wanna kinda show you how it works a little bit 00:24:44.68\00:24:47.22 and then keep me in your prayers. Climbing! 00:24:47.22\00:24:51.19 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:24:51.19\00:24:55.42 Now Janice, here's a good place to set a little protection. 00:25:05.50\00:25:08.14 - Oh, good cause you were already scaring me. 00:25:08.14\00:25:10.61 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:25:10.61\00:25:14.31 - Right there. 00:25:14.31\00:25:15.18 Now at this point, Janice, if I fall, 00:25:29.16\00:25:31.36 I'll fall down to that point, 00:25:31.36\00:25:33.33 but by God's grace I won't hit the bottom all the way 00:25:33.33\00:25:35.33 and that's kind of the way it is with a Christian life. 00:25:35.33\00:25:37.90 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:25:37.90\00:25:42.14 - If you fall, I'm the one who's gonna have to go 00:25:44.04\00:25:46.04 to the hospital because I'll have a heart attack. 00:25:46.04\00:25:48.14 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:25:48.14\00:25:52.38 - Now there's somebody else previously, 00:26:04.49\00:26:07.10 one of the good Christian brothers, (indistinct) 00:26:07.10\00:26:09.80 and so I got a little extra protection. 00:26:09.80\00:26:12.03 Bottom line, in life, you can't give on this journey totally 00:26:12.03\00:26:16.04 on your own. You need friends and Christian mates. 00:26:16.04\00:26:19.64 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:26:22.08\00:26:26.31 (gentle acoustic music continues) 00:26:38.16\00:26:42.43 So Janice, I wish to have more time 00:27:10.33\00:27:11.86 to kinda really share all the different things 00:27:11.86\00:27:14.46 about rock climbing, about the Lord here. 00:27:14.46\00:27:17.23 Oh, thanks for bringing my Bible too, 00:27:18.23\00:27:20.70 because really I wanted to read another text here. 00:27:20.70\00:27:23.97 It's found in Psalms 18, verse 31. 00:27:25.11\00:27:27.58 "For who is God besides Jehovah? 00:27:27.58\00:27:30.05 Or who is a rock, except our God?" 00:27:30.05\00:27:32.55 - Jesus is our rock. - Absolutely. 00:27:33.75\00:27:36.85 - And we need to dig deep into him, 00:27:36.85\00:27:39.95 so that we've got that solid foundation. 00:27:39.95\00:27:42.66 He's our anchor. He's our protection, 00:27:42.66\00:27:44.93 just like you had upon there. 00:27:44.93\00:27:46.59 - Yeah. Just like earlier today, 00:27:46.59\00:27:48.80 when we're riding the horses, two different routes. 00:27:48.80\00:27:51.43 There's only two in this world. 00:27:51.43\00:27:53.17 We have to choose one and we both say, choose Jesus Christ. 00:27:53.17\00:27:56.74 (gentle music) 00:27:58.27\00:28:01.18 Hey, thanks for joining us for "Country Wisdom." 00:28:01.18\00:28:03.78 - See you next time. 00:28:03.78\00:28:05.11 (gentle music) 00:28:05.11\00:28:07.78
